Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (I can only speak to one track) 『I have an odd hobby: I collect recorded versions of"Au Fond Du Temple Saint"the duet from"The Pearl Fishers"by Bizet. My only comment is that while Mr. Watson may have a passable voice, his rendition of"Au Fond Du Temple Saint is abominable. Not only has he egotistically attempted to sing both parts of a Tenor/Baritone duet, he has used an arrangement that destroys the beauty of the song. On top of all of that, the final climactic line in which the two friends pledge to be such even to death has been altered, for God knows what reason to mean something else alltogether. If you are a fan of Mr. Watson, you no doubt will like this CD. If, on the other hand you are a fan of the music that he sings, you may have a different opinion.』
(Wowed again!!!) 『This CD is just further proof of Russell's amazing ability to make fantastic whatever he wants to sing. The Pearl Fishers duet is the most wonderful, powerful rendition I have heard. Core 'ngrato is so charged with emotion. I cannot get enough of Russell Watson. This is one not to be missed. I also have the US version, which has the most beautiful songs on, but this CD has more songs on, and is one not to be missed.
Love it...

(Another Great Effort!) 『Having greatly enjoyed Mr. Watson's recordings in the past, I was waiting with anticipation for the Reprise CD. It was worth the wait, and we love this CD!
I have noticed several negative reviews about this CD. After scrolling through the 250 plus reviews, I noticed that dozens of negative (1 star) reviews are from the same person! Obviously, this"A Music Fan"has a personal vendetta against Russell Watson and is trying to skew the rating results. Just my observation.』
(Really worth 5 Stars!) 『It's really worth the 5 stars, because it has some of the best singing by one of the brightest new singers around today.
Here's some of my faves:
"Nothing Sacred" (his great single, of course), "That's Amore" (one of the best versions I've heard in years), "Ave Maria" (you feel like your in a huge cathedral), "Core `ngrato" (very romantic, even though it's classical) "the Living Years" (Sooo sad), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (cool), and "the Best That Love Can Be" (you'll be amazed at Russell's voice).
17 brilliant tracks, so-BUY IT NOW.』
(Exciting, wonderful CD) 『This CD is one of the most exciting, high energy recordings ever put out by Watson. Included is probably the"gassiest"version EVER of "Bohemian Rhapsody". This song ROCKS with Watson's hard hitting vocals, delivering all his trademark POW, and then some! His "The Living Years" is a haunting and thought-provoking treatment of a beautifully done song. "That's Amore", "Ave Maria", "La danza", "Granada", "the Pearl Fishers' Duet", and "the Best That Love Can Be" will give you an idea of what a tremendous talent Watson is.
The sound is tremendous, the mixdown topnotch, and this performance deserves a lot more attention than it gets in the USA.』
『International version of his third album features three additional tracks (17 total) plus seven tracks that are not on the US version, 'Thats Amore', 'Ave Maria', 'Questa O Quella', 'Nothing Sacred, 'Pourquoi Me Reveiller', 'I Dont Know How I Got By' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody'. The US edition has four tracks that are not on here. It began with 'The Voice'...It was followed by 'Encore'...now, Russell Watson returns with his stunning third album 'Reprise'. Effortlessly gliding through his trademark assortment of operatic arias and popular ballads, Russell's fantastic voice just seems to get stronger and stronger. The many highlights include a powerful version of Bizet's 'Pearl-Fishers' duet, Schubert's 'Ave Maria' and a wonderful arrangement of Dean Martin's 'That's Amore'. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and Mike And The Mechanics hit 'Living Years' round off what is without doubt his most polished』 『Another Grand Selection from the Red Haired Tenor with Songs from Opera, Theatre and the Pop Charts. Includes his Rendition of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"!!』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Still My All-Time Favorite Movie) 『I first saw this movie when I was 7 years old. I'm 29 now, and it is still my all-time favorite movie. A wonderful movie about boyhood friendship and the different problems that each kid faces in his home life or in social situations. Four boys set off on a journey to find the body of a dead kid, but it's much more than that. The movie is about the camaraderie of the boys and the problems that each one faces. Chris, the leader of the gang, comes from a family with a bad reputation and therefor is labeled bad by the other people in the town. Gordie is a kid who is coping with the death of his own brother, but more than that, the lack of a relationship between him and his father. Teddy has a dad who is very abusive because he suffers mental problems from his experiences in WWII. Vern is kind of the social outcast. Certainly not one of the most popular kids in school.
Now, about some of the other reviews I have read and you may have read yourself: First of all, let me start by saying that if you're a self-esteem movement parent and can't stand curse words because they greatly offend you, stay away from this movie. This movie is very realistic. Believe it or not, 12 year-old kids swear, get over it. My friends and I swore long before that, but we never did it in front of adults. We didn't do it because we saw it in movies. We did it to act rebellious and thought it made us look older than we were, just like every other 12 year-old kid. These kids in the movie are just like any other 12 year-old boys. So do not use this movie as a scapegoat. Like I said, just get over the fact that 12 year-old boys do swear.
Second of all, this is NOT a chick flick like a couple of reviewers have said. Yes, this is not an action-packed Die Hard type movie, but that doesn't make it a chick flick. I'm a guy. All my friends like this movie, guys and girls, and none of the guys ever called it a chick flick. It's no more of a chick flick than the movie Rudy, which I have never heard of receiving that accusation. If you're that insecure in your masculinity, then please just stay away from the movie.
As long as the last two things I mentioned don't apply to you, order the movie right now!』
(Lacks The Character Development Of King's Novella) 『In the novella "The Body" written by Stephen King that this film is based upon, a group of boys set out to find a local dead body, and end up finding more out about themselves than anything. Along the way, master wordsmith King is able to develop each and every character to a point where readers can really care for or sympathize with their problems or successes.
In this film version, "Stand By Me", though, that incredible character development is lacking. I realize I am a bit "tainted", as I know what I was missing, but suffice it to say that after the novella experience, the film just seemed to lack that extra "oomph" to turn it into any sort of classic.
Of course, I probably am expecting the impossible in this situation, as director Rob Reiner likely did everything he could to develop four very different young men in the span of only 88 minutes, but just that limitation alone drags the story down a bit. Whereas King (as he is known to do) can, in a very in-depth fashion, probe the personal lives of each of his characters, Reiner is restricted to a series of flashbacks that just don't have the same emotional connection with the viewer as King does with the reader.
Now, don't get me wrong...I don't think that this is a bad film by any stretch of the word. If you have not read the novella, I think you might be inclined to give it another star in the rating column (don't expect "classic" status, though). However, if you (like I was) are looking for faces to be put to King's classic characters, locations, and themes, then you will likely be a bit disappointed, as "Stand By Me" fails to carry that mantra like some others have (including "The Shawshank Redemption", a classic movie based on a story in the same collection as "The Body").』
(Awesome!!!!) 『The movie "Stand By Me" was a film based off the novel by Stephen King known as "The Body." But for all who have seen it, you may notice it doesn't seem like the Stephen King type, I mean compare it to "The Shining" or "It," this is a family flick with an R rating. I mean don't get me wrong, it's got a lot of adult content throughout the film like Chris (River Phoenix) swiping a loaded gun from his wasted dad, Ace (Kiefer Sutherland) almost stabbing Chris in the throat, Gordie (Wil Wheaton) threating to shoot Ace with the gun, the kids smoking, most of the characters constantly muttering bad swears, you know the rest. The part that most of the viewers out there including I, made us pee our pants was the train scene which Teddy (Corey Feldman) declares "the all-time train dodge." Aw, Speaking of Teddy I love that little guy! He's not afraid of nothin', he wasn't afraid to cross an old 100 foot bridge, he wasn't afraid to dodge an on-coming train, and he almost joined the army, what an awesome dude. And Vern (Jerry O' Connell) a little chubby kid who is afraid of everything, unlike Teddy. If you must know the plot it's about 4 12 year olds who set out to find a dead body and bring it back and become heroes. The emotional scenes make you realize that they have horrible lives in a small town, and by the end, you feel glad that they get out of their town. And if I could add a new scene it would be the boys encounter a vicious animal like a wolverine or a coyote and the grab the gun and blow it away. Oh well the rest of the movie was very entertaining! The set up to when the boys find the missing corpse keeps you anticipating it. Complete with a terrific music score which you may recognize from George Lucas's classic "American Graffiti." So overall, it's a great movie, so definitely see it, if you have it. If you don't then rent it, buy it, it's worth it! RIP River Phinoex :)』
(Good Coming of Age Movie for Boys) 『I bought this movie for my hubby for Father's Day this year because he loved it as a kid. He has now seen it with our 2 boys who are 3 and 5 a couple times. The boys like it because your in search of a dead bod, but as they get older they will get the whole growing up part of it as well.』
("Stand by Me"--a must-see!!!) 『I ordered the DVD of the movie, "Stand By Me". I had seen this movie in the theater, back in the '80s, with my sister, Eva Cassidy---the wonderful singer who died in 1996 from cancer...... Eva and I LOVED this movie, and us watching it together in the theater is a wonderful memory I will have forever....... This movie delves deeply into the hearts, minds, and souls of these youngsters. It is at times funny, and then heart-breaking, and most people who watch this movie will recall their own childhoods. This movie is one you will want to watch again and again, which is why I bought the DVD in the first place! This movie was directed by Rob Reiner, and was based on a story by Stephen King--need I say more?!!! Buy this for yourself--you will not be disappointed!』 『A sleeper hit when released in 1986,Stand by Meis based on Stephen King's novella "The Body" (from the bookDifferent Seasons); but it's more about the joys and pains of boyhood friendship than a morbid fascination with corpses. It's about four boys ages 12 and 13 (Wil Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell) who take an overnight hike through the woods near their Oregon town to find the body of a boy who's been missing for days. Their journey includes a variety of scary adventures (including a ferocious junkyard dog, a swamp full of leeches, and a treacherous leap from a train trestle), but it's also a time for personal revelations, quiet interludes, and the raucous comradeship of best friends. Set in the 1950s, the movie indulges an overabundance of anachronistic profanity and a kind of idealistic, golden-toned nostalgia (it's told in flashback as a story written by Wheaton's character as an adult, played by Richard Dreyfuss). But it's delightfully entertaining from start to finish, thanks to the rapport among its young cast members and the timeless, universal themes of friendship, family, and the building of character and self-esteem. Kiefer Sutherland makes a memorable teenage villain, and look closely for John Cusack in a flashback scene as Wheaton's now-deceased and dearly missed brother. A genuine crowd-pleaser, this heartfelt movie led director Rob Reiner to even greater success with his next film,The Princess Bride.--Jeff Shannon』

『Enjoy a look at a fascinating variety of homes and the creative people who built them! Discover how passive solar design and environmentally low-impact materials can be used to create comfortable and economical homes. See the use of both traditional materials, such as adobe, and innovative materials, such as papercrete and sandbags.
The program begins with an overview of the basic tenets of sustainable architecture. Passive solar design and the use of natural, local, and/or recycled building materials are emphasized.
Building with earth is demonstrated by visits to an adobe block house, an Islamic cultural center made of vaults of adobe, a unique and artistic hut-like house made of piled adobe, and a rammed earth house under construction. The process of building and the nature of the material is described by the people who have done the work.
Various straw bale houses are shown. Both load-bearing and non load-bearing methods are described, with particular attention to the use of natural stucco materials and the need to keep the building skins breathable. A charming dome hermitage made of straw bales is described by both the builder/architect and the resident.
Techniques for earth-sheltering are demonstrated: there is a visit to an earthship under construction. Then a "gallery" of completed earthships accompanied by music provides a break from the technical discussion. A lovely cordwood/earth-sheltered home is described by the owner/builder. A dug-out kiva in the desert, and a unique technique for creating thin-shelled concrete domes with a rotating sectional mold, complete this section on earth-sheltering.
Papercrete, a new building material made with recycled paper and cement, is discussed by two different people who "invented" it. Homes and experimental buildings using this material are shown.
Earthbag (sandbag) building has been gaining popularity. The polypropylene bags can be filled with a variety of earthen materials and then stacked to form walls in the shape of domes or vertical walls. A visit to the dome house of a woman who built it with her grandson is fascinating. The beginning of a dome house created by the producer of this program shows one of these unique structures under construction.
The use of hybrid techniques is demonstrated by an owner/builder who made a round house with conventional wood framing and used straw bales for insulation.
The final section shows the use of existing containers as a shell for a house with the producer's wife taking the viewer on a tour of their bus conversion motorhome.

(80's Movies Fan) 『TEX was a great Movie,I own THE DVD..A must See IF You're Matt Dillon's Fan :)
』
(Well made and sincere coming of age movie) 『Tex is a 15 year old Oklahoma farm boy with more than his fair share of problems .He is being raised by his elder brother in the absence of parents -his mother is dead and his father simply walks away from domestic responsibility .the movie is about how this personable and engaging -but not over bright -teenager strives to make sense of his world .It examines the pains and perils of growing up and Tex 's family life is not a bed of roses .The movie treats of themes untypical of Disney productions --booze, sex, fighting ,class distinction and economic problems ,school problems and the sudden need to grow up and assume responsibility more quickly than most . This is both the appeal and the problem of the movie-it is an adult look at children's lives and treats the issues seriously ,but tries to cram too much into a brief running time .Consequently the picture feels slightly overcooked and issue heavy . Still it is splendidly acted especially by Matt Dillon as Tex and by Meg tilly as his girl friend This is awarm hearted but not a sappy movie and its honesty ,sincerity and skill commend it to me ,but a little less plot would have made it better』
(living in bixby, ok.) 『it was such fun to go back and see how much bixby has changed in 24 years. even though a few things are still there, most are gone now, as one person said, by the flood of 1986. the university towers, the round building they go into for the drug transaction is where my jr.-sr. prom was held in 1977. it was a good feeling just to recognize thee places and bring back great memories from the old days..』 『This unassuming little coming-of-age drama features Matt Dillon in the title role as a sweet, slightly dim teenager living with his older brother Mason (Jim Metzler) in a rural Oklahoma town. With an absentee father and a deceased mom, the two eke out a marginal existence; things get desperate enough for Mason to sell his and Tex's horses to have enough money for groceries. Mason is ready to graduate high school and has his sights set on Indiana University and a basketball scholarship; he has little patience for his younger brother and his antics, feeling like he has to babysit him to keep him out of trouble. Tex's partner-in-mischief is Johnny (Emilio Estevez), while Johnny's sister Jamie (Meg Tilly) is the object of Tex's crush. The two live under the stern eye of their authoritarian dad (Ben Johnson), foiling any ideas Tex may have about Jamie. If this film seems reminiscent ofThe Outsiders, it's because it's similarly based on an S.E. Hinton novel; its tone and mood also calls to mind early-'80s kid dramas such asBreaking AwayandMy Bodyguard. It's a quiet little movie, capturing the boredom and tedium of small-town life nicely, with good characterizations and early roles by the Brat Pack. Dillon helped define himself early on with troubled-teen roles, and this is a fine example.Texis also notable because it was one of the first adult dramas to come from Disney Studios.--Jerry Renshaw』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (KatieBird* Certifiable Crazy Person... Certifiably Crazy Director) 『KatieBird* Certifiable Crazy Person: 2 out of 10: On the surface Katiebird has a lot of redeeming qualities. The story, while not original, is somewhat fresh. (Female serial killer mixed with Fraility like family touch.) The acting is well above average for a low budget horror film. (Even a poor performance such as Todd Gordon's stiff psychiatrist is still better than most.) The make up effects and original musical score, again despite some small faults, are also well above average.
So what went so horribly wrong?
Well for starters the film is a talky affair with not nearly enough plot to fill the 100 minute running time. For a serial killer Katiebird seems to have fallen a couple of victims short. The main (only) victim's killing is graphic but goes on way to long and lacks any punch. These scenes almost resemble a tedious Japanese snuff film (Guinea Pig Devil's Experiment for example) rather than a proper movie.
Oh and if the pictures are not enough of a clue the entire film is shot with split screen shifting windowpanes that take up maybe three quarters to as little as a third of your screen. Do not adjust your set. No really spend all the time you want fiddling with the aspect ratio on your remote it won't help. If you don't have a nice large screen plasma TV the film is simply unwatchable. If you do have a nice big screen the film is headache inducing. Even Woodstock didn't use this much split screen and Brian De Palma seems like a restrained TV sitcom director by comparison.
This is a shame because what little we can discern of cinematographer Josh Fong's works seems top notch. But it is lost in this look three places at once stylistic nightmare. Really you would have to be nuts to purposely torture your audience like this. Writer/director/editor Justin Paul Ritter is plainly nuts. Come to think of it he is a certified crazy person.
』
(A True Horror Independent) 『Writer/director Justin Paul Ritter gives us truly artful film filled with interesting characters, he doesn't shy away from style or violence. The acting in KatieBird was just spectacular, there's not a thing I can say about the acting. Ritter delivers big budget acting in a low budget film. I was especially impressed with Lee Perkins performance. He had this very low key Midwestern feel that's just hard to explain. Taylor M. Dooley also gave her all and was truly an interesting character, as did Helene Udy. Both women have created a terrifying character. Gorehounds take note, the torture and special FX were also done extremely well. This film is certainly not for the casual viewer. KatieBird is an unflinching look into the creation of a serial killer and her downward spiral of self-destruction. To say this film is nihilistic would be an understatement.
Heretic Films DVD release is phenomenal. It's packed with extras, comes packaged in a foil embossed slipcase and the first run of DVDs even include a free CD soundtrack! If you're a serial killer cinema fan you need to buy this; this is one of those "buy before watching" kinds of cinema. Don't expect to see this on cable anytime soon. Justin Paul Ritter is a force to be reckoned with. Not only has the man proven he can make a movie but he can undoubtedly make monsters. This comes highly recommended!』
(Interesting, movie that never quite gels.) 『KatieBird: Certifiable Crazy Person (Justin Paul Ritter, 2005)
Corman film factory graduate Justin Paul Ritter presents his first movie, and for someone who was involved with some of Corman's worst recent offerings (including the Black Scorpion TV show), his managing to stay away from the horrible scripts, unintentional humor, and awful acting that characterized so much of his second-unit work is pretty amazing. In fact, that this movie is anything other than horrendous is pretty much reason to rejoice. It's not a great film by any means, but given his background, it does presage great things for Mr. Ritter in the future (and, four years after KatieBird, Ritter is set to release two new films in 2009; I'm looking forward to them).
The title character in this film (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman's Helene Udy) lives up to her subtitle; in the present-day scenes we see, KatieBird has brought her psychiatrist and would-be suitor (Point Blank's Todd Gordon) back to her place, where she slowly tortures him while telling him the story of her life (the character is played in flashback by Nicole Jarvis, in her first film role, as a child, and Rufus' Taylor Dooley as a teen), giving us a look at how her father, played by Into the Arms of Strangers' Lee Perkins (who, actually, is a professional race car driver who acts on the side), shaped her into the psychotic she is today.
Okay, so everyone and his mom had complained about the split-screen effect that's vastly overused in this movie. But you know what? Compared to Timecode, probably the most famous movie to use the technique, this is a triumph. Yeah, I grant you, it still kind of sucks, but it's done so much better here than I've ever seen it before. Part of this is because the use of the split-screen technique has nothing, really to do with what's actually going on onscreen. Most of the time it's simply a stylistic choice, rather than being used to show multiple storylines at once. It wasn't an absolute necessity to try and focus on multiple storylines, so it didn't really matter which screen I watched, I was still getting what I needed to know about the plot.
The script is solid, and there's some darned fine acting here (Udy, is excellent, and some mention should be made of Jun Hee Lee as a teen KatieBird's crush who comes to a very bad end), and it's interesting to see a film that's not a horror movie get the gore treatment. It seems most people who have watched this are unable to get by the split-screen thing; if you can, there's a lot to like with this one. *** 』
(Please stop the split screen shots!) 『Looks like someone showed the director how to do split screen and partial screen shots on his computer, and he went absolutely nuts. The WHOLE movie is presented in this manner. It becomes very distracting, it's hard to emerse yourself in a story when you are constantly reminded that you are watching a film due to the overuse of a particual technique. That alone pretty much ruined the film for me. I guess you have to do something to cover up for a poorly written, shot and directed mess. Oh, and the music sucks too, unless you like guitar notes and chords held into lengthy sustained feedback. Gave me a headache.』
(Great Horror Film) 『This is a story about one girl's coming of age and her father who passes down to her that old family tradition of being a serial killer. It's an artsy type of horror film. The cinematics in it were great. I found the acting to be suprisingly good. I thought that the actors who played teenage Katiebird and her father did an especially good job. I 1st rented this movie thinking that it would either be entertaining enough or really suck. I liked it so much that I decided to buy it after.』 『What would happen if Ed Gein or Ted Bundy were to have children and raise them to follow in their bloody footsteps? KatieBird Wilkens brought to life with unnerving depth and believability by horror veteran Helene Udy (My Bloody Valentine) explores this very question in a chilling and graphic testimony of family tradition emotional confusion and complete insanity. This does not detract from its value. As do Barack Obama's books (for example, Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance), it tells us what a political leader wants us to know about his view of the world. To McCain and Slater, decision making is characterized by Awareness, Foresight, Timing, Confidence, Humility and Inspiration. These qualities are examined through 20 case studies, including Gerald Ford's decision to pardon Richard Nixon and the efforts of Menachem Begin and Anwar Sadat to achieve peace between their countries.
The book's structure presents some choices. First, it can be read as ordered, with a discussion of each aspect of leadership followed by historical examples. It runs a little long this way, though. I listened to it as an audio book and felt like I was trudging though history on foot. Worth the walk, but quite a trek.
Readers with more selective interests might sample just the stories that intrigue or that fill gaps in their historical knowledge. It is worthwhile to learn about the history of Liberia or experience another perspective on Alexander Graham Bell's inventiveness. Each of the 20 decision scenarios is a self-contained story, which facilitates such picking and choosing.
Finally, readers eager to examine John McCain's leadership style can confine themselves to the book's introduction, and to the introductory chapters in each of the six sections. These chapters point to the kind of decisions he admires, what he has learned from them, and how he--and we--can make decisions like them. Whether you agree with him or not, his brand of decision making is made plain to be understood and evaluated.』
(This book can help anyone make better decisions) 『"Hard Call" isn't just a book by a politician to advance his career. It's a powerful work that can help anyone make better decisions in his or her own life. John McCain, with the help of Mark Salter, discusses a number of factors that should be considered when evaluating a decision, and what he thinks are the most important ingredients in making the best choices for ourselves and for others. I was greatly impressed by the degree to which he has considered this question. Whether one agrees with his decisions or not, it is certainly praiseworthy that he has invested this much energy into considering the art of decision-making. His intellect and his analytical powers are extraordinary. I also appreciated the wide variety of people, male and female, whom he uses as examples of fine or not-so-fine decision-makers. There are examples from politics and the military, as we might expect, but also from such areas as the sports world, science, and retail. The book is excellently researched and certainly educational. McCain even discusses decisions he himself has made that he considers flawed, and the lessons he learned from them. In addition, I enjoyed the flow of the writing style. This is a book that will stay with you for a long time.』
("Oddball" McCain reveals some very personal quirks!) 『John McCain is quite an interesting man, and this first person account was fascinating. I was surprised to read that McCain puts aside 35 minutes each day to tap dance, and follows a diet consisting entirely of tangerines. And who would have thought McCain wears the very same pair of "lucky" underpants every day, except for his "Sunday pants." I was hoping that McCain would have gone into more depth about his year-long relationship with Edith Piaf in the late 1930s, but I guess there's always the next one! Great book!』
(a must read for everyone) 『With all of the biased coverage of news these days, it is important to find information to give balance to the whole picture. This book, with its choices of material, is an excellent example of what a person needs to read to help form opinions and delve through all of the "stuff" that bombards us daily. Add it to your list of "must reads" today, and enjoy it all!』
(The Art of the Hard Call) 『John McCain's "Hard Call: The Art of Great Decisions" reveals the essential character qualities required to make the "Hard Call" by retelling stories of great decision makers, past and present. I learned many new things about the character of people like Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Abe Lincoln, and many others. As McCain illuminates the character qualities each of these people displayed in their great decisions, we get a glimpse at the character of the author as well.』 『InHard Call, acclaimed authors John McCain andMark Salterdescribe the anatomy of great decisions in history by telling the remarkable stories of men and women who have exemplified composure, wisdom, and intellect in the face of life's toughest decisions. The authors identify six qualities typically represented in the best decisions: Awareness. Timing. Foresight. Confidence. Humility. Inspiration. These qualities are personified by the exceptional individuals in this book, each of whom made a hard call:
Branch Rickey's awareness of the opposition he would face in integrating the Brooklyn Dodgers, and his sagacity in choosing the right man, Jackie Robinson, to break baseball's color barrier.
Winston Churchill's foresight in preparingEngland's Navy for war.
Anwar Sadat's and Menachem Begin's timing in choosing to risk their lives and political careers by seeking peace in the aftermath of war.
Gertrude Ederle's confidence in deciding to swim theEnglish Channel- and her fortitude in continuing the quest against the wishes of her coach, despite the fact that no woman had ever succeeded.
Reinhold Niebuhr's humility in deciding to abandon his pacifist views and endorse the use of violence against persecution in Nazi Germany and theSoviet Union.
Abraham Lincoln's historic act of inspiration: His decision to issue the Emancipation Proclamation, the role of faith in his life, and his willingness to suffer for a cause greater than himself.
Woven into these stories are John McCain's own views on the process and art of decision-making and examples of the hard calls we face in our lives. "When I assess a decision," McCain writes, "I want to know all I can about the character of the decision maker before I examine the properties of the decision, its outcome or how it was arrived at."
Hard Callis a testament to the people whose choices serve as a beacon for us all.』

This crisis brought about by Korporate Facist America corresponds easily to the Mussolinic version of the Right Wing; for those with short memories; not the left as some have said.
In looking at the Republikan Washington Times using the terminology of "Euthanasia" and "Death Lists" as bringing to life that discarnate shadow of Nazi Germeny in the rise of Hitler we now have a nwspaper which is supposed to stand as a Minister of the Free Press in America using what the Supreme Court might define as Unconstitutional Tactics in bringing to mummified life the forces in those days of Nazi Germany in which protest was silenced and dissent crushed; as the Free Voice of the People was strangled in it's own Town Halls by goons and shouters who took over with well funded right-wing backers: like now.
The Fall of the Reich: the End of Washington Times
The Hour of Temptation..... This Last Day maywell seemingly prove to be one of increasing regret for Rev. Moon and his minions.
The fact that Corporate America is now trying to install it's own "Reich" to replace the close Bush-Moon syndicate shows us how close we are to a "brown shirts" to beat down the middle class with "Mediscare" for the old and sick and Orwellian Doublespeak to confuse the young and politically naive shows we have reached a nadir in American politics: the rise of Corporate Facism and religious "ends justifies the means" Pied Piperism going back to the rise of Hitler.
Don't forget: Hitler's enemies were all branded as "Socialists" and "Communists" whenever they dared speak out against his racism and hatred of those who dared oppose him and his Right Wing backers; all rich industrialists and those in bed with Cheney-style military interests: like now.
Now the enemy of Corporate America ( this entity of "economic facism" so well delineated by C.S. Lewis in the "Screwtape Letters" ) is the Poor souls of our Nation being attacked for having had the temerity to vote for a Black Christian Champion and one who knowingly stands as our President on the 430 year foundation of the suffering or the "dues" the Black Christian Race paid in their 430 years in the West.
That they suffered as Israel suffered once in Egypt for 430 years as their dues recalls the Slavery the Jews once suffered in Egypt long ago; so well seen in the work of Taylor Branch in his two monumental books "Parting the Waters" and "Pillar of Fire".
Barack Obama stands as our Messiah on the National level as Sun Myung Moon is well aware of: but yet he has not offered to help the man God chose to have him unify Korea with the Divine support Rev. Moon could have brought to America to bring the Foundation to a new earth to build the Kingdom of God.
This could have easily happened through the wise reading and ensuing freedom granted in the hidden power and promise of our Sacred Constitution itself if Rev. Moon had not set out to destroy the Democratic process and subvert the Second Israel by setting up Korea as the Third Israel to replace us: which I stopped as the least in the Kingdom of Heaven with the help of my Father's servant John.
As with this "David" Barack Obama represents we now have Rev. Moon as our fallen "Saul" now trying to kill the representative "Black Messiah" who was set up on the foundation of our own Black Moses Servant King; as Aaron Presley was his White Brother whose "Voice" brought together the "white north: and the "black south"; and all in a way the Racist white South and the Free Black North hardly guessed would one day happen in our own lifetimes.
As My Generation which began the internal Exodus from our invisible but racially apparent Egypt it is they who marched with Servant King and crossed the racial line by responding to the black southern Voice of Prince Aaron Presley who are much different than those Koreans who disdained the Rev. Martin King as our Moses with his Aaron: and instead let he who could have stood for the yellow race as our "Joshua" Rev. Moon.
The Koreans Rev. Moon brainwashed in the KCIA simply abandoned God's own cause in the Internal Providence of America: instead Rev. Moon railed against racism in America that he encountered when he came here in 1945 who yet never walked a step with Rev. King or sent his followers to be "Freedom Riders"to bring racial justice to America as the Second Israel.
Rev. Moon decided our invisible "Tabernacle" as the Manchild of Israel that My Generation really is would be best replaced by Korea's children of the Korean War that we American's fought and died for. He forgot us; and exalted himself.
The Rise of Corporate Facism: the Shadow of Hitler and Rev. Moon's Bush wack of My Generation: the untold story of the "Jacob" of Korea.
People forget how Jacob once "stole" the Blessing from Esau; but not Sun Myung Moon: he patterened his entire strategy in America to steal this very blessing from the Children of the Resurrection: and let us see how!
He married all those who were "not to marry: nor be given in marriage" so they could be eligible for the Resurrection from the dead and the inheriting of eternal life. This Rev. Moon decided to destroy by marrying as many of My generation as possible; too bad for them if they did not read their own Bible's!
The Last Day of Rev. Moon thus now emerges: going from the "Faithful and Wise Steward" written of in Matthew and Luke he was to have been and instead becoming the "Evil Servant" of the Gospel by failing to wait for the Return of the Lord as he was instructed by my Father's servant John.
It is now that the problem of the fall of Rev. Moon that is bringing to bear the powers that aree enshrined in the "Scarlet Beast" of chapter 17 of the Revelation of St. John the Divine: which I have revealed in my soon to be published book that is Red China?
Indeed the Son of Perdition who is Osama bin Laden the Antichrist has the spirit of the Scarlet Beast who is the yellow race in it's countless "Red Flags" of warning we in the West have long ignored. The spirit of the Antichrist which lives in the Marxist yellow race under the sway of Death has now had it's own avatar Rev. Moon fall to this power himself by his covenant with Kim Il Sing and then his son Kim Jong Il; as the symbolic Son of the Devil as of his own source of hatred and violence against the Lamb.
Who embodies in the flesh with his armies the one who now fights against Justice and Freedom from Oppression by the Forces behind the Terrorism now being uprooted bloody inch by inch from the people of Gog and Magog: Iraq and Iran; respectively???
The Antichrist: Osama bin Laden; the one who Rev. Moon now unwittingly has sided with by opposing out Black Messiah Barack Obama on the National Level in the 430 Foundation of Salvation My Generation set up.
He knows not what he does; I say this in all sorrow; and to his own shame.
That Adolf Hitler rose in a depresion is an historical fact; yet can beatings of our citizens as targeted town hall liberals and reform health care supporters be far off?
And why would Sun Myung Moon be setting his newspaper to mouth the racist hatred of the Nazis and their master who served the Beast as the new weapon against our Nation and our new President trying to take care of it's sick and poor citizens?
Who does this is not a Christian in the usual sense of clothing the naked or healing the sick; of feeding the poor or helping those incarcerated for one tragic reason or another; usuually for the crime of being poor and powerless on the Street of Babylon which is worse than Hell in the richest Nation on Earth.
And now: the shadow of Hitler from Rev. Moon: this will probably lead to his complete spiritual death in a few short weeks: I know that My Generation's own Righteous Father will step in to defeat the Right Wing in their steady rise in the power of the still-living Shadow of Hitler and their friends of the growing Korporate Facism in it's Economic salvation and help from the Scarlet Beast of Red China as it carries the Harlot who is Capitalism's Market on it's back: a Capitalist Marxism with a new Economic Feudalism never before even dreamed of when a corrupt Marxist government and it's State-owned businesses are united in Commerce against their own people: this is but the Shadow and Image of the Scarlet Beast; the Fallen Nature in it's global form; back again from the Axis as now Red China unmasked as the Scarlet Beast climbs out of the Abyss seen in chapter 17 of the Revelation of St. John the Divine.
The Scarlet Beast that John the Divine saw lives and moves in the Wilderness of Capitalism; the world of Materialism; both economic and scientific: the spirit of the Antichrist: Red China; with that fourth portion of the earth signified as the Yellow Race under the sway of Death with India as the Hell on Earth the throne of Death really is.
People forget the 300 million untouchable's in India who live a life that is more death than life; thus we have the Heloo on earth India supports as it carves out it;s Korporate share of the Global Market of the Harlot of Capitalism the Kingdom of God will replace with Love where now we have only money; the doomed system of things that will fall even as the Crystalized Caste Cociety India upholds as the Scepter of Mammon will be broken as the Vine of the Earth falls.
India and China supporting spirititually Death and Hell shows we now have their final rise and coming fall with Rev. Moon as the fallen "first helper" the Hopi prophets pointed out was to help but might also betray the Messiah at his return; the one they called the "first helper" of the Pahana or "White Brother of Quetzacoatl".
This indeedwas Rev. Moon as being the emissary of the Yellow Race the Hopi call the "Elder Brother".
Nut My Generation's "second helper" the Hopi prophesied of is my Father's servant John: the Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven.
It is the emergence of My Generation as the Tabernacle seen as that Child in His Name of Love that has now come in Our Day as in the Name of Christ Jesus.
Rev. Moon missed his chance to become the Messiah by Shepherding My Nation when the Light of Love was seen as in the Name of "Day Light" that is the Name of "Christ Jesus" by which "a little child" in the Name of Love as the name of God Almighty was to have led them and then the world to the New Heaven and New Earth: this is what Rev. Moon snuffed out in his strategy for global domination.
And of the Global Messiah Rev. Moon abandoned? That is My Generation itself as rising to the status of the Cosmic Son of Man itself; as "Caught up to God; and to His Throne".
And who can Stand? It even seems that God Himself will have to stop the Right Wing from selling America down the drain to punish it for electing a REAL President: one with a Heart and a Mind: something Korporate Republikan Neo-Nazism fears greatly; and for good reason: they are siding with Rev. Moon as unwitting pawns in their own destruction in this Last Day.
The fall of the Right Wing when Rev. Moon gave millions to Pat Robertson and other hate-mongers has now decided their own coming fate in that they would play the "dog in the manger" for all the uninsured in America as a way of sticking their finger in the eye of Barack Obama.
Have they come up with anything to help the poor and uninsured in America? Then let me hear differently: let me see what the Republikcan "alternative" is: ah, here it is: nada!!! What a surprise!
The Republican alternative is zero; so it is now a forgone conclusion that nothing can stop the Lobby for the Health Care System except a popular uprising of the Idealistic generation that fell once but will now rise to bring the Kingdom of God to it's fruition starting here in God's Country.
The Rich have decided that nothing is once again to be done for the Poor in this Richest Nation on Earth that is America; but seemingly have planned plenty more and Never-ending Korporate welfare for them.
Spite and Revenge against America for electing someone they seemingly hate with every fibre of their being: polite smiles notwithstanding. Under attack is the US: the US being "US" or our Nation itself; if that is not too gramatically awkward.
Yet with Sun Myung Moon in the fray the dynamic shifts to one of the Upper Class and that Rulers who would sell the poor for a "pair of shoes". Red Shoes for the Scarlet beast; it seems, for a dance of Death untile Red China "makes it's move"; and it will; never fear.
I have only the Truth: and the Second Helper: my Father's servant John is the Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven. Yet it seems I stand as little more than a feeble Quixote; feeble; but as David; against a Goliath known as the GOP; and our Saul; one fallen Sun Myung Moon; the Mighty who have fallen.
I fear the worst has yet to come to pass: but I know that the Word of God itself will prevail; even for our fallen "Faithful and Wise Steward" who now stands with the Yellow Race as that "Evil Servant" of the Scarlet Beast of Revelation: Red China; carrying the "Harlot" of "free market" Capitalism on it's back: just as it was written by my Father's servant John 2000 years ago: and has come to pass; the Capitalist form of Marxism in it's last and most destructive form: carrying the Capitalist Market almost singlehandedly: yet only Hell is it's goal and end..
As the Third Israel it is Rev. Moon for his beloved Korea who tried to "steal" our "land" when he mixed the soil of Korea with the land of all 50 States here in the US, which no one knew about until too late.
That America is the Second Israel can be seen by the fact that in Israel the king was also the head of the army; which is why we have "Camp David" in the first place: and "Uncle Sam" refers to the prophet "Samuel" whose name means "the Name of God"; as Samuel the Prophet of the Nazarenes was he who anointed David as the King and Light of Irsael. Should we not be in arms!???
Or should we rise up and sue Rev. Moon to "marry" the Widow of Israel he "left" at the "Altar" of our Land itself when he turned his back on us and married a Korean woman instead?
It was the Black Christian Woman Rev. Moon should have married in 1960 who symbolizes Sheba; the Mythic "queen of the South" who symbolizes the "SOUL" of America; and a lot of the "backbone" as well; truth be known.
The Mark of the beast then is "hypocrisy"; to appear as what one isn't; the beast which "is and is not" as it were; by the saying and insistence upon one thing and the doing of another; as Rochefoucauld once said: "Hypocrisy is the Homage that Vice pays to Virtue".
Let us pray for our Nation and for the Repentance of Rev. Moon by which I and my Father's servant John could indeed save him.

(First prize winner for most lies in fewest pages!) 『For years I have been researching, cataloging and then publishing the corruption which flows from today's Republican Party like the waters of the Mississippi River through a collapsed levee. Google recognizes the quality of my work by listing it as the very first response to searches for "Republican corruption and immorality". On that page I have been challenging Republicans and/or conservatives to come up with a comparable catalogue of Democratic corruption and there have been very few takers. Those who have responded have come up with pathetic attempts like this latest "Donkey CONS", which try every trick in "the book of deceits" to fool the public. They compare apples and oranges, peccadilloes to crimes. They use Southern "Democrats" of times long dead and gone, the fathers of today's Republican Party of Jefferson Davis, to blacken the reputation of today's Liberal Democratic children of Abraham Lincoln. They use "members" of the Democratic Party to blacken her, when political parties have no control over who joins them.
In contrast to such shenanigans, what I do is show that the Republican Party is rotten to the core because it has a pattern of appointing some of its most rotten members to high office in their party and inflicting such people on the public by promoting their elections. What I highlight are not mere "indictments", but convictions, and not minor offenses - no matter how sensational or unpopular -, but serious crimes. I also clearly differentiate between civic corruption on the one hand, and sexual immorality, on the other. And I distinguish between local criminality and national criminality. Regardless of the distinctions, however, I don't just make unfounded claims about which party is the most corrupt in America in our day. I build my case on plenty of unimpeachable evidence. Does this litany of leading contemporary Republican politicians ring any bells: Richard Nixon, Spiro Agnew, U.S. Senators, Strom Thurmond, Conrad Burns, Rick Santorum, Bill Frist, Bob Packwood, Ted Stevens, Larry Craig, Philip Giordano, U.S. Congressmen, Tom DeLay, Newt Gingrich, Henry , Bob Livingston, Bob Barr, Bob Ney, Tom Noe, Richard Pombo, Bill Thomas, Charles Canady, Dick Armey, John Peterson, Helen Chenoweth, Katherine Harris, Wild Bill, Janklow, Vito Fossella, J.C. Watts, Connie Mack, John Schmitz, Donald, Buz, Lukens, Ken Calvert, Dan Crane, Jim Bunn, Sue Myrick, Robert Bauman, Ed Schrock, Roy Blunt, Rick Renzi, Charles Taylor, Duke, Cunningham, Don Sherwood, Roy Blunt, Tom Feeney, Mark Foley, Marilyn Musgrave, Jack Abramoff, Mark A. Grethen, Oliver North, Gordon Liddy, Richard A. Delgaudio, Don Blankenship, Ralph Reed, John Fund, Jeff Gannon, Bill Bennett, etc. ?』
(Very interesting book) 『I only would hope that some democrats would read it and really think about it.』
(Too Slanted to be Worthwhile) 『There are very few books published that I cannot, for one reason or another, finish. This, however, seems to be the book of the year that I just cannot make it through. I tried, but this was so blatantly one sided and biased that I had to give it up. I expected a slant...not a hatchet job.
The out and out misstatements and the innuendos found in this book make it a less than credible work. While bashing the Democrats, they seem to have a serious case of amnesia about the Republicans. In addition, they twist some of the facts around to make their argument, which is revisionist, at best.
A classic in the book is Marion Barry's arrest for his drug use. They rail against him for being re-elected to office after serving his prison term. No Republican could have that happen....but wait. What about John Poindexter from the Reagan administration (granted, he was appointed, not elected) who was indicted and found guilty of numerous felonies? He then was hired by the current Bush administration to work with national security. Ooops!
Many reviewers have mentioned the book is heavily footnoted, which it is. However, if you go to the back of the book, you will discover that the book division of a tabloid magazine is one of their favorite sources. Not a place I go for primary historical information, nor would any serious historian.
There are crooks, scoundrels and dishonest politicians from both parties running around Washington, D.C., and while I didn't expect this book to be balanced, I did expect, at a minimum, that the authors would acknowledge that both parties have skeletons to hide. From this book, you would expect that the Democrats are fleecing everyone, while the Republicans are clean as snow, which is not the case. 』
(Corruption in American Politics) 『You must be very open minded to accept the premis of this book. Although throughly doucmented and including Republican's and well as Democrat's, I doubt many Democrat's would agree with the conclusions arrived at as they read the chapters. The book presents a very disturbing picture of modern day politics.』 『
"The Democratic Party is like the Gambino mob, but with matching federal funds."
In this raucous, head-spinning look at the follies and felonies of today's most famous and infamous liberals, journalists Lynn Vincent and Robert Stacy McCain chronicle for the first time therampant crime, sex, and corruptionof the Democratic Party. Donkey Cons reveals:
How corrupt Democrats in Congress outnumber corrupt Republicans by as much as three to one.
How Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, and John F. Kennedy were elected with the help of the Mob.
What two eyewitnesses said about JFK's obsession with hookers.
How union operatives take from working families to deliver millions of dollars to Democrats.
How Democrats in the 1990's covered up a conspiracy one expert called "the largest incidence of obstruction of justice in American history."
Why Democrats ignore crime victims and take the side of rapists, robbers, and cop-killers-thenstump for the right of felons to vote!
From bribery, kickbacks, and sex scandals to espionage, terrorism, and rape, what was once the "Party of the People" has become a party with an appallingly long rap sheet. And this hard-hitting, sad-but-funny expose of the crimes of the Democratic Party finally puts all their misdeeds into perspective. Thoroughly researched, using outrageous anecdotes and intimate details,Donkey Consshows that the serial corruption of the Clinton presidency wasn't an anomaly but a developing, unnerving pattern in the modern Democratic ethos. These are the stories the Democrats don't want you to read!

Margaret Marshall Rhyne, Remembering Alexis, Finding Perspective in Love and Loss』
(Joyful and Triumphant) 『I first became acquainted with John McCain upon reading a December 1982 Reader's Digest article entitled "Joyful and Triumphant" which of course is from the Christmas Hymn "O, Come all ye Faithful". He wrote about a Christmas service which he led, (Bud Day nominated him chaplain for the evening), for the two dozen American prisoners gathered together for a Christmas eve service in Hanoi, Vietnam. I have the entire article somewhere in my apartment which I've saved all these years. I've followed his career all these years, and he's never disappointed me. Would have voted for him in 2000 even when I considered myself a diehard Democrat. I'm an Independent now.
This book is a great one to start with if you know absolutely nothing about Senator John McCain. The author is a former marine who did a tour in Vietnam in 1966-1967. He first wrote this book in the 90's, some years before Senator McCain started his first bid for the Presidency. I had many laughs reading this book, particularly when I found out what "IHTFP", the title of one of his chapters, stood for. Students at the Naval Academy used this anacronym when referring to their school . It stands for "I hate the f'in place!" I also got a laugh reading about a slip of the tongue McCain had when campaigning for his Arizona Senate seat early in his senate career. He referred to an Arizona retirement community as "Seizure World" instead of Leisure World. He is probably THE ONLY person in U.S. history to get away with such a gaffe and still win an election!
I will continue to hunt for that Reader's Digest article; I have it on hand somewhere-don't throw stuff like that away. For years I had it in my bible along with other articles, poems, mementos. One year, on reformation day or all Saint's day, November 1, I removed them from my bible in what I thought at the time was a symbolic gesture! That article can also be found "The best of Christmas in my heart" by Joe Wheeler which came out a year ago.
I also haven't trashed an email I got a year or so ago from another Naval Academy grad, Roger Staubach, also a McCain 2008 supporter. (My mother was the HUGEST Dallas Cowboys fan, Tom Landry fan, Roger Staubach fan, for decades, when they were losing, long before they'd even come close to winning a super bowl)!
He may be Arizona's Senator, but I claim him too. I think this country will be sorry that he didn't get elected to the most powerful country in the world. That's what I predict. Mark my words.』
(Mickey) 『McCain is a bon vivant. He likes the booze. He loves to conquer women. He does not work. He is the grand-son and the son of the U.S. Navy amirals. In short, Robert Timberg gives us a portrait of a spoiled child, very proud of himself, very egocentric.
Just the Vietnam War. At the 3rd exit, he was sent down when he bombed a radar station in Hanoi, in the city. Of the civilian casualties, he doens not care. He manages to propel his zing and falls into a swamp where he almost drowned himself. Vietnamese people rush and save his life! Lead at the edge of the marsh, he is beaten and only the intervention of a man saved the life of someone who few minutes ago could have died by the bombing of this soldier. No thanks ever came from him.
Then the man showed some courage, refusing to be freed despite multiple fractures, very badly treated, which he suffered during his crash. He is tortured. He is resistant to a certain extent. 5 years and a half. That is a lot to endure.
Then, back home, he finds that his wife following a car accident, is disabled. He plate some time later a young blonde woman, from whom, as the biographer swears, McCain was attracted only for her beauty and not for her money (rich heiress).
Stroke of luck, after his military career (22 years) he started in politics in Arizona, which he did not know and won only thanks to his charms (and probably also through the wealth and interpersonal bonds of his step-family). As a true believer in the republican way of life, he is also an admirer of Reagan.
His vision of the world is as rich as that of Mickey. His positions on Serbia and Kosovo have the same simplicity of the ones that Kouchner, the French Foreign Affairs minister, who is by all standards a winner in Europe in the competition of fatal errors. In Iraq, he is an advocate of the stronger commitment of the United States because he believes in the victory ...
Such ordinary guy is really uncommon. This biography is boneless. Politics is all show-off. Nothing disturbs the liberal doctrine, suicidal, anti-social, depleted, McCain. Are we near the end of the show ?
』
(Warts and all) 『Written at a time when John McCain was preparing for a presidential run in 2000, this book can hardly considered up to date. Nevertheless, it paints a useful picture of the man who figures to be the Republican standard bearer in 2008. If a better biography (leaving aside McCain's memoir) is available, I am not aware of it.
"An American Odyssey" is by journalist Robert Timberg (Baltimore Sun), also a graduate of the Naval Academy but in a more recent year. The portrayal of McCain is sympathetic - military tradition of his family, distinguished service record, heroism as a prisoner of war, passion for doing what he thinks right. No wonder that so many people who crossed paths with McCain remember him with affection and respect.
This is not a puff piece, however, and many incidents are related that show McCain in a less than a flattering light - disrespectful of authority, impulsive, lacking a clear sense of direction. I found this aspect of the book invaluable, as it provides a basis for evaluating the character flaws (terrible temper, broken by North Vietnamese captors, etc.) that critics have attributed to McCain.
Timberg's conclusion: here is a man with flaws, no "early bloomer" for sure, but when the chips were down he did far better than most of us would have done. Crucially, McCain emerged from the dark days of the Vietnam War with a determination to look ahead rather than wasting the rest of his life in anger and regret.
My recommendation: read the book and decide whether you agree.』
(a good introduction to a great american) 『This is a book which i have had on my bookshelf for 5 years, and have not read until this past month. Mccain is the man i will vote for president, so it was about time i read. It is not a great literary read however i have learned much about this man and my respect for him has grown. Of course since this book was written in advance of his 2000 campaign I would reccomend one of his more updated books.』 『If, as you're readingJohn McCain: An American Odyssey, you feel a sense of déjà vu, don't be alarmed--you may very well have read this book before. Robert Timberg has extracted from his 1995 bookThe Nightingale's Song, which dealt with several Naval Academy graduates who went on to serve in Vietnam, those passages that involved Senator John McCain, a candidate for the Republican nomination in the 2000 presidential elections. To this Timberg has added some new, updated material.
Roughly half of this story is covered in McCain's own memoir,Faith of My Fathers, including McCain's early military career and an internment in a North Vietnamese POW camp that lasted nearly six years. But it's presented here from an objective, journalistic perspective (and Timberg's own stint at Annapolis informs the sections on the Naval Academy immeasurably). But there's also strong material on McCain's political career, from his first campaigns in Arizona through the dark days of his involvement in the "Keating Five" scandal of the early '90s up to his role in 1999 as a critic of American involvement in the NATO attack on Serbia (which, McCain said, wasn't strong enough).』
『This reissue of the penetrating biography of Senator John McCain, the man who may be the next president of the United States, by celebrated author Robert Timberg now has a new foreword that updates readers on the politician's life since this book's original publication in 1999. InJohn McCain: An American Odyssey,Timberg provides a riveting account of McCain's remarkable life -- from his rambunctious childhood and his madcap escapades as a U.S. Naval Academy midshipman to his grim experiences as a combat pilot and POW in Vietnam, where the North Vietnamese held him prisoner for five and a half years. Most important, the author illuminates Senator McCain's postwar evolution into one of our country's most distinguished politicians and a formidable presidential candidate. This biography probes deeply into the life of this hugely colorful, straight-talking American original. It is a rich and captivating portrait of one of America's most fascinating and provocative public figures -- a man who has captured the imagination of millions of Americans and who will continue to be a most prominent figure in the American political landscape.』
