Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (good 4what I was looking for--Vegan) 『Okay, so it's bigger than I knew, even though the measurments are available to the shopper ahead of time... it's pretty nice. Satin-type exterior and interior. Very spacious. A cell phone pocket inside, and another pocket, plus the usual zippered "secret" section. a mid-level amount of spacious. THE ONLY PROBLEM i have with it is that the zipper is sometimes hard to pull closed. Takes a lot of fumbling around when there are lines or I'm trying to hurry about.』
(Fantastic Coin Purse) 『It wasn't until I received this that I realized it is made out of recycled materials, which makes it just super in my opinion. It's sturdy, won't get dirty, holds all of my paraphanalia (including business cards). The colors are cute, the slogan adorable. The only drawback is the zipper is kind of hard to move back and forth, but I am sure it will get easier as I use it. My friends loved it so much I had to order them one too!』

(You need this dvd!!!) 『I love the Classic Albums series and I love the Sex Pistols so when I found out they had a dvd for their one and only album I had to get it. I had read and heard nothing but good things about this dvd so I couldn't wait to add it to my collection. When I watched it I thought it was another great documentary about the album and you also hear a little bit about their history too. Everyone in the band is interviewed (except Sid ofcourse.) Rotten is extreemly interesting and hillarious as always. When you hear him talk you'll realize just how smart of a person he really is. Steve Jones plays some guitar and shows how he came up with some of the guitar parts for certain songs. Malcom is also very interesting to hear saying he didn't want to be a manager for the band but rather a mismanager. I always thought that guy was a quack. They talk about all the biggest moments such as the Bill Grundy show, God Save The Queen on a boat, and the artwork for the album including interviews with the artist Jaimie Reed. If you're a big Sex Pitols fan or just love this album then it is very essential you pick up this dvd. This is one of my favorites in my dvd collection. There are also plenty of bonus features including a hillarious story about Johnny Rotten meeting Freddie Mercury who was with Queen recording in the studio in the same building. You can't really go wrong here and the Classic Albums series whenever they document a good album are always good. Other titles in the series I liked were The Dark Side Of The Moon, Who's Next and Machine Head.』
(A great lesson in Sex Pistology) 『This is a great DVD. Even long time Sex Pistols fans might get a new tidbit of information that they had never known. For the first time maybe in their lives, the members of the Pistols are very candid and maybe even a bit nostalgic, even though none of them are seen together and they are all interviewed seperately. Steve loves Johnny, but that doesn't mean he wants to hang out with him, Johnny is proud of all the members, and Glenn shows no hard feelings. Paul had the least amount to say, but what he said was direct and to the point. Sid Vicious gets very little time. He is seen in the live footage and Johnny talks about him in a short bonus feature. The only idiot on the entire DVD is Malcolm, but that's really no big surprise. He always has and always will be a tool.
We finally learn who played what on the album itself. Glen did play the bass guitar on Anarchy, and Steve played two seperate guitar tracks, one track serving as the bass.
They even tracked down the guy who did the artwork for the Pistols.
I think of all those in the band Steve has the most intelligent insight. He admitted that if they had kept Glen and did not do the TV show where they cursed on the air, the Pistols would have lasted longer and recorded more albums.
I came to my own conclusion that Glen was not fired for 'constantly washing his feet', but because he was the most competant musician of the group. Glen tried to teach STeve how to play what he called 'Beatle chords' and Steve refused to play them and just stuck with the major chords in bar form.
If I have anything negetive to say about the DVD, don't be taken in by the 'Play guitar in a day the Steve Jones Way'. Steve does demonstrate how to play a few riffs, and on his original Les Paul with the pinup girls. But would it have killed the camera man to have the camera straight on the guitar and not film the riffs at a 45 degree angle? I know how to play the songs anyway, I've had the original tab book for years, but the camera angle on the guitar on this sequence is terrible.
The boys are alive and well though and getting ready to do some shows soon (November 2007). On the DVD Paul actually looks pretty good and resembles any number of one hit wonder musicians from the 80's. Glen looks like a rather dapper chap and if you didn't know him, you'd think he was a sales manager and not a musician. Steve Jones looks more like a retired wrestler than a punk guitarist, and Johnny..... Well Johnny has aged some. His earlobes are dangling almost comically. As if he had been wearing 5 pound earrings for ten years, and it is obvious he has never cared about his hair, from his glory days until today. I don't know who painted the blue stripe, but Johnny is Johnny.
And saints be praised. There is not one film cell that contains any image of Nancy Spungen.』
(This is the best Sex Pistols documentary but...) 『It didn't go through the whole carrier and it mainly talked about their start and their relationships together which is great but didn't talk about the times and the chronological history of the pistols, their American tour and eventual break up.
You must to watch this along with "The Filth and the Fury" if you want to get the whole picture. One thing I really liked about this is you didn't have Johnny Lydon speaking about the history of the Sex Pistols with anger and spite of earlier interviews which distorted the truth, it was more like he was fondly reminiscing factually about being in the Sex Pistols and giving up his ego and telling of his faults.
Another great thing it was just clips of performances, photos and one on one interviews with the band, producers, techincians and record company executives, no dramatics or no other bands or fans talking about them which would muddle the documentary. It's stripped down to the important stuff.
A must see for any fan. 』
(Even better than "The Filth and the Fury", I agree!) 『I felt pleasantly surprised after watching this. I gained a new respect for the band, and seeing how they created this unique album added a new dimension to the film. I enjoyed the many special features possibly more than the documentary itself.
The band members are in great form and are as candid as you'll ever see them. Glen Matlock and Steve Jones provide many insights, and watching them perform their riffs today is a great pleasure, but it's Johnny Rotten who steals the show with his dark clarity. Amazing words!
It's a fairly low-budget effort, but it's the best Sex Pistols DVD that you can find, and an excellent documentary about the making of legendary music.』 『Studio: Red Distribution Release Date: 02/15/2005』

If you like Sid singing "My Way", then, fine, buy it for that, too. I don't care for it. The addition of Sid to the band wasn't a good thing as far as I'm concerned.
The cover of "Roadrunner" is the second best song on the album, but you are better served by getting the Modern Lovers original.』
(A bit uneven) 『The best tracks tend to be the ones where Lydon is actually singing, along with Sid's version of My Way. The stuff with some wally named Ten Pole Tudor on vocals and the tunes with Ronnie Biggs, Malcolm McClaren and Steve Jones singing lead haven't really stood the test of time well; they tend to work much better along with the visuals of the movie than just listened to as audio tracks sans film. Not really a Pistols album in many senses, as a lot of it was put together after Lydon/Rotten had already left the band.』
(A good companion to "Bollocks" or "Kiss this") 『 I read a review of this cd at this site and it said that this was an essential Sex Pistols cd. As far as I am concerned, if you want a definitive Sex Pistols cd, go for "Kiss this" [I'll put up a review of that cd soon, as soon as I confirm that the version I have is more definitive that some cds being sold here...I mean having more songs].
When I bought this cd, I listened to the start of the first track "God save the queen" and, expecting the classic Pistols song, I was really disappointed to hear something else...a spoken word 'song' by Pistols 'manager' Malcolm McLaren. Unusually, I now find myself listening to this song often, as I find it really sensual...it's basically a symphonic piece, with some 'war' sound effects, and McLaren delivering a creation myth story about how he invented the band and the genre of music they play. I'm sure that this would be news to Australian band The Saints, who were the first punk band to get a record deal anywhere in the world, or amongst the first, along with an American band...The Velvet Underground, I THINK. Apart from McLaren's self serving Genesis story, the track is a mellow pleasure to listen to. I'm sure if McLaren talked about how he created punk fashion, he would have got less kudos than for claiming to invent punk rock.
In the title to this review, I note that there is much parody in this cd. Here's the bit about double edged parody: the Pistols do covers of "Rock around the clock" and "Road runner" [at least I think the pistols do covers of both...my cd doesn't give attribution for songs on this cd, apart from writing credits-i.e. if different bands play different songs, you won't know it looking at the credits]. The parody part is due to the band not giving a stuff about learning the lyrics to the songs they cover and thus doing a bad cover. One might find this amusing, if you are into 'out takes' humour etc.
The double edged parody part is that punk itself is parodied in that Sex Pistols classic songs are covered in a high brow way...whether through classical instruments or being sung in French by a middle of the road type crooner. These are also amusing, if you are into type of thing.
"Black Arabs" is a "Stars on '45'" type song-punk songs mashed into a single song.
*** One potentially troubling aspect of this cd is that it, at least superficially, seems to have anti-Semitic or Nazi sentiments. On the sleeve of the cd too is a cartoon of Pistol Sid Vicious wearing a top with the swastika on it. The songs in question are tracks 16 to 18, inclusive [starting from the "Belsen" songs]. If these songs are ironic or something, I apologise for mentioning them, but superficially at least, they seem to have nasty Nazi sentiments. If that is true, then this bollocks shouldn't have been included, on moral grounds. It's ironic that 'anarchists' like the Pistols would have pro Nazi sentiments like the British royal family have had in the past. The Australian musical comedy trio "The Dough Anthony All-Stars" had a song called "I want to spill the bloody of a hippie" but it was understood that they were an ironic band, not to be taken seriously. I did hear though that skin-heads in the UK latched onto this band and totally missed the irony. I'm not sure how ironic the Pistols are in these songs. Anyway, I suppose my point is that I find it a moronic coupling-anarchy and fascism...perhaps demonstrating that these political philosophies are merely glibly held to by members of the band [ones not intelligent enough to realise that they are incompatible].
Anyway, other songs of interest are the catchy song "Silly thing" which is a real singalong kind of song. The sound is real polished and smooth-so, I'm not sure if it is the Pistols doing it.
"Friggin' in the riggin'" is a catchy, singalong Broadway type of song, based on a traditional verse, I think. It is bawdy though.
Lastly, Sid Vicious has some singing duties on this cd-covering Sinatra's classic "My way" and the '50's rock'n'roll song "C'mon everybody". Vicious sings the first really badly, both intentionally and unintentionally, I think [I mean, how well can he sing anyway?]. I haven't heard singing that bad since the last 5 seconds of a song in a Sinatra compilation [read my review of a Sinatra cd for further details on this]. "C'mon everybody" is Vicious at his singing best-well, better than for "My way" in any case.
Well, I'm only giving this compilation 3 stars because it lacks one of the all time great songs, The Sex Pistols version of "God save the queen". That song is a notable exclusion from this cd. But, having the Pistols' "Anarchy in the UK" is good, because that too is one of the all time great songs-with Johnny Rotten at his maniacal and playful best...all snarls and mocking attitude.

(The most complete version of the LP available on CD) 『This is the import "Remastered" CD and it sounds great. It even includes "Whatcha Gonna Do About It" which got left off some CDs (I think the US one left it off, too). But, like the original LP which had multiple vinyl versions, this one is not fully complete and it's a shame because they had so much they could have included to make it *complete* (hence, my 4 stars). This has the single version of "Anarchy..." instead of the enhanced demo version (only on the old vinyl LP). Also, some LPs and one of the singles had a fully instrumental (no voiceover) of the "God Save the Queen (Symphony)" that could have been included. Another b-side was "Pistols Propaganda" which featured the films' trailer voiceover narration. But, these are quibbles - this is a fun, ridiculous, music-hall cartoon of the Sex Pistols meant to be an iconoclastic "f-you" to the punks that took the whole thing way too seriously. Honestly, would the Clash ever have had the guts to ridicule themselves like this? No - they were too busy being earnest and 'serious.' The Pistols rule.』
(Malcolm Says) 『In the original packaging of the double-album set, a photograph of a bloodied dead doe shot through the throat with an arrow, with the question, "Who Killed Bambi?," says everything about this soundtrack to a movie of the same name. It was a bloody mess.
Marketed as a Sex Pistols album, it only features vocalist John Lydon and original bassist Glen Matlock in audio from archival footage, but has guitarist Steve Jones and "The Great Train Robber" Ronnie Biggs fronting the "new" Pistols - minus Lydon - and tracks from other artists.
I strongly feel the album was Malcolm McLaren's rib on fans who actually took the "punk revolution" seriously and his hope the brand name could survive with anyone in the studio. There is McLaren - in his best "Voice of Christmas" - bragging about creating punk rock, a disco medley of four Pistols' songs and French street musicians playing Anarchy in the UK.
The best track is a remix of My Way - performed by Sid Vicious, which initially appeared on Sid Sings - that was released as a single in the UK.
Punk rock was never owned by any person or band. But McLaren made sure that he was poised to push the movement over a cliff. Too much too soon, indeed.』 『Aussie version of the classic release at a nice price! Unavailable in the US. Features their campy version of 'My Way'. Digitally remastered.』 『Remastered featuring a Different Track Listing Than the Us Version. Bonus Tracks Include 'road Runner', 'watcha Gonna Do About It' and 'einmal War Belsen Bortrefflich'.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not relevant anymore) 『What we know about AIDS today dwarf what was known some 20 years ago. As a result, any movie (documentary or fictional) that deals with the disease quickly becomes dated (and irrelevant) as new information becomes available. "Sex Is"is no exception. Still, some of the interviewees, namely Lulu, Madame X and Bambi Lake provide enjoyable entertainment. The rest of the 'cast' are either nondescript or downright pretentious and annoying.』
(Dated and Embarrassing) 『Sex is...well, very dated, very boring and very depressing. We can all look back on how stupid our gay community has been, but the director seems to revel in the characters insipid recollections of the past. Sure, thier stories are real, but it is a tiny slice of the SF gay community, presented only for "splash and glory". Gimme a break. If you are straight, please ignore this film as you would any blatant propoganda. If you are gay, you probably already know about this celluloid travesty.』
(SEX IS ... Is Sex Positive) 『A seminal (pardon the pun) documentary that explores the many facets of sex in the lives of 15 very diverse gay men. By turns thoughtful, poignant, raunchy, and extremely funny, the film touches on such weighty subjects as coming out, first encounters, dating, love, tricking, fetishism, racism, aging, loss, disease and responsibility ... but never does it deviate from delivering a very welcome celebratory and sex-positive message. In a wickedly funny twist, director Marc Huestis (who also appears on-camera as one of the interviewees) has dedicated the film to homophobic politico Jesse Helms, whose fumbling rantings are cleverly intercut with archival porn footage depicting the very acts he is decrying. Produced with obvious care and skill, the film remains as fresh and timely today as it did when it first premiered in 1993.
The DVD from Water Bearer Films offers a sharp, clean transfer. ... a great conversation-starter that begs to be watched and discussed with people you care about.』
(BEST FILM ON THIS SUBJECT I'VE SEEN) 『Humorous, entertaining vital, important』
(Important, Funny and powerful documentary.) 『The film explores Sex and Sexuality in the Lives of 15 Gay Men. From ages 19-72, the men interviewed run the gammut from pastor to porn star to actvist to writer to slut. The film opened at the 1993 Berlin Intl film Festival where it took the audience award for BEST GAY FILM. The film has played around the world and now is on video with the DVD to come out in the Spring'99 distributed by Water Bearer Films.
Director Marc Huestis and Co-Producer Lawrence Helman have constructed a fine document of the state of affairs of gay men in the early '90's. The film interweaves graphic scenes from archival porn to illustrate some of the subjects being described. Stunning visually and it is"way fun"to boot.』

All this changes when she receives a letter from her sister's recently deceased husband which contains a treasure map, and receives a phone call from her terrified sister held hostage by the same kidnappers (introducing the hilarious Danny Devito and Zack Norman, two partners-in-crime who happen to be cousins) who insists that Joni must deliver the map to her in Colombia. Reluctantly, the borderline agoraphobic Joni agrees, because it's her sister.
After her bus, supposed to be routed to Cartagena but ends up crashing into a jeep filled with exotic birds in the middle of the mountainous nowhere, and she is ordered to give up her purse containing the map to the same man who murdered her husband, the evil Colonel/Minister of Antiquities/Deputy Commander of the Secret Police Zolo (chillingly portrayed by Manuel Ojeda) she is narrowly rescued by a soldier of fortune named Jack T. Colton (Michael Douglas). He becomes embroiled in the struggle for what is at the end of the map, the green, priceless emerald stone. They meet numerous crazy characters along the way and hijinx abounds!
Seeing this movie on blu-ray makes me remember the sheer VISUAL pleasure of its 35mm release! Its 2.35:1 Panavision anamorphic cinematography, lensed by horror maestro John Carpenter alumnus Dean Cundey, is lush. He cut his teeth in Carpenter's early films like Halloween, The Fog, The Thing and Escape from New York, with his trademark cobalt blue night lighting; here, the screen is a tapestry of jungle greenery, flickering orange firelight and lots of wild night hues, complimented with the cool blues of Manhattan at various times of day and night. After this, he would go on to photograph several of director Robert Zemeckis' other works, the Back to the Future trilogy and then Jurassic Park for director Steven Spielberg. His naturalistic lighting lends credibility and yet an elegance and glamour to all these films.
The legendary production designer Lawrence G. Paull, of Blade Runner fame, again works his magic here, making very little, the jungles of Mexico made to be Colombia, look spectacular.
Director Robert Zemeckis, whose career was effectively over after the dismally received (but quite goodj) I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Used Cars, was enlisted by producer Michael Douglas, who recognized the then 28-year-old lad's talent. Douglas, who originally didn't want to play the part of Colton, caved in when all his potential leads declined, and he realized just how rare good parts and scripts are!
Diane Thomas' first script is indeed a gem, filled with action, humor, passionate romance, and a wonderful sensitivity. We really root for our leads! This movie is an example of a cross-genre piece that Hollywood has since always strived to emulate: It has everything; action, romance, suspense, humor, even a rather hot, steamy after-sex scene between our two attractive leads! This makes this movie a favorite in my book. Our two protagonists go through amazing character arcs: The petrified novelista Joan learns how to live. The hardened jungle warrior veteran Jack learns how to love.
The visual quality of the blu-ray release is superb, especially considering that this film was previously only released to DVD in non-anamorphic letterbox. The details, immediately evident in the ruddy, sweaty complexion of Grogan, Angelina's nemesis in the fictitious novelista prologue pre-opening credit sequence, really pop! A real treat!
And, no small sidebar...eureka--the film's original English subtitles are there to explain the Spanish dialogue! The "Cartagena, Colombia" caption when Elaine is captured, as well as Zolo saying "You must be French" to Danny DeVito, who is attempting to do the most ghastly Spanish, Zolo ordering "Assemble your men" to his military commander, and, the most needed, when the bell-maker Juan explains to his henchmen that "this is Joan Wilder, the one who writes the books I read to you on Saturdays!", one of the biggest jokes in the movie. Without the subtitles, in previous versions, if you don't speak Spanish, you're lost.
If I find any faults with this blu-ray release, they apply to to the quality of the soundtrack. The film was released prior to the advent of Dolby Digital 5.1, so one can't expect the kind of in-your-face clarity and realism of today's 5.1 discreet mixes, but, while the sound mixers did a bang-up job of making center dialogue (the crispest I've ever heard it outside a cineplex) completely discreet from the side music and effects channels, the side and rear channels seem to be lacking almost all high frequencies, resulting in a dulling of composer Alan Silvestri's electrifying Latin percussion and the sound of the drizzling rain. Good news is: Bass, especially in the waterfall, is superb and robust.
(sigh) In light of such a gorgeous visual transfer, which makes me remember just what made me fall in love with this film to begin with, I'll forgive the audio faults (for now anyway, until a future version arrives) and enjoy the ride!
The extras, including interviews with our now much-aged cast (ironically, Danny Devito hasn't aged at all) and sumptuous deleted scenes, which contain much of the same dialogue as their film version counterparts, and replace Joan's female editor Gloria with a seemingly docile male editor but whom we know is attracted to Joan, which adds fuel to her fear and mistrust of men, are wonderful, and enhance my appreciation of an already-endearing film.
Put on your aligator boots and prepare for romantic adventure: This one is sure to please!』
(Enjoyably breezy) 『The Bottom Line:
Romancing the Stone is certainly no great film and it would have been much more successful if Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas had exhibited any chemistry at all, but if you want a little light-hearted action/adventure film you probably won't be too disappointed by this 1984 picture about a romance novelist and a soldier of fortune trying to find a precious stone.

(Fun) 『I'd seen this movie some time ago in the theater and I thought my wife might like it. She had never seen it before. It is as much fun as I remember. The plot is as silly as any Lucas/Speilberg movie, but it really is a take off of all those. Great acting especially by DeVito who chews all the scenery in sight.
Unbelievably evil villians, heroic heroes (of both sexes)a lush and romantic location. Who could want more?』
(Indy-lite) 『I didn't purchase this from amazon (or anywhere, in fact). I received it as a redemption prize, probably from Kellogg's. It appears to be the relatively bare-bones 1999 release.
It's not Indiana Jones but it's not bad, either. Actually it has a lot of the same people behind it as Back to the Future. A little cheezy but nothing that will turn your stomach. But nor is it as imminently re-watchable as Raiders.』
(Romancing the Stone) 『This was a great buy and the retro interviews by Michael Douglas Danny Devito and Kathleen Turner were great but a bit shocking when you see their ages and how they look now!』 『Director Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump,Contact) had a hit with this 1984 comedy that first teamed Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, and Danny DeVito. Turner steals the show from the guys, however, playing a pushy romance novelist who gets stuck among some dangerous figures in Colombia and has only a rumpled guide (Michael Douglas) as an ally. The chemistry between the stars is infectious (the trio went on to make a sequel,Jewel of the Nile, and then an interesting, dark comedy directed by DeVito,The War of the Roses). Zemeckis--whose specialty at the time was creating set pieces of raucous action (as in hisBack to the Future)--keeps things hopping with lots of kinetic material.--Tom Keogh』 『Studio: Tcfhe Release Date: 10/14/2008 Run time: 142 minutes Rating: R』

(Cards, Chips, Dips And Dorks) 『As I plan to head back into the 80's with occassional reviews that I plan on doing, I came across this 1987 film that I was never overly familiar with, but I remember seeing way back when. It was never in the group of "Ferris Bueller's Day Off", or "Sixteen Candles", "The Breakfast Club", or "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" for me, and after having now seen it for the first time since the 80's, still isn't, but that's okay. It doesn't have to be. It's a fine little film all on it's own. So, what's the plot?....
Patrick Dempsey(who is pretty much known as "McDreamy" nowadays)plays Ronald Miller, a 17 year high school kid who mows people's lawns over the summer. Ronald is not one of the cool kids. Hangs with the "loser" crowd, has glasses, unruly hair, etc. For years, he has had a crush on the most popular girl in school(of course he did)named Cindy Mancini(Amanda Peterson, and who wouldn't when your as adorable as Amanda?). When Cindy finds herself in a jam, Ronald swoops in to the rescue....but at a price. He wants Cindy to hang with him for a month and act like they are an item, in hopes of making himself more popular at school and getting to belong with the cool, popular kids. The plan goes into motion and works, but maybe it works a little too well, and Ronald will soon have to come to realize what's more important - being somebody your not to belong, or being liked and accepted for who you are.
Plot-wise, "Can't Buy Me Love" is not exactly original, but what makes it work is that it is performed sweetly, naturally, and honestly. You see what happens to Ronald and how it touches everyone around him, for better or worse. One of the best aspects is his relationship with his best friend, played by Courtney Gains, and the lows that come with it once Ronald becomes popular. Their confrontation in the video arcade is affective. Most of the cast are 80's types, but it's two main stars, Patrick Dempsey and Amanda Peterson, bring sweet life to the characters that helps make it's plot less obvious. Okay, it's obvious, but they make it likeable and watchable. Dempsey does a great job as geeky Ronald, popular Ronald, and back to geeky Ronald. We like him and feel sorry for him in the start, and then are shocked and disgusted with him and the way he acts and treats others when he becomes one of the "cool kids", and then it's back to liking him again and wanting him to have what he wants when the old geekster comes back to the forefront. Amanda Peterson is the popular girl, but she plays it with a sweetness that never makes Cindy Mancini a nasty caricature of these types of characters - Popluar captain of the cheerleading team with her own little clique. Life isn't exactly a bouquet of roses for her either. The two of them, and their characters, really make the film. Elsewhere, you will find a young Seth Green("Buffy", "Austin Powers") as Ronald's little brother, Chuckie. He's a hoot in the role. Ronald's father is played by Dennis Dugan, who went on to become a successful comedy director, having filmed a lot of of Adam Sandler's films.
What's not to like about the movie?. Not much. "Can't Buy Me Love" won't win any awards for originality, and that's probably the only big thing going against it. For most of the movie, it never delved into cheesiness, until the end. Ronald's final speech outside in the cafeteria bringing the "cool" and the "not so cool" kids together gets washed away with a little too much cheese with big, sweeping music played as it goes along, but this can be overlooked when you have such a charming little movie played very well by it's two main stars. I love the 80's. Some see the dated fashions and everything else as a detriment to these films, but that couldn't be further from the truth. It enhances the movie and helps make it what it is. It only adds to the charm.
At the end of the day, "Can't Buy Me Love" is a pleasant, harmless, little comedy, that has grown over the years into a real teen/high school classic for a lot of people. No, Ronald, you can't buy love, but you can achieve it by staying true to who you are.』 『Movie DVD』

Norma Schearer, Rosalind Russell, and a young Joan Crawford head the all-female cast in this sophisticated George Cukor classic. Sharp one-liners, campy dialogue, and witty interplay make this a comedy unlike any other of its time. Without a single four-letter word, this film manages to be intelligently bitchy and wonderfully fun.』
(The Women) 『This is a great movie. It's just another example of the original being so much more superior than the remake.』
(A movie worthy of the description "classic") 『A must-have for anyone who loves well-made movies. The dialogue is fast and funny, the acting is superb, and the story is as relevant and believable today as it was when the movie was made in 1939.
One notable part of the film is the tension between Mary (played by Norma Shearer) and Crystal (played by Joan Crawford) over Crystal's affair with Mary's husband. Off-screen Shearer and Crawford disliked each other so intensely that the movie's producer's had some difficulty keeping the film on track. I believe that conflict contributes to their believable onscreen performance.
Another fascinating aspect of the movie is the fact that while most of the conversations in the movie concern men, not a single man actually appears in the film. It's hard to imagine modern film makers, with their over-reliance on special effects, using such a clever twist.』
(Thw Women (Keepcase)) 『This is one of my alltime fave movies!! I had a copy on VHS and lost it, I was so delighted to find this on Amazon. It is a far superior to the recnt remake!』

I will not order from this company again.』 『Movie DVD』 『George Cukor, Hollywood's legendary "woman's director," had his hands full with the all-female cast of this 1939 film adaptation of the Clare Boothe play. The story finds a group of catty, competitive friends destroying reputations at social gatherings. The dialogue sparkles, Joan Crawford's performance as a husband stealer is still a classic, the film looks wonderful in Cukor's hands, and the Technicolor fashion-show scene is a one-of-a-kind Hollywood experience.--Tom Keogh』

(totally disappointing) 『stories were entirely too short, i had expected stories of people having quick encounters (that doesnt mean the story has to be short)... not just quick stories.
did not like this book at all.』
(Great concept, great book!) 『This book is an excellent collections of very short erotic stories. These stories are quick and to the point and are very well written. The great thing about it is that if you don't necessarily like the story you're reading, you can easily get through it or skip it entirely and move on to the next which you probably will like. If you like erotica, you will find plenty in this book to like. I highly suggest this book. Another book I really liked was Whatever He Wants. It's also a very steamy read.』
(THE ULTIMATE TURN ON) 『I loved it and so did my husband. Once again Alison has got together some great writers that have produced great stories. The thing that stands out is the spontaneity of the situations and having sex in unusual situations is a great turn, the possibility of geting caught out is a real thrill. This book will please all lovers of erotica. Try reading it to your lover and enjoy the results. Or if you are reading alone, well, you've got one hand free. On a similar subject, have a look at Lust: Erotic Fantasies for Women and 100 Percent Erotica Happy loving.』
(Fantastic Frenzy) 『I'm in a frenzy about Alison Tyler's collection of 60 stories of sudden sex. Really, the whole book is effing fabulous! I love the short story format and the variety - - it's a wonderful showcase for this impressive group of erotica writers.
Each story is a gem. Here are just a few of my quick takes on these quickies:
A.D.R. Forte's "Paper Clips" - I'll never look at a paper clip in the same way again.
Ariel Graham's "Hands On" - The school principal delivers some discipline - to a naughty staff member!
Sommer Marsden's "Risk" - I love this line: "It was a powerful consuming kiss that lit me up on the inside like a shower of sparks."
Donna George Storey's "Melted" - sex and chocolate, these are a few of my favorite things!
Rita Winchester's "Night Shift" - titillating text messages!
Philip Umrino's "Gray Irish Mornings" - an encounter in a hostel in Dublin is anything but hostile!
Cheyenne Blue's "White Rush" - ski-lift sex! "Seven minutes," he said. "How fast do you work?"
P.S. Haven's "Permission" - the green-eyed monster likes to watch!
Alisha Steele's "Waves" - passionate and poignant.
Rachel Kramer Bussel's "The Kiss" - technically speaking, they only get to first base on the first date....
My favorite story in the whole collection is Jeremy Edward's "You in Your Apricot Panties." An incredible rhapsody, an ode to underwear! Just so very clever and so very, very hot!
That's only one dozen of the 5 dozen stories included in this collection. You are sure to enjoy the wide range of sexy styles and steamy activities. Quality Quickies!』 『

Richelle Mead created a complex world with its worth characters. This book will make you think - it will make you contemplate about a society where one is expected to serve another with dedication and passion, a world where there are boundaries for love, a world where nothing is really normal and there isn't even an option of being normal.』
(It keeps getting better) 『Another EXCELLENT book in the series! I'm so glad that now we have grasp on what "shadowkiss" really means...
I am just going to do this as a quick rant without really giving out anything major but something that will get those who are not convinced that this should be a tbr priority.
Complications are piling up. Rose seems to be getting a lot of it. This series contains angst beyond ordinary teenager (in fiction). Mason came back, only not as what we all hoped for. The Guradian field experience is up and there was an unexpected pairing. Lissa can use her powers again only there are consequences and our bada$$ best guardian in the making plays a role that is so huge it questions the Dhampir to Moroi code of conduct or motto or whatever you wanted to call it. Victor was ushered away, for now. The Queen is a total b!tch and has a long term goal that got me mad ( I know it's only a book and I should calm down, but no. I am passionate and this is what I feel). We also still have Adrian and I think he's going to stay, I actually like his role but I am still suspicious. Christian's insecurity about that his family reputation and Adrian-Lissa training with their magic is getting the best out of him. The moment that I was waiting for finally happened, what now?! how will this change them? I am so EXCITED!!! I think most of the fans that read that part actually jumped up and down, coz I did and some people I know did too. Only they aren't at lunch sitting inside their office with an open door when they did that. (uh-huh I embaraased myself again). Finally an unexpected, never been imagined, never benn questioned and action pack "awesomeness" happened and a part that screams "this is an outrage! really is this happening?" How? What? I am not telling, you have to read it NOW people, you don't know what you're missing.』
(Feed your vampire addiction) 『Ordinarily, I wouldn't recommend skipping books in a series. Especially by the third book, there may be too much background info to catch up on. However, this book has enough exposition in it, the author seems determined to bring everyone up to speed and rope in new readers with this later addition if necessary. I think readers will enjoy the first two books of Vampire Academy, but if you are looking for some resolution to the romantic conflict and a dramatic cliffhanger ending, you'd do fine to go directly to this book without reading the others first.
There are three kinds of vampires: Moroi, dhampir, and Strigoi. Moroi are wealthy magic-wielders. Dhampirs are half-human, half-vampire, possessed of unusual strength. They can only bear children by Moroi, and their offspring will always be dhampir. Most male dhampirs swear fealty to a particular Morai and protect them as bodyguards. Many female dhampirs take on work as "blood whores" trading sexual services, and donating blood to Moroi for the high that it gives them. Dhampirs are treated by their Moroi counterparts as trusted servants as best, and second class citizens at worst. (I think it's quite telling that dhampir is not capitalized, but the other two are.) Finally, the Strigoi are former Moroi who have gone to the dark side. They are immortal, they enjoy killing humans, harassing Moroi, and are recognizable by their pale skin and red-rimmed eyes. Moroi and dhampir attend prep school St. Vladimir's to learn how to defend themselves against Strigoi.
The class tensions inherent in vampire society are finally beginning to bust apart at the seams. Once again, dhampir Rose is torn between love and duty as she struggles to keep her growing feelings for her tutor Dimitri under wraps as she protects her Moroi friend Lissa from Moroi attacks. Rose has already earned two molnija marks (the Russian word for lightning) on the back of her neck for killing Strigoi. This book includes a huge battle scene, which earns her a molnija star tattoo meaning she's killed too many Strigoi to count.
The end of the book brings plenty of tension and excitement. As graduation nears, Rose has begun seeing ghosts. She does have a love scene with Dimitri but almost immediately loses him to a Strigoi attack brought on by some foolish underclassmen, intent on hazing new members of their secret club. Christian, Lissa's boyfriend, uses his fire magic so successfully in the attack, that many are forced to re-evaluate the Moroi's 'helplessness' and the necessity of such harsh lives for the dhampir. Rose's friend Lissa who's been cavorting about, oblivious to the near-slavery that Rose has been facing as her protector, finally gets a long-overdue wake-up call about how selfish she's been when Rose ultimately abandons Lissa to drop out of school, mere days before graduation, to hunt down and confront the now-Strigoi Dimitri.』
(Shadow Kiss will leave you breathless for more) 『Let me quote myself: "Does 'Oh, my, gosh' cover it?"
This novel was truly fantastic. The plot was so much better in this novel than the last, and we really got some more insight on what it truly means to be Shadow Kissed. I thought Rose really grew up in the last book, and I was so wrong. She grew in this one. First, she doesn't get Lissa as a part of her field experience, then she starts seeing ghosts. Can life suck any worse? The end fight scene was entertaining, and kept me on my toes. This series is a definite must read.
Highlights: Dimitri + Rose = Awesomeness. Seriously, how long was I waiting for that? I also loved how Mead wrapped together all of these events, and had me going "it makes sense..."
Without a doubt, my favorite part was the very end, with Rose and Lissa. Weird, I know, but it was. I was thrilled that Rose finally thought of herself, and not everyone else.
Lowlights: The part that bugged me the most? Towards the end, one of the casualties in the fight. If you read it, then you know what I'm talking about. WHY?!? Now I'm dying to read Blood Promise... 』
(the 3rd installment in this NEED to READ fit ...) 『As I stated in the previous book reviews for the 1st&2nd books in this series ... we got this on a recommendation of my then 13 year old daughter's BFF. We tore through the first book in a few days time (the both of us)&so it was off to the bookstore where we got this book (Book 2)&book 3. It took us about the same amount of time about 3 days total for both of us to read this book and the about 3 days for us to read the 3rd. The books catch your attention early&keep it with action&suspense. Good pick for you tween/teen&even yourself ... Give it a try!
You really start to get into the Character's of Rose&Lissa ... there are other characters that are moving but these two are so dynamic that they get you and you start to wonder ... what will happen with these two? This book has some shockers ... the end especially so be ready to be rocked to the core!』 『Is Rose's fate to kill the person she loves most? It's springtime at St. Vladimir's Academy, and Rose Hathaway is this close to graduation. Since Mason's death, Rose hasn't been feeling quite right. She has dark flashbacks in the middle of practice, can't concentrate in class, and has terrifying dreams about Lissa. But Rose has an even bigger secret .... She's in love with Dimitri. And this time, it-s way more than a crush. Then Strigoi target the academy in the deadliest attack in Moroi history, and Dimitri is taken. Rose must protect Lissa at all costs, but keeping her best friend safe could mean losing Dimitri forever...』

I think he could have done away with all of that talk by assuming that if someone bought his book, they obviously found and/or sought value in it. I waited for him to get to the point but got bored before he ever got there.』

(Buy it!) 『A streight forward clarification of how to pleasure a woman. No more guess work. This is information that both men and women need to know. Excellent book.』
(An interesting read...) 『This book was an interesting read. While the subject matter could have been slanted in any number of ways, the author seems to given a fairly holistic treatment to the differences/similarities in approaching pleasure between the sexes. The book makes an excellent case in promoting cunnilingus as something worthy of more than mere foreplay, but an arena that should be thoroughly valued and everyone should explore. It describes a lot of why, it includes some anatomy to give a greater understanding of the geography, and last but not least, it gives some instruction, which is interesting even if you think you know the topic well. Beyond agreeing with the thesis of the book, it was an informative read, to further understanding this aspect of female sexuality without pandering to the reader.』 『"When it comes to pleasuring women and conversing in the language of love, cunnilingus should be every man's native tongue," writes clinical sexologist Ian Kerner, Ph.D. inShe Comes First, a straightforward, intimate, and exuberant guide to cunnilingus. Kerner first explored "the oral caress" as a way of compensating for his "sexual inadequacies," and quickly learned that women not only welcomed but often preferred "the way of the tongue," reaching orgasm more consistently than through intercourse. Kerner educates readers about the clitoris, "the powerhouse of pleasure," with 18 parts and 8,000 nerve endings (twice as many as the penis) and describes female sexual response from "foreplay" through "coreplay" to "moreplay." A large part of the book is a graphic, detailed primer on "mouth music," including best positions, step-by-step techniques (illustrated), and tips for tongue and fingers. How long should this last? Until the woman has an orgasm or many, says Kerner, and "melts blissfully before your eyes." "The vast majority of women complain about guys who don't like to do it, don't know how to do it, or simply don't do it nearly enough," writes Kerner. This book will change that. Women: Buy it for your partner!--Joan Price』 『As women everywhere will attest, when it comes to understanding female sexuality, most guys know more about what's under the hood of a car than under the hood of a clitoris. And while it seems that men have struggled valiantly since the dawn of time to find ways to reliably elicit the female orgasm, rare is the guy who has the modesty to ask: "What do I do?" Ironically, the answer has always been right there on the tip of his tongue.
Welcome to the world of SHE COMES FIRST, where the mystery of female satisfaction is solved and the tongue is proven mightier than the sword. According to Ian Kerner, clinical sexologist and evangelist of the female orgasm, oral sex has long been deemed an optional aspect of foreplay, but, in fact, it's coreplay -- simply the best way for leading a woman through the entire process of sexual response.
Fun, informative, and easy to read, SHE COMES FIRST is a virtual encyclopedia of female pleasure, detailing dozens of tried-and-true techniques for consistently satisfying a woman and illustrated step-by-step instructions to ensure success. These simple methods represent a new era in sexual intimacy, one in which the exchange of pleasure occurs on a level playing field and fulfillment is mutual.
SHE COMES FIRST exuberantly offers a fresh new sexual philosophy that inspires every man to make a mantra of Rhett Butler's infamous line to Scarlett O'Hara, "You should be kissed, and often, and by someone who knows how."』
