customer 's review (didnt even work once)
(OK for a joke)
(My Rights Still Are There - Rly.)
(Very funny mug!)
(All of my liberties disappeared...) i was very disappointed when i used this mug for the first time. it didnt do anything and there was already clear overcoat coming off the letters. i hand washed it after that first use, and half of my rights washed away right down the drain. i was really looking forward to using this when a far left goofball was coming to visit, and it never did anything it said it would. if id of known this, i wouldve bought a plain white mug for a couple bucks, rather then waste $15 on this. if anyone knows of one of these types of mugs that work, please let me know where u got it. id like to purchase one. The wording that disappears is affixed to a plastic overlay. I purchased two. One was horribly aligned and the other had bubbles under it. To those who seem to lose their rights shortly after the cups first wash: WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING TO THE POOR COFFEE CUP?! IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE POWER WASHED.
With that finished, let this exciting review begin.
When you pour FRESH coffee into it, and yes, coffee; reason being: coffee is the only drink worthy enough to be in it; the rights on the cup will disappear in accordance with those that disappear due to the Patriot Act. They fade away into a dim yellow, not exactly white but close enough.
I use Dawn Foaming-Action soap on this cup with a typical sponge. I do not see the need for using a power washer like other reviewers, grease remover, wire brush, etc. You just simply wash out the inside, sponge it a bit, then run the sponge carefully over the rights once or twice and then focus the sponge around where you put your mouth on. Simple as that.
If you drink very sticky and obnoxious things that require a different cup or leave things to mold in cups - this cup is not for you because you'd wash the rights off cleaning it. :3 This mug is very funny. It says on the box not to machine wash and I've washed mine (by hand) dozens of times. I chuckle (and shiver with fear a little) everytime I use it! ...and I didn't even wash it in the dishwasher! A few washings in the sink was all it took and I've now got a white mug with some errant letters on it.
A rather expensive wash-out... Watch your civil liberties disappear over a hot beverage. The Bill of Rights is proudly displayed, verbatim, on this mug, until you pour in hot liquid. Then, alas, your constitution erodes. Mug is microwave safe, but not meant for the dishwasher. Not intended for the politically humorless. Rerations < The Disappearing Civil Liberties Mug >

Fat Cat(2006-09-06)
customer 's review (great)
(One "Piece" be with you!)
(Fat Cat dog toys last *forever*)
(Worlds Greatest Dog Toy) These dog toys are some of the best I have found. My Boston Terriers are very hard on toys and other than Kongs these have lasted them longer than most. Granted I have to do a little sewing to repair them but being cut from on piece of cloth they seen to last longer, the largers ones with the legs sewn on do not make it as long. The "Squeak-ah", as it is now affectionately known, is the very best dog toy that we have ever found. Our dog has different toys for tugging and chewing, but pretty much all toys end up as a "de-fluffing" toy. This one is still in one Piece! I throw it through the washing machine and it still has not worn to weakness. I've just ordered 3 more different designs and I will be thrilled if they hold up as well as this one! This is the best dog toy ever! My 2 large dogs have had this toy for well over a year and play with it very roughly on a daily basis. They try desperately but they can't destroy him! The squeaker even still works! About 3 months ago the new puppy managed to get a small tear in the belly fabric with his sharp baby teeth, but the dogs can't get any of the stuffing out. They can't even manage to make the tear any bigger, but oh how they try! Fat Cat dog toys are the real deal... buy them and you won't be disappointed! My Australian Cattle Dog loves her Chipy! In my house, NO squeaky lasts a day inside a toy and most toys don't last a week without a tear. My dog does not chew but she plays tug with all her toys with either my family or other dogs. This Chipmunk (the first one) lasted us a year. The squeaky...maybe 4 months but even after the squeaky is gone it still "crackles". The trick to this, and the rabbit too, is that it is two whole pieces of very heavy canvas sewn together then stuffed down a seam in the belly. What that means is that the legs, arms&tail are NOT separate pieces sewn into the body...soooo they don't rip out, cannot be eaten and then the poor toy gutted! Seriously, Chipy lasted through a year of tugging, light chewing and several washes. This is the only toy I will buy from now on. Doggy Hoots - Chipmunk Crackler this cute little chipmunk dog toy is approximately 10" long head to tail. This toy is loaded with fun besides the crackling each toy also has a squeaker!. The Chipmunk Crackler will definitely deliver a hopping good time to your dog! Rerations < Doggy Hoots Crackler Woodland Chipmunk >

(Good CD!)
(Reviewed by Dianna)
(Proving the Indie Rock Movement can be a Commercial Success)
(A BEST EVER) To put it mildly, this CD is pretty bad. The production however is quite good - the mixing and mastering and sonic qualities are very good. Too bad they had such drivel to work with. This guy is for music what evening TV actors are for acting. Awful. You know when you see someone over-acting so much it is almost laughable? That's what this guy does when he sings. He is so full of his overblown self importance and "I'm so deep and spent so much time calculating how to express my inner emotions" - it is excruciating. And it is phony. Small surprise that his music is sometimes used on TV shows.
I kept thinking it was gonna get better, but it only got worse. Then it got to "I'll Be" which, well, the single studio version was . . . well . . . it was what it was, it wasn't bad so much as overplayed, the kind of song that is harmlessly poignant. But on this CD we get the "live" version and McCain just butchers it with awful overacting with the phony emotion he forces down the listeners ear canals. It would actually be rather comical if he wasn't so serious about it.
Seriously, this CD is like prime time TV, stay away and you'll be the better for it. I give it 2 Stars because of the very good engineering and mastering, the only redeeming qualities of this CD.
Why Edwin McCain never really hit it big, I'll never know!
All his songs are well sung and he has had several big hits!
Good all around cd! This album has held me and sung me to sleep on many lonely nights. My husband is a Navy SEAL, and we have lost a lot of friends in the war. My husband and I both agree that if he dies in combat, his funeral song will be "Prayer to St. Peter". I hope we never have to use it for that purpose. The 1990s music landscape saw Alternative Rock begin to basically become part of the mainstream music fold. However, Alternative Rock also began to produce many other off-shoots. This was because there was a perception that groups such as "Nirvana" and "Gin Blossoms" would "sell out" to commercial culture. As a result, a sub-movement within Alternative Rock began to form called "Indie Rock". The "Indie" stands for independent. It is a style of music that often covers a wide variety of genres, often working on independent record labels, but most importantly the artist maintains complete control of the music and their careers. However as Indie Rock stars gained popularity, even this term began to blur a bit. One artist who rose to popularity in the Indie Rock movement was Edwin McCain. Edwin McCain's second album "Misguided Roses" produced one of the biggest hits of 1997 and 1998 called "I'll Be". While I always felt that this was an overrated song, it did give McCain's career the boost it needed. While McCain's commercial success might have put his "Indie Rock" status in question, his style would still remain true to the "Indie Rock" roots. It would be McCain's third album, "Messenger" that would show his "Indie Rock" roots. Surprisingly, this album didn't garner the critical acclaim that I would have expected.
As mentioned, a key facet to the "Indie Rock" movement is maintaining complete control of the music - in other words, doing things your own way. For the most part, with McCain, this is not an issue. The sound on "Messenger" by McCain is as "Coffee House" as you can get. There is a lot of use of acoustic (even if it is electric acoustic) guitars. McCain supplements this sound very nicely with the use of saxophones and horns. He also makes a stronger use of drums and percussions than most "Coffee House" style artists.
McCain is also one very talented songwriter. As for doing things "his own way", this is very evident on "Messenger". McCain penned 11 of the 12 tracks. One might give him some criticism for using a song ("I Could Not Ask For More") written by a very "commercial songwriter" like Diane Warren, but McCain puts his own spin on that track. After all, part of Indie Rock is doing things your own way - and that is very evident on that track.
McCain's songwriting includes a wide variety of topics. Most notably, McCain's spirituality surfaces in the song "A Prayer to St. Peter". This is an acoustic sounding song that I'm shocked didn't garner more attention on the Christian Contemporary circuit. While McCain does include other spiritual/religious references on "Messenger" (such as "Ghost of Jackson Square", "Sign on the Door", "Beautiful Life", and even on Warren's "I Could Not Ask For More"). I would say it's safe to say that McCain is a Christian influenced musician. McCain also sings on other topics - such as a tribute to his grandmother ("See Off This Mountain"); Alcoholism ("Sign on the Door" and "Go Be Young"); and of course love and romance ("Wish In This World", "Promise of You", I'll Be")
As far as McCain's songwriting goes, it is his use of metaphors that really hits home. While I did feel "I'll Be" was an overrated song, this was a song that did use metaphors very well (i.e. "Emeralds from mountains thrust from the sky", "Rain falls angry on the tin roof"). McCain carries this trademark over to "Messenger". This is seen on several tracks such as: "Wish in this World" ("Running to grass so green; Dangerous road, but it's not going to change"); "Ghost of Jackson Square" ("But fall from the height; my personal ledges; afraid to look down; my crepe paper bridges; enough water to drawn"); "Prayer to St. Peter" ("The taste of summer; and a ripened pear; and girls sweet as meadow wind"); and Sign on the Door ("With a Sign on the Door; Saying sorry we're closed").
Throughout the album, the balance between McCain's haunting vocals and the outstanding work done by his band are really done well. There isn't a bad track on this collection. Perhaps the best example of the balance between the vocals and band work is on "Go Be Young". This song got a lot of airplay and deserved it - it is the best track on the album. "I Could Not Ask for More" also get some attention as well - and also well deserved. There are many other tracks that I'm surprised didn't garner more airplay or attention - such as "Wish In This World", "Beautiful Life", "Prayer to St. Peter", "Ghosts of Jackson Square", and "Do Your Thing". "Sign on the Door" is another standout track that takes on almost a gospel-like feel toward the end of the track.
My only criticism of "Messenger" is the inclusion of the "acoustic" version "I'll Be". I almost feel that this was included to capitalize on the big success of "I'll Be". Ok, it was a popular song and there may be a market to hear a more "acoustic" sound, but I think this would have been better suited for a greatest hits album. I had mentioned that McCain did things his own way "for the most part". Perhaps the record company put some pressure to include this. While you can say this violates the spirit of the Indie Rock movement, you can also say that perhaps McCain wanted to include this - and did things his own way.
The liner notes contain all of the lyrics to all of the songs as well as the musician and production credits. While "Messenger" would be a commercial success, that would be the last album that McCain would have commercial success. McCain would return to his Indie roots of touring and word of mouth music. But "Messenger" proved that Indie Music can be good even it does sell well. Highly recommended. This is simply one of my top 20 favorite CD's of all-time. I'm 40 years old, and have heard a lot of 'albums' and trust me, this one is right in there. If you like Edwin at all, you will love this album. Edwin McCain struck gold with his 1997 release,Misguided Roses, which sold half a million copies and spawned theDawson's Creek-driven hit single "I'll Be," so he's probably earned the right to think big. That's what he does onMessenger, attacking his new set of songs with fleshed-out arrangements, several of which involve string sections and horns. Fans of McCain's more stripped-down fare will be disappointed by his rather bold-faced move toward the middle of the road, the most egregious example being the Diane Warren-penned ballad "I Could Not Ask for More," which is typically syrupy and overwrought. McCain's acoustic-driven "Ghosts of Jackson Square" is more on target, as is the soulful "Wish on the World" and the bouncy "Beautiful Life." Fans of "I'll Be" will enjoy hearing it again here, this time in a hushed vocals-guitar-sax version that's even more direct and affecting than the original.--Daniel Durchholz Rerations < Messenger [ENHANCED CD] >

(Misguided Roses - Edwin McCain)
(Amazing Album)
(Beautiful lyrics and great music)
(Edwin McCain = Amazing Music) this is a great album by Edwin McCain the price was good music was even better thanks to Amazon for being there for us keep up the good work I'm one of those audiophiles that purchase an album for one song when I want it. In this case it was Edwin McCain's "I'll Be". The CD does not disappoint, and the song is a wonderful medley about love and relationships as well as commitment. I'll explore more of Edwin's work on this album as time goes by, but I recommend it for anyone that wants to expand their music library. Misguided Roses is without a doubt the best of Edwin McCain's albums and one of the absolute best albums in my collection. Every song on the CD tells a story that never fails to reach out and touch the listener. Like many others, I discovered Edwin through the hit song "I'll Be" (included on the album) and became a fan because of the quality of his lyrics and music. I've listened to every album Edwin McCain has put out and have yet to find one that I didn't like, but this one stands out head and shoulders above the rest. The lyrics of this album have an amazing thought provoking quality to them that really shows off his talent and makes you marvel at what a well written phrase can do. It went a long way toward teaching me how much depth good writing really has and how much possibility there is in the written word.
Oh, by the way, don't miss the hidden track at the end of The Holy City. It's amazing and, coupled with The Holy City, is worth the price of the album. Edwin McCain is a great songwriter, and he has the voice and the band to back it up.
One of my favorite lines from any of his songs is from "I'll Be":
"The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful stop me and steal my breath. Like emeralds from mountains, thrust towards the sky, never revealing their depths."
Edwin McCain is a very underappreciated artist. I don't understand why he isn't more popular. Maybe he is too hard to pigeonhole. He's not just folk. He's not just blues. He's not just soul. He's not just rock. He's not just pop. He's all of these things in a perfect blend. Whatever you want to call him, he's worth a listen if you like mature music with a cohesive range of styles and moods.
If you like this album, I would also highly recommend his album "Honor Among Thieves". If it has the name Edwin McCain on it, trust me its a great product to buy. The songs he writes are heart felt and true to every drop of ink used to write them with.. Edwin McCain landed a major-label contract on the strength of his sets opening shows for his old South Carolina buddies, Hootie and the Blowfish. McCain's major-label debut, 1995'sHonor Among Thieves, featured a duet with Hootie's Darius Rucker, and closely resembled the Blowfish formula of earnest soul vocals over acoustic-led folk-rock. On the followup,Misguided Roses, McCain tries to put some distance between himself and his famous mentors by adopting a fuller, more amplified pop-rock sound. It's an approach that shows off McCain's handsome tenor and his knack for writing catchy choruses, even if it does nothing for his melodramatic lyrics.Recorded in Nashville with session vets Matt Rollings and Kenny Greenberg producing,Misguided Rosesgains its full textures from the tightly packed layers of guitars and keyboards. If these mid-'70s, Southern-California arrangements remind one of the second-generation Doobie Brothers, you won't be surprised to find Michael McDonald matching his grainy, blue-eyed soul voice with McCain's on two numbers. And when McCain comes up with a Top-40-radio hook as effective as those on "I'll Be," "Darwin's Children," and "Holy City," you might find yourself wishing you didn't understand English so you could enjoy the music without hearing lines as stilted as "Emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky."--Geoffrey Himes Rerations < Misguided Roses >

(Good album, faulty manufacturing)
(A cinderella story it's so good)
(Dissapointed)
(Awesome!) What song is playing in the last scene of the movie, with the rain? It's when Chad Michael Murray quits the football game and runs up to where Hillary Duff is. In my opinion, this is a great album. All of the songs are good if you like music (that is, if you don't pigeonhole yourself into listening to specific genres only, and you're open to all types of music).
There is one big problem with this disc, however. Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" skips at 1:15 into the track. It repeats the last couple of seconds instead of what should be there (so technically, it doesn't skip, but there was a problem in the manufacturing process). At first I thought my encoder messed up, but a second encoding had the same result. I looked at the disc, and it looks perfect, no marks or scratches or anything. I checked it in my stereo, and sure enough, the track skips at 1:15.
This product was brilliant; all of the songs fit together perfectly. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that 'hear you me' by 'jimmy' was not on it; the song 'friend' is such a sweet song though it makes up for this. I was thoroughly dissapointed when I picked up this soundtrack. There are different versions on this CD than that which are performed in the movie. 'Best Day Of My Life' is not performed by Jesse McCartney, and I really think that the version that is better is the one that plays in the movie, yet it's not a track. And 'Now You Know' is listed as by Hilary Duff, but also in the movie is not performed by Hilary Duff. Once again, the better version was in the movie, and I think it was a mistake to include these versions of the tracks. I really love the music on this soundtrack, surprisingly, I just wish it had the versions that were actually in the movie. I really love the songs on this CD, especially 2,3,10 and 12. Those are just my favorites.
Love the movie, and most of the music off of it, so knew I'd love the CD.
Fabulous! "A Cinderella Story" collects some of the biggest performers in pop, but the highlights are certainly the four new Hilary Duff tracks (a cover of the Go Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed," "Crash World," "The Girl Can Rock" and "Now You Know." (The disc also includes "Anywhere But Here," a track from Duff's triple-platinum bow, "Metamorphosis.")Other performances on "A Cinderella Story" include two songs from Radio Disney star Jesse McCartney (star of the WB's "Summerland"), and tracks from Goo Goo Dolls ("Sympathy"), Jimmy Eat World ("Hear You Me") and MxPx ("First Day of the Rest of Our Lives"). (Braveheart Meets Aliens)
(Outlander, a solid movie)
(Very fun film)
(Not the Usual "CGI Monster of the Week") I was pleasantly surprised by this film, which I rented, but plan to buy. They didn't fall for the old plot of young, up and coming chief, is jealous of newcomer and plots to get the better of him. It was much more realistic as a worthy competitor finds an equal and befriends him to vanquish the enemy, not getting soppy with romance, just the hunt. Very Beowulf meets Alien. I particularly enjoyed the end monolog and wish they had used the alternate beginning. Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/RQ6DKCE85LQWW This movie should have been much bigger in the box office. It was a cool mix between Riddic and Pathfinder. If you are the type of person that enjoys action/scifi movies, then this Outlander shouldn't disappoint. Outlander is a very fun film. There is a but much in gore, but not as bad as many other movies. What was good was the plot, the character development, and he cinematography. It has great and realistic sets, and the mountain scenes are great.
An action, adventure, scifi movie well worth watching. Outlander is a surprisingly good straight-to-video sci-fi action movie. Decent visual effects and alot of good actors coupled with a good story make this movie a winner.
James Caviezel stars as an intergalactic policeman that crash lands on Earth in 700 A.D. Unfortunately for him and the Norsemen he encounters, there was a murderous alien monster stowaway on board.
If you are thinking "take-off of Beowulf", then you are close. This film sounds like a hokey idea but it works. (Its also good to see Caviezel in a film where he is not screaming all the time.) The first twenty minutes were very cool and had me hooked. And I liked the underlying ecological theme, nice touch. I just wish the Sci-Fi channel could make "CGI Monster of the Week" movies this good.
At the very least, rent Outlander. This is better than most theatrically released sci-fi films. Studio: Genius Products Inc Release Date: 05/19/2009 Outlanderis an outrageous, genre-bending, comic book movie starring Jim Caviezel as Kainan, an extraterrestrial who crashes on Earth amidst Vikings during the Iron Age. Mistaken for a member of an enemy tribe, Kainan is captured by a king, Rothgar (John Hurt), and the man next in line to be king, Wulfric (Jack Huston). But they soon realize that Kainan is a brave warrior and make him an honorary member of their people, little realizing Kainan has accidentally brought with him, from across the stars, a monster that is decimating the local Viking population. If that story sounds complex enough, co-director and co-writer Howard McCain (working with Dirk Blackman) offer another twist that makes it impossible not to sympathize with Kainan's monster. Pulled in different directions, a viewer can't find a way into this overly complicated tale. By the time an over-the-top climax hits the screen, it's easy to get bored. Still, there are some admirable elements, especially a cast including Sophia Myles as a spunky princess and Ron Perlman as a rival Viking king one wouldn't want to mess with.--Tom Keogh Rerations < Outlander >

(Footloose and Free!)
(Great flick, ok transfer) This movie is awesome... Coming from one of the best decades ever, having an incredible soundtrack, great acting, and a unique story line- this movie is one of the best ever&will continue to be watched by every age group for years to come.
The movie brings back so many memories for me... I still get just as excited watching it now, as I did back in the day!
Lori Singer and Kevin Bacon were perfect for the roles and what about Chris Penn's performance??? he did a superb job...
This movie never get's old and is just plain AWESOME!!!
I hope they put it on bluray disc...
Thanks for reading my review...
I saw this in the movies when it first came out, but I was amazed how many of the songs in the show are now 'standards'. We recently saw the road show in Ft. Lauderdale and it inspired us to buy the DVD. (The movie's better!!) product received was as advertised, and in great condition. Would buy from this vendor again. I cannot believe it has been 25 years ago that we watched this movie in the theatres! Wow! It caused an uproar then with our friends but today seems somewhat calm and shows that kids really need a little freedom of expression to do what comes naturally. Of course, all within reason and respect. Still a great movie to watch with your grandkids and talk about what things were like "back in the old days!" Footloose is a bit of a classic, and still fun to watch. Great 80's dance tunes that take me back to my high school years. It's great to see the film in its original aspect, but there are a few scenes/shots, especially towards the beginning, where there is some noticeable artifacting or lack of resolution in the video. Not terrible, but enough to warrant the four-star rating instead of five. Still a good buy. (This review pertains to the Special Collector's Edition DVD). Footloose jumps with spirit, dazzling dance numbers and an electrifying musical score. It portrays the timeless struggle between innocent pleasure and rigid morality, when city-boy Ren McCormick (Kevin Bacon) finds himself in an uptight Midwestern town where dancing has been banned. Ren revolts with best friend Willard (Chris Penn) and the minister's daughter (Lori Singer). A treasury of Top 10 songs-Kenny Loggins "Footloose," Shalamar "Dancing In The Sheets," Deniece Williams "Let's Hear It For The Boy," Bonnie Tyler "Holding Out for A Hero," and the Footloose love theme, "Almost Paradise Director Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) pulled a winning movie out of this almost self-consciously archetypal tale of teenage rock rebellion. Kevin Bacon stars as a hip city kid who ends up in a Bible-belt town after his parents divorce. An ill fit for a conservative community where rock is frowned upon and dancing is forbidden, Bacon's character rallies the kids and takes on the establishment. Between a good cast really embracing the drama of Dean Pitchford's screenplay, and Ross's imaginative, highly charged way of shooting the dance numbers, you can get lost in this all-ages confection, and you won't even mind Kenny Loggins's bubbly pop. Bonuses include one of John Lithgow's best performances (a bit reminiscent of Jimmy Stewart), and Christopher Penn (who sure doesn't look the same anymore) as a good-natured hick who learns to boogie.--Tom Keogh Rerations < Footloose (Special Collector's Edition) >

(This editions review (not of the movie, of the extras))
(Great Scott!)
(let's hope there's more to come!!)
(Just one extra disc and poor widescreen) I have Back To the Future Dvd(double disc,2nd disc with special features) I should have brought the trilogy but I got the special edition, However, I can't Complain, The Movie is awesome, I grew up to this movie as a child of the eighties, and is one of the best movies of the Era. On this release of the great BTTF movie, you get a 2 disc edition with extra features never released on DVD, nor even on the 4 disc region 4 release.
Obviously the movie is there, it was always good quality and great 5.1 sound on the rest of the editions, and nothing has changed for this one. Now included is a whole heap of new extras.
There is an Audio Commentary from Bob Gale and Niel Canton. It is an actual commentary now, not just the Q&A audio that played to the movie, or separately as audio depending on which edition you had, that other one is still on here, but this 2nd commentary is brand new, not a re-run.
As far as I can tell, all the extras from the other editions are still here. I own a heap of copies of different releases for this movie, and I get a little confused with what was on what; but I know the American fans will be pleased that extra deleted scenes that where only viewable on the region 4 bonus disc (4th disc) are now included in this release. In particular, the full version of the scene when Doc is asked if he has a permit, and Marty wonders if he will go home gay. It's a great and funny scene.
Also included is the footage of the back to the future ride that used to be at Universal Studios. I went on that ride in 1993, and it was great to see it again. It has two videos for the ride, the first one is the video you would watch while waiting in line for the ride. It's like a news cast and security camera video telling you about Doc's 1 day ride into the future (fictional) and the second video is what you actually saw when on the ride as you chase Biff Tannin through time. Just take not that the ride itself, you sat in a 6 seat Delorean and it moved and rocked around, so it may lose some translation while your sitting on your butt.
If your not particularly interested in bonus features at all, and just watch the thing for the movie, then there is no reason to pick this version up. If you are like me, and love anything you can find of BTTF, you will enjoy this one. It's not just another cash-in release, it does actually have brand new features to enjoy. In 1985, Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) asks Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a high school teenager, to meet him at the local mall for a late night science experiment. When Marty shows up, he sees Doc backing a Delorean out from a van. But this just isn't any Delorean. This Delorean has been modified into a time machine. As Doc begins to explain how it all works, a group of terrorists that Doc stole some uranium from, show up and begin to wreak havoc. Marty jumps in the car and floors it after witnessing Doc getting shot. But as soon as Marty hits the magic number of 88mph, he is shot back in time to 1955. While trying to figure out how to get back to 1985, he screws up the first time his parents meet, which begins the slow cycle of his brother, his sister, and even himself to slowly fade away from existence. Marty must figure out a way to get the time machine to work again and also somehow get his popular mom to fall in love with is geeky father so he can get back to the future.
Talk about a movie that just never gets old. Almost all the laughs are still funny. From the barn scene, to the first time Marty meets his mom as a teenager, to the skateboarding/poop scene. Back to the Future really is just a very fun movie. I think I was smiling almost through the whole thing and I've had to have seen this movie over 20 times by now. I think almost everyone has wished they could go back in time, but who really thinks about going back to hang with their parents. After seeing this movie, it might really be fun to do just that. We know Marty's mom preaches about how girls shouldn't chase guys and things, but when we see her at a younger age, she is doing exactly what she forbids her own children from doing. And when he comes across his dad, he finds out things that he never knew his dad was interested in. And then of course we have Doc Brown, who Christopher Lloyd played perfectly. His antics, and screams, facial expressions, and over the topness were done just right. What a great character. And Michael J. Fox also plays Marty McFly just right to. To think that Eric Stoltz almost played Marty McFly. Thankfully the director thought he just didn't fit the part and refilmed it with Fox.
Honestly, I could go on and on and on about this movie and just tell the whole story. But what fun would that be. Just own this movie.
P.S. - I love watching old 80's flicks and seeing all the stuff that was cool back then. Also I really like seeing old advertisements or signs. Like the Pepsi symbol back then. Classic stuff.
I've always been a "sucker" for packaging; with most things, it's kind of illogical, like groceries, that you (ideally) shouldn't even be looking at more than 6 (brief) times a day...but with entertainment items, I, for one, who values entertainment highly, think the packaging is important, b/c, face it: you're not gonna spend the majority of the time in which you own the item(s) actually USING them/it are you? Heck no! So that's where the pkging comes in handy, if you have your music/movies/books/whatever displayed prominently like I do and can/do look at them once in a while or more often... Sad to say though that sometime around 1997 or so, it seems, the packaging for movies has become EXTREMELY lame; I mean, for cryin' out loud, you can barely tell one movie apart from the next! You have to actually read the synopsis for each and every film that comes out in order to have ANY interest in it. But why would I, or anyone, read a synopsis for a movie that I'm not already interested in? Well, anyway; BTTF spent the longest time not available to purchase on its own, which to me was a drawback for buying ANY of the Back To The Future movies. I liked the imagery in BTTFpt1, the mall parking lot setting especially, and the 2nd one I actually haven't seen in ages, but the 3rd one, if I understand correctly, took place in the desert mostly, which is the most boring setting I can think of. I actually emailed Universal about 5 years ago, asking them when/if they re-release Halloween II and/or An American Tail to restore the original cover-art. Well, they apparently haven't even re-issued those two movies, but I guess we're finally starting to see eye to eye...well, I sorta doubt it, but I can dream can't I? I'm not very happy at this item.
First off, they say its wide screen. Well, instead of seeing what was cut off along the sides, they blew the original picture up so that it now cuts off what's on the top and bottoms.
There's no extra stuff on Disc 1, not even the Cigarette Commercial, and disc 2 is okay, but still this wasn't what I expected. Dr. Emmett Brown: Then tell me, "future boy," who is president in the United States in 1985? Marty McFly: Ronald Reagan. Dr. Brown: Ronald Reagan? The actor?! Who's vice president? Jerry Lewis?Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis topped his breakaway hitRomancing the Stonewith this joyous comedy with a dazzling hook: what would it be like to meet your parents in their youth? Billed as a special-effects comedy, the imaginative film (the top box-office smash of 1985) has staying power because of the heart behind Zemeckis and Bob Gale's script. High schooler Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox, during the height of his TV success) is catapulted back to the '50s where he sees his parents in their teens, and accidentally changes the history of how Mom and Dad met. Filled with the humorous ideology of the '50s, filtered through the knowledge of the '80s (actor Ronald Reagan is president, ha!), the film comes off as aTwilight Zoneepisode written by Preston Sturges. Filled with memorable effects and two wonderfully off-key, perfectly cast performances: Christopher Lloyd as the crazy scientist who builds the time machine (a DeLorean luxury car) and Crispin Glover as Marty's geeky dad. Followed by two sequels.--Doug Thomas Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 02/10/2009 Run time: 116 minutes Rating: Pg Rerations < Back to the Future >

customer 's review (K-Cup Review -- Coffee People McCain Blend)
(donut shop coffee??)
(If you like your coffee white&bitter)
(Don't believe everything you read)
(Oh so good!) Coffee People's Donut Shop Coffee doubles and McCain Blend -- tastey, smooth, really good! Love it. The product description says this is coffee people brand donut shop variety coffee. Given that it was a nice price, I stocked up. Much to my disappointment, the coffee didn't live up to the same caliber as the DONUT SHOP, one of our favorites. I emailed the coffee people co. and they insist it is DONUT SHOP- the three of us who purchased this all agree it couldn't possibly be the same coffee. It was a huge disappointment. although admittedly rich, it wasn't bold enough and was far too bitter to get my vote. On the basis of the reviews here which claimed the Obama&McCain blends were re-branded Coffee People Donut Shop (which I love),I bought a bunch of McCains blend. The fact that it was a bargain price made it even more appealing. As the old saw goes, don't believe everything you hear/read. I've tried several cups of the McCains then compared it to the Donut Shop x-bold and its NOT the same. The McCains isn't bad, its just not the great cuppa Joe I get with the branded Donut Shop X-Bold. I thought (perhaps) the McCains was Donut Shop without the extra 25% coffee grounds in the K-cup they add to make an x-tra bold brew, so I tried reducing the size cup. That didn't work. Perhaps the McCains is outdated ? (btw, that's not political commentary........the election is over!!) Don't be disappointed, pay the few dollars extra for the real deal.
I bought three boxes of the Obama blend. Wow....I was pleasantly surprised, I must say. I was so blown away by how good it tastes that I've ordered three of the McCain (since Obama's is sold out and reviews say they are the same). I guess when I run out I'll be ordering Coffee People's Donut Shop if McCain's are all gone. I hope I can get that on auto-ship! Rerations < Coffee People K-Cup McCain Blend, 24-Count Box >

(great product)
(Would Rather Have A Captain America Shield) Can't say much about how much fun he is. It's a collectible! You keep it in the box and put it on a shelf! He seems rather well made but we'll see how he holds up over time setting there in his box. It is a great likeness. No matter what I love a black man with power!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes we did!!!!!!!!!! I gave this only three stars because I erroneously believed it would come with its own teleprompter. This doll is very Obama life-like; you actually believe you're standing next to the real fake thing!!! I gave mine to my new puppy dog to use as a chew toy. He loves it! He has lots of drive and ambition and this thing is really taxing, so it's the perfect toy to inhibit those traits in him. Great addition to an obama collection. I love the quality of the merchandise. I keep it in the box and placed it next to my other obama action figures. I would definitely purchase it again. I have to give it props for design, but the detail is just horrible.I saw Obama's inaguration at school. I would rather have a model of Captain America's shield than this toy. I might get it just to throw into the collection but I don't know. Just give me time to think. Like countless others out there, we've been inspired by the meteoric rise of Barack Obama and his campaign. In a time when America so desperately needed a hero, along came a man to show us a brand new vision of what America and the world could be in the 21st century. In many ways, Obama is the closest thing we've ever seen to a superhero... someone who has literally inspired millions of people simultaneously to step past fear, to be brave enough to hope and to go past cynicism and imagine what we could be if we were at our best. That's the stuff of legend! And Jailbreak Toys wanted to pitch in. So in that spirit, they created the Obama Action Figure, because every superhero should have one. 6 inches tall, 8 points of articulation, window boxed and made from phthalate-free PVC. An action figure you can believe in! Rerations < Barack Obama 6" Action Figure >

(Durable, and fun for awhile - but looks nothing like him.)
(A good likeness)
(More Buzz-y than John-y) I purchased the Barack Obama doll for my 4 year old as a Christmas gift. This John McCain doll was included for free as part of a promotion. It doesn't really bear much resemblance to the guy. I'm sure he will just end up married to one of my little girls Barbie dolls. :o) This doll doesn't look much like John McCain, and the fact that his arms can swing 360 degrees further solidifies this action figure as a poor replica. That being said, it proved to great bring joy and fun to my and my friends when we video taped ourselves microwaving this John McCain doll facing off against Barack Obama in my hit internet show, "Is It A Good Idea To Microwave This?" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3MA4mwnlhh4 - the McCain doll holds up surprisingly well. Eventually, someone bought the "remains" form me for over $45 (another $45 for the Obama too) - and coupled with the money made through YouTube advertisements... this stupid doll turned out to be a good investment for me.
But really - I'm a pretty special case - I wouldn't recommend this doll unless you're a big political fan-boy or something. I think this toy closely resembles John McCain. But I was surprised by what seemed to be tire marks, almost as if someone had thrown him under a bus. Awful likeness, closer to Buzz Aldrin than John McCain.
If you are collecting political toys from the 2008 election year, try the John K. Limited Edition Set of 3 Political Toys, sold here at Amazon. From the folks who brought you the Barack Obama 6" figure comes the presumptive Republican Party nominee, Senator John McCain. Now you can host your own debates with the 6" Barack Obama Figure (sold separately), stand tall for campaign finance reform or just work side-by-side to fix Washington with the senior Senator from Arizona. (Cosmos 7 DVD set is great, either new or used (from AMAZON)!)
(Excellent!!!)
(Perfect!)
(Cosmos) I read it when I was young, now this is for my 9 year old who is just now getting into science. This is the first DVD I thought of. I think an excellent choice. It's nice to find great deals like Carl Sagan's entire series in the boxed set, even though they digitally enhanced a couple of minor things from the original, it's still very much all in order and educationally entertaining! The technical quality is rather lacking, though it has the Sagan touch which makes this program a rose. We've seen this a dozen times and even my kids like it. Probably in another 20 years this program will still get rated. My kids and i highly recommend this! What can I say. Carl just has a way still of connecting with people. I admired him as a kid and still do. Loved this DVD production!!! Cosmos: Carl Sagan (7 DVD Set)
This is a beautiful DVD set. It is informative and educational for all ages. While time has shown that his predictions were accurate; he still added updates at the end of some of the episodes. I recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about science, astrology or the environment. WhenCosmoswas first broadcast in 1980, our world--and the context of Carl Sagan's eloquent "personal journey"--was a different place. The late Dr. Sagan would be pleased to witness the cooling of the cold war, the continued exploration of space, and ongoing efforts to curb our destructive dependence on fossil fuels. For Sagan's series is far more than a guided tour through "billions and billions" of stars and galaxies. It remains a profound plea for the unity of humankind, for the recognition that "we are a way for the universe to know itself," with an obligation to know our origin, our place in the universe, and our future potential. In the course of 13 fascinating hours,Cosmosspans its own galaxy of topics to serve Sagan's theme, each segment deepening our understanding of how we got from there (simple microbes in the primordial mud) to here (space-faring civilization in the 21st century). In his "ship of the imagination," Sagan guides us to the farthest reaches of space and takes us back into the history of scientific inquiry, from the ancient library of Alexandria to the NASA probes of our neighboring planets. Upon this vast canvas Sagan presents the "cosmic calendar," placing the 15-billion-year history of the universe into an accessible one-year framework, then filling it with a stunning chronology of events, both interstellar and earthbound. From the lives of the stars, to creation theories, functions of the human brain, and the ongoing search for extraterrestrial intelligence,Cosmosasks big questions. When appropriate, Sagan offers big answers, or asks still bigger--and yes, even spiritual--questions at the boundaries of science and religion. What's most remarkable aboutCosmosis that it remains almost entirely fresh, with few updates needed to the science that Sagan so passionately celebrates. It is no exaggeration to say thatCosmos--for all the debate it may continue to provoke--is a vital document for humanity at a pivotal crossroads of our history.--Jeff Shannon Rerations < Cosmos Boxed Set (Collector's Edition) [VHS] >

customer 's review (Back to The Future)
Followed by two sequels.--Doug Thomas Rerations < Back to the Future [VHS] >

customer 's review (What A Magnificent Journey! What A Powerful Message!)
(One of my faves)
(Great movie)
(this is a favorite of mine...)
(Warm and Heart Rendering) Movie making doesn't get any better than "Two Of A Kind!" This is one of the most deeply moving films I have ever had the the privilege to watch! The chemistry between Robby Benson and George Burns is magnificent! The acting is so phenomenal, I'm going to locate any film Robby Benson has ever made! I miss George Burns, and I have never seen him in a drama before! At first, I almost didn't recognize him! He was that good!
This is a story about two men on the fringes of American society: an elderly man in a nursing home who is suffering from a deep depression and at the same time, being over medicated; and his mildly retarded grandson, who also happens to be very clever and tough! He cuts through all the B.S. and gets the job done! He is truly a man!
"Two Of A Kind" will remind anyone who has forgotten, in a concrete way, what the power of love and a strong will can accomplish! Lets hope Hollywood starts making more films like this one! And isn't it about time "Two of A Kind" is released on DVD? I think it's very important more people see this subversive film! This movie is something that brings me back to my childhood. I remember watching it for the first time at my grandparents house when it was first released. I would watch it everytime I went over there and loved it. Then it got taped over and it was 18 years later that I decided I needed to find it. I bought it through Amazon and watched it and loved it again. It's such a cute and touching movie. I would recommend this to everyone. The story is wonderful, as is the acting. Uplifting and wholesome. It will warm everyone in your home. This movie is fantastic. George Burns plays the part of lonely old man waiting to die, until his grandson, a 21 y/o who is mentally handicapped, teaches him that he has something to live for. Nollie (the boy) is torn apart by his parents: his father thinks he should grow up and be a man, and his mother wants him to stay a boy forever. When Nollie's mother decides to leave her husband and move away, Nollie steals her car and takes out his grandfather. It's wonderful, trust me. I found this tale of coming of age for a mentally challenged boy and his grandfather absoultely captivating. George Burns and Robbie Benson were great! An absolute must see for anyone who has a special needs child. A grandfather and grandson forge a one-of-a-kind bond with laughter, love and a little golf.

customer 's review (Amazing product)
(A lot of fun) This really works. Polygraph machine are typically 90% accurate the catch is the test has to be done by a very experienced polygraph examiner or the results will vary. There is an art to it.
Swamiware was obviously aware of this and used this knowledge to incorporate incredible artificial intelligence to simulate a first class examiner. So your results are dead on.
How it works. You Enter a name of the thing to investigate, enter some info about the person you are going to test, and then enter in the yes/no questions you want to ask. The program makes suggestions for questions also.
You attach the finger clip sensor (pulse), skin wraps to detect sweat, and the chest strap to your human who is being tested. It all goes into a small box that is plugged into your PC's USB port.
You follow the onscreen instructions. The test begins and the program tells you what to say and ask. It throws in control and irrelevant questions automatically when the program feels it needs to. It analyzes the test subject's answers after they respond over 5-20 seconds.
The program throws in other questions if it needs to. While the test continues you are asked to press a button if you see rapid eye movement or other guilty body language from the test subject. Your basically letting the computer know about this and it uses the data.
The software knows what the answers should be (dont ask me how) and then renders a verdict on each question saying whether it was truthful or lying response.
I've used it about 5 times and it's been amazingly accurate. It's a great product. Also you choose a Pres. Candidate to be your assistant.
This is serious fun and very inexpensive for what you get. This is a real lie detector. It's got all the gizmos... you plug it into the computer... and hook up your victim. :)
I tested it on some friends last night and we had a blast! (...found out some interesting facts too ;) Want to get the truth? With the USB Polygraph Presidential Edition you get a real polygraph machine! Use this lie detector to determine the truth. Great for parties, truth or dare, and more! Find out who took your pastrami sandwich from the company fridge. No training, no learning curve. Just plug it into your USB port, strap the sensors to your test subject, and run the easy and fun software. Enter your questions and the computer will analyze the responses and will report to you the truth. The real polygraph (lie detector) machine for your home! Features all our greatest politicians.

customer 's review (Not Quality.)
(mccain mask)
(Halloween)
(At half a pound and mighty realistic the kids will run screaming)
(cheaper elsewhere) This mask came on time as promise however, it was nothing like the quality of the pictures. The skin was EXTREMELY too tan and the hair was blonde not gray/white. I couldn't even use it as planned because it looked nothing like McCain unless he hit the tanning booth and dyed his hair. Waste of money. I bought this for my son to wear for halloween at his high school. He said it was great! My girls dressed up as McCain and Palin for halloween. He was very real looking. They had people that would not give them candy because of the costume and some people gave them double because of the costume built well looks good will last and last thanks. Catches that disturbing tight grin and psycho stare very well.
Put on a Fedora and an aluminum foil glove, and people will think you're being Freddy.
No, but really folks, this mask is way too risky to wear out on Hallowe'en night. Might get tricked. Badly. By John.
Very high quality construction at a very high price. Wait a few months until things settle down. Or at least the cost. Who knows, might be worth a whole tank of gas if he and Palin win.
Just don't kiss any babies with it. What's that on the cover of My Dad, John McCain, some kind of vampire love going on? This is a neat mask, great for a costume party, but it is only $10.00 at Walmart! Be politically correct on Halloween. Slip on John McCain and put your own spin on politics. McCain mask is available in Adult Size, One Size Fits Most. Material is PVC. Rerations < McCain Mask Adult >

(Excellent Reference)
(Very good book for VMware ESX)
(very useful)
(A great book for esxi) About a year ago, I read this book and used it for interactive training at my previous job and I thought it was pretty good then. This week, I took the VI3 VCP Fast Track and realized that a good deal of material is already covered in Mastering VMware Infrastructure 3 so it helped me focus more on the DSA portion of the class. I recommend this book for anyone who may be taking the FastTrack in the future. For anyone needing to learn more about ESX server and VI3, this is the book for you. It's easy to read yet chock full of detailed information to get your VMWare Infrastructure up and running correctly the first time. This is a very good for VMware Inf, i use to deploy my infrastructure with VMware ESXi 3.5 U4. Very useful. We`re in the middle of designing and implementing our vm environment so there were some things we were unsure of. This book answered every question we had. Very easy to follow. Gives GUI and cli versions of how to configure your vm. Highly recommend as a reference. It`s better than the vmware class material. I entered the world of virtualization after my company was purchased. We had only played with the desktop versions of vmware; never the hypervisor. The new company had an established setup.
I had read documentation from Vmware. It does a decent job but I felt I could use something more.
The strength in this book is the author's ability to explain things. Topics I thought I understood became clearing after reading the chapters about them. In my case it was the virtual switch and the physical migration to virtual process. I had made a couple assumptions which I was wrong.
I was happy to see the section on setting up esxi installs via kickstart. It was an idea I was toying with and now I have a good example to review.
Some areas might be a little redundant especially if you read the documentation. Installation for example. However, it does serve as a good review.
One good aspect is the author ends each chapter with "master it" points. Useful especially if you are going after certification.
Another good thing about this book are the screen shots with steps on using functions and utilities of exsi.
There is an emphasis on VirtualCenter and the addon tools you can purchase from vmware. Rather expensive especially when you consider the costs of SQL, etc. However, if you have questions about virtualcenter and want to evaluate it's use, this book will give you a good idea.
Overall, this was a worthwhile purchase and I will probably go back to it in the future.

(Interesting) This is a great book, Buck Compton goes in depth to describe the in and outs of Easy Company and also debunking myths from the series and the book. Also tells about his life as a college baseball player and after the war being a detective, district attorney and appeals judge. Definitely a good read if you are into Band of Brothers or like reading about personal stories from world war 2. A poorly written account from a self-absorbed man. If you must read this book wait until you see it at a garage sale for fifty cents, I'm sure that will be next weekend. Unfortunately, I paid full hardcover price for this meandering rag.
Buy David Kenyon Webster's book if you want a good read.
As for the poor man's Rush Limbaugh moniker mentioned in previous posts, as an example in this rag Mr. Compton, in typical Conservative fashion, rails on protesters as wrong thinking people, but, on the other hand believes the Revolutionary War was right. Hmm, perhaps he should have spent a bit more time at the books at UCLA, then he would know that protests and rebellion started the Revolutionary War. Perhaps Mr. Compton is still searching for that perfect war, yeech! If so, then the government should consider dropping his book over enemy lines, then we can sneak in and get them while they're fast asleep. I found this book disappointing. The cover shows Buck Compton in his uniform, so I am expecting most of the book to be about his war service. As other reviews have said, there is very little in this book about Buck's war experience. I got the feeling this book was a chance for Buck to complain about the way he was portrayed in the HBO series, "Band of Brothers". He picks certain parts of the series and points out some inconsistencies, but why? Movies are never 100% true to life. He was relieved from the line and sent to the hospital. The series shows him in emotional distress but Buck says he was fine. His commanding officer obviously thought something was wrong. Buck's comments on his fellow officers can't be refuted because most of them are gone. He can't say anything bad about Dick Winters because Dick is shown in the series as a good guy and is popular today. I finally stopped reading when Buck starts complaining about Unions and the ACLU.
I enjoyed reading about Buck growing up. He certainly had some hard times. He served in some very important positions in California and has done some wonderful civil service. I just got the feeling reading this book that Buck was airing his gripes and not providing a substantive subject matter. This guy is amazing. While many of us just sit and let the world be go by one day at a time, allowing the TV to raise our kids and tell us what to think, This guy, Buck, lived about 10 lifetimes. He is still alive, but fading fast from cancer. Wonderful person, wonderful human being.
Gary Jones I bought this book for my Dad and he said it was very good. There were a lot of things that he had never heard before and he's a big WWII buff. FOREWARD BY SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN: The Band of Brothers story rightly took America by storm. In telling of that remarkable generation of men who risked everything everything to defeat the evils of fascism, the tale of Easy Companys bravery and valor has inspired its own, new generation of Americans.
As rightly it should. America has relied throughout its history on the courage and honor of extraordinary citizens who, though they may come from the most ordinary of situations, stand up when duty calls them to act. TheBand of Brothers, that company of citizen- soldiers who helped our country wage and win World War II, represented that timeless virtue, the unselfish determination to serve a cause greater than our self-interest. In choosing this course, no matter its cost, an entire generation of men and womenhelped save the world from the evils of Nazism. We today, and all who follow, are in their debt.
Men and women, no matter how meager their origins or difficult their circumstances, possess within them the potential to alter the course of history. Buck Compton knew this, and this understanding shaped his life and destiny. He knew that there is no greatness without courage, no faith in country without devotion to fellows, no commitment to duty without service to others. Through his life and his words, we can find much to admire in men like him.
Second Lieutenant Compton commanded the second platoon of Easy Company in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the famed 101st Airborne Division about which so many tales are told. In an episode familiar to any viewer of theBand of Brothers series, in 1944 Buck Compton and others assaulted a German battery operating four 105 mm howitzers directed at Utah Beach, disabling the guns and routing the enemy. Buck was awarded the Silver Star for that action. Later, after being wounded in an operation aimed at seizing bridges in the Netherlands, Buck returned to his unit in time for the month-long siege that would in time become known as the Battle of the Bulge.
In the course of my military service, I have learned what its like to fight on foreign soil. When bullets begin flying and fighting grows thick, the ability of any individual to make correct decisions is sorely tested. Indecisiveness can be costly; poor judgment deadly. As this memoir so ably details, Buck Comptons performance in battle demonstrates that firmness and strategic thinking can save lives. In critical moments on the World War II battlefront, Buck Compton was there: fighting, persevering, and never relenting.
Yet Bucks story doesnt end there. He returned from war to a life of public service, measuring success not only by victories on the battlefield but also through his conduct during seasons of peace. Turning down an offer to play minor league baseball, he focused on a career in law, became a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department and, ultimately, an Associate Justice on the California Appeals Court. In reaching a level of success in civilian life commensurate with his victories in battle, Buck Compton showed us the many ways in which Americans fight for justice.
This memoir does his story the service it deserves. This book is the next best thing to having this courageous, thoughtful, and exceedingly modest hero relate in person the adventures and exploits of Easy Company, the prosecution of Sirhan Sirhan, and other tales from the life of an extraordinary American called to duty in an extraordinary time. In understanding the life of honor and service Buck Compton has bestowed upon his country, we glimpse anew the greatness that is America. US Senator John McCain Phoenix, Arizona January, 2008
The true story of an American heroin his own words.
As part of the elite 101st Airborne paratroopers, Lt. LynnBuck Compton fought in critical battles of World War II as a member of Easy Company, immortalized as the Band of Brothers.
Here, Buck Compton tells his own story for the first time. From his years as a two-sport UCLA star who played baseball with Jackie Robinson and football in the 1943 Rose Bowl, through his legendary post- World War II legal career as a prosecutor, in which he helped convict Sirhan Sirhan for the murder of Robert F. Kennedy, Buck Compton truly embodies the American Dream: college sports star, esteemed combat veteran, detective, attorney, judge.
This is the true story of a real-life hero who traveled to a faraway place and put his life on the line for the cause of freedomand an insightful memoir about courage, leadership, camaraderie, compassion, and the opportunities for success that can only happen in America. (An Honorable German)
(A Great Read from Many Directions)
(Page turning read)
(The best World War II novel I have read in a long time....) Fantastic, page-turning, thrill-ride of a read. Exciting presentation. Thoughtful romantic interest. Gripping detail. Astonishing historic accuracy. When is McCain's next book coming out? Sign me up! Excellent first novel by Charles McCain. Charlie must have done tons of research in order to produce this book. Charles had written me about his book as I am a subvet, so went to read it and then found it has a lot more than submarines in it. I especially liked the way his characters brought out what was going on in Germany during the war with many of the Military not only not Nazis, but not even approving of those who were. It takes a lot of courage to be honorable around those who are not and although these are fictional characters, I know that many real people existed who led the same lives. The story was very human with the main characters failing as we all do, but still also working toward their goals. I always like to read good sea stories and this one was very authentic. His descriptions of onboard life and of what happens with severe storms was great. You can learn a lot from this book and it is accurate in it's portrayal of shipboard life and the military in Germany at that time. Also of what was happening within the South American Countries while WWII was going on. My main criteria of a good author is the ability to pick up and read the book again and this is one I'll do so many times. For those who have never been in the Navy and especially on submarines, what you read is the way it was. Great job Charles. I look forward to the next one.
I have to admit that I read very few novels about WWII, and do not ever remember reading anything about the German Navy, so it was a happy occasion that I came to read this book. From the first chapter, I was hooked. McCain's "The Honorable German" was a fantastic read. His descriptions of conditions on a U-Boat, the emotional and ethical struggles of Max as the commander in charge, and the battles and rescues at sea were fantastic. I loved the fact that McCain weaved in a romantic life for our hero and delivered an indepth account of what it must have been like for a young German naval officer in WWII who was truly "Honorable" in thought, word and deed. A page turner I enjoyed immensely. Annie M. I read a tremendous amount of military history and fiction. I cannot remember that last time I read a World War II novel that I enjoyed as much. An Honorable German is interesting and well written. It is also extremely well researched - there were many small details that I had never known. The book has action, a love story, and a thoughtful look at trying to reconcile love of country and a reprehensible government. I look forward to reading future books from Mr. McCain. In the tradition of Das Boot and The Hunt for Red October comes a sweeping saga of World War II, featuring a heroic and conflicted German U-Boat commander.
An Honorable German
When World War II begins, Max Brekendorf, a proud young German naval officer, fights for his country with honor and courage. With the unstoppable German war machine overrunning Europe, Max looks ahead to a bright future with his fianc?e, Mareth. But as the war progresses, their future together becomes less and less certain. German victories begin to fade. In the North Atlantic, Max must face the increasing strength of the Allies on ever more harrowing missions. Berlin itself is savaged by bombing, making life for Mareth increasingly dangerous and desperate. And as the Third Reich steadily crumbles, Nazi loyalists begin to infiltrate Max's crew and turn their terror on Germany's own armed forces. Recognizing what his nation has become, Max is forced to make a choice between his own sense of morality, and his duty to the Reich. With its stirring, rarely seen glimpse of the German home front during WWII, vivid characters, and evocation of the drama and terror of war at sea, An Honorable German is a suspense-filled story of adventure, of love and loss, and of honor and redemption.
