Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Overall a great score) 『I would recommend the score if you enjoyed the film, however, I think sometimes the music is creepier than it should have been. This film had a huge potential of having a great score, and I don't think it was fully reached. The most beautiful music is in"The Abbe and Madeleine"which I also think captures a lot of the themes of the film as well as"Dream of Madeleine."While the music works well in the movie, the soundtrack is a little hard to listen to at times. There are some twisted pieces in the music, but I guess that's true of the movie as well. Overall I'd still recommend it to fans of the movie.』
(superb soundtrack) 『I read a review that said the soundtrack was creepy. It is not. It is gorgeous."Zipadee-do-dah does not fit this film. The music has a slight undercurrent of mystery. It is excellent. I highly recommend it.』
(Quills soundtrack is mediocre at best) 『This soundtrack plays pieces I do not recall ever hearing in the movie--and the music itself is very creepy sounding. Not at all what I had expected.』
(Quills Soundtrack is wonderful!) 『The 'Quills' Soundtrack is a wonderful classical pick for any occasion!』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Disney's Tower of Terror) 『We purchased this movie for a Halloween "Family" movie night which had kids of all ages. It had a good story&actors and it wasn't to scary for the real young children. I would recommend it especially for youngsters.』
(Fun and Suspense for Family Enjoyment--Especially Disney Studio's Fans) 『Cute movie with some light suspense and plenty of humor; great enjoyment for the family who visits and likes the Disney Studio's theme park ride "Tower of Terror"; looks like much of the movie was shot using the Disney property Hollywood Tower Hotel (you'll recognize the setting in many of the shots). A fun movie to watch with the kids!』
(tower of terror, fun) 『Tower of Terror is a nice, clean film for families to watch. Sort of like a roller coaster, a little scary but still fun』
(magical!) 『I taped this off the tv when i was a kid and I adored it! watched it so many times! ( well you know, as children do ), but one day my dad took the tape away and i asked for it back and he told me he needed it to record over. I was so distraught! then how many years later ... i'm looking around for that movie that I always liked to watch and there it was! I didn't even remember it so it was all new to me! spooky and yet touching... like ghost whisperer. magical!』
(Loved it!) 『Eventhough it's a 20 year old movie, it rocks. I found it to be very entertaining. Disney scores again!』 『Kirsten Dunst stars as plucky teen niece to Steve Guttenberg in this 1997 telefilm that sets out to provide background for one of Disney/MGM Studios' popular thrill-rides, the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Guttenberg plays Buzzy, a down-on-his-luck former journalist relegated to concocting stories for aWeekly World News-inspired tabloid. When an elderly woman approaches Buzzy with a compelling ghost story, he's persuaded to investigate. Dunst is Anna, who joins Buzzy in his search to find out the truth about the mysterious 1939 disappearance of five people--including a Shirley Temple-like child star--at the eerily abandoned Hollywood Tower Hotel. There are some scary segments, which may truly frighten sensitive younger viewers. Still, for older kids and adult viewers, Dunst's presence and a fairly fun story makes this an engaging film. (Ages 8 and older)--N.F. Mendoza』 『Big-screen stars Steve Guttenberg (THREE MEN AND A LITTLE LADY) and Kirsten Dunst (DROP DEAD GORGEOUS, CRAZY/BEAUTIFUL) encounter a host of haunts in this delightfully spooky mystery! Buzzy Crocker (Guttenberg) is a hard-luck photojournalist whose unexpected encounter with an old woman leads him to investigate an unexplained, decades-old disappearance. It seems that one Halloween night, many years ago, five partygoers vanished in the elevator of the Hollywood Tower Hotel ... and ever since, their ghosts have remained trapped inside the dilapidated old building! In an action-filled story that delivers creepy fun for everyone, Buzzy ultimately teams with his niece (Dunst) to solve the mystery while managing to save their lives and capture the biggest story of the year!』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (I saw it in English) 『I liked the monsters are due on maple street... It made the 50's seem so abnormal because how things are today... If you haven't seen the origanal you must see it...!!!』
(Two Classics) 『This video contains what are perhaps the two best-known and loved TWILIGHT ZONE titles, "Time Enough at Last" and "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street." The former episode stars Burgess Meredith as a bookish bank teller named Henry Bemis. Scolded by his boss and his wife for being "a reader," Bemis retires to the bank's vault each day during his lunch hour to indulge his passion. One day while he is reading in the vault, a nuclear explosion happens and the earth is turned into a wasteland. Stumbling upon the remains of a public library, Bemis declares that now he has all the time in the world to read - but does he really? Serling's script for "Time Enough at Last" is whimsical though ultimately tragic, with similarities to both "The Obsolete Man" (also with Meredith) and "The Lonely." "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street" reflects Serling's concern with the dangers of conformity and prejudice, seen also in another classic episode, "The Eye of the Beholder." An apparent power failure causes mass hysteria on Maple Street; the suburban citizens believe that "monsters" from outer space have landed - and Serling proves them right, in more ways than one. The "Monsters" script is powerful, with subtle references to the Holocaust and a chilling end-narration from Serling. The cast, however, is generally undistinguished, and the acting from everyone except for Claude Akins as semi-hero Steve Brand and Jack Weston as antagonist Charlie is rather wooden. But while in any other episode this would be a fatal flaw, in "Monsters" it hardly matters, since the real "star" of the episode is the mob - that is, everyone AS A GROUP. 』
(2 Fine Episodes Exactly As Pictured) 『Time Enough At Last - A sole survivor of a nuclear war is all alone in its aftermath. First, he finds solace in books. However, after he breaks his reading glasses, he is lost.
The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street - After the lights go out on Maple Street and the phones go dead, the neighbors become afraid and accuse each other of somehow causing the problem after seeing a meteorite or possibly a UFO pass through the neighborhood.』
(4jk) 『Rod Serling was a former boxer and a future PE teacher. He takes a path uncommon to jocks and science fiction. He wrote a movie called "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street." The characters in this movie are: Charlie the wise-cracker know it all, Steve the wise one, Don the laid back one, Tommy the kid who knows what's gonna happen, Sally his mother, and Pete Van Horn a scientist. You don't here a lot about Pete Van Horn because he leaves Maple Street at the beginning of the movie because he goes to another neighborhood to see if the power is on there. It all happens on Maple Street, USA.
My feelings as I read this book were that I couldn't understand why everybody was fighting and blaming each other. It's like you wanna yell " Jiminy Christmas." It's like what Rod serling said, "The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, and prejudice to be found only in the minds of men. For the record, prejudice can kill and suspicion can destroy and a thoughtless frightened search for scapegoat has a fallout all its own for the children... and the children yet unborn. Pg [684.]
I wonder why the town is so peaceful, now and days you see kids about 13-16 on the street smoking, drinking and doing drugs. You might see parents telling there kids there grounded and then later you see the kids sneaking out the window. I mean come on who in the right mind would believe that? "Maple Street, U.S.A., late summer. A tree-lined little world of front porch gliders, hopscotch, the laughter of children, and the bell of an ice cream vendor." Pg [668.]
My favorite part of The Monsters are Due on Maple Street, is when everybody was accusing each other of who where the aliens. Everybody was bickering and fussing about this and that and everything that was going on. Tommy came running up the street yelling an alien is coming, so Charlie took his shotgun and shot what was coming up the street. It was Pete Van Horn, Charlie shot Pete Van Horn. [He swings the gun around to point it toward the sidewalk. The dark figure continues to walk towards them. The group stands there, fearful, apprehensive, mothers clutching children, men standing in front of wives. Charlie slowly raises the gun. As the figure gets closer and closer he suddenly pulls the trigger. The sound of it explodes in the stillness. There is a long angle shot looking down at the figure, who suddenly lets out a small cry, stumbles forward onto his knees and then falls forward on his face. Don, Charlie and Steve race forward over to him. Steve is there first and turns the man over. Now the crowd gathers around them.] Pg 679.
I felt that the book was good. It was very weird I wonder what's going to happen to all of the other people in the book. I wonder if the aliens are going to take over the whole world. Like hypnotizing all of the animals in the whole world to attack and kill all the people in the world except for one person to tell them how all humans lived and the aliens will all move down to earth and start living like humans. Then the whole world will never be the same again. Are you wondering what happened to that one guy? Well they kept him alive, and hypnotize him to think that the aliens are really humans and he married an alien, which he thought was a human. Are you wondering what happened to the animals? Well there alive to but the aliens experimented on them and mixed all of them up. It is freaky dude. I just hope that one of you aren't the one left not killed, because if I were I would just not feel right but I couldn't feel right because I would be hypnotized. Well I change my mind I would want to be the one left behind because I would act like I was hypnotized then I would get some weapons and kill all the aliens in the world. Then I would search all over the world and try to find pieces of the people that were killed then I would go to a lab and clone everybody so that all the people in the world would be back to life but they would be clones but I still would be happy because all of my friends, teachers, family members and other people in the world would be alive. But before I could clone people I would have to read the manual on how to work the cloning machine, then after I read that I would have to read the manual on how to clone people. Then I would fix all the animals back together. Wow! Sorry got off the subject there. Well the book was good I like it a lot I hope you like it to. So you have to read "Monsters are Due on Maple Street"』
(1VJ) 『"The Monsters are Due on Maple Street," is a classical episode of the Twilight Zone. I like how it showed that we can be prejudice and suspicious. It's also interesting how all the "monsters", or aliens, had to do was flick on and off a few lights to scare the people. Then the rest was the peoples own doing. The movie is very dramatic, and is almost exactly the same as the teleplay. The fact that it is in black and white makes it even more intense, in my opinion. The video and the teleplay both had the same scene of fright where the lights go out and nothing works. This then goes on to mass confusion, foreshadows the coming of aliens, and shows the weak points of the human race. The plot advances with chaos. The people get scared and confused. They blame each other for having something they don't. This causes mass confusion and general panic. Things only get worse after that. One thing happens after another. The suspicious grows and the people get paranoid, until someone is killed. This person was Pete Van Horn. "You killed him, Charlie. You shot him dead!" (679) As the plot advances they also foreshow what will come. The aliens are the ones who cause all the lights to fail, but the humans are the ones who became suspicious. This foreshadows the doom of the humans. The aliens plan to go from Maple Street to Maple Street and do the same to cause the fall of humans. "Then I take this place... this Maple Street...is not unique." Rod Sterling's theme for "Monsters are due on Maple Street" is you shouldn't be too quick to judge people. Or be suspicious of people who have things you don't. Chaos supports this theme in showing how easily we can become suspicious of others. Then from there chaos and mayhem come. The theme could also be a kind of moral. "They pick the most dangerous enemy they can find... and it is them selves" (682) I think this quote is a good quote to describe the theme. I think "Monsters are due on Maple Street" is really great. It has a wonderful plot. When I read the teleplay, I thought it was just like the other Twilight Zones. (I have seen a few others. One was about a man being in isolation.) I really enjoyed the Monsters are due on Maple Street. The teleplay was almost exactly like the movie or visa versa. My favorite part in this one was at the end where the sudden quietness is shocking. Then the aliens come and start talking, and it fades out to Sterling's face and he said his "And this is the Twilight Zone." I also like the beginning/ending songs. In conclusion I think the teleplay and the movie were both equally interesting.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review ("Would sixty gallons be sufficient?") 『If you're a sci-fi fan, it's hard to have not already seen this at some point in your life (and it could well be the REASON you're a sci-fi fan), and it would be even harder not to love it.
This movie isn't called a classic for no reason; it's clear upon watching the vast influence it has had on virtually every science fiction film made since. Especially telling is the "Star Trek" inspiration: from the attitudes and behaviors of the crew (more akin to the original "The Cage" pilot) to the viewscreen and use of communicators, one can feel what young Gene Roddenberry must have taken with him from this movie. Also, the special effects were AMAZING for the early fifties; and yes, the "monster" is animated (although for the purposes of the story, it's VERY fitting that it would be)...but if you gotta have an animated monster, you couldn't ask for a better one than one done by a Disney animator.
All the conventions of sci-fi are represented, and the storyline is a very cerebral and provocative one...and seeing a very young Leslie Nielsen in a heroic and romantic role is great...and Anne Francis is very easy on the eyes as well, made all the better by being a strong and intelligent foil, not just there for the scenery...something else ahead of it's time and a template for the Ripleys and the Uhuras that were to follow.
All of this depth and thoughtful story, and Robby the Robot too! The great-grandaddy of R2-D2 and C-3P0 (George Lucas had to have had this guy in mind) adds cerebral value, some amount of menace, and even comedic relief to this overall staple of the genre.
All in all, if you're an old school sci-fi fan like me, or someone new to the genre wanting to see where a great deal of it all began, you cannot go wrong with this absolute classic.
Highly, highly recommended.』
(Forbidden Planet - The Id of Your Life) 『The 1950's was the golden age of science fiction, many great films were made, that even now influence our lives and thoughts today. One such film is Forbidden Planet, and for me. It is still one of the best films-and perhaps the only film that has a unique sound track which can not be beaten. Not only that but it introduced one of the best great robots of all time - Robby, this robot is so iconic, it-or he is instantly recognisable.
Before I go on, I just have to say that the music for the film was and still is ahead of its time, and if you watch the credits it comes under `Electronic Tonalities' by Louis and Bebe Barron, this inspiring couple used no musical instruments to compose the weird and wonderful music of Forbidden Planet; and if you look at the theatrical posters of the time, this couple's names are not mentioned - the Academy didn't even recognised the film score as music-how ignorant is that? Because no actual musical instruments were used, Louis and Bebe used tape and electronics to compose the now unforgettable haunting sound for the film. In my mind both Louise and Bebe Barron should receive honorary Oscars for original film score-its well overdue.
Now as for the acting skills of the performers, Walter Pidgeon is perfectly cast as Dr. Edward Morbius, you did know wether to love him or pity him in his struggle with his Id, and over developed intellect. Then there's the lovely Anne Francis as Altaira, Morbius' daughter, beautiful, naïve, and bright. Leslie Nielsen as Commander J. J. Adams, strong and heroic. Warren Stevens as Dr. Ostrow-unusual name, wise, intelligent, a close friend of the commander. It seems there are shades of the Kirk and McCoy between these two men, as the characters/actors work well together. Jack Kellyas Lt. Jerry Farman, another friend of Adams, a likeable easy going guy, obviously a ladies man. Plus two other recognisable actors early in their careers are Richard Anderson (Six Million Dollar Man/Bionic Woman), as Chief Quinn, and Earl Holliman (Police Woman), as Cook, giving a light comedic touch to the film. A well balanced cast in my opinion.
Okay, let's look at this 50th Anniversary Edition of Forbidden Planet, first when it states that it is the Ultimate Collector's Edition, you must never use the word `Ultimate' because it implies it contains everything and anything-well this edition-doesn't-of course thus you'll end up scrutinising it no end-and yes you guess it, I'm going to do just that; let's have a look at what you get anyway:
1] Forbidden Planet (Widescreen) 2] The Invisible Boy (Widescreen-bonus movie feathering Robby) 3] 17 Lobby Cards (reproductions 5A size-approx of both films) 4] Forbidden Planet - Deleted Scenes and Lost Footage 5] Excerpts from `The MGM Parade' TV series with Walter Pidgeon 6] `Client' episode with Robby from the TV series `The Thin Man' 7] 3 Documentaries: `Amazing! Exploring the Far Reaches of Forbidden Planet', `Robby the Robot: Engineering a Sci-Fi Icon', and `TCM Original Watch the Skies!: Science Fiction, the 1950s and Us' 8] Science-Fiction Movie Trailer Gallery 9] 3.5" figure of Robby the Robot
All the above is presented to you in a tin case-which is itself worth getting.
Now in regards the Robby the Robot figure, which was one of the main reasons I got this DVD Edition. I am really disappointed because there is a little false advertising involved, if one looks at the back of the box, the figure of Robby is about 21cm tall, compared to the other merchandize shown, but in reality it is about 9cm (3.5" inches tall), even though it states in small print that the figure is 3.5" Actual Size. (Even on the Amazon website picture shows what I mean) It is obvious that the Marketing Department wanted to sucker us in-well it worked with me, and looking at the metal box it came in, you can easily fit a 6" inch Robby figure. So the point is don't be fooled-seeing is not believing.
So is this really the Ultimate Edition-well no, because there's no such thing, I mean if we are featuring Robby as a bonus in what he has done over the years, then two more acting skills should have been included in this 50th Anniversary Edition: 1] the Lost in Space episode, "The War of the Robots" and 2] the Ark II episode, "The Robot", (this episode showed Robby with a different look than what we are used too) and there are more, of course like than appearance in Wonder Woman for example.
Plus there are two other things I would like with this edition, a booklet, describing the movie, some production notes, cast&crew listing, and any trivia, as well as a CD of the original Film/Music sound track. Why is it that special, anniversary or collector editions don't have CD sound tracks, I'm sure the collector would like to hear the musical score-wouldn't you?
All in all this 50th Anniversary Edition of Forbidden Planet is cool, and the film is my third all-time favourite sci-fi film, and it's easy to see why. You can get just the double DVD without the Robby figure, but if you go that far-go the extra, you won't be disappointed.
One final point, Forbidden Planet is pure science fiction at it's best for the era, and it still hold up today, this is science fiction as it was meant to be, this film set standards for future films to follow. Today's science fiction is dead-film wise, there is no imagination left-ok-ok, what about Star Wars? What about it? Its in a different league of science fiction and it and it successors are really merchandize driven, (today's generation are of a different mind-set) as with all other sci-fi/fantasy films.
Thanks to www.imdb.com for additional information on the cast. 』
(Forbidden Planet Movie Review) 『This science fiction movie is one of the top five made in the 1950's and is even superior to the original "War of the Worlds" made in the 1950's. The story is truly a superior work as the events portrayed are possible in theory.』
(Very pleased with purchase) 『Got what I wanted, at a price lower than anywhere else. Item was received within a couple days.』
(A Classic Seen With New Eyes) 『I've been a fan of Forbidden Planet since I was a kid in the 60s. But while I've seen it hundreds of times, I've NEVER seen it as crisp, clean and beautifully displayed as in this HD-DVD version. That includes the special edition anniversary version on DVD, which was remastered from original material just for that edition. High definition really lends itself to this sort of visually oriented film, and it's just wonderfully done on this disc. Bravo!』 『This 1956 pop adaptation of Shakespeare'sThe Tempestis one of the best, most influential science fiction movies ever made. Its space explorers are the models for the crew ofStar Trek'sEnterprise, and the film's robot is clearly the prototype for Robby inLost in Space. Walter Pidgeon is the Prospero figure, presiding over a paradisiacal world with his lovely young daughter and their servile droid. When the crew of a spaceship lands on the planet, they become aware of a sinister invisible force that threatens to destroy them. Great special effects and a bizarre electronic score help make this movie as fresh, imaginative, and fun as it was when first released.』

(One Ring To Bring Them All And In The Darkness Bind Them) 『So here it is, the crown jewel of the three films. While the third film was already a tiring (for some) 3 hour 20 minute venture, this extended edition of 50 new minutes of footage extends it to an impressive 4 hours and 10 minutes. Again the cast delivers and thanks to this extended version, Christopher Lee and the actors who played the Witch King and Mouth of Sauron (its been awhile since I've watched the documentaries); as I was anticipating to find out what happened to Saruman )Christopher Lee being one of my favorite actors) and was expecting a little more from the Witch King, how threatening Gandalf made him feel then all we see of him is in the big battle, fight Mirando Otto and then get defeated. I find it hard to critique this one as I find no faults with it at all, until we get to the end, where it does drag a little but that's an otherwise small complaint for an otherwise flawless film. Action sequences are the best of the three; the Battle of Pelennor Fields being the highlight and Sam's moment of fighting Shelob as a brilliant moment of the character showing his loyalty to his friend. Howard Shore again provides an excellent score and Into The West is a great, melancholy song to end the trilogy.』
(Lord Of The Rings (Platinum Extended series)) 『All I can say is Great! Great! Great! We especially love the actor interviews.』
(AWESOME!) 『 It's a wonderful thing that the makers of this DVD decided to trust the public and incorporate the "deleted scenes" into the movie, where they belong. It's also very fine that they chose to add so many scenes that help us know and understand the characters and the depth of the story, instead of just more action scenes. Not that I don't like the action, but this is a story of great human interest, of courage, compassion, amazing strength of character. This comes through with much greater impact than in the "cinema" version. The relationships between the characters are much more filled out and their depth is easier to comprehend. The trust they have in each other and the support they give one another is more representative of what is found in the books. I'm glad they did these extended versions, and I appreciate their length. After all, if you need a bathroom break, there is always a pause button. 』
(Stellar service from sender, steller product.) 『The product was in TIP-TOP shape. NEVER before opened, everything was brand-spankin'-new, no dings, no corners bent and the extended edition of this film is the ONLY way to see this movie. There's a Blu-Ray edition coming out of these movies&I knew that before purchasing this Extended edition of the 3rd installment of the series. However, the blu-rays are the theatrical releases only&the extended edition blu-ray comes out way later, so I opted to purchase this in DVD. This Extended Edition is more thrilling, 50 minutes (almost an entire HOUR)of extra film added to the viewing experience seamlessly integrated into the whole film.....a gazillion hours of extras-bonuses-goodies. An Extended Edition on DVD is far superior than a stinkin' Blu-Ray THEATRICAL release, hands down. Get this extended on DVD to hold you over 'til Blu-Ray Extended Edition packaged with better stuff, then it'll be PERFECT. If you play the DVD on a Blu-Ray anyway...like my PS3...the quality of the DVD gets upscaled, so you're still getting a win-win deal. Trust me...don't think...just buy this. End of story!
』 『IN THE FINAL FILM OF THE TRILOGY, FRODO MAKES HIS WAY THROUGH THE DARKNESS TO MOUNT DOOM TO DESTROY THE ONE RING, WHOLE ARAGON LEARNS OF HIS DESTINY&THE OTHERS PREPARE FOR A BATTLE THAT WILL DECIDE THE FATE OF ALL.』 『WithThe Return of the King, the greatest fantasy epic in film history draws to a grand and glorious conclusion. Director Peter Jackson's awe-inspiring adaptation of the Tolkien classicThe Lord of the Ringscould never fully satisfy those who remain exclusively loyal to Tolkien's expansive literature, but as a showcase for physical and technical craftsmanship it is unsurpassed in pure scale and ambition, setting milestone after cinematic milestone as the brave yet charmingly innocent Hobbit Frodo (Elijah Wood) continues his mission to Mordor, where he is destined to destroy the soul-corrupting One Ring of Power in the molten lava of Mount Doom. While the heir to the kingdom of Men, Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), endures the massive battle at Minas Tirith with the allegiance of the elf Legolas (Orlando Bloom), dwarf Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) and the great wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen), Frodo and stalwart companion Samwise Gamgee (Sean Astin) must survive the schizoid deceptions of Gollum, who remains utterly convincing as a hybrid of performance (by Andy Serkis) and subtly nuanced computer animation.
Jackson and cowriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens have much ground to cover; that they do so with intense pacing and epic sweep is impressive enough, but by investing greater depth and consequence in the actions of fellow Hobbits Merry (Dominic Monaghan) and Pippin (Billy Boyd), they ensure thatReturn of the Kingmaintains the trilogy's emphasis on intimate fellowship. While several major characters appear only briefly, and one (Christopher Lee's evil wizard, Saruman) relegated entirely to the extended version on DVD, Jackson is to be commended for his editorial acumen; like Legolas the archer, his aim as a filmmaker is consistently true, and he remains faithful to Tolkien's overall vision. IfReturnsuffers from too many endings, as some critic suggested, it's only because the epic's conclusion is so loyally inclusive of the actors--most notably Astin--who gave it such strength to begin with. By ending theLOTRtrilogy with noble integrity and faith in the power of imaginative storytelling,The Return of the King, like its predecessors, will stand as an adventure for the ages.--Jeff Shannon』

Can't wait for season two release.』

(welcome to a world of wonder) 『9.2 THE SHOW ITSELF 8.5 VISUALS 9.3 SOUND 10 PACKAGING 9.1 EXTRAS
First things first: This is not anything like Lost. Just because J.J. Abrams' name is attached doesn't mean that Fringe is like Lost. At all. Is it a sci-fi show? Certainly? But is there as many characters, as much terrific acting or extremely drawn out story lines? No. But that doesn't mean Fringe is bad. In fact, Fringe is extremely mindblowing, if you give it a chance.
Some episodes are bad, yes. But if you aren't coming into Fringe expecting it to topple the giant that is ABC's Lost, then you will find alot of joy here. But the show is far from perfect.
The show follows FBI Agent Olivia Dunham as she begins to unravel a massive mystery that includes her former partner, the government and a massive technology empire called Massive Dynamic. She then gets help from Peter and Walter Bishop, a father-son duo who have a rough history. After a few episodes you begin to understand that the characters here are exactly as they appear. Peter is quickly the smart-*ss genious son who uses his smarts for things other than "good ideas", while his father (played brilliantly by John Noble) is the eccentric, 'mad scientist' who helps solve every case in the 20 episodes of season 1. The set up for the episodes after awhile feel a bit tiresome, but beyond that the episodes are generally very interesting (except for the extremely boring filler episode "Midnight") and well put together.
The best way I can sum up Fringe is that if you were disappointed in how much sci-fi wasn't really in Lost in the early days, this may be for you. There's no beating around the bush - this show is all sci-fi and I love it. There's action, adventure, suspense, mysteries and conspiracies all pointing towards "The Pattern" which alot of people have a hand in. Most first seasons of shows never reach their full potential (Lost did however), and during season 1 I completely forgot that this was just the first season. Extremely impressive and drug-like addicting (not that I know from first hand experience, just so you know). Give it a chance, guaranteed you'll find alot to love about the show.
8.5 VISUALS The visuals are great on this blu-ray set. Although we do see alot of the same sets (the main government buildings, Walter's basement workshop...), it all looks fantastic. Some of the special effects are less than stellar, but that's not the fault of the filming, that's the fault of the CGI crew. But there's far worse blu-ray shows out there. The dark blues and blacks are great here.
9.3 SOUND The soundtracks adds alot to the great atmosphere of the show. And I love the quirky intro song for the show. There isn't much in terms of actual scores here, but when there is something there it stands out. Dialogue and crash sequences sound amazing and with a great pair of headphones you really hear the movement of characters.
10 PACKAGING This 5-disc set comes in a bluray case a little bit bigger than the Dexter seasons, which is placed inside a sturdy cardboard case with a hologram cover. I personally love the image changes on the cover and I love the set up of the book that the set comes with. In great detail it tells what episodes are on which disc along with which bonus features. Also what features are for what episodes. Extremely surprised a TV show booklet on DVD / bluray finally did this. Wish more shows did this.
9.1 EXTRAS There are an assortment of extras here to sift through. Behind the scenes looks, make up works, CGI effects, commentaries and a few other odds and ends fill the set. Some of the features are in high def, some standard definition. If you enjoyed the show you'll find alot to love in the bonus features. Nothing really seems like filler, with alot of details in each feature.
IN CLOSING Fringe has started off as a great show. There were some rough spots in the season to be sure, and some character growth (besides Olivia) would be nice, but maybe in time. (Way past the FRINGE of being great) 『Fringe...what can I say. How about: The greatest television program that I've had the pleasure to watch in my short 42 years of life. It is reminiscent of X-Files, but so much better...completely up to date, let's say. All of the main characters are compelling, the storyline and writing are beyond first class, production values are top-notch - and you get to see it all in glorious HD! Seriously, I can't wait until Season 2 is available to purchase...I'll be getting it right away! How rare and special it is that a televison program speaks to those with something going on "upstairs". I only worry that may be its undoing...hopefully the program is reaching its demographic and will continue for many more seasons!』 『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 09/08/2009 Run time: 1272 minutes Rating: Nr』 『Teleportation, mind control, astral projection, invisibility, precognition, spontaneous combustion, reanimation: these are among the peripheral sciences--or "pseudo-sciences," as one skeptic puts it--examined during the first season ofFringe, a Fox network TV drama debuting on Blu-ray with the full first season (twenty episodes) offered on five extras-laden discs. The notion that those phenomena could have a genuine scientific basis is intriguing enough. But co-creator J.J. Abrams (whose bulging resume as a director, writer, and producer includesLost,Alias, and the 2009Star Trekfeature film) has even more on his mind. Along with the weird science, the series features a multi-agency task force investigating related acts of terrorism that may very well add up to a threat of unimaginable global proportions; people who are exactly what they appear to be (i.e., insane) and others who are anything but; plot twists galore; family drama, interpersonal relationships, corporate evil, cop chases... There's a lot in play here, and while it doesn't always hold together (and like any new series, it takes a while to hit its stride),Fringeis rarely boring, and never less than impressively ambitious.
The pilot introduces us to the main characters, principally FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv, good but not great in the show's central role) and others on the task force brought in to investigate some gross goings-on aboard a jumbo jet (a "self-eradicating, airborne toxin" reduced everyone to blood and bones). Seems this is but one part of "The Pattern," a series of synchronous, similarly shocking events that unfold as the show progresses; in subsequent episodes, lots of people are killed in graphic fashion by all manner of horrors, including scary monsters (slugs as big as a football, teethed parasites that can crush your heart), a gas that freezes a busload of passengers "like insects trapped in amber," people so radioactive they can literally make your brain boil... it goes on. Helping Dunham and the rest of the force figure it all out are scientist Dr. Walter Bishop (an appealing John Noble), who's spent the past 17 years locked up in the loony bin and whose research may be responsible for some of the crimes we witness, and his son-babysitter Peter (Joshua Jackson). As for the "fringe" element, Dr. Bishop and other, less benign geniuses jump-start a dead man's brain, photograph another victim's cornea in order to access the last thing she saw before death, connect Dunham to her boyfriend so she can experience his memories of the incident that left him comatose, use high-frequency vibrations to enable bank robbers to pass through a solid vault wall, and much, much more. As for where and how all of this ends up, let's just that enquiring minds will have to hang in for the long, complicated run.
High-definition bonus features are many and varied; among the best are "Deciphering the Scene" (brief explications of key scenes in every episode) and "The Massive Undertaking" (detailing how certain special effects sequences were pulled off). Exclusively on Blu-ray are expert scene analysis and BD-Live writer-producer commentary.--Sam Graham』

(Halloween. The Definitive Horror Movie-A Classic.) 『Halloween Parts 1 And 2, Are Definitive Horror Movie Classics,It is disturbing yes, Disturbing as you would see On any night of News Coverage on Television,or as Disturbing as People's everyday Declining Morals,But the movie is What Horror Movies Should be, Not meant to Glamorize Crime, but that there is Evil In the World sadly. This movie is not the typical Gore Zombie Movie,But it will creep you out!Not to mention the Eerie track!Donald Pleasence is awesome as is a Beautiful Jamie Lee Curtis Before she ruined her hair!』
(Fun To Watch) 『The first Halloween to me has a special meaning to me in that it was probably the first Horror movie I remember seeing. We used to watch this and laugh and quote scenes, and it was indeed frightening also don't get me wrong...but it had such a sense of humor and such lovable characters, there was more to this than just a slasher film.
Watching it as a grown up reveals so many flaws, we all know it was shot with a low budget by a young crew for the most part. Right from near the beginning when Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) is walking down the street you see trees that have green leaves on them all around, and then there's the mysterious rain that fell on Lauries block only apparently. Also Annie picks up Laurie at 6:30 p.m. when it's still pretty light outside, when in fact as I type this in Illinois it's only 6:15 p.m. and it's pretty dark outside. I am always hoping not to see a palm tree in the background, or the Hollywood Hills or something. Too bad they couldn't have shot the film at least in the midwest where it was set..today it was about 50 degrees and windy on Halloween, the trees that haven't shed all their leaves are a beautiful mix of yellow, orange, and red. The ground is littered with dead leaves wind blown or raked into piles on every street. It is a very amazing atmosphere in the fall with the changing of seasons. At least in the movie they are wearing sweaters and jackets to make it seem like there is a chill in the air.
Other than those minor issues perhaps, the film itself is really pretty good I think, the opening scene is the tragic night that started it all in 1963 as a young Myers stabs his sister to death. It then skips ahead to 1979 when Michael is locked up right before Halloween, and of course he manages to escape...which is a classic moment when the wonderful Dr. Loomis played by Donald Pleasance of course has had it up to here with excuses and why he was allowed to escape in the first place, Loomis is a nervous wreck throughout the film, with good reason. Him and the skeptical Sheriff are an oddball team at times trying to put a dent in Myers' rampage. Fav moment is Loomis staking out the old Myer's place and little Lonnie on a dare walks up to the front door and Loomis yells from behind the bushes...cracks me up every time I see it, and then while Loomis is enjoying his small victory, the Sheriff proceeds to scare the daylights out of Loomis.
A very interesting look at high school life in the late 70's also, with the trio of Laurie, Linda, and Annie. Laurie is the brains of the bunch, and one Ben Tramer is the object of her secret desire...but we never really see this character, can't help but think Ben doesn't know what he's missing in a smart, beautiful, shy...yet somewhat rebelious (smoking pot with Annie) Laurie Strode. Linda (played by P.J. Soles) is a favorite character also, a wild child, who smokes, lusts after boys, drinks beers, and says "totally" about a dozen times in the film. Just another reason to love this movie.
There's some violence of course, Micheal watches his victims, stalks his victims, and overpowers all that get in his way. To me it comes together with suspense and horror, plus a dash of comedy sprinkled in that make this one entertaining and totally fun to watch I think. Halloween just wouldn't be Halloween without seeing this one every year IMO.』

(John Carpenter's movies are so awful) 『As a teenager I was enamored with films, particularly sci-fi and good horror. Everytime I saw a horror film and hated it, it was none other than directed by Carpenter. I don't care about the transfers, or the 1080 or the HD, I am basing this review on the film itself. Save the amazingly talented Donald Pleasence, perhaps in its day, this was terrifying. But when I saw it as a child, perhaps not too long after it was out, I was laughing at most of the film, on really how ludicrous it was. Absolutely terrifying to me is 'The Shining' or of course 'The Excorcist', this is just uniform B horror, and even that is giving it accolades it doesn't deserve. You can argue till the GOP find's a talking head not full of themselves that this was a unique approach to horror films which showed what you can do with a extremely minimal budget, a great score, and awful acting...use really grade school, first person type camera shots, and audience edge of your seat trickery...mehhh...give me 'Blair Witch' anyday....
Ridiculous. How many times is he going to come back to life, over and over and over and over and over and over again. The ending showing still shots of the house, some of the rooms in the house, MM's old house and heavy breathing......oh please...I know 14 year old's who make better cut films on their Hi-8's.』 『Bluray Disc』 『Halloweenis as pure and undiluted as its title. All the short stories have fun characters. Good to read in between the release of your favorite series.』
(A spectacular series) 『What do you call a society of supernatural beings dwelling among us, yet hidden right before our eyes? Ljane Smith calls it Night World. Long before there was even the idea for Twilight, there was Night World. Night World is her mesmerizing, highly addicting series of young adult fantasy books.....only young adults aren't the only ones hooked. How many authors can write a series of nine books so captivating that her readers are willing to wait and are still salivating for the tenth and final book in the series? Oh yes, many authors write compelling series that hook us, but unlike Ljane they write them pretty close together. Ljane (as she prefers to be called per her website) published the first nine books between 1996-98. Here we are in 2009 and we are still breathlessly waiting. In fact, some of us love her stories so much we have purchased the re-released books (as seen above in Vols 1,2&3) and fallen in love with them all over again. Now a decade later there is a whole new group of readers discovering her spellbinding work. Luckily, our wait is almost over as Night World: The Ultimate Fan Guide is being released in late October (with a sneak peek of the first two chapters of the final book, Strange Fate) and Strange Fate is scheduled to be released on April 6, 2010.
Witches, vampires, shapeshifters and other things that go bump in the night do live among us. They are part of Night World and are forbidden from letting us mere humans know they exist and from have relationships with others that are not their specific species. The penalty for breaking these rules is death for all parties involved. But Fate has other plans, creating soulmates that cross those lines. An organization has formed called, Circle Daybreak, that believes the only way for us survive is to all learn to work together and live in harmony. There is a prophecy that says only the Wild Powers can prevent the world from falling into chaos and darkness. Circle Daybreak is committed to finding these four Wild Powers, keeping them safe from Night World and helping them in the coming battle.
This is one of the most captivating series I have read. It definitely gets five out of five and I urge everyone to purchase, check it out from the library or mug a friend who has a copy (not really, but maybe sweet talk them and borrow it.) Everyone who loves fantasy should read these intoxicating stories.』

A vampire hunter -- who is half vampire -- stalks her own kind to protect humans inHuntress.
InBlack Dawn, Maggie stumbles upon an old Night World kingdom where the ruling vampire prince is both an enemy and an ally.

It suprised when I read it wasnt it was about these five teenagers with speacial abilites. Theres Kaitlyn the main charcter who has the ability to see the future but she has to draw it sometimes she doesnt know what it means, then theres rob he has the ability to heal others with enery,Then theres Anna she has the ability to influence animals witch comes in handy alot during the book, theres also Lewis he has PK I thinks it when you can move objects around, And then there is Gabrielle he sucks the enery from people but its really not his fault. Gabrielle may seem like a bad guy in the book but for some reason he was always my faviorte. In the love triangle between Gabrielle and Rob I always rooted for Gabrielle even though Rob always seemed like the right choice if you didnt want so much danger in your life. I recommend this book to anyone who loves L.J. smith books its really good trust me.』
(Psychic Teens Unite!) 『LJ Smith deserves a lot of credit for her ideas. She gave life to brooding, angsty vampires long before it was a huge craze. And her take on gifted teens on the run from mad scientists is like a younger, literary version of Heroes. Dark Visions is a fun, exciting read that will keep you turning the pages well past your bedtime. Like most of LJ Smith's works, it is addictive. The characters are definitely archetypes, but they still have enough spunk and personality to keep you from rolling your eyes.
As usual, LJ Smith shines when writing about the quintessential bad boy. Gabriel Wolf (what a name, right?) will make you swoon. He's bad, but not evil, and you'll probably fall for him faster than Kaitlyn. The "other" psychics -- the ones that are supposed to be a bit more evil than the main characters -- give this book the edge and funny one-liners that keep it from being too sweet, too vanilla. For me personally, Gabriel steals the show with his dark good looks and tough-guy persona.
The fast-paced plot will keep you on the edge of your seat and the love triangle between the three MCs will make your heart pound. I originally read this book over ten years ago, and it's still as good as when I first read it. I'll have to chalk that up to LJ Smith's subtle, yet gripping writing style. Her voice is solid and suspenseful. She just has a certain X-factor that makes all of her works compulsively readable. Like with all of her books, I want to live in the supernatural world of psychics that she's created here.』
(Good Read) 『Dark Visions is all three of the book's series rolled into one, and I have to say that I liked that a lot better than I would have if they'd been separate. The synopsis of the story basically is Kait leaving her home, where she is labeled a witch, because of her ability to see event's into the future, to travel to an institute for young people with psychic abilities like her. Once there she meet's four other people, Anna who can communicate with animals, Rob who is able to channel energy into healing, Lewis who has PK, and Gabriel whom is called a psychic vampire as he feed's off of other people's energy.
As you can imagine, Gabriel is the black sheep, with a personality to match, but even while Kait loves Rob, she can't help but try to get Gabriel on the right track, even if that means getting herself into dangerous situations. The story really has a good plot, and is simply put, light versus darkness. The only thing that fell a little flat with me is the fact that the love triangle was kind of bland. Kait simply falls in love with Rob, and while emotion is mentioned, it isn't the kind where words are really used, just feelings. Like they were in a world were it was light and flowing energy, and love. I would have preferred something more substantial in the way the main characters felt emotion, but it also felt like a two-way street at times. One minute you get light and energy for a description of love, and then the next everybody is literally telling each other that they love one another. It was still a good book, but I believe the main thing that kept me turning the pages was Gabriel's character. I wanted to find out if Kait and Gabriel ever got together, and if he really was that cruel, or if it was just an act. Smith wrote his character very well. All in all, it was a pretty good read. 』
(great book) 『I have read all the LJ Smith books I can get my hands on. This one is not a disappointment. Great stories that biuld on the previous story.』
(I have always loved L.J Smith) 『I started out reading the Night World series, then I went to the Vampire Diaries. I loved both of them, so when I heard about this book coming out I had to get it. Yet again Smith does a great job, this book had me staying up late and wanting more and more.』 『

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (You better stay away from home just this time...) 『Same old Silent Hill, what can I say about it that hasn't been told already. Homecoming is just another Silent Hill game on the series, graphics are decent but not worthy of the 360, we all know they can do better, gameplay remains the same, pitch black scenarios on which you'll have to check the map every 10 seconds or else you'll get lost, tons of puzzles that require a lot of backtracking and the constant feeling that monsters can pop up out of nowhere and kill you because the only thing you have to fight against them is a knife and your trusty flashlight... great!
This game rather than keeping you excited with its story and creepy scenarios packed with a handful amount of scares turns out to be a frustrating experience that's gonna make you think that coming back home was not a good idea at all, although die hard fans of the series will feel like being home with this game, newcomers will be kind of disappointed.』
(Great game bad reputation) 『It's hard discussing homecoming. It is a game that has come with its' fair share of controversy. The reviewers who supported the game said "If you are a SH fan you should enjoy homecoming". How premature and short sighted that statement actually was. Sadly many of the most "hardcore" thus "jaded" Silent-Hill-Heads didn't like Homecoming. You could say many of them decided to hate it even before the game came out. However I'm a bit proud to say while I love SH I never took the franchise too seriously. I enjoyed every title for different reasons and I own every game but the very first one. (I even have the port of origins for the PS2)
Moving on I'm going to address the main complaints people had with the game and debunk them one by one.
Complaint # 1 The game burrowed too much from the movie.
Homecoming burrowed aesthetics from the SH film. However before the whining crested to the highest wave of angst many people actually said the film was one of the best game to movie adaptations + the costume designs and creature models were actually very faithful to the games. In lu of that the same can be said of homecoming....the creatures capture the spooky haunted atmosphere of SH perfectly. In truth the only few nods to the film are the shift to the otherworld, nurses, order cultists, and Pyramid Head. The rest of the creatures are 100% original and the story line has nothing to do with Alessa's alternate self Sharon or any of the main protagonists and antagonists from the film. If you are expecting to see Rose and Cybil Bennet running around you are in for a shocker because they are NOT in Homecoming.
The plot concerns itself with Alex Shepherd and his desperate search for his younger brother Josh. On the surface this may seem like a repeat of the Cheryl/Harry dynamic but as we've grown to expect the story takes a turn for the weird later on. In many ways the revelations are more akin to SH 2 than SH 1. While The Order is present the big chunk of the story centers around Alex's troubled home-life and the mystery of what is going on with his younger sibling. It is hinted Alex was the "black sheep" of Shepherd's Glen and both of his parents always put Josh first. There is a disturbing and sickening reason behind all that but I'm not going to spoil it for you here.
The supporting cast are all original characters. (Except a cameo appearance from Travis Grady) Judge Holloway is the mother of Alex's child hood friend Elle and she's eerily calm despite everything going on. Deputy Wheeler worked with Alex's father who was the sheriff and is a bit suspicious of Alex's motifs. Alex's mother is in a dream like state and sways in her rocking chair while mumbling about being left all alone. There is also the Mayor and the repair man Curtis who are abrasive and paranoid to say the least. Of all the faces Alex encounters Elle seems the most helpful. She is putting up posters in the town about disappearances but is a little wistful Alex left Shepherd's Glen without telling her. Homecoming finally addressed adding more people to interact with and furthermore how you respond to them has a direct impact on the game. While it can be argued this has been done before in other mediums of digital entertainment it is a welcome change and very befitting of a SH experience.
From all this it's easy to debunk SH homecoming is a complete rip off of the movie. It tells its' own tale.
Complaint #2 Alex is too combat capable!
Fans have argued being a helpless average person is the big appeal of a Silent Hill game. However in truth none of the protagonists have been powerless. In each game there were weapons to find. Heather's trade marks are the uzi and katana and event scrawny James got his mits on a chainsaw. SH 4 the room introduced a way to charge attacks so they did more damage per swing and Travis could throw televisions and toasters at oncoming beasties.
Alex is not far removed from his past cohorts. He can roll or dodge out of harms way and much like Henry Townsend he has fast yet weak attacks and strong yet slow attacks. Alex can get guns but as is tradition with SH his first few tools of pain are a simple combat knife and a lead pipe. Beyond that I have not seen anything super-human about Alex. In the beginning he takes out weak enemies easily but later on as more disturbing, grotesque, and lethal monstrosities are encountered he has to struggle to gain the advantage and as has always been the case sometimes it is better to run than it is to fight.
One nice nuance is every weapon has a use to aid Alex is exploring. An axe can cut down boards, the knife can slash apart paintings or other obstructions, and the pipe can pry things open.
Homecoming suggests Alex has military training but even that aspect of his past is a little questionable. Bottom line is Alex is no Chris Redfield. Verdict? Complaint debunked.
Considering Team Silent was motivated by Lost Highway, Jacob's ladder, and even The shining there was a western influence to the series from the very beginning. It is true there were Japanese themes that slipped in. For example Alessa's story is about reincarnation. However beyond that even the deities in silent hill have similarities to western spirituality. Valtiel is based on the angel Valet. James' wife is hauntingly similar to the virgin Mary. Alessa is metaphorical of being akin to a female Christ. The Order sect had rites which were a cross between Native American shamanism and Catholicism.
Fans have often argued SH favored symbolism over gore. But honestly SH has always been about symbolism through the use of gore. Heather rejected God by coughing up a dead bloody baby fetus. Pyramid Head raped mannequins and slaughtered Maria many times over. Walter Sullivan murdered people to enact rites to bring his mother back to him. Vincent suggested the "things" Heather was beating to death were actually people. Silent Hill was always a twisted, maddening, sick, graphic, and disgusting carnival of flesh and blood. This did not begin with Homecoming though the latest installment is guilty of continuing to flaunt unsettling imagery.
My only critique is Homecoming's blatant use of dead corpses. There are some places you find bodies where it is unnecessary and their presence does not do much to make the game scarier.
Overall despite the occasional poorly executed shock tactic Homecoming still has many layers of depth. There is less of a difference between western horror and eastern horror than the elitists care to acknowledge. Both parts of the world have their deep and profound scary movies and their shallow bloody titillation torture flicks. Occasionally a chilling endeavor will have a little of both of those aspects woven together but because no one really gets hurt I don't see what the big deal is. "Fear" is universal to us all and no place on the earth capitalizes on "doing it better" than everyone else.
End Verdict? If you think all western horror is like Saw or Hostel I strongly suggest seeing stir of echoes, Stephen King's It, 6th sense, or any David Lynch offerings. It was the meaningful western horror Team Silent was inspired by. Double Helix is an American group but they continued team silent's proud tradition. Homecoming is not all Boo scares or slasher stupidity. It's merits should be considered as much as its' fleeting flaws.
Complaint # 4: The creatures play on kinky innuendo or are plain meaningless
Pyramid Head does have a meaning in homecoming. It actually ties a bit into the "executioners of the past" story line but he is referred to as the boogie man. Certain SH buffs were angry over this description though his title as "red pyramid thing" wasn't much more eloquent. This was a fan service everyone clamored for after SH 2 but they seemed pretty damned disappointed once they finally received it. As the proverb says "careful what you wish for...you just might get it!". Frankly this version of Pyramid head is not as deeply metaphorical as the one that was James' personal tormentor. Yet if you pay attention to much of silent hill's lore that is open to interpretation there is no denying "creatures" or "men" whom looked like Pyramid Head did exist before James' variation of him came into being. Because PH was also present in the SH arcade shooter it is doubtful he was meant to be a one hit wonder.
The second huge beef of the bestiary are the nurses. Yes, they are the movie variants. However those versions were in fact inspired by SH2. End result? We get SH 2 nurses with bigger breasts. Yet for those protesting too much "sexy nurse monsters" were in SH 3 too. SH 1 featured red clad barely legal nurse intern Lisa Garland. Lest we forget The Room even had a kinky nurse costume un-lockable for Eileen. "Nurses" have constantly been a symbol of sexual tension and hidden murderous intent for the series so blaming double helix for exploiting them is ludicrous. SH 2 was entirely about James hidden naughty fantasies and denial issues. Eroticism always snuck into Silent Hill through the back door so we should come to terms with it already!
Luckily there are many "original" monsters too. The lurkers have worm like lower bodies, human torsos, and clawed fingers. Smogs writhe in agony as their organs glow menacingly while they attack by spewing toxic fog. There are also "dog beasts" referred to cryptically as "Eddie's legacy". The biggest complaint people have brought up is the monsters do not spawn from Alex's own psyche. This is an instant comparison of SH 2 but the creatures in other games were not the result of the protagonist either. In SH 1 the creatures were from Alessa's imagination instead of Harry's thoughts. In SH 3 Heather was fighting monsters who were either twisted members of the order or manifestations of her other self whom wanted to prevent the god from being reborn. In SH 4 the denizens reflected victims of the cult as well as the people murdered by Walter Sullivan. The only other game that spawned terrors from the mind of the hero was "Origins" but some of them were Alessa's too.
By comparison the creatures in Homecoming represent the twisted mythos of silent hill in general and many of them are the legacies left over by other characters in the past who found themselves trapped in the town. That's right. There is reason to the rhyme.
Why do other people see the monsters?
One complaint was because every main character in SH can see the monsters it is not as personal of a journey to the main protagonist. However I think fans have forgotten more than one individual saw the monsters in other games too. Dr. Kaufman saw the monsters in SH 1 and was even dragged off by Lisa who was becoming a type of "damned denizen" herself. In SH 2 James finds a bloodied letter on the ground of a victim's diary chronicling the sightings of monstrosities. Douglas mentions seeing creatures in SH 3 when talking to Heather. In SH4 the room Henry had to lead Eileen around by the hand and protect her from the things lurching towards them. Bottom line is it's a weak argument to claim Silent Hill can only effect one person in any given story arch. The opposite is actually proven to be the case.
The game is too hard!
There is some logic behind this argument. SH homecoming is not a forgiving survival horror game. Both the bosses and standard creatures are tough and you will die many times even on the normal setting. Every monster has patterns and weak spots but exploiting them takes practice.
Do not fret! With perseverance you will get further into the game. The good thing about this game's difficulty is it is not hard because the odds are unfair.....rather it is hard because it demands you think hard about your combat strategies. Going into a fight haphazardly swinging is not the way to survive. Every monster is strong and weak versus different weapons and their movement patterns have to be observed meticulously if you want to hit them in the proverbial soft spot or weave around their attacks.
I actually agree with other gamers on this one. Homecoming is very frustrating on certain occasions even though thankfully it is not impossible. Personally for me this challenge is what makes it a more genuine survival horror experience.
The characters don't act in accordance with what is going on
It is true some of the characters in homecoming act odd. Judge Holloway carries on normal routines as if nothing is out of place. Curtis sits in his shop idly fixing things. However as the story rolls on we learn this menagerie of "Cool façades" are gradually cracking and by the time Alex gets to the Mayor the man has completely lost it. Even in psychology studies show people occasionally handle shock and trauma by either ignoring their circumstances or continuing tasks which make them comfortable. These are all adults living in a nightmare who were forced to give up something very precious to them. Why would they want to admit their beloved town has become the maw of hell itself? I thought Deputy Wheeler and Alex's mother acted very genuine to the situation right from the start. Wheeler opts to find answers and survive whileAlex's mother is so messed up she is practically comatose. Homecoming expresses everyone copes with circumstances in their own special way and that is very accurate to real life.
Do not forget what they said about SH 2 back in the day...you will be shocked !
Instead of the brain-bending adventure with scares and gore that I had so desperately hoped for, it turned out to be a sloppy, monotonous bore that nearly put me to sleep." -- ~Game Informer
"Silent Hill 2's gameplay mechanics are no different than those of any other game ever slapped with the 'survival-horror' tag. You'll whack legions of the same four or so enemy types, using the same familiar array of blunt objects, pistols, and shotguns; get Medallions A, B, and C; put them in Statue D, which opens Door E; walk through Door E; repeat until numb. You'll fight awkward camera angles as much as freaky bad things... fans of the original will be disappointed that not much is new." -- GamePro
"The action, though, is simply repetitive, as even the most common creatures must be bludgeoned repeatedly to 'kill' them (and there are a lot of creatures)." -- Next Generation
"The pacing can be a little languid at times, and the combat and movement controls could use some tweaking. Also, this game feels a little linear and lacking in extras when compared to the original." -- GameCritics
"Flawed, frustrating and contrived, but as an experience it's one of the most emotionally engaging games in existence." -- GamesRadar UK
"Silent Hill 2 doesn't break any molds or revolutionize the survival-horror genre in any particular way..." -- IGN
"Silent Hill 2 is a much prettier, somewhat smarter but less-compelling game than the original... The game's storyline makes more sense in the end of this sequel than it did in the original, but unlike in that game, it never creates the pressing need to understand it in the first place." -- GameSpot
My point? You can pick apart even a master piece if you want to be over critical but why do that when it is more fun to actually enjoy a game despite its faults?
Overall impression/ judgment: Normally I list pros and cons but I've taken up a lot of text already. The bottom line Homecoming IS Silent Hill worthy. Akira is still doing awesome music scores. The locales are still spooky and brimming with small details and obscure references to other games. The monsters are still terrifying. The story is solid. The voice acting is great. The game mechanics are improved. To put it bluntly if double helix lied and said team-silent made the game I bet more than half of the people slamming it would have sung of its' praises instead.
Overall grade: 5 out of 5 stars or a solid A
Criticisms (and they are trite): My only complaints are too many random corpses and the faces were expressive yet at the same time a bit animatronic. (Aka the eye movements and lip animations seemed stiff at times)
』
(Good if you can weather some frustration) 『Homecoming is only the third Silent Hill game I've sampled. I know a lot of people hated "the room," but I fell in love with that one immediately. To me, it was as creepy as it was curious; every time I returned to the room, I'd scour it from top to bottom, looking for further clues to help me unravel the story. I really felt a serious need to get out, but then again, I wasn't sure if I'd still want out once I had escaped... Hate it or love it, you have to give props to the room for being original.
And then there's Homecoming. It's a bit of an odd dog, honestly. It incorporates enough atmosphere from the previous titles to make it feel 'silent hilly,' but it fails to add anything new. There's nothing novel about it. Sure, it looks good, and combat controls received a serious face-lift, but overall, it feels soulless compared to previous Silent Hill titles.
I may just be getting jaded in my old age, but the bad-guys don't seem all that creepy. The dogs don't have any skin on them. That's pretty standard survival-horror fare, anymore. There are big shambling guys that have blades where their head should be. Not sure how they can see me, but they always know exactly where I am. Then there's the weird smoker zombie that is impossible to land a full combo on because there's no way to avoid the constant stream of smoke that's pouring out of him. Oh, and then there are four-legged spider guys that have blades for feet. After you get to know them they aren't too bad, really. They're actually quite civil when fighting; they each patiently wait their turn to be bludgeoned to death with your lead pipe.
The truly disappointing aspect of Homecoming is the fact that Silent Hill's no longer an emotional/psychological thriller. It's digressed into more of a "boo! scared you!" experience. And even the cheap scares get to be predictable after a fashion. Oh...I'm entering knee-deep water...I wonder what on earth is going to happen next/again?
I remember the first time I ever saw pyramid head. The game switched to a cut-scene and he was... doing weird things to/with a zombie nurse. It was perverse, grotesque, and...disturbing. Yeah! That's exactly what it was. Disturbing! What the hell is that guy? What the hell is it doing? Somehow I knew to run away. I didn't want to fight it, I just wanted to be away from it!
You don't get that in Homecoming. You get dogs with no skin that never stop spawning and a dumb brother you're willing to chase straight through the gates of hell. Look, I have a brother in real life. I love him and all, but if I ever saw him run into a haunted hospital with crazy zombie nurses wielding knives, I'd probably consider heading back home and catching jeopardy. Maybe that's just me.
Homecoming relies heavily on darkness to build tension. I've seen this work well in other scary games, but unfortunately, there's *so much* dark in homecoming that it stops being scary and just gets irritating. When you realize there's no light to run toward, you just kinda stop running, you know? The same goes for combat in the game. When you realize there's no way to escape it, it loses its frantic edge and just turns into a chore.
Lastly, there were several times were I got stuck in the game because I couldn't figure out how or where to proceed. Most times this happened it was due to my own lack of attention to detail. However, at one particular section of the game the only way to further the storyline is by opening a door that looks just like the walls surrounding it. Because I didn't realize the wall was a door, I went back outside and died about ten times fighting endless hordes of re-spawning skinless zombie dogs. I was only able to get back on track with the help from an online game walkthru.
Looking back at my review, it doesn't seem like I have much good to say about Homecoming. As frustrating as the game is, I have to admit I do want to play through it. I think it's because I'm genuinely interested in the storyline and would like to know how it ends up. If you're a longtime Silent Hill fan, you really do need to play through Homecoming to get one of the more cohesive narratives in the series. It takes its sweet time unfolding, but the whole time you really find yourself wondering why everyone always treated Alex like garbage, why his mom's a lunatic, and why he's constantly chasing his stupid brother into certain death.
I bought Homecoming because I was in the mood for a good, scary game and yes, it has it's moments. I nearly came out of my seat a couple times to be honest. However, outside those "BOO!" scare moments, its pretty much devoid of emotional tension that was always characteristic in previous Silent Hill titles.
Complaints:
1. New / American development team relies on standard Hollywood horror staples -- to the detriment of the series. 2. The new combat mechanics, while improved, are irritating. Especially in cramped quarters or when facing off with more than one enemy at a time. If you miss one dodge, certain enemies can pummel half your life away. 3. There's no way to skip past some cut-scenes. If you have trouble beating a certain boss, be prepared to listen to the same lead-in schpiel over and over (and over). 4. Too much dark! When sound is your only indication that your face is being eaten by a bug, something's wrong. 5. Zombie Nurses. Again. And now with visible ass cheeks! What I'd like to know is who let them out of the hospital? Now they can turn up just about anywhere...
On the brighter side: 1. Graphics, music, and sound effects are all great. 2. The story is interesting if you don't mind dodging enough skinless dogs to actually get to it. 3. Locals are well done and apart from being too dark, they are very atmospheric, forlorn, and grotesque. 4. The puzzles are great, albeit a bit on the scarce side. 5. Boss battles are more challenging and, for the most part, fun.
As a game, I readily give Homecoming a 3/5. As a followup to the Silent Hill series, I'm afraid I'd only be able to award Homecoming with a 2/5... it has a lot to live up to and doesn't quite make the cut.』
(who likes horror!!!) 『well i do, yea it may not be as good as the previous silent hills but its still decent.its hard to see at times cuz not much light but who wants to play a horror game with the lights on? not me neway i like how u can do combos with the combat knife. in other games u jus slash at em one hit at a time n usally ends up with u dying. i havent got far in this game yet jus picked it up used for 25bucks. at least they kept this series true to survial horror unlike resident evil 5 turned it into a action game. so for ppl who like survial horror which is all about back tracking. finding keys n other things . solving puzzles.game revolving around a good /weird story keepn u guessing whats gonna happen next.doing what u can to survive savn up ur bullets n make a run for it. this game is better then a lot of ppl seem to make it to be. least the survial horror didnt get ruined in it like resident evil went down hill after part 3.』
(WOW...this sucked) 『Ok, i have been playing silent hill since the first game. This is the first in the silent hill series that is a total utter disappointment. first off, it is way too short. i mean i played it in two days. seriously? second, they tried to put too much of the movie's elements in the games...here is a tip, if you have a failed movie...leave it out of your well preforming game. i will give them this, there was real combat in this game, and the puzzles actually made sense. however the best is still #2, followed by the room, then three. really if they wanted to do something great, remake #1...and DO NOT ADD ANYTHING FROM THE CRAPTASTIC MOVIE.』 『Silent Hill Homecoming X360』 『Silent Hill: Homecomingmarks the debut of the renowned psychological horror series on next-generation consoles. But to its credit game developer Double Helix refuses to rest on past laurels, choosing instead to include new more accessible gameplay in the hopes of gaining a new audience forHomecoming. Examples of this gameplay include:Next-Gen Visual and Spatial Features- Every sequel seeks reinvent the namesake game in their series.Homecomingdoes this in three ways, by adding the ability to toggle between a traditional third-person view and an action-oriented first-person view; by adding fully 3-D physics to the game, creating a realistic range of motion for any and all objects impacted by the player; and by adding transitions or "Hell States" that alter the game's physical landscape at points in the game both in real-time and via cinematics. All three actively change the way players see themselves and in the process create a whole new game experience. An Enhanced Combat System- Adding to the standard knives, axes, pipes and other melee weapons that made up the arsenal of previousSilent Hillgames,Homecomingadds a wide variety of guns and explosives. Fitting with the military back-story of protagonist Alex Shephard, these weapons can be wielded in attacks weighted as weak or strong and can be strung together in combos to stun or incapacitate opponents, who can then be taken out with powerful finishing moves. With practice players can even perform evasive ducks and rolls and follow these up with counterattacks. But remember that enemy AI has also been significantly improved to compensate for your higher degree of combat prowess, and that it's not uncommon to battle multiple monsters simultaneously.Key Features:

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not as good as the 360 version.) 『This is a great game. but you are forced to rescue all survivors, can't take pictures, and no mega buster. But it is still great.』
(no thinking required!) 『This is a great little game as long as you don't think about it all that much. What I mean is the actual plot sequences are really cheesey! The action is fun because you have an unlimited amount of zombies to wander through and kill which is the whole point of the game. But there really is nothing you need to think about just have fun .....point, click, and fire type of fun!』
(BOOOORING) 『If you like Grand Theft Auto, then you'll like the mission style gameplay.
I, personally, thought it was boring. The zombies don't really react until you're right on top of them, and its not particularly scary.』
(The Thrill Of Wandering Around Killing Zombies Wears Off Fast With Chop 'Till You Drop) 『Dead Rising: Chop 'Till You Drop Review
Grade: D+
...Yes, at first this game does manage to have some shred of fun embedded deep into it. The first time you play it, it is fun to just wander around, shooting zombies, collecting food and weapons, and rescuing survivors. But the second time you play it, you start to get tired of zombies magically appearing right in front of your eyes, right after you just spent some time wiping them out in that area. The third time, you start realizing just how close the game is to Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition, except that Chop `Till You Drop pales in comparison. The fourth time, you're just tired of the clunky controls and ever-growing repetitiveness. The fifth time...well, you just start to wonder if there will ever be a sixth time...
Now as a person who has never played the original Dead Rising, I can't say which one is better, though I can honestly figure out that the trailer for it trailer looks better than this game plays. The graphics are bad, even for the Wii--Resident Evil 4 looks better than this, and it came out over 4 years before Chop `Till You Drop. I also did hear that because the Wii's processor can't handle to many things on screen at one time, they cut back on the amount of zombies on screen--which means that you'll be lucky to see more than 15 on screen at one time.
Another problem is the zombies--they just never have a sense of dread to them. Where as the zombies of Resident Evil had me on my toes at every corner, Chop `Till You Drop's zombies just sort of stand around, scratching themselves. (Seriously--they stand there scratching their necks, even when you, possible prey, is standing there not five feet away from them.) Whatever happened to truly scary zombies? The cover art on this game is scarier than these limp carcasses. And when they do try to attack you, it winds up being just an annoyance, like swatting a fly off your shoulder.
Occasionally the game does try though, but half of what it tries to do winds up being just as annoying. For instance: You have to deal with zombie poodles, zombie parrots, zombie security guards, and zombie...uhh...Kents. The zombie poodles will straight out attack you, but hey rush at you so fast you can't get a good aim, and you usually end up wasting ammo and life trying to kill them. The parrots on the other hand are just plain out aggravating, swopping in and attacking you from all sides, and dropping grenades instead of bird poo. Personally, I'd stick with the poo, because these things seem to have an unlimited amount of grenades to drop on your head. The security guards are armed with tasers, but are thankfully are enormously fat, and you can take them down before they even manage to take a step. Kents are armed with guns and pop out of nowhere, but they fire very rarely, and can also be taken easily.
In the end, is it worth it to get this game? Only if you were in the dilemma I was in: I wanted to play Dead Rising, but didn't have a 360. I did have a Wii though, and decided to get this--but now that I have a 360 (I just got it last week), I return this game, and just get Left 4 Dead already. 』
(Different, but still fun as hell!) 『Let's get the comparison out of the way first. No, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is nothing like the 360 version... and it's not supposed to be. There, how's that?
Now, let's move onto the review to judge the game on it's OWN merits:
1. The control scheme on this game works very well. A simple press of the A button swings weapons. Use B to toggle the gun mode and A to fire. Simple. Special moves are executed by pressing certain button combinations at the right time. Straight forward and done very well.
2. The graphics do the trick and are decent. Not bad at all. Then again, graphics do not make a game. They help, don't get me wrong, but they DO NOT make the game. The additional types of zombies adds a different level of fun and unease to the game.
3. The game flows at a good pace and the balance between the cases and sub-missions is very well done.
4. There are many things to unlock and it really is not a chore to play through the game over again. Even after several play-throughs, killing zombies is still fun.
5. The aiming system in this game is PHENOMENAL. At no point in the game is it a daunting task to score headshots galore with ease. The weapon varieties are also decent.
6. The story is good, typical B-movie fare. It's not meant to be A-class stuff, so all of you out there complaining about the story need to just shut up and deal with it. Go cry somewhere else. The voice acting isn't great, but it does the trick.
OVERALL, I would recommend this game. Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop is more than welcome for a system that is being overrun with cutesy, mini-game laden crap. Enter Edward Carnby, Paranormal Investigator Despite the title,Alone in the Darkis actually the fifth game in a series that dates back to 1992 and centers around the experiences of Edward "the reptile" Carnby. A paranormal investigator by trade, Carnby is looking for answers to the strange events and horrific creatures reported in and around the park, but gets more than he bargained for when all the mysteries and terrors of the park spill out over the course of one apocalyptic night. It's the player's task to avoid the new frightening dangers of the park as you search for the answers to what these supernatural occurrences mean and why they are happening.Gameplay Based on Full Player Immersion Packed full of action and vivid in its realismAlone in the Darkgoes to the extreme to keep players engaged and immersed by plunging them into the heart of the action in real-time at every turn and challenging them to survive using full movement control. The goal here is to allow players to do or at least feel that they can do more or less whatever is possible in real life, within the game.Need to avoid a blast of steam or an eruption of fire that has shot up in your path? You can simply side-step it or you can handle the obstacle with a little more panache by using the environment around you, for example by swinging around it using reachable pipes or wires. In another situation you may be challenged by attacking monsters. No problem. You can take the path of least resistance, again by side-stepping them or placing an obstacle between yourself and them, but if you are feeling like taking out a little aggression you can pick up a board, chair, box, etc. and have at it. Nearly anything that you come across that would be usable in real life is usable in game and can be wielded in several different ways.In addition, game developer Eden Studios has done away with a few in-game conventions in favor of real life upgrades. Instead of old-fashioned health barsAlone in the Darkuses realistic body damage and physiological effects to show players how much damage has been done to Carnby by the new dangerous nightlife of Central Park. Basically this means if Carnby has been taking a licking he's going to be a little bloody. Monsters use sensory perception of all kinds to find their victims, so players need to keep aware of Carnby's physical state, as well as the impact he has on his surroundings. Also gone are traditional inventory systems that take players out of the game while you switch or check items in your possession, replaced by an in-game inventory system where items are carried in the folds of Carnby's trench coat. This allows you to stay in the action the whole time. Sticking with the realism theme, the number of items that Carnby can carry is limited, but since ingenuity is built into the system, items can be combined or their uses altered, mostly with tape, so players can adjust as challenges arise.TV Style Intensity That Keeps You Hooked Built around a unique television style episodic narrative game structure, the storyline ofAlone in the Darkis split into a number of distinct 30-40 minute episodes, doled out one at a time as you play. This new way to progress through the storyline ensures that players can enjoy the game regardless of the amount of time they have available without ever feeling lost. Each time a saved game is launched, the episode will begin with a video summary of the previous episode to quickly re-immerse the player in the story, removing the need to remember where you were or what you were doing at the end of your last play session. In addition, every episode will also close with a nail-biting, cliff-hanger ending to rattle players' nerves. And when you choose to leave the game, a video teaser of the next episode will play to leave players always wanting more.Vivid Photographic Rendering Even on a bad day, and this will be a bad one, Central Park and New York City are something to see. With Game developer Eden's proprietary Twilight technology and rendering engine, players can expect to see everything from the City's famous landmarks to the manifestations of the evil that have been festering in Central Park come to life as if you were there. This lavishly detailed game world takes advantage of highly realistic and advanced cinematographic effects including depth of field, camera focus, numerous light sources, moisture, reflections and High Dynamic Range effects.Whether it's the innovative game play, the unique episodic game structure, the advanced physics or the return of a ground-breaking protagonist recast in the modern era,Alone in the Darkholds something for players willing to take on the mysteries and dangers at the heart of Central Park.』
