("You can get an American to buy anything...")

Okay, so they're not very original in their sound, and the Teenagers may turn over the same tricks more than a few times, but there's no denying the appeal of their kitschy debut album. The lyrics are hilarious and biting ("Aspirin and alcohol are not enough to die, Nicole"), and the production - if somewhat repetitive - is tight; the songs hold together fairly well. This album reminds me very much of the Francois Ozon film "Criminal Lovers" - trashy, stylish and sexy. Delicious.

Key tracks: "Homecoming," "F*** Nicole," "French Kiss"
Or at least that seems to be the theory this French band is pushing with this album.

Bland beats and lyrics fittingly filled with all the profanity and none of the subtlety or insight of a true teenager.

Their stupid, sneering anti-Americanism shows that these cultured continentals have spent too much time sitting in front of the tube watching American re-runs and thinking that "The OC" portrays American teens as they really are.

The most interesting thing about this album is it's unintentionally ironic title. They condescendingly proclaim their album to be a mirror for the American listener, when really what it does best is expose their own naievete. Not surprising though, since isn't most hate spurred by ignorance?

To buy and listen to this album is a true excercise in self-loathing for any American. These guys hate us with every fiber of their being. So if listening to how much you're despised set to overly repetitive beats and derivitive New Order guitar sounds like a good time to you, then go for it.

This French trio's sound is built around a backbone of golden pop melodies, enveloped in a sardonic wit and lingering Sofia Coppola soft focus. Although all the members are 20-somethings, adolescence is a concept that cuts to the group's core. They're in love with the idea of the dreamy teen, inspired by sunset walks through the park, clogging up shopping malls for no good reason, holding hands, and stolen kisses in the cinema. Similar to most filthy mouthed teens, "Reality Check" is full of foul innuendos and lyrics that would make Serge Gainsbourg blush. With its nonchalant and biting humor, this record is a 21st Century lo-fi French pop backdrop, awash in guitar hooks and soaring electro synth riffs.
Consisting of three lovely French 20-somethings, lead singer Quentin Delafon, guitarist / synth man Dorian Dumont and bassist Michael Szpiner, The Teenagers are a band that could have only come from Paris. Their sound is built around a backbone of golden pop melodies, with a penchant for leftfield visioning - all enveloped in a sardonic wit and lingering Sofia Coppola soft focus. They are easily one of the most intriguing and unique musical properties to tease us in 2007. While the trio left their teenage years a few years ago, adolescence is a concept that cuts to the core of the group. They're in love with the idea of the dreamy teen, inspired by sunset walks through the park, clogging up shopping malls for no good reason, holding hands, and stolen kisses in the cinema.

Instead of aSopranos-style album loaded with evocative songs, this HBO-movie soundtrack offers Dave Grusin's workmanlike score. What might be appropriate in the context of Norman Jewison's domestic drama is a listening experience with limited appeal. That is, fans of Grusin's work as a smooth-jazzer will probably enjoy--or at least find unobtrusive--the likes of "I Did an Experiment" and the guitar-and-vibes-heavy "I'm Happy for You." Not that the composer has no flair for reflecting the drama of a moment; "Tom Goes to the Den" is a masterful limning of that early turning point. Other snippets, including the title track, could fit into any tasteful suburban-based film. As for the disc's two vocal tracks, star Dennis Quaid's "I'm in the Mood for Love" is the musical equivalent of an actor's wandering accent, while Crowded House's 1986 "Don't Dream It's Over" brings the truest emotion to be found here.--Rickey Wright

Very entertaining Amos&Andy feature. The print from Miracle Pictures is quite good for a low-budget DVD. No splices or other problems and it appears to be complete.
enjoyed watching it . I remember watching the old t.v. series at an early age and after watching this movie all the characters were brought back to me and refreshed my childhood memories.It can be recommened for all ages of anyone who appreciates good clean humor and fun.

Amos and Andy - The boys attempt to make a go of their "open air taxi" business. While they get caught up in a society hassel, involving the driving of musicians to a fancy party. All the regular characters are here, including the famous mystic knights of the sea members.

Since when do they put out DVD's for teams who only make the playoffs? I'm a little confused, because the way I remember it, this Mets team won jack squat. Mets suck!

I have high blood pressure and I need to monitor it daily. With all the mixed reviews it was tough to decide on which one to buy. The LifeSource UB-512 was recommended by a friend who has one. It seemed to be as accurate as my doctor's, but after a few days with it. I noticed the readings were too inconsistent from reading to reading all within a minute of each other. I returned it to my friend and purchased the number one recommended unit out there, The Omron HEM-650, I give it 5 stars for accuracy and the Advanced Positioning System it uses. I get consistent readings each time.
Very Good for the $$. Easy to use. Can take it anywhear you need to. Very happey with it.
I am very happy with the quality of this blood pressure monitor. I was looking for something basic, dependable and quick. This monitor certainly is all of that. One nice feature is that it will store readings for both am and pm. If you are looking for lots of "bells and whistles", this is not the one for you. But it has everything I needed in a BP monitor.
I recently purchased this Lifesource BP monitor and had to return it immediately because the readings were erratic and the product isn't reliable at all. I tried it on my wife and myself and the device wouldn't give reasonable readings. We followed all the instructions as per the manual and also tried fitting the monitor in different places on the wrist, it still couldn't give accurate readings.
I wouldn't recommend buying this product unless you have tried it before making the purchase and compared the readings with the readings at your doctor's office.
I have for some time been using an Omron HEM-704C at home to track my blood pressure, but purchased the UB-512 so I'd have something more mobile. I subsequently have been appalled by the contrasting disparity in the readings of these two devices, with the HEM-704C giving readings such as 110/60 while the UB-512 virtually simultaneous readings vary from 152/66 to 220/75. It is well understood that blood pressure readings can vary, but when it is to this degree then the readings must be considered suspect.

I tend to regard the Omron as more accurate since its readings in past have not been that different from readings I've gotten when I'm at the doctor's office, and because its separate readings vary so much less than those of the LifeSource monitor. Nevertheless, as indicated above this is a qualified initial assessment as I can no longer be positive what my pressure is (unless I'm in a doctor's office).

The UB-512 appears to function well mechanically, but if you purchase this item you might want to verify its accuracy by comparing it with another instrument you know to be accurate.

This meter is a vehicle to sell test strips (like cheap printers are a vehicle to sell ink), so it's no big surprise that you can get it for virtually nothing. In fact it was on sale recently at Walgreens for $9.99 with a coupon inside for a full refund of what you spent for up to about $40-$50, so you can get the meter for salestax and 1 oz postage. The strips on the other hand cost $0.50 - $1+ each...

Now, my drug plan pays 100% for strips, but when I got out of the hospital after surviving the results of undiagnosed untreated runaway diabetes (hyperosmolar coma and kidney failure) practically the only thing I had to pay for myself was the diabetes education program. Perhaps that's why they threw in the meter, the infrared cable and more than enough strips to cover what they billed me, if only I had had to pay for strips.

As a result I found out some nasty things about this meter. Each box of strips comes with a dongle that you must plug into the meter, supposedly to program the meter to match changes in the strip but actually to force you to buy the next box whether you need to or not. If it is on or past the date on the dongle the meter will not only refuse to work with any strips you have remaining, it will refuse to give you access to any prior results you have stored in the meter. And, no, changing the nominal date will not fool the meter.

The lancet "pen" in the kit is also designed to sell you supplies, in this case the lancet cartridges. It is all too easy to click past an unused lancet, and then you have to throw it away unused, because there is no way to go back -- the pen destroys the cartridge by use, click-by or removal.

All those "Err" messages that the other reviewer got for insufficient blood also resulted in thrown-away strips. It happens not only if you don't draw enough blood, but also if you jump the gun and feed the meter the blood while it's still showing the dongle's version number. Now, maybe this was unavoidable. But given the other behavior of the meter and lancet pen that refuses to respect the patient's judgement in their eagerness to obsolete supplies, I'm deeply suspicious.

I'm not sure about the accuracy of this meter, also. Since I'm not paying I haven't hesitated to try two or three strips in a row when I got an anomalous, or more honestly, a disappointing, result, and 60-point swings in the result (American style; Canadians and Euros have a different scale hardwired in -- and you can't switch: I happened to pick up a Canadian meter and Roche helpfully instructed that I should throw it away and buy another).

And what can I say about holding your past results hostage to buying a new dongle?

Well, I say don't buy this meter. No need to encourage Med supply companies to disrespect us.

Errata -- I've discovered you can get access to past results by turning on the meter with no dongle (a/k/a coding chip) installed. I didn't see that documented anywhere, but I did discover it...
I recently purchased this device after reviewing various reviews of blood glucose meters available on the market. I purchased the Accu-Chek Aviva due to it's reasonable cost, recent make, small size, efficiency of use, ability to take blood from places other than the finger, and requirement for only a very small blood sample.

Overall, I am impressed with the device except one important thing. Despite numerous tries I could not draw enough blood from locations on my arm and leg that would meet the unit's minimum blood sample size requirement. I used the longest lancet setting and tried several times but received error messages on all tries with a code that tells you that you haven't used enough blood. This could very well be a problem for many meters but since this is my first, I find this fustrating that I have to go back to the standard finger prick method.
I have been using this meter for about 4 months (I got the entire Accu-Chek Aviva testing kit). The case is nice. It's very well made and large enough to carry everything you need for daily testing and still small enough to fit into an average size purse. It has wide, elastic bands that hold the meter, the lancet device and a bottle of test strips. It also has a little mesh zipper pouch for little items like your control solution, extra lancet drums, the "alternate testing" site adaptor for your lancet device and some alcohol pads. The actual meter itself has a terrific rubberized grip on the sides that makes it easier to handle and less likely to be dropped, but also makes it a little more difficult to slip it out of its elastic holder without having to excessively stretch the elastic band (and it's a little big for the band), as a result, my band is getting a little tired looking (but still holds the meter just fine).

Also, with my Accu-Chek Aviva kit, I got their fabulous Accu-Chek Multiclix Lancet Device. Granted, I don't like pricking my finger at all anyway (who does?), but the Accu-Chek Multiclix Lancet Device is a little pen-shaped device that you load with a drum of lancets and then you just push down on the end like a pen and it loads a fresh lancet, then you click on the little button on the side and it pricks your finger. The next time you use it, you just click to load, click to prick. I love it, and it truly made it almost painless! Seriously!

I've been looking at other meters and it would seem that one of the big selling points on other meters is that the strips don't require "coding". Whooptidoo. They make it sound like "coding" is this awful, laborious chore. It's not. The only difference I see is that if you use coded strips, which this meter does, your bottle of test strips has a number on the side of the bottle and comes with a little microchip insert that you put in your meter when you start a new bottle of test strips. When you load a test strip into the meter, it displays the code that should match the number on the bottle you took the test strip out of. It's a control factor. I suppose the nice thing about uncoded test strips is that you can have partially used bottles of test strips laying around the house, or in your car, or in your desk or at your aunt's house that you can just use any old time without your meter tripping out about it. In my opinion, this could lead to using test strips that are out of date, have been exposed to excessive heat, cold, moisture etc. and can lead to inaccurate test results. This could be a problem if you're counting on accurate results before injecting insulin. To me, that's NOT a "feature".

The only drawback I can see to having coded strips is if you lose the chip (which would be difficult to do, but could happen) you would not be able to use the rest of the strips out of the corresponding bottle. The chip for my Aviva is very secure and I can't imagine it falling out during normal use, but I suppose it could be removed by a small child or a dog chewing on the meter might dislodge it, if I were stupid enough to leave it lying around where a small child or dog could get it. At that point, I'd be more worried about the choking hazard (the chip is about the size of a nickel) and wondering what kind of parent would leave their meter just laying around, but seriously, coded or not, don't let that be a selling point because in my opinion, it's irrelevant.

This product is exactly what I wanted: a stylish travel case for my Kindle2 with an outside pocket to carry the charger (or other small items). I also like that you can open the case flat like a book if you want to keep the Kindle in it while reading, and the case has 4 corner pocket straps to hold the Kindle in place without interfering with operation of the Kindle buttons. The two bottom straps in this case are elastic, so insertion and removal of the Kindle is easy. The zippers were a bit stiff at first, but operate easily after just a few uses.

The new check valve is targeted to solve the limitations of other check valves when used in high volume smoke systems. It also works great to eliminate those end plugs in the fill line used in "three line" tank applications. Using a Flourosilicon diaphragm and a Type 66 H.S. Nylon housing the check valve is lightweight and compatible with smoke oils, petroleum products and methanol and nitromethane. The new check valve is made with an oversized diaphragm to supply in excess of 16+ oz. per minute without choking. More than enough to keep up with electric fuel pumps.

No more lost fill plugs:

The high volume capacity and low forward resistance make this check valve perfect for replacing fuel tank plugs in filler applications. (Great for smoke tank applications) No more lost or fallen fill plugs when you simply fill your tank through the check valve. When you remove your supply hose the fill line automatically shuts off. While any check valve will do this, ball style check valves tend to leak. Other diaphragm check valves will restrict and slow the fill process down.

A solution for smoke systems:

Many GIANT SCALE modelers have discovered that when supplying the high volume of oil necessary for awesome smoke, some check valves choke up under the high pressure. The check valve actually starts to restrict the oil as you attempt to increase the flow. The solution has been to use two check valves side by side in order to share the load. This requires an extra "T" fitting in some cases. The new TME check valve can handle gallons per minute so you can simply use one check valve for even the largest smoke systems.

The TME check valve can operate between -20 degrees to 210 degrees Fahrenheit. It features sonic welding making it nearly impossible to come apart under normal conditions. It is sensitive to pressure differentials as low as 1/2 pound per square inch and is ideal for systems wo

I read this book this summer to help with developing comprehension strategies with all my readers. Tony's book is an easy read and he is a skilled writer. I learned a ton and can't wait to try some of his ideas next school year.

Still loved this book! Ty makes a great hero, and Janna a wonderful match for him. The story is interesting with plenty of twists and turns... and while it centers around pro hockey it was totally enjoyable for me.

Why 4 vs 5 stars? I didn't feel enough sizzle/heat/conflict between these two in the early chapters. I wish more had been done with that- more confrontation and battles. That said, I still loved the book and I'll be checking out more of Deidre Martin's work ASAP!
i loved how this book wasn't all about sex. however, it did have its tasteful scenes. this is the first book that ever actually made me cry as well. the characters were truly hilarious. (Lou, for example). The character development was done very well too. i loved Martin's use of words to describe many of her characters. this definitely is a book that keeps you hooked.
This was my first book by the author and I wasn't disappointed. I loved Ty and Janna and their very cute love story, and, the best part is that you don't need to know about hockey to like this book. My only complaint would be that I wished their love story had a little more depth to it with more interaction between the main characters. Lot of people have compared this book to Rachel Gibson's See Jane Score and for me, personally, that book was a little more realistic and heartwarming. To end on a positive note, this is an entertaining book and I will certainly be reading more from this author in the future!
A lot of people have been comparing this book to Rachel Gibson's "See Jane Score" and "Simply Irresistible." I found "Body Check" to be much better than those two. Even though this book has less in the graphic sex department (which I enjoy as much as the next girl), the character development is much better than Rachel Gibson's books. Janna comes of as neurotic, but still clever. She's smart because we can see she is, not because the author tells us so. Rachel Gibson's heroines tend to do and say stupid things and never realize that they are doing themselves a disservice. Janna makes mistakes, but is smart enough to realize that she's done so. The same goes for the male characters. Even with Ty's rather sudden change of heart at the end, Ty as a man seems pretty grounded in reality for a romance novel hero - especially when he doesn't know how to handle his girlfriend's problems.

This book is also well written, not just in the characters' grammar, but in the hockey as well. The little brother, Wills, is written very believably (again unlike Rachel Gibson's strangely written child characters).

Overall, a good piece of candy! I never wanted to slap either of the characters.
When persistent sports publicist Janna MacNeil butts heads with hockey team captain Ty Gallagher, they don't just crack the ice-they melt it.

I bought this book for my son at his request. He is 23 and he said this was a great book.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, for many different audiences. First, it is perhaps the best book I have read for people trying to understand the importance of following Christ in a secular world, especially those who have never read a "religious" book before.

This book is certainly helpful for men who are trying to understand the power and truth and complete relevance of God in their lives. While every young man preparing for college, attending college, or having recently graduated from college simply has to read this book, it is something that every man can relate to and learn from. I am 43 and it is already having a profound impact on my life.

And I think women will love it too, as this can help them understand the kind of man they want their future or current boyfriends and husbands to be. And so much of what the author addresses is relevant for anyone, man or woman, young or old.

Finally, I'll be having my sons read this book when they are older, as a preparation for manhood and understanding the dangers, subtle and not-so-subtle, in the world where we live.

One more thing - the book is an incredible read. You won't want to put it down, and you'll wish Saab wrote even more.

This book is outstanding. I have shared it with everyone I know and the universal sentiment is that the book is unique, profound, funny, and thought-provoking. There is a legitimate reason the book is so popular.

I never write reviews, and I am writing this for no other reason than to offset "Auntie's Boy" vindictive review. Talk about a shill campaign. It's the pot calling the kettle black. The new edition comes out, and immediately he posts the same useless tirade about a book he clearly hasn't read. And he talks about abusing the Amazon ratings system. I guess that is to be expected from a baby-killing Obama supporter. "Down with morally upstanding decent human beings! Long live moral degredation!"
My my my....the Disciples of Fundamentalist Fanatic Tarek Saab are at it again! If it were not bad enough that the first edition of this "book" had a review page where 95% of the "reviews" were by first-time reviewers who all without exception gave the book falling-all-over-themselves 5-star raves. So what happens? The second edition's ink is not even dry yet and the exact same people all rush here to post another "rave," the majority of which within one 24-hour period. Want the rundown? This is truly the best book I have read in a few years. I'm not going to do this book justice, but after reading it, I felt I really knew Tarek, and, more importantly, want to be a man like he is. He described the book in one of his interviews as a book about lukewarmness. He is totally honest, and a person can sense that in how he explains his problems and the parts of his life which were good, and the contradictions he had to work out. I totally agree with the 2nd edition subtitle change - this book is definitely NOT just for 20 year olds. I'm 47, and it is totally applicable to me.

I normally do not care for "celebrity" type conversion/reversion type stories, but this is very different. This book would be excellent for both men and women starting college. For a high school student I think the parents should read first.

Like I said, this review does not do the book justice. To me, this book is already a classic. (Oh, and I have bought books from Amazon for years and have never written a review until now.)

I tried this software and it is just what I was looking for! I have been trying different trial ones but found them either to much money or poor quality. This one works great, I can now send me emails with confidence! And it has Thesaurus and Dictionary to boot!
