Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Hilarious but NOT DISHWASHER OR MICROWAVE SAFE) 『What a great idea! I love these disappearing mugs! I have one that shows what the world will look like once the polar ice caps melt. I bought this one for my lawyer boyfriend, but like most lawyers he was stubborn and didn't believe the instructions on the box that say explicitly not to put this mug in the dishwasher. He also put it in the microwave. I'm not sure which process actually ruined the mug, but the combination was more than fatal. All of the writing came off and now it's just a boring white mug. The bottom line? Be gentle with these mugs!』
(didnt even work once) 『i was very disappointed when i used this mug for the first time. it didnt do anything and there was already clear overcoat coming off the letters. i hand washed it after that first use, and half of my rights washed away right down the drain. i was really looking forward to using this when a far left goofball was coming to visit, and it never did anything it said it would. if id of known this, i wouldve bought a plain white mug for a couple bucks, rather then waste $15 on this. if anyone knows of one of these types of mugs that work, please let me know where u got it. id like to purchase one.』
(OK for a joke) 『The wording that disappears is affixed to a plastic overlay. I purchased two. One was horribly aligned and the other had bubbles under it.』
(My Rights Still Are There - Rly.) 『To those who seem to lose their rights shortly after the cups first wash: WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING TO THE POOR COFFEE CUP?! IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE POWER WASHED.
With that finished, let this exciting review begin.
When you pour FRESH coffee into it, and yes, coffee; reason being: coffee is the only drink worthy enough to be in it; the rights on the cup will disappear in accordance with those that disappear due to the Patriot Act. They fade away into a dim yellow, not exactly white but close enough.
I use Dawn Foaming-Action soap on this cup with a typical sponge. I do not see the need for using a power washer like other reviewers, grease remover, wire brush, etc. You just simply wash out the inside, sponge it a bit, then run the sponge carefully over the rights once or twice and then focus the sponge around where you put your mouth on. Simple as that.
If you drink very sticky and obnoxious things that require a different cup or leave things to mold in cups - this cup is not for you because you'd wash the rights off cleaning it. :3』
(Very funny mug!) 『This mug is very funny. It says on the box not to machine wash and I've washed mine (by hand) dozens of times. I chuckle (and shiver with fear a little) everytime I use it!』 『Watch your civil liberties disappear over a hot beverage. The Bill of Rights is proudly displayed, verbatim, on this mug, until you pour in hot liquid. Then, alas, your constitution erodes. Mug is microwave safe, but not meant for the dishwasher. Not intended for the politically humorless.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Doggy Hoots Cracklers) 『Not as enthusiastic as previous reviewers. I ordered one for each of my dogs. They were smaller than I expected and they did not last a day. After reading reviews I ordered both the chipmuck and rabbit but was highly disappointed. Not as tough as advertised.』
(great) 『These dog toys are some of the best I have found. My Boston Terriers are very hard on toys and other than Kongs these have lasted them longer than most. Granted I have to do a little sewing to repair them but being cut from on piece of cloth they seen to last longer, the largers ones with the legs sewn on do not make it as long.』
(One "Piece" be with you!) 『The "Squeak-ah", as it is now affectionately known, is the very best dog toy that we have ever found. Our dog has different toys for tugging and chewing, but pretty much all toys end up as a "de-fluffing" toy. This one is still in one Piece! I throw it through the washing machine and it still has not worn to weakness. I've just ordered 3 more different designs and I will be thrilled if they hold up as well as this one!』
(Fat Cat dog toys last *forever*) 『This is the best dog toy ever! My 2 large dogs have had this toy for well over a year and play with it very roughly on a daily basis. They try desperately but they can't destroy him! The squeaker even still works! About 3 months ago the new puppy managed to get a small tear in the belly fabric with his sharp baby teeth, but the dogs can't get any of the stuffing out. They can't even manage to make the tear any bigger, but oh how they try! Fat Cat dog toys are the real deal... buy them and you won't be disappointed!』
(Worlds Greatest Dog Toy) 『My Australian Cattle Dog loves her Chipy! In my house, NO squeaky lasts a day inside a toy and most toys don't last a week without a tear. My dog does not chew but she plays tug with all her toys with either my family or other dogs. This Chipmunk (the first one) lasted us a year. The squeaky...maybe 4 months but even after the squeaky is gone it still "crackles". The trick to this, and the rabbit too, is that it is two whole pieces of very heavy canvas sewn together then stuffed down a seam in the belly. What that means is that the legs, arms&tail are NOT separate pieces sewn into the body...soooo they don't rip out, cannot be eaten and then the poor toy gutted! Seriously, Chipy lasted through a year of tugging, light chewing and several washes. This is the only toy I will buy from now on.』 『Doggy Hoots - Chipmunk Crackler this cute little chipmunk dog toy is approximately 10" long head to tail. This toy is loaded with fun besides the crackling each toy also has a squeaker!. The Chipmunk Crackler will definitely deliver a hopping good time to your dog!』

This was a time era when I was all about Jewel, NSync, and others. Anyway, I ordered this album from BMG Music(still owe them money for it) and almost immediately fell in love with it. It had to grow on me because-where I'm from- this genre of music definitely isn't acknowledged. However, after spending some restless nights with it, I loved it. Edwin McCain has this voice that moves me deep within and I couldn't help but to find this album on here and leave a review for it. Some of my favorites are "Grind Me In The Gears", "Rhythm of Life", and "Holy City". 』
(misguided roses) 『this is a great album by Edwin McCain the price was good music was even better thanks to Amazon for being there for us keep up the good work』
(Misguided Roses - Edwin McCain) 『I'm one of those audiophiles that purchase an album for one song when I want it. In this case it was Edwin McCain's "I'll Be". The CD does not disappoint, and the song is a wonderful medley about love and relationships as well as commitment. I'll explore more of Edwin's work on this album as time goes by, but I recommend it for anyone that wants to expand their music library.』
(Amazing Album) 『Misguided Roses is without a doubt the best of Edwin McCain's albums and one of the absolute best albums in my collection. Every song on the CD tells a story that never fails to reach out and touch the listener. Like many others, I discovered Edwin through the hit song "I'll Be" (included on the album) and became a fan because of the quality of his lyrics and music. I've listened to every album Edwin McCain has put out and have yet to find one that I didn't like, but this one stands out head and shoulders above the rest. The lyrics of this album have an amazing thought provoking quality to them that really shows off his talent and makes you marvel at what a well written phrase can do. It went a long way toward teaching me how much depth good writing really has and how much possibility there is in the written word.
Oh, by the way, don't miss the hidden track at the end of The Holy City. It's amazing and, coupled with The Holy City, is worth the price of the album.』
(Beautiful lyrics and great music) 『Edwin McCain is a great songwriter, and he has the voice and the band to back it up.
One of my favorite lines from any of his songs is from "I'll Be":
"The strands in your eyes that color them wonderful stop me and steal my breath. Like emeralds from mountains, thrust towards the sky, never revealing their depths."
Edwin McCain is a very underappreciated artist. I don't understand why he isn't more popular. Maybe he is too hard to pigeonhole. He's not just folk. He's not just blues. He's not just soul. He's not just rock. He's not just pop. He's all of these things in a perfect blend. Whatever you want to call him, he's worth a listen if you like mature music with a cohesive range of styles and moods.
If you like this album, I would also highly recommend his album "Honor Among Thieves".』 『Edwin McCain landed a major-label contract on the strength of his sets opening shows for his old South Carolina buddies, Hootie and the Blowfish. McCain's major-label debut, 1995'sHonor Among Thieves, featured a duet with Hootie's Darius Rucker, and closely resembled the Blowfish formula of earnest soul vocals over acoustic-led folk-rock. On the followup,Misguided Roses, McCain tries to put some distance between himself and his famous mentors by adopting a fuller, more amplified pop-rock sound. It's an approach that shows off McCain's handsome tenor and his knack for writing catchy choruses, even if it does nothing for his melodramatic lyrics.
Recorded in Nashville with session vets Matt Rollings and Kenny Greenberg producing,Misguided Rosesgains its full textures from the tightly packed layers of guitars and keyboards. If these mid-'70s, Southern-California arrangements remind one of the second-generation Doobie Brothers, you won't be surprised to find Michael McDonald matching his grainy, blue-eyed soul voice with McCain's on two numbers. And when McCain comes up with a Top-40-radio hook as effective as those on "I'll Be," "Darwin's Children," and "Holy City," you might find yourself wishing you didn't understand English so you could enjoy the music without hearing lines as stilted as "Emeralds from mountains thrust towards the sky."--Geoffrey Himes』

(Overacting on a major scale) 『To put it mildly, this CD is pretty bad. The production however is quite good - the mixing and mastering and sonic qualities are very good. Too bad they had such drivel to work with. This guy is for music what evening TV actors are for acting. Awful. You know when you see someone over-acting so much it is almost laughable? That's what this guy does when he sings. He is so full of his overblown self importance and "I'm so deep and spent so much time calculating how to express my inner emotions" - it is excruciating. And it is phony. Small surprise that his music is sometimes used on TV shows.
I kept thinking it was gonna get better, but it only got worse. Then it got to "I'll Be" which, well, the single studio version was . . . well . . . it was what it was, it wasn't bad so much as overplayed, the kind of song that is harmlessly poignant. But on this CD we get the "live" version and McCain just butchers it with awful overacting with the phony emotion he forces down the listeners ear canals. It would actually be rather comical if he wasn't so serious about it.
Seriously, this CD is like prime time TV, stay away and you'll be the better for it. I give it 2 Stars because of the very good engineering and mastering, the only redeeming qualities of this CD. 』
(Good CD!) 『Why Edwin McCain never really hit it big, I'll never know!
All his songs are well sung and he has had several big hits!
Good all around cd!』
(Reviewed by Dianna) 『This album has held me and sung me to sleep on many lonely nights. My husband is a Navy SEAL, and we have lost a lot of friends in the war. My husband and I both agree that if he dies in combat, his funeral song will be "Prayer to St. Peter". I hope we never have to use it for that purpose.』
(Proving the Indie Rock Movement can be a Commercial Success) 『The 1990s music landscape saw Alternative Rock begin to basically become part of the mainstream music fold. However, Alternative Rock also began to produce many other off-shoots. This was because there was a perception that groups such as "Nirvana" and "Gin Blossoms" would "sell out" to commercial culture. As a result, a sub-movement within Alternative Rock began to form called "Indie Rock". The "Indie" stands for independent. It is a style of music that often covers a wide variety of genres, often working on independent record labels, but most importantly the artist maintains complete control of the music and their careers. However as Indie Rock stars gained popularity, even this term began to blur a bit. One artist who rose to popularity in the Indie Rock movement was Edwin McCain. Edwin McCain's second album "Misguided Roses" produced one of the biggest hits of 1997 and 1998 called "I'll Be". While I always felt that this was an overrated song, it did give McCain's career the boost it needed. While McCain's commercial success might have put his "Indie Rock" status in question, his style would still remain true to the "Indie Rock" roots. It would be McCain's third album, "Messenger" that would show his "Indie Rock" roots. Surprisingly, this album didn't garner the critical acclaim that I would have expected.
As mentioned, a key facet to the "Indie Rock" movement is maintaining complete control of the music - in other words, doing things your own way. For the most part, with McCain, this is not an issue. The sound on "Messenger" by McCain is as "Coffee House" as you can get. There is a lot of use of acoustic (even if it is electric acoustic) guitars. McCain supplements this sound very nicely with the use of saxophones and horns. He also makes a stronger use of drums and percussions than most "Coffee House" style artists.
McCain is also one very talented songwriter. As for doing things "his own way", this is very evident on "Messenger". McCain penned 11 of the 12 tracks. One might give him some criticism for using a song ("I Could Not Ask For More") written by a very "commercial songwriter" like Diane Warren, but McCain puts his own spin on that track. After all, part of Indie Rock is doing things your own way - and that is very evident on that track.
McCain's songwriting includes a wide variety of topics. Most notably, McCain's spirituality surfaces in the song "A Prayer to St. Peter". This is an acoustic sounding song that I'm shocked didn't garner more attention on the Christian Contemporary circuit. While McCain does include other spiritual/religious references on "Messenger" (such as "Ghost of Jackson Square", "Sign on the Door", "Beautiful Life", and even on Warren's "I Could Not Ask For More"). I would say it's safe to say that McCain is a Christian influenced musician. McCain also sings on other topics - such as a tribute to his grandmother ("See Off This Mountain"); Alcoholism ("Sign on the Door" and "Go Be Young"); and of course love and romance ("Wish In This World", "Promise of You", I'll Be")
As far as McCain's songwriting goes, it is his use of metaphors that really hits home. While I did feel "I'll Be" was an overrated song, this was a song that did use metaphors very well (i.e. "Emeralds from mountains thrust from the sky", "Rain falls angry on the tin roof"). McCain carries this trademark over to "Messenger". This is seen on several tracks such as: "Wish in this World" ("Running to grass so green; Dangerous road, but it's not going to change"); "Ghost of Jackson Square" ("But fall from the height; my personal ledges; afraid to look down; my crepe paper bridges; enough water to drawn"); "Prayer to St. Peter" ("The taste of summer; and a ripened pear; and girls sweet as meadow wind"); and Sign on the Door ("With a Sign on the Door; Saying sorry we're closed").
Throughout the album, the balance between McCain's haunting vocals and the outstanding work done by his band are really done well. There isn't a bad track on this collection. Perhaps the best example of the balance between the vocals and band work is on "Go Be Young". This song got a lot of airplay and deserved it - it is the best track on the album. "I Could Not Ask for More" also get some attention as well - and also well deserved. There are many other tracks that I'm surprised didn't garner more airplay or attention - such as "Wish In This World", "Beautiful Life", "Prayer to St. Peter", "Ghosts of Jackson Square", and "Do Your Thing". "Sign on the Door" is another standout track that takes on almost a gospel-like feel toward the end of the track.
My only criticism of "Messenger" is the inclusion of the "acoustic" version "I'll Be". I almost feel that this was included to capitalize on the big success of "I'll Be". Ok, it was a popular song and there may be a market to hear a more "acoustic" sound, but I think this would have been better suited for a greatest hits album. I had mentioned that McCain did things his own way "for the most part". Perhaps the record company put some pressure to include this. While you can say this violates the spirit of the Indie Rock movement, you can also say that perhaps McCain wanted to include this - and did things his own way.
The liner notes contain all of the lyrics to all of the songs as well as the musician and production credits. While "Messenger" would be a commercial success, that would be the last album that McCain would have commercial success. McCain would return to his Indie roots of touring and word of mouth music. But "Messenger" proved that Indie Music can be good even it does sell well. Highly recommended.』 『Edwin McCain struck gold with his 1997 release,Misguided Roses, which sold half a million copies and spawned theDawson's Creek-driven hit single "I'll Be," so he's probably earned the right to think big. That's what he does onMessenger, attacking his new set of songs with fleshed-out arrangements, several of which involve string sections and horns. Fans of McCain's more stripped-down fare will be disappointed by his rather bold-faced move toward the middle of the road, the most egregious example being the Diane Warren-penned ballad "I Could Not Ask for More," which is typically syrupy and overwrought. McCain's acoustic-driven "Ghosts of Jackson Square" is more on target, as is the soulful "Wish on the World" and the bouncy "Beautiful Life." Fans of "I'll Be" will enjoy hearing it again here, this time in a hushed vocals-guitar-sax version that's even more direct and affecting than the original.--Daniel Durchholz』

(Good album, faulty manufacturing) 『In my opinion, this is a great album. All of the songs are good if you like music (that is, if you don't pigeonhole yourself into listening to specific genres only, and you're open to all types of music).
There is one big problem with this disc, however. Edwin McCain's "I'll Be" skips at 1:15 into the track. It repeats the last couple of seconds instead of what should be there (so technically, it doesn't skip, but there was a problem in the manufacturing process). At first I thought my encoder messed up, but a second encoding had the same result. I looked at the disc, and it looks perfect, no marks or scratches or anything. I checked it in my stereo, and sure enough, the track skips at 1:15. 』
(A cinderella story it's so good) 『This product was brilliant; all of the songs fit together perfectly. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that 'hear you me' by 'jimmy' was not on it; the song 'friend' is such a sweet song though it makes up for this.』
(Dissapointed) 『I was thoroughly dissapointed when I picked up this soundtrack. There are different versions on this CD than that which are performed in the movie. 'Best Day Of My Life' is not performed by Jesse McCartney, and I really think that the version that is better is the one that plays in the movie, yet it's not a track. And 'Now You Know' is listed as by Hilary Duff, but also in the movie is not performed by Hilary Duff. Once again, the better version was in the movie, and I think it was a mistake to include these versions of the tracks. I really love the music on this soundtrack, surprisingly, I just wish it had the versions that were actually in the movie.』
(Awesome!) 『I really love the songs on this CD, especially 2,3,10 and 12. Those are just my favorites.
Love the movie, and most of the music off of it, so knew I'd love the CD.
Fabulous!』 『"A Cinderella Story" collects some of the biggest performers in pop, but the highlights are certainly the four new Hilary Duff tracks (a cover of the Go Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed," "Crash World," "The Girl Can Rock" and "Now You Know." (The disc also includes "Anywhere But Here," a track from Duff's triple-platinum bow, "Metamorphosis.")
Other performances on "A Cinderella Story" include two songs from Radio Disney star Jesse McCartney (star of the WB's "Summerland"), and tracks from Goo Goo Dolls ("Sympathy"), Jimmy Eat World ("Hear You Me") and MxPx ("First Day of the Rest of Our Lives").』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Good movie, no classic but solid acting by Begley, Jr.) 『This movie went a bit too slow for me, but overall, it was a good film. Made me cry a couple times when soem horrific things happened to the horse. But it was genuinely a well written story and Begley, Jr. is always a solid actor. The man is one of the greats of his era, as his Oscar winning father was a great in his. Tab Hunter did a great job with a small part. But his greatest film is: Track of the Cat.』
(DARK HORSE is a winner!) 『Wonderful family movie, heartwarming and endearing. A++++』
(One of the best movies ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 『Great movie. espeially for horse lovers.I really like how everything worked out at the end and Allison got Jet!』
(great family movie) 『Good movie especially for teens. The only parts I didn't like were the goofy"romantic"scenes between Ed Begley and Mimi Rogers...they had absolutely no on-screen chemistry. The interaction between the girl and the horse is great. Worthwhile.』
(Plain and Simple: Wonderful!) 『I first saw the last 1/4 on Animal Planet on cable about a year ago. It stunned me and amazed me at the same time. I hunted high and low for a copy to no avail. I emailed Animal Planet and found out that it would be on again on President' s Day. The stupid VCR didn't work! I finally found a place that could order me a copy and it arrived today. I watched it all the way through. Amazing. A great family story if I've ever seen one. Buy this movie, you'll be SO glad you did!』

(Still good....) 『Still good after all these years. Kevin Bacon's interview is GREAT. AWsome songs made for the movie fit in perfectly.』
(YES) 『I bought this for my mom along with the Cd after we saw the Broadway production. She had never seen the film - I know OMG .. so got her this and she loves it. It's alot of fun to re-watch it again and if you loved it growing up, it's perfect for your DVD collection and you can find good sellers who have it for a couple dollars.』
(Awesome Movie!) 『I'll say up front that this movie has a lot of profanity in it, but it paints such an amazing picture of the kind of crappy situations that kids go through at highschool that the foul language is to be expected. The bad guy is evil, the good guy is misunderstood, and the female protagonist is a rebel. There's a lot of 80's dancing and styles, but this movie is still applicable to youth today.
This film teaches well the lesson of what to do when there is an unjust rule governing your society. This movie should not encourage rebellion, although if your child is not very bright then you might consider that as good reason to restrict this movie from them.』
(GREAT MOVIE BUT A BIT GRAINY) 『Not up to HD standards but still loved and enjoyed the film.. if your a fan go and get it just dont expect the graphics and sound to blow you away..』 『Director Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) pulled a winning movie out of this almost self-consciously archetypal tale of teenage rock rebellion. Kevin Bacon stars as a hip city kid who ends up in a Bible-belt town after his parents divorce. An ill fit for a conservative community where rock is frowned upon and dancing is forbidden, Bacon's character rallies the kids and takes on the establishment. Between a good cast really embracing the drama of Dean Pitchford's screenplay, and Ross's imaginative, highly charged way of shooting the dance numbers, you can get lost in this all-ages confection, and you won't even mind Kenny Loggins's bubbly pop. Bonuses include one of John Lithgow's best performances (a bit reminiscent of Jimmy Stewart), and Christopher Penn (who sure doesn't look the same anymore) as a good-natured hick who learns to boogie.--Tom Keogh』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (No Patch about it) 『Any rating under 5 stars is a tragedy. This movie is absolutely wonderful in many many ways. There is no question about the talent Robin Williams brings but both Monica Potter and Phillip Seymour Hoffman are spectacular in their roles. Simply put, Fantastic. The balance of tragedy and comedy is unsurpassed!』
(What a movie should be) 『This is one of those movies that I kept wanting to watch, but never got around to it. With the long holiday weekend, my family decided that watching this would be a good way to spend part of the time.
I loved it! Patch Adams is a fascinating character and the story is wonderful. Robin Williams is at his best -- not too over-the-top but absolutely hysterical at times. I was laughing out loud in parts and very deeply touched in others. What more can one say about a movie?
I also have to say that Monica Potter is great in this. The camera loves her and she can really, really act.
A great movie that runs the full range of emotion -- terrific!』
(The Patch Review) 『I really enjoy this Movie I'm glad i was able to get it. It came in good condition and there were no scratches on the disks.』
(Waited and waited) 『I didn't receive the item till after the deadline shipment date. i was supposed to receive it by the 18th and didnt get it till later. Boo』
(A DRAMIC COMEDY) 『I'VE SEEN THIS BEFORE BUT NEVER KNEW PATCH ADAMS WAS A REAL PERSON. ROBIN WILLIAMS PLAYS THIS ROLE BEAUTIFULLY. PERFECTLY PUTTING COMEDY AND DRAMA IN THE RIGHT PLACE』 『Patch Adamsraises two schools of thought: There are those who are inspired by the true story of a troubled man who finds happiness in helping others--a man set on changing the world and who may well accomplish the task. And then there are those who feel manipulated by this feel-good story, who want to smack the young medical student every time he begins his silly antics.
Staving off suicidal thoughts, Hunter Adams commits himself into a psychiatric ward, where he not only garners the nickname "Patch," but learns the joy in helping others. To this end, he decides to go to medical school, where he clashes with the staid conventions of the establishment as he attempts to inject humor and humanity into his treatment of the patients ("We need to start treating the patient as well as the disease," he declares throughout the film). Robin Williams, in the title role, is as charming as ever, although someone should tell him to broaden his range--the ever-cheerful do-gooderà laGood Will HuntingandDead Poets Societyis getting a little old. His sidekick Truman (Daniel London) steals the show with his gawky allure and eyebrows that threaten to overtake his lean face--he seems more real, which is odd considering that Patch Adams does exist and this film is based on his life. Monica Potter is the coolly reluctant love interest, and she makes the most of her one-dimensional part. While moments of true heartfelt emotion do come through, the major flaw of this film is that the good guys are just so gosh-darn good and the bad ones are just big meanies with no character development.Patch Adams, though, does provide the tears, the giggles, and the kooky folks who will keep you smiling at the end.--Jenny Brown』

Some things have become scientific facts, some have been proven wrong. The only downside is the resolution. The lack of sharpness makes it look out of focus on a 42" HD display. Even using an upconverter couldn't make it look anything like a standard resolution broadcast of today. Sad.
But the content... is still a journey of wondering and expanding the "what if's" of time and space.』
(Visiting the cosmos) 『I have purchased the set as a gift to my very scientifically oriented grandson, age 14. I will again view it as he opens the disks. My memory of the broadcast was that it was a great way to understand how science works and how things have been discovered, all the way back to the Greeks. After 29 years or so much that Sagan discusses - or doesn't - has been changed by new discoveries such as dark matter, dark energy and the accelerating expansion of the universe. But don't let that stop you from the pleasure and understanding to be achieved by watching.』
(Looked bit old but quality was good) 『I am more a man with content over quality in this case... Made available by Amazon, looked bit old but quality was good. This is rare collection, enjoyed by all 3 genres at home... 』
(No one communicates science better) 『Though slightly dated (the original series was done in the 70's&the dvd set has updated postscripts for many of the episodes added in the late 90's), Cosmos is a great overview of Science presented by the 20th Century's best science communicator. Very highly recommended!』
(True Yesterday, True Today) 『When I was young(er)my father made "Cosmos" mandatory TV viewing. For me and my two sisters, Dr. Sagan made the universe come alive! As a teenager, my dad bought me my first telescope. Now, I just gave a telescope to my husband for his birthday, along with this series. I think I will be creating a monster!
"what do you want to be when you grow up?" Easy answer: an astronomer,of course! However, I can't do the math, being disabled in that area. Carl Sagan brought the universe into my living room and exceeded the hope I had of learning more about the cosmos- I can't wait to see this series on our big-screen TV! (anybody know CPR??)
Before his death, Dr. Sagan left us a dire warning about the folly of nuclear warfare and the resulting world-ending nuclear winter. All these years later, Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" won the Pulizer Prize, again reminding us that nuclear exchanges will result in exactly what Dr. Sagan predicted in this series. I think we'd better pay heed to both of them.
BUY THIS SERIES. It's just as relevant and breathtaking as it was in 1980, if not more so. Lest mankind get a bit to big for its' britches, take a look and see just how big the universe really is! For all our sense of self-importance, planet Earth is merely a speck upon a speck, ad litem. In "Cosmos," Dr. Sagan shows us the glory and the danger of the universe we call home.

』 『WhenCosmoswas first broadcast in 1980, our world--and the context of Carl Sagan's eloquent "personal journey"--was a different place. The late Dr. Sagan would be pleased to witness the cooling of the Cold War, the continued exploration of space, and ongoing efforts to curb our destructive dependence on fossil fuels. For Sagan's series is far more than a guided tour through "billions and billions" of stars and galaxies. It remains a profound plea for the unity of humankind, for the recognition that "we are a way for the universe to know itself," with an obligation to know our origin, our place in the universe, and our future potential.
In the course of 13 fascinating hours,Cosmosspans its own galaxy of topics to serve Sagan's theme, each segment deepening our understanding of how we got from there (simple microbes in the primordial mud) to here (space-faring civilization in the 21st century). In his "ship of the imagination," Sagan guides us to the farthest reaches of space and takes us back into the history of scientific inquiry, from the ancient library of Alexandria to the NASA probes of our neighboring planets. Upon this vast canvas Sagan presents the "cosmic calendar," placing the 15-billion-year history of the universe into an accessible one-year framework, then filling it with a stunning chronology of events, both interstellar and earthbound.
From the lives of the stars to creation theories, functions of the human brain, and the ongoing search for extraterrestrial intelligence,Cosmosasks big questions. When appropriate, Sagan offers big answers, or asks still bigger--and yes, even spiritual--questions at the boundaries of science and religion. What's most remarkable aboutCosmosis that it remains almost entirely fresh, with few updates needed to the science that Sagan so passionately celebrates. It is no exaggeration to say thatCosmos--for all the debate it may continue to provoke--is a vital document for humanity at a pivotal crossroads of our history.--Jeff Shannon

Bonuses include one of John Lithgow's best performances (a bit reminiscent of Jimmy Stewart), and Christopher Penn (who sure doesn't look the same anymore) as a good-natured hick who learns to boogie.--Tom Keogh』 『A portrayal of the timeless struggle between innocent pleasure and rigid morality.

(donut shop coffee??) 『The product description says this is coffee people brand donut shop variety coffee. Given that it was a nice price, I stocked up. Much to my disappointment, the coffee didn't live up to the same caliber as the DONUT SHOP, one of our favorites. I emailed the coffee people co. and they insist it is DONUT SHOP- the three of us who purchased this all agree it couldn't possibly be the same coffee. It was a huge disappointment.』
(If you like your coffee white&bitter) 『although admittedly rich, it wasn't bold enough and was far too bitter to get my vote.』
(Don't believe everything you read) 『On the basis of the reviews here which claimed the Obama&McCain blends were re-branded Coffee People Donut Shop (which I love),I bought a bunch of McCains blend. The fact that it was a bargain price made it even more appealing. As the old saw goes, don't believe everything you hear/read. I've tried several cups of the McCains then compared it to the Donut Shop x-bold and its NOT the same. The McCains isn't bad, its just not the great cuppa Joe I get with the branded Donut Shop X-Bold. I thought (perhaps) the McCains was Donut Shop without the extra 25% coffee grounds in the K-cup they add to make an x-tra bold brew, so I tried reducing the size cup. That didn't work. Perhaps the McCains is outdated ? (btw, that's not political commentary........the election is over!!) Don't be disappointed, pay the few dollars extra for the real deal. 』

Swamiware was obviously aware of this and used this knowledge to incorporate incredible artificial intelligence to simulate a first class examiner. So your results are dead on.
How it works. You Enter a name of the thing to investigate, enter some info about the person you are going to test, and then enter in the yes/no questions you want to ask. The program makes suggestions for questions also.
You attach the finger clip sensor (pulse), skin wraps to detect sweat, and the chest strap to your human who is being tested. It all goes into a small box that is plugged into your PC's USB port.
You follow the onscreen instructions. The test begins and the program tells you what to say and ask. It throws in control and irrelevant questions automatically when the program feels it needs to. It analyzes the test subject's answers after they respond over 5-20 seconds.
The program throws in other questions if it needs to. While the test continues you are asked to press a button if you see rapid eye movement or other guilty body language from the test subject. Your basically letting the computer know about this and it uses the data.
The software knows what the answers should be (dont ask me how) and then renders a verdict on each question saying whether it was truthful or lying response.

He seems rather well made but we'll see how he holds up over time setting there in his box. In a time when America so desperately needed a hero, along came a man to show us a brand new vision of what America and the world could be in the 21st century. In many ways, Obama is the closest thing we've ever seen to a superhero... someone who has literally inspired millions of people simultaneously to step past fear, to be brave enough to hope and to go past cynicism and imagine what we could be if we were at our best. That's the stuff of legend! And Jailbreak Toys wanted to pitch in. So in that spirit, they created the Obama Action Figure, because every superhero should have one. 6 inches tall, 8 points of articulation, window boxed and made from phthalate-free PVC. As far as the toy goes it is important to remember that it is a caricature. Some have complained that the hair is not black all the way to the sideburns. It is not supposed to be. If you look at Obama the hair closest to his face is short and then the cut graduates out. This is called a "fade." By not coloring a portion of the hair the artist was trying to replicate that look. If he had colored all of it black the affect would have been an old style "afro" which would really not be accurate. Some people don't like it is too comical. To those I say "pooey." It is a caricature....and..have you seen the one of John McCain? Or the one of Hillary? They are just as hiliarious. I positively love this toy and plan to order the others just so I can have the set.』
(Couldn't buy just one!) 『The original purchase was for a GOP friend recovering from major surgery...she was delighted. And once I'd seen it I bought one of my own. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A Decent Introduction on the Subject) 『This book generally delivers on its purpose, which is to introduce young readers to the important topic of World War II. In my estimation, if your child isn't already interested, this book may not necessarily awaken him or her (Ambrose's "The Good Fight" is better), but for your interested son or daughter, ages 8 to 13 or so, this is a useful resource. As a history it is pretty light, but it is not a bad overview, and provides some great insight into the Home Front and other non-traditional perspectives on the War. There are a few WW-II themed crafts and activity ideas, all of which are pointless and the very type of things that children and their parents ignore the world over.』
(World War II for Kids) 『Wonderful for history buffs of all ages. Approiate for younger readers, filled with activities to spark dialog about War and sacrifice.』
(What it was like for kids to live during World War II) 『"World War II for Kids: A History with 21 Activities"really has three key components. First, there is a history of World War II from Hitler's rise to power in 1933 to the surrender of the Japanese in 1945. Second, Richard Panchyk provides excerpts from actual wartime letters written to and by troops on both sides along with personal anecdotes from people who lived through the war. Finally, there are 21 activities that can show young readers how it felt to live through World War II, both on the battlefield and on the Home Front.
Actually, the first function is the least impressive part of"World War II for Kids,"although Panchyk provides a solid history of the war. It is just that the personal writings and recollections, along with the activities, are where Panchyk goes beyond what you would find in your standard American history textbook, which is why this is an excellent supplemental volume. Teachers can certainly use the activities and quote from the letters found in this volume to give students more of a sense of what it was like to live during that time.
The 21 activities are fairly interesting and cover a variety of subjects. Some are fairly complex, such as substituting a potato for an incendiary bomb and following the instructions on how to extinguish it, or staging a radio adventure program, while others are relatively simply, such as drawing a recruiting poster. There is an exercise in code breaking, learning how to camouflage, making a ration kit, going on a reconnaissance mission, figuring oat a coastal defense, the physics of dropping bombs, and a game that helps demonstrate the difference between mortar and howitzer fire versus anti-tank and anti-aircraft fire. There are also"Home Front"activities like making a bandage, putting together a care package, growing a Victory Garden, sending V-Mail, and extending butter, as well as a couple of activities having to do with the Holocaust by making a Jewish star and trying to find good hiding places in your home for the student and an adult helper.
Obviously some of these activities are going to be more practical and more beneficial than others, but Panchyk has made an attempt to come up with different ways of giving his young readers an idea of what it was like for kids and adults during World War II. Again, while young readers can certainly read this book and try the activities on their own,"World War II for Kids"is even better suited as a resource for teachers to use when teaching the pivotal events of World War II. Comparing what life was like for their grandparents during that war as opposed to the rather limited impact on their lives today during the war on terrorism could be quite an eye opener for young readers.』
(7 year old loves this book) 『My 7 year old son is a WWII fanatic and loves this book. It discusses not only events in the war itself, but also the impact of the war on life in the U.S. The activities encourage kids to think about far-reaching effects of war, not just the exciting battles.』 『Now more than ever, kids want to know about our country's great struggles during World War II. This book is packed with information that kids will find fascinating, from Hitler's rise to power in 1933 to the surrender of the Japanese in 1945. Much more than an ordinary history book, it is filled with excerpts from actual wartime letters written to and by American and German troops, personal anecdotes from people who lived through the war in the United States, Germany, Britain, Russia, Hungary, and Japan, and gripping stories from Holocaust survivors-all add a humanizing global perspective to the war. This collection of 21 activities shows kids how it felt to live through this monumental period in history. They will play a rationing game or try the butter extender recipe to understand the everyday sacrifices made by wartime families. They will try their hands at military strategy in coastal defense, break a code, and play a latitude and longitude tracking game. Whether growing a victory garden or staging an adventure radio program, kids will appreciate the hardships and joys experienced on the home front.』

Buck Compton -- a great representative of not just the 101st Airborne or Easy Company, but for the whole of the Greatest Generation. I like that this book covered Buck Compton's life before during and after Band of Brothers. His greatest fault seemed to be that he cared to much for his men--that says much for his character!
This is a must read book for all WWII airborne readers. I also really gained insight into growing up in LA in the 30s and UCLA sixty years ago. I feel like I really got to know the man--Buck Compton--personally.I'm sure this is due in large part to the excellent writing and editing of the co-author, Marcus Brotherton. I'm looking forward to more from Brotherton.
I've read about every book about the Band of Brothers in Easy Company and without a doubt this one is right up there at the top--just below the book that started it all, Ambrose's "Band of Brother."』
(Continuing saga of "Band of Brothers") 『An excellent memoir of WW II written by a lead character is the history of the 101st Airborne's Easy Company.』
(Good Read, helps debunk myths from Band of Brothers...) 『This is a great book, Buck Compton goes in depth to describe the in and outs of Easy Company and also debunking myths from the series and the book. Also tells about his life as a college baseball player and after the war being a detective, district attorney and appeals judge. Definitely a good read if you are into Band of Brothers or like reading about personal stories from world war 2.』
(Yawn) 『A poorly written account from a self-absorbed man. If you must read this book wait until you see it at a garage sale for fifty cents, I'm sure that will be next weekend. Unfortunately, I paid full hardcover price for this meandering rag.
Buy David Kenyon Webster's book if you want a good read.
As for the poor man's Rush Limbaugh moniker mentioned in previous posts, as an example in this rag Mr. Compton, in typical Conservative fashion, rails on protesters as wrong thinking people, but, on the other hand believes the Revolutionary War was right. Hmm, perhaps he should have spent a bit more time at the books at UCLA, then he would know that protests and rebellion started the Revolutionary War. Perhaps Mr. Compton is still searching for that perfect war, yeech! If so, then the government should consider dropping his book over enemy lines, then we can sneak in and get them while they're fast asleep.』
(Not much substance) 『I found this book disappointing. The cover shows Buck Compton in his uniform, so I am expecting most of the book to be about his war service. As other reviews have said, there is very little in this book about Buck's war experience. I got the feeling this book was a chance for Buck to complain about the way he was portrayed in the HBO series, "Band of Brothers". He picks certain parts of the series and points out some inconsistencies, but why? Movies are never 100% true to life. He was relieved from the line and sent to the hospital. The series shows him in emotional distress but Buck says he was fine. His commanding officer obviously thought something was wrong. Buck's comments on his fellow officers can't be refuted because most of them are gone. He can't say anything bad about Dick Winters because Dick is shown in the series as a good guy and is popular today. I finally stopped reading when Buck starts complaining about Unions and the ACLU.
I enjoyed reading about Buck growing up. He certainly had some hard times. He served in some very important positions in California and has done some wonderful civil service. I just got the feeling reading this book that Buck was airing his gripes and not providing a substantive subject matter.』 『FOREWARD BY SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN: The Band of Brothers story rightly took America by storm. In telling of that remarkable generation of men who risked everything everything to defeat the evils of fascism, the tale of Easy Companys bravery and valor has inspired its own, new generation of Americans.
As rightly it should. America has relied throughout its history on the courage and honor of extraordinary citizens who, though they may come from the most ordinary of situations, stand up when duty calls them to act. TheBand of Brothers, that company of citizen- soldiers who helped our country wage and win World War II, represented that timeless virtue, the unselfish determination to serve a cause greater than our self-interest. In choosing this course, no matter its cost, an entire generation of men and womenhelped save the world from the evils of Nazism. We today, and all who follow, are in their debt.
Men and women, no matter how meager their origins or difficult their circumstances, possess within them the potential to alter the course of history. Buck Compton knew this, and this understanding shaped his life and destiny. He knew that there is no greatness without courage, no faith in country without devotion to fellows, no commitment to duty without service to others. Through his life and his words, we can find much to admire in men like him.
Second Lieutenant Compton commanded the second platoon of Easy Company in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the famed 101st Airborne Division about which so many tales are told. In an episode familiar to any viewer of theBand of Brothers series, in 1944 Buck Compton and others assaulted a German battery operating four 105 mm howitzers directed at Utah Beach, disabling the guns and routing the enemy. Buck was awarded the Silver Star for that action. Later, after being wounded in an operation aimed at seizing bridges in the Netherlands, Buck returned to his unit in time for the month-long siege that would in time become known as the Battle of the Bulge.
In the course of my military service, I have learned what its like to fight on foreign soil. When bullets begin flying and fighting grows thick, the ability of any individual to make correct decisions is sorely tested. Indecisiveness can be costly; poor judgment deadly. As this memoir so ably details, Buck Comptons performance in battle demonstrates that firmness and strategic thinking can save lives. In critical moments on the World War II battlefront, Buck Compton was there: fighting, persevering, and never relenting.
Yet Bucks story doesnt end there. He returned from war to a life of public service, measuring success not only by victories on the battlefield but also through his conduct during seasons of peace. Turning down an offer to play minor league baseball, he focused on a career in law, became a detective with the Los Angeles Police Department and, ultimately, an Associate Justice on the California Appeals Court. In reaching a level of success in civilian life commensurate with his victories in battle, Buck Compton showed us the many ways in which Americans fight for justice.
This memoir does his story the service it deserves. This book is the next best thing to having this courageous, thoughtful, and exceedingly modest hero relate in person the adventures and exploits of Easy Company, the prosecution of Sirhan Sirhan, and other tales from the life of an extraordinary American called to duty in an extraordinary time. In understanding the life of honor and service Buck Compton has bestowed upon his country, we glimpse anew the greatness that is America. US Senator John McCain Phoenix, Arizona January, 2008
The true story of an American heroin his own words.
As part of the elite 101st Airborne paratroopers, Lt. LynnBuck Compton fought in critical battles of World War II as a member of Easy Company, immortalized as the Band of Brothers.
Here, Buck Compton tells his own story for the first time. From his years as a two-sport UCLA star who played baseball with Jackie Robinson and football in the 1943 Rose Bowl, through his legendary post- World War II legal career as a prosecutor, in which he helped convict Sirhan Sirhan for the murder of Robert F. Kennedy, Buck Compton truly embodies the American Dream: college sports star, esteemed combat veteran, detective, attorney, judge.
This is the true story of a real-life hero who traveled to a faraway place and put his life on the line for the cause of freedomand an insightful memoir about courage, leadership, camaraderie, compassion, and the opportunities for success that can only happen in America.』

The tinfoil hat crowd hates this book as it tears their pet theories to shreads, but when proven wrong, they'll just spin it another way and continue their looney march. History is going to have a great laugh on these morons in the future!』
(Book Review of: Debunking 9/11 Myths: Why Conspiracy Theories Can't Stand Up to the Facts) 『Every citizen in this great nation has the right to the freedom of speech. This is not so everywhere around the world, and some nation's leaders find it easier to maintain order and obedience by negating their people of basic freedoms. The United States is different and therefore there have always been skeptics that question the government's motives and actions and sometimes that can be taken to an extreme. Anti-government conspiracy theories are often what result from such extreme perspectives. The book, Debunking 9/11 Myths, is an in-depth investigative report by "Popular Mechanics" and edited by David Dunbar and Brad Reagan, that delves into what the conspiracies are surrounding the 9/11 terrorist attacks and why they are wrong. The manner by which David Dunbar and Brad Reagan proceed with their investigation is by presenting claims and disproving them through the correct scientific method. First, they present the claim without bias or any discredit. Then, they investigate every aspect of the claim and intricately explain why each possible aspect is wrong or without evidence. One claim, for example, is that the military was capable and should have had no problem intercepting the three missing passenger jets after the first passenger jet hit the World Trade Center. Even a NORAD official was paraphrased to saying that is a regular exercise. After presenting the claim, the investigation proceeds to explain that the only instance of civilian interception by the Air Force in the decade prior to the attacks and that in that instance, it took fifty minutes for an already in-flight fighter pilot to reach the distressed plane, which had its transponder on, making it easy to locate. In the 9/11 case, the transponders were off and the Air Force did not have planes scrambled at the time. The evidence used to prove it includes statements from NORAD, reports from the National Transportation Safety Board, and reports from the FAA. The presentation of evidence for this one claim is substantial, diligent, and factual. It outweighs the evidence presented in favor of conspiracy by a long shot and proves the eagerness of conspirators to only research what they believe and not to take on all of the possibilities and evidence. This is only one of the twenty claims analyzed in the book and it is a superior and fair assessment. The book investigates twenty claims based around four primary themes. The first is whether the government used military planes or a lack there of to cause or purposefully fail to prevent the attacks. The second theme is in regards to the World Trade Center and analyzes everything from the integrity of the building, the way the planes hit, and even the damage on the ground. The third is in regards to the Pentagon and the lack of debris caused by the crash plus the fact that the holes in the Pentagon were relatively small by comparison to those in the World Trade Center. The fourth theme is in regards to United Flight 93, which has been reported by conspiracy theorists to have been shot down. Each of these events is meticulously analyzed and each conspiracy claim is torn apart by real, hard evidence produced from relentless research by Popular Mechanics. The book's format is easy to read and interesting. By simply stating a claim and providing an intricate, step by step explanation that disproves each claim completely, Popular Mechanics makes an important statement in disproving conspiracies: skepticism with unbiased and inarguable facts and evidence will always trump skepticism with bias, distrust, and premeditated expectations. The overarching message purveyed is that America is a great nation built of great people and that it is nothing but harmful to continue to dwell on conspiracies and false theories that can easily be disproven. Senator John McCain's honest and patriotic introduction to the book sets a tone that can be followed throughout. Then, after you have read why all of the conspiracies are false, James Meigs, editor in chief of Popular Mechanics, explains the "Conspiracy Industry". This afterward explains the many reasons why people jump on board to these conspiracies and relates the 9/11 conspiracies to others throughout American history including the JFK assassination and McCarthyism. The book ends with the exact account of what happened on 9/11 in three separate appendixes. Read like a transcript, the appendixes explain without any commentary exactly what transpired on that tragic morning. Debunking 9/11 Myths is a fantastic book that demands attention from anyone who has the slightest belief that the government orchestrated the attacks. For those who believe in facts and evidence, it is a testament to what good facts and scientific evidence can prove beyond any fathomable doubt. While there was no question in my mind on what happened on 9/11, this book has shown me how crazy theories and ideas can get when put into the wrong hands and how vital it is to do diligent research and find worthy evidence before believing much of anything. Popular Mechanics has proven why it is the most prestigious technical magazine and has demonstrated the worthiness of its work through this insightful book. 』
(Great Job) 『This bookseller always does a great job. The product(s) always arrive in the condition advertised and on time.』
(Right on, with real facts.) 『In reading other reviews criticizing the book, I'm come to the obvious conclusion that they are mostly 'truthers'. Given the fact that none of them have offered any physical counter-evidence of the actual accounts in here, one is obligated to conclude that they found no flaw or could not disprove any of it. But I'm not here to convince the Truthers, once you go conspiracy theorist you never go back...
Popular Mechanics did NOT write this book for political reasons (thank God), and has stood only by what the PHYSICAL evidence says. Political ramifications are for you to decide, not them. Each case is gone through thoroughly, with many experts and eye-witnesses. The theories are gathered from various, tinfoil-hat 'truth' sites, to the hilariously disinformed copy-paste movie Loose Change. WTC7 wasn't blown up, no missle hit the Pentagon, no bombs in the towers, ans no jet shot down the plane in Shanksville. These facts cannot be denied, the fault of 9/11 lies mostly in government ineptness. Physical evidence shows it impossible to be an inside job.
And in the words of Ron Paul "...sometimes when [people] find ineptness in government, its easy to make a giant leap over into conspiracy, and they do it on purpose." 12/18/07
Highly recommended book. Question everything folks, but when the evidence is shown let it go.』
(Great book) 『Sadly, a few years after it's publishing, this book is still relevant. The conspiracy points presented here still frequent American conspiracy boards/blogs/sites. And of course, this book is entertaining as all hell. Doubtless, this review will be subsequently swarmed and downvoted by shadowy internet conspiracy people. Still, it's important to note for everyone who did not read this book that a major theme of it is that the destruction of the WTC and Pentagon are some of the most scholarly researched events in American history, by private researchers from universities and various other organizations. The NIST cited some of this private research in their own publications, so although some of the information is from NIST, it is not all "the government's story". Plenty of scientists have been involved in published and peer-reviewed studies surrounding 9/11 which are inconsistent with that of Alex Jones and other conspiracy theorists (hence why many of these organizations are rarely mentioned in favor of claiming that non-governmental studies have been suppressed). Please read the first-hand lit for yourself if you doubt it. I only encourage people to think for themselves and debate logically.
