『Hot after his film "La Femme Nikita", in 1994 Luc Besson ("The Fifth Element", "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc", writer of "The Transporter" films) would go on to work on his film "Leon" (Leon the Professional). The film was written and directed by Besson and featured music by Eric Serra ("The Fifth Element", "The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc", "GoldenEye") and cinematography by Thierry Arbogast ("Babylon AD", "Femme Fatale", "Kiss of the Dragon", "The Messanger: The Story of Joan of Arc).

The film would reunite Besson with popular French action star Jean Reno (Mission: Impossible", "Ronin", "The Da Vinci Code", "The Pink Panther") who he worked on in "Nikita" and "Le grand bleu" and would be the first major film for 12-year-old actress at the time, Natalie Portman ("Star Wars: Episodes I-III", "V for Vendetta", "Paris, je `taime"). For the most part, the film received mostly positive critic reviews but also some controversy as the film would feature an older man raising a young girl and teaching her how the life of a hitman. Let alone, a 12-year-old who is attracted to an older man.

"Leon the Professional" had an original theatrical release but there was an extended version (or Director's Cut) featuring an extra 24-minutes of footage which focuses on Leon training Mathilda but also the emotional connection the two have for each other. Both are included on the Blu-ray release and personally, I prefer the extended version as the screenplay focuses a lot on the friendship between Leon and Mathilda.

VIDEO&AUDIO:

When I first saw "Leon the Professional", I admit that I was happy. Why? Many films created between 1986-1996 and released on Blu-ray, some really look their age, transfer is not all that great or is very soft but for "Leon the Professional", the colors are vibrant, blacks are nice and deep and detail can be seen. The old buildings that Leon and Mathilda live in, you can see all the cracks and how old they look. It just seems much more clearer. Sharpness is great and the colors just pop. There is a nice amount of grain as well and no softness. This doesn't look like a film that is 15-years-old. So, needless to say...picture quality is fantastic.

Audio quality is equally impressive. Featured in 5.1 DTS-HD MA (in English, French and Portuguese), there are really good action sequences and gun fights that really utilize the soundscape from the front, center and surround channels. Especially during the final confrontation, the film sounds great. Music by Eric Serra also helps create the mood. For the most part, this is not an action film that is overly aggressive as most of the film is dialogue-based between Leon and Mathilda but for the most part, when the action scenes do happen, you'll definitely hear those gun shots, machine gun rattling, explosions really clear.

Subtitles are in English, English SDH, French, Portuguese and Spanish.

# 10 Year Retrospective: Cast and Crew Look Back - (25:09) A featurette released on the 2004 DVD. A virtual reunion with interviews with the cast talking about a film they made 10 years ago. How the film came to be made and how the talent were cast for the film.
# Jean Reno: The Road to Leon - (12:25) A featurette about Jean Reno, his personal life of him growing up and his previous works that led to him playing the character of Leon.
# Natalie Portman: Starting Young - (13:49) Natalie Portman talks about reading the script at 11-years-old and wanting to do the part despite her parents feeling it was inappropriate. Working with Jean Reno and Luc Besson and how she was able to accomplish those emotional crying scenes and more.
# Fact Track - Viewers can watch the extended version of the film with a fact track.

JUDGMENT CALL:

"Leon the Professional" is a riveting, action-packed film. And for those who are familiar with Luc Besson films, you expect intense gunfighting sequences and plenty of destruction. Granted, he has done a lot more of that now with recent films but back in 1994, "Leon the Professional" was entertaining then and 15-years later, continues to be quite entertaining now.

Jean Reno is really good playing those action, hitman type of scenes. He's a tough guy but Luc Besson knows how to utilize his character quite well in his films. Gary Oldman is always a fantastic villain and his character Stansfield is just repulsive. Murdering young children definitely made the viewer want either Leon or Mathilda to really get their revenge on him by the end of the film. And the way it played out, was well-done. But as Reno and Oldman were fantastic, Natalie Portman was incredible. The actress demonstrated in this film that she can be an actress that can excel in emotional scenes and for the most part, back in 1994, there was no doubt in anyone's mind that she would grow up to be an actress to watch for. Overall, great acting by the three main characters of the film.

As for the controversy which led the film to be cut for its theatrical version, I can understand where opposition groups were coming from. Mathilda was a child that was raised in a dysfunctional setting and she has been emotionally damaged that the only person that she sees as her savior was Leon. A man who lives in isolation and his best friend is a plant. But of course, there is a sense of sadness that broods with the character of Leon and somehow, these two find comfort within each other. For Leon, it's more of a friend, while Mathilda, looks at it her emotions as being in love. Nevertheless, for those who get disturbed by those scenes of Mathilda's emotional anguish (ala Russian Roulette) and the fact that Leon trains Mathilda on how to kill people (using a paint gun), there is a theatrical version included on the Blu-ray that eliminates those scenes and an extended version that contains those extra 24 minutes.

As for the Blu-ray, I just felt the picture quality was fantastic for an early 90's film. With quite a few 90's films that looks its age, the amount of colors and detail for on this HD release was great and the audio quality was also great. Fans of the film will definitely enjoy this Blu-ray release, especially since it has both theatrical and extended versions of the film.

Overall, a solid Blu-ray release for "Leon the Professional". Highly recommended!』

『The "geniuses" who manage Sony Pictures have yet again demonstrated their utter contempt for American film watchers. This time they excised 23 minutes of vital scenes from the movie while remastering it in Blu-ray format.

Either they think we are all "Bible-thumpers" incapable of handling fictional adult themes or they think we are so stupid that we will purchase first this heavily-censored version and then in six months be happy to purchase a second Blu-ray version containing the actual movie Luc Besson shot.

Boycott this version! But definitely buy the 133 minute one when it is released in high definition.』

『Leon the Professional is a very well-made European-style movie with heart-warming and heart-rending moments along with some gruesome, graphic violence. The original director's cut, which is the European version, was edited for American audiences who might find some scenes "unsavory" regarding Mathilda's childish crush on Leon. But overall the film is a rough story of a man who learns to feel again, and a little girl who learns the harsh realities of that chaos they call life. Gary Oldman's performance of the psychotic DEA agent is reminiscent of his character in The Fifth Element. Pretty decent watching. The only unfortunate disappointment to the movie is the watered-down depiction of the SWAT team deployed to Leon's apartment in the final scenes, in which they resemble ski-masked bank robbers more than the helmeted thuggish cops they actually are.』

This is my review on A Muppets Christmas Carol - VHS.

I saw this movie when it first came out in the early to mid 1990's&decided to re - rent this movie from my local library for a week yeah they only give one week on movies but that's fine by me besides it's free. Anyway's it may be tad early to start watching christmas movies but I get bored easily&I love A christmas Carol (the book written by charles Dicken's) Anyway's I love the muppet version of A Christmas Carol as Kermit playing as Bob Cratchit,&Gonzo narrating Charles Dicken's story with Rizzo the Rat. Good family movie for everyone&extremely funny with Gonzo&Rizzo they were hilarious narrating. I loved it. Over all the muppets version of A Christmas Carol is right on the money for being accurate in following the book A Christmas Carol which is great what is exactly what I wanted to see in the movie that it followed the book in which it did. So if you want to get any movie that portray's to A Christmas Carol by Charles Dicken's this would be the most accurate movie. I've seen so far. I highly recommend this movie to everyone. The Book A Christmas Carol by Charles Dicken's is one of my favorite book's to read.

If you get into the Barbie movies like me there is only one I would not recommend to anyone which is called Barbie A Christmas Carol do not get the barbie version you'll be sadly dissappointed at how far off base it is from Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol. If you get any christmas carol movie I highly recommend A Muppet's Christmas Carol as opposed.

『Muppet Christmas Carol has been my family's Christmas Eve tradition for about 10 years. I mean, we kept our lame old VCR down in the basement because we would forget to buy the DVD before Christmas each year and get stuck watching the VHS. I finally got motivated and ordered a copy for my parents and siblings.

The movie looks great, and the bonus features are pretty good considering the movie is from 1992. I SWEAR that a scene is missing from the part where Scrooge gets dumped by Belle and she sings that hilariously serious song "The Love is Gone." Not that I miss it, but we did notice it seemed shorter because we had less to make fun of.』

『These chips are very good. Crunchy and tasty. Just the right amount of salt. Yet, I really don't see much of a difference as far as the chip being any healthier or a lot more tasty than other kettle chips. They leave your fingers very greasy. (I guess all kettle chips do that though). The bottom of every bag was full of broken, greasy pieces of chip. Maybe my shipment just got banged around too much. They DO taste good and it is hard to put them down. I finish off a bag every time I open one. (I am not a big eater either) I try to eat a sandwich with them as to not polish off a whole bag at one setting:)Overall, I would try these again.』

『I wish I had filmed what I have to say here. After months of dealing with maxtor/Seagate (they told me to buy disk repair software) and then trying to get the damn thing working again after I lost about 135 GB of iTunes, documents, and photos, I took the 750 GB version of this product out to the garage and used a sledgehammer on it. Very satisfying results. The only other positive thing I can say is that at least I bought it on clearance at a local office supply, which also refused any responsibility when it started to whisper its swan song and then went catatonic, and unrepairable. It is now in a landfill somewhere, in fifteen pieces, which is where yours will be, too, within six months of your buying this hunk of worthless junk. Another bit of advice: when worse comes to worst, use the biggest sledge you can manage. Mine is a twelve-pounder.』

A 64 bit system will only recognize this Drive as a plain Drive. I you setup any of its security features, it will not show in your computer. If you moved this Drive from a 32 bit system to a 64 bit you must first unlock its security features otherwise it won't work. Maxtor does not provide a solution to this problem, beware

(A Prelude to a Fabulous Vacation!!!)
『I purchased this for my 4 yr. old daughter for her birthday. This along with the "secret" that we'd been hiding for some time..."we're going to Disneyland"

It was wonderful for her to see what she was about to experience and what a great way to add excitement to the 6 hour drive to L.A.!!! Both of my kids love it (my son is 20 months). It's also been a good way to remember all the fun we had when we were there!

『I love it, we watched this before going to Disneyland and it made me that much more excited to go back. I love being able to find all these old classics on DVD now because it sure brings back a lot of memories. I grew up watching these Sing Alongs over and over, so much that the VHS tapes were ruined (lol). So for all you Disney and Disneyland fans this is a must have.

I wish people would understand that this Sing Along is called "Disneyland Fun"... so for the entire DVD to be about Disneyland is more than expected... plus if you had seen this when you were younger than it should be no surprise to you. As well as Grim Grinning Ghosts and how some feel it should have been cut out of the DVD... the Haunted Mansion is a huge part of Disneyland, so if Disney would have cut that segment out of the DVD... well I would have been outraged. Sure its scary if your like two years old, so then fast forward it if thats the case...

Overall, excellent purchase, loved it, still do and always will!

『It's easy to see why this is one of the bestselling sing-alongs from Disney: it plays like the ultimate family-vacation home movie. Instead of fleeting glimpses of your favorite characters on your home videos of Disneyland, this 27-minute episode showcases Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, and their friends hanging out with kids inside the Magic Kingdom singing (well, their lips don't move) such popular songs as " Zip a Dee Do Dah," "It's a Small World," and "Step in Time" with the lyrics appearing on screen for youngsters. The one drawback is the video was shot in 1990, so none of the newer rides are shown, and worse yet, some older rides seen aren't around anymore ("Mom, why didn't we go on the submarine?"). 『I tell you the more I am getting to know "Sid" the more that this little guy is growing on me.

I love the characters, I love the concept and I love the fact that Sid and his friends clearly and easily explain the scientific dynamics on how things change.

I am sure if you are a parent you have heard the "How does..." and "Why does..." questions a million times. With my twins I get questions thrown at me at a double rate.

Sid the Science Kid is a perfect video for little ones and entertaining enough to keep grown ups listening as well.

With 115 minutes of video and four episodes: My Mushy Banana, My Shrinking Shoes, My Ice Pops and The Perfect Pancake...you not only receive entertainment but a wonderful start on teaching your children to love science.

I hated the annual science fair at school during my elementary years but if there were cartoons like "Sid the Science Kid - Change Happens" there may have been a lot of change in my views of science. I must be honest and say that I wasn't really sure what makes a Banana turn brown until I saw this video. I know sad, huh? But hey, now I know and so do the twins! Seems like Sid is doing his job!

My three year old boy and 5 year old girl love Sid, and prefer this collection "Change Happens" over the other just released collection The Bug Club. The rotten banana episode is a particular favorite, with the kids talking about "decay" the whole day long. This DVD is almost two hours long (115 minutes) but if you act now you will get a bonus DVD disk containing an additional 2 hours of content (134 minutes).

Early purchasers will also an additional DVD called Front Row Fun starring an additional episode of Sid (on our disk we got the episode Why do we need Charts) as well as episodes of WorldWorld, Dive Olly Dive!, Hermie and Friends, Pocoyo and Hopla. This is a real bargain for the price. A super show produced by Jim Henson's studio and directed by his son Brian Henson. Highly recommended.』

『This is a humble collection of America's chef of all times, Julia Child. It contains 3 dvds with a random (there must have been a key but for a fresh viewer, it looks like random) selection of 18 episodes of her TV cooking show presented on TV in the 60s and 70s.

Though the espisodes were recorded and televized over 40 years ago, and most of them are just black-and-white, you would certainly not have a feeling that they are outdated. Well, the art of cooking is universal and timeless and if we speak of French cuisine, of which we should in this context, it is a classic view that Julia presents.

Julia Child shows you how to prepare vegetables, a roast goose, French savory crepes and even how to bake a piglet. You will see the very classic approach to cuisine, maybe with a little bit too much butter and too little olive oil, but maybe it is just the north-France approach where they cook with butter not olive oil :) Anyway, it is a new face of American cuisine inspired the French way by Julia Child.

A must-have for a fan of good cooking.』

『In an era when "inspired" American cooks were using unthickened Campbell's mushroom soup as a sauce, Julia Child was teaching viewers how to make the crayfish butter to bind the sauce forécrevisses à la Nantua.

This wonderful series, only slightly dated by the occasional reference to the difficulty of finding certain ingredients, like shallots, which have now become commonplace, still provides an excellent demonstration of techniques and recipes. And Julia's casual style and enthusiasm are irresistible.

My only complaint with this and the companion volume is that some fool decided to arrange the episodes by type of dish rather than chronologically. Hence, one misses the nostalgia of seeing the development and gradual improvement of all aspects of the show. In spite of that flaw, this a set to treasure.』

『I have been waiting for years for these DVDs to appear. Julia Child was an amazing woman who inspired me as a young bride to cook. She was, in addition to being a superb chef, a wonderful teacher. Her techniques and the recipes stand the test of time. My daughter, an excellent cook in her own right, has heard me talk about Julia Child and now she has her own copies of both DVDs. My daughter had watched Julia Child as a guest on television shows but now that she has actually seen the "Master Chef" in action she appreciates why I have been in love with Julia Child for so long. Julia Child goes back to the basics of cooking, showing the techniques that you have to master to become a really good cook.』

(Not Just Nostalgia -- Useful)
『This is a culinary time capsule. I was one year old when The French Chef debuted on TV, and yet tonight I made the creamed spinach featured in the series, and not only was it simple, economical, and DELICIOUS (truly, like something I might have had in a restaurant), but it also used just a tiny bit of butter and a tiny amount of cream, and the rest was stuff you'd have on hand (plus the spinach).

This is an EXCELLENT way to be cooking (perfectly Atkins even). I topped it off with two poached eggs, just as Julia suggested, and that was dinner.

So many recipes today require lots of ingredients and you end up using only a portion of what you have to buy (usually only to find the recipe wasn't well written, could have been improved, and wasn't all that worthwhile). This is truly real-world and economical cooking, and even better than that, what you learn cooking one thing (in which you've learned a simple little technique and dish to add to your repertoire) transfers to cooking other things, and before you know it you're a good cook and INSPIRED cook, not having to stick slavishly to someone else's recipe, but just cooking based on experience.

There's excellent kitchen wisdom in this series to go along with the nostalgia, and I'm looking forward to trying more -- tomorrow for lunch, in fact.

It was also fun to hear Julia say things like that you could pick up a French omelette pan for $2.50 or so when the particular episode was made, and to correct herself to say "brown" a dish after saying "gratinee" and thinking (at the time) no Americans would know what she was talking about -- same thing with common cooking terms we know today like "bouquet garni" that Julia's audience was being introduced to for the first time but that today most any cook is going to know. Additionally, Julia makes suggested wine pairings that I'm certain still hold up today.

This series was particularly good for the episodes on vegetables and eggs, as, again, you will have a small repertoire of things to try that are easy, excellent, and use ingredients you're likely to have on hand or can easily and economically pick up.

『I have loved mac/eddy for over 50 years. Each time I fall in love with them all over again. Every movie they made was unique. I found Maytime to be beautiful.The story was beautiful and sad. As in another of there movies the Bitter with the sweet.I wish the youth of today could watch the true artist of yesterday.Never will our world experience two more perfect talents.My only regret is I missed them in person.I promise you watch one and all eight will be part of your collection.』

(Memorable Maytime!)
『Maytime has all the elements of the great movie musical; it has a wonderful score, star-crossed lovers, an antagonist, and a believable love story at its core. This is the Nelson Eddy matinee idol that my mom snuck out of school to see. He is bright, witty, talented, fun, and self-effacing but loving with all his being. Jeanette is exactly who she should be; talented, beautiful, charismatic but capable of great emotion and love for Nelson. John Barrymore as her manager/husband makes us cringe as he jealously manipulates all aspects of Jeanette's life including her personal life. The climax upsets me to this day! But the ending has also never left me. No matter how many times I watch it, I cannot help but cry at the end. This is a movie one can watch at any age or stage in her life...and enjoy a good cry.』

(Did this film inspire James Cameron's Titanic?)
『This film was one of Irving Thalberg's personal projects. He had planned to make it a color film, but then he died of a heart attack in 1936 and the footage that had been shot was scrapped. A year later the project was resurrected resulting in the film we have today. It features the great voices of Jeanette McDonald and Nelson Eddy, lavish production values, some great examples of McDonald's singing in her prime, and one of the last great roles the legendary John Barrymore ever had. Although the movie is 70 years old, I'll just warn you that what could pass for spoilers are in the rest of the review.

I have the VHS tape, but I also saw it on TCM the other night as part of their guest programmers' month. During the film's introduction, the guest host said something that forced me to look at this film in a new light. She said "it's a lot like Titanic". You know, she was right. In many ways if you delete the music, make the site of the entire movie a doomed ship, and make John Barrymore a worse shot, you have James Cameron's Titanic. It makes me wonder how much he was influenced by this movie when he made his own film.

Where the films part ways is that this film more accurately portrays the attitudes of the times in which it was set than Titanic did. The love story is very moving and the music just adds to its poignancy. Also, John Barrymore turns in a perfect supporting performance as Jeanette's patron turned husband who realizes his wife doesn't love him but doesn't realize why until he sees Eddy and McDonald onstage together during a performance. Barrymore says few lines in this film, but his mannerisms and facial expressions say it all. If the ending of the movie doesn't tug at your heart, I don't know what will. Highly recommended.』

(Lavish operetta is a "must" for MacDonald/Eddy fans...)
『"Lavish" must have been a word expressly invented for MGM musicals of the '30s, '40s and '50s. There is no other word to describe how richly produced this film is for the singing sweethearts. In fact, the visual splendor is so glorious in B&W that you can't help thinking how much more glorious the whole thing would have been in the kind of Technicolor MGM bestowed the following year on SWEETHEARTS.

Not only lavish production-wise, but populated with so many singing extras and townspeople that you have to wonder what today's movie fans think of this sort of extravaganza produced in broad operetta style.

The story is heavy on romantic sentiment, scented with cherry blossoms during the early scenes and pretty looking snowflakes for the finale when the melodrama turns up the dramatics and the dreamy love affair is smashed by a fatal shot. Jeanette and Nelson may not have lingered for a farewell kiss, except that they do in the afterlife ending. For the finale, the cherry blossoms are falling again and it's all so Happy Valentine in conception that you can't help wondering how this is going over today except for the die-hard Jeannete and Nelson fans.

For those fans, this must be one of the most heavenly of all their films together. They sing everything from "Carry Me Back to Old Virginny" to operatic duos and the haunting "Will You Remember?", both in what seems like splendid voice. Jeanette is particularly lovely to look at while she sings "Les Filles de Cadiz" in a spectacular white ballgown that would be the envy of Marie Antoinette.

Jeanette gives a fine performance, carrying the film from the start with her turn as an old lady recalling her romance with a young operatic baritone. John Barrymore is on hand as her would-be lover, although one is never quite sure when he's reading his lines off a cue card over her shoulder. He was then at a critical stage of his personal demons and sad decline.

For MacDonald/Eddy fans this is a pure delight. Others beware.

『This is a good movie because of its subject and the fact it is relatively well done. However, it is not as good as the BBC version, "Through The Shadowlands." Although I'm a big Anthony Hopkins fan, I think Joss Ackland played a better Lewis than did Hopkins. Strangely, I was reminded of the role Hopkins played in "The Remains of the Day," in which he played an extremely inhibited individual. Lewis, however, while guarded was not so inhibited, and I think Ackland captured the right balance better than Hopkins did. A bigger difference, I thought, was in the role of Joy, where I found Claire Bloom both more believable and appealing than the Winger version. I thought Winger's NYC accent a little overdone. Also, Winger's approach was more in-your-face than Bloom's. Some have described Winger as "challenging" and Bloom as "passive" or more "traditional." I didn't see it that way. Certainly, the initiative that Joy took in starting their relationship was not passive or traditional. She came across to me as a very intelligent, highly literate and refined woman, and I thought she would have appealed to Lewis for that reason. When she has to deal with Lewis's stodgy Oxford friends, she is able to engage in dry repartee as an equal. In the Winger version, Joy substitutes insult for clever repartee. The BBC version reaches an emotional crescendo that this version struggles to attain but does not (IMO). In the BBC version Lewis spontaneously affirms his love of Joy and embrace of her as his wife, whereas Hopkins painfully struggles to do so and finally does because the script dictates it, but I found it not fully credible. The one drawback to the BBC version is that it is technically inferior, being an earlier TV production compared to the HBO movie.』

『I love this movie as much as my grandchildren do. Really cute story with great animation - keeps us all spellbound, and has sparked an interest in real bugs that has blossomed into a hobby! The little ones can't get enough of books about bugs, and love to spot and identify bugs they find in the back yard or on hikes. It all started when they watched A Bug's Life.

There are a number of items that go well with this movie, to make it a truly educational experience that if so fun for kids. The book, The Ant and the Grasshopper by Amy Lowry Poole is fun, The Ant and the Grasshopper, a living ant farm, Fascinations Antworks Illuminated, or Bugopoly Late for the Sky Bug-Opoly. So much for not having to buy one BluRay and one regular DVD for use in the car. Just don't get fooled. If you want a copy for your computer, this is great, but not what I was expecting.』

Brighter and more colorful than the other animated insect movie of 1998 (Antz),A Bug's Lifeis the sweetly told story of Flik (voiced by David Foley), an ant searching for better ways to be a bug. His colony unfortunately revolves around feeding and fearing the local grasshoppers (lead by Hopper, voiced with gleeful menace by Kevin Spacey). When Flik accidentally destroys the seasonal food supply for the grasshoppers he decides to look for help ("We need bigger bugs!"). The ants, led by Princess Atta (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), are eager to dispose of the troublesome Flik. Yet he finds help--a hearty bunch of bug warriors--and brings them back to the colony. Unfortunately they are just traveling performers afraid of conflict.

As withToy Story, the ensemble of creatures and voices is remarkable and often inspired. Highlights include wiseacre comedian Denis Leary as an un-ladylike ladybug, Joe Ranft as the German-accented caterpillar, David Hyde Pierce as a stick bug, and Michael McShane as a pair of unintelligible pillbugs. The scene-stealer is Atta's squeaky-voiced sister, baby Dot (Hayden Panettiere), who has a big sweet spot for Flik.

More gentle and kid-friendly thanAntz,A Bug Life'sstill has some good suspense and a wonderful demise of the villain. However, the film--a giant worldwide hit--will be remembered for its most creative touch: "outtakes" over the end creditsà la many live-action comedy films. These dozen or so scenes (both "editions" of outtakes are contained here) are brilliant and deserve a special place in film history right along with 1998's other most talked-about sequence: the opening Normandy invasion inSaving Private Ryan.

『So, we all either love or hate this show (which is something I've gathered from reading reviews online). Well, I'd have to say that I love the show which is surprising to me since I never really watched in the past. Probably because I was only 11 when it first came on the air.

The box set is extremely easy to navigate, compared to some other shows that are a bit of a hassle to get to the disc you want. The complete ALIAS is a really cool, original design--but you have to take a thing out, fold some things back, decipher which folder you want, then get the disc out of the cardboard sleeves. The complete BUFFY has a neat design as well, but the folders are stacked one on top of the other, so when you want season 7 you basically have to unload the whole thing. Both sets look cool, but are a bit of a pain.

The Ally McBeal set, on the outside, looks great and the cardboard case (both the slipcase and the inside one that holds the DVD sets) are sturdy enough since it'll just be setting on your shelf. Then you have the 6 DVD multi-cases sitting inside the box. Not much to look out, but I love these new "multi-pack" DVD cases--the ones that are just as big on the outside as a normal single DVD movie release, but they hold up to 6 DVDs. This is especially great if you want to A) just put the seasons on your regular DVD shelf or B) take a season with you, whether you're going to visit some folks, going on a plane ride, etc.

My only complaint--which almost made me give it 4--is that the set doesn't have anything in the way of an episode guide. I can find episode guides online, but it's nice to have a hard copy, and it wouldn't have cost too much to put even a flimsy little "pamphlet" style guide in each of the season sets. On the inside of each season case, there is what amounts to an episode list, breaking down which episode is on which disc--but it doesn't give the plot, air date, writer, etc. A booklet (like the ones released on the complete FRIENDS or GILMORE GIRLS sets) would have been great, but there's nothing like that in here.』

As for the product itself...
I love Ally Mcbeal! It used to be my favorite show to watch on TV every Monday. I looked forward to the release of the series for so long. It was very nice to see that finally all the seasons and episodes are in the same package all together. It was also a nice bonus to see the collection of songs in the final disk.

However, I have to say, for a long awaited series dvd like Ally Mcbeal, I would've expected more from the packaging of the dvds and also the DVD menu. Everything seems very basic. The menu interface seems like it is something that is bootlegged. Also, I would've expected more special features as well, (i.e. deleted scenes, gag reels, etc). I like the collection of songs a lot, but the CD would've been even better if it had included the songs sung by Robert Downey Jr. as well.

Overall, I am satisfied with the product because of the show itself.

『I bought this for my granddaughter who is 10. It was not difficult to download the music from a website or to transfer from a CD. I bought this product for the price only but found that it was far more versatile than my personal iPod. She loves it and has not difficulty navigating through the programs.』

Their answers are absolutely wrong. I think the company is being ran by High Schoolers, no joke .Emails back and forth are nonsense, epecially when I have so many questions about the product. My daughter wanted a camera and video camera for her birthday. She also loves music and movies. I thought this all in one MP3 video player would be the perfect gift. I bought this item from Walmart and the reviews were very decent. I can't believe why, but from my experience, Walmart does not post all reviews. Especially the negative ones. Also, the converter CD they sent for movies was a flop and the picture/video quality was as bad as you can get. 『Love the ginormous storage space on this external hard drive. The upright stand makes it easy to tuck in on the shelf next to my printer. With my MacBook Pro, it was literally just plug in, choose the Seagate as my backup device, and relax. (It's better to have all devices plugged in before you power up your laptop - it instantly recognizes new devices that way.)

『My external HDDs in use now total 4, and I wanted a sleek vertical form factor so that I could line them all up in a small space under the desk where they will be cool, protected and out of the way. The soft white glow from under the base and from the Seagate logo bathes one of the darkest places in the house with convenient and aesthetic walkway lighting when the computer is turned off or the drives are in use. Silent for practical purposes, I've not yet known them to overheat. The rest is speed, which is constrained by the cable standard in use, and reliability. As to the latter, all I can say is "so far so good" after about 6 weeks.』

『The Seagate FreeAgent Hard Drive for Mac is easy to set up and get running with Time Machine. Backup is automatic and you don't have to think about it. Moving or copying files to the hard drive was also easy.

However, for a product that is supposedly compatible with a Mac, the hard drive disconnects when my iMac goes to sleep. When coming out of sleep mode, the iMac gives an error message that the hard drive has disconnected. I emailed Seagate about this issue, and after several rounds of emails with multiple people, their "mac expert" said that the problem has something to do with the firewire connection. The Seagate person said it was an issue with Apple and the operating system, and that the hard drive was fine. If that is the case, then the drive is not fully compatible with the iMac. I've dealt with this issue by using sleep mode less frequently, and hoping that my files are getting backed up most of the time.』

『The 5.5 Generation iPod sounds better than the iPod Classics. Apple changed the sound components to an inferior brand and clearly degraded the sound quality. In addition, the scroll wheel on the 5.5 Gen. is much easier to navigate.

If you are looking for an iPod and need 80GB or less, this is the best choice for your money.』

『One has to wonder why it is still priced at $[...] (as of Oct. 2009).

Bought a refurbished one, after years of enjoying my Creative Zen Xtra and looking down on all iPods. So I looked at this only after it was pretty clear nobody in the world was doing any future development for my player, which I still love. The refurbished iPod 5.5 gen. 80Gb I bought has a new, brighter screen (a DYI fix if you're reasonably good with your hands and can follow instructions), new battery with higher capacity (nearly 18 hours and even easier to replace than the screen), and new hard drive. I still resent the fact that the user can't replace a batter - seems to be a religion with Apple, even on their mobile phones, when the rest of the civilized world can buy a new battery for any other mobile phone. Go figure.

But what made the decision easy for me - and I will warmly recommend this to anyone - was the availability of the open-source Rockbox firmware for this model (and many other iPod models while we're at it).

Available from [...], the firmware allows you to play (in addition to all of Apple's formats) "royalty free" formats like .ogg, FLAC (FREE Lossless Audio Codec), MPEG for video, plus features like gapless playback, ReplayGain support - the list goes on and on.

Like different themes? You can roll your own, or choose from a pretty wide gallery of themes, install them on your player, and customize them to your heart's content.

And then there's games. Doom? Packman - with the original look and feel? You got it. And applications to view photos, text files, contacts, calendars, and many more. Get a complete list at the rockbox site.

Oh, and the beauty of it? The original Apple firmware stays on your player, and you can dual-boot and switch between them.

Interestingly, any track you load via the iTunes software on your computer, with your player booted into the Apple firmware, will be visible to Rockbox - after you refresh the Rockbox database on the player. But the opposite is not true - Tracks you've loaded when the player was booted into Rockbox won't be visible to the Apple firmware.

You only need to download and install a small utility (Windows, Mac OS-X, Linux 32-bit, Linux 64-bit - and since this is open source, the source code is available too). This will in turn install a boot-loader on your player, and the operating-system software. It will go and fetch games, fonts, and themes for you, as well as updates to the OS, and install them on your player.

It will cost you nothing, so first, BACK UP YOUR iPod, and give it a try.』

『I'll keep this short and simple. I purchased a 120 Gig model and already owned the 80 Gig. I had both plugged into my Harmon-Kardon IPOD Dock qued to the same song. The 80 Gig model with Whitney Houston Singing sounded like she was singing in my ear. The 120 Gig sounded like she was singing with a towel over her mouth. So, I purchased this Second 80 gig model and gave away the 120 Giger... Teh 120 Gig model had a snappier interface but Shame on Apple for killing the sound by getting rid of the Wolfson DAC chip and substituting the Cirrus. Come on Mr. Jobs. You snuck in a product change.』

『my son loved his optimus prime costume, he still uses it after halloween for pretend play with his brother (who was bumblebee). note that this costume runs very small - my 4yo ds is in the 10% for height, and the costume fit him just right.』

『I was disappointed with the quality of this costume. It isn't as durable and is much cheaper than the picture lets on. The mask looked nothing like Optimus and the nose piece and elastic band fell off when my daughter first tried it on. The costume itself had developed a big runner by the time we got home from trick-or-treating. But my girl was happy that she could be Optimus for halloween. The irony of the situation is that I ordered two separate items; the costume was sent expedited and the other regular delivery. I received my other item 2 days before this costume.』

『This product was purchased for our son who is "stepping up" to a bigger bike and now, of course, needs a bigger helmet. The helmet fits snuggly and comes with an additional set of (somewhat) thicker foam pads that can easily be swapped out if the helmet needs to be made more snug. The elbow and knee pads are a good addition and they store easily right inside the helmet.』

My son, of course, LOVES the design. A few weeks after purchasing it, we went to the park and saw that another child had forgotten his helmet - it was the exact same helmet. The helmet we found there had kind of come apart, the plastic covering that has the design on it had come away from the white helmet material underneath. I suspect the same thing will eventually happen to our helmet, but I think a little glue to stick it back on would do the trick.』

『I bought this for family game night -parents early 40's kids tweens/early teens. The packaging and descriptions lead me to believe that it had many newer movies but in playing it thrice now we really haven't come across too many. The focus seems to be on movies from the 80' and 90's which makes it less fun for the kids. We've solved this by playing teams. If it had more movies from the 2000's, as I thought that it did I would have rated it higher.』

『There is a very good chance that if you are looking to purchase this for your kid, you were into GI Joe back in the 80s. Before you read on, try to remember how ruggedly built those old toys were. You could smash 'em, throw 'em into the grass and dirt, and they'd be ready the next day...month...my kid is now playing with those toys 25 years later.

This toy is built of cheap, thin plastic. I guarantee if your kid drops it ONCE from chest height, it's done. The thirty-five year old nerd in one of these reviews is not who these toys are meant for. Most of the pieces do not LOCK into place and need to constantly be put back into position. Have you ever heard of toy railings that "rest" in position?! They dont snap or lock into place! I didn't even bother w/ super-glue and threw away the railings. The hinges that many of the doors/sections rely on constantly need to be popped back into place, too. There is absolutely nothing solid on this. Cheap, cheap, cheap.

If my son's eyes didn't bug out when he saw this thing, I would have returned it. Save your money...and the sanity you'll lose trying to apply page after page after page of stickers 1/4 the size of your pinky fingernail.

『First of all I'd like to say, unlike the previous review I did not buy this for children. I am a 35 year old adult collector of toys. I grew up with GI Joe. This toy is definitely not for 5 year old toddlers. As a kid I wanted the USS Flag Ship so much I could taste the weird plastic smell.
THIS.. is like my childhood dream come true! The instructions are a bit vague, but with a little patience and some walking away, for breaks, this thing works perfectly and is cool as hell! Infinite possibilities for play and display. The price is well worth it.
The picture on the back of the box does NO JUSTICE! There are so many hidden features, fun things to TOY with.. and once you get it together it EASILY converts from vehicle to play setting. I've messed around with this thing for 3 hours and haven't even started with the decals! The stickers are half the fun, and this thing has A LOT!!!!!
THANK YOU HASBRO for finally making something more than worth the price.. FUN as well, but can you cut back on the darn twisty ties!?
Last but not least. This thing is HUGE! Back in the day the USS went for [..]. Today the PIT is[..]. If this movie franchise collects on its' trilogy promise, will the Flag sail again? If so we can expect a price tag for about [..] ... as long as it gives us ALL the AMENITIES like the PIT... I'LL BUY!

(The Pit - meets expectations, lots of fun, but overpriced)
『The Pit Headquarters:

Positives - Huge playset, lots of stuff, infinite play possibilities. My 2 five year olds love it, it occupies them for hours at a time. We keep it opened up and not in vehicle mode most of the time. Seems pretty durable, has held up to intense play for long stretches without any breaks.

Negatives - Lots of small parts, which I pretty much expected. No suprises. 5 sheets of stickers - would take HOURS to apply. I saw on another message board it took a guy 5 hours to put them all on. I didn't put on every last sticker, many are tiny and inconsequential. Seems they could have done a better job with this.

However if you're like me and my kids and pumped up for the movie, you'll pay too much for this - I don't regret buying it and it is a great playset, you won't be disappointed with it but again $100+ is too much.』
