It's larger than I thought it would be, but the picture is great. The software does have some issues - I can only replay one video and then I have to completely close out the program and re-open it in order to play another video. I haven't had time to mess with it yet to see if I can get passed the glitch.』
(Works great despite more critical reviews) 『So I wanted to use the GardenWatchCam for everything except a garden! Heh... Unfortunately I couldn't find exact details on their website or elsewhere about the user customizable setting--which can go from 5 seconds to 12 hours in 1 second increments and comes set at 20 secs. (Not fast enough for clouds or driving unfortunately.)
Of the seven reviews here then, one hinted at it, but all had various issues.
Thankfully I don't share those problems. The timer on mine is exact to the second, per including a timer in a time lapse video. (Search YouTube for RJFerret, the Melting Ice Cubes Comparison shows a timer in the background so you may see for yourself.)
So I am very happy with the GardenWatchCam. It does more than it advertises!
Another reviewer couldn't hear the beeps the unit produces, let me tell you hearing them doesn't help. It gives two beeps when it's turned on as well as the same two beeps when it's turned off. So they are useless. You have to look at the green light (hard to see in daylight) to see that it's on. This light also blinks every 15 seconds and when your unit takes a picture.
Speaking of which, as another reviewer pointed out, it does not store individual picture files, it only produces an AVI file. If you want to composite a picture series you'll need to export frames from the video with other software. However this is FAR more desirable than producing thousands of picture files you'd need to assemble into a video.
There is no way to turn off the time/date stamp at the bottom, so you have to use software to crop the bottom 16 lines. Also it produces a video file that is set to 10 fps instead of the more usual 30 fps. I needed to find/download the (thankfully free) software program VirtualDub to crop and convert the video.
Someone complained that there wasn't much instruction for the included software. Well it simply has six entry fields. Two for time/date, three cover the interval (by hours/minutes/seconds), and the last is for which drive letter your system assigned to the USB flash drive. Only two buttons, OK or Cancel.
Unlike another, I found the manual to be good, the first two pages both explain and show how to assemble the pole, which is self explanatory, just stick it together! Heh... It also explains the lens setting, with exact details of the macro setting, again, obvious to anyone who has used a camera before.
Page seven covers operation, turning on/off, explaining the beeps and indicator lights (low battery and memory card full).
The final two pages cover installing the software (put in your CD and click install--there are no custom options even if you select expert install) and using the software (insert USB drive, note which letter it is assigned by your computer, choose time/date/period and click OK).
There are four things I would change, move the LEDs to the side of the unit so you can see them from front or back, ability to turn off the time/date stamp, make movies at 30 fps and provide a viewfinder. I mounted another camera in place to align my composition, then compensated for the height of the GardenWatchCam's lens.
All in all, considering the value you get for the money, weather resistant, customizable time, video output (many other time lapse cameras require software to combine the thousands of photographs into a movie), easy to use, I am very pleased with my purchase and glad this produce is available.
It simply does what you want it to do, the extras are all secondary to that main function.
hth!
』
(Software Needs Work, Manual is Vague at Best) 『I received this as a gift. The instruction manual is vague at best and confusing at worst. Yet there is no way around it.
First, you must listen to beeps which are so inaudible as to be non-existent. The beeps tell you whether it is on of off. The problem is it is the same two beeps so you never know if you turned it on or turned it off. Thus you set it out and pray it is on. The only cure is to remove the batteries between each use and then restart listening carefully for the beeps.
Second the software apparently sets the time and sequencing on the memory chip. It worked once but I have problems the second time. It is not clear if you have to set time and recording data every time, and the instructions are no help at all.
Third, I managed one set of pictures and the quality was good. To process the data you will need an upgraded version of a video system. I have not gone that far yet. What is missing is the ability to just pull out the frames one at a time. You get video and that is all. It would be nice to get frame by frame, I think I can do that with some other software I have but it will require some tricks.
This is potentially a nice product but their design factors for human interface is one of the worst I have ever seen. The instructions are incomprehensible and the interface prompts are confusing and misleading. Hopefully someone is listening at the company and fix this on the second round. It has potential if only they understood that they had a customer out there.』
(a great time lapse camera) 『I purchased this to make a time lapse movie of the construction of my house...so far it has worked quite well, the images are clear, and the programing of the custom time setting is easy. A+ rating 』
(Easy to Use) 『The Brinno GardenWatchCam has been extremely easy to set up and use. The software for customizing the frequency of images is very strait forward and easy to use as well. The date/time stamp on the video images is useful, however I did discover that apparently I should have programmed my flash drive immediately prior to setting out my camera and not a week before. The date/time stamp on my first videos were off by this amount of time. I don't know if this could have been avoided if I would have installed the batteries and flash drive right away, rather than waiting until I set out my camera. I will need to experiment with this when I get finished with my current project.』 『Sometimes nature moves slowly but you can watch things happen with this cool time lapse GardenWatchCam. It works like the film you see on weather reports, where the film shows sunrise to sunset in a matter of moments. It stores photos as JPEG images for easy playback as a movie file on a computer. It takes photos based on time settings you choose, allowing you to capture multiple images on the included 2GB flash drive. You can take pictures of an individual flower blooming, birds building a nest or a clematis climbing a trellis whatever you'd like to see. Included software lets you play back images captured from your garden, from the first sprout to a hard freeze. Lens adjusts from 20in. to infinity, so the view is yours to choose. Includes 4 AA batteries and mounting stake.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not sure when they say "mangle" by post office) 『I placed my order for this poster on Nov. 9th for a birthday gift that was needed by the end of Nov. The est. delivery date was Nov. 19th - 24th. After not receiving any emails concerning my delayed order I contacted them on Dec. 1st. I received two different emails telling me that my order was delayed due to the post office had "mangled" my poster. They told me that it wasn't my fault and they would send me out another poster. It would have been nice to be updated on my order without me having to write and ask when it was well past the est. delivery date. They were very nice after I contacted them. My poster arrived within a few days after me contacting them. I am not sure how the post office could mangle the poster the first time as it came to me packaged in a sturdy cardboard tube - in great condition.』
(Outstanding customer service, Great business ethics!) 『The poster arrived in great shape, it was prepared for shipping quite well. The size of the poster I recieved was only 12" x 16", I kept it because I had ordered it for a Christmas gift and did not have time to return it. I went on-line to leave my review and to say I was disappointed. To my surprise I recieved 3 different e-mails from Amazon&Adam Hersh Posters asking what they could do to make it right and without me asking, they reimbursed my account for half of what I had originally paid! This is a really great Barney episode. Its a high quality production and my two-year-old loves it. She especially likes Baby Bop's attention to her yellow blankie, and when she rides in on her tricycle. My two-year-old acts out each scene as she watches it. If you're only buying 2 Barney DVDs, get this one and Barney - Movin' and Groovin'.

(One of her favorites) 『My daughter loves Barney and this is one of her favorite DVDs. I personally don't care for it as much but she can't get enough of it. I wish they had done some more with letters and numbers but they have some fun shapes and color activities. The songs are catchy and my daughter always jumps along during the exercise portion and tries to sing along.』
(Barney-Lets play school dvd) 『This item was great. It came in about 2-3 weeks as it said, and was in great condition when it arrived. I highly recommend it to other customers!』
(Kids love it, but I hate it) 『My kids love their Barney DVDs and want to see them almost every night. So I guess Barney would receive five stars from his audience. Maybe you understand that I started to hate Barney and the songs because after listening to it for the tenth time I can't get the songs out of my head anymore ;-)』
(Educational and entertaining) 『My 3 year old loves this video... he goes to a little school himself, so he loves looking at what Baby Bop, the teacher, has in store for the kids in the class. He really enjoys the songs and activities they do!』 『Like perky Kathie Lee Gifford, Barney, the ubiquitousmagicalpurple dinosaur, can elicit violent hatred and fierce loyalty. You're likely to get the latter from the average toddler, weaned on the inexplicably popular (to some) PBS series. Parents may want to first teach their children the original classic songs before they're invariably introduced to Barney and his lyric-altering renditions. (By now countless children think "This Old Man" is the "Barney I Love You" song.) This 50-minute video, never seen on television, focuses on Baby Bop (Barney's yellow baby dino friend), envious and curious about school. Barney and friends Ashley, Hannah, Robert, and Jeff offer to play school, with Baby Bop as teacher. Their songs include the Barney versions of "The Alphabet Song," "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe," "The Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Where Is Thumbkin?", and more.Let's Play School!offers a gentle introduction to toddlers curious about preschool and may waylay any apprehensions. With its emphasis on how school is both fun and educational it also entices its youngest audience by showing that Ashley, Hannah, Robert, and Jeff (who are about 8 or 9) represent those awe-inspiringolderkids. They like school. Therefore, it can't be that bad. And neither is this video's ultimate message.--N.F. (Good starter video for learning baby sign language) 『This was our first experience with baby sign language, and it's fine, but it's not terribly thorough. If you are wanting a more inclusive repertoire of signs then this is not the right choice for you.』
(Very Happy) 『I'm very happy I bought this product. My nephew have been watching it every couple days, sometimes more than once a day and he's picking up signs rather quickly. It's great to hear him say and sign 'Go!' and then take off running.』
(We Love It) 『My son loves this video, and he immediately started to mimic the signs. There is a good assortment of basic signs used in the video. Overall it is a wonderful video, but I wish that they had included some other basic signs that we have been working on with him.』
(Excellent starting point for signing) 『First, this dvd is a great tool for parents wanting to sign with their children. The words taught are words that you would use every day (sleep, mom, dad, eat, water). Different children and adults perform each sign and there are different pictures showing the word.
As for the reviews that said this will hurt your child's language development - studies have actually shown that signing will help your child with their language development. If you are teaching your child to sign, you are saying the word as you sign it. When your child is able to start speaking, many of the words they first say are words they have signed. Children that learned to sign as infants/toddlers have larger vocabularies and better comprehension as they get older. If you are not constantly talking to your child, that is when their language development will be delayed. As you watch any dvd with your child, you should be talking with them about the dvd. Dvd's are not babysitters. When my daughter and I watch this particular dvd, I am signing with it, and working on her hands to make the correct shape, talking about the word, the sounds in the word, and the pictures on the screen. As I spend the day with my daughter, I sign while I speak and show her the signs to words I want her to grasp (eat, milk). She is starting to sign because of the interaction her father and I do and she is only 8 months old.』 『A playful introduction to words and sign language -- my street to main street! -- Exposes babies to words and sign language -- Presents a fun way for parents and little ones to "go exploring"

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Daughter loves this movie!) 『She remembered watching it as a little girl and asked for a copy for her 13th birthday. She wanted the older original version, so this product was perfect. Great price, fast shipping she was very happy!』
(love it!) 『Our family loves this movie. Even though the "baby" of our family is turning ten, all of us still watch the movie together. Anybody with small children between the ages of 3 and 8 should get this one. My daughter and son watched this one almost daily for months on end. My daughter made drawings of the cat bus with all of us inside. It is one of the few movies I can sit down with them and watch and not be annoyed (I have a hard time sitting through many so-called children's movies because something or other will irritate me- like the sterotypes used, rudeness factor, too adult preoccupations with what villians should look like and behave.) The other movies we love are Spirited Away and Kiki's Devilery Service. Let you children watch this before they get too used to the hyper-active, sub-standard and crude fare they will be watching later one. This film lets them be little children rather than brainwashed consumers of animated "comercials" and kiddie sitcoms.』
(Totoro DVD) 『My six-year old twin granddaughters love this DVD so much they wanted a second copy at our house. As could find only 18 left at Amazon as DVD is now out of print and unavailable elsewhere, purchased a collector's edition.』
(item never received) 『My review about this product is that i never received the dvd. I can say I was very excited about getting this movie for my daughter, but it never came. I sent 2 emails to Supermart/Monstermart. No replies. No resolution. I know this is a very cute movie because i loved it when i first saw it years ago.』
(Totoro is an amazing, fun-filled classic!) 『I've loved this movie ever since I was a little girl. It's an amazing tale that is comprised of love, adventure, and the fantasy world. Amazing movie! I was so happy when I bought it. =] Definitely worth seeing/buying!!!!!』 『My Neighbor Totorois that rare delight, a family film that appeals to children and adults alike. While their mother is in the hospital, 10-year-old Satsuki and 4-year-old Mei move into an old-fashioned house in the country with their professor father. At the foot of an enormous camphor tree, Mei discovers the nest of King Totoro, a giant forest spirit who resembles an enormous bunny rabbit. Mei and Satsuki learn that Totoro makes the trees grow, and when he flies over the countryside or roars in his thunderous voice, the winds blow. Totoro becomes the protector of the two sisters, watching over them when they wait for their father, and carrying them over the forests on an enchanted journey. When the children worry about their mother, Totoro sends them to visit her via a Catbus, a magical, multilegged creature with a grin the Cheshire Cat might envy.
Unlike many cartoon children, Satsuki and Mei are neither smart-alecky nor cloyingly saccharine. They are credible kids: bright, energetic, silly, helpful, and occasionally impatient. Filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki makes the viewer believe the two sisters love each other in a way no American feature has ever achieved. My Neighbor Totorois enormously popular in Japan, and some of the character merchandise has begun to appear in America. The film has also inspired a Japanese environmental group to buy a Totoro Forest preserve in the Saitama Prefecture, where Miyazaki's film is set.--Charles Solomon』

(Lion King II) 『The movie is good, however I made a huge mistake and ordered the VHS instead of DVD. I was terribly disappointed, guess I thought that folks didnt't sell new VHS tapes anymore.』
(Not perfect, but still an excellent direct-to-video sequel!) 『Simba is now king of the Pridelands, and his little daughter Kiara is the light of his life. But Kiara craves freedom and to be seen as more than just a princess. Her independent spirit leads her to meet a male cub named Kovu, one of a group of banished lions that view the deceased villain Scar as a great martyr. Kovu is, in fact, the chosen one to the Outlanders, handpicked by Scar to be his successor. With all this known to Simba, he is intent on keeping the cubs apart, and as time passes, Kiara grows into a beautiful and strong lioness ready to prove herself, while Kovu grows into a powerful and dangerously brainwashed young lion taught by his mother, Zira, to hate Simba and his pride. Kovu has feelings of doubt though, and an inner wish to live a life without hatred. When he is reunited with grown-up Kiara, their blooming romance washes away his learned hatred and upsets Zira's plot to destroy Simba, only making things worse for the young lovers who just want the pride's dark past to be forgotten.
So, that's the story of "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride", and while I never intended to be the Disney direct-to-video defender guy, I do seem to play devil's advocate from time to time. It doesn't earn me much respect among my fellow artists or Disney fanatics, but, oh well. The fact is, some of Disney's direct-to-video releases were real gems. Yeah, some were awful, a lot were just okay, but a few were really great. The Lion King 2 was the first of the really great ones. Not the best of them, but a very good direct-to-video release. I mean, when you consider that it could have worked as a big screen release, and in some places it DID get such a release, that's pretty good for something of the direct-to-video line.
The story is basically Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. That's appropriate, since the original Lion King was basically Shakespeare's Hamlet. Of course, doing something as serious and dramatic as Hamlet and following it with the slightly cheesy and overdone these days Romeo and Juliet, well, you're naturally going to have a picture that is less epic. The animation quality is nearly as good most of the time (not all the time, but most), but something else that hurts the film in comparison to the first is that less attention is given to the pure beauty of the music and visuals. One could easily fault most direct-to-video sequels for catering to a younger set by being more vocal and colorful, with more characters bouncing around all over the screen all the time and breaking into songs that stink compared to those in the original films, almost never having pure and quiet moments of emotion and beauty. "Lion King 2" is better than most direct-to-video sequels in that respect, but there is still a touch of the problem and it is what really makes the film look and feel different than the original, but not troublingly different. In general, it's still very good and works very well as a sequel, unlike some others that have had bad continuity or are just ridiculous. Some folks might make issue of the cub at the end of the original film looking like a male (and having a life of his own in a series of popular books released before this sequel), but most viewers will not even notice this.
Elton John is missed from this sequel's soundtrack, but in general "The Lion King 2" has fantastic songs for a direct to video release, even making use of some of Lebo M's work from the first film's follow-up soundtrack, "Rythym of the Pride Lands". I only take issue with two songs from the film that give it that weak direct-to video quality: "My Lullaby" and "One of Us". My Lullaby is an okay scene, I just often find villain songs for direct-to-video releases to be rather clunky, and this one is no exception. As usual though, the voice performer (in this case, Disney alumnus Suzanne Pleshette), gives it their all nevertheless. More troublesome for me is "One of Us", which is an okay enough song but starts out terribly to me and I really don't care for how the animals, zebras, giraffes, etc..., are the singers... It just comes off silly and very direct to video. That is the one scene in this film that is very direct-to-video to me. The rest, even "My Lullaby" for the most part, is scores above what I ever would have hoped for from the medium at the time and still holds up very well. Oh, and before I forget, one of the great original songs in "Lion King 2" is called "Upendi" and sung by Rafiki. Here's a fun game for immature adults watching the film. Sing along during this scene, but instead of "Upendi", replace that word with "your panties". I know, sounds dumb, but it is hilarious how well it fits if you have a twisted mind.
Where was I? Ah, yes, back to the film, one of its strongest points, though a less unusual one, is that much of the voice cast of the original film returns. Zazu, whose role is small, is adequately replaced and some characters do not appear (like Sarabi). Of course, Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella return as Timon and Pubaa, and it's great to hear the original voices of Simba and Nala return, Matthew Broderick and Moira Kelly, no to mention Robert Guillaume as Rafiki. The new characters, which are also pretty good, boast a great voice cast as well, like Neve Campbell as Kiara, Jason Marsden as Kovu, Suzanne Pleshette as Zira, Andy Dick as his sniveling, jealous big brother Nuka, Jennifer Lien as sister Vitani and Lacey Chabert as the young Vitani, among others.
Though it's not the dramatic, epic masterpiece the original "Lion King" was, "Lion King 2: Simba's Pride" delivers its share of drama, romance, comedy, fun, and adventure as well, and within the realm of direct-to-video, it's a worthy and appreciated follow-up to the beloved classic. The story is solid and consistently entertaining. The characters are excellent and the music for the most part is too. The visuals may be a notch below the original, but not by much. Some folks simply will not accept a direct-to-video sequel to an animated classic, but this is one of those cases where they'd be missing out. I highly recommend "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride", and for those who enjoy it, I also recommend "The Lion King 1 1/2", "Mulan 2", "Lilo and Stitch 2", Tarzan 2", "Bambi 2", "101 Dalmatians 2", and "An Extremely Goofy Movie", which are among the best of Disney's direct-to-video sequel offerings, though a few other titles are just as good, like "Mickey, Donald, and Goofy, the Three Musketeers", "Mickey's Once Upon a Christmas" and "Mickey's Twice Upon a Christmas".
As for the DVD itself, 1998's "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride was rereleased in 2004 in a 2-disc Special Edition with a book-style slip-cover. The anamorphic widescreen transfer looks and sounds fantastic. Disc one doesn't have much for extras. There's a pop-up "Matter of Facts" version of the film you can watch if you want a lot of animal facts and things like that to pop-up as you view the film (you may want to change the audio during this, or else suffer through annoying sound effects whenever a pop-up appears), and there's direct access to the songs in a sort of sing-along-song form. Disc 2 is where the worthy bonus features are, though there aren't a lot of them there either. The best one is undoubtedly the short, "One of Us", originally intended for the canceled "Fantasia 2006". It takes another Lebo M song from the "Rythym of the Pride Lands" album (a great album that I need to upgrade from cassette to CD myself...) and sets it to traditional animation about a group of African children inspired to share a day of kite flying. As always, it's great to see new traditional animation from Disney, and this short is carefree and lovely to watch, reminiscent in a way to oldschool Disney stuff like "All the Cats Join In". The other great Bonus Feature is the very brief behind-the-scenes look at the film, "Proud of Simba's Pride". Short, but the kind of thing Disney DVD collectors wish they would get more of (in a longer presentation of course). A music video for the end credits song, "Love Will Find a Way" (performed by Heather Headley and Kenny Lattimore), is also included on disc 2, as it should be. Let's face it, music videos, theatrical trailers, and at least one behind the scenes look should be standard on all DVDs. Sadly, the trailer for Lion King 2 is one thing from the previous DVD that was not ported over to this newer release.
Besides those excellent but few bonus features, we also get another Virtual Safari (though I found the ones on Lion King and Lion King 1 1/2 to be better), a coconut shell game, and a game on shapes and counting. Frankly, the only games I like on DVDs are trivia games with video prizes at the end, like on some of the old Disney Gold Collection releases. Two other bonus features remain to be mentioned: Lots About Lions, an informative bit about the big cats narrated by Timon and Pumbaa, and "Find Out Why", a collection of 5 very short shorts in which Timon and Pubaa educate us on behalf of the National Science Foundation. I actually am very glad for the inclusion of the "Find Out Why" shorts. They were entertaining and I'd never seen them before. I find myself wondering what they were created for. Perhaps they aired on Toon Disney, a network I never received, though I could see them being quite at home somewhere in EPCOT Center on a video screen.
Overall, it seems this 2-disc edition of Lion King 2 should have had a lot more to warrant the second disc, but it is still a must-own for the great feature and the only DVD release of the short "One by One". If you don't have this film yet, get it, and if you only have the original release, upgrade. The film looks better than ever and some of the very few extras are gems. "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride": If only Disney had made sure all their direct-to-video sequels were on this level, even a few they decided to release to theaters.
』
(The Lion King II - Simba's Pride) 『This is a Disney Film. What's not to like. Excellent for young children. We purchased a copy before Disney "puts it away for several years." My 16 year old and her friends will watch The Lion King ! and II even at their age.』
(big hit) 『my son loves lion king and needless to say he is thrilled to have it』 『Another made-for-video sequel to a Disney masterpiece. As with theBeauty and the BeastandPocahontassequels, most of the recognizable vocal talents return, creating a worthwhile successor to the highest-grossing animated film ever. We pick up the story as the lion king, Simba (voiced by Matthew Broderick), and Nala (Moira Kelly) have a new baby cub, a girl named Kiara (Neve Campbell). Like her father before, she seeks adventure and ends up outside the Pridelands, where lions loyal to the evil Scar (who died in the original) have lived with revenge in their hearts. The leader, Zira (a spunky turn from Suzanne Pleshette), schemes to use her son Kovu (Jason Marsden) to destroy Simba. As luck with have it, Kiara has bumped into Kovu and fallen in love.
This all sounds familiar since all of Disney's straight-to-video sequels have played it very safe, nearly repeating the originals' story, tone, and pace. Perhaps there were too many cooks for this production. Besides the two screenplay credits, there are eight other writers credited for additional written material. The look of the film has none of the surprise of the original but is far superior to other animated videos. In fact, the film played in European theaters.
For kids, the sequel will be a favorite. The comic antics of Timon (Nathan Lane) and Pumba (Ernie Sabella) are enjoyable, as is Andy Dick as Nuka, the mixed-up older son of Zira. And there's plenty of action. The best element is the music. Relying on more African-influenced music, the five songs featured are far superior to those in Disney's other sequels. Zira's song of revenge, "My Lullaby," was cowritten byBuffy the Vampire Slayercreator Joss Whedon. (A childhood favorite.) 『This has been a favorite since I was a little girl. Watching it again as an adult I was not disappointed. It has a very charming story with lovable characters and great songs. You can't go wrong. I only wish it had the original art work.』
(Great movie about immigration) 『I just love this movie. It was one of the very first movies I saw when I moved to the U.S. in 1991. I still watch it and cry and laugh. It reminds me of the ideals that my family as immigrants had about coming to live in the U.S. Its a favorite of my mother for whom I bought it for Christmas.』 『Don Bluth'sAn American Tailis based on the story of a young Russian mouse who is separated from his family in America and who later heads with his reunited kin out to the American West. It's pleasant, though not spectacular, and has its greatest problems in story development. Steven Spielberg produced with an eye toward creating animation hits outside of Disney, and he and Bluth certainly took a big step in that direction here. Kids like it a lot, and adults will warm to the sound of various familiar voices, such as Dom DeLuise as Tiger and Madeline Kahn as Gussie Mausheimer. It's also the source of the pop single "Somewhere Out There."--Tom Keogh』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (advertised as new....scratched up when opened) 『We paid for a new video. While it was wrapped up in plastic, it did not have a seal sticker like most new videos. Both CD's were scratched and the second one won't even play. I will never buy used from Amazon again.』
(Great movie! (Seller review won't be so great.)) 『I wish that the many people who rated the actual movie low because of their rotten sellers would have given the actual seller the negative rating/feedback and/or name the seller here (that may have helped me and others who just purchased this dvd and those who are about to purchase it).
My seller was Gabriel B and I bought the dvd listed as "New and factory sealed". No way. Someone sealed it, but it was not the factory and the dvd was not new. It works, my children love the movie itself, but the quality of it is not good. (That could be partially attributed to the fact that it may have not been digitally remastered by Disney?) I'm just glad that I didn't pay an outrageous price for it--I paid what the dvd is currently going for as Used/Like New, so I'm satisfied, but won't purchase from the seller again.』
(Wonderful movie!) 『My granddaughter absolutely loves this movie! Came in a timely fashion&was packaged very well. Thank you!』
(Poor Product) 『I sent an email directly to the distributor to address the poor condition of the "NEW" DVD I ordered and obviously the supplier does not care about reorders or customer satisfaction. This has turned me off to any and ALL further purchases from Amazon sites. Second bad product. Fool me once shame on you..fool me twice shame on me』
(3 weeks later) 『I received an email from the supplier 4 days after the purchase apologizing for not having this product in their distribution center. It's now been several weeks and I still don't have my DVD. I've never had a shipping issue with any other seller on Amazon - I would clearly not choose to purchase anything from this vender again.』 『Not an ideal choice for younger kids, this hip and violent animated feature from Disney was nevertheless a huge smash in theaters and on video, and it continues to enjoy life in an acclaimed Broadway production. The story finds a lion cub, son of a king, sent into exile after his father is sabotaged by a rivalrous uncle. The little hero finds his way into the "circle of life" with some new friends and eventually comes back to reclaim his proper place. Characters are very strong, vocal performances by the likes of Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Whoopi Goldberg are terrific, the jokes are aimed as much (if not more) at adults than kids, the animation is sometimes breathtaking, and the music is more palatable than in many Disney features. But be cautious: this is too intense for theRugratcrowd.--Tom Keogh
How good-looking is the DVD restoration of Disney's popular animated film? Take a look at the serviceable but dull film clips incorporated in the plethora of extras and compare them to the vivid gorgeousness of the film presentation. This "special edition" also adds a 90-second song ("Morning Report") that originated in the lavish stage musical. To Disney's credit, the original theatrical version is also included, both restored and featuring two 5.1 soundtracks: Dolby Digital and a new Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix, which does sound brighter. As with the Disney Platinum line, everything is thrown into the discs, except an outsider's voice (the rah-rahs of Disney grow tiresome at times). The excellent commentary from the directors and producer, originally on the laser disc, is hidden under the audio set-up menu.
The second disc is organized by 20-minute-ish "journeys" tackling the elements of story, music, et cetera, including good background on the awkward Shakespearean origins at Disney where it was referred as "Bamlet." The most interesting journey follows the landmark stage production, and the kids should be transfixed by shots of the real African wildlife in the animal journey. Three deleted segments are real curios, including an opening lyric for "Hakuna Matata." Most set-top DVD games are usually pretty thin (DVD-ROM is where it's at), but the Safari game is an exception--the kids should love the roaring animals (in 5.1 Surround, no less). One serious demerit goes to the needless and complicated second navigation system that is listed by continent, but just shows the same features reordered.--Doug Thomas』
『Anybody who struts around with Simba's hard-won authority deserves this royal DVD read-along from Disney. Kids can recoil at Uncle Scar's dastardly deedsen españoland discover that "hakuna matata" sounds pretty much the same in Spanish, French, Italian, or German. And should the dynamic storytelling fail to thrill your 4- to 12-year-old fan, a flurry of other interactive options await. Toggle to "Songs" for sing-along renditions of movie hits, including "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," and on to "Music Videos," where Elton John roars soundtrack favorites "Circle of Life" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" and Jimmy Cliff and Lebo M groove to "Hakuna Matata." The "Vocabulary" feature allows for see-and-say mastery of a list of wildlife, while the "Game" section allows players to match paw and hoof prints to the proper beast and reassemble the scattered skeletal remains of an elephant. Original cast voices are featured, and grownups will be pleased by the package's reading component.--Tammy La Gorce』 『Disney's THE LION KING SPECIAL EDITION features an all-new song, "Morning Report," and never-before-seen animation, giving you even more of this award-winning masterpiece -- the greatest animated adventure of all time. An unforgettable story, breathtaking animation, beloved characters, and Academy Award(R)-winning music (Best Original Score, 1994; Best Song, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight") set the stage for the adventures of Simba, the feisty lion cub who "just can't wait to be king." But his envious Uncle Scar has plans for his own ascent to the throne, and he forces Simba's exile from the kingdom. Alone and adrift, Simba soon joins the escapades of a hilarious meerkat named Timon and his warmhearted warthog pal, Pumbaa. Adopting their carefree lifestyle of "Hakuna Matata," Simba ignores his real responsibilities until he realizes his destiny and returns to the Pride Lands to claim his place in the "Circle of Life." Now extensively restored and remastered -- experience THE LION KING like never before, from its magnificent musical opening over breathtaking African vistas to its emotional climax. The all-star vocal talents -- including Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, Nathan Lane, and Ernie Sabella -- rip-roaring comedy, and uplifting messages of courage, loyalty, and hope make this timeless tale entertainment for all ages.』

(dragonlady) 『It was a bit more teary than I prefer (hence lacking one star) but still very enjoyable. A good series! Hopefully it won't follow the usual hollywood tract and forget that it's a comedy, becoming too serious and lecturing.』
(Desperate Housewives) 『I found that this season was not as enticing as the first four seasons, but with the slow build up in the begginning by the end of the season it turned out to be pretty decent. If you have the other seasons, then I would reccommend buying this one as well because it shows the growth of the characters and the difference with age with the ladies on Wysteria Lane. Wonder what they are going to do for the eye catcher in season 6?』
(Nyla) 『I love DH and being able to have it on dvd is an added bonus.』
(The Best-Kept Secret on Wisteria Lane) 『The best-kept secret on Wisteria Lane is that Season 5 is the best of the entire "Desperate Housewives" series. Like everyone else, I couldn't get enough of those early seasons. Even the pretty crummy Season 2 was on my must-watch list. By the time Season 5 rolled around, and in spite of the fact that I owned the box sets of Seasons 1-4, I'd lost interest in the show. I didn't catch a single episode of Season 5 as it was broadcast, and didn't intend on buying the Season 5 box set, especially given the steep price. And then one night, I happened to catch a rerun of an old "Housewives," and--I guess I was feeling nostalgic--I bought the Season 5 box on a whim, using 1-Click ordering. I bet if I hadn't used 1-click, I would have never gone through with the purchase. And I would have missed out on what was for me the most enjoyable of any of the "Desperate Housewives" seasons. The central characters have never been sharper. Or funnier. Or more touching. The guest appearances by Lily Tomlin and Beau Bridges are absolutely fantastic. And the stories surprised me at every turn, just the way I expect this series to do. I'm sure some will disagree with me here, but I have to say, I loved every minute of all seven disks in this box. This show may be past its heyday in the eyes of the general public, but for those in the know, Season 5 is a secret worth passing on. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not as bad as expected, but...) 『one reviewer already nailed it, but i'll repeat it: the first 10 or so minutes of "The Terminator" blu-ray disc look awful; PQ identical to, if not lower than, what one would expect from an upcoverting standard-def DVD player. That said, the PQ does improve as the movie goes on, but generally any scene shot in darkness looks horrid.』
(Awesome film, lousy blu-ray) 『I should have known that when a blu-ray disc was selling for under $10 that something was wrong. Sure enough, the picture quality is pretty much the same as a regular DVD. The fact that it's selling for such a low price probably means that somebody is wising up and will soon issue a better quality blu-ray version. My advice is to pass up on this offer and instead wait for the definitive treatment.』
(Terminator: Modernized vs. Nostalgic) 『THE MOVIE: 5/5 Terminator (or The Terminator, if you prefer) is and always will be an excellent movie. It expertly combines the two genres of science fiction and action. This movie was in my opinion James Cameron's break-through movie. After this, he made classic movies such as Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2, and of course, Titanic. Terminator truly is a modern classic. It's one of those relatively low budget movies that made it big. You don't need to take my word of it: other reviewers have given it 5 out of 5 stars.
THE DVD RELEASE VS THE BLU-RAY RELEASE The first DVD release of Terminator was released in the late 1990s. Even though it was widescreen, unfortunately it was non-anamorphic, which can look terrible on a modern widescreen TV (as it only fills the center of the screen and leaves 4 black bars). The audio was the original mono soundtrack, with all its nostalgic 1980s sounding music and dialogue that sounds... somewhat low quality (which was commonplace for a sci-fi B-movie) It's definitely a nostalgic experience in sound.
Recently, I acquired the Blu-Ray of the Terminator. The picture quality was amazing compared to the first DVD. It was anamorphic widescreen and looks nice on a widescreen TV; however, it still isn't quite up to normal HD standards since it was shot on low-quality film. Still, it was a great video improvement. When I first watched it, the audio bugged me, and I didn't quite know why. It turned out that the Blu-Ray had used the 5.1 remix of the sound. It added new sound effects and made the dialogue soundnormal. The audio sounded modern, completely different from the nostalgic B-movie sound. Now, call me funny, but I didn't like it. I missed the old, mono quality audio with the cheesy 1980s sound effects that had been replaced with regular, sounding audio and improved sound effects. In my opinion, it took away the warm B-movie feeling that the first DVD had. To top it all off, I found that the Blu-Ray didn't include the original mono soundtrack.
The average viewer might like the Blu-Ray as it looks modern and sounds technically better. Others, like me, might love that warm, 1980s nostalgic experience of the DVD. The choice is yours.』
(Blu ray version needs to be remastered) 『This is a great movie, however blu ray shows a lower then expected resolution and it feels - especially in the opening scene like the studio did not try and remaster the negatives so you see all these old artifacts showing up on the film. Until its remastered for blu ray and cleaned up so its presentable in this format just stick with the DVD version.』
(The movie that started it all) 『Terminator is one of the greatest movies ever made and is among the top favorites for almost anyone I know. This is the film that really made James Cameron and Arnold, stars in their field. An excellent story, with perfect theme music, made this an instant classic, one you can watch over and over again. A thrilling, sci-fi, action horror classic, with a bit of a love story mixed in. The only negative critique I've ever had about the film is the scene where Arnold removes the eye, and his face clearly looks like a mask. The deleted scenes on the disk are fun to watch but they are not re-edited into the film as they did in Aliens. I wish they had done that or given you the option too, because I really enjoyed it that way. Most of the scenes were taken out for timing or pacing and otherwise could have been left in. I particularly thought the Cyberdyne ending could have been left in. I find it really enjoyable to watch deleted scenes on older favorites like this.』 『Bluray Disc』 『This is the film that cemented Schwarzenegger's spot in the action-brawn firmament, and it was well deserved. He's chilling as the futuristic cyborg who kills without fear, without love, without mercy. James Cameron's story and direction are pared to the bone and all the more creepy. But don't overlook the contributions of Linda Hamilton, who more than holds her own as the Terminator's would-be victim, Sarah Connor--thus creating, along with Sigourney Weaver inAlien, a new generation of rugged, clear-thinking female action stars. It's surprising how well this film holds up, and how its minimalist, malevolent violence is actually way scarier than that of its far more expensive, more effects-laden sequel.--Anne Hurley』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Time Saver) 『This a great workout if you have limited time. It is fun, easy to learn, and you can get your exercise in for a time investment of only 1/2 hour!』
(A few problems...) 『This is a typical Richard Simmons exercise routine but this tape has a couple of problems. The camera work is done so that sometimes you can't see the next step or move needed until Richard and crew are well into it. This is because the camera is aimed elsewhere. Also where other Simmons tapes have small breaks between songs, this is edited so that when one is finished you immediately go into the next.
It does provide a nice 30 minutes exercise session but you have to be on your toes to follow it all.』
(I was disappointed) 『I have many of the Sweating tapes and looked forward to another exciting one. This was only a half hour long and had only two familiar songs. I am used to seeing all song titles on the jacket which helps me decide. On the positive side, the exercise routines were good. My issue is the songs keep me going and there was nothing on this tape to keep my interest』
(Short blast-off) 『Being a Richard Simmons fan for the past 20 years, I was a little surprised that this video was only 30 minutes. The workout did nothing for my upper body and there were a lot of steps that will take time to learn. The routine is familiar, so if you are new to Richard, you will have some problems keeping up. Of all of my videos, this is my least favorite. STILL, Richard makes you smile and the exercise is painless and entertaining. His first are the best, though!』
(Hard to follow, but fun when you get it!) 『As in his other videos, he hardly cues any of the moves, so you'd have to decide if you're ok with just following along a few times before picking up all the moves. This video is more vigorous then some of his others, I definitly worked up a sweat! I thought it was alot of fun, there were times when I couldn't stop smiling and actually LOL when we do the"fast runs"in Maniac and when we"honk"in Freeway of Love. USB port driven easy install. It does not work well at all on my Dimension. Crashes every time I try to format, or even put disk in. I even went out and bought SONY DVD+R disks. Sent Sony E-mail, they said to make sure my BIOS was up to date and my XP was also. I did. Still crashes after updating. Also was informed that no other USB port could be occupied. WHAT. I saw the /R version [DRXS70U/R] (selling here at Amazon for far more than this model) at my local electronics discounter -- and from comparing what the box for that model says, the only difference from this version is that the /R version has the Nero v8 essentials software. I promise you that with these disks you will have no more "error" messages, skipping movies, or irate friends calling you saying "Your movie didn't work!!!" These are the *MOST COMPATIBLE* DVD's I have found for stand-alone players.
Personally, I find them a tad expensive and slow for use as data disks. If you are looking to use them as data storage media, you are better off with the cheaper and faster(16x) types out there since compatibility isn't a problem.
But if you are looking for DVD's that are most compatible with any regular DVD player, these are it.』

I've used about half a spindle and haven't encountered any problems (such as read/write errors or playback "glitches") yet. If the rest of them are as good the ones I've already used, I'll be ordering another spindle. There is one thing about the spindle's packaging that's a bit puzzling to me: Before you open the package, it looks like a 50-disc spindle, but when you lift up the cover you'll see that there are foam spacers from the bottom of the spindle halfway up, and the 25 discs are sitting on top of those spacers. It looks like an obvious attempt at deceptive packaging, though there may be some technical reason for it. But there are, as advertised, 25 high-quality DVDs on the spindle, so I got what I paid for.』

If he were rating it, I have no doubt he would give it five stars or more. I gave it four stars due to the fact that it is a little bit bigger than hotwheels and matchbox cars, so occasionally it gets stuck in the Little Tykes train and track table, which frustrates my son.
Additionally, he slides this car across the floor to hit it into things. He doesn't throw the car, but after only a couple times, the car looked like it needs a new paint job. Although he does this to all his cars, this is the only one that has had the paint chip off like that. So I can't help but wonder if they used a lesser quality paint on this one.
But all in all, he does love this car, and I would buy it again.
』
(Nice metal car, but...) 『Good quality car with nice shiny paint job. Unfortunately it looks more like a collectors item than a childs toy. The paint can scratch easily and it's about twice the size of a normal matchbox/hotwheels car. This car can not be used with hotwheels/matchbox playsets due to it's larger size from what I've seen so far.』 『Pixar Cars Supercharged: Cruisin' McQueen』

Dull stories sprinkled with startling "revelations" including how Louis Malle cut a cake in random shapes that left Mr. Meyer stunned with admiration. Republicans are evil, Bush is a war criminal with a list of "crimes" of incomparable length, yawn yawn yawn.』
(Woulda, shoulda, coulda...) 『After reading "The View From the Bridge: Memories of Star Trek and a Life in Hollywood," I couldn't help but come away with the impression that Nicholas Meyer is the Godfather of internet critics and fanboys. Why? Like them, he's excellent at perfecting other peoples' ideas (Sherlock Holmes, Star Trek, etc.) and his life seems to be made up of nothing but other peoples' quotes on life and "If only he/she/they'd listened to me..." stories. When Meyer does actually discuss the craft of filmmaking and Star Trek specifically, the book is a great read. But, mingled in with the stories you're looking for are rants about studio meddling, altering of "his" stories/screenplays and what kind of unforgivable sin that is, why it seems like everyone who comes into contact with him almost always ends up not speaking to him anymore (or at least having a great argument with him) and other one-sided narrative. In viewing his credits as a whole, you really feel that Meyer's running off the street cred for 1 good and 1 decent Trek film. Everything else is how he "almost" hit paydirt or "should've" hit paydirt or "will eventually" hit paydirt, if only people would listen to him, all depending on how he feels he was wronged at the time. Unrelated religious and political pot-shots taken by Meyer aside, he just seems bitter throughout most of the book. If you want to learn about filmmaking, there are better and more positive books out there. If you want cautionary tales and tips on how taking someone else's initial idea, writing a screenplay based on it, not getting the writing credit you think you deserve and lamenting how YOU were cheated makes you a great and underappreciated writer, than this is the book for you.』
(A Man of Vision) 『Nicholas Meyer is often self-deprecating. He tells us that he doesn't create stories, but rather re-creates what others have originated. His novel 'The 7% Solution' isn't a creation, he says, but an extrapolation of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. In this same manner he took Gene Roddenberry's 'Star Trek' and recreated it as the movies 'Star Trek II' and 'Star Trek VI', giving them a true nautical feel and the best moments of the series. While it's true he didn't originate the characters he wrote about (and directed), his fingerprints are all over them, and the characters and stories are better for it. Arthur Conan Doyle owed Edgar Allen Poe, and Nicholas Meyer owes Doyle and Roddenberry -- they all stand on each other's shoulders. Meyer is a great story-teller, and this book is a record of his life of story-telling. It's a really good read.』
(Marvelous Book) 『 Nick Meyer is an L.A. virtuoso. He can direct movies, compose scripts, create novels, even act. It turns out that he can also write a brilliant memoir. This book is a generous, perceptive look at a Hollywood life, one involved with the making of the Star Trek movies but with much more besides. Meyer is excellent company at all times. He's modest, funny, and very much his own guy. The book's a pleasure from end to end.』
(The View From the Bridge) 『The thrill of reading Nicholas Meyer as an aspiring screenwriter and director, meeting his heroes like Laurence Olivier on the set of his movie of the 7% solution , all the while informing us of the tedious process that filmmaking is - organized chaos. Reading Meyer's candid recollections as he became a succesfull screenwriter and director, you get an insight into how Hollywood works as well as seeing a young aspring artist grow into a serious professional writer and director. Also refreshing is his irreverent point of view of Star Trek. Must be considered one of the essential books to read and enjoy about Hollywood. No holds barred here. Hard to believe the same person who had the genius to kill off Spock in Star Trek II, changed Ronald Reagen's opinion about the Salt II accords with his film The Day After. Highly recommend!

(Bittersweet Reality) 『This is a wonderful film with great acting. It truly captures the essence of grief. Each person handles their grief differently. There is no correct way to deal with it or in some cases, not deal with it.
This movie is a must for someone who has lost or who is near to losing a loved one. Sally Fields does a remarkable job of revealing the mixed emotions for a person dealing with death in a healthy manner. Her children, all of which handle the situation according to their personal quirks, issues and reality, also portray the varied methods of handling one's grief.
I highly recommend.』
(Garbage) 『Sorry, but this film was a total waste of 2 hours of my life. There wasn't one character who was remotely likeable. Every one of the kids were completely unsympathetic. Sally Field's character was o.k. until her big line that each of her kids are amazing. Huh? All of them were self absorbed boors, with the possible exception of the daughter. She was just a boor - not self obsessed. She goes ahead and brings in a rabbi to speak to her mother, even though she wasn't a religious person. This is a fairly typical response when dealing with the imminent death of a loved one. Of course, as in many Hollywood productions, the rabbi or the priest or the minister, turns out to be the biggest idiot imagineable. I guess these guys have no experience in dealing with the dying or the grieving. What a piece of garbage this film was from begining to end. I can't believe it got so many 5 star ratings!』
(Personal Input) 『This was a great movie that I related to on a personal level. My sister-In-Law had cancer and my two nieces basically lived through the same experiences and emotions as the characters of this movie.』 『When it seems inevitable that Anita (Sally Field) will succumb to cancer, her grown children return home to help prepare her funeral arrangements in the dramedy Two Weeks. But as the film's title implies, death isn't as immediate as they had expected, and the four siblings are left to confront each other, as well as the memories of their childhood, as they watch (and wait for) their mother pass away. A bittersweet comedy based more on dialogue than action,Two Weeksis a wonderful showcase for the always reliable Field. When her character is comatose during the second half of the picture, the film loses some of its impact, since Field is the strongest and most compelling cast member. But Julianne Nicholson, who plays Anita's daughter Emily, brings quiet strength to her role and outshines the male co-stars who play her brothers Keith (Ben Chaplin), Barry (Tom Cavanagh), and Matthew (Glenn Howerton). A gifted actress with an expressive face, Nicholson more than holds her own in scenes with Field and gets across the pain, sadness, and desperation of a daughter about to lose her mother. Some of the witty familial bantering between the brothers seems forced and clichéd, and the viewer is acutely aware that the actors are working hard to outdo each other. Still, Two Weeks gets across the conflicted emotions people feel when faced with the death of a loved one.--Jae-Ha Kim
Interview with Steve Stockman, director ofTwo Weeks
Tell us about your background and how it prepared you for the making of this film, how did "Two Weeks" come about?
I've been a commercial director and writer for most of my career so far. Two Weeks grew out of personal experience. It went like this: When my mother died at home in 1997, the whole family was there. The mortuary guy came to pick up her body in an unmarked white SUV. He had one of those rolling stretchers where you flip a lever and the wheels pop down. My mom lived in a suburban neighborhood. It was about 5 in the morning, the sun was just starting to brighten the sky. The guy wheels my mother's body out of the house, and loads it into the truck. I'd just had this excruciating night-long ordeal with my family and I stood there, watching from the top of the driveway as the truck pulled away. Just then, a car came up the street, dropping newspapers one at a time in the driveways of the sleeping houses. And I thought, I wake up every morning on my own street, in my own neighborhood. And somewhere, this is going on. It happens all the time. This is part of everyday life. How come we don't know what it's like? Seven years later I had just finished a script and I couldn't come up with a new idea to write. I kept looking at my list of brainstormed "high concepts," hoping to find one that grabbed me: Mafia Nanny? No. Talking Dog Detective? No. Time Traveling Archeologist? No. Hooker Brain Surgeon? Way no. I had all these notes from when my mother died -- I did a lot of writing while it was happening. I kept coming back to the notes, and remembering those moments -- a lot of them were really funny. Of course the rational, I've-been-in-the-entertainment-industry-since-I-was-18 side of me was thinking, "Great. A dying mother comedy. They'll line up for that." But I couldn't leave it alone. So I took a deep breath, and wrote it. I started the script in a writers' workshop, and I was really surprised by the reactions -- the funny parts were funny. The sad parts were sad. And better still, everybody could relate. They'd all been through it, or knew someone who had. Which was great, because I got a lot of suggestions from other people's experiences that were terrific, that I immediately "borrowed" and which I can now say were entirely my idea, every one of them. The end result isn't just a comedy (though many parts are really funny), and it's not just a tragedy. We've tried to make it about truth. About a family trying to figure things out when the one person who really holds them together can't hold on anymore.
What about the DVD: Will the final cut be the same as the theatrical, and will there be any extras that you can tell us about?
The DVD cut is the same as the theatrical. There are two very cool extras: - My favorite: Since nobody ever listens to the director's track (and it's my first movie it's not like I'm Francis Coppola) I invited Dr. Ira Byock, an end of life expert and director of palliative care at Dartmouth, to comment with me on the film. I talked about what went on with the making of the movie, and Ira gave his perspective for people who are facing, or have faced, the same situation. Having someone else with a different perspective was great, and hopefully there's a lot of information that's fun, and useful for people. BTW, After this successful experience, Ira and I are now available for to do commentary tracks for other films, weddings, and Bar Mitzvahs. - When I did Q&A's after screenings this Spring, several people said they were looking forward to discussing the movie in their book groups. So we came up with a Group Discussion Guide you can flip through on screen, that gives you questions for group discussion. We got the idea from paperbacks that do the same thing.
What do you want your audience to take away from this movie?
Our first and most important takeaway is, we hope, entertainment. We tried hard to create a film that's an emotional ride: Very real, very moving, and very, very funny. And if we succeed there, it's a home run. I'm also hoping that, as part and parcel of delivering an entertaining film, we managed to dig out some truth that will be valuable and relatable and informative, and bring people together in the way that the best movies do.
How was working with Sally Field? Was she your first choice for the role?
I had a very short list of amazing actresses I could, in my dreams, picture doing the part, and Sally was definitely one. Working with Sally was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Sally plays Anita, the mother in the film. Day one of the shoot, Ben Chaplin (her oldest son) is behind the camera, interviewing a still-healthy Anita about her life. We're shooting 13 pages of dialogue, almost all hers, that will take about 10 minutes of screen time in the finished film. That's a lot of shooting, and I budgeted two days to shoot it. But Sally wanted to do it in one. Great, I think, I can be a day ahead of schedule after the first day. They'll think I'm a genius. We're shooting in a house in Nashville, TN. The crew is a little nervous -everyone is at the beginning of a film, but this is the first day with our two biggest stars, one of whom is a living legend. So everyone's a little keyed up. Finally, we're ready, and Sally and Ben walk onto the set. Ben crams into a tight space next to the camera. He seems a bit nervous, too. Ben's British and has been a little worried about his American accent all week (turns out it's perfect, but nobody, including Ben, knows that yet). Sally sits down on the couch where she'll be interviewed, puts her script on the floor, her bag with her knitting, water bottle and cell phone next to it. She waits patiently for everyone to be ready. The assistant director calls "Action," and Ben asks her the first interview question. And there, in front of the camera, Sally Field becomes the character. You can hear jaws drop all over the set. She's perfect. Not good. Perfect. And she continues to be perfect the entire day. She doesn't miss a line in 13 pages of heavy dialogue ("Fantastically memorable writing," I try telling myself.) Every gesture, every look, is real - it's Sally, yet not Sally...like she's slipped on a coat of character and became someone else. We did three takes at the most of any of the 14 scenes...one particularly emotional scene was so perfect we only did one (it's the "I can see the end of my life" speech near the end). Sometimes I just asked for a second take because I wanted to see what else she had. Never because I didn't like the first one. There was one scene that didn't work quite right. It felt like a gratuitous joke to her, not something the character would actually do. We discussed it. OK, we argued about it. She was right, of course, but the screenwriter in me felt the piece needed some humor at that moment in the film. When she did it, she adjusted her performance to add a wistfulness, a bit of darker emotion behind the humor. So now a scene I wanted for comic relief works, but it's deeper and better than it would have been otherwise. And it still only took three takes. The most astounding thing about that first day was how high she set the bar for the rest of us. It would have been tough for anyone, cast or crew, to walk onto the set and not give their all after that.
What are your favorite movies to recommend to people? What DVDs do you have on your shelf at home?
I'm a movie omnivoreI like any genre, as long as it's a good movie. So my tastes range from the fairly obvious The Godfather I&II (and yes, I listened to the director commentary on both. Twice.) to The Hidden, a 1978 cult fave horror film. The home DVD library is aimed at teaching the kids what quality movies look like, from the Matrix and Lord of the Rings trilogy, to Jackie Chan, to Miyazaki (Spirited Away is our favorite) to Buster Keaton (go right for Sherlock Jr.), anything by Preston Sturges, Casablanca and Singing in the Rain, which we just watched AGAIN last weekend.』

Negative: - people ALWAYS screaming for help gets a little bothersome - the same 5 or so tasks are reused way too much - battles are pretty repetitive too
Spider-man had three extremely successful movies, one of which wasn't even said to be very good. Today we land in the middle of that trilogy to look at the game based on the second film. Movie cash-in games are often a pain to play as there is often little effort going into the gameplay particularly, but can Spider-man 2 stand out from the majority and actually be good?
The game's story loosely follows the movie on which it is based, which involves Spider-man trying to stop Doc Ock, a scientist whose experiment gets the best of him. But the game doesn't entirely stick to the movie's plot: it takes many sidebars and throws in a bunch of other villains to add to the story and make it pretty big. The game progresses in chapters, each of which has a pretty straightforward to-do list, which is nice for getting through the game.
But moving on with the story won't occupy nearly all your time with the game. As you move about the city, people will constantly be screaming for help, and when you first start playing you find it hard to turn anyone down, but later you get tired of it and just move on when you don't need the hero points to progress in the story. This isn't helped by the fact that the same five or so tasks are reused way too much; you'll find yourself chasing down stolen cars and saving guys about to fall from rooftops way too often. The little variation in the tasks is disappointing, but thankfully you get most necessary hero points by doing cool special events so you're not stuck helping people for long increments of time.
Unfortunately, though, the repetition doesn't stop with the overused tasks. Once you arrive at your destination and find a bunch of bad guys, there's little to do with them except mash the B button until they're all gone or get them all caught in your webs, turning them into punching bags when you will simply keep mashing the B button again. There are combos to be bought but they're extremely difficult to execute because later on you don't have a couple seconds to just stand there pushing a three-button combination because the masses of thugs will beat you up before you get that far. The fighting is more fun to watch than to play, I mean who wouldn't enjoy watching Spidey beat up a bunch of bad guys with great sound effects?
With all this repetition one would assume this is quite a boring game, but thankfully it somehow manages to be quite fun despite that. The best thing about the game is probably swinging around the city. When you're in the air, press R to make Spider-man shoot a web at the nearest building and you're off. There are a few techniques to master with this too, such as perfecting the jumps and making use of the slingshot move. This part of the game is nothing short of thrilling and extremely fun, and this is one of the main reasons it's so worthwhile.
And even though the game's tasks are repetitive, the bright side is that you never run out of things to do. Helping civilians screaming at you isn't the only thing you can do anyways: there are several challenges around the city and about 200 help markers to find, plus a ton of extremely rare secrets to pick up. And since the city is so huge, this makes for a lot of good playtime.
The game's visual style isn't bad, but there are a few flaws in it. During gameplay the graphics look nice and simple, especially on the buildings that don't have much detail on them. This may be for the better, though, because when the animators tried to add a bit of detail to peoples' faces up close, they sometimes look pretty poor. Thankfully you don't look at those for long, and the rest of the v
