customer 's review (not the best choice)
(Timeless Fun)
(Not Good) I gave this to my fiance for Christmas, who loves Sudoku and video games, so I thought it would be a brilliant combination. He was excited, but has been frustrated by how not easy it is to play. He can't always tell where the cursor is on the board, so if he sets it down for a minute, he can't see where's he's left off. Then when he was playing in the semi-dark while we were on a train, he couldn't see anything either (backlight would be a nice feature). It just seems this model is not designed very intuitively: he keeps wanting to press clear to change a number, but it clears the game. all that to say, 2 million puzzles sounds great...unless it's too frustrating to play! I purchased this product as a Christmas gift and it was greatly appreciated. I give it five stars (actually a suggestion from my granddaughter for whom it was purchased), but I am a little disappointed that it did not come with a stylus. Prior to purchase I had phoned customer service to make sure that it did come with the stylus and was assured it did. Unfortunately that was not the case. It was too late for me to return the item and choose one with a stylus as it was very close to Christmas. However, it is always enjoyed by my granddaughter. This particular Sudoku handheld was not as expected. It has only basic functions and the person I purchased for said it is easier just to do Sudoku on line or in the newspaper or in a puzzle book. Really inconvenient functions. May be good for young children, but not adults. The Sudoku Plus is chic and stylish, a portable electronic handheld that will impress everyone who happens to see you play. The directional arrows are on the left hand side of the handheld. Meanwhile, the numbers are conveniently located on the right hand side of the handheld. Play on the go whether it's at the coffee shop, subway/train ride to work, or at the comfort of your own home. Ernest and Emma Bear can change their moods by switching their clothing and faces. Each puzzle includes 18 wooden pieces packed in a beautiful 6" wooden box with a lift off lid. Learning the complex skill of expressing and understanding emotion is just one of the tasks at hand in this cozy 18-piece puzzle box. Children complete Emma the Bear from ears to paw, by giving her one of six mood faces (pleased in one, worried in another), as well as a virtual buffet of outfits. Usually ships in 24 hours customer 's review (Good, but barebones, Sudoku compilation)
(I purchased this item by mistake) If you're looking for the equivalent of a huge paperback Sudoku book, this is the game for you. And if you want over 1000 puzzles, this is also the game for you.
Dr. Sudoku is a simple and barebones Sudoku game for the Game Boy Advance (and Nintendo DS), which, as mentioned, is quite simple. The game has 1000 puzzles, split among 20 levels, that range from the easy to beat, to the mindboggingly difficult. I've owned this game for several months now and I've only been able to defeat 150-ish puzzles so far.
The game also includes a simple edit mode (called Original Mode) where you can create your own puzzles. Also, if you're stumped with any puzzle you're playing, you can start over from the beginning or quit the puzzle so you can continue later.
The only two flaws with this game are that you can only save one custom puzzle at a time, and the game does not save your clear times for each puzzle you clear. Other than that, if you want a good Sudoku compilation without any extra fluff, you should get this. It costs about the same as three or four Sudoku books, has hundreds more puzzles, and you don't have to deal with using an eraser to fix your mistakes. This game was a gift and it was returned because it was purchased for an Nintendo DS, and I thought it was a game that was only for the DS. Dr. Sudoku lets you enjoy the hottest new puzzle phenomenon from Japan. Sudoku like a math problem, but is in fact a twisting puzzler. The rules are simple: start with a grid consisting of nine three-by-three squares in which some of the numbers are already supplied. Fill in the blank squares so that each column, row, and three-by-three grid contains a number from 1 to 9 with none repeated. It may sound easy but it takes forever to master! customer 's review (HORRIBLE installation and the game playing isn't that great!)
(A disappointment) The installation is slow for such a small simple game as it goes through some sort of verification procedure in which it told me I had errors but loaded anyway. Once I was playing the game it's slow going because you do have to click on the actual number to input it. I didn't have grid line problems like the other reviewer but I found it hard to focus because of the way it highlights both row and column per axis point. It's disconcerting if you aren't used to thinking about the grid that way. The hint feature isn't a hint it's more like it will just do it for you. Also you can't get rid of the hint's input. So if you thought it would give you options or highlight a row or column then think again.
My main complaint however is that it will not allow you to play it without having the original CD in the drive. No matter what. I like to play music in my CD drive while playing games but I guess in their quest to make sure no one cheats them out of one cent my music or any other use I have for the CD drive is just not important. I feel totally ripped off by the company and will attempt to return the game. It got one star because you can actually play the game. I am addicted to Sudoku, play online a lot and buy the books. This was my first CD purchase and I am very disappointed in it.
First, you can't just type in the numbers, you have to click on a number on the side of the grid and then click on a square to put it there. It's a very slow way to play and distracting. It's especially annoying as I keep forgetting to click the number and end up putting the wrong number in the grid. I suppose with more play I would get used to it, but I'm not really sure I want to bother.
Second, Sudoku grids need to have clean lines and be easy to read, and this isn't. I spend far too long trying to locate the numbers I have already entered. This doesn't happen with the online games I have played.
I think it must be a memory hog as it runs quite slowly and jerkily at times, my mouse overshooting a square quite frequently. Maybe someone with a newer computer wouldn't have this problem.
There's also no way to reset the statistics or edit users, or to pause a game so the timer stops while you answer the phone, etc.
It does have some good points, lots of games and several different levels, but overall I was very disappointed. The Sudoku Challenge Unlimited- the latest puzzle craze sweeping the globe! (The Best Sudoku Book for Young Kids)
(Highly recommended) I wanted to try to learn how to play Sudoku to keep my mind sharp. I tried in the past to learn and couldn't. I bought Sudoku puzzle magazines by Dell and Penny Press but couldn't figure out the rules on how to play.
I wanted to try to find a simple easy to understand book that had rules that i could make sense out of. I bought three including Sudoku For Dummies which was not much of a help and one with grids that had the alphabet around it. Again no help at all. Wasting all that money i almost gave up until i had and ingenious idea. Knowing that it's hard for me to learn certain things i decided i wanted to get a book that was written for children. That's when i found Kindergarten Sudoku.
I'm 50 years old and hesitated to buy a child's book but i figured i wanted the simplest easiest one i could find. Children learn from simple formats so i took a chance. I love this book. I was able to do 25 puzzles by the end of the day. By the end of the week i could do a Penny Press puzzle magazine with 9 grids. I was amazed. The rules are simple and they give you example puzzles to show you how its done.
They use numbers 1-4 then you work up 1-9. The book outlines the puzzles for you from easy to hard. There is also shapes and alphabet puzzles. I prefer the numbers but what i like is it's so easy to understand that if i forget how to do it, i just look at the book at a puzzle i did or do and easy one and it comes back to me.
If you ever wanted to learn how to play Sudoku but can't understand the rules, then get this book. You'll be doing them in no time and by the end of the week you'll be playing like you always knew how. I highly recommend this book for adults as well as for children. It's nice to find a book that explains it in plain simple english and really shows you how to do it. I give it 5 stars! This is great for my 5 year old boys since they prefer number puzzles. Unlike other sudoku books for kids, this one has only 4X4 grids and uses only numbers. It also has different levels of difficulties. The book is great for young kids. It is the only Sudoku book that I know of that has solely simple 4x4 puzzles. Although the puzzles are categorized as Easy, Medium, and Difficult, most of them are simple and easy to solve. Smart 4-year olds have solved many of the puzzles in the book. Children of 6 years of age solved most of the puzzles while 8-year olds can solve all the puzzles.
I strongly recommend this book for children as well as adults. One distinct feature of the book is the variety of Sudoku puzzles that are included. It even contains Sudoku puzzles with pictures of animals - dogs, cats, and fish.
This is a book containing Sudoku puzzles for children in kindergarten - ages 4 - 8 years and up. All the puzzles in the book are 4 x 4 Sudoku puzzles designed specially for these children in mind. Sudoku rules are easy - each number 1, 2, 3, and 4 must appear only once in each row, column, or block. There are 80 puzzles in the book categorized as follows: 48 Classic Sudoku, 8 Alphabet Sudoku, 8 Shape Sudoku, 8 Symbol Sudoku, and 8 Animal Sudoku. In addition, there are 7 example puzzles that are solved in a step-by-step manner. The puzzles are of three types - Easy, Medium, or Difficult. The solutions to all the puzzles in the book are available at the end of the book. The book has a website at www.KindergartenSudoku.com where you can download and print additional puzzles like the ones in the book. Rerations < Kindergarten Sudoku: 4x4 Sudoku Puzzles for Kids >

(Good for beginners, not very difficult)
(Not my favorite)
(Good, but not the same)
(Duplicate gift) This is great. It's challenging, but worth the effort to learn how to solve these puzzles. I'm having great fun with this book of puzzles. After reading some of the reviews, I decided to purchase this book. Like most people, I am addicted to these pixel puzzles but this book was just way to easy. Almost like a waste of time if you are very experienced. For a beginner, all the puzzles are introductory. For advanced people, I would suggest Paint-doku (Puzzles). This is by far the best and most difficult book that I have tried. I love Nintendo's Picross and wanted some paper versions of the grid puzzles for airplanes and for more puzzle variety. I purchased this book along with paint by sudoku, and have to say I prefer the other book. This one isn't bad though, the puzzles are arranged one on a page with cute titles that hint at the final picture, and are rated easy to hard in ascending order. I haven't gotten past moderate level puzzles yet but so far I'm unimpressed with the pictures. The easy puzzles are relaxing and fun to do, but I've had to look up the answers several times just to find out what thing it is that I just drew and make sure I did it correctly. I got this because I fell in love with Paint by Number puzzles in World of Puzzles magazine. This just isn't the same. The puzzles are too large, making it such a chore to fill in all the squares. It's a fun game, though, and at least the puzzles are interesting. I had given this puzzle book to a woman who is an ardent sudoku puzzle worker of hard puzzles. She liked the book. I wanted to give her another book of these puzzles. However, it was the same book. After so many months, I expected a new book would have been published. but no. My fault, I guess and a disappointment. Imagine finishing a Sudoku puzzle and getting a picture of a cat, fireworks, or even a movie star, instead of a box of numbers. That's what happens when you finish an O'Ekaki puzzle! Once you start filling in those squares, you won't be able to stop. It's the puzzle game millions of fans aroudn the world can't get enough of. (My daughter loves it!) This is a great book on Sudoku for kids. The book includes 162 puzzles. The puzzles are of various sizes: 4x4, 6x6, and 9x9. The solutions are at the end of the book. There are no categories or levels of difficulty for the puzzles.
There are no pages in this book for strategy, hints, rules, or tips. The book has various types of puzzles like Classic Sudoku (with numbers), Alphabet Sudoku (with letters) and Symbol Sudoku (with shapes and symbols). For a book that is dedicated to simple 4x4 puzzles, check the book "Kindergarten Sudoku".
My 6-year old daughter got this book for Christmas after begging to do the puzzles in my book all the time. She loves doing the puzzles, even though the 4-square/easy ones are a little too easy for her. However, the easy ones were a good way for her to understand the concept behind the harder ones. Very nicely put together, using letters, numbers&shapes. The coolest puzzle craze that's all the rage! Fill in the grid so that every row, every column, and every 3x3 box contains the digits 1 through 9. It's fun, challenging and addictive! Rerations < Super Sudoku for Kids >
