『Follow along with others who have reviewed this receiver. I am not an expert at setting up these things and had no problems getting it going. Used Toslink to hook up audio from Dish 722 and still had to use audio cables to get sound to second system for sound distribution through house. Don't know why one input could not be spread throughout system...Only gripe...Enough sound venues to satisfy anyone's taste.
Video pass-through shows no degradation that I can see. Unit does get HOT!!! I have mine on a single shelf with about 4" of headroom and 3" of sideroom and it still gets so hot that it is very uncomfortable to hold your hand on top pf the unit. Hope this was built into the design, as it won't last long otherwise. I researched for several weeks before deciding on this unit...Glad I got it..Don't think you will be disappointed...』

『In a nutshell: sounds great, amazingly complex to set up and operate, unintuitive controls and some minor things that just don't work. For example the iPod connection simply didn't work, and my emails to the company went un-returned. I also run my set-top box through it, and while it works it does so only after a good deal of fiddling. I am happy about the sound quality, but wish I did a bit more research and found a product better thought through.』

(Good Receiver! Tricky setup for unconventional hookups)
『I have had this receiver only for a few days. The primary reason for getting this receiver was for its HDMI switch since my 5 year old Panasonic Plasma only has 1 HDMI input. It is a replacement for a Yamaha HTR-5750 receiver that I have had for about 5 years. Other than the Cable HD DVR, I wanted to connect a Mac Mini to my TV through an HDMI connection along with mini Optical output that mini has. I have a 6.1 sound setup using the Onkyo speakers. The setup was not hard since I am used to hooking up A/V receivers, however it took me a good 2-3 hours to figure out the configuration especially on how to config assignable inputs. The problem is Kuru Link. It's On by default and prevents matching an HDMI input with one of the Optcal inputs for example. After figuring this out, I had another issue when suddently no sound was coming from the Mac Mini. After wasting some more time and tinkering with inputs, it dawned on my that you have to toggle through Audio inputs to select Digital as the Audio Input. This experience left me rather bummed. May be I should have read the whole Manual but it is not properly laid out. Any way, now it is working good. The switching between DVR and Mac Mini is faster than I though it would be. The Sound itself is very detailed and you hear a lot more surround effect. However it is not as warm as the Yamaha but I may need to tinker more with EQ. The MACC setup works rather well, but it misdiagnosed the size of my speakers as Large and also errored out a couple of times on the polarity of connections in Auto mode. I had to fix these errors and use Manual MACC. The banana plugs is a good idea as it is rather tight at the back...however, it is a one time thing so it didn't bother me that much.

I also looked at the higher end model 1019AH-K and it does seem appealing especially after great reviews on CNet etc., but I don't need upconversion and the extra HDMI input.

I'll probably be modifying my review once I get more into my new toy.』

(Great Receiver for the money)
『I purchased this Pioneer receiver after a lot of research of reviews for sub 1G receivers. Actually I was going to originally buy the 1019ah but decided that I did not need the additional HDMI input and saved about $100. I bought this unit for my new Home Theater system and it currently is powering two PSB-45 Tower speakers, matched with the PSB center and a Polk Audio PSW505 Sub and I am very pleased with the sound quality!
My friend who is quite the audiophile has a 20g plus NAD system in his Home Theater and I must say that although his sounds very good, I cannot hear such a huge difference in quality of sound. The sound is top notch, music fidelity and clarity is true and precise, and I can hear instruments and notes that I could not make out before in my music. Of course having good quality speakers is crucial too, and if you are going to invest in this receiver dont skimp on the speaker selection either.

If there are any Cons it would be the non back-lit remote, it does make it hard to read in my darkened theater room, and the cramped access to the speaker connectors on the back of the unit, but if you use banana plugs it should be a non issue.

Another review complained about fan noise in his 919ah, I have not had any issues with mine, and have not heard any fan noise from my receiver, so perhaps his has a bad fan motor that would not be difficult to replace since it looks like a standard 80mm comp fan? This receiver is priced right and has all the options most people would need for very good sound reproduction and home entertainment. I highly recommend!』

(Excellent anchor for your mid-range Home Theater)
『I bought the 919 to replace a 3-year old Pioneer 1016TX-V that served me very well, but was hamstrung in its HDMI handling capabilities. As my home theater was expanding, I needed more HDMI inputs and the ability to convert analog inputs to HDMI without the use of additional output cables to the TV.

While the 1019 would have been the logical choice for me (coming from the 1016), it provided more capability than what I required, since I will not require playing a digital source in a second zone nor do I believe in tasking a receiver with video scaling (that should be the domain of the TV or input source, such as a Blu-Ray player). As such, the 919 fit the bill. I did consider the Onkyo RC-160, but have never liked how hot Onkyo receivers seem to run, and was discouraged by some early professional reviews indicating sound quality that wasn't up to par.

Set-up wise, the 919 is a snap if you've dealt with other Pioneer receivers. I had previously done installations with both a 1019 and 819, and as such was versed in the setup of current Pioneer VSX lineup.

The Advanced MCACC does an admirable job of calibration, on par with Audyssey, but like Audyssey, still required some fine tweaking of the center&subwoofer levels, along with the crossover frequency. I will note that it correctly identified the size of all my speakers - something the MCACC on my 1016 did not do.

With a Sony S350 outputting bitstream to the 919, it correctly identified and ostensibly decoded the requisite HD formats, producing a sound quality that seemed to be a level above what my 1016 was capable of - even my wife remarked on the perceived difference! The difference was subtle, and could be attributed to the way each receiver was calibrated, but it was still noticeable.

The iPod/iPhone interface is something special, not only because an adapter cable itself is included, but that that adapter cable hooks into a non-proprietary, can-be-found-anywhere USB port. Kudos to Pioneer! If you ever lose the cable, I'm sure you'll be able to find a relatively cheap knock-off replacement here on Amazon.

A special note about the iPhone/iPod interface: on the 919 and 1019 it is graphically based, but on the 819, it is completely textual and rather displeasing to the eye. Something to take into account if that is important to you.

I was initially hesitant with the 919 due to its MUCH lighter weight and more compact package as compared to my old 1016, but I'm now suitabily impressed. Overall, the 919 is a great buy, especially since you can find it for $350 or less as of the writing of this review. The only improvement I would make is to add one more HDMI input.

『It's very detailed and I think was very useful.Even though I have never wrote a line for iPhone App before reading this book, I felt I was understanding. Its a shame It is outdated, but reading this was a excellent help in the understanding of new iPhone SDK App development process.

『Coming from a PHP world, Object-Oriented Programming can be difficult to wrap your mind around. Thankfully the introduction chapters here aren't too far overhead. OOP concepts are a must-have for modern programmers, and this book makes no contentions to teach you Objective-C directly. However, the author has included some good references to where you can take beginner OOP courses.

Through the first year of iPhone's being and well into the pre-2.0 and post-2.0 environment, this book proves invaluable for its chapters on the UIKit, a large part of the API that is used to build graphical apps on the device. Extensive coverage of UIKit classes, as well as undocumented 1.0 enumerations for certain components makes this a frequent reader when you are getting started.

The examples within the chapters cover just about anything you can think of doing with the UI, within reason. You will be able to confidently build apps that rival the ones included by Apple itself. Chapters on audio and graphics subsystems are as complete as could be at the time, and offer some examples that would be useful for game developers.

Quirks about the Ojective-C language are briefly discussed, then wonderfully mastered and repeated frequently to drive the point home. Object delegates, high-level messging, inherritence; you will get a full course of modern OOP goodness.

By the time you are done working with the chapter's examples you will feel like a million bucks. The iPhone platform is now your own lump of clay for you to mold and shape to your will. Couple this with some in-depth cocoa publications and you have the all the keys needed to swing the doors wide open. Feel smart, be informed and discover the tremendously versatile API that is iPhone OS.

The 2.0 version of Apple software makes some important changes, but for the most part, this book is still very useful. Great for beginners -- even if you don't know OOP, you can learn from examples on the 'Net and be way very soon.』

『While this book was well written and informative, it is well past its prime now. Apple's Official SDK is no longer beta, and thrid-party apps are flowing on the AppStore. While there may still be a reason to jailbreak and write completely open and un-restricted apps, this book is still stuck way in the past. The v2.0 firmware has changed so radically that the examples and teaching in this book will only hurt the would-be developer.

Wait for the new batch of books about the offical SDK coming out this fall, and in the mean-time check out a book on plain-old Objective-C instead.』

Like her first book, Ruthie Bitton's second collection of tunes tabbed for 4-hole ocarina is simply fantastic. If you are a beginner, the tab is easy to follow and you'll be playing in no time. But even if you are an advanced musician and can read music fluently, you'll appreciate the fact that such a wide range of songs has been made ready for you in an ocarina-friendly key. This saves you a ton of time transposing. I've played tin whistle and 6 hole Irish flute for nearly 20 years but have only recently discovered the joys of the ocarina. I've had great fun playing all these songs on both traditional pendant ocarinas as well as the iPhone ocarina app. (By the way, the tab is also completely compatible with 5 and 6 hole pendant ocarinas as well.) I give this book (as well as her first) my highest recommendation for anyone interested in this great instrument.』

『Playing my Ocarina is one of my favorite pastimes. After learning all the 101 songs in Ruthie Bitton's first songbook, I bought this second songbook with 100 new selections and I love it! It is very charming with cute illustrations and has a great variety of songs. It has some of my favorite songs from John Denver, Willie Nelson,
Elvis and Beatles. My friend has an iPHONE and she comes over and plays songs from the book on her iPHONE, it's a Hoot!

『It is just too much reflection. I can't see who is calling or what is going on the phone unless I am in a darker place. Forget about texting under the sun when you have this thing on the phone. You will be looking at your reflection.

『At first I was very excited about the Duracel myGrid starter kit. My wife is impatient with tangled cables running everywhere, so I thought it would be great to set up a charging station on our counter with only one cable. But once I opened the package and set it up, I realized that this isn't a workable solution for my family.

* A good sized platform to set up to four devices for charging.
* A charger cable.
* Three types of charger tips.
* One adhesive clip (Yes, just one)

The Problems:

Starting with the obvious: This kit only comes with one of the adhesive clips that is required to charge your device. So this whole kit only gets you ONE charged phone. That's a shame, since there are two other charging tips included in the package.

Speaking of the package, the packaging was worse than most. The charging tips were nearly impossible to get out of the package without damaging them. I wouldn't have tried so hard if I'd know I could only use one of them.

Most importantly, this charging solution is designed so that you will leave the tip and the fairly bulky adhesive clip attached to your phone at all times. That means you'll have a much bulkier phone IN YOUR POCKET, because it probably won't fit in any holster or case anymore. The tip and clip also interfere with any buttons that are near the charging port on your phone.

You will also have trouble if you access the charging port on your phone for data transfer, which is likely, since two of the three included tips are mini-USB. That means you'll have to remove the tip from beneath the clip before you can connect your data cable (and then hope that you don't lose the tip).

I found this setup to be very impractical and to create more of a nuisance than the charging cables. If the entire purpose of the product is to reduce the number of cables, then the solution is worse than the problem. My wife is the one who hates the charger cables, but she told me to get rid of this charging station ASAP.

Even if I could get over the nuisance of the bulk added to the phone, the price seems way too high to me just to get rid of a couple of cables. Remember that you'll need to purchase additional tips&clips before you can charge more than just one phone.』

『I was given the opportunity to review this item and I looked forward to it.

I thought that anything that reduces the clutter of a million power cords can't be bad. nd certainly this is not a bad product at all.

Pros:

1. Design: nice looking design to be sure. Fairly compact (about 7 inches across by 4 5 inches wide), plus a power cord and a small blue power light. This item turns off the power when you place your hand on it, so no worries bout getting a zap of juice at all.
2. Size: You can place four items on the grid, which makes it ideal for a family to power their devices if you have the right tips (more on that under cons), so it is a space saver.
3. Coolness: this item ranks pretty high on the coolness factor. It is a great idea always to get rid of a million different cords, but....

Neutral:
1. Cost: this item costs a significant amount of money. I guess my question is why I would fork over a chunk of money to reduce clutter... money versus clutter... I think money may win out for me on this one. Plus, if I upgrade my phone, I have to go and buy another tip.

2. Travel: this item is large enough the travel is not necessarily made convenient by having this item. This is one downside of this item.

Cons:
1. Tips: You have to have the right tip to insert into your phone, headset, etc. to attach it to the magnet provided so you can get juice to your device from the grid. On the model I was provided, I was given tips for Blackberry devices and Nokia, but not the Blackberry mini USB. Thus, I couldn't really use the item without purchasing the correct tips for each device including one for the Blackberry Curve and and IPhone. This is another significant cost, and again the question is whether I want to spend money to save some clutter. I am not really sure many people will want to incur a significant cost to save some clutter for different cords when this is intended for home and you will be provided with the cords for home use already when you purchase the product.

Overall this is a GREAT idea. it is just that asking someone to spend a good deal of money (it is more expensive than some of the phones your powering) is not a goo design strategy. Great idea, poor execution. It is just okay.

(A GOOD CHOICE FOR CHARGING MATS)
『Let me start by noting that I first tried a Powermat PMM-HO100 Home&Office Mat (Black) and ended up returning it. I really liked the idea of this new technology (using less energy to charge several items at once) and myGrid was recommended by a friend. After trying it out, I ordered one. I rate it four stars when compared to others in the market but three overall. I am still keeping my old charging cords since it does not address charging outside of home.

It is easy to set up: plug the myGrid into an outlet, place your items into the required holders, place them face up onto the mat, watch for the light which ensures it is working properly and wait the usual time for your item to be charged.

All of the charging mats use these simple steps but myGrid has some added benefits. I love that the myGrid can charge up to four electronic devices (this is the highest I've run across in charging mats). You still need to place your electronic device into a holder (a basic one is provided for you and additional ones cost around $34) before placing it onto the charging mat but the cost is the same no matter the device - others charge more for premium electronics (such as Blackberrys or iPhones). The holders or "power sleeves" are much easier to connect then others which is a HUGE plus when you are talking about expensive devices. This charging mat is convenient if I leave it out with the required holders on it.

Like all others in this category, it works for certain cell phones and not across the board. I am hoping that myGrid will branch out to include more brands to make this an even better option. You will need to invest in additional power sleeves so note that the end cost is higher (I would estimate at least $120).

To my thinking, myGrid takes less energy by using magnetic connections to one AC outlet over separate power cords to an AC outlet for each device. Does anyone know?

If you want the latest in technology, this is your best bet.』

(Convenient tool...with an ugly design)
『Let me begin by saying who I believe should buy a charging pad such as this one: if you have multiple cell phones that you would like to charge, or if you are very tired of having to go search for your ordinary plug-in charger and then fiddling to plug that into your phone. Also, this particular kit only works for owners of Motorola, Nokia and Blackberry phones. Users of any other brands can forget about this as chances are high that the right charging plug is not included. iPhone users, do know that according to Duracell's website an iPhone version of this pad is supposed to be out in Spring 2010.

So what is this product? The Duracell myGrid charging system basically allows you to place your cell phone on a mat to charge instantly, without having to fiddle around for a charging cord. Many similar charging systems that are now out use a physics concept called induction to charge the phone, where there are no exposed metal contacts on either the charging pad or the phone. The Duracell myGrid is NOT one of these chargers, however. Probably in the interest of cheaper costs, Duracell chose to use the older, very common concept of conduction where metal contacts on the phone and charger conduct charges.

So what does that mean? It means that the myGrid charging pad is actually one large pad with a large metal surface area. When turned on, this large metal area IS energized with electric charges. At first glance, you might think that you can shock yourself by touching the pad. Nothing to fear folks, as the electricity flowing through the pad is too weak to create any noticeable shocks. And to add peace of mind, if the pad detects your finger or anything else that conducts electricity (like keys, jewelry, etc.) to be touching the pad, then it shuts off the current.

How do you use it? To get the juices flowing into your phone, Duracell includes a special "clip" that has three tiny metal contacts on the bottom. You are supposed to stick on the "clip" with the included adhesive to your phone. The clip then connects to a charging plug which is inserted into your phone's charging port. That completes the setup. To actually charge, just place the phone on the pad with the clip in contact.

What are the flaws? Well, the charger still works if you don't 'stick' the clip to your phone. Instead, the catch is that you'll have to be careful when taking your phone off the pad. The clip is literally a magnet that sticks on to the pad, so you'll then have to exert careful pressure to remove the phone+clip from the pad. I think that's a bad design aspect in that if you were ever to switch phones, you would have to attempt to peel off the clip from your old phone and stick it on to your new one. Also, if you did stick on the clip, then you have an ugly and oddly-shaped piece of plastic stuck on to your phone for most of the day. It can get in the way of your hand gripping the phone, you can't exactly use many cases with the phone, and it just looks odd. Oh, and personally I think the pad just looks plain ugly. The whole metal pad with its black and chrome trim seems like something Doc Brown would've had in his DeLorean back in the 80s.

What could be improved? I think Duracell should do what other manufacturers of similar charging pads are doing and creating sleeves where the phone can be kept in a sleek-looking sleeve all-day that can do double-duty as a nice case. In fact, they seem to be doing this. The iPhone charging system that I mentioned earlier is on their website seems to have this very sleeve. Now if they were smart and brought it to the other brands as well.

Also, this product is being marketed and designed for cell phones only. If Duracell could find a way, I would like be able to charge my other devices on the pad, like my bluetooth headset, PS3 controller, iPod, etc. If a wide-variety of devices could be charged all using this one pad, then I would say the myGrid is guaranteed to be a hit! At the moment though, for just a few cell phone models I am not surprised to see the naysayers here on Amazon shooting down this gadget.

Overall, it's a gadget that is meant purely for convenience sake. If the clip design were improved (and maybe the overall pad design was more sleeker), then this pad can be a big seller.』

Step 3. Ready to charge, place the device on to the myGrid charging pad making sure that it rests fully on the pad. The blue indicator light will appear on the myGrid charging pad when the device is being charged properly.

The blue indicator light will light up to show you that your devices are receiving power.

If a fault is detected, the indicator light will (1) not appear upon initial power up or (2) turn off during operation.

When not in use, the myGrid charging pad will be in Sleep Mode. In this mode, the charging surface and the indicator light both turn off.
