『I'm not sure if it was St Joseph I buried in the front yard or dropping the price of my house to $120,000 below what I bought it for, but my house did sell. ;-)』

(St Joseph, more than magic)

『St. Joseph's power is legendary when it comes to selling homes. However, it is certainly more than magic. St. Teresa of Avila said that she never said a prayer to St. Joseph without receiving an answer. Either she received that for which she asked or she knew he had something better in store for her, for St. Joseph's greatest desire was for her to live out God's dream for her. Even as he is invoked for the sale of a home, St. Joseph desires us to fulfill all God's desires for us in our life. Sometimes, these ways are mysterious. The stories I have researched bear out this mystery in the goodness of St. Joseph.

At the same time, St. Joseph was given the care of Jesus and Mary and understands the fear and struggles we go through to provide for and protect our families. If we entrust ourselves to his protection he will care for us as he cared for the Holy Family.

『I live in a fairly new development and had my home for about a year and a half. I placed my home on the market since February of this year and purchased the St. Joseph selling kit did everything that I was supposed to and Have seen no results. I am a believer and a catholic, i really truly believed that it would work and now October is soon to be over and still no sale. The property is priced right, in immaculate condition and still nothing. Buyers even purchase the same house from the builder and not mine. Hmmmmm...』

『After my father became terminally ill, we decided to sell their home to help with expenses and have them move in with me. We put the home on the market in late February 2009 and had very little interest (one low ball, insulting offer in April). Following my fathers death, I returned to his home (still on the market) after purchasing this statue. We had no other showing since the first and only offer. I buried this statue the day after my fathers funeral in June -- 13 days later we were under contract with an offer that was great. The price was lower than we initially expected, but there were no contingencies attached (not even a finance or inspection contingency). We closed 4 weeks later.

I am not religious and I don't beleive in this type of hocus pocus--my dad did. Many friends told me about this and after 5 months on the market with no real activity I was desparate. Next time I try to sell a house I will use St. Joseph from day one.

I did return to my parents house after closing to dig up St. Joe and give him an honored spot in my house -- as tradition dictates. If you are selling a house -- you must use this.』

(Go Figure: A lost gem of an 80's debut)

『Gary Myrick hit the highway from his Texas home for the golden promise of Los Angeles. By 1980, his strong guitar playing and songwriting led to a recording contract and this debut album. His three piece backing band, The Figures, were to Gary what The Attractions were to Elvis Costello, a bass/drums/keyboards power trio to support Gary's energetic, new wavey delivery. There was also more than a touch of The Clash and Sex Pistols (listen to his occasional vocal slip into Johnny Rotten turf) involved. The nine originals plus one engaging Kinks cover were a rousing opening salvo.

Gary Myrick and The Figures was a muscular outing, darker and more stark than many of the more famous New Wavers to explode out of Los Angeles in the early 80's (think The Motels or The Knack). Instead of the power pop of these bands, Myrick was looking for grittier turf even as he knocked out several catchy songs. "She Talks In Stereo" was the big attention getter, and probably has become his signature song. But there's also "She's So Teenage" and "The Party," There was even a shot at writing a Mellencamp/Petty type of 'hit' with "Deep In The Heartland"; oddly enough it is the only dud in the bunch.

I was surprised to finally find this on CD as Myrick's albums have been on my wishlist for a couple decades now. Even bigger a surprise is a live set as bonus tracks. Covering 9 of the debut's songs (minus "Heartland"), from a gig at LA's Whiskey A-Go-Go. While I think his second album, Living in a Movie, is a better album by a razor thin margin, this first album is still a winner for collectors of 80's obscurities.』

(Unsung 80's Guitar Hero)

『30 years ago I walked into a club on the Sunset Strip and was lucky enough to uncover a gem of a band called Gary Myrick and The Figures. After being blown away by their live performance, I knew I had to buy their album. The 80's was not known as a decade for producing guitar heroes, but listen to tracks like, "Meaningless", "Model", and "Ever Since The World Began", and you'll see why he's worthy of greater appreciation. While Gary and his band have their own sound, this should appeal to folks who like The Knack and The Cars.』

(Long lost treasure)

『What a treat it was to find this long-lost treasure finally released on CD! Released way back in 1980, this album documents a rocker's approach to New Wave music at a time when music and radio were undergoing big changes and MTV was just over the horizon.

The album yielded a minor hit with the classic "She Talks In Stero". Other strong tracks include "Living Disaster", "Ever Since The World Began", "Model", and my vote for best track on the album, "The Party".

As an added bonus, we get nine live tracks, five of which are previously unreleased. In the early 1980s, I found a "promo only" copy of this album with a slightly different cover and a second album of live tracks. For whatever reason I didn't buy it and I've been looking off and on for 25 years for a promo copy of that album. This release brings together those tracks and gives those of us who weren't fortunate to see them live, a taste of what Gary Myrick and The Figures were like in a live setting.

If you like New Wave and/or 80s music I think you'll enjoy this long-lost treasure.』

『I LOVE Scott Hamilton. The reason I love to watch Scott is because he is so full of energy and skates fun-to-watch programs. I was so disappointed in this DVD. I did not know who Michael Feinstein was, MOST of the music was very slow. If you like slow music, you will enjoy this dvd. But if you like high energy skating, you will be dissappointed.』

『I wish I could get my money back on this. It was all about entertainment and the pianist whose personality I found grating. A showy night club like atmosphere, not at all what I expected with fine skaters and classical music. It is a testament to this man's indie-pop songwriting finesse, that perhaps his least popular major studio offering, which has been criticized of inconsistencies, remains a pretty solidly engaging disc. It's ok not to call the influential arranger super-unique; Smith's gifts were for taking what had influenced him so profoundly and molding it in clever and exciting new ways. Few would be able to make derivative sound so fresh and inspired.』

『There is no doubt in my mind that this sits at the same height as The Beatles' greatest work and should be listened to by everyone who likes them. While it is admittedly much more down in the lyrical content, the melodies are sublime and joyous in a way. I started out with Either/Or but this is much, much better, and next I'll be getting his self titled.

Regardless of whether you like his early albums, here Elliot Smith is at the peak of his compositional powers and you should definitely listen to this album.』

(Early Lo- Fi to a More Lavish Multi-layered Release....)

『Steven Paul Smith was born on August 6, 1969 in Omaha. He later changed the name Steven to Elliott. He felt it sounded less "jock-like."
I do believe Elliott Smith had a really amazing if not sad and lonely kind of voice. I can feel a bit more uplifting type of mood coming from Elliott Smith's Figure 8, his best and last studio record before he died. Ever since the end of his band Heatmiser, his solo work became more personal and less abrasive. It's hard to imagine at one point he was part of just another small punk/grunge band, who not many have heard of.
Many would prefer "Either/Or." Which seems optimistic at times, but kind of sad to me. At this time few singer/songwriters could match Elliott's level of intensity through lo-fi "folk-punk" intimacy. That release sparked interest in the director of Good Will Hunting, Gus Van Sant- who used some of Elliott's songs for his picture. They met while Elliott lived in Portland. Also this exposure proppelled Elliott Smith to major-label status from Kill Rock Stars to Dreamworks. And then came XO in 1998. And Figure 8 in 2000. In my opinion this is his best. It flourishes with rich, multi-layered and more lush tracks. Not as intimate as his earlier solo works w/ the exception of "Everything Means Nothing to Me." This does seem happier though, at least compared to his other works. Definately one of the best solo albums and one of my favorites of this millenium. A wonderful timeless album from one of the better singer/songwriters after those "grunge era" days. My favorites here include: "Son of Sam"- "Junkbond Trader" -"Stupidity Tries" - "Easy Way Out" - "In the Lost&Found" -(for this song Elliott uses the same Abbey Road piano Paul McCartney played on "Penny Lane")
Elliott Smith has always been a long time Beatles fan. Even covered their song "Because"- which is on a import of Figure 8. I really do feel he approaches a kind of greatness w/ this almost perfect solo work. I just wish he was still alive creating more.
It's just really sad the way Elliott Smith died. Two stab wounds in his chest from a kitchen knife. And I believe the coroner at the time never came to a conclusion whether it was a homicide or a suicide. His death was on October 21 2003.
I give Figure 8- 5 stars. It is my favorite Elliott Smith album, if you haven't heard Elliott Smith before you really should give this a listen. Or pick up "Either/Or" if you like a softer sound, but both are essential from him.』

(Musical masterpiece)

『I would agree with Patrick Burnett's comments from 5 years ago. I recently ended a relationship and Elliott has been on repeat since the summer. His music fits perfectly with those moments where you feel like there is nothing left. But in a way, the beauty behind his music lifts your spirit like nothing else. "Everything Means Nothing To Me" was the first song I ever heard from Elliott just last year and it is a small portion of the brilliance found throughout this whole album.

The acoustically amazing "Somebody I Used to Know" and "I Better Be Quiet Now", the very Beatlesque "Pretty Mary K" and "Happiness" are just a few of the standouts in my mind. "Bye" is such a haunting album-ender that gives me chills everytime I hear the echo of the piano.

"Figure 8" has such a wide variety of sound that only a musical genius like Elliott Smith could create. His soft angelic voice along with beautiful melodies make this an album that will forever be labeled "perfection" in my mind. Rest in peace Elliott, your spirit lives on.』

『I do not agree with some of the comments made by some of the reviewers of this tape. The controversy over the win by the Russian pair was warrented. Anton stepped out of his double axel,Elena leaned forward on the throw triple,the Russian death spiral was nowhere near the Canadians and the Russian lifts only covered half the ice surface while the Canadians covered the full length of the ice.The Canadians connected with the audience better as well as connecting to themselves. The program drew you in and ranged from new found love to the total depths of despair in losing a loved one, as in the movie Love Story.I think Sale and Peltier gave one of the all time great figure skating performances. They deserved 6's.But don't take my word for it. The commentators of this event,who are themselves figure skaters, said the Canadian performance was perfect and were shocked, as I was when the marks came up.Sale and Peltier finally received a gold medal, but there marks will remain the same for history. What a shame!!!!』

『Please don't buy this product. I made the mistake of purchasing it, hoping to view Shen and Zhao's long program.

NBC's bias was enough to keep me from viewing the tape more than once. The American pairs team (Ina/Zimmerman), who placed FIFTH, were incorporated into the video. However, Shen and Zhao of China, who were awarded the BRONZE medals, were not included. Only brief comments were made about their programs and certain maneuvers which were a few seconds in length were shown.

It does not bother me that Ina and Zimmerman were shown. If they had included Shen and Zhao's long program and the American pair IN ADDITION to the medalists, that would have been fine with me. I was upset because the Americans were included INSTEAD of the Chinese team. As an Asian immigrant, I find this particularly offensive. Please don't waste your money.』

The movies also gives good information on the pairs' controversey and the rivelry between Alexei Yagudin (men's gold medalist) and Yevgeny Plushenko (men's silver medalist).』

『I cannot believe it took me so long to watch this movie. This movie was hilarious. I just happened to see it on my sisters tv stand and borrowed it on a Sunday when I had nothing else to watch and laughed nonstop. There were so many good parts that I cannot begin saying which ones were the funniest.

My favorite characters were Jedediah and Dexter (the monkey). The look on his face when he realized he had toy keys was priceless!!! I only wished that my daughter had been in town to view this with me, we love to watch silly movies together. I ordered the 2nd installment so that I can laugh even more because if the previews are any indication, it is just as funny. I will eventually add this little gem to my DVD collection, but not right now since I have seen it courtesy of my big sister.

An irresistible concept meets computer-generated wonders in Night at the Museum, inspired by a 1993 children's book by Milan Trenc. 『I was extremely skeptical about the touted features of the St Joseph statue Home Seller. I have no doubts that God takes the time to bless pieces of plastic to help the faithful. However my faith waivers when it comes to real estate. Really, does even God have the power to sell homes in THIS ECONOMY?

So I decided to test my faith by purchasing one of these before listing my house. I was thinking of expediting shipping however the seller only offers standard. I was kinda miffed until I realized that God does things on his own time. No wonder the seller offered a 4 - 14 business day shipping window. My faith started to grow.

The item arrived exactly when God intended and I immediately put my house up for sell. In no time I started getting numerous walk-throughs and bids on my home. Jackpot! I was able to sell my house quickly and for a goodly profit. I even donated 10% of my increase to a local church to show God my gratitude.

But this is not the end of my tale, er, I mean review. Doubt crept into my mind as I thought about the statue. Did it really invoke God's blessings or was it a coincidence? After all my house was in very good shape and I didn't ask too much for it. Was I hoodwinked into buying a powerless piece of plastic?

After moving into my new house, I became very irritated with my next door neighbor. He had a pair of cats that would do their business in my yard and mess up my flower beds. One evening in frustration I chased one of my neighbor's cats out of my yard, throwing the St Joseph statue at it. I thought my aim was true but God does truly look after each sparrow (and cat apparently) and I missed. The statue ended up in my neighbor's backyard.

I almost forgot about that incident until two weeks later. I saw my neighbor packing up to move out of his house. I (gladly) stopped by to help him load the moving truck when he told me why he was moving. He said one evening a couple of weeks ago he started to get numerous phone calls of people wanting to buy his house. He said he wasn't thinking of moving especially after I had moved in; he said his cats really like me. However the offers he was getting were too much to turn down. He said the experience was nothing short of a miracle.

My heart started to pound, my bosom started to burn. He was selling his house because I accidentally threw my St Joseph statue into his backyard. On the day he moved I went into his backyard to recover my statue. I have used it many times since! In addition to selling my house again, I've gotten rid of three other troublesome neighbors with my St Joseph statue. Well worth the $8!

I only gave it four stars since the statue doesn't reveal beforehand what kind of neighbors you'll end up with. Of course re-application of the statue will eventually solve the problem.』
