Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great entertainment....but the original music is not on these early episodes) 『Gumby is one of the outstanding forms of entertainment. I enjoyed watching this set, but could not help but notice changes in the music on early episodes. I see I am not alone on this. Here's an additional observation. Some of the synthesizer music works well for later episodes. But it is good to see that interest in the original music is helping to restore an element that created some of the charm of the series.』
(VERY DISAPPOINTING!!) 『I grew up with Gumby in the 80s. I like to consider myself a true Gumby fan, as I sport Gumby gear. But getting to the point, I got this set at a used record shop in Hollywood. I was excited at first because I finally had every episode of Gumby in one boxset on DVD. I anxiously got home and put disc 1 in only to realize in horror...THIS IS NOT THE GUMBY I REMEMBER! And why is that? Because the original soundtrack and voices are GONE! Instead theres this nasty electronic music that many times takes over the episode. I was watching the first episode with a girl and she got so irritated with the annoying music...and shes not even a Gumby fan! WHy Rhino did NOT include the original music is a mystery to me, even though I've heard that its because of legal issues with the music rights. And if there were legal issues, why didnt they simply WAIT until the problems were resolved BEFORE putting together a set only to disappoint the hardcore Gumby fans?? The only reason I am keeping this set is because it has every episode, along with the little gumby figure in the box. For all the set's faults its better then nothing. Until they come out with a set that has the ORIGINAL VOICES AND MUSIC, I'll stick to my old VHS recordings and transfers from BETA tapes. At least this way I get the really cool commercials and everything else to really take me on a trip down memory lane. For someone that loves the things he grew up with, this was a let down. For he average little kid or to anyone who knows little to nothing about Gumby, then this set will be ok. To the Gumby fans pf the past like myself, it was a let down. I hope for the day when I can sit back on a rainy afternoon or evening and watch all the Gumby episodes, in their original forms and sounds. Bottom line: If you are a hardcore fan, DON't Bother. If you are a parent looking for good, safe entertainment for children, then this is good or ok for you.』

(great) 『yeah this box set is a excellent box set to have if you love gumby i would give it 5 stars』 『Gumby, the little green plasticine boy from the toy-land world of Gumbasia, first burst onto TV screens on theHowdy Doodyshow in 1956. By 1957 the landmark children's show had launched its own series of reality-bending adventures. Gumby could walk into storybooks and through mirrors, blast off to the moon and travel back to the dinosaur age, and roll himself into any shape he chose. What kid didn't want to be Gumby?! Over 40 years later the delightful mix of innocence, imagination, and surrealism for kids is just as much fun and still feels unexpectedly inventive--the spacy electronic music alone feels years ahead of its time. Rhino's seven-disc boxed set features over 100 shorts made between 1956 and 1967, remastered from creator Art Clokey's original materials. The age of the series may show in minor scratching and speckling and occasional unsteady frames, but the picture is sharp and the color and sound surprisingly good and the whimsical little shape-shifting boy is as young as ever. The bonus seventh disc features a toy box of Gumby-related goodies, notably interviews with Clokey and original Gumby voice artist Dal McKinnon (quite the ham on camera) and a collection of Clokey's early films, including the inventiveGumbypilot film (sans soundtrack, sadly), gorgeous experimental exercises in abstract art, and two very entertaining marriages of silent slapstick comedy and stop-motion magic.--Sean Axmaker』

(Best Potato Head toy) 『Bought this for my granddaughter. She loves it. And her mom loves that all the pieces fit back inside the plastic case. I would recomend potatohead for anyone who has toddlers. The only draw back was the back door on the potatohead falls off easily, I'm allways putting it back on after we take the pieces out.』
(Classic Fun with Lots of Extras) 『My daughters (5.5&4) got this for Christmas (their younger brothers got the Mr.-version). They LOVE it, and have had such a fun time playing with her. We use Mrs. in conjunction with Mr. to teach my sons colors and body parts. Everyone gets a belly laugh when noses show up as ears, etc. We've enjoyed this as a family (and my husband has even played with them all in the name of "cleaning up"). The only way this toy could be better would to improve on the latch of the carrying case. There is so much stuff (and we do use the storage inside Mrs.&Mr.) that it is tough to get it all inside the case and the latching mechanism could use some re-engineering because it opens too easily against all of the accessories pushing out. We now store these toys on their sides to keep the accessories from falling out. I find this a small inconvenience for all the fun stuff that comes with this toy. Some of the pieces fell on the floor as it was being assembled and some of them got stepped on and bent, but they didn't break. You will need lots of patience with tiny lego pieces to get this put together. It's expensive, too. My son saved up the $100 to buy this over several months. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great Idea, Poor Execution) 『This book is truly a good idea but between the selection of models and less-than-good photography it falls short.
The female models in this book are beautiful, but unless you are looking for short and slightly thick this is not the book for you. Comic artists rarely draw women of this body type.
The one positive thing I can say is that for the money you are getting quite a bit of content.』
(Ho-Hum) 『I'll list the GOOD, then I'll list the Not-So-Good (aka. BAD).
The best two things about this book are:
1) A decent amount of images therein show the models in clothing (cloaks, some street clothing). 2) There's some decent reference of models holding weapons in "battle" poses.
That's it, really...
The *not* good (ie. BAD) things about the photograph are as follows:
1) The images are SMALL. Even the ones on the enclosed CD-ROM. Seems like the largest they get is around 700-800px on the longest side.
2) The camera's focal length causes the subjects to look distorted (ie. Huge hands close to the lens, tiny feet far away). For example: http://is.gd/21M0
3) Only 4 models total. And two of them don't take their socks off. It may seem like a small thing, but not showing the feet is kind of huge. There's a lot of important detail in the tendons/bones/toes that is completely missing from half the images in this book.
4) The lighting creates strong shadows. This could be good or bad. Good because you get some nice play of light across muscles/tendons. Bad because sometimes parts of the model cast shadows on their face/etc, and obscures expressions and such.
All in all, it's OKAY. Frankly, I wouldn't buy it again. I'll keep it now that I have it, but my recommendation is to look elsewhere for a good reference book.』
(Inconveniently Helpful) 『The book would be ideal if it was wire-bound, and you could flip to a certain photo, then lay the book flat to draw from it. Otherwise, it's hard to keep it open to one page without clips, clamps or otherwise incovenient tools. While the CD is helpful, leaving the computer on the whole time to draw from it wears your eyes out quickly.』
(Very Average Reference - Google Images is Better and FREE) 『I was very disappointed after purchasing this book. The content is average at best and the CD doesn't even contain ALL of the images found in the book which I thought was very misleading to the customer - you have to scan the images not on CD that you want - what a waste. You can do better by finding image references through Google Images and those are free. This book has some value, perhaps if one is just starting out, but hardly a top resource for anyone else. The "extremely positive" reviews here are no doubt either people who fall into this newbie category or friends of the author looking to help him out by placing positive reviews. Pass on this one or get it used / discounted somewhere. Not worth the full price that's printed on it. I was suckered.』
(Great photo Reference for artists!) 『This book is great for getting proper perspective and foreshortening etc. into your action drawings. I'll take a whole lot more of them! Perfect for graphic novel or comic illustration where you don't have models available for reference shots, or you need an inspirational shot for a particular mood. Like I said, my only complaint is that I want more! It includes a CD also so you can reference that as well, but I haven't checked to see if that has different poses or not yet. Hopefully it does. As an accurate anatomical reference for drawing humans or heroes in action, it is great! It does what it sets out to do. Top Notch.』 『The ultimate reference for comic artists, this unique book/CD set is packed with photos of men and women in basic and dramatic superhero poses uniquely tailored to the comic artists needs. Comic Artists Photo Reference:
-Delivers over 500 color images of beautiful women and muscled men in the poses comic artists need

(more than I needed to know) 『Way more technical than the anatomy I took for nursing. I can't think of why I would need to know the Greek and Latin names for bones and muscles to paint or draw them. I felt like I needed a terminology class to read the book. I was disappointed. Due to the name I thought it would be a lot more visual, very dry and laborious to read. I felt like the author(s) were flaunting their knowledge of the subject more than trying to teach artists the relevance of anatomy. I like Gray's anatomy much better』
(great material flawed layout) 『This is a classic anatomical text. The drawings in this book are scientifically accurate and elegantly interpreted. As opposed to Peck's Atlas of anatomy where the plates are quite clunky. The only qualm I have with this book is the fact that the text portion is difficult to use in conjunction with the illustrations. One needs to constantly flip back and forth from the plates to the text. One way to get around this is to photo copy the text portion and have it as a seperate pamphlet to refer to. One thing the Peck book has that would have been useful in this would have been a table of muscle origin and insertion points but since Dr.Richer is long since passed on I dont think that will happen. For the serious student of Anatomy this is required reading...and dont forget to draw all of the plates either.』
(An outstanding pairing perfect for contemporary artists.) 『Any artist working in illustration and any art library or general-interest holding strong in art instruction must have ARTISTIC ANATOMY on hand: it appears here in a new 35th Anniversary Edition, translated by Robert Beverly Hale, and is still considered one of the finest works on anatomy for artists since the Renaissance. Its original edition first appeared in 1889: the new English edition brings together the 19th century teacher Dr. Paul Richter and today's anatomy teacher Robert Beverly Hale. An outstanding pairing perfect for contemporary artists.』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Fascinating piece of science in history with one man and one book) 『This is one of my favorite books when it comes to have a story hour with children 8-12 years old (and not 4-8, even though younger children can still be fascinated by the story, the logic here and kind of information requires more maturity!). This nice biography for children just shows that all this knowledge we have is a heritage of those past great minds. This book talks about a curious and intelligent child who becomes the "librarian who measured the earth". It shows how a library can be the perfect place for curious people to gather information and think and how inter-disciplinary thinking and learning is important. There is science, maths, geography, and much more: the imagination and logic of this great man: Erastothenes.』
(Good Biography and Scienctific Discussion) 『This book contains a cursory biograph of his life and a good discussion of the measurement technique used by Eratosthenes. The story was captivating for my 6 year-old son. Through the text and wonderful pictures, the book shows the scientific method used by Eratosthenes to measure the circumference of the earth. The book is a little heavy on theory (lost on a young child). As a science teacher, I would have used this in my earth science classroom to spark discussion with students.』
(Have genius, will measure!) 『It is amazing how the union of art and words can produce a book so full of wonders. How to count them? How to describe them? Perhaps the bibliography is the place to begin. The writer Kathryn Lasky consulted nine sources for the information incorporated into the story of Eratosthenes; Kevin Hawkes, the illustrator, used sixteen.
Each double-page spread of illustration displays the artist's extensive knowledge of all things Greek and Cyrenian (Greek city on the coast of Africa in what is now Libya, where Eratosthenes grew up). Textile patterns, Greek urn art, linens, palm trees, brick work, plant life, housing, clothing styles, educational settings, musical instruments, mathematical counting methods, colors, architecture, landscaping. These are just a few items from the first few pages. The artwork is truly magnificent, yet part of the story as information. His intense and deep bright colors match the intensity of North Africa.
Lasky also pours information into the story, revealing pretty much what it was like in Eratosthenes' day. As for Eratosthenes, Lasky notes in the introduction that not much is known about his life, but much is known of the Greek world, its people, and its culture. All Lasky had to do was place an intensely curious child into the Greek setting to lay the background for the development of this genius.
As a librarian, I was most impressed with the library in Alexandria and how it was run. Being named head librarian was a real turning point for Eratosthenes, as the library put at his disposal all the information he needed for solving a long-time problem that occupied his mind: How big around is the Earth? Finally, using methods over my head, Eratosthenes determined the earth's circumference at 24,662 miles, just two hundred miles off the correct figure. Solving this problem also meant concluding his book, Geographica, the first geography book of the world.
Measuring the earth is but one aspect of Erathosthenes' life. As a student in Athens, he was nicknamed Pentathlos because he was good in so many areas of knowledge. Eventually, he became tutor to Ptolemy III's son.
This is one of those very special books for children that presents not only a story of an admirable person, but also the absolute beauty found only in the art tools of the most talented illustrator. Lasky and Hawkes have created a must-have book for libraries, both school and home!』
(One of the most treasured books in my library!) 『/
"The Librarian Who Measured the Earth" by Kathryn Lasky
This book is one of my most treasured possessions. It is a children's book, but it does contain the mathematics and geometry by which Eratosthenes measured the circumference of the earth to within 2% of the accurate measurement accepted by modern scientists. Eratosthenes did this in the 3rd Century B.C.E. when he was the head librarian in Alexandria, Egypt, ruled by the Ptolemaic kings. [The Ptolemaic Kings were the Hellenic successors to Alexander the Great's empire, after his death].
The book is in a large format, and the color illustrations are lovely, and they enhance the text. The author, Kathryn Lasky has done an excellent job of assimilating vast amounts of technical and historical data and reducing it to a form that is appreciated by those without deep grasp of geometry and mathematics. I've looked into some of the geometry which Eratosthenes drew upon to make his determinations and it can be very technical. What I mean to indicate is that if you study further, the reader will discover that the Greeks possessed a very complex Geometry, even more advanced than what is evident in this measurement.
It may be that some learned people were well acquainted with the proof of Eratosthenes and that this knowledge was possessed by Christopher Columubs, even as he was pleading with monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella of Spain, during the very period when their courtiers were developing "Mad Queen Chess" which is the game we play today.
One of the fun things to do, particularly to enhance the learning experience, is to copy the data from this book and enlarge upon it. That Eratosthenes was able to do this fascinates me to no end.

(great illustrations but munged math) 『My nine year old can see that in order for the sun to shine straight down every hole on earth, the earth would have to curve around the outside of the sun. Ms. Lasky "simplifies" the math to the point that it is unintelligible. It might take a page or two more, but if you're going to attempt to explain the mathematics behind the measurement, do it right or not at all.』 『A colorfully illustrated biography of the Greek philosopher and scientist Eratosthenes follows his life as he becomes Alexandria's chief librarian, writes the first geography book, and accurately measures the globe's circumference.』

The visor is shiny (I could see myself in the visor), it includes a white trim, three weapons: the Needler, the Sniper, and the Assault bomb. Since I bought the steel spartan and blue spartan with this, I could do a game of Assault that is in Halo Multiplayer (also is in Halo 2). In Assault you are supposed to Capure a flag, except each side switches from defending to attacking. For example: in "Zanzibar" the Attacker gets one Warthog and two ghosts on the beach. There are three ways to enter the defenders base, I'm sure you'd notice them. The defender has no vehicles, however, they get a rocket launcher and a couple more weapons. There was this movie recorded and it included the Zanzibar map. It is on www.halofiles.com, you should search the videos for that movie (It is big, about 122 mb). 18 minutes of combat from Halo 2, and the figures remind me of that battle.
