customer 's review
(THIS is the Sonic Youth you keep hearing about)

(Beautiful Mess)

(Good times with the Youth...)

(Got no idols...)

(No Wave Masterpiece... All Hail The Old School)
I have heard Daydream Nation, Goo, Dirty, Sister, EVOL and there were moments on all of them that I liked. Still, I never felt any of those albums went into the territory of pure noise that I had heard Sonic Youth would go into and would be such an inspiration for Cobain. Then I hear "(She's In A) Bad Mood" and can see that Cobain stole the ending of the song for his own "Aneurysm".

This is not a pretty album, this is not for everyone by any means. But it's pure noise and I love it. "Kill Yr Idols" the song definitely achieves the menace the Sex Pistols were going for, blowing away any sign of melody with a vengeance. It's awesome.

Sometimes you hear music that's so absorbing you can't think about anything else, and on that note I don't think this album will ever be background music, ever. There is no real structure to most of these songs, they're just songs, and after hearing enough verse chorus songs (which I do love by the way) to make my head explode, this album is a great change.

If I had just heard of this band and this was the first music of theirs I had heard, and you told me that millions of people loved them. Well, I would be surprised, but I would also think that was really great.

I don't like to give albums 5 stars unless they truly are a fave of mine. CiS comes close, but not quite. I wouldv'e given 4 1/2 if it was an option.

So this album is a mess. A brilliant mess of untuned guitars, stunning yet detached bass playing, and dissonant drumming (strange for a noise album). In My opinon this is Kims best album. Her vocals, while abrasive and completly out of tune (how i like it) are intense and grab u by the ears and won't let go untill the end of the song (in some cases longer). Also her Bass playing is pronounced more than usual, especially in her creepy droner Protect Me You. Her tracks are my fave ones on the album (Shaking hell, live Stooges cover I Wanna be Your Dog, and Protect Me You). In fact, I have never heard anything like PMY.

Thurston and Lee are crazy good. If you think the noise songs on Sister and EVOL are too much, hear this. They are not tuneless, they are positively Horrifying. Im scared to turn my volume up to loud, (as much as I want to), as I fear for the safty of my speakers (and my ears). They seem to try as hard as possiby to make the riffs sound bad, and as Bad as they are, it still sound euphoriuc. Although in my opinion their more structured than Evol and BMR, just in a different way. I prefer this to their later noise rock of plain guitar screeches. Here its just scary. Nightmarish as other reviewers say.

The drumming, is not Steve Shelley. I love him to death, but i think for the sake of this album it is a good thing. There doesn't seem to be much of a rhythem, probably because you can barely hear the drumming in parts, even though thy're not exactly quite. I wouldn't be suprised if the drummer (names escaped me) didn't even use a drum kit half the time. He might well have been smashing a bamboo stick on a dinner table. Theres absolutly NO structure to his drumming. And its perfect.

The added KYI EP is excellent. Dont buy the album without it. Shaking Hell live is awesome, and of course Kill Your Idols...

Buy it, but beware, it'll freak the hell out of you, and may find yourself regretting the purchase. Actually don't buy it if u found albums like Daydream Nation hard to get through, cos you won't have a chance.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying this album is simply "artistic" chaotic noise. Sure it's loud, and often harsh, but it's also very dance-worthy. Songs like 'Nature Scene' and 'Inhuman' have a pretty solid rhythm flowing throughout. Buy this one to play loud in the car or on Halloween!

This reviewer's favorite songs: 'Making the Nature Scene', 'The World Looks Red' and 'Early American'.

(Brother James is better live!)

At first I was reluctant to buy this CD because everyone claims its such a huge dpeature from their other work. This is what started it all. This album is not such a huge stretch from alot of Sonic Youth's work, yeah it's a bit more tense, but there's alot of the same qualities that make this a must own of an SY or indie rock fan. 'Daydream Nation' is a much louder album. It's not pop but believe me if you like their other albums you will like this. Everyone acts like 'Goo' and 'Dirty' were so mainstream, they are good records but this is better by far.

Anyways buy this and Bad Moon Rising, two albums that perfectly accompany one another.

Basically this album gave birth to the Art-Noise scene in NYC. Frankly, if you do not like this album you are ignorant. You do not get art or music-as-art.

(Opening new doors to sexual-love expression.)

(Good material: Quality poor)

(Enlightened Sex)

(Sexuality and Spirituality Unite)
Easy listening, thought provoking and insightful. To be shared with the one you love.
I liked the information but the quality of the CD was so bad that I could only listen to it on my computer. My regulard CD players did not work (car, radio/cd player, and stereo)--it just kept skipping and getting stuck. Also much of this is repeated on the other CD I purchased, Superior Male. Reading one of his books would have been a lot less frustrating.
The topic and the material is excellent. I found the CD programs to be defective and was unable to use on my computer. A replacement was sent and it performed the same way. I suggest not buying this product if you plan to use on IPOD or MP3. It is a defective product. I also spoke with the manufacturer who was unable or perhaps unwilling to correct the product defect.

David Deida's work is profound and can be life changing. I would recomend it to anyone interested in transcending the mundane in sex and spirituality
Amazing book, excellent information. Tantra and Sacred Sexuality are clearly explained and guided exercises are provided for your enhancement and enjoyment. 10/10, this was a catalyst for my growth!

(Awesome)

(POWERFUL INFORMATION!)

(It's About Time)

(The Texas Panhandle needs Pam Stenzel!)

(An absolute must see for all-beginning w/kids in Grade 4!)
Pam Stentzel is an awesome impact on teenagers these days. She tells them the truth about their decisions. She does this in a way that they understand and a way to keep their attention. i recomend this to everyone who has a child who is close to"that age".
This video was shown by a visiting RN to the students of the alternitive high school where I teach. What a powerful message Pam Stenzel has for all teenagers and young adults, whether they are already engaged in physical relationships or contemplating becoming sexually active. When I was a teenager all we worried about were the moral issues and getting pregnant. Too many people think HIV/AIDS is the only STD they need to be concerned about. Pam speaks matter-a-factly to teens about over 50 other sexually transmitted diseases, many that only abstinence will prevent. Most teens, and many adults who deal with teens, do not have all the facts. Pam makes sure that you have all the information you need to make an informed decision before you have sex, and tells you what options you have if you are already engaged in a physical relationship. We are making this video accessible to any student who wants to view it again at home. Our church ministers to a large group of"project"kids. We are going to use it in Sunday School. Wouldn't it be great if all teenagers had all the information they should have before they go out into the world?
Pam Stentzel does an awsome job of relating to teenagers the medical, wordly and Christian reasons why its so important to practice chastity before marriage. This video is perfect for any parent, school or community who wants to arm their teenagers with practical information that will aid them in making the choice for chastity.
I am a single father of two. I live in Amarillo Texas, a city with the highest teen pregnancy in the entire state of Texas. I was priviledged to see this video and would like to think that with the powerful challenges Mrs. Stenzel outlines, it would be very beneficial to have a rally here simular to the one she spoke of in Atlanta. My Son is 13 and my Daughter is 10. Both are at very impressionable ages. My son attended this showing with me and said he was really glad he went. We are very close and I could tell his thoughts were sparked. My daughter will attend next year. Mrs. Stenzel possesses the unique skill it takes to relate to the young crowds she speaks with. I was very impressed and wished something like this would have been available when I was a teen. I praise her stand and her passion for young people. I also want to praise our school system for allowing the PTA the freedom to show this video. Hopefully more schools will do the same and the results will turn our pregnancy rate in the other direction. If you can Mrs. Stenzel, come visit our city.
After having had made choices that have left painful consequences in my life, my answer to many of those choices was,"No one ever told me."Even after having made a wrong choice, I continued to do so, desparately seeking to fill an emotional void that I thought would come from physical"love". Pam's video hits on the fact that"physical love"scars us emotionally and physically. The emotional bound that we so desparately try to fulfill on our own can come only when we learn to respect and love ourselves by realizing that our self-worth lies not in what others think of us, but in the love and forgiveness of the blood of Jesus - - certainly not by engaging in an act that leaves us scarred for life. Although, thank God, STD's are not a consequence of the choices I've made, I have the tough responsibility of raising 3 boys without much help from their fathers. I would gladly welcome the opportunity to publicly tell my life's story if I knew it would help even 1 young girl to realize that engaging in physical contact is NOT the answer to an emotional void. Pam's video impacts those at an age when they need to hear it. Pam, I'd love to help you spread the message!

(Not funny.)

(Utterly Impressive)

(Clerks is awesome)

(the first and the begining of some thing new)
--------------
[first lines]
Dante Hicks: [phone rings and Dante falls out of a closet] Hello. What? No I don't work today, I'm playing hockey at two.
=====================

'Clerks' is the debut film of Kevin Smith, inspired by Richard Linklater's 'Slackers;' and it is the first movie in the 'View Askew' universe, a series of Kevin Smith films with interlocking characters and references. 'Clerks' is a student film financed with credit cards and loans from friends. An interesting bit of trivia is that the entire production cost only $26,000 and securing the rights to the music cost $27,000, more than the cost of making the film. With over 50% of the budget in the music, you'd think they'd have some really great songs, but you'd be wrong. Just run-of-the-mill punk and metal.

--------------
Coroner: What kind of convenience store do you run here?
=====================

Based loosely on "The Divine Comedy" by Dante Alighieri, there are nine breaks in the movie to signify the nine rings of hell. Did I mention loosely? James Joyce's 'Ulysses' and the Coen Brothers' 'O, Brother, Where Art Thou?' were both based on Homer, and they were based loosely, I'd say--but to really say 'Clerks' is based on Dante's 'Inferno' is a bit of a stretch.

--------------
Blue Collar Man: Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt, but, uh, what are you talking about?
Randal Graves: The ending of "Return of the Jedi".
Dante Hicks: My friend here's trying to convince me that any independent contractors who were working on the uncompleted Death Star were innocent victims when it was destroyed by the Rebels.
=====================

The clerks in 'Clerks' are Dante and Randal. Dante is the slightly more responsible of the pair. Though he resents being forced to clerk at Quick Mart on his day off instead of playing hockey, as he was looking forward to, he soldiers on--albeit closing the store briefly to play an ad hoc game of hockey on the roof and to attend a funeral. Customers constantly interrupt his reveries.

--------------
Cold Coffee Lover: What do you mean there's no ice? You mean I gotta drink this coffee hot?
=====================

Randal, who works at a nearby video store, is slightly less responsible. He embodies 'customer disservice' throughout. He leaves his video store because he wants to rent a video, a good video at a good video store--NOT the one he works at. The rest of the time he spends shooting the breeze with Dante at Quick Mart, or abusing his customers.

--------------
Indecisive Video Customer: These are the same two movies! You weren't paying any attention!
Randal Graves: No, I wasn't.
Indecisive Video Customer: I don't think your manager would appreciate it if-
Randal Graves: I don't appreciate your ruse, ma'am.
Indecisive Video Customer: I beg your pardon?
Randal Graves: Your ruse. Your cunning attempt to trick me.
Indecisive Video Customer: I was only pointing out that you weren't paying any attention to what I was saying.
Randal Graves: And I hope it feels good.
Indecisive Video Customer: You hope *what* feels good?
Randal Graves: I hope it feels so good to be right. There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others, is there?
Indecisive Video Customer: Well, this is the last time I rent here.
Randal Graves: You'll be missed.
=====================

Kevin Smith actually worked at the Quick Mart where 'Clerks' was filmed, and he was only allowed to film at night. Thus, the shutters had to be drawn and the premise for this was that pranksters had put gum in the locks of the shutters. He makes a sign with shoe polish so people will know the store is open which leads to a running gag about how he smells like shoe polish. It wasn't funny the first time, and gets less so with each repetition. But that is how he rolls, improvising around obstacles and limitations.

--------------
Dante Hicks: This is different, this is important. How many?
[long pause as customer buys something]
Dante Hicks: Well?
Veronica Loughran: Something like... 36.
Dante Hicks: What? Something like 36?
Veronica Loughran: Lower your voice.
Dante Hicks: Wait, what is that anyway, something like 36? Does that INCLUDE me?
Veronica Loughran: Ummm... 37.
Dante Hicks: I'm 37?

'Clerks' introduces the characters of Jay and Silent Bob, two drug dealers who hang around in front of the Quick Mart. Silent Bob is played by director Kevin Smith himself, and he says little, to allow motor mouth Jay more airtime. When he does speak on occasion, you listen. curious as to what he will finally say.

--------------
Silent Bob: [His only line] You know, there's a million fine looking women in the world, dude. But they don't all bring you lasagna at work. Most of 'em just cheat on you.
=====================

Dante's dilemma, apart from him being dissatisfied with his station in life and being forced to clerk on his day off, is that he has a girlfriend but can't get his ex-girlfriend out of his mind. He has been communicating with her, and they may get back together again, but he is conflicted.

--------------
Caitlin Bree: I'm offering you my body and you're offering me semantics.

'Clerks' is an interesting student film with loads of flaws--yet it has a certain charm and promises better things to come. The acting is terrible. No one is experienced, and it shows. But the real tragedy is that I wasn't even supposed to be here today.

----------------
Dante Hicks: You know what the real tragedy about all this is? I'm not even supposed to be here today!

This movie is simply offensive! It would be better with Carlos Mencia or Bob Saget.
Kevin Smith is a pretty amazing dude. From the quality of the film to the intense knowledge of the subject matter, the utter indie-ness of "Clerks" is apparent from the start. But when you really look into how Smith made this movie from the ground up, it makes the overall product that more amazing. Because not only is this a respectable indie effort, it's also a fantastic movie.

Instead of following the romantic tropes that the plot seems it's going to follow, the film instead focuses on the character interactions, giving special attention to dialogue that, at the time this was release, was only really done in Tarantino films. Smith definitely set the bar for raunchy comedies to come, already developing a style that would later become an influence on one of my favorite comedy film makers of all time, Judd Apatow.

But let's kill the comparisons, because Smith's work stands on its own. This day-in-the-life-of-a-store-clerk film has great insight onto that profession and the different, hardened states of mind that clerks develop after day after day of the same crap from customers. The characters are wonderful, the conflicts and plot points are so subtle and underplayed that you might miss them if you don't watch close, and the highly quotable dialogue really pulls you into the film. It's like one of those vulgarly fantastic books that you just can't put down.

8/10

This was the movie that lead me to the genius that is Kevin Smith. This was his first movie and I think it's the second best movie he has ever made. This is one of the comedies that echo truth that exists in you that you can only understand if you have actually worked as a convenience store clerk. The lead character Dante Hicks has to deal with irate customers, a girlfriend that has issues with his stature in life, an nymphomatic ex-girlfriend, and a best friend that almost wants to see him fail.

This is one of the ultimate slacker comedies. I was first aware of because of an article in Details magazine hailing it as one the latest and greatest independent films released. I went out to Suncoast Video (do those even exist anymore?) and purchased the VHS tape for 29.99 and went home and immediately popped it in the video tape.

This is one the best movie for one liners that you repeat to your friends. This is one of the movies where either you get it or you don't. It's one of the greatest slacker comedies made. If you haven't seen this movie, stop what you are doing and go out and get it.

I assure you this post is closed.

this was a great movie for its time looking back on it now it is so so but man it opened the door for a great man to make many more movies
About a day in the life of two friends who brave a non-stop parade of annoying shoppers. One while working in a convenience store and the other in a video shop next door. Studio: Buena Vista Home Video Release Date: 01/11/2008 Starring: Brian Ohalloran Jeff Anderson Run time: 92 minutes Rating: R Director: Kevin Smith
Before Kevin Smith became a Hollywood darling withChasing Amy, a film he wrote and directed, he made this $27,000 comedy about real-life experiences working for chump change at a New Jersey convenience store. A rude, foul-mouthed collection of anecdotes about the responsibilities that go with being on the wrong side of the till, the film is also a relationship story that takes some hilarious turns once the lovers start revealing their sexual histories to one another. In the best tradition of first-time, ultra-low budget independent films, Smith usesClerksas an audition piece, demonstrating that he not only can handle two-character comedy but also has an eye for action--as proven in a smoothly handled rooftop hockey scene. Smith himself appears as a silent figure who hangs out on the fringes of the store's property.--Tom Keogh

(Unforgettable Acting and Visuals)

(Top-notch period drama with great cast)

(Even better the fourth time!)

(Well-acted but depressing; historically doubtful)

(The Lion in Winter)
Want to see what real talent is; then take a seat, get out the popcorn, take the phone of the hook, and enjoy one of the best acting films of all times. Wonder why Peter O'Toole, Katharine Hepburn are to be remembered as top of the chart artists- watch this film. Wonder why Anthony Hopkins is revered today in both stage and screen performances - watch this film. This film is one of very few that truly earned its keep.
THE LION IN WINTER was adapted for the screen by James Goldman from his stage hit. Director Anthony Harvey has a superb cast, with Peter O'Toole as King Henry II and Katharine Hepburn as Queen Eleanor. The first-rate supporting cast include young Anthony Hopkins and Timothy Dalton, both making their screen debuts. The original Panavision cinematography looks great in this anamorphic transfer and the Dolby Digital enhances the great film score by John Barry. Hepburn, Goldman and Barry all won Oscars.
Extras include the original trailer and a commentary by Harvey. One of the great period dramas, with some witty contemporary-sounding dialogue. Also a fine companion to BECKET.

I saw the stage play forty years ago, and it was great. And every ten years or so, I watch the movie and enjoy it more every time.

But I have a question...

Why did James Goldman portray Henry II as a bisexual and pedophile ("Alais, in my time I've known...contessas, milkmaids,
courtesans...and novices, whores, gypsies, jades...and little boys..."), and his son Richard the Lionhearted as a homosexual?

Couldn't the story have been just as interesting and compelling, or even more so, without the homosexual fabrications? There was no historical or artistic reason to include any of that.

So, why? Could it be that Goldman was himself homosexual? Was he a closeted forerunner of today's hollywood writers, who include a homosexual character in nearly every television show and movie, to advance their own social agenda?

What other reason would there be?

This is a great movie to watch once. But while it is clever, it is not a feel-good film. One could sum up the plot as "scheming humans making themselves and others as miserable as possible".

As a period film, it is a mix of accuracy and inaccuracy. Henry II washing his face with ice water is a good touch, but the rest of his surroundings are unrealistically primitive. 12th century life was far richer than we give it credit for. The castle should have been teeming with servants and retainers. The clothes are too simple and drab: trade routes imported materials and food as far afield as China. Henry II was arguably the most powerful man in Europe at the time--he controlled more land in modern France alone than the King of France did--and his surroundings would have reflected his status.

Henry II, Eleanor, and their three living sons did indeed meet for Christmas in 1183. But while the issues addressed--the question of succession and lordship of the Aquitaine--were real issues, the playwright has combined over 15 years of family strife into a couple days.

Henry II's fondness for his youngest son John is exaggerated: Henry wouldn't have dreamt of leaving the kingship to a younger son. The film shows John as having the IQ of a doornob, while administrative records from his reign indicate he was quite intelligent.

The film's portrayal of Richard is out of date: his weakness of character is entwined with his alleged h
