(love it!!!! great christmas film!!!)
『i remember watching this movie when i was young. if i could refresh my memory, i remember the movie started off with julie and sara getting on their mother's nerves. when they overheard their stressful mother complaining how things are getting too much with her including the twins, the twins misunderstood thinking that she doesn't want them anymore. they then packed up their things and decided to lived with their grandmother. they hopped on some delivery truck and hooked up with bad people along the way. they eventually found their grandma and the bad guys went off to jail. i do remember towards the end the twins, their mother, and the delivery man went on some game show and SUPRISE!!! Bob Saget and Lori Laughlin make a cameo in this movie. gosh, i really do enjoy watching mk&ashley's movies. it seems that all of their movies up until perhaps our lips our sealed were great. everyone should get this film, it's a great christmas film for the whole family to enjoy.』

『I bought this movie at Target for five bucks! My two girls LOVE this dvd. This animation is not the best, but they dance to it and really enjoy it. The villian is actually great drama; the music is quite good in this dvd. I was pleasantly surprised by this five dollar purchase. The story is pretty good too.』

『I am 18 years old, and I am a lover of all Barbie movies. Princess and the Pauper is my favorite Barbie movie of all time! I watch it every time I feel sick to cheer me up. I love the songs, and the characters, and how colorful everything is. I recommend this to all little girls, and even some big ones too.』

『We bought this movie a couple of years ago for our 5 year old daughter. Not only did she love it but her 3 year old sister did as well. The best part is that is has held up over the last two years. Now 7 and 5 they still enjoy it and I'm not sick of it. The songs are good and memorable. The kids enjoy the romances, with the wedding at the end of course, but also enjoy the bad guys and the cats. I was concerned how well the Barbie movies would last for the girls as they got older. Some of them they have no interest in watching any more. But they still like this one. I highly recommend it.』

『Turandot is the one Puccini Opera that lends itself to the most opulent of settings. Franco Zefferelli is one of the few producer/directors who could fill the expanse of the Met stage with jewels in a setting. Domingo is at the height of his career and Marton is perfect as the icy princess. Kudos especially to Leona Mitchell as Liu and Paul Plishka as Calaf's father, Timur. Incidentally, there are the best Ping, Pang and Pong I've ever heard or seen. Grab your copy before it disappears from any profferings or gets a price like Julia Migenes' "Carmen" of $1,500.00. This production is a must-have for any listener of opera.』

(Puccini's Great Unfinished Opera)
『For those who are familiar with 'Madame Butterfly' and 'Tosca', 'Turandot' is a considerable hurdle for some opera viewers and lovers. Puccini was the great heir to Verdi, he had established himself with 'Manon Lescaut' and created hits with his verismo works such as 'Il Tabaro' and 'La Boheme'

So why is 'Turandot' a hurdle? First it was left unfinished. Puccini died in November 1924 succumbing to throat cancer. Alfano, under the great conductor Toscanini finished the opera. The composer had left behind sketches and notes for the last act. (When you watch the opera, everything is Puccini until Liu's final aria in Act III, scene 1.) So what begins as Puccini ends as what others believe Puccini wanted. Of course it is excellent, true to form and as good as its going to get. Secondly, despite Calaf's and Liu's moving arias (especially 'Nessum Dorma' made famous by the NFL and 'Moonstruck'), the music is getting closer and closer to the modern styles of Strauss, Berg and the atonal crowd of composers of the early twentieth century. Where before we hear the beautiful motifs of Mimi and Rudolfo, flowing in and out of the music, 'Turandot' offers a musical circus of expressions, medleys, tempos. It is a richer Puccini, diverse, eclectic, multicultural but not as endearing.

In consideration of the performances, I feel strongly it is Leona Mitchell as Liu that steals the show. As an audience we are drawn to the hero because he challenges Turandot, he wants to solve her three riddles and marry, all at the risk of losing his life. Yes, it is captivating and it keeps us bound to the story. But Domingo as Calaf and Eva Marton as the Princess, although we are satisfied with their performance, not completely moved. Perhaps it is the role of Liu but I'm sure, very positive it was Mitchell's delivery - her singing gave me shivers. This also has to do with Puccini's style at the time. When Domingo and Marton are given the chance to sing, they are closer to the modern whereas Liu's arias feel closer to the earlier Puccini most of us know and love. I fell in love with Mitchell's voice.

Domingo's strongest role, I feel is Otello. Here, he is just a little too close to not pulling it off. His 'Nessun Dorma' doesn't have the gravity and power of Pavarotti's. If there were any other weaknesses, it doesn't show until he sings at night about how none shall sleep. Impressive, obviously but it won't shatter through your soul. I still think Domingo is a better actor and his love for the princess is heartfelt.

This opera is a satisfying challenge. The staging is excellent, the sets incredible, all the exotic notes are there, the chorus delivers. Zeffirelli's direction is a must-see. It is a visual splendor matched with a haunting fairy tale story. Well worth the time and dedication to know it but truly, keep your eyes and ears open for Mitchell. She makes this production shine.』

(This is Turandot..it does not get better.)
『This is truly pucinni's turandot. this is the real thing. I cannot visualize truandot being performed with any additional grandeur, or display of fine opera on the stage. eva and placido are the ones. I have seen on stage zeffirellis producition of turandot and it is always super but any production is always compared to this one. Great opera at any price.』

(Bring back the1960's)
『Where's Cecil Beaton when you need him. When you have the greatest singers of the last half of the 20th century, Nilsson and Corelli, you don't need all this excess! The Met has toned this production down shortly after this broadcast. This production is so busy I hardly even noticed the singing. You'll find every thing you need on the stage but a basket ball court.』

(Funny... and suprisingly sentimental)
『Believe it not I never saw this film till 2009, as I didn't particularly like that 'Culkin kid'. I must admit that after seeing the movie I understand why it is well liked. It has wicked sight gags, but also is quite sentimental, esp when the disturbingly 'evil' kid, who wreaks havoc with two burglars, can do a psychological 'about-face' and bring an elderly grandfather together with his estranged son. A really nice and funny film worths 5 stars.』

(home alone review)
『One of my favorite movies, my son (age 5) also enjoys this movie along with Home Alone 2 Lost in New York, he thinks it's hilarious when Kevin fights back the thieves with his painfully funny traps.』

(Christmas Fun for all the Family)
『I remember I loved this film back when it came out, and I was still relatively young. I don't think I've seen it since, and I must admit to being a bit sceptical when I popped it into the player. Still is good as gold, it turned out! Not sure how much "reviewing" is needed here; has anyone not seen this film? It is one of the biggest hits ever, and more importantly; it was made while the US was still a European nation, which the movie really shows. It is so old there's even a Jewish bad guy, not a blond European one! My oh my!

Even though his family is portrayed as somewhat dysfunctional and strange, it still is a wonderful loving film about the family and what is important in life. Little Kevin has a bit of a fight with his mom over him reacting to his supposed "black sheep" status in the extended family. He says he wishes his family was gone; which *surprise surprise* happens the next morning, when the family leave for France and incidentally forgets to bring little eight-year-old Kevin with them in the chaos (they overslept). It is Christmas, and there's been a lot of burglaries in the neighbourhood, and it turns out thieves are indeed on the prowl. Kevin arms up, though, and places traps throughout the entire house, using his imagination to great effect. All for good comical effect and on the side of it all is the story about a lonely proud old man which Kevin eventually befriends and gives some life-changing advice. Not often something brings tears to my eyes, but there are some wonderful scenes in this film, centring on family and religion; the most important issues in life.

5 stars and a film for all the family that is still as good as it was when it came out.』

『Now and forever a favorite among kids, this 1990 comedy written by John Hughes (The Breakfast Club) and directed by Chris Columbus (Mrs. Doubtfire) ushered Macaulay Culkin onto the screen as a troubled 8-year-old who doesn't comfortably mesh with his large family. He's forced to grow a little after being accidentally left behind when his folks and siblings fly off to Paris. A good-looking boy, Culkin lights up the screen during several funny sequences, the most famous of which finds him screaming for joy when he realizes he's unsupervised in his own house. A bit wooden with dialogue, the then-little star's voice could grate on the nerves (especially in long, wise-child passages of pure bromide), but he unquestionably carries the film. Billie Bird and John Candy show up as two of the interesting strangers Culkin's character meets. Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern are entertainingly cartoonish as thieves, but the ensuing violence once the little hero decides to keep them out of his house is over-the-top.--Tom Keogh』

『Albert Finney gives the performance of a lifetime in this holiday classic. His transformation from a dreadful miser to a repenting philanthropist is nothing short of amazing. I am NOT a fan of musicals, except for a few main stay classics like The Wizard of Oz, Grease and Scrooge (of course). The songs in this are great, very entertaining, fun and full of life. It would be a real treat for this film to get re-mastered in HD for a special Blu-Ray edition. HDNET has played this classic in HD the past few years around the holidays; if you get an opportunity to see it in HD it's spectacular.

Out of all the Charles Dickens' versions, and there are many out there, this is hands down the best in my humble opinion. This is a do not miss Christmas (and I'm an atheist to boot) movie for me each year. The DVD transfer here is good with a nice Dolby Digital audio track. If you have not seen this movie you are in for a real treat. If you have seen this do yourself a favor and pick this up on DVD, you'll be happy you did.』

『I saw this for the first time in theatres when I was just 5 or 6 and it captivated me. Several more years than I like to think later, it's still the best take on Dickens' classic tale I've ever seen. I just saw the Disney remake with Jim Carrey this afternoon, and I still prefer Sir Albert Finney. This one is more faithful to the source material, less politically correct, and just a lot more fun. Tiny Tim is beautiful and angelic, Bob Crachit is just as we always envisioned him, and I have to strongly disagree with the non-customer review - the songs ARE wonderful and very memorable. The scene with the bed curtains unfortunately seems to be forever lost, but this is good family holiday fun!!』

『As expected, Albert Finney is extraordinary in his portrayal of Scrooge and Alec Guiness is both frightening (not too scary) and hilarious as Marley's Ghost. As is the case with all of the truly classic films, the casting (including the host of no names) is superb. Each character is completely believable. Likewise, the music fits very appropriately into the story-line, as it does in other musical classics such as "Fiddler on the Roof". It is not the typical musical where you have some progress in the story and then the action stops and the cast decides to have a singing and dance scene that seems to interrupt the film more than it adds to it, as is typical in many musicals. The music, song, and dance integrate perfectly into the flow of the movie. There are obviously many versions of "A Christmas Carol" that have been done over the years, but this is by far our family's favorite.』

(A film with many expectations to fulfill!)
『Having watched most of Robert De Niro's famed films since his beginnings ("Greetings" and "Mean streets"), along his countless artistic collaborations with his preferred director, Martin Scorsesse, I would not dare myself to qualify this film as notable. De Niro's most remarkable performances were focused through the seventies (Godfather II, Taxi driver, Deer hunter), eighties ( Ragging bull, Once upon a time in America, Angel heart, The mission, Untouchables and his genial cameo on Brazil) until the early nineties (Goodfellas and his most emblematic achievement until this date -at least to me- Awakenings). But since 1993, (when he makes his debut as director) De Niro (like Gene Hackman) seemed to have been abandoned by the supreme Dionysian muse and he has been repeated himself over and over again. Since "Cape fear", to be exact De Niro doesn't surprise me with his "inner fire" a similar bitter taste in this case, where his role as best actor of his generation is absolutely absent in this case.

A good start with a very dramatic premise, that deserved a major treatment, was obscured by a languorous script with serious dramatic fissures.

On the other hand, Tony Scott is miles away from his three best achievemnts of the past "Top Gun", "The hunger" and "True romance."

(Depressing thriller/pseudo-character study)
『It might say something about me that I'm not bothered too much by heavy screen violence, but what does bother me is the naked exposure of a tortured and twisted human being (films such as "Psycho", "Don't Go in the House", "Maniac", etc. -- which oftentimes DO feature heavy violence as well, but it's the psychological/personal display that disturbs me, not the violence).

One such individual is Gil Renaul, the crazed-fan/psycho-stalker that Robert DeNiro excellently portrays in "The Fan". When Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes), star player of Renault's beloved San Franscisco Giants. goes into a huge slump and has problems of his own, Renault steps in and tries to take things into his own hands, kidnapping/killing/harassing all the way. There's little more that can be gone into without spoiling the movie, though it's easily predictable given the predictability of the plot.

DeNiro's performance gets under your skin and is incredibly hard to watch; he truly convinces you that Gil is a complete sociopath through and through and as he gets more and more intense and more deranged and violent as the movie goes on, so his performance becomes all the more disturbing, uncomfortable, and hard to watch (but in a good way). Overall the film is decent but nothing exceptional, but recommended if you like these sorts of things.』

(A thriller that showcases a true psychotic)
『Gil Renard (Robert De Niro) isn't a lucky man. His separation from his wife is hostile, his business of selling knives is not going well, and he doesn't feel listened to. His only release is sports, watching and cheering for his favorite player, Bobby Rayburn (Wesley Snipes).

Bobby Rayburn, a 40 million dollar player, has troubles of his own as he falls into a slump, knowing his career is winding down as fellow player Juan Primo's (Benico Del Toro) star is rising. Primo now wears the "sacred" number 11 jersey. Rooting Bobby on every step of the way is manager Manny (John Leguizamo).

As Gil slides further down into the depths, he leans more and more on the game, forming an abnormal obsession with Bobby. With a restraining order taken out by his ex-wife, keeping him away from his son, and the loss of even his lowly job as knife salesman, how far will Gil finally lose himself in his fixation on Bobby Rayburn?

I tend to avoid movies that have even a dribble of sports in them, but I'm sure glad I tossed that rule aside for 'The Fan'. It's not about sports, its about an irrational fanatic. De Niro plays the psychotic fan so well, it could very well be his best performance yet. Snipes, Del Toro, and Leguizamo are fantastic, joined by the beautiful and talented Ellen Barkin as reporter Jewel Stern. The acting is superb and the tension is like a tight wire strung across your stomach. Adding to the film is the music of Nine Inch Nails during Gil's more psychotic episodes, complimenting the scenes with their grinding music and lyrics of alienation.

'The Fan' is a tense thriller that's not to be missed. Definitely worth a purchase. Enjoy!

『My children (2 and 4) love to watch this video. For a while, it was all they wanted to watch. It taught my two year old all her letter sounds.

In the story, Tad visits all 26 letter rooms in the talking letter factory and learns what each letter looks like and what sound it makes. Each letter and sound is presented in a creative way. The video also has a catchy song for learning letter sounds.

The video helped teach my children the alphabet, and I've heard good things about it from friends, too. Leap Frog does a good job of making fun, yet educational toys.』

『My son received this video as a gift when he was 9 months old. He is now 18 months as still loves it. For him, it is very engaging - he loves music and he seems to like the repetitive letter-sound song. As he has gotten older, he tries more and more to imitate the sounds he hears when the characters enter each room. He also calls out the names of things he sees in each room. Overall, I think this is a decent video for exposing young children to letters and sounds in isolation.

There are a few things about this video that "irk" me. I have a strong background in linguistics and early reading and the video presents some sounds for letters that are not completely accurate. Specifically, it is important when teaching the sounds of letters in isolation not to add vowels sounds to the consonant sounds. For the letter L the video presents the sound as ULL with the U emphasized prior to the L sound. This is very inaccurate - we don't say ULOLIPOP, etc. Also, for the letter Q the sound is presented as QWA. I find this very frustrating because Q makes a K sound, and it is only Q with U that makes the QWA sound. I am fully aware of the common tradition in education to teach students the Q sound with the U attached. Most of these people argue that students should be taught QU together because "Q is always followed by U". This is not true. While there are very few words that start with Q and are not followed by U - they do exist (QAT, etc.)!

Having said this, even with these few problems, I have yet to find a video that presents letter-sound associations in isolation that does it as well as this video.
