(Mi-Sex album compilation)

(Classic from the '80's is Back in Print!!!)
Some dubious mastering on this CD. The sound is very thin, could be software compression, and on some tracks (Blue Day in particular) the mix seems to be a mono sum of one stereo track because some key instruments and licks are very faint or missing entirely. Most likely because they were panned to one track of the original stereo mix - the track missing off this master!

The whole CD sounds like a bunch of highly and poorly compressed mp3's but better than nothing if you can't find a genuine master.

Space Race was a classic album when it was released back in the '80's. Fans of The Fixx, early Simple Minds, and Classix Nouveaux should relate well with this cd. This is synth tinged guitar New Wave. Mi Sex was a New Wave/New Romantic band from New Zealand that had a few hits " Space Race" and "Computer Games". I had both of these albums on vinyl and am quite happy to see these re-released on compact disc. For more info go to www.allmusicguide.com
Named after the Ultravox song "My Sex," this New Zealand/Australian-based new wave rock band had hits with the singles "Computer Games" and "Space Race." This CD contains the band's second and third albums, both originally released by Epic in 1980.
With roots in the punk&art-rock movements New Zealand group Mi-Sex created their own brand of new wave. In 1979 the single 'Computer Games' topped the Australian charts&went on to become an international club hit. Two of the Mi-Sex's original Epic Records albums, both originally issued in 1980, are now available on one compact disc. Features 21 tracks including 'Graffiti Crimes,' 'Burning Up'&the hypnotic 'Computer Games', to name just a few of the featured new wave dance tunes. Collectables. 2003.

(Thanks for the SEX)

(So much fun)

(Sexy and Fun)

(Awesome Retro Music)

(Excellent!)
Hal Lifson has done it again. This is a great trip down memory lane. I have so many visuals to the songs. Fran Jeffries singing Sex and the Single Girl....Edie Adams doing Big Spender with a cigar. Noxema and Take It All Off made me want to shave at the age of nine. And then there is Ann-Margret....is there anyone better? I say NO!!! Hal - this might sound corny - but Thanks For The Memories
This compilation reminded me how much fun music can be. The songs really seemed to raise my energy level and I found the whole CD a great workout accessory. I also enjoy it while relaxing. Some of the songs are familiar--others seemed more obscure but still catchy and definitely a reminder of the 60s.
This is one of those CD's where you will scratch your head remembering tunes and commercials from the 60's. Some you will never have heard before, as they were never released in the states, others were minor hits, and then there are the blockbusters, such as "Goldfinger." "Girl Don't Tell Me," by Sandy Shaw, "Come and Stay With Me," by Jacke DeShannon, and the Bob Crewe stuff are particular standouts. Add to this mix these zany, sorta sexy commercials and voila, instant party classic for swingers of all age. I got a big kick out of this record. It is fun and amusing, and kinda sexy.

I just got this CD as a birthday gift, and I love it. Not too much notalgia for me -- I'm only 26! -- but tons of great songs I'd never heard before. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes sixties music!
There's not much more to say other than I have over 1500 cds, and this is the one I find myself listening to over and over. It's fun, nostalgic and well-worth repeated listening. Could there be any higher praise?
Sex and The '60s includes first time releases of 60s classic movie and TV themes such as: Barbarella (staring Jane Fonda), The Swinger (starring Ann Margaret), Sex and The Single Girl (starring Natalie Wood), The Girl From U.N.C.L.E. (starring Stefanie Powers). Also features the sexy purr of Barbara Feldon on her only Get Smart tie-in single "99," and the rare debut single "Over and Over" by '60s fashion sensation Twiggy.

(Informative and thought provoking)

(Great for biology classes!)
Professionally done, interesting, informative.
Various topics include lizards, fish, birds, monkeys, and humans.
Why are males necessary if some organisms have females who reproduce without males? This suggests there is an evolutionary survival aspect to having males and females. The answer seems to be that evolutionary variability gives a defense against rapidly evolving diseases. The selection of mates is related to evolutionary survival. The dedication to the next generation is an evolutionary survival trait. The variability in selecting mates who display health, or display social helpfulness is explored, including some subconscious functions in humans.
The evolutionary story of why chimps are abusive and war-like whereas the bonobos are generally peaceful and make love, not war although they are close genetic relatives is an interesting construction.

It is educational on the biological nature of humans.
It speaks at a very basic biological level of the benefits of socialization in the question of war and peace.
It addresses an understanding of the evolutionary function of gender roles and violence against females.
It could engender discussions of implications of evolution in the question of social evolution to create social structures to promote peace and justice. For example: If the scientific and social means of conducting war are evolving into more lethal and dangerous forms, similar to a bacteria or virus; then does that call for using mental capabilities to evolve social and scientific means of countering war and injustice as a means of survival of the species?
The movie openly portrays evolution as valid and explanatory and so helps promote acceptance of science, as a counter to superstition and ignorance on this subject.

This video is great for both evolutionary descriptions and for the importance of sex in creating diversity in populations. It is quick moving , very interesting and has lots of good science - animal behavior, evolution and reproduction. I highly recommend it along with others I have seen in this series for use in high school and basic college science classes and for personal viewing.
In evolutionary terms, sex is more important than life itself--without progeny, we are evolutionary losers. Sex fuels evolutionary change, by adding variation to the gene pool and eliminating unsatisfactory traits. We look at the endless variety of sexual expression and the powerful hold sex exerts over all living things. And we explore how the need to pass on our genes has shaped our own bodies, minds, and lives. Some scientists believe that art, literature, music--in fact all of human culture--may be the ultimate result of our sexual drives.

(very pleasantly surprised)

(Dolphina)
I read some of the other reviews on this dvd, and was expecting ... maybe a dud ... but I was pleasantly surprised. I don't find Dolphina's references to religion, chakras, or any of the other less-than-commercial ideologies to be detrimental - more her personal view of the inner workings of the dance. I enjoyed it, and found it to be well planned and beautifully presented. Some of the production values - sound, and camera angles, could have been better... (sometimes you can't see her feet, for a move, sometimes the crashing ocean makes her words difficult to hear), but overall I found it to be an excellent value, an enjoyable session, and probably a lot more akin to the dances of our ancient mothers, in character, than some of the Raqs Sharqi instructionals structured in discipline like a modern ballet class.

Teru

I have to admit Dolphina is quite the character but once you get past her random references to chakras, past lives and exercises that make,"magical things happen" you realize that it's a pretty ok DVD. It has a warm up, exercises, routines and a cool down. It adds a little spice to what would normally be boring and mundane squats, lunges and ab work but because you're dancing and focusing on your body's movements, you're less aware of the burn you feel when you get a good work out. It's not incredibly intense but some dances are challenging and I'm thinking, Dolphina slow down -like when she just goes off the deep end shimmying into oblivion. You get better each time you do the dvd, you are exercising but it's fun.
More than a mere body workout, The Goddess Workout is for the body, mind and spirit. Dolphina brings a new exercise program to women craving an innovative, exciting and fun way to obtain a total body workout. A descendent of Bulgarian gypsies, Dolphina has studied and crafted the art of Bellydance her entire life. She now translates her dancing know-how into the fitness world. Dolphina provides a creative cardiovascular exercise routine that increases flexibility while toning and contouring your body.

(true love: being wrapped in a warm blanket)

(Sex Drugs,&Democracy -or- Why am I still here?)

(Enlightening!!!)
I felt a pull to go to the video store, and this is the video that called me there.

It is a warm and fuzzy video about true (brotherly) love. It shows how the wisdom that was started out of America made its way only to the Netherlands. Out of the whole, ENTIRE world, perhaps the Netherlands is the only place where the Dalai Lama wouldn't mind living.

I almost cried while watching. The prostitutes are cared for and treated like human beings. Women are taught how to box, and their championship boxer (female) says,"I always box with men. They're pretty good.":-D

--But the most touching thing I saw in it was that people (the govt.) actually drive around, handing out clean needles to addicts. --Wow! What love! I have never heard of such a mature society before!

As the Dutch say repeatedly in the movie,"If you ignore the problem, it's only going to get worse. These people are going to die."

Kishan
I first saw Sex Drugs and Democracy 6 years ago, in Canada, upon it's initial release. When it was over I wondered how quickly I could get from the movie theatre to the airport. Six years later, after watching the film for the second time, my wife and I wondered how quickly we could get to the airport from our bedroom. This is a movie about FREEDOM. This is a movie about FREEDOM and CIVILIZATION and RESPONSIBILITY and FEARLESSNESS. And WISDOM. It is wisdom born out of a common sense notion about what human beings need to reach their individual and communal potential, as well as a refreshing trust in their ability to acheive that potential without creating chaos. In the USA we give freedom lip service. In Holland Freedom is a solid thing to be touched by all. This movie is REVOLUTIONARY. After watching it you'll know why Blockbuster doesn't carry it. And, after you have watched it, been turned on by it, you too will ask: Why am I still here?
It is extremely difficult to review a video(especially one such as this) in merely a few words. On the surface this a documentary that unfolds the social and political structures that make Holland what it is from both a fundamental historical perspective and a modern day to day perspective as told through interviews with every kind of person you can imagine. As far as what I got out of this video...All I can really say is that I found this documentary to be enlightening in the fullest sense of the word. The video watches like a 'how to succeed in running your country' manual...and watching this video will convince you that the Dutch have it down pat! I believe that everyone would like to change (fix?) the world and this video serves to add fuel to that fire within. Anyone with the slightest interest in how society, the world and people just getting along works should watch this...you will be pleasantly enthralled and in the process discover that there is hope for the world yet!

(A great adult film)

(This movie was made almost 20 years ago and all the female)

(Social commentary degenerates into middling horror pic)

(Excited!)

(Like "Click" for girls!)
All four great actors do a great job with a great movie. One of the best dark comedies to come out of Hollywood.
actors look almost the same, hows that for witchcraft and a good plastic surgeon. Jack, however, hasen't faired as well, but he'll always be the devil to me. He's just so good in every movie he does. My favorite line in this movie was, Jack was having tea with Susan Sarandon, she was explaining to him that the estate he just bought had a dark history about
witches, Jack scoffs at this and says, " The whole witchcraft scare was invented by the male medical profession that wanted to get midwifes out of the child birthing business" Made a lot of sense to me. Enjoy!

Three frustrated single women (Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfeiffer) inadvertently call forth the Devil (or a devil) in an idyllic small town. The entire cast is very good, with Jack Nicholson being an especially inspired choice as the satanic Daryl Van Horn. Veronica Cartwright also stands out as the town busybody. The film is most interesting in the beginning, as it appears that we will be watching a sly criticism of conventional morality, but the script quickly goes astray. It appears as though Cartwright is intended to be an intolerant Phyllis Schlafly type, but that doesn't really work since she becomes the victim of magical forces from the instant Daryl enters town, making her a very sympathetic figure instead. We should have been given an opportunity to revel along with the three friends in the break from conformism that their unconventional relationship with Van Horn provides, but since we viewers are aware that Van Horn is actually persecuting Cartwright's character without provocation, they merely come off as ignorant dupes of a duplicitous male instead of examples of female empowerment. By the end of the movie, we are watching a very conventional (though not scary) horror film as the three women try to send the devil back where he came from. I haven't read John Updike's novel, which was the source for the screenplay, but it is difficult to imagine that the film is an accurate dramatization of his themes.
I had to look a while to find a copy of this movie, thanks Amazon!
This is an entertaining movie, unless you know several girls who are under the impression you are Satan, then you might want to not let them see it. They'll probably see it anyway. Girls are resourceful like that. If they do, do your best not to act like Satan and you should be ok.
Three single women in a small new england town conjure up a rich stranger who grants them their innermost desires. Studio: Warner Home Video Release Date: 08/01/2006 Starring: Jack Nicholson Cher Run time: 122 minutes Rating: R
Jack Nicholson was born to play the devil, and in George Miller's adaptation of John Updike's novel he plays it for all he's worth. As a wolfish womanizer summoned by three bored women in a picturesque New England town, he's sating all of his appetites with a rakish grin. Cher, Susan Sarandon, and Michelle Pfeiffer play the women who discover their untapped magical powers by accident. The smart and sexy singles, out of place in the conservatism of their village, find happiness, however briefly, in the arms and bed of the libidinous devil, but he's got his own ulterior motives. Miller revels in the sensual display of sex, food, and magic, whipping up a storm of effects that finally get out of hand in an overblown ending. It's a handsome film with strong performances all around, but the mix of anarchic comedy and supernatural horror doesn't always gel and Miller seems to lose the plot in his zeal for cinematic excitement. The performances ultimately keep the film aloft: the hedonistic joy that Nicholson celebrates with every leering gaze and boorish vulgarity is almost enough to make bad form and chauvinism cool.--Sean Axmaker

(OOH, I wish I had that power!)

(um...)

(Psuedo-porn and no real horror)

(Verry good film... from a bold concept.)
Absolutely excellent independent horror/dark comedy!
It was much better than I had expected (I was expecting a low budget campy flick) and was actually quite hilarious

The story is about a teenage girl who is totally into purity and remaining abstinate and even promotes a club called *Promise* for preteens in which kids pledge their premarital abstinence by wearing a ring. Early in the film, she meets a young man in the Promise Club who fires up her dormant libido and gets her thinking some impure thoughts. What ensues gets ugly when the two end up at a lake. In this scene, the young man's libido takes over and the real reason for Dawn's abstinence becomes apparent; she has a set of shark-like teeth hidden in her vagina which engage any time she's being mistreated, chopping off certain male appendages. She eventually turns the deformity to her advantage and uses it throughout the film to get her revenge on all the males who disrespect her.

The film never crosses over into gritty exploitation but is definitely not for everyone.

A+++++++++

I have been hearing so much about this wild, cult-like film for a while. My Amazon buddies Blackshere, Puzzlebox, Jenny and Tantrum raved about it and enticed me to watch it. Wow, I'm glad they did!

I wouldn't call this a horror film (except if you're a guy) but a kind of weird comedy with a twist.

What a concept---a girl that has teeth down below! Dawn, a prim virgin high school girl, knows she is different, because she has vagina dentata. At first she doesn't know how to control it, but she soon perfects her wonderful gift. Dawn then uses her magic powers to hurt the men who hurt her. This gets good!

I know a lot of us women would like this power!

This movie was fairly well filmed and never got boring. There were a few good comic scenes---like what a Rotweiller won't eat and a real dirty old man.

All in all it's a fun film to watch. Grab some popcorn, no hot dogs this time!

this movie was out there which i believe is the reason i liked it. a vagina with teeth out to get all the men that wrong her. theres moments where your thinking they wont show that but yep then they do. to me its an outlandish idea that seems to work. i esp. like the ending which to me does justice for the film although you can kinda see it coming to that.
I bought this used from a local store after finding out it wasn't available to rent. The story line sounded interesting. It turns out to be almost rookie-level filming, thin story line, vague insinuations (like them living near a prominently shown nuclear power plant), and then the obligatory boob shot of a teenager. Almost as scary as an infomercial, I'm glad I only spent $5.
Finally someone got the courage to make a film about such an unusual subject: a girl with a toothed vagina. And interestingly enough, almost everything on this movie seems to click.

Dawn is a girl living in a small town (close to a nuclear power plant). She is a virgin and just met this guy who seems perfect. Until one day he tries to rape her and... Terrified with the episode, Dawn goes to a gynecologist who feels she is just an ignorant teenager and decides to abuse her. Bad move. As Dawn learns more and more about herself and her sexuality, she discovers she is unique... and no one will take advantage of her.

The screenplay is beautifully written and the acting is superb. Every character here shows a superior casting work.

But the most interesting element in this film is the clear critique to the blind puritanism and ignorance found in some parts of America. It is not by mere chance that Dawn belongs to those movements who advocate celibacy (using a red ring on her finger)... or that a simple model of the female reproductive system on a school book is covered by a large sticker by determination of the school board... or that some students mock the example of evolutionism given by the teacher...

So Dawn goes from incident to incident while trying to understand herself and her sexuality... until she fully realizes all the idiocy and hypocrisy of world full of people who are even freakier than her.

A truly unique film with a beautiful message.

A coming-of-age tale with a twist,Teethtakes a novel approach towards teen sexual angst. Sunny blonde Dawn (Jess Weixler, a Meryl Streep in the making) promotes abstinence at her high school. Her mother (Vivienne Benesch) is terminally ill, her half-brother (Nip/Tuck's John Hensley) is a tattooed sociopath, and her stepfather (Lenny von Dohlen) does what he can to keep the household together. When Dawn meets doe-eyed transfer student Tobey (Hale Appleman), her celibacy vow is put to the test. Simultaneously, she starts to realize her anatomy differs from other girls. Though Dawn's Austin environs recall the serene suburbs ofDonnie Darko--except for the ominous smokestacks behind the family's ranch house--her secret power brings her closer in line withCarrie. It's a particularlyfemininecapability. When Carrie felt threatened, she used her mind as a weapon. In Dawn's case, a certain physical anomaly comes into play: the vagina dentata of ancient mythology (Camille Paglia, author ofSexual Personae, served as a consultant on the film). At first, Dawn has no control over the situation and, like De Palma's anti-heroine, she's horrified. But actor-turned-director Mitchell Lichtenstein (Ang Lee'sThe Wedding Banquet), son of artist Roy Lichtenstein, ends his debut on a very different note. Along the way, there's satiric humor, squirm-inducing gore, and a star-making turn from Weixler, recipient of a special prize at Sundance for her "jaw-dropping performance."Teethis neither anti-male nor anti-female--as some detractors have claimed--but it's definitely not for the squeamish or irony-impaired.--Kathleen C. Fennessy
