(New Moon Poster) This is an amazing poster. I got it today and I was surprised that it arrived this early. The poster came out great and looks beautiful. Looks perfect on my bedroom wall. I love this poster.I think it is a great quality poster and was easy to unroll and hang up.If you are a big twilight fan and want to have a poster to hang up I would recommend this one.
I bought form the seller mostlyposters. I recived this poster last week from another website that I ordered it from. When it arrived, I totally forgot that I ordered anything, I was surprised to see how beautiful the poster actually is compared to what you see online. The colors are amazing and the actors fit into their emotions on the poster wonderfully.
I'd recommend this to any Twilight fan of either the book series, the movie or both.
I still need to hang it up though. :) This poster shows Edward in front, with Jacob and Bella behind him. At the bottom it says "The Twilight Saga: New Moon, 11.20.09". This poster measures approx. 24" x 36" New Moon (also known as The Twilight Saga: New Moon) is an upcoming romantic-fantasy film scheduled for release on November 20, 2009. It is based on the novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer and is the sequel to 2008's Twilight, which is based on Meyer's previous novel. Directed by Chris Weitz, the film will star Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, and Taylor Lautner, reprising their roles as Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, and Jacob Black, respectively. Bella is devastated by the abrupt departure of her vampire love, Edward, but her spirit is rekindled by her growing friendship with the irresistible Jacob. Suddenly she finds herself drawn into the world of the werewolves, ancestral enemies of the vampires, and finds her loyalties tested. Rerations < Twilight Movie Poster New Moon >

(A very good movie)
(The Jacksons Movie) I ordered this DVD a few weeks ago as a gift for my duaghter. We gave it to her a few days before her birthday the night Michael Jackson died. We viewed it over the next three nights and wow! My husband and I saw it when it aired on network television in the early nineties and thought it was great televison and a wonderful, great story then. But now, in the light of the global mourning over the death of Michael Jackson - it is just phenomenal. That family gave a lot to the entertainment industry and to the world. And the world loved them for it. My admiration, thanks and sincere appreciation go out to the Jackson Family and the producers (Jermaine Jackson and Motown Executive Suzanne DePasse were a couple of them) for making this "Amercian Dream" story. I watched this miniseries when it first came to television back in the 1990s. Love him or hate him, this is the time to wish all the best to Michael Jackson and his family. May he rest in peace, but in this nutty world of gossip news and wanting to trash people that cannot defend themselves, it most likely won't happen. I would definately get this movie if you want to watch a good story about such an iconic family. I have enjoyed being able to watch this movie without any commercial breaks or having to watch it as a two-part miniseries. I am very happy with my purchase. thank you The "Jacksons An American Dream" movie is one of the best movies I have seen! If you want to know the whole story of the Jackson's, this movie is the one to get! To sum it all down, it is very enjoyable to watch! I love it and I hope that everybody else will also! I got this movie for my daughter for a Christmas present, she has watched the movie several times. Long movie but like that it did not rush the story and it did not cut out a bunch of stuff. Really enjoyed the movie and glad we purchased, got tired of waiting for it to come on TV. Studio: Uni Dist Corp (music) Release Date: 10/18/2002 The miniseriesThe Jacksons: An American Dreambegins in the 1940s, when Joseph Jackson (Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs) and Katherine (Angela Bassett) meet and fall in love, and ends in the 1980s, when their sons reunite for the 1983 Victory Tour that brought them back together as the Jacksons. During the first part, "The Early Years," the couple starts a family, and although times are tough, Joseph still finds time to play music on the side. When he discovers that his sons have inherited the same talent, the Jackson 5 are born. They sign with Motown and start churning out the gold records. The second part, "The Success Years," begins in 1970 at the peak of their fame, but by 1976, the hits have started to dry up. If the acting is uneven and the story somewhat sanitized, Bassett is affecting, and the series includes Emmy-winning choreography and a combination of original and re-created material, ranging from "I Want You Back" (1969) to Michael Jackson's "Beat It" (from 1982's multi-platinumThriller).--Kathleen C. (More Than Meets the Ears)
(Not Amazing, but, um, unoriginal)
(Hands Down Amazing!)
(Too much like his Mentor) Having watched the film (which was as good as the first ) I was disappointed that the score doesn't quite live up to the fantastic score for the first film. It is almost fifteen minutes shorter than the first score and while the music is good, after a few listens none of the tracks really managed to get in my head as being memorable, in stark contrast to the first score.
If you enjoyed Steve Jablonsky's score for Transformers (2007), then you'll enjoy his score for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen! First of all, let me tell you my disposition towards this; I thought the first Transformers movie was just OK, and I thought the latest one was pretty terrible. One of my gripes over the first movie was that the score sounded WAY too similar to earlier works of Jablonsky's master, Hans Zimmer, such as Batman Begins and Pirates 2. Well it's the same problem here, only back with a vengeance! I can understand if Jablonsky can sometimes sound similar to Zimmer. But not all the time. Heck, sometimes he just takes melodies straight out of Zimmers other works, alters them slightly, and puts them right in. People may say it's amazing, but it's just rehashed ideas and the biggest difference is that it's LOUDER. But I must say the one thing that worked the best was the track NEST with the Linkin Park instrumentals. If they had kept that as the theme for the whole movie, they would have been set. Otherwise it's just been there, done that. I must say that after the first Score, I didn't think Steve J could top it but he did. It is so amazing and so powerful. I can remember every scene from the movie where these songs played and its great. I don't buy many CD's but for any Transformers fan or any fan of orchestra music, DO NOT hesitate to buy these, you won't be disappointed. Well, this is an overall good score. Yet, it would have been excellent if it's release would have been prior to Hans Zimmer's King Arthur. "Prime's" theme is too similar for my likings to Hans Zimmer's theme played at the end of "Woad to Ruin" or "All of Them" from King Arthur.
Really, I know that Steve Jablonsky was Zimmer's apprentice, but it is because of Jablonsky's lack of originality that I listened to this score and decided not to buy it, even though it's fairly good (yet, King Arthur is way better). During these last months, the most notable original scores, in my opinion, have been: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Alexandre Desplat), Angels&Demons (Hans Zimmer), Terminator Salvation (Danny Elfman) and Up (Michael Giacchino).
If you don't have many works of Hans Zimmer, then by all means, buy this one. But if you are like me, who have almost every Zimmer score, the truly powerful parts of this soundtrack may sound too familiar to other soundtracks from your collection...
I hope to hear more from Jablonsky, but I also hope that he finds his own style without trying too hard to sound like his mentor. (A reason to practice)
(Great skills)
(Good informative video) I really enjoyed this DVD. The production is excellent and there are some great tips. For the length of the DVD there really wasn't a lot of different things covered. Phil concentrates on just a few topics but explores them thoroughly. If you don't like Phil's corny media persona you will find yourself wanting to throw things at the screen. If you can get past it you will find some great tips and techniques you can use forever. My short game initially suffered as I tried to implement Phil's putting and chipping principles.I am pleased to advise that I have turned the corner. Now that I have better FEEL in both my chipping and putting strokes, my confidence is increasing and as such the chips are getting closer and more putts are dropping. Very good instruction. Now, there is a reason to practice. Before I just tried to find something that felt good--and that changed round by round. The DVD is great I have tried some of the skills and believe that it has help me in my short game. I bought this right after it was released. I'm left handed so it was refreshing to see an instructional video from my side of the ball. My game and Phil's are not that similar. He lines up his putt sight line from slightly inside and behind the ball. My putting style is more over the ball. I tried his technique but wasn't comfortable with it. I found the chipping section to be the most helpful. The ball placement and hinge and hold technique have improved my short game. After hours of practice I've increased my control and confidence around the greens. The video focuses too much on Phil's stroke and doesn't show the distance he is from the green and how much roll it has after landing. I think this would have been helpful. Sand technique is difficult to duplicate in some of the harder packed bunkers I hit out of on my home course. Probably works best in the perfectly groomed bunkers tour players use. Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 04/07/2009 Run time: 110 minutes Rating: Nr Arnold Palmer has one. Jack Nicklaus has one. And now, Phil Mickelson has one. No, we're not talking about the Masters championships (although Mickelson has three of those), but a golf instruction video. Emmy-winner Terry Jastrow, who produced Palmer's and Nicklaus' own bestselling videos, brings his keen eye to this master class that concentrates on what Mickelson calls "the most important part of the game" (half of all shots played take place inside 50 yards, he states). Over the course of this nearly two-hour program, Mickelson demonstrates putting, chipping using his advocated "hinge and hold" method, bunker play, and his signature "flop shot." In an entertaining segment, he also demonstrates two specialty shots, a "Two Balls in Bunker" shot (don't try this at home) and the "Backward Over-the-Head" shot. The demonstrations are repeated in slow-motion and seen from a variety of angles. This program is for the serious golfer, but beginners need not feel too intimidated. Mickelson is a natural in front of the camera and is able to impart a lot of information in a relaxed style that makes even the most advanced concepts accessible. As one golf commentator exults during one of the dramatic highlights clips included as a bonus feature, this is as good as it gets.--Donald Liebenson Rerations < Phil Mickelson: Secrets of the Short Game >

(VERY DISAPPOINTED)
(Best movie most people never saw!!!) Not happy with it, No one told me that it was comming from out of the U.S.A. so now it will not play in my dvd player. I will ont buy from you again NOT HAPPY!!!! I've seen the movie many times and own it in VHS format. I unfortunately didn't understand about "Region" in DVD so I had to return it to the seller. The seller was very helpful and the return was not a problem at all. If you have a player that's Region Free or can play Region 2, you can buy this movie NEW at Amazon UK for less than it's offered here. I looked in all the usual places (half.com, google search, etc.) and found Amazon to have the best price. But noticed it was Region 2 so went to Brit Amazon, got it for $10 including shipping. Right now the British Pound is fairly weak compared to the US Dollar, so prices are often better there.
WHEN I RECEIVED THIS CD, IT WOULD NOT PLAY ON MY CD PLAYER. THERE WAS A MESSAGE ON THE SCREEN THAT SAID I COULD NOT PLAY IT BECAUSE I HAD CHOSEN THE WRONG REGION. I WAS NEVER AWARE THAT YOU HAD TO CHOOSE A REGION. I THOUGHT THAT IF YOU WERE ORDERING FROM THE US THAT YOU WOULD AUTOMATICALLY GET THE CD FOR THE CORRECT REGION. There are few movies in my life that I paid to see multiple times in a theater, this is one of them. I took everyone who would listen as did my wife, this probably had a longer showing in Marietta GA than anywhere else in the US. The movie is great on Television, but on the big screen it is absolutely majestic. The scenery alone is worth the price of the movie. Tom Berenger and Barbara Hershey both play their respective roles to perfection, and the Indians are very real. The plot seems possible though it is unlikely. Who goes to the movies to deal with reality though?
This is among the most entertaining movies I've ever seen, as soon as or if it is done on blu-ray I'll buy at least 3 copies, probably 5. For the record, my wife thinks this is the best movie she's ever seen too. It really is better on a larger screen, but at this point, I take what I can get. Despite an irritating, tacked-on voice-over narration that somebody must have thought was necessary to make sense of the story (it wasn't),Last of the Dogmenis actually a very moving and magical film. Tom Berenger plays a Montana bounty hunter who helps an anthropologist (Barbara Hershey) search for the descendants of a Cheyenne tribe who disappeared in the 1870s. What the two find in a remote mountain stretch is an entire community of Cheyenne who have kept themselves cut off from the modern world. ADances with Wolvesparallel emerges as the white outsiders gradually fit in, butLast of the Dogmenstands up just fine without comparison to any other films. As in Kevin Costner's Oscar-winning movie, however, there are ways in which this film captures a similar sense of yearning, mystery, and loss.--Tom Keogh Rerations < Last of the Dogmen [VHS] >

(Billy Blanks 8 Minute Workout)
(Awesome Kick Butt Workout) I received emails when my order was received as well as when it would ship. Arrived in great condition. I am really enjoying my work out video's. Although it took some getting use to VHS again but overall, they are in excellent condition. I have been looking for this for several years. About ten years ago, as a sophomore in college, I used the VHS tape of Billy Blank's Basic video to lose 20 pounds fairly quickly. I did it 3-4 times a week for several years, and always looked forward to the next time I put in the tape. Well it got so worn out that it broke, and I've spent a long time looking for a DVD copy. (Who has a VCR anymore?)
This time around I have a bit more work to do, and Im excited to receive my DVD in the mail. Taebo basic is a workout that I felt was more like a spiritual/physical routine. And you enjoy perfecting that flow time and again. Sure the music and production quality are true to their era, which is a testament to Blanks' authenticity and staying power. Bottom line: Taebo works. I have really enjoyed this video. A team of us at work are doing the 8 minute workout during our safety meeting and then at lunch. I have mastered the 8 minute workout and will proceed at home doing the Basic. At work we will continue to do the 8 minute workout until the group is ready to move forward at lunch to the Basic. I would and have recommended this video to friends of mine. I have being doing the 8 minute workout for 5 weeks now and I can feel and see the results. TAEBO REALLY WORKS!!!! I get stuck in a rut of routine workouts where I find myself not obtaining results for as much as I work out. I thought I would try kickboxing (something different) and had heard that this particular Tae Bo series (the orignal) of workouts was hard and challenging but great results for those that stick with it. I am addicted. These workouts are very easy to follow (basic counting; no fluff) but makes you work up a sweat and gets your heart rate up. I have noticed just doing the basic 27 minute workout three times a week for two weeks that my stomach is a lot more toned as well as my legs are starting to show definition. I am ready to graduate and try the advanced workout and mix it up. Billed as the "future of fitness" and hawked by numerous celebrities, Billy Blanks's Tae-Bo actually deserves much of the hype it's receiving. A mixture of boxing punches and martial arts kicks, Tae-Bo is funandeasy. One of the best elements of this four-tape set is that the first tape (which is 40 minutes long),Tae-Bo: Instructional, lays out the movements you need to successfully complete a workout. Once you've mastered the steps, you won't have to fast-forward through half the tape to get to the workout, nor will your workout be slowed down by the repeated lessons. After you feel comfortable with the movements (and they're really quite easy to follow; nothing too complicated to trip you up), you're ready to move on toTae-Bo: Basics, a 27-minute workout (5 minutes of warm-up, 18 minutes of Tae-Bo, and 4 minutes of cool-down) that will have your heart pounding and your body sweating. Next comesAdvanced, a 57-minute workout that will have your heart racing, pulse pounding, and sweat glands working overtime. There's razzmatazz on the moves, with slightly more complicated combinations that should be fairly easy to master if you've completed the first two tapes. This video seriously raises the bar on the difficulty factor. In addition to the short warm-up, the cool-down, and the 30 minutes of Tae-Bo,Advanced Tae-Boalso includes 18 minutes of muscle-crunching floor work. You know you're in trouble when even the guys in the tape have trouble keeping up. Make sure you have truly mastered the first two tapes before attempting this one. The8-Minute Workoutis a highly compacted workout (actually 14 minutes long when you include warm-up and cool-down) for those days when you're too short on time forBasicorAdvanced. While the 8-minute idea is compelling, it's not an adequate substitute for the longer workouts. Blanks, a seven-time World Martial Arts champion, is a superb instructor, providing encouragement and careful instruction (if you don't know by the end of the tape to hold in your stomach, that's no one's fault but your own). The only downside to these tapes is the less-than-exciting music. Not only is Tae-Bo great exercise for all levels, but the punches and kicks are wonderful for working out stress and aggression. This istheaerobics exercise video for people who are bored by aerobics.--Jenny Brown Rerations < Tae-Bo Workout (SET OF 4: Basic, Instructional, Advanced, 8-minute Workout) [VHS] >

("If (it) didn't happen exactly this way, it should have.")
(Fun for Elvis lovers and nonlovers alike.)
("You can't make this up...")
(The King goes to DC!) I am not a big Elvis fan however this is a great movie! A must see for everyone, Elvis fan or not, you will love this movie! Another "made-for-Showtime" original movie that wildly exceeded expectatations (see also my review of the Patrick Stewart vehicle "Safe House"), "Elvis Meets Nixon" details the two days in December of 1970 when Elvis Presley, for reasons known but to himself, left his home in home in Memphis, Tennessee on his own for the first time in his adult life, criss-crossing the country to Washington, DC, then to Los Angeles, CA, and finally back to DC for a meeting with...President Richard Nixon.Of course it's all a dramatization of events, and perhaps more than just a bit of artistic license has been taken with the two main characters' personalities. But as an Elvis fan who holds the artist and the man with reverence, I found this to be one of the funniest movies I have ever watched. The almost child-like detachment from reality with which Elvis and Nixon lived their lives at the time is incomprhensible at times. Bob Gunton's portrayal of President Nixon rivals that of Dan Hedaya in "Dick" (also made by Canadians, by the way) for sheer genius of comedic timing, and Rick Peters is so amazing as Elvis (the "doughnut shop in DC" scene is one of the most amazingly surreal moments I've ever seen on film...and I own "Bubba Ho-tep", as well) that it took my about six viewings of this movie to realize that he has brown eyes rather than the King's royal blue (how did that detail get overlooked in pre-production?). Everything that occurs in this movie takes place from a slightly skewed angle; of course it could not possibly happen today (could it?), but to the amazement of everyone, Elvis was able to pull it off some 35 years ago ("Watch and learn, son...watch and learn"). The "interviews" with contemporary artists Wayne Newton, Tony Curtis, and Stephen Stills(?) as well as Dick Cavett and the surviving "characters" associated with Elvis and Nixon at the time are hilarious, as well. The documentary angle is well-played, but the individual performances of Peters and Gunton (try to keep a straight face whenever Nixon swears in this movie, I dare you) are really what carry this movie. For better or worse, Elvis and Nixon did more to shape the culture of the second half of the 20th Century than practically anyone else; it is natural that they seem somehow inevitably drawn together, and this movie tells the story the way I truly and dearly wish it had actually happened. I'll be watching it tonight (16 August, "Ascension Day", as I call it) eating doughnuts and cheeseburgers. You'd do well to check this one out, as well. I just recently saw this movie with a group of friends, some die-hard fans like myself, and others who know very little about Elvis. This movie was great! Everyone enjoyed and laughed out loud at the absurdity of the reality these two men lived in. Both were so out of touch with everyday life... they were destined to find each other in this truly ironic way.
As a life-long fan, and someone who has seen virtually every incarnation of Elvis, real or unreal or surreal, on film - I can truly say this is informative inspite of it's inevitable truth and silliness. You really can't make this stuff up. If you can find this one, pick it up immediately!
Of course, most of it is an "artists impression", but based on what everyone knows about these two men with many eccentricities and very strong personalities. Bob Gunton does a great Dick Nixon and Rick Peters does a really good Elvis, minus the singing voice. The factuality which the story is based on is the letter Elvis sent to Nixon which is fantastic itself and the photo of Elvis in the purple cape suit with the President in the Oval Office - proof that the meeting did occur.
Of course the film is meant to be a comedy, and it is very funny. A lot of the funny stuff is based on "legends" that have a good grounding in the truth as well: Elvis really did stop at a donut shop on his way to the Washington Hotel and he really did check in then fly to LA without checking out. We're told that by the narrator's who are played by themselves - Graham Nash, Tony Curtis, Art Linklater, Wayne Newton who repeatedly intone "You can't make this up!"
If you like political satire and character studies you'll enjoy it, if the only comedy you enjoy is slap-stick and sit-com style comedy, then you might not get it. I saw this movie on Showtime back in 1998, and have been hoping it will break into the DVD market soon. A brilliant account of true events. It gives you an enjoyable experience of the King of Rock and Roll, as he journeys around Haight-Ashbury and then around DC, ultimately visiting with President Nixon in the hopes of becoming a DEA agent to fight the war on drugs. (Awesome Optimus!)
(For the Transformer lover)
(Only one Transformer) Once put together, this thing was larger than the fathead. Really nice gift for the Transformer fans. When my husband and I were ready to put this on the wall we were happy to see it came in sections. We have older children that have another brand of the same type of product that are just as good, but come in one piece. Optimus was so easy to put together and looks awesome on my 4 year old's wall. He loves how it looks and the transparency makes him look like he is in the room not on the wall. Great product!! This is a must have for any fan of Transformers. It is 3 feet tall and looks great on my son's wall. The Transformer is cool, but I think the description is misleading. When it said 5 pieces, I thought that meant 5 different Transformers. It's really only Optimus Prime, and the 5 pieces are the body, arms, and legs. I thought we'd be decorating the whole room with it, but it's only for one wall! This is an adorable set of Transformers Super Jumbo appliques. There 5 self- adhesive, pre-cut,reusable wall stickers that have removable, self-stick appliques of Transformers we all love!
5 pieces of Peel&Stick technology; will adhere to any smooth surface. Removable and repositionable. Washable with mild soap and sponge.

(Great idea)
(Transformers Wall Stickers) They are great. I think the biggest one is 12 inches. The only problem I have with thee is the fact that it is alot of gray in the coloring of the transformers... so your walls look kind of dull... if they are white. My suggestion don't get these unless you have a color on your walls other than white. These were a gift for my 6 year old son. We recently added on to our house and I really didn't want to put any holes in the walls or mess up the new paint, but I did want my son to be able to decorate his new room. I found these and thought I would take my chances and try them. These worked out great. We have had these for about a month and you can still peel them off and reapply them. They haven't messed up the walls at all and my son has a great time rearranging his room every once in a while. The only reason I didn't give them five stars is because with some of the bigger ones or any that have a small piece like a foot or a hand you have to be careful peeling them off or they rip. I have just told my son to let me help him peel them and as long as you peel slowly they do not rip. Otherwise this is a wonderful idea for any room. My 12 year old son loves these stickers. They are much bigger than alot of the other wall stickers we have seen. They are easily stuck to the wall and if they need to be moved they restick with no problem. Transformers Decorative Wall Stickers (20 + wall stickers) . Self-stick, removable, and reusable Jumbo Wall Stickers are the easy way to decorate and won't damage your walls!
It's so quick and amazing , just peel and stick!

Stickers sizes vary from 5" to 12" tall.Decorate in minutes!!

(DISAPPOINTED!)
(Great movies)
(review of item and service)
(Best Clint Eastwood film) If, as I've heard rumored, Gran Torino turns out to mark Clint Eastwood's final film role, he'll at least have gone out with another memorable performance to add to his long list. Portraying the unlikely friendship that develops between a disaffected 70-something Korean War vet and the son and daughter of a Hmong family that lives next door, the movie is a surprisingly affecting and at times even funny story of personal redemption and cultural collision. With a backdrop of urban decay and gang violence, it also makes for an interesting portrait of the continuing decline of the American city, even if its ultimate focus is more personal. Much like The Wrestler, another of the past year's best films, Gran Torino provides a look at the kind of people and areas many of us don't see in our daily lives, let alone in movies, and portrays its characters sympathetically without neglecting their flaws.
The film is largely carried by Eastwood, whose well-established tough-guy identity gets a new twist in the form of Walt Kowalski, a retired Ford worker who stubbornly clings to his house and his old-school ways in a Detroit neighborhood that's rapidly being taken over by immigrants and a larger world that no longer seems to be his own. In a way, Walt represents the flip side of Eastwood's iconic characters and persona: he's The Man With No Name turned into a dinosaur, Dirty Harry rendered irrelevant by changing times. We first see Walt snarling his way through his beloved wife's funeral, angered by the various signs of modernity he sees around him and the lack of respect shown by his descendents. As the movie goes on we get a better idea of the reaons for Walt's anger: his sons have grown into suburban yuppies with overprivileged brats for children, and his middle-class neighborhood has come to be dominated by minorities, especially Hmong immigrants whom he describes using a variety of disparaging epithets. This is clearly a guy who's not too familiar with the concept of political correctness and who feels no need to discard the prejudices he's taken for granted his whole adult life.
It would be easy, especially at first, to dismiss Walt as a simple crank and bigot, and while that description wouldn't necessarily be inaccurate it wouldn't tell the whole story either. In his own way, Walt is an idealist, one who believes in certain values--patriotism, self-sacrifice, hard work, proper lawn care--that he believes (rightly or not) aren't shared by his new neighbors. As we see through a series of conversations with the well-meaning local priest, Walt has fallen victim in his old age to a combination of cynicism, alienation, and racial hatred, born of his harrowing experiences in Korea and a mounting disgruntlement at a world that's relentlessly changing around him. The film does do a pretty good job (largely through Walt's growled declarations to himself) of allowing the viewer to see the world through the eyes of an aging man who's surrounded by the unfamiliar and having a hard time adjusting to it. Charged at age 78 with largely carrying the film, Eastwood has the difficult task of turning Walt from a caricature to fully fleshed-out character over the course of two hours, a feat that few others could pull off but that's helped immensely by his natural gravity and his own gritty, stark direction.
While Walt may seem like a giant ball of hate at first, he does eventually start to warm up to his teenaged Hmong neighbor Sue (Ahney Her) and later to her brother Thao (Bee Vang), even after Thao tries to steal Walt's prized 1972 Ford Gran Torino as part of a gang initiation. The bond that gradually emerges between Walt and Thao may be unlikely at first based on Walt's obvious hostility toward other races, but it eventually comes to seem perfectly natural because they're both committed to maintaining their integrity in a world that doesn't seem to have much room for it. Thao is trying to make his own way in an immigrant society of limited horizons, with few options for the future beyond taking a menial job or joining his cousin's gang, when Walt sees enough potential in him to try to help him overcome the limitations of his surroundings. Vang has to turn Thao into a real, conflicted person rather than just an idealized symbol of his people, and while he's not as good as Eastwood he still does an admirable job of keeping up with his legendary costar. Scenes of Walt developing a comfort level with his Hmong neighbors carry an almost sociological fascination, along with the irony of a cranky old racist getting absorbed into the world of Asian immigrants while his relationships with his own family become increasingly strained.
Overall, in spite of a few flaws, Gran Torino manages to be a largely excellent movie. The opening scenes of Walt expressing his seemingly all-consuming bitterness and hatred can get a bit tiresome, and the ending is a little over-the-top and dramatic compared to what preceded it, but there's still more than enough quality material to make this film worth watching. The slower, more contemplative middle section is actually the most interesting part of the movie, as we see the challenges faced by both the aging Walt and the coming-of-age Thao in their daily lives, as well as the slow, awkward process of Walt letting his guard down enough to become a mentor to Thao. Those looking for a change of pace from the never-ending stream of remakes and TV and comic-book adaptations coming out of Hollywood could certainly do a lot worse.
I purchased this DVD because I so love Clint, but...I was really disappointed ,the acting was so bad, characters unknown, and down-right embarrassing! And, then I recall another movie Clint was in: Bronco Billy, and that sucked also....i do not recommend wasting you time or money on this movie! This was a fantastic movie. It portrayed a grumpy old veteran who has all his old stereotypes perfectly. Clint Eastwood made a great choice when he decided this was his last film.
The characters, though maybe not the best actors, still have a lot of dynamic to them - something that you miss in a lot of recent movies. The priest is a good man who cares about his flock, which is a much better (and true) representation of a Catholic priest than any other movies that have come out lately with a priest in it.
I would watch this over No Country for Old Men any day. This was a great movie! The item was delivered ahead of schedule and we were highly satisfied with the item and the expedient arrival. I really am disgusted with the Oscars for not being able to recognize a film like this or Valkerie in the same year. Unbelievable. Clint Eastwood's perfect film. It brings all the toughness, tenderness, suspense, and humanity of any of his other films and crystalizes them into a work of art everybody should see. DISGRUNTLED KOREAN WAR VET WALT KOWALSKI SETS OUT TO REFORM HIS NEIGHBOR, A YOUNG HMONG TEENAGER, WHO TRIED TO STEAL KOWALSKI'S PRIZED POSSESSION: HIS 1972 GRAN TORINO. Clint Eastwood'sGran Torino, an unassuming picture shot during a post-production lull on his elaborate period pieceChangeling, was quietly rolled out at Christmastime 2008, whereupon it proceeded to blow away all the Oscar-bait behemoths at the box office and win its 78-year-old star the best reviews of his acting career. Both film and performance are consummately sly--coming on with deceptive simplicity, only to evolve into something complex, powerful, and surprisingly tender. Just asUnforgivenwas a tragic reflection on Eastwood's legacy in the Western genre,Gran Torinocaps and eloquently critiques the urban heritage ofDirty Harryand his violent brethren. And on top of that, the movie becomes a savvy meditation on America in a particular historical moment, racially, economically, spiritually. Call it a "state of the union" message. But call it that with a wry grin. The latest Dirty Harry is actually a grumpy Walt: Walt Kowalski (Eastwood playing his own age), widower, Korean War veteran, retired auto worker, and the last white resident of his Detroit side street. It's hard to say who irks him more--his blood kin (a pretty lame bunch) or the Hmong families who are his new neighbors. Kowalski's a racist, because it has never occurred to him he shouldn't be. Besides, that's the flipside of the mutual ethnic baiting that serves as coin of affection for him and his working-class buddies. Circumstances--and two young people next door, the feisty Sue (Ahney Her) and her conflicted brother Thao (Bee Vang)--contrive to involve Walt with a new community, and anoint him as its hero after he turns his big guns on some ruffians. The trajectory of this may surprise you--several times over. Eastwood opted to film in economically blighted Detroit--a shrewd decision, but it's his mapping of Walt's world in that classical style of his that really counts. Every incidental corner of lawn, porch, and basement comes to matter--and by all means the workshop/garage that houses the mint-condition Gran Torino which Walt helped build in a more prosperous era. This is a remarkable movie.--Richard T. Jameson Rerations < Gran Torino (Widescreen Edition) >

(Great combinations)
(Loved it!) Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred offers you a quick, efficient workout with a knowledgeable, supportive trainer. I have a busy schedule, and this workout helps me burn calories and tone my body in less than 30 minutes. Jillian not only gives you 3 fitness level workouts, but each level has begining and advanced option. This workout DVD will last you a long time. WOAH! you want a workout? get ready. jillian is gonna kick ur butt! BUT she is an excellent instructor and works every inch of your body and before you know it youre done! cardio&strength in one workout and she keeps it just under 30 mins (including warmup and cool down) this workout is great! This is the best excercise DVD I have ever used. I typically jog for exercise, but when it gets really hot, in the summer, in Central Texas, its nearly impossible to jog outside after 9AM. I bought this DVD to help me get in my daily exercise, when I miss my morning run. I actually think I burn more calories doing this DVD than I do on a 30 minute run.
The first time through I was very sore a couple days later, but felt stronger and tighter all ready. I would compare the exercises in this DVD to some of the classes offered at the gym, where you use light weights and do high reps.
I highly recommend this DVD, but would caution against doing it if you are an extreme beginner. I think it would be too tough for someone who is not all ready working out. After letting my health club membership expire late last year, I started looking around for some free exercise options. I suppose it is not technically "free", but I found my cable company offered many workout programs "on demand" anytime I wanted to workout. My wife got me watching The Biggest Loser a couple of years ago, so I tended towards the workouts from those trainers that I recognized.
I can say, as a 30-year-old man in above average shape, that Jillian's workouts are great. The mix of strength, cardio, and abs in different circuits keeps your mind engaged, and with pushups, shoulder lifts, and bicep curls I feel that most all of my male-related muscles are being worked. I have noticed more quickness in my weekly basketball games and definitely get off the ground better for rebounds. My wife and I liked the "Shred" so much that we purchased the DVD, so that we can use all levels at anytime we want. Thanks, Jillian! I'm going to keep this review short and to the point. I'm 18 and I've always struggled with my weight. I really liked this dvd. I used it and I lost weight and I felt so much better physically and mentally. If you stick to it and really apply yourself this dvd works. Studio: Lions Gate Home Ent. Release Date: 03/18/2008 Run time: 60 minutes Rating: Nr Rerations < Jillian Michaels - 30 Day Shred >

(Great film, mediocre transfer)
(Great Movie; Disappointing Restoration) I am not going into reviewing this item as there is plenty available. But I want to say SHAME ON YOU SONY for putting a lengthly self congratulatory commercial at the beginning of the movie, you cannot get out and to the main menu, a confusing like hell menu, not one but 4 warnings of this or that before to finally coming to the movie. This is a disgrace on top of BD being SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW to finally get to do something useful. One of my top 5 all-time favorite movies. But, as has been noted by other reviews, the transfer is terrible. To add insult to injury, the special features are not special at all. The DVD collectors series looks better on my HD screen, and is packed with extra's. Very disappointed. Classic Movie In Blu Ray Now, All I Can Say Is Its Worth The Money An Brings Back Memory's When I Was A Kid, 5 Stars It's worth saying "I LOVE THIS FILM!" for context.
The Blu-Ray transfer, though, is quite disappointing. All in all, for a movie of that's actually newer than Blade Runner or The Empire Strikes Back, the quality is way lower than one would expect.
Interestingly, the worst grain problems are in the introductory scenes in the public library, and the one "the dead are rising?" scene, which is just terribly grainy. After the library, the quality gets somewhat better, but as noted above, it simply falls short of what one should expect from a high-budget blockbuster from that era. I purchased a couple of the James Bond Blu-Ray reissues such as Dr. No. The restorations (I think they slang them "4K"'s) were almost too good. I could see the makeup on characters. a mole on Sean Connery's face. The scenery and coloration were awesome, but in some ways it was almost too good.
Sad to say, Ghostbusters does not follow that quality of restoration. The story and comedy are second to none. The effects still hold up after 25 years. But honestly, I've seen better quality rebroadcasts of this movie on my cable provider's HD channels, and we all know how much they cut the bitrates, despite their denials.
It appears they spent next to nothing on restoration of this movie. It certainly rates as good a treatment as Dr. No or From Russia With Love.
You won't find a more sympathetic reviewer than me towards this movie, but I just can't understand why no one cared much about the video quality. It really looks little better than a DVD upsampled on a high-end DVD player. Sad. At least the movie's still funny. Studio: Sony Pictures Home Ent Release Date: 06/16/2009 Run time: 105 minutes Rating: Pg Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis wrote the script, but Bill Murray gets all the best lines and moments in this 1984 comedy directed by Ivan Reitman (Meatballs). The three comics, plus Ernie Hudson, play the New York City-based team that provides supernatural pest control, and Sigourney Weaver is the love interest possessed by an ancient demon. Reitman and company are full of original ideas about hobgoblins--who knew they could "slime" people with green plasma goo?--but hovering above the plot is Murray's patented ironic view of all the action. Still a lot of fun, and an obvious model for sci-fi comedies such asMen in Black.--Tom Keogh Rerations < Ghostbusters [Blu-ray] >

(Truly "natural")
(Popcorn fanatic)
(Plenty of Popcorn!)
(Taste is good but too much "mystery fat") In Sept of 2008 I ordered my customary case of this popcorn....after realizing that the name had been changed but the ingredients were the same. At least half of that case of 3-packs were dry and burned when cooking. These bags were tough and tasteless, not light and fluffy as I had come to expect. I have not received satisfactory treatment from the manufacturer, but I'll be persistent and hope to get at least half of my money refunded as half of the popcorn went into the trash. First let me correct the amazon.com description (how did they get so far off?). The bags make under 5 cups each, and the fat used is palm oil which doesn't go rancid like soy oil at room temperature and the palm oil contains health-promoting natural carotenes which account for its orangish color.
The popcorn is delicious. You can get popcorn w/no added fat, but that is not satisfying so you tend to eat more. Eaten in moderation this product is healthful. The small amount of fat also allows you to add herbs or spices or garlic to it if you want, and it will stick to the corn. I make mine very peppery so I get a wallop of flavor and eat less. This variety is hard to find in the supermarkets even if they carry other Redenbacher popcorns, so thank heaven amazon.com is selling it. Enjoy. This is the best popcorn that I have ever tasted. I cannot find this at my local grocery store. When I ruin out, I will order more! We love popcorn, but we prefer a lighter version. Can't get this in the local stores. A better alternative to regular popcorn. My Family loves it!! Taste is good but just not very "Light" at all IMHO. I peeked inside the bags of this creature and there is a large amount--looks like 3 or 4 pats worth of orangy-looking "mystery" fat there. You can remove some it and reseal the bag by folding over... which I recommend that you do with this, but it's a lot of trouble. Why bother the Orville Redenbacher 94% microwave popcorn is the real article but Amazon does not have it yet as of 1-1-2009. Look again later, their buyers will probably get it in soon. I really, really like Orville 94% Fat-free popcorn and it is the one to beat. Act II has about 50% more salt than the other brands for no apparent reason. (Orville's Best!) PRICE AND PRODUCT ARE FAR SUPERIOR TO WHAT YOU CAN COMMONLY FIND IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD MARKET. A VARIETY PACKAGE THAT PREVIOUSLY SOLD AT COSTCO ALLUDED TO THE REDENBACHER'S GOURMET ALLURE. I found this popcorn once in the market. For some reason the markets are not carrying it. It is fantastic, as it does not leave the hulls in your gums like the other popcorns do. It is light and not greasy. I cannot recommend it enough. I could not find it as I said in the market so I went online and found it on Amazon. What a great service they are. My popcorn arrived as soon as they said and I have a standing order for more. No shipping charges, etc. Love you at Amazon and Orville Redenbacher. this is by far the best popcorn you can eat - its very hard to find in stores, but it is the only popcorn i eat - tender white White popcorn in a microwave pack is very hard to find. This is great tasting popcorn and pops up very nicely. The flavorings are in good portion to the popcorn and distribute evenly. The absence of hulls is a big plus for us. Another great microwave popcorn from Orville. I buy it by the case for those late night movies. Tender and white and not overly salted. (BEST POPCORN)
(Great snack option)
(AWESOME POPCORN) I also received a box that was rancid! I'm so disappointed. My kids and I just opened our first box tonight and it smelled horrible! You couldn't smell it until you opened the cellophane and then it hit you. The individual bags were each soaked through. NOT the boxes, the actual bags of popcorn had oil soaked through them. The boxes looked fine; they weren't crushed or old in appearance or anything like that. I have always bought Orville Redenbacher's popcorn this is the first time I've ever had this problem. I think my days of shopping for food online are over. I can't take this kind of lose :( As far as microwave popcorn is concerned, it's at least at or very near the top. It would be nice if it had more butter!! And it will never be as good as DIY old-fashioned stove top popped!! But, I'd still buy it again! ORVILLE REDENBACHER MAKES THE BEST,CAN'T BEAT THE PRICE,ULTIMATE BUTTER TASTE LIKE REAL BUTTER,LIKE WHEN YOU MADE BACK IN THE 1950'S.
We've had to eliminate many snack items for health reasons. Since we've had this popcorn on hand, we've enjoyed it several times a week.
Unlike some we've tried, this pops up well every time. You don't end up with two inches of unpopped kernals in the bottom of the bowl.
Tastes great and helps to keep us from thinking about some of the less healthy snacks we no longer have on hand. ORVILLE MAKES THE BEST POPCORN IN MY BOOK--VERY BUTTERY AND ALL THE KERNELS POP UP.THE TASTE IS LIGHT AND THE POPCORN IS NOT TOUGH LIKE SOME OF THE COMPETIONS. WHEN YOU HAVE A FAMILY LIKE OURS SAVING TIME BY HAVING IT SENT TO YOU IS WORTH IT. I WILL CONTINUE TO ORDER ORVILLE REDENBACHERS MICROWAVE POPCORN! Orville Redenbacher's Gourmet Popping Corn is the perfect snack to share with the family, and it's available in Movie Theater Butter, Butter, Butter Light, Smart Pop! 94% Fat Free, Kettle Korn, and many other great flavors. (No Coasters)
(Worked great for me)
(RW? Not so far.) I have bought and gone through two spindles of dl Verbatim discs now from this page this year. Both were manufactured in Singapore.
I have not had one coaster yet. I burn all of my discs on my 3 year old laptop OEM DL burner using IMGBurn and have had great success, despite my girlfriend sometimes opening firefox in the background. Though I try not to have anything else running while I burn a disc.
To burn one of these Verbatim discs it takes about 45min for me at 2.4x. Which isn't bad since my burner takes about 25 min to burn a single layer dvd at max speed.
I have not had any problems yet and will update if a future shipment of these discs don't work as well. These are the top quality discs. From Xbox 360 to DVD Movies these will last for a long time with no write errors. Have not had any coasters at 2.4X with Imgburn on a Sony external burner. The only failures occurred when I forgot to block the computer from auto-updating and the computer performed a re-start during the burn process. I trust these DL DVDs. The Verbatim 95310 DVDs are still made in Singapore and are the best quality. I've used Verbatim CD-Rs in the past but this is my first use of any burnable DVDs and I must say so far so good. I bought these DVDs to back up my music and picture collection and although there are a few bad reviews on here for these I went with them because I've had great success with Verbatim media in the past. This time was no different. I was able to burn multiple DVDs with no issues whatsoever. Not a single coaster. The main reason I decided to spend extra money was to get a quality RW. So far, my software continues to tell me that these are not RW's. This kills the whole reason I bought them. I'd send them back, but at this point it has been a few months and I don't have all of the packaging. I should have tried them out sooner. Sadly, with lots of great reviews, I just assumed they'd work. Lesson learned. Since its foundation Verbatim has been at the forefront of the evolution in data storage technology. Today Verbatim remains one of the most recognizable names in the data storage industry. Customer-driven, Verbatim is known for adding considerable product value - above and beyond its competitors - to established media technology. (Good buy)
(Quality)
(One of the best DVD-R products on the market) These are about the best DVD-R disks on the market. The absolute best used to be made by Kodak and were true archival quality and backed by a 100 year guarantee. However when Kodak stopped making them I looked for a quality replacement and settled on Verbatim. I use these to make high quality back ups of family video as well as hard copies of all of my photos. Even with 3 digital backups on external drives, I just feel better having a physical copy as well.
They also burn excellent copies of DVDs if you want to make back ups of your disks--which I recommend since it is legal to make 'personal use' backups according to fair use law--and I hate losing a a DVD because it got scratched.
Overall DVD-R disks are a very inexpensive and quality data back up solution if you like the peace of mind of having physical copies of your video, photos, or other important files. Verbatim makes quality media, so you can't go wrong with these. I ordered this product despite a couple of reviews that said it had arrived just loose in a box and vulnerable to damage. It came today securely packaged in a box with plenty of air pillow packaging. Amazon.com is reading these reviews! I don't know how the product works yet, but based on others' reviews, I expect great performance. Thanks, reviewers, for pointing out the problem, and thanks to Amazon for paying attention. Good DVD's, decent price and came in 2 days with free shipping, can't beat that. The Verbatim factory must have some great quality control. I would consider these disks flawless, unlike a lot of other brands. Verbatim is one of the 2 best DVD blank discs you can buy. No coasters and every disc I used has come out as good as the original or even better when converting old VHS tapes to DVD. Will definitely keep buying this product in the future. Since its foundation Verbatim has been at the forefront of the evolution in data storage technology. Today Verbatim remains one of the most recognizable names in the data storage industry. (JUNK! Beware.)
(Don't Trust your Data to this piece of garbage)
(Nearly DOA) I have no problems using this HD with my Macbook Pro, and have enjoyed the storage. It is my third external hard drive. It is the cheapest in term of dollar per GB memory capacity, but the design is the worst of the three. I personally open the box and check out what is inside, NOT MUCH metal after all. The main thing inside is a very huge SATA seagate 1000GB hard drive dish. The enclosure case is a joke. Unlike my other E-HDD which have a thick aluminum case for protection, this E-HDD has only a tiny layer of metal and the outside plastic case. Another negative about this is that it has No fan and No power on-off button. It will get pretty hot within 2-3 hours.
Pro 1000GB for $100 = 10GB/$1 (very cheap memory) Seagate SATA HDD (trusted HDD brand)
Con Cheap enclosure (not bullet-proof, no any aluminum metal) No power on-off button (you have to plug the USB or the Power cord off to shut down this unit, or you have to shut down your PC) No Fan (gets hot pretty easy) Power adapter is connected to the socket plug (not convenience on some power socket)
I give it a 5 star because of its price. I got this from ebay for $99; shipping is free. Purchased this as a backup drive for my PowerMac. Worked well for a little over 3 months, then started getting "backup failed" errors.
Ran Disk Utility and it could not repair the disk. It had several bad disk errors. Ran DiskWarrior (probably the best of all disk directory repair utilities out there). It was able to scavenge a few files and repair some directory problems, but indicated hardware problems and could not replace the directory.
So - a subsequent search online reveals that hardware problems are a pretty common issue with this drive. I am wishing I had not purchased this drive.
We will see what kind of customer service Seagate has when I initiate the return this week. Absolutely the WORST external drive I've ever come across. Don't be fooled into thinking Seagate=quality. I used this disk as backup and right when I needed it, it failed. The disk enclosure over heats and the disk finally crapped out.
Seriously. In all honesty:
DO NOT TRUST THIS PRODUCT!!!!!! Bought this drive and Amazon delivered it quickly. That's about where the good news ends.
I hooked it up and it didn't spin up on my system running XP with SP3. I looked through Google pretty carefully and the only folks who described this kind of problem are Mac and Linux users. No help there. I tried unplugging and replugging the drive's cables and discovered that reinserting either the power or the USB cable would wake the drive and Windows would use it. A crummy solution.
On a lark, I did what Seagate's tech support page says not to do, and I plugged the drive into a USB hub which seemed to sort of get the drive to stop being stupid and spin up as Windows loaded either from a reboot or hibernation. In fact, I could even put the drive back directly on the PC and the non-spinup problem was magically cured. Ok, I'll go with that.
But then...the drive decided to start making intermittent CLICK-CLICK noises. At first they were far and few between, then as I wrote more and more data to this device it started clicking more and more, with file transfers pausing as this behavior occurred.
I downloaded Seagate's "SeaTools" and had the drive do its internal "short drive test" and "long drive test". In both cases, the progress bar moved a couple notches and then hung. "Chkdsk /r " at the command prompt hung at 15%. I reformatted the drive, hoping that would spot and sequester any bad sectors and reran the diagnostics. The SeaTools passed, albeit with some disconcerting clicks along the way, but chkdsk still hung, this time at 44%.
I'm now having to RMA a drive that literally ran for less than a day before crapping out. If I could do it again, I'd buy a different brand, and preferably one with an actual power switch on it that wouldn't make me rely on automated USB functions to wake such a critical device. My wife's Western Digital drive has such a switch: wish I'd gone with their product instead. Data is becoming more memory consuming. One of the more popular uses of the hard-drive is to store video and HD-video downloaded off the web. Why stick to billions of characters of space when you can easily upgrade to 1 trillion? A trillion is equivalent to 1,000 billion. Easily store and automatically copy your content for safekeeping and quick access. Computers come and go, but your content should always be nearby. The FreeAgent external hard drive is the best place to gather and access all of your important photos, movies, music, games and documents. Simply plug in the power and the USB cable and you're ready to go. Designed to live peacefully in your home or office, the FreeAgent external hard drive is extra quiet and takes up less room on your desk than a stapler. Even the cable ports are base-mounted, to help keep your desk free of clutter. With more visual and audio data, drive space gets tight. Move up to a trillion bytes of storage. You really do need it. Smart. Simple. Sleek.Store and safeguard all your favorite files photos, music, videos, documents, you name it in a stylishly designed desktop storage solution that's as powerful as it is beautiful. It's like getting a new closet for all your important files. 3.5 Drive Format Weight - 2 pounds (0.9 kg) Rerations < Seagate FreeAgent Desk 1 TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive ST310005FDA2E1-RK (Silver) >

customer 's review (Good compliment to my netflix subscription)
(Should be 4.5 stars)
(Awesome product)
(HD Not functional otherwise good)
(Roku delivers, TV when you want it!) Pros: 1)Practically effortless to install with minimum setup required. 2)No more time needed loading a movie off netflix than it takes to load a DVD disc. 3)Easy to organize 'instant queue' via your computer. 4)Extensive choice of available movies. Most grateful for all the children's educational programs.
Cons: 1) Trivial setback but unit didn't come with network cables. 2) HDMI cables are sold separately but any generic HDMI works + its much cheaper. 3) I've had it for a day but as convenient as it is, I don't see a way to add or edit my netflix instant queue.
Overall, I'm satisfied. Would recommend buying this product if you're an avid movie fan or need a little help now and then with the babysitting. This thing is fantastic. I am completely glad I got it today. Set up was straightforward and simple even for a non-technical person like myself. Instant gratification, for sure. I do agree with another reviewer who said the FF and REW functions are inadequate, but I'll take the little bit of bad with the whole lot of good. Since I just unboxed it today, I may add to my review later, but for now I'd say this was entertainment money well spent. How I wish ALL Netflix movies were available on the Roku. That will come, though, as I read in WSJ that the Netflix guy sees disks going by the wayside in 5 yrs or so. We'll wait and see. Probably the best $100 I have spent in a while. Nice to have instant when the netflix movie is in the mail. This is an awesome add on to the Netflix account. Picture quality is awesome and it only takes about 10 seconds for the movie to be ready. While the unit works fine and is easy to set up with component cable it will not provide an HD signal with the HDMI cord that I purchased without a bright green line running horizontally through the screen. Contacted Roku customer services, they were worthless. Told me to use component cables for just as good of a signal. Said they were working on a software update to fix this, probably a pat response. Stuck with the component signal which is not bad just not HD. I want to give this box 5 stars, and I do love it. The reasons I am only giving it 4 stars is this: 1) Customer Phone Center is off shore, and the representatives are not very knowledgeable. 2) The forward and rewind functions don't work as well as your basic dvr. I realize they are completely different, and this box is streaming video over the internet, but when you have interruptions in your house while watching a movie, the rewind button is necessary. It does work, but will take some time to get back to where you were, and your signal quality will drop for a short time period due to the uploading and downloading going on.
That said... This box is really cool. TIME is something a lot of us don't have. So to be able to sit down on the couch, and watch a movie from the beginning any time you want without the extra costs is worth more than the $115 you will spend on this. I watched a show from my childhood last night ADAM 12. It was made in the early 70's, and although it was not HD, I can tell you the picture looked amazing on my Samsung 46" HDTV. I am hooked up via HDMI, and the picture is really good. Netflix does have 9 pages currently of HD movies and shows that you can stream instantly, so I will check some of those out soon. Very happy with this purchase. Netflix currently has over 12000 titles to choose from with the instant streaming, and that number will continue to grow. For new movies, simply put them in your DVD queue, and they will be sent. There is more than enough to choose from. The Roku player instantly delivers movies and TV episodes directly to your TV over the Internet. More than 40,000 choices are currently available from Amazon Video On Demand and Netflix with more being added every week. The Wall Street Journal, CNET, WIRED and other publications have given the Roku player overwhelmingly positive reviews. The Roku player is compact, and easy to set up and use. It comes with everything you need to start watching within minutes of opening the box - the standard yellow, white and red cables, both Wi-Fi and Ethernet are built in, wireless remote and batteries. Start watching instantly anywhere you have a TV and a high-speed Internet connection.Note: For even better audio and video using the Roku player with your HDTV, home theater or A/V receiver, look for the Roku digital video player plus premium cable pack at Amazon.com. (wonderful!!)
(Well worth the upgrade!)
(WOW)
(Ilife '09) I've only used iMovie, iPhoto and iDVD from the suite.
- iPhoto: Quite nice photo software. I use it mostly to organize and share Jpegs I've already edited in DxO, Lightroom/Photoshop. Integrated nicely with other OSX, iLife and iWork applications, like Mail, iDVD and Keynote. The Facebook/Flickr uploading feature is nice. Faces and places is great. Makes it easy to manage your photos. I would give this software alone 4 stars. The inability to create subevents is a major drawback.
- iMovie: Very easy to use software. The video editing capabilities are great. Transitions and themes are easy to apply. The audio editing part is not very good. You have some editing options, and you can add tracks to your sequence, but it's nowhere close to the capabilities of other programs like FCE. As an addition to my complaint about the audio editing capabilities, is the UI. I much prefer the FCE, FCP or Premiere Pro UI, with the browser, viewer, canvas and timeline.
Another serious shortcoming is the text editing capabilities. I don't expect a powerful tool like Livetype to come with every Mac, but a lite version of Livetype would be very much apreciated and would make iMovie a much better video editing software.
I give iMovie 3 stars. It's a nice piece of software, but the UI, lack of audio options and lack of text editing options are in my opinion major drawbacks. However, for simple home movies and videos, it's a great app., and my guess is that most people will be thrilled with the simplicity and power of the video editing capabilities.
-iDVD: This is a great app. Making awesome looking DVDs is easy, fun and fast. Obviously, after using DVD Studio Pro, I feel limited, but considering the price, it's an awesome app. For a hobbyist making a home video, the only shortcoming is in my opinion the very limited slideshow feature. Slideshows in iPhoto are really nice. If apple could integrate this into iDVD, I would be thrilled. When exporting a slideshow from iPhoto, it's compressed into a Mpeg video file. I would like to create the same slideshow in iDVD with the full resolution photos, same themes as in iDVD.
As said, there are some shortcoming, and Apple should address them, but I don't believe they are major drawbacks, so I will give iDVD 5 stars.
END NOTE: Considering that iLife is included in every new Mac, it's a great value, easy to use and quite fun. It certainly adds to the value of the Mac. This is a great piece of software. It's easy to use and the results are fantastic. Love being able to easily shoot and move and have it imported into this software, where I an easily edit it and even share it with friends. This is great for getting all those family memories on video. I was not expecting much, but it's been three months, and I use it constantly. And there is still a lot I have not tackled. Mainly to upgrade iMovie, and I actually have Final Cut Express. iMovie is just quicker for edits etc. I also enjoy iWeb, however, there are not enough templates. I would imagine, if not already, that you would be able to buy more. But I have not needed to. iPhoto is a lot less complex, i'm less lost, and actually enjoy using it now. And Garageband is just plain fun. The fact that there are music lessons included was enough reason to drag out the old guitar. Who knows what I will do with it. At this price, even if you just use one of these things, it's worth it. Iphoto is even more fantastic than ever - face recognition capabilty keeps Mac OS way ahead of the Windows look alike attempt I bought this mainly for the IMovie and I am loving it! My daughter has worked with the IPhoto and says it is great also. For me this was worth having and I look forward to learning all the little extras. iLife '09 makes it easier than ever to get the most out of the photos, movies, and music on your Mac. iPhoto '09.Major photo opportunity. iPhoto makes managing your photos as easy as taking them. It helps you organize your photos so you can find them fast. Edit them so they look their best. And share them with your friends and family. Organize by who, where, and when. It's so easy to take digital photos that before you know it, you have thousands. iPhoto gives you more ways to keep track of your photos by organizing them according to who's in your pictures, where you took them, and when you took them. Faces to see. iPhoto '09 introduces Faces: a new feature that automatically detects and even recognizes faces in your photos. iPhoto uses face detection to identify faces of people in your photos and face recognition to match faces that look like the same person. That makes it easy for you to add names to your photos. And it helps you find the people you're looking for. Clicking the Faces view shows you a corkboard featuring a snapshot for each person you've named. iPhoto suggests a set of possible matches you can confirm with a click. Organize your photos based on who's in them using Faces. Click to enlarge. | Organize and explore your photos by location using Places. Places to go. Places allows you to search and sort photos by location, using data from any GPS-enabled camera or iPhone. Don't have a GPS-enabled camera or iPhone? You can still use Places by adding your own location information: Just start typing and iPhoto instantly gives you a list of locations to choose from. Want to add places to lots of photos? Select an Event, an album, or a group of photos shot in the same place, and iPhoto can add your location information to all of them at once. When you feel like exploring, click Places to navigate your photos by location. Find photos on a map, or use the column browser to click through location names from country to state to city--right down to points of interest like the Empire State Building or the Grand Canyon--to see all the photos taken there. Events to remember. iPhoto helps eliminate clutter in your photo library by automatically organizing your photos by Event. When you import photos taken on a single day, iPhoto groups them together as an Event. You can label each Event with a meaningful name like "Karen's wedding" or "Nathan's graduation," so you can find everything easily. The search field in iPhoto lets you search your entire photo library fast. Type a word or part of a word to search by person, location, title, album, event, or keyword, and see your results in an instant. Make some improvements.
Turn so-so snapshots into great photos. iPhoto gives you everything you need to fix your photos. Remove red-eye with a click. Adjust exposure, brightness, and contrast. Crop to frame your subject. If you don't know where to begin, click the Enhance tool and watch iPhoto automatically fix bright or dull photos. Then try a few new tricks. If you want to make the colors in your photos pop without affecting skin tones, use the Saturation slider and click "Avoid saturating skin tones." To improve clarity and enhance detail, experiment with the Definition slider. Or retouch over solid edges with the Retouch brush. Its new Detect Edges setting prevents blurring of detail as you paint out spots and blemishes. Experiment with effects. iPhoto also features fun, one-click photo effects. Open the Effects pane and click a thumbnail image to convert color photos to black and white, give them a classic sepia tone, add a vignette border, and more. Experiment without fear: A click of the center thumbnail removes effects and returns your photo to its original state. In fact, any edit you make in iPhoto is reversible, so you don't have to worry about losing your originals. Enjoy a few choice memories. Looking for a fun way to share and enjoy your photos? Try creating a slideshow using new slideshow themes. Each theme includes professionally designed layouts, titles, and transitions that make a perfect backdrop for your photos. Click a theme to play a full-screen slideshow--accompanied by any song from your iTunes library. Fast-forward or rewind your slideshow using the new filmstrip. If you like, customize your slideshow even further by saving it as a project. Then you can reorder photos, set the length of time individual photos remain onscreen, or, with some themes, choose different transitions. And when you're happy with your slideshow, send it to iTunes and sync it to your iPhone or iPod to enjoy anywhere. Click to share. The easiest way to share your photos is to share them online. And the easiest way to share online is with iPhoto. Have a MobileMe Gallery showing. MobileMe--the Apple subscription service that keeps all your devices up to date, wherever you are--lets you create an online Gallery to share photos from your iPhoto library.* Simply select the photos you want to share and click the MobileMe button. That's all it takes to publish to your MobileMe Gallery. Keep your Gallery private, make it public, or share it with select people. Visitors can download and print photos, subscribe to your Gallery via RSS, even contribute their own photos. Send and share. Prefer to share your photos via email? Click the Mail button and choose a size to send: small, medium, large, or actual size. iPhoto also shares seamlessly with iMovie, iWeb, iDVD, the applications in iWork, and other Mac OS X applications. Take some photos to go. Want to keep your photos with you? Use iTunes to sync them to your iPod or iPhone to enjoy and share on the go. Or view your photos in your living room: Sync them to Apple TV and they appear on your widescreen TV in full HD quality. Get face time on Facebook. To publish photos to your Facebook account, just select the photos you want to share and click the Facebook button. iPhoto even converts names you added using Faces to Facebook name tags. Flickr icon. Flickr with a click. Sharing on Flickr is just as easy: Click the Flickr button. When you share your photos on Flickr, the locations you added using Places appear on Flickr photo maps. Make it, print it, share it, give it. It's one thing to see your photos online. It's entirely different to see them on your wall or in a beautiful book. iPhoto makes it drag-and-drop easy to design your own softcover book, wire-bound book, or hardcover book--complete with a photo-wrapped cover and matching dust jacket. Make your travel books even more special with custom maps that use location data from your photos to illustrate your journey. Create a personalized photo calendar to hang on your wall. iMovie '09.Movies that aren't a production.
Organize video like photos.
To organize, just import. Plug in virtually any digital camcorder and iMovie starts importing your video. Then iMovie helps you organize your video just as you organize photos: by putting everything in one central location and grouping video clips according the date they were taken. So it's easy to find the clips you're looking for--whether to watch or to edit. Don't have a camcorder? You can still use iMovie: It displays video you captured on your still camera and imported into iPhoto. Rate it. Tag it. Filter it. As your video library grows, you'll need a fast way to find your favorite clips (and hide the ones you're not thrilled with). With iMovie, you can label clips--or parts of clips--as "favorite" or "rejected," tag video with preset or custom keywords, then filter your entire library by rating and/or keyword. Edit fast. Edit precisely.
Drag, drop, and thank the academy. Know how to drag files to your desktop? Then you know how to edit a movie in iMovie. Drag your favorite clips into the project area and arrange them as you wish. Drag in titles and transitions. Drag in photos. Drag in a song from iTunes to create your soundtrack. That's drag-and-drop moviemaking, and iMovie makes it fast and easy. Fine-tune your movies with the new Precision Editor. Click to enlarge. | Enhance your movie in minutes with new dynamic themes. Click to enlarge. | Enhance video travelogues with eye-catching, animated travel maps. Click to enlarge. | Smooth shaky clips with automatic video stabilization. |
iMovie gives you more ways to add clips to your project: Now you can replace or insert clips using a single pop-up menu. Or edit just your audio. As you work, you can drag and drop markers to help you remember specific points in your project or to have your clips snap to the beats of a song. Fine-tune every edit. When you have all your clips where you want them, fine-tune even the trickiest cuts and transitions with the Precision Editor. A magnified filmstrip view shows you exactly where one clip ends and the next begins, so you can skim each clip up close and identify precisely how much to keep and where to cut. Adjust the duration of transitions. Edit audio and video independently, so you can use the sound from one clip with the video from another. Reposition titles and effects. Edit audio, too. In addition to its video editing features, iMovie gives you audio editing tools. Easily adjust audio levels for each clip to give your movie a consistent, comfortable volume. Use multiple audio tracks for music, sound effects--even a voiceover track you can record right in iMovie. Built-in noise reduction cuts down background noise and voice enhancement simulates a studio microphone to make your voice sound like professional announcer's. Enjoy a flick. (Or all of them.)
Easy to use and fun to explore. You don't have to edit a movie to enjoy your video. iMovie puts all your video in one place and gives you a quick, fun way to watch it. That's handy whether you're looking for a particular scene to edit or just want to peruse your favorite clips. Go full screen. Sometimes you want to enjoy your video without any onscreen distractions. With full-screen browsing, you can flip through your entire video library using Cover Flow--the same way you flip through albums in iTunes. Toggle between Events and projects or browse individual clips from your library and play them full screen. Even the clip-skimming feature works in full-screen mode. When you roll over a filmstrip, you see the related clip full screen. Add titles, transitions, oohs, and ahhs.
Add and edit real-time titles. iMovie makes it easy to add all the elements of a great movie, starting with the opening credits. Preview 20 new titles (for a total of 32) in the Title Browser. Find one you like and drag it onto any video clip. Or, for a neat trick, drag a title where there isn't any video. That opens a Preview Palette with animated backgrounds. Choose one and your title appears over it. Type over the placeholder text and you're done. If you change your mind about a title style, drag in another. iMovie applies the new style instantly. Choose cinema-quality transitions. To keep your cuts interesting, choose from 20 transitions by skimming over them in the Preview Palette. One click picks the perfect transition and applies it instantly. Apply some effects. Maybe you want a particular clip to feel like a dream sequence. Or perhaps you'd prefer to give your movie a vintage look. Whatever your inspiration, iMovie has you covered with 19 video effects. Take a look at all the effects in the Preview Palette, then apply them to a single clip, multiple clips, or an entire project. In addition to video effects displayed in the Preview Palette, iMovie includes picture-in-picture and green-screen effects you can apply using the Advanced Tools pop-up menu. Enhance your movie Hollywood-style.
Steady shaky clips. Don't leave those perfect--if slightly wobbly--moments on the cutting-room floor. New video stabilization in iMovie analyzes how much your camera was moving, then automatically reduces shake. Stabilize on a clip-by-clip basis or analyze all your video (the latter may take a while, but it's worth it). iMovie even identifies moments when the camera was excessively shaky and marks that footage with a squiggly red line, so you can hide it. Pick a theme, any theme. To make your movies look even more professional, add a dynamic theme. Choose a theme such as Bulletin Board, Filmstrip, or Comic Book and apply it to your project instantly. iMovie does the rest, adding animated titles and sophisticated transitions automatically. Your themed project plays right away. You don't have to wait to see the results. Animate your travels. Enhance your video travelogues with eye-catching, animated travel maps. Choose from four different 3D globe or flat map styles, select your location (or locations), and iMovie builds an animated map. If you want to change its look, drag another map on top of your current one to change the style without affecting your locations. When it's time to make final adjustments, iMovie puts color and audio controls in floating windows you can place anywhere on your screen. Use sliders to adjust exposure, brightness, contrast, saturation, and white point. Adjust audio levels for each clip to give your movie a consistent, comfortable volume. All your changes occur in real time, so you can be sure you've got everything just right. Share your movie with a click.
Premiere your movie on MobileMe. Once you've finished your masterpiece, it's time to share it. MobileMe--the Apple subscription service that keeps all your devices up to date, wherever you are--features an online Gallery.* With a few clicks, you can publish your movie to a MobileMe Gallery page where friends and family can view it, make comments, and download it. It's easy to publish your movie in a variety of sizes. Even better than DVD quality, the big 960-by-540 format looks great online. Be a YouTube sensation. If you have a YouTube following, you can share your movies there. Just select YouTube from the Share menu. Share your movie anywhere. To watch your movie on the go, send it to iTunes and sync it with your iPod or iPhone. Or send your movie to Apple TV, then sit back and watch it on your widescreen TV. Burning to share? Of course, you can also burn your movie to a DVD. Choose iDVD from the Share menu and create a fully featured DVD--complete with customized menus and buttons--in iDVD. If you've added chapter markers to your movie in iMovie, they show up in iDVD, too. Learn to play. Start a jam session. Record and mix your own song. Click to enlarge. |

Plug and play.
Turn your Mac into a musical instrument. With GarageBand, the proof is in the playing. Plug a USB music keyboard into your Mac and you get instant access to over 100 realistic software instruments--pianos, strings, drums, guitars, horns--everything from bass to woodwinds. Just create a new track, choose your instrument, and play. Don't have a keyboard? Try the one onscreen, which is resizable and can display up to ten octaves at once. Or turn on Musical Typing and use the keys on your computer keyboard to play. As you record software instruments, GarageBand can display your notes on a piano roll or as notation, complete with notes, rests, and other musical events. Edit individual notes right on the staff, then print the notation. Play guitar like a legend. You don't need a studio full of big, expensive amps to play like your heroes. Just plug an electric guitar into your Mac and play through amps modeled after the most revered in the world. Add virtual stompbox effects that reproduce classic foot pedals, in whatever order you want. Then get a 3D view of your rig--complete with amp, speaker cabinet, and stompboxes. Jam with a full-screen band. The roadies have set up. The band is ready to jam on a full-screen stage. Now pick your instrument and step into the spotlight. Playing or singing along with Magic GarageBand Jam is the perfect way to practice and have fun. Assign instruments and styles to your guitarist, bassist, drummer, and keyboard player. Or shuffle instruments randomly to instantly hear a new sound from your backing band. When you're happy with rehearsals, record right into Magic GarageBand. Record and mix like a pro.
Sing, play, and loop. GarageBand turns your Mac into a full-featured recording studio. Build a beat with the included loops, then plug in a guitar, bass, or microphone. You can even play (or sing) into the mic on your Mac. GarageBand captures the audio and turns it into digital files you can manipulate using a host of recording and mixing tools. It also includes the expertise of a built-in recording engineer, so you always sound your best. Record your best take. Record a part as many times as you like. GarageBand keeps track of every take and saves it to a multi-take region. Play your song back while switching between different takes to choose the one that sounds best. Keep the takes you love, delete the ones you don't. And when you're ready for backup, invite your friends over for some multitrack recording. Record more than 100 tracks and up to eight real instruments simultaneously: GarageBand supports any Mac OS X-compatible audio I/O device. Make some arrangements. As you record, GarageBand helps you add structure to your song. Most songs are arranged in distinct sections: introduction, verse, and chorus. With the sections clearly defined, you can rearrange your song at any time. Want to repeat a verse? Copy and paste. Move the chorus? Click and drag. All the tracks that belong to a section go along with it. Master your mix. Once you've laid down a few tracks, it's time to mix. Just like a professional recording engineer, GarageBand helps you create a sound all your own. Bring out the best in your performance by enhancing timing and tuning. Add some basic effects such as compression, reverb, or EQ. Make your song sound truly unique by adding fun effects such as Track Echo, Chorus, and Automatic Filter. Then tweak your mix by adjusting the volume of each track or panning between speakers. Design, publish, and update your own websites just the way you want them. Click to enlarge. |

For each chapter marker on the timeline, iMovie adds a thumbnail of the scene and an editable chapter title (such as "Blowing out the Candles" or "You May Kiss the Bride"). Edit the chapter title in iMovie and you'll have less work to do later, as iDVD picks up the chapter titles for its scene selection buttons. Show off slideshows. You can also use iDVD to show off your photos. customer 's review (awwww nuts)
(MORTIFIED!)
(Mowing Season is Here!)
(Spend money here now:)
(Awesome!!) What the heck - this item is not eligible for Amazon Prime when purchased from TV Store Online?!?!? I can't give this splendid aparatus more than 3 stars because of the punitive shipping restrictions. This is a great piece of weaponry. Just load... I don't know, walnuts or chestnuts or whatever kind of nuts you have on hand... anyway load them into the crotch of the Borat apparatus, hook your forefinger and thumb in the foreward "loops", then cock your other forefinger into the firing mechanism, pull back hard and let them fly! The best and quickest minute of your life. Trust me. Oh, why isn't this eligible for Amazon Prime? I am absolutely mortified that this product is allowed to be sold. After a few washings in cold water my mankini has faded to a drab and entirely non festive pastel green.I look like a schmuck when I wear this at St. Timothy's Community Pool.I would be remiss if I didn't mention that the fabric is not very stain resistant.C'mon people this is the 21st century, a little 3m stainguard and colorfast dyes are sorely needed. For years my husband and the guy (Bob) across the street have had a yard mowing feud (amongst many others) going on. Last year Bob got himself a big ole' fancy riding lawn mower. That pretty much killed my husband since there is no way we can swing one of those right now. Besides, our yard is so steep he'd tump it over anyway. So, while my husband is out there feverishly pushing his little Toro, Bob relaxes on his "Lawnboy" and has even waved at hubby as they both mow their yards really rubbing the salt into my husband's yard mowing ego. The only time hubby gets to ride a lawn mower is when going down the steep slope. (He can stand on it facing backwards straddling the engine while holding onto the handlebar and coasting downhill). THIS YEAR(!) however(!) Bob is going to have his mowing world all shook up!
I bought hubby a "Borat Mankini" swim suit (HOT lime green!) to wear while he does his manly outdoor work. When Bob gets a green eyeful he's gonna know that hubby just upped him one in the Mowing War!!! But, I have a personal motive heheheheheee......Bob is quite the hunk and while hubby is my one and only I can't deny my natural curiosity. I have no doubt I will be seeing MORE of Bob in his Borat Mankini in just a few more weeks! (He still has to get off ever now and then to check the mechanics of his big, fine mowing machine!) I can imagine seeing them now, both in their man-kinis mowing yards! Maybe the whole neighborhood will go man-kini!!!
Women!!! Besides getting a closer (albeit safe) gander at the anatomy of your neighbors, this Man-kini is great for stopping traffic when you have a yard sale too. Just set your hubby out by the mailbox (while wearing his mankini of course!) next to the "Yardsale Here!" sign and people will come by the truckloads. Most every woman is a bit curious about the male human body and they can buy up some of your old blow dryers, hot rollers and musty baby clothes while sneaking a peek at the same time! I receive no payment for making here this statement:
"AS #5 PROSTITUTE IN ALL OF KAZAKHSTAN, I ENDORSE BORAT MANKINI SWIMSUIT COSTUME THONG GREEN."
USA, all the way! (Now, you buy.) This product is exactly what I wanted, looks just like the real Borat bathing suit! Is hilarious on! Can't wait for sumkmertime! Borat Suspender Thong. customer 's review (Great product and great deal)
(Excellent little case)
(nice product)
(Awesome!)
(awesome) This case is beautifully made. I bought it on the recommendations of amazon customers and they were right. Well designed too. Perfect little case for what I wanted. I don't like the arm band holders either so this case with the belt clip was perfect. It also offers good protection with the inside metal casing. Great price as well! Very pleased The price was good and it arrived in less time than it said. The only thing that bothered me was that where it flips open looks upside down to me...like the opposite of a flip phone. Other than that i love it, it protects my ipod and it's pink...what else could i ask for:) Wow! This case is a quality piece! The ipod fits like a glove in metal casing inside, the flip top has a nice magnetic closure. The outer is leather and the clip on the back is sturdy. The cool thing is it sits upside down so when you flip it open and look down (assuming it's clipped to pants) the ipod is right side up. Nice design and cool colors! The best case you are going to get in my opinion and for the price WOW Flip Leather Carrying Case with Belt Clip for Apple iPod 3rd Generation Nano 3 , Black. This product is good nice over for the ipod and belt clip. What is lacking for the case is an screen shield of some type like plastice or some type of film but all and all product is awesome 100% Satisfaction Guarantee with Limited Lifetime Warranty on this product. (Fun shirt!)
(very poor quality)
(Not very impressive.)
(Charlie Brown T) The purchase was easy, the delivery was timely and the quality of the merchandise was very good.
I don't know how one would leave proper feedback on a shirt... I mean, you wear it, and if it doesn't burst into flames on you when you step into the sun, I figure you've got a winner. This shirt, though, is a fun shirt to wear. Every time I wear it, I get comments on it. I'm not one for talking to random people over a shirt, but it makes you feel kinda neat. Wish this shirt was available in a polo, though- just like good ol' Chuck's! the fabric`s quality is very poor. I`ll be surprised if the zig-zag resists the 2o. wash. The zig-zag is too low on the shirt and doesn't go all the way around. There is one line on the front and one on the back and they don't meet on the sides. It is also a thick iron-on; not screen printed. I was very disappointed! Great color, quality, stitching. When washed several times no shrinkage, my son received many compliments at his high school when he wore it. Be like Chuck! The zig-zag stripe goes completely around this solid yellow cotton t-shirt just like our favorite bad luck guy wore. Rerations < Charlie Brown Yellow Zig-Zag Peanuts T-shirt >

customer 's review (Behold the infinate glory of Jetfire)
("TransFormers: Revenge Of The Fallen" Leader Class Jetfire)
(Truly More Than Meets The Eye (even if it's loaded w/kibble!))
(Huge in jet mode!) Bot mode overall he's pretty impressive mainly bulky so this is a problem when it comes to some poses. However fear not he's an old man so his cane comes in handy, surprisingly. He has a good range of motion as far as his hands, arms, and legs go, but his head is pretty much stationary, though it can move from side to side. He is kibbly in his bot mode, the pieces on his arm and the pieces on his back, which is another reason why he's top heavy and where the cane comes in handy. There some pieces near the side of his head that tend to pop off REAL easy, but just put them back in place, though it is a hassle when transforming him in alt mode.
His facial sculpt is pretty accurate so I at least applaud Hasbro for that.
Transformation wise he is quite simple, compared to that of say leader prime. Just fold him up, literally.....
His alt mode is nice when looking at it from above, but underneath and 3/4 views he is again quite kibbly. But despite that is pretty accurate to the real Blackbird. Not to mention its HUGE, pictures do this mode no justice until seen up close.
Overall despite the kibble he's not a bad figure, very solid and like a poster mentioned the cane really adds to his character, and if you still don't like the cane, it is removable, and the figure still stands.
If you liked the guy in the movie like I did, despite his kibble he will not disappoint, but if your looking for something a bit more sleek I'd probably skip the figure.
Leader Class Jetfire
Robot mode pros: -He's hunched over, just like in the film and can actually use his cane as a cane. (How neat is that?) Captures the feel of the film character.
-He's rather posable considering all of his gimmicks and combiner pieces being a core component of the figure.
-His face is a nearly perfect representation of the film character. (A really nice job, no seriously.)
Robot mode cons:
-His balance is a bit difficult due to his legs having weak ratchets compared to the voluminous weight of his backpack. (This is where the hunched over look comes in handy.)
-The panels that hide his face for vehicle and combined mode are double ball jointed and they pop off all the time. Becomes rather bothersome to have to snap 'em back in place all the time.
Transformation pros:
-Rather easy, so you (or your kids) won't be terribly frustrated going from one mode or the other, unlike Optimus Prime. (There's a figure that'll make kids and parents alike, unhappy.)
-When done correctly (read the instructions, you'll see what I mean.) he holds together tight and firm. (in both modes.)
Transformation cons:
-Panels pop off, pieces have to be set just right to make sure the entire shell of the place is locked in place. (I know it sounds like I contradicted my earlier statement of him being easy to transform, and I still stand by that. It just takes a lot of fine tuning to get it just right. It's worth it though.)
Vehicle mode pros:
-Massive. (No, seriously. His vehicle mode is that of a Lockheed Martin, Skunkworks SR-71. This is a good 15 inches long, perhaps even longer, I've yet to measure it.) If you wish to display him in vehicle mode, make room, otherwise he'll be a problem when finding a spot. (He's massive, did I mention that? :P)
-Exacting detail. (One of the best detailing jobs on a figure I've ever seen. Every panel, every intake, even the pilot's name (which I believe is fictional, I Googled...) is there in stunning accuracy. It even has the Skunkworks logo on the tail fins!)
Vehicle mode cons:
-The robot parts can be seen on the underside of the plane, which kills the accuracy on that end of it. (But the rest of the vehicle mode is replicated to the finest details.)
-His size. (It's a pro and a con. Pro for the awesome factor, con for the storage factor. Seriously, he's darn near unmanageable.)
Comebined mode pros:
-Captures the film character rather well, considering it's literally two toys latched together.
-Imposing, impressive, and hefty. (I mean it, he's a heavy bugger in the combined mode.)
Combined mode cons:
-Very difficult to make all the connectors work. (Once they do, they're difficult to remove.)
-No posability, just an awesome looking statue with movable arms and a head.
-Top heavy.
Other thoughts:
Overall, Jetfire is a solid figure, with a terrific vehicle mode, and a neat transformation. He isn't without his flaws, however, but they aren't enough to ruin the figure's fun and awesomeness. Once you have it in your hands, you'll see what I mean. The few negatives are well worth all of the positives on this figure.
I do recommend you be careful with the rubbery belt pieces (used for the combined mode) because they look like they could easily break, or dry rot as time goes on.
The combination is cheesy, at best, though it looks impressive, and makes for an irritating time when connecting and disconnecting the figures from one another.
If you can find one, I highly recommend you get this guy. He's a really nice addition to anyone's collection, or that newly made TF fan's wish list. (Welcome to our world, btw!) A real treat here, TF fans. This figure is abound w/versatility: w/panels that become prime's firearm (in jet charged mode: that's a whole 'nother story altogether!), multiple accessories and a third mode that combines W/leader Optimus, this figure really delivers @ MSRP of 44.99. Although the robot gears and anatomy are eyesore-inducing (aka the phenomenon of "Kibble" as we collectors refer to it), the functionality of Jetfire is more than enough to compensate for it. Has excellent articulation for an item that undergoes a fair deal of transformation (though, in my opinion, Voyager Mixmaster takes the cake for metamorphosis/articulation ratio). The Mech-Alive gimmick is fairly intricate despite its limited range, and the speech gimmick does the trick (however, I thought Hasbro could've strived for more than just a single, eponymous line of dialogue for these leader-class figures). And lastly, the fusing you can do w/him and optimus is true fun realized: a MASSIVE figure when completed (but more range of motion for the limbs could've been taken into account, but hey, this is Transformers we're dealing with here! We don't need to focus on details, just the BIG picture!) This figure will really add a sense of gravity to wherever it's displayed, at the office (if you don't get into any trouble w/it!), the home, or specifically, in your bedroom or home theater. Overall, you're going to have a blast with this figure (especially if you already own Leader Prime!), and it is in my strongest opinion that you snatch him up before you have to wait weeks (maybe months!) before you get a second chance at this triple changer of a transformer! AUTOBOTS, TRANSFORM... AND ROLL OUT! What a pairing! One of the best transformers of all time in the form of one of the best jets of all time! The top of the jet is amazing! For those of you with limited shelf space, Jetfire is about 18" in jet mode (which is my favorite mode). The highest difficulty rating on the box is no joke, it took awhile for me to transform him. I would point out that it wasn't hard to figure out how to transform him, but the already transformed pieces would keep disconnecting, causing me to go back and repeat steps over again(the five general segments that make up the realistic top of the SR-71 were the main culprits). I have yet to purchase Leader Optimus Prime, so cannot comment on the combination of the two, but the instructions make it look fairly simple from Jetfire's vehicle mode. I'm a huge Jetfire fan from the G1 days, and although I'm not fond of the engineering of this figure(the robot parts are too obvious under the jet, and the jet parts are too bulky in robot mode), it is worth owning. And besides, making him perfect would translate to making him more expensive. I definitely recommend him, and also recommend watching a review or two on youtube or something to see how he transforms in real life.

(Not so great)
(Not For Your 5 Year Old)
(A Bumblebee that really stresses, "More than meets the eye...")
(Really hard to put together) Wow, there are a lot of whiners who hate this thing... Why does it so often seem like I'm one of the only people who appreciates a thoughtful and somewhat challenging transformation? I'd take that over say...the shellformers or the kibble laden Big Convoy from beast wars neo? (seriously, it was like two pathetic toys in one!) I dunno, i really like this transformer, either as a collectors' item (hey, he looks pretty cool in the package) or as a toy (hey, he runs, guns, and transforms rather smoothly) I will grant you that there are a WHOLE lot of little panels and pieces to this guy, which is probably due to how awesome he looks as a robot (and how screen accurate) On the plus side, there is a lot of automorph to this guy, rotating his chest (the car hood) up rotates his arms and his windshield (its on his back) and sliding his feet up into position automaticly positions his rear fender and back window. I will also grant you that perhaps some of him is rather flimsy (his back window splits in two for goodness sakes) and some of the pieces can be tricky to fit in (doors?) Still, i think his camaro looks fantastic, and that his transformation, while difficult at first, is relatively easy since its basicly as follows: slide foot flush with shin (repeat on other foot) slide up hood over head place hands behing his back (like he's been arrested for speeding) and snap the roof halves into place slide in the doors and lock OH and snap his feet together there done that was easy (easy button anyone?) in fact the only real difficulty I've had with this guy is getting his doors to line up, but to be honest? transforming him back and forth is easy once you know how to do it, and if u know where everything goes on a car (you drivers should really) its pretty intuitive To finish, he's an outstanding mold and a fantastic camaro (camero? I can never remember how to spell it...) His tranformation can be a little tricky at first, but you really should be able to get the hang of it after two or three transformations no longer is it simply "break apart all the kibble to reveal the robot inside" which I think is why everyone seems to be griping (side note, when even my five year old brother can figure it out with the instructions, you know its not that hard...) all in all worth the ten bucks or so you'll spend on it at target or toys R us or wherever I picked this guy up recently and I have to say I'm disappointed!
From the first movie line, I have the '78 Camaro (which is lousy!), the '09 Camaro (which is awesome!) and the '09 Camaro Stealth version(featuring reverse colors and the armor/mask head-sculpt). I guess I just wanted to add to the movie Bumblebee collection.
While the transformation is mostly the same, the quality of plastic used is really cheap. And for some reason, I don't like the headscuplt. His eyes have got a "glassy" look, and it feels like he's just staring wide-eyed into space.
If you can't find the toy from the first movie, go ahead and buy this. But overall, I'm kinda disappointed with it. Def not for your 5 year old, I am 35 and spent close to an hour transforming. This is more for the fan collector who will change every now and then for display. Wont last long at a 1st grade show and tell. Instructions, Bahh hopeless, and who posted the review "read instructions" must have been reading the lines and arrows. Instructions are of no use, better off just breaking the thing and putting it back together yourself. I passed this guy up my first few trips to the store in favor of better figures (leader Prime and Megatron). He didn't look all that great in the package. I finally picked him up with Deluxe Skids, and even then, didn't bother with him until after I messed around with Skids for a while, who is also cool. Once you actually start messing around with the toy, you can see the charm it has, much like the actual Bumblebee character. The head sculpt is dead on. The detail in robot and car mode is very nice. It's a well articulated figure, and can stand and be posed fairly well. Turning him into car mode takes a little finesse to get complete, but it's not a complex transformation like Prime. Yes, pieces pop off, but like some of the more observent reviewers have pointed out, they are meant to do that so the brand new toy isn't permenently broke. They go back easily, and stay on. The gun arm is MENT to come off in car mode. A very cool and fun figure. As a robot, the toy is pretty cool. The minute my five-year-old asked me to help him transform it into a car, things went poorly. Almost immediately, the head fell off and would not go back on. Finally, I got it to stay. Then the cannon fell off. It too goes back on with effort, but falls off again immediately. Two other little yellow pieces came off too, about every five seconds. After a half hour of putting things back that kept falling off and following the VERY unclear instructions, I was able to figure it out for myself enough to get it mostly in the shape of a car. The doors wouldn't shut and the cannon had to be removed to get it there, but I did it sort of. My son then played with it for another half hour and was able to get the doors closed. I hate the piece of junk and would rate it zero stars, but to be honest, my son likes it. Rerations < Transformers Movie 2 Deluxe Bumblebee Figure >

Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's review (Movie Soundwave: One Devilish Looking Decepticon !)
(Good For My 1st ROTF Figure) with Transformers: Revenge of the fallen coming to theaters later this month..i like others were excited to hear that Soundwave the Decepticon Communicator, and megatron's head Intelligence officer will be making his big screen debut.
when i first saw spy pics of Soundwave in january i was shocked..the design was a radical departure from the tape deck character we all know. But, this design works for the film..his disguise is a communications satellite. in short Soundwave rocks! lots of detail here.
he is one Devilish looking decepticon the design retains his G1 style head(great touch takara/hasbro !) the color scheme is reminiscent of his g1 days also. he is quite poseable and is well built...i like his claws and his arms they wanted the movie transformers to look totally alien, and they succeded..
he also comes with ravage that launches from him ( ala g1 days) ravage as you know is the cassette Kitty that is loyal to soundwave..however hes not transformable...perhaps a later version will have a transformable one because hes in the film. mabey laserbeak too? one can only hope:)
Soundwave, is one of my favorite Decepticons, and i think they did a nice job on him..hes worth getting. like Optimus prime, hes hard to get..i went to 2 stores before i landed 2 of him (one to open and one to keep sealed in the package)
pros: its soundwave! good articulation movie accurate detail in all modes
cons: ravage is non transformable (they probably did this to keep the price lower)
if you can find soundwave, grab him..hes worth checking out. (hope they keep his cool monotonic voice for the movie, like prime's the voice is classic)
keep this one away from little Johnny, hes a bit fragile and you know how kids are careless sometimes...these are made for the collector and rightfully so..
RAVAGE....EJECT...EJECT I went to my local Toys R Us and today, we have ROTF in stock. I got this guy and legends class Bumblebee. I was looking forward to this guy since I first saw him. The only real complaint I have is that the ball hinge on one of his legs is looser than the other. But very minor. I wanted to get FAB Skids, but they didn't have him. I recomend this. Stationed in orbit above Earth, SOUNDWAVE swiftly taps into every satellite in range. Within minutes, communications, data traffic, weather information, and high-resolution spy photography flood his sensor net. The spill of data fills him with pleasure, and one by one, the humansâ systems come under his complete control. From his seat on high, he is in a position to control the destiny of mankind without their knowledgeâ¦or to run their civilization into the ground. Convert this TRIPLE CHANGER figure into three different modes and get ready to take on AUTOBOT® forces! In robot mode, this devilish-looking SOUNDWAVE warriorâs cannon converts to a âbladeâ for battle! customer 's review (No splicing needed....hopefully.)
(Range not very good)
(Peak back-up camera)
(It's OK for the money)
(Finest Auto Camera on Market!) I just received this camera, and plan to use it in my travel trailer to see if any cars are behind me. I am not very keen on tying this into the trailers parking or reverse lights. On a hunch, I tried to hook the wires up to a 9-volt battery. Lo and behold, we have a picture! I am currently testing to see how long the battery lasts (and it is an old battery). So far, it is still transmitting after 30 minutes. If it lasts a long while, I'll have to find a 9volt connection froman old radio, snip it, and splice the wires together. I bought this to use as a camera behind my 30' fifth wheel RV. I tow a Seadoo behind my trailer and cannot see it, so I thought this would be perfect to keep an eye on it while driving. The problem is when you put the transmitter more than 15' or so away from the 7" screen the picture starts to go bad. The cable from the camera to the transmitter is about 15'. I called the tech number and told them my problem. I asked if they had an extension cable to get the transmitter closer to my truck. He said he gets about 8 calls a day for the same problem and no, they don't make an extension cable. I ended up splicing 40 more feet of cable onto the system myself. I mounted the camera on the top rung of my ladder on the back of my trailer. I made a bracket out of aluminum to point it where the Seadoo trailer will be. I ran the cable down the ladder, underneath the trailer, and up to the 5th wheel kingpin box. This is where I mounted the transmitter. Now it is about 8 feet from the 7" screen and the picture is perfect! If you plan on splicing and extending like I did, be careful because the wire is shielded. The technician from Peak told me it couldn't be done! HaHa I just bought 2 of these and installed them. The installation is easy considering I know how to remove panels and do basic electrical work. No holes were drilled or punched. I simply routed the camera wire through the existing holes for the license plate lights. The reception is great and the angle is wide. I am very satisfied with this system. In general the system seems ok, but the headache I wanted to avoid was elimination of wires. It's got a bunch because the wireless transmitter is separate from the camera. So both the video and power must be run to the transmitter separately and of course the transmitter needs to be mounted somewhere. It's not really built for external conditions, so plan on putting it somewhere inside. Be prepared to punch holes to accomplish this (another thing I specifically wanted to avoid.) It doesn't have a handy method of mounting other than a license plate. That didn't work on my RV with the plate on the left side cutting off my view on the right.
In short, its not as "wireless" as I would like. The camera and transmitter should be integrated into one unit and a battery option provided to eliminate the power requirement. It could easily have a "wake up" mode for the camera when the display is active. This 7" version, until now, was only available at Sam's Club, otherwise all you could buy was a lesser 2.5" version at Amazon.
We use one on the rear plate of our tow vehicle to see while connecting to our Travel Trailer Hitch.
We then added one to the top rear of our Travel Trailer, so we could see behind us while driving on the highway.
My wife and I each have a color 7" LCD on our sun visors, so we can both see the action.
The first camera is activated by putting the car into reverse, the second by turning on the parking lights. (First click on light switch.)
Adds to the safety of our trip. Also, very much fun to see around us.
The uses are endless.

(Great book, makes you want to keep reading it)
(great book! good stories.)
(A Quickly Engrossing Story)
(Good, but not great) This is one of the best books I have read in a long time. I loved the complexity of the characters and the individual story lines. Hope to read more by her. This was a great book with a lot of intriguing events that made me not want to put the book down. This book really shows how cancer can destroy more than one person's life, very touching. get ready to get emotional. this book is full of love, tears, friendship, relationship and most of it: understading. A great book to understand mother and sisterhood. This story sucked me in immediately and held me to the end. It's an interesting premise and a very well-written portrayal. I don't particularly like the ending, but others might. The twist in the last few pages is the only reason I can't give this book 5 stars, but I still highly recommend this book as a thought-proviking and entertaining read. I won't rehash what has already been said in hundreds of other reviews, so I'll highlight the pros and cons.
Pros: - Character development was particularly good in some cases, most notably in the brother, Jesse, and the main character, Anna. - I enjoyed the author's writing style and the pacing of the story. - There was a particular sense of humor in an otherwise solemn book thanks to Jesse and the lawyer, Campbell.
Cons: - The ending, as everyone had said, was a cop-out. I honestly was upset by the conclusion and I couldn't help but feel like Kate was a scummy character. First off, she didn't have the gall to tell her own family that her wishes were to die in peace. Second, she never honestly seemed grateful toward her sister, Anna, for her sacrifices. During the end of the book, after Anna dies, Kate pulls a 180 and instead of accepting death, she takes a kidney from her sister, which was against what she wanted in the FIRST PLACE. - I really wasn't too interested in the character Julia and her back story with Campbell. I honestly felt it was kind of pointless and found myself hurrying through the chapters narrated by Julia. - I agree with some of the reviews in terms of Anna's precociousness in word and thought. She was given a rather adult voice for a 13 year old in terms of vocabulary, thought process, and actions.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. I won't be clamoring to tell my friends about this book and force it down their throats, but it wasn't an awful book. This was my first book by this author and it probably won't be my last. New York Timesbestselling author Jodi Picoult is widely acclaimed for her keen insights into the hearts and minds of real people. Now she tells the emotionally riveting story of a family torn apart by conflicting needs and a passionate love that triumphs over human weakness.Anna is not sick, but she might as well be. By age thirteen, she has undergone countless surgeries, transfusions, and shots so that her older sister, Kate, can somehow fight the leukemia that has plagued her since childhood. The product of preimplantation genetic diagnosis, Anna was conceived as a bone marrow match for Kate -- a life and a role that she has never challenged...until now. Like most teenagers, Anna is beginning to question who she truly is. But unlike most teenagers, she has always been defined in terms of her sister -- and so Anna makes a decision that for most would be unthinkable, a decision that will tear her family apart and have perhaps fatal consequences for the sister she loves. My Sister's Keeperexamines what it means to be a good parent, a good sister, a good person. Is it morally correct to do whatever it takes to save a child's life, even if that means infringing upon the rights of another? Is it worth trying to discover who you really are, if that quest makes you like yourself less? Should you follow your own heart, or let others lead you? Once again, inMy Sister's Keeper,Jodi Picoult tackles a controversial real-life subject with grace, wisdom, and sensitivity. Rerations < My Sister's Keeper - Movie Tie-In: A Novel >

(I should have read this review first........)
(the road)
(One of the most powerful novels I have ever read)
(Book Review: The Road) Strong imagery, depressing, one long pointless video game. And please, spare me the Eastern slant. Funny though, the author's talent is heavy enough to penetrate and light enough to soar. The one star rating signifies nothing, like the book. This is a quote from another Amazon review. Why didn't I read this before "The Road?" What a tremendous waste of paper and ink. Thanks to Grayjay. Couldn't have said it better.
As posted by Grayjay 4/24/2007 as Mass Psychology? <> good easy reading with a post apocalyptic theme, unsettling but with rich messages and warnings about barbaric human behavior interlaced w occasional humans w uncompromising values. I have long thought that Philip Roth and Cormac McCarthy are perhaps the two greatest living American novelists. This novel has fully reinforced that opinion. While I've had nothing but enormous respect for McCarthy, I've frankly found his books to be a bit too depressing to enjoy. I marveled at his poetry-like prose in books like BLOOD MERIDIAN, even while finding them too violent. THE ROAD isn't a feel-good book, but despite the nightmarish world that it depicted, it is a profoundly moving one. It is also far and away the most human of McCarthy's books.
The story is a simple one. The earth has been devastated, denuded of all life except a very small number of humans. Since there is no other life, whether plant or animal, eating becomes an overarching concern and is not, for some survivors, restricted to old human canned food. Cannibalism is something to which many resort. It has becomes Hobbes's universe, where life is "nasty, brutish, and short." We don't know what has reduced the earth to such a condition. There is apparently no radiation, which would seem to rule out nuclear conflagration, but on the other hand we see the man and boy in the story come across numerous signs of the world destroyed by fire. What has obliterated life is not important to the story; what is important is that the two main characters in the story, a man and his boy, are striving to flee from the frigid temperatures of the north to warmer weather in the south. Appropriately, to each other they affirm that they are carrying with them "the fire." This is not literal fire, but the fire of living, the refusal to give up, the insistence on preserving their humanity, to be one of the "good guys."
In keeping with the simplicity of the story, McCarthy employs a clean, plain prose style, much simpler than what one encounters in his other novels. His sentences, like life in the novel, have been reduced to the bare minimum. So also with the events in the story. Highpoints are reduced to finding dried out apples or old cans of food. And the Man is a genuinely heroic figure.
The end of the novel - which I won't reveal - is one of the most moving that I have ever read. In the hands of a lesser writer it might have come across as too neat, but it felt right. I defy anyone not to cry like a little baby in the novel's final pages.
I have to thank my brother for encouraging me to read this. I knew about it, of course, given McCarthy's stature as a writer, but I usually have so many books that I'm hoping or planning to read that it is hard to squeeze new books in. But my brother convinced me that this was something that I would need to read sooner rather than later. He, by the way, is currently working on a critical survey of eco-disaster fiction. This novel, as one of the finest dystopian novels ever written, will play a major role in his study.
I strongly recommend this novel to any mature reader. I do not recommend this for beginning readers. Just notice the low ratings given the book by students who have been forced to read it for classes. But I can't imagine any competent, experienced reader not finding this brilliant novel as anything less than a masterpiece. In my opinion, this book is about the condition of human nature when faced with the certainty of death and the total devastation of life as you knew it. Think about it. What if you lost everything you knew about this beautiful planet and saw nothing but a charred skeleton of Mother Earth with no remaining life existing thereupon it? What if the colors, smells, and everything that we take for granted about our planet is replaced with only shades of black and the smell of death and fear? I think about it and I can¡¯t imagine how I would find the will to survive in such conditions, as such, I can understand why the mother of ¡°The Man¡¯s¡± boy ¡°jumped ship¡± on them. But, I may be getting ahead of myself.
For those 3 people who most likely haven¡¯t read this book (sorry about the sarcasm¡¦ but, I¡¯m feeling as though I may be the only person left on the planet who hasn¡¯t read it), the tale of this novel is one that is difficult to describe without giving away too much of the ending and the ¡°good parts¡± of the story. The best way that I can describe what this book is about is the story of a man and his son, faced with a future on earth described hereinabove while attempting to find food, water, and shelter while on the road to the coast. As the waters, rains, streams, lakes and snows are filled with ash, there is a lack of potable water. In addition, as the earth has been thoroughly burned, there is no plant life nor animal life to sustain human life. Now, what I didn¡¯t understand is what happened to the earth to create this situation. The reader is not informed of that. Was it the biblical apocalypse? In addition, why did some people survive and others not?
Cormac McCarthy Now, in speaking of the survivors¡¦ McCarthy sets forth the distinction between good and evil, dark and light. The ¡°good ones,¡± ¡°carry the fire.¡± The ¡°bad ones¡± are cannibals, thieves, and murderers. The reader accompanies the man and his son across the burned terrain on their goal to reach the ocean. What happens to them along the way, what they witness, who they meet, and how they survive is the nuts and bolts of this novel. Some of the visualizations that I received in reading this work are images that I¡¯d rather not be in my head at any given point. But, they do make me want to continue to strive towards salvation and entry into the Kingdom of Heaven because God KNOWS that I could never face the atrocities of living on earth post-apocalypse.
The ending, for me, leaves a lot to be desired. This shall not be misinterpreted to say that I¡¯m not glad that I read the book¡¦ I am. There are components of this story that made me think about deep, heavy issues. Some of those issues include being faced with the death of my child, having to murder another human in the face of survival, and the basic elements of human kindness. Thequotes of the book stated herein reflect what about the book that I did like and/or forced my thoughts.
Favorite Quotes of the Book: ¡°And the dreams so rich in color. How else would death call you? Waking in the cold day it all turned to ash instantly. Like certain ancient frescoes entombed for centuries suddenly exposed to the day.¡±
¡°If you break the little promises you¡¯ll break the big ones. That¡¯s what you said.¡± ¡°I know. But I won¡¯t.¡±
¡°What in God¡¯s name are you talking about? We¡¯re not survivors. We¡¯re the walking dead in a horror film.¡±
¡°He tried to remember the dream but he could not. All that was left was the feeling of it. He thought perhaps they¡¯d come to warn him. Of what? That he could not enkindle in the heart of the child what was ashes in his own. Even now some part of him wished they¡¯d never found this refuge. Some part of him always wished it to be over.¡±
¡°People were always getting ready for tomorrow. I didn¡¯t believe in that. Tomorrow wasn¡¯t getting ready for them. It didn¡¯t even know they were there.¡±
¡°When we¡¯re all gone at last then there¡¯ll be nobody here but Death and his days will be numbered too. He¡¯ll be out in the road there with nothing to do and nobody to do it to. He¡¯ll say: Where did everybody go? And that¡¯s how it will be. What¡¯s wrong with that?¡±
¡°When your dreams are of some world that never was or of some world that never will be and you are happy again then you will have given up. Do you understand? And you can¡¯t give up. I won¡¯t let you.¡±
Sher¡¯s ¡°Out of Ten¡± Scale: Truthfully, I am dreading this part of MY standard review. I have absolutely no idea how to rate this book. I kept reading because I wanted answers¡¦ I wanted to know the truth about the boy and if he was an angel/savior/son of God with a purpose¡¦. never really got that answer. The ending didn¡¯t help much. I wanted to know what caused this entire mess¡¦ never got that. The way that the book is written is with incorrect grammar, sogetting used to the rhythm of the book took some adjustment. The lack of names for these characters bothered me. Some of the vocabulary words in the book, I¡¯ve never heard before. As I was on vacation, I didn¡¯t have a dictionary handy so that was frustrating. The lack of richness in the communication between the man and his son left much to be desired. I mean, he taught his kid all of these things about the earth and now all they say is ¡°Okay.¡± ¡°Okay.¡± BUT, there are some things in this book that make you think hard and long. Some of the quotes and lessons in the book are stunningly brilliant, at least for me. SOOOO¡¦. (ugh, hate to give this rating)¡¦. I am giving it a 7 out of 10. You must think I¡¯m crazy giving a PULTIZER PRIZE WINNING BOOK a 7. I feel horrible saying it.

Best known for his Border Trilogy, hailed in the San Francisco Chronicle as "an American classic to stand with the finest literary achievements of the century," Cormac McCarthy has written ten rich and often brutal novels, including the bestsellingNo Country for Old Men, andThe Road. Profoundly dark, told in spare, searing prose,The Roadis a post-apocalyptic masterpiece, one of the best books we've read this year, but in case you need a second (and expert) opinion, we asked Dennis Lehane, author of equally rich, occasionally bleak and brutal novels, to read it and give us his take. Read his glowing review below.--Daphne Durham
Guest Reviewer: Dennis Lehane
Dennis Lehane, master of the hard-boiled thriller, generated a cult following with his series about private investigators Patrick Kenzie and Angela Gennaro, wowed readers with the intense and gut-wrenchingMystic River, blew fans all away with the mind-bendingShutter Island, and switches gears withCoronado, his new collection of gritty short stories (and one play).
Cormac McCarthy sets his new novel,The Road, in a post-apocalyptic blight of gray skies that drizzle ash, a world in which all matter of wildlife is extinct, starvation is not only prevalent but nearly all-encompassing, and marauding bands of cannibals roam the environment with pieces of human flesh stuck between their teeth. If this sounds oppressive and dispiriting, it is. McCarthy may have just set to paper the definitive vision of the world after nuclear war, and in this recent age of relentless saber-rattling by the global powers, it's not much of a leap to feel his vision could be not far off the mark nor, sadly, right around the corner. Stealing across this horrific (and that's the only word for it) landscape are an unnamed man and his emaciated son, a boy probably around the age of ten. It is the love the father feels for his son, a love as deep and acute as his grief, that could surprise readers of McCarthy's previous work. McCarthy's Gnostic impressions of mankind have left very little place for love. In fact that greatest love affair in any of his novels, I would argue, occurs between the Billy Parham and the wolf inThe Crossing. But here the love of a desperate father for his sickly son transcends all else. McCarthy has always written about the battle between light and darkness; the darkness usually comprises 99.9% of the world, while any illumination is the weak shaft thrown by a penlight running low on batteries. InThe Road, those batteries are almost out--the entire world is, quite literally, dying--so the final affirmation of hope in the novel's closing pages is all the more shocking and maybe all the more enduring as the boy takes all of his father's (and McCarthy's) rage at the hopeless folly of man and lays it down, lifting up, in its place, the oddest of all things: faith.--Dennis Lehane

The searing, postapocalyptic novel destined to become Cormac McCarthy's masterpiece.
A father and his son walk alone through burned America. Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark. Their destination is the coast, although they don't know what, if anything, awaits them there. They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food—and each other.
The Roadis the profoundly moving story of a journey. It boldly imagines a future in which no hope remains, but in which the father and his son, "each the other's world entire," are sustained by love. Awesome in the totality of its vision, it is an unflinching meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness, desperate tenacity, and the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the face of total devastation.

(Fast-Paced Conspiracy Action)
(Dan Brown knows how to write a provoking thriller!!!!) I read this book after already reading The Da Vinci Code by the same author. It seemed to me that both books started off strong, with good exposition and a compelling story line. Unfortunately, both felt rushed and clumsy in the end. It was as though the author were a student up against a midnight deadline and just whipped off a few last chapters to close. Lousy endings, but a fun read for 80% of the book. This was a used book but still in excellent condition. Love the story line!!!! Fantastic book, could not put it down. Conditon was not as described but that is the chance you take buying used books. Robert Langdon is a Harvard symbologist summoned out of bed to Vatican City, where terrorists claiming to be the fabled Illuminati have hidden a stolen bomb capable of wiping out the Holy City along with a chunk of Rome. As Robert attempts to find the bomb's location while simultaneously tracking down the four likely selections for the Papacy before they are all sacrificed to the altars of science, he must evade an assassin and a possible threat from inside the Vatican itself.
Angels&Demons is a non-stop thriller from the very get-go, and a very enjoyable read for history and religion fans. The book does have some factual flaws, but just remember: on the back, it says "fiction." This is by no means a history textbook and it isn't meant to be treated as such.
One issue with the book is Brown's style of writing. The oft-used italics to emphasize certain words become annoying and ill-placed, and the very plain description of the surroundings and actions can be cumbersome. The characters are not very interesting or hugely developed, which detracts from the adventure of the story. But these flaws shouldn't have any significant bearing on the story for someone looking for a quick thrill.
Angels&Demons is widely considered to be Dan Brown's best work to date, and for good reason: it improves leaps and bounds over Brown's previous novels despite mechanical issues and is a genuinely adventurous read. Would definitely recommend. Like many, I came across Dan Brown during the Da Vinci Code craze, and having enjoyed that book quite a bit, I was compelled to read this prequel before the movie came out. Boy, was I glad!
A lot of people told me this wasn't as good as TDVC but I must disagree - it was just as good if not better. The pace is non-stop and the action never ends. Puzzles around every corner and a twist that I never saw coming. Though much of the book is pure fiction, the intermixing of fact and real descriptions of the Vatican made this feel like a genuinely intelligent thriller.
Definitely pick this up if you're looking for fast-paced page-turner. It'll keep you reading until the very end. Also I highly recommend the Da Vinci Code next if you haven't read it already, or even if you have, it might be time to read it again before the exciting 3rd adventure of Robert Langdon comes out with The Lost Symbol. It takes guts to write a novel that combines an ancient secret brotherhood, the Swiss Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire, a papal conclave, mysterious ambigrams, a plot against the Vatican, a mad scientist in a wheelchair, particles of antimatter, jets that can travel 15,000 miles per hour, crafty assassins, a beautiful Italian physicist, and a Harvard professor of religious iconology. It takes talent to make that novel anything but ridiculous. Kudos to Dan Brown (Digital Fortress) for achieving the nearly impossible. Angels&Demons is a no-holds-barred, pull-out-all-the-stops, breathless tangle of a thriller--think Katherine Neville'sThe Eight(but cleverer) or Umberto Eco'sFoucault's Pendulum(but more accessible).Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon is shocked to find proof that the legendary secret society, the Illuminati--dedicated since the time of Galileo to promoting the interests of science and condemning the blind faith of Catholicism--is alive, well, and murderously active. Brilliant physicist Leonardo Vetra has been murdered, his eyes plucked out, and the society's ancient symbol branded upon his chest. His final discovery, antimatter, the most powerful and dangerous energy source known to man, has disappeared--only to be hidden somewhere beneath Vatican City on the eve of the election of a new pope. Langdon and Vittoria, Vetra's daughter and colleague, embark on a frantic hunt through the streets, churches, and catacombs of Rome, following a 400-year-old trail to the lair of the Illuminati, to prevent the incineration of civilization.Brown seems as much juggler as author--there are lots and lots of balls in the air in this novel, yet Brown manages to hurl the reader headlong into an almost surreal suspension of disbelief. While the reader might wish for a little more sardonic humor from Langdon, and a little less bombastic philosophizing on the eternal conflict between religion and science, these are less fatal flaws than niggling annoyances--readers should have no trouble skimming past them and immersing themselves in a heck of a good read. "Brain candy" it may be, but my! It's tasty.--Kelly Flynn
