This time, he's out of Sick Wid It records and he released it under his own label Shot Records. I loved his first one, and"Six Figures"is a bit better and quite different. First of all, D-Shot is the one who produced the album. And to tell you the truth I was quite amazed by his production abilities. I had no idea the boy had SO MUCH TALENT. His beats are awesome and I wish he produced for other people as well. His music is some of the best I've heard. Another difference is that on this album he features a lot of guest rappers to help him out. He may be out of Sick Wid It but he brought a lot of their players on his album and others too. Rappers featured are : E-40, B-Legit, Levitti, Suga T, Mr. Malik, Young Mugzi, Mac Shawn, Too $hort, Spice 1, G-Note... Quite an impressive list, isn't it? I loved all of them of course, but I wish D-Shot had more solo songs. 1 solo song out of 10 songs isn't enough. I think he IS a very good rapper and should've rapped more. But he preffered handling production and executig the record. The last difference from his debut is that on this one all the hook are by singers. But don't let that deter you! Because the hooks are VERY tight and take nothing from the songs! D-Shot should keep up with his label and keep putting such quality material out.』

Unlike the works of Karlheinz Stockhausen, Morton Subotnick and Iannis Xenakis which have become well-known and legendary, Plaetner's electronic creations have been obscure and forgotten at best. With the release of eight of his electronic works on this CD from the Danish Dacapo label (distributed by Naxos in the U.S.), we can finally hear just how innovative and ahead his time Jorgen Plaetner really was.
The CD opens with a 1962 work entitled "Beta". After a brief introduction of wavering sinewave tones, we are treated to a mass of synthetic rhythms that are not to far removed from todays techno and industrial music. This definitely does not sound like anything from over 40 years ago but more like the music of today. "Modulations" also from 1962 features random note sequences stacked ontop of each other which build with intensity and distortion until at the end, it sounds like an analog computer gone mad. "Nocturne" from 1963 provides a brief change of pace with its chirping and oscilating sine waves accompanied by a live flute. The flute/electronics pairing on this piece is very reminiscent of the music of early Kraftwerk and brings to mind "Morgenspaziergang" from their classic album "Autobahn". "The Lovers" from 1965 once again brings in a human element to the electronic sounds - this time in the form of the spoken poetry of Poul Borum. The industrial-like sounds combined with Borum's spoken words bear a striking similarity with what was heard on the first two albums by the band Kluster ("Klopfzeichen" and "Zwei Osteri"). These two albums feature the same principle of dramatic text read over electronic noise as is the case with Plaetner's work heard on this CD. "Figures In Water" from 1971 is more of an abstract electronic work with various blips, bleeps and drones that occur at random. From the middle of this piece onwards, the sounds become quite similar to that of Morton Subotnick and are in the same vein as his classic electronic piece "Touch". "Hieronymus Bosch" from 1974 is also a study in random abstract sounds and the silences between the sounds and notes play a major role in this piece. "Sonata For Tape Recorder" also from 1974 can be considered the centerpiece of the entire CD. This 14-minute work is a tour-de-force in musique concrete and tape manipulated sounds. The first half of the work consists mostly of the manipulated sounds while the second half shifts into the pure electronic sounds. There is definitely an influence of Karlheinz Stockhausen heard in this work. Finally, this CD closes with the 1962 work "Alpha" (the companion to the disc's opening piece "Beta"). Unlike the techno-charged rhythmic excursions that made up "Beta", "Alpha" is a rhythmless textured work that experiments with volume, crescendo and abrupt cut-offs in the sine wave generated electronics.
The question that kept popping into my mind as I was listening to this CD was "Why wasn't Plaetner more well known?". The music heard on this CD is some pioneering stuff indeed and was way ahead of its time when it was created. While I doubt that many of today's electronic artists will never site Plaetner as an influence because of his obscurity, his presence is definitely felt into today's electronic music whether it be the above mentioned Kluster and Kraftwerk or industrial dance bands like Prodigy. With this said, Jorgen Plaetner's "Electronic Music" from Dacapo Records is definitely essential. If you enjoy electronic music whether it's from the early days or more recent, this is a disc that is an absolute must.』

(video for older kids) 『I bought this video to use in a third grade CCD class that I teach. When I previewed it, I was impressed with the effort that was put into the production of the film. But I did not show it to my class because some of the movie was too graphic for their age group. Also, some of the language would've been difficult for them to understand. I would recommend this video for the upper grades 5-6. The children narrating the movie are about that age. I wouldn't recommend it to use with younger children.』
(Disappointed in this purchase) 『This DVD was very disappointing for several reasons. The main character (a boy) was contentious toward his father on several occasions, yet received no real correction for it and showed no sign of repentance. Several children meet up at night without any parental supervision on different occasions, and at one point two of the boys get into a brawl. I honestly could only handle watching about 30 minutes of this and had to turn it off. I would not show this DVD to my children because of the ill fruit it might produce in their character. The portrayal of Jesus and his disciples seemed much more on track with what I was looking for. Again, I did not watch the entire DVD, so it's possible that things improve with the children, but I wouldn't waste my time waiting to see.』

It was a little fragmenting in the opening scenes having the children each recall bits and pieces about Jesus .... you didn't know who the main character was! There were angels speaking to Mary, a baby, a temple scene, a Baptism, etc. all within a couple of minutes....
I guess that is the problem of narrating a story through the eyes of someone else, and not letting the Scriptures speak straight to you. You have to go through the 'filter' of that character; and are forever limited to seeing things from their point of view (or how the narrator portrays them). But that is a more general point about the 'narrative'.
I think movies etc. are good but especially for the younger child, who can't read; but the younger they are the more they need a movie that simply tells the story of Jesus; and does so slowly and simply, focusing upon Jesus from start to finish...For that reason the movie that just puts the Bible into pictures (as far as possible) is to be preferred- especially for the very little ones... but I recognise each child is different
I think they will get bored if the scenes change so quickly they loose the thread, not because it takes two minutes to show the wonder of say the birth; a flash back taking 10 seconds or whatever is rushing the story. i.e. I don't think much is gained by making a short version. Children love to stop and wonder where adults pass over in familarity. It is all new to them... enjoy it, dramatise the wonder... don't rush it!
I'll be going back to the original 'Jesus' movie first!... and seeing if that better meets my expectations of a film that conveys the story of Jesus in a memorable visual way to in my case young children. The ficticious characters seemed to get in the way. 』

I have an opportunity to learn about painting from a master watercolorist and observe what he's doing at the same time. Reid's painting style is wonderfully open with a use of color both loose and precise, so that most us want to know more about how he does it. After reading and enjoying several of his previous books, I find this is his best attempt yet at showing us what he does and how he does it.
Many artists aren't very articulate when it comes to describing what they do, but Reid is a very clear writer. I appreciate his analysis of his pieces, what works and what doesn't, as well as his tips about how to achieve certain effects. His sections on contour drawing and mixing colors are excellent as is his section on brush strokes. Even if you don't paint like Charles Reid, I think there's a great deal of value in this book for you, because Charles Reid is painting out of that great tradition of impressionism - catch the moment, catch the light - and this book goes a long way towards showing you just how it's done.』

I have several other books by Charles Reid, so some of the information in this book has already been covered in those books. If this is your first Charles Reid book, I think you will find it especially helpful. He talks about materials, his palette of colors he uses, contour drawing, brushwork, value, color mixing, etc. He has section on painting figures, landscapes, and also a section on working from photos. He does have books on just painting the figure, and if you like to paint people, as I do (I have Portraits and Figures in Watercolor), those have more exercises geared toward that goal. As for myself, I just enjoy his beautiful paintings and unique style (and watching the progression of his work from his earlier books), and the book is worth buying for that alone. I could never afford to buy one of his paintings, but get to see them whenever I like by looking through his books. Doing the exercises definitely helps, as I learned to paint with watercolor from doing the exercises from some of his earlier books. I think the most helpful solution is just to paint. First of all, this is a book for intermediate and advanced artists. Foundational knowledge of anatomy is required to fully appreciate and follow along with the lessons.
This book is about creating realistic poses for life drawing. Examples show how forces inside the body and outside (gravity or objects) act on the human figure, and how the body reacts to the force.
There are lots of tips and illustrated examples on strong and memorable poses, such as the using of structure and form, overlaps, foreshortening, silhouettes etc. The explanations are clear and simple, even very sketchy illustrated examples bring the point across with very few lines.
While many instructional drawing books teaches how to draw, this book teaches how to think before drawing. Whenever I draw, I always remind myself of the tips to help prevent my characters from being too static.
Additionally, there are also chapters on handling clothing, drawing on location and drawing animals.

Upon receiving it and reading the first few chapters I saw that this book knew the mistakes I made when I drew and it explained not only why I made them but how I can avoid them as well. This book will cover things like feature exaggeration, shape, form and line function(and it will tell you why its a bad idea to have a million lines that do nothing). There is too much in this book to put in a review such as this one.

(Excellent insights into figure drawing) 『It seems that many of the reviewers of this book make reference to the time it takes to make a complete figure drawing using Ryder's "method", and that this figures in to their estimation of the book. For those of use not interested in spending 20 hours methodically refining the figure through a series of well defined steps, it seems easy to dismiss a book which advocates just that approach. However, this is unfair.
While Ryder does advocate a lengthy, involved and deliberate approach... his book has value beyond that. His explanations of the envelope, linear block in, contour construction, and shading are so fully developed and so well explained, that I learned a lot about figure drawing in general... things applicable to other approaches to figure drawing, and drawing in general.
I rate this book as VERY HIGH value. Don't be put off by the "method" that he teaches. All realists teach a method... which seems to be the specific form in which they integrate their knowledge. You have to extract the knowledge from their methodological approach in order to apply it to your own method... or to consider it apart from the method, if you don't think you want to work in that way.』

Ok, so here we have a Blue Spartan from Halo 2, as you can see, a nice orange trim (will vary), included a shotgun and brute shot, a shiny visor, and nice details! Really, you should order a Red Spartan with this toy to recreate those Multiplayer battles for those with an Xbox-imagination edition. The model itself is rather large than I expected, but the bigger it is, the bigger the weapons included are!
Now for the bad: It needs more weapons and not just the stupid shotgun and brute shot. Way too big, looks more like some silly Toys-R-Us packaging, and at the back, it advertises more figures, gives a "this figure is from a M-rated game", and does a little explanation of the character.
Either way, buy it. Even though the game is 17-years or up, the toys are 8-years or up. Hmmmm.... Looks like a good Birthday present or Christmas.』

A Cartoon Comes to Life With a visual style based on the show, Manny and his friends will capture kids' attention. Manny stands approximately eight inches tall, and is dressed in a bomber jacket and blue jeans. His arms, legs and head are adjustable, and he can easily be positioned to sit on his bike. Manny's two friends, Rusty and Felipe, are more than just props -- they are functional tools, which can be used to tighten the motorcycle's screws and bolts.
The bike itself has a green paint job, and many of the parts have a metallic sheen to them. Sturdy and well-constructed, the motorcycle can drive on hard surfaces like other toy vehicles. Two Game Modes Most of the action is focused around the motorcycle's two voice-instructed game modes: Fix-It Mode and Customize Mode. The games are designed to teach children the basic parts of motor vehicles. Players can install and remove a variety of parts, including the engine, the front tire, the fork, the muffler, and the seat bar. There is also a side car, where Rusty and Felipe can sit as passengers while Manny drives.
Installing parts is both intuitive and enjoyable, and gives kids a sense for how real tools function. When a child installs a part, Manny talks and identifies each part in an affable and enthusiastic voice. Also, Manny says phrases in both English and Spanish, adding an extra educational element to the toy.
