『This movie is loosely based on a real life person Rosemarie Nitribitt. It's a really good German drama about a wild girl who uses her looks and manipulation to get ahead. There is some great acting here by Nina Hoss and Matthieu Carriere.』
『German actress Nina Hoss gives a commanding performance inA Girl Called Rosemarie, based on the true story of a modern-day courtesan. During West Germany's rise to economic recovery in the 1950s, Rosemarie Nittribit (Hoss) pulls out of orphaned destitution by selling herself, using her wits as much as her charms to slowly elevate her social status. She gets embroiled with a wealthy industrialist named Konrad Hartog (Heiner Lauterbach) whom she expects to marry--only to discover that he already has a fiancée. While coping with this blow to her plans, a French businessman trains her in good manners and upper-class fashion so that she can help him blackmail German businessmen; but Rosemarie never stops trying to win back Hartog, until utter abandonment leads her to seek revenge. Attention to detail and compelling performances make this movie an exemplary portrait of sex, power, and manipulation.--Bret Fetzer』

(Better Than I Expected!)

『Over the years I've always read what a bad film this was, so I was pleasantly surprised when I bought this DVD and found the film to be quite good. I think Christopher Lee is a perfect Sherlock Holmes! Granted, it is a disappointment that he was POORLY dubbed in the American version, but this is something I can overlook because the film is a compelling mystery. Besides, Lee is often dubbed in these European films he made in the 60's, like Mario Bava's "THE WHIP AND THE BODY" and "HERCULES IN THE HAUNTED WORLD"; the lame Italian comedy "UNCLE WAS A VAMPIRE"; "THE TORTURE CHAMBER OF DR. SADISM", etc. So, if you can get past that, you'll find an intriguing and well-paced thriller well worth a look for fans of Lee and/or Holmes. The picture is ok, the print is a bit scratched here and there, and is presented full-frame (my big complaint). I'd rather have a widescreen picture myself. Lee is so tall, often the top of his head is cut-off here. Still, I enjoyed it and do recommend it quite highly.』

(Very nice costumes&a interesting set.)

『This is a little bit more like a ice show that has been made into a movie. But it is interesting. The children are cute and the historical charactors and costumes are very nice. Katarina had a bit of a problem to deliver her lines. She should take a few more classes. But as an olympic gold metal winner of course her skating and dramatic flair was beyond question the best. The story of course is that the prince falls in love with a 'common' women and wants to get married. He of course has to give up his throne to marry her, but by the end they have found a way he can keep her and the throne.

Katarina is a beautiful women and well accepted in Europe. I am surprised that they are not offering her more jobs here in America. I know I would like to see more of her in various specials and other programing.』

『This movie is one of my favorites. It came out quite a few years ago and I first saw it on TV in 1998. I personally love the music of this movie and especially love that I can watch this movie in such a small amount of time. I have always been a fan of Katarina Witt and will always be impressed with her style of skating. This film is an original, it was produced in 1997, long before Disney's Ice Princess was probably even on the drawing board, so there is no rip off of titles or themes. There is an European influence on this movie and it shows. I hope that other's look at this movie for the artistry behind it and enjoy it!』

『I was interested in seeing this movie, so I rented it from Netflix. Anyway, I really didn't care for it. Certain parts were alright, but I could've done without some too. If you want to see a good skating movie, rent Cutting Edge.』
