(Only 1 version is on the DVD)

(Amazing)

(Better than the original)

(One of the best action movies ever!!)

(The best in the Terminator series gets a great exdended treatment)
I agree!
There is only one version on this DVD. There is 2 discs in the box and a nice metal sleeve. The picture is very good and close to a blu ray.
But you do not have 3 versions (On mine anyway) Subtitle is in Spanish only. No French etc...
I love that DVD but it's not the ultimate edition. I do not know where to find the ultimate edition and I do not know if it has a metal sleeve.
If somebody knows, please let me know how can I recignize the ultimate and where to find it
Guy

The original Terminator was something very special and was the film that kick started the career of one of the biggest action movie stars in history. Arnold Schwarzenegger in the original Terminator was the definitive bad guy; violent, emotionless and unstoppable. That same character returned for the sequel, but this time he joined the defending team and was sent back by future John Connor to protect the past John Connor. Arnold is still a T-101 but was reprogrammed by future Connor to fight on the human's side, and rather than having a human enemy, the story is very much Terminator vs. More advanced Terminator.

Judgement Day focuses around a 10 year old John Connor whose mother, Sarah has been put in a mental institute for telling the stories of the original Terminator assassination attempt and John is a rebel living in a foster home. Another Terminator has been sent back to kill the future leader of the human resistance, now a much more powerful enemy, the T-1000 (Robert Patrick) which is a machine that is made almost entirely of liquid metal. It can morph itself to look exactly like anything it touches and mould parts of its body to sharp objects to assassinate those who get in its way. As the protector, a reprogrammed T-101 (Arnold) is sent back to protect the young rebel.

Taking the guise of a police officer, the T-1000 goes on a rapid search for John and comes very close to catching him, but at the right moment is found by the T-101 and has the best man (or machine) for the job as his protector. Once John becomes aware of his possible future, he and the T-101 embark on a journey to not only break Sarah Connor out of the mental institute, but to destroy Skynet and prevent Judgement Day and the rise of the machines. Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) is now a tough woman who appears tougher than the T-101 and becomes the leader of the attack on Skynet.

The original Terminator movie at the time was considered really hard to top as at the time of the sequels release, the original had gained a massive cult status. Nobody really considered just how good this film would be and it came along at a time when Arnold was developing his career as a diverse actor, whilst still remaining loyal to the action movie genre. Also, hot off the cusp of the massive film, The Predator, there was no doubting there would be more interest in this solely because of Schwarzenegger's involvement. Of course, a massive budget of $102 million and the involvement of Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't necessarily make a good film. What made this great was its pace, atmosphere, acting, action, script and special effects all masterfully combined to create what was undoubtedly the film of that year.

The clarity of the special effects of the time was revolutionary, much like the special effects exhibited in the first Terminator. They managed to make the T-1000 machine utterly believable in its presence and ability to mould itself and transform at will as we were treated to particular moments in which it did just that. Most impressive was its rising from the mental hospital floor behind one of the guards, only to kill him and take his form. The makeup of the damage taken by the T-101 was also very well done and really did make it believable that Arnold was possibly really a machine underneath that masculine exterior.

Linda Hamilton is triumphant in this role and a complete re-imagining of the character we know from the first film. The Sarah Connor from this movie is vociferously brutish in her demeanour and is clearly a woman who has experienced something very traumatic that has meant she needed to lose the core emotions that weakened her in order to survive. Edward Furlong as the main protagonist for the entire Terminator story arch displayed a perfect character and the rebellious kid attitude was performed really well by him. It almost makes me wonder what the hell those involved in the third Terminator movie were thinking by not casting him in the lead role once more.

I honestly adore this film as it manages to become unconsciously deep and expressing of the idea to remain emotionally close whilst at the same time remaining strong in your convictions. It was well deserving of the awards it won at the time and it's quite sad to know that any future Terminator movies will not pale in comparison to the brilliance of Terminator 2. Buy it or rent it, either way, you will love it.

They threw in the deleted scenes in the movie, some of them really weren't needed, but otheres made the movie more interesting. Best movie out there!
this is one of my favorite movies of all time not just action. This movie is just action packed and is just fun from start to finish. I have seen this movie so many times and i still have not gotten tired of it. Terminator 2 has already been released on dvd and i have to say that if you are a huge terminator fan you should buy the first one that came out it has so much detail and information about the making of the movie that it will blow you away. This re-release is okay i guess it has a couple more special features that are worth a watch. But the real reason that this dvd was released again was for the sound and picture improvements. Let me warm you that you should have a fancy home theater to notice these improvements or else you wont really notice a change in picture or sound. But regardless this is still terminator 2 and regardless what version you nuy you wont be dissapointed.
The Terminator series is one of the greatest science fiction franchises of all time. My favorite is Judgement Day, but the original is also great and I am not so sure about Rise of the Machines. The extended edition of this entry contained a lot of never-before-seen footage that helped it feel more complete. Arnold Schwarznegger and Linda Hamilton reprise their respective roles of the T-800 and Sarah Connor with a cameo of Michael Bhien as Kyle Reese in a deleted dream sequence, with newcomers like Robert Patrick as T-1000 and Edward Furlong as the adolesent John Connor. The action was exciting, the storyline was worthy of picking up where its predecesor left off, and the acting was well-rehersed. The visual effects were so real. It diddn't use CGI much, mostly miniatures, makeup, and anamatronics. The CGI was only used for the T-1000 shapeshifting parts, the right way, sparingly and hardly noticeable. Abusing CGI for living characters makes it look fake. The plot is where Skynet tries again to kill John Konnor in the past and sends the T-1000 to achieve this goal, and the future Connor sends a reprogrammed T-800 to protect his younger self. It shows John in foster care after his mother Sarah ended up in a mental institution when she tried to tell authorities about Judgement Day and thought she was a psycho. At the mall, John and his friend were attacked by the T-1000 and the T-800 comes to the rescue. John teaches him about human characteristics, such as speech, like Chill out, Hasta-la-vista, baby, no problemo, etc. John also explained why killing is wrong. It is because we have feelings. Together, they help Sarah escape from the hospital and the trio goes to stop skynet. This was a great action flick that will keep you entertained for hours, now with all these extras, and an extended version. Too bad the the original version on this DVD can only be played on a P.C. If you want to play the original version on T.V., please get the original DVD revision as well.
After he pushed the envelope of computer-generated special effects inThe Abyss, director James Cameron turned this hotly anticipated sequel toTerminatorinto a well-written, action-packed showcase for advanced special effects and for one of the most invincible villains ever imagined.Terminator 2: Judgment Dayis a legitimate sequel: there's more story to tell about a hulking, leather-clad android (Arnold Schwarzenegger) who arrives from the future to protect a rebellious teenager and future leader (Edward Furlong) from being killed by the tenacious T-1000 robot (Robert Patrick), whose liquid-metal construction makes him seemingly unstoppable. The fate of the future lies in the balance, with Linda Hamilton (who would later marry her director) reprising her role as the rugged woman whose son will change the course of history. (LITTLE SHOP OF MERRY MAYHEM)

(A Kids Review: It is awsome)

(Little Revival of Horrors- a fantastic rock musical gone Disney garbage)

(I find this a more complete, satisfying meal than the movie soundtrack, which seems to me more like an hors d'oeurve platter)

(A Spectacular Find!)
"Little Shop of Horrors" was a cheapo Roger Corman movie from 1960 that now is most notable for showcasing a very early career appearance from Jack Nicholson as a masochistic dental patient.

Following its humble origins the original off-broadway production opened in a small theatre in the 80's in New Yorks' bowery neighborhood and was an instant success and ran for many years. The popularity was due to a sharp and hilarious book, the performance of Lee Wilkoff as Seymour Krelboin, the nebbishly hero/villain and most outstandingly by Ellen Greene as Audrey, the blonde, bimbo-ish skid row flower shop clerk whose taste in men range from sadistic(Orrin) to wimpy(Seymour). Above this was the music and lyrics of Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. The songs were seeped in the "wall of sound" arrangements from the late 50's , early 60's and were absolutely delicious.

This new production saw the "Little Shop" in 2003 march uptown to Broadway and was not successful. Was the big theatre Broadway locale the blame for the shows brief run? Was the much bigger orchestra? a real mystery, but this production still boasted the same hilarious book and the same bouncy delicious songs of Menken and Ashman and had some fun and funny performers. Hunter Foster made a perfect Seymour, the nebbishy and put upon flower clerk with a fondness for nurturing strange and exotic plants. His latest "patient" being a blood-thirsty, human eating venus flytrap hybrid. Kerry Butler as Audrey was good but she lacked the lost soul vulnerabilty of Ellen Greene from the earlier production. And Douglas Sills as Orrin the sadistic dentist boyfriend of Audrey was a riot and in keeping with the tradition of the original musical, he also plays a variety of other roles.

Another big asset of the show is a trio of sassy, street urchins whose names are taken from girl groups of that bygone era. And so, Crystal, Chiffon and Ronnette are a "American Bandstand" greek chorus weaving in and out of the story and they ARE the glue that binds the show and spins it merrily along.

The songs are all fun and among the best are the title song, "Skid Row" "Somewhere That's Green" which has a literal reprise, "Grow For Me" where Seymour sings plaintively to his wilting plant until he realizes the nourishment his plant needs--human blood. There is a song about the profession of sadists "Dentist" and "Feed Me(Git It) where Seymour finds that now his growing plant can talk and now needs bigger and better nourishment (Mankind) and there's even a power ballad for Audrey and Seymour "Suddenly Seymour"

There are other goodies like "Ya Never Know' "The Meek Shall Inherit" and the finale, "Don't Feed The Plants" where the now monsterous sized plant now sports flower buds that resemble the cast who have been devoured.

Wonderful show, wonderful music and lyrics and a really fun and funny show and a wonderful cd to listen to the music over and over again.

Okay, first off, let me say this, it is totally awsome. But in suddenly Seymour Audreys voice goes so low. I really don't understand why in the movie they didn't have Now(its just the gas), i mean, come on, it is an awsome song. The finale for both act one and two are awsome. Now why cant they go back onto a broadway america tour. By the way, dont get the off broadway cd because seymours voice is so nasaly. And if you want ellen greene, get the movie, she is in it.
Little Shop of Horrors is my all time favorite musical- I own the movie and I'm even in the musical that my school is holding. I even loved the original Roger Corman film- in fact, the whole Little Shop of Horrors story is fascinating to me, and the transformation from old school low budget movie to stunning Off-Broadway was fantastic- this was JUST the movie.

There have been many revivals of the show, and this is probably the latest one. And I must say, it isn't bad, but it's definitely not good either. Here's why:

SEYMOUR: OK, could have been better. When it comes to Musical Theatre, nobody can top Rick Moranis' portrayal of Seymour. The guy playing Seymour here struggles on the "I don't know! I don't know! Should I go and perform mutilations?" part.

AUDREY: Ugh, don't even wanna talk about it. Her vocals on Somewhere That's Green make me wanna kill myself.

ORIN: Not bad, but he could cut down on the sustaining notes.

MUSHNIK: Pretty good, nothing special. WOrks on Suppertime though.

THE DU-WOPS: 2 of them are great, the other one is AWFUL!!!!! She totally ruins Da-Doo.

THE ENSEMBLE: Better than the main cast. Great singers, especially the wino on "Skid Row" who goes "Then you go...".

THE ORCHESTRA- this is where it REALLY fails. Over orchestrated and Disney-like. I felt like I was listening to the OST for Cinderella. THis is supposed to be a ROCK musical, not a Disney peice of trash.

Overall, buy this if you are an extremist, but be warned- there's better versions of this musical out there for sure. Try the 1986 film or the original broadway cast.

Let me start out by saying I too love the movie, as it was my first exposure to this show, it wasn't until years later I found out it was based on the Roger Corman movie. And I cannot argue that Ellen Greene OWNS the role of Audrey (as the originator of the role on Broadway, she just ran with it and made it her own), and Levi Stubbs as Audrey II is perfect as well. I was also pleasantly surprised that Rick Moranis held his own, I never would have thought of him as a singer.

That said, the movie and it's attendant soundtrack are not perfect. First and foremost, the lyrics are muddled throughout, to the point of incoherency in a number of spots. That's a shame, because Howard Ashman's playful lyrics and verbal gymnastics are, for me anyway, the star of the show. (I miss Howard terribly, and frequently wonder what other masterpieces he and Alan Menken would have created, after their stint at Disney. But I digress...) Also, there are some quite talky parts of the movie that seemed odd for a musical, although Mean Green Mother from Outer Space was written specifically for the movie, and is a worthy addition. Finally, I heard the ending had been changed, due to some bad test screenings. I know the original ending exists somewhere, and I would love to see it.

But all those problems are resolved with this magnificent CD. This is the complete show, with all the songs and the original ending, which is wonderfully dark. The lyrics are crystal clear, and there is far more dialogue from the show incorporated, instead of the truncated songs from the movie soundtrack. I especially like the counterpoint in Now (It's Just the Gas), where Seymour sings the exact same sentiments 2 different ways in consecutive stanzas, a fine example of Ashman's clever wordplay, on display throughout. Mushnik and Son is a twisted version of If I Were A Rich Man, from Fiddler On the Roof. There are a number of other short songs cut from the movie that just enrich the entire show, weaving as more complete story than the movie soundtrack.

While the music and lyrics are perfect, and I agree that Micheal Leon Wooley's Audrey II does not hold a candle to Levi Stubbs, I think it's time to lay off Kerry Butler as Audrey. No, she is not Ellen Greene, but who else is? It must be daunting, to have to live up to that original performance, as ingrained as it obviously is in these reviewer's minds. In all honesty, I prefer her more focused and human Audrey to Ms. Greene's cartoony Betty Boop voice frequently over-the-top and mannered phrasing, especially in Somewhere That's Green. I found Ms. Butler's performance to be much more down-to-Earth and heart-rending, instead of making it a big "Look at me, I'm on Broadway" number. But that is one man's opinion. Also, she gets to sing the tragic Reprise of that song, cut from the movie, in favor of the new ending.

Look at this show as the director's cut of your favorite movie, remixed to sparkling clear stereo with added scenes that fully flesh out the story (the songs cut from the movie), and even deleted scenes (the demos, all of which would have been fine additions to the show, with We'll Have Tomorrow being my personal favorite). I find this to be a more complete, satisfying meal than the movie soundtrack, which seems to me more like an over-stuffed hors d'oeurve platter. And if you still miss the movie, do what I do: Play Mean Green Mother from Outer Space either before Sominex / Suppertime II (so as not to destroy the flow between that song and the Somewhere That's Green Reprise) or after (where it seems to logically fit).

But no matter how you play it, this is a worthy successor (and is in some ways superior) to an obviously much-revered soundtrack.

I bought this CD on a whim. Previously, I had only heard three songs from the show (Grow For Me, Somewhere That's Green, and Suddenly Seymour) and I wasn't sure if I would like it or not. Usually I am sketchy about buying CDs I have never heard before, but based on the musicals popularity, I gave it a try.

And boy am I glad I did. I experienced instant gratification when I played this CD for the first time and immediately played through it a second time. I have always been a fan of Alan Menken's music and this is definately one of his best works. The music is very well written and the orchestrations are full and very satisfying. Micheal-Leon Wooley as Audrey II steals it for me.

As for all of you Original Off-Broadway Fans, I don't see any reason to bash this recording. True, I didnt grow up with the simplified version, nor have I even heard it, but being a huge fan of another very simple, Off-Broadway show (The Fantasticks) I can understand why you would be a "Little Shop" Purist and hate this "overblown" production. But in my mind, I see this as a show by itself, and not a re-due of the original. I was very pleased with this CD and I wonder why it took me so long to catch on.

Does this score kick butt or what? While the staging of the 2003Little Shop of Horrorsrevival is entertaining enough, the recording is even more rewarding. Since you're not distracted by the sight of a huge plant devouring one cast member after another, you can focus on Howard Ashman and Alan Menken's ace songs. No wonder the show is a high-school and summer-stock fave, packed as it is with appealing characters and catchy 1960s-flavored tunes. As Audrey, Kerry Butler won't make anybody forget Ellen Greene, but she certainly is lovely. Hunter Foster's Seymour strikes a perfect balance of sweetness and klutzy desperation as he delivers perfect interpretations of all his songs. Even better, this cast album is a complete rendition of the show, unlike the recording of the 1982 Off-Broadway production ("Call Back in the Morning" is now included for instance), and comes with a glossy booklet. Cherry on top: Five previously unreleased songs are included in demo versions performed by the show's authors.--Elisabeth Vincentelli

(Makes you think.)

(Great thriller suspense movie!)

(I'm not sure)

(A very effective thriller!)

(Worthy follow-up to "God's Army")
Substandard by the best movies coming out of Hollywood, but still worth watching. Just think about it as you watch. This one isn't for stupidly sitting there wanting to be entertained: it asks you to think. And then it climbs above most Hollywood products. This is a really good "who-done-it."
This is one of my favorite movie's by Richard Dutcher. It keeps you guessing till the end.
I thought it was an OK movie, but a little weird for an LDS film. The ended was shocking but then made you feel good. I wouldn't watch it with kids, but it's a good one.
A Sheriff who also is Bishop in a very small religious village in Utah is very proud to maintain his community well distant from the rest of the world in which violence and murderers concern. But suddenly, all his hopes will vanish when he had to del face to face with a serial killer.

Among the several samples of Independent Films, this one maintains an impeccable conceptual honesty and very personal style. Hi camera 's employment with wide objectives reminds us to Howard Hawks and the suspense treatment with the first stage of Alfred Hitchcock. This director even his youth, handled with absolute mastery suspenseful moments, leading us to false assumptions and wrong deductions, building an interesting script, which may be a bit overlong specially at the end.

But the final sum justifies by far, his undeniable talent. Remember this name; for new producers and great audiences. Bravo for him.

"God's Army," Richard Dutcher's previous film, remains one of my favorite movies of all time. "Brigham City" is its worthy follow-up, and exceeds it technically. I love good suspense/mystery films and "Brigham City" certainly succeeds on this front. But it is more than this because of the Mormon setting that underpins it. I am not Mormon myself, but appreciate the spiritual worldview which undergirds and deepens Dutcher's films.

What I like about Richard Dutcher's work is how his stories are propelled by a faith which seems an intregal part of his artistic life. To me his films are art; conveying an immersion in life and the human experience through story -- rather than a story told in order to promote faith.(Although, truthfully encapsulating one's spirtitual journey/underpinnings is in itself promoting of the
spiritual impulse in others).

"God's Army" and "Brigham City" each have one scene that to me encapsulate Dutcher's talent. In "God's Army" it was the scene where the greenie missionary spends the night wrestling/praying for a personal spiritual experience to enable him to continue on his mission. In "Brigham City' it is the scene at the end where the female FBI agent attends the LDS ward service before heading for home. What is conveyed for me is that while a part of her longs for the community and faith present there, she realizes this is a private moment for those who have spent their lives within that community, and quietly leaves.

In both films the scenes are subtle, and gain power because their story is largely implied, without words. This, to me, is the signature of an artist.

Richard Dutcher'sBrigham Cityis a rare find in the recent onslaught of murky religion-based thrillers and Satanic conspiracies--a modern crime thriller with a powerful and passionate spiritual message. In some ways it plays like a contemporary Western, with Dutcher as the upright county sheriff and local church bishop of a rural Utah town terrorized by a serial killer. Like the marshal of a peaceful frontier community, he first tries to shield his town from the horror, then pulls the good churchgoing citizens into a veritable posse. His cinematic skills may be a bit clumsy and his modern take on frontier justice naïve, but his heart is in the right place. He creates a portrait of family values, community ties, and neighborly caring with an honest, unaffected forthrightness. Ultimately, fear and suspicion is the real snake in Eden.--Sean Axmaker

(Amazon Service&Product Quality)

(I love this movie -- just ordered the new blu-ray release!!!!!)

(rubbish.....)

(B.S.Ending!)

(No one's seeing it for what it is!)
I am a loyal customer a Amazon.com, I am very glad to mention to all of the global customer that i am very much impressed with the picture quality, product quality, and the awesome service provided by the amazon globally, i truly recommend to all the global customer to take the advantage of the amazon.
It seems that people either LOVE or HATE this movie -- there's no real middle ground for this one. I love it and just wanted to add my positive vote!! I actually ordered the new blu-ray release, and that says a LOT, because I rarely buy dvds. I just love the special effects in this movie -- the vampires are so much fun to watch -- I love the lights constantly going in Frankenstein's head -- can't wait to see the blu-ray version on my new 65 inch TV!!
... simply put......... rubbish.

The amount of Money spent on this film....... decadently sickening!

The Script....... flawed, flat, numb.

The Direction........ Lame!!!!!

The actors....... tried hard to save it! but failed miserably!

The Computer FX.......... beyond woeful! ....this stretchy, movement blur thing is ruining all the reality of film - give me practical fx anyday! ...you losers who enjoy this green screen fake reality - go play a COMPUTER GAME! Films were meant to be real - sets - locations - special effects = aimed to extend our perception of reality - not this lifeless, dull, gamer orientated rubbish which upon conclusion, really just ends up being disrespectful to the old horror masters they tried to impress!

If someone aims to HOMAGE the classic HORROR films of the golden age of horror - for godsake don't sell out like these fakers....

go buy the original classics and put this where it belongs.... the bin!

This just shows that Hollywood can't think of a dawm thing to put on the Big Silver Screen. DRACULA KILLED by a bite from the Wolfman, what a load of Bull S. Dracula is a shape shifter who can change to any creature of the night including Werewolves. So, why the you know the F#*@ would Werewolf bite kill a being that's already dead or undead? Because Hollywood couldn't think of a way for the villian to be disposed of dramaticlly. Hollywood stick to the source material and stop creating a lot of BULL!!!
Van Helsing is one of the most over the top action movies I've ever seen. It's got in your face CGI and a ridiculous plot with cheesy acting. But that's what makes it so damn good. Like other reviewers have said who liked it, it's a nod to the oldies with the new technological makeover and it's a helluva lot of fun to watch...again and again. I understand how people don't like this movie. I may seem like I have horrible taste in movies by loving this, but I like a good Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, or The Shawshank Redemption, much smarter, much more mature and provocative works that stay with you for a while. This movie is the kind where I can just relax, not think too much, and just enjoy and adrenaline-filled, visual effects laden, awesome adventure. I thought the production design was super cool, and at least I could tell a lot of people working on this movie put love into what they were doing. Haha I know that sounds so stupid but I thought so. I'm just puttin down my thoughts on this because I don't want everyone to expect and judge this movie because it's not as smart or well constructed as other, better movies. This one is just F-ing fun. Pardon my French.
quot;Non-stop action...A breathtaking thrill ride. quot; Lots of exclusive special features. Explore the castle, play the Van Helsing game.
Like a roller coaster ready to fly off its rails,Van Helsingrockets to maximum velocity and never slows down. Having earned blockbuster clout withThe MummyandThe Mummy Returns, writer-director Stephen Sommers once again plunders Universal's monster vault and pulls out all the stops for this mammoth $148-million action-adventure-horror-comedy, which opens (sanscredits) with a terrific black-and-white prologue that pays homage to the Universal horror classics that inspired it. The plot pits legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) against Dracula (the deliciously campy Richard Roxburgh), his deadly blood-sucking brides, and the Wolfman (Will Kemp) in a two-hour parade of outstanding special effects (980 in all) that turn Sommers' juvenile plot into a triple-overtime bonus for CGI animators. In alliance with a Transylvanian princess (Kate Beckinsale) and the Frankenstein monster (Shuler Hensley), Van Helsing must prevent Dracula from hatching his bat-winged progeny, and there's so much good-humored action that you're guaranteed to be thrilledandexhausted by the time the 10-minute end-credits roll. It's loud, obnoxious, filled with revisionist horror folklore, and aimed at addicted gamers and eight-year-olds, but this colossal monster mash (including Mr. Hyde, just for kicks) will never, everbore you. A sequel is virtually guaranteed.--Jeff Shannon

(Outstanding Rat Wrangling!!)

("YOU MADE ME HATE MYSELF!" WHERE IS THE DVD FOR THIS SOB!)

(This was a disturbing movie that was pretty much the forerunner of gore movies)

(THE ORIGINAL IS ALWAYS THE BEST!)

(Another fine movie. . .)
This is a standout from the Animal vs. Human motiff of horror genre of the 1970's (Day of the Animals, Food for the Gods).
Young, shy and social outcast "Willard" (everybody misreads Willard as the rat's name) adopts and tames a hoard of fast multipling rats. He then uses them to exact revenge on his oddball family and scummy boss (E. Borgie, who is very good). I have had 4 pet rats off and on for years and find them to be intellegent and affectionate (excellent pets) and always rooted for the ratties!!! You go Ben!!

My memories of 'Willard' are far better than the movie itself. Growing up in the 70's who could forget the great poster from the movie,(which I am lucky enough to own)the creepy trailer(which is scarier than the film) and an incredible performance by Bruce Davidson, which is too good for this lovable but, sub-par film. If not for Davidson and the rats this movie would be a bad TV movie of the week! I would like to see this released on DVD! I would buy it and I know I'm not alone.
However, there's alot in this movie that annoys me. I know it's helped me to develop a fear of all mice and rats alike. I also know that the secratary of this movie played by Joan Shawnabe has a uncanny knack to shrink a guy's testicles; that's right folks just make you feel so bad about yourself that your once proud pair are now shrunken heads between your legs. You know those type of women gentlemen; we've all had them cross our paths at one time or another. Those who seem to be rather uncaring towards anyone who crosses thier path unless it's to help them succeed. Meaning poor Willard is nothing but a eunuch to her, a leper, and anything else you want to consider. She wears those dresses that show off her curves that makes you want to grab her close, and wet her dress with semen, but don't go there she's not worthy of your knowing her. She's not worthy of being a human, but since we live under grace it was shown to her here. Yes Ernest Borgnine deserved to be killed by Ben and Socrates, and so did the people who mocked and laughed at Willard, so WHY WAS SHE SPARED?!!!!! She deserved to die also, to feel the rats cover her face in turds, the claws cutting her face up, and her hair being chewed up, making her cry, and do many other bodily functions. This is some rather gory stuff isn't it? well let's face it folks as I said earlier we've all had this kind of girl/woman cross our path at one time or another, and this is a bull session to get it out what we would like to have happen to them because it wasn't done in this movie. Willard you have to pity him at times here because of what he had gone through with taking over of his father's company, and being demoted to almost a janitor, and his mother is not faring any better as she's having a mental breakdown from it all. I do feel that Willard had something going for him with Sondra Locke as his main squeeze in this movie. That's like the most beautiful girl falling in love with the toadboy in school, and that's where Willard made his mistake. You see Willard forgot to give credit to the rats. Mind you since he was considering marriage to Sondra he couldn't keep them, but he at least could've set them free instead of trying to drown them, but then again Willard was rather prideful because Sondra fell in love with him for himself, and not because he had rats that would devour all thier enemies. This is not fluff, but it's not all that great either. I don't plan on watching this ever again, and why I'm here is to tell everyone how I feel about the secratary. She's hot, but don't play with fire, and that's the same message of this movie.
Although it's hard to compare he remake featuring CRISPIN GLOVER to the classic original with a very young BRUCE DAVISON (X-MEN) I have to say the original is truely better.

The newer version is definately a modern telling of the tale and also contains a bit of the sequel in it.. (elements of BEN) and is definately creepier

BUT you definately have to see the original to truely understand the impact is has on the remake.

Did I make any sense.. oh well we're talking about a movie where a guy names rats and becomes friends with them.. get over it..

BUY THIS WHILE IT'S THERE!

All has been well said about this fine movie.
It would surly be a sin though to release Willard without its great sequel, "Ben". They are a MUST to be viewed together:-)

("And You Go In Pieces")

(AWESOME SCI FI MOVIE ONE QUESTION! Why isn't this on DVD yet)

(Best Sf movie ever)

(great flick)

(i was thinkin bout RIO)
Essentially, "I Come In Peace" (aka "Dark Angel") is a great idea that was only moderately well exectued. With the exception of appearing in a religious drama, this is probably the strangest vehicle for action hero Dolph Lundgren to get himself over, and to some degree, the Swedish Superman makes it work, but even along with the passing performances of the rest of the cast and a pretty original bad guy, "Peace" ends up being forgettable due to its uninspired pacing and overall lack of action.

Jack Caine (Lundgren) is a vice cop who's earned himself notoriety for doing things his way, much to the dislike of the department. After being assigned a by-the-book partner whom he frequently finds himself at odds with (Brian Benben, "Radioland Murders"), Caine's personal war on Houston's drug cartel takes a twist when a new player on the street turns out to be a seven-foot alien who's killing innocents by way of massive heroin overdoses. Threatened by underground entities of two different worlds. Caine must watch his back at all times as he attempts to overcome an enemy who no one else believes exists.

Consider the movie a combination of "Lethal Weapon" and "Terminator" - buddy-cop flick meets sci-fi action package. The premise gets even more absurd as the story progresses, as you find out why the alien - armed with a machine pistol and an wrist-mounted razor disc - is on his killing spree, but if you can keep from being too uptight, through the power of Dolph you'll never really feel the need to question why or how all of this is happening. "Interstellar drug war? - why not?"

But while the movie has the right approach to its story, it has exceedingly little action to back it up. An uninspired car chase and a couple of short shootouts (albeit with big explosions) couldn't keep me entertained while I waited for the eventual, passable confrontation between Dolph and the alien (played by B-movie veteran Matthias Hues). I kept waiting for a decent martial arts showdown or a gunfight using the alien technology, but neither comes through satisfyingly enough. Seeing as keeping violence out of the movie wasn't the issue here (spike through the forehead, anybody?), I really can't figure out why the movie lacks the thrills the way it does.

The way I see it, "I Come In Peace" has little reason to stay on my shelf: as an action movie, it's lacking; as a sci-fi film, it's too asinine; and as anything else, it's a debacle. While Lundgren has done worse, both he and director Craig "Storm of the Century" Baxley have done better. It's a bit disappointing to see such obvious creativity be left obsolete by the lack of other essentials...but what the heck: I never liked Dolph with brown hair, anyway.

I Come In Peace, is pretty well acted. The plot is exciting and as sci-fi goes in a pretty what if? beleivable sort of way. I Come In Peace is at times a good balance between both the funny and serious in what I think are the right ratios.

There is just enough love interest without it turning into sappy syrupy muck fest. There is the tried and true action hero side kick angle going on. There are nasty stinking earthbound dope dealers born to be hated with every fiber of your being. Finally you have an alien dope dealer from outter space who wants to steal endorphins from us lowly earth creatures. To this space alien dope dealer all every man woman and child on earth are his crop to be harvested at his whim. His job is to simply supply the demand for a drug our brains make and that he has to kill people on earth well thats just the costs of doing his ugly business.

I Come In Peace contains lots of action adventure, shooting, car chases and blood of both the human and alien varieties. I Come In Peace is just plain silly fun on so many levels it begs the question, WHY HASN'T WE COME IN PEACE MADE IT TO DVD YET? Why hasn't "I Come In Peace" made it to DVD when I have seen so many lesser quality or purely lame Sci-Fi movies come out on DVD. Dracula 3000 comes immediately to mind as the lamest alien \ horror hybred movie maker tripe yet to make DVD. I Come In Peace is of a level of quality so superior to Dracula 3000 that it hardly rates honest comparision.

Here is hoping the studios do the right thing and release I Come In Peace on DVD. Reading the other reviewers for I Come In Peace convinces me that I am not alone in thinking I Come In Peace is both worthy of DVD status and quite marketable as well. I Come In Peace is some of Dolph Lundgren's best work. Who knows the studios might hear our requests for I Come In Peace to be released on DVD because every so often studios DO actually listen to their customers! We can at least live in hope.

This is one of Dolph Lundgren best movie.Don't miss this movie.
i saw this when it first came onto vhs all those years ago, and just loved it. have been looking for the dvd, saw from the other reviews that it wasn't available in the US, so looked more, and YES!!!!!! its available in Australia FOR SURE on dvd ( i have it) BUT its called Dark Angel, so as long as you have a multizone dvdplayer get this on dvd and continue to enjoy it in all its glory. certainly one of dolphs best, good action and killer aliens!
I saw this flick the very first night it came out in theatres and have been a die hard fan of it ever since. I love Dolph Lundgren in this, and it is even better than Punisher(which is another one of his underrated movies of the late 80's. Where is the dvd and when it does come , do not make it bare-bones with no trailer, commentary, deleted scences and all that good stuff.

(Creeping Unknown)

(Three Astronauts Never Knew What Was In Space . . . And What It Would Do To Them)

(where's the Region 1 DVD???)

(A Classic Science Fiction Film)

(A good movie to see)
I have waited years to see this movie again. Of course, it's not as creepy as I remembered it but I still enjoyed it. A must addition to my sci fi collection.

Released in 1955, "Quatermass Xperiment" is a creepy, horrifying masterpiece of science fiction. What is the Quatermass Experiment? Professor Barnard Quatermass sends three British astronauts into the far reaches of the galaxy for observations. Their rocket crash lands on earth and only one astronaut, Victor Caroon, remains on board. Empty space suits of the other two are immediately found. Escaping from the hospital, Caroon attacks and absorbs plants, animals, and humans. Each time he feeds, he mutates into a creature that is a composite of all its victims until it finally resembles a shapeless glob with numerous tentacles.

Brian Donlevy does a superb job as Quatermass. However, in "Quatermass Xperiment," Quatermass is more ruthless and less compassionate than his character in "Quatermass and the Pit." He is obsessed with the progress of science no matter the cost of human lives. The disaster with the first rocket mission is barely over before he begins planning another. I was more fond of the Professor Quatermass from "Quatermass and the Pit." I wished he had been in this film.

"Quatermass Xperiment" was such a big success that it gave Hammer Production enough money to finance the gothic horror films that came later. If only "Quatermass Xperiment" had been made in color like "The Curse of Frankenstein" or "Horror of Dracula." It would have been incredible.

The pacing of the movie is quite good; it is never boring. The special effects were excellent for that time; the victims'' corpses, especially their faces, were gruesome. However, a higher body count would've been nice.

"Quatermass Xperiment" was definitely an influence on "The Blob," which was released in 1957 and starred Steve McQueen. It also influenced the mutating monsters that were found in such modern hits as "Relic" and "Resident Evil."

I enjoyed "Quatermass Xperiment" so much that I watched it twice in a roll. It is must have for fans of Hammer Production and fans of science fiction horror.

As a teenager in the 1950's I discovered Hammer Films British Horror and Sci-Fi and have joyfully collected the DVD re-issues. Anchor Bay has done a wonderful job with great source material but where is this total classic?? The 2nd Quatermass film has been out for some time in America, Australia and Europe have released the first film in their DVD own formats, so why not in the U S of A???? Although a product of its time the suspense, moody black and white photography and decent make-up effects result in a lot of fun for the viewer who isn't spoiled by today's multi-million dollar gross-out clunkers.
Before a little British company called Hammer became famous for Dracula and Frankenstein, there were the adventures of Professor Bernard Quatermass. Based on the live BBC serial from 1953, The Quatermass Xperiment put Hammer on the film world map. How that happened it obvious from this tense, realistic, and gritty science fiction classic.

The film is immensely helped by an excellent cast. Brian Donlevy's Quatermass is the archetype science fiction film scientist: a scientist obsessed with their quest for science before turning having to deal with the consequences of that quest. Donlevy plays Quatermass to perfection as a scientist who is both horrified and fascinated by the events he has set in motion. It's a strong performance filled with realism. fascination and horror. The cast also includes terrific performances from Jack Warner as Scotland Yard's Inspector Lomax, Margia Dean who takes the potentially clichéd Judith Carroon and puts flesh and blood on the character, and David King-Wood as Quatermass's fellow scientist Doctor Briscoe. The best performance of the film may well be from the character who never speaks: Richard Wordsworth as Victor Carroon. Wordsworth perfectly plays both the horror of thelone surviving astronaut and also sympathy as the worst off victim of the Quatermass experiment. This is especially true in a scene where Caroon finds himself at a dock where a little girl approaches him with her doll. It reminds one of the scene from the Universal Frankenstein where the seeminglyinnocent takes on a darker meaning. Overall, the film has a terrific cast of actors bringing it to life.

At a time when science fiction films were defined by the clichéd and outrageous monster and alien invasion films, this film (and its TV counterpart) went in the exact opposite direction. Director Val Guest choose to do the film not in the style of the time but in a near documentary style. That's why the film work's fifty years later: it seems real in that itis a product of its time and place. If Britain had started the space race in the mid-1950's, one feels this is how it would have been.

The film is also helped by two very strong elements: the black and white cinematography and the music score. Doing the film in black and white adds atmosphere to a film that is part alien invasion and part manhunt. It helps especially in the film's fiery finale. The music score by James Bernard is terrific in adding to the atmosphere of the film and it never intrudes, but just helps to bring one a little bit closer to the edge of one's seat. The film wouldn't be the same without either one of these two elements.

Yet as much as I would like to call this film perfect, it isn't. There is one thing that the film hits and misses on: special effects. The downside of the film being so much a product of its time is that when the special effects are looked back at from a distance, they look primitive. That's not to say that the special effects are bad. The prosthetics work in particular looks good even by today's standards as far as I'm concerned. The finale of the film is the most obvious spot where the special effects are a bit of a let down by modern standards. Then again, it is hard to compare special effects from one era to another so this is an issue for the viewer to decide on.

While the special effects may hamper the film for some, one must admit that The Quatermass Xperiment is a classic of the genre. From the terrific performance (especially of Donlevy and Wordsworth), to the realistic style and tone, to the excellent cinematography, to the dark score by James Bernard, The Quatermass Xperiment is a tour de force for the more intelligent and less action based science fiction films. If you can put aside the mid-1950's special effects, you're going to find a tense, realistic, and gritty science fiction classic.

Only true fans of science fiction will appreciate the creeping unknown
a.k.a.The Quatermass Xperiment. I happen to be one of them. I remember
watching this fim at the age of eight and it scared me silly. Later on
I understood better and it didn't bother me.
Basicly I like the film. When you consider that this is mid 50's London
when true special effects weren't even around yet,I think the film super-
cedes itself into a wonderful smooth-flowing movie even if the plot is
somewhat typical of Sci-fi movies of the 50's. For what it's worth, even
the United States did't have the best sci-fi special effects like the
ones we see today with comperization. It actually took real crews of men
and women to produce those effects.
Brian Donlevy in his performance as the arrogant Professor Quatermass
is so hateful you have to love him. Another memorable one is Richard
Wordsworth who play Carroon. Absolutely brilliant. I also found amusing
the overly dramatic expresssion of the BBC announcer in the trailor who
witnesses this unknown thing with his own eyes. Only the TV announcer
in Gorgo did better. The only notables are King-Wood who play the good
doctor's assistant and Jack Warner who played Lomax. I liked his sarcasm
when talking to Quatermass. Actually brought Quatermass to his knees if
only in a figurative sense. Otherwise everyone else just essentially
played their parts. Still it is good science fiction fun.

(What do women see in this?)

(Great book!)

(sexy and fun)

(oh wow!)

(Looking for more vampire romance?)
About the genre: I decided to read this after a co-worker raved about it--she neglected to tell me that it was pornographic, which I don't care for, but I should have guessed given the title. Silly me. While I dont care to read porn, I can definately understand how a normal woman is be attracted to a normal man. What I don't understand, however, is how ANY women could EVER be attracted to the men in this book, or other similar books, no matter what there, er, size might be. I don't understand all this recent literary fascination towards books about romance with vampires and werewolves--I mean do you REALLY want a man who kills, rapes, drinks blood, disappears, and goes after other women? Maybe I am weird, but I just like ordinary working, faithful men who don't require transfusions every day (or night). I don't fantasize about getting bit and having my blood sucked out or the other way around. I know this is horror fantasy, but I guess I believe it is just too overboard to make it so "personal".

About this particular book: The characters call themselves "wrath, viscious, sadist" etc--you get the picture? Despite being centuries old, their conversations sound like they learned to talk by listening to too many 1990's rap albums, dig? They also dress like the 1990's superheros in long black coats, black this, black that etc. They live in a fancy mansion, but have atrocious manners and go tooo far trying to act like "common" vampires. ('cuse me, they are the "bad" vampire killers and not "bad" themselves; they are the "good" vampires who defend the rest of the world from the bad ones, must make that careful distinction) The are the ultimate macho toughguy he-men vamps; they carry weapons, can literally sniff out their opponents (who smell like baby powder, seriously!), and are the ultimate fighting machines. They live and sleep together, drink blood and beer together, and have a great male bonding--but differing opinions about women. One disdains them; another rapes them; another takes all the women he can get etc. They have been like this for centuries until they meet the heroine, who is like no other female on the planet, of course.

The heroine is the one gorgeous half vampire/half human who can change any man she meets by her looks and fiesty personality alone, wouldn't you know. She transforms this motley crue into a sensive, caring, woman respecting clan. Mr woman disdaining Wrath melts like butter in her presence. (He is also blind but gets around perfectly by his other senses and is the vampire king) Her only problem is that she needs to drink Wrath's blood to survive being half vamp, but she so courageously does that and becomes the vampire queen. SOOO romantic.

Yuk. Maybe I am too much a realist.

I absolutely loved this book! A great series for those who love Larissa Ione's Demonica series.
This book was just plain fun. Compare it to a snickers bar for breakfast. It certainly isn't a literary masterpiece in the ranks of Tolkein or CS Lewis, but it was great fun to read. An excellent vacation book, very sexy with super hot vampires, action, and romance. I am looking forward to the reading the next one. It is kind of like Twilight for adults.
This book was so good! Mmmmm... it was sexy, thrilling, and romantic. Wrath could be such a sweetheart! I couldn't put this book down. J.R. Ward is a goddess among writers!
For lovers of Twilight and Sookie Stackhouse, this is a great series to dig your teeth into! Definitely for those looking for more vampire and adult romance to enjoy. Warning: you'll want to buy the whole series at once, you won't be able to stop at just one!
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood. The only purebred vampire left on earth, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-leaving his half-breed daughter unaware of his existence or her fate-Wrath must usher her into the world of the undead-a world of sensuality beyond her wildest dreams.

(Good vamp book)

(The Vampirie The Awakening and the Struggle)

(I expected more from L.J. Smith)

(Overrated! More for the under 16 crowd...)

(Not the best vampire book)
After reading Twilight I, like many others, got on the vampire bandwagon and found this book. Because I read Twilight first this felt like a very similar copy of it. However, I know this book was written long before Twilight and I wonder if Twilight's writer loved these stories. Regardless, like Twilight, I enjoyed this book. It was easy reading, on the dark side, not just for teens, and I'm excited to read the next in the series. My review isn't going to tell you this is better than Twilight or worse, I enjoyed them both. I can say, if you enjoyed Twilight you will enjoy this book and vice versa.

This is the story of Elena, most popular girl in school and she's faced with a new student. Darkly handsome and very quiet Stefan. Elena gets what she wants and she wants Stefan but he's not responding to her. With a blood vow between herself and her best friends, Elena begins to pursue Stefan. Eventually he'll respond and they'll soon fall in love and she'll learn what he is. However, there have been some deaths in town since his arrival. Turns out his brother, Damon has followed him here. And he's now interested in Elena as she is very similar to the girl that broke the brothers apart. I thought it was clear Elena wanted Stefan, but in a turn of events she's now discovering a connection with Damon. The book ends on a cliffhanger, who will she choose, Stefan or Damon?

Although I am 82 years old I still enjoy these books. They are wrtten in such a way to keep your attention. When I start readind I have a hard time finding a stopping place.
"Vampire Diaries" are the earlier books written by L.J. Smith and, unfortunately, it shows. I enjoyed her later trilogies "Dark Visions" and "The Forbidden Games" very much and therefore had very high hopes for "Vampire Diaries."

To my disappointment, the writing is just not as good as I came to expect from L.J. Smith. The characters are not fully developed and more often than not unlikeable. The romance also is not written very well. It is very hard to believe in passion between Elena and Stefan. The narration itself is just too choppy; multiple POVs are sometimes confusing and distracting.

However, I have to give credit L.J. Smith for creating characters and mythology that were later shamelessly "borrowed" by Stephenie Meyer. The similarities between "Vampire Diaries" and "Twilight" are undeniable. Human-vampire romance set in high school, blood lust, angst, "vegetarian" vampire - all was first written by L.J. Smith.

I will continue on reading this series and hope the books are going to get better.

Vampire Diaries has a lot of similarities with Twilight; I wouldn't be surprised if this was once in Meyer's collection. It wasn't very well written (short easy sentences) and the characters were undeveloped. The main female character isn't very likeable, she comes off as overly cocky and Stefan, her vampire love, comes off as weak and vulnerable. It felt like she was more intent on saving and caring for him than he was for her. The atmosphere and emotions were not very detailed, you didn't really feel that there was a great love between the two characters until the very end of the book when stuff hits the fan. It started off rather slow and ridiculous (with the whole queen of the school stuff and her being surprised that ONE guy in the school didn't find her attractive so she set out to make him hers). This is a LAST RESORT read, for when you've already read all the other great vampire, romance books.
I picked up this book hoping to get as addicted to it like I am with Twilight. But was very disappointed. It takes until book 3 to get interesting. With the Twilight books it is easy to identify with the main characters and minor ones too. But I found that Elena's was way over the top. I can't truly imagine that there are girls in High School that use guys like tissues and just throw them away. I will definitely finish the series, but I really don't recommend these books as strongly as I do the Twilight series. Forgive the pun, but I couldn't sink my teeth into this one.

Elena: the golden girl, the leader, the one who can have any boy she wants.

Stefan: brooding and mysterious, he seems to be the only one who can resist Elena, even as he struggles to protect her from the horrors that haunt his past.

Damon: sexy, dangerous, and driven by an urge for revenge against Stefan, the brother who betrayed him. Determined to have Elena, he'd kill to possess her.

Collected here in one volume for the first time, volumes one and two of The Vampire Diaries, the tale of two vampire brothers and the beautiful girl torn between them.

(Loved it!)

(Tralee)

(this book reminds me a lot of another vampire series)

(Even better than the first!)

(The First "Twilight")
First of all, let me say that if you are planning to buy this book, buy the next one as well, because you will be left wanting more! Smith grabs your attention and keeps you turning pages until you reach the end, at which point you are desperate to know the next sequence of events. In the tragic yet illuminated story of Stefan, Elena, and Damon, you can't help but feel as if the characters are part of your own life, not just people you read about. I personally developed feelings towards every character, whether i loved them or hated them, i had my own distinct relationship with each one. Smith is marvelous with characterization, and the story will grip you and keep you dying for more. My only complaint would be the slight similarity to twilight, but it is still a marvelous story. From the inner workings of the authors mind comes the illuminated darkness of the novel.
This series was great. I read all 4 books in two days and read the fifth between financial statements as they were such a good read keeping you enthralled but not losing you with unnecessary story plots. It has so much more to offer than Twilight
This book is worth reading and I did enjoy it. It really reminded me of Twilight but with just a few changes to the story.
The love-hate relationship between the reader and Elena is back! But this time, Elena is much less self-centered and popular. After the cliff-hanger at the end of the first volume, I was dying to read the second!

Stefan, Damon, Matt, Bonnie, Meredith, and the rest of the crew are back. This time, they face more than two mysterious vampires. Many might think this book is a Twilight spin-off, but if you check the publication date, this series was published before Twilight. If you loved or hated Twilight, you will still enjoy this series!

This definitly reminded me of Twilight, only this was written first. Elena is a lot like Bella, only at least that is embraced and not written off as a clutz with low self esteem. Elena has esteem in spades, as well as friends and admirers. What she doesn't have is the one person who really makes her stomach flip, until she meets Stephen.

What Elena doesn't know is that Stephen is trying his hardest to resist her, which makes him all the more appealing to Elena.

There are other interesting characters as well. Bonnie, her psychic friend, and Meredith, the sensible one, and Matt, who is brave despite his mortality. They pull together for Elena and prove to her few good friends trump many friends any day.

What I love is that this isn't only from Elena's perspective, but from everyone's perspective, making it all the more enjoyable. While it was dry in some areas and took awhile for me to get into, I couldn't put it down once I was.

Elena: transformed, the golden girl has become what she once feared and desired.

Stefan: tormented by losing Elena, he's determined to end his feud with Damon once and for all—whatever the cost. But slowly he begins to realize that his brother is not his only enemy.

Damon: at last, he possesses Elena. But will his thirst for revenge against Stefan poison his triumph? Or can they come together to face one final battle?

Collected here in one edition are the third and fourth volumes of The Vampire Diaries, a riveting conclusion to the tale of two vampire brothers and the beautiful girl torn between them.

(Supernatural season 4!)

(If you're not watching this show......)

(Keeps getting better and better..)

(Pure Supernatural Awesomeness!)

(OHHHH SUPERNATURAL!)
At first I wasnt sure about watching this show Now Im really glad I did It is scary but It is also funny and very entertaing I would recconmend any1 to watch this A PLUS
then you are missing the greatest thing to happen to network television, EVER. I was a huge fan of buffy so when i saw that the same network was coming out with another supernatural drama i was very excited. I watched the first four or five episodes when it first came out and wasn't immediately impressed. It seemed like they were just going to find some random evil to monotonously overcome every week with little attention to an overall story line so i stopped watching. Man was I wrong, and its rare that I'll admit that. Sometime during the third season a friend of mine convinced me i needed to be watching. Remembering that buffy didn't start out so great either i gave in and put the first two seasons on my netflix cue. Since watching the episode "Home" I have been absolutely hooked, which was ironically right where i had originally stopped watching. This was before i discovered hulu so bought each individual episode i had missed from season three from itunes. And i would do it over and over again if i had to, without regret.

I have since then bought the first three seasons on dvd and loved rewatching every episode. I can see this being something i could rewatch every couple of months or so and never get tired of it. The writing is amazing, the effects are way better than you would expect from television and you couldn't ask for better actors (Jenson Ackles is downright delicious). It really has gotten better and better with every season. I'm starting to wonder wether eric kripke sold his soul at the crossroads. I guess if he had more people would be watching.

So take my advise and buy all the seasons, watch them, then start telling your friends how much you love it. It would be a damn shame if this show didn't continue to stay on the air because not enough people gave it a chance.

I don't know how they come up with this stuff, seriously! I have been wondering for the first 3 seasons how come Heaven doesn't lend a hand in the fight, then along comes the angels for season 4. Castiel appears to be a truly good angel, but some of his higher-ups may not be. And I KNEW there was a reason I never trusted Ruby! Dean was right, demons are evil, period. She only helped the boys to serve her own agenda.
Just two of the highlights of this season are Dean screaming like a scared little girl at a kitten, (he'd been infected with a virus) and Jensen Ackle's performance in the scene where he tearfully tells Sam about what he went through in Hell. I was glad to see Bobby back again. Basically all of the cast knocked it out of the park this season, as well as the writers and other crew on the show.
So as for season 5, I have no idea how they will top Lucifer rising up from Hell, but I know they will! At the end of each season I always say they will never top this, but they always do. I'd have to say right now this is my favorite show on tv; it has the most imagination and the wildest plot twists and turns, but it's still easy to follow along. I'm glad their ratings have increased this year, they really deserve it. This is one of the most unfairly underrated shows on tv. If you like the show as much as me, it's your duty to get someone else hooked on it! That shouldn't be too hard.

Speaking as someone who has been with Supernatural from the get go (and loving every minute of it) I'm just as excited as all the fandom at the upcoming release of the DVD box set for Season four. This show has always been a five star series for me. The only reason I'm not giving it a five here is because I'm waiting to see if the DVD release of Season four has all of the extra features I'm hoping for. Season three was disappointing in that it had less episodes than usuall but I was also disappointed in the lack of good episode commentary and behind the scenes stuff. I know alot of people don't care for commentary but if it's done right you can really get alot of new insight into a show and learn about things you didn't already know. Aside from the regular director/cast commentary, I'm really hoping to hear more commentary from the writers and effects crew as well as some of the supporting cast members like Jim Beaver or Misha Collins. A special homage to Kim Manners would be nice. Also some effects reveals (like how did they get Sam to roll around on that wall in "when the Levee Breaks"?) What can I say, I'm a sucker for behind the scenes reveals. I'm sure the gag reel in this season will be really awesome.
This show has truly been a credit to Erik Kripke's genius. It's very difficult to come up with a solid plot line to last five seasons but boy has he delivered. Add to that, the strong team of writers and an amazing cast (whoever casts for this show should get an award!!). I find it more kismet than coincidence that the two stars of this show are not only both from Texas but are both middle children in families of a younger sister and older brother. These two guys were destined to find their way into each others lives as actors and friends and it really shows in the chemistry they share on screen. I can't wait to see what happens next season and what kind of extras are on the DVD set for Season four. I'm happier than a puppy with two persqweeters!

i love love love supernatural, but....... this season wasn't as good as the other three. i mean i didn't really get into the whole angel thing but i will buy this season no matter what! i love this show it's AMAZING!! it's just i hope the fifth season will be the best of all:)

(Murray, Aykroyd&Ramis hit the comedy jackpot!)

(busters still fun)

(Ghostbusters Box)

(One of the best movies of the 80's)

(My husband and I love the Ghostbusters!!!)
This set contains parts 1&2 in slimcase design, a feature I like because they're space savers.
I remember going to see the first "Ghostbusters"&flipping for it (I went to the theatre FOUR times!). This "special effects" comedy was really something else, and it still holds up pretty well today (who can forget one of the great movie sight gags involving a giant Staypuft Marshmallow Man??). It had a funny&loose script, terrific special FX, a great cast (even Sigourney Weaver showed she had a flair for comedy) and a good director at the helm (Ivan Reitman, who previously worked with Murray&Ramis on "Stripes"). All you have to do is watch it again to figure out why GB became the biggest grossing comedy of all time (that is, until "Home Alone" ousted it from its throne).
GB2 came close but failed to top the original. Picking up five years later, weird supernatural occurrences (which seem to involve Dana Barrett's baby) prompt her to seek out the guys (who are now poor after New York City sued the GBs for damages from their previous film) for help. After narrowly escaping a "hangman's trial" by a ruthless judge by battling some pesky spirits (whom the judge had given the chair earlier), the boys are back in business. There are some good comedy scenes here, such as the "river of slime", the Titanic finally "arriving", and the "calvary" in the form of a slime-powered Statue of Liberty. Winston's (Ernie Hudson) role is expanded in this one, and look out for the actor who nearly steals the picture as the nerdy foreigner whose services are used by the creepy villain Viggo.
The remasters are nicely done, and the booklet of information behind the making of the GB duo is a fun read. A "making of" featurette on the original is among the DVD extras, along with two episodes from the animated series.

Revisiting Ghostbusters was a great for me! I bought the two pack one and two movie set with the book included and enjoyed every minute of this 1984 classic sci-fi-comedy film. Dan akroyd and Bill Murray could not be topped. The former SNL legends made this movie with their slap stick and perfect timing. The CGI ghouls were awesome the second time arounjd. This flick stood the test of time and gave me a great time....
The two movie pack w/ movie book is a nice addition to my collection.

This was in great shape and less than if I bought it at Best Buy. I loved the Ghostbuster movies. I'm glad I can now replace my old VHS tape with the DVD of the movies.
Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 Double Feature Gift Set came with a Commemorative Book of photos from the movies. It was great. One of the best movies of the 80's. Buying from Amazon.com is the best way to shop because you can always find what you want at a good price.
We love it. I don't know how many times we have watched it since we have got it.(Alot).

(One of the Greatest Sci-Fi Masterpieces of all Time . . .)

(Great space flick!)

(Forbidden Planet)

(Sci-Fi Classic)

(Dicky-doo)
Until this day it is still impossible to believe that this Gem - a true Milestone for its time - was created in 1956 . This is the Sci-Fi Classic that actually did 'Boldly go where no man had gone before' and long before Star Trek and its decendents . The transfer from film onto DVD is flawless in every way, the color is rich and dreamscapish the sound is crisp and way ahead of its time, a clear departure from the standard of its time . Having not seen Forbidden Planet in quite some time I had forgotten just how far away from placing an emphasis on quality over making a quick buck we have come . A timeless classic that in fact taught everyone else how to make films of this Genre is nicely packaged in a DVD that is truly one of a kind . This is a must-have for every serious film collector .
I saw Forbidden Planet for the first time when I was in grade school. SScared the h*#*#&out of me. I had to sleep in my mothers room for 6 months before I could get the fear of "DEEP BREATHING" out of my bed room. MY mother cursed my dad forever for taking me to see it! I have now watched it at least 30 times. I can't wait for the 2010 version, due out next year! I hope they do a good job on it, and bring it back with 21st century graphics! And can the "WOO WOO WOO" stuff.
Forbidden Planet DVD is excellent. The DVD was received in excellent condition and before scheduled delivery date.
Forbidden Planet is a classic of science fiction. By todays standards the visual effects are antiquated but this movie was made over 50 years ago and with that in mind, the special effects are special. Also a great story of man's intrinsically evil inner self.
Excellent sci-fi! BUT...the DVD holder was created in 1999 and the cheap plastic that holds the disc is brittle and breaks allowing the disc to move freely and become scratched by the broken plastic during shipment. The holders made after 2000 are better quality plastic and more dependable. Recycle the brittle holders and use a holder that protects instead of taking a chance. I'll pay another dime for it.
Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 11/14/2006 Run time: 98 minutes Rating: G
This 1956 pop adaptation of Shakespeare'sThe Tempestis one of the best, most influential science fiction movies ever made. Its space explorers are the models for the crew ofStar Trek'sEnterprise, and the film's robot is clearly the prototype for Robby inLost in Space. Walter Pidgeon is the Prospero figure, presiding over a paradisiacal world with his lovely young daughter and their servile droid. When the crew of a spaceship lands on the planet, they become aware of a sinister invisible force that threatens to destroy them. Great special effects and a bizarre electronic score help make this movie as fresh, imaginative, and fun as it was when first released.--Amazon.com

On the DVDs
On disc 1 of the colorfully designed 2-disc 50th Anniversary Edition ofForbidden Planet(also available in a collector's box), the movie is presented with a new digital transfer from restored picture and audio elements, with soundtrack remastered in Dolby Digital 5.1, offering considerable improvement over the film's previous DVD release. A selection of deleted scenes were taken from a faded and scratchy 16-millimeter "work print" that had originally been viewed by composers Louis and Bebe Barron as they were creating the film's unique electronic score; they consist of full or partial scenes cut from the final film-- mostly for good reason, but collectors (and those who first saw this rare material on the original Criterion Collection laserdisc) will welcome their inclusion here. The "lost footage" is crude special-effects test footage, primarily of interest to sci-fi historians and aficionados. Given the fact that the original "Robby the Robot" cost over $100,000 to build in 1955, it's easy to see why MGM wanted to get their money's worth: An excerpt from the 1950s TV series "MGM Parade" showsForbidden Planetstar Walter Pigeon appearing briefly with Robby, and the popular robot gets even more attention as a guest star in "The Robot Client," an episode of theThin ManTV series (starring Peter Lawford and Phyllis Kirk) that originally aired on Feb. 28, 1958. Disc 1 also includes a gallery of seven science-fiction movie trailers dating from 1953 (The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms) to 1960'sThe Time Machine.

Disc 2 begins with 1957'sThe Invisible Boy, a still-enjoyable B-movie that served as Robby's post-Forbidden Planetshowcase. Here, filmdom's favorite automaton plays sidekick to a young boy (Richard Eyer) who turns invisible when he gets caught up in a super-computer's scheme of global domination. Also included are three documentaries, ranging from very good to excellent: In addition to reuniting the surviving cast members of the '56 classic (including Leslie Nielsen, Anne Francis, Richard Anderson, Warren Stevens, and Earl Holliman), "Amazing! Exploring the Far Reaches ofForbidden Planet" is an appreciative tribute toForbidden Planetwith some of Hollywood's foremost sci-fi fans including special effects masters Dennis Muren and Phil Tippett, SF movie expert Bill Warren, and others. "Robby the Robot: Engineering a Sci-Fi Icon" is a featurette about the robot's design, creation and pop-cultural history, featuring original "Robby" designer Robert Kinoshita, Bill Malone (current owner of the original Robby), and Fred "The Robot Man" Barton, a lifelong robot fanatic who now sells fully authorized, full-scale replicas of Robby for sci-fi fans with deep pockets. Closing out disc 2 is "Watch the Skies!: Science Fiction, the 1950s and Us," a 2005 documentary from Turner Classic Movies, written and directed by Time magazine critic Richard Schickel. It's a thoroughly comprehensive survey of '50s sci-fi and its influence on the next generation of film directors, including engaging interviews with George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, John Carpenter, Ridley Scott and James Cameron.--Jeff Shannon

(Zombies + glow in the dark? Of course it's going to be awesome...)

(Brains! Brains! Must have brains!)

(Perfect Easter gift)

(Great for Halloween Parties)
Bought this and the horrified B-movie victims set for my teenage daughter. She loves it, naturally.
My (grown) brother is really into zombies. I got this for him as a Christmas gift - something to give him a laugh. Shouldn't be a problem, as I was thoroughly amused with them myself. Was also impressed with the amount of detail in each figurine - like the guy carrying his own severed arm. Priceless.
I have a son who is simply obsessed with zombies (in movies, folklore, etc.)And while we are a campy and indulgent type of family, even I was a little horrified when my daughter chose this as an Easter gift for her brother. "After all, Easter is about resurrection" she quipped, so despite my misgivings I allowed it. He absolutely loved them!

Several of the figurines have missing limbs; there is a crawling zombie, and an undead dog as well. My personal favorite is the housewife with a brain in her outstretched hand. Someone put a lot of thought into these, and they'd be even better paired with the B movie victim set (which we were unaware of at the time). They glow in the dark, and for a long time he had them under his bedside lamp, so when it was turned off they continued to imbue his room with a subtle, relaxing light.

I can also see the wonderful potential for decorating a graveyard cake with these guys. A creative and whimsical product!

I used these figurines for cake toppers. I made red velvet cake with chocolate frosting and oreo cookie crumb topping. I then put the Zombies on top. It was a hit!
This could also be a good birthday cake idea for the horror movie lover you know.

(Would be better if it wasn't named Resident Evil)

(Awesome Game!)

(Great Game!)

(Consistently Good)

(Not to be missed)
I love the R.E. franchise and henceforth bought this. This would be a fun action game under a different title. I say this because RE5 plays more like an action game than a survival horror one. Part of what takes away from the eerie/scariness that the franchise is known for, is the addition of Sheva. For me it's not as scary when you have someone else with you all the time. It loses the isolation experience of earlier games. And the in-game interactions between Chris and Sheva are kinda corny and over acted. Like when you tell her to pick up some ammo or something on the ground. But I DO love the fact that you can strafe left and right which makes looking and moving around easier and less of a chore. It does have amazing graphics and the setting looks beautiful, but the setting loses the dark creepiness of old. if you're looking for a cool action game with crazed villagers to kill, I'd say pick this up. But if you're looking for a satisfying Resident Evil game, I can't say you'd find it here.
I love this game. It's not repetitive, and you can play with a buddy is where the fun really begins. Helping your friend escape near death or running from a boss gets your heart really going! I recommend this game to anyone who is a fan of the Resident Evil series or just pure shooting down the baddies~
To me this is one of the best games on PS3 if you like action/adventure/survival games. Game was used, but came in great shape with book and case included.
Resident Evil 4 took the franchise in a new and fresh direction and Resident Evil 5 continues with that approach. If you liked 4 then you will enjoy 5. Action packed with the occasional scare and plenty of intensity. This game has a ton of unlockables that will keep you coming back for hours. If you are a fan of Resident Evil then you don't want to miss this. Key elements of the Resident Evil mythos are revealed and an excellent addition to the story line.
Yeah its a lot like RE4, but it is still a superb title on its own. The co-op system is awsome and adds much more depth to the game. I thought that since its in Africa all the levels would look similar. Actually they did a good job of offering variety in the environments. Control is perfect and graphics and sound are top-notch. (I wouldnt expect anything less from Capcom though.) Overall, this game offers exactly what I wanted in this sequel.
This next-generation follow-up to the terrifying series introduces the theme of escape as its core survival instinct. As Chris Redfield, your life is in danger as you strive to complete your most dangerous mission yet in a sweltering desert colony where a new breed of evil has been unleashed. Swarms of marauding evil beings will charge at you when your pulse is racing at a heart-shattering pace. Environments will play a bigger factor than ever here, using the power of next-gen systems to create a world where terror might lurk in any alcove or shadow. Powerful lighting effects overwhelm the player with mirage movement and blinding brilliance, and even in the light of day, there is no safe haven in this Resident Evil. Powerful New Weapons - The number of weapon variations has been greatly increased providing new ways to keep enemies at bay. Fear Light as much as Shadow - Lighting effects provide a new level of suspense as players attempt to survive in both harsh sunlight and extreme darkness.
Experience the thrill and terror all over again withResident Evil 5for PS3. Featuring Chris Redfield of the originalResident Eviland Sheva Alomar, a West African agent of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), this sci-fi survival game is staged in a remote desert colony packed with hordes of fast-moving, quick-thinking enemies that represent a whole new breed of evil.

Meet Two Fierce, Playable Main Characters
Back from the original title andResident Evil: Code Veronica, former S.T.A.R.S. special forces team member Redfield is a battle-tested, founding member of the BSAA. With a reputation for superior marksmanship and phenomenal hand-to-hand combat abilities, he's on the ground and up against a new strain of evil.

You'll call his shots from the same over-the-shoulder third person viewpoint that distinguishedResident Evil 4, except this time you'll also have the option of playing as his teammate, the fierce, local Alomar. Whoever you play as, updates to the earlier version's third-person control scheme offer more options and promise intuitive interactions.

Learn to Work Together
The new cooperative game play element focuses on the realities of a dual-agent mission, highlighting the ways in which Redfield and Alomar must work together to survive the unexpected, while still allowing them to split up and work alone. To help you maximize the potential of this setup, two-player online and offline co-op modes ensure that you have options when picking a partner.

Steel yourself Against the Harsh Reality of Kijuju
An advanced version of Capcom's proprietary MT Framework game engine brings groundbreaking graphics and effects to Kijuju, the highly-developed environment where this game's action takes place. New, lifelike lighting schemes highlight the differences between harsh sunlight and extreme darkness, and when you move from one to the other, you'll have to wait for your character's eyes to adjust before you can see clearly, adding to the suspense and challenge of navigating this game's environs.

Face the Next Generation of Evil
You'll face new enemies with faster reflexes and improved AI, designed to be as dangerous alone as they are in groups and to keep evenResident Evilmasters on their toes. Thankfully, they're not the only ones who have evolved. This game also offers access to powerful new weapons variations that extend your destructive capabilities.

And the updated, quick-select inventory system allows for real-time inventory management, as well as allowing characters to trade items and allowing you to place an item on the directional pad for instant access. Add all this to a detailed storyline the touches on what the past ten years have meant for Redfield and a Hollywood-caliber soundtrack, and it's clear that the latest installment in this series really does showcase all the elements at the heart of horror gaming.

(Pains me to say it, but . . .)

(Wait for this to hit the bargain bin before buying.)

(a really good resident evil game)

(Fun Gaming)

(Among the best for Xbox360 today)
This is not a great game. It's not even a good game -- just a solidly mediocre one. And who has the time and money for mediocre games? After the towering glory that was Resident Evil 4, I anticipated a nigh religious gaming experience, and that was what I should have gotten. And yeah, before you get all "you expect too much" on me, I'll tell you this: if you don't expect a *hellaciously* good time from entertainment software that runs fifty-to-sixty bucks a pop, you're either eating dodo sandwiches and blowing your nose on Franklins, or you're waaaaay too easy to please.

Okay, before I go into my grievances, here are some positives: I like the basic zombie shooting, punching and kicking. The two-player mode is a terrific thing to put in an RE game, and the ability to revive your dying partner if you reach him/her before he/she sinks to the ground is really cool and dramatic. Firefights with gun-wielding soldier zombies later in the game are often fun -- I was surprised at that, actually. The female characters are really cute, and it was good to see Jill Valentine again (though I don't like how they narrowed down the womanly hips she sported in the Gamecube Resident Evil remake).

Now my grievances: Most of the maps are boring, confusing, and don't usually support the gameplay mechanics very well -- it seems like they're either too big or too small. With the exception of one in which you help Jill out whilst avoiding an invincible Wesker, the boss battles are all phoned in, the big, wriggly snake beast encounters being some of the lamest. All the characters are as *blaaah* as they come, personality-wise; they just say the same dumb, flat things over and over and over again, things like "I should have killed you years ago, pesky, foolish hero!" and "Hey partner, we're partners to the very end, right partner?" and "What are you talking about villain? You're mad, mad I say!" It's alright to say stuff like that here and there in any action game (or movie, for that matter), but not all the rootin' tootin' time! And why did they turn Chris into such a 'roid monster? Sure, he was a big, tough guy in the other games, but jeeez! And one last thing: the African setting wasn't exploited to even near its full atmospheric potential (unlike RE4, which takes place in rural Spain and has European gothic fLaYvA to the MAX).

Don't tell me this game is at least as good as RE4, because it ain't. I went back and immediately replayed it after beating RE5, and it is just so much better. Better gameplay, better graphics (yeah I said it, alright; they're not as shiny and hi-res, but they ARE better), better characters, better story . . . it's just better. Buy that, if you don't have it.

This game is worth about 20 dollars. The controls are awkward. The camera is flaky at times. The unnecessarily prolonged and repetitive boss battles are very annoying they are extremely easy and just requires you to perform the same sequence of actions for what seems like hours. One of the most annoying aspects of the game is the pseudo cut scenes.. Right when you think you are watching a non interactive cut scene... BAM you better press a button or you die. Very annoying but you get used to it. The game has its good points though, the visual are good and the story is nice.

Another point I would like to make is how TERRIBLE the friendly A.I. is. Although it is better then other games, sometimes your partners actions leaving you questioning if this is supposed to be a punishment for choosing to play by yourself. I would not recommend attempting this solo. I did complete the game solo, I would warn against it. Unless of course you are a masochist like me.

Save your money, get something else instead.

i would give this game a 10 out of 10 has good graphics and gameplay but not so much a horror game more of a action game.
bought this so my sister and i would have something to play on xbox when i got home from college. even she loves it.
Many Resident Evil fans saw a drastic change in style and gameplay when RE4 was released for Gamecube and later for the Wii. So it stands to reason that the sequel for a new generation of consoles would continue that upward trend that has been established. It does.

Start up Resident Evil 5 and the first thing you'll notice is the amazing graphics. The character and environment detail are among the best availible for 360 today. Rather than feeling like you're in a restrictive space, you do feel like you're walking through a realistic setting.

The over-the-shoulder style first seen in RE4 is brought back again. And for a pleasing change of pace, your partner Sheva is actually helpful rather than a child you need to babysit. She does have a tentancy to waste ammo on enemies, but for the most part, Sheva can really help you out of a bind sometimes and also gives you ammo if you're ever in need.

The game is challenging, but not to the point the it decreases the level of enjoyment. A major difference between RE4 and the sequel is that RE5 is a very progressive game and rarely has you double back and return to ground you've already covered. This makes for less time spent finding key cards and trying to unlock doors. The story unfolds like a well written movie and forces you to guess as to how the game/movie will end.

This may be one of the best games available for Xbox 360 today. The game offers a lot of gameplay hours and plenty of replay value. Pick up a copy of this game!

(A must have (My review mainly is of the Gamecube-remake))

(How very disapointing)

(Do not like the controls or camera)

(Not the same as RE4)

(480p capable REmake !)
For those who don't know, this is a rerelease of the Gamecube remake of Resident Evil released in 2002. A remake of the remake if you like. To me this is one of the greatest games of all time. So many times while playing the original on PS1 (a classic) i have kept thinking how awesome it would be to play the same game with the same story, but with up-to-date graphics, sound and gameplay. Here you have it. The best of two worlds if you like. Even the Gamecube remake is getting old nowadays, but the difference in games(graphics, gameplay etc.) between 1996 and 2002 is much, much bigger than the difference between 2002 and 2009. Worth every dime. Highly recommended. The only thing this game is missing are some new features since the GC edition. Like the ability to play as Albert Wesker and some new weapons. I would have loved to see the SPAS 12, MP5 and M4 Carbine in this game.

PS: Things like this should be done much more often. Upgraded versions of your favorite games from the past. That would please millions of gaming-nostalgics around the world. Imagine a game like "Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight" for Amiga with todays graphics/gameplay etc., or any other for that matter. I wish:-)

Well I 1st bought wii to increase my activity level ;) ...then I bought Resident Evil 4 and put that far behind me. I had such high hopes that even though this was a new spin on the original it would incorporate those things that I loved with RE4. Like others have mentioned though the wii remote really does not come into play here. It took awhile for me to get comfortable with the controls vs. RE4 feeling quite natural. I really do not see the benefit yet to using the wii remote. The camera angles are terrible at times, and quite often I find myself in a position where I cannot see who/what I'm fighting. Also, there is a serious lack of ammo. Personally I'd rather shoot a zombie rather then run away from it, but oh well. So far I cannot see any replay value as I'm just playing it to finish it, hopefully I'll be surprised though. Had I waited to read reviews vs. prematurely ordering just based on the title I would have saved some $ and frustration. Lesson learned.
The controls feel completely inverted in this game and cannot be corrected. Plus, the camera is often too far away. In my first battle I couldn't even see what I or the zombie was doing. Even Umbrella Chronicles is WAY better than this. House of the Dead also a better game. I'd like to give it more time but these controls really hurt my brain.
Awful. If you are expecting a "Resident Evil 4" type game then you better wait. The controls are nowhere near as intuitive as RE4. No first/third person shooter here. Another oddity, I can't even get the game to play on one of my consoles. Save your money. Hopefully you'll have a friend that bought this and will simply give it to you in disgust just to have it out of their collection.
Here some tips:

>it supports 480p resolution :) (gamecube only 480i)
>Wiimote Only OR Wiimote + Nunchuck OR Classic Controller OR Gamecube Controller
>No changes at all vs game cube version
>One Disc Only (vs two disc gamecube version) :)

(Classy!)

(It has been mis-subtitled "A ghost hunting adventure")

(My favorite game)

(Compelling!)

(The Lost Crown)
As usual I read the other reviews of anything I review-and as usual I was amazed at the variety of reactions. But the gamut of emotions involved among any group of interviewers is usually pretty wide, covering everything from bliss to boredom to even outrage. "The Lost Crown" is no exception. But the Crown is a fine performance, mainly because of the superb black and white graphics with splashes of eerie color, and an intriguing plot and a lusciously creepy atmosphere. There are so many sensitive little touches, such as a dragonfly hovering or dandelion seeds blowing in the wind. There is constantly something to look at and observe. You can't just sit there and click: you have to peer around all the time or you'll miss something vital and if you miss a vital "trigger" you cannot proceed.

I agree with others that Nigel is a bit clunky and slow-moving but I like him. In this game I move along as ponderously as he does as I like to immerse myself in the plot, imbibe the atmosphere, and smell the roses- slowly. "The Lost Crown" is a very long, complicated game and while not exactly scary it is creepy enough to titillate and interesting enough to keep you hanging in there.

"Crown" is a class act. But prepare to spend a lot of time in Saxton among the reeds and the dank caverns and the sullen ocean waves. You'll meet the often strange local characters and eerie ghosts, commingled in a rich, atmospheric stew. Highly recommended.

It's a treasure hunting adventure with ghosts - or whatever they are - helping (and hindering) your progress. Some of the ghosts have nothing to do with the hunt - they just add interest to the story.

The look of the game is how I imagine dogs see the world. Sharply defined shades of gray with occasional splashes of color. The blue sky on May Day was quite a shocker. I remember staring at it like I had never seen it before. Perhaps that was the point. A close examination of the different frames indicates the scenes depicted are meant to be taken as if they were photos in an album. Two are torn, and one has stains on it. There may be other anomalies I missed. [If you are curious, the torn ones are both at churches. One is on the way to Northside Church when you first enter the graveyard. Nigel(our hero)walks behind the tear. The other tear is at the back of Ulcombe Church on the way to the shed. On this one, the lighting looks different between the two pieces. Nigel walks behind this one, also.]

This is a long game. I think I believed, three times, I was near the end, just to find something that opened a whole new section of the story. I was getting anxious because the fan was going out on my video card. It increased the excitement level quite a bit. When it started to smell hot, I had to stop the game and switch video cards. That is when the problems started. I started getting weird video corruption on the save/restore screen, and the game locked up once. The first card was an FX5500 nVidia; the second was Radeon 9550. (Yes, I tried different drivers. Didn't help. I think ATI cards just don't work well with my motherboard)

Still, it was a good game. Definitely the best of the series of games involving Matt Clark and Jonathon Boakes. It's a much roomier game than the Dark Falls or Barrow Hill. And it takes place mostly in the day, though it does cycle through day and night sequences. There isn't a great deal of difference between day and night, since the sky is dark and stormy during the day. But it doesn't have the claustrophobic feeling of the other games where you are constantly stumbling around in the dark.

The voice acting is actually quite good. Nigel has an odd rhythm to his speech, like: "How would you like .........to have a vigil?" You get used to it. The rest of the sound is done much better than the previous Jonathon Boakes Games, and is especially effective on headphones.

Oddities in the game.

At one point in the game you are on the hills above the town, and take a photograph of some flowers. Later, this photograph serves in place of the flowers - but since you had to walk right up to the original flowers to take the picture, why not just pick the flowers?

There is a lot of dragonfly imagery in the game. There are large, green dragonflies everywhere. You can even follow one for several frames in "The Fens". All the confirmation screens in the game have a dragonfly on them. A dragonfly picture appears in Nigel's dreams twice. Yet, there is nothing in the story having anything to do with dragonflies. Baffling. (additonal reflection has led me to believe the dragonflies are Hadden Industries remote recording devices)

Nigel has several gadgets for detecting paranormal activity. Yet, when he is speaking face to face with an actual ghost, none of the equipment registers anything.

Strange things about the game

The first problem was with directx 9.0c. On my XP box, 9.0c is already running, but the game would not run until I let the installer "update my directx files". Just let it. It doesn't hurt anything, and the game won't run without the update.

The game uses the Wintermute engine, and is very slow on save/restore. It is also slow returning control to the mouse on scene changes.

There is an update to the game that fixes "inventory problems and other game playabilty features". It's for the US release version only. The installer is insane. It is a 4.52Meg file that "installs" a 294K file. The installer tells you it will install to the default folder, unless you changed the original folder, in which case you will have to specify the path. The path shown is blank. If you click continue, it tells you to specify a path. If you use the Browse button to lead it to the default folder it was supposed to find on its own, it adds New Folder to the end of the path and installs the file (uselessly) in that folder. The only way to make the patch work is to Browse to the path, remove the New Folder, and force it to accept the "default path". Then it will say, "The folder already exists. Are you sure you wish to write to this folder?" Say Yes, and it will, FINALLY, update the game by overwriting the understudy.dhp file with a newer version.

Whenever Jonathan Boakes and Matt Clark get together and make a game, they make a really good one. The Dark Falls, Barrow Hill, and now this - their best yet. I enjoyed it more than any game I've played in years.
This is one of the best adventure games I've played. The emphasis of this game is the unfolding of a rich, multi-layered story rather than tough puzzles and dealing with "dying" and "second chances. The story is set in a very picturesque fishing town of Saxton. This virtual town is appealing and I found myself wishing I could visit such a place in real life. I was delighted to learn about a quarter of the way through the game that various villages in Cornwall were used as inspiration. In fact, much of the buildings are actual places in Polperro. The characters are interesting and, yes, there is horror. But, it is intelligent horror with meaning and purpose. There is "right" and "wrong" and our alter-ego, Nigel Danvers, must learn from his mistakes. Some of the ghost stories are very sad and touching. The story has many levels, twists and turns. In the end, I wanted more and was glad for having been on the journey.

Now, for some criticism: First, The interface of the game is very slow and cumbersome. There are tarot cards that flippy-flop to eerie music for loading and saving a game. There are annoying graphics and logos that you have to sit through as you exit the game. Second, the manner in which Nigel Danvers navigates around the environment is extremely complicated. Less posing would be much appreciated. It seemed to take forever for Nigel to stop moving and the arrow/cursor to return. Another annoying feature is the over-repetitive dialogue. I really did get tired of hearing "nothing ventured" everytime Nigel passed through the cave.

All in all, I look forward to a sequel for The Lost Crown...Hopefully, with a faster interface.

The Game wouldn't load after half a dozen attempts. Attempts at contact with the manufacturer was pointless. I ended up returning it and will make a point of never buying another product made by "Got Game Entertainment".
Nigel Danvers is on the run - two shadowy agents are on his tail, pursuing him across London to the grand train station at Liverpool Street. Nigel suspects that the afternoon's activities may be to blame! Travel with Nigel Danvers to an eerie seaside town on England's east coast. Learn to use advanced techniques used by real paranormal investigators, and uncover an ancient mystery and treasure. But, beware, not all of the towns residents will help in your mission, whether they are alive or dead. Inspiration from the haunting works of Charles Dickens, M.R. James, Arthur Conan Doyle, and E.F. Benson combines with real ghost-hunting gadgets to bring this frightening story to bone-chilling life. Success or failure in locating wandering spirits depends on your skill as an investigator. Placing motion detectors, night vision cameras, and temperature gauges correctly will reveal a location's haunted past, and expose terrifying apparitions. With nerves of steel, and wits to match, you will soon discover long lost secrets, previously known only to the dead!

(Horrible, Horrible game play and the rest is even worse ...)

(Good, with a few setbacks, but still a great game.)

(Warning: Bad console port!)

(Case study in potential ruination with bad controls)

(Amazing Graphics, Terrible Gameplay)
Now the guy who coded the physics should be centenced to keep 100 feet away from any programmable equipment (that includes microwaves, alarm clocks, mobile phones etc.) in order not to cause any other person to get online at this hour of the night on Amazon and leave such a comment in absolute fury! I didn't pay money to be tamed to learn how to deal with this awful user interface, so called physics and horrible controls! I didn't pay any money to repeat the same routine for over 6 or 7 times just because I can not understand how the wierd physics work in the game. After a couple of times it is no fun anymore and just because I couldn't do all the terrible stuff that I am asked to perform in a mind boggling precision, it shouldn't keep me away from playing the rest of the game. The money I have paid is for the whole game, not till the first failure of the physics and the user interface! These guys should be ashamed of themselves and leave this line of bussiness gracefully otherwise the only thing that they can do with their "title" is to sit at a bar and try to impress girls by calling themselves "programmers" which they are far from it.
Alone in the dark was different for me, as I have never played any other in the series. I was expecting something much different since I played the Wii version before, which sucked.

Gameplay- Playing the game involves some cool puzzles, but some areas are frustrating! (one are I spent around an hour on even though it lasted only a few minutes, it was the first major driving scene). One interesting aspect is that the standard enemies (I saw them called humanz in a walkthrough) can only be killed by fire (with the stronger ones requiring more fire introduced before dying). The driving aspect of the game is cool, as the physics aren't the most realistic, but thats not really a bad aspect of a game which most of the game is spent on foot. The game is different from other survival horror games because you get more than enough ammo, so you can be creative (shooting doors apart when you dont have time for example). The healing system is cool, I like the difference from when it is a small wound or a bleeding one (which can only be treated with the rare bandage, and you leave a blood trail which attracts monsters). The 3rd person cam is almost impossible to use, so I go to my preferred view of first person.

Graphics- Not the best, but they are good enough for me to get an easy grasp on the world around me, and also good enough to look into detail on objects. The fire doesn't look the best, but we have been spoiled with games like Far Cry 2 and such (both games have fire which spreads realistically, but Far Cry has better graphics, being newer).

Features- items play a large role in this game, and with a limited inventory (nope, no more carrying 1 ton with elder scrolls, still that is a good game series though, elder scrolls) you must decide what you most need, whether you use your flashlight and need batteries, or you load up on ammunition. The game also uses combining items as an important feature, such as moving a the liquid from a 3/10 full bottle to a 7/10 full bottle for a full bottle that is more explosive (when shot or used as a molotov). Also, you can use the liquid on explosive bottles to pour on you ammunition giving you 1 clip load of incendiary rounds (as in they damage those humanz, if you shoot em in the right place, or they set a wooden object on fire from far away) which arent realistic, but they are awesome!

In conclusion, alone in the dark 5 is a great game with a few flaws that require patience, the tab key, and maybe a walkthrough (which won't ruin the game... they never get it thorough enough to do THAT).

Do not waste your time. This thing SCREAMS "bad console port". While the controls supposedly support both first-person and third-person views, the first-person one only lacks visible duct-tape to show how badly it was grafted on. If you try to use first-person view, it automatically switches you to third-person view at the worst possible time (like when you are in a fight). In some cases, it won't even allow you to switch back to first-person view until you solve the current puzzle or win the fight you are in. The controls are just plain bad. Want to use the standard "WASL" keys to move around? Sorry, those only work in third-person view! So, when it switches view for you, YOUR CURRENT MOVEMENT KEYS STOP WORKING!

Don't even get me started on the difficulty of dragging bodies around, which you are required to do to kill them. Or the time the bad guy got stuck INSIDE A WALL, WHICH MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TO KILL HIM! I had to go back to the last FIXED save point and start the encounter all over again. Oh, I didn't mention the supposed quick-save doesn't actually save you where you are, but back at the last "planned" save point? Um, neither does the manual.

There are many other bad points to this game, but I have already wasted enough time just trying to play it. Save your money. Buy something else.

This is a very memorable game for me. It's the only game that I actually quit playing because of the bad controls. I almost gave up on Shadow of the Colossus because of crap controls, but at least there was somewhat of a payoff for muddling through. Not here. Classic case of development culture ignoring the value of "average joe" usability testing. I bet when they finally did get to external user testing and realized "oohhhhhh crap", the shrink wrap machine was already heating up.
You can just tell that this game was ported to PC (very badly) from the console games. The keys are so random and most cannot be configured. You cannot strafe unless in the first person view, but the first person view doesn't allow you to do much of anything except walking, and within a few seconds the game will switch you back to the third person view. I usually stick with a game even if it doesn't seem great, but I barely played this for a half hour before I quit. The first 15 minutes or so of the game require you to press a key to blink every few seconds or your vision gets blurred, which makes it extremely hard to pay attention to the story line. The only plus was that the graphics look amazing, especially the detail of people's faces.
Alone in the Dark, the video game that launched survival gaming and set the standard within the genre, returns with an extraordinary action-packed within a highly detailed, free-roaming environment, featuring a mixture of astonishing real-time physics and full environmental interaction.
There's something strange and frightening happening in the middle of New York City's Central Park; something whispered to have been intentionally kept secret; something that players are compelled to explore inAlone in the Dark.

Known today as a safe haven for New Yorkers yearning for relief from the stresses of their chaotic metropolis, history records that Central Park was built on a useless swamp, yet as the New York City skyline hurtled towards the sky over the last 150 years, making the city the most expensive real estate in the world, the park has remained untouched. Why? Civic pride? Perhaps, but the recent strange happenings in and around the park are casting doubt on that, doubts that require investigating.

Enter Edward Carnby, Paranormal Investigator
Despite the title,Alone in the Darkis actually the fifth game in a series that dates back to 1992 and centers around the experiences of Edward "the reptile" Carnby. A paranormal investigator by trade, Carnby is looking for answers to the strange events and horrific creatures reported in and around the park, but gets more than he bargained for when all the mysteries and terrors of the park spill out over the course of one apocalyptic night. It's the player's task to avoid the new frightening dangers of the park as you search for the answers to what these supernatural occurrences mean and why they are happening.

Gameplay Based on Full Player Immersion
Packed full of action and vivid in its realismAlone in the Darkgoes to the extreme to keep players engaged and immersed by plunging them into the heart of the action in real-time at every turn and challenging them to survive using full movement control. The goal here is to allow players to do or at least feel that they can do more or less whatever is possible in real life, within the game.

Need to avoid a blast of steam or an eruption of fire that has shot up in your path? You can simply side-step it or you can handle the obstacle with a little more panache by using the environment around you, for example by swinging around it using reachable pipes or wires. In another situation you may be challenged by attacking monsters. No problem. You can take the path of least resistance, again by side-stepping them or placing an obstacle between yourself and them, but if you are feeling like taking out a little aggression you can pick up a board, chair, box, etc. and have at it. Nearly anything that you come across that would be usable in real life is usable in game and can be wielded in several different ways.

In addition, game developer Eden Studios has done away with a few in-game conventions in favor of real life upgrades. Instead of old-fashioned health barsAlone in the Darkuses realistic body damage and physiological effects to show players how much damage has been done to Carnby by the new dangerous nightlife of Central Park. Basically this means if Carnby has been taking a licking he's going to be a little bloody. Monsters use sensory perception of all kinds to find their victims, so players need to keep aware of Carnby's physical state, as well as the impact he has on his surroundings. Also gone are traditional inventory systems that take players out of the game while you switch or check items in your possession, replaced by an in-game inventory system where items are carried in the folds of Carnby's trench coat. This allows you to stay in the action the whole time. Sticking with the realism theme, the number of items that Carnby can carry is limited, but since ingenuity is built into the system, items can be combined or their uses altered, mostly with tape, so players can adjust as challenges arise.

TV Style Intensity That Keeps You Hooked
Built around a unique television style episodic narrative game structure, the storyline ofAlone in the Darkis split into a number of distinct 30-40 minute episodes, doled out one at a time as you play. This new way to progress through the storyline ensures that players can enjoy the game regardless of the amount of time they have available without ever feeling lost. Each time a saved game is launched, the episode will begin with a video summary of the previous episode to quickly re-immerse the player in the story, removing the need to remember where you were or what you were doing at the end of your last play session. In addition, every episode will also close with a nail-biting, cliff-hanger ending to rattle players' nerves. And when you choose to leave the game, a video teaser of the next episode will play to leave players always wanting more.

Vivid Photographic Rendering
Even on a bad day, and this will be a bad one, Central Park and New York City are something to see. With Game developer Eden's proprietary Twilight technology and rendering engine, players can expect to see everything from the City's famous landmarks to the manifestations of the evil that have been festering in Central Park come to life as if you were there. This lavishly detailed game world takes advantage of highly realistic and advanced cinematographic effects including depth of field, camera focus, numerous light sources, moisture, reflections and High Dynamic Range effects.

Whether it's the innovative game play, the unique episodic game structure, the advanced physics or the return of a ground-breaking protagonist recast in the modern era,Alone in the Darkholds something for players willing to take on the mysteries and dangers at the heart of Central Park.

(Nothing Shocking)
I'm not too impressed with the second installment in the Shellshock series. The moment a quick time event popped up on the screen, I said to myself, "this is not good." There are moments when an enemy will attack you and you are required to press the WASD keys in proper order to fend off the attack. I hate this feature!

The gun play is pretty good most of the time, but there are times when aiming can be a hassle (your reticle sort of sways in the wind). Graphics are decent, but nothing to write home about. The horror element is there (somewhere). For example, as you're moving about various buildings you can hear babies crying. Then all of a sudden you hear a loud bang and the crying stops. A bit disturbing.

There's no online activation and the only DRM I can see is a disc check. This is a situation where you definitely are getting what you pay for ($30). No multiplayer component, it's all about the single player experience. Unfortunately, you don't get much.

War is hell, and the ShellShock franchise delivers gamers to the deepest circles of this hell with the series' second brutal and twisted psychological first person shooter experience. At the height of the Vietnam War, a covert ops cargo plane carrying a top-secret consignment known only as 'Whiteknight' is lost over the deepest, uncharted jungles. Special Ops soldiers are immediately dispatched to the scene to retrieve the top secret shipment and one-by-one they disappear without a trace ... until one month later, one of them suddenly walks out of the jungle. Crazed and deranged, something in the jungle had ripped out his humanity, poisoning his soul. Something in the darkness had driven him mad ... and followed him out. Taking the first-person war game and turning it on its head, Shellshock 2: Blood Trails places you in a war where fear takes on a whole new meaning.
