Not a big deal, just not what I expected.
I also didn't think the short episodes were as cute as the movies they've done. I bought this DVD because I wanted the Snoodles Tale for my kids, but I'm sure they will like the other episodes too and you can never go wrong with the morals taught in the videos.

(ODST style) 『An interesting change from the "usual" style that we have come to expect from Bungie on the Halo franchise. Martin O"Donnel is correct; the feel of the music needed to be different. This wasn't about the Master Chief; it is about what the troopers encountered on New Mombasa after that massive Slipspace jump. The tone of the soundtrack is set by the fact that the city is literally left in ruins and that there are extremely high civilian causualties. To make matters worse; the troopers are forced to deal these issues and face the fact that the city is also being completely over-run with Covenent forces; leaving them greatly outnumbered. The music presents the listener with a dull sense of despair and almost no hope for victory. However, through the use of a lone saxaphone, our characters begin to gather thier momentum; regroup as best they can and face these dangers head-on. Throughout the soundtrack the tempo changes to alert the listener that things are happening and the tide is slowly turning to our characters favor. The fact that a mission still remains in effect is also on the listeners minds as well.
For those of you that are iterested, the soundtrack is definitely worth listing to. If your not interested, simply don't spend the money nor waste time posting insults about how bad you think the soundtrack is.

(ODST SOUNDTRACK REVIEW) 『Having played all the Halo games and purchasing all the Soundtracks, it was great to hear something very different. Gone is the 'Michael Flatley' River Dance Halo Theme, which drove me bonkers. Every time i heard that theme, i was waiting for all the characters on screen to start dancing. ODST brings more electric sounds and an ambient atmosphere to the score. Nice solid tunes, creating a lonely passive feel to the levels. Each character has a theme, each place amongst the city had a reflective passage of music so you knew where you were. In all, a great addtion to the Halo World. Great to have something different and no more scary dreams of 'River Dance' while playing Halo.』

(Here Fishy Fishy Fishy Fish) 『Finding Nemo: 6 out of 10: As a kid's movie Finding Nemo is great. If somehow your munchkins don't already own a copy, have the toys or God forbid seen the ice show (there is something about fish on ice that's a bit creepy. Funny but creepy.) Feel free to buy a copy. You'll get your moneys worth, as the little animatrons will undoubtedly view it endlessly.
But as an adult with no little minds of my own to feed the movie left me wanting. For one thing I've seen it before... about a hundred times before. Parent loses kid, kid loses dog, dog loses family, family loses toy, and so forth. Then the endless journey filled with danger, setbacks and endless comic relief characters begins. Finding Nemo, at least narratively, doesn't bring anything new to the party.
The fact that Pixar themselves are guilty of using this exact same plot in all their movies doesn't help matters. (Pixar's next feature The Incredibles would actually break this trend somewhat and is the most adult friendly toon of theirs to date) The simple fact is after being spoiled by Shrek (or even Ice Age) I like my kid films to be more accommodating to adults.
Not that some things don't work very well indeed (Bruce the 12 step shark and the "mine, mine, mine," seagulls are particularly effective). It's just that the whole film had a cloying sentimentality I usually associate with NBC Olympic coverage or a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie about a Depression Christmas.
That said kids will love it. The animation is spectacular. And as these things go it certainly is very well done. Just not my cup of tea I guess. I prefer my fish with a little more bite and lemon and butter.

(that period to the left is important)) 『Of all the children's movies I own, my daughter loves Finding Nemo the best and that in turn has had me watch Finding Nemo about 327 times. Thankfully it is a wonderful movie and the more I watched it the more I came to appreciate all the wonderful nuances of the story.
Basically this is a story of two clown fish: a father and a son. The son, Nemo, is captured by a diver who is also a dentist. Nemo winds up in the dentist's aquarium. Nemo's dad begins a quest to find his son making all kinds of friends along the way while Nemo and the rest of the aquarium fish plot how to escape.
It's a wonderful story and no wonder it has made hundreds of millions of dollars.
In addition to the great story, the visual rendering is just plain gorgeous. Everything is so crisp and vivid - it's like being in the ocean or in an aquarium.
If you have a child - do yourself a favor and get this for your kid. It has a ton of cautionary tales built in like "don't go with strangers" ---- my daughter keeps asking, "I want to see Nemo going with a stranger." and she buries her head against my chest when Nemo gets captured.
In addition, when your kid gets hooked on Nemo at least you can retain your sanity after watching it 200+ times....there are some shows out there that would just plain drive me nuts if I had to watch more than once. Nemo fortunately, is not one of them.
Get it and enjoy with your kid.』

In the end there were no survivors (human) to explain the true event, we can only assume as to where they fell. Gary Cole plays an outstanding George Armstrong Custer while unfortunately, the supporting cast representing the other pro-anti Custer elements are portrayed as thumb nails devoid of development or an understanding why they felt the way they did towards Custer. Overall, very enjoyable and fairly accurate.』

"Heat" is one of my all-time favorites and Michael Mann one of my favorite directors. I actually did not have huge expectations to this first incarnation of Heat on Blu-Ray--knowing the problems that exist on both the original 1999 DVD release (which I might add was pretty ok at the time, but not by today's standards) and the subsequent 2005 "Special Edition" (which had some interesting extras and commentary, but no change to the feature itself.)
But I mean honestly, I am in awe that not only does this disc have basically _the same_ audio track (re-encoded into Dolby TrueHD)--complete with the same muffled audio which for the most part totally lacks any kind of force, and dialogue which in some places is so low it borders on being ridiculous. I can honestly say that it had no improvement, whatsoever, over the Japanese DTS edition which was released a couple of years back (which also is far from perfect.)
Ok, granted. The audio is not 100%--that I might be able to live with. After all--this is close to being my favorite movie. However, it also has received a *minimal* upgrade on the video side.
No, I am not referring to the inherent film grain. This disc has many scenes which look like they are taken straight off the original DVD and upscaled to 1080p. The lack of detail is most prominent when pausing the movie at certain scenes. Background detail also varies strongly throughout. Yes, it is a Blu-Ray and obviously it will look better than the DVD but I have a quite respectable stack of older movies which completely puts this release in the dust. The bitrate is for the most part around 15-22Mbit/s, peaking at just under 30 in some cases; but seldom reaching this point.
Just to illustrate that minimal care has been given to the video aspect, note that it even has the _exact same_ color-change problem which occurs after Amy Brenneman's character (Eady) hangs up the phone with McCauley / De Niro (at 54:32)
While this is all bad enough, later on I actually notice that some of the dialogue has been *CUT OUT*. (Why haven't other reviewers noticed this?) Specifically where Diane Venora's character (Justine) is talking to Vincent Hanna / Pacino after the office party has ended. From the passage below, the first part ("you sift through the detritus") has been omitted(!). I actually had to rewind to verify this, as this kind of thing is pretty unusual, and not something I've noticed on any of the previous DVD versions:
You sift through the detritus, you read the terrain, you search for signs of passing, for the scent of your prey ... and then you hunt them down. That's the only thing you're committed to. The rest is the mess you leave as you pass through."
Just to make it clear--this was not some one-off problem with my disc or equipment causing it to skip ahead at that particular juncture. No drop-outs to the digital audio signal was witnessed either.
To me, cutting out dialogue (especially something as relevant and beautifully phrased) in such a fashion is completely baffling. I don't know what on earth happened to this release while it was mastered on Blu-Ray, but this just topped it all off and prompted me to eject the disc. I could not bear to see what other flaws or edits it might have been subjected to.
I might add that, never once have I not watched this movie to the end. And I have watched it probably 30 times. But this was truly an abysmal experience. Warner, are you listening? You have plenty of other awe-inspiring releases, and some which are decades older than this one which look (and some which sound) a zillion times better--Superman, North by Northwest, The Road Warrior, Bullitt, The Dirty Dozen--to name a few.
After I submit this review I will create a return request for this item. I urge all others who truly love this movie to do the same; and not put up with what is basically a repackaged&cut version of the original DVD.

(The Many Flames of Heat) 『Heat offers textured characters in what otherwise would be a a "cops and robbers" movie. The networking of criminals and police is interesting in itself. Add the emotional toll taken on Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, Val Kilmer, and Dennis Haysbert and their women, and the viewer sees the police and criminals as real people with real emotions. Even the coldest melt. Pacino's and DeNiro's characters meet one-on-one over coffee, and the arch-enemies reveal their mutual respect for one another--and their dedication to their craft. A classic scene.』
(My Favorite Movie !!!) 『THIS MOVIE IS VIOLENT - but, if you can get past that, you will find a truly AWESOME cynematic experience and epic performances by an all-star cast; it is an entirely new genre: it's not the traditional "cop" movie (like Lethal Weapon or Die Hard, where we instinctively root for the law), nor is it the traditional "gangster" movie (like Casino or Goodfellas, where we find ourselves sympathetic to the "bad guys"). Rather, time is split in this film, focusing almost equally on the lives of the "good" and the "bad" guys. So, who is the protagonist and who is the antagonist here? We see "good" guys sometimes doing "bad" things, and we see "bad" guys trying to do what would otherwise be considered the "right" thing. At its essence, Heat is a story about two powerful, determined men on opposite sides of the law: Neil is a career thief, who has never allowed anything/anyone into his life that he couldn't leave behind in an instant, if he felt the heat closing in; and Vincent, a driven detective, whose devotion to his job leaves him no time for his family. The film shows us how each man is the source of the other's misery - but when they collide, neither one is willing back down! An all-star cast + a "signature" Michael Mann ending = a very powerful movie!』

While not the sharpest transfer in my collection, the 5.1 audio is superb (clear dialogue; the gunfight after the bank job, the helicopter flyby leading to the face-to-face between Neil and Vincent, and the whining and screaming jets at LAX). Overlooking a few flaws (such as Vincent grabbing a shotgun off a uniformed cop at the hotel without identifying himself), HEAT is true to life, and the covert police techniques equally apply to the intelligence game. It is hard to understand why HEAT didn't make a bigger impact when in theater release.』
(understatement is underrated) 『I firmly believe Heat is the best movie ever made. The relatable and genuine characters drive the compelling and well-paced plot. The action is fresh and breathless, and the heralded shootout at the bank heist is amazing in its violence and complexity.
As a writer myself, what I appreciate most in this movie is the sincerity of the characters and the generally understated way they go about their lives. Conversations are stripped of all excess dialogue, but they are so much richer for it. I credit the ensemble nature of the cast for most of this commendable attribute to the movie. Good supporting actors with only a few minutes of screen time, like John Voight and William Fichtner, are engaging and entirely believable. What I think makes their performances effective is that the actors understand they do not support the movie themselves. Therefore, they can pour themselves into a two-minute scene without having to worry about sustaining that kind of effort over the course of a two-hour movie.
There are many more examples of this, but I will provide three.
When the pursued crew meets up to decide whether to rob a bank, Sizemore's character Cheritto is counseled to drop out of the heist because for someone in his situation it's an unnecessary risk. Sizemore's acting in this scene alone merits an Oscar nomination, even though he only delivers three lines. The emotion on his face, though, speaks paragraphs.
In another scene, Dennis Haysbert's character Donald is propositioned to participate in the bank heist at the last minute. He's on parole and is working a crummy job at a diner, and the temptation to return to the action, the money, and the world of crime that he is familiar with is so clear in his expression. What's also clear is the expression he gives to his internal conflict: He knows what he is doing is wrong, but he acts against it on impulse. By and large, these characters have already made their moral choices and are living with the consequences with a calm resignation.
Finally, Val Kilmer's character Chris goes to his wife after the botched heist. But with a simple gesture of her hand, she waves him off, as she is being surveiled by the police. He recognizes the signal and leaves, presumably never seeing her or his son again. In a gesture, his life is completely changed. Please, give us more on the order of the Twelve Dancing Princesses, Rapunzel, Swan Lake, or the Magic of Pegasus. Oh, and leave the cutesy modern lingo behind -- responding "sure" when the Prince asks Corinne to dance isn't hip, it's just stupid.』

(A 6 year old favorite - Barbie as Karate Kid) 『This movie currently ranks #1 as my daughter's favorite Barbie movie, and it's one of her favorite movies overall. The storyline is cute and holds her attention, and the modern music (especially a remake of EMF's Unbelievable) has her dancing around the living room, much to my amusement. The parent in me likes that Barbie has friends with varied skin colors and talents (though of course one can criticize that they are all thin and beautiful), and the message that girls (or anyone, even the dreamer Prince) can do whatever they dream of doing is great. My daughter also noticed and commented that Barbie had a lot to learn from the older woman in the movie. I liked that Barbie recognizes the hypocrisy of the Prince in having his own dreams but denying the dreams of others, and in the end, Barbie is too busy foiling plots to kill the King to go off on a date:)
Extras: there are bloopers which send my daughter into the giggles, and the video of the kitty singing Unbelievable is one of her favorites.
Overall: While the plot is crazy and unrealistic, the movie is entertaining to a kid and provides a storyline that is age appropriate. I saw this movie when it first came out in the early to mid 1990's&decided to re - rent this movie from my local library for a week yeah they only give one week on movies but that's fine by me besides it's free. Anyway's it may be tad early to start watching christmas movies but I get bored easily&I love A christmas Carol (the book written by charles Dicken's) Anyway's I love the muppet version of A Christmas Carol as Kermit playing as Bob Cratchit,&Gonzo narrating Charles Dicken's story with Rizzo the Rat. Good family movie for everyone&extremely funny with Gonzo&Rizzo they were hilarious narrating. I loved it. Over all the muppets version of A Christmas Carol is right on the money for being accurate in following the book A Christmas Carol which is great what is exactly what I wanted to see in the movie that it followed the book in which it did. So if you want to get any movie that portray's to A Christmas Carol by Charles Dicken's this would be the most accurate movie. I've seen so far. I highly recommend this movie to everyone. The Book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dicken's is one of my favorite book's to read.

I mean, we kept our lame old VCR down in the basement because we would forget to buy the DVD before Christmas each year and get stuck watching the VHS. I finally got motivated and ordered a copy for my parents and siblings.
The movie looks great, and the bonus features are pretty good considering the movie is from 1992. I SWEAR that a scene is missing from the part where Scrooge gets dumped by Belle and she sings that hilariously serious song "The Love is Gone." Not that I miss it, but we did notice it seemed shorter because we had less to make fun of.』

(The Best Dern Microwave Popcorn. Period.) 『I grew up in the days before microwave ovens, and I recall eating popcorn that was popped in a wire basket over a fireplace, as well as popped in a "hot air" popper and in all kinds of configurations on the stove-top, including the entertaining "Jiffy-Pop" that started off in an aluminum-foil covered pie pan and ended up fluffing up that aluminum-foil higher than a 1960's bee-hive hairdo.
Microwave popcorn has become so adept at using that now-universal kitchen device, I think I'd have a microwave if only for popcorn.
That being said - you can SEE that there are scads of competing brands. Still back before microwaves there were commercials starring Orville Redenbacher, and geeky as that guy seemed, he seemed to know something about popcorn.
NOW we have microwaves and, frankly, Orville's off-spring haven't kept up. "Pop-Secret" just plain pops better - their Popped kernels come out big and fluffy and just about every kernel pops. I empty the bag and the familiar residue of a teaspoon of unpopped kernels just plain isn't there.
THAT would be reason enough to rejoice, but Pop-Secret exceeds my expectations. Back in the days when we popped our own popcorn by time-consuming laborious processes, the key to enjoying the popcorn was what you did AFTER the popping - just before putting the stuff in your mouth. Back in those days mom taught us to melt a bit of butter and sprinkle that with just a touch of salt onto our snowy stacks of popped corn. DEEEEEE-licious.
In the years since some palates have been trained to become used to that greasy, sticky, oily stuff that's served in our nation's movie theatres. Okay if that's all you can get.... BUT - why would you want that at HOME?

I love popcorn. The Mrs. makes fun of me for how much I love it, but I think the Mrs. and God understand. (basic screen - you get what you paid) 『Got excited to find this screen shipped at such a good price. Received brand new in factory perfect box. Well packed. The box and screen are labeled "Panoview". The hanging components are the same of some other "no name" brand that I found on eBay. Still price was cheaper than eBay. The screen material feels like rubberized, so I guess you can make good on cleaning with a damp cloth. The screen has a 2" black frame literally painted on top of the screen. The screen material is thick, so it doesn't feel like it will tear easily. It reminds me of the plastic used to cover a picnic table. The mechanism makes it easy to pull down and fix it at any length you want. It will stay. My problem has been to find an easy way of making it roll up all the way. I found that the easiest way to store, is to pull the screen all the way out, give it a quick tug and let it roll quickly, keeping control of the pull-handle at all times so it doesn't crash at the top. For me it was very easy to install hanging from the ceiling. You can also fasten to a wall by putting two screws almost all the way. The plastic end covers of the screen have slots that lock on the screw heads. Image reflection from my Infocus X1 looks good from many angles, even during daylight but no direct sun. An affordable screen is what I was looking for and I can live with it. I would spend more money on a better screen, if this was not my first home theater "system".』

(Inconsistent quality: some DOA, others burnt OK but unplayable after several months) 『Out of a 50-spindle, I found five dead-on-arrival (DOA). My writing software quickly rejected them with an error message after a few seconds of burning. I found that if my writing software detected the blanks as "2x, 4x" or "2x, 4x, 6x" media, then I would have a greater chance of a coaster. Sometimes ejecting and reinserting the blank would cause the software to detect it correctly as "2x, 4x, 6x, 8x" media. All of the DOA's were toward the bottom of the spindle.
A few others that were successfully burnt and tested, became flaky after several months. My DVD player would refuse to play them initially. After a couple eject and reinsert cycles, the burned DVD would eventually play. It's not my player that's causing the trouble; inserting a pressed retail DVD would always spin up correctly.
I notice that unlike the Verbatim branded products, these lack a "Limited Lifetime Warranty" in the product description. Also, while the Verbatim branded products are at 16x, these have an "Up to 8x" disclaimer on the package label. The game begins with players choosing one of four collectible tokens to represent their team. C.S. Lewis wrote these absorbing tales over 50 years ago, yet they remain as fresh as ever and as appealing to adults as to young people. Part of the reason for this (besides the plots themselves) is that Lewis avoided the pitfalls a lot of later fantasy writers fall into, e.g., preoccupation with the details of spell-weaving/magic, hordes of supernumerary characters, drawn-out plots, and over-written scenery. Lewis tells just enough to let the reader's imagination take hold and create his/her own images, while keeping the cast of characters in each book manageable and interesting. The world he creates is unique unto itself, not the pseudo-medieval or spiritual-realm derivatives many fantasy writers fall back on.
Younger readers will enjoy the stories as "fairy tales" (as Lewis referred to them), while adults will find a positive spiritual message that is not, however, preachy. These books are a great value because you will reread them and always get something new from them as well as enjoying the characters who come to seem like familiar friends. They make a great gift for others or for yourself!』

In a world that has a seen all six films, a new wave of DK Readers is much appreciated. It gives us comfort that even though the movies are finished, the Star Wars experience isn't completely 'done.' As the title suggests, "The Story of Darth Vader" is a biography of Darth Vader. The first half of the book is spent on Anakin Skywalker. It looks at his life as a slave on Tatooine and his fateful meeting with Qui-Gon Jinn. Next, Anakin's apprenticeship with Obi-Wan Kenobi is explored. The Clone Wars would prove to be an important event for both the galaxy and young Skywalker. As expected, time is spent on Anakin's relationship to Padme Amidala and Chancellor Palpatine. Once Anakin turns to the dark side and becomes Darth Vader, his role in the new Empire is explained. A good deal of time is spent on Vader's relationship with his children. In particular, Luke Skywalker serves as being instrumental in Anakin's redemption. From the cradle to the grave, this book shows how a slave boy transformed into one of the most iconoclastic images of evil. Most pages include a text box that shares a tid-bit of related trivia. The scope includes the entire saga. The illustrations were lifted from all six films. While the pictures are high quality, the writing is also good. This new series has books for most levels of elementary readers. While most topics don't feature more than five sentences, the vocabulary runs high, so this title is best suited to readers on a fourth or fifth grade level. Those young readers who are ready for chapter books should pass this by altogether and make the plunge into "The Rise and Fall of Darth Vader."
