From the title, one would think that this would be a documentary about the CosPlay phenomenon. Instead, it is primarily someone with a low-quality camera at a CosPlay convention asking girls (primarily - very few guys interviewed) very similar about their costumes and then ogling them with the camera.

Might be worth renting or borrowing from a friend, but definitely not anything worth keeping in a video/DVD collection.
What happens is this - a news channel takes their camera and asks cosplayers a series of questions, about cost, time it takes to make the outfit and age. Age??? Well, anyway, the camera angles are bad, either too close or the image is washed out because of the sunlight reflecting off the white or pink of the outfits. There are some sections that deal with material and what outfits are the most popular but as it deals with Japanese Cosplay the prices they mention and the store they visit don't really help if you live in the US.
Frankly, giving it 3 stars was a tad high, but I'm being nice.
A couple of prurient teenagers hang out at the entryway to a few cosplay conventions with a video camera and a canned list of questions that never varies. They hit on the"cutest"girls they can find (12-14 year olds...). That's it. Not at all an introduction to cosplay, no info on how to get involved, how it evolved in Japan or the U.S.. Skip this, it is awful.
It's not out yet but i saw a demo and trailer of it today in fact. It consites of japanese and american cosplayers and skits they preform. My first impression was basicallt extatic since there is only one cosplay tape in america and its subbed. but the whole thing was guys talking to young teen cosplayers in short skirts flirting. i think this one will have great potencial and especially popular with anime fans. I would definetally try it out. ....

Saki is gradually being pulled into the otaku world, whether she knows it or not. She's even beginning to find some of Genshiken's manga to be worth reading! But she can only take so much and so she orders a militaristic cleansing of all the junk in the club room. Of course, being otaku, none of the Genshiken want to get rid of ANYTHING! When she accidentally(?) starts a fire with a dropped cigarette, she gets the club banned from their meeting place. Their only hope to win back the good graces of the authorities it to show that Genshiken is an active and productive member of the school. So the group decides to enter a cosplaying contest that will be judged by their favorite anime staff. The snag in their plan is that Ohno, their resident cosplayer is sick, so that leaves Saki to dress up! And we know how far that will fly with her. This final volume also features a going to the beach episode which features a battle between Saki and Sasahara's sister for the attentions of Kohsaka. In the first episode Madarame finds himself alone with Saki, struggling to find points of conversation, and then noticing an extremely long nosehair projecting out of Saki's nose. What to do? What to do??

Don't expect any strong wrap-ups or conclusions in this final volume. If you want a continuation of the storyline I highly recommend picking up the manga version of Genshiken. The comedy in this show is dead-on, and Saki is a great foil for the club's obssessions, but in a nice twist she has begun to show a softer side, and also a loyalty she doesn't like to exhibit. It almost seems as if she has become the main character. At first it seemed as if it would belong to Sasahara, but the real revelation is Saki's evolution from otaku hater to someone that can at least respect and admire passions for anime and manga even if she can't share those passions. In a nice piece of meta-anime, an episode of Genshiken's favorite anime, Kujibiki Unbalance is included here. I wish that this show within a show would actually be expanded into an actual full blown series. The dvd also includes a long 30 minute interview with two of the Japanese voice actresses. Highly recommended.

You should also seek out the Comic Party anime.

The frog wallet I received doesn't look quite like the one in the picture above. The fabric is a more shocking green (try lime green instead of the nice earthy green displayed) and the eyes, which look as if they are the "googly eyes" is actually iron-on transfer material.

HOWEVER, it is still worth the purchase! This little guy is so adorable! While his wallet size isn't as big as the actual product, it's still very cute!

When you get this frog, there's no surprises. It's an awesome little frog with a mouth that opens, pretty much exactly what Naruto uses. I gave it to my buddy as a joke birthday gift; it was as hilarious as I thought it'd be, but it was also pretty legitimately cool. Obviously, it's not practical to use as a wallet at all, but if you have a decent (not too much) bit of change around the house that you need to store somewhere, this is probably the most awesome way I could imagine to store it.
I bought this for my mom since she's really into frogs, not because it's something I think she'll use in her purse but rather as something cute to sit at her desk. The one I received did not have the 'googly' eyes but felt eyes but it's still quite cute. There is a little tag on it's belly that says something in Japanese and there is a small Narato tag on it's rear end. It's a quality item for the price, and the metal clasp is sewn firmly to the frog mouth. Overall quite happy with it!

Not only is it from one of her favorite anime series but its a frog, and he favorite animal is a frog.

(BEWARE: DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF NECKLACE)

For those who are Naruto fans (pretty much anyone who is looking at this product, I'm sure), you will know that Tsunade's necklace has the two metal pieces with the much larger, turquoise, gem-like stone in the middle. The product that came in the mail was in official Naruto packaging, but the center "gem" was also a piece of metal.

Upon further inspection of the picture that displays this product, I realized that it shows it is metal, but the photographer cast a blue light on the metal of the center gem to make it appear gem-like, rather than metal. It seems to me to be dishonest, but I also can't complain because it did come in official packaging.

I'd assume purchasing the same necklace anywhere else would reap the same results, but I am a bit disappointed in the lack of craftsmanship and authenticity on the part of the company who made the necklace.
There are several different versions of the Naruto necklace being sold from various dealers. The one that arrived at my doorstep was NOT the one shown in the picture... the gem was actually a piece of metal (same color and metal as the balls). I would strongly suggest buying from another dealer to be sure you get the necklace featured in the picture.
It is a ripe off. If I were you, I won't buy it. The shipping and postage is 3X the value of the necklace which is unreasonable.

I'm a big fan of anime accessories, and this one is one of my favorites. Its a perfect rendition of Tsunade's infamous necklace, and is one of the few in my collection that could actually pass for a regular necklace. One of the side charms slipped out of place a little when I popped it out of its box, but it is held in place by the plasticy rope very well, and you don't notice. As I said, the rope is has sort of a plasticy gripping covering it, but it is actually a very high quality material. I definitely recommend this necklace!

You know the ones that are painted with blood. Any way a nice bracelet.
The Kyo Sohma cosplay bracelet is pretty good. You can wear it as a normal bracelet with its own style, but also be a fan of fruits basket while wearing it. If people notice it, they'll either see your individuality (those who don't read fruits basket) or see that your a big fan of Kyo Sohma and fruits basket! (those who do read)

It does tend to wear down a little over time, paint is starting to rub away on mine and some of the bands on the elastic underneath of split, but it seems to be easily repaireble with model paint and a new elastic if the whole thing does snap
Over all great for fans and individuals who like the bracelets look!

And the pin and Candy that came with it were a nice touch too!

Nice photography thanks to a professional photographer. As for the content itself... Ms. Kurotaki left me wondering exactly why I bothered buying this book. When the description said the book contained columns and photos I figured it would have a decent amount of information. I am a costume designer and enjoy checking out other people's work to expand horizons.

However, when the book arrived I was quite disappointed. Each costume has 2 short paragraphs of text with it. The first is information about the character and why she likes her/him. The second paragraph is about "making the costume" which contains vague phrases like, "This costume required a lot of fabric," (about her Chun Li costume).

Furthermore, some of the costumes failed to impress me. Some she made, some she bought, some she did not make at all (just modeled). Don't be expecting her to provide tips and tricks on how she made certain things or even what fabric she used.

Bottomline: If you're looking for a photobook of Jan Kurotaki in costumes, go for it. If you're looking for a helpful book for cosplay... pass this by.
Its not what I thought it would be, I figured it would have given me pointers on cosplay, but all it was; was a series of boring pictures. I was disapointed.
My daughter is a huge anime fan, sews many of her own costumes and really liked this book
The book cover says it all. Jan Kurotaki, cosplayer, Newtype USA columnist, manga author, video game designer, and fashion model, has been cosplaying for ten years. In this book is many of the photos and columns from Newstype USA. Each section has a few pages of photos of the same costume and two paragraphs, one explaining the costume and one explaining the characters. She gives tips of keeping down the costs, what material to use and how to wear the outfits. Note: Some outfits you don't want to move too fast in, you may flash somebody. Some of the outfits are cute, some are sexy, some she is even crossplaying - cosplaying as a male character. Some of the outfits she wears JUST for fun. A must for any manga, cosplay, anime library.

I saw this book at (Bookstore chain name) and after taking a reading of the book, I have to say, the author knows NOTHING about Japanese Anime or Cosplay.

For starters, the "ideas" contained in this book is about as cheesy and lazy as they come. No self-respecting newbie cosplayer should be privy to such horrors as how to make the "cat ears" that are in the book. I think your better off buying them from a shady dealer on eBay than attempt to use the "tutorial" enclosed in said book. Or the ways to "combine" street clothes to attempt LARP (Live-Action Role-Play). And what were they thinking with the "suggestions" part? A Panda Cowgirl? A "Demon" costume that is only a bathing suit? Oh-kay.

And the misses keep on coming folks!! The cover art doesn't really showcase the interior artwork. Heck, I would sue for misleading advertising if given the opportunity. Most of the drawings inside are drawn in a western style instead of anime style, and some are outright creepy. The girls are big, beefy, and extremely masculine looking. Not the kawaii-DESU look you'd find elsewhere.

And to add a final insult to injury, there's also a section called "Popular Catgirls in Anime," and some of the characters listed are mislabeled and just thrown in haphazardly. Apparently the author or editors of the book can't tell the difference between a rabbit (Misha from Pita Ten), a robot (Ropponmatsu from Excel Saga), and a cat (Rabi en Rose from Di Gi Charat).

I strongly suggest you look elsewhere for your cosplaying needs. There are tons of free cosplay advice on the net, from [...] section is much more better than this book, and they have a very slanted view of cosplay, but at least their brutally honest about it and are upfront about it.

Only buy the book if your willing to milk out enough of a laugh worth the price of the book.
I originally purchased this book as a reference for a speech I had to give in a college course concerning Japanese animation (anime) conventions.

This publication is good because it easily makes anime conventions and cosplay accessable for people who don't necessarily know what any of these things are.

The cosplay creation instructions are simple and easy to follow. Even when the author gets more in depth with the catgirl ear creation instructions it is very easy to read and stay on track.

What I appreciate is that the author chose to describe what sort of role a cosplayer plays at an anime convention. You are told what sort of competitions are usually made available to you as a cosplayer, as well as what cosplay judges will be looking for and how to give photographers a great photograph.

As far as the author's credibility is concerned (as a previous reviewer mentioned), it's true that the author is described more as a photographer than a costume creator. However, the costuming steps are pretty much foolproof, making the credibility not a huge concern in this publication. There are a few pages at the end of the book giving resources and general information, but these don't actually appear to be references that the author himself used. Or if he did, it isn't very plainly mentioned. It seems that the references are more for the needs of the cosplayer. There are artistic resources given, cosplay sites and forums, convention sites and forums, and general catgirl studies references and links. These are placed in the book for the reader to find the things they need quickly and easily.

Again, I am not sure precisely how the author earned the knowledge of costuming, but the book itself is very well made, and lt is a good piee of reference material. I would definately recommend this book for anyone who wants to have a handy cosplaying book at their disposal.
I own this book and I have read it. It is a well-written, well thought out book about cosplaying as a cat girl. It goes through how to make the perfect catgirl costume in great detail. I would recommend this book to beginner cosplayers because the steps are simple and clear. Nearly every page is illustrated. The photos of actual cosplayers are also great. :) Nyan!
Still waiting for this book to be published. I own other books released by this publisher, so I'm fairly confident it will someday happen. They'd better get the lead out or "the cosplay craze that's sweeping the anime con scene" will pass them by. They're already a decade behind the trend.

As for the book itself, I'm curious about the author's credentials as a costumer designer, since he's described as anything but. Does he do more than take photos of costumes and talk to cosplayers? Has he won contests at the upper level, such as Anime Expo, WorldCon, or CostumeCon? If he doesn't actually make costumes, where is his information coming from?

I really like these shoes, I've only worn them once so far, but they look a lot better with long pants and jeans than with a skirt or dress. My friends say they make me look like a female Elvis, but I was inspired by Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman =P
Your Granny never wore boots like these but if she did, the 1900's might have been a little wilder! They work great for costuming in Steampunk-style and any outfit that requires a neo-Victorian look. Comfortable for walking short distances and standing for a couple of hours. Not the most well-made of boots but certainly able to hold up for a while. I wear a size 9 1/2 but ordered the 10 and was glad I did so. Pair the boots with a bright colored pair of tights so the lace on the side of the boot stands out.

These boots looked really nice in the pictures but that is where the "romance " ends.They me be the correct length for my foot size but they are far to narrow.unless you have a very narrow foot I would advise you to stay clear of these boots.If you like the style try them in leather if you can find them that way.Leather is more forgiving and gives a little.The style does look quite sexy under a black or jean ankle skirt.

I am a true 14 and when I ordered this item,there is no way this was going to fit and yes I ordered the right size, so I returned the item. When I received the item it stated on my rec't NO RETURNS however, I did return it, explaining that this is not true to size, I couldn't wear it... and never heard back. SO, BE AWARE order larger than you really want...
I was surprised how well it fit considering most things I buy before I try on are a disaster! Hence I found their sizing chart I found to be accurate! It was really comfy to dance the night away in and barely took any prep work --do the hair and makeup how you like and go! Loved it!

This was used for my 4 yr old son as his Halloween costume- my wife sewed together a sonic bodysuit to go with it. Together it made a great costume and everyone commented on it when we were trick or treating. I think it was also a lot more comfortable for him than a mask would have been, but honestly this is like the only sonic costume piece I could find. He's my son's favorite character now but it's so hard finding any Sonic merchandise- online is really the only place you'll find it.
Very difficult to find any Sonic clothes for toddlers. Our son has been running around like crazy since he received 1 month ago. Well made.
