This book is excellent - a good quick read for kids and parents alike. My daughter is 8 yrs old and the book was very appropriate for her. Doreen Rapport and Matt Tavares have crafted a biography of this icon told through the visions of those who conceived of and created her, as well as the reflections of those for whom she represents the ideals of liberty and opportunity. In describing how the statue came to be, the book presents first person accounts by the various people involved, expressing their feelings, impressions, and commitment to the concept and creation of the Statue of Liberty. Readers will learn how De Laboulaye's vision inspired Bartholdi's design and in turn Gustave Eiffel's amazing feat of engineering. They will come to understand the backbreaking labor of the construction workers as described by Charles P. 『Lady Liberty- A Biography is just what it says, the story of the Lady from the time that she was first conceived, up to her completion and beyond, in the experiences of those that first saw her upon their arrival in the United States.

We start with Edouard de Laboulaye, a French professor of law in 1865, through the work of the sculptor Auguste Bartholdi, the engineer Gustave Eiffel, the poet Emma Lazarus and a number more. Some are very famous and some are surely unknown to us, but moving nevertheless. Those that dug the holes and those that gave their pennies...and their chickens...to see her completed. The story is told from the view point of 10 individuals who were involved with the Lady's construction, most stories spanning a two page spread, the text written in a narrow column, almost like poetry, and the rest taken up by the very beautiful illustrations of Matt Tavares.

A wonderful introduction to the Statue of Liberty for kids...but you adults will enjoy it as well, I promise.』

『LADY LIBERTY: A BIOGRAPHY is a wonderful crafted book written by Doreen Rappaport and illustrated by Matt Tavares that tells the story of the how the Statue of Liberty came to be created. The story is told in short poems spoken from the point of view of the people who made Lady Liberty and brought her to the United States. These people include Edouard De Laboulaye, Auguste Bartholdi, Marie Simon, Gustave Eiffel, Emma Lazarus, Charles P. Stone, Joseph Pulitzer, Florence De Forest, Jose Marti, and an introduction written by Doreen Rappaport. In some cases the biographical poems use the actual words of the people who spoke them. The end of the book has a few selected quotes from immigrants who legally came to the United States and passed by Lady Liberty, as well as a page full of the Statue of Liberty's measurements, and another page presented a timeline of important events in her creation and life. The book does an excellent job of illustrating how it was the people of France and the United States, and not the respective governments of those countries, who made the Statue of Liberty possible. The book is really well researched and is beautifully illustrated. I even learned something from reading this book; I didn't know that Liberty Island was originally called Bedloe's Island. LADY LIBERTY: A BIOGRAPHY is an excellent historical children's book.』

『Doreen Rappaport and Matt Tavares have created an incredibly beautiful and moving book in Lady Liberty: A Biography. Each page features the perspective of those involved in building and promoting the monumental Statue of Liberty, from Auguste Bartholdi the sculptor to Emma Lazarus, the poet that created the words that grace the bottom of the statue. The illustrations are absolutely beautiful and accompany the text perfectly. Also included are the dimensions of the statue and the important events surrounding Lady Liberty, from construction to completion.

This book is an must have for all library and school collections, never have I come across a better description of how the Statue of Liberty was created and the emotions it evoked in the many different people connected with her. I loved reading each page and savored the lovely illustrations. Though the size of a picture book and about the same length in pages, I think I involved myself for close to an hour while reviewing it. I really believe kids will love to read this book, especially if they've seen the Lady up close, and adults will enjoy it in the same way I have, savoring the facts and the illustrations alike. A lot of other bloggers have posted about this title, all positively as far as I can tell, and I'm certainly in agreement with them. Definitely a must-have!』

Several years ago, I first read this book to my second grade class, for the purpose of focusing on illustrations. I never anticipated this book would have meant so much to my students and to myself as a long-time educator. I have given this book many times as gifts for: young teachers entering the profession, fellow teachers who have re-located, and lately to colleagues who are retiring. It's a perfect gift!』

(A BEAUTIFUL TRIBUTE TO TEACHERS EVERYWHERE)
『My Great Aunt Arizona by Gloria Houston, and illustrated by Susan Condie Lamb is a true tribute to teachers everywhere. I have seldom been touched by a book for young men and women as much as this one. The story is simple, but it is one of the most sincere works that I have seen for some time now.

The author's Great Aunt, Arizona Houston Hughes was born on Henson Creek in the Blue Ridge Mountains. She attended a one room school house and from the very start, dreamed of visiting far away places and seeing wonderful sights. The story follows the little girl, Arizona, as she grows from a young girl to a woman, a wife, mother and teacher. Yes there were hardships, obstacles placed in front of her, but her obvious determined spirit prevailed. Through sheer stubbornness and will, Arizona does indeed receive her teaching certificate and begins her life long teaching career teaching in the little one room schoolhouse where she herself attended.

The story follows the author's aunt through marriage, the birth of her child and her final retirement from a profession in which she excelled. Mrs. Arizona Houston Hughes ended teaching several generations of fourth grade students and having a great impact on their lives. She lived to the age of 93.

This is a well written work. The author's low keyed, yet precise and poetic prose is almost hypnotic at times. You feel and see what the young teachers feels and sees; through her eyes and the eyes of those around her and knew her. Her wish to see far away places was never actually fulfilled literally, but was fulfilled through the wonderful gift of knowledge, curiosity and wonder that she was able to passes on to her many students.

The illustrations in this small work are wonderful and perfectly executed. Each frame fits the story line perfectly. This team of Houston and Lamb is a winner by any standard. The background, dress, details and feeling of the Blue Ridge Mountains are captured perfectly.

As a side note; I have read this same story to the same group of third graders four times now. After this lat reading I had three little girls come up after class and inform me that they wanted to be teachers just like the "lady in the book." I have to admit that I got a bit choked up over that.

This is a wonderful read for children, either on their own, or as a group read. It is a strong, strong tribute to teachers, those in a profession which I personally feel is one of the most important we have. Not only should teachers read this one, but all those that are interested in their child's education and it is a good reminder to all of us that one person can indeed make a tremendous difference in many, many lives.

『My Great Aunt Arizona is a beautifully-written, beautifully-illustrated book based on a real person, the author's great aunt Arizona. We loved the book so much we took a family vacation some years ago to see the area. The artist obviously went there and saw Henson Creek and the real places, just as we did. We saw Great Aunt Arizona's grave site, too, and met the author's mother.

We love this book so much we have donated it to a couple of libraries and given it as gifts many times. Top notch!

『This is the most comfortable bra I've had in many years. No piercing underwires, no stretchy elastic, very durable, well made. I hardly realize I'm wearing a bra.』

(Comfortable Support)
『This bra provides good support without riding up or looking lumpy in clothing as some do. The shoulder straps (to me) are a little uncomfortable, but I use pads to alleviate that. I wear a small bra size with a large cup size and am pleased to discover a bra that fits me so well.』

『This bra fit perfectly, is very supportive (I wear a 42DD), and is extremely comfortable. The fabric is smooth and cool feeling. There is no stretch in the fabric in front and only a little give in the front band which is a double layer of the bra fabric with interfacing between. There is some soft slightly stretchy elastic running along the top up either side of the front of the straps and extending under the arms to the point wear the straps are attached in back. The back band is like the front band only stretchy. I like the three hook closure because when I have to hook more than that, my hands get cramped and fatigued. The back straps are smooth strong elastic. My hands down favorite. P.S. Looks like some of the Goddess sports bras, but way different from the one I have.』

『The Pale Figures are a rock band from Chicago. The band features the song writing of Chicago based musician - Aaron Lindstrom and New York based singer songwriter Cory Larson. In 2006, Lindstrom contacted his old friend and label mate Cory Larson to talk to him about an idea he had for a recording project. Lindstrom called Larson from Sun Studio in Memphis TN., to ask him if he would be interested in recording an album at the famed Sun Studios in Memphis...Larson agreed and the plans were set into motion. Over a period of two years Larson and Lindstrom traded music through the mail. The songs that the two were writing had to meet a certain standard, they had to be simple and they needed to be written with the theme and spirit of Memphis in mind. In 2006 Lindstrom moved to Chicago and formed the band The Pale Figures with drummer - Doug Woods and started making plans to Record. The songs were written and the plans were set, The Pale Figures contacted Sun Studio to book the studio time only to find out that the studio wasn t recording albums at the time. Lindstrom called some friends in Memphis and they pointed him in the direction of Sam Phillips Recording Studio and engineer Roland Janes (formerly of the Jerry Lee Lewis Band). The Pale Figures contacted Janes, sent him some of the preproduction and Roland agreed to take the project. Studio dates were set, Larson flew to Chicago to rehearse the tunes for 2 days and the band met the next weekend in Memphis. The band recorded 11 songs over a three day period, the collection is called the Memphis Sessions. In addition, The Pale Figures thought it would be interesting to contrast the Memphis sound with the Chicago sound. The long lived rivalry between Chicago s Chess Records and Memphis s Sun Studio inspired The Pale Figures to expand the project to include the recording of 7 songs in Chicago at Electrical Audio with Steve Albini. The same rules applied as with the Memphis sessions -the songs had to be written in line with the engineering skills and reputation of Albini. The result of The Pale Figure s efforts is a CD containing 19 songs the record is titled - Memphis and Chicago. The album was released on the Lindstrom brother s record label Peacefist Records. The Band Consists of the Following Musicians: Cory Larson - Guitars and Vocals Aaron Lindstrom - Guitars and Vocals Doug Woods - Drums and Percussion Guest Musicians: Brett Vandonsel - is featured on the Chicago Sessions Record with his song Concrete Vest. 『this pride was very slow and dull compared to the others. this and the PRIDE GP opening round may have been the slowest events in PRIDE history to take place. the fights are as followed:
1)Heath Herring vs. Willie Peters-nice quick finish and good display of skill
2)Carlos Barreto vs. Tra Telligman-relatively slow match of two fighters never really tryingvery hard to finish the fight
3)Alan Goes vs. Vernon"Tiger"White-ok fight but quite slow to. some action by Alan
4)Carlos Newton vs. Naoki Sano-slick ground kills displayed by newton
5)Akira Shoji vs. John Renken-average fight. renken was quite overmatched
6)Gilbert Yvel vs. Vitor Belfort-nice opening of the fight by vitor then it's stalling to the end. not the kind of fight you would expect from either fighter
7)Igor Vovchanchyn vs. Daijiro Matsui-lot of heart shown by matsui but what did PRIDE have in mind by making this match? Matsui had virtually no chance of winning over Igor. one of the better matches on this event that didn't go too long or too short
8)Ricco Rodriquez vs. Gary Goodridge-quite dissapointing for a main event, even to a real MMA fan. good technical Ground n Pound by Ricco.
this PRIDE had its share of slow matches and quick finishes. wouldn't recommend this over any of ther others but if you want this in your collection, go for it』

(Ground and Pound returns to haunt us)
『This show has lots of my favourite fighters but it is not as stellar as RETURN OF THE WARRIORS or BATTLE OF THE RISING SUN but PRIDE FC always puts on a better show than the clowns at your local YMCA could. Newton vs Sani is impressive ... also the Vernon White v Alan Goes match is pretty exciting but there are better PRIDEs you can buy. Even the Gilbert Yvel v Vitor match turns unfortunately dull....ground and pound...BORING!!!!!!!!!! Your money is better spent on either of the two Pride's I mentioned earlier...but thats just what I reckon.』

(PRIDE FC's are a must have...PERIOD!!!)
『First off, let me start by saying PRIDE Fighting Championships is the best MMA organization in the world! The money invested in each tournament surpasses every MMA event in the US per year! One can see the difference when watching a PRIDE FC tape or DVD. PRIDE FC 9: New Blood is the fifth US release from the PRIDE organization,&hosts the top fighters from across the globe (as usual). The DVD version is packed with special features: Interactive Menus, Direct Fight Access, History of PRIDE Documentary,&Fight Highlights. The 'History of PRIDE Documentary' is a nice bonus. It highlights my favorite fighters (The Gracie's: Rickson, Royce, Royler,&Renzo). Every fight is top notch with such fighters as: Vernon"Tiger"White from the Lion's Den, Carlos Barreto&Vitor Belfort from the Brazilian Top Team, Gilbert Yvel from Golden Glory, Igor Vovchanchyn, Ricco Rodriguez,&the list goes on. I recommend purchasing the PRIDE collection in order. 1) GP 2000 Opening Rounds, 2) GP 2000 Finals, 3) 9: New Blood, 4) 10: Return of the Warriors, 5) 11: Battle of the Rising Sun. Out of the 5 US releases, they are all awesome, but PRIDE FC 10: Return of the Warriors is the best PRIDE of them all!!! Excellent KO's, Lots of Blood,&Broken Bones...the perfect combination!!!』

『I ordered this DVD under the assumption that it was a"how to hit"video. It is not. It is a highlight film of hitters which features interviews with the hitters about hitting. What I was hoping for was a breakdown of the swings of several hitters using the most modern technology -- super slow motion, zoom, multiple camera angles -- showing the mechanics of how to hit a baseball. They and a narrator would discuss these swings, from the proper grip of the bat, to stance, to swing -- weight shift, hip rotation, bringing the hands through -- to follow through. There are many nice scenes of famous hitters hitting the ball, and kind of talking about how they do it, but never any photographic or motion picture break down. I suppose I was looking for a"The Louisville Slugger Ultimate Book of Hitting"or Ted Williams'"The Science of Hitting"on DVD. This is not it. Although it IS educational, and one can use the slow motion of your DVD player to slow down and analyze the swings on one's own, it is not, in its truest sense, a"how to hit"video.』

Mark McGwire may say, "You see [the ball], you hit it," but as the 45-minute program thrillingly demonstrates, it is not that easy.Hitters on Hittingfields an awesome lineup of Hall of Famers and contemporary superstars, from "students of the game" (Ted Williams, Wade Boggs, and Tony Gwynn, praised here by his peers as "the thinking man's hitter") to the "naturals" (Larry Walker, Ken Griffey Jr.). The legendary Williams, the last player to hit .400, notes that hitting a baseball is the game's "hardest single thing to do" (and, he adds, perhaps the reason why so many slugger wannabes eventually give up and retire to the golf course). 『Don't waste your money. David Allen Grier was so funny when he performed on In Living Color, but I now know it's because he was great at supporting roles. When left alone, this comedian leaves alot to desire. The DVD is not good and his stand up routine is just awful. We saw him last night for New Years Eve in Atlantic City. Hard to believe he is the same guy. He had a "warm up" comedian come on before him who was hilarious. Don't spend any money on stand up or DVD's for him. You will be dissapointed. No chance here to give no stars. If I could have, I would have.』

(A Tradition to Start)
『We bought an advent calendar form Playmobil for the past 4 years. My sons absolutely loved it, particularly up to age 7 or 8. Now that they are older, it's lost it's attraction. However, I highly recommend for the 4 year old to 7 year old set!』

(Great Advent Calendar)
『My 7 year old daughter is loving this advent calendar. She couldn't care less that there's no chocolate involved. The mommy and baby animals make for good teaching moments and there's lots of potential for imagination to be involved. Thank goodness for something that's not princesses or barbies or bathed in pink. Yay nature!』

『My girls, 5 and 8, love this toy. They alternate opening boxes, which teaches them patience.......probably the only educational value of this toy. They love to play with the little figurines and make up stories. It adds excitement as we build up for Christmas. As with all playmobil, the details of the pieces are very realistic. The pieces are small, and my kids love that. You'd probably have to be careful with it around small kids and dogs. The background scene is nice, but probably not really durable. However, having said that, the one from last year is still fine.』

(Playmobil does it again)
『Every year's Playmobil Advent Calendar is a treat. The calendar basically has two parts, both revolving around 24 little playmobile animals, Santas, presents, and other Christmas-oriented toys: (1) a stand-up sheet to which parents attach 24 little boxes, one for each day of December until Christmas, and (2) a little tableau, where the kids can set up the toys as they open them. Each day, the kids get to open a box and place the toy on the tableau, setting up a scene that will be finished by Christmas Eve.

The 2008 calendar, "Christmas in the Forest," is my favorite yet. Santa is bringing presents (mostly food) to the animals of the forest, so the set has a bunch of mother and baby animals, together with Santa, a sled, and plenty of delicious treats. Playmobil did a great job with this year's calendar. If you don't have one yet, go get one and catch up!』

『For my 4 year old, and it is a wonderful addition to the TOy Story Collection! This is the Tim Allen voice.』

(Its an OK Buzz)
『This was my 4th Buzz, it is absolutely more durable than the ones you can buy in other stores (T) However it feels very funny. The glow in the dark paint gives the doll (Action figure)a funny tecture. The wings also come out horizontally not like in the movie, and it doesnt say much. My kids 2 and 5 did not like it.』

(Lowest quality toy)
『This toy is a piece of crap. My son had it for less than 24 hours and the arm fell off. Of course, it's the arm with the laser! As other reviewers have mentioned, the pop-up wings are sketchy at best. Also, when I tried to slide back Buzz's retractable helmet, one side of it popped out. Unfortunately, we cannot return this broken, poor quality product to the store because my son's grandparents bought it for him, and they threw away the box. I guess they are from a generation when toys lasted. KrazyGlue isn't working, so I suppose it's on to the trusty duct tape.』

He loved it at first but the build quality is not for young kids as the rear wings are hard to retract even for me and the helmet glass is very wobbly. 『I always ask my daughter in law to tell me what to buy for any grandchild's birthday....she chose this toy and once the wrapping was off, all of her 5 children (ages 10 years thru 1 year) were playing with the birthday boy !!! 『We bought this to give my daughter for her first birthday. I think it's a cute toy, and she likes it pretty well. It's definitely great for a range of ages, because the features of the toy have different difficulty levels. She would have loved the roller that turns on the music months ago, and she likes it now still. She rolls it over and over, bounces to the music, and tries to grab the faces that pop up. She also likes putting the blocks (and every other toy that will fit) in the bin and raising the blue door to see the the toys inside. If your child likes to hide stuff like she does, he or she would definitely like that part too. She has not figured out how to stack the blocks yet, so the toy is something that she can grow into. She didn't take to it right off like she did the FP Sing-Along Stage, which she still adores after having played with it for over 6 months, but I do think the Silly Town offers enough variety that she will enjoy it for a while.
On the first one that we got, the music and pop up didn't work. I called Fisher Price, and they offered to send me another one if I returned the music part of the toy. They emailed me a mailing label to use to return the piece, and we got another brand new Silly Town in a few weeks. I was pleased with the customer service, so that is a plus for Fisher Price!』

『I bought this for our 1 year old and he does sit and play with it. He actually likes the little stack and suprise blocks more then the playset itself. He plays with those all the time and loves shaking them. So if your looking for something less expensive buying the other stack and suprise toys with just the blocks your child will enjoy just as much. He does like lifting the blue shelf and finding the blocks under it. He does like the music the playset makes and when the silly things go up and down. Its kind of diffrent from what is out there so it was worth buying too me.』
