This is a cruel joke. Even the "easy" puzzles are nearly impossible. I spent some very frustrating hours with my son trying to figure these out. It ended in tears for my child and extreme frustration for me. I'm not a Sudoku fan, but come on! I have a freaking PhD from Princeton and I couldn't figure these out. And it's "for kids"? Substituting colorful animal figurines for numbers does not make it kid friendly.
This toy is awesome. It allows a child to work individually (or with a friend or parent) to develop critical thinking skills.
I happened upon this game at my local major discount chain and picked one up for my four kids. I love Sudoku puzzles and I really loved that this set uses colored animals to completely eliminate the "math-aversion" that so many people get when they first look at Sudoku. Sudoku is a logic puzzle and has nothing to do with numbers. This set comes with six animals (for example, green turtles, yellow dogs, blue rhinos, etc) so you can use the colors only, or the animals only to solve the puzzle. I imagined I would have to spend a lot of time doing the puzzles with my twin 7 year old girls, explaining the logic of not duplicating colors/animals in rows/columns/quadrants, so I was blown away when they immediately took over and solved the first puzzle quite easily! As twins, they really like that they can play solo, since they are often relegated to entertaining each other. My 16 and 12 year old sons also enjoyed the challenges. The pieces are small, but come with a handy storage bag, so I'm pretty sure it will give us a lot of use over time. I am thrilled by my kids' response to this puzzle/game and I highly recommend it to others. The ability to successfully use logic is a great skill to hone, for all ages. This would also be a great set to include in the vehicle for road trips.

(Solid and Entertaining Introduction to Sudoku)

Super Variety Sudoku is an entertaining introduction into the addictive world of Sudoku. The book starts with an introduction on how to play Sudoku and instructions on the other variety of puzzles located in the book. The original Sudoku puzzles are rated from 1-4 stars based on difficulty in relation to the other puzzles in the book. Most puzzles in the book took between 5-30 minutes, a perfect amount of time in my opinion. This book provides a solid introduction to Sudoku and provides some interesting variations on the original Sudoku puzzle. This is a great book for anyone wanting to learn how to play Sudoku. On a side note, the quality of the book is one of the best I have seen yet. The paper handles erasing very well and provides a built in writing surface that can be used when away from a desk or other writing surface.

(The Not So Easy Sudoku!)

(not THAT easy, but still easy.)

This book is definitely not for the beginner. I would rank it at Green Belt level. I recommend "Totally Sudoku" by Penny Press that has mostly easy, and some moderate and challenging puzzles for the beginner.
this is a good book the sudoku in this book can all be done logically and quickly, but i would start with white belt sudoku if you are looking for something that is VERY Easy. but otherwise this is a good buy.
