(This Game is GREAT!)

This is so much fun. We brought it to a family party this spring, and everyone loved it. What was great about it was that everyone could play it and did. Everyone would gather around and watch the game...

It seems so simple, yet when you start playing, it is not so simple to win. Loved that the entire family could play, from 88 year old grandpa to 8 year old great grandchild, in fact, they played one another, they tied.. grandpa won two and she won two.. they were going for the tie breaker, but the rest of the family wanted to play, so we had to agree to let them settle the score another day.

We all had a blast with DAO... I'll be getting more of these for the rest of the family.. soon!

(Djape creates the best killer sudoku puzzles)

I have all of Djape's Killer books. Check his website [...] for his daily puzzle creations. Since discovering the killer Sudoku variant, I have abandoned the traditional "vanilla" Sudoku. The killers are far more interesting, challenging, rewarding ... and addicting. And Djape publishes the best killer puzzles IMHO.

If you enjoy solving logic puzzles and you'd like to sharpen your mental arithmetic skills, then these are the puzzles for you. These puzzles are similar to Classic Sudoku in that you have to place the numbers 1-9 uniquely in each row, column, and box. The difference is that a Killer Sudoku puzzle is also covered with dotted outline "cages", each of which has a number that indicates the sum of the numbers within the cage and the numbers within the cages must also be unique. There are many techniques that can be used to solve these puzzles, and discovering them is half the fun.

This book contains a two-page Introduction, three pages on "How to Solve a Killer Sudoku", a one-page "List of Unique Number Combinations", 50 Easy puzzles, 35 Medium puzzles, 10 Difficult puzzles, 5 Deadly puzzles, and Solutions. The format is one puzzle per page and the puzzles are a good size (3.75" x 3.75").

The "How to Solve a Killer Sudoku" section gives a fairly minimal explanation of some simple techniques. One of the most important techniques (The Rule of 45) is not even mentioned. If you don't figure this one out you'll have a hard time completing a lot of the harder puzzles. For an excellent explanation of Killer Sudoku solving techniques, see Djape's book "Sudoku K (Killer), Volume 1".

In each section the puzzles tend to progress from easier to harder. There are a couple of hard puzzles in the medium section. A couple of the deadly puzzles are slightly harder than the hard puzzles; the others are about the same as the hard puzzles. I would have preferred fewer easy puzzles and more medium and hard puzzles. Overall, I think this is a good book for intermediate solvers and beginners who learn quickly. For advanced solvers who are looking for more of a challenge, check out Killer Sudoku Online. The Greater Than Killer Sudoku puzzles are especially fiendish.

If you thought Sudoku was difficult wait until you try Killer Sudoku! The next step up from normal Sudoku, these killer puzzles use the same grid as Sudoku and require the reader to fill in the numbers 1 to 9 as before. But this time the numbers in the outlined boxes must also all add up to a specific number.

With five difficulty ratings, from 'very easy' to 'deadly', the 100 brand-new Killer Sudoku puzzles in this book will provide a challenge to the most ardent Sudoku addict.

When you get right down to where the rubber hits the road, there are a very limited number of things that one can say about a book of sudoku puzzles.

That said, Michael Mepham's "Jumbo Sudoku Challenge" is a pleasantly diversified set of tantalizing Sudoku challenges. The paper quality is wonderful and stands up to multiple erasures. The oversize format allows for lots of temporary mini-number entries. The variety puzzles such as Killer Sudoku and Samurai Sudoku are plentiful and equally challenging. There are also enough of them that one can actually hone your skills and begin to develop solving strategies that are deeper and more subtle than blunt force. The book's thickness means that right-handed people will encounter some difficulties completing the puzzles on the left hand side of the page and vice versa. But, frankly, that's a minor cavil because adding something like a spiral binding to make the book lie flat would also increase the cost of the book substantially.

I just wish that "hard" consistently meant "hard" and "fiendish" always meant "fiendish". In this case, "hard" seems to mean "mostly hard but some medium" and "fiendish" means "mostly fiendish, but sometimes merely hard". Whatsamatter for you guys? I know you can build fiendishly difficult puzzles! Too bad, that! So I guess what might have been a five-star review is going to have to be limited to four.

This book is misleading and I am extremely unhappy with it. I searched Amazon for Samurai Sudoku and this book came up. The cover displays a Samurai Sudoku so I naturally assumed that the book was a Samurai Sudoku book. But it aint! Out of 275 puzzles, only 50 are Samurai Sudoku - a total waste of money if you are looking for Samurai Sudoku.
I've enjoyed other variations of Sudoku, but this is definitely the hardest. If you're looking for something other than the usual 1 - 9, you'll definitely find them here - but don't expect them to be easy! As the title warns you, this is a challenge. If you want a more gentle introduction I'd suggest Will Shortz's Favorite Sudoku Variations: 100 Kakuro, Killer Sudoku, and More Brain-Twisting Puzzles and 100 Samurai Sudoku Puzzles to get your feet wet and then try to stay afloat in this book!
This is the King Kong of Sudoku books.
I might buy another copy just so I can work them again.

Can't improve much on what above 2 reviewers say. Appealing presentation, good variety of sudoku types, nice big puzzles allow penciling in of possible answers in squares. Similar to Jumbo Sudoku Fusion but eschews the "gentle" category and starts out at intermediate, going to advanced. A hardcore puzzle addict, I keep the Jumbo Sudoku Challenge in the car and Jumbo Sudoku Fusion at home (or vice versa) and am assured of having a fun puzzle at hand all the time. On trips I used to have to take several books with different puzzle types but now this is the only book I need. Highly recommend both this and Jumbo Sudoku Fusion and am hoping Jumbo Sudoku Explosion is built along the same lines.

I play with this game once and a while. All the games are boring. The only game I like is checkers.
I bought this cartridge thinking it might be a good collection of classic arcade and other types of games. Huge mistake! The games are very poorly developed, lack depth or difficulty, or are just plain stupid and boring. Every once in a while I pop this cartridge back in thinking there might be some amusing diversion to be found, but after a few minutes of running through the game selections and playing a few, boredom sets in quickly. The only game that holds my attention for more than a minute is maybe Blackjack, though I'm sure there are better versions out there. Don't bother with this one.
For me it was a waste of money. Was not what I was looking for. But, please do not buy it just because it wasn't for me. It might be what you are looking for.I thought it might have bejeweled on it and it didn't.

The free one from palm has a much better interface but this one seems to have a better game type selection even though it doesn't do that very well either. Since I don't have the ability to see all the options in my head I have to use the subscript features. This one is a little odd but you can set the options to give you a pop up box or direct entry. You can set it to make the subscript selection easy by letting
it "red" out the invalid numbers, or just let it pop all of them.

If you can get Astraware Sudoku you will happier. It isn't perfect either but it
is a good level above this and it is more "fun".

Filao Sudoku is a functional version that I could see using if I was working a tough newspaper game (like many you can enter you own puzzle) and solve or let it solve for you.

Summary, for $3 it isn't bad. My CD was scratched due to the center clip not being well built and during shipping it came loose. Didn't destroy any data so just annoying in my case. I would have been upset if I spent more than $10 on this program, especially with the free one you can get from Add-It.
I wasn't sure if I wanted to buy this or not because of the bad reviews but I figured $3 for a game for my phone is worth a try. Once you get used to the keys this game is great. I really don't have too much to say.. but I do think it's worth my $3. It made my wait in the dr's office/pharmacy fun. I was actually mad that the Dr came into the room fast.. I wanted to get a game in.
The display isn't working properly, so I sent an email to customer support. (There's no option to call them - email support only.) They're supposed to get back within 48 hours. 3 days later - still no response.

The previous reviewer is correct. Even for free (plus the S/H charge), it's not worth it.
Palm offers this game this month for free (shipping&handling only), but it is not worth it. It is very difficult to input numbers. There are better versions out there that are much cheaper, even more so than the $7.50 S&H I paid. I do not recommend this game and wished I would have saved my money.
