『Jonathan has written and developed excellent content in this manual that was orgininally created for LE agencies. The book will utilize all your grey matter and is a very intensive read. The methods and processes described in the manual work quite well and is an excellent guide for his workshops.

(Excellent process for acquiring DD dump of iPhone)

『This book is an excellent documentation of the processes required to bypass the passcode of a locked iPhone and for hashing and creating a DD image of the two data partitions found on the iPhone. Works for both 1.X and 2.X iphones. I also recommend taking the course, well worth the money and provides an excellent hands on for the processes found in the book. Jonathan is a wealth of knowledge and an excellent instructor.』

(Well-written and informative, but over-priced)

『I wish the author had just put the info on a free website. The book is just a document, a pamphlet as another reviewer mentioned. I feel a bit ripped-off. In fact, in one place the author actually says "before proceeding, ensure that the firmware ... falls within the range of versions supported by this document." He is referring to the book but calling it a document. I think he intended it to be just a document and O'Reilly convinced him to make it a book so O'Reilly could make some money.

As far as technical material, it's all good and well-written. There are a few cases where it appears the O'Reilly editor might have cluelessly changed a sentence, but those cases are rare compared to some professionally-edited books. There are some typos, even in the author's bio! But few compared to many books. The index was rushed, I'm guessing. It didn't include the items I wanted to find.

The only other caveat I can think of is that if you are considering forensically analyzing your iPhone just for fun, be prepared for quite a bit of work and possible headaches. With firmware 2.x, there are numerous, reasonably complex steps that must be followed. You will need lots of time and patience and little aversion to risk. Note that you are jail-breaking your phone so that you can install utilities in the system partition, which voids the warranty from what I understand. Also, you could brick your iPhone, though in theory you could restore it if there are problems.

All in all, great info for forensics examiners in law-enforcement and corporations. I give it three stars instead of five because of the high price for a pamphlet.』

『I recently convinced my wife to make the transition from PC to mac for her business. I finally persuaded her after investigating the abilities of Mobile Me to support basic small business functions. Those abilities are implied in the title of this book. Turns out Mobile Me does not do what she needs it to do. After speaking to Mobile Me support staff about these deficiencies their reply was that Mobile Me is a personal solution and that Apple does not advertise Mobile Me for small business'. They said to read the small print. It's stated in the disclaimer that Mobile Me is not designed as a business tool. So which IS it?. We were sold Mobile Me at the Apple Store as a small business product. This book title and Apple's marketing of this product is misleading! I've been an Apple user myself for years and the experience really changed my view of the company.』

『This is perfect for what I needed it for and I haven't had any problems with it. We use it in the car to hook the iPod to the stereo. It's great! It connects better than the one that came with my iPod, which jiggles and loses its connection frequently. This one doesn't do that at all.』

『Length of cable is ok - about 2' - and I usually have my device nearby to my laptop when I am downloading music. Retracts and expands ok -- sometimes needs coaxing to fully retract on either side. I discovered that although the cable allows my next gen nano to charge, it does not allow it to sync -- so I cannot download my recent purchases. You get what you pay for I guess.』

The Kensington battery pack works fine. The charge indicator is easy to read, the connectors are easy to access and pretty nearly idiot-proof. The self-discharge rate is quite low - weeks to bleed off even one tick from a fully charged pack. The form factor makes it easy to carry in your pocket or briefcase. It should work with any device that is intended to be powered off a USB port.』

『This is a very nice little accessory. I would go so far to say that is almost an essential for trips. Plug it into your iPhone 3GS and it will charge it all the way back to 100%. At least that is my experience. Sometimes it is just not possible to plug in a charger, and when that is the case this little accessory is the answer. It gives you an extra full charge for your iPhone.

A couple of nits deprive this excellent accessory of the fifth star. Firstly, it does not fit real snappily onto the iPhone. It fits OK, but you want to be careful not to bend it. Secondly, they should have designed it so that the plastic cap that protects the connector to the iPhone snaps onto the opposite end of the battery extender when in use. Not a big deal, but I am surprised that Kensington did not think of this. Kensington makes good products.

Overall a very good product.

『The Kenington Mini performs very well in its charging function. It's got enough capacity to charge your iPhone from completely depleted to about 90% charge before it is drained. Its small size makes it easy to carry. The only shortcoming is that when it's plugged into the phone, it feels sort of loose and it can be easily shifted causing it to disconnect. During periods of charging the phone with it while using the phone, I've resorted to jury rigging it to the phone with a rubber band. Not very high tech, but it does keep the Kenington in place.』
