(Dark, Tough, and Not as Dreamy as the First)
『I loved the first book. I raved about it. I practically forced my friends to read it. I was breathless waiting for the second to arrive in the mail from Amazon.

Well, it was very good. But it is so different than the first book and has a lot more developmental problems than the first that it almost didn't feel like it belonged to WAKE.

WAKE was dreamy - an extraordinary world opening up amidst darkness and loneliness - exacerbated by a complicated and hungry teenage love. I read it twice. I was on pins and needles the whole time.

FADE isn't even a little bit like that. It is harder, darker, faster, rougher. The subject matter is shocking and doesn't make the reading fun at all...not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but it is so uncomfortable to read sometimes that it really sucks the dreaminess out of the book entirely. It is hard to fall in love with Cabel and Janie's wonderful romance while having to face the twisted, sick sexual predators Janie is helping the police track down at her school.

Positives: I think that Janie is maturing as a character, really coming into her own. The writing style, sparse and beautiful like a constant weaving of thoughts and moments, is even better this time around. It reads as easy as breathing. Most of the time Cabel remains a great character, and towards the end we get real insight into WHO he is now, and less about who he was THEN. I also like the relationship between Janie and the Captain. The sensual love scene between Janie and Cabel is so beautiful it left me with goosebumps. It was such a beautifully written scene. So many authors either pretend that teenagers don't do that, that it's not appropriate for teenagers to read about, or they write it so awkward and uncomfortable to read that no one can mistake it for sensuality. I think Lisa McMann really took a chance with that scene and the results were a stunning success.

Negatives: There is so much plot in this book, there is very little character development and interaction. Carrie is a nonentity, the mom is even MORE of a nonentity in this book than she was before, almost to the point of implausibility. Even Shay, the girl that we are informed at the beginning of the book is still hot for Cabel doesn't even make an appearance in the entire novel. Instead we are inundated with creepy ass teachers and a lot of in depth analysis of teenage police work. Which is another thing that bothers me- the assignment is almost too horrible to believe. It seems impossible for me to think that the Captain, who seems to care about Janie, would put her in the situation that she does, and even more impossible to accept Janie's reactions to Cabel's reactions. He freaks out, she gets mad at him for trying to control her. And as for Cabel? While he is a fantastic character most of the time, the end is a little too neat. He seems to understand himself in the way an adult would understand their teenage selves looking back fifteen years later. He didn't seem like much of a teenager. Which was too bad. In the first book his teenage habits actually give more life to him.

Like I said, not as great as the first book, but still very good. I am excited to see how she pulls it all together in GONE. It should be very, very exciting.』

(Just don't Fade away...)
『You know how sometimes when you start a book (or series) and you get a little drop in your stomach that seems to grow worse with each page turned? I kind of have that feeling for the Wake series. Even the parts which are 'good' moments for Janie are tainted with the future knowledge that things can get worse. And this is before we find out (or Janie acknowledges what readers might have guessed at) what the future has for Janie and her power as a Dream-Catcher.

For Janie, what's happening to her isn't as apparent as it is to others (Cabel and the reader, even the Captain) and that's understandable. She's falling into worse nightmares and where as before she just fought to get out of them, now she feels as if she must help the person and the defeat she feels when she can't is crushing. These aren't random people to her anymore, they might just be classmates, but Janie wants to help them. She wants to give them peace of mind.

The menace in this book is frightening in a very real world sense. McMann is able to slowly build the threat--we learn as Janie learns about the crimes being committed or the crime about to be committed. Cabel's tenseness is also felt as he struggles to both protect Janie and give her freedom. As their feelings grow deeper and they both take more risks I worried for them.

The third book, Gone, is due out in February of 2010-sooo far away! I'm hesitant though to want to read it since the dropping sensation I felt since the first book has grown immensely and there isn't much to recommend that the ending will be anything but bittersweet.』

(Leaves You Wanting More)
『After reading "Wake", the first book in this series I immediately went out and bought "Fade". This is a book series that does not disappoint. One of the things that I like most about this book is that it is not predictable. This book is an amazing mix between a love story and sci-fi adventure. I would most definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys the paranormal or even those who like a good love story.』

(Can't wait for book 3)
『Great follow up, again I couldn't put it down. Read in 4 hrs. FADE picks up shortly after where WAKE left us. Janie goes to work undercover to help discover a sexual predator lurking in the high school. She also struggles with dreams that become harder to return from. With a little help she learns the truth about her abilities and what her future holds. I'm excited to read GONE but I'm very worried about Janie and how her abilities may destroy her.』

(Even better than the first one)
『The book opens happily: Janie and Cabel are happy and have settled into a high school, virginal version of domestic bliss. Their relationship still must be a secret, but they're happy and supportive of each other. They're both still working undercover for the police, and this case is intense: the cops received two calls, six months apart, on a high school-specific hotline about teachers having sex with students. With no details to go on, Janie and Cabel try to figure out if its true, and if so, who the offending teacher is. Cabel struggles watching Janie put herself at risk to catch the bad guy.

Review: I loved Wake, but Fade is better. If you're faint of heart, be warned, this novel is as naughty as the average episode of Law&Order: Special Victims Unit. Translation: this novel addresses sexual predators (the teachers preying 18-year-old student variety) in a very real way. I found myself drawn to Janie more and more as a character and as an inspiration. She is strong, physically and mentally, beyond her years. As an adult reader, this novel felt much more mature to me than Wake did. McMann is still true to her characters, but they are hardly living in a young adult world. (I do not mean to say this novel is inappropriate for teen readers.) Watching Janie come to grips with dream catching was tremendously emotional. Needless to say, I cannot wait to see how Janie's life is going when Gone comes out February 9, 2010.』

『My daughter is 9&is exploring the world of boys. This book is very informative without getting into the sexual aspects of liking boys. She was very intrigued by the comments left in the book from schoolagers who have explored relationships at a young age. I recommend this to any parent who is seeking to allow their girl understand relationships from an innocent, yet peer cited point of view.』

(Book has merit for girls heading to middle school)
『After reading the comments by Christian reviewers I felt compelled to share some thoughts. I am Christian but I don't find fault with this book. First, I read the book to see what is in it. It doesn't go beyond holding hands or kissing and points out that kissing is something personal and private. I think parents need to consider their own daughter and their own morals to decide if the book is appropriate. If it is, at what age is it appropriate?

I found that for my almost 12 year old who is headed to middle school next fall it's time to deal with these issues. Most of the book is completely acceptable and I intend to discuss behaviors and ideas that I think are too mature with my daughter. It's a good way to open discussion and to provide common ground for us to talk about things when it comes time for her first dance, etc.

The book isn't anti Christian it just doesn't deal with religion--Christian or Jewish or Muslim etc. The religious ideals can come from parents! Every little girl isn't Christian. I suspect that even within "Christian" groups there are differences between Methodist, Baptist, Catholic etc. and within those denominations I suspect there are differences between individual churches and individual families.

The book is well written (for the tween/teen audience), colorful and deals thoughtfully with the issues. I think it's got a place on my daughter's shelf.』

(Contradicts our family values)
『I would not suggest this book for a Christian family. The premise is commendable, but the content contradicts how we are trying to raise our daughter. For example, the book offers tips for a first kiss to girls as young as ten, and insinuates that such behavior is normal and acceptable. I have worked with children in this age group, and I know it is possible to balance hormonal changes and desires without experimenting with romantic or physical relationships prematurely. This may work for some families, but Christian parents should use a more biblically sound text, as well as scripture and common sense, to address these issues with their children.』

『I really tried hard to enjoy this cd but it is just impossible. I'm a huge tool fan with all there albums and everything else that comes with being a fan: t-shirts, etc... The thing is is that it sounds like some bum with a violen downtown playing tool songs. Nothing much. It is really upbeat and high pitched when the tool songs are supposed to be dark and moving. To start with they need more instruments then that lame ass violen or whatever they are using you may say, "oh but they have more instruments you just are being annoying!" NO! all I hear is that annoying fast-paced, high pitched string instument. I would recommend listening to this cd entirely before you buy it, I guess some people actualy liked this cd since it has 4 stars right now. Thank God I bought it on ebay for $3.99 it made for a good disc. I'm just putting the word out there, this cd sucks.』

(String Quartet Tribute - Good Intentions)
『Tool's music has often been described as "orchestral." It can evoke so many different emotions. My mother even enjoys listens to them. In fact, she says she can almost visualize a ballet to some of their songs. That being said, classical music can sometimes have EVERYTHING to do with a band's music, which would make it obvious to do a string quartet tribute album. I study classical music at a collegiate level, and I applaud these groups' efforts. However, a tribute doesn't necessarily sound good by just playing the same notes as was written. Classical music is played with a different style, and is meant to evoke emotion (just as Tool does). This CD in particular sounds like someone plugged in a Tool recording into a MIDI file. No emotion whatsoever. A lot of the songs chosen don't translate well to a quartet of strings, and the ones that do are so incredibly bland. This idea is great, but I have yet to run accross a SQT with nice arrangements and professional performers.』

1. We as artists give the String Quartet Tribute producers the right to put these CDs out.
2. It provides our songs the opportunity to be heard and played in venues that would otherwise not play our music.
3. We get paid for every single CD that is manufactured.

There is nothing "shameless" about their efforts, it is the music business and it only helps extend the life of our songs by having new releases of them available for our current fans and the new ones we gain from the different versions.

I'm not writing this as a debate, I actually have bought every String Quartet Tribute CD I could find to support the efforts of this great series after I was given a copy of the one which pays tribute to my band; Dashboard Confessional.

This is a great album as are the others. I believe that it is a great investment for any fan and each copy that you buy actually pays the artist because these products are licensed.』

『For reference, I am a 30 year old white girl :-) This record would be a great place to start, as an introduction to Kool Keith. I have listened to just about all of his work and think this record is a great example of his style as an artist. Kool Keith is continually pushing the boundaries and always comes up with something that is unique - this record is a great example, I challenge you to find another one like it! On "Sex Style" Keith presents some "pornocore" that is just awesomely ridiculous. He is a true original. All of his personas are interesting but I find this incarnation the most visionary, and true to himself. No wonder he ended up collaborating with other geniuses like Mike Patton (Peeping Tom) and Dan the Automator... he's making music that is real. That's the simplest way to describe it. As far as the songs, they are all catchy and the lyrics are really awesome. The best ones are "Sex Style," "Make up Your Mind," "Sly we Fly," and "Get off my Elevator." But the crowning moment of genius is "Keep it Real.. Represent." There are some lyrics here that are sexual and if that would offend you, then stay away. But if you want to hear some rap that is totally different than anything else out there, you must check this out, it's an underground classic. "alt-rap" if you will... he doesn't always rhyme but his flow belongs only to him. Throw all your ideas about what rap music 'should be' or 'used to be' or whatever, and with an open mind, realize that kool keith doesn't fit any mold, or follow any conventions, and the results are sublime! "Sex Style" remains one of my top favorite records of all time and for anyone looking for something different, just take a chance and give this one a spin., I don't see how you could be disappointed.』

(My rebuttal to Carmen)
『This was my comment on the condition of the tape of Carmen I got from Amazon, the class I mention was my rebuttal to Carmen. I explain in that class that I loved the sound track to Carmen but I was surprised to find that the translation revealed the evil side of women in this movie. I think the reason heaven blessed this with such good music was in the song by Mary Poppins, "A spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down". The truth can be a bit hard to swallow but this well done movie was the first time the evil side of women was so clearly conveyed to me. My rebuttal to the evil side of women is told better on my first class, #1a at Vimeo, but the last class sums this movie of Carmen better.

Dear Mike Libby,
I got the tape in a few days and copied it to a dvd (it came in perfect), so I could record a class over it. That's class #127x12 at MikeOversonEndTimes-org. I talk about Carmen and show a few scenes of it in the first 30 minutes, you can tell I recorded over that tape at the very end (at 2:08 minutes). It was a perfect tape to record my "LAST CLASS&GOODBYE" on. (Because the evil side of women has ended the magic and wisdom heaven was sharing with "the one" to share with the public through these classes, that made Carmen the perfect tape to record my "last class&goodbye" on). Thank you that it was in such good condition. (Class 127x13 is a 53 minute summary of 127x12 that I did for Vimeo, under MikeOversonEndTimes.)

I just looked at every review of Carmen and didn't find even one by Leonard Maltin. However John A Furner's review: "Maltin's Carmen review is brain dead" was right next to my review. Being "the one" I've learned about the evil games they play on the internet to discredit, mock or slander what I'm doing, and this is an example of it. Fortunately for me, God has a way of complementing the things I do, and that includes even this movie review I did of Carmen. Before tell it I'll provide the instant knee jerk reaction to mock a story from "the one" and that is: "U R so vain!". That was the feedback I got 10-12-09 that caused me to record "MY LAST CLASS AND GOODBYE" over the tape of Carmen the next day on 10-13-09. The amazing complement I found was in the lyrics to the song "Daniel" by Elton John. Though I've only seen (and loved) Spain on tour videos and in Carmen, I believe the lyrics refer to my premature death, that's from God ending my classes and my life soon due to "no thanks, no pay and no respect". As it says in the song: "Daniel is traveling tonight on a plane, I can see the red tail lights heading for Spain, oh I can see Daniel waving goodbye, God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes... Daniel my brother you are older than me, do you still feel the pain of the scars that won't heal, YOU'RE EYES HAVE DIED but you see more than I...Oh I can see Daniel waving goodbye, God it looks like Daniel, must be the clouds in my eyes".

A film classic that is sadly out-of-print in the U.S.

Now, about those outrageously priced collectors copies to which there is a resonable alternative. For less than the price of several of the used copies, it is possible to buy an all-region DVD player from Amazon for around $100-$125. Then you purchase a region 2 copy of Carmen from Amazon's U.K. service. You'll get the same great movie for $34.99 and have the ability to play DVDs from around the world. An added advantage is that the region 2 import of Carmen is anamorphic, providing a better picture than the grossily overpriced U.S. edition.

『I have been needing to begin kegel exercises for quite some time now and have read great reviews about Smartballs, and was very excited to try them for myself. I am a beginner kegel exerciser and wanted something to make the exercise more interesting

One thing I like about Smartballs and two things I do not like:

To begin positively: The thing I really like is that they really DO feel great when they are inserted and sitting in there correctly. I love the little vibrating sensation.

First problem: They do not stay in that correct position for me for more than 5 seconds or so, they are too heavy for a beginner like me. If they made another lighter weight model for beginners I am sure they would stay in better for me. I wish they would slide in as easily as they slide back out. Adding lube will only make them slide back out even faster.

Second problem: The "string" feels like a rubber band. I know it's not rubber, but it has a bit of stretch like a rubber band has. Ouch.』

『One of my favorite pictures of all time pictures. The story, though somewhat werid at first, is campy and cultish. However, it has enough "body" to make one think of how life throws events at us that seem to make no sense at first. As we progress throuh time, if we are aware, we realize the events all come together to create what we refer to as "our lives". The search for friendship, love and happiness often falls on "the rocks" no matter how hard we strive to hold onto them. Hedwig's case in point. All we can do is "keep pulling out the wig, wearing it for a while and then putting it back on the shelf".
The song, "Origin of Love" is one of the most beautiful, thought provoking songs ever written. Truly written from a perspective of love I had never considered. Probably, one of my favoritesongs ever.
If you like the off beat, silly, touching, funny, depressing and "enjoy life today" genre of flicks, this is a must see and own movie. Enjoy.』

『This movie was recommended by Netflix based on my previous selections and ratings. I had seen a movie trailer in theaters some years ago and was not interested. I am glad I gave this film a chance. It changed my life. I think it is the best movie I've ever watched. The acting is superb, the songs are fantastic, the storyline is brilliant, the casting cannot be better. Since I bought it I must have watched it 20 times. Several times I invited friends and neighbors and everyone loved it. It is a true 21st century masterpiece, and like every masterpiece everytime you watch it (or look or listen) you discover deeper meaning, brilliant details, and overall genius. The movie is a portrait of an artist, and nothing else should be said before watching it. After watching it, I've decided to read Plato's Symposium and Isherwood's The Berlin Novels, two books that are related to the movie. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this film.』

『People who know me will look at the title I gave this review--and if they didn't already think so--say, "Oh my, now the poor ol' thing's finally lost it..."

I can't help it, I really liked this movie. It had all the earmarks of potential disaster for me. I'm not real found of female impersonation, particularly in a sustained artistic form such as a film. Then there are the inevitable comparisons between HEDWIG and other similiar genre like ROCKY HORROR SHOE, PRISCILA OF THE DESERT, etc. I enjoy comedy, and I also enjoy substance. The world of female impersonation/drag queens can be extraordinarily superficial, filled with an angst that can be met with a world weary response like "So, what?"

Let me start with the nuts&bolts, like John Cameron Mitchell's form of gender bending&his musical lyrics&routines. He conveys a great depth to Hedwig without being mired in pathos or mere impersonation. Visually his chracter(s) are stunningly realistic (given the unreality of the world in which s/he lives.) The songs are fantastic, somewhere like a cross between T-Rex&Talking Heads. Some of the animation interjected reminded me of Bjork music videos. Not a great lover of musicals, I found myself actually looking forward to the next number.

Pertaining to the Gnostic element, a major theme in the film, it involves Hedwig's relationship with a boy who talks like a Jesus freak, but there is a much deeper level to his spiritual view--and it interacts with Hedwig's views on The Origin of Love. Either intentionally or not, it is almost a classic Gnostic interpretation of The Garden of Eden story of The Fall of Man. The fact that Hedwig invents the name of Tommy Gnostic for her lover may indicate that the artist knew exactly what s/he was doing when it came to the Gnostic theme.

I say "artist" because this film is the creation of a great artist in association with other obviously great artists.

Fired Up is everything that is wrong with the teen comedy since the end of the 80s; the movie tries too hard and the comedy feels mostly forced and when all is said and done it just really wasn't very funny at all with the exception of a scene or two. Since the end of the John Hughes era the teen comedy has failed at almost every film released with the exception of some of the American Pie flicks and 10 Things I Hate About You; Fired up features all the flaws this genre has seen over the years.

The screenplay apparently was written by 4 different people, but in the end the name Freedom Jones is used. I really hope that isn't true since if it is the writers prove to be nothing more than hacks. The script attempts a lot of sex jokes, but people need to learn being a little racy (in a PG-13 way) isn't funny when it's forced. Writers seem to think a few sex jokes and you have enough to carry the movie. All these antics might be funny to a young teen or pre-teen, but even they'll probably be able to see through it all.

All the characters are the typical cardboard cut outs we've seen millions of times and we'll probably see a million more times. Nick played by Eric Christian Olsen is the more obnoxious one and Shawn played by Nicholas D'Agosto is the more sensitive one. That's something we've never seen before; Nick and Shawn get into the typical, but boring teenage antics and it truly is a bore. The screenplay fails at pretty much every aspect; weak characters and idiotic and unfunny moments.

The direction by Will Gluck is rather boring and uninspired and while Gluck does attempt to inject some life into the movie he never really manages to get anything going. The pacing is boring and the scenes lack any fun or excitement; the over the top scenes just come off as idiotic and a little too silly and Fired Up is just never really funny at all. In fairness, Will Gluck didn't have much of a screenplay to work with, but what little he has he never takes advantage of.

The performances are a little bit better and the leads Olsen&D'Agosto actually give fun and entertaining performances, but their talents are wasted with a terrible script. Olsen is really over the top, but it mostly works well. The two leads are about the only real positive aspect of the movie. Like I said the leads are entertaining; but aren't given anything to work with. Sarah Roemer as Carly also manages to deliver an entertaining performance, but is also wasted. The actors are about the only real positive part of the movie.

Fired Up has been often compared to Bring it On, but despite the marketing they aren't that much a like, but there is one funny scene and possibly the only funny scene when the characters are watching Bring it On. But again despite the marketing the two movies aren't as much a like as it was made to seem, but comparing this to Bring it On would be an insult since that movie was actually entertaining.

In the end Fired Up fails at pretty much every level, while the performances were good, the writing and direction sink this ship. Its cliché heaven and is never really funny at all.』

I think the cast were perfect in their roles.

Course, in this day in age, a lot of the thing the Franklin Hart character&the company did would NOT be stood for now.

Good but normal extras with it.

Did NOT like when putting the disc in you do NOT go automatically to the menu but to LOUD ADVERTISING MUSIC. NOT GOOD ON ANY DISC&GOES AGAINST WHAT THE THEME OF THE FILM.

The picture quality needs some work. For a "special edition" release the picture quality was dull.

『This has to be a true classic movie for anybody. Parton, Fonda, Tomlin play the three main characters set in a big business office block, "Consolidated". Dolly Parton is excellent, portraying the country girl, Jane Fonda as the divorced housewife's first job role, and Lily Tomlin as the bosses stepping stone. The film is full of one line crack jokes which can be missed on the first time you watch it. Do watch the movie a few times, and soon you'll pick up on how funny the lines are "Violet, did you get my Memo?", "I did Roz, I tore right through it". Later in the film the plot is well underway and animation is combined successfully with Tomlin's scene of a Snow White type character! I loved this film, and my laserdisc copy is always on the top of the pile. A good all rounder to be watched over and over, and I sometimes find myself using those punch lines. Dolly Parton provides the "9 to 5" opening music, which sets the movie off to a good pace.』

I found the movie started off kind of slow but got it's footing after about 40 minutes and didn't let up afterward - great fun, and you get to see Dolly Parton at the height of her career in all her glory - and it is glorious! Nice personality too. Seriously!』

What's on the "Sexist, Egotistical, Lying Hypocritical Bigot Edition" DVD of one of the more enduring comedies of the 1980s? The cast were obviously delighted for the opportunity to travel down memory lane, providing a commentary. Dolly Parton and Lily Tomlin recorded their bits in one city while Jane Fonda recorded hers simultaneously in another city, as they watched the movie again together. The three leads--one, Parton, a rookie actress--made for a well-balanced comedic team whose friendship has endured off-screen for 25 years, a friendship that comes across in their banter. A "Nine At 25" featurette finds the cast and producer dishing such tidbits as the fact Parton came to the set having memorized the entire script, everyone else's parts included. A "9 to 5" karaoke feature may entertain depending on how many drinks one has had at the office party, but the words don't always seem in sync with the music.

To celebrate the release of this edition of9 to 5, the cast, sans Dabney Coleman, reunited in Los Angeles for a party in which Dolly sang the theme song, memories were shared, and actresses dressed as '80s office workers acted busy in cubicles and reception desks.
