(Lots of fun - but the math questions are a bit simple...) 『I own both this Battle of the Sexes board game and the original, and I found this one to be just as entertaining as the first. The questions are very similar to those that would be on an actual IQ test. The one thing that disappointed me were the math questions. They seemed extremely simple... one example is "Mary lied to Fred about how much her shoes cost. She told him they were $400, but they were 2.5 times more than that. How much were the shoes?". It seemed too simple - and it was! All of the math questions aside, this is a great brain-teaser game to play as a group.』
(Worst...board game...ever) 『This is by far the worst board game I've ever played, in every way. Don't be fooled by the "IQ" in the title: unless yours is in the bottom 10%, you'll find the questions almost entirely lacking in challenge or interest. This is about the average level: "Fill in the blanks of this holiday classic: 'D-CK TH- H-LLS'".
That isn't to say that there are no challenges to be found in this game: for instance, some of the questions appear to have been translated from English to Chinese and back again. Here's a lovely design feature: there are two sets of question cards, for male and female, which are supposed to be kept separate, but their backs are the SAME COLOR, so if you accidentally mix up the rather large decks, you have to pick through them one-by-one to figure out which are male and female.
1,000 words really don't suffice to convey the awfulness of this game. If you got it for Christmas, don't open it! If you're thinking about getting it for your friends or family, don't! (Unless, of course, you want to send a subtle insult about the recipient's own "IQ".)』

I love Sudoku. And I love the more difficult puzzles. But if you do those at work on breaks or in snatches of time at home, a regular grid makes it hard to record your reasoning. Plus, the more info you try to jot down in the little squares in regular puzzle grids, the messier the puzzle becomes.
If you have to put a puzzle down that you've spent an hour on, the grids on this pad keep track of the numbers you have eliminated. When you get back to work on the puzzle, you don't have to start over. With this pad and a package of erasable pens, you will enjoy tackling the difficult puzzles - and you will be able to invest small amounts of time into solving a Sudoku without having to back-track (i.e."why did I think an 8 couldn't go there????")
With this pad of Sudoku Helper sheets, you transfer the number clues from any puzzle you have onto one sheet. (The puzzle sheets are blank.) Then solve the puzzle on your helper sheet. (Nice idea, but the puzzles have problems) 『Really the only good thing I can say about this book is that it introduced me to a variety of puzzles beyond Sudoku. Being a fan of Sudoku, I was excited to learn about some other Japanese puzzles. I flipped through this book in a bookstore and it seemed like a good purchase, but after having spent quite a few hours with this book I discovered the same problems other reviewers have, e.g. wrong solutions, multiple solutions, repeat puzzles, ambiguous difficulty, etc. It's been an annoying journey with this book.
If you are interested in Masyu, Nurikabe, Kakuro, or Hitori, look somewhere else.』
(Ripoff - not even worth the 'bargain book' price) 『If a harmless puzzle book can be termed a disgrace, this one qualifies. Where to begin? The puzzle ratings (from beginner to diabolical) often seem to have been applied at random. The instructions on the Hitori puzzles are woefully inadequate for beginners, several have non-unique solutions and the printed answers to many others are flat-out wrong. (If you're unlucky enough to own this book, just put a big red X through the Hitori section and save yourself the aggravation.) Several of the Nurikabes also have non-unique solutions, and most are duplicated - presumably the publishers thought we wouldn't notice. No matter how low the price drops on this book, it's not worth it.』

The Masyu were pretty good, but still had a few errors in them. (Great first book for killer soduku.) 『I had never done a "killer soduku" before buying this book and found it challenging and informative. I did every puzzle in the book and could feel the difficulty increasing each section from "lite" to "truly killer". The author seems to dwell on themes until you get them down pat. Which is great for a novice like myself. The tutorial section of the book was great. After finishing this book I am able to do killer sudoku puzzles labeled "diabolical" and "extreme" from other sources. I also took the skills learned from the section on cracking combinations and have been able to apply them to kakuro. This is a great book for someone who wants to learn killer sudoku. I will look for more titles from this author.』

(Good for beginners) 『This book contains a selection of puzzles for beginning solvers of Killer Sudoku, which is a variant on normal sudoku in which the normal 9x9 grid is overlaid by regions demarcated by dotted lines, each with a little number representing the sum to which the numbers in the squares within the region must total. Some of these regions lie wholly within one of the 3x3 boxes on the Sudoku grid; others may span one or more of those boxes.
The book begins with 12 puzzles set in a smaller, 6x6 grid, called "Killer Lite." The remainder of the puzzles are set in 9x9 grids, 15 characterized as "Mild," 33 characterized as "Moderate," 35 characterized as "Challenging," 20 characterized as "Vexing," and 5 characterized as "Truly Killer."
The problem with the book is that these designations appear arbitrary. Most of the puzzles are relatively easy, which belies the sobriquet "Killer Sudoku" entirely. There is no perceptible change in difficulty level as one moves from one category to the next. Indeed, some puzzles designated "Moderate" are equally as difficult, if not more so, than some designated "Challenging." None of the puzzles marked "Truly Killer" remotely fit that designation, and indeed there is little difference among the so-called "Challenging", "Vexing," or "Truly Killer." The author has simply not delivered on his promise of different difficulty levels. In that respect, the book is a big disappointment and so merits only three stars.』
