I picked this up for a class, and I have a deaf student who needs captioning. This really was an inconvenience and I could not show it since they couldn't be botheres to put captioning on the DVD.』
(Odyssey) 『I highly recommend you wait for the Blu-ray version as the sellers here have an extremely ridiculous idea of inflating what was once a less than fifteen dollar DVD movie to the current price. This is a pretty decent Hallmark sword and sandal movie with Armand Assante. It follows the Homer tale without to much literary license. I have seen it several times on TV and I can easily rent it as well. That is the way it will stay until it comes out in Blu-ray probably this or next year. Are there people stupid enough to pay over one hundred and fifty dollars for this movie?

(Fun to Watch) 『This movie was just so much fun to watch. It was originally made for TV, so when you watch it without commercials you're able to get the full effect of the story without interruptions. This is based on the story The Odyssey by Homer and it follows the story fairly well. Some of the adventures are left out, and some are unfortunate to be so, but the main part of the story of there so you don't feel they just did what they wanted with it.
The acting is very good for a TV movies, as are the special effects. They're not cheap looking which is something TV movies have a problem with sometimes. The costumes are good and the sets are too. You feel like you're with him traveling around the Mediterranean trying to find home.
The ending felt a little rushed to me though. I felt they could have spent a bit more time on that.』

(Elf) 『I guess with this kind of movie, you have to get into a cheerful state of mind before watching it, since it in all fairness is so embarrassing to watch at times you want to sink through the chair. The premise is easily enough explained, a human orphan baby; "Buddy", (probably not his real name originally, but you'll see why) crawls into Santa Claus' sack and returns to the North Pole with him. He is there adopted by an elderly elf in Santa's employ, and raised as an elf, among other elves. Naturally, since he grows up to be gigantic compared to his cohabitates, he in the end resolves (as so many adopted children) to find his true identity and his real father in the human world. He travels south, to New York City, where his father is a bitter workaholic publisher, not foreign to shortcuts in the world of business and neglectful of his wife and adolescent son. Buddy in full elf costume, seeks out his father (who doesn't know of his existence) and looks for his recognition and love. The twist is, that Buddy really believes he is an elf and is steeped in "elf culture" (sugar is the basis of all meals, making toys and Christmas is what life is all about and generally to be of good cheer no matter how life treats you, etc). This to say the least collides with the post-European society New York City has become, leading to hilarious situations. Ferrell does a wonderful enthusiastic elf that had me on the way to the floor at times with laughter. James Caan (the Jewish tough-guy in so many films) fills his role perfectly, as does the charming Zooey Deschanel. One could have wished for a better child actor than Buddy's half-brother, but that is the only minus I can find in the film. It is of course also quite sad to see how post-European the US is becoming, a city that was supposed to be the new York, has little that reminds one of that today and less every year.
Little more need to be said, it is a wonderful film for all the family about Christmas, the little that is left of it in this ironically most Jewish city in the world; New York City. The film itself has a very "Jewish feel" to it, but not really in any bad way, it is respectful of Christian celebration and treats it mostly nice, although it of course is a very childish portrait. 5 stars and really one of the few "family films" that can be enjoyed by the whole family, if one is able to just laugh for 1,5 hours in these troubled times.』

(Excellent use of 40 mins) 『I am an intermediate level excerciser and workout atleast 4-5 times a week for atleast one hour either in the Gymn or follow Cathe Fredrich series on Fit Tv. I wanted more variety to my work outs and judging by the reviews Jillian's DVDs seemed like the perfect addition. She definitely doesn't dissapoint. Today is my third consequetive day of using her DVD.
Her workouts are simple but tough to follow. I ended up sweating like crazy in the very first two circuits, which is quite rare for me even when running at 6mph on the treadmill. She kept all the major muscle groups in constant tension in the super sets, resulting in excellent use of time. This DVD is very good for those who don't want to use a lot equipment and are short on time. The only equipment you need is a pair of light hand weights.
I gave it a 4 star rating because I'm used to working out for atleast one full hour, and felt this DVD could have included a couple of extra optional circuits for those wanting to continue. Unlike some of the other advanced DVDs which let you blend and mix circuits to fit your schedule, this only had one basic workout to choose from or choose individual 6-minute circuit segments.
Neverthless, a great value for money. I don't really think its possible to lose 5 lbs/week as the back of the DVD cover claims.. as per my experience with 1000- 1500 calories diet per day and at this level/duration of exercise, I can burn upto 400 calories ONLY. I'm considering repeating the workout twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening to take advantage of the raised heartrate and elevated metabolism throughout the day to maximize fat burn.
On the whole, I like the DVD a lot. But still went back each time for another 40 min session of my other favourite trainer.

Richard Simmons spends more time trying to attract the attention of or look as sexy as the male dancers than he does giving solid exercise instruction (instruction? What instruction???).
The music isn't particularly good and the visuals are cluttered with too many people attempting too many individual moves. Anyone trying to exercise to the video had better have a solid understanding of how to exercise safely, since you don't get that from Richard Simmons. The video lacks his usual empathetic encouragement, and the moves aren't explained or user-friendly for the typical home exerciser.
Worse, the sexual gyrations in this video are inappropriate and idiotic. I doubt anyone is going to mistake Richard Simmons for a Latin lover, so why have various women rub up against him suggestively? What's the point? How does this help any of us get fit?

The moves r hard to follow until u get the hang of it but I worked up a real sweat trying. Sure, the dance steps were a bit hard to get down, so I just did my best to mimic the first time, but what fun. It was easier to learn than when I first tried the Richard Simmons Dance Your Pants Off. I had so much fun, that I didn't realize I was sweating until the cool down. The routine went fast too, because of the fun. Don't let the dance steps discourage you, just do your best and you'll be dancing away in no time. These dancing excercise tapes have been better than just a way to excercise. I have become better coordinated, more graceful, and learned dance steps, too.』

I strongly disagree with this. For some other type of video, it would be, but this is an EXERCISE video. You need to be able to see the people's feet/full body when they introduce a new step. However, the editor of this video often cuts to shots of people's muscles, faces, etc. at this critical time. I am usually very good at picking up aerobics moves, but I have trouble with this video because of the showy but poorly thought-out editing. Unlike others, I like the toning section (get Simmons cool weights!) but I agree that it is not enormously effective/strenuous. However, I think it helps to get your muscles ready for more effective toning later down the line. This section and the music are the main things I like about the video. I don't even think this product deserves one star but for the idea of it, I'll give it to them.
I purchased this product in the hopes of having music in my house, accessing it via a cool remote and playing different music in different rooms. I very excitedly paid $100 for overnight shipping which then took 4 days. Once the box arrived, I uncrated everything and proceeding to set the system up on a brand new installation of Windows 7, a machine that had nothing on it and for which I was going to just stream music from. I'm a software engineer and like to think of myself as relatively smart. I had a friend with me who is also a software engineer... 8 hours later, the system simply would not recognize anything except the conductor. Finally, after removing everything and resetting up the system from scratch, opening up all firewalls, etc. I got the system to work...except the remote...that would never work and no amount of resets, no firmware updates, nothing would remove the "system busy" message. Then disaster occurred, Windows did an update (clean machine) and rebooted and wala when it came back everything was gone again (although to be fair, even though Cisco's software didn't recognize it, the Conductor would still stream music if I asked it to but only directly from the interface, my PC no longer recognized it). Back to square 1.
So frustrated I decided I would never trust this product and decided to return it... only I purchased it direct. Not only do I have to pay to ship back the most expensive consumer product I've purchased but they want me to pay twice because they shipped it in one box but require me to ship items INDIVIDUALLY back. On top of that I've called their customer support 4x... one time I had the customer service rep ridicule me... another time they promised to call back by end of day... nothing... emails with 24 hour response, I don't think so... 5 days later I'm still waiting for a response.
Yesterday I had the equivalent sonos system delivered. 5 minutes flat to install and music streaming downstairs!! And, I don't even need the killer remote control because my two iPhones and my iTouch can all control the system from anywhere in the house.
Cisco/Linksys, you're not ready for consumers. Buyer beware.』
(Poor player interface) 『I never review products but wanted to pass along my thoughts on all of the Linksys home audio products. I recently purchased 2 sets of the Premier package for a 4 room house that I wanted to stream music throughout. I liked the idea of a Director so that I could plug in the linksys speakers for the 2 rooms without a stereo system and the Player in the 2 rooms with stereos in them already. The set up took about 10 hours for me to complete. This included about 2 hours on my own, 4 hours (all in one setting) with the Linksys rep logged into my computer configuring everything, another 1-2 hours on the phone again with Linksys, and another 2 hours on my own. But all that being said, I didn't give this a 1* review because of the setup. The help was very good and eventually I got everything talking to each other as advertised. HOWEVER, after setup, I attempted to play a few albums from my collection. That's when I realized that the 'player' software was absolutely unusable. Without going into painstaking details, rest assured this is NO ITUNES. Albums can't be played in their entirety; only ONE SONG AT A TIME. This is from the Director's screen, the Controllers screen (ps. controller wireless range is poor, maybe 1/3 of other wireless devices), or from your computer control software. There was no option for playing 'entire album' from the list of songs contrary to what the online manual states. And, when you select Genre, it gives you a selection of albums.... who remembers which Greatest Hits goes with which artist... should be programed to go Genre-ARTIST-Album-Song like in iTunes. Long story short, the concept is nice, and the package nice, but the functionality is very poor. I have since purchased 3 AirPort Express', an Apple TV, 2 Bose sound systems, and an iTouch (to function as a remote when not in front of my computer or appleTV) to stream iTunes throughout my house perfectly. It actually COST LESS than all of the linksys products. Research and make your own decision. If you like iTunes then I strongly recommend staying away from Linksys... you and your party guests won't have any idea how to play music.』
(9 Hours of Customer Support and it still doesn't work) 『I was very excited to get this product. Seemed like a great product at a very good price. I was one of the first to order it. I even ordered the new Linksys Dual N Band wireless router to make sure that my router worked with the components. Set up the router with small problems. Pretty straightforward (and this is my third wireless router setup).
Then I tried to set up a Director. No luck after spending over 6 hours during the weekend. It would recognize while I was hardwired then wouldn't recognize the network when operated wirelessly. Even right next to the router.
Same with the controller. I called customer support and spent 9 hours of my time (and theirs) over two evenings trouble shooting. And we still couldn't get it to work reliably. My opinion - this is a piece of crap and not yet ready for primetime. I'm looking for another solution - this one is not it at all. I sent them back.

Great sounding product that was a lot easier to setup that I would have expected. I received the package with the 3 components, stuck the CD in my computer, and it walked me through the few easy steps required for each component and I was up and running in 20 minutes. I was surprised to find that it found all of my music on my laptop right away, categorized them by album, genra, artist, etc. perfectly - complete with album art, and was able to access them without issue. Cool!
I setup the Player in my living room, connected digitally to my Home Theater system, and found the sound to be outstanding. CD quality - as it should be given I was playing .wav files, but even the compressed files sounded exceptional.
The Director is setup in my bedroom and despite being in a completely different part of the house from my wireless router, has no issues with connectivity. And while not up to par with my Home Theater, the sound (with the matching Linksys speakers) is above average for what you'd expect for the price. The screen is bright and beautiful and easy to see from across the room.
The wireless controller found all of the "zones" I setup right away, also has a bright and beautiful display with big touchscreen buttons that are easy to click for my big fingers. It is intuitive to use and offers all of the playback features you could want.
The biggest suprise, though, is the Rhapsody integration. Pretty much every song you could ever think of on tap, tons of channels, and all in CD quality. In fact, I was amazed at the quality of the streaming music - definitely comparible to my dedicated CD player.
Given the sophistication of the product and the technology, I would have expected a few speedbumps along the way, but so far have found none. I am extremely happy with this system, and found it worth every penny. The flexibility, qualty, and ease of use are all exceptional, and access to Rhapsody is way better than I could have hoped for.

(Great System Once Installed) 『Overall: We have been lusting after friends in ceiling music systems for years and I'm ecstatic to have found a wireless solution. I have to say that I am very happy with my system and find the Rhapsody and iPod implementation very cool... I am a Rhapsody user and was very excited to see that all of my "My Rhapsody" artists, music, and playlists automatically show up on all of the components. I went to my PC and added more music to my Rhapsody playlists and was surprised that it showed up immediately on the controller. I plugged in my husband's iPod and I could see everything on the iPod from the wireless controller. What was super cool is that I created a playlist that started with the iPod and added more music from Rhapsody and it was seamless - very cool.
"Party Mode": We had a dinner party and it was really fun watching our friends search Rhapsody for music on the controller and add stuff to the play list, although I was a little worried with the initial My Turn! madness (pulling the controler from each other) as they tried to one up each other on the latest in 'cool' music.
My Setup: I connected the "Player" to our receiver in the living room which drives our home theater system but also drives our speakers outside. I connected the "Director" to some Klipsh speakers I already had in the Kid's play room. It's awesome to be able to sit outside now and control the music vs going inside to change the volume and / or DirecTV music channel. The synchronization is really cool but I am going to need to get at least 1 more unit to get good coverage in the house.
Installation: The setup was pretty straight forward and worked with no problems, although I had to wait a little longer than expected while the software was installed. Once the software install was complete, it was pretty straight forward to configure my systems. The wizard walks you through configuring the components for your wireless network I just entered my settings once and the wizard automatically pushes those settings to the device and verifies that wireless is working properly. You just connect each one to your router and the wizard pushes the settings and verifies that the device is on the network. After the initial setup, you take the systems to the rooms you want and plug them in - no additional configuration needed.
Using the System: I was able to figure out all of the basic capabilities without looking to the docs for help and later found a few additional cool tricks listed on the card that came with the controller. Although the wireless controller is touch screen, I find that most of the navigation that I do is using the scroll wheel (iPod Style with a center select) and that the main things I do with the touchscreen is search and play / stop music. The touchscreen works pretty well and noticed that it works really well when you use your fingernail vs your finger. The standard remote control was a very good touch and is working out great in the kids room (they don't get to touch the wireless one) - we setup a few favorite play lists and radio stations for them to listed to. Only one problem, you can't uninstall the upgrade. This horrible thing will not back up file with long file names, PERIOD. It comes formatted fat32, right. So you have to reformat it. How long do you think it would take to back up 170gb to this 1t? Try 4 days and counting with over 300 errors. I will try to call customer "support". But as we all know, you're lucky if you get a person that has a fundemental grasp of the English language. I'll be on hold forever and none will have a clue on how to fix the problem. If you're looking for new and inventive ways to develop headaches, this tool is perfect.』

(Great video quality+very good image quality+ease of use=awesome camera!) 『I've had my red T900 for a few weeks and here's a list of the things I love, in roughly decreasing order of importance:
- GREAT video quality. This camera shoots 720p videos at 30fps, and the quality both indoors and outdoors has far exceeded my expectations. I previously used a T100 but also use cameras from Fuji and Casio for some occasions, and the difference between the T900's 720p high-quality mode and the typical VGA fine mode on other cameras is like day and night. Not only do you get HDTV resolution, the colors are more vibrant and the clarity is just great.
- You can optically zoom the lens during video recording. This is a must-have feature for me as I mostly shoot video clips of my kids.
- Very good still picture quality. This is no digital SLR, for sure, and the image quality is probably not as excellent as Canon's and Panasonic's compact digital cameras, but it's still very good. I read some reviews before deciding on this camera and I had worries about picture quality, but they were dispelled the minute I reviewed the still images on my PC. Very good contrast and clarity, and they make great prints.
- Smile shutter. I never thought I'd buy into this feature, but now I absolutely love it! You can set the sensitivity to three levels, and you can even choose "child priority" or "adult priorit"! And it really works! This is just totally awesome for taking still shots of my kids. (Smile shutter does not work in video mode.)
- Large 3.5" touch-screen LCD. There're no conventional controls, just touch-screen, like most Sony camcorders. The LCD is 1920x480 in resolution, and the menu text looks a little jagged, but you'll love its brightness, fast speed, and clarity for viewing images.
- Fairly easy to use. Sony employs a top-level HOME menu system with sub menus, but it's not too confusing, just a tad harder to figure out the advanced stuff than on an, say, iPod touch.
- Stylish and feature-rich. This is quite thin but still features 4x optical zoom with optical stabilization. The zoom also works in movie-recording mode. It takes Memory Stick PRO Duo cards up to 16GB. Battery lasts about 150 pictures with flash. Not bad. It's light-weight so easy to carry in a pocket, too.

My son pointed out the pin on the flat piece which inserts into the launcher... if the pin is not facing up as the instructions indicate, then launching will be near impossible. We assembled it correctly and have no issues launching. However, there are some issues with this toy. First, there is no volume control and it is quite loud. Loud enough that I require my son to play with it in another room so the rest of us can have conversation. Second, the Bumblebee, Optimus Prime and "finish line" pieces are simply part of the exterior box which you must cut out yourself. The Bumblebee and Optimus Prime pieces have to be bent in such a way that they tear or break easily. Luckily these pieces are not necessary to make the toy work, but they look cool and your child will want them cut out and attached so it will look like it does on the box. They also do not cut out easily with a regular pair of (adult) scissors. Seems like it would have been simple enough to make these parts from plastic with stickers on them rather than part of the actual box. If the box is damaged, then these pieces are likely damaged too. And, because you have to cut up the box to fully assemble the toy, you no longer have it to return or store the toy if necessary. Third, this toy is not easily moved from room to room. Pieces come apart and for the most part they can be easily reassembled, but the cardboard pieces fall off and become more damaged each time they have to be re-attached. Lastly, for the price tag, this toy is not a good value. It looks and feels like a less than twenty dollar toy, not a forty to fifty dollar toy.』

However, it has a handle coming out of the back of the figure. This allows the kids to hold the handle and adds "play value," but kills the realism of the figure (real people don't have handles sticking out their backs). So, if you buy it for your kid, tell him or her to have fun. But it looks to me to be too fragile for much rough play! However, if you are an adult collector, here is what you can do about that annoying, realism-destroying handle sticking out of the figure's back: There are no electronics in the handle so no worries there. Rotate the handle upward, just like the instructions advise for locking the legs for "posing," the figure. Now...just unscrew the four tiny screws on the handle and it comes off. It is not irreversible if you change your mind. Now you have a small, white plastic piece sticking out the back with a small hole in it. This is perfect for screwing to a small stand you can easily fashion out of some scrap, sanded wood.

(Leonard Maltin's Classic Movie Guide) 『This turned out to be great; extremely useful. It is s great supplement to his annual guide.』
(essential guide, but a few suggestions to make it even better) 『I've been buying Leonard Maltin's annual movie guide since 1974 and I have never been swayed away from finding it to be the best guide out there of its type. Maltin's capsule reviews are peerless, managing to really capture the essence of a film in only a few lines, and even when mostly panning a film, pointing out the good parts. As comprehensive movies reference books go, Maltin's is the one to own. Since I gravitate more toward classic movies than current ones and watch TCM religiously, I was really happy when this guide came out. I would like to make several suggestions for a revised version (I hope there is one), however:
1) Bump up the cutoff year. Maltin and his editors obviously had to pick a cutoff date, and they chose 1960, but that seems a little arbitrary. True, times really changed during that decade, but I would move the cutoff date up a little to when the MPAA was formed and the era of the modern film really began: 1968 (or if you want to round it up, 1970). This would enable the inclusion of most of the classic black and white films of the 60s and incorporate those films that signaled the beginning of the modern era: Bonnie&Clyde (the modern crime film), Night of the Living Dead (the modern horror film), 2001 (the modern sci-fi film), etc. True, the book would be thicker, but see my next comment.
2) Offer a hardcover edition of the book. This is the type of guide you'll want to keep around forever, since there will never be that much updating to do (save adding more foreign/hitherto obscure films as they are released on DVD and reach a wider audience, so maybe update it every 5 years or longer). My paperback is only a couple of years old, but I refer to it so often it's already falling apart. A more durable hardcover book can also accommodate more pages.
3) Add more foreign films as they are released on DVD. I rarely run across an American film that isn't already included in the guide, but foreign films are a little less likely to appear here for the obvious reason that they are less known and widely seen in America. But companies like Criterion are digging up hitherto lesser-known foreign classics, and all of those should be in here (also, there are quite a few British B films missing). I should say, though, that Maltin is pretty good with the most important foreign films, especially French ones.
4) Include the production studio for each film. This is maybe not as essential an idea as those above, but knowing the studio is helpful. Various classic studios had their own styles and subjects (e.g., Warner brothers' gangster films, Universal's horror films, RKO's always reliable B-movies, the mostly horrible output of PRC and Monogram, great B studios like American International, Hammer, etc.), so it's often useful when coming across a film you've not known about before to know what studio produced it.
All in all, though, this is truly the best guide to classic films out there.』

You play a bee that works inside the hive to earn money and the main game happens outside the hive where you fly to different areas (park, someone's loft, office, restaurant, rainy streets, bee farm etc.) to fight enemies, pollinate flowers and collect stuff. To get different flight passes to reach these places, you need to earn honey drops by playing games (doing work inside the hive; e.g. cab driver, package delivery, honey collecting etc).
While the games and concept are very nice, sometimes creative and hilarious, the difficulty level won't challenge adults/teens. So you wont enjoy it unless you are a fan of the movie. However, the younger kids would love it! The difficulty level is quite forgiving and there are a wide variety of challeges and mini games that dont feel repetitive.
The sceneries are very pretty and detailed including the inside of restaurants / offices. Controls are quite intuitive and easy to use, both for flying (outside the hive) and walking around/driving (inside the hive). In some flying games, you just need to press the buttons or perform actions that appear on the screen! you don't use the actual flying controls. that's one boring part. I would have loved to fly around NY to explore a little bit!
Overall, a fun game for kids, boring for teens/adults!!』
