The most eagerly awaited event in the editorial cycle at TIME Magazine is always the selection of the cover. The best covers capture the zeitgeist of the week while surviving the judgment of history. As browsing this collection of TIME cover art prints shows, TIME is as good a record as any of who and what mattered over the past 80-plus years. And so when TIME captures a person, an event or a trend within its iconic red borders, the magazine is adding that extra dose of significance that no other publication can quite match. That is one reason why the original artwork for more than 800 TIME covers now resides in the National Portrait Gallery in Washington. Thanks to an amazing roster of artists, photographers and graphic designers, from TIME's earliest charcoal drawings of cover subjects to its later black-and-white photography to the more recent paintings and stunning color photography, TIME covers have always been, sometimes quite literally, works of great art. And, while the times may change, the TIME cover, with its iconic red border, has never lost its power to immediately send the signal that this person or event or idea is important to our lives, that in some way history is being made before our eyes.

(Under rated excellence!!...)

(LS&D dearly missed!)

(This album is SHOCKINGLY great)

(Underated!!!)

(Bizarro hair metal gone real bad....)
In my opinion this album should be in every collection of anyone who's into 'Metal'/'Rock', or just something a little different etc. etc.
It is a great album in many ways: varied, driving riffs, a few quieter/laid back moments, inimitable vocals, humourous and even sad on 2 tracks depending on your interpretation.
I personally love Stanley's vocals, the musicianship is excellent overall and I truly believe this band could have produced more great albums if given the chance; I remember this album getting well reviewed, but I think both timing and some propitiative record company bulls*** came into play!
Anyway, regardless of that, treat yourself to a truly great/enjoyable album - playing it as I write this and forgot to mention... it's also timeless!

The Silent Majority

LS&D was before their time and stil to this day the album blows me away! The Style, Lyrics and gimick was the tops in my book. If you enjoy rock music with a twist then this album belows in your collection. I would have loved to see them live and seen more albums.... We can keep bands alive like Good Charlette (shiverrrr),but not a band with real talent and creativity? BUY IT NOW
At the end of the day, every song on this album is amazingly well written and thoughtful. Further, the musicianship and production are all top rate. If they are similar to any band, it is Ugly Kid Joe. Like UKJ, this bands has LOTS of dynamics (can go fast and slow), formidable musicainship, thoughtful songwriting, and are NEVER a cheap 80s cliche. Yes they are THAAAAAAAAAT good. REALLY.

I saw them at the Whiskey in LA. The band took the stage, then asked the crowd if any one has seen their lead singer named Stanley. Meanwhile this homeless dude who was bumming people for money was being kicked out of the club. Just then, the homeless dude runs up on the stage (evidently, he was Stanley). Then the band kicked off, and never looked back. Great set, like nothing I have ever seen. I mean REALLY great.

But whatever happened to Stanley??

I'm here to tell you I have this cd and you have to listen to how different these guys were.If you didn't like this cd you probally were a pansy still sitting aroud listening to Poison. This cd is raw energy with great vocals and a sound that NO other band in 92' could think about having....must have period.
This isn't the sort of release you'd normally expect to see rates as hair metal but in terms of chops and a lot of it's sentiments that's exactly the genre this release sits well in. I mean songs about sex, a song called Schools for Fools, songs with bucketloads of swearing and then a few more songs about sex. All topped off with some tunes about who knows what!

Ultimately a disposable bunch of heroes basically comprising three musicians and the inimitable Stanley on vocals - allegedly a street bum dude the guys sort of found and nurtured. Don't believe that gimmick? Hey that's OK cos nobody else did either.

Whatever the story is with Stanley the guy had a deep, resonant voice equally at home delivering low register crooning or gargled wailing. Both aspects of his voice get a decent workout on this release where his vox are backed up by sturdy riffing that's actually almost wasted on what is ultimately a joke of a release that ended up selling fine due to it's weirdness. The music is actually fairly fast paced and lively and the band are certainly solid in the wall of sound they create.

Main gripes would be the fact that the genuinely good tunes are few and far between. And the insipid pre teen sentiments of some of the tracks are only funny for about two listens before your praising the people who invented CD's as your so happy for the skip button.

A hard release to knock given that these guys couldn't possibly have been serious. The intention seems to have been a weird sort of late 80's metal implosion and that has certainly been achieved here, the sense of chaos not diminishing throughout. What this band could of achieved had they been more serious is shown by the excellent melodies married to the crunching riffis of some tracks, particularly tracks 6 and 9.

Pick up cheap as a curio if you need a laugh. Or want to shake your head at what could have been with a bit more of a serious approach to proceedings.

A very strong 3 stars, but due to it's wackiness and childish moments I can only give it the 3.

(Highly enjoyable lascivious songs...)
Sugar In My Bowl gives us a great collection of eighteen songs from the 1920s, 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s. These songs all explore the theme of romance sung by some of the greatest female artists of the day. It's great to see how these songbirds used simple everyday words to convey romantic ideas to their public without being caught by the censors. Wow!

The legendary Bessie Smith begins the track set with "I Need A Little Sugar In My Bowl." Awesome! Bessie sings this bluesy number to a tee and she never misses a note! The piano accompaniment works well but it still lets Bessie's vocals remain squarely in the spotlight. "I Want A Tall Skinny Papa" by Sister Rosetta Tharpe sports a big band flavor with a great male backup chorus to make this number take flight! Sister Rosetta sings this with all her heart and it shows as you listen to "I Want A Tall Skinny Papa."

"Just Give Me A Man" from Mabel Scott does indeed offer romantic hope to all men as she sings of how she wants to spend time with just about any--or all--of the men she can get her hands on! What a hoot! Mabel sings very well and the musical accompaniment enhances "Just Give Me A Man." Awesome!

Some of the songs on this CD use certain words to be rather suggestive. Take a listen to "Sam The Hot Dog Man" by Lil Johnson with its great arrangement and "Hot Nuts (Get 'Em From The Peanut Man)." I think you can put two and two together for yourself. SMILE

There's also an interesting early recording by Dinah Washington entitled "My Lovin' Papa;" we see Dinah showcasing her talents as a first rate jazz singer as early as 1945. Great! Sister Rosetta Tharpe returns to perform again; this time she performs "Rock Me," an excellent tune indeed. Love that guitar intro!

One of the more recent numbers on this CD would be the superb "Rocket 69" performed so ably by Connie Allen with a backup chorus harmonizing to perfection! "Rocket 69" sports that early rock and roll flavor which works wonders for this awesome number. Give this one a listen and you'll love it--I am sure of it!

Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end. This one's gonna be tough because the last number on this CD uses explicit lyrics to explore the subject of love. Lucille Bogan sings "Shave 'Em Dry (Version 2)" with great energy and you can tell she's enjoying every minute of this lascivious song! The sound quality is poor but you'll be able to hear every last word Lucille sings.

The liner notes feature an informative essay by Neil Kellas; and the artwork reflects good judgment. There are beautiful photos of Dinah Washington, Bessie Smith, Lucille Bogan and more!

Hey, people are people and romance enters into all of our lives. I highly recommend this CD for fans of this type of music; and if you ever care to talk a walk on the wilder side of the street, this CD is just the ticket!

Enjoy!

(It's the attitude)

(Anarchy For The UK)

(Buy this is you want a"remastered version"of this album...)
This landmark album caused a stir more for its attitude than its musical worth. Not that the songs are bad, there's a lot of merit in the fast-paced ditties but it's the snarl that counts! The highlights are God Save The Queen that made no. 2 on the UK charts in the queen's jubilee year, Pretty Vacant with its hypnotic chorus that became a punk anthem and EMI, the vicious attack on the record company. These little rants spawned a movement and a thousand bands. The energy is awesome and the mood electric. This was the radical shake-up that rock music needed at the time.

Sex Pistols Retrospective: A Visual History..

Rotten: No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs

The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle

This is a great cd for anyone who is just strating to listen to punk rock the Sex Pistols are in my opinion one of the best and most influential bands in all of punk rock everybody who thinks they're punk rockers should own this. If you like the Sex Pistols you should try thease bands out THE RAMONES, THE ADICTS, THE CLASH.
if you want an upgraded/punchier/clearer/louder sound, you cant go wrong here. it is the best sounding version of this album to date. i also have the new uk boxset and this sounds identical to disk one of the boxset (both are mastered from the analog master to my knowledge!?).

(purely beginner's info)

(Keep an open mind)

(Watch Someone Read The Book)

(AASECT Sex Therapist gives thumbs up)
If you have NEVER or have absolutly no idea how to have a female orgasm, this DVD can help you. If you do not know what a clitoris is...........you need this DVD. I can say it is tastefully done, though dated, early 1990's, felt awkward in places, like I was a voyeur in a loving couple's relationship..........This was difficult for me to judge, because I am far past this stage.
This is a good video that will help women become orgasmic if they follow the steps that are in it. It is a bit outdated and my husband and I especially were distracted by the 80's clothes. I thought it was good that they used an ordinary woman, not a porn star or super model for this video. I think the video would be more beneficial in combination with the book. For those who do not believe in masterbation, this is not the video for you unless you can get passed that and keep an open mind. I found this video beneficial to see that other women may have the same issues and same hang ups about being a sexual being (ie. religion).

This video does follow a couple that is having sexual issues because the woman is sexually frustrated and hasn't ever reached orgasm. Through some of the exercises she is to look at her body, decide what she likes and doesn't like, contemplate how religion and parents have shaped how she feels about sex, and then she goes through some exercises to explore her body. While going through these exercises you can hear her thought which I felt were helpful because I would probably think the same things.

Overall it is a decent video I just felt that it only touched lightly and too lightly on the religious aspect of a persons make-up and feelings about sexuality and what they feel is right or wrong. If you aren't religious this won't bother you. If you are suffering from difficulty reaching orgasm I recommend this video, try the exercises and keep and open mind.

I imagine the book Becoming Orgasmic might be pretty good&actually helpful. It seemed like it had some good ideas from what I could tell as the actress on the video read it outloud. This video consisted of watching a couple go through the processes / exercises in the book - listening to her thoughts, and watching her complete the exercises. It wasn't very helpful at all, especially since it couldn't include all the tips or instructions given in the book. I'm not really sure what I was suppose to get out of it. It might be slightly benefical if you also ordered the book but I doubt it.

Also the book and video are geared towards women who have never had an organism. If you are even slightly orgasmic these will not be of any value to you.
After 24 years as a marriage counselor, AASECT certified sex therapist, and online sexuality coach...I found this video to be the best yet for helping women understand and enjoy their sexuality. The real people on the video are an actual loving couple, so there is nothing prurient or porno about the film. Using this video and the companion book of the same name, my women clients have become less inhibited, more relaxed and sensual. Some were already orgasmic but sexually avoidant -- the story helped them learn how to talk about sex with their husbands. I highly recommend this video!
Based on the book with the same name, this remarkably powerful video uses detailed demonstrations to help women learn to achieve orgasm. The intimacy of the Becoming Orgasmic program is shared between the woman in the video, her partner, and you. The viewer is also invited to watch as she successfully tests the effectiveness of the program through explicitly portrayed exercises. About women -- but aimed directly at both partners -- this video guides women into an appreciation of their own sexuality, while showing how male partners can offer assistance and support in reaching orgasm. As seen in Sexploration on MSNBC.

(Exellent)

(Couldn't Help Rooting for Them)

(Hated this movie!)

(Good copy!)

(Why can't we just have an innocent good time?)
This movie was exellent. It was brand new so there was nothing wrong with it.
It is impossible to defend everything Thelma and Louise did as events unraveled. Never mind illegalities; some of their misdeeds were deliberate and just plain wrong.

However, I consistently wanted them to make it. If Louise was not going to turn her back on Thelma, then neither was I. Louise was the brains behind the outfit. Thelma was naive and less-than-intelligent, and she cost Louise dearly many times. No one could have blamed Louise for letting Thelma go in hopes that she (Lousie) could still make it.

Louise's love and friendship for Thelma turned out to be more fierce than her instinct for survival. Who wouldn't want to be on their team?

Another compelling thing about this film is the go-for-broke mentality. As their situations deteriorate, they start pushing boundaries and limits in ways that most of us never will. It becomes impossible to look away.

If you have only ever watched this on cable, you should rent this film at least once to see the missing scene between the stranded desert cop and the Rastafarian. It offers comic relief in a tale laced with desperation. By the way, the cop was played by the actor that portrayed Demi Moore's boyfriend in GI Jane.

Michael Madsen (Virginia's brother) would have been tempting for a lot of us girls. Hats off to Louise for realizing that to a large extent he was only pursuing her because he could feel her slipping away.

I am still hoping that somehow, some way Thelma and Louise made it. In film all things are possible.

I'm no Gloria Steinem but as a woman I found this way to "men hating" and all that. To me, it made women look horrible and really stuck to the bad stereotype of women. Blah! Bad accents don't help either.
I was very pleased with this video - It was for an older woman who still uses only VHS!!!!
If you can imagine a blend of "9 to 5", "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Bonnie and Clyde", you should come up with an approximation of "Thelma and Louise": a mix of adventure, humor and comrade in the style of the Burt Reynold's chase movies, and getting even with the stereotypical men who try to abuse, control or recapture these 2 women intent on a short escape from their boring lives. The possession of a pistol or two and daredevil driving enables them to silence or elude most of the males who try to abuse or capture them or just have some fun with them. Clearly, Louise and Thelma initially have very different attitudes toward the men who try to seduce them. Louise makes it loud and clear she wants no part of these amorous come ons, whereas Thelma, especially after a few drinks, is often flirtaceous and sometimes willing. But, Thelma eventually learned that fooling around with strange persistent men
can have traumatic consequences, and joined Louise in rebuffing these advances. According to the DVD commentary, many in the audiences cheered and clapped when Thelma's would be rapist is shot dead by Louise for his continued obscene threating remarks in the aftermath of Louise's breakup of the rape attempt. This clearly confirms what we may conclude from the popularity of confrontational westerns and action movies: that lethal vigilante justice, when done in appropriate circumstances, is considered justified by the majority of people, regardless of what the legal system thinks and does.
One gets the impression that even if this duo didn't face probable long prison sentences, they might have become permanent runaways from their unsatisfying routine lives. It is significant that neither had children, which may have alleviated some of their dissatisfaction, and which made their overblown girls night out gone bad practical. The fact that both these women were often foul-mouthed, smoked and occasionally went to seedy bars turns off some viewers, who label them brainless white trash who perhaps deserve some of the misadventures they suffered in their attempt to have a short escape from their boring lives.
Brad Pitt and Michael Madison provide two handsome hunks for female viewers to drool over, though very different. Brad represents the perfect con man who exploits naive vulnerable women both sexually and financially. He was the perfect bad boy for Thelma to find release in. Michael represents a man who isn't willing to settle down to a permanent one on one relationship, but who is willing to make occasional sacrifices for the women he has relationships with.
The ending seems appropriate for the duo. Like Bonnie and Clyde, the pair eventually knew they were doomed to long prison sentences, or to die in a shootout, car accident or by their own device. Like Bonnie and Clyde, they were prepared to elude their pursuers as long as possible, and to engineer their deaths if capture seemed imminently certain.
This DVD is of excellent quality and includes several special features, including commentary versions by the director and by a combination of the main actresses and the screen writer.

Thelma&Louiseis a feminist manifesto writ large on the big screen, a smart and funny gender reversal of the standard Hollywood buddy formula, a road movie extraordinaire, with characters who became instant cultural icons. No matter how you define it, Ridley Scott's 1991 box-office hit pinched a nerve and made the cover of national news magazines for tweaking gender politics like no movie before or since. Callie Khouri's screenplay overhauls the buddy formula with its story about two best friends (Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis) who embark on a liberating adventure that turns into an interstate police chase after a traumatic incident makes both women into fugitives; they are en route to a destiny they could never have imagined. The perfect casting of Sarandon and Davis makesThelma&Louisea movie for the ages, and Brad Pitt became an overnight star after his appearance as the con-artist cowboy who gives Davis a memorable (but costly) night in a roadside motel.--Jeff Shannon

(Trying Oh So Hard to be Noir)

(Deception So Transparent)

(its aw-ite)

(This Is Not A Thriller)

(Looks good but it'll give you bad indigestion.)
With a cast like this, how could you go wrong? Well, start with a script so full of holes it would pass as a substitute for Swiss cheese and then add characters so incredibly one dimensional that they bore you to tears. Mix in a little passionless acting and you have a recipe for dud.

There is no depth here...not in the plot or the characters or the direction. It is clear that the director was trying very hard to create a modern day noir, but without firm characters and a believable plot (we won't even go into how implausible this is), all the smoldering stares, the pretty lighting and the nerdy accountant who meets incredibly appealing (verging on homoerotic in the first 20 minutes) con artist, come off incredibly flat and uninteresting.

For a really good movie on manipulation and deception and sexual tension, try "Apartment Zero" with Colin Firth and Hart Bochner, who (I kid you not) is absolutely brilliant as a charming dangerous man.

Perhaps I am not the only one who thinks any films with such names as Hugh Jackman and Ewan McGregor is always worth seeing. Moreover, one notable thing about "Deception" is that the film is co-produced by Hugh Jackman himself. You can see why he was attracted to the role he plays in this film - here Hugh Jackman plays a type of character he is not usually associated with - but I still don't see what part of the film's generic script he found so attractive.

A meek accountant Jonathan (Ewan McGregor) meets a smooth-talking lawyer named Wyatt (Hugh Jackman) in New York City. They soon become friends, but while Wyatt is away from the city, Jonathan is accidentally introduced to a mysterious sex club Wyatt is a member of, and Jonathan encounters a woman simply called "S" (Michelle Williams). Things get complicated and serious, naturally, when Jonathan falls for her and Wyatt comes back.

The premise itself is fairly intriguing. I can also forget the numerous plot holes and implausible situations (how many of us would answer the phone and go out to meet a stranger like Jonathan does?). As to the sex club, I would not be surprised if it really exists and watching the supporting players such as Natasha Henstridge, Maggie Q and Charlotte Rampling is amusing. Also, Dante Spinotti's night scene photography using Genesis digital video camera is aptly cold, capturing the atmosphere of the office Jonathan works in.

But the film is slow, the characters are flat, and most importantly, the plot is obvious. First-time director Marcel Langenegger drops so many hints as to the story carelessly in the first half of the film that I started to think the predictability is actually a ploy to deceive us. I wish it were.

Michelle Williams is very pretty, but too skinny to suit me. Ewan McGregor is always good. I don't personally care much for Hugh Jackman. The story is pretty far-fetched. It also definately felt like I'd seen it all somewhere before. "Derailed" is similar but much better in every way. Don't get me wrong, it's not a total waste of time. It just could've been a lot mo betta.
Even if the title were changed, so as not to give away the rehashed plot, this film remains a predictable drama, with terrible acting, poor casting, no suspense or surprises, and an ending that is unbelievably bad. The sex is poorly staged and photographed and the director is entirely to blame for this booring film. Do not buy it, don't even rent it. Rent Femme Fatale to see what a really good thriller is all about.
In the fast corporate world of America, business is just business and entanglements are annoying hindrance.

However, if you're Jonathan McQuarry, you won't think so. He wants complications; he wants all the trouble and hindrances he can get. But it ain't exactly easy even though, seemingly on the outside, he is a well-adjusted and successful man. In reality, he is an awkward, lonely accountant, who craves companionship but doesn't have the confidence to chase after it.

While on one of his many two week jobs, auditing major corporations in the heart of FiDi, he comes across Wyatt Bose, a fast talking, smooth-sailing confidence man that Jonathan would give anything to immolate. Bose introduces him to the high life, and to the kind of existence that Jonathan has always dreamed of but never thought he could attain. It gets him thinking, wanting, doing.

When their phones are accidentally switched, it introduces Jonathan to The List, a Sex Club for the corporate and the highly successful and run by them. One-night stands, hot sex with beautiful strangers, Jonathan goes crazy and wild, gaining confidence and an edge along the way. And maybe, just enough to keep him alive.

As he meets more women, then beds them, both older and younger women, Jonathan can't escape the face of a beautiful blonde he caught a glimpse of in the metro. When he finds her, he can't get enough of her.

And thus, untangles the ugly truth of Wyatt Bose, aka, Jamie Getz, criminal extraordinaire, and his muse, the mysterious blonde woman 'S'. What Jonathan finds out too late is that the whole meet-greet and suck him in into the glamorous life is a game. To steal millions.

Deception is a standard psychological thriller/suspense that is mostly forgettable. It had a fairly well crafted character arch, in which Ewan McGregor's ability, as the geeky-gawky loser, gives more than what's there and is the film's only saving grace. Hugh Jackman pulled off a chilling and conniving criminal, though he just can't compete with McGregor. Mostly, this movie was so transparent, predictable and boring, following all the tried and true 'slight of hand' tricks that were woefully poorly executed, you'll shake your head throughout. Lacking wit or intelligence in general, the cinematography and the overall look of the film could makeup for the wasted effort, because that's actually well done and you won't take your eyes off for that precise reason. The surprise appearances by Maggie Q and Charlotte Rampling added some flavor and depth that the movie, in its entirely, lacked completely.

It wasn't the actors, who did well enough, though Michelle Williams as the troubled and doe-eyed S, while completely transformed as to not be recognizable, is a bland and useless visual. Her role as the vehicle to transform Jonathan is unfulfilled. There is one twist and turn that you won't expect but how it ends is not only lame, but disappointing and utterly saccharine. On a rainy day with little expectation and if you're in the mood for a predictable thriller, Deception will win you over. However, if you like a bit more thought and better story telling, pass.

With its attractive cast and "stylish thriller" vibe,Deceptionis a much better movie than a raft of negative reviews might suggest--provided that you can suspend (if not completely discard) your disbelief and go along for the ride. The first feature by veteran commercial director Marcel Langenegger, it stars Ewan McGregor as Jonathan McQuarry, a mousy freelance tax auditor who's taken under the wing of one Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman), a slick, ultra-confident Manhattan lawyer. We know from jump that Jonathan's new best friend isn't all, or even any, that he seems, and sure enough, when the pair "accidentally" switch cell phones, a series of credibility-defying events destined to turn Jonathan's bleak, lonely life upside down is set in motion. At first, it's all good, as the wide-eyed young CPA finds himself joining "The List," a Wall Street sex club that brings together lawyers, stockbrokers, and other professionals whose lives are too busy for anything more than brief, anonymous assignations at various high-rent hotels (exchanging real names is verboten is this world). But apparently spending nights with the likes of Natasha Henstridge and Charlotte Rampling isn't enough; when he meets the blonde beauty known only as "S" (Michelle Williams), the club's credo of "intimacy without intricacy" goes out the window, lust turns to love, and Jonathan is drawn into a protracted cat-and-mouse game that leads to murder, big-time corporate embezzlement, identity switches, and other nefarious activity. One needn't be Nostradamus to predict where all of this is headed, but that's hardly the point. Even if you don't buy a single moment of it,Deceptionis fun, flashy, and entertaining--and since when is pure escapism a bad thing?--Sam Graham
