Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not worth the higher price) 『I decided to buy this transmitter when my other one, a generic and very cheap trans., broke. The other trans. worked most of the time, but when I drove into Dallas or if the ionosphere was messing with the stations, I would get a lot of static. So I decided to go with a higher quality trans. that would last longer and work better. This trans. actually didn't work nearly as well as the cheap one! When I say cheap, I mean I got it for 5 dolls. on amazon, new! In order to hear the station I would have to turn up my cars volume almost all the way up, and even then there was always some static in the back ground. Every now and again it would work fine, at high volumes, but not very often. Don't waste your money on this one, there are better ones you can get for less money.』 『This Universal Scosche FMDT1 shifter Style FM transmitter is a perfect accessory for any gadget lover and owner. It presents some key topics that most books shy away from, and it presents them clearly. Most notably, it has a good example of an app with a table within a nav bar within a tab bar. This is a very common app pattern and is presented here clearly and with good explanation. I don't think any other book does this quite as well.』
(Good Book, Great Visualization, Lack Information) 『I would like to say that this book is great. It's definitely a great book for beginners. The book teaches how to do the basic stuff such as navigation controllers, table views and simple stuff such as buttons, images, view controllers, etc. However, I noticed this book seemed to be rushed...for example, the author teaches how to make the navigation bar disappear using the viewWillAppear method but then doesn't tell you how to get it back and where to place code (PAGE 178). I found out that you must incorporate setNavigatioBarHidden:NO animated:YES to view didLoad method in the second view controller just to get the Navigation Bar back. It was frustrating to search through the net and then figure it out on your own.
I recommend this book for absolute beginners, who would like to tinker but not for production. Although the author has written a decent book, I hope that the author realizes that improvements are needed such as:
1) Completing methods when they are introduced. 2) Help the reader understand why they are doing some things introduced. 3) Check the book for logical reasoning in the reader's perspective, such as the aformentioned navigationbar. 4) If a publishing company rushes the author to print an unfinished book, then the author needs to find a new publisher.』
(Easy to Follow and Understand) 『As someone with Java and C experience, I find that the author did a good job relating Java and C to Objective-C. I enjoyed that the author provided step by step, with pictures, on how to create an application for the iPhone, and how different components work together. It is the best book to show how to implement Pickers (and I have three other books that I am using to learn how to develop for the iPhone). Thanks to the author, I was able to create a working timer picker, and at the same time understand what I was doing. Mr. DDD is expecting a literary writing, but for technical people like us, we get the concepts that the author is trying to convey.』
(A good book for beginner and advanced user, worth buying) 『It's an attractive book with a lot of full graphics. For a new developers, this book provides all source codes for each project. For advanced users , there are probably enough tips, tricks,
Thanks,
Richard』
(Not recommended) 『I feel quite sorry for anyone using this as their main, or even worse, sole, resource from which to learn iPhone development. There many small niggles with the book and some material errors.
Annoyances:
- the code presentation, whilst using monospaced font, uses short indentation (usually two spaces) and makes almost no use of whitespace lines to separate methods, declarations etc. Conversely, methods are written with extra inline spaces in places where there usually is none. - there is an underlying assumption that the reader will be familiar with Java, with many references such as "Java does x", or "Java doesn't do y" etc. - inconsistent use of the terms 'function' and 'method' which should really be kept quite separate at this level. [- there is no @package compiler directive in Obj-C (p47). Furthermore, even bringing in @private, @public, and @protected at the start of the book needlessly complicates things.] [NOTE: this was an error on my part, and I apologize for that. There is indeed an @package directive for 64-bit implementations. This is covered in some Apple docs, but not in others (see discussion thread below for further comments)]. - the chapter on C, whilst it would make a useful appendix if it was written well, is billed as a refresher. Some, perhaps many, people coming to iPhone programming may have some Java experience, but it's a fair bet that many do not have C experience and really need a different treatment than a C 'refresher'. - needless disquisition on C pointers etc. It would be fair to discuss the asterisk syntax in Obj-C and mention that it relates to C pointers, but the new programmer is probably well served to treat classes and objects in Cocoa/Obj-C at their face vaue as OO constructs and not bother digging too deeply into their C antecedents until they're well advanced in their studies. - there is a tendency to explain points - sometimes quite intricate points - using the same kind of language and technical wording as is made in the original point. - there is no need to go into the definition of Obj-C categories in the early part of the book - it's too much, too soon. The same point applies somewhat to discussion of dynamic binding, dynamic typing, method overloading, method overriding, inheritance (yes, they can be covered but the approach taken is really quite blunt and seems to assume a lot of background knowledge). - wordy, and ultimately very confusing, discussion of why using @property/@sythesize (more generally, accessors/mutators) helps with memory management. The underlying point is valid but the choice of when and how to tackle it seems quite misguided.
In marked contrast to three other books* in the beginner category I feel this author fails to empathize with his target audience or really understand what their aims are and where their conceptual problems might lie. There is an awkwardness and distance in the treatment of the subject and a tendency to 'throw the kitchen sink' at the reader that I think could really cause some problems down the road.
The really annoying stuff:
- comments about MM on p9: "You can use something called autorelease, which makes memory management a little easier, but even autorelease is not recommended". Autorelease isn't about making memory management easier, per se, but even then the author goes on to use it in contrived situations, despite warning against this (see below).
- using -retainCount method (p55) when it is widely understood to be of no use to the app programmer and cautioned against in the apple documentation (the author does put a note stating "there is no reason to call retainCount" but it is plainly misleading to state "I use retainCount to illustrate Objective-C memory management" - it's one of the worst ways to do this).
- setting up your own autorelease pool to bypass the supposed problems with memory management (p59). To get over the "tiresome and error-prone" manual managing of reference counts the author creates an autorelease pool, puts an object into it, and then releases the pool. All this instead of simply releasing the object itself after he has used it.
- in the protocols discussion (p74): "Remember, in Objective-C, you send a message and if nobody can handle the message, nothing happens." This is misleading, particularly if taken out of context. It's true that certain methods can be made optional in protocols (unlike, as we're told, with Java interfaces) so not implementing the optional methods will cause no harm. In general Obj-C terms, though, sending a message that can't be handled or forwarded will lead to a runtime crash.
There are enough half truths, misconceptions, inconsistencies and outright errors of fact in this book to really sow the seeds of confusion and doubt amongst its readership. I have returned my copy of the book to Amazon for a refund as I could not recommend it for any courses I teach.
*strongly recommend instead (any two of the three would give a good grounding with an alternate viewpoint):

spend you money somewhere else, this book is not worth the cost of printing.』
(I got this book for the webkit section, but...) 『I'm the type of person who loves to see full source examples instead of just being fed the concepts. Unfortunately this book gives a snippet here and a snippet there and does not build up an example you can latch onto to say "yes I got that concept down in practice." This book could be so much more....』
(Good for web apps, or experienced Objective-C programmers) 『This is the only book I know of that covers how to create web apps (ie. web sites that are specially designed to work on the iPhone and look similar to an actual application, but are not actually applications you install on the phone). It provides a good jumping off point and reference on how to do that. In fact, half of the book is dedicated to it, so if that's what you're looking to do, this is the book for you.
However, if you want to write iPhone applications that you actually install on the phone and could sell through the AppStore, I'd suggest you find a different book unless you are a very experienced Objective-C programmer. I've programmed for 20+ years, in a variety of languages, including for mobile devices, but never in Objective-C or for the iPhone. After reading a review of this book on Slashdot, I thought this would be a great way to learn how to code for the iPhone. I couldn't have been more wrong. The book does give you all the basics, including a short intro to Xcode and interface builder, but this half of the book seems disorganized, rambling, and doesn't provide enough detail for a seasoned, but new to the platform, programmer to pick up what they'd need to be able to really develop an actual app. The examples are extremely rudimentary, and right when I thought I was past the elementary ones and getting into the "real guts" of iPhone programming, the book starts giving overviews of the other frameworks, leaving me with just enough knowledge to write a few variations of "hello world" type apps, but not enough to really understand how to get things wired up properly.
If you're new to Objective-C programming and want to develop apps for the iPhone, I'd recommend Programming in Objective-C 2.0 (2nd Edition) (which actually has a small section about iPhone programming, but this is more to learn Obj-C and as a reference), and Beginning iPhone Development: Exploring the iPhone SDK (a new edition of the book comes out revised and updated for the 3.0 SDK on July 20th, 2009)』
(great way to start running with iphone app development) 『I think this book is great. iPhone development is very complex, and the authors of this book make it accessible by giving diving into enough detail to make you productive quickly while gently introducing the more complicated concepts in later chapters.
Like other reviewers, I'm more interested in SDK development than web. However, chapters 10-19 are devoted solely to that purpose, and you miss nothing by starting directly on chapter 10, and always having the web development portion there should you ever need it. This really is two books in one.』
(A very basic introductory book to iphone programming.) 『My major complain is that it either left out the important stuff or only roughly addressed them. For example, NSException handling is not even mentioned in the book.』 『

The iPhone explodes old ideas of a cell phone. Its native SDK offers a remarkable range of features including easy-to-build graphical objects, a unique navigation system, and a built-in database, all on a location-knowledgeable device. Websites and web apps can now behave like native iPhone apps, with great network integration.
iPhone in Action is an in-depth introduction to both native and web programming for the iPhone. You'll learn how to turn your web pages into compelling iPhone web apps using WebKit, iUI, and Canvas. The authors also take you step by step into more complex Objective-C programming. They help you master the iPhone SDK including its UI and features like accelerometers, GPS, the Address Book, SQLite, and many more. Using Apple's standard tools like Dashcode, Xcode, and Interface Builder, you'll learn how to best use both approaches: iPhone web and SDK programming. This book is intended as an introduction to its topics. Proficiency with C, Cocoa, or Objective-C is helpful but not required.

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Everything is great EXCEPT forget getting text messages!) 『I bought this clock and loved it in almost every way. It was a little too big but I could get over that. Setting the alarm is really great&easy&there are several settings for brighness, a monday-friday alarm setting, dual alarm setting, and I could put my iphone on the charger without fussing with the dock, HOWEVER this clock does not let you recieve text messages while your iphone is charging so I returned it. This is highly annoying and disappointing that Phillips does that with this model alarm clock. There is another model alarm clock also made by phillips that does not have the annoying text probelem, however that model has a very strange way of deactivating the alarm when you set it to the radio alarm setting. All in all after buying lots of iphone alarm clocks and trying them at home I'm quite disappointed. They all seem to be a) too big and clunky b)80% of them wont let you hear your text messages c) make it hard to simply put your phone on the charger d) Way too expensive !! I dont neccessarily need the alarm clock to have the latest in stereo sound. For all the people considering an ihome alarm clock, I havent found an ihome alarm clock yet that will allow you to hear text messages so if this is important to you watch out for that too.』
(Perfect for Me) 『I bought this primarily to charge my iPhone at night, and as a new alarm clock. I love how the alarm starts of very quiet (I almost can't even hear it), and very gradually gets louder. So much nicer to wake to instead of the loud obnoxious old thing I'd been using for 25 years. The iphone fits nicely, even with a slim case on it. The buttons to control the iphone can be a bit slow to react, but not an issue for me. Also love the sleep timer so that I can listen to music as I go to sleep and it turns off automatically. You can even set the snooze interval.』
(Best iPhone Alarm Clock there is ... by a mile) 『Let me start by saying that I have used most brands of iPhone alarm clock docking stations - including Luna, iHome, Sony, and Logitech. All of these suffered design flaws that were deal breakers for me (they may have had features that the Philips does not have -- but I didn't really need). Flaws included -- just not working as an alarm clock (logitech), being HUGE (iHome), being cheap/ugly looking (sony), and not offering good physical support of the phone (Sony, iHome, Luna). The Philips is a great clean looking unit - that your phone sits flush with -- it offers support in the back of the phone so if you accidentally hit your phone while it is on the dock you dont have to worry about damaging the connector. The Orange light is nice (and adjustable) - the day and date are displayed, there are separate alarms (customizable to weekdays, weekends or all days). Now is it the best speaker system for your phone ?-- Not by a mile (there is no remote, the sound is only okay) -- but for a bedside alarm clock there is nothing on the market that compares to this. If that is what you need - buy this!!!』
(it is iphone 3gs compatible) 『I found this to be a worth while product. I havent had any problems with it out of the box. The Philips description is very accurate. Somethings not mentioned are: it is 3gs compatible, it will charge new iphones. Only thing it says on mine is IPOD instead of IPHONE - this is mentioned in manual. If you have a problem with the buttons (play, skip), just reset your iphone. Draw back is it does tend to fall forward, a couple of rubber feet under speakers in front will fix that. It takes a little getting used to, but that is common with most electronics. I havent unplugged mine but the other reviewer states it has a capacitor which makes sense since it doesnt have battery back up. Overall I am very happy with it, the sound is very good for a clock radio and the look is great since it matches the iphone.』
(Mixed bag... mostly good.) 『I purchased this item at Target on an impulse. I'm reasonably pleased and will keep it.
Pros:
- The sound really is surprisingly good, and gets fairly loud without distortion. This, combined with the low severity of the Cons, is why I'm keeping it.
- The display is a nice color and brightness. The middle of three settings works day or night.
- Overall it looks nice and is a little more understated than it looks in the product photos.
- While it doesn't have a backup battery, it apparently has some kind of capacitor instead. I.e., it will keep time during a power outage, even without a backup battery. How long is anyone's guess, and it's not mentioned in the manual, but I unplugged mine for 15 minutes to position it where I wanted it and it kept the time. That's a good thing.
Cons:
- The buttons are ridiculous. You simply must memorize where they all are, and you can't tell them apart by feel either. The whole top and left are covered in a bar of buttons (crazy because there are really only three on top and four on the left side), making it somewhat hard to dock the iPhone. Everywhere you want to touch to stabilize the clock is actually a button. Fortunately the unit weighs just enough that you can usually just push down on the phone, as long as you line it up carefully.
- The build quality of the face is poor. The face is a plastic sheet that's glued on, and it's peeling up from the edges. It's not noticeable unless I look carefully, but it's not really reasonable on an $80+ clock-radio.
- If you have the phone plugged in, and turn on the power (i.e., the speakers, as the clock is always on), it starts playing music on the phone's iPod app. If the power is on, and you plug in the phone, it starts playing music on the phone. There's no way to plug the phone in and turn the speakers on without the phone starting to play iPod songs. This isn't a huge deal, but I plug my phone in and go to sleep to a noise generator app (Ambience) and it's annoying to have to plug in, wait about a second for it to kick on the iPod tunes, and then hit the stop button on the radio. On the flip side, after I go through that nightly button-pushing routine, it sounds very good and fills the bedroom better and with more clarity and less plasticky boominess than the Sharper Image noise machine I used to use (and that machine was twice the size). And I can find the play/stop button now... with middle finger touching the phone, it's under the index finger.
So a mixed bag, but if you want something that looks pretty good and sounds good, you might like it. Certainly most of the other options are horribly ugly and often sound bad too. I just wish they had been smarter about the buttons, both how the work and how they are made. I use it to charge my phone at night while playing sounds from the phone, and to display the time. It works for that once I get used to its button quirkiness.』 『Start a pleasant day with your iPhone/iPod tunes on the Philips Docking entertainment system DC315 with dual alarms. (Impressed with this Bluetooth) 『I am very impressed with this bluetooth. The sound is great, it was far cheaper than you would by in the store. It is extremely durable too! I've had mine for over a year and sent it thru the washing machine twice and it still works perfectly! True it doesn't exactly fit in your ear and it's a little annoying turning it on and off, but this is definitely worth the money!』
(WASTE OF MONEY) 『I BOUGHT TWO JUST TO HAVE ONE CHARGING WHILE I USE THE OTHER ONE. BIG MISTAKE!!! BOTH STOP CHARGING WITH NO REASONS IT WORKS OK JUST FOR A FEW MONTHS.』
(Its just OK) 『It serves the purpose. But I still hear static in the bluetooth unless the phone is extremely close. I hear static when my phone is on my hip and I am walking. I have to put my phone clipped on my purse which is at my shoulder and has less movement I suppose. Its still not crystal clear. I also didn't receive different sized ear pieces from the seller, only the M. A friend who bought this from the store received a S, M and L. For someone with small ears, even the M is uncomfortable. So I am unable to just have the bluetooth in my ear waiting for a call. I have to put it on after a call comes through, so that takes away from the convenience.』
(SImple, cheap and small) 『I only gave this 4 stars because I actually had owned a knock-off I purchased from China that had slightly better functionality than the genuine Samsung one. But that is not to say this headset is sub par, I just lucked out with a great knock-off. The battery life is pretty decent but I only use it in the car and try not to leave it in there, though my old one survived in the car for 4 years with summer heats that ranged in the upper 90s to low hundreds. I've only had experience with one other headset, the Plantronics Discovery and the Samsung WEP 200 beats the Discovery by far.
Pros: - Better voice recognition* (esp for voice dialing) - Clear headphone - Loud enough without distortion* - Optional ear loop (not necessary) - Decent battery life - Range is reasonable - Small
Cons: - Can't turn off the blue indicator light - Could be louder

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Naja King is AWESOME!!!) 『I bought one of these for my husband. T[...] is a fabulous company to work with. They will answer any questions you have, and discuss any ideas you might have for a self adapted/created mount of the "Form" that comes with the Naja King. You can buy separate stands that will fit the Form, and have total versatility. Excellent craftsmanship. These products will hold up very well for years. Extremely strong metal, and yet flexible. Your iphone or ipod wil NOT fall out of the form!! Yet, it is easily removed when you want to take it out. I love these products!!』 『NAJA King [pronounced NaHa] is the first quality portable media device holder. Just like our ever so liked PED3 desktop holder the NAJA King rotates for wide screen viewing on your iPhone or iPod touch while in a case or skin. The 3 foot soft flexible coil is slender yet exclusively designed for secure form-able positioning. With small coiling abilities it is compact enough for travel and it is a great solution for those long flights, and yes it does nicely wrap around the back of your neck for hands free entertainment.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Fantastic Product&Exceptional Customer Service) 『I ordered this product, but was not satisfied with how it bounced in, and blocked, the vent. I contacted the company to request an exchange for the suction cup version of this product, and was surprised to hear from customer service within an hour of my inquiry. Their solution was to mail the suction cup extension part, and they did so the the same day! I received the part two days later. It was easy to attach and strongly adheres to the windshield. The best holder I've experienced yet, and hassle-free customer service.』
(Nice but..) 『Nice piece works on my Vertical vent just fine. But i do need the airflow it blocks and had to wedge a matchbook to keep the vent from rotating around.I'll probably modify it myself to fit somewhere else as the holder itself is great. your results may vary.』
(Works exactly as described.) 『Despite my inability to notice that the description specifically states horizontal vents and the location I had chosen to install this unit were vertical vents, the product still worked for me. Removing it in this installation scenario my prove impossible (unless I break either the vents or the vent clips), but by installing it with vertical vents the unit angles towards the driver and works perfectly.
I did install one clip initially and found that it was difficult to remove, but unlike other products, with the addition of screwdriver to assist, I was able to remove the clip. I then had to attach both clips to the unit and simply press into place.
The flexibility and quality of the unit is superb. The flexibility of the side clips and the bottom rest bars allows for use of many phones, or even the addition of a BT audio unit to the bottom of the iPhone while still allowing the use of the holder.
My wife loves it.!』
(not bad, not bad at all) 『Was pretty easy to install on the vent, only fell off a couple of times. Fits my iphone 3g nice and snug and is the perfect distance to seeing a map or controlling my pandora radio. The "easy" release button isn't the best, I had to click it a couple times to get my iphone out. I like the bottom part because it leaves room for the charger to plug-in.』 『Our New Gomadic Car Vent Mount allows you clear visibility and finger tip access to your device in an attractive; streamlined package. Eliminate the mess of multiple cords
Instead of using multiple cords and outlets to charge your devices, the myGrid can charge up to four devices using a single cord and outlet - eliminating the mess of multiple cords. Also, the myGrid is as fast as standard chargers*, so using less cords is the most efficient way to charge multiple devices.
*Based on USB 2.0
Ultra-slim profile

Installing and using a Power Sleeveâ¢
myGrid is easy to use: Step 1. Carefully insert your device into the Power Sleeve.
Step 2. Use your fingers to stretch the Power Sleeve over the top of the device.

Safe to touch
If the system is functioning properly and there is no fault detected (i.e. keys, metal object or a hand placed on the charging pad) then the indicator light will turn off in 3-5 seconds. You are now ready to charge your myGrid-enabled devices. Simply place them on the myGrid charging pad with the contacts facing down. The blue indicator light will light up to show you that your devices are receiving power.
If a fault is detected, the indicator light will (1) not appear upon initial power up or (2) turn off during operation.
When not in use, the myGrid charging pad will be in Sleep Mode. In this mode, the charging surface and the indicator light both turn off.

All Freehands have fully shirred wrists to keep cold air from getting in and a plastic hook and loop to hold the gloves together when you put them away or to attach to a jacket zipper. This being our launch collection we wanted to keep things simple. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Bought for the skin, charger cable a bonus!) 『This is a good skin, it's easy to scuff up to remove some of the slickness. The whole reason I bought was to make iPhone easier to hold, it does that for sure.
It can stick in your pocket unlike the plastic skins, but I don't put it in my pocket.
The screen protector is standard, the glue on the film was stronger than I expected, so I wasn't able to pull the top film off the first time, leaving me with a couple of dirty/bubbles on my screen..but I'm not worried about it.
The car/wall charger units are standard usb connections (I only had the one that came with the iPhone so I was really happy to get them).
The usb cable is AWESOME! It locks into the iPhone and has a retractable cable..not the highest quality retracting cable I've ever seen, but it will definatly do.』 『Premium Crystal Case for iPhone 3G / S Protect your iPhone 3G-S with style. 100% 30 Day Satisfaction Guaranteed.』
