(Man Poisons Family)

(Mixed feelings on the movie about my mothers murder)
It's about this man who poisons his Ex-wives and his mother with homeade Peach Ice Cream. all because he takes out alot of money on their insurance policies. After they die,he Creamates them. What a creep!
Harry does a good Steve Catlin, although Harry is more attractive. He really captured Steves charm and deception. I remember going to those races with Steve and my mother. Faith Ford as my mother, well that is hard for my impartial about. I thought Helen's performance was wonderful. The story is quite accurately told. The movie itself is done pretty good. I was impressed overall. Thank you Edie for insisting on justice. This is worth seeing.

("Stand by Me"--a must-see!!!)

(Nostalgia, almost...)

(The BEST movie about the "growing up" years!)

(Great memories...)

(2.5 stars out of 4)
I ordered the DVD of the movie, "Stand By Me". I had seen this movie in the theater, back in the '80s, with my sister, Eva Cassidy---the wonderful singer who died in 1996 from cancer......
Eva and I LOVED this movie, and us watching it together in the theater is a wonderful memory I will have forever.......
This movie delves deeply into the hearts, minds, and souls of these youngsters. It is at times funny, and then heart-breaking, and most people who watch this movie will recall their own childhoods.
This movie is one you will want to watch again and again, which is why I bought the DVD in the first place!
This movie was directed by Rob Reiner, and was based on a story by Stephen King--need I say more?!!!
Buy this for yourself--you will not be disappointed!

I'm a baby-boomer that has seen and enjoyed this movie many times. I have read a number of reviews complaining about the profanity of the four boys. I lived for over 20 years across the street from a grade school and, believe me, boys that age (and even younger) DO enjoy tossing profanity around when teachers or adults aren't around, and many of them are quite adept at smoking cigarettes, too. (In this day and age, little girls are just as likely to do so.) Back in the 50's, though, I can't recall hearing boys or girls using the f-bomb as these kids did in the movie. That word didn't gain popularity until later...Just an observation.
"Stand By Me" is the BEST movie ever made about the "growing up" years, when one is about 13 years old. Think of it as sort of a "Wonder Years" of the big screen. All the young actors gave AMAZING performances, but I have to say that River Phoenix's is the standout.

It's a tragedy how the River Phoenix story ended. Such a TALENTED young actor. Who knows what movies he would be making today. Perhaps he would be as big a star as Johnny Depp is. I think he would.

Rob Reiner has directed FOUR films I consider to be CLASSICS. These are "This Is Spinal Tap", "When Harry Met Sally", "Misery" and of course, "Stand By Me". I must mention what I think are the two best scenes in this movie.

The first (and best) is the "pie story" Gordie tells by the campfire. CLASSIC! The second is the "train dodge" by Gordie and Vern on the trestle.

If you want to see a pre "24" Kiefer Sutherland, check him out here.

"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was twelve. Does anyone?"

This is a classic and a must have to any DVD collection. Brings back memories of the good old days and youth. It is the adventure which molded their lives forever.
The Bottom Line:

A maudlin movie which coasts on a wave of pure nostalgia to its shattering anti-climax of a conclusion, Stand By Me is inexplicably beloved despite being a completely forgettable film: unless you happen to love the song Lollipop or want to see lots of boys crying and hugging, stay away.

A sleeper hit when released in 1986,Stand by Meis based on Stephen King's novella "The Body" (from the bookDifferent Seasons); but it's more about the joys and pains of boyhood friendship than a morbid fascination with corpses. It's about four boys ages 12 and 13 (Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell) who take an overnight hike through the woods near their Oregon town to find the body of a boy who's been missing for days. Their journey includes a variety of scary adventures (including a ferocious junkyard dog, a swamp full of leeches, and a treacherous leap from a train trestle), but it's also a time for personal revelations, quiet interludes, and the raucous comradeship of best friends. Set in the 1950s, the movie indulges an overabundance of anachronistic profanity and a kind of idealistic, golden-toned nostalgia (it's told in flashback as a story written by Wheaton's character as an adult, played by Richard Dreyfuss). But it's delightfully entertaining from start to finish, thanks to the rapport among its young cast members and the timeless, universal themes of friendship, family, and the building of character and self-esteem. Kiefer Sutherland makes a memorable teenage villain, and look closely for John Cusack in a flashback scene as Wheaton's now-deceased and dearly missed brother. A genuine crowd-pleaser, this heartfelt movie led director Rob Reiner to even greater success with his next film,The Princess Bride.--Jeff Shannon

(Back to The Future)

(This editions review (not of the movie, of the extras))

(Great Scott!)

(let's hope there's more to come!!)

(Just one extra disc and poor widescreen)
I have Back To the Future Dvd(double disc,2nd disc with special features) I should have brought the trilogy but I got the special edition, However, I can't Complain, The Movie is awesome, I grew up to this movie as a child of the eighties, and is one of the best movies of the Era.
On this release of the great BTTF movie, you get a 2 disc edition with extra features never released on DVD, nor even on the 4 disc region 4 release.

Obviously the movie is there, it was always good quality and great 5.1 sound on the rest of the editions, and nothing has changed for this one. Now included is a whole heap of new extras.

There is an Audio Commentary from Bob Gale and Niel Canton. It is an actual commentary now, not just the Q&A audio that played to the movie, or separately as audio depending on which edition you had, that other one is still on here, but this 2nd commentary is brand new, not a re-run.

As far as I can tell, all the extras from the other editions are still here. I own a heap of copies of different releases for this movie, and I get a little confused with what was on what; but I know the American fans will be pleased that extra deleted scenes that where only viewable on the region 4 bonus disc (4th disc) are now included in this release.
In particular, the full version of the scene when Doc is asked if he has a permit, and Marty wonders if he will go home gay. It's a great and funny scene.

Also included is the footage of the back to the future ride that used to be at Universal Studios. I went on that ride in 1993, and it was great to see it again. It has two videos for the ride, the first one is the video you would watch while waiting in line for the ride. It's like a news cast and security camera video telling you about Doc's 1 day ride into the future (fictional) and the second video is what you actually saw when on the ride as you chase Biff Tannin through time. Just take not that the ride itself, you sat in a 6 seat Delorean and it moved and rocked around, so it may lose some translation while your sitting on your butt.

If your not particularly interested in bonus features at all, and just watch the thing for the movie, then there is no reason to pick this version up. If you are like me, and love anything you can find of BTTF, you will enjoy this one. It's not just another cash-in release, it does actually have brand new features to enjoy.

In 1985, Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) asks Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox), a high school teenager, to meet him at the local mall for a late night science experiment. When Marty shows up, he sees Doc backing a Delorean out from a van. But this just isn't any Delorean. This Delorean has been modified into a time machine. As Doc begins to explain how it all works, a group of terrorists that Doc stole some uranium from, show up and begin to wreak havoc. Marty jumps in the car and floors it after witnessing Doc getting shot. But as soon as Marty hits the magic number of 88mph, he is shot back in time to 1955. While trying to figure out how to get back to 1985, he screws up the first time his parents meet, which begins the slow cycle of his brother, his sister, and even himself to slowly fade away from existence. Marty must figure out a way to get the time machine to work again and also somehow get his popular mom to fall in love with is geeky father so he can get back tothe future.

Talk about a movie that just never gets old. Almost all the laughs are still funny. From the barn scene, to the first time Marty meets his mom as a teenager, to the skateboarding/poop scene. Back to the Future really is just a very fun movie. I think I was smiling almost through the whole thing and I've had to have seen this movie over 20 times by now. I think almost everyone has wished they could go back in time, but who really thinks about going back to hang with their parents. After seeing this movie, it might really be fun to do just that. We know Marty's mom preaches about how girls shouldn't chase guys and things, but when we see her at a younger age, she is doing exactly what she forbids her own children from doing. And when he comes across his dad, he finds out things that he never knew his dad was interested in. And then of course we have Doc Brown, who Christopher Lloyd played perfectly. His antics, and screams, facial expressions, and over the topness were done just right. What a great character. And Michael J. Fox also plays Marty McFly just right to. To think that Eric Stoltz almost played Marty McFly. Thankfully the director thought he just didn't fit the part and refilmed it with Fox.

Honestly, I could go on and on and on about this movie and just tell the whole story. But what fun would that be. Just own this movie.

P.S. - I love watching old 80's flicks and seeing all the stuff that was cool back then. Also I really like seeing old advertisements or signs. Like the Pepsi symbol back then. Classic stuff.

I've always been a "sucker" for packaging; with most things, it's kind of illogical, like groceries, that you (ideally) shouldn't even be looking at more than 6 (brief) times a day...but with entertainment items, I, for one, who values entertainment highly, think the packaging is important, b/c, face it: you're not gonna spend the majority of the time in which you own the item(s) actually USING them/it are you? Heck no! So that's where the pkging comes in handy, if you have your music/movies/books/whatever displayed prominently like I do and can/do look at them once in a while or more often...
Sad to say though that sometime around 1997 or so, it seems, the packaging for movies has become EXTREMELY lame; I mean, for cryin' out loud, you can barely tell one movie apart from the next! You have to actually read the synopsis for each and every film that comes out in order to have ANY interest in it. But why would I, or anyone, read a synopsis for a movie that I'm not already interested in?
Well, anyway; BTTF spent the longest time not available to purchase on its own, which to me was a drawback for buying ANY of the Back To The Future movies. I liked the imagery in BTTFpt1, the mall parking lot setting especially, and the 2nd one I actually haven't seen in ages, but the 3rd one, if I understand correctly, took place in the desert mostly, which is the most boring setting I can think of.
I actually emailed Universal about 5 years ago, asking them when/if they re-release Halloween II and/or An American Tail to restore the original cover-art. Well, they apparently haven't even re-issued those two movies, but I guess we're finally starting to see eye to eye...well, I sorta doubt it, but I can dream can't I?

I'm not very happy at this item.

First off, they say its wide screen. Well, instead of seeing what was cut off along the sides, they blew the original picture up so that it now cuts off what's on the top and bottoms.

There's no extra stuff on Disc 1, not even the Cigarette Commercial, and disc 2 is okay, but still this wasn't what I expected.

Dr. Emmett Brown: Then tell me, "future boy," who is president in the United States in 1985?
Marty McFly: Ronald Reagan.
Dr. Brown: Ronald Reagan? The actor?! Who's vice president? Jerry Lewis?

Filmmaker Robert Zemeckis topped his breakaway hitRomancing the Stonewith this joyous comedy with a dazzling hook: what would it be like to meet your parents in their youth? Billed as a special-effects comedy, the imaginative film (the top box-office smash of 1985) has staying power because of the heart behind Zemeckis and Bob Gale's script. High schooler Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox, during the height of his TV success) is catapulted back to the '50s where he sees his parents in their teens, and accidentally changes the history of how Mom and Dad met. Filled with the humorous ideology of the '50s, filtered through the knowledge of the '80s (actor Ronald Reagan is president, ha!), the film comes off as aTwilight Zoneepisode written by Preston Sturges. Filled with memorable effects and two wonderfully off-key, perfectly cast performances: Christopher Lloyd as the crazy scientist who builds the time machine (a DeLorean luxury car) and Crispin Glover as Marty's geeky dad. Followed by two sequels.--Doug Thomas

(Better than expected)

(Amazing, must see! Very chilling.)

(Incredible Supernatural Thriller)
Once you get past the low budget feel, the story itself is very interesting with some surprising twists. You have to try to look past some of the acting (which is actually kind of comical), although the main characters do a good job. The first 15-20 minutes I spent laughing at some of the acting and the "soap opera feel," but after that really got hooked to the story and had quite a twist of an ending! If you love supernatural movies, you gotta see it!
Amazing, a must see for fans of suspense and horror. Very Chilling. This one totally gets under your skin. I recommend it highly.
Death is the end. Period. Or is it? In this riveting supernatural thriller, one desperate woman will encounter ties that bind from beyond the grave. "I¹ll come back," vows terminally ill Michael Darrow (Tim Palcic) with his last breath. His widow Alice (Stephanie Colet) shrugs this off as the ravings of a sick man, but soon, she begins to suspect that her dead husband is trying to contact her. He swore they¹d to be together forever, no matter what. And when Alice falls in love with another man (Wendell Willat), Michael exacts a chilling revenge so he can keep his wife all to himself by any means necessary!

(BORN GOOD!)

(ALL GOOD!)

(Darn GOOD!)

(Wow!)

(Born Bad is all good)
This film impressed me with the tense plot and excellent acting from a relatively unknown cast. Corey Feldman is hysterical. The squemish might want to fast-forward through a disturbing scene where a woman gets her finger chopped in a paper cutter! Overall, I really enjoyed this picture.
I really enjoyed watching this video. The actors were all really strong. I was surprised how good Corey Feldman is, and I haven't liked him since"Stand By Me."This picture deals with teens who rob a bank and essentially every thing that can go wrong does. The paper cutter scene is awesome...worthy of Hitchcock himself."Born Bad"is"all good."
Corey Feldman is hilarious in this movie. I thought that all the clever plot twists and turns were great. The last half hour is intense. Although I didn't recognize some of the actors, I thought they all did a really good job. Definitely worth seeing!
I think this action-drama was GREAT!
At the end its really tense and I just shaked the last 15 minutes. Even if the end wasnt as good as you would like, it was still wort seeing it.
And I think the actors did a great job, even if they warent famous.

Sure to be a cult classic! This gripping teen crime drama got so intense at one point that my girlfriend squeezed the circulation out of my hand! Corey Feldman is funnier than I have ever seen him. The non-stop tension makes this picture worth buying on DVD. You will thank me later.

(Dated as of Now)
From the jump, this work says it was a PBS show on October 14, 2008, aka a few weeks before the 2008 elections. Imagine watching "Return of the Jedi" but not seeing when Darth Vader destroys the Emperor. What if you saw "Titanic" and didn't learn what happened to the Heart of the Ocean? That is how this work feels; it's like a body with its head cut off.
They don't really speak about the 2008 election until the second hour of the work. The first explores the candidates' biographies. You see photos of Obama at Harvard Law. You see McCain as a POW. We also learn that McCain has dark chest hair, much different from Obama who is smooth. The Keating Five, Reverend Wright, and other highlights come up.
Still, I would have done this differently. To me, Sarah Palin played a significant, and some would say polarizing, role in the election, but she is only mentioned here briefly and at the tail end of the work. Obama made a speech about race, but this work says nothing about Romney's speech on religion, which was important. Actually, the other candidates besides Hillary Clinton barely come up at all. The issue of McCain's age is not mentioned here, when I'd say it was a factor that voters pondered.
In short, this work was meant to help voters decide what they would do in November of 2008. Well, that was months ago and we know who the winner of the contest was. (Hip-hop hooray!, in my opinion) So this will feel dated even if it was well made for its first airing.

One of the most memorable presidential races in decades pits the iconoclast John McCain against the newcomer Barack Obama; a heroic former prisoner of war against the first African-American major party nominee. The 20th anniversary broadcast of "The Choice" examines the personal and political biographies of these men and goes behind headlines to discover how they arrived at this moment and what their very different candidacies say about America.

(Under Fire)

(What we do, and how we do it)

(Still Waiting...)

(This is Reality Folks!)

(memorable photography)
Very good book which reports the true feelings of the Men and Women involved in Vietnam. Vert well put together.
Catherine stops the action with a great sense of timing. I'm not sure how she does it, but to show violence, heart break, and compassion is incrediable. As a Marine who was on Hill 484 where she took photos, Catherine gets it right. A must read for those who weren't there, her book explains the madness some call a political extension and others call war. Not for the squemish or the undecided, her photos show real people doing what they must to survive. About as real as you can get, and not be there that instant.
Semper Fidelis

In no way would I ever take away from the effort and images that most of the photographers mentioned in this book accomplished. What I have always found disheartening (in this book and all previous books published of Vietnam photographs) is the fact that these photographers were pretty much first "shown the ropes" by military combat photographers that were in country. Many military combat photographers on many occasions saved these journalists' asses that were good photographers but were dumber than dirt in a combat zone. I'm still waiting for the book to be published using images of Vietnam by combat photographers that are filed away somewhere in the Dept of Defense archives.
I first met Catherine Leroy on the Bien Hoa airfield as the 173D Airborne Brigade prepared for Operation Junction City, the only parachute assult of that war. A diminutive blonde French woman, barely in her twenties, Ms Leroy was tough as nails and "cute as a button". I managed to take a photograph of her rigged in her parachute and "armed" with a pair if Leika cameras just before we boarded our aircraft (see the insert inside the back of the dust cover). Cathe was a no nonsense professional then as she is now. She and her colleagues have done a magnificent job of portraying the reality of war. "Under Fire" is a must read, not only for veterans of all wars but, especially for those other souls who have not experienced the realities of combat. Through first rate up close and personal photography, with associated narrative and comment, Cathe and her "band of brothers" have brought "great dignity to what might otherwise be viewed as a vulgar brawl". "5 - Star"
This is an important book. The photographs will haunt and amaze you. It's hard to imagine people could get that close to the action. You believe for a moment that you are actually there witnessing it.
In Under Fire, one of the most daring combat photographers of the Vietnam War, Catherine Leroy, pairs her work and that of other acclaimed photographers-–among them Larry Burrows, Henri Huet, and Don McCullin–with moving, evocative essays from an equally stellar roster of writers, including David Halberstam, Philip Caputo, Neil Sheehan, and Tim O’Brien.

Captured in the collected photographs is the full emotional spectrum of war. Through the camera’s eye, we see the war from both the combatants’ perspective and that of the Vietnamese civilians, for whom the conflict was a constant and horrendous backdrop. Some of the photographs are well known, verging on the iconic, others are less well circulated but no less evocative. All make indelible impressions on the viewer–perhaps more so now than when they were taken, thirty to fifty years ago.

The essays accompanying the photographs tell us about what happened to the photos’ subjects, both when the shutter captured them and since; about the challenges facing the photographers in the heat of battle; and how, in some cases, the photographers changed history by bringing Vietnam’s senseless violence to ordinary Americans’ doorsteps, thereby helping turn public opinion against the war.

Published to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of Saigon, Under Fireis a potent, often poignant reminder of the men and women whose work helped forge the collective memory of a generation.

(This book can help anyone make better decisions)

("Oddball" McCain reveals some very personal quirks!)

(a must read for everyone)

(The Art of the Hard Call)

(Hard Calls and Good History)
"Hard Call" isn't just a book by a politician to advance his career. It's a powerful work that can help anyone make better decisions in his or her own life. John McCain, with the help of Mark Salter, discusses a number of factors that should be considered when evaluating a decision, and what he thinks are the most important ingredients in making the best choices for ourselves and for others. I was greatly impressed by the degree to which he has considered this question. Whether one agrees with his decisions or not, it is certainly praiseworthy that he has invested this much energy into considering the art of decision-making. His intellect and his analytical powers are extraordinary. I also appreciated the wide variety of people, male and female, whom he uses as examples of fine or not-so-fine decision-makers. There are examples from politics and the military, as we might expect, but also from such areas as the sports world, science, and retail. The book is excellently researched and certainly educational. McCain even discusses decisions he himself has made that he considers flawed, and the lessons he learned from them. In addition, I enjoyed the flow of the writing style. This is a book that will stay with you for a long time.
John McCain is quite an interesting man, and this first person account was fascinating. I was surprised to read that McCain puts aside 35 minutes each day to tap dance, and follows a diet consisting entirely of tangerines. And who would have thought McCain wears the very same pair of "lucky" underpants every day, except for his "Sunday pants." I was hoping that McCain would have gone into more depth about his year-long relationship with Edith Piaf in the late 1930s, but I guess there's always the next one! Great book!
With all of the biased coverage of news these days, it is important to find information to give balance to the whole picture. This book, with its choices of material, is an excellent example of what a person needs to read to help form opinions and delve through all of the "stuff" that bombards us daily. Add it to your list of "must reads" today, and enjoy it all!
John McCain's "Hard Call: The Art of Great Decisions" reveals the essential character qualities required to make the "Hard Call" by retelling stories of great decision makers, past and present. I learned many new things about the character of people like Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Abe Lincoln, and many others. As McCain illuminates the character qualities each of these people displayed in their great decisions, we get a glimpse at the character of the author as well.
Certainly the timing of this book's release and its review of tough decision making are not coincidental to John McCain's presidential campaign. This does not detract from its value. As do Barack Obama's books (for example, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance), it tells us what a political leader wants us to know about his view of the world. To McCain and Slater, decision making is characterized by Awareness, Foresight, Timing, Confidence, Humility and Inspiration. These qualities are examined through 20 case studies, including Gerald Ford's decision to pardon Richard Nixon and the efforts of Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat to achieve peace between their countries.

The book's structure presents some choices. First, it can be read as ordered, with a discussion of each aspect of leadership followed by historical examples. It runs a little long this way, though. I listened to it as an audio book and felt like I was trudging though history on foot. Worth the walk, but quite a trek.

Readers with more selective interests might sample just the stories that intrigue or that fill gaps in their historical knowledge. It is worthwhile to learn about the history of Liberia or experience another perspective on Alexander Graham Bell's inventiveness. Each of the 20 decision scenarios is a self-contained story, which facilitates such picking and choosing.

Finally, readers eager to examine John McCain's leadership style can confine themselves to the book's introduction, and to the introductory chapters in each of the six sections. These chapters point to the kind of decisions he admires, what he has learned from them, and how he--and we--can make decisions like them. Whether you agree with him or not, his brand of decision making is made plain to be understood and evaluated.

At some point in our lives, we all face tough decisions and have to make that hard call. In this remarkable book, Senator McCain and Mark Salter use experiences of both extraordinary people and people in extraordinary circumstances to dramatically describe the anatomy of a great decision. Highlights include:
- Henry Ford's decision to sacrifice his company's competitive edge by reducing the work day and guaranteeing a minimum wage.
- Branch Rickey's decision to offer Jackie Robinson a contract to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers in the face of public opposition.
- Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf 's decision to return to wartorn Liberia after receiving an economics degree from Harvard.
- General Fred Weyand's decision to redeploy fifteen of his battalions despite resistance from senior American military commanders in Vietnam.
- And much more.

(Common Sense Vote)

(I don't know, Alaska ...)
I recived my McCain Palin Black T-Shirt and will wear it until common sense prvails and McCain is electd.

I really get envious and excited looks in my neighborhood when I go around in my McCain-Palin T-shirt. It may look simple, but it has a message that is irrefutably about hope, change and patriotism!

My only complaint about the T-Shirt is that I wish it would read Palin-McCain because many of us are excited about of this ticket because of Palin - she is way too cool and smart.

Fun Facts: Did you know you can see Russia from Alaska? Or that Alaska is the biggest state in the union?

Show your support for the Mccain Palin ticket with this standard cotton short sleeve t-shirt in black featuring the Mccain Palin 2008 logo with flag. Great t-shirt for supporters of Mccain Palin.
