『I got the Hoover S2220 to clean my kitchen floor and bathrooms. None are carpeted and this vacuum does the job. I did not purchase the vacuum for carpeting just for bare floors. It works great and I can't believe how much dirt is in the filter system after doing the floors.
It would be PERFECT except for the short cord. That is why it got a 4 star rating by me.
I would buy it again because it does a fantastic job.』

『I was thrilled beyond get-out when I got my first Flair. It IS a good vacuum for bare floors of any kind and at first, it works even on small area&throw rugs. I dont mind cleaning out the cup and hubby blows out the filter with the air compressor hose in the garage. It DOES fall over easily and the cord isnt long.

However, on each of my Flairs, although I have only used it for area rugs (I have a regular vacuum for the few carpeted rooms I have) the belts blow out for the "carpet" setting (beater bar moving setting). The belts were difficult to find and it took FOREVER for them to arrive. Hubby was able to easily replace them but they sure don't last. The bar gets clogged easily with long hairs (my daughter&I both have long hair) and I would often need to cut it out with scissors. I love how it goes quite a ways under cabinets, bookcases, and even my couch!

However, it has fallen over so many times that the little latch to hold the cup in the vacuum has snapped off&I now have to use packing tape to keep it in. Its time to move on to something with newer technology!』

『This stick vac had many positive reviews, but it hasn't been great for me. It's fine for hardwood, but it does very poorly on my rugs. Even after going over certain areas repeatedly, there are many things it never picks up. I also have to regularly turn it upside down and pull out clumps of dust, fibers, etc. that clog that "mouth" of the vacuum. And when I flip the switch from "bare floors" to "carpet," it spits out clumps of dust, hair, etc. onto the rugs that I have to pick up by hand. I realize stick vacuums aren't for heavy-duty cleaning, and this is the only one I've owned, so perhaps this is on par with your typical stick vacuum. And maybe the types of rugs I have just aren't a good fit for this vacuum, but I wouldn't purchase it again or recommend it to anyone else. I'm looking to replace it with something that can do floors and rugs equally well.』

『So far so good! I've used it a few times and have only had two disasters - both of which were probably my fault! I am a bit concerned that after only the first use, the coating already started to chip off the inside of the pan, but it doesn't seem to be getting any worse, so we'll see how it goes. It's a little loud and bounces around a bit, but I understand this is common with breadmakers, and isn't a problem for us. Also, there seems to be some slight burning or scorching to the inside of the unit and I hope this doesn't become any worse. Otherwise I'm very pleased with the results. The bread is yummy and I'm pleased that I can select the size. I made croissants the other day and would warn that they take time and work! The results are well worth it however. All in all, I'd recommend it - bearing in mind that this is my first breadmaker and have nothing to compare it to.』

『The Panasonic SD-YD250 was purchased on September 22, 2009 and "broken" by November 5, 2009 after only 9 loaves. The first 9 were wonderful and worked just as advertised. After that, however, the automatic yeast dispenser just stopped working on all settings. So much for convenience...It doesn't matter much how well it functions if it only works for 9 loaves. I'll have to send it off for who knows how long (at my expense) or drive to a service center 105 miles away (each way) two times to drop off and pick up. Very disappointed as this hassle is just not worth it.』

『I've never used a bread maker before and was really nervous about selecting the right one. This has been so easy to use and I've adapted all sorts of recipes. I would definately recommend it. I was disapointed that all the recipes that came with the machine call for powdered milk and most call for butter and I don't use dairy products. The reason I wanted to make my own bread was to avoid certain ingredients. But is hasn't been a problem. I use canola or olive oil instead of butter and have found lots of recipes on the web that work just fine. I've made at least 2 dozen loaves so far and haven't had a "flop."』

『It's still like yesterday to me; The Ed Sullivan Show, the news stories, the histerial and the fun of something so exciting. The music of that time was the earmark of a sociological era the likes of which have never been seen before or since.
That's why the remastering of the historic music is so important. I was so pleased to hear these recordings presented in a crisp, clean and vivid format. The importance of preserving these recordings cannot be understated. This is history. The Beatles represent the most profound influence on the culture of the second half of the 20th century.
The songs bring back the fun, happiness and innocence of the time and cannot help but bring a smile to your face. I have purchased most of these remastered issues and have yet to be disappointed. Percussion is crisper, guitar solos are bolder and the whole presentation is just more life-like.
If you were a child of the sixties, these are required listening. Take a time trip back to those times when the release of a new Beatle album was worthy of the 6 o'clock news and portable radios ruled.』

『If ever there was a person to earn the title of "5th Beatle"....it would surely have been George Martin and Brian Epstein....and NOT New York radio DJ, Murray the K.

Martins invaluable knowledge of musical theory and arrangement, as well as his vast overall familiarity with each of the instruments and vocalizing; plus his willingness to bet on a longshot and take risks.

It was Brian Epsteins original interest in the band that convinced them to change their appeance/image and got them in the doors at Parlophone in the first place.

When you listen back to 1962 to the Decca Tapes, the Tony Sheridan recordings and the Star Club in Hamburg,Germany.....It doesn't take a genius to figure out that NOBODY transcends from being a barely competent musician to the Beatle level in only 14 or 15 months. Also keep in mind that short of Paul McCartney, no one in the band had any formal musical training.

I believe this is where George Martin and Brian Epstein come into the picture....Their guidance and vision took a group of 4 very ambitious young men who were extremely talented; yet raw and and transformed them into the biggest band of the century. In very short order, they became better than any of their peers. The bands appearance took on a new look....as well as their sound..

In the studio....Martin undoubtedly helped them to polish their vocal and musical skills...showing them the tips and secrets only the pros were familiar with. It was Martin who helped them accelerate their prowess of the piano and organ...as well as giving them tips on how to accentuate their playing style on guitar, bass and drums..This is the job of a good producer....to get the most out of the performer and to capture it all on tape.

So.....If there ever was ANYBODY who deserved to be referred to as a "5th Beatle"....It would have to be George Martin and Brian Epstein. These 2 men were every much a Beatle as the 4 who you saw on all the records and cd's.

When I think back to all the hoopla that was associated with Beatlemania....I am really convinced that it wasn't all hype at all....These guys (with the help of Brian and George) really deserved all that attention and they truly were a phenomenon and destined to be the BAND OF THE CENTURY.

If you doubt me....just listen to the music.

I consider A Hard Days Night to be the pinnacle of The Beatles recorded success...every song a literal masterpiece...The stereo mix is true and not that hokey "left-music, right-vocals" B.S. that basically ruined the listenability of PLEASE PLEASE ME, WITH THE BEATLES and RUBBER SOUL.

One suggestion....when you listen to the CD...program your tracks to play YOU CANT DO THAT to follow CANT BUY ME LOVE (as it was the 8th song written and recorded for the movie). DVD owners will note that recent versions of the movie now have them performing YOU CANT DO THAT live in front of the studio audience..along with the other 7 songs.

My biggest criticism of the whole catalogue....They should have included BOTH stereo and mono versions of each album (as they did with the Capitol album box sets)....』

『I heard this CD reviewed on NPR and immediately fell in love with the singer's (Nellie McKay's) voice and musical style. The CD did not disappoint. The music is gorgeous and refreshing. I highly recommend it.』

(Straight into the Wastebasket!)
『My usual listening is to Classical. Some of it recorded decades ago. "Normal" has production values so low that the mass of delighted listeners must have been taught to expect a diet of garbage. Whatever the truth of its production may be, it sounds like each part was recorded separately and assembled by a compete amateur. Each sound source has it point-specific origin and neither blends with nor seems to belong with the other sounds. Ms McKay's much lauded voice, meanwhile, sounds on this album like she went to singing school and chose the voice she would pretend is her own from a menu. What a waste! I saved the plastic box. The only thing of value in my purchase.』

『I have spent some time with this album and now feel somewhat qualified to comment.

God this pains me, I am a 100% all-American male, so it's tough for me to use "foofie" little French terms, but the definition of "bijou" fits this record nicely: "a small, dainty, usually ornamental piece of delicate workmanship," or "something delicate, elegant, or highly prized."

Nellie brings us that eternal touch of delicacy, grace and elegance lost in most modern music, and especially - sadly - in modern takes on the classic jazz modes. She just "gets it."

Nellie's best by far is still "Get Away From Me" - a garrulous, madcap big-bang of long-brewed genius, in my opinion easily one of the very best records of the "00's". This would be her second best, in qualitative terms, to my mind and my taste.

It is rare for an artist to cover a song as good as or - even rarer - better than the original. For the "equals," "They Won't Go When I Go" by George Michael (covering Stevie Wonder), and for the "betters," "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor (making a silk purse out of Prince's plodding, lackluster original sow's-ear version) come to mind. Point is they breathed enough life into and wove enough of themselves throughout a given piece to hit or exceed the mark, which is super rare. Usually it's some starry eyed artist in love with a tune, feeling the reflexive need to spit it back out, when they don't realize their attraction and even obsession over it was due to it's already-there extreme high quality. And then they miss the mark. And I hate that.

This whole record is quite in that vein of improvement or high quality deviation from the original. This is an artist who can take the bones of material and weave her own beauty around them.

My exposure to standards is extensive; my exposure to Day is limited to like one record ("A Guy Is A Guy" being one stuck-in-my-head anti-highlight/minor guilty pleasure) and Pillow Talk. In other words, limited. But it's so cool to see a jazz geek getting geeked up about their niche fandom. Because I have one or two of those, too. Oh and Nellie is the hottest nerd alive. Mmmmm...hot nerds.

Finally, the feather-pillow beating in the liner notes regarding vegetarianism...it didn't work. ;) Sorry, the stuff is just too tasty.

『I'm an early fan of Nellie. Nothing like her energy and in-your-face assertiveness can come close to her. She is a brilliant instinctive songwriter and singer. She's not nearly at that celestial level on piano (she's good, only not like Judith Hill, closer to pop divas Alicia Keyes and Imogen Heap). She is determinedly idiosyncratic - she has a particular affinity for conservative 50's swing. She is a charismatic performer (honed, like Bette Midler, at gay nightclubs). Her earlier albums were full of clever music ideas and witty hooks, and her growth as an artist in the past has included distinguished undertakings in theater and film, while her songwriting has not matured. But it's been a stressful passage, and she's feisty and brave; like the Dixie Chicks, she took on Columbia Records and won...sort of.

1) This album was a very good idea. Nellie's kind of played out the role of intimidatingly brilliant ingénue, and this showcases her vocal talents better, I think, than most of her own songs do (maybe because in her own songs, you have to keep a close eye out for irony, word-play, and acerbic sarcasm...and here, she doesn't need either).

Doris Day is a great choice for a retro album, partly because she, like Nellie, was smarter than most of the girls, and had to play the roles of big band girl singer, dumb pretty blonde, and undergo all the sexual harassment that was endemic for women in that era and industry. She sued her corrupt management, and won.

Underneath the 50s veneer, Day was a magnificent stylist in both big band and mainstream pop - "Sentimental Journey" and "Secret Love." Nellie's style evokes Doris Day without imitating her. Unfortunately "Secret Love" is not on this compendium. There's a reason for this, I think: McKay has chosen to do a kind of, well, consciously *jazz* version of the songs. That's unfortunate, because while she has great vocal instincts, the songs are poorly accompanied (e.g., "Mean To Me" has a delicious vocal, but is overpowered by gratuitous, busy guitar fills). In other words, she has bad taste.

2) If she was going to do this album, I wish she had gotten an arranger, a la Linda Ronstadt and Nelson Riddle, rather than getting studio musician odds and ends together and improvising head arrangements in the studio. 『Waited in anticipation for this movie, I like micheal j. fox, joan jett, and even gena rowlands, how many of us have a g.r. for a mom? What i wished i'd had was a joan jett sister. My older sister liked dan fogelburg (barf). The music was fantastic, would have liked to have heard the hunz alittle more. Loved the suprise revelation j.j. laid on her mom on her death bed. This is a great representation of real life and i applaud their effort. My only problem was i couldn't find a decent vhs copy, the ones i bought had glitches in them would very much like a dvd. If you love rock, and love joan jett you'll enjoy this movie. Finally saw her in concert recently, she still looks good and plays very well. T.y. N.R.J.』

『Being we never had a stateside release of this film on dvd, lets see a U.S.A. blu-ray release! The music is awesome, the acting is incredible (esp on Joan Jett and Gena Rowlands behalf).

I have copies on VHS tape, but I just upgraded everything in my entertainment center to hi-def 1080P plasma and bluray. In otherwords, there is no more vcr in my entertainment center!

Blu-ray would make this movie even more incredible!

Not many people remember that this film was originaly slated to be titled "Born in The U.S.A.". Then Bruce released the tune he wrote for this film on his album titled of the same name (and he was originally to be cast in the film as well). 『I was really worried about this movie because I thought the director might get new actors or give Wishbone a different voice. (Thank goodness they didn't do that) Not this movie! It is fantastic; Wishbone is still voiced by Larry Brantley, and Joe, Ellen, Wanda and all the others are played by the original actors. The only disappointing thing is that David is not in the film.

The plot of this movie is about a man from Chaparosa, Texas. His name is Bill Longley (played by Wishbone) and his friend is Tom Merwin. They tame the land together but a man named Calliope Catesby is roughen up the town, which makes an action packed shootout on Bill and Tom's hands. Also, in Oakdale, Wanda Gilmore saves a girl when a falling beam almost hits her. Everyone is treating Wanda as a hero, but a sneaky TV reporter tries to make her out as a town tyrant.

I really wish this movie was in theaters because it was made so well. Running at about an hour and a half kids and adults won't be bored. This is such a special movie that I would be a fool not to recommend it.

Though I believe the film may star a new Wishbone, the doggy acting was still quite charming, and the usual gang are all back in fine form, with the additional fun of seeing a much more grown up David. What really makes this movie fabulous are the perfectly acted western sequences. Calliope, the town drunk, is nothing short of hilarious, but in addition to some really good laughs, the story also offers a very warm and meaningful moral highlight. Even my critical husband was impressed....This is great family fun your kids will enjoy watching over and over again!』

(One of the worst movies ever made, debate or no debate)
『I'm rather humored, or disgusted, by the many good reviews of Listen to Me. This is one of the worst movies ever made, be it as a "debate" movie, or an "80's" movie, or whatever. It has terrible writing, terrible acting, and just a terrible premise.

Now, I'm biased. I teach debate, and as a result, I saw this film in the theatre. And it was so bad it was hilarious to debaters (maybe that is something to recommend about it). The script was essentially a wet dream of what debate should be like according to one debate coach, whose standards of debate were quite dubious at best (I knew him and had to deal with him). The debate part of the film is the worst of 80s montage movies. Not only is it just wrong in most respects (a plan in 2AR? Please! Even novice high schoolers know that's BS), its quite simply one of the most melodramatic and formulaic movies in the history of cinema. The one scene that just killed me was the final round in front of the Supreme Court (yeah, right), against Harvard, wearing three piece suits and using computers (beyond the pale, both in terms of the computers and the fact that Harvard (!) debaters would be in three piece suits--real college debaters know the truth).

But even if you were to dismiss my complaints as akin to my father's complaints about Vietnam movies not being "accurate," it's just a bad, bad, bad movie. It's laughable. It's sad, it's so laughable. Terrible flick. Watch it like you would watch "Plan Nine from Outer Space."』

『I have had this heater for 1 month. We bought this to save money over the expensive propane cost for heating the high ceilings. This heater is ideal for small 10x12 rooms with closed doors. Looks sleak with an elegant design and a remote that allows control from distance. It doesnt take long for the room to hear from 61 in the morning to 71 and shuts off after the set temp is reached. One thing I dont like is the heater restarts too soon after shutting off (after it has reached the desired temp)...I have thermal windows and the heater is too sensitive to temp drops - leading to high energy costs. In addition, no trip-up control when a pet/kid hits the heater. It is relative quiet but i havent used it in the bedroom.』

『I bought this thing two weeks ago and it worked just fine at first. Last night I woke up sweating like mad and went over to the unit see why it was so hot in the room. The thermostat on the unit was reading 85 and was still running. I had it set to 70 and verified that it was still set to automatic for this temp. The power cord was scorching hot and probably would have caught fire if this happened when I wasn't at home. I will never buy another thing from Lasko for as long as I live.』

『I bought one of these last year to put in my bedroom because I live on a three-floor townhome and the termostat is on the second floor. My bedroom is very large and the little heater did a great job warming it up. So I decided to get a couple more heaters, one for the guest bedroom and one for my basement office. They did such a great job and made my energy bill so much lower that I brought the guest room heater to the living room and turned off the central heat.

This year, I went to a store and saw them at a lower price, so I went ahead and bought another one to put back in the guest bedroom. They are really great because not only do they have remote controls, but they also have an auto setting, so you can program the temperature you want and just leave it on. Programming is as easy as pushing a button to set it higher or another one to set it lower, and the heater thermostat makes sure the room stays at about the temperature you set. This product is so good that two of my friends went ahead and bought some for their houses after they came over and I told them about how happy I am with them!

Here are my thoughts on this product:

PROS
- light and easy to carry around if you want to move it from one room to another
- durable, the ones I bought a year ago work as great as they did when I bought them
- convenient and easy to use remote control
- easy to use digital control on the unit
- automatic temperature setting
- heats up the space quickly, even larger rooms
- does not use much electricity
- nice design, easy on the eyes
- cheap and small enough that you can get one for each room of your place
- for multi-floored homes, if working with central heaters it will help level the heat throughout the place

CONS
- after thinking a lot, I realized that the only con is that you have to be careful where you store the remote control during the summer. I had put the ones that are in rooms where there are drawers in the drawers, but can't remember where I put the remote for the unit in my living room. So, if you purchase this during the cold months, come up with a system for storing the remotes at a place you will remember by the time it gets cold again next year.

When I received the first outlet it almost exploded when I plugged it and pulled the switch. 『I work in the IT industry, so every time people move offices they come to me for a power strip. I buy these power strips regularly because:

1. They have seemed to protect adequately for surges
2. They are very compact
3. They are cheap!!!!
4. The big one-- the power switch is on the side where the power cable exits the strip. This has a big advantage.

You'd be amazed how many times people, cleaning crews or others accidentally flip the power switch on a power strip that may be under the edge of a desk or in an area that can get bumped but isn't easily seen. That also causes problems because people don't understand why their stuff isn't working. Having the switch on the side dramatically reduces the frequency with which I get calls because "stuff stopped working"... No one ever expects the simple answer and always assume a device has gone bad, etc.

The color fits in with your average office creme color, and unless you are going to get a power squid or UPS I wouldn't spend more on a power strip than the cost of this.』

『I wanted a basic power strip with surge protection. This one just fits my needs.
It has surge protection for small appliances (up to 555 Joules), and only basic Electro-Magnetic protection. So this is not for TV/sound equipments (which are sensible to EM interferences).
The design is sleek, but the 6 outlets are closely spaced, and if you use more than one power adapter, you will find this unit won't suit your needs. Once you plug two adapters, that's about it !

For a computer / TV use I recommend outlet strips from Smart Strip such as the Smart Strip LCG5 Energy Saving Power Strip with Auto switching Technology and Modem/Coaxial Surge Protection, which gives you plenty of outlet space, surge/EM protection, and saves you money on standby power.』
