Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Great hidef quality) 『We all know the movie rocks. What about the BluRay quality?
This is an excellent, real hi-def movie (unlike the Terminator BluRay) with fantastic audio. I've saw the movie on the big screen, then on DVD. BluRay at home with a 5.1 sound system is the way to go. If you're a fan of Arrrnold, SciFi, Philip K. Dick (the movie is based on one of his books, We Can Remember It For You Wholesale) or action movies, then this disc is for you.』
(Discard) 『Personally, I found that after watching "Total Recall" once on DVD, I could not watch it again. I am going to trade it in.』
(Total Recall) 『This movie displays new power when viewed in Blu-ray high definition format. I have seen this movie many times and wanted to add HD to my library of older movies. As with many futuristic movies the authors assume that the lower denomination of the human equation will go into space with the scientists and explorers. Although I hope this is not the case in reality. I hope that the people who venture to Mars are a bit more refined.』
(The worst quality Blu-Ray out there!) 『I got a BD player a year after they came out while the format war was still going on and I read reviews of the discs. They always said that this one was not too great but acceptable. Some how, some people rate The Terminator (first 2) discs as poor when they are not. Total Recall is by far THE worst BD disc ever!
This one gets the same type of review as Robocop from the reviewers. It is no wonder why these discs are $10 or less! This is a very poor representation of Blu-Ray or even HD. I am good at spotting resolutions with my eye and I can tell that this is not an HD master. It has to be a 480I give or take a few lines!
This is nothing more than an upconverted picture, but upconverted DVD's look much better in most cases. From the moment the credits roll, there is severe crushing, noise and low resolution. The picture quality is so bad that it looks like analog cable with a damaged cord - THAT bad! The noise (it can't be mere film grain alone) is so horrible that the film grain has noise that moves and changes colors!
The colors were bland and there was NOTHING HD about the picture in any way. There was no 3D effect when looking at the picture. No facial details. No stitching in the clothing - nothing. The sound was weak as well since it was in DTS-HD, not Master Audio. Hey, it was one of the early BD titles.
Instead of steady re-releasing Terminators, they need to remaster this! I avoided it out of fear of the reviews, but the reviewers were too soft on this one. Do not get it if you are looking for HD picture.
On another note, it was weird (I know) to see so many tube TV's 100 years into the future. Even 2001: A Space Odessy predicted flat screens.』
(Great movie, very poor Blu-Ray quality -- grainy picture, few extras) 『Fantastic movie, but this is the poorest-quality Blu-Ray image quality that I have yet seen.
I traded in my Special Edition DVD of this movie for the Blu-Ray version with the expectation that the new version would have high-definition video and at least a few of the Special Edition's extras. Not so.
The video is very grainy and spotty, almost like watching a videotape recorded in a theater with the camera pointed at the screen.
The disk includes a single featurette and none of the commentaries or other extras that were included in the Special Edition.
If you possibly can, don't buy -- wait for a fully remastered and restored Blu-Ray which includes the commentaries.』 『This science fiction blockbuster from 1990 began its production life as a very different movie than the one that was released. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A Great Film) 『I had searched high and low for years for the next hidden great classic sci-fi film for me to watch and I finally found it right under my nose.
Enemy Mine and me go way back...way, back to the first time I saw it on cable back when I was barely a teen and changed the channel after only attempting to watch only a few minutes of it. Since then, every time I saw it on cable, I would change the channel shortly thereafter. I used to wonder why it seem to have always pop up every now and again either in name or display. After watching it tonight, I discovered why.
It is a great film.
When I first saw it, I could not appreciate what makes this film so great, a story of loyalty, friendship, and good characters. This film is not your high speed space chase with with lasers blasting all over the screen and I think this is why I never gave the film a chance initially but I am glad I did tonight. The second half of teh film really gets even more interesting and was pretty moving. Great job by Louis Gossett Jr. and Dennis Quaid.
I highly recommend this film. Forget that the special effects are dated and just enjoy the characters and story.
』
(This film has aged well - it's still watchable and fun!) 『Many old sci-fi movies, such as 1971's Andromeda Strain, are embarrassingly "dated" and unwatchable now, but Enemy Mine is still entertaining (even though I do admit that I would trim about 10 minutes if I were the editor).
I give 5 stars only to movies that I think everyone should see before they die, and Enemy Mine isn't in that league, but still I highly recommend it.』
(sci-fi) 『worlds collide as two enemy soldiers crash on a mining planet and have to work togeter or die.』
(He ain't ugly... He's my brother) 『"Enemy Mine" is an unusual kind of film. If you walk in on someone watching it, it just looks kind of corny, and in some ways it is. In some ways it is kind of a sci-fi "dances With Wolves" (but thankfully not so long) where the protagonist soldier goes "Native" when deprived of the company of his own kind.
And while I don't want to read too much into this story, it does have a lot of food for thought, from how differences can seem much bigger than they are if reasonable people take the time to (pardon the metaphor) "walk a mile in the other persons moccasins", to what it means to be human. One of my favorite Authors, Orson Scott Card, has posited in one of his stories that it is impossible to really, truly know someone without loving something about them. I know, I know there are a million examples you can counter with, but it is food for thought.
Believe it or not, I used to tell a part of this story when teaching several classes on marriage relations. A weird part in this story is that the "Draconians" were asexual and "Gerry" the Draconian gives birth, he explains to the Human the reason why humans are so lonely is that they divided into two sexes. I used this as a metaphor to explain the "they shall no more be twain, but one flesh" scripture. I'm sure some may have had an issue with it, but it makes sense to me.
So here's the deal, this isn't the best sci-fi movie you'll ever watch, but it is one I really like, and you might too.

(E#nemy Mine) 『This film is an oldy but a goody. The story line is very rivetting and is based on a story line that is often used now. One race is at war with the other race, they both crash land on a deserted planet and end up becoming the closest of friends. Very very good, uplifting, exciting, with good special effects, especially when one takes into consideration the fact that the film was filmed in the early to mid 80's. If you like scifi and are looking for a film for the whole family this is the one for you.』 『Lizard-like Draconian Louis Gossett Jr. and his mortal enemy, earthling Dennis Quaid, crash-land on a hostile planet during a brutal space battle. Forced to rely on one another for survival, they overcome their differences and become fast friends. You can almost hear them break into an off-key version of "It's a Small World." German director Wolfgang Petersen, so brutally honest with his filmDas Boot, turns warm and cuddly on us with this intergalactic buddy movie. Much of the problem, though, is that the script sets us up for an intriguing encounter, then settles for a simple and sentimental resolution. Noteworthy set design and strong performances, especially by Gossett, push this beyond mere mediocrity. His performance is fascinating, as he must speak in an alien tongue, which he maintains with artistry and consistency.--Rochelle O'Gorman』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Oh my god it's "The Blair Crap Project") 『Let's start out if you can't see that this film is a badly improvised horror film then you must not have viewed the great films of the horror genre. Let's start out with the fact that is not a real documentary these are just actors (badly at that) because I remembering that there were those that thought for sure that this was all for real and that the filmmaker's just claimed that this was fiction. When you see 555-idiot on the missing posters in the picture that mean's that it's the number used in movies only. I remembered reading that in the first take were we see the little stick figures that the actor's in the film walked all over them and that the director's had to go back and pick up all there twigs and that them they should have been terrified of them. So, when you hear me outside your house tonight banging on your door I'm really the Blair Witch coming to get you. BOOOOOO.』
(plays to my worst fears) 『9.7 THE FILM ITSELF 8.0 VISUALS 9.5 SOUND 8.3 PACKAGING 8.5 EXTRAS
I have always loved The Blair Witch Project. From the first time I saw it in theatres when I was too young to understand what exactly was going on to the dozens of times I've seen it since, it always scares me. It always gets under my skin and makes me want to crawl into a paranoid little ball. The story follows three college kids filming a documentary about the legend of the Blair Witch. It looks real. It was marketed as real. And it feels exceptionally real. And it makes it that much more frightening.
But even when you know it isn't real, it's still a great horror movie with no slasher type villains or indestructible evil monsters. This movie builds on paranoia and angst and it works like a charm. I personally hate being in a large area of darkness (this film has it), I hate hearing random disturbing noises in said black area (this film has it), and I hate when people start screaming their faces off into the darkness (this film has it). So maybe I love this film because it plays to my fears and it's one of only a handful to truly frighten me, but isn't that what a film is supposed to do?
The special features are great. The commentary alone with the creators is fantastic. The four of them seem to e best friends and talk alot about the making of each scene and how everything was placed together. I was skeptical about how a commentary for this movie would go, but I was exrememly surprised with how much insight they gave to the film. One of the best commentaries I've listened to yet (as far as information is given). The other good special feature is the "Curse of the Blair Witch" which covers the history of the story. It may sound simple, but there are alot of backstories to the growing legend. It looks great and sounds like something you'd see on Unsolved Mysteries. The rest of the special features aren't anything great - or lengthy - but it definitely doesn't ruin the feel of the film. "Newly Discovered Footage" was the only letdown because it was one scene that is actually in the film, just in a different way.
I know alot of people hate this film, because it wasn't scary or because it made them "sick" (how? I don't see it), but for horror fans looking for something new and not something cheesy, I would strongly recommend The Blair Witch Project, especially if you have the same fears as I do.
9.8/10 "INCREDIBLE"』
(What are you guys talking about!?) 『This movie scared the hell out of me, I can only say that about the ring, the grudge, the blair witch project and of coarse the exorcist. Cheap film but certainly does the job.』
(Better than Expected) 『I like this movie for a few reasons.
First of all, I like the "documentary/mocumentary" style. It's completely different and refreshing. It reminds me of watching any regular family's home videos, which have some kind of campy yet relate-able appeal. I felt like I was really watching someone's video, instead of a movie that was trying to make it appear like it.
Also, I like how the horror snuck up you. Still watching halfway through, it still feels like a regular camping scenario (which I still enjoyed watching because I've done my share of hiking in the woods myself), but then they find strange objects. As the movie progresses, they continue to find "presents" which get stranger and stranger, and the scenario at the very end was very eerie indeed.
You never see any "ghosts" or hear anything out of the ordinary, which adds to the creepiness. Their hike is like any hike that you or I may experience, except that the more lost they get, the stranger things become. Only, these strange things could very easily happen in real life.
I just have some questions. I'll try to make them as vague as possible for those who still haven't seen the movie. What was in that bundle of sticks that the girl unwrapped (I couldn't tell what exactly it was)? Why were those hand prints there? Why was the guy just standing there (or how should I say, why couldn't he move? I would've been fighting tooth and nail)
Still, the whole atmosphere of the movie towards the end is just super creepy, and I had to wait a while until I could go to sleep, lol.』
(Modern Horror Classic) 『After recently seeing the enjoyable but flawed "paranormal activity" I was inspired to revisit this movie. I first saw it at 18 y/o, when it was still in very limited release (at the time I think it was only at one theater in Chicago). I walked in knowing the general premise of the movie and knowing it wasn't "real", but the movie still provided me with probably the most impactful movie going experience i've ever had (at least on a visceral level). Never before or since had I had such an overwhelming sense of dread walking out of a theater, and the ending of the film was something that lingered with me for weeks later.
Repeated viewings, however, didn't hold up as well.... I imagine due largely to the fact that there isn't an inherent entertainment factor to the movie (the dialougue is naturalistic, and as such isn't particularly clever or entertaining), and due to the fact that there was no way the movie could live back up to my initial viewing. But watching it again after roughly 5 years, I was reminded of what is/was so great about this movie. As many others have already said, what we can't see is always more frightening than what we can, and that's what the entire movie is based on, but equally as frightening is the idea of the unknown... that is to say, to not know what to do, to not know what will happen to us next, and in that sense the film really excels.
As we watch the three filmmakers wander through the woods, becoming more and more lost and running out of options, the viewer becomes more and more caught up because we don't know what is going to happen next.... the conclusion is never obvious or (IMO) foreshadowed in a conclusive way. As movie watchers we become so used to conventions of genre that more often than not we know how a film will likely end as soon as it begins, and 99% of the time we know whats headed for the characters before the characters themselves know. Blair Witch does not allow the viewer this comfort, which makes it all the more unsettling.
As such, the ending comes as a shock, and the use of the house at the end, after over on hour of wandering through seemingly endless woods, is about as effective of a horror device as I've ever seen used. But be forewarned, in order to really get the most out of this movie, it needs to be watched intensely, that is to say in a dark room, without family/friends talking, without a computer in the background, without the phone on. If you just half-watch the movie, you will get next to nothing out of the amazing last 20 min, and will likely end up among the many other one star reviews.』 『Anyone who has even the slightest trouble with insomnia after seeing a horror movie should stay away fromThe Blair Witch Project--this film will creep under your skin and stay there for days. Credit for the effectiveness of this mock documentary goes to filmmakers Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez, who armed three actors (Heather Donahue, Michael Williams, and Josh Leonard) with video equipment, camping supplies, and rough plot outlines. They then let the trio loose into the Maryland woods to improvise and shoot the entire film themselves as the filmmakers attempted to scare the crap out of them. Gimmicky, yes, but it worked--to the wildly successful tune of $130 million at the box office upon its initial release (the budget was a mere $40,000).
For those of you who were under a rock when it first hit the theaters,The Blair Witch Projecttracks the doomed quest of three film students shooting a documentary on the Burkittsville, Maryland, legend of the Blair Witch. After filming some local yokels (and providing only scant background on the witch herself), the three, led by Heather (something of a witch herself), head into the woods for some on-location shooting. They're never seen again. What we see is a reconstruction of their "found" footage, edited to make a barely coherent narrative. After losing their way in the forest, whining soon gives way to real terror as the three find themselves stalked by unknown forces that leave piles of rocks outside their campsite and stick-figure art projects in the woods. (As Michael succinctly puts it, "No redneck is this clever!") The masterstroke of the film is that you never actuallyseewhat's menacing them; everything is implied, and there's no terror worse than that of the unknown. If you can wade through the tedious arguing--and the shaky, motion-sickness-inducing camerawork--you'll be rewarded with an oppressively sinister atmosphere and one of the most frightening denouements in horror-film history. Even after you take away the monstrous hype,The Blair Witch Projectremains a genuine, effective original.--Mark Englehart』

I was in the front row as they put the youngest and lowest grades in front as the children in the higher grades could see over our heads. It was on a Friday afternoon, and I, being just a child, had the hell scared out of me (the large bed sheet used as a screen was no more than 10 feet in front of me) when Larry Talbot changed into the Wolf Man in a jail cell, snarling and rattling the bars as the camera panned in for a closeup. To mention just how effective the special effects were at the time, that scene created a fear that lasted for a very long time. I was especially fearful at night when alone and for years afterward dreaded going into my dark bedroom. No matter how I tried to describe my fears to my parents, they could not understand and never allowed me have even the tiniest light to allay my anxieties. (They were not cruel . . . things were simply different in those days.)
Looking back, I think that those original "Wolf Man" movies were the state of the art in their day and there are few things new today that can compare with those ground-breakers.
This is the first time I came across the movie ("Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man") where I thought the scene was. It was not. Next I watched the first in the series, "The Wolf Man," and it was not in that movie either.
This is the first time I have seen any of the "Wolf Man" series since I saw that movie almost 70 years ago, and I can still picture that transformation from man into beast, with the creature wildly raging against the confines of the bars in the cell.
Is there anyone out there that recalls this scene and in which movie it occurs? Perhaps I am recalling the correct movie but the scene was not included in the re-release.
Thanks,
』
(The Best of Lon Chaney) 『This set has the best horror work done by Lon Chaney; the original "Wolf Man" and the follow-up movie, "Wolf Man Meets Frankenstein." I know the first movie by heart and see it often on TCM during Halloween. The second movie isn't shown as often and is one of my all-time favorites.
In the "Wolf Man Meets Frankenstein," they give us a chilling atmospheric opening. Two grave robbers break into the tomb of Lawrence Talbot, who died in the first movie. I won't spoil it for you if you haven't seen it but the grave robbers learn the error of their ways. Lawrence Talbot aka The Wolf Man is free again.
I hadn't seen "Werewolf of London," or "She-Wolf of London," in years. But the addition of these two movies doesn't distract one bit from the set. In "She Wolf," Lockwood is terrific as the frightened woman who thinks she's a werewolf. She may be, but I'm not saying!
In today's world of horror, this is tame enough for family viewing. If you have very young and easily-frightened children, maybe not. It would probably earn a PG rating.』
(One of the Best of Universials Monsters.) 『I am glad to add this to my collection but at the same time. I was dissapointed by only two of the Talbot Wolfman series. I admit to having never seen the other two movies of this collection. But I look forward to seeing them. I do recommned this collection of any fan of the Classic Horror movies.』
(All time classic!!!) 『Just bought this movie and I am very happy with it. Four movies are included and each one is good. The original Wolfman is my favorite. I would highly reccomend this movie to anyone who likes classic horror films.』
(A Werewolf Collection, yes. The Wolfman Legacy, no.) 『Until now, Universal has done an amazing job with their legacy collections, condensing every Dracula, Frankenstein, Mummy, Invisible Man, and Creature from the Black Lagoon film into single, easily affordable volumes. Unfortunately, the Wolf Man Legacy collection is where that all goes wrong. This volume only contains two of the four Wolf Man films and, in place of the last two installments, includes two Universal werewolf films that have no relationship to the Wolf Man series at all.
The true crime here is that the Larry Talbot Wolf Man series is, undoubtedly, the strongest and most consistent of the Universal monster franchises. It is the only series where the monster is played by the same actor each time, and it's the only series where we actually see that character develop in believable and logical ways with each installment. Larry Talbot begins as a frightened child of a man who has no idea what to do with the cruel fate that has been inflicted upon him. By the time of Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman, he has become a stronger and more resolved character, desperately working in search of a cure. In the two remaining sequels not included in this collection (House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula), this progression goes even farther, ultimately finding Larry as a tragic hero, resigned to work toward killing himself in order to save society. It's rich, character-intensive stuff; the kind of thing you wouldn't normally expect to see in a Universal monster film, let alone a franchise sequel.
House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula are (presumably) not included in this collection because their titles suggest that they are Frankenstein and Dracula films, but this is not the case. The Frankenstein monster plays an entirely insignificant role in House of Frankenstein, being literally reanimated at the very end of the film. House of Dracula, on the other hand, features Dracula prominently throughout the film, but it is still clearly a Larry Talbot story, with Larry playing the central character with whom we identify. More importantly, while both of these films include significant character development for Talbot, they do absolutely nothing to further the stories of Count Dracula nor the Frankenstein monster. These are Wolf Man films, through and through, and they are as important to "the Wolf Man Legacy" as the first Wolf Man film included in this volume.
Well, enough whining. So long as you know that you're going to have to buy two other Legacy collections in order to follow the full Wolf Man story, here's the break down of what IS included here. Despite my low marks for this "Wolf Man Legacy Collection," all of these films are worth a viewing:
*The Wolf Man: The first film in the Larry Talbot series is possibly the least interesting. The action is slow-moving, and Larry is a bit too childish and helpless for my taste. However, Claude Rains plays a wonderfully menacing father and brings tremendously rich conflict and emotion to the story. With his help, The Wolf Man becomes a deeply psychological film, more about the conflicted relationship between prodigal son and estranged father than a blood-thirsty monster that kills people (but don't despair, monster fans! There's plenty of the latter, as well). Viewed in this light, the ending of the film is stunning in its significance.
*Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man: Possibly the best of the Wolf Man films. Here, the focus is still fixed entirely on Larry as he becomes a darker, more tragic figure, mature beyond his years, and bearing a heavy weight about him. Cheney rises to the occasion nicely, and the plot (which is far more busy and exciting than in the first film) certainly meets him part way.
*She-Wolf of London: Though the film begins as if continuing from a previous story ("The Allenby curse had almost been forgotten..."), it is entirely original and has no relationship to any other Universal werewolf picture. It's an unusual film in that the focus is neither on action nor monster make-up. In fact, you never actually SEE the She-Wolf at all. However, this slow-moving film filled with two-dimensional arch-types does one fascinating thing -- it leaves us doubting. The original plan for the first Wolf Man film was that they were never going to show the werewolf. They wanted to keep you guessing as to whether Larry really was transforming or was actually losing his mind. She-Wolf of London runs with that idea, keeping you guessing about June Lockhart's supposed transformations, and the revelation at the end is quite brilliant. If you pay careful attention, you'll probably see it coming.
*Werewolf of London: Universal's first werewolf film, pre-dating The Wolf Man by six years. It's incredibly well cast and features surprisingly strong acting for a monster picture. It also contains a lot of subtlety, such as when a drunk woman at a bar orders drinks for "two ladies" and then comically reveals that she is the two ladies. This tangential episode runs parallel to, and offers thematic insight into, a far darker aspect of the story. There's also some stunning psychological undertones, as the main character's fear and rage about losing his fiance to a former lover seems to take its form in the shape of the werewolf. It's a highly intelligent and complex script, far more than you might bargain for in a Universal monster film. Really, all that weighs the film down is the werewolf, himself. He's less of a monster, and more of an ill-tempered hairy man in a three piece suit who attacks people. He can be knocked out with a blow to the head and killed with a bullet. Theater-goers of the time complained that the film was too much like the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mister Hyde (that film had been in theaters only a few years earlier). They were certainly on to something.
So, all in all, this is a collection of excellent werewolf films, but it loses major marks for not being the full "Wolfman Legacy." I recommend purchasing this set. You will enjoy it. But the Larry Talbot story does not end here. There's so much more worth seeing in House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula, but you'll have to shell out another $45.98 for the Frankenstein and Dracula Legacy Collections in order to find this out for yourself.』 『For the first time ever the original The Wolf Man film comes to DVD in this extraordinary Legacy Collection. (Classic Movie) 『This review is for the Road Warrior Blu-ray edition. This movie is a classic, the best Mad Max movie by far. The Blu-ray transfer is very good, image quality was fine. The only thing that could be improved is that there were not many extras included in this Blu-ray.』
(It's Blu-ray folks!) 『First of all, get your media straight. This is a blu-ray rating, not normal DVD!
The blu-ray quality on this movie is the best I have seen for a live-action, non-special effects movie. The very first scene in the movie is a road moving past you at high speed as if you are straped to the hood of a car. The picture is perfectly clear.
The movie itself is also very entertaining and fast pace. It is a real unique movie that is hardly made these days.

(Max never looked better.) 『I've been a fan of this movie ever since it came out. I've always been disappointed with the mediocre image quality on the DVD edition of the Road Warrior. It always lacked detail and looked grainy; I feared that the original print of the movie was of low visual quality. I recently got a 46 inch Hi-Def LCD set and had watched the DVD on it. The image was bigger but no better. The Blu-Ray version of The Road Warrior ( or Mad Max 2 since this is the original Australian version,) is far superior to the DVD. There is far more detail and the colors are more saturated. I found the widescreen scenes of the Aussie desert quite stunning. This film is easily worth the discounted price it sells for on Amazon. Since this is the original Aussie version of the film, there are about ten more minutes of the movie which were trimmed out of the U.S. version. While the Aussie version doesn't move quite as quickly as the U.s. version, it is more complex and interesting. The added detail of the Blu-Ray makes the road battle finale even more dramatic. You have to admire the fearlessness of the stuntmen as they are thrown dozens of feet through the air during those amazing crashes. As this was in the days before CGI, what we see is more or less what really had to happen in front of the camera. Obviously some scenes have dummies getting crushed under wheels, but those are brave guys driving down that narrow road with that huge tanker. Sadly, the Special features are rather sparse. We do get a commentary track with director George Miller and the director of photography. While I could have wished for a making- of featurette, the Blue-Ray commentary is far better than the zero features of the DVD. If you love this movie, You should see this disc. 』
(The story of a roads scholar) 『Wandering through the blasted interior of post-apocalyptic, gas-starved Australia in his battered Interceptor, Max (Mel Gibson) encounters a community centered around a working oil derrick and besieged by savage outlaws who want their fuel. Events culminate in one of the greatest chases ever committed to film.
Director George Miller made this classic action film with great economy. Characters such as the Gyro Captain (Bruce Spence) and the Feral Kid (Emil Minty) are established quickly and efficiently, gaining our instant sympathy. There are also plenty of unexpected laughs and some genuinely moving moments. "The Road Warrior" is a perfect example of a cast and crew who kept their eye on the goal--non-stop thrills and excitement--but saw that as no impediment to delivering a fully rounded, character driven film. Watch for Farscape's Virginia Hey in an early role as the Warrior Woman. 』 『A strong candidate for the designation of most thrilling action movie ever made (the turbo-charged exhilaration of its full-throttle highway chases has never been equaled), the second part of George Miller's post-apocalyptic trilogy is also a magnificently imagined movie myth. Like theStar Warstrilogy (by that other George) theMad Maxfilms draw their inspiration from the works of mythologist Joseph Campbell. But when a leather-clad gang of sadomasochistic speed demons mows down Max's family, his remaining connections to humanity are also permanently severed. After brutally exacting his revenge, Max wanders off into the wasteland alone, "a burned out shell of a man" who (to paraphraseThe Searchers) is destined to wander forever between the winds. InThe Road Warrior, Max rediscovers a sliver of his shattered humanity, and a spark of redemption, when he helps an embattled colony of pioneers fight off the savages who are after that most precious of all commodities: "guzzline." Max is transformed into a legendary hero, just as Mel Gibson was catapulted to international movie stardom. (Good Stuff) 『I orderd this as a replacement for one that my friend "borrowed" and never returned to me before I moved. I am happy with the transaction, the only difference that I noticed between my previous copy and the one that I ordered was with the exterior case/box. The design is slightly different, it makes the case look like a well loved/read leather bound book a little tattered, but this had no effect on the DVD's playback.』
(Summed up in one word...PERFECT.) 『
Lord of the Rings, the `Gone with the Wind' of the sci-fi fantasy film. The name of these 3 legendary novels has weaved itself deeply into our modern day culture. Whether you read `The Hobbit' in grade school or have read the Tolkien lore time and time again there is no doubt that this original saga is a treasure of that last century.
Turning this epic novel saga into a full length feature film was something that probably every major name in directing wanted to do. Yet, Lord of the Rings may be the most difficult film saga to be created. The story is abundant with characters of all kinds. The plot is rich with detail and the pages of the book themselves describe everything from the way a person walks to a town or landscape down to the last grain of soil. So it was Peter Jackson who decided to rise up and take the task of creating this film. In a time where film making technology has reached a golden age it was time not just to make one film but make a trilogy. It was decided not to film each piece at a time but rather film all three simultaneously and it was something that Mr. Jackson could not accomplish alone. There is a long list of writers, artists, actors editors, and yes millions of fans that lead to the completion of this project. The Lord of the Rings can be summed up in one word. That word is PERFECT.
I have seen a great many films in my life and my favorites would have to be the saga pieces. This saga is a mind blowing masterpiece and getting Oscar for best picture in 2003 sealed its page in the book of fantastic films. I will not review each film individually because they are not meant to be seen individually. The cast is brilliant and the fact that not a single actor was singled out for an individual performance only made it better. The creation of these films was a team effort. Yes there are a few major plot points removed from these films and there are some things that were changed around. I feel as a person who has read the novels and seen the films, feel that these changes were for the best. The books themselves have some dead spots that could be done without and there are characters that really have no place in the story as a whole, but it was very admirable of Jackson to pay homage to the fan favorite Tom Bombadil in the extended edition of `The Two Towers'. The extended editions of these films only make them better as they do make them lengthier. Jackson and the crew really wanted to make these films special so once they did their job in the theaters they called the cast and crew back to add new scenes and extend old ones to make the films truer to the story and enhance the development of the characters. The score done beautifully by Howard Shore is also extended and you can even purchase extended edition soundtracks. The special effects played a major role in this film and they worked the creatures looked extremely lifelike especially Gollum. By using a brand new kind of CGI technology called motion capture, Andy Sirkis was transformed into the somber, mysterious creature that LOTR fans love. The battle sequences in breathtaking and so intense there were moments that kept me on the edge of my seat. The ability to make actors like Elijah Wood and John Rys-Davis look like they were pint size compared to a towering Orlando Bloom or Ian McKellen was done flawlessly. The make-up on all the cast members be it Orc or Elf really brought the Tolkien world off the pages and into reality. Still, I feel that what truly made this film beautiful was the location. New Zealand is a lost world most of the country still untouched by industry. The land still looks like something out of a fairy tale. Through computers and sets, The Shire, Minas Tirith, Rivendell and all the other major cities were brought to life exactly as they are described in the novels.
Even if you are not a fan, I would still suggest seeing these three films. It has nothing to do with the fact that they are fantasy or anything to that extent. It's just because this cinematic marvel goes up there with films such as Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, and Lawrence of Arabia to the more modern day greats like Dances With Wolves and Braveheart. There probably will come a day where a film graces the big screen with this degree of grandeur, but I am quite sure it will be a long time until then. 』
(Great movies.) 『Nnot completely accurate to the books, but let's face it, each movie would be as long as the combined trilogy if they were. Good movies.』
(Lord Of the ring - Extended Edition) 『I got the product before I expected it. I ordered the DVD and received within two days. The quality of the dvd is flawless; without any scratches or dents :-)』 『In every aspect, the extended-edition DVD of Peter Jackson's epic fantasyThe Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ringblows away the theatrical-version DVD. No one who cares at all about the film should ever need to watch the original version again. Well, maybe the impatient and the squeamish will still prefer the theatrical version, because the extended edition makes a long film 30 minutes longer and there's a bit more violence (though both versions are rated PG-13). But the changes--sometimes whole scenes, sometimes merely a few seconds--make for a richer film. There's more of the spirit of J.R.R. Tolkien, embodied in more songs and a longer opening focusing on Hobbiton. There's more character development, and more background into what is to come in the two subsequent films, such as Galadriel's gifts to the Fellowship and Aragorn's burden of lineage. And some additions make more sense to the plot, or are merely worth seeing, such as the wood elves leaving Middle-earth or the view of Caras Galadhon (but sorry, there's still no Tom Bombadil). Extremely useful are the chapter menus that indicate which scenes are new or extended.
Of thefourcommentary tracks, the ones with the greatest general appeal are the one by Jackson and cowriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, and the one by 10 cast members, but the more technically oriented commentaries by the creative and production staff are also worth hearing. The bonus features (encompassing two complete DVDs) are far superior to the largely promotional materials included on the theatrical release, delving into such matters as script development, casting, and visual effects. The only drawback is that the film is now spread over two discs, with a somewhat abrupt break following the council at Rivendell, due to the storage capacity required for the longer running time, the added DTS ES 6.1 audio, and the commentary tracks. But that's a minor inconvenience. Whether in this four-disc set or in the collector's gift set (which adds Argonath bookends and a DVD ofNational Geographic Beyond the Movie: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring), the extended-edition DVD is theFellowshipDVD to rule them all.--David Horiuchi』

Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Barely worth even the low price) 『I was excited about this book at first, the concept is great with the gentle blending of scientific thought with the metaphysical belief, however as I read the book I realized that it was seriously lacking on several levels. The biggest flaw of the book is it appears that Barry and Dustin slopped it out in about a week and neither they, nor the publisher, bothered to even throw the book at an editor. There are so many grammatical errors in the book it's painful to read. My 6th grade daughter could have done a better job of writing a book. There are time when the authors also hint at information but then fail to elaborate. Examples of this include diet and it's link to paranormal phenomena. The book is also a paperback with the pages having 1 inch margins all around. It's such a weak production that I wonder if the authors didn't simply pay to publish it themselves. Overall I think the book is a fast-and-nasty attempt to cash in a bit more on their popularity and is not a serious attempt at educating open minds about the paranormal. The book is confusing and lacking in so many levels that I would not recommend it. For what this book seeks to cover, there are far better sources on the market.』
(Get an Editor) 『This is absolutely the worst book I have ever read from an editing standpoint. "Were" is spelled "where" in almost every instance in the book. One paragraph is printed twice. In another paragraph, the editor's notes are present. Any middle school newspaper editor could have done a better job editing. It makes it hard to take the information contained in the book and the authors seriously.
As to the content, there is some good information contained in the book. The authors repeat themselves them quite a bit, and are very vague on a number of topics. Anyone with a little common sense would know a lot of the information on talking with clients and the investigations.
There are also a couple of parts in the book where the authors imply that some people may be too stupid to ghost hunt, i.e. if someone is using a compass and gets lost he or she should put the compass in the drawer and give up ghost hunting.
This book is okay to supplement your collection, but if you are a beginner and looking for a book to help you get started, there are a quite a few books out there that would be better for you than this book.』
(Information is 5 star worthy) 『The information contained in this book is quite simply invaluable for anyone trying to gather information on paranormal investigations, especially those pertaining to ghosts. The authors are both extremely experienced and knowledgeable in the field and uniquely mix scientific theory in with metaphysics to present what they are currently researching and trying to accomplish during investigations of haunted places. In fact, I would recommend this to be paired with something like Troy Taylor's "Ghost Hunter's Guidebook" for an almost complete ground floor for those looking into how to conduct paranormal investigations.
I enjoyed this book very much and found the concepts spoken of to be extremely interesting. Normally, I'd give this book 5 stars (yes, it is that good), but cannot due to the horrible publishing and editing. The authors' voices are present, but there were problems such as editing notes being printed and published within the text as well as huge grammatical errors. I'd offer to edit this book for free if it would do any good, as the impact of what is contained therein should not be lost due to what amounts to the worst editing job I've ever seen.』
(The Complete Approach) 『A must read for all fans of the paranormal! This book tells you exactly what you need to complete an investigation of your own...from types of entities to equipment...and then some. I find the insight that Dustin and Barry give to this book useful and engaging. A very interesting book.』

A must read for any fan of their show.』 『The Complete Approach, written by two of the best well-known paranormal investigators in the world, Barry FitzGerald and Dustin Pari. The book is fast paced, characters are well developed, and the plot contains a surprising twist. I look forward to reading more of Ellison's books, and I recommend them to anyone. Give the book a whirl, you won't be sorry!』
(Scared the hell out of me) 『I'm a big fan of Ellison's, and of her three offerings, 14 creeped me out deliciously. While the plot is wonderful, what makes Ellison's stories so special is the level of intimacy (good and creepy) the reader is able to achieve with her characters. By the time you have finished 14, Taylor, the main character, will feel like a close friend.
And you would want her ON your side.
I'd recommend 14 to anyone, but reading All The Pretty Girls first would be helpful. 14 stands on its on just fine, but since there is a trilogy, I'd recommend reading all three in order.
Prepare to be scared.』
(Great suspense) 『I remember enjoying All the Pretty Girls - the first in the Taylor Jackson series, but it's been awhile. However it will not be awhile before I read Judas Kiss, the third in the series. 14 was just that good. Taylor is now engaged and dealing with her wedding coming up but also with this Snow White Killer case. More insight is given into her fiancee, her father and her co-workers. I really enjoyed her co-workers, their banter and how well they worked together. Romance figures into this but I would say it is suspense first and foremost since the couple is already involved. Taylor continues to grow as a person and as a detective and I look forward to seeing how well she does in Judas Kiss. If you enjoy suspense and continuing series, I fully recommend getting started with this series. You won't regret it.』
(Another great read!) 『J.T.'s done it again! This is even more intense and well done than ALL THE PRETTY GIRLS. I love Taylor Jackson! She's a real woman with a real job that she obviously loves and is good at. The reader just can tell that Ellison loves her characters and tries to make the reader love them too. She's so totally human and real. Not a super hero, just a woman who's good at what she does. A great love story woven in adds to the joy. I dare you to put it down!』

(review) 『I bought copies of this book for my students. They arrived on time and in perfect condition.』
(Wonderful Story) 『I knew how this book turned out before I even started it. But the author writes so wonderfully I felt like I was just learning the story as I went along. I sat up, wide-eyed, as I read the chase scene, afraid of the ghost as though it were in my room. Amazing author no wonder this is a classic.』
(A Quick, Thrilling Read) 『The majority of this short story is spent on developing the characters, some of which are not pertinent to the story. Once you get through the characters introduction, the story happens quickly and leaves the reader questioning what really happened and a desire for more.
If you're looking for a ghost story, this isn't the book for you. But if you're looking for a thrilling, quick read, definitely pick up this classic.』
(Classic Short Story) 『The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is set in the early 1800s in the Dutch farming community of Tarry Town. Ichabod Crane is the local school teacher and a scarecrow of a man. The first two thirds of the story establish a love triangle between Crane, a beautiful young heiress, and a young man named Abraham Van Brunt. The remainder of the story deals with events involving Ichabod and a certain horseman.
Those reading this book in search of a horror novel will be sorely disappointed. Much of the writing dwells on the atmosphere and charm of the setting, the nature of life in a small community, and other non-suspenseful items. There is a chase that certainly adds tension toward the end, but it is fairly brief. This is not to say that Sleepy Hollow is not worth reading. It's obviously a classic and is a pleasant read. But it's much more of a wry commentary on life in a farming community than it is a tension packed thriller. I would recommend it to any reader willing to accept it for what it is.
』 『The Legend of Sleep Hollow is a story written by Washington Irving, originally published in 1820. Set in the Duth settlement of Tarry Town, New York in a secluded part of town called Sleep Holow. (AWSOME) 『GET THIS GAME, IT'S AWESOME. JUST DON'T GET IT FOR ANYONE UNDER 13. IT'S A BRUTAL GAME. VERY NICE GRAPHICS, AS YOU GET DEEPER INTO THE GAME IT GETS PRETTY HARD JUST TRYING TO FIGURE A WAY OUT OF THE CURRENT SITUATION. THE AI IS NOT BAD AT ALL. VILLAINS ARE SENSITIVE TO NOISE AND MOVEMENT EVEN FROM A DISTANCE. I HOPE THEY COME OUT WITH ANOTHER SEQUEL.』
(cool game) 『pretty fun game, lil slow moving at times but all in all a good game.』
(Really fun game, Kind of Repetative) 『Manhunt 2 is a game that I figured I would eventually play sometime, it wasn't at the top of my list. I had recently gotten a PSP and a Wii and wasn't sure which one to get it for, if I was going to get it at all. My brother then surprised me for Christmas and got it for me on the PSP, not knowing that I was interested in it at all. I just completed it the other day and have some things to say about it.
Now let me preface this by stating that one of my favorite game franchises of all time is the Metal Gear Solid Series (MGS). The best part about those games are the stealth elements. You hide in a corner, tap the wall, the guard patrolling the area walks over to investigate, you grab him from behind as he walks away and choke him out. You can then either stuff him in a locker, carry him around with you, or leave him there for his buddies to see and wonder "I don't remember leaving this here" It's all real fun but can be very frustrating sometimes. If you fail to choke him out then you end up in mediocre hand to hand combat where all you have have is a stun gun and you're aiming frantically for his head, which never works.
Manhunt works the same way, where you hide in a dark corner, wait for the enemy to come find you, and choke him out. Where the games differ though is that if you miss the execution, either he walks away too fast, or you don't time it correctly, the melee combat actually works pretty well. Unlike the MGS games you usually have more than a stun gun with you. In a lot of the levels you're given a shotgun, or machine gun, and you can just gun fools down. On the psp it locks on for you, so all you have to do is run though, push a button to lock on, and fire away. It was a little easy, but it was very satisfying. The levels were very long too so it didn't feel like I was blowing through the game too quickly.
The executions, if you do pull them off, are awesome. They're extremely violent and brutal, and even though they are filtered due to controversy from the ratings board, you can still tell what's going on with no problem. I have always loved Rockstar's games, from the obvious GTA games, to the lesser known Max Payne or Table Tennis games. I am new the the Manhunt franchise and will probably go pick up the original game for the xbox sometime. The story may not have been as engrossing or cinematic as the MGS games, but I found the game play to be just as tight, if not better. The graphics also looked fantastic on the PSP, I was impressed at how well some of the levels looked, probably just as good as the PS2 version. Manhunt 2 is out for the PSP, PS2, and Wii (probably will take the cake as the most violent game to ever come out on Wii). If you're in to violent stealthy games, I'd pick this one up.』 『Manhunt 2 creates a horrifying new environment that tests your nerve and your skill. An experiment at a secret research facility has gone catastrophically wrong. Daniel is sent to the Dixmor Asylum, where six years later a freakish storm of lightning hits the power. Leaving it dark and haunting. Daniel Lamb and Leo Kasper are the only surviving subjects. They have one chance to take back their lives and they're taking it. Anyone who stands in their way is a dead man.』

(Very Goog) 『The game is very good, the graphics are nice and the way it develops is great.』
(why make a game if you dont want to try and make it decent) 『story was decent graphics are weak, controls are awful, and the game play is almost as bad, paid 50 dollars for the game tried to sell it back the week it came out they only offered 9 dollars so i deceided to keep it, regretting that now, this game is so bad is should be recalled』
(Definitely Could've Been Better) 『This game looked amazing when it first came out, I wanted to buy it as soon as it did. Thankfully I waited a bit and only paid $20, which in my opinion is still a little much for this particular title. The graphics are certainly not as good as they could be. Fine I guess I could deal with that. An accurate way to describe this game is an interactive movie with puzzles. You can't make a wrong move. If you do, you die. Simple. What gets on my nerves are these little mini games that they added so you actually think you're doing something. They are simple puzzles in the sense of figuring out what to do but really frustrating.
The controls are very difficult to get used to as well. Personally I get dizzy when it's required to move him in first person. And the gun use is not accurate at all. As long as you shoot in the zombie's general direction you should be good. But you do need to stop fighting, (and during this time you are getting attacked) take out the gun, switch to first-person, aim, and finally shoot. Not to mention how hard it is to drive the stupid cars with the Wii controls.
The save points are another thing that kill me. It only saves at the most inconvenient moments. Right before the loooong cutscene, or right before a series of jumps you need to make before something falls on your head. And you can't save it on your own time. I don't even know why it has a save option in the menu.
I know this is a rated M game, but the constant swearing annoys me. They are just trying to make this seem like a good game so people would buy it. It's not. Swearing or no swearing, stupid little puzzles or no puzzles, this is just not a good game.』

Enter Edward Carnby, Paranormal Investigator Despite the title,Alone in the Darkis actually the fifth game in a series that dates back to 1992 and centers around the experiences of Edward "the reptile" Carnby. A paranormal investigator by trade, Carnby is looking for answers to the strange events and horrific creatures reported in and around the park, but gets more than he bargained for when all the mysteries and terrors of the park spill out over the course of one apocalyptic night. It's the player's task to avoid the new frightening dangers of the park as you search for the answers to what these supernatural occurrences mean and why they are happening.Gameplay Based on Full Player Immersion Packed full of action and vivid in its realismAlone in the Darkgoes to the extreme to keep players engaged and immersed by plunging them into the heart of the action in real-time at every turn and challenging them to survive using full movement control. The goal here is to allow players to do or at least feel that they can do more or less whatever is possible in real life, within the game.Need to avoid a blast of steam or an eruption of fire that has shot up in your path? You can simply side-step it or you can handle the obstacle with a little more panache by using the environment around you, for example by swinging around it using reachable pipes or wires. In another situation you may be challenged by attacking monsters. No problem. You can take the path of least resistance, again by side-stepping them or placing an obstacle between yourself and them, but if you are feeling like taking out a little aggression you can pick up a board, chair, box, etc. and have at it. Nearly anything that you come across that would be usable in real life is usable in game and can be wielded in several different ways.In addition, game developer Eden Studios has done away with a few in-game conventions in favor of real life upgrades. Instead of old-fashioned health barsAlone in the Darkuses realistic body damage and physiological effects to show players how much damage has been done to Carnby by the new dangerous nightlife of Central Park. Basically this means if Carnby has been taking a licking he's going to be a little bloody. Monsters use sensory perception of all kinds to find their victims, so players need to keep aware of Carnby's physical state, as well as the impact he has on his surroundings. Also gone are traditional inventory systems that take players out of the game while you switch or check items in your possession, replaced by an in-game inventory system where items are carried in the folds of Carnby's trench coat. This allows you to stay in the action the whole time. Sticking with the realism theme, the number of items that Carnby can carry is limited, but since ingenuity is built into the system, items can be combined or their uses altered, mostly with tape, so players can adjust as challenges arise.TV Style Intensity That Keeps You Hooked Built around a unique television style episodic narrative game structure, the storyline ofAlone in the Darkis split into a number of distinct 30-40 minute episodes, doled out one at a time as you play. This new way to progress through the storyline ensures that players can enjoy the game regardless of the amount of time they have available without ever feeling lost. Each time a saved game is launched, the episode will begin with a video summary of the previous episode to quickly re-immerse the player in the story, removing the need to remember where you were or what you were doing at the end of your last play session. In addition, every episode will also close with a nail-biting, cliff-hanger ending to rattle players' nerves. And when you choose to leave the game, a video teaser of the next episode will play to leave players always wanting more.Vivid Photographic Rendering Even on a bad day, and this will be a bad one, Central Park and New York City are something to see. With Game developer Eden's proprietary Twilight technology and rendering engine, players can expect to see everything from the City's famous landmarks to the manifestations of the evil that have been festering in Central Park come to life as if you were there. This lavishly detailed game world takes advantage of highly realistic and advanced cinematographic effects including depth of field, camera focus, numerous light sources, moisture, reflections and High Dynamic Range effects.Whether it's the innovative game play, the unique episodic game structure, the advanced physics or the return of a ground-breaking protagonist recast in the modern era,Alone in the Darkholds something for players willing to take on the mysteries and dangers at the heart of Central Park.』 『Alone in the Dark Wii』
