Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Flinging paint) 『I have books by Charles Reid and was delighted to have the DVD to see how he actually paints. He has a very loose style that is deceptivally easy. This shows him painting and flinging paint at the support as he paints. Many water colorists are very uptight and rigid but not Mr. Reid. He abounds in lost edges, splatters, juicy paints and he does not paint inside the lines. If you have a tight way of painting with lots of hard edges, then this is the book to help you escape into a different style that is more relaxed.』
(Without a doubt, the best art DVD) 『I have been purchasing art books, videos, and DVD's for a long time and without a doubt, this is the best DVD for those who want to learn how a great painter paints. I am primarily an oil landscape painter but I have found this particular DVD of Reid painting the figure in watercolor translates well for providing tips for people who use any painting medium, style, or subject matter. Charles Reid is a true American master and it is fascinating to be able to view him working and be able to watch how he does what he does. The movie paints a compassionate portrait of small-town life in the U.S., and Jeremy's travels lead him to cross paths with teams comprised of New Zealanders, Native Americans, Canadians, and a somewhat obnoxious (but not all bad) junk-mail king from Tampa Bay. He also discovers his own familial connection to the Midwest.
Everyone in the film shares a passion for the impressively difficult game of fast-pitch softball - and if you've ever wondered, it really is harder to hit in this game than in baseball. Fastpitch by all accounts is a dying sport. The film captures Jeremy's 1996 season, and one is left wondering what's happened since. Nonetheless, it's a wonderful, warm film that everyone will enjoy, whether or not they're a sports fan.』
(This is a really cool movie!) 『I truly liked the story told by the filmmaker.
Unlike a lot of sappy Hollywood sports movies or network TV programs, this movie goes into the depth of real human characters, who must face both victory and defeat, integrity and compromise.
The sport itself is quite interesting, and I would not have known about it except for this film.』
(Interesting and profound) 『I agree with the excerpted review comments from the New York Times,"Intelligent, insightful, touching,"which are printed on the cover of the VHS box.
Filmmaker Jeremy Spear respects the viewer enough to include many complexities of his subject matter. For example, the gross and tacky elements in the character of Peter Porcelli, the financier of the sport's highest paid team, are obvious. Yet beyond Porcelli's inflated self opinion, Spear also shows that the man has admirable qualities: that he cares for his family, yearns for camaraderie with his players, and is devoted to revitalizing and promoting the game. Several other characters also are shown to be multifaceted, which is refreshing to see.
Beyond the subject matter of sport, some interesting themes surface in the film, such as changing demographics within the United States. The economic decline of Midwestern farming communities mirrors the decline in popularity of the game in places such as Ashland, Ohio, from where much of the documentary footage is taken. As legendary Eddie Feigner recalls, just one generation ago, every small town in the US had a fastpitch softball team. Now, most Americans have never even seen a game of men's amateur fastpitch. This fact can be linked to the general decline of local community, as American people grow up watching professional baseball on national television, rather than experiencing a comparable game live in the fields of their own hometowns. Also, the sudden emergence of the Smokers (a team assembled and financed by a junk mail tycoon from the city of Tampa Bay) is no surprise, for American life has become increasingly dominated by corporate businesses.
Most of the heartwarming aspects of this film originate from the ways in which people from disparate backgrounds can play with and compete against each other, with understanding and respect. Through the vehicle of fastpitch softball, characters from different nations and ethnicities come together. Such universally human themes in this movie make it worthwhile, even to viewers who have little interest in sports.』
『Not for baseball fans only, Jeremy Spear's heartwarming documentary will be a hit for anyone who yearns to pursue his own field of dreams. Spear, a New York artist and former college ballplayer, always dreamed of being a professional baseball player. At the age of 35, he began to crave "the thrill of competition." He gave up gallery openings for Opening Day as a shortstop for the New Jersey Gators, a "fastpitch" softball team. If you are not familiar with fastpitch, that is the point of this valentine to a sport "on the verge of extinction." Fastpitch once ruled the neighborhood diamonds of small-town America. But as one seasoned spectator notes, "The game is going downhill." Teams are disappearing "one by one, town by town." Fastpitch, Spear observes, "has a purity hard to find in sports today." But that purity is perhaps being threatened by one Peter J. Forcelli Jr., a junk-mail maven and owner of the Tampa Bay Smokers. While the average team operates on a budget of $30,000, Forcelli lavished $500,000 on his team. But the heart of the game beats on in people like Nick McCurry, who manages Ashland Abbott Labs (the Midwest team Spears eventually joins) and such local heroes as Maori slugger Shane Hunuhunu (whose girlfriend is forced to tack a note on his door warning adoring neighborhood girls to "back off") and Native American pitcher Darren Zack.Fastpitchdoes something wonderful. It makes you want to rush out to a park to watch a game. Or better yet, play in one.--Donald Liebenson』 『When memories of his collegiate baseball stint loom larger than a promising art career filmmaker jeremy spear decides to step up to the plate. (review) 『This is a great product my Girlfriend is obsesed with twilight and she loved it, no complaints. other than this is in fact not a toy as the review asked me how good this toy was? slightly confused by that, but I had gotten the product on time and not damaged.』
(Poor Quality Big Disappointment) 『I purchased this product for my granddaugher, I was not aware it was a toy, I was thinking costume jewelry and when we received the product the necklace had the silver plating color wore off the ring that held the key on the necklace and now even through has never been wore in water and the entire necklace is turning. When we received the bracelet the heart would not lock and it kept coming undone and she finally worked and worked over a hour to get the latch to catch and now it does latch however for over $40.00 you would think it would be better quality. When I pay over $40.00 for a product you would think it would last longer than receiving it and now after several weeks it looks horrible. The company did offer me to mail back and they would send me a new one, my granddaughter did not want to be without it any longer so I did not return. However, I would not want someone to think they were getting costume jewelry and for $40.00 you are getting a cheap toy jewelry. This product reminds me of something the Dollar Tree, which is a store that everything is a $1.00 in the store, would carry. For a dollar, it is worth that not $40.00, please don't waste your money.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (GREAT scooter, but SHOCKED by the price!!!) 『We bought this scooter when my son turned 3, and it has since been handed down to my daughter. After 3.5 years of hard use, it's still working great, although the foam on the handle bars is starting to come off. It is a terrific starter scooter, very easy to balance on, rolls well, and once you get the hang of it, steers pretty easily. My 3-year-old daughter makes 90 degree turns with ease (I'm not sure how, since I've never ridden it, but they both somehow figured it out).
I am, however, shocked by the price tag! When I bought this on Amazon in 2006, I don't think I paid more than $35. It's small - perfect for a child of 3 feet, but way too small for my 4-foot tall son, so it's really only useful for a couple of years. (Plus, most of my 6-year-old's friends have long since mastered the 2 wheel razor scooters.) I would not want to pay that much for a toy with a fairly limited useful life.』
(Mirco Scooter) 『Our son is 3 yrs old and this was only his third or fourth time on a scooter and he caught on very quickly!! A couple of trips around our block and now he is going so much faster (a little scary), figured out how to turn it and has crashed it into a few things with no injuries. It is very durable and perfect for a first time scooter of a child of this age!』
(My son loves!!!) 『Highly recommend this scooter. We bought it for our son when he turned 3 years old. At the time I was concerned he would be too big for it at 38 lbs, even now at 41 lbs it still works well for him, and he loves it!! It was amazing how quickly he mastered it. He is almost 4 now, and although he can ride a bike without training wheels he still loves riding his scooter. We live in Moscow but bought in the US, and have traveled with it everywhere, Russia, France, back and forth to the US, etc. Highly recommend!!!!』
(Way-cool scooter) 『This scooter makes other scooters look cheap and clunky. We got this for our 3 year-old on his 3rd birthday and it is amazing how quickly he learned how to ride this thing! It is unlike any scooter I have seen. It is great for beginner riders because it allows a more natural movement by the rider. Waching him ride this is a joy. People strolling by gaze in amazement as he zips effortlessly down the sidewalk!
Our son is more confident now that he easily grasped the operation of this way-cool scooter. Yep, its more expensive, but it was totally worth it.

(Best Scooter for Toddlers) 『We got this scooter for my son's 2nd birthday and it took him about a week and a half of riding to get good enough to go around the block. He loves this scooter! It is very durable and the fact that there are 2 wheels in front and one in the back makes it easier for him to ride. I also like it because he steers by shifting his weight. He was so comfortable on it, he started doing tricks! He would ride around and lift one leg in the air. Now that he's 3 he's moved on to riding with his feet side by side like skateboarders do.』 『Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Gold Seal Award and Platinum Award 2009 winner. The Mini scooter is the quality scooter for young children. Its unique 'lean-and-steer' design allows children to use their body weight to control the steering, giving kids the feeling of 'surfing' the sidewalk, as they curve from right to left, almost like a skateboard, adding an element of fun and control that young children love. The Mini scooter is designed with 3 wheels for greater stability and control. The Italian-made wheels, of highest quality PU create a wonderfully smooth glide -- and a quiet ride (a joy for parents and children alike!).
The kickboard is low-to-the-ground and large enough for both feet, making it easy for young children to hop on and off and to switch from pushing, to just enjoying the ride. The 'spoon' brake at the back adds additional control, and kids like it because its just like the 'big kid' scooters.
For parents, the Mini scooter's light weight (only 3.3lbs), means it's easy to pick up and carry when need be.
The Mini scooter makes scooting fun for young children at the same time as helping to develop their balance, co-ordination and motor skills. The Mini scooter is designed with a weight recommendation of 60lbs. Please note that the scooter displays a weight limit of 20kg (44 lbs). The reason for the discrepancy is that European standards dictate that weights are approved and displayed only in increments of 10 kg (22lbs), so the next available weight category of 30 kg, or 66 lbs, would have put the displayed recommended weight limit OVER its actual recommendation of 60 lbs. And, the best just got even better - the original Mini scooter has been improved! The design team at Micro-Mobility in Switzerland, are always working to achieve ever-higher standards of excellence. They have recently added a reinforced brake, stronger U-bar, and a new locking pin for easy handlebar removal.』

I was concerned that it was too complicated and too fragile but he had his little heart set on getting Optimus Prime and the only other model costs twice as much. Well both concerns turned out unfounded. After a little bit of initial help, Jack was soon converting it from robot to truck and back without any help - it really wasn't that complicated but kudos on the overall sophistication of the toy for the price. In terms of durability, well parts do tend to fall off - particularly the smoke stacks, the feet and these red flaps on the arms. But fortunately they snap right back on and seem none the worse. It seems that the toy was designed to give on pre set snap joints rather than breaking - kudos again for the design folks. I don't want to overstate the quality - I am sure it will break in time, almost all toys do, but it survived the first week with a whole lot of play and my son is very happy spending a lot of time with opimus prime.』
(Great Service) 『We got the toy in mich sooner then we thought. My son was and still is very happy with it.
Thank You』
(Cheap) 『This is a terrible toy, the parts kept falling off and wouldn't stay on and it was very difficult for him to turn the toy into the truck and into Optimus Prime. It was a waste of money.』
(Not as durable as the other figures) 『This is the last of several Transformers that my son has received for his birthday this year and by far my least favorite. After helping him with Starscream, Sidewinder, Demolisher, and Bumblebee I expected the same quality and engineering that was put into the other models. This is not the case with this model of Optimus Prime. I am disappointed with the cheapness of the plastic, the tolerance of the assembly, and the general letdown of getting a cheap toy when I expected a bit more. The other models feel sturdy in your hand and have a heavier gauge of plastic and also have more connection points that hold the models together once transformed. This model does have some cool features but overall is just not as good as the others. I would recommend the more expensive model for the older kids as it can handle more abuse and the gravity assist line for the younger kids as they transforms by themselves.』
(A good Voyager class toy.) 『Overall, this isn't a bad Voyager class toy. It transforms well and looks decent in both modes. However, I do have a few complaints. In both modes the colors are a little dull. The reds and blues aren't that bright. All of the parts that are supposed to be a metallic color (grill, exhaust pipes, gas tank) are beige. He looks good in robot mode. Although, the way he transforms leaves a big "hump" on his back. It's not that bad looking straight at him, but it's more noticable viewing him from the side/back. If you want a more "movie accurate" version I would get the Leader Class figure. The Voyager Class Optimus Prime is a good figure, but not a great one.』 『From the moment OPTIMUS PRIME took Earth as a new home for himself and his people, he was rededicated to its protection. Since that day, he has focused all of his considerable will and power on rooting out the last few DECEPTICONS and destroying them. To that end, he has upgraded and refined his sensor suite, and trained with IRONHIDE in tracking the evil robots. Prepare to do battle AUTOBOT style! I won't say much about the poem itself since most people should know how great it is, and there is very little I could add to the plethora of commentary and reviews of this masterpiece. I am really rating the super high quality edition. Beautiful dust jacket hard cover book, with bold red inner cover page with red ribbon bookmark. The pages are high qualitiy, with classic font for each book. There is also the great classic art work. I highly recommend this edition.』
(For those who love their bookshelf) 『This is a gorgeous book. This is not an edition of PL to drag to class and write essays out of. Rather, it is a work of craftsmanship targeting bookworms and bibliophiles alike to be enjoyed in a recliner with just enough light - but not too much - and affectionately pointed to on the shelf.
Main criticisms of this edition would be the lack of notes and Phillip Pullman's Satan-favoring commentary.
As for #1, I found the lack of notes to be very LIBERATING, rather than limiting. I constantly find myself, while reading complex works such as PL, thumbing to the back of a Penguin Classics volume for the end-notes whilst sitting in front of Wikipedia in order to fully absorb every mythological or otherwise obscure reference.
Reading this poem without any intense academic commitment of the aforementioned sort forced me to read it for the language and nothing else - a worthwhile endeavor.
As for #2, I found Pullman's commentary to be excellent. I can sympathize with the situation of one finding his comments incorrect and having the edition somewhat poisoned as a result. However, Pullman constantly reminds us - especially in a poignant passage at the end - that his is only one way of viewing the work, among a multitude.
His comments before each book are limited to one concise paragraph and are generally worthwhile and occasionally illuminating. Whether or not one feels Pullman's view of Satan is worthwhile, it is hard to escape his assertion that Milton could have disposed of such a giant character better, and one finds themselves pondering Pullman's views as they proceed through the work.
The last thing I would say about Pullman's role is that he urges us to read the poem out loud, as he feels it was meant to be experienced. I took his advice half-heartedly, mumbling it to myself in order to, as Pullman implies, 'feel' the poem. I would say it was effort well spent.
Oh, also, this book looks Damn good.』
(Epic and daring, the God of Genesis is revealed) 『This magnificent book was recommended to me by a dear friend through another review here on Amazon.com. For that recommendation I am grateful due to the pleasure that I have received from it. I enjoyed the audio book rather than the printed version, and as one who listens to hundreds of audio books, I can say that this production through the talent of Anton Lesser, produces dramatic results.
The book, this epic poem, is so beautifully written that it would be a pleasure to read, or listen to, even if the actual content was in some way lacking. But, the content is anything but lacking. For me, Milton points out that God is vengeful, jealous, and ego-driven, almost as though he were human. What father would pronounce the death sentence on his child for eating fruit from a tree (albeit "forbidden fruit")? What father would banish their child from Eden for that same offense? None that I know. Milton shows the God of the Genesis to be harsh and cruel while staying true to scripture.
If you are looking for a book that is beautiful to read, and thought-provoking to ponder, then look no further.
Best wishes, Kevin 』
(the master) 『Milton is the gold standard. Has anything better been written since? I love contemporary poetry, don't get me wrong, but when I get tired of it I go back to Wordsworth and Milton to remind myself of how high the mountaintop is. This is also a beautiful edition, an excellent addition to anyone's library.』
(A cosmic battle) 『I used the Norton critical edition edited by Scott Elledge
We will discover in these pages a profound rendering of the cosmic battle between good and evil, man's fall through disobedience to God, and Satan's perversion on mankind.
Each line serves a purpose, so in order to inhale this sublime poem to its fullest it will be necessary to slow down. Immensely valuable to understanding this difficult poem is the editor's explanatory summery going into each of the twelve books (chapters) and the numerous footnotes.
The second half of the book contains a biography, an historical evolution, other writings, and a critical analysis of Milton by multiple revered authors with a wide degree of beliefs.
Wish you well Scott』 『Publisher:
A retelling of the biblical story of mankinds fall from grace, Miltons epic opens shortly afterthe dramatic expulsion of Satan and his army of angels from Heaven. What follows is a cosmic battle between good and evil that ranges across vast, splendid tracts of time and space, from the wild abyss of Chaos and the fiery lake of Hell to the Gate of Heaven and Gods newly created paradise, the Garden of Eden. Controversy still swirls around Miltons magnificent and sympathetic characterization of Satan, a portrait so compelling that many critics have maintained that he is the true hero of the story.』

This is the story of the Wright Brothers, from their early childhood through the time of their invention of the "flying machine." It does stress the influence their parents, particularly their mother, had upon them. It is simply written and very direct. The story is quite easy to follow and gives the young reader a very good insight to the minds and work ethic these brothers had. It is an excellent introduction to the subject of flight.
