J Church 7"'s. J Church records and CD's. On mix tapes; in the car; drunken get-togethers; at my desk at work. The landscape of my entire adult life is dotted with evidence of this band. And yet there's not a single album that is a logical place to begin, or even a single great one out of the entire (massive) body of recordings. But for the sake of this exercise, let's begin at the end and investigate just what is is about J Church that was worth all the hubbub.
You see, J Church is the sonic equivalent of comfort food. It's consumed with about the same amount of relish and in the same pattern as a box of cookies. Cookies make you feel good and there will never be a time in your life when you don't eat cookies.
And like cookies, there is a seemingly endless bounty of J Church. When you get the craving for more, you only have to go get some. It's there waiting for you and it seems like it will never run out. There are, conservatively, about a hojillion J Church recordings.
So why buy this particular record? Well, because it's a very J Church-y J Church album, without sounding exactly like any other J Church album.
This record is to 2007 what their 1996 album was to 1996. That's so hard to explain, but please try to understand. This doesn't sound like Drama of Alienation, but it's the same as Drama of Alienation. It "feels" the same. If you put it in the radio and drive around town with the windows down, it feels the same as it did 12 years ago doing the same with that earlier record. It's an extremely serendipitous thing and it makes the band into an enigma.
Unfortuntatly, the cookie metaphor doesn't exactly work. While it will take the average human many years to acquire and appreciate the whole body of J Church's work, there will be a time when the seemingly endless reserve will be depleted.
Luckily, I don't think there will ever be an end to occasions to drive around town with the windows down, lounge around the house with the radio on, drink beers with your friends, and make mix tapes. And since that's likely true, this band, and this album will never be obsolete. Rerations < Horror of Life >

customer 's review (Please make it PG-13)
(Bad movie for young kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
(Scooby's Ultimate Movie, But Beware.)
(ALERT!!!!!!!! this isn't for young children!!!!)
(Welcome back Scooby-Doo) This is definitely Scary. For young children this movie is way too scary and my kids don't freak to easily.
I can see how others like it. But becareful how you intriduce it to your child.
Mr. Timothy Lee-you should be ashamed to let your 4 year old watch this movie over and over. This movie crosses many lines of cartoon and horror flick. Compared to the other Scooby movies, this is more graphic and not quite so much fun. It is fine for teens and up, but get real. This shouldn't be a movie called a 'family' movie, and you should be doing the responsible thing and knowing what is OK and what isn't for young children to watch. Your 4 year old relies on you to be his parent-so be one! For some time Scooby Doo was all but retired and made a brief comeback with "Laughalympics." In 1998, the original Scooby Doo gang would reunite to make this phenomenal movie. But do beware. PG 13 would probably be a more appropriate rating for this movie. It goes to levels Scooby Doo never before went. And while well done, it would probably be a good idea for parents to screen it first and then decide if it is appropriate for children. Well, that said, this Scooby movie is quite arguably Scooby's greatest movie. To make sense of Scooby's long retirement, there is a flashback with Scooby and the gang solving yet another mystery. Some time passes, and the gang has went their seperate ways. Daphne and Fred have a television show and decide they want to see some real ghosts. Except for Fred, the voice casting is different. But they did a good job of finding voices that at least resembled the original voices. (If it's any comfort, the original voice cast would eventually reunite for the 5th and 6th movies.) Moving on, the gang does get back together, and they head towards New Orleans in hopes of seeing some real ghosts. (2 of the 5 parties are of course reluctant. Guess which 2.) Down in Louisiana, they find some more cases of just 'bad guys in masks.' Later they meet Lena who flirts with Fred and offers to show them her employer's (Simone's) haunted house. They also meet Jaques who seems nice enough and the gardener who does not seem so nice. After Scooby fights with Simone's cats, Simone is understandably annoyed, but she agrees to let the gang in. Soon afterwards, we see some things that appear to indicate the presence of ghosts, but as any Scooby fan knows, there might be a rational explanation, and if so, what is the motive? Scooby and Shaggy offer some comical moments with their too healthy appetities. Soon afterwards, clues start appearing that would make us suspect that some real ghosts are involved, but there is some room for doubt. One thing about this Scooby movie is that the expansion from 30 minutes to 90 or so is a good one. It gives us time to remeet the gang, and time to wonder if the ghosts are real or not, and enjoy some welcome suspense as well. Of all Scooby's adventures, this is one of the LEAST contrived and predictable. Another thing you will notice in this Scooby movie is a surprisingly intense soundtrack. (And I had NO problem whatsoever with that!) In a typical Scooby fashion, the gang gets separated and the horror unfolds. This is one ending I won't give away. But I will say true horror unfolds as we find that surprises shock us for a moment, but then make sense upon discovery. The explosion of misleads enables us to say: "Oh! No wonder!" In all honesty, this movie is more frightening than a lot of so called horror on the market. And perhaps the most frightening moment in this movie is when the 'villain' explains the events that preceeded that of the movie. Good writers seem to know that recognition is often the most horror filled aspect of a story. Again, I consider this a strong contender for Scooby's greatest movie, but do be warned. It may very well be too much for young children. this is not a movie for kids! it has real monsters (i know the box tells you that but the art of the film is very grapic and the story is very much ment for adults) so be sure you watch this movie before you show it to kids. now as for the movie it's self it really isn't very good and isn't part of the scooby-doo series as far as i see it!!! just plain not good!!!!!!!! I've been watching Scooby-Doo for more than 20 years, it's one of my favorite cartoon shows, when it was really a good show, before that stupid Scrappy came into the show.
Anyway, the Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island is one of my favorite movies. When they decide to get back the Scooby show again and the movies, this was the first one, back in 1999. Like I said, for me is the best one. I like the new look on the characters, the story, everything.
If I were going to end the Scooby-Doo show (and the movies) forever, this should have been the last movie or last episode of the show. I mean, it's been a couple of years since the gang were split, and they reunite for like a one last mystery and the cool thing is that this time, the monsters are real. Some people didn't like that, but that's the cool part of the movie.
Besides all that, the animation is very cool, like watching some anime movie, the colors area great, the music, everything, it's just Scooby-Doo. Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred reunite to solve the most frightfully funny mystery of their careers. The scream team's headed to a haunted bayou island to investigate the ghost of Moonscar the Pirate. But it turns out the swashbuckler's spirit isn't the only creepy character on the island. (Not For The Faint Of Heart)
(Great game)
(Not for kids, teens or adults, just kind of sick and that's all)
(My husband loves it) I found this game at hollywood video in the bargin bin and i think I paid about 15 dollars for the game.It reminded me of silent hill without the satanism. The game is interesting and it trys to be twisted with all the insane stuff going on and cursing, the game was too dark so I brighten the screen so I could see better.I had problems with the charater movement freezing and the aiming of the gun sight otherwise the game was amusing and fun.I recomend it for those who find this stuff funny.I wasnt scary. There was a lot of controversy when this game came out, which meant I had to play it. I bought it for the Wii immediately and loved this game. Yes, it's a very deranged and bloody game with a horrifically demented story told like none other... but you'd have to be an idiot if you didn't know that before buying the game.
The Wii motion controls get you all the more involved in the game and you will at times find yourself so immersed in this game that it's frightening.
Definitely not for the faint of heart or children... or something you'd want your girlfriend's parents to see you playing.
My only gripe was that the murders were distorted due to government censoring. I'm not going to hold that against the game though, it wasn't their fault and they didn't let it affect the quality of game play.
I can't wait for Manhunt 3! Not as easy to control as the PSP version but still awesome. The only game I wanted for the Wii. My kid/wife plays all the mario crap and I play Manhunt 2. My gaming lies with Xbox 360 which is a way better system. Maybe I'd rate this game "just for adults" if it had some interesting gameplay and wasn't just appealing to a sick mind. I guess we can hope that the existence of this game will keep a few frog rectums free of firecrackers by occupying the time of people with those sorts of hobbies. That is about the best I can say for it.
I will read game reviews a little more literally in the future, as I thought the negative reviews on this were just hyperbole. What's so mind-boggling is that some group of people thought this kind of stuff needs to be in the world, and put their energy and money into developing it. I bought this as a gift. It came quick as promised for a timely gift. My husband loves it. The sequel to Rockstar's sinister action game about a man who wakes up in a living nightmare where he is being stalked for sport and must sneak through the shadows and kill by whatever means he can devise in order to fight his way out. The sequel picks up with a new lead character, new gangs, a new storyline with gruesome twists and turns, and much more. The urban horrors of Cancer City are gone. Manhunt 2 takes place in a dark, shadowy, asylum filled with dark realities and psychological turmoil. Danny and Leo were subjects in a diabolical experiment that had gone wrong. They were the only two survivors. The game starts in a dingy asylum. You're Danny and your goal is to escape and let no one stand in your way - guards, inmates, nurses, doctors - are all enemies. Can you? Leo talk to Danny throughout the entire escape. There are questions about Danny's sanity but you don't have enough time to consider it as he rampages through the 'hospital' killing his way from one level to the next. He is, of course, relentlessly pursued by a group of viscous hunters who will also stop at nothing to finish Danny off. Actively pursued, the hunted Danny Lamb must tackle his way out of a nightmare where the stakes are as real as they are dangerous. While the core gameplay is still sneaking, shooting, and performing stealth attacks, there are a number of new options available for players in this exciting new version that's ripe and ready for the Wii. It's bound to be a major hit with Wii owners. Like the original Manhunt, Manhunt 2 isn't for the faint-hearted ( ESRB rating is M for Mature). Death scenes are particularly gruesome, gory and bloody. Improved AI and advanced graphics make the game seem more realistic. Coupled with an eery soundtrack and sensational audio effects, Manhunt 2 is a sure-fire sequel for fans in search for frenzied action, explosive gameplay, and pulse-tingling adventure. (Alone in the dark is how it should be played)
(Well it looks fun.)
(Good game bad ending)
(Just not good at all.) Alone in the Dark follows Edward, an amnesiac followed possessed by a demonic entity that is ordered to follow the "Path of Light" in order to stop the demon from consuming New York City. Sounds pretty decent, doesn't it?
AitD struggles pretty much from the getgo with painful controls, a camera system that is great for filming movies, but deplorable for trying to play a game, and an inventory system that, while inventive and original, tries so hard that it forgets what it was trying to do in the first place. Control of the character is difficult enough without straying into combat, which is forced on you repeatedly. And while you're strong enough to ignore bone deep wounds and cuts and bruises, you can't swing a flaming club around faster than a 4 year old trying to bat in the majors.
The inventory controls suffer greatly as well, as its easy to pull stuff out and put it back, but it doesn't pause the game to stop the monsters from chewing half your face off. Also, there's no "holster" button, a standard staple from FPS time immemorial. So you can end up shooting half a clip while struggling to find the control to pull out your molotov to fight the monster that currently killing you.
Its a sad letdown to something that's otherwise rather decent. The storyline starts off well and progress at a decent pace. The graphics are good even by today's standards, and the voice actors actually know what they're doing, which seems to be a rarity in today's dubbing. This game is great for those who love horror movies and wondered what it felt like to be in one. This game has real nice graphics that keep the suspense alive. The controls however could use quite a bit of tweaking along with the camera. Once you get use to these faults the game itself is a must have addition to your Library if you can get it at a real good price. I would recommend buying if it's $15 or under. The controls suck. period. makes you not want to play the game. the character moves like he has arthritis. And im mad because it looked like a really interesting story. This was a really good game. Good graphics and good game play but both endings sucked This game isn't even worth the $15 I paid for it. It's too glitchy, and filled with too many bugs. The driving is also HORRENDOUS. Everything is just clunky, even down to the inventory.
It is also the first game that I quit playing in the first day of receiving it. I usually give most games a chance, but this didn't deserve it. If I payed $60 for this, I would have a heart attack, die, return to life, then die again.
Avoid it. Uncover the earth-shattering secret hidden in New York's iconic Central Park in Alone In The Dark. History records that Central Park was built on a useless swamp, yet as the New York City skyline hurtled towards the sky over the last 150 years, making the city the most expensive real estate in the world, the park has remained untouched. Why? Civic pride? Perhaps, but the recent strange happenings in and around the park are casting doubt on that, doubts that require investigating. Edward Carnby, Paranormal Investigator is looking for answers to the strange events and horrific creatures reported in and around the park, but gets more than he bargained for when all the mysteries and terrors of the park spill out over the course of one apocalyptic night. It's your task to avoid the new frightening dangers of the park as you search for the answers to what these supernatural occurrences mean and why they are happening.

Paranormal PI Edward Carnby. View larger. | Stunningly spooky views of NYC. View larger. | The odd wildlife of Central Park. View larger. | A whole new inventory system. View larger. | Enter Edward Carnby, Paranormal Investigator Despite the title,Alone in the Darkis actually the fifth game in a series that dates back to 1992 and centers around the experiences of Edward "the reptile" Carnby. A paranormal investigator by trade, Carnby is looking for answers to the strange events and horrific creatures reported in and around the park, but gets more than he bargained for when all the mysteries and terrors of the park spill out over the course of one apocalyptic night. It's the player's task to avoid the new frightening dangers of the park as you search for the answers to what these supernatural occurrences mean and why they are happening.Gameplay Based on Full Player Immersion Packed full of action and vivid in its realismAlone in the Darkgoes to the extreme to keep players engaged and immersed by plunging them into the heart of the action in real-time at every turn and challenging them to survive using full movement control. The goal here is to allow players to do or at least feel that they can do more or less whatever is possible in real life, within the game.Need to avoid a blast of steam or an eruption of fire that has shot up in your path? You can simply side-step it or you can handle the obstacle with a little more panache by using the environment around you, for example by swinging around it using reachable pipes or wires. In another situation you may be challenged by attacking monsters. No problem. You can take the path of least resistance, again by side-stepping them or placing an obstacle between yourself and them, but if you are feeling like taking out a little aggression you can pick up a board, chair, box, etc. and have at it. Nearly anything that you come across that would be usable in real life is usable in game and can be wielded in several different ways.In addition, game developer Eden Studios has done away with a few in-game conventions in favor of real life upgrades. Instead of old-fashioned health barsAlone in the Darkuses realistic body damage and physiological effects to show players how much damage has been done to Carnby by the new dangerous nightlife of Central Park. Basically this means if Carnby has been taking a licking he's going to be a little bloody. Monsters use sensory perception of all kinds to find their victims, so players need to keep aware of Carnby's physical state, as well as the impact he has on his surroundings. Also gone are traditional inventory systems that take players out of the game while you switch or check items in your possession, replaced by an in-game inventory system where items are carried in the folds of Carnby's trench coat. This allows you to stay in the action the whole time. Sticking with the realism theme, the number of items that Carnby can carry is limited, but since ingenuity is built into the system, items can be combined or their uses altered, mostly with tape, so players can adjust as challenges arise.TV Style Intensity That Keeps You Hooked Built around a unique television style episodic narrative game structure, the storyline ofAlone in the Darkis split into a number of distinct 30-40 minute episodes, doled out one at a time as you play. This new way to progress through the storyline ensures that players can enjoy the game regardless of the amount of time they have available without ever feeling lost. Each time a saved game is launched, the episode will begin with a video summary of the previous episode to quickly re-immerse the player in the story, removing the need to remember where you were or what you were doing at the end of your last play session. In addition, every episode will also close with a nail-biting, cliff-hanger ending to rattle players' nerves. And when you choose to leave the game, a video teaser of the next episode will play to leave players always wanting more.Vivid Photographic Rendering Even on a bad day, and this will be a bad one, Central Park and New York City are something to see. With Game developer Eden's proprietary Twilight technology and rendering engine, players can expect to see everything from the City's famous landmarks to the manifestations of the evil that have been festering in Central Park come to life as if you were there. This lavishly detailed game world takes advantage of highly realistic and advanced cinematographic effects including depth of field, camera focus, numerous light sources, moisture, reflections and High Dynamic Range effects.Whether it's the innovative game play, the unique episodic game structure, the advanced physics or the return of a ground-breaking protagonist recast in the modern era,Alone in the Darkholds something for players willing to take on the mysteries and dangers at the heart of Central Park. customer 's review (Obscure but fun)
(how many good games does the wii have)
(I had tons of fun)
(Meh kinda in the middle)
(Hands down, worst ever) Graphics: I thought the graphics were good. I firmly align myself as a retro gamer, but the graphics in horror games are one place where I can easily concede a point or two. I thought that the backgrounds were pretty slick; creepy too.
Music: I don't put a lot of stock in my game music (which I feel bad about because someone's hard work goes into it, but it's not one of my big focuses). I vaguely remember thinking that the music was genre appropriate though.
Story (&voice): I feel voice work in games tends to be lacking. My only problem with it was that the script was a passable Sci-fi/horror flick but the voicing was 1 or 2 grades below. Let's face it, they don't get a lot of the super voice talents for video games (think Roger Bumpass or Venus Terzo).
Replay: The puzzles won't give you much trouble on successive runs, but I'll probably go through it again just because I really like all of the other aspects of the game.
Fun: Amazing if you like Sci-fi/horror. If you don't, you may not take a shine to the zombies and blood&creep smeared decor (so why are you looking at getting it anyway?)
I think I may have paid the FULL retail price, roughly to the tune of $30-40, but I adore this game and consider it money well spent. now some say this game isnt that good others love it let me just say its better then most wii games. given its a ps2 port with wii controls it a pretty good game the 2-player co op is good the story is broken/I have the first one some of the stuff they say in the Aftermath is incorrect but I overlooked that because the game is fun
pros 2-player co-op move and shoot(can walk and shoot at the same time) good cutsence design easy for new gamers good price
cons even with the 480p c. cables it only displays at 480i broken storyline the graphic where not upgrade for the wii
I'm no video game connoisseur, but I had a lot of fun with this game. It was challenging enough that I couldn't speed right through it, but I also didn't get stuck anywhere. I enojyed the graphics and don't have any complaints on the controls. I'm a big Resident Evil fan and while it's not as good, it definitely had enough similarities that I really enjoyed it. The plot is kinda murky. I expect a decent plot out of games in this genre. Maybe I'm too used to Resident Evil and Silent Hill. However , the puzzles are fun to get through. I feel the battle system is weak however. So it cancels out. The atmosphere is good nut then the character acting is pretty miserable.
Basically, this game should be better than it is. OK, so I've been playing Res Evil 4, so I'm a little biased. But I've also been playing House of Dead and Res Evil Umbrella Chronicles, so I know a little bit about survival horror games that aren't so great. But Obscure is awful. It starts out so dark you can't even see what is there. I walked arond in circles for ten minutes trying to find a way out. Then you are suddenly flashed back to college and the whole scene becomes a drug induced blur. If you get motion sick from games at all, forget this one! Lousy controls, horrible voice acting (made me feel like I was watching one of those teeny bop horror remakes), no fun. What is the mystery of strange black flowers that have sprung up everywhere on campus? While experimenting with these flowers, you discover a dangerous substance that causes you to experience strange and vivid dreams. On a bad school trip, when the seeds finally germinate, you find out the horrible reality of the flowers. You have to stop a contagion while fighting a horde of mutants before it's too late. This game takes place two years after the gruesome events of the first game. You can choose from among six characters and one AI controlled sidekick, with each character having their own unique abilities. You can switch at different points in the game, and a friend can even join you at any time. Among the many available weapons, light is probably your best ally to keep the monsters at bay.
Vast variety of weapons and horrifying monsters Weapons include - a flashlight, baseball bat, flaregun, pistol, submachine gun, chainsaw, and dynamite Immersive soundtrack performed by the Boston Symphonic Orchestra and the Paris Opera Children's Choir Rerations < Obscure: The Aftermath >

customer 's review (But Sooner or Later... It's Time to Go Home.)
(A nice look at horror.)
(Should've been put on DVD by now)
(Great stuff!)
(Horror 101) Awesome, one of my favorite horror films. Great clips from both good and bad horror films. From the classics to the cookie cutter to the thoroughly idiotic and everything in between. This movie inspired me to watch several films I'd never seen before and to look back on favorites lost in the mists of the past. Watch for the late (and greatly missed) Donald Pleasance and also the late Fred Asparagus for a cameo. Expertly written and enjoyed.
It's only a movie, but sooner or later, you must leave the theater and go home. Perhaps alone... Donald Pleasance and Nancy Allen narrate "Terror in the Aisles", which is a movie that attempts to present scenes from various horror movies in the hope of tying together common themes of "terror", showing horror from different perspectives, mostly. Rather than analyzing horror movies, "Terror in the Aisles" is a more of a celebration of horror movies.
"Terror in the Aisles" uses different scenes from different horror movies in order to provide the viewer with a well-rounded selection of some of the scariest movies ever made. However, "terror" is obviously defined a good bit more liberally than I would like in "Terror in the Aisles" because some of the movies that are portrayed as being scary are rather silly in my opinion e.g. giant tarantula movie, etc. That being said, there are significant scenes from the best and scariest horror movies ever made like: "Halloween", "The Shining", "When A Stranger Calls", "The Omen", "Psycho", "Halloween II" and "The Exorcist". Just about all of the scariest movies ever made were present in some capacity, although I would have liked to have seen more scenes from "Salem's Lot" starring David Soul, and this was disappointing to me as I do not remember seeing much from this movie, although it has been awhile since I've seen "Terror in the Aisles".
In "Terror in the Aisles", there are other scenes from movies that are very old as well as scenes from lesser known movies that may be of some interest to horror movie completists like myself. Overall, I was pleased with what I saw, notwithstanding some of the silliness that was also evident. Another point worth noting is that "Terror in the Aisles" is a 1984 movie, so if you are looking for anything post 1984, you obviously will not find it. However, there are only a few scary movies that are worth mentioning that are post-1984 in my opinion. In other words, you will not be missing much. This is a neat flick the way they had spliced clips from horror flicks together the way they did, especially from popular old flicks like PSYCHO, HALLOWEEN, HALLOWEEN 2, FRIDAY THE 13TH: PART II, THE FOG, DRESSED TO KILL, CARRIE, THE OMEN, AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, ROSEMARY'S BABY, THE SHINING, WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, POLTERGEIST, NIGHTHAWKS, THE SEDUCTION, THE BIRDS, SCANNERS, THE FURY, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, JAWS, JAWS II, MARATHON MAN, THE EXORCIST, VICE SQUAD, etc., so I don't see what's taking them so long to put "TERROR IN THE AISLES" on DVD, because I would've bought this flick a long time ago if it was on DVD. I love this movie. It's a rarity. The hosts Nancy Allen&Donald Pleasence were wonderful and the scenes from some of the best horror movies ever are enticing. I've actually rented, bought and recorded movies that were in this film just from watching Terror In The Aisles. It is unfortunate that film rights and stuff interfere with this movie being released on DVD. It's a great promotional piece for other movies so I don't see why they can't get the rights to release this on DVD. Still it is worth it to buy this on VHS. One of my favorite movies about horror movies ever! You cannot consider yourself a true horror buff if you do not own this piece of cinematic history. Donald Pleasance&Nancy Allen take us through some of the most memorable scenes of horror films (from B&W's up until 1983), while explaining the subtle geniuses behind them. There's more to macabre movies than meets the eye. Demon children, manmade monstrosities, serial killers... We are in love w/horror in all forms and this film takes a fascinating look at the relationship between horror, entertainment and the psychological need we have to scare ourselves. customer 's review (We gotta go back in time to save the future that we messed up when someone went back to the past and screwed it up. Yep.)
(bttf 2=the film that explain the other 2 in the trilogy)
(Fun movie, but like "TimeCop" there are paradox's run amok here...)
(Better than the 1st movie - a non stop time travel ride)
(Back to the future part 2 is just GREAT.) The day after Marty gets back from 1955, Doc leaves in the time machine to go the future to the year 2015, only to return seconds later (though much more time has passed for Doc). Something terrible happens in the future to Marty's son. Thankfully Marty and his son are the spitting image of each other so Doc has come up with a plan to have Marty take the place of his son for a few minutes to make a correct decision to prevent the bad incident from happening. But while they are in the future, the Biff we know from 1955 and 1985 overhears Marty and Doc talking about their time machine. So Biff decides to change his crappy life by stealing the time machine and going back to 1955 with a sports almanac with all the winners of every sport up to the year 2000. So when Marty and Doc make it back to 1985, it's a very different 1985 than the one that they left. After figuring out what happened, they must once again go back to 1955 to prevent the almanac from being used by Biff so they can save the future that they know. Whew.
I'm a huge fan of the second movie of the trilogy. It used to be my favorite of the trilogy. Probably because of the flying cars and the hover board. Also the more in depth time traveling was definitely nice to have, even though you had to suspend a little bit of belief of how time travel works. Because honestly if Biff goes back in time and changes time, then time should've altered while Marty and Doc were in 2015. To me, the 2015 scenes were cool, but the movie becomes a lot better when they go back to 1955 again. It was a lot of fun to see Marty watching himself do the things he was doing in the first movie. Like when you see him low crawling under a window of the car that part 1 Marty is sitting in with his teenage version of his mother from 1955. Also it was funny to see Fox play multiple characters in this movie such as his son, his older self and even his daughter from 2015. Also it was amusing to see the 2015 Biff ragging on his former 1955 self for being dumb and sounding like an idiot. And also seeing the son of Biff, Griff, was a trip too. Because he's basically the same type of bully his father was in 1955, but more juiced up because of robotic implants. It was even nice to see Zemeckis do an homage to part 1 by having almost the same skateboard scene from part 1 in this movie also, but a more futuristic version of it.
Though it used to be my favorite of the trilogy, I'm starting to lean more to part 1 being my favorite, but part 2 is definitely a close second. Once again, this movie is a classic also and I highly recommend it if you loved part 1.
P.S. - From the first time I saw this move to right now as I type this... I want a friggin hover board!
what i really like about this film isn't the future-which illustrated somewhat depressing and too artificial and even the characters look unreal or too much made-up. its the fact that this film explain the first film and doc mention in this film that the date 5th november 1955 is a special CORE DATE in the time phase and in all the trilogy. a date in which doc fell and got his head beaten by the sink and then he saw the vision and idea of time traveling,a date in which marty's parents meet and fall in love(which we learn in the first film),a date in which a lightening strike the clock tower and shuting it down and then in this way the marty from first film goes back to the future, and a date that from unknown reason the old beef choose to come back and give the almanac to his young self.from the day after this date, the 3rd movie begin and in this movie we learn more about this core date 5th november and see another angle of this day that we couldn't see in the first film, angle of the other marty that comes again to this date and see the marty from the first movie. this is the amazing part of this film esepecially when the marty from the future has to do his mision-getting the almanac from bif-without disturbing the marty from the first movie making his parents fall in love. like this fictional core date i think everyone has a core date in their lives when so many important events happen, events that start alot of eras in the future and affect strongly on our lives.
the second interesting thing is the "TIME PARADOX",which is a philosophy of its own, that mentioned in the film.this paradox described by doc as something that destroy the time continum and the universe, but when u try to think what happens if the 2 martys meet and the circumstances its a complex theory of its own-beyond the films. i tried to think what happen if the martys meet and realized that if they meet and the marty from the future alter the actions of the marty from first film,he won't get back to the future(probabely by missing the lightning that strike the clock, and the marty from future wont get to the future and wont return to the past and so on....the whole film destroyed(or universe as doc mentioned)! thinking about all this circumstances is more complex then physics and other sciences,if time travel was a reality there would be a new science that deal with this. First off, let me say I don't hate this film, but compared to the "Original"&Part "III", this one fails, not because its bad, but because you really have to suspend belief big time here, like most SCI-FI fans I have always liked anything that deals with time travel, so many ideas to play with, but in reality time travel would be quite dangerous,&this film makes that clear in more ways than one, but is poorly executed&here's why....
For starters this one picks up where Part "I" left off with Doc carrying Marty&Jennifer into the future to 2015 to save their future son from being involved in a robbery that will get him life in prison, this would of course be inpulsive to stop this, but from a realistic standpoint Marty&Jennifer's removal from 1985 would have altered the future of 2015 where they would not exist because of their removal.
Secondly, let's ignore that logic for a moment, Marty buying a sports almanac in 2015 would be inpulsive for anyone, I mean hey, why not place bets in the past, right, well old Biff does this very thing by stealing the almanac&the DeLorean&goes back to 1955&gives the almanac to his younger self thus changing everything from that point foward, when he returns to 2015, he is dying, again, his actions would have altered Doc&Marty's Twin Pine mall meeting in the first film thus altering Marty's trip to 1955&their trip to the future in 2015.
Now, let's ignore that logic for a moment, the hellish 1985 is done quite well&Marty&Doc's culture shock is fun, but it should have been done differently, with Doc returning from 2015 with the almanac&the 1985 Biff going back to 1955 with the almanac,&Marty&Doc chasing him back before he could give it to himself, this would have been more plausible, again, I don't hate this one, but when dealing time-travel, you have to at least make it believeable, a pre-destination paradox is really the only way to do anything dealing with time-travel, "Star Trek" always did this quite well, as does the "Terminator" films where Arnold&Reese's trip to the past actually set up their futures,&"Star Trek" was always careful about this, as was the first&third "Back to the Future" films where nothing is really altered seriously as in the case of the first "Back to the Future" where Marty interupts his parents meeting but does manage to get them together.
Another flaw in Part "II" is the future scenes, like "TimeCop" they got it wrong, which in essence sort of kills the magic a bit, unlike "Star Trek" or the "Alien" films where the future is set hundreds of years ahead, predicting the near future is always never accurate, Kurt Russell's "Escape From New York" suffers from this as well as Kubrick's "2001" as does one of SCI-FI's best "Blade Runner" if your going to do the future, at least do it in a time where we are all gone.
I hate to nitpick, but no matter how enjoyable&fun "Back to the Future II" is, I feel they should have left the future alone, aside from this, this one is enjoyable, but Part "I"&"III" are more believeable.
This movie is all over the place, but it is fantastic every year Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd go to. First they go to 2015 where cars fly ( 6 yrs away, can we do it for real?) and they save Marty McFly Jr from jail, however a Sports Almanac that Marty from 1985 bought and left behind was taken by Grandpa Griff who goes to 1955 to give to Biff from that year and makes him an evil corrupt JR Ewing type. Fox and Lloyd return to a miserable 1985, of course discover it had to do with the Sports Almanac and all the scores of the games which Biff bet and won since he knew who would win. They 2 travel back to 1955 to get the almanac back. This is where it gets incredible with scenes from the first film shot in different perspectives now including 2 Marty McFly's the one from 1955 to save his father and the one from the corrupt 1985 to get the almanac to make 1985 'normal' again. Basically it incorporates this movie into the first film, mainly at the dance where you see McFly doing his guitar bit, while the other McFly is above him getting ready to attack Biff's friends. There are plenty of Biff and Mcfly characters everywhere. Just a non stop action fest right from the opening credits. Highly recommended. If you have never seen this, don't wait another second. Superior film making in my opinion.Excellent blend of scifi, comedy, adventure and great family fun..This DVD has bonus features like commentary , interviews, deleted scenes and is an upgrade from the box set for that reason.. I use to say that in reality all three BTTF movies are JUST ONE GREAT MOVIE splited in three...parts. The most exciting fantasy trilogy with the most clever senario ever written and awesome performances by CHRISTOPHER LLOYED // LEA TOMPSON // MICHEL FOX // THOMAS F WILSON and CRISPIN GLOVER (Appeared only in the first movie), Are here again upgraded with new dvd features and it's a must buy for all the fanatic BTTF fans. Critics and audiences didn't seem too happy with this inventive, perhaps too clever sequel to the popular 1985 comedy about a high school kid (Michael J. Fox) who travels into the past and has to bring his parents together (or lose his own existence). Director Robert Zemeckis and cast bent over backwards to add layers of time-travel complication to this follow-up, and while it surely exercises the brain it isn't necessarily funny in the same way that its predecessor was. It's well worth a visit, though, just to appreciate the imagination that went into it, particularly in a finale that has Fox's character watching his own actions from the first film.--Tom Keogh Rerations < Back to Future 2 [VHS] >

customer 's review (A Classy Old 'Horror' Film - Lewton's Best)
(What Price Medical Knowledge?)
(Well-done drama with Henry Daniell and Boris Karloff, plus cadavers, cutting and a wild ride in a stormy night)
(Based on a short story by Robert Louis Stevenson)
(Gothic tale of horror) After veiwing all nine Val Lewton DVD Horror Collection films, I thought this one - The Body Snatcher - was, by far, the best. It was actually a crime film a lot more than horror and it had a stellar cast.
Henry Daniell, Boris Karloff, Edith Atwater,Russell Wade, Sharyn Moffet and Bela Lugosi all acted well. I had forgotten that Karloff was a decent actor, not just some Frankenstein monster who couldn't deliver a line. He had a creepy voice, too, which lent itself nicely to horror films. I just found him fascinating here.
In addition, this movie had a well-known director, Robert Wise, and the story was adaption of a Robert Louis Steevenson. So, you see, this film had good bloodlines, pun intended. This was not some schlocky Ed Wood B-film. This movie is a high class affair.
A doctor (Daniell), trying to further his knowledge and needing human specimens (dead) to continue his research, has his graveyard supply cut off to him and then has to have his helper (Karloff) kill people to provide him the bodies. Meanwhile, a young and more moral student of the doctor, gets wind of what's happening and doesn't share his mentor's view that the "ends justify the means."
At any rate, this is good one. Like the other Lewton films, it's well- photographed and looks good on DVD.
This film is based on a short story by Robert Louis Stevenson. It opens on "Edinburg 1831". A blind woman is singing on the street for pennies. In a cemetery a dog will not leave his master's grave; a safeguard against grave robbers? A woman brings a young girl to see Dr. McFarlan; she has become paralyzed due to a sickness. A student can elicit the answers from this girl. She has a tumor that affects a nerve. But Dr. McFarlan cannot operate on this girl, he is too busy. There is problem in getting cadavers for the medical school. The new assistant gets a new shipment of supplies. Cash and carry, no questions asked,£10 received.
A joke about Burke and Hare shows poor taste. The doctor explains why they need the learning experience: to best educate doctors. There was no anesthesia then, no knowledge of antisepsis. Surgery was followed by cauterization, blood transfusion was unknown. Most of all there was no knowledge of the spinal column. Cabman Gray goes out on the street; he returns with another specimen. Fettis recognizes the body. [Beware of what you wish for?] Dr. McFarlan operates on the little girl, nature will do the healing. But the little girl can't walk. Joseph visits Cabman Gray to ask for money; he gets what he asked for - and more. Now Dr. McFarlan has a new problem. The housemaid reveals her secret, and tells Fettis to leave the house. There is a private interview between Gray and McFarlan [or their stunt doubles]. The cab brings another specimen to McFarlan's house. Georgina can stand to see the white horse! Dr. McFarlan no longer used a contractor for material. But he can't stop thinking about Gray. There is an ironic ending with rough justice to this story.
"Man learns through error" said Hippocrates. This low-budget film warns against science that goes against morality and law using selfishness as the justification. [Was it a warning about those Nazi experiments?] Do we still need warnings like this? The controversy about the use of human embryos goes on. [This film is a simplified version of the crimes of Burke and Hare.]
For a low-budget, B movie horror quickie, The Body Snatcher holds up remarkably well as a tightly-told, well-acted story. The horror is in the situation, not the actors' make-up or the staggering around of corpses. Corpses there are, but they're freshly dug up, and their purpose is not to grasp and choke, but to be dissected by a complex and morally ambiguous surgeon.
Dr. Wolfe MacFarlane (Henry Daniell) is a brilliant surgeon and teacher in 1831 Edinburgh. He is on the verge of medical breakthroughs involving the spine and the spinal cord. For his work, he needs fresh corpses to dissect for his research. John Gray (Boris Karloff), a cabman, provides those corpses for a price. Gray digs up the freshly interred and delivers them to MacFarlane's laboratory in the basement of the doctor's home. If the pickings are thin, Gray will also create a corpse by applying tightly his hand and finger's over a person's nose and mouth. MacFarlane, who is doing genuinely valuable work, doesn't want to know the details. And it seems Gray also has something to hold over MacFarlane. Only two or three years previously, the body snatching work of Burke and Hare had been discovered. Gray kept MacFarlane's use of the bodies a secret. While MacFarlane may be the verge of a break-through, he is repulsed by his need for Gray and by Gray's increasing familiarity. Gray enjoys his power over MacFarlane and pushes his familiarity to the limit. MacFarlane eventually forces a showdown. The climax is a clattering, rolling carriage ride through driving rain, with MacFarlane whipping the horses on, half-mad, and collapsed beside him is the pale, shuddering corpse of...well, see the movie.
For a low-budget film, the movie looks authentic as well as atmospheric. The wet, cobblestoned streets of Edinburgh gleam in the moonlight, the coal fires in the drawing-room grates cast shadows. Night scenes can cover many shortcuts, and there are a lot of night scenes in The Body Snatcher, but what we can see looks like quality.
The movie is really a duel, as director Robert Wise has said, between the two lead characters. Henry Daniell (in one of the best roles he ever had) and Boris Karloff pull off the trick of combining distaste, arrogance and mutual need. Daniell was a major character actor specializing almost exclusively in condescending or villainous types. He unfortunately, perhaps, had the kind of face that, when relaxed, just looked disdainful. With his deepset eyes and thin, mean-spirited line of a mouth, he was instantly recognizable. But he also was an excellent professional actor. When he had occasion to smile genuinely, rare in the parts he played, he could look quite warm. Karloff matches Daniell in the acting. John Gray is no monster. He is a man of great resentments who enjoys having the great Dr. MacFarlane under his thumb. He kills, but once in awhile seems to regret having to do so. He can also move quickly from false subservience to lethal violence. "It is through error that a man tries and rises. It is through tragedy he learns. All the roads of learning begin in darkness and go out into the light." Hippocrates of Gos
This film has the psychological complexity of a Val Lewton production but is a lot more graphic than most of his productions where he just implies violence. He even takes it out on innocent dogs. I feel that some one was pushing Lewton from behind to be more vicious with this film.
A young student (Russell Wade) wants to become a doctor like the great Dr. Wolfe 'Toddy' MacFarlane (Henry Daniell.) Little does he know what it will entail?
The DVD has a voiceover commentary from the late Director Robert Wise who directed "West Side Story" and "The Sound of Music." Surprisingly he said that the original basic script was written by Philip MacDonald.
Director Robert Wise using two giants of the horror genre Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi created a worthy tale of terror based on a Robert Louis Stevenson short story, "The Body Snatcher". This macabre flick takes place in 1831 Edinburgh when the study of anatomy and medicine existed in a primitive stage.
Eminent doctor and professor of a school of anatomy Dr. Macfarlane played by a prim, authoritative Henry Daniell must resort to grave robbing to provide cadavers for dissection. Long time acquaintance cabman John Gray played by a sneering Karloff has long been the supplier of these unearthed corpses. Due to their complicity in this gruesome business Karloff has a hold over the prestigious doctor.
Laws have been passed which attempt to cut down on the frequent desecration of gravesites. Dr. Macfarlane's prize student and assistant Mr. Fettes played by a naive Russel Wade has been given the job of dealing with Karloff. When Macfarlane decides to undertake a delicate operation on the spine of a crippled young girl, he needs fresh cadavers on which to practice. Fettes becomes aware that Karloff, unable to dig up graves. has resorted to killing to provide fresh bodies. He's told by Macfarlane to look the other way.
Lugosi playing the doctor's assistant Joseph, a bit part for him, schemes to blackmail Karloff when learning of his murderous ways. Needless to say, this 1945 film concludes in dire fashion for the bad guys. Rerations < Body Snatcher [VHS] >

(great ending)
(Completely disappointing)
(disappointed) In season 7 Spike is crazy, Willow returns, Dawn grows up, Buffy gets a job, the hell mouth is reopened, and more. What's not to like? This show failed on every level there is as sci fi and horror. It failed and was canceled twice by 2 networks. this is several discs of terrible. poor acting and terrible scripts abound. save your money it was so disapointing to see spike die and Anyaka too, this was a great ending to a great show. I've been a Buffy fan for a long time. I love Buffy. I loved seasons 1-6 and I really wanted to love season 7. I really really tried. I was stoked that Spike got his soul back, I was interested to see what would happen with all the characters ... and what happened? A big fat zippo. I mean, primary problem: you can't kill the first evil, which is the big bad, so the entire plot line was pointless. And then all the episodes were just insipid. Spike had that awesome monologue where Buffy learns he has a soul and I thought "yay, this season's going to get better!" and then it never did. And Andrew was just annoying as HELL which says nothing of how annoying all the little potential slayers are ... or how annoying Buffy is with her weekly big speeches. That's triple annoying throughout the entire season.
I know if you're a Buffy fan like I am it's difficult to skip a season of anything ... but I would really recommend it here ... just stick with the end of Season 6 ... that's how Buffy should be remembered. well i love all the buffy season this one to but was disappointed on how the season ended and that it ended plus in season seven buffy really doesnt have a romance like she does in all the seasons Buffy is sixteen years old and is the "chosen one" . She gets to kill vampires because it is her destiny to do so. She had a bad reputation at her old school in Los Angeles because she had burned the gym down. The principal at her new school at first rips up her records and then tapes her records back together again. Buffy tries to explain that the gym at her old school had to be burned down because it was full of vampires! Buffy and her mom just want a fresh start in their new suburban California home where the good part of town is half a block away from the bad part of town. In her new high school Buffy meets an eccentric librarian who knows that Buffy is the "chosen one". At first the librarian scares her away by showing her a book about vampires but then she returns to the library knowing that the librarian can help her out with fighting off vampires and other supernatural things.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA UPC: 024543233312 Manufacturer No: 2233331 Rerations < Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Complete Seventh Season (Slim Set) >

(Except for a few quotes, it's really forgettable.)
(A True 80's Classic!) 4 stars movie. 2 stars letter boxed. I bought this to replace my earlier edition to have it play 16:9 on load but it is still letterboxed. Image doesn't want to spend the money to give us an enhanced remastered DVD but they will change the cover to trick us. True, not a masterpiece but fun to watch. 5.1 sound and letterboxed, Incongruous. I liked this movie years ago when it first came out. Now watching it in the Blue-ray is wild. Its truly amazon how the affect of the back ground just pops out of the screen. I'm happy I chose this movie, I recommend it. certaining different from the second one, as i own and seen the second first before buying this one.
it very good and i rather enjoy it, there are some great scene, and worth buying if you own the second one, as they are both completey different and worth comparing. I honestly don't know why everyone likes this movie so much. Sure, it had some cute moments, but otherwise...eh. It's never kept my interest very long, and I can't even remember how the movie begins or ends. Everything about this film was just really plain.
I do like how WALL-E looks like Johnny 5 though. I just saw this film tonight after not seeing it for about twenty years. I was nine when this movie first came out in '86 and as a child it is one of my favorites. Films like Short Circuit are more than just movies for children of the 80's decade. This movie signifies a culture of movies that we could truly identify with and that made the world of 80's cinema unlike anything else Hollywood's ever created.
Short Circuit is a gem and if you love family entertainment then you will enjoy and appreciate it. Remember, this was in the mid-eighties before outrageous, computer-enhanced special effects, sex, violence and loads of unnecessary curse words took over the SCI-Fi/Action genre. Still, back then, Johnny Five was before his time. This is as clean as they come and one of the sweetest films ever made. If it weren't for a few curse words this movie would be a G.
I'm sure fans of anything 80's will love this movie and have already seen it multiple times. If you haven't, check it out but do not expect Short Circuit to be like the action films of today. It's entertaining, silly and at some points cheesy but that's things we loved about 80's films. So, if you're up for good clean fun then I definitely recommend Short Circuit. And if you're an 80's kid like me, this should be a film added to your DVD collection. When a laser-armed Department of Defense robot named Number 5 gets zapped by a lightning bolt, he "malfunctions" and starts spouting peace slogans and developing a human-like consciousness. Naturally, the newly pacifist machine wants out of the military and escapes. As a frantic search for the creature begins, Number 5 settles down in his new home, with a gentle young woman named Stephanie (Ally Sheedy), who has every intention of holding on to her find, teaching Number 5 about popular culture and other mysteries of life. Thoroughly convinced that the robot is alive, she develops a strong bond with the creature. In order to prevent his capture by the military--who view Number 5 as an armed-and-dangerous weapon--the pair must convince his inventor, a reclusive scientist named Newton Crosby (Steve Guttenberg), that he is truly alive and more than just a metal machine. The highly innovative robot created for director John Badham's film brings to mind other lovable science fiction icons such as E.T. and R2D2 from STAR WARS. John Badham's family-oriented adventure comedy, though obviously hatched in the wake ofE.T.andStar Wars, manages to create its own identity through a sweet tone and an affectionate sense of fun. Military robot Number 5, a well-armed killing machine, is zapped by lightning during a test and emerges with a consciousness, curiosity, a wacky sense of humor, and a new peace-loving philosophy. Ally Sheedy (who debuted in Badham's hitWarGames) is the animal lover whose home is sanctuary for a zoo-full of strays and who adopts the adolescent robot. Steve Guttenberg is the goofy but reclusive robotics designer who goes off in search of his creation to save him from the gun-happy army. The mix of gentle slapstick and innocent romance makes for a harmless family comedy. It veers toward the terminally cute, what with 5's hyperactive antics and E.T.-ish voice, and the mangled grammar of Guttenberg's East Indian sidekick (Fisher Stevens) threatens to become offensive, but Badham's breezy direction keeps the film on track. Sheedy and Guttenberg deliver spirited and engaging performances, but most importantly the robot emerges as a real person. Give credit to designer Syd Mead, an army of puppeteers and robotics operators, and the cartoony voice of Tim Blaney: Number 5 is alive.--Sean Axmaker Rerations < Short Circuit >

customer 's review (Good film)
(The Mummy!)
(Great movie!)
(The Word Is 'Fun')
(The Mummy-DVD) This is still the best of the 3 mummy movies. I thought the film looked great in Blu-Ray. Very crisp and detailed. I always liked the chemistry between Rachel Weisz (one of my favorite actresses) and Brendan Fraser. The special effects throughout the film are very good. Sometimes the acting and script is a little too cheesy, and the John Hannah character can be very annoying (he plays Rachel Weisz' brother in the film), but the filmmakers were obviously going for the Indiana Jones "matinee" feel so it's forgivable. Not a great film but fun. I believe Rachel Weisz carries this film, however, and it wouldn't have worked without her. I lost my original purchase of this and had to buy a replacement, one of the very few movies I watch over and over and enjoy it each time! It's the Mummy need I say more? Great movie for the family (except may be really little kids) and the sequel is just as good as the original.
It seems like a long time ago when this came out, but I remember it being the first DVD I had ever bought sight unseen, meaning I had never seen the film in the theater or on tape. I was pleased. I got what I had hoped for: a fun, special-effects extravaganza.
This was an Indiana Jones-Jason And The Argonauts combination adventure story. It's cartoon-like in nature with an absurd swashbuckling hero, outlandish action scenes and the occult theology that filmmakers love so much. (The Mummy has God-like powers, even producing Old Testament plagues.)
However, the film is too long by about 10-15 minutes and there is simply too much action and too much noise. The film needs more lulls.
Brendan Fraser is pretty good as the Indiana Jones figure and Rachel Weisz, a new face at the time, makes a solid impression in her debut. The DVD offered a sharp picture which highlighted a number of jaw-dropping scenes. It's pure escapist fun and not meant to be anything else. As in many cases, I think this was the best in this modern series, which now numbers three, I believe. I haven't received the item above, yet have had two emails to review it. If you've sent it, please verify that it has really gone out. If not, please don't send me another email. Thanks. Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 11/28/2006 Run time: 125 minutes Rating: Pg13 If you're expecting bandaged-wrapped corpses and a lurching Boris Karloff-type villain, then you've come to the wrong movie. But if outrageous effects, a hunky hero, and some hearty laughs are what you're looking for, the 1999 version ofThe Mummyis spectacularly good fun. Yes, the critics called it "hokey," "cheesy," and "pallid." Well, the critics are unjust. Granted, the plot tends to stray, the acting is a bit of a stretch, and the characters occasionally slip into cliché, but who cares? When that action gets going, hold tight--those two hours just fly by.
The premise of the movie isn't that far off from the original. Egyptologist and general mess Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) discovers a map to the lost city of Hamunaptra, and so she hires rogue Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser) to lead her there. Once there, Evelyn accidentally unlocks the tomb of Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo), a man who had been buried alive a couple of millennia ago with flesh-eating bugs as punishment for sleeping with the pharaoh's girlfriend. The ancient mummy is revived, and he is determined to bring his old love back to life, which of course means much mayhem (including the unleashing of the 10 plagues) and human sacrifice. Despite the rather gory premise, this movie is fairly tame in terms of violence; most of the magic and surprise come from the special effects, which are glorious to watch, although Imhotep, before being fully reconstituted, is, as one explorer puts it, rather "juicy." Keep in mind this film is as much comedy as it is adventure--those looking for a straightforward horror pic will be disappointed. But for those who want good old-fashioned eye-candy kind of fun,The Mummyranks as one of choicest flicks of 1999. --Jenny Brown Rerations < The Mummy [HD DVD] >

(Finally... a sequel!!!!)
(Good story but uneven)
(FANTASTIC! "Not Your Father's Frankenstein")
(Koontz at his best) victor helios/dr frankenstein is a great bad guy I LOVE DECALION love-love-love i like carson o'connor and michael maddison the good policemen good modern day..updated version of FRANKENSTEIN
U MUST READ BOOKS 1,2 and 3 WHEN IT COMES OUT in a few months I read Frankenstein about twenty years ago. I always thought it was a stand alone novel. The idea of a sequel never really crossed my mind. Koontz and Anderson bring back the magic of that incredible book while also adding a new ideas to the story that makes it hard to resist and impossible to put down.
This book is incredible. It takes place in present time so you get to see what your friends from original Frankenstein are doing over 200 years later. The story centers around two detectives that are investigating a series of murder cases were body parts are being taken from the victims. They soon realize that one of the victims is not human. The other main stories centers around two men one named Victor Helious who is living in New Orleans. What kind I say? He is kind of a scientist. The other story is about a man... a rather large man who is relocating back to New Orleans once he finds out that Victor Helious is still alive.
Dean Koontz and Kevin J Anderson tell a great story that not only continues the classic story but also introduces the content to a new generation. There is also has a mystery aspect to it that could almost stand alone even without the Frankenstein element.
Grade: A I enjoyed the story but there were uneven parts that didn't contribute to the story and just felt thrown in. In addition, I was often glad that I was reading this story on my Kindle because I needed to look up several unfamiliar words and some words were so far outside of common use that they were not even in the Kindle dictionary. Don't be turned off by the title. I put off reading this book for several months because I thought it was about a tall green guy w/ metal diodes sticking out of his neck.
No, this book is about two people who are police partners&they get mixed up in the middle of clones people in the city of New Orleans.
A SUPER page turner chock-fulla humor&great action. One of the best I've read so far!
You WON'T regret buying this book&as soon as you're done, you'll want to jump right into book 2, so go ahead&buy that while you're at the store buying book 1 =) Dean Koontz' three-part take on the Frankestein story is some of the best work he has ever written, very fast paced and addictive this book is impossible to put down. I read the last 250 pages of it in one sitting it was that good.
Highly reccomended. From the celebrated imagination of Dean Koontz comes a powerful reworking of one of the classic stories of all time. If you think you know the story, you know only half the truth. Get ready for the mystery, the myth, the terror, and the magic of…
Dean Koontz's Prodigal Son
Every city has secrets. But none as terrible as this. His name is Deucalion, a tattooed man of mysterious origin, a sleight-of-reality artist who’s traveled the centuries with a secret worse than death. He arrives as a serial killer stalks the streets, a killer who carefully selects his victims for the humanity that is missing in himself. Detective Carson O’Connor is cool, cynical, and every bit as tough as she looks. Her partner Michael Maddison would back her up all the way to Hell itself–and that just may be where this case ends up. For the no-nonsense O’Connor is suddenly talking about an ages-old conspiracy, a near immortal race of beings, and killers that are more—and less—than human. Soon it will be clear that as crazy as she sounds, the truth is even more ominous. For their quarry isn’t merely a homicidal maniac—but his deranged maker.

(Really great!)
(great book)
(One of my favorite series ever!)
(Loved it!!) I loved this book! It is a great read! I finished it in 1 day and I usually don't read that much. I neglected my family because it was so addicting. It is worth a buy. I will keep this one and read it again! I love this book! It was one of the best books I've ever read! The characters are easy to connect with.
I would recommend it!
love this book and the other one that goes with the series i would read it again! This is embarrassing, but Secret Circle is really my favorite series. I first read these when I was 12. They were and are quite addictive. I picked them back up a few months ago, not really remembering much about them. Surprisingly, I still love them after 15+ years. I think it is a must read for any teen. It has a really sweet romance, that isn't at all dark or graphic. The characters are all well developed and complex for a YA read. I love this book. I read both of the books in two days (which is great for me). This is one to keep in your library at home. Make sure you get both at the same time because you will want to pick up the second right away.

(Great Read!)
(Better than the first!!)
(A must read series)
(Loved it!!) I expected it to to be a good book but L.J really tied this one up nicely. I have read some of her other books but this one is one of my favorites. It picks up right where the other ones leave off, which is right after Cassie went with the twins to get pumpkins. I really love the subtle romance between her and Adam. I foud out that i really loved all of the 12 secret circle charcaters individually and you'll find something to relate to most of them. Faye is still up to no good and the wants the skull's power for herself. but when because of Cassie's actions her own grandmother has an accident... Cassie stands up to Faye and refuses to be her "captive," as Faye put it.
This whole series kept me involved! I loved the characters! I have actually read the series a couple of times, and will read again! I really wnjoyed this one, i read through it faster than the first and was so sad when it ended!! I wish there were more to this series, hopefully in the future maybe ;) This is embarrassing, but Secret Circle is really my favorite series. I first read these when I was 12.
