(Not in Letterbox!)
(One of the best action films of the century!!) I figure you don't need me to review the movies themselves. You've already seen them anyway, right? You want to see them again because they're so good, right? Yes. So, just a quick point: this twofer is the cheapest way to do it because you only take one hit on the shipping cost, and of course VHS editions are essentially free now. Despite what the description says, the two videos in this set are NOT in widescreen. Keep this in mind when buying. Of course.nobody will forget the last scene of T2:asta la vista baby...These two films were very shocking to me.Because it sux?OF COURSE NOT!These were one of my best action movies, and it'll be one of the best flick in the century.I liked T2 better because T1 was just plain entertainment, just a no-brainer.But T2 was a movie that we can all think about something. This something,is up to you..... customer 's review (I won an essay contest!)
(Joel and the 'Bots are on their game . . .)
(a classic from the MST3K vault)
(MST3K At It's Best!)
(Hye, I won the essay contest!) Great DVD if you're wanting to get on the MST3K bandwagon but just not sure when/how to jump on. For all that is holy, don't start with "Manos" Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Manos: Hands of Fate you need to work up to that, my friend. I would also recommend you check out "Mitchell" Mystery Science Theater 3000 - Mitchell... Others have described the movies in detail so I won't bother. Again, great starter into fandom!
This is some of their best work. The zingers are well delivered right on time and funny. The total package is helped along by what is somewhat of a good movie in a 40s/50s sort of way. It's a preachy story about a geeky "good kid" who goes astray due to neglectful alcoholic (but well-dressed) parents. The "kid" seems to be in his mid-30's and has to range everywhere from a brown-nosing high school dork -- to a fawning lovestruck boy -- to an armed robber. Strange but entertaining. The hottie he's stuck on does a little music number that sticks in your head. With the assistance of MST3K, this one was fun and I will revisit it. I've watched this episode over and over since it came out on DVD and for some reason the wise crackings never seem to get old. Just one of many classics for all of us MST3K fans. In my humble opinion this is the best episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 in that show's long history. The original cast and writers are at the peak of their powers with this one, taking an otherwise gray documentary on "Truck Farming" and an equally gray, otherwise forgettable 1940s feature (I Accuse My Parents) and turning it into comedy gold. If fans (MSTies)want to introduce news fans to this hilarious show, this is the episode to show them. From the mad scientists "Cake and Shake" invention ("A real exotic dancer inside!") to the snappy riffs of the short ("In Texas there's a further problem..." "Texans!")to the hilarious host segments (particularly the biting analysis of the mind of the film's protagonist. "You know, Joel, it could be that Jimmy's just really stupid") to the rapid-fire riffing of the main film ("I won the "Get the crap kicked out of you" contest!"), this episode is non-stop laughs that even non-fans of the show should enjoy. MST3K was one of the funniest shows in televison history, and this was its epitome. I like to think of I Accuse My Parents as the perfect gateway MST3K episode. Not only is the movie laughably moronic in several different ways--without being as mind numbingly boring as Manos, the Hands of Fate--it's proceeded by an awesome short about truck farming and the host segments are all pretty funny as well. My sister and I got my mother to drink the cool-aid with this one, and it was made better because she was pretty sure she'd actually seen the truck farming short in school. I also indoctrinated my girlfriend with it and now it's become one of her favorites.
Yes, this is a Joel episode, but it's Joel at his best. If you don't come out of watching this with at least three or four new catch phrases added to your vocabulary, there is no hope for you at all. You should probably blame your parents for that. A strong contender for inclusion in a compilation ofMST3K's greatest hits, this roasting of a 1945 morality tale demonstrates how funnyMST3Kcan be when Joel, Tom Servo, and Crow are matched against a blandly well-meaning melodrama. The target for derision isI Accuse My Parents, a typically tacky dose of cautionary "authority" from the poverty-row auteurs at Producers Releasing Corp. (PRC), in which the errant son of alcoholic parents falls for the torch-singer flame of a cut-rate mobster. Since the dialogue is so perfectly atrocious, Joel&Co. provide a steady feast of ad-libs, line extensions, and couch-potato counterpoint, and this time their material is frequently laugh-out-loud hilarious. Pointless out of context but impressively hip against the film's riotous moralizing, theMST3Kripostes (which are also aimed at a vintage grade-school short, "The Truck Farmer") are especially refined for movie buffs, who will benefit most from the rambling retorts of comedy's savviest cinephiles.--Jeff Shannon Rerations < Mystery Science Theater 3000 - I Accuse My Parents [VHS] >

customer 's review ("You have to come back with me...Back to the Future!")
(First one was the best)
(great trilogy!)
(Rating Back to the Future)
(A trilogy everyone should own.) How can anyone who likes these movies not like this set. If you are like me and where waiting for these movies to come out on DVD, you would have been pleased to see them come out like this instead of having to buy them all separate. I liked these movies when they came out, and I was so excited to see them finally come out on DVD. I loved how they all connected to each other like a continuing story. They made you want to see the next one as soon as it came out. I had to know what was going to happen to Marty and Doc Brown. Sure, some of the parts were kind of corny, but that added comedy to the movies. SO, if you like these movies, and you are tired of your worn out VHS, buy this product. Always felt the time difference between the first and second episodes were way too long, but I'm glad they came out. Thought number 2 was decent, but didn't like the wild west concept of number 3 at first, but it grew on me. Doc Brown is a great character and it's hard not to like Michael J Fox as Marty. Excellent supporting cast, great music and effects and the nostalgia of the 80's just made the movie work.
I love these movies. They are most def. in my ranking for my favorite movies of all time. They have great acting, and great stories. Each and every one of them I could watch again and again. Overall, terrfic movies. First time to buy a "not new" video. Selection exactly as described "Pristine condition". Arrived sooner than quoted. Very pleased. Before I get to the reviews of each movie, I just want to say I think everyone should watch the special features on these discs. I dont usually watch them cause I dont have all the time in the world to do that, but there were a lot of fun to watch. And the outtakes were really funny. Glad they had those to put on these discs.
Back to the Future: Part 1
-Great Scott!
In 1985, Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) asks Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a high school teenager, to meet him at the local mall for a late night science experiment. When Marty shows up, he sees Doc backing a Delorean out from a van. But this just isn't any Delorean. This Delorean has been modified into a time machine. As Doc begins to explain how it all works, a group of terrorists that Doc stole some uranium from, show up and begin to wreak havoc. Marty jumps in the car and floors it after witnessing Doc getting shot. But as soon as Marty hits the magic number of 88mph, he is shot back in time to 1955. While trying to figure out how to get back to 1985, he screws up the first time his parents meet, which begins the slow cycle of his brother, his sister, and even himself to slowly fade away from existence. Marty must figure out a way to get the time machine to work again and also somehow get his popular mom to fall in love with is geeky father so he can get back to the future.
Talk about a movie that just never gets old. Almost all the laughs are still funny. From the barn scene, to the first time Marty meets his mom as a teenager, to the skateboarding/poop scene. Back to the Future really is just a very fun movie. I think I was smiling almost through the whole thing and I've had to have seen this movie over 20 times by now. I think almost everyone has wished they could go back in time, but who really thinks about going back to hang with their parents. After seeing this movie, it might really be fun to do just that. We know Marty's mom preaches about how girls shouldn't chase guys and things, but when we see her at a younger age, she is doing exactly what she forbids her own children from doing. And when he comes across his dad, he finds out things that he never knew his dad was interested in. And then of course we have Doc Brown, who Christopher Lloyd played perfectly. His antics, and screams, facial expressions, and over the topness were done just right. What a great character. And Michael J. Fox also plays Marty McFly just right to. To think that Eric Stoltz almost played Marty McFly. Thankfully the director thought he just didn't fit the part and refilmed it with Fox.
Honestly, I could go on and on and on about this movie and just tell the whole story. But what fun would that be. Just own this movie.
P.S. - I love watching old 80's flicks and seeing all the stuff that was cool back then. Also I really like seeing old advertisements or signs. Like the Pepsi symbol back then. Classic stuff.
-----------------------
Back to the Future: Part 2
-We gotta go back in time to save the future that we messed up when someone went back to the past and screwed it up. Yep.
The day after Marty gets back from 1955, Doc leaves in the time machine to go the future to the year 2015, only to return seconds later (though much more time has passed for Doc). Something terrible happens in the future to Marty's son. Thankfully Marty and his son are the spitting image of each other so Doc has come up with a plan to have Marty take the place of his son for a few minutes to make a correct decision to prevent the bad incident from happening. But while they are in the future, the Biff we know from 1955 and 1985 overhears Marty and Doc talking about their time machine. So Biff decides to change his crappy life by stealing the time machine and going back to 1955 with a sports almanac with all the winners of every sport up to the year 2000. So when Marty and Doc make it back to 1985, it's a very different 1985 than the one that they left. After figuring out what happened, they must once again go back to 1955 to prevent the almanac from being used by Biff so they can save the future that they know. Whew.
I'm a huge fan of the second movie of the trilogy. It used to be my favorite of the trilogy. Probably because of the flying cars and the hover board. Also the more in depth time traveling was definitely nice to have, even though you had to suspend a little bit of belief of how time travel works. Because honestly if Biff goes back in time and changes time, then time should've altered while Marty and Doc were in 2015. To me, the 2015 scenes were cool, but the movie becomes a lot better when they go back to 1955 again. It was a lot of fun to see Marty watching himself do the things he was doing in the first movie. Like when you see him low crawling under a window of the car that part 1 Marty is sitting in with his teenage version of his mother from 1955. Also it was funny to see Fox play multiple characters in this movie such as his son, his older self and even his daughter from 2015. Also it was amusing to see the 2015 Biff ragging on his former 1955 self for being dumb and sounding like an idiot. And also seeing the son of Biff, Griff, was a trip too. Because he's basically the same type of bully his father was in 1955, but more juiced up because of robotic implants. It was even nice to see Zemeckis do an homage to part 1 by having almost the same skateboard scene from part 1 in this movie also, but a more futuristic version of it.
Though it used to be my favorite of the trilogy, I'm starting to lean more to part 1 being my favorite, but part 2 is definitely a close second. Once again, this movie is a classic also and I highly recommend it if you loved part 1.
P.S. - From the first time I saw this move to right now as I type this... I want a friggin hover board!
-----------------------
Back to the Future: Part 3
-Saddle up Cowboy... it's a Wild West adventure for Doc and McFly.
As soon as Marty and Doc get ready to go back to 1985 from 1955, the Delorean is hit with a lightning bolt and sends Doc somewhere in time. As Marty is standing there in 1955, confused on what to do, a mailman comes up to him, handing him a letter addressed to him, from 1885, from Doc. The letter says that he hid the Delorean in a cave, and to use it to get back to 1985 and to not come to 1885 to rescue him. But when Marty finds out that Doc dies from a gunshot to the back, he decides to not listen to Doc and head back to 1885 to save Doc from dying. But when he arrives in 1885, he busts his fuel line, leaking out all the fuel. And in 1885, there is no gasoline. So while Doc and Marty try to figure out how to get back to 1985, they must also try and not die by the gun of Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen, the relative of Biff.
While part 3 feels like part 1 and 2, it almost feels totally different. It being more of a western has a big hand in that also. And I love westerns, so I love part 3. Honestly in my review of part 2, I said part 1 is probably my favorite, but I really don't know. I love all 3 parts equally because even though they all have the same premise, they are all so different at the same time. In part 3, I absolutely loved the character of Buford Tannen. He was absolutely hilarious. And he really felt like he was a bad guy from back in the west. The way he talked and the way he looked. I also liked how a lot of part 2 hinted at parts of part 3 (since they were both made back to back). For instance, Marty sees a picture of his great grandfather in part 2 and he says something like "Good looking guy", but in part 3 we find out it was really Marty himself. And definitely one of my favorite parts of all 3 movies is here in this movie. The final scene with the train trying to get the Delorean to the future was done really well.
For the final part of the trilogy, I really couldn't have asked for more. Definitely a great ending to a great trilogy that will be loved for a long time by children and adults. OWN THIS!
P.S. - So why didn't Marty and Doc just go to the cave that Doc put the Delorean in to siphon gas from it to put it into the Delorean that needed gas instead of trying to use a train to get it to the future. DOH! =) Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis topped his breakaway hitRomancing the StonewithBack to the Future, a joyous comedy with a dazzling hook: what would it be like to meet your parents in their youth? Billed as a special-effects comedy, the imaginative film (the top box-office smash of 1985) has staying power because of the heart behind Zemeckis and Bob Gale's script. High schooler Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox, during the height of his TV success) is catapulted back to the '50s where he sees his parents in their teens, and accidentally changes the history of how Mom and Dad met. Filled with the humorous ideology of the '50s, filtered through the knowledge of the '80s (actor Ronald Reagan is president, ha!), the film comes off as aTwilight Zoneepisode written by Preston Sturges. Filled with memorable effects and two wonderfully off-key, perfectly cast performances: Christopher Lloyd as the crazy scientist who builds the time machine (a DeLorean luxury car) and Crispin Glover as Marty's geeky dad.--Doug ThomasCritics and audiences didn't seem too happy withBack to the Future, Part II, the inventive, perhaps too clever sequel. Director Zemeckis and cast bent over backwards to add layers of time-travel complication, and while it surely exercises the brain it isn't necessarily funny in the same way that its predecessor was. It's well worth a visit, though, just to appreciate the imagination that went into it, particularly in a finale that has Marty watching his own actions from the first film.--Tom Keogh Shot back-to-back with the second chapter in the trilogy,Back to the Future, Part IIIis less hectic than that film and has the same sweet spirit of the first, albeit in a whole new setting. This time, Marty ends up in the Old West of 1885, trying to prevent the death of mad scientist Christopher Lloyd at the hands of gunman Buford "Mad Dog" Tannen (Thomas F. Wilson, who had a recurring role as the bully Biff). Director Zemeckis successfully blends exciting special effects with the traditions of a Western and comes up with something original and fun.--Tom Keogh Rerations < Back to the Future - The Complete Trilogy [VHS] >

(Politics ruined this book)
(Duma Key)
(NOT THE KING OF HORROR ANYMORE)
(Doesn't Hold Up to his Early Work.) book is very very long..should be several hundred pages shorter.. this story is not up to previous king standards...its a good 1st read but not a keeper and and not a re-read....EDGAR is a mutilated human slowly going crazy,he looses a daughter and his paintings are telling the future. WIREMAN is a friend and ELIZABETH is a sweet haunted old lady. PERSE is a demon bent on destroying ur soul and killing... the island is beautiful and house is funky. its a book that i tried to read but found my self putting it down and coming back later. (much later) i did finally finish it..then i gave it away................. sorry steven King places nasty little bits of political commentary throughout this book. For me it runied it. I'd give it 0 stars if I could. This is one of the best Stephen King book I've ever read. It just stays with you. Is King even writing his own books anymore? Sure doesn't seem like it!! Nothing he's written since the last book of The Dark Tower has been of any quality as his past always was.
And as usual, some people just call ANYTHING he writes "amazing", "his best"... which is a load of carp. If they ever read his old works they'd NEVER say that. Fanatics have no place in reviewing books since they can't be relied upon to write anything but unbelievable, unwarranted praise for his books.
I sure hope Under the Dome is better. At over 1000 pages I will never read anything of his again if it's not up to his old style and quality. I read so many statements that this was a return to King's early writing style and I hoped it was. I discovered King right at the beginning of his career, when he first wrote Carrie and for years, everything he wrote was golden. But then (maybe after his accident), he seemed to change his writing style and I still read his books, but always ended up disappointed. Read all the glowing reviews for Duma Key, I couldn't wait to get a copy and by the time I was halfway through - I began putting the book down and forcing myself to continue. That sinking feeling had returned. Repetitive dialogue and a dragged out plot just killed the book for me - and it's a shame because I think a good editing (with 200-300 pages removed) could have possibly saved the book. This was a huge disappointment.
Amazon Significant Seven, January 2008: It would be impossible to convey the wonder and the horror of Stephen King's latest novel in just a few words. Suffice it to say thatDuma Key, the story of Edgar Freemantle and his recovery from the terrible nightmare-inducing accident that stole his arm and ended his marriage, is Stephen King's most brilliant novel to date (outside of theDark Towernovels, in which caseeachis arguably his best work).Duma Keyis as rich and rewarding asRita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption(yes, thatShawshank Redemption), and as truly scary as anything King has written (and that's saying a lot). Readers who have "always wanted to try Stephen King" but never known where to start should try a few pages ofDuma Key--the frankness with which Edgar reveals his desperate, sputtering rages and thoughts of suicide is King at the top of his game. And that's just the first thirty pages...--Daphne Durham
Duma Key: Where It All Began A Note from Chuck Verrill, the Longtime Editor of Stephen King In the spring of 2006 Stephen King told me he was working on a Florida story that was beginning to grow on him. "I'm thinking of calling itDuma Key," he offered. I liked the sound of that--the title was like a drumbeat of dread. "You know howLisey's Storyis a story about marriage?" he said. "Sure," I answered. The novel hadn't yet been published, but I knew its story well: Lisey and Scott Landon--what a marriage that was. Then he dropped the other shoe: "I thinkDuma Keymight be my story of divorce." Pretty soon I received a slim package from a familiar address in Maine. Inside was a short story titled "Memory"--a story of divorce, all right, but set in Minnesota. By the end of the summer, whenTin Housepublished "Memory," Stephen had completed a draft ofDuma Key, and it became clear to me how "Memory" and its narrator, Edgar Freemantle, had moved from Minnesota to Florida, and how a story of divorce had turned into something more complex, more strange, and much more terrifying. If you read the following two texts side by side--"Memory" as it was published byTin Houseand the opening chapter ofDuma Keyin final form--you'll see a writer at work, and how stories can both contract and expand. WhetherDuma Keyis an expansion of "Memory" or "Memory" a contraction ofDuma Key, I can't really say. Can you? --Chuck Verrill "Memory"
Memories are contrary things; if you quit chasing them and turn your back, they often return on their own. That's what Kamen says. I tell him I never chased the memory of my accident. Some things, I say, are better forgotten.Maybe, but that doesnt matter, either. That's what Kamen says. My name is Edgar Freemantle. I used to be a big deal in building and construction. This was in Minnesota, in my other life. I was a genuine American-boy success in that life, worked my way up like a motherf---er, and for me, everything worked out. When MinneapolisSt. Paul boomed, The Freemantle Company boomed. When things tightened up, I never tried to force things. But I played my hunches, and most of them played out well. By the time I was fifty, Pam and I were worth about forty million dollars. And what we had together still worked. I lookedat other women from time to time but never strayed. At the end of our particular Golden Age, one of our girls was at Brown and the other was teaching in a foreign exchange program. Just before things went wrong, my wife and I were planning to go and visit her. I had an accident at a job site. That's what happened. I was in my pickup truck. The right side of my skull was crushed. My ribs were broken. My right hip was shattered. And although I retained sixty percent of the sight in my right eye (more, on a good day), I lost almost all of my right arm. I was supposed to lose my life, but I didnt. Then I was supposed to become one of the Vegetable Simpsons, a Coma Homer, but that didn't happen, either. I was one confused American when I came around, but the worst of that passed. By the time it did, my wife had passed, too. She's remarried to a fellow who owns bowling alleys. My older daughter likes him. My younger daughter thinks hes a yank-off. My wife says shell come around. Maybesí, maybeno. That's what Kamen says. When I say I was confused, I mean that at first I didnt know who people were, or what had happened, or why I was in such awful pain. I can't remember the quality and pitch of that pain now. I know it was excruciating, but it's all pretty academic. Like a picture of a mountain inNational Geographicmagazine. It wasnt academic at the time. At the time it was more like climbing a mountain. How to Draw a Picture Start with a blank surface. It doesn't have to be paper or canvas, but I feel it should be white. We call it white because we need a word, but its true name is nothing. Black is the absence of light, but white is the absence of memory, the color of can't remember. How do we remember to remember? That's a question I've asked myself often since my time on Duma Key, often in the small hours of the morning, looking up into the absence of light, remembering absent friends. Sometimes in those little hours I think about the horizon. You have to establish the horizon. You have to mark the white. A simple enough act, you might say, but any act that re-makes the world is heroic. Or so Ive come to believe. Imagine a little girl, hardly more than a baby. She fell from a carriage almost ninety years ago, struck her head on a stone, and forgot everything. Not just her name; everything! And then one day she recalled just enough to pick up a pencil and make that first hesitant mark across the white. A horizon-line, sure. But also a slot for blackness to pour through. Still, imagine that small hand lifting the pencil... hesitating... and then marking the white. Imagine the courage of that first effort to re-establish the world by picturing it. I will always love that little girl, in spite of all she has cost me. I must. I have no choice. Pictures are magic, as you know. My Other Life My name is Edgar Freemantle. I used to be a big deal in the building and contracting business. This was in Minnesota, in my other life. I learned that my-other-life thing from Wireman. I want to tell you about Wireman, but first let's get through the Minnesota part. Gotta say it: I was a genuine American-boy success there. Worked my way up in the company where I started, and when I couldnt work my way any higher there, I went out and started my own. The boss of the company I left laughed at me, said I'd be broke in a year. I think that's what most bosses say when some hot young pocket-rocket goes off on his own. For me, everything worked out. When MinneapolisSt. Paul boomed, The Freemantle Company boomed. When things tightened up, I never tried to play big. But I did play my hunches, and most played out well. By the time I was fifty, Pam and I were worth forty million dollars. And we were still tight. We had two girls, and at the end of our particular Golden Age, Ilse was at Brown and Melinda was teaching in France, as part of a foreign exchange program. At the time things went wrong, my wife and I were planning to go and visit her. Continue ReadingDuma Key | |

More from Stephen King
NO MORE THAN A DARK PENCIL LINE ON A BLANK PAGE. A HORIZON LINE, MAYBE. BUT ALSO A SLOT FOR BLACKNESS TO POUR THROUGH... A terrible accident takes Edgar Freemantle's right arm and scrambles his memory and his mind, leaving him with little but rage as he begins the ordeal of rehabilitation. When his marriage suddenly ends, Edgar begins to wish he hadn't survived his injuries. He wants out. His psychologist suggests a new life distant from the Twin Cities, along with something else:
"Edgar, does anything make you happy?" "I used to sketch." "Take it up again. You need hedges...hedges against the night." Edgar leaves for Duma Key, an eerily undeveloped splinter of the Florida coast. The sun setting into the Gulf of Mexico calls out to him, and Edgar draws. Once he meets Elizabeth Eastlake, a sick old woman with roots tangled deep in Duma Key, Edgar begins to paint, sometimes feverishly; many of his paintings have a power that cannot be controlled. When Elizabeth's past unfolds and the ghosts of her childhood begin to appear, the damage of which they are capable is truly devastating. The tenacity of love, the perils of creativity, the mysteries of memory and the nature of the supernatural -- Stephen King gives us a novel as fascinating as it is gripping and terrifying. (Vampires and Dhampirs)
(Yet another gem from the Hendee's)
(Traitor to the Blood - Review) Traitor Of The Blood is the forth book in the Noble Dead series.
In this novel we see Leesil going in search of the fate of his missing mother and father, after Leesil escaped the dreaded clutches of his master the brutal war lord, Lord Dormouth. Leesil takes his lover Magiere and two friends Wynn and Chap into the Warlands to face almost certain peril, here they will all face evil warriors, elvin assassins and dreaded shape shifters, as always the two evil Noble Dead Chane and Welstiel are on there tale.
This is another great edition to the Noble Dead series, plenty of action and adventure, as with book three you get a real sence into the history of one of the main characters Leesil. A great series that is well worth reading, i'm looking forward to reading book five, Rebel Fay. ...so I have to be choosy about which books I am willing to spend my free time with. I have to admit, I typically stay away from a series - if for no other reason than because school take precedence, and I am not able to read one right after the other-more like one at the end of every semester, but this series is quite the exception. I have sped through 3 books already just on this current Christmas break and have THOROUGHLY enjoyed them. I can't put it down. I would definately recommend reading them in order, and they are VERY enjoyable! This a fantastic book in a series of fantastic books by Barb Hendee. I cannot wait for the next one to to come out so I can read it. I hope this series continues on and on for awhile. Traitor to the Blood is the fourth book in the Noble Dead series by Barb and J.C. Hendee. The first book is Dhamphir, the second is Thief of Lives and the third if Sister of the Dead. If you are considering reading this book, I strongly urge you read the other three first. While you may get the general idea of this story, by reading the other three the story will be much more satisfying and enjoyable for you.
The plot in this book seems to be much more involved that the first three books. In the first three, the plot seemed rather linear and there weren't many subplots. They were still very good books, don't get me wrong. In this book however, it seems the Hendee's made a conscience effort to really have a solid foundation in which to throw their characters. There are several subplots in this book that only add to the mystery of the situation and even within the last one-hundred pages yet another subplot is thrown in for good measure. With all this talk of multiple subplots, you might be thinking this book is confusing. It's really not. The plot, and subplots, are laid out in such a way (and explained) that there is really no confusion. They are merely added elements to the overall story and help explain different characters motivation and feelings.
For the most part the characters in this book as carryovers from the previous three books. Of course, being that the heroes are in a different place now, there are some new additions, but the main cast largely remains the same. This is a good thing though, because it allows the Hendee's to delve deeper into who the characters really are instead of having to explain about new characters all the time. There is a lot of character development in this book for a number of characters. However, there is no secret, this book largely focuses on Leesil and his mission to find his parents. These characters, from the heroes to the villains are very well written and this only adds to the fantastic story of the book, and series. These are not your two dimensional, cliché ridden characters from some other fantasy books that are being published now.
I do have one minor criticism about this book. In the previous books there has always been some levity and humor sprinkled in. That's fine, in fact I enjoy that. However, there was one scene in this book that seemed to be written strictly for the humorous aspect, and it just didn't seem to fit with the part of the story it was placed in. It kind of threw me off a little bit. Again, not a huge deal, but one worth mentioning.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and this series. The Noble Dead series is one of the most underrated fantasy series going on today. There is not much, if any, publicity surrounding the series. In fact, I heard about Dhamphir from another author when I asked about good vampire fantasy books. Sometimes, word of mouth is the best advertising one can get. So, I will close with this. If you like vampire novels and you like fantasy novels don't hesitate at all to jump into this series. You won't be disappointed. They truly are diamonds in the rough and make for some very enjoyable reading.
Traitor To The Blood is the 4th installment in the Noble Dead series and did not disappoint. The focus shifted from Magiere the Dhampir to Leesil the assissain. "Traitor" reveals Leesil's heritage and leads the reader into world of the elves while also expanding the scope and understanding of the world the Hendee's have created. More clues to Magerie's ultimate purpose are provided to peak the reader's curiousity. Additionally, Chap's role and influence are further expalined. The Hendee's writing is vastly underrated. Each character has been given depth and purpose that continues to expand throughout each additional novel. The adventures of Magiere and Leesil continue as they journey into Leesil's savage homeland seeking the family-and secret burden-he abandoned long ago. (Surprised at how good this movie was!)
(Thriller...) Not as well known as some of her other pieces. But i think Taking Lives is one of Angelina's best movies. I must say, "Taking Lives" started out as the usual hum-drum serial-killer thriller, and I wasn't expecting it to be very interesting but like many others I have seen. Was I wrong! I found it hard to tear myself away, as the movie became more and more interesting as it went along. Angelina Jolie played her part well. Eathen Hawk was great. And the ending, which I thought was predictable, turned out to be quite the contrary. Good Blu-Ray quality. Very good acting! Overall this is a good movie, if you're in to suspense films. I wouldn't say this is as good as Silence of the Lambs. I watched this a while ago and liked it. It's an interesting movie that shows how far the antagonist will go to seek a different life.
This particular version, however, is plagued by low volume levels with a 2.0 system. I had the Windows mixer, the PowerDVD volume, and the volume on my speakers at max and the dialogue was still pretty low. I suppose a lot of old movies being formatted for HD will probably have problems with 2.0 speakers, since most Home Theater systems are 5.1 or 7.1
Overall, this movie is a 4 star at best. I chose 3 stars because of the volume issue I was having. And no, I don't need a hearing aid. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 04/07/2009 Run time: 109 minutes Rating: Nr Rerations < Taking Lives [Blu-ray] >

(Why?) This is a nice high-quality DVD of House on Haunted Hill. It was touch spartan; there's no subtitles of either the movie or the riffing, there's no MST3K-style video introduction (which would have been nice; would it have been hard to put a five minute pre-movie warmup, using whatever set came to hand), there's no shadows on the screen (which I've seen done with just subtitles, on the Ghostbusters DVD, IIRC), and there's not even a coming/available advertisement. There's just the movie, and two soundtracks, one with and one without riffing.
As for the meat of the material, House on Haunted Hill is a fairly classic old movie and moderately riffable. I'd place the riffs here about average for an MST3K and there was enough classic horror movie shtics and movie-specific jokes to make it worth my while.
But it is a good classic horror movie, and well worth your time watching it unMST3Ked before ruining all the surprises in the comedic mode. If you've got the DVD and haven't seen the movie, take the time to watch the original first. That says it all: Why? Why tarnish a classic film with the pitiful "comedy" of these hacks? Mike Nelson needs to go somewhere and sit down. Mystery Science Theater 3000 is OVER, buddy. And one of the reasons is that the show was designed to make fun of BAD movies, but seems to ran out of legitimate victims around 1997.
Meanwhile, if you actually LIKE this movie, there are 2 or 3 excellent sources for it on DVD. The Legend Films release even offers a (shudder!) colorized version for you people who think all black&white movies suck.
I know there's still an audience for this kind of humor, but I feel sorry for folks who can't just sit back and enjoy a good old-fashioned movie.
If an eccentric millionaire were to offer you a large sum of money to you spend a night in a haunted house, you might think to yourself, "How did I wind up in an episode of Scooby Doo? Or perhaps a Simpson's Halloween special? Or any one of the countless other TV shows or movies that have employed this hackneyed plot device?"But every cliche has its origins somewhere, andHouse on Haunted Hillmay be the very first movie where a random assortment of guests are summoned to a haunted house. In this case, the haunted house just happens to reside in the Haunted Hill district of town, and it's presided over by a ghoulish master of ceremonies played by Vincent Price. Murder, mayhem and clumsy romance ensue. Fortunately, three of the guests at this party are Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett ofRiffTrax.comandMystery Science Theater 3000fame, on hand to heckle theHouse on Haunted Hill! (Bad color problems)
(The Gothic Horror version of Jason is lighter but pretty fun entertainment.)
(ALICE COOPER SCORE)
(Great Sequel!)
It's been years since Tommy Jarvis (Thom Matthews) defeated Jason and he's still haunted by the painful memories of it all as he decides to go back to Crystal Lake town where he goes to the cemetery to cremate his remains. However he accidently brings Jason (C.J. Graham) back to life ala through a pole in his chest that gets zapped by lightning and rezurrected as a zombie-like creature that is unstoppable as hell. Now that the maniac is on the loose hacking up people, Tommy tries to convice the Sheriff (David Kagen) about Jason but doesn't believe it yet the daughter named Megan (Jennifer Cooke) does and now Camp Crystal Lake has reopened back for business as everyone tries to forget the horrible tragedies that occured years ago until the nightmare as returned.
Awesome installment of the wickedly cool Friday The 13th horror saga! this one delivers more stuff then the last installment which didn't satisfy the lusts for any Jason Voorhees fan since he wasn't in it. The producers originally wanted different killers in place of Jason after part 4 then with part 5 using the concept, the fans didn't accept it as they wanted Voorhees back yet so they did. Featuring an early appearence by Tony Goldwyn and written and directed by Tom McLoughlin, this is one of the best movies of the series! here it has an awesome soundtrack by Alice Cooper, excellent murder sequences especially the triple decapitation and a smirky sense of humor that adds a nice flavor to the series by far.
This DVD provides quality picture and sound all remastered with great extras like audio commentary, slashed scenes even with stuff that was trimmed down to avoid an X rating, Lost Tales from Camp Blood part 6 Short, The Crystal Lake Massacres Revisited part III Mockumentary, Jason Lives: The Making of Friday The 13th part 6 featurette, Meeting Mr. Voorhees featurette of the unreleased but storyboarded ending, and teaser trailer.
Beware the new part 6 dvd. Do you remember that this movie used to be bathed in blue? Well, they've messed with the colors. The blue is gone and replaced by yellowish green. Some may not care but I noticed immediately and was disapointed. When you think of the color of this movie, you think blue. If you thought halloween 25th was bad and it was, get ready for this. I have a soft spot for this installment, though it is the first film in the series to leave behind any traces of scarieness that the previous films tried for, especially part 4. It's funny and director Tom Mccloughlin's(Sometimes They Come Back) Gothic influenced asthetic is a welcome departure from the previous installments. You know what you're in for as the film opens with the unearthed Jason being brought back to life al Frankenstein's monster via a lightning bolt, and then proceeds to rip out Horshach's still beating heart. Yes, this one is off in fantasy land and is just as much concerened with providing laughs as outrageous scares.
This film is the first Friday film with the zombie Jason. Though, one could argue that Jason was always undead. He was difinitively killed at least twice in this series, three if you count that he drowned when he was ten. Anway the kills are more over the top this time and fun---according to the commentary track director Mccloughlin wanted to make sure that the kills were over the top so no kid would feel inclinded to repeat them in real life. He mostly succeeds, though I would question the knife a certain teen recieves int he forehead. The characters are all fairly likeable and funny in this film, like part 4. They see like watered down versions of the teens from part 4, more akin to a sitcom. You don't really care a whole lot about them but you really don't necessarily want them all to get offed.
The problems with this sequel is it's so goofy that it's hard to get into the story. Though, if you can get past the fact that Jason is resurrected by a bolt of lightning I think you'll be fine. Thom Mathews(Return Of The Living Dead parts I and II) plays the lead of Tommy Jarvis, taking from Corey Feldman, and his weak lead performance also brings the film done a couple of notches. Though the female lead and the sherriff more then make up for him. Finally, the ending is weak and totally stupid. I mean, they actually have one of our heroes dragging a rock into the middle of a lake trying to rope Jason around the neck!!! Plus, now that Jason's dead, why would sinking him at the bottom of the lake make a difference? Is Jason too stupid to just take off the hockey mask and slip the chain noose off? Whatever. The film is fun and light and mostly entertaining stuff.
The dvd, like part 4, is loaded and a must have for any Friday fan. There's the ten minute retro doc that is fun, almost as fun as the movie. Then we get the outtakes and deleted scenes that are mostly gore footage, which was alos on the Killer Extras disc from the From Crystal Lake To Manhattan box set. We get yet another installment of the laborious and pointless fan short films Crystal Lake memories and part 3 to the mock news program regarding the Jason Mythology which also takes this sequel's logic holes to task, but in a fun none-venomous way. It was written and directed by Daniel Ferrands(screenwriter of Halloween:The Curse Of Michael Myers, director of doc His Name Was Jason) who is obviously a huge fan of this series.
The most fun special features are the commentary track with director, editor and the actor who plays the sherriff. They are having a blast while watching the film but still manage to give set stories and a behind the scenes feel for how the film came about and how it was made. Most of the Jason underwater stuff was shot in the director's parents pool. Unfortunately, the fake gore required him to buy his mom and pops a new pool filter. "I think it was worth it", Mccloughlin quips. Finally, we get the orignal, never filmed, alternate ending involving the introduction of Jason's father. It's all done with the film's storyboards like a moving comic and has voice over from the actor who played the cemetary caretaker, who was never supposed to die, but after a test screening, Paramaount head honcho Frank Mancuso said the film needed more kills. Mccloughlin decided he liked the character so much and since his original Jason's father ending was scrapped he would bring in the caretaker for a death scene. Jason's father? Could've been a great expansion of the series or an awful additon similar to that of Halloween 5!
PS: Just a heads up, though the picture and sound on the new Friday discs is lightyears ahead of the From Crystal Lake To Manhattan box set, some of that set's special features are not included. For example, the only member of part five that they were able to nab for the box set regarding part 5 was Corey Feldman, and he's the only one not available on the new special edtions for part 4 or 5. Plus, the no special features part 3 and the lame special features part 2, are helped considerably by holding onto the box set's Killer Extras bonus disc. Plus, part three in that set has a fun cast commentary for part 3. I would've much rather seen a film about the actors in part 3 then sit throught that horrible sequel about the characters that they played. Finally, the Killer Extras disc has some cool John Carl Buechler and Tom Savini behind the scenes stuff regarding the make up and gore effects. So, don't chuck the whole box set yet, well, if you're a horror movie geek like me anyway. This is the film which contains a couple of Alice Cooper songs including THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK over the end credits. Plus Ron Palillo (Horshack) from Welcome Back Kotter gets knocked off in the opening. I think that any director would admit that originality is one of the most difficult things to accomplish when creating the sixth film for any horror-movie franchise. Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part 6 is, however, one of the better sequels in the series. Although is does follow the same general formula as it predecessors, this is the first film with "Zombie" Jason who has different characteristics from the older films in the franchise. It is also a non-stop massacre and one of the first films in the series to really speed up the pace of action, something that leaves it feeling more fresh and modern in the vein of much more recent horror films of the last decade.
As a kid, this was always one of my favorites in the series. The film is not nearly as scary as some of its predecessors but, instead, is more slap-stick and tongue-in-cheek. Some fans might criticize that or criticize it for its lack of nudity (usually a staple in the series) but I think its over-the-top kills more than make up for it. Another staple of the franchise that is ignored in this film is ritualistic de-masking of Jason that usually takes place at the end of each film. You don't get that here which is kind of a shame.
Overall, Friday the 13th Part 6 is a fun film to watch from beginning to end. The body count is high in this one. While, it won't scare the crap out you but, in exchange, it will make you laugh a couple of times. Recommended. 4 Solid Stars. customer 's review (Obscure 2 The Flowers)
(Recommended for survival-horror fans and younger players)
(RESIDENT EVIL MEETS TEEN HORROR 7.75 OUT OF 10)
(Grand fun O.O)
(Neet!!) This horror takes place in a college in Fall Creek. There are characters Corey, Amy, Sven, Mei, and Jun. Also joining are a few survivors from the previous Obscure from Leafmore Highschool. There are strange flowers that produce dark mist cause ill effects in people turning them into mutants.
In this game you can switch out your characters for another one, partnering with the AI or a friend. Each of the characters has a special attribute, like acrobatics, computers, strength, etc. It does get annoying when you don't have the right character and have to go all the way back to where your group is to switch out.
The combat is a little better than the first Obscure, the enemies seem to actually get stunned with hits. They can damage you a great deal, but not as crazy as Obscure 1. You use blunt weapons from hockey sticks, bats, gold clubs, and chain saws. You do get some guns in this game from pistols, shotguns, flare guns, and stun guns. A bit more variety of weaponary this time around. Combat is more satisfying here.
The characters themselves, there are alot of them that are not very likable. There are maybe 2 or 3 I like out of the bunch. They all tell alot of jokes, or insult eachother during your survival. Their reaction should be a bit more when killer monsters are hunting after them throughout the campus.
Throught the game there will be a good number of puzzles to get through to the next room. This can be fun at times and challenging. You cannot use the same save point twice, so you have to be careful not to waste it.
This is a decent game, and sequel which I think is better than 1. The game is only $20. If your really into survival horrors, and have beaten Resident Evils, Silent Hills, and Fatal Frames you might want to pick this up for the good price it's selling at. The other reviews here are all accurate -- it's a decent game, and worth $10-$20, but that's about it. My first couple hours with the game were great. It looks good, sounds good, and had a promising set-up. I was psyched with what I saw and excited to find out where it was going. Unfortunately, it wasn't going anywhere. By the end of the first Boss battle, I thought I'd seen all there was to see, and I was right. The game doesn't get much more difficult or creepy, and there is no character development. The AI is surprisingly bad considering you MUST have two characters with you at all times. I had a horrible experience with weapon selection -- I can't count the number of times I armed my sidekick with a gun, only to see them whacking away with a golf club.
Still, I have to admit I enjoyed playing it to the end! It's an easy game. You will never throw your controller down in frustration, and the save points are well-placed and frequent. Although I didn't give a hoot about the overarching plot, I was always compelled to finish the chapter. It keeps you going in little spurts, which may be a blessing in disguise for this title... it's a great game to put down for awhile and pick back up again.
I recommend this to any survival-horror fan who wants a game to tide them over between Silent Hill, Resident Evil, and Fatal Frame releases. Also recommended to anyone who may find those titles too scary or gory -- this is horror that would be appropriate for younger players.
Pros: Pacing, Ease, Save-Point Locations, Music, Graphics Cons: Horrible Camera, Bad AI, Boring Story When I played this game for the first twenty minutes, my impression of it wasn't exactly glowing. Crappy aiming, stupid camera, and incredibly awful dialogue threatened to spoil the whole experience. Then a miracle happened. The game became good and interesting. It was still frustrating, but it became fun. I think critics were a little quick to give this game crappy reviews. This isn't exactly a flawless game, and does its damndest to be like its fellow PS2 contemporary survival-horror game Resident Evil 4 (A game that's the definition of a flawless game). It certainly doesn't succeed in being like Resident Evil, but it's a decent game nonetheless. WHAT THE GAME IS: A survival-horror title and the second entry of the Obscure games. The game's story is incredibly stupid along with the dialogue. It makes the old Resident Evil games look like Academy Award-winning, Golden Globe Nomination material in comparison. A group of college kids are trying to forget their past memories during High School after it was massacred by a mysterious organism. Now everyone in the dorms of Fallcreek University is getting high on a new substance made from a black flower that causes horrific nightmares for hallucinations. When the group of kids decides to go to a party at another university the flowers bloom and kill or turn the college students into monsters. Now they have to escape and kill these monsters that are now invading the town. Great. A story about stoners saving their town from a flower. Brilliant! GRAPHICS: Bleh. This game only came out this year, what the hell is this? A PS2 game shouldn't look like this! It looks like the original Obscure that I have for my old Xbox, and that game was made in 2004! Texture problems, the environments are too dark to see sometimes (It's like watching AVP: Requiem all over again), and the fact the environments get a little repetitive at times. This darkness problem gets annoying and can get you lost. I also noticed animation stutters and weird little glitches during gameplay. MUSIC: This is the one area this game does better than Resident Evil 4. The music is fantastic and has a rather awesome haunting melody to it which adds to the creepy environments. SOUND: Oh God, you're gonna want to strangle these people the moment you hear them speak. The dialogue is incredibly crappy. The actors suck, and don't make the plot sound serious at all (Even during tragic death scenes). They're disastrous, but then again they're trying to imitate stoners so they do kind of sound like them. GAMEPLAY: This area is a mixed bag. I despised the shooting controls. Why the hell would you even bother implementing an over-the-shoulder view if you can only hope your dumbass character knows how to aim, because you can't aim for yourself. The bash-enemies-to-death gameplay worked fine and proved to be of more use most of the time. The chainsaw should only be used to cut logs apart, don't use it in combat. As much as I would have loved to go Doom-style on these ***holes, you can't. The stun gun also sucks too and is pointless. The gameplay is also hampered by the stupid camera because it can get in your way. I also didn't the fact you can't just go forward if your team member dies. You get six playable character with their own unique skills (Well, actually only three have special skills, the others just suck). When your team member dies you have to go back to your last save point. I got pissed at this because only need three of these people: The guy with strength, the guy who can jump high, and the Asian chick who can hack computers. After all these complaints how did this game receive a 7.75? Eventually you get used to some of these problems and I enjoyed solving the puzzles and finding things. Those are what managed to save the experience from the depths of disaster. OVERALL: I'd recommend a rental first because this game is frustrating. But the puzzles, the music, the three interesting characters, the gore, and certain parts of the gameplay salvage the experience. As the psychologist character from South Park would say, "Drugs are bad, m'kay?" THE GOOD: The fantastic music, the puzzles, the gore, the three characters with unique abilities, the creature designs, and other aspects of the gameplay. THE BAD: Stupid camera, crappy gun controls, frustrating missions and deaths, and incredibly crappy dialogue and storyline.
I'm a huge fan of the survival horror genre, but it's very hard to find a good one because most seem to be so wrapped up in making things pop out at you they forget to put an ending or an actual storyline. Then when the ending is there, many times they try to cliffhang it and leave so many loose ends or just something entirely missing. Also many times the co-op is more like Player 1 and the disposable tag-along.
I'll start by saying that any Survival Horror Duo (like my friend and i, we usually switch off controllers, but in this case we could both play) or trio or quartet will likely enjoy the co-op mode in this. All the characters you play have their own special skills, so no ones useless or just fighting to move things around or open things for the most part. You can also change the camera to follow the other character with the R2 button, so if you need whoevers skill to open whatever high up off screen thing, you dont have to blind feel around for it even if the skill owner is player 2.
The characters themselves are a bit video game stereotypey, where the girls are all the smart hot college kids who have lots of sex and the majority of the guys are all the jock-ish athletics who are giving it to them. They gradually grow on you.
On the game itself, there are a few references and reminders of what happened in the first one, including survivors, but if you hadn't read up on the first one, it's a bit hazy. But the graphics are good, the music is very upbeat in some parts and spooky when it needs to be. The story itself is pretty clear throughout. Theres very few types of monsters though. This game was some what short but I got everything that I wanted out of it and I would not mind playing it again. What is the mystery of strange black flowers that have sprung up everywhere on campus? While experimenting with these flowers, you discover a dangerous substance that causes you to experience strange and vivid dreams. On a bad school trip, when the seeds finally germinate, you find out the horrible reality of the flowers. You have to stop a contagion while fighting a horde of mutants before it's too late. This game takes place two years after the gruesome events of the first game. You can choose from among six characters and one AI controlled sidekick, with each character having their own unique abilities. You can switch at different points in the game, and a friend can even join you at any time. Among the many available weapons, light is probably your best ally to keep the monsters at bay.

(Ok game but no comparision to top FPS games out now)
(I had to leave one Star......)
(Sucky game play)
(Full Metal Jacket meets 28 Days Later) To me this game was fun. I defiently enjoyed the campaing and had fun playing it. Basicly, you go to Vietnam and are assinged special missions in which you end up fighting zombies and regular Vietnamise troops. This is a fun game but is nothing like the first Shellshock because you mainly fight zombies. Don't get me wrong it's a good game but it is noting like the first Shellshock. I bought this game because Im a huge COD world at war fan and have wanted a game which deals with the Vietnam conflict. At first I was highly disappointed in comparing the gameplay of this game with COD or FEAR 2 (my current fav games). The graphics don't even compare. After playing through the game on normal mode, it definitely grew on me. I will probably play through one more time, on hard difficultly to unlock the 360 achievements, but probably never again. There is no multiplayer in this one. I would recommend this as a rental only (the campaign mode is not that long), unless you could buy it for under 20 bucks. I dont do many reviews on Amazon. But I write this review to tell you to Not buy this Game.Im an adult, and a huge FPS style game fan. When I heard there were Zombies in Shell Shock 2 I read the reviews, and figured "It cant be that Bad" and with my Love of Zombies and First Person Shooters,I tracked down a used copy.Strange there was a used copy so soon after its release....Now I know why. This game is absolutely Horrible. No redeeming aspect is offered from this game. Horrible Graphics,Bland level design, weak feeling weapons,Impossible to tell where your enemies are. The sound is ok,the score is forgettable. If your looking to blast Zombies, stick with Left 4 Dead. I got Shell Shock 2 for 33.00 and it was a huge waste of money. Graphics for the Old Bond Games on a Nintendo 64 are better than this, and were also much more Fun than this. Seriously, avoid this Game. Buy Fear 2 or wait for the DLC for Left 4 Dead. Im taking mine back tomorrow. Call of duty 4 and 5 have set a standard for these types of first person war games that all other games simply fall short of. The gameplay is choppy and the enemies are at times impossible to find on the screen until its too late and you are already dead. The title of the review is exactly what to expect with this release. The plot of the game revolves around some experimental drug called "WhiteKnight" that was tested on soldiers during Vietnam. Needless to say it doesn't workout so well and it basically transforms the soldiers to 28 Days Later (Widescreen Edition) style infected. You assume the role of a newly arrived soldier trying to find your brother who was involved in the experiments.
Graphics are actually quite decent. Something that I found strange was at times the graphics appear to be seamless then at other times it looks as if its a cleaned-up, steroid-injected XIII (and I mean that in a good way). Controls/Player movement are okay, unfortunately there is no "cover" method and that hurts the gameplay significantly. While you still can kneel behind objects you can still get shot. Also the hit-detection seems a bit off at times. Many times you can shoot directly at someone and hit some sort of invisible barrier around objects.
Gameplay is an excellent blend of a Vietnam-style FPS and a horror-survival game (i.e. Doom 3). If you expect this to be a purely Call of Duty: World at War game you will be highly disappointed and if you expect this to be a purely Doom 3 game you will also be disappointed. Some parts of the game will have you navigating booby-trapped areas and fighting the Vietcong in the jungle shooting at you from all directions (and I do mean all directions) and other parts of the game you'll be fighting off infected in close-quarters combat (inside dark houses, tunnels, etc.) which is actually quite creepy (many times I found myself jumping and swearing at the same time).
This is probably strictly a like-it or hate-it release yet I find myself in the middle ground. While I love FPS's, I'm not the biggest fan of Survival-Horror games which sways my judgement a bit. But if your a fan of both, I don't see how you wouldn't highly enjoy this title. ShellShock 2: Blood Trails, on course for war torn Vietnam, a plane carrying a top-secret cargo known only as Whiteknight is lost over the uncharted jungles of Cambodia. The special ops squad sent in to retrieve it disappears without trace. Until, a month later, one of them walks out. Something in the darkness has driven him insane. Something from the darkness has followed him out.
ShellShock 2 is a violent, first person, survival horror game set against the backdrop of the Vietnam War. Game play centers on the use of psychological horror and fear, relying on the power of suggestion, mood, tension and foreshadowing, implying the notion of danger, potential danger, imminent danger, and horrifying acts that have or are implied to have occurred, or will come to pass. Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's review (Great Game)
(This game is not bad at all)
(Too much going on to have any fun)
(Good concept yet to be perfected)
(good) If you like the style of Clive Barker, you will really enjoy this title. It is a very dark and twisted game, that is full of grotesque, demonic creatures waiting to end your life. The game is full of suspense, a few scares and memorable creatures. Maintaining your squad can be a little hectic at times, but you learn to make it work. A very fun and engaging game. A must buy!!!
P.S. No iron sights are available on this game. A scope is available to the Jericho sniper When I started this game I went in with a bad attitude from the beginning due to all the bad reviews. The game starts off a little slow but as you go on it gets better and better. I'm done with the game and I liked it a lot. Make your own decision about the game. Although I haven't finished it yet, I'm well into the game (no idea how close to the end, but with some exceptions PS3 games tend to be on the short side) and have been through several sections when your magical abilities come into play.
They ruin the game, frankly. It's a great idea - each member of the team has unique weapons and magic. It ruins the game for one simple reason - in almost every situation where you'd like to make use of magic (basically, every fight), things are happening so fast you don't have time to switch characters and cast. Also, most of the time half of them are knocked out before you even have the chance. With one character's arm-mounted minigun, which should be a butt-kicking weapon, it takes 700,000 rounds to kill an enemy. And that's just the non-bosses. Playing on easy.
It does look good. Some complain the surroundings are a bit repetitive, but you are in a desolate ruin, not some nearly pristine relic site like in a Tomb Raider game, so to me it fits. The enemies look good and are genuinely mean, and the way a swarm of flies appears and whisks their corpses away was a pleasant surprise. It's great for fans of the gore factor, too.
If this had teammates that don't die at the drop of a hat, gave you a little more health to work with (you die a lot, and die, and die, and die, again and again and ag...), and paused when you bring up the character select, it would be a much better game. Maybe it would even be better without the magic, as a straight ahead shooter. In any case, it simply fails to deliver on its concept.
I'll definitely finish it (or try to), because it certainly does have its good points, but won't be keeping it. The team system is badly flawed and what magic they do have isn't all that fun to use anyway. Taken simply as a shooter, there's nothing special about it. I'd say rent or buy on the cheap. I have been playing video games for about 20 years and can honestly say this is probable the second first person shooter I have really gotten into. I think the concept is great you die very early in the game only to realize your soul can enter your teams bodies and control them. Each charater has different abilites though your probable going to use some characters more then others. There are certain enemies that only have a weakness in there backs, so its kind of cool to jump back and forth between guys to be in range. While other people seemed to dislike the whole reviving your guys, I kind of liked it, ultimatley it makes it so that you can never die if you keep guys alive. There were many times in the game, were I would be running to revive a guy before I got killed, only to get killed just as I revived the guy and had to do it again. I could see how it could annoy people but I actually enjoyed it. I thought the story and graphics were very good. Theres an overall creepy feel to the game and I did like that each character has different abilites. One can astral project, one can move objects, one can summom a spirt to attack your enemy. I would definantly understand what they do before really getting into the game. I played about 75% of the game before I realized how useful some were and made things way to hard to the point were I wasn't having as much fun as I could have. At the same time I felt this game could have been better then it was and could see a Jericho 2 being outstanding. For the most part you will probable use only a couple of characters.
*I also figured I would mentioned one part in the game that will make you pull your hair out. Don't remember the level but at one part enemies just keep coming and coming. I read online that you just have to keep killing them but I played it for 2 hours wanting to bash my head in and didn't clear it. But an really simple way to clear this is use delgado and jump down to the gate and use your dragon thingy R1 special move and you will attach a guy on the other side and door will open. Your going to thank me for that. the game is good graphics cool, althought a multiplayer mode would have made it better. Jericho is a squad-based action/horror game based on an original concept and story by acclaimed horror writer and film maker Clive Barker. The most ancient of evils has broken through into our world and is threatening to spread its taint across the whole of the earth unless it's stopped. At ground zero lies the Middle Eastern city of Al-Khali, a modern city built atop the ancient ruins of a dozen previous conquerors. All attempts of contacting the citizens of the city have failed. With tensions already running high in the region, this is just the sort of thing that could trigger the apocalypse. In Clive Barker's Jericho, players assume the role of the leader of the Jericho Squad - a seven man Special Forces strike team that protects U.S. interests against paranormal threats. Each member of the squad is an expert in modern warfare as well as their own different para-psychological disciplines, including clairvoyance, alchemy, blood magic, exorcism, etc. Players must lead the Jericho Squad into the flaming ruins of the city, moving block by block towards the dimensional rift tearing away at its heart. Along the way, they encounter the horrific armies of hellish denizens that now rule the city and corrupt everything they touch. As players incrementally approach the source of evil, they will have to rely less and less on traditional weapons and instead focus on the combined psychic talents of the Jericho Squad.
