This is a beautiful Sudoku set. The large tiles have both black and red numbers (a number printed on each side), so you can distinguish which are the fixed numbers that you started out with and the ones you filled in yourself. The small numbered tiles, for trying out number combinations, are kept in a drawer on one side of the game, the larger tiles are kept in a drawer on the opposite side of the game. The drawers have a little groove, so that they open easily. The drawers open smoothly. The recesses on the board hold the tiles securely in place. The wood used to create this set is finished very nicely. You might consider keeping some of the larger tiles in the drawer on the side of the game with the smaller tiles, as this drawer is not as full. I accidently got the drawer stuck, as a tile became wedged between the top of the drawer and the game board. Keeping some of the larger tiles in the drawer with the smaller tiles will avoid this. This Sudoku game is an excellent choice if you are looking for a board version of Sudoku.
This wooden board is good looking and tough. It is great to leave out on the table. One might not need it for the easy games but when one wants to tackle the complicated Sudoku Games, this board is wonderful to have. I have oredered many now becasue I do not want my hubby, children, guests touching MY BOARD. They need their own.
I enjoy the challenge that this game brings. It is stimulating. It's fun,it's durable. I like the two storage drawers that hold all those puzzle pieces.
This Sudoku game was brilliantly designed! Any puzzle can be played on the surface, and it comes with puzzles to get you started. Also includes small thinking pieces that store neatly into the slide-out drawers. My students love to play this, especially in a small group setting where each student can participate in solving the puzzle.
I am very disappointed because I ordered this toy as a present and it came to the person without all of the playing pieces, which is embarrassing. Now accidents do happen but I emailed the company with this mistake. I am still waiting for a response and it has been over 3 weeks. My mother can not use this game because it is missing all of the # 6 tiles. Now you may say that she mixed the 9's and 6's up. However, she only has 10 # 9 tiles so it is the companies mix up. I wish they would rectify this situation soon. I will be returning the present as soon as I can.
This is the nicest wooden Sudoku board game that we have seen. The wood board is beautifully finished with pull-out drawers and comes with 2 sided playing pieces. Players can't resist this addictive strategy challenge, and now we've made it even easier for the whole family to enjoy. This game can be played individually, competitively, as well as in a group setting. Sudoku is recommended by many teachers as an exercise in logical reasoning. Every puzzle has a single, unique solution. Enjoy!

This book offers more challenging puzzles than your average "easy" books. It was great for the addicted!
I bought (and eventually burned) another Sudoku book which had very inaccurately grouped puzzles. It's very first puzzle, supposedly "gentle", was in fact pretty difficult. I got very annoyed with the book.

By contrast, this Will Shortz book seems to have done a good job of ranking the puzzles. It's a very simple book. Well done. I've gotten hours of enjoyment from solving theses puzzles.
This is a nice little book of puzzles. It is as it says it is, easy. Most of the entries have 30+ squares of the 81 with given numbers, so that filling out the remaining squares is a matter of simple logic. Although nothing but the elements of the game are provided as instructions, the ease with which the puzzles are completed helps the beginner learn some of the beginning logic behind doing them. I find I enjoy discovering the "tricks" of finishing these puzzles more satisfying than I would being told before hand what they are. Certainly I learn them more thoroughly by this method, because I have to intuit them; I actually have to understand the "why" behind the manuver. In my opinion this type of learning is inherently helpful in other tasks as well; that it is to say, transferable to ones life settings in other ways--although I have to admit I couldn't tell you specifically how or why. I think getting school age children involved in doing these types of puzzles would be a good idea, since it would help them learn the principles of logical thinking without the pain of word problems.
Not the best Sudoku book I own, but very addicting.
These addictive puzzles are easy to explain - just fill the grid with numbers according to the few simple rules -- but incredibly fun and engaging to complete. You don't need any mathematics knowledge: just supply a pencil and an inquisitive mind. This product's back-lit LCD screen is very readable. I am almost 50 years of age and my eyesight is becoming blurry, but I have no problem with the screen on this electronic Sudoku gadget. Don't expect iPhone-like wide angle of view. For a product of this type and price, I don't want to be that critical. The instructions could stand a lot of improvement. It's not difficult to print a nice sheet of instructions, but it seems the manufacturer chose to skimp on this.
This product arrived in great condition and in a very timely fashion. I have had hours of fun playing with it.
I bought this for my boyfriend and he loves Sudoku. However, he did not like this game because he said it was too difficult to use the screen and it was in a very small font. Pass on this one.

These puzzles are of similar difficulty to the "hard" sudoku that appear in the newspaper on the weekend, perhaps even a little more difficult. Most of the puzzles I've done so far required at least one or two guesses to solve, so be sure to use a pencil for each guess in case it doesn't lead you to the solution. Sudoku is a fun way to pass the time, and I am looking forward to spending lots of time with this collection of puzzles.
I look for Sudoku books with three qualities. First, I want puzzles that have only one solution. If I find a book that includes puzzles with more than one solution I discard it. Two, I want books with grids large enough that I can enter candidates in the cells. Third, I want books with challenging puzzles. Many of the descriptions on Amazon omit such info.

I prefer grids that are about 4½" x 4 ½". The grids in my newspaper are about 3" x 3" (which is tolerable because not many candidates are needed).

New York Post Su Doku Fiendish (Wayne Gould): The puzzles have only one solution; the grids are about 3½" x 3 ½". There are 200 puzzles in this book; 190 "Fiendish," and 10 "Super Fiendish." Gould does not need to make "pencil marks" and assumes the rest of us don't. Hence, small grids for fiendish puzzles.
I have to admit that I do love Wayne Gould's puzzles, which is why I bought this book sight unseen. Being an addict of very difficult sudoku (or "Su Doku", as he calls them), I looked forward to his worst. This is written after solving the first half.

Mr. Gould is of the solving school that thinks marking up the puzzle gets in the way of good solving. He challenges the solver to find his carefully hidden clues, all of which can be found without marking up -- if you have a better memory for numbers than I have. This is great fun, and I appreciate and enjoy the challenge. The downside is that for people who like REALLY hard (grid coloring, logic chains), these puzzles are not fiendishly hard.

I highly recommend this book to those who are trying to learn how to solve very difficult puzzles that can be solved by traditional techniques. It is filled with interesting and varied puzzles, and you will find some much harder than others because they test different solving methods. For an advanced solver, it is certainly much more fun than the average book.

If you want challenge you should get this one. It's real fiendish! However, among the puzzles in the book there are some that are harder and some are a little easier... but still fiendish. I love it. I hope I will be able to find another one this good when I'm done with this one.
I purchased the book for my friend who easily completed puzzles categorized as difficult in booklets found at supermarkets and discount stores. There were never enough difficult puzzles to keep her busy or challenged so much of each booklet was useless. She is delighted with this sudoku booklet and while she can complete the puzzels it does take some time and provides an adequate challenge. She is happy and I am too! Well worth the price.

Su Doku, "the crossword without words," comes with a warning: it is seriously addictive. You don't need to be a mathematical genius to solve these puzzles; it is simply a question of logic and a little patience.

Shortz's Sudoku Easy to Hard # 3: The puzzles have only one solution; the grids are 4½" x 4 1/2", and 25 are "Light and Easy," 25 "Moderate," 25 "Demanding," and 25 "Beware! Very Challenging."
You have to think so it's a good thing and something to entertain and or keep you occupied especially on long trips.
I was challenged and happy with this book of sudoku until I reached the special "Giant Sudoku" section at the end. This section features a 12x12 sudoku grid in which you are meant to fill in the numbers 1-12. However, the initial setup includes the number 13 in all puzzles!

Other than that, the book provides a nice ramp up from easy to challenging.
This is one of the first books I tried when first learning to do Sudoku puzzles. It is an excellent one, with good sized puzzles, somewhat difficult for a novice, but that is the challenge! I would definitely recommend it!
This is an entertaining book. Shortz is the best when it comes to puzzles of any type. I eagerly await future books.
