I am a singer and am usually critical of these types of CD's, but the artist has a beautiful voice and I just love the renditions of the classics featured in this album. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a new baby girl (as one of the songs is "In my daughter's eyes"). It will bring tears to your eyes - in a good way! Music is an intimate connection to our lives. In celebration of motherhood, I proudly share the songs I sing to my daughter and those I sang as a child with my own mother. I hope you enjoy this, first release in my Intimate Collection series, with your own Bundle of Joy. - Eleanor

"Charlie Rose, Inc."(2006-08-10)
Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's review (A candiate for President) This interview took place in October 2005. Charlie Rose asks Sen. John McCain about a possible presidential run. McCain says he wishes to see what will happen in the mid- term elections in 2006. As we now know he would eventually enter the race. Rose talks with McCain about a whole host of issues, the Bush Supreme Court Appointments, the Bush Administration and Iraq, McCain's sense of what qualities a President should have, McCain's latest book on 'Character as Destiny' the heroes of McCain's life, the question of teaching 'Intelligent Design' along with 'Evolution' in the school- system, the major problems facing the country. We learn in the course of this to sense who McCain truly is. He certainly seems to be a person of great character, courage and integrity. The story of his refusing to be repatriated out of turn and therefore spending another five years in a Vietnamese prison where he was tortured and 'broken' is conclusive evidence of this. He also seems to be 'honest and straightforward'. At the same time surprisingly he seems somewhat hesitant and uncertain. He is not a strong speaker and certainly not charismatic. This program will not tell you whether or not McCain should be President but I believe it will give you a sense of who the man really is. Charlie Rose does his usual fine job of knowing very much about his guest, treating him with sympathy, and understanding. An hour-long conversation with Senator John McCain. They discuss President Bush, the Republican Party and his own possible run for the presidency. This product is manufactured on demand using DVD-R recordable media. (The Maturation of John McNasty)
(Nothing new)
(Election '08 foretold)
(BEFORE YOU VOTE READ THIS BOOK) Gave up after a hundred pages. Felt like a series of quotations from the books written by McCain himself, commented by the author. I didn't get the point. John McCain is first, last, and always, a social and political chameleon. Whatever John needs to look like, whatever John needs to say, whatever John needs to appear to be, John will be. According to the notes section in the back of the book, John McCain was thinking about being the President of the United States while he was a prisoner of war in Hanoi. It must have been nice to be so certain that you would make it back home, when so many prisoners of war did not. I wonder why the "Songbird" was so sure of his own future? And I will always wonder why John McCain single-handedly fought and eliminated the, "Bring the POW'S home/find the MIA'S movement", back in the 1990's? I believe that John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his running mate in order to draw attention away from his own past record. McCain knew that Palin would open her big mouth and the media would be focused on her instead of vetting out John McCain. (Keating-5 for instance) Don't illusionists usually have a pretty assistant to draw the onlookers attention away while the illusion is being performed?
Being a Maverick is an illusion.
John McCain is the, "Illusionist-Chameleon".
Didn't learn anything new, I was disappointed. Read the last chapter, it's the only part of the book that says anything. Anyone lucky enough to read this book before 11/04/08 had McCain's playbook in hand. Everything that undid McCain's candidacy is sketched here: McCain's belief in luck versus self-determination, his recklessness, his refusal to take counsel. Only the name "Palin" is missing. This is probably the best and only insight we will have from the well-trained US press about the McCain/Palin ticket.
Read it.
Learn the slippery snake the professionally pious want to sell you as the Second Coming (like they did Boy George in 2004).
All those extreme flip-flops in his politics? They were only due to deeper principles (read: pockets) . . .
This is the best profile you can get of John W. McCain. Read before voting. McCain is one of the most familiar, sympathetic and overexposed figures in American politics, yet his concrete governing philosophy and actual track record have been left curiously unexamined. In McCain, journalist and pundit Matt Welch offers a political portrait of a man onto whom people are forever projecting their own ideological fantasies. Rerations < McCain: The Myth of a Maverick >

(Adopted Son)
(fine contemporary romance)
(An emotional sensuous read) Texas Ranger Jeremiah `Tuck' Tucker has lived a life knowing the love of wonderful parents and the uncertainty of not knowing where he came from. He has decided he will only adopt children in need and not have any of his own.
Grace Whitten has spent her life making her father happy. After becoming a lawyer and head of the family law firm to make him happy, she realizes something. It is not enough. She needs more. If only she could figure out what she wants/needs.
One day, Tuck finds Brady, a neglected two-year-old boy. When he decides to adopt him and finds out that Grace is representing a couple that also want custody, their relationship goes to a new level.
Adopted Son tugs at the heartstrings. It looks at the subject of how vulnerable children can be and the lengths that are needed to bring said children to a safer place. Both Tuck and Grace develop and grow wonderfully during the story. The one thing I did not like about Adopted Son was that Ms. Warren specifies how Tuck does not want children of his own. And at the end of the book, he does a 180 without giving any new information, which was very inconsistent.
Barb Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed After answering a call asking for backup, Texas Ranger Jeremiah "Tuck" Tucker discovers an abandoned child at the crime scene. Little Brady has been neglected - and it turns out is he had no living family. Tuck is determined to give the two-year-old boy a home, and starts the process of adoption.
He's furious when he learns Grace Whitten, a lawyer and family friend, is representing a couple who also want Brady. She and Tuck have never gotten along, and now she's questioning his abilities as a parent. But once he finds out Grace's true intentions for the child, he feigns to see beyond the lawyer, to the woman. And to the potential wife and mother...
I have been having a hard time putting my feelings about this book into words. I really enjoyed the book. I found it very heartwarming. But I don't want to just stay that. Whenever I read one of Linda's books, the characters and circumstances feel very real to me that I can see the events of the book really happen. A woman seeking her meddling father's approval and support has neglected her personal life for her career. A man's desire to continue the work of his adopted parents and his connection with a little boy that he wants to give love and security. Their struggle to make sure the child is put into the perfect home. The novel is a perfect end to a great series.
The "street" date for Adopted Son is Sept 11. Put this great book on your wish list for this month, even if you haven't read the rest of the series. In Austin, Texas Ranger Jeremiah 'Tuck' Tucker finds the abandoned two year old at a crime scene. The evidence is overwhelming that the infant has been neglected and Tuck's heart reaches out to the little boy, who has no family or home. Tuck decides to adopt Brady.
However, attorney Grace Whitten represents another couple who want to raise the child. Tuck is irate as she is his half-sister-in-law's sister and so should be on his side. Grace who has been half in love with Tuck since she met him at her sister's wedding, drops out of the case because of personal interests. Her action opens up Tuck's mind to the sensitive caring woman who wants what is best for Brady.
Although the abandoned baby as a matchmaker has been used as a theme a zillion times, Linda Warren refreshes it with the legal battle over guardianship. Tuck and Grace are likable characters who each in their own way want what's best for Brady. Brady's history is horrifying as his addicted mom Nicole Harper neglects him, his grandmother is dying from cancer, and his biological father is dead. Fans will want the best too for the little guy while also seeking out the story of Tuck's half-brother Eli and Grace's sister Caroline (see FORGOTTEN SON).
Harriet Klausner
Jeremiah `Tuck' Tucker finds a toddler at the scene of a murder/suicide and finds himself touched by the young child's problems when no family members want to care for him. When he tries to adopt Brady, the young boy, he learns how hard it is for a single man to be granted custody of a non-relative, but continues the battle to make this little boy his first child.
Grace Whitten has become part of Tuck's extended family when his foster brother married her sister. Although these two are far from close, Tuck finds himself in a custody battle for Brady where she is legal counsel for the other party involved and it smarts that she does not think he is the best guardian. Grace just knows her friend from college longs for a child, and has her heart set on this little boy, when she finds out Tuck is involved, she must make a hard decision.
ADOPTED SON is a novel filled not only with romance but emotion. The emotions run from joy to heartbreaking sadness, from humor to horror and hits all the highs and lows in between. Linda Warren draws readers in from the first scene where Brady is alone and eating dog food to survive. Tuck's story will bring tears to reader's eyes when he tells the story of how he came to be the man he is today. Later tears of joy streamed down this reader's face when Tuck and Grace become the family they long to be.
Tuck is the man all mothers want their sons to become. There is not a character flaw that could ruin this man; his only downfall was the need to salvage his pride with Grace. When she finds herself in his sights as a potential enemy lust overtakes them both, and they find they need more than what either can handle alone. As the story heats up, Grace takes over her own life and tells her father just what she wants to do in life, instead of being Daddy's `son' and gives the story a dimension that makes this one of the best Harlequin Romance novels written, in this reviewers opinion.
ADOPTED SON was part of this month's Cowboy Country miniseries, and although it is a given that all cowboy hero's are hot, I highly recommend finding out for yourself just how hot this hero is, this novel is an emotional sensuous read that will leave you wanting your very own cowboy to make your dreams come true!

"Officer down! Officer down! We need help." Gunshots punctuated the frantic call that came through on Jeremiah Tucker's police radio. He listened closely to the dispatcher's response."There's a pile up on I 35. Hold on. Help is on the way. We're routing someone there now." Tuck's hands gripped the steering wheel. He'd known of the wreck, and had taken a detour on 12th Street through an Austin residential area. He was near the address, and unable to ignore a fellow officer in trouble. He swerved onto Springdale Road then sped down another street and whipped into a trailer park. customer 's review (Could we have SOME verisimilitude, please? Just a LITTLE?)
(Love and murder on the Iowa plains)
(McCain's Back and Better than Ever!)
(Great writing, superb characterizations) On the jacket of this book there is this recommendation:"No writer captures the mood of 50's America... better than Gorman."(EQMM)Now there's a statement doubtless composed by a bird born AFTER 1960! Look, I don't know where Gorman spent the fifties (he looks old enough to have been alive then) but if it was in America at all, he is deliberately decieving us. I was about the protagonist's age at the time of this book (1959) and I was in the midwest myself (Oklahoma, Missouri), but his world bears little or no resemblance to that all-too-real one. (About the only thing he gets right is that KOMA was indeed America's all-time greatest rock and roll station!) Talk about anachronism! Gorman's"fifties"is some kind of bizarre, revisionist dystopia where a 26 year old lawyer listens to Eddie Cochran, buys MANHUNT magazine, has 5 Harry Whittington Fawcett paperbacks on his bedstead at once, quotes W.H. Auden and E.M. Forster, and pickets a segregated diner! In Iowa, for pity's sake! It is a non-world where a deputy SHERIFF is made to say (in SINCERITY, no less) the following: "This is a man who's put a lot of brain hours into readin' up on commies. Plus he sees I WAS A COMMUNIST FOR THE FBI ever' time it's on at the drive-in."(Page 37) PUH-LEEZ!! You might think I'm a bit too aggravated, and you're right. It's prbably not as bad a book as it seems. Still, I'm getting tired of these kinds of books passing for modern hard-boiled fiction. We deserve better. Now, really, to a certain extent, all these newer hardboiled writers are guilty of all of this-- this half-researched revisionism; this annoying product name-dropping; this political-correctness-with-a-vengeance (especially when they try a period piece)-- but Gorman has taken it an extreme I honestly did not dream possible. Gorman's prose is so stilted and self-conscious and condescending that I can only assume the target audience is OTHER mystery writers. In fact, I am beginning to believe that that's how these guys win their various Edgar, Shamus, and Spur awards: by sitting around writing for EACHOTHER! The REALLY sad thing is that Gorman could definitely do better. (And has.) There are parts of this book that achieve real humor. (The lawyer's secretary is a good, funny character.) Also, the plotting is not bad, and the denouement is even a bit better. I think Gorman needs to take his idols (John D. MacDonald, W.L. Heath, et al) a bit more seriously as actual models. The old pulpsters wrote without pretension and concentrated on story above all. The fact that some of them were sensitive men and keen observers of what was around them will make their yarns live forever. Don't give me a brand name in every paragraph and forget your transparent political agenda. Concentrate on REAL working characters and a good story. After all, it's what Hammett would do. Bill Fish Ed Gorman's dimunitive detective, Sam McCain, has his hands full in this latest entry in the mystery series. Sam has loved, and lost, and loved again, and the concept of missed opportunities runs through this novel as a unique backdrop to the murder mystery within it.The great Red Scare is in full swing and even McCain's beloved Black River Falls with its quirky citizens and unique history fall to the whipped up hysteria. Sam keeps his cool, though, despite tripping over more bodies than a medical examiner trainee. A fatally wounded man stumbles to his office to die; a famous man, or as famous as a man from Black River Falls gets. Richard Conners -- rich, successful, and connected -- had wanted to hire McCain to "hold something" for him, and comes to McCain's office to die. McCain doesn't expect the bumbling police to solve the murder so he begins to look into it and almost immediately runs into a buzz saw in the form of Karl Rivers, a professed FBI agent looking for communists and communist sympathizers. When Rivers turns up dead in McCain's closet, Sam realizes there's somthing really serious going on in Iowa. The novel is introduced with a quote attributed to W. H. Auden: "I smell blood and an era of prominent madmen." Gorman does a marvelous job delivering the late 1950s to us as seen through the prism of a modest-sized Iowa town. The Red Scare is not limited to big cities. There are witch hunts everywhere, even in small town Iowa where a spinster teacher is seen as possibly subversive and has to publicly defend herself. Gorman populates his stories with interesting and engaging characters and does more than tell a good yarn. He leaves you feeling reminiscent of those long ago days when you could get a good breakfast for 60 cents, where a triple feature at the drive in costs a buck, and where a man could make a decent living as a private investigator in a small town, solving a murder. The story moves quickly and is satisfyingly layered. .... September 1959, Khrushchev is visiting Iowa and the citizens of Black River Falls are caught up in the"Red Scare". Richard Conners, a left-leaning professor, political writer and the town's biggest success story is murdered and found with a hammer and sickle painted in blood on his forehead. Sam McCain, a young lawyer who's just getting started and still earning most of his money with his private investigator's license is taking this crime personally. It seems Conner's body ended up dead in his office. Between the anti-communists and left-wingers, a jealous wife and various other citizens, not too fond of Conners, McCain doesn't lack for suspects. But when some of them start turning up dead, too, Sam knows this isn't just about politics. It's starting to look way too personal..... Ed Gorman has done it again. Taken you back to small town life in the nostalgic 1950s with a murder mystery that's just pure fun to read. His quirky, unrivaled cast of characters are wonderful. His writing crisp and smart and full of witty and irreverent dialogue and his vivid scenes, laugh-out-loud funny. This is the third book of a terrific series. If you're new to McCain and gang, start at the beginning with The Day the Music Died. If you're already a fan, you won't be disappointed. Easily read in one sitting, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow is a winner. In 1959 throughout the heartland, everyone knows the Ruskies are coming with Khrushchev visiting Iowa. The Soviet Premier's visit stirs up much activity as the anti-Communists shout"Better Dead than Red."Right wing activists target left wing sympathizing Americans such as noted local writer Richard Conners.Taking the threats to his life seriously, Richard turns to attorney-sleuth Sam McCain. However, someone still kills Richard painting a hammer and sickle on the victim's forehead. Sam begins to investigate his client's murder with the biggest problem being there is plenty of rabid suspects in Black River Falls. The third McCain trip back to the fifties is a wonderful trip back in time especially for the older members of the boomers. The story line is fun, the mystery is complex and taut, and the milieu is perfect as Ed Gorman presents Cold war bogeyman number one Khrushchev (with shoes on) visiting Iowa. Sam is a fabulous guide to the era. The historical tidbits add to the feel of a great novel that vividly brings to life an intriguing historical moment that only Mr. Gorman and perhaps the Chambers Brothers would understand. Harriet Klausner The acclaimed Sam McCain series continues - with another case of murder in America's mid-century heartland. In this charming, expertly crafted new mystery set in the twilight of Iowa's 1950s, fledgling lawyer Sam McCain is dancing to a different tune when he discovers that the beautiful blonde who's been tracking him in her black Ford convertible is interested in more than his red ragtop. She's Lila Leigh Mulchaey, and McCain's in love. Two problems, though, darken McCain's mood: Lila is pregnant, and Philip Mulchaey, her father - an outspoken advocate of left-wing causes who'd been fired from his job in the State Department during the McCarthy trials - stands at the center of the political storm surrounding the upcoming visit of Nikita Kruschev to Iowa. Then Philip Mulchaey turns up dead. That he was murdered for his politics, everybody, including McCain's sometime employer, the imperious Judge Esme Anne Whitney, assumes. McCain, however, is not so sure. Murder's usually more personal in Black River Falls. Rerations < Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?: A Sam McCain Mystery >
