Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Extremely Funny!!!) 『After hearing Mike Nelson's hilarious commentaries on 'Night of the Living Dead' and 'Carnival of Souls' I wanted more. Mike, Crow, and Tom are stuck in space on a ship and forced by Dr. Clayton Forrester to watch bad movies from the 50's. This time, they must watch This Island Earth. They come up with witty and wacky comments as they spoof the movie. This Island Earth is about a doctor named Cal Meacham who is asked for help from an alien named Exeter. Exeter and his group are from the planet, Metaluna. Cal and his ex-girlfriend try to help defend their planet in a war against the evil Zagons. (overall satisfied) 『My only complaint is I waited way too long before receiving the movie I ordered. (Purchased Sept 1, received Oct 6)』
(Decent incarnation of MST3K) 『The Bottom Line:
The film version of Mystery Science Theater 3000 has some great lines and can produce gales of laughter, but the scenes on the Satellite of Love are boring and never funny and the movie starts feeling a bit long even at under 80 minutes; if you're a fan of the show check it out but expect a bit of an uneven performance from everyone's favorite wisecracking movie-watchers.

(Soooo funny!) 『This movie is hysterical. It stays true to the original show and is just great in general.』 『The cult television show (in which a hapless space explorer and his robot pals are forced to watch and deliver a hilarious running commentary on bad movies) makes a successful transition to the big screen as Mike and the 'bots lay waste to the '50s sci-fi yarnThis Island Earth(a painfully stiff would-be epic that's actually a cut above the usualMST3Kfare). While ardent fans may be a little miffed that more advantage isn't taken of the expanded theatrical venue (aside from a tad more scatological humor than usual, the content here would fit in comfortably as a regular episode of the series), the nonstop, hyper-literate salvo of comedy riffs that run the gamut from references to Tommy Chong's backyard to Yes album covers more than make up for any conceptual complacency. Be prepared to laugh till it aches.--Andrew Wright』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Loud....crazy....fun.....very few true facts) 『It's a fun and wild movie but, Al didn't cut anyone's throat on a train, Killer Burke was a big man so, his police officer's cap wouldn't have been too large, the mafia boy's, Johnny S and his buddy didn't die from a beating with baseball bats at a formal party, Jason R. is too tall and skinny to play Al, and in the last scene, whose grave was in that shot? Al's grave is not next to a drive road in Mt. Carmel and that headstone is about a quarter of the size of his. The bullets, noise, and dry humor make up for a few lost facts.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Classic thriller) 『I saw this, for the first time, within the last 2 years, and I agree: It is a well done shocker. Katharine Ross and Paula Prentiss are excellent in the lead actress roles. I thought Patrick O'Neal as the head of the 'men's association' and the actress who plays the psychiatrist who Ross has an appointment with are also standouts. Nanette Newman, Peter Masterson, Franklin Cover (who also played a character in "The Jeffersons" TV series) and the rest of the cast all give good performances. 』
(Great place to move to...) 『Stepford is a great place to live. Clean air. Good schools. Happy, smiling people having pool parties, being nice and making lots of brownies. The movie is legend and while everybody knows what is going to happen you still can't help but enjoy the thrill as Joanna slowly solves the mystery of the town. And by doing so ends up the next victim. The DVD has trailers, interviews and bios. A must, new or used.』
(Newshawk DVDs) 『I remembered that the original "Stepford Wives" movie had been a great and fairly scary picture, so I bought the newer version on DVD a few years ago -- and was very disappointed. The newer version just didn't capture the mood or tone of the original. That DVD went went into a cardboard box filled with other of my "lesser" DVDs. A few weeks ago, I was going through that box to determine which DVDs I would keep and which ones I would give or trade away. When I came across my copy of the newer "Stepford Wives." I put into my discard box. Then, for some reason, I decided to keep it -- and order a DVD of my beloved original "The Stepford Wives" and some other DVDs. When my order was delivered I watched the original for the first time in many years. It was just as I remembered, It was still the great movie even if it didn't seem as scary as I remembered. The acting, lighting and mood was wonderful, especially since it was in black and white It was thrilling -- and without the gore every few minutes that seem to be required by so many modern movies to create thrills and chills. A few days later I decided to watch the newer "Stepford Wives." As I watched the DVD I realized I was watching the same movie and, while the mood was so different from the original, it was a delightful movie. The colors added the tone of the movie and I realized I was watching an almost-satire of the original. It was an inspired version of the original without a fault, especially with the casting. The light touch was perfect. Now, instead of loving just one movie, I have two versions of the same and two favorite movies to watch to my heart's content. 』
(The Stepford Wives is an American Classic) 『I love this film. This is film-making at its American Classic best. There is so much depth to this film. And the subtleties are amazing. I've seen it more than once and it really does have a lot of layers. Maybe, as a previous review indicated, it seems slow-paced compared to the movies we're accustomed to seeing now. However, if you watch closely there are a lot of things that are revealed but not underscored in a heavy-handed fashion. Joanna insists her husband finish doing the dishes as she does other kitchen chores. Joanna is asked if she's ever made it in front of a fireplace by her husband and she replies "Not with you." Joanna was a strong and opinionated woman, and that obviously grated on her weak-willed husband. The reasons he loved her to being with are also the reasons he plots to replace her.
I also really enjoyed the documentary that sheds some light on the behind-the-scenes casting and writing issues, such as learning Diane Keaton was originally to play Joanna but dropped out, and master-screenwriter William Goldman wrote a draft of the script and fought with producers and was fired.
To me, the plot's seemingly slow pace actually furthers the central theme - one way or another, moving to Stepford is going to envelop Joanna either like quicksand or the more horrifying ultimate truth. Joanna even unwittingly contributes to her own demise, allowing herself to be studied by the guys from the Mens' Association. By the time Joanna realizes what is happening, it is too late.
I tend to think of this film as more of a European film in some ways, rather than 1970's style filmmaking, because they don't do blatant exposition. They allow the viewer to see the clues and arrive at their own conclusion. It is a matter of treating the audience's intelligence with respect.』
(Nicely drawn allegorical suspense movie) 『This film certainly deserves to be rated a classic for the imprint it has left on popular culture alone. Everybody knows what a Stepford Wife is even if most people haven't seen the film. And as a straightforward suspense horror it belongs in the premier league. Perhaps a little slow in the first half but more than making up for it in the second.
In terms of its message, I found it wasn't so easy to interpret. Is it simply, as others here suggest, an allegory parodying the resentment felt by men after the first feminist revolutions of the 60's? Of course we are supposed to identify with the women in the story and especially the lead heroine, the suspense and drama of the film wouldn't work at all otherwise. But perhaps we are entitled to feel a little bit of empathy with the menfolk of Stepford and their motivations. In particular the poor Walter, stressed to the hilt through working non-stop to provide for his children only for his self-indulgent wife to pursue her egotistical and vain dreams of becoming a famous photographer. Is the allegory more subtle - are we really looking at the disorientation of men, and are the Stepford wives merely experiencing what it feels like to have your identity, expectations and certainties overturned almost over night?
Actually, I'm inclined to see the film as merely a well made satirical portent of the possible dangers of a vengeful male backlash against the recently won gains of feminism. It must be remembered that in the 1970's it wasn't clear at all what the eventual outcome of the great gender war would be. Most of the men in the film are cold, calculating and evil. The only sympathetic male character is Walter and he comes across as much of a manipulated victim to the 'Men's Association' as the women do. Any feminist should delight in the carefully charicatured mysogny on display, from the mens' 'objectifying' picture drawing to the dismissal of the lead character's conspiracy paranoia as merely an over emotional hissy fit.
We now know that womenkind decisively won the 20th century sex war, unless or until Islam one day re-takes the west for the forces of patriarchy. The ending of the film, where all the women parade contentedly around the supermarket aisles with their trolleys, so dutiful and robotic that they do not even get sexually distracted at the sight of a black man, must strike most 21st century viewers as both unbelivable and kitschy.
But perhaps the dream of having women who once again accept their natural place in society (without having to resort to a neolithic religion) is not so fanciful after all. Feminism arrived late in Japan - it's first devasting effects (breakdown of the family, spiralling youth delinquency, horrendous abortion rates, the progressive retardation of the arts and sciences etc) are only just being felt and the first anti-feminist backlash only just beginning. But whilst Japan is behind the west in the social effects of feminism, it is years ahead of the west in terms of robotics. The most advaced and life like androids in the world were recently unveiled at a science fair in Tokyo - they can talk - very politely. They will do whatever their male inventors and programmers tell them to do. They are beautiful...and they are female...
』 『Ira Levin's scary novel about forced conformity in a small Connecticut town made for this compelling 1975 thriller. Katharine Ross stars as a city woman who moves with her husband to Stepford and is startled by how perpetually happy many of the local women seem to be. Her search for an answer reveals a plot to replace troublesome real wives with more accommodating fake ones (not unlike the alien takeover inInvasion of the Body Snatchers). The closer she gets to the truth, the more danger she faces--not to mention the likelihood that the men in town intend to replace her as well. Screenwriter William Goldman (Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) and director Bryan Forbes (King Rat) made this a taut, tense semiclassic with a healthy dose of satiric wit.--Tom Keogh』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Obscure but fun) 『Graphics: I thought the graphics were good. I firmly align myself as a retro gamer, but the graphics in horror games are one place where I can easily concede a point or two. I thought that the backgrounds were pretty slick; creepy too.
Music: I don't put a lot of stock in my game music (which I feel bad about because someone's hard work goes into it, but it's not one of my big focuses). I vaguely remember thinking that the music was genre appropriate though.
Story (&voice): I feel voice work in games tends to be lacking. My only problem with it was that the script was a passable Sci-fi/horror flick but the voicing was 1 or 2 grades below. Let's face it, they don't get a lot of the super voice talents for video games (think Roger Bumpass or Venus Terzo).
Replay: The puzzles won't give you much trouble on successive runs, but I'll probably go through it again just because I really like all of the other aspects of the game.
Fun: Amazing if you like Sci-fi/horror. If you don't, you may not take a shine to the zombies and blood&creep smeared decor (so why are you looking at getting it anyway?)
I think I may have paid the FULL retail price, roughly to the tune of $30-40, but I adore this game and consider it money well spent.』

pros 2-player co-op move and shoot(can walk and shoot at the same time) good cutsence design easy for new gamers good price
cons even with the 480p c. cables it only displays at 480i broken storyline the graphic where not upgrade for the wii 』
(I had tons of fun) 『I'm no video game connoisseur, but I had a lot of fun with this game. It was challenging enough that I couldn't speed right through it, but I also didn't get stuck anywhere. I enojyed the graphics and don't have any complaints on the controls. I'm a big Resident Evil fan and while it's not as good, it definitely had enough similarities that I really enjoyed it.』
(Meh kinda in the middle) 『The plot is kinda murky. I expect a decent plot out of games in this genre. Maybe I'm too used to Resident Evil and Silent Hill. However , the puzzles are fun to get through. I feel the battle system is weak however. So it cancels out. The atmosphere is good nut then the character acting is pretty miserable.
Basically, this game should be better than it is.』

But I've also been playing House of Dead and Res Evil Umbrella Chronicles, so I know a little bit about survival horror games that aren't so great. But Obscure is awful. It starts out so dark you can't even see what is there. I walked arond in circles for ten minutes trying to find a way out. Then you are suddenly flashed back to college and the whole scene becomes a drug induced blur. If you get motion sick from games at all, forget this one! Lousy controls, horrible voice acting (made me feel like I was watching one of those teeny bop horror remakes), no fun.』 『Two years ago at Leafmore High a group of young teenages were trapped inside their school and hunted by monsters that had been released by the maniac principal. This game is very violent and it makes Mark of Kri look like an T-rated game by comparison. Don't get me wrong I like violent video games I just can't stomach graphic or very realistic depictions of violence. This game is more disturbing than any horror movie I've seen lately(13 Ghosts).
If I wanted to be depressed or disturbed I'll watch the news! This game is not for sensitive people or those who are squeamish! Only buy this game if you enjoy a blood and gory fest! Parents don't get game for your kids or teens this game is rated M for a reason!』
(Manhunt 2) 『A Walk Through LifeManhunt two is no way near as good as the first one it's an average game and what spoils it is the executions. On the first one you could see them clearly but on Manhunt 2 the kills are all distorted. At the end of each level you do not get a rating like you did on the first one this takes some of the thrill out of the game, I was anticipating a much better sequel.』
(better than the first!) 『so my 360 finally gave me the dredded red ring of death and as i'm waiting for it to get repaired, i have my trusty ps2 to keep me busy. right now i'm re-playing manhunt 2.
i love it.
much better than the first installment.
i know that i'm definitely in the minority here and that's fine, but here are my reasons:
1. the story. daniel lamb has escaped from a mental institution, and is trying to piece together his life and his reality. this subject matter makes me want to keep playing until the end in order to find out what happens. in the first manhunt, even though i played it through to the end, i really couldn't care less about the character james earl jones- errr, i mean cash.
2. i LOVE the filters!!!! i agree that censorship sucks, but i have to give rockstar some props here: they took the dreaded AO rating and dealt with it in the most creative way possible. many people say, that you cannot see anything when a kill happens- i say, if you are having trouble figuring out what is going on, you are blind! the filters ADD to the gruesome violence as it puts you in lambs mind as the killings are taking place. this is how he's seeing the violence in his mind! imo, i've seen unedited/unfiltered manhunt 2 kills on youtube, and i gotta say, that they don't look nearly as good.
3. area specific kills are genius! and also jumping through the air from on top of a roof or trash can with a crowbar in hand and landing right on top of a specific enemy is totally rewarding to see!
4. no frustrating moments. i'm re-playing the game on "insane" difficulty, and while harder than i remember manhunt 2 being, it is still a pleasure to play. i remember parts of manhunt 1 where there was a gigantic learning curve simply because of spawn points, bad a.i., or bad level design. manhunt 2 has none of these problems.
i know that a lot of people are probably going to write hate letters, or at least say that they feel differently, and as i said before, that's fine. but really read what i'm saying, and take another look at the game before you judge. 』
(FUN!) 『I've been playing this game for a couple of days now, I'm almost finished, while waiting for gta4, and I must say I am happy. I am having so much fun! Maybe the first "Manhunt" had a better story (more paranoia and panic), but this one is easier to play. PS2 graphics are never again going to impress us, but I still find the environments very creepy and nice, and the characters look good. The level design is good, and varied (and twisted), and I know lots of people complain about the gun-missions, but I think they're great! All in all a fun ride. Oh, and for the best experience: Play alone at night...』 『Manhunt 2 PS2』

This is far too dark, and scary, for most young children, or even older children.

(Zombie Island Scooby) 『For a cartoon featurette, this one reallly stands out. Mostly because it's not the usual hijinks of the Mystery Machine crew battling bad guys dressed as goons to commit crime and meyhem. This time the spooks are surprisingly real, even though it takes some convincing from the fab four and the famous pooch. As usual, the haunts and creeps are looked at from the disbelieving view until the forms take shape of real occurrences. Even the songs that set up the scenes refer to past ghost and ghouls found as always have been "fake". Which makes this round of investigation more chilling when the creeps and haunted settings are true blue to the source. Although the place located is refered to Zombie Island, there are alot of fun things on the way, including fiesty pigs, attacking alligators, and a swarm of lively cats. In fact, the reference here to cats and cat people almost steal the storyline away from the fact that the zombies are indeed the good guys, and the catatonic beings the real villains. This leads to frightening confrontations with really violent night creatures that mean business in fulfilling their mission of darkness. Also, if anyone has seen the original Creature From The Black Lagoon, there is a nice little scene of a riverboat driver that is the spitten image of the one in the famous black and white movie. Definitely one for the halloween movie collection, cartoon or not.』 『Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Velma, Daphne and Fred reunite to solve the most frightfully funny mystery of their careers. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (obscure but amazing vampire-themed film) 『This is probably one of George Romero's lesser known films, but I think it's one of his best(he has also said it's one of his favorites). It's about a young man who may or may not be a vampire, and his struggle to find a place for himself.... To say more would spoil the movie, which I won't do. I recommend tracking down Anchor Bay's 1999 release, which contains the original full-screen format of the film AND a John Amplas commentary. The 2004 Lion's Gate release is an artificially created widescreen(which actually removes more of the image), and no longer contains the Amplas commentary. Romero completists like me will probably just end up buying both versions. ;)』
(Color Me Blood Red...) 『Martin (John Amplas) is a lad with a serious problem. He simply must kill and drink the blood of his victims. Is he a vampire? A serial killer w/ an interesting twist? A compulsive blood addict? We are left to decide this for ourselves. Martin moves in with his cousin Cuda (Lincoln Maazel), who is totally convinced of Martin's vampirism. Is he correct, or just an overly zealous religious fanatic? Cuda bombards Martin with all the tired old anti-vampire stuff of legend, like crosses, garlic, mirrors, etc. to no avail. Martin fears none of these things. He is a complex individual who just might be schizophrenic, as his b&w "flashback" sequences could imply. But then again, he may be nosferatu as well! Either way, Martin is a murderer. His prey are drugged with hypodermics, then stripped and drained of their precious red fluid via razor blade. Martin is very careful about not getting caught, covering his tracks well in an age before DNA technology and superior forensics. I really enjoyed this movie. MARTIN is one of George A. Romero's forgotten classics (like THE CRAZIES), and deserves to be in every horror collector's crypt! ...』
("A Vampire for Our Age of Unbelief") 『"Heir to the Blood Lust"
Horror master George Romero's 1976 film MARTIN is one of those studies in ambiguity where the edges of reality get pretty fuzzy. John Amplas delivers an engaging and affecting performance as the titular character, a young man who believes himself to be the victim of a family curse in which one member is every so often born as Nosferatu (i.e., a vampire). Romero's script, however, abandons traditional vampire lore--Martin isn't bothered too much by sunlight or Christian crosses, he eats garlic, and instead of fangs, he uses razor blades to access the precious crimson fluid of his victims. So is Martin actually a vampire, or just a severely disturbed young man? What, really, is the distinction? After all, he IS killing people and he IS drinking his victims' blood--so what if he doesn't have fangs? And his elderly cousin, steeped in the ways of the old country, definitely believes, and HE is determined to save Martin's soul or else destroy him.
Films like this don't come along too often, and they rarely come out of Hollywood. Produced a few years before DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978), the first sequel to his magnum opus NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1968), MARTIN is one of Romero's more thoughtful and thought-provoking works. Characters stripped of cinematic romanticism, gritty on-location shooting in Pennsylvania suburbs, and brilliant use of grainy black-and-white footage for flashback sequences--actually, are they flashbacks, or has Martin blurred reality with sequences from his favorite films?--help to create a moving and realistic portrait of a young man who, in spite of his murderous habit, is both sympathetic and genuine.
The influence of this film on later indie filmmakers is obvious, most notably on the relative newbie Larry Fessenden. Indeed, Fessenden's 1997 work HABIT would make a nice companion piece--or perhaps the second of a double feature--for Romero's MARTIN, as both offer a slice from the life of a bloodsucker without making it really clear whether or not the preternatural is involved. In actuality, the two films differ in point of view only. MARTIN tells the story basically through the vampire's eyes; HABIT has viewers following things from the victim's standpoint.
The Anchor Bay DVD edition of MARTIN offers a good transfer of the film in the 1.33:1 Academy Ratio. An excellent film that most genre fans will find is well worth the price of admission.』
(Murderous Martin) 『Martin, a very early film directed by George Romero, is the very definition of an unsung classic horror film. Released on a shoestring budget at the end of the 70's and dismissed by audiences as"just another slasher film", audiences missed out on a razor sharp black comedy sprinkled with moments of an ultra-sadistic personality study. Martin just doens't believe he's a vampire. Emotionally and morally, he sucks the blood and life out of all those who trust him and are around him, a perfect allogory for the decade to come. Martin deserves to be seen and appreciated by the masses at this time, if only to observe one of the most ironic and startling final scenes in the history of horrific cinema.』
(A Masterpiece) 『I saw this film months ago but it still lingers in my memory. I checked it out because I very much enjoyed Romero's zombie films. I already knew many consider it a classic.
From the brooding opening to the unexpected shock of the ending, this films delivers non-stop tension. The disturbed (and disturbing) main character acts wonderfully. Actually, the whole cast is fine.
I recommend it wholly.
Bottom line: As may be expected, there is some blood.』 『Martin (John Amplas) is a modern sort of vampire--he gains his victims' cooperation with the use of a hypodermic needle instead of hypnotism, and uses razors in the place of fangs. "There's no real magic," he says. "There's no real magic, ever." He says this to his elderly Romanian cousin, Tati Cuda (Lincoln Maazel), a true believer in the old religion, and self-appointed keeper of Martin, who threatens to do away with the boy if the vampirism doesn't stop. According to Cuda, the boy is actually 85 years old--young for a vampire. Truly, the supernatural element of the film is always at odds with psychological explanations that make Martin out to be a sexually disturbed teen, not an ancient bloodsucker. Martin's vampiric episodes are intercut with sepia footage of similar exploits from some gothic era, which may either be Martin's memories or his imagination; take your pick. Garlic, sunlight, mirrors--these are devices of Hollywood, and have no effect on a hypo-toting vampire like Martin, as he explains the rules in his role of frequent call-in guest on a radio talk show where he's known as "The Count." These ambiguities are left teasingly unresolved by the film, which is more interested in establishing the relationship between the traditional vampire and the modern-day psycho. Along with the film's narrative economy, these ambiguities makeMartinRomero's midnight-movie masterpiece.
At the very end Romero borrows an image from Carl Theodore Dreyer's classic silent filmOrdet, ratifying a moment of religious ritual. Knowing this as you watch the film only deepens the chill.--Jim Gay』

The arcs and twists are swift, some expected some surprising. Watching and guessing is the fun. Desertion of the island of it's locals and tourists is explained you have to be paying attention. I avoided spoilers on this show until I seen it, I won't put any in my review. Very good show, what I expected my only dissapointment was the final credits. Get it, watch it, have fun!』 『Harper's Island, the guiltiest pleasure of the 2009 summer TV season, is part Agatha Christie and partFriday the 13th. This cleverly plotted 13-episode CBS mystery event invites return visits to the eponymous island where a good portion of an ill-fated wedding party will not survive to celebrate the happy couple's first anniversary.Harper's Islandbegins with a "Whap" and goes out with a "Sigh" (each onomatopeaic episode title replicates the sound of a victim's demise). Here's the set-up: Pauper Henry (Christopher Gorham) and princess "Trish" (Katie Cassidy) have invited family and friends to Harper's Island, located 37 miles off the coast of Seattle, for their nuptials. Seven years earlier, John Wakefield slaughtered six people there. These were the first murders in the history of the island. A title card warns us they will not be the last. One by one, episode by episode, a killer (or killers) methodically picks off the wedding guests in grisly and gory fashion. Some characters are more expendable than others, and those who are dispatched early don't get the chance to make much of an impression (cousin Ben doesn't even make it out of the dock in the opening episode), but as the mystery unfolds and the body count escalates, viewers become more emotionally invested in those who survive the longest. For Abby Mills (Elaine Cassidy) this is all kinds of personal. Abby, Henry's once-inseparable childhood friend, has not been back to the island since Wakefield, presumed dead, slaughtered her mother. She is reunited with her estranged father, the sheriff (Jim Beaver), and Jimmy (C.J. Thomason), the boy she left behind.Harper's Islandwill keep viewers guessing until its final twist, which is a doozy, although somewhat suspect. But until then, the series is an effective horror show that gets under your skin with its attractive cast, soap-opera dramatics, tantalizing red herrings, and quality kills (although nothing in the show is as creepy as the unnerving little girl named Madison). (Basketball, according to the Looney Tunes) 『Who would have thought that Looney Tunes and Basketball would be a pretty good mix? Bugs and Daffy and friends are about to be taken as slaves for Mister Swackhammer, the proprietor for Moron Mountain. They must defeat Swackhammer's tiny minions with a game of basketball. This would be easier than expected (seeing that it was Bugs and his friends' idea in the first place), but the minions have stolen the talents of Basketball all-stars (including Patrick Ewing and Charles Barkley) and have become the "Monstars"! They are now stronger and bigger than they were before. So now, the Looney Tunes have only one hope: Michael Jordan. And what you get is 88 minutes of good ol' hilarity, with slapstick humor that's almost equal to the original animated Looney shorts.
This is a very entertaining movie. It has Bugs, Sylvester, and Daffy playing basketball with M.J., which is a pretty memorable concept. The reason why I've given this film four stars instead of five is because of Lola Bunny. She was a very unnecessary addition to the Looney Tunes. She's not funny, she's irritating, and she tries too hard to look attractive. Another reason is Michael Jordan's acting. It's very wooden at times, but he's not as bad as Shaq (I think you know which movie I'm talking about). But everything else is just fine. Wayne Knight and Bill Murray are pretty funny in their supporting roles. But the real stars here are, of course, the Looney Tunes. I'm pretty sure that fans of Bugs, Yosemite Sam, Tweety, and Marvin the Martian will get a kick out of this movie. It's fun for both families and Looney Tunes fans.』

(Space Jam) 『This was a movie we really enjoyed. I bought it for my two year old twin grand boys who love basketball like their Dad. It was a great way for my son and them to spend some time together. The boys loved the animation and they sat and watched the entire movie. Of course it had to be watched again the next day. The quality of the movie was excellent. The delivery was outstanding. I was told I would receive in 5-10 days and I had it in 3 days. I enjoyed this the first time it was on the movie screen and I relived my enjoyment watching with my grand sons. Thanks for helping to make a wonderful memory.』 『Although at first glance it looks like a movie dreamed up by a marketing committee (and in some respects it probably was),Space Jamactually defies the odds against it to become a dazzling display of family entertainment. There's a kind of demented genius to the idea of casting NBA superstar Michael Jordan in a live-action and animated movie costarring the beloved characters from Warner Bros.' Looney Tunes cartoons. They play off each other like seasoned veterans of vaudeville, and Jordan never falls into the kind of awkward, amateurish showmanship that you might expect from a sports idol. He's comfortable in the cartoon land of his costars, who include Bugs Bunny and sexy newcomer Lola Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Sylvester&Tweety, Speedy Gonzalez, the Tazmanian Devil, Foghorn Leghorn, and Yosemite Sam. They've all been hijacked to an outer-space amusement park run by the Nerdlucks, who strike a Faustian bargain with the Looney heroes: if Bugs and Co. can defeat the Nerdluck "Monstars" in a basketball game, they'll win back their freedom; if they lose, they'll be doomed to stay there forever as enslaved entertainers. So they kidnap Jordan as their coach and "secret weapon" while the nefarious Nerdlucks suck out the basketball skills from such stellar victims as Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing. It all leads to reckless abandon on the basketball court, and Bill Murray pops in for some hilarious support. Combining traditional animation and computer-generated Nerdlucks with its live-action cast,Space Jamwas made in the anarchic spirit of the Looney Tunes cartoons, where anything goes as long as it's funny and off-the-wall (or the ceiling, or the door, or the floor...). Well go back and re-visit this classic piece of 80's horror because if you are like me, you've forgotten just how fun this film can be!
You have Keifer Sutherland chewing up scenery (and minor characters)as the leader of a motorcycle ridin' vampire clan decked out in a wardrobe straight out of MTV's The Headbangers Ball! You have the two Coreys at the top of their career, you have Jason Patric when it looked like he was going to have a career (hello "Speed 2: Cruise Control"!!???) and Jami Gertz looks smokin' hot....and oh yea, the guy that's not Keanu Reeves from "Bill&Ted's Excellent Adventure" is here too!
What's the basic story? Family moves to sunny California coastal town, with a kick ass amusement park on a pier, plenty of wierdos and a town which also happens to be known as the "murder capital of the world"! Unfortunately the oldest boy draws the attention of the local vampire clan, and before long he's not casting a solid reflection any more. It's up to his geeky little brother and two teenage Van Helsings named "The Frog Brothers" to stop the vampires before they destroy the family. Corny? You betcha! Awesome? Damn straight!
And if things couldn't get better, just wait until you hear the soundtrack!! Okay, the oily body-builder guy playing the sax might be a tad too much, but it's the 80's what do you expect? The music is fantastic, and if you don't own the soundtrack on CD, please follow the links below, and pick that puppy up right away.
So what more is there to say, if you were a child of the 80's..you must OWN this film. If you think Sexy vampires were invented when "Twilight" came out...think again. This is a great, fun film that has stood the test of time. 』
(A kitschy classic!) 『This movie doesn't take the vampire-film theme too seriously...and that's what makes it so great! There is plenty of humor thrown in to balance out the "horror" aspects. The cast is superb: the 2 Coreys do a perfect job in this film of bouncing one-liners off of one another. Kiefer Sutherland is a convincing bad guy, and Jason Patric is great as the protagonist caught between human and vampire. One of the vampires in the bad guys' clan - Billy Wirth, the one with the long dark hair - was a semi-finalist on Season 1 of American Gladiator, for those of you who like useless trivia :) You also get Alex Winter before Bill&Ted fame (albeit with a horribly fake weave in this one). The only low point is the female lead, who plays the character of Starr...I forget her name, she is so unremarkable, she "acts" as though she is reading right off of a Teleprompter, and has some serious overacting on display. But overall, this movie has everything. I've watched this movie so many times over the years, and it never loses its charm for me. This isn't what I'd call a hardcore horror film - there are too many comedy aspects - but it's definitely enjoyable and a lot of fun!』
(My favorite vampire move ever.) 『The Lost Boys is a classic. Long before Kiefer Sutherland was torturing terrorists he was fanging teens on the Santa Cruz Boardwalk. The soundtrack is haunting and unforgettable and the script is good enough that it doesn't have to throw in too much blood and gore to keep the viewer on the edge of the seat.
FYI: The 'R' rating assigned to Lost Boys is a bit harsh. A PG-13 would be more accurate. I showed it to my pre-teen daughters with no regrets.』
(Classic 80's Movie) 『What can be said, if you saw it when you were a kid, then it still rocks.』
(Lost... and Found) 『A true cult classic. Although the second go round fell a bit flat, the original is both captivating, sensual&frighteningly evil. As for the cast: PERFECTION.』 『Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 09/04/2007』

This is a paperback without a dust jacket and there are 296 pages. The paper is slightly thinner than SFT but doesn't affect the art book in anyway. The colour reproduction is still brilliant.
With so many artists contributing, the variety of style is amazing, of course. Some of the styles included are manga, caricature, 3D, chibi, game art, vector and many others. There's even a very sexy sculpted model of Morrigan.
Not just style, some of the ideas and concepts are really fun. There are illustrations of Darkstalkers when they are old but still fighting, Baby Bonnie Hood with mecha enhancements, Transformers-style and other wacky stuff. Looks like everyone spent a lot of time on their work.

Written in that wonderfully poetic and intelectual style of the old masters of liturature it is a tale of Ambition, forbidden practices, horror, madness, anguish, and retribution. If you are the kind of person who expects a classic horror film type story full of gore and violence then you will be in for a disapointment. The real focus of the story is within the mind of good Doctor Frankenstien himself (who was actually quite young) and the monster he created. Also, if you only like happy endings, this book is not for you. If not, this is a great book only dampened by the fact that it is not longer. Fans of Dracula will love this story and thank God for the 'Little Ice Age' that brought this book into being.』
(Once Underestimated, Now Overestimated?) 『It is a classic and, therefore, deserves a close reading. Norton editions are great. The text size is good, the print tends to be first-rate, and the critical essays usually include classic essays and major critics. This doesn't strike me as being worthy of the "A" list of literature, but that is a prejudice. I can't really accept any genre lit on the list, including detective, gothic, or science fiction. It is an interesting sample of this period, but I didn't get a lot out the the book itself. For one thing, the atmosphere of doom and gloom doesn't work for me. Everyone is sick and morbidly depressed and sad. This is not explained and I don't think one can easily guess. The writing works, sure, but I don't find the prose style uplifting or thrilling, as writing. The story is very familiar. As a child of the 60s, I remember well watching reruns of the classic film on TV. It is hard to divorce the brilliant film from the wordy novel. The film has some brilliant set-pieces. The novel has a lot in it and it certainly can and should be read at multiple levels, but in the end it is Victorian intellectual thought of the low order. There are other, better thinkers and novelists of far greater talent.』
(The hobo Philosopher) 『This is a classic and that is the reason that I read it. I liked the movie but the book is a whole other experience. I liked the format; I like the style; I liked the prose; I liked the intellectuality. I really didn't analyze it. I just read it for the fun of it. It was good. It was fun.

(One of two best editions -- the 1818 text) 『Frankenstein is a great work, though one that has consistently been underrated and misrepresented. Frankenstein is, in the words of Donald H. Reiman, "the most seminal literary work of the Romantic period". It is a work of profound and radical ideas, written in poetically powerful prose. Frankenstein is not really a gothic novel, although its author sometimes employs gothic conventions and language, and even spoofs them. Rather, Frankenstein is an enduring myth, a novel of ideas, and above all, a moral allegory about the evil effects of intolerance and prejudice, ostracism and alienation, both to the victims of intolerance and to society at large. Since there are some good reviews here, I'll concentrate on this particular edition -- the Norton Critical Edition, edited by J. Paul Hunter. This is one of the two best editions of Frankenstein available (the other being the Chicago edition edited by James Rieger). Most importantly, this is the original 1818 edition, rather than the inferior, bowdlerized 1831 edition -- which is the most common, and the only one that was available for well over a century. Hunter's introduction is not bad. Some of the reviews and essays in the back are good, and some are not, but this is par for the course. The main text is intelligently annotated. Please check out my own book, The Man Who Wrote Frankenstein, which makes the case that Frankenstein was really written by Percy Bysshe Shelley, one of the greatest poets in the English language. I also argue that male love, both idealized and demonized, is a central theme of Frankenstein.』
(Gothic at its best) 『Mary Shelley was the daughter of the famous feminist and author, Mary Wollstonecraft, who is best known for her work The Vindication of the Rights of Women. In Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, a young university student, Victor Frankenstein, obsesses with wanting to know the secret to life. He studies chemistry and natural philosophy with the goal of being able to create a human out of spare body parts. After months of constant work in his laboratory, Frankenstein attains his goal and brings his creation to life. Frankenstein is immediately overwrought by fear and remorse at the sight of his creation, a "monster." The next morning, he decides to destroy his creation but finds that the monster has escaped. The monster, unlike other humans, has no social preparation or education; thus, it is unequipped to take care of itself either physically or emotionally. The monster lives in the forest like an animal without knowledge of "self" or understanding of its surroundings. The monster happens upon a hut inhabited by a poor family and is able to find shelter in a shed adjacent to the hut. For several months, the monster starts to gain knowledge of human life by observing the daily life of the hut's inhabitants through a crack in the wall. The monster's education of language and letters begins when he listens to one of them learning the French language. During this period, the monster also learns of human society and comes to the realization that he is grotesque and alone in the world. Armed with his newfound ability to read, he reads three books that he found in a leather satchel in the woods. Goethe's Sorrows of Young Werther, Milton's Paradise Lost, and a volume of Plutarch's Lives. The monster, not knowing any better, read these books thinking them to be facts about human history. From Plutarch's works, he learns of humankind's virtues. However, it is Paradise Lost that has a most interesting effect on the monster's understanding of self. The monster at first identifies with Adam, "I was apparently united by no link to any other being in existence." The monster, armed only with his limited education, thought that he would introduce himself to the cottagers and depend on their virtue and benevolence; traits he believed from his readings that all humans possessed. However, soon after his first encounter with the cottagers, he is beaten and chased off because his ugliness frightens people. The monster is overwrought by a feeling of perplexity by this reaction, since he thought he would gain their trust and love, which he observed them generously give to each other on so many occasions. He receives further confirmation of how his ugliness repels people when, sometime later, he saves a young girl from drowning and the girl's father shoots at him because he is frightful to look at. The monster quickly realizes that the books really lied to him. He found no benevolence or virtue among humans, even from his creator. At every turn in his life, humans are judging him solely based on his looks. The monster soon realizes that it is not Adam, the perfect being enjoying the world, which he is most alike. Instead, he comes to realize that he most represents Satan. The monster is jealous of the happiness he sees humans enjoy that he has never attained for himself. The monster tells Frankenstein that he found his lab journal in his coat pocket and read it with increasing hate and despair as he came to understand what Frankenstein's intent was in creating him. The monster curses Frankenstein for making a creature so hideous that even his creator turned from him in disgust.
Shelley's intent here is plain to see. "The fate of the monster suggests that proficiency in `the art of language' as he calls it, may not ensure one's position as a member of the `human kingdom." In a sense, she is showing that both her parents were mistaken when they advocated greater education reform for people. They thought education would make people better, which in turn would improve society for all. Mary Shelley's Frankenstein contradicts this belief.
Starting with the full title of Mary Shelley's book, Frankenstein: or The Modern Prometheus one can instantly see that mythology was integral to her book. Lord Byron, poet and friend of the Shelley's was writing a poem entitled Prometheus, and Mary was reading the Prometheus legend in Aeschylus' works when she had a dream, which was the impetus for her book. The Greek god Prometheus, is known for two important tasks that he performed, he created man from clay, and he stole fire from the gods and gave it to man. The stealing of fire really angered Zeus because the giving of fire began an era of enlightenment for humankind. Zeus punished Prometheus by having him carried to a mountain, where an eagle would pick at his liver; it would grow back each day and the eagle would eat it again.
The presence of fire and light in this gothic story helps to point to the similarities to Prometheus and Victor Frankenstein, the creator of the monster, in Shelley's book. The book uses light as a symbol of discovery, knowledge, and enlightenment. The natural world is full of hidden passages, and dark unknown scientific secrets; Victor's goal as a scientist is to grasp towards the light. Light is a by-product of fire that the monster learned quickly when he is living on his own. The monster experienced fires' duality when he first encountered it in an unattended fire in the woods. He is mesmerized by the fact that fire produces light in the darkness in the woods, but is shocked at the sensation of pain it gives him when he touches it. Victor is defiant of god in the same way that Prometheus was defiant of Zeus. Victor steals the secret of life from god and creates a human out of spare body parts. He does this out of an altruistic wish to spare humankind from the pain and suffering of death. Thus, Victor Frankenstein embodies both aspects of the Promethean myth creation and fire. Victor in a sense has the same experience with the fire of enlightenment similar to his monster; he is "burned" by the fire of enlightenment. Victor also suffers from the classic Greek tragic condition of hubris for his transgression against god and nature.
The book also adopts two other great mythic legends. One is Adam from the Bible. Victor Frankenstein bears striking resemblance to Adam and his fall from grace for eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge. The other is Satan, a mythic figure that Shelley admired from her readings in Milton's book Paradise Lost. In an interesting juxtaposition of booth myths, she expands on the motif of the fall from grace in her book when she portrays the monster comparing himself to Adam; after he read, Milton's book Paradise Lost. The monster tells Victor, that he at first identifies with Adam God's first creation. "I was apparently united by no link to any other being in existence." However, after several incidents of mistreatment that he suffered from the humans he encountered in his travels; the monster soon realized that it is not Adam, the perfect being enjoying the world, which he was most alike. Instead, he came to realize that he most represented Satan. The monster's feelings of hatred and despair stem from the fact that humans found him grotesque to look at and would not accept him as a member of human society. The monster cursed Victor for making a creature so hideous that even his creator turned from him in disgust. Thus, it is obvious for all to see that Shelley's Frankenstein is replete with mythological references and they are central to the plot.

Featuring new or recent fiction by a dozen authors and anchored by reprints from horror literary giants Ramsey Campbell and Graham Masterton, the 2009 Comet Press anthology Vile Things answers such questions as:
How can a mad scientist, who is also a family man, keep his household electronics running once he decides to go green?
Why should you never cross the threshold of an apartment that bears an obscene portrait of a rooster?
How do you get even with a roommate whose only crime is being irresistible?
Rarely does one volume of work by such a wide range of experienced and emerging writers offer the abundance of creepiness found in Vile Things: Extreme Deviations of Horror. Maggots, animals and people slither this way and that, sometimes erotically, sometimes horrifically and occasionally both--as in Angel Leigh McCoy's devilishly sensual "Coquettrice." In addition to McCoy's story, I especially liked the ruthless wit of Stefan Pearson's "Going Green." But there are many delights to be found here.
In Sean Logan's geek revenge story "Tenant's Rights" a slovenly upstairs renter turns peeping tom, drilling holes in the floor to spy on the handsome roommate whose sexual charisma--and magnificent hair--have driven him to distraction. The anti-hero of "The Caterpillar" by C. Dennis Moore stumbles toward a state of grace and awe, thanks to an unexpected connection to his disfigured young cousin.
These are not typical or predictable tales of horror. While a couple of the pieces lack polish, there is no shortage of originality. If you think, as I do, that the most exotic images and disturbing acts lurk in the basement next door or the apartment across the hall, here is the material for your next nightmare.』
(Vile Things is extremely vile) 『Vile Things: Extreme Deviations of Horror is one of the best horror anthologies I've read in a long time. I love extreme horror, and this book fits the bill. The icing on the cake is not only are the stories nasty, gory, and disturbing, but they're great stories, so any fan of horror will be satisfied as well.
Initially I was intrigued because Ramsey Campbell and Graham Masterton both have stories in this collection, and I'm a huge fan of both, they are, well, the masters. And their stories prove that. But, as i delved deeper, I found some truly outstanding gems from some lesser known authors, and authors I 'd heard of but hadnt had a chance to read. I definitely will check out more of their work if this is a representative of their writing. Some standouts were "Fungoid" by Randy Chandler, a nasty, stomach turning story about a flesh eating fungus; "The Fisherman" by Brian Rosenberger, a hilarious yet sick and twisted story about perverted fisherman, "The Devil Live in Jersey" by Z.F. Kilgore, a cool detective story and a nice twist on the Jersey Devil legend, complete with baby corpse eating and witch burnings. "Rat KIng" by Jeffrey Thomas about a nazi concentration camp guard who befriends a british soldier. "Maggots" by Tim Curran, a soldier-turned-ghoul in some past war.
