The short stories are engaging and enjoyable for you and your child (OK, maybe not you after the 50th time, but the first few times are great!) (version differences) 『I already owned the plain version of this, released in 2001. The only extra on that version is the original theatrical trailer.
I just bought the "Gold Medal Edition", released 2006, because it was cheap and it had some extras that I didn't have on the other disc. (I haven't watched those extras yet, so I won't be reviewing them here.)
However, I noticed something very interesting. I played them side-by-side, using two computers with identical monitors that are calibrated identically. I noticed several differences in quality. Then I switched the DVDs to the opposite computers and played some of it again to verify that it had nothing to do with the monitors or computer settings.
The Gold Medal Edition runs 1hr:37min:17sec -- 97min, as advertised on the back of the case. The plain 2001 version runs 1:41:24, also as advertised on the back of its cover (it rounds up to 1:42). This doesn't seem to be from a difference in content, though. When playing them side-by-side, starting them off in perfect sync, they quickly become unsynchronized (ironic, considering the content... synchronized skating...). The Gold Medal Edition runs faster than the 2001 version. (The physical DVD itself isn't running faster; it's the way the film was transferred during production of the DVDs.) IMDB claims 1:41 running time (101min), which would suggest the 2001 version is correct; however, I don't know where IMDB got that data -- whether it matches the actual theatrical release or not.
Also, the Gold Medal Edition is _not_ anamorphic. So if you have a 16:9 TV (like an HDTV), unless your DVD player or TV automatically compensates, you'll actually get letterboxing both on the top/bottom AND on the left/right. The 2001 version is anamorphic, so there's a good chance it will look better than the Gold Medal Edition on 16:9 TVs.
Finally, the color balance is different, and the 2001 version looks more correct. One major thing I noticed is that when they're on the ice and/or wearing white, the whites look cleaner, brighter, and more white on the 2001 version. Whites on the Gold Medal Edition look yellow by comparison, and even a tiny bit green.
The picture looks cleaner, brighter, better color-balanced, and just better in general on the 2001 release.
If you can't find another version, the Gold Medal Edition is still ok, and you might want to buy that if you want the extras. But I'd recommend the 2001 version if you can find it, especially if you're picky about quality. The 2001 version has a fairly plain cover, with plum/purple text for the title. The cover doesn't mention anything about any kind of special edition. And the back cover will say "1 hour 42 minutes". (The Gold Medal Edition says "Gold Medal Edition" at the top, has white title text, and says "Approx. 97 Minutes" on the back.)』

However, the girl - "Alexis Winston," played by Lynn-Holly Johnson - is such a beautiful and sweet person that she alone makes the movie worth watching. Johnson was an accomplished skater in her own right, so she makes the skating scenes look realistic.
The bad news was the character, "Beulah Smith," portrayed by Colleen Dewhurst, an annoying butch-like foul-mouthed woman, the opposite of Johnson. Her bad mouth prevents this from being a good family film, which it could have been.Familiar '70s actor Robby Benson plays Johnson's boyfriend, but he's not all that likable, either.

The Nobel Peace Prize should be given to it's inventor. I ordered many of them over time and reordered when the old ones wore out, and then one day I saw, "No longer available." I quickly scoured the internet trying to find the last few in a warehouse somewhere, all to no avail. It was the end of an era.
Then I was elated when I saw the #428 in it's place, which even used the exact same photo to advertise. No matter the change in digit, I thought my prayers had been answered and I ordered 18 of the # 428 bras, so as to not have this happen again, as the 428 was the visual identical bra to the former #458.
Well sit down for this bad news: They do look alike, but the 428 is merely a thin and pathetic knock off of the real thing. It lacks several of the crucial interior support pieces that made the #458 function so well, and is a frail one layer cup instead of two, it doesn't lift at all, it barely minimizes, and worst of all, it's so sheer that the nipple shows through all your clothing.. The difference is like going from the real Elvis to an sleazy airport bar impersonator. Lilyette should issue nationwide apologies to us all for trying to pass this thing off as the next best thing. If you're under a B cup, fine, but if you're looking for support, lift, a well made item with longevity, skip the 428 entirely. It may look just the same, even the lacing is unchanged, but if you think you're getting one as good at the #458, you will be grossly 'let down' and sadly disappointed.』

(Devastator is expensive, no doubt, but you get what you pay for.) 『I bought this as a birthday present for my nephew (10 years old), and he absolutely loves Devastator. I can't blame him, either. Everything about Devastor is solid: Construction of the toys, the sound samples (in robot mode), the posibility and playablity of each vehicle, both on their own and when combined together. There's enough room in the mouth (which will open wide when pushing/holding down a button) to stuff smaller autobots in there to meet their maker.
The only knocks against Devastator are the lack of paint details and Mixmaster - the cement mixer. In truck mode, he does not stop making noise. There's some sort of motion/light/vibration sensor on him. A simple touch will send him into a frenzy of noises that gets old fast. Be prepared to set aside about 15 minutes or so removing Devastator from all of those dreaded twist-ties, also.
Overall, a bang up job by Hasbro. Just about anyone with an interest in Transformers will love this monstrosity!』

Your Own Transformers Experience Staying true to the movie, Devastator is massive, standing well over a foot in height and dwarfing most other Transformers toys. He is a solid, heavy, and well-built toy. Pulling a lever on his chest causes his mouth (called the Vortex Grinder) to light up with bright, neon-green LED lights. The lever also triggers battle sounds and quotes taken straight from the movie.
Devastator isn't the most flexible toy around. Because of his size, he can be a bit cumbersome to play with. However, his elbows and knees are articulated, which makes him easier to position and balance. He also has realistic details, which gives him value as a collector's replica.
Devastator consists of six smaller construction vehicles: the Constructicons. These detailed vehicles are painted in earthy colors suited for their rough construction jobs. Together, the Constructicons form a complete construction team. There is a bulldozer, a dump truck, an excavator, a scoop loader, a mixer and a crawler crane. They prove to be very maneuverable on a hard surface, able to make hairpin turns easily. However, it should be noted that, unlike their film counterparts, these vehicles do not transform into robots individually.
An Enjoyable, Challenging Assembly Devastator might be one of the biggest transformers around, but it's also one of the most difficult to put together. Parents should be aware that the Devastator requires some degree of finesse to assemble -- and in some cases, strength. Some of the snapping parts are especially tricky to connect together, and prove difficult to pry apart. The toy is labeled as a Level 4 conversion, so younger children will have difficulty converting the toy by themselves. It took our tester (an experienced Transformer player) nearly 15 minutes to figure everything out. Still, putting the toy together should provide a constructive challenge for older kids.

(Collars just don't cut it for the little Houdinis.) First, the bad news: while it fits my 11 pounder (small chest, big butt) just fine, the 14 pounder (height-weight proportionate) is uncomfortable in it. As recommended by others, he's getting the small dog model.
Other thoughts: - I'd be very surprised if my cat could wriggle out of it. - The cat seems OK with wearing the harness. Not happy. But willing to live with it. - It looks nice. - The clip is a little small. My cats are shorthairs, and I'm pretty dextrous, but fastening the clip when it's in a mound of tummy fur is kind of a pain.』
(I'll have to be different here, my cat hates it) 『It is relatively easy to adjust, allowing for a wiggly cat, and easy to put on if it's adjusted to larger than the minimum size, which is what I was looking for as my cat really struggles with putting on a regular harness. It would get five stars if this was all I had to say, but then people who need to see this review might miss it.
I think the problem is that my cat is too small for it. As I mentioned, she doesn't like having a regular harness put on, but once it's on she seems to forget it's there. With this harness she lies down on the spot as if she's too heavy to move; she doesn't jump around and play like she normally would. She just barely has an 8" neck and 12" chest, so I believe the plastic pad lying well over both her shoulder blades is uncomfortable to her.
I am also unable to adjust it as small as it really needs to be because the smaller sized neck that can go with a 12" chest does not appear to be accounted for.
My cat's small size makes it difficult to put the harness on if it's adjusted as small as it can go because the head loop is then too small to pull over her head either direction, but still too big for her neck. Having to adjust and readjust each time I put it on defeats my purpose in purchasing this model, since she again struggles during the adjustment.
Basically, if your cat just meets the minimum size requirement listed, wait until s/he grows a bit for this harness, perhaps until s/he has a 14" chest, or look at a different harness. I'm still looking for something that will work well for my cat (who is admittedly unusually small).』
(Nice harness, easy to get on cat) 『This is a great harness and is so easy to put on your cat -- just slip the smaller loop (the one without the buckle) over your cat's head, and then clasp the other loop behind their front legs/around their tummy. The flat plastic connector (the thing in the middle that looks like a black Pringle chip) sits on top of their shoulderblades. Besides being fully adjustable, which is awesome, the best feature of this harness is the swiveling ring -- so your leash never gets tangled or twisted, no matter which way your cat might turn.
Our 6-month-old cat (5.5 lbs) just barely fits into this harness (as in, it's almost too big for her), so it's probably not for smaller cats. She's not sure she likes it yet and rolls around on the ground once in a while to try to get it off. While she's wearing it, I give her treats and we play with her favorite toys in hopes that she'll start associating the harness with happy feelings. I'm confident that she'll acclimate to the harness and we'll be walking her in no time!』

(In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day) 『Whether you are a fan of Christian novels or prefer to read non-fiction literature this book is for you. The title itself leads you to believe you will be reading a story centered on an adventure with a lion that would probably not turn out very well. After all, what author would title a book, "In A Pit With A Lion On A Snowy Day?" This book is one of the most positive, thought provoking books I have read in a long time. It will challenge you to put God in perspective in your life and to get out of your seat and do things you may not have been willing or felt able to do before. The book is full of scriptural verses as well as quotes from other authors enlightening us to be the best Christian we can be. It is not a "feel good" book such as "Your Best Life Yet" by Joel Osteen but if you follow what the author is telling you to do you will recognize your own potential and seize the moment to the point that you will "feel good" naturally. I do not want to tell you much about the story because I feel each Christian should read it for themselves. What I will tell you is that the book begins with 2 Samuel 23:20-21, with Benaiah son of Jehoiada. Just a couple of points Mark Batterson makes in this book is: "Someday we may be as grateful for the bad things as the good things, because the bad things helped prepare us for the good things," and "We shuld stop asking God to get us out of difficult circumstances and start asking Him what He wants us to get out of those difficult circumstances.』

I got this for my 11 year old daughter and she had lots of fun with it except when she got to the "State Competition". SHe got very frustrated and couldn't move on because her score wasn't high enough. She's been playing over and over again and is very annoyed with the game. It's cute but the graphics really need to be worked on. Overall I would only buy this game for patient people. .』
(How about some skating?) 『I have always wondered how they would create a figure skating game. How to manuever the jumps and make it interactive with some sort of skill or ability on the player. The developers have designed an interesting tool of tracing patterns, once for each revolution, in order to complete jumps and various other stylus manuevers for spins and footwork. So i was very pleased with that. Then, they felt the need to add a storyline and a very annoying series of mini-games to strengthen your skater. You end up "skating" very little while fulfilling the requirements of your coach. You also don't have a freezone to practice manuevers and thus some can be tricky during competitions with only one run through to master say a jump combination, something you don't practice.
The townsfolk become an annoying chore to talk to with bizarre romance things and other storylines that run without your control but you have to acknowlege the dialogue or you cannot advance. The skating is fun. I just wish there was more of it. I thought what better way for a skater to strenthen their performances than to practice skating but apparently I don't understand the appeal of the mini-game. Perhaps, they'll do another one with more skating/more sport-oriented and less life-ish. For the first figure skating game that i've found, it has good potential to build on.』

The gameplay is nice, but does tend to get more difficult as you progress through the game. (Fun, then boring and hard) 『Ok, at first it is fun; skating with coach, talking to friends, and playing the fun mini games. It has kind of dull and annoying music but it's not unbearable. Also, the story-line is a bit cheesy. It is dumb becasue it won't let you do anything in your life but what is programed for you and the people talk too much. The expressions are silly, ex. when falling OOH!, and before jumps and spins, Here We Go! The graphics have some room for improvement and the accessories for the girl are wild, ex. bunny rabbit tail and devil horns and angel halo. Although, the choices of music the skater can use for her programs are nice. In fact, I looked up one of the songs on iTunes to purchase so I could use it in teh future for my program since I am a real skater. The cpstumes are generally pretty and elegant. As a real figure skater, the jumps and especially spins are inaccurate. It makes me frusterated because we, as skaters, want tpo play a game about our sport and it isn't realistic... When you reach a certain "level" as a skater, it gets frusterating and pointless. When you fall on really hard elements people boo and then you have to start that level over again. The people in your "life" make you have sore feelings and the only way to start the competion over is by turning the NDS completely off. I can only bet younger gamers would use anger and force, maybe hitting the game, or, like myself just putting the game away and ignoring it. So... it's fun, I must say.
