(Too Good For One Movie!)

(Great, Fun Movie)

(Funny Florida)

(honkey tonk freeway)

(Honky Tonk Freeway)
This has to be one of the best comedies of all time. Just check out the list of actors in this film, not to mention the characters, and situations the portray, all of them on their way to Florida for one reason or the other, all connecting in the town of Ticlaw. They could have made a sitcom of this movie and I'm sure it would have been on the tube for years. I first watched this on HBO in the 80s, taped it, and have enjoyed it ever since. You won't be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this movie. It was fun and it probably helped that my expectations were pretty low. I grew up in the town that hosted most of the downtown scenes - Mount Dora, FL (a correction to the previous reviewer indicating Fruitville was the filming location). They did film the scene of blowing up the overpass near Sarasota.
Honky Tonk Freeway, for many years, held the record for losing more money than any Hollywood product in history. Having probably the worst, most ill-conceived title possible and no real star power, it was easy to overlook. The fact is, it's a funny movie. This isn't "art" and it doesn't pretent to be. But, if I have a choice of spending an evening with either Honky Tonk Freeway or Out of Africa, it's going to be the trip to Ticlaw, Florida for me.
this movie is a classic to me. i have not see it since the late eighties. that is why i am pleased i found it at amazon. does not have it anywhere else that i know of...
The movie is great fun to watch with my family. Parts of this film was filmed in Sarasota,FL where we live and I did work as an extra on this film. We were thrilled to find it and have a copy to enjoy again and again, and of course to go with the my keepsake Honky Tonk Freeway t-shirt, paycheck stubs and letter of thanks.

(One of the best 80s movies ever&an all time classic for any age!!!)

(WOW)

(DVD purchase)

(Footloose and Free!)

(Great flick, ok transfer)
This movie is awesome... Coming from one of the best decades ever, having an incredible soundtrack, great acting, and a unique story line- this movie is one of the best ever&will continue to be watched by every age group for years to come.

The movie brings back so many memories for me...
I still get just as excited watching it now, as I did back in the day!

Lori Singer and Kevin Bacon were perfect for the roles and what about Chris Penn's performance??? he did a superb job...

This movie never get's old and is just plain AWESOME!!!

I hope they put it on bluray disc...

Thanks for reading my review...

I saw this in the movies when it first came out, but I was amazed how many of the songs in the show are now 'standards'. We recently saw the road show in Ft. Lauderdale and it inspired us to buy the DVD. (The movie's better!!)
product received was as advertised, and in great condition. Would buy from this vendor again.
I cannot believe it has been 25 years ago that we watched this movie in the theatres! Wow!
It caused an uproar then with our friends but today seems somewhat calm and shows that kids really need a little freedom of expression to do what comes naturally. Of course, all within reason and respect.
Still a great movie to watch with your grandkids and talk about what things were like "back in the old days!"

Footloose is a bit of a classic, and still fun to watch. Great 80's dance tunes that take me back to my high school years. It's great to see the film in its original aspect, but there are a few scenes/shots, especially towards the beginning, where there is some noticeable artifacting or lack of resolution in the video. Not terrible, but enough to warrant the four-star rating instead of five. Still a good buy. (This review pertains to the Special Collector's Edition DVD).
Director Herbert Ross (The Turning Point) pulled a winning movie out of this almost self-consciously archetypal tale of teenage rock rebellion. Kevin Bacon stars as a hip city kid who ends up in a Bible-belt town after his parents divorce. An ill fit for a conservative community where rock is frowned upon and dancing is forbidden, Bacon's character rallies the kids and takes on the establishment. Between a good cast really embracing the drama of Dean Pitchford's screenplay, and Ross's imaginative, highly charged way of shooting the dance numbers, you can get lost in this all-ages confection, and you won't even mind Kenny Loggins's bubbly pop. Bonuses include one of John Lithgow's best performances (a bit reminiscent of Jimmy Stewart), and Christopher Penn (who sure doesn't look the same anymore) as a good-natured hick who learns to boogie.--Tom Keogh

(BORN GOOD!)

(ALL GOOD!)

(Darn GOOD!)

(Wow!)

(Born Bad is all good)
This film impressed me with the tense plot and excellent acting from a relatively unknown cast. Corey Feldman is hysterical. The squemish might want to fast-forward through a disturbing scene where a woman gets her finger chopped in a paper cutter! Overall, I really enjoyed this picture.
I really enjoyed watching this video. The actors were all really strong. I was surprised how good Corey Feldman is, and I haven't liked him since"Stand By Me."This picture deals with teens who rob a bank and essentially every thing that can go wrong does. The paper cutter scene is awesome...worthy of Hitchcock himself."Born Bad"is"all good."
Corey Feldman is hilarious in this movie. I thought that all the clever plot twists and turns were great. The last half hour is intense. Although I didn't recognize some of the actors, I thought they all did a really good job. Definitely worth seeing!
I think this action-drama was GREAT!
At the end its really tense and I just shaked the last 15 minutes. Even if the end wasnt as good as you would like, it was still wort seeing it.
And I think the actors did a great job, even if they warent famous.

Sure to be a cult classic! This gripping teen crime drama got so intense at one point that my girlfriend squeezed the circulation out of my hand! Corey Feldman is funnier than I have ever seen him. The non-stop tension makes this picture worth buying on DVD. You will thank me later.

(A one hour documentary DVD comprised of ten shorts enhanced with commentary)
All too often in the course of American political history, good and descent men have sacrificed their own honor on the altar of presidential ambition. John McCain is simply the latest to do so. "The Real McCain: Less Jobs, More Wars" is a one hour documentary DVD comprised of ten shorts enhanced with commentary that include 'John McCain vs John McCain'; 'Less Jobs, More War', 'Why Won't McCain Support the G.I. Bill?'; 'John McCain Sings Bomb Iran'; 'Big Oil Fuels the Straight Talk Express'; 'McCain's Spiritual Guide Wants American to Destroy Islam'; 'John McBush 2008'; Leaked - ABC's Stephanopoulos Interviews McCain'; 'Why Do Women Give McCain a Zero?'; and 'McCain's Youtube Problem Just became a Nightmare. It's somewhat ironic that the McCain campaign's descent into character assassination politics against his Democratic opponent Barack Obama should come from a man who himself was the smear campaign target in the Republican presidential primaries of 2008 from the team of George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Karl Rove.

(Last Letters Home)

(Astonishing, meaningful, heart-wrenching)
I read this book on a flight from Houston to Raliegh. The young man sitting next to me was riveted. He read the book over my shoulder. He wondered how I could read a book like this after I told him my son was in the 3rd Infantry Division. My son was in Iraq from March 2003 to August 2003 and returns in January.

I told him books like these are important in keeping us in touch with the reality of what we face over there. All Americans should feel the pain along with the families of the soldiers who have died. This book brings home the painful reality.

I, too, was compelled to write our story for this very reason. Our son came home and for that we are forever grateful. Yet I want people to know the complexity of emotion that raged through my family while he was there. My book can be found on Amazon and is called "Letters Home - From 9/11 to Operation Iraqi Freedom A Military Mom Shares Her Family's Story of Patriotism, Courage and Love."

Thank you to the families who so painfully have shared their lives with us.

When I was a student of political science, I had a professor who read to us letters home from the war front. He had a collection of pieces from lots of different countries, but messages were remarkably the same - human beings caught up in situations and conflict far beyond their making and often beyond our comprehension, not writing for king and country, but writing of home, writing to home.

This collection follows many fine examples of this genre, from fourteen families; these letters are made all the more meaningful and poignant by the fact that their authors didn't return home alive. The concerns are very basic, but take on a palpable feel to them for the reader today -- care for home, family, plans for the future, honest emotion including fear. This collection spans the range of people from the most recent conflict -- it shows that many of the aspects of war are depressingly the same, no matter what historical era one is in.

The courage of the families to put forward this kind of emotional part of their lives is matched only by the courage of the men and women who themselves lost their lives. The book, companion to a documentary produced by HBO, strives to be non-political; far from being an indictment of the current administration, it focuses instead upon the people involved at the 'ground level' of the conflict. Many of the families are in fact supporters of President Bush, firm in their convictions that the sacrifice of their loved ones was done in the name of democracy and the country.

There is a forward by Senator John McCain, himself a veteran with experiences to tell, but even his family did not suffer the fate of receiving a last letter home from him.

On this Veteran's Day, originally Armistice Day, after the war-to-end-all-wars (that in fact did not), it is proper to remember also those involved in the current struggles, which includes families back home, whose connection is largely through letters, and whose prayers are always that there will be another letter soon, that no letter becomes the last letter home.

Read a part of our current affairs that will become a part of history in these letters, from the perspective of those actually doing the work in Iraq.

War letters are, by their nature, intensely emotional, honest and heartfelt documents. They are letters like no others, written when the extreme peril of battle forces one to look at life in an entirely new way. Moments and memories are cherished with an urgency they hadn't been before. The future is a dream.

Especially poignant among war letters are the last letters home. These messages may express many things--hope, pride, fear, exhaustion, love--but they take on an extraordinary new weight when the reader brings to them a foreknowledge of what has occurred. The letters in this LIFE book, from Robert Wise's comic pick-me-ups to his mom to Michelle Witmer's and Rachel Bosveld's dramatic accounts of action in Iraq to Jesse Givens's passionate last words to his young family--a letter that he told his wife not to open unless he was killed--give a thoroughly human face to the war in Iraq. Beyond the statistics are these lives, bravely lived.

In Last Letters Home, fourteen families share their stories with LIFE's readers and come before LIFE's cameras, just as several of them participated in the HBO/New York Times project of the same name, which has produced a documentary to air on Veteran's Day, November 11. It took courage for them to publicly recall bygone sons, daughters, spouses and parents. Courage--theirs and the courage of those now departed--is on every page of this book.

(Going Against the Grain)

(A frightening political system perpetrates and perpetuates fraud on the uninitiated voter.)

(It ain't necessarily so.)
What I find amazing is how did this this reporter ever get Abramoff to talk to him without his own lawyers and the federal prosecutors knowing about it. It's nice to hear the other side of the story...so persuasively and carefully documented. I don't think I'll ever believe anything I read in the newspapers again without a huge dose of skepticism.
This book seems to be well researched and makes the point that selective, one-sided, political arguments--political propaganda actually--are the norm in Congress, the Executive Branch and the Justice Department. I think we thoughtful voters realize all that and find it despicable, but what can we do about it? More about this later.**

As you read the book, you realize how much lobbyists run the country and the majority of our politicians. Greed often seems to be the lobbyists' and the politicians' bottom line. I don't come away feeling sorry for Abramoff, though I do worry about how much lobbyists can greatly influence the direction of the country.

The discussion in the book does make me wonder how much we really need to know about McCain's POW days, though I don't agree with those who argue that if he became president in Jan. 2009, he could eventually, possibly, be blackmailed by those who know the whole truth about his so-called collaboration with the N. Vietnamese while he was their prisoner. Of course, the KGB archives could have additional negative info about McCain's days as a POW and could TRY to blackmail him, but at this stage in his life that might be a futile gesture on the part of the KGB. We would know their motivation and perhaps wonder how we ourselves would have withstood inhumane treatment.

**Our beloved country is a mess. I'm discouraged, and I sometimes wonder why anyone bothers to run for office any more. Campaigning is a dreadful system AND BORING for viewers. But as a registered independent, I would argue that we need to register and vote our concerns but first by (1) studying the issues and the politicians, (2) canceling out the many lies spewed out by the candidates and their staff members--who apparently think we voters are stupid--and (3) by daring to speak the truth ourselves since much of the MSM doesn't, as you note from daily readings and Mr. Chafetz' book.

I gave the book only three stars because of the appalling lack of editing throughout. I often had to read sentences three or four times to figure out which words were missing or incorrect, and there were a lot of those! Publishers used to hire proof readers to do such editing, but I guess those individuals are a dying breed who cost the publishers too much money? There's that bottom line again. Still, I think the book is worth reading and do recommend it.

A few years ago, Gary Chafetz wrote a book on a notorious malpractice case in which he countered the easy, even lazy, journalistic narrative that dominated the headlines. The story had it that an elite Harvard psychotherapist led an unfortunate, confused working-class medical student to despair and suicide. Chafetz' research uncovered a quite different, and more plausible, story that re-focused he narrative and largely exonerated the psychotherapist from the most serious charges leveled against her. It also told a story of a successful professional, who had done much excellent work and was destroyed by the financial costs of defending herself. In his new book he examines Jack Abramoff, whose name has come to exemplify the rotten core of K Street Republican politics. Chafetz's book should be read widely, not only because he casts doubt on this most recent narrative of villainy...this time the story of the evil, powerful lobbyist who has robbed and defrauded naive Native Americans, but also, and more importantly, because he deals quite harshly with the role of John McCain in the affair. According to Chafetz, McCain's desire to destroy Abramoff arose more out of a personal grudge than from his desire to root out corruption nd in the process he was both unethical and dishonest. McCain, in Chafetz's analysis, shows a vindictive and deceitful side, one far from the "straight talk express" so beloved of the sound-bite corporate media. One doesn't have to accept all Chafetz's argument about Abramoff's activities to appreciate what he has accomplished in writing a carefully researched book against the grain of common wisdom and even against such fair-minded commentators as Bill Moyers. It may be that a very flawed man operating in a deeply flawed political culture has been made a scapegoat while another greatly flawed man is now the Republican candidate for the presidency. At any rate, voters should see this book soon.
Gary Chafetz is a liberal Boston journalist who set out to chronicle the scandal involving conservative gun-for-hire and super-lobbyist, Jack Abramoff. Instead he uncovered a Shakespearean tragedy of deceit, betrayal and political vendetta in which the true villains are Presidential aspirant John McCain, the Washington Post newspaper and the U.S. Department of Justice--all of whom participated in the railroading of an innocent man. Chafetz benefited from exclusive and unconditional access to the jailed Abramoff and to many never-before-released documents. The blizzard of stories originating from the Washington political machine painted Abramoff as an implausibly greedy lobbyist who cheated Indian tribes, bribed politicians and corrupted the political process--a fascinating tale but, ultimately, untrue. The true story, as Chafetz recounts in The Perfect Villain, is even more riveting and compelling.

A Lovestory that's quickly likable NOT TO BE MISSUNDERSTOOD A BRIDE FOR MCCAIN is A must read.Bravoooooo to MsMary Burton!!
1876 Sacramento, California and Prosperity, Colorado

Rough and gruff mine owner, Ross McCain wanted the children of Prosperity to have something he didn't have despite his success of operating flourishing mines. That was knowing how to read and to have an education. Lonely and desperate Jessica Tierney wanted the freedom to choose her own lifestyle and the frantic Jessica didn't deter the misunderstanding that lead Ross to believe she was Prosperity's newly obtained school teacher. Ross didn't want Jessica to know his secret of being illiterate as well as lonely, so can these two mismatched individuals possibly provide what the other needs?

An enjoyable quick and easy read.

Jessica Tierney has been forced to flee 1876 Sacramento, California and pose as a schoolteacher to avoid a marriage forced on her by her father's will. Ross McCain, Colorado mine owner is determined that the children in his town will have the opportunity to be educated. Ross talks Jessica into a marriage of convenience to keep her in town, not knowing that she is not who she seems to be. Mary Burton's first book is a very good story! After reading A Bride for McCain, I have two questions for Mary Burton, when is your next novel coming out, and will there be sequel? This book is full of characters I want to know. The main characters are richly drawn and the minor characters are written to weave well within the story line. The women are strong and the men are sensitive, yet written to the time period. Jessica, the main character, is a modern day heroine with a big problem. McCain is full of condradictions, all good. I loved it!
This is a romance novellette with everything the romantic of heart could want. A cowboy, a heroine, a small town in the west, a needy child and a wonderful and warm love story. It is about love and trust and how it is sometimes hard to make the two go hand in hand. The hero is a hard man that needs softening and a desperate young woman that needs to learn how to have faith in people again. I really loved this book and read it in one sitting. It is the first and so far only book I have found by Mary Burton so I hope we will see more of her writing in the future.
