This album can totally drift through the background as an afterthought or totally grab you by the color and engague you. It's really up to you how you want to hear it. That's what's so great about it... It's incredibly versatile. Hed Phone Sex is the epitomy of downtempo: Dark, dirty, and slow. I imagine not alot of people haven't had a chance to hear this record, so you have to check it out if you haven't. If you're open to this kind of stuff, it's a rewarding listen.
After a promising begining for the"new"genre of electronics and turntable Funki Porcini and Ninja Tune help push the boundries of what is"acceptable"as not being"wack". The music on this cd has substance from begining to end without any of the tipical garbage we all know and hear everyday, otherwise passing as"mainstream". Call it R&B, or whatever it's still crap anyway you cut it. With this release we can now get back to what making music is supposed to be all about.

Samples carefully mixed with instramentals that are equally dream sequence and funki groove( if you can imagine such a thing). There are two cd's in this release and they both deliver almost two hours of Porcini's style of what might have been called"trip hop"in friendlier times. Pleasantly surprised you will be.
a little gem...this album is groovy from begining to end. expect to be chilled, in a polyrhythmic soundscape. it's minimal, but finely crafted, with choice samples and solid beats. it's excellent for nookie, smoking and reading. dont listen to while driving...its a bit hypnotic.
This is a great album. So good that I lost it and then had to repurchase it. It is great background music perfect for quiet nights. Funki Pocini take you on a great ride from start to finish the same way the Beatles do with Abbey Road.

(Escape Club - Not another "One Hit Wonder")

("I'll Be There"alone makes the entire CD worth buying)

I found the song "I'll be there" and it is as I remember it from radio. A magic text together with corresponding music.

However the other stuff is poor. That's why the two stars.

Most will only remember the Escape Club for their late-80's #1 hit "Wild Wild West" - and that's a shame. In 1987, before they signed to Atlantic Records the band released their debut album, "White Fields" under the EMI label. In 1991, two and a half years after the release of 1988's "Wild Wild West" on Atlantic Records, the band peaked with the release of their 3rd and final effort, "Dollars and Sex" (also on Atlantic Records).

D&S's first single, "Call It Poison", enjoyed decent radio airplay and a healthy amount of exposure on Mtv (reaching #44 on the pop charts), but it's the second single "I'll Be There" that makes this disc worth any price you may pay. The top ten hit (peaking at #8) is sung from the perspective of a man beyond the grave to his love left among the living here on Earth. The song is both romantic and sad; haunting and inspiring. It's like the bittersweet ending to that movie that always makes you cry. Incentally, the song is rumored to have been inspired by the movie "Ghost" starring Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze.

While "I'll Be There" is worth the price of the disc alone - don't overlook the rest of this fine collection. The remaining tracks are excellent mostly up-tempo pop-rock with moments of dance, rap, reggae, and metal influence. "Edge Of Your Bed" and "So Fashionable" are fun, danceable rock similar to late 80's INXS. "This City" and "Freedom" are moody, atmospheric mid-tempo numbers with catchy, hypnotic choruses. And "Sugar Man" is a fun, almost island-style song - ironically about a serious subject: drug addiction. Every song on the disc is worthy of your attention, and the CD flows well making for an enjoyable musical journey. The disc is an easy "full listen."

While D&S is one of the more underrated and overlooked albums of the early 90's, it did earn The Escape Club a second well-deserved Top 10 hit with "I'll Be There" - allowing the English band to narrowly "escape" the dreaded lable of "one hit wonder."

I have also been looking for"I'll be there"for a very long time. My search began a little over 4 years ago when my brother died. The lyrics from the song ran through my head, but I dodn't know the name or artist and neither did anyone else. Finally, I have the song I have been wanting to share with others who love and miss him.
Although I didn't find this entire CD that great, the song"I'll Be There"is woth 5+ stars. This song hit the top 40 years ago, then dropped off the face of the earth. I never knew who the artist was, or the name of the song. I called every radio station in the Chicagoland area, and visited very reputable music stores and sang it for them, and still no one knew. After searching for probably over 5 years, I FINALLY found out who sang it. This song is the most touching song I have ever heard. For anyone who has lost someone - You will be able to relate.
I've loved the song"I'll Be There"since I was 10 years old. It moved me the first time I heard it, and 9 years later, it still moves me. It's just a truly powerful song. The rest of the songs are good enough, but just this one song makes buying the whole CD worth every penny.

This was the video I was forced to watch in Middle School Health class. The video itself is hilarious in today's context, because it was made so long ago, and the style is completely outdated. Some of little Jimmy's experiences are quite abnormal, though. I don't think it's normal to ask a zoo keeper about your little member, and it's even less normal for the zoo keeper to respond about how much he says the little members of elephants... Be prepared to laugh, then be seriously disturbed for a while.
13-year old Jimmy has a lot of questions about his changing body. (The most depressing movie ever!)

This is horrible, absolutely nothing sexy about it. At one point you see a GYN exam, how the heck does anyone think that is sexy! The female star is as weak a character as you ever saw.
This movie was one of the worst movies me and my brother watched by far. Some people might like it but to us. IT plain sucked.
During the past year or so I have watched three films directed by Breillat, Fat Girl, A Real Young Girl, and now Romance. Fat Girl, while it leaned heavily towards the realm of exploitation films because of its sexual content, had, in my opinion, by its depiction of how the sexual awakening of a younger generation can be staunched by an older one and how sexuality is expressed through food and its consumption. A Real Young Girl, Breillat's debut film caused quite a stir in France and in Europe because of its unadulterated depictions of a young girl's sexual awakenings, but, in my opinion, this film lacks the artistic merit of the other two films. Romance, while the filming is beautiful and quite well done and the actors and actresses are quite aesthetically pleasing, it falls short in my opinion.

Romance concerns the life of Marie, a young schoolteacher who has been in a sexually intense relationship with her model boyfriend Paul for six months. Things seem to be going quite well, but one day Paul informs Marie that he is going to cease having sexual relations with her because he is used up. He loves her still, but he no longer has sexual desire for her. This disturbs the quite sexually active Marie who attempts to stimulate her boyfriend only to be rejected. While not engaging in sex with her, Paul enjoys himself by going to dance clubs, drinking, and reading Charles Bukowski at sushi restaurants. Marie almost wishes that he would sleep with someone else so she can get angry with him, but she believes that she can only be with Paul.

However, in order to fill her desire, Marie begins sleeping around. First sheep sleeps with the "gifted" Paolo, but her main attraction is with Robert, a co-worker who claims to have slept with 10,000 women and who introduces her to sado-masochism. However, she remains unfulfilled. Will Paul regain his sexual desire for her or will she keep sleeping with any man she comes in contact with?

I guess the weakest aspect of the film to me is Paul. Although handsome, he comes off as a complete jerk and makes me really wonder why Marie wants to be with him. Also, the pacing is quite slow and at points Marie wallowing in her own pity becomes a bit too much. With that, however, I would recommend this to the fans of Breillat's films, or edgy contemporary French films in particular.

Jaime Wolf is either a liar or a psychopath, because this is literally the least erotic and most depressing movie I have ever seen (well... aside from "Breaking the Waves" maybe). This stupid, STUPID lead female won't leave her boyfriend even though he is the most self-centered jerk of all time. Instead she just engages in depressing, depressed sexual acts while complaining about herself and the entire world. The ONLY uplifting part is the final minute when she (THIS IS A SPOILER SO STOP READING HERE) finally wises up and KILLS HIM!!!!

If you're looking for a good Catherine Breillait movie, try "A Real Young Girl," which at least mixes eroticism in with its disgusting images. This one is just depressing and frustrating from beginning to end (aside from the last minute).

And about that 'hardcore' footage -- it's the lead actress trying pitifully to arouse her asexual boyfriend on a few different occasions. Wow! What a turn-on!

This is an excellent movie. The actors/actresses in it are perfect. The movie stays with you long after it's finished.
This is one of the BEST movies I have ever seen. A MUST HAVE for any collection.
This moving film from director Robert Benton brings to life a time and place as few films have ever done. Benton based this on his memories growing up and everything is authentic to the smallest detail. He shows the good and the bad of this area and era in small town Texas. Sally Field deservedly won the Oscar for her natural and poignant performance and Danny Glover is just as memorable.

Waxahachie, Texas, in 1935 when jobs are scarce and justice often left in the hands of men hiding behind sheets is the setting for this tender look at times trying to change before people are ready to. Field is extraordinary as Edna Spaulding, finding she and her two children suddenly alone when her sheriff husband is killed by accident. She has no idea how to support her family and the bank wants her to sale her home and the land around it to pay off her mortgage. She is scared but determined to find a way to stay.

Along comes Moses (Danny Glover) to suggest she use the small amount of land to plant cotton. It will give her enough to save her home and feed her children. But Moses is a black man in a time when a black man is suppose to keep his place. His advice to the innocent Edna prevents others from cheating her and gives her a fighting chance. It also angers those who cannot fathom a black man being smarter than they are.

John Malkovich is terrific also as the blind boarder she takes in, who just happens to be the banker's brother-in-law. The three form a bond as they overcome every obstacle together and each helps out to form a makeshift family unit. Field gives a subtle performance as we see her loneliness for her husband and her love for her little boy Frank and his little sister Possum. The scene where she must now take over the disciplinary duties is particularly moving.

The hardships of nature are shown as well when a storm suddenly appears out of nowhere and even more suddenly turns into a tornado. Edna barely has time to deal with her sister Margaret's (Lindsay Crouse) marital problems. Wayne (Ed Harris) is having an affair with his wife's best friend Viola (Amy Madigan). All the performances have a realistic feel, capturing perfectly life in a small Texas town during the depression.

When Moses helps her make a go of it the racial hatred of the time is shown in a beating that will force him to leave or probably be killed. The scene between he and Edna near the end will surely tug at your heart and anger you at the same time. The anguish of Moses as he knows his time has not yet come is truly the most heartbreaking moment in the movie.

This was a landmark film and not to be dismissed. Many have tried to copy this formula but this one is the real thing. The final scene is one you will never forget. This is a film you must own.
I have watched this movie since I was a little girl and always have been enchanted by it. I am proud to own the DVD to it now! Sally Field, yes we do love you!!
This is one of my all-time favourites since I watched this movie more than 20 years ago. I recently found this movie DVD from a public library and was so excited that I can watch it again now! Even it is my second time to watch this movie, I am still deeply moved by it!

The story of this movie took place in the rural Texas when racial discrimination was still a very serious social issue. Sally Fields is the widow Edna whose husband, a sheriff, was shot while on duty by a Black teenager. Her husband left nothing to her because of the Great Depression of the time. She all the sudden has to face the adversity of the real life - how to maintain her home and raise her two childs without any real financial supports.

At this time, a Black guy Moses came to ask for a job but eventually becomes her saviour during this most difficult time of her life. There is a blind man, Mr. Will, was "dumped" to her home as a tenant in order to help getting some rental. During the movie, there are times when the Black guy Moses is so strong, and the blind man Mr. Will is so helpless (e.g. in the cotton field and during the storm). However, there are also other times when it is exactly the opposite (e.g. the KKK incident).

All in all, without giving away the plot, I would say that every part of the plot of this movie is wonderfully and tightly knitted together. Every incident in this movie does not happen just for filling up the time but for a purpose - in fact, a very meaningful purpose. It shows that every individual as a human being is simply equal, regardless you are a Black person, a blind man, a widow, or a White man in a society such as this. It further dreams of an ultimate reconciliation - between the different races, social outcasts, and even the murdered and the murderer.

The ending is particularly powerful. In fact, it is the most stunning ending I have ever seen. It is symbolic and it is deeply moving. However, in order to fully appreciate that, you will have to watch the movie from the start to the end without jumping so that you will get a glimpse of what the final reconciliation really means in this story. Also, when you watch this movie, pay special attention to the beginning. As another reviewer rightly pointed out, the beginning and the ending forms a wonderful contrast.

I will give this movie a six-stars if possible! Not only for the beautiful story, but also for the wonderful performance of all the three lead roles and even the two kids. There are not too many other movies as moving and meaningful as this one.

Embrace of the Vampire is a ultra-sexy thriller that stars Alyssa Milano and Martin Kemp. Despite its stupid performances, the film actually made complete sense, and was sexy non-stop. I recommend this film to any fan of erotica.
This film is for Alyssa Milano fans only. There's no story, there's no acting, there's no creativity,...there's nothing. There is Miss Milano nude though, and if you're into seeing pretty girls looking barely 18 engaging in lesbian sex, then I guess this one is for you, because if there wasn't a fast forward button on any DVD remote, nobody, and I do mean NOBODY would ever finish this made for after hours cable-TV turkey.
Oh, I gave it four stars because I like to look at 18 year old lesbian sex.
Just get it, it's so worth your time and the meager price. It's Mystery Science Theater bad, but with naked Alyssa Milano. So dumb. So good. You'll have a blast watching this brilliantly stupid flick.
