(Can of crap!)

(Can Of Worms)

(Can of Worms)

(A Great Made For T.V. Movie!)

(A Good Made For T.V. Movie!)
Ugh! This is one of the worst Disney movies of all time, and that's no lie! I mean, the plot is dumb and the characters are so retarded! This is just STUPID!!! Disney needs to stop making their made-for-televion movies, because they suck!
I'll keep this short because there's not much to say. This is a stupid movie. In my opinion the only good thing is Brighton Hertford as Jill the sarcastic kid sister of the lead character Mike Pillsbury.
Mike opened his can of worms and they poured out all over the tennis courts!i hate it when they do that with chodes! theres no time to be a teenager when your stuck in a broom closet with mike and his can of worms! RAMMING SPEED!
I Love Disney Channel Original Movies! They are fun for the whole family! This one is about Mike. He feels like he dosen't belong on earth. So he accidentialy sends a message to outer space telling someone to come and take him away from earth! By doing this, he has opened up a can of worms. Now a talking dog from another planet has come to help him get rid of evil aliens. It's up to Mike to save his family, friends, crush, and the world! Teaches kids to be brave. Rent it today!
I don't usually like made for t.v. movies, but Disney makes alot of good ones! This one is about Mike. He dosen't fit in. He is also very smart. One day, he wishis someone would come and take him away from earth because he feels like he dosen't belong there. Well, somehow, he sends a message to space and a talking dog comes to help him because by sending his message, he accidentiall opened up a can of worms, causeing evil aliens to come to earth. Now he has to save the day. I liked this movie alot, but others didn't. I think that if you like Disney's Zenon, Smart House, Miricale in Lane 2, The Thirteenth year, or Johnny Tsunami, You'll love this movie...
Don't be fooled by the title. There are no creepy-crawlies in this Disney made-for-television movie, based on Kathy Mackel's book. Instead,Can of Wormsis a sci-fi comedy dripping with tongue-in-cheek satire. While the opening credits are still rolling, we meet teenager Mike Pillsbury (Michael Shulman) in his backyard, armed with a satellite and earnestly appealing to "fellow citizens of the galaxy" to take him away from this planet, where he is "being held" against his will. Such soliloquies are common for this high school misfit who seeks solace by spinning elaborate tales about the universe. But this time someone up there is listening. Several days later Mike receives a visit from an English-speaking alien named Barnabus, a "slime bucket" with a voracious appetite who also happens to be an intergalactic attorney willing to help Mike sue planet Earth. This unruly doomsayer explains that Mike has opened a can of worms by communicating with outer space on that lonely night a week prior. Now Earth is no longer viewed as a technologically inferior planet and, therefore, will lose its protected status in the galaxy. The alien attorney is soon joined by a menagerie of extraterrestrials, each vying for Mike's attention. Problem is, while the universe is in calamity, a pretty cheerleader named Katelyn (Erika Christensen) is also interested in misfit Mike, and, for the first time, he glimpses the possibility of belonging. Now Mike must save the world, avoid abduction, and still get the girl. Cheesy special effects and an over-the-top story line make this a laughable late-night flick.--Lynn Gibson

(Soooo funny!)

(MST3K - The Movie - latest edition)

(Outstanding service!)

("So The Aliens Live In Hooterville?")

(Mystery Science Theater 3000 The Movie)
This movie is hysterical. It stays true to the original show and is just great in general.
Hello. Since I am a true MST3K fan I am not going to describe the movie, This Island Earth. It is a well-known movie and their are plenty of descriptions available on the internet.

Rather, I would like to focus on the MST3K production itself. This is definitely an enjoyable MST3K production as are most, if not all, of their productions.

As a fan, there are some things that I would have changed but I think that the MST3K people were trying to appeal to a wide audience and draw in other people that might not have been as familiar with the show as the fans are familiar.

Any MST3K fan will tell you that the show on TV wasn't long enough. Bear in mind, that we are talking about a show that filled a 2-hr time slot. So, that is probably my biggest complaint with this big screen production. The whole thing, including credits is something like 70-75 minutes long. They should have included a short or additional breaks with skits.

I am also sad that TV's Frank did not make an appearance. I know he left the show right around that time but it would have been nice if he stuck around just to be in this movie. I was also a little disappointed that familiar MST3K personnel like Paul Chaplin, Bridget Jones and Mary Jo Pehl did not make appearances in skits like they typically do on the TV shows.

It is a shame that this movie didn't do very well in the theaters but I think that is largely due to the promotion of it. They certainly could have promoted it more but I think the movie should have been treated like a new Rocky Horror Picture Show complete with audience participation.

As far as this specific release is concerned the picture quality is clear. There is nothing wrong with this release. The widescreen format is much better than previous commercial releases of this movie. I only wish that they would have included some bonus features.

In closing, if you are a fan of this stuff like I am you will definitely enjoy this experiment. It is certainly worth getting, watching and having.

The quality of the dvd was and is excellent and the arrival time was very quick. Thank you very much!
Filmed at Energy Park Studios in St. Paul, Minnesota, this Mystery Science Theater 3000 big screen adaptation of 1955's "This Island Earth" will tickle the fancy of any aficionado of the show, fan of science fiction, or lover of comedy. The plotline is essentially unchanged from the brilliant TV show, although sets are more extensive and costly. In this iteration Dr. Forrester (Trace Beaulieu) taunts his test subjects Mike Nelson, Crow T. Robot (also Trace Beaulieu), and Tom Servo (Kevin Murphy) with the classic sci-fi film about atomic power, aliens with giant foreheads, and huge mutant insects, in an effort to break their wills, an effort that, predictably, fails.

"This Island Earth" follows Dr. Cal Meacham (Rex Reason) and Dr. Ruth Adams (Faith Domergue) as they journey to the planet of Metaluna with giant foreheaded Exeter (Jeff Morrow,) who is on a mission to save his home planet from destruction by meteors. The Metalunans are much advanced over humans, but need the help of Meacham and Adams for purposes of obtaining uranium to shield their planet from destruction. The thing that's most interesting about this film is that they spend a whopping total of about five minutes on Metaluna before Exeter, Meacham, and Adams start back toward Earth. It's like they go to the planet, tell the ruler "no, we won't help you" and promptly leave. All this makes for a movie with a very short running time and even with the MST3K host segments the final product is only 74 minutes long, which is a bit of a disappointment considering the original unedited version of "This Island Earth" is 87 minutes long.

The choice of material was controversial both within the MST3K camp and with fans. The film was readily and cheaply available, but was viewed by many as not as strong a choice as could have been made as "This Island Earth" is viewed by many sci-fi historians and fans as a classic of the genre and something of a good movie. Certainly the film is not among the worst that MST3K has skewered ("Monster a Go-Go" anyone?) and as a result the riffing is weaker than a normal MST3K episode. Don't get me wrong, there are some great lines from Nelson and company: "Suddenly I have a refreshing mint flavor.", "Hey! It's a moth equipped with a lightning bug!", and my personal favorite exchange after seeing the wacky Metalunan architecture that so resembled dreadful album covers from the 1970's, "It looks like Dr. Seuss designed their planet....They're really into 'Yes' on this planet."

While I like the film, this is the first (and likely only) time I can't give five stars to an MST3K production. While good, the riffing and host segments weren't as funny or wry as their best efforts ("Manos," "Hobgoblins," "Mitchell," etc.), and the film lost some of it's low budget charm when dressed in the trappings of a Hollywood release. I certainly like the movie and recommend it, but still believe that it could have been so much more than good; with the right movie it could have been great.

Despite the warning that this DVD might not play on players downunder I took a punt and it played ,much to my delight.
The cult television show (in which a hapless space explorer and his robot pals are forced to watch and deliver a hilarious running commentary on bad movies) makes a successful transition to the big screen as Mike and the 'bots lay waste to the '50s sci-fi yarnThis Island Earth(a painfully stiff would-be epic that's actually a cut above the usualMST3Kfare). While ardent fans may be a little miffed that more advantage isn't taken of the expanded theatrical venue (aside from a tad more scatological humor than usual, the content here would fit in comfortably as a regular episode of the series), the nonstop, hyper-literate salvo of comedy riffs that run the gamut from references to Tommy Chong's backyard to Yes album covers more than make up for any conceptual complacency. Be prepared to laugh till it aches.--Andrew Wright

(Great!)

(For Fans Only)

(A movie for Nicole Eggert's fan)

(Good Tongue in Cheek Horror Flick)

(A must see for Nicole Eggert fans)
B movie with skin, great movie in my opinion. A witch burned at the stake comes back years later for revenge.
Unless you are a hard-core Roger Corman or Jim Wynorski fan, stay away from this movie, especially the DVD version. It is in 4:3 format, and obviously taken from the VHS tape master. Very, very poor video quality.

It's also just a dreadfully boring movie. At just over 80 minutes long, it feels like it's twice that long. You know a movie is bad when the commentary track is more interesting than the movie itself.

For those of you who read the previous reviews, and might be interested because you think you are going to see"all"of Nicole
Eggert - sorry to disappoint you, but she uses a body double in those scenes. Don't feel bad, though; hopefully I just saved you from wasting your time and/or money on this movie.

The movie is a classical horror movie but it is entertaning. It is quite good if you are a fan of the gorgeous Nicole Eggert because she plays two roles, the mother Morella and the daughter Lenora (main character). A must-have for every Nicole Eggert's fan (I am)!
I was pleasently suprised by this classically gothic little horror film. Like all films that Roger Corman has either produced or directed this one is a little overplayed; but there is an element of style throughout. The Corman standards are here: naked, big-busted, serving wenches, the damsel in distress, the young hero, and some genuinely disturbing horror scenes. The sets are atmospheric and the writers of the movie have expanded on Edger Allen Poe's tragic perspective that filtered through most of his poetic works like Annabel Lee and the Raven. Not to be taken too seriously but nicely done. Nicole Eggert is perfectly cast as Lenora as has never been more beautiful. David McCallum does a splended job as her"haunted"father. All in all a good effort on a small budget.
This film is an opportunity to see ALL of Nicole when she was just blosssoming into the"actress"she is today. Her performance on-screen is something not to be missed!

(Amazon Service&Product Quality)

(I love this movie -- just ordered the new blu-ray release!!!!!)

(rubbish.....)

(B.S.Ending!)

(No one's seeing it for what it is!)
I am a loyal customer a Amazon.com, I am very glad to mention to all of the global customer that i am very much impressed with the picture quality, product quality, and the awesome service provided by the amazon globally, i truly recommend to all the global customer to take the advantage of the amazon.
It seems that people either LOVE or HATE this movie -- there's no real middle ground for this one. I love it and just wanted to add my positive vote!! I actually ordered the new blu-ray release, and that says a LOT, because I rarely buy dvds. I just love the special effects in this movie -- the vampires are so much fun to watch -- I love the lights constantly going in Frankenstein's head -- can't wait to see the blu-ray version on my new 65 inch TV!!
... simply put......... rubbish.

The amount of Money spent on this film....... decadently sickening!

The Script....... flawed, flat, numb.

The Direction........ Lame!!!!!

The actors....... tried hard to save it! but failed miserably!

The Computer FX.......... beyond woeful! ....this stretchy, movement blur thing is ruining all the reality of film - give me practical fx anyday! ...you losers who enjoy this green screen fake reality - go play a COMPUTER GAME! Films were meant to be real - sets - locations - special effects = aimed to extend our perception of reality - not this lifeless, dull, gamer orientated rubbish which upon conclusion, really just ends up being disrespectful to the old horror masters they tried to impress!

If someone aims to HOMAGE the classic HORROR films of the golden age of horror - for godsake don't sell out like these fakers....

go buy the original classics and put this where it belongs.... the bin!

This just shows that Hollywood can't think of a dawm thing to put on the Big Silver Screen. DRACULA KILLED by a bite from the Wolfman, what a load of Bull S. Dracula is a shape shifter who can change to any creature of the night including Werewolves. So, why the you know the F#*@ would Werewolf bite kill a being that's already dead or undead? Because Hollywood couldn't think of a way for the villian to be disposed of dramaticlly. Hollywood stick to the source material and stop creating a lot of BULL!!!
Van Helsing is one of the most over the top action movies I've ever seen. It's got in your face CGI and a ridiculous plot with cheesy acting. But that's what makes it so damn good. Like other reviewers have said who liked it, it's a nod to the oldies with the new technological makeover and it's a helluva lot of fun to watch...again and again. I understand how people don't like this movie. I may seem like I have horrible taste in movies by loving this, but I like a good Se7en, Silence of the Lambs, or The Shawshank Redemption, much smarter, much more mature and provocative works that stay with you for a while. This movie is the kind where I can just relax, not think too much, and just enjoy and adrenaline-filled, visual effects laden, awesome adventure. I thought the production design was super cool, and at least I could tell a lot of people working on this movie put love into what they were doing. Haha I know that sounds so stupid but I thought so. I'm just puttin down my thoughts on this because I don't want everyone to expect and judge this movie because it's not as smart or well constructed as other, better movies. This one is just F-ing fun. Pardon my French.
LEGENDARY MONSTER HUNTER VAN HELSING IS SUMMONED TO MYSTERIOUS TRANSYLVANIA ON A MISSION THAT WILL THRUST HIM INTO A SWEEPING BATTLE AGAINST THE FORCES OF DARKNESS!
Like a roller coaster ready to fly off its rails,Van Helsingrockets to maximum velocity and never slows down. Having earned blockbuster clout withThe MummyandThe Mummy Returns, writer-director Stephen Sommers once again plunders Universal's monster vault and pulls out all the stops for this mammoth $148-million action-adventure-horror-comedy, which opens (sanscredits) with a terrific black-and-white prologue that pays homage to the Universal horror classics that inspired it. The plot pits legendary vampire hunter Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) against Dracula (the deliciously campy Richard Roxburgh), his deadly blood-sucking brides, and the Wolfman (Will Kemp) in a two-hour parade of outstanding special effects (980 in all) that turn Sommers' juvenile plot into a triple-overtime bonus for CGI animators. In alliance with a Transylvanian princess (Kate Beckinsale) and the Frankenstein monster (Shuler Hensley), Van Helsing must prevent Dracula from hatching his bat-winged progeny, and there's so much good-humored action that you're guaranteed to be thrilledandexhausted by the time the 10-minute end-credits roll. It's loud, obnoxious, filled with revisionist horror folklore, and aimed at addicted gamers and eight-year-olds, but this colossal monster mash (including Mr. Hyde, just for kicks) will never, everbore you. A sequel is virtually guaranteed.--Jeff Shannon

(Fantastic)

(Wrong format - screen)

(Cheesy and Stale)

(This piece of solid sci-fi/adventure comes to DVD)
i enjoyed this movie great actors very interesting check it out if you like underwater adventure
The Abyss is a wonderful movie.
If you like suspense, and sitting on pins and needles then you need to see this movie.

Again, this movie is on the wrong format. Theback cover show widescreen, but not. Still it is 4:3.
A great movie, but todays standards are not acceptable.
Do not buy it, until "another" new edition will come with true 16:9.

*Spoilers*

I really cannot understand how this movie can have an average 4 star rating, and that after *most* of the 1 star reviews have to do with the formatting of the Special Edition and not with the actual content. I realize that 80's movies have to be held to a different standard than current movies, but having watched this for the first time a few days ago, I was blown away by how incredibly cheesy the writing for this movie is. I'm afraid, however, that this review may not win me any friends, but here goes.

When an United States military submarine is distracted by an impossibly quick moving object under the sea, and a mysterious, yet brief power outage that accompanies the sighting, the submarine instantly plows into an underwater wall with disastrous results. This doesn't really make much sense as the power outage is brief enough that it should not have caused the sub to barrel into the undersea wall as directly as it did, but just flow with it. The military isn't too keen on abandoning the potential survivors and the nuclear warheads the submarine was carrying, so a search-and-rescue-and-salvage operation is in order. Unfortunately, they are on a tight time schedule, what with the hurricane coming it all full speed, so it's time to call in the obligatory civilians.

Ed Harris and crew are under-the-sea in their cozy little research station. They are comfortably redneck (everyone in the cast would be equally comfortable with the crew in Armageddon) and they make cute quips like "I really hate that bitch," rejoindered by, "Well, you should have thought about that before you married her." Hahaha. A group of Navy Seals are sent down and they loudly and confidently assure everyone that none of them are going to "freak out", which is really subtle foreshadowing for when one of them immediately begins showing signs of freaking out. For plot purposes, none of the highly trained Seals *or* the civilian operators notice the signs of freak out, despite a litany of physical symptoms.

The crew begins the salvage operation and immediately balks at the creepy dead bodies floating all over the place. When one of the civilians becomes comatose, they trek back to the underwater base and forget about looking for survivors, because there weren't any in the first few rooms and the movie needs to move forward. The Seals are convinced that the swiftly moving underwater light source they've seen is some kind of Russian device, so the mission is escalated and the Seals recover a nuclear warhead in case they need to blow something up. (With an amusing scene in which we find that the "how to disable a nuclear warhead to take it home with you" instructions are *only* marked "Secret" and not one of the higher levels of classification in the military. Maybe things were different in the 80's.)

The underwater station is now in a lot of trouble because the ship above is being tossed badly by the hurricane and the tubes connecting the ship to the base are pulling the base about. When the ship equipment detaches entirely and pulls the base every which way across the ocean floor, there is a ham-fisted scene where Ed Harris' wedding ring (the one he almost discarded!) saves his life. The equipment is eventually thrown over the edge of a deep ocean chasm, which made me concerned that the base would get dragged into the chasm as well, but it doesn't, apparently because we're done with that part of the movie and can move on now.

The resident Bitchy Female Scientist (BFS) testily announces that they are going to die of suffocation or of heat deprivation long before the above ship can save them. Take note of this information, because it will *never* be mentioned within the movie again - once the alien sightings begin, the immediate danger of freezing to death or running out of breathable air are completely forgotten. The BFS starts seeing underwater aliens and the Freaking Out Seal (FOS) starts cutting himself and decides to send the nuclear warhead down into the abyss to destroy the aliens. The other Seals follow his orders, largely because they won't recognize the symptoms of freak out and they are, like all Movie Military People, slavishly devoted to the chain of command.

By the time everyone realizes what has happened, it's necessary for the BFS to allow herself to drown so Ed Harris can drag her back to the base and resuscitate her. He waits until she is *completely* dead before starting the arduous process of dragging her back to the ship, despite the fact that time is kind of the essence here, but he really has nothing to worry about because - despite being unresponsive to traditional revival methods - he is able to bring her back to life by shouting at her. Ed then dons some pressure resistant diving equipment and drops down into the abyss to disarm the nuclear warhead, apparently because the one remaining Seal isn't up to the task. Disarming the warhead is as easy as "cutting the red wire" (as usual), but Ed is hampered by a light source that makes everything look equally yellow, so he just takes a 50-50 chance.

Surprisingly, he guesses correctly and doesn't die, but of course he doesn't have enough oxygen to make it back up to the surface, so he lays down to die. We can't have *that*, so aliens rescue Ed, provide him with a pressurized atmosphere complete with oxygen, talk to him for a bit (we don't get to see that) and then - in the biggest Deus Ex Machina ever attempted on the silver screen - drag Ed and the rest of the crew up to the surface where the hurricane has miraculously dissipated and Ed and Co. do not suffer from the rapid changes in pressure because the aliens "did something to us". None of the terrified military personnel open fire on the aliens, and the movie ends with Ed and the BFS realizing that whatever differences that drove them to divorce have been settled by the events of the movie and that they are super in love now and forever.

The most irksome aspects of The Abyss are the way the plot lurches from one point to another, immediately forgetting what has gone before in favor of the newer, shiny plot development. Nothing is ever resolved so much as just abandoned - the submarine rescue efforts are token at best, the equipment the base is attached to ceases to be a problem after it tumbles over a cliff, the low oxygen and electricity are forgotten immediately, and even the alien sub-plot is massively half-baked as we are left wondering why they've taken this long to come up and look around if they can come up so easily and with no side-effects to their health. I mean, if humans could go to the bottom of the ocean without worrying about oxygen and bitter cold and pressure issues, we would have done so years ago, so why haven't these advanced aliens done so? Apparently it just hadn't occurred to them.

Maybe this is a great nostalgia flick if you caught it in the 80's and liked it then. Probably when this came out, it was unique enough that the cool plot and awesome aliens made up for the terrible script and pacing. But if you're new like me, then skip this movie because there are much better out there. I liked Contact well enough, but The Abyss was just too cheesy and silly for me to take seriously.

A solid cast of characters and an interesting premis drive this sci-fi offering. Ed Harris is the tool pusher, the #1 man on an oil rig, except that this rig is located on the ocean floor. When a US Navy submarine sinks in the vicinity Harris and his crew are caught up in the middle of an international drama. Things get take a turn for the grim when a team of Navy SEALS arrive at the undersea rig and take over...you'll have to watch to see what I mean.

Likes:
1) I like the setting for the story - the deep sea
2) I like the assortment of characters that work on the rig, the intelligent and strong-willed woman engineer that designed the rig
3) The contrasting attitudes of the SEAL teams, especially their team leader
4) Some of the special effects are quite good - for example, the "water tentacle" is great
5) The portrayal of challenges of living in the deep-sea

Dislikes:
1) The special effects used to depict the NTIs (watch and you'll see) are getting to be pretty dated, though they were good when the movie was originally released...that's about it.
2) There's way too much meaningless profanity sprinkled throughout the movie...though some would contend that such language would be essential for accurately portraying oil workers...I wonder.

All in all this is an engaging and interesting bit of inner-space sci-fi. If you enjoy sci-fi you will enjoy this, though it's doubtful that if you take a careful look that it will truly score 5 stars.

This is a solid 4-star offering, no doubt about it. You'll be glad you own your own copy.

Movie DVD
Meticulously crafted but also ponderous and predictable, James Cameron's 1989 deep-sea close-encounter epic reaffirms one of the oldest first principles of cinema: everything moves a lot more slowly underwater. Ed Harris and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, as formerly married petroleum engineers who still have some "issues" to work out, are drafted to assist a gung-ho Navy SEAL (Michael Biehn) with a top-secret recovery operation: a nuclear sub has been ambushed and sunk, under mysterious circumstances, in some of the deepest waters on earth, and the petro-techies have the only submersible craft capable of diving down that far. Every image and every performance is painstakingly sharp and detailed (and the computerized water creatures are lovely) but the movie's lumbering pace is ultimately lethal. It's the audience that ends up feeling waterlogged. For a guy who likes guns as much as Cameron (his next film after all, was the body-count masterpieceTerminator 2: Judgment Day), it's interesting that the moral balance here is weighted heavily in favor of the can-do engineers; the military types are end-justifies-the-means amoralists, just like the weasely government bureaucrats inAliens.--David Chute

(Really Awesome)

(Blade Rules)
I bought these new, played them with DTS sound on and loved em'. Blade 2+3 each have a bonus disc, and all of them come in widescreen format which i think is better cause you see more of what's going on. Has a pretty kewl box case that they all come in also.
Hi, unfortunately i ordered this item on the 4th of december 2008 and by the 6th of january 2009 i still do not have my item.Amazon i am disgusted by your service. This is my worst online purchasing experience ever.
If you have seen the first one you have seen them all BUT why wouldn't you want to? This is Blade were talking about here! 6 hours of Vampire goodness with one bad to the bone Vampire killer.
The Blade Trilogy was a great price for three DVD's. It came in less time than was quoted. The DVD's played great and there were no bad scratches on them.
For a 1/2 vamp, Blade rules. Great collection. Love Wesley Snipes as Blade.

(Nice film location, but thats about it)

(Oh come on...)

(Not bad)

(Pleasant watch)

(The form didn't provide an option for less than one star......)
Could have been a cool "B" slasher film but the story and continunity is all over the place.
I watched this and felt ripped off. The audio was terrible. The direction incoherent. The writing... would have been better if someone swallowed a piece of paper and pooped out a script. This is an awful, amateur movie. Just because there is no budget DOES NOT give it the excuse to suck this badly.
I thought this movie was alright. I felt that the story moved along well and I thought the ending tied in well together...I actually rented this from Blockbuster so I didn't notice the audio problems that some have mentioned. I felt that it was a pretty good flick. Some acting was a little amature, but it all moved well. Not bad for an indie movie.
In watching this film, I didn't know what to expect, but it wasn't what half of these people reviewing it have said. I liked the film. I agree with the fact the the audio towards the end of the film was a little off, but overal for being an independent film, it was watchable. I understood the plot of the movie. The town deputy is trying to find what his past is like and finds a whole lot more than he expected. Watch to find out for yourselves. Give this one a chance, it was a pleasant watch.
Let me see.... Bad Script, Bad acting, bad directing, poor editing, Soundtrack like a bad Japanese Western. So what's to like?? This DVD was an effort to recoup a bad investment..... save your $20 for a REAL Charity !!!

(Absolute Garbage...)

(It was selling for $9.99 in Circuit City)

(Low budget--so what?)

(fuzzy wuzzy)

(I'M HUNGRY !)
Ok... So lets make and EXTREMELY crappy zombie movie with grandpa's
old movie camera and put a really cool picture on the DVD cover so it looks intriguing! Good lord folks...This is BAD! Quite rarely do I take a gamble and buy a movie that I have not heard about beforehand....and im POSITIVE It will never happen again. Even the 3.99 price tag on this DVD is far too costly as I am sure that I could find a decent drink coaster for cheaper.
Anyone who likes this movie is either involved in its production or in a coma.

It was selling for $9.99 in Circuit City. But passed it up, prefer to rent first.
The movie "Dead Life" by director William Victor Shotten is a throwback to the great movies of old such as Night of the Living Dead--or at least it tries to be--unfortunately it's a stupid attempt and being original through looking old, which in itself is an irony.

Looking at its writing, there's absolutely nothing to commend this movie on. Though this movie at least tries to give you an explanation as to the existence of zombies, it's as thought-out as a cat's decision to chase a shiny object. The common mistake made with Romero's films is that the story wasn't well thought out, since they never really explain the zombies (except a bit in the original about a meteor); however, what people don't realize is it doesn't matter why. Romero's films are satirical in nature, they focus on a larger picture and disregard details, that's what makes them so great--that's what makes them films.

Dead Life makes some attempt and showing depth with its underlying theme, except it's stupid and unoriginal, and really not shocking or thought-provoking in the slightest.

This movie is not shocking, it's not realistic, even the "gore scene" everyone is referring to is only a stupid attempt at being shocking and over-the-edge; but it comes off as just being tasteless.

People are giving this movie credit for having no money, but really, people have done better with less. The acting is ridiculous, the sound is poorly dubbed, the camera is always out of focus, and the special effects are lame. It is a tasteless zombie romp with no point whatsoever, it doesn't deserve credit for having a low budget, it makes no effort to make people think and makes no effort to be good, period. Night of the Living Dead was a low-budget film, this is not even close to reaching that level.

Oh, and it actually takes sound effects straight from the first Resident Evil game and dubs them in. Seriously.

Okay I admit, they had a shoesrting budget and did most if not all the work on the weekends with the help of friends. Heres my problem, they could have at least paid more attention to the focus of the camera, most of the scenes were blurry, every now and again the focus was clear, I mean c'mon, when I was fourteen I made a short stop motion animation film using an old Bell and Howell super 8 cam and even then I paid attention to the focusing.Okay enough of that, now for the pros of the film. The make-up fx were good and there is one scene that will make most MEN wince, the outdoor and some indoor settings had a NOTLD feel. Overall I recomend at least checking it out and make up your own minds, at least you can say you saw it. Rent if you can, if not, buy used.
Romero's "NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD" Fulci's "ZOMBIE 2"&Bob Clark's "CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS" are proof that money has little to do with cooking up a classic zombie film! William Victor Schotten's "DEAD LIFE" just prooves the point even further as it is obvious this film was made with alot less money than any of the classics i named above&still seems to have that destine for cult status quality to it. This is a perfect example of doing so much with so little! There are a few zombie firsts&you will see what i mean when you watch it&the end is great! Any real true zombie fan will likey!

(give it a watch and a chance, B movie finest)

(Simmone Jade MacKinnon ... Nuff said.)

(Personally, onr of my favorite shark movies!)

(Expectations Met)

(Grade A Cheese!)
hey, ok, its not a french artsy deep-thoughs masoquistic flick, its raw, bad effects, bad actors, bad NAVY uniforms, surreal situations (ex. why Lorenzo Lamas ask the girl to take out her shirt instead of him's to blood it for the sharks)... horrible computer graphics, but its so funny, makes laugh, its entertaiment , just for itself, really works. I saw it on TV once, and i purchased it, this is maybe the only DVD i have seen more than a couple of times. enjoy, also please notice on Stefan Lisenko shouting hysterically over and over and.. Simmone Mackinnon performs beatifully, as she is. (p.s. the sharks are soooo bad made, deserve further analysis)
B Movies are meant to be "guilty pleasure" movies ... watched to satisfy those urges, instincts and desires that we're not always ready to admit to openly in public. Featuring various combinations of babe lust, wonton carnage, savage (or not so savage) brutality, far out locations, techno-junky-ism, monsters, weapon fetishes, space ships, mutants, armored vehicles and more babe lust, they come in Horror, Monster, Sci-Fi, Girly and many other sub-varieties. My reviews of such movies take this intentional "guilty pleasure" aspect into account and are written for people who enjoy either watching or making fun of this sort of entertainment at least some of the time. If you're looking for more than this from a B-movie ... (though it does happen occassionally), then you're not as smart as you think you are.

THIS movie probably wouldn't have held my attention for very long if it was just another "scary" shark movie, as my personal monster preferences don't focus on sharks. But Simmone MacKinnon is one of my all time favorite busty, Australian red heads. YEOUCH! Plot, script, production values ... who cares. If SJM is on screen (wearing bikini's and snug outfits that are more often wet than not) ... I'm game. Shallow, predictable, libidinous ... you bet. Life doesn't always have to be deep and thoughtful ... sometimes it can just be an experience of guilty pleasure. If you don't get that sort of thing ... well ... then WHY on EARTH were you watching THIS movie? : )

Some people might think that this is another stupid B-Movie with a ton of corny lines, crappy SFX, and a lame plot, but this was different.
This movie has the best SFX for a B-Movie I have ever seen, and the sharks looked amazingly real, and the story well done. Hopefully, a lot of people see this show, because they deserve a taste of what low budget movies can be.
Five stars.

I wasn't planning on seeing an earth-shattering motion picture when I turned on "Dark Waters." In fact, I was expecting to become bored about half-way through this flick. Surprising to me, "Dark Waters" is actually a very good movie that suffers only from a lack of production funds and a modest script. In short, it's a well above-average B-flick that is sure to satisfy even the stingiest and hard-nosed critic if they accept it for what it is.

It held my attention for its duration. It doesn't get too completely outlandish, so far as the limits of a good B-flick are concerned. Lorenzo Lamas is solid as the dashing hero of the film, and his supporting cast does well. The sharks in this film aren't really the focus. In fact, they are only around for brief flashes in the film, most notably when the trio of heroes dive into the realm of the sharks to escape their captors. It's one of the most tense moments in the movie.

If you're looking for a good film that doesn't quite measure up to movies like "Deep Blue Sea" and "Jaws," but is somewhat more entertaining than flicks like "Project Viper" and "Sabretooth," I'm sure "Dark Waters" will suffice.

Recommended to fans of SciFi Channel movies that are above average when compared to most SciFi pictures.

Others have compared this film to Deep Blue Sea. That is slightly true in that there are several smart (well, trained, at least) sharks in this movie. But it also borrows heavily from Shark Hunter (under water installation destroyed by sharks, down-on-luck scientist has super research sub, people smoke in rarefied environments, etc.).

In this movie we have a young scientist who is raising fake funds for an Atlantis mission, worries that he didn't sell enough books to cover the cost of the press conference, but owns a billion-dollar sub. After being taken in by some seductive decoys, he is convinced to look into the destruction of an undersea base (located under a drilling platform). The investigation takes his sub to its depth limit. Enter coordinated shark attack.

Soon, ala James Bond, said scientist finds himself aboard a secret sub where they have been developing the attack sharks for the past 20 years. He and his sidekick (a brainy, busty, oceanographer) baffle the crew with bluster before having to run for their lives. Eventually we get to a cheesy ending involving reunited families, amazing discoveries, and credibility thrown out the window.

There are some odd bits to this film. One is the offshore drilling platform. At what should be where the shaft meets the seabed, there is an installation that looks like an underwater city (mistake or unexplained secret base? My guess is the film makers didn't know anything about offshore drilling). There is also the shark tank. It is in the floor of the research lab with open water. It also extends up in front of the lab so than an impressive window can be opened into it. I shudder to think of the air pressure required to pull off this feat.

Still, there are some nifty shark attacks, a dead whale, cool subs, one of the stupidest rescues ever (it involves a raft and you have to see it to believe it), evil military, atoning scientists, a brainy busty oceanographer, and an amazing discovery. Grade A cheese!

(Spooky Tale)

(Okay book)

(A Shrieking Review)

(A Scary 4 Star Rated Book)
This spooky tale revolves around a myth concerning an old man named Cropsy who has supposedly killed a boy and comes back every six years to the camp to kill. The girls in bunk 5A are a little scared but not much. Fights and feuds lead to a bonding camping trip, which turns out to be their worst nightmare. I couln't put this book down and it kept me reading it even during lunch at school. If you like scary books read this novel today!
Good book, chapters are a little long, between 18 and 22 pages.Lots of suspense. 250 pages 17 chapters.Lost my interest at some points.
This book was wonderful, and didn't fail to give you a little scare! Like all the great books in this series, it kept you reading till the very end. In this book, the girls of Camp Lakeview, bunk 5A, go on a little camping trip to learn how to 'BOND' together. But things get a little twisted when everything goes wronge. A creepy legend about a crazy man named, Cropsy, roams Shadow lake to kill campers. It is quite frightening! The girls get an adventure that is more than they bargained for. I thought it was a really exelent book. If your looking for a book with a slight mystery and mayham, then this book is for you! I loved it, and would read it over and over again!
Wanna read a super scary fun book with adventure in it? This is the PERFECT book for that. When the girls are sent out on a "camping over-night trip," because they've been fighting, it turns out awful. And I mean AWFUL. Chelsea trips and falls down into a hole, and can't get out because she sprained her ankle. The other girls are out to find her, while trying to avoid, who they think is, Old Man Cropsy with one arm. As the legand goes, he spooked some kids out 6 years before, and he accidentally cut off is OWN arm while trying to kill a boy. He comes out every 6 years and tries to cut someone else's arm off, so he can get back his own. THIS IS YEAR NUMBER 6.
The girls go on an overnight and share horror stories around the campfire. But it?s the one about Cropsy, the creepy old man who lives just outside the campgrounds and is known for torturing Lakeview campers, that hits closest to home. Especially when Chelsea leaves the group for a bathroom break in the woods and doesn?t return after 45 minutes. No sooner do her bunkmates go after her then do they realize they?ve completely lost their way and are now at the mercy of the evil Cropsy?s whims!

(The potters Tale)
SoHo continue to delight by re-issuing Nabb's superlative Florentine novels ( although why they aren't being put out in chronological order defeats me ).

The story revolves around Guarnaccia's gradual unravelling of a decades old feud and it's tragic echo in the present.

As ever with Ms. Nabb the story is told with wit and compassion , there are no car chases ( there is a bus ride in the rain ), no shoot-outs ( in 20 years Guarnaccia's Beretta has remained firmly in it's holster ) and no lack of compellingly drawn believable characters.Yet again the atmosphere of Florence is brought out ( apparently ) efortlessly and adds enormously to the success of the book.

These are among the finest ctime novels to be written in the last 25 years.
A young Swiss art student who commutes to a small town near Florence is reported missing. Then her body is found. Was it a sex crime? Guarnaccia suspects a local feud with its roots in World War II.

(Loved It!)

(Revamped is more amped)

(Great follow up!!)

(Void City, take two......)

(Fun, but not as good as the first)
A vampire car, two main characters-one is a bit of a jerk, the other is a bit clueless, demons, and magic stones. That doesn't sound like a book I would enjoy. It actually sounds a bit ludicrous. In reality it was f'in awesome! This book picks up right where the last one left off-Eric has been blown apart, Marilyn is dead, and Tabitha broke up with Eric since he is sleeping with her dead? sister. The cast of characters in this series is unforgettable. Sure Eric discards his lovers when they become dead, and can't help himself to tempting cinnamon smelling humans, but that doesn't make him less likable. Tabitha may get mad over tiny things and be a bit clueless, but she is a newly made vampire, and she does have strength. Even the treacherous Roger and Rachel are interesting. The plot is a bit confusing at times with relation to the Courtney curse and vampire ascendancy but it's not too bad. This is definitely a fast paced and fun book. Revamped doesn't have the slow pace with the quick ending that made the last one mediocre. Also, the things I didn't like about the characters in the first book seem to make them unique and different in this installment. I'm glad I decided to read this, and if you liked the first at all, then definitely check this out.
J.F. Lewis is a newly published author, I really enjoyed and was completely lost in the first book "Staked" so naturally I purchased "Revamped" and was not dissappointed at all. It was very hard to put the book down in order to do anything else. I loved every page and may reread it again soon. J.F. Lewis' next book; as soon as preorder is available will be in my cart without a question.
What's the story?
It's about Eric, a very powerful vampire who just wants to be left alone but is constantly getting dragged into one situation after another. He's brutally honest, coarse, impulsive, and doesn't give a crap about anyone; but he's loyal and protective of his friends and family and will kick the [...] of anyone stupid enough to mess with him and his small circle.

Why is ReVamped interesting?
Like Stake, the first Void City novel, it's a new point of view in a growing genre (urban fanstasy). Some things are familiar: vampire - thrall - sex. But Void City is an interesting place and there are so many great characters courtesy of J. F. Lewis. It's fast-paced, hilarious, and has a main character that both male and female readers can relate to.

I was hooked with Staked, extremely satisfied with ReVamped, and excited about what's going to happen in the third. I hope this isn't going to be a trilogy, but rather a series that gets better each year. I'd recommend this to fans of Jim Butcher and Rob Thurman. The hero is rough around the edges but solid as a rock!

I enjoyed this book very much. The story picks up exactly were Staked left off. Eric, Marilyn and his strip club have been blown up by Roger. They both spend a bit of time wandering the Demon Heart reminiscing, until Marilyn's time approaches for her to move on. Unfortunately, her afterlife may not be as serine and quiet as one would hope. The background information is revealed on how Roger tortured Marilyn for more than 40 years. I totally loved the parts with Fang The Stang aka Eric's sidekick Zombie Mustang (no exaggeration, the car actually eats people). When Eric finally gets his body reformed, he crosses paths with a demon named J'iliol'lth. This is where the story heats up and moves quickly. He's force to strike a deal with the demon in order to save a loved one and also to be able to achieve true immortality. We also find out what Rachel is, what she's been up to and who she works for; when Tabitha and Rachel cross paths again it is not pretty! Void City may be short one strip club but not to fret it's gaining a vampire bowling alley! There was quite a bit of twisted-humor, which I enjoyed very much. I can't wait for the next installment which should follow Eric in old gay-pari, where he is on the quest to find his sire. I recommend this book to Urban Fantasy readers and look forward to the next book in the series.

I also recommend:
The Outlaw Demon Wails (The Hollows, Book 6)
Red-Headed Stepchild (Sabina Kane)
At Grave's End (Night Huntress, Book 3)
Nightwalker (Dark Days, Book 1)
Happy Hour of the Damned

I enjoyed this, though not as much as the first book in the series. It's an excellent way to spend an afternoon and evening.
Eric's club is in ruins, not to mention his love life, and he doesn't even have a body anymore... but he's just not going to give up!In REVAMPED, Eric takes on one of Void City's most powerful demons to rescue his beloved Marilyn's soul. With a little help from his friends, Eric manages to re-form his corporeal body, but his treasured Mustang gets caught up in the magic and winds up with an unlife of its own. While Eric and his newly made retinue of thralls go up against the demon, Eric's current almost-girlfriend Tabitha gets a first-hand look at how High Society vampires act behind closed doors and why maybe... just maybe... she never should have left Eric after all.As Eric matches wits with the soul stealing demon, he comes face to face with the origin of his powers and the history behind his family name. He'll have to delve into the depths of his own worst nightmare -- Vampire High Society -- if he's going to get what he wants and find out who's really behind this latest string of attacks. Someone's after Eric's soul, too, and it just might be someone with whom he's all too familiar....
