(Underworld: The saga begins)
『5 of 5 stars for the vampire and werewolf movie Underworld. I've seen this movie several times and continue to be amazed and the plot and visual look of the movie. Wow. I keep finding new subtle things in the movie overlooked in my first viewing. This movie is the starter for a 3 movie collection. Telling some of the history and moving forward with this story. Underworld and Underworld Evolution move the story further in time while the third movie tells the history of how we got here.

The story is about two races of beings, the upper class Vampires and the worker class Werewolves. In the old times, the races lived together in harmony, now they are at war. This story focuses on "a human" who we later learn has characteristics of both races and his blood is valuable to both races. Of course, our lead character (Kate Beckinsale) needs the help of a sleeping vampire lord. A very impressive movie with stunning visual look. Once you finish Underworld, keep on going with Evolution and Rise of the Lycans. Highly recommended and added to my list of favorite movies.』

(AN ENTHRALLING VAMPIRE EPIC 9 OUT OF 10)
『When the people of today rave about cinematic failures like Twilight, you can't help but wonder, "What the hell is wrong with you people?" Why aren't you people watching 'real' vampire films that are actually entertaining, like the Underworld trilogy? You mean to tell me you'd trade awesome characters who are armed to teeth for emo pansies like the Twilight characters? Shame, shame. There were some people (Including moronic critics) who said that the Underworld series is boring, and yet they raved about Twilight. Here's my opinion for why I think the Underworld series is infinitely superior to Twilight in every way.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: Centuries ago, a conflict began between aristocratic vampires called Death Dealers and Lycans (Werewolves who can become human again) which still continues into modern societies. We are then introduced to the sexy Death Dealer, Selene who centuries ago was turned into a vampire by the leader of the vampires; Viktor, who raised her like his daughter. And then after an intense gun battle scene, we are introduced to Michael Corvin, who is being hunted by the Lycans over the fact his bloodline goes back to the Corvinus (The father of both vampire and Lycan bloodlines) line, which means he is the only person in existence who can be both a vampire and a Lycan. So when Selene investigates why the Lycans are after Michael, both are pulled into a dangerous adventure full of hidden secrets, forbidden love, and a lot of intense, bloody action scenes. The plot for the most part is good, but it doesn't seem to go as far as it could have.
MUSIC: The music in this film is great, and never fails to set the mood and entertain. I have no gripes with this area.
ACTION: This film is loaded with many gun and sword fights, which come with many explosions and lots of blood and gore. Any action fan should have no problem enjoying this film because it rocks. You won't find this action in a pansy, emo, sappy, teen drama vampire tale like Twilight! A true splendor of awesome bloody violence.
ACTING: Some people said the acting and dialogue in this film is bad. What bad acting and dialogue? These actors are great, unlike the 1-dimensional, cardboard actors of Twilight. Kate Beckinsale is a great actress and pulls of her role as a vampire action heroine very well. I have no gripes with the other actors either, as they perform their roles superbly as well.
OVERALL: Forget cinematic monstrosities like Twilight which are an insult to vampire films, and watch Underworld instead! This is an awesome action epic that both girls and guys alike can get into. If you're an action fan or a fan of 'real' vampire films and you're tired of the stupid Twilight craze, pick this one (Along with the other two) up as well.
THE GOOD: Lots of bloody mayhem, great acting, great music, and a fairly good plot.
THE BAD: Plot doesn't go as far as it could have.』

(One of my favorites)
『This is one of my favorites and best vampire movies. There are a few flaws to the movie but can be over looked. In one's opinion vampires are stronger or just as strong as Lykens. Some of the elder vampires seems frail in this movie. But that can be over looked with cool scenes and a great story line.』

(Under World)
『LYKANS versus VAMPIRES:

The Vampires like to read and write, wherefore they are rich.
Whereas the werewolves (the Lykans), like art (especially, in the
form of graffiti, or tattoos). The Lykans, are essentially illiterate.
They hang out in the subways, where the graffiti is, and the males
might walk around without any clothes on, like professional
football players in locker rooms. Werewolves find clothing
cumbersome. The Lykans ("like us but not us"), are barbarians
compared to the Vampires, the Aristocrats, the "sophisticated
connoiseurs". The vampires live in ornate luxury, but their primary
passion is books. When she looks in the mirror, the steam rises,
and she writes the name of her "protector", Victor, on the surface of
the mirror. Whose child she is defines her, rather than her own
image in the mirror, which she seems to ignore, as if she doesn't
see it. The Vampires abhor graven images. The Vampires are "the
Jews who are Jews", whereas the Lykans are "the Jews who are
not Jews". See, Exodus 20:1-6, KJV.

Michael Corvins is bitten by a Lykan, but though he be a "Jew
who is not a Jew", he is not of the synagogue of satan. He is a
caring physician. Physician, heal thyself. The head Vampire wants
Michael Corvins destroyed, for he sees Corvins as an abomination.
This individual who is able to read and write, but also likes art,
graven images, such as those found in medical textbooks. In
contrast, the Lykan scientist, uses schematics, and visuals to help him
aid in his research. He peers through microscopes and looks at blood
in vials, and a tree diagram with collected photographs, on a wall.
You never see the Lykan scientist reading a book.

In a sense, the hybrid, Corvins, is like a Roman Catholic who also
reads the Bible (KJV), for himself, and seeks to end the feud
between Catholics and Protestants. Why cannot we have both, a KJV
and a Rosary, he seems to say to them. But for the head vampire, the
paintings of Michaelangelo upon the Sistine Chapel, are blasphemy,
whilst the Lykans do not wish to learn to read "Shakespeare"....Too
hard, for them. The Vampires surround themsleves with Gothic
Architecture, but no art, aside from diagrams found in books, which
they are forbidden to look at, for to peer into the past is forbidden.
Crucify the old man. Graven images are snares. Lykans and Vampires,
don't get along.

The Vampires are fanatical about religion, maintaining,
striving after, PURITY, whereas the Lykans feel that rules
and rituals get in the way, especially if you do not
understand them. Catholics do not read the Bible (KJV),
and Protestants do not meditate upon the Rosary, but it would
be too simplistic to say the Lykans represent Protestants and
the Vampires represent Catholics. For the Lykans are into
tatoos, art, and the Vampires are not. Rather this is a case
of "a plague hath both your houses, they have made worm's
meat of me" (from Shakespeare's, Romeo and Juliet).

To fight the world, you need to clothe yourself, with special armour.
OF means FROM, or BELONGING TO. There is no "belt of truth", that's
Wonder Woman's thing. The loins of a man are at his sides, above his
pelvis, and below his rib cage. Gird up the loins of your mind; Gird your
loins with Truth, (A cummerbund is a loincloth): See, Ephesians 6: 11-16;
1 Peter 1:13-16, KJV. Can armour be worn underneath clothing, like
underwear? Yes, if it is invisible.

Under the surface of the world, there is a war going on...The Church is
in the world, but the Church is not of the world. Will there be peace?
A KJV Bible in one hand, and a Rosary in the other, is like a vaccine
that must be taken twice in order to be effective. But who can tell which
is the One True Rosary? Michael Corvins, the good physician? His blood,
is it True Blue? The Lykans tell him, he's one of them, after all, his blood
looks red, there in that vial, mixed with water. But some things are
invisible. God is Love. See, Leviticus 17:11; John 6:63; Hebrews 11:27, KJV.

This movie echoes a sentiment found in Fritz Lang's work, Metropolis:
Without the heart there can be no understanding between the hand and the
mind.』

(Great Reference Movie for showing off BD&Sound)
『Hello

I've watched all three movies in SD and HD on the Dish. We have the newest title on BD and after reading the reviews of both BD and DVD version I decided to grab this in Blu-Ray. The reviews I've read both pro and casual pretty much sum up my thoughts, this is a very good transfer in both image and sound. Let me break it down into two groups....

Image and visual - With the "Underworld" series don't expect a dazzeling colorful display. Instead it's a world of darks and grey with a touch of gothic appeal. While for some that may not be such a good thing it does show a great deal of contrast involving blacks against skin tones. And this is where this movie shines above all others. It has a great blend with surprising detail in this contrast especially with Kate Beckinsale dressed in black leather, with pitch black hair and a pale skin face. But it's all thruout the movie from the buildings, stone, chains, the rainy weather; the whole Underworld experience really shows up well with it's black&grey theme.

Sound - I was really surprised how well the DD 5.1 track did on this. Most will say, "oh well it's a gun battle here and there and what do you expect". Well that's just it, there's allot more. It's basically everywhere from the rain falling, to metal locks turning, splashes of water while running thru it, chains clanging and so on. One particular scene involved one Vampire with two whips lashing out at a Werewolf coming at him. It was if the whips were snapping back&forth side-to-side. And yes there are gun battles and plenty of them. The low end gets about an average workout but this is not Saving Private Ryan. It would've been extra icing if there was a DTS track.

Overall I would grade this close to "Reference Quality" for showing off BD and Sound. The high level of contrast with blacks and skin detail makes this a BD Standout. Sound wise a excellent choice for those who enjoy action and want it loud. Highly Recommended』

BlademeetsThe CrowandThe MatrixinUnderworld, a hybrid thriller that rewrites the rulebook on werewolves and vampires. It's a "cuisinart" movie (blend a lot of familiar ideas and hope something interesting happens) in which immortal vampire "death dealers" wage an ancient war against "Lycans" (werewolves), who've got centuries of revenge--and some rather ambitious genetic experiments--on their lycanthropic agenda. Given his preoccupation with gloomy architecture (mostly filmed in Budapest, Hungary), frenetic mayhem and gothic costuming, it's no surprise that first-time director Len Wiseman gained experience in TV commercials and the art departments ofGodzilla,Men in Black, andIndependence Day. His work is all surface, no substance, filled with derivative, grand-scale action as conflicted vampire Selene (Kate Beckinsale, who later became engaged to Wiseman) struggles to rescue an ill-fated human (Scott Speedman) from Lycan transformation. It's great looking all the way, and a guaranteed treat for horror buffs, who will eagerly dissect its many strengths and weaknesses.--Jeff Shannon
『In the Underworld Vampires are a secret clan of modern aristocratic sophisticates whose mortal enemies are the Lycans (werewolves) a shrewd gang of street thugs who prowl the city s underbelly. No one knows the origin of their bitter blood feud but the balance of power between them turns even bloodier when a beautiful young Vampire warrior and a newly-turned Lycan with a mysterious past fall in love. Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman star in this modern-day action-packed tale of ruthless intrigue and forbidden passion all set against the dazzling backdrop of a timeless Gothic metropolis.System Requirements:Running Time: 121 Min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: ACTION/ADVENTURE Rating: R UPC: 043396031524 Manufacturer No: 03152』

(Russ' Underworld Evolution)
『This Underworld is THE must own out of the set of three! Kate Beckinsale is at her all time smokingest hottest! Scott Speedman's Hybrid is superb! And well Marcus' character is everything you want from a vilan! Action is incredible a perfect run time movie. You never sit there and say how much more could they do here, wondering when it'll end. Loved every second! Since I purchased have watched probably min. 5 times! A+++++』

(AN AWESOME SEQUEL 9 OUT OF 10)
『This film unfortunately, was the least liked of the trilogy. Personally I think it's almost as good as the first film. Like the first film, you should watch this and ignore everything to do with Twilight (If anything, that will rot your brain and degrade your intelligence). This is a 'real' vampire film, and not an incompetent and poorly made teen drama with no substance and a pansy emo as the main character.
WHAT IT'S ABOUT: We are reintroduced to Selene and Michael (Who is now part Lycan and part vampire), who are now on the run from the remaining vampires including a vampire named Marcus (Who takes over after Viktor's death in the previous film) who is angry and is out to find his Lycan (werewolf) brother and free him. Now Selene and Michael must find Corvinus (The father of both vampires and Lycans) and find a way to end this never-ending conflict between the Lycans and vampires and defeat Marcus and his brother. Like the first film, the story wasn't taken as far as it could have gone.
MUSIC: I have never seen a film in which Marco Beltrami's music disappointed me, and this film is no exception. This music always sets the mood and flows quite nicely throughout.
ACTION: This film is even bloodier than the first film and there's even more shootout scenes, a treat for any action fan. This film gets the adrenaline pumping and never lets up until the end. Another area that this film succeeds in, while Twilight fails spectacularly in comparison.
ACTING: Unfortunately, the acting in this film isn't as good as its predecessor. The main actors are great like Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman, but there are points in which the other actors aren't quite as believable or there's some cheesy dialogue. For the most part, the acting is good, but there are some actors who aren't as good as the others. However, even the not-so-great actors look Academy Award-winning in comparison to Twilight's actors.
OVERALL: This film serves as an excellent sequel to an already excellent predecessor. There's more action and more blood this time around, and it shouldn't disappoint action fans looking for a good time. Again, ignore Twilight at all costs because it's an insult to all vampire films and will make you dumber. It pales in comparison to this great film.
THE GOOD: More bloody action, great music, good actors, and a solid storyline.
THE BAD: Storyline didn't go as far as it could have, and there moment of cheesy dialogue.』

(Superb Follow Up to "Underworld")
『What can I say? This is pretty much the perfect movie. There are a couple of scenes towards the middle that I found pretty useless (a "nearly nude" sex scene, and then a couple glimpses of a not so discreet one) but these are brief and can be skipped. The writing is tight, the pacing is perfect and the action is downright incredible. I found this movie satisfying and entertaining in every way.

(Oh, and kudos to Marco Beltrami on creating a far superior score to Haslinger's original.)』

(Underworld Evolution)
『Bought this movie on Amazon Market place used. Good Movie quick service good quality. Would recommend this to any SCI FI fan.』

(Underworld Entertainment)
『The great special effects in this DVD make for some very entertaining viewing. The costumes are LA OK. Vampire and werewolf (lycans) special effects...make up for some of the costumes.

Tony Curran, as Marcus, delivered a formidable performance, and so did Derick Jacobi, as the father of all vampires. The action sequences are very fine...making up for the rudimentary plot. This is very entertaining in a high action vampire/werewolf kind of way.

『Better action, a bit of sex, and gorier R-rated violence makeUnderworld: Evolutiona reasonably satisfying sequel to 2003's surprise hitUnderworld. Looking stunning as ever in her black leather battle gear, Kate Beckinsale is every goth guy's fantasy as Selene, the vampire "death dealer" who's now fighting to stop the release of the original "Lycan" werewolf, William (Brian Steele) from the prison that's held him for centuries. As we learn from the film's action-packed prologue, William and his brother Marcus (Tony Curran) began the bloodline of vampires and werewolves, and after witnessing centuries of warfare between them, their immortal father Corvinus (Derek Jacobi) now seeks Selene and the human vampire/lycan hybrid Michael (Scott Speedman) to put an end to the war perpetuated by Victor (Bill Nighy), the vampire warrior whose betrayal of Selene turnsUnderworld: Evolutioninto an epic tale of familial revenge. This ambitious attempt at Shakespearean horror is compromised by a script (by Danny McBride and returning director Len Wiseman, Beckinsale's real-life husband) that's more confusing than it needs to be, with too many characters and not enough storytelling detail to flesh them all out. Aspiring to greatness and falling well short of that goal,Underworld: Evolutionsucceeds instead as a full-throttle action/horror thriller, with enough swordplay, gunplay, and CGI monsters to justify the continuation of theUnderworldfranchise. If you're an established fan, this is a must-see movie; if not, well... at least it's better thanVan Helsing!--Jeff Shannon

(offbeat chiller favourite)
『Classic horror movies rarely get wackier than SON OF DRACULA, Universal's offbeat chiller from 1943 starring Lon Chaney Jr. and Louise Allbritton.

Katherine Caldwell (Allbritton), a wealthy Southern heiress with morbid fixations, decides to marry card-carrying vampire Count Alucard (Lon Chaney Jr.) despite the objections of her boyfriend and family. Of course, the Count's true motive is to re-establish his reign of terror in a new country. The performances of "Wolf Man" Lon Chaney Jr. and Louise Allbritton (who seems to relish her part as the off-kilter heiress) save this film from total failure. Scream queen favourite Evelyn Ankers also has a substantial role.』

(Like Father, Like Son)
『This movie is one hour and twenty minutes long and was release on November 5, 1943. This was the first Dracula movie to show transfermation of bat to vampire and vampire to bat. This is a great movie to watch. Mainly for the special effects as I mention above. Even this ones die differently. Dracula One dies with a stake through the heart, his daughter; an arrow through the heart, and Junior's coffin is set on fire and he dies by daylight. I guess sun cancer can kill you after all. Also Dracula get married in this one; though we don't get to see it in the movie. With the exception of the title, it is not once revealed that Prince Alucard is Dracula's son. The location for Son of Dracula is set somewhere in the south. The reason for Prince Alucard coming to the United States is Transylvania is running low on fresh victims, where as the Unites States is a young country and full of blood donors. I would recommend this movie to anyone.』

(DRACULA SPELLED BACKWARDS IS ALUCARD!)
『This is the third tale from Universal Studios involving Dracula or a descendant of. Though not as interesting a "Dracula's Daughter" the biggest problem with this film is getting used to Chaney Jr. as Dracula! Chaney Jr. is too big and clumsy for this role but, I have to give him credit as he is the only horror icon from Universal to play all the top monsters at one time or another. He played the Wolfman(The Wolfman, Frankenstein meets the Wolfman,House of Frankenstein, House of Dracula, Abbott&Costello meet Frankenstein), Frankenstein's Monster(The Ghost of Frankenstein), The Mummy(The Mummy's Tomb, The Mummy's Ghost, The Mummy's Curse) and Dracula(well the son of) not to mention a slew of other maniacs. The film has good atmosphere and some interesting visual FX. This is available on DVD on the Dracula Legacy collection along with 3 versions of Dracula, Dracula's Daughter, House of Dracula and some very good extra material. The DVD transfer to this little known horror film is very good.』

(It's far better than its reputation)
『Probably no horror film of the classic era, or its star, has been as maligned as "Son of Dracula" starring Lon Chaney, Jr. But here's the blatant truth: the film's pretty darn good, despite its dopey and misleading title, and Chaney -- in remarkably flattering makeup and costume -- pulls the role off far more competently than anyone has a right to expect. Sure, he's not Lugosi -- only Lugosi was Lugosi -- but Chaney plays Dracula better than Lugosi could have played Lennie in "Of Mice and Men." The southern setting is logically explained within the story, and in fact it prompts one of the film's creepiest scenes, the one with voodoo princess "Queen Zimba." Even though most of the cast is playing against type, they are proficient, particularly Louise Allbritton as Dracula's bride, and Robert Siodmak's direction is highly effective (even if he did have a perverse penchant for staging Dracula's scenes in front of mirrors, in which he is reflected). As for Chaney, probably only Sofia Coppola in "Godfather III" has endured more abuse for a single performance, which is sadly ironic since "Son of Dracula" is one of his best Universal turns. Really! Throughout his career, Chaney managed to project a child-like, helpless quality that was an asset for roles such as Lennie or even Larry Talbot, and later ones, such as Robert Mitchum's father in "Not As A Stranger," in which he was cast as a desperate alcoholic. But here he abandons his child-like personna completely and plays the role with subtlety, iciness, masterful control and a real sense of knowing evil. Truth is, the only contractee on the Universal lot in 1943 who could have done the part as well or better was Basil Rathbone, who, given his low opinion of horror films, would probably rather have eaten worms. "Son of Dracula" is not a great film, or a particularly important one, but it is nowhere's near the dog that tradition has made it out to be. It's a highly entertaining shocker that shows off Chaney to far better effect than any of those "Inner Sanctum" mysteries that were made around the same time. Try it -- you'll like it.』

(AN OK "B" MOVIE HORROR)
『With 1943's "Son of Dracula" the Dracula series officially became 'b" movie fodder as most of Universals horrors of the 1940's were. The movie opens with Count Alucard (Lon Chaney) coming to stay at the southern home of a wealthy and rather morbid heiress Katherine Caldwell (Louise Albritton) whom he met when she was in Hungary. Katherine has become smitten with the Count and after he kills her father, she asks only to be given the home, while all the rest of the estate can go to her sister Claire (Evelyn Ankers).

Katherine slips away to a nearby swamp as the Count's coffin rises from the depths of the swamp and he emerges in a cloud of mist which was a very effective special effect in its day. The two are married and Katherine breaks the news to her fiancee Frank. Frank confronts them back at the house and tries to shoot the count, but the bullets simply pass through him, and kill Katherine who was standing behind. Soon Professor Brewster realizes that Alucard is Really Count Dracula and contacts a Hungarian professor Laszlo for assistance to help destroy the vampire.

Son of Dracula does have some things going for it. The additions to the vampire mythology of turning to mist is very effective and allows Dracula to sneak up on his enemies or to escape when Laszlo shows him a crucifix when Dracula tries to strangle Brewster. The film also shows Dracula levitating across the swamp which one makes the guess was basically his mist form given shape. Son doesn't have the gothic trappings of the original but the set pieces are still fairly effective. And of course any movie with Evelyn Ankers is always a treat.

Unfortunately a major drawback is star Lon Chaney Jr. While Chaney was fine playing the tortured Larry Talbot, Dracula is a role that requires much more charisma and presence, particularly sexual presence which Chaney was sorely lacking in. He comes off much too stiff and monotone in delivering his lines and there's not a hint of Hungarian accent to him.

Also there is no "Son" at all here. He proclaims himself as Dracula and while maybe this was intended to be more in title than literal, there was still no explanation on he being Dracula's son. But then, Continuity was never much of an important factor to Univeral back in those days.

Certainly no classic, it is one of Universal's better B movies of the 1940's. Call it 3 1/2 stars.』

『It was perhaps inevitable that, after playing the Wolf Man, Frankenstein's monster, and the Mummy, Lon Chaney Jr. would round out his horror resumé with a turn at the great bloodsucker himself (not, as the title would suggest, his son). Looking dapper and dignified under the cape, if not exactly threatening, Chaney plays Count Alucard (that'sDraculaspelled backwards), a mysterious Carpathian summoned to America by a "morbid" heiress (Louise Allbritton). Eric Taylor's script is rather clunky, but the story (by horror specialist CurtThe WolfmanSiodmak) is often quite clever, playing like a supernatural twist on a psycho-thriller. Allbritton's frustrated fiancé Robert Page accidentally "kills" her while trying to shoot Alucard (who imperiously stands up to the hail of bullets) and then goes stark raving mad as he watches the dead rise to life and the living disappear in wisps of smoke and morph into creaky stage bats.

Future film noir legend (and Curt's brother) Robert Siodmak (The Killers) does wonders with the swampy, misty Deep South setting despite his obviously threadbare budget, transforming the usual clichés into moments of inspired melodrama. Only the clumsy antics of the skeptical cops and the plodding exposition spouted by an old Carpathian doctor (he just happens to be the local MD) get in the way of this moody minor horror gem.--Sean Axmaker

(Good 50's fun)
『I saw this last night for the first time since I was a kid. I intended to watch a few minutes and head to bed, but found myself strangely engrossed. It's not Shakespeare, but if you take the movie on its own terms it's good fun. Some of the complaints you might make -- fairly cheesy monster, ponderous speeches by the scientist -- are staples of the genre, and more than ok. The transformation scene is definitely NOT the best one ever, but it's all right by the standards of the era. The image of the first murder victim -- officially she was "scared to death" -- I found quite eery, and if you have one of those moments in a horror movie, you're doing pretty well. Most impressively, there were many moments when I expected a standard stock response from one of the characters and, instead, the script gave them, surprise, something interesting (and moderately logical) to say. Everything wasn't completely believable -- I laughed every time the fish made an appearance, and some serious convolutions were required to turn our hero into the monster. And the final sacrifice seemed quite unnecessary. But I still enjoyed these scenes -- when the movie was bad, it was still all right, if you know what I mean. All the four and five star ratings here are kind of extreme, but this is a nice little horror film.

Hey, and Troy's performance is far from the most wooden one here. That honor has to go to Joanna Moore, whose non-acting undermines every scene she appears in. But she is nice to look at, and screams ok. And, hey, good driving in that accident scene.』

(Put Monster on DVD for goodness sake)
『VHS sucks, but this is one of the better sci fi/horror entries from the 1950's. Let's get this and a few others on DVD already.』

(SILLY FUN 50'S HORROR FILM WILL ENTERTAIN YOU!)
『This is the last film included on the Ultimate Sci-fi classic collection DVD set. 'Monster on the Campus' is a fast paced typical 50's drive-in horror movie that will evoke some unintentional laughter in parts, but it does have some good qualities as well. There is a good well known cast and the special effects are better than some of the lower budget horror films from the time. The best asset the film has is ....it's fun! This is part of a cool Sci-Fi DVD collection mentioned above. The other films included are really good but, having this to round out the 5 films is fine by me. The DVD transfer looks great...very clean!』

(Get yer cheese right here!)
『Sometimes you're just in the mood for one of those old black and white 50s sci-fi classics, so corny and low-budget, and yet, oh, so satisfying. "Monster on Campus" stars handsome Arthur Franz as anthropology Professor Blake, who has just received a rare species of fish unchanged since prehistoric times. First, a dog (owned by student Troy Donahue) comes in contact with the fish's blood, and becomes a snarling prehistoric wolf. Next, a tiny dragonfly drinks some fish blood and becomes as big as a model plane. And then, Professor Blake is exposed to the blood and, well, you can only guess at the unmitigated horror!

This movie was directed by Jack Arnold and continues in the tradition of some of his other films, such as "Creature from the Black Lagoon" - the script is beyond corny but the acting is so sincere you go along with it. Arthur Franz was the perfect nice-guy who is dedicated to scientific research even at the risk of his own life. Joanna Moore plays his nubile love interest and later, helpless victim of the Monster. Troy Donahue is wooden and forgettable in a small part just a year before his breakout role in "A Summer Place." This is definitely one of those campy "so bad they're good" movies, just right for some cheesy fun.』

(College Caveman)
『I Love this movie. It's nothing special but it came from Universal which means it's a cut above AIP and nicely photographed. It's really all about atmosphere and it has a nostalgic 50's look about it. I can't add much to what others have written except to say that Leading Lady Joanna Moore is the mother of Ryan and Tatum O'Neill. You seldom get to see her in a major role. My favorite scene is when Miss Moore runs her 1958 Desoto Fireflite convertible off the road to avoid the rampaging caveman. Thrilling stuff for a teenager in 1959! By the way, Molly Riordan's car is a 1958 Plymouth Belvedere convertible. Just thought some of you misght be curious.』
『More Fifties sci-fi fun fromauteurJack Arnold (director ofCreature from the Black Lagoon). The body of a celocanth, long thought to be extinct, is brought to a university for study. This particular prehistoric fish, though, was exposed to gamma radiation; contact with its blood turns a German Shepherd into a slavering, snarling wolf-dog. The fish juice makes a dragonfly roughly the size of a radio-controlled model plane; when Professor Franz gets the stuff in his pipe (go figure) and smokes it, he turns into a hairy, cranky wolfman who wants to kill everyone and break everything in sight. The effects wear off, though, and Franz is compelled to try it again, in the interest of science, of course. When the Neanderthal version of Franz gets ahold of an axe, all bets are off. So…you've got coeds, an antediluvian dragonfly, a primitive, irritable dog, a snarling, ugly troglodyte in a plaid work shirt, all owed to that ever-popular plot device, Gamma Radiation. What more could you ask from a Fifties drive-in feature?--Jerry Renshaw

(Looks Like They Shot This Last Week!!! Awesome!)
『Usually not one of my favorites of Steven Spielberg and don't ask me why. But this remastered Blu-ray looks and sounds fantastic! Also you get all 3 versions of the film to choose from. A must for any Spielberg fan and the quality is all there. One of the best Blu-ray's out there bar none!』

("WE ARE NOT ALONE")
『"Close Encounters of the Third Kind" is Steven Spielberg's 1977 blockbuster that examines how a man's life is changed forever when he realizes through a series of unexplained events that other beings exist in the universe. Roy Neary, played by Richard Dreyfuss, is a happy family man when, one night, a spaceship flys over him in his truck. This leads him to investigate the incident, with him ultimately losing everything he has, including his family; his investigation becomes a compulsion that even he can't control. The movie was one of the biggest blockbusters of the 1970's and is the best film that explores aliens and the unknown. This beautiful 2 disc DVD set is loaded with extras including interviews with Dreyfuss and Spielberg, 11 deleted scenes, a making-of documentary, a 1977 featurette called "Watching The Skies", plus much more. Rona Barrett from ABC said the film is "brilliant and nothing short of a masterpiece".』

(This movie is a classic...)
『When this movie was made Steven Spielberg knew exactly what he was doing when he had this movie made it is brilliant and very well done all of the special effects trick photography, as well as the storyline and everything else when everyone sees the UFO's and they are wondering what is going on and so on is also great so of course I say that is movie is very well done and it is definitely indeed a classic and if you watch this movie with your kids cause this is what I reccomend you do so that kids will get an idea of what this movie is about and you can explain it to them cause this movie has a mature rating but the adults can watch this movie with their kids and it will be enjoyed by all who watch. So this move is indeed a great spectacular movie that everyone will enjoy. I highly recommend you buy it and share it will all of the people that you love.』

(A timeless classic !! Very entertaining and interesting to watch !)
『Still a classic movie and fun to watch after all these years. Sure, there are some parts that are a little "goofy", but since we really haven't made first contact yet,(that we know of)we really don't know what to expect. Lets just hope they're as friendly as the ones in the movie !

A big thumbs up from me !!』

(Who contacts who)
『This is another one of Spielberg's gems.See who actually made the contact, those shy aliens.Situations like this keep you guessing. But Spielberg was no fraud when it came to science fiction classic's.Would you have the guts to actually contact the alien,or perhaps get someone to do it for you.We would see then wouldn't we.Who has the answers huh, with all those advances those aliens had, they have nothing to fear.I dont think i would walk onto a spaceship with one, would you?
You should look into this,it's actually a great package.』

『Anybody who has written him off because of his string of stinkers--or anybody who's too young to rememberThe Goodbye Girl--may be shocked at the accomplishment and nuance of Richard Dreyfuss's performance inClose Encounters of the Third Kind. Here, he plays a man possessed; contacted by aliens, he (along with other members of the "chosen") is drawn toward the site of the incipient landing: Devil's Tower, in rural Wyoming. As in many Spielberg films, there are no personalized enemies; the struggle is between those who have been called and a scientific establishment that seeks to protect them by keeping them away from the arriving spacecraft. The ship, and the special effects in general, are every bit as jaw-dropping on the small screen as they were in the theater (well, almost). Released in 1977 as a cerebral alternative to the swashbuckling science fiction epics then in vogue,Close Encountersnow seems almost wholesome in its representation of alien contact and interested less in philosophizing about extraterrestrials than it is in examining the nature of the inner "call." Ultimately a motion picture about the obsession of the driven artist or determined visionary,Close Encounterscomes complete with the stock Spielberg wives and girlfriends who seek to tether the dreamy, possessed protagonists to the more mundane concerns of the everyday. So a spectacular, seminal motion picture indeed, but one with gender politics that are all too terrestrial.--Miles Bethany
『The Collector's Edition (CE) represents Steven Spielberg's third version ofClose Encounters. Created in 1998, this sequence contains most of the judicial edits made for the Special Edition (SE) in 1980, speeding up Roy Neary's first contact with the UFOs and adding a scene of a discovery in the Mongolian desert. The Collector's Edition also reinstates the comical madness of Neary tearing up his own front yard, replaced in the SE by a scene where he breaks down in the shower; both scenes are restored in the CE. The SE's revised ending, featuring an extended scene inside the mothership is deleted.』

(Incredible!)
『This book is an awesome book. I remember reading Famous Monsters of Filmland back in the 60s. The quality printing of this book is incredible. I love that they had printed a hard bound version. It's well worth the money. The color of the paintings pop right of the page.』

(THE BEST ART FROM THE BEST ARTIST)
『First of all...Like so many reviewers before me have said; almost every boy that grew up in the '50s&'60s anxiously collected our 35 cents every month so we could go to the local candy store&buy the latest issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland. This magazine became our bible&4E Ackerman became our surrogate father. More than 45 years have passed; but I can still remember those magnificent covers as though it were yesterday. Basil Gogos painted the cover of the Gorgo issue which had a blue background&also the Vincent Price issue which had a white background, etc. This Book displays all of Basil Gogos outstanding cover art which graced the cover of FM for so many years. Don't take my word for it...ask Stephen King, Rick Baker, George Lucas, Stephen Spielberg, John Landis, Rob Zombie&a host of others..This book is an absolute delight for the senses&like fine art is meant to be treasured,』

(love it !!)
『this book is great.Very happy to included this one in my collection.Already have a tattoo planed of bride of frankenstein.』

(Gorgeous Book)
『I'm in agreement with another reviewer that mentioned the book could have been better written. That being said, it is well worth the price for all the fantastic paintings and drawings. A must for every fan of horror and sci-fi art.』

(Nice Packaging, not much substance)
『Even without text, this book would've earned 4 stars, just for the impressiveness of Gogos' work. Within this book are large, crystal-clear repros of his most famous monster cover paintings, as well as samples of his illustration work.
The only setback for this book is its lack of depth in the text. It seems that whoever was sent to interview Basil didn't ask too many questions, didn't want to really know too much about him except for his general acheivements, and didn't ask him for a demonstration of how he works. Among all of the great pics, some candid ones of the artist would've been nice, most notably a pic of his studio.
Still, the images are so rich in color and character. Worth it!』

The Famous Monster Movie Art of Basil Gogos is a celebration of the career of the acknowledged master of film monster portrait art. To many fans of classic horror movies, the name Basil Gogos is as familiar as that of Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi or Vincent Price. Gogos' paintings are as iconic as his subjects. This long-overdue retrospective features high-quality reproductions of many of his most famous paintings as well as many previously unpublished paintings and drawings of classic film creatures and actors. Gogos' early work in men's adventure magazine and paperback book art will also be examined as well as his works in movie posters and other areas. An in-depth career-spanning interview with the artist will accompany the illustrations and tributes by other artists and film professionals inspired by Gogos' powerful images. The book will feature an introduction by rock star, movie director and horror collector Rob Zombie.

The "monster craze" among baby-boomers, sparked by the release of Universal Studios' horror classics to television in the late '50s, gave birth to a new phenomenon -- the monster magazine.Famous Monsters of Filmland, filled with monster photos and articles on horror movies and their stars, was the premier publication for young horror film fans.

Issues of the new magazine practically leapt off the newsstand shelves and into kids' hands due in no small way to their striking cover paintings by Basil Gogos. Like a Bizarro world Norman Rockwell, his stylish portraits of horror film characters and stars were seen on magazine covers throughout the '60s and '70s. Gogos' interpretations of movie monsters like Frankenstein, The Creature from the Black Lagoon, and the Phantom of the Opera, breathed new life into the old black and white images. His amazing use of color and bold, impressionistic brushwork gave a sense of both excitement and sophistication to his paintings which has never been matched.

Gogos' legend as the world's greatest movie monster artist has only grown over the years. His original Famous Monsters cover paintings are highly sought-after and are in the collections of many filmmakers and rock stars on whom he made a lasting impression. In recent years he has been in much demand by producers wishing to capture the unforgettable look and feel of the classic monster art of the '60s. CD and DVD covers, movie posters, trading cards, book covers and new monster magazines continue to keep Basil Gogos the world's greatest monster artist.』

(Another great book in the noble dead series, action and adventure abound.)
『Traitor Of The Blood is the forth book in the Noble Dead series.

In this novel we see Leesil going in search of the fate of his missing mother and father, after Leesil escaped the dreaded clutches of his master the brutal war lord, Lord Dormouth. Leesil takes his lover Magiere and two friends Wynn and Chap into the Warlands to face almost certain peril, here they will all face evil warriors, elvin assassins and dreaded shape shifters, as always the two evil Noble Dead Chane and Welstiel are on there tale.

This is another great edition to the Noble Dead series, plenty of action and adventure, as with book three you get a real sence into the history of one of the main characters Leesil. A great series that is well worth reading, i'm looking forward to reading book five, Rebel Fay.』

(I don't have a lot of time to read...)
『...so I have to be choosy about which books I am willing to spend my free time with. I have to admit, I typically stay away from a series - if for no other reason than because school take precedence, and I am not able to read one right after the other-more like one at the end of every semester, but this series is quite the exception. I have sped through 3 books already just on this current Christmas break and have THOROUGHLY enjoyed them. I can't put it down. I would definately recommend reading them in order, and they are VERY enjoyable!』

(Vampires and Dhampirs)
『This a fantastic book in a series of fantastic books by Barb Hendee. I cannot wait for the next one to to come out so I can read it. I hope this series continues on and on for awhile.』

(Yet another gem from the Hendee's)
『Traitor to the Blood is the fourth book in the Noble Dead series by Barb and J.C. Hendee. The first book is Dhamphir, the second is Thief of Lives and the third if Sister of the Dead. If you are considering reading this book, I strongly urge you read the other three first. While you may get the general idea of this story, by reading the other three the story will be much more satisfying and enjoyable for you.

The plot in this book seems to be much more involved that the first three books. In the first three, the plot seemed rather linear and there weren't many subplots. They were still very good books, don't get me wrong. In this book however, it seems the Hendee's made a conscience effort to really have a solid foundation in which to throw their characters. There are several subplots in this book that only add to the mystery of the situation and even within the last one-hundred pages yet another subplot is thrown in for good measure. With all this talk of multiple subplots, you might be thinking this book is confusing. It's really not. The plot, and subplots, are laid out in such a way (and explained) that there is really no confusion. They are merely added elements to the overall story and help explain different characters motivation and feelings.

For the most part the characters in this book as carryovers from the previous three books. Of course, being that the heroes are in a different place now, there are some new additions, but the main cast largely remains the same. This is a good thing though, because it allows the Hendee's to delve deeper into who the characters really are instead of having to explain about new characters all the time. There is a lot of character development in this book for a number of characters. However, there is no secret, this book largely focuses on Leesil and his mission to find his parents. These characters, from the heroes to the villains are very well written and this only adds to the fantastic story of the book, and series. These are not your two dimensional, cliché ridden characters from some other fantasy books that are being published now.

I do have one minor criticism about this book. In the previous books there has always been some levity and humor sprinkled in. That's fine, in fact I enjoy that. However, there was one scene in this book that seemed to be written strictly for the humorous aspect, and it just didn't seem to fit with the part of the story it was placed in. It kind of threw me off a little bit. Again, not a huge deal, but one worth mentioning.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and this series. The Noble Dead series is one of the most underrated fantasy series going on today. There is not much, if any, publicity surrounding the series. In fact, I heard about Dhamphir from another author when I asked about good vampire fantasy books. Sometimes, word of mouth is the best advertising one can get. So, I will close with this. If you like vampire novels and you like fantasy novels don't hesitate at all to jump into this series. You won't be disappointed. They truly are diamonds in the rough and make for some very enjoyable reading.

(Traitor to the Blood - Review)
『Traitor To The Blood is the 4th installment in the Noble Dead series and did not disappoint. The focus shifted from Magiere the Dhampir to Leesil the assissain. "Traitor" reveals Leesil's heritage and leads the reader into world of the elves while also expanding the scope and understanding of the world the Hendee's have created. More clues to Magerie's ultimate purpose are provided to peak the reader's curiousity. Additionally, Chap's role and influence are further expalined.
The Hendee's writing is vastly underrated. Each character has been given depth and purpose that continues to expand throughout each additional novel.』

『The adventures of Magiere and Leesil continue as they journey into Leesil's savage homeland seeking the family-and secret burden-he abandoned long ago.』

(Not Perfect, But Deserves Full Support)
『I miss monster movies...This style of movie along with The Mummy, bring good fun back to horror movies. And while this movie isn't perfect, its intent is. A+ for courage to do something different.』

(Van Helsing)
『This movie had everything it held your attention from start to finish, the great thing about it was, every monster I had ever seen as a child was in this movie. No other movie has ever given us Dracula,Frankenstein, wolf Man and Mr. Hyde. It started old World and finished modern. I loved the take on James Bond gaget inventor who was not yet quite a priest and Van Helsing's guide. Your heart just went out to the Frankenstein monster. The story line was fantastic you understood what was going on the entire time . The visual effects was exciting, but i wanted Anna valeris brother who looked a lot like Errol Flynn ,to stay alive a little longer, and it would have been great if you could have seen them clearer in the clouds at the end . But as a whole this movie was spectacular.』

『Great movie and the product I recieved from Amazon was in excellent new condition. No problems enjoying my movie.』
『Like a roller coaster ready to fly off its rails,Van Helsingrockets to maximum velocity and never slows down. Having earned blockbuster clout withThe MummyandThe Mummy Returns, writer-director Stephen Sommers once again plunders Universal's monster vault and pulls out all the stops for this mammoth $148-million action-adventure-horror-comedy, which opens (sanscredits) with a terrific black-and-white prologue that pays homage to the Universal horror classics that inspired it. The plot pits legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) against Dracula (the deliciously campy Richard Roxburgh), his deadly blood-sucking brides, and the Wolfman (Will Kemp) in a two-hour parade of outstanding special effects (980 in all) that turn Sommers' juvenile plot into a triple-overtime bonus for CGI animators. In alliance with a Transylvanian princess (Kate Beckinsale) and the Frankenstein monster (Shuler Hensley), Van Helsing must prevent Dracula from hatching his bat-winged progeny, and there's so much good-humored action that you're guaranteed to be thrilledandexhausted by the time the 10-minute end-credits roll. It's loud, obnoxious, filled with revisionist horror folklore, and aimed at addicted gamers and eight-year-olds, but this colossal monster mash (including Mr. Hyde, just for kicks) will never, everbore you. A sequel is virtually guaranteed.--Jeff Shannon
