Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (ALSO MADE IN CHINA) 『I was looking for a chicken/duck dog treat that isnt made in China (most of the popular ones state that they are on their packaging). This one, with its dual French/English labeling and Free Range title, appeared to be a North American free-range organic-type natural product. Especially given the price. But it is NOT, it is also made in China. Upon closer inspection it says this product has no ADDED hormones, antibiotics, preservatives... but it doesnt say the product is FREE OF these additives. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (but he didn't do this one) 『An old felon is taken as the one who robbed the pool hall for petty cash and beer and wine by breaking and entering. He is sent to prison for five years after asking the court to appoint a lawyer and being refused. In current terms he would have been confined for life as it was his fifth felon conviction since he was 14 and broke into a store to get warm clothes in winter. This story is a strange one and it appears some young felons had named him patsy for this crime. After two years in prison he was lucky enough to be chosen as a constitutional law test case. Even more lucky than that, his lawyer won. In the retrial his conviction was reversed, because it seems that he sometimes ran the pool hall and had a set of keys. This movie was one of Henry Fonda's last roles and it showed his liberal life's work to a good light.』
(Outstanding portrail of an imporant piece of history) 『Many "jail" movies spend an inordinate amount of time dwelling on prison life. Instead this movie dives right into the legal battle fought to guarantee all men the right to council (regardless of their ability to pay). Henry Fonda does an outstanding job of portraying Clarance Earl Gideon a small time hood and drifter falsely accused of robbing a bar/pool hall. Jose Ferrer plays Abe Fortas who argued the case on behalf of the ACLU and then later became a Supreme Court associate justice himself.』
(Fonda's Best) 『I've seen most of Henry Fonda's films and this ranks among his very best. He has captured the flawed character of Clarence Earl Gideon like no other actor. This seemingly inconsequential individual who changed the course of American jurisprudence through his appeal to the US Supreme Court for legal representation is portrayed by Fonda so convincingly and so assuredly that Fonda and Gideon become indivisible.
One is equally astonished that the High Court gave such consideration to a relatively minor infraction of the law, and in doing so, gave everyone like the obscure, impoverished Gideon the right to council regardless of their station in life.
As has been stated elsewhere, this film is both an entertaining and informative experience. It is a must see for law students and laymen alike. 』
(A true story the teaches and entertains) 『I've been teaching Political Science classes at various schools in the South for 24 years and I always try to show this film during my section on civil liberties. In a little over 90 minutes students learn how the right to a lawyer in all cases was established, how important this right is, and they are entertained at the same time. Wonderful acting from Fonda, Houseman, and Fay Wray also appeal to film buffs. I'm glad to be able to get it on DVD as my VHS copies are starting to show their age.』
(Gideons Trumpet) 『This is an excellent movie for use with case law readings (Gideon v Wainwright.)It is a bit slow. I think a condensed version would be good. The students might lose the significance of this case. Professor Cavanaugh』 『Anyone who's ever been arrested--or maybe just watched a cop show--knows that the right to representation by counsel is guaranteed by the Constitution, codified in the Miranda warning. But it wasn't until the early 1960s, when the events chronicled inGideon's Trumpetunfolded, that this fundamental prerogative became law. As portrayed by Henry Fonda in this Emmy-nominated 1980 TV movie, Clarence Earl Gideon was neither a hero nor a crusader out to re-write history. He was in fact, a criminal recidivist, a poor drifter with four broken marriages and multiple prison terms in his past. Busted for breaking and entering and petty larceny in Panama City, Florida in 1961, Gideon proclaimed his innocence; but when his demand for a lawyer was rejected at trial (only defendants in capital cases were given court-appointed attorneys in Florida), he was forced to defend himself, resulting in a conviction and a five-year jail sentence. What followed was a matter of luck as well as persistence, as his appeal became one of the few that the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear. Chief Justice Earl Warren (John Houseman, who also executive-produced) assigned Abe Fortas (Jose Ferrer), himself a future Supreme Court justice, to handle the case, and Fortas' skillful work led to the overturning ofBetts v. Brady, a 1942 decision in which the high court had ruled that even indigent defendants weren't entitled to counsel when prosecuted by a state; Gideon's second trial (his claim that double jeopardy applied was rejected), this time with proper representation, is depicted in the final sequences of the film. As befitting the decidedly un-glamorous details of the story, Fonda, who was 75 at the time (the real Gideon was 51) and nearing the end of his storied career, delivers a laconic, low-key performance, effectively depicting a crusty, world-weary, but dignified man who got a raw deal, saw a flaw in the legal system, and fought to correct it. The film, too, is remarkably matter-of-fact: no melodrama, no music to manipulate the viewer's emotions at key moments, just a top-notch cast and a straightforward depiction of the case as described in Anthony Lewis' book of the same name.--Sam Graham』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A Masterful Story that pulls on the heart strings!) 『MY SWEET CHARLIE is a fantastic film that really showcases the talents of Patty Duke and Al Freeman Jr. Patty Duke actually won an Emmy Award for her beautifully innocent work in this picture. The story follows a young pregnant girl as she travels away from home and comes to an old abandoned lighthouse, where she resides until she meets a young black man who is an escaped convict who also decides to hide in the lighthouse. I won't give away too much more, but the two people, through a series of quietly memorable scenes, learn to get over their prejudices and eventually fall in love. You will learn to respect the black lawyer and the adorable teenager throughout the course of this awesome movie. I hope that some DVD company puts this lost gem on a disc someday soon! Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Bleak and beautiful...) 『The unthinkable happens, when a school bus encounters a patch of ice on a road outside a town in rural Canada. Most of the residents are affected in some way. It's all about story and the unfolding of it, and within its genre, I consider this movie a classic. I get cranky when people habitually compare movies to books, for one is not the other, and never shall be. But if you appreciate the work of novelist Russell Banks, I think you'd be hard pressed to order up a more pleasing rendering of the novel. With the movie, you essentially breathe the same air, or at least I did. The same intimate sketches are made of the characters involved. Their relationships, their likes and their animosities, and the way each of them consider the unthinkable development in their lives, are just as beautifully and painfully rendered here, given the medium involved.
The story is simple, but not the people who inhabit that world, or the way they relate to each other. The magic is in the telling and the revealing. If I were limited to a dozen examples of film as art, 'The Sweet Hereafter' would likely be among them. Most of the cast are low-profile, but very talented. The glue that binds the story together, is Ian Holm. He turns in a subtle but unforgettable performance as the lawyer, Mitchell Stephens. He arrives in town seeking multiple clients and expecting to make large settlements. He walks into much more than expected, while at the same time bearing the crushing weight of his own personal torment. The residents of this small town are coping with a collective, unthinkable loss. They suffer together in quiet dignity until legal framework forces them to find, and point toward a cause for their suffering. In spite of great tragedy, a ghostly kind of beauty manages to peek through.』
(The Sweet Hereafter of Bogus Film Criticism) 『'The Sweet Hereafter' concerns the tragic effect of a school bus crash on the townspeople in a rural town. Many critics were afraid to judge the film on its own merits and placed it on a pedestal where they declared such a film "off limits" to any kind of real criticism. Unconsciously the subject matter affected their judgments. Here was a film about a very delicate subject--the death of innocent children. The characters in the film (parents of the deceased children) were all shattered. It was as if criticizing the film was akin to criticizing these parents as well as any parent who had experienced such a tragic loss. But from the point of view of effective drama, the film is virtually a complete failure. Very little of it rings true at all.
Except for some very nice cinematography and an affecting musical score, 'The Sweet Hereafter' plods along at a snail's pace. The director's intent is to display the range of emotions these parents felt in the aftermath of losing their children. But what is so profound about focusing on such grief? The main character, a negligence lawyer, goes around the town convincing the parents to join in a class action lawsuit against the unspecified person or situation which caused the terrible accident. Most of the parents he sees agree to join the lawsuit (a lot of these scenes with the parents are drawn out and could have been easily condensed). The lawyer finally encounters one man who gives him a hard time. This is perhaps the most dramatic conflict that comes up during the film. But this one towns person's opposition to joining the lawsuit is completely vague. Why is he so against joining the lawsuit? Why is so angry at the lawyer? Because he feels the lawyer is profiting at the expense of the townspeople? Even so, is it really believable that he doesn't want to get to the bottom of what happened as opposed to simply dropping the whole case?
The ending of the film is even more unbelievable. The negligence lawyer never seems to have a definitive plan to try the case. He alludes to various factors that caused the accident, such as a faulty guard rail or a defective bolt inside the bus. A real negligence lawyer would never have taken such a huge case in the first place without feeling that he could be successful. It almost seems like he thinks that he uncover the 'truth' during the discovery process. A real lawyer would have already had some tangible evidence (already uncovered) that would have convinced him to go forward. Furthermore, when the young survivor lies in her deposition, stating that the bus driver was driving too fast, the seemingly smart lawyer folds up like a deck of cards and decides not to cross-examine her. A real lawyer could have made mince-meat of her but he chooses to quit the case and leave all his clients in the lurch. In real life he probably would have been hauled in front of an ethics board.
And why does the young survivor decide to lie in the end? Why does she lie knowing that she is accusing the innocent bus driver? Why does she want to case to 'go away'? Is it that she's so traumatized by the accident that she simply wants to forget about it? Everything is left so open and vague in this film that we never understand any of the characters' motivations.
Lastly, there's a lot of lame talk (mostly over the phone) between the lawyer and his drug-addicted, rebellious daughter. Seemingly there's supposed to be some kind of parallel between the lawyer's personal angst and the angst of the townspeople (this is the lawyer's defense when that one townspeople berates him before the climactic deposition scene). All this conflict between the lawyer and the daughter is gratuitous and simply does not work cinematically. We hardly ever see those two characters together and their conflict is basically a separate story which has no real place in this film.
The Sweet Hereafter basically lacks substance. It congratulates itself for displaying the raw emotion of grief but lacks a central antagonist to engage us. An examination of grief in itself is not enough to sustain an entire story. Whenever conflicts do arise in this film, they are episodic, unclearly motivated and for the most part, lacking the ring of truth. If you're strictly into atmosphere and mood, this is the film for you. But if you're looking for a strong story arc with convincing conflicts, you will not find it in 'The Sweet Hereafter'.
』
(3 stars out of 4) 『The Bottom Line:
Overpraised in many quarters, The Sweet Hereafter is a well-crafted look into the lives of people who have had their lives racked by tragedy, but its clinical detachment and an unnecessary incest subplot prevent Egoyan's film from achieving greatness.』
(bone chilling drama at its best) 『The Sweet Hereafter is a film you're not likely to forget anytime soon. The movie portrays human beings as they can really be--greedy, confused after a huge tragic loss, in denial of guilt and more. The plot moves along at a good pace and the storyline is absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately, this movie is not for everyone since the plot is rather haunting and dark; this is anything but a family film. The actors do a superb job and the cinematography is excellent.
When the action begins, an ambulance chasing lawyer Mitchell Stevens (played by Ian Holm) races up to a small Canadian town after a school bus accident has cost the lives of most of the small town's children. Mitchell approaches the townsfolk to build a huge lawsuit against the people whom he believes he can determine to be guilty for having caused the accident. Perhaps the school bus wasn't regularly maintained--or maybe the manufacturer of the bus used poor quality bolts; Mitchell doesn't care, he just wants a piece of the action.
Of course, some embrace the idea of a lawsuit--but yet others want to forget about any trial and they make no bones about it. In particular, look for Tom McCamus who plays Sam Burnell, a father with a dirty secret and Sarah Polley plays Sam's daughter Nicole. While Sam wants the lawsuit to pay medical bills and probably make a buck off this lemon, his daughter Nicole is not so comfortable with this idea. We come to see that so many of the townsfolk have dark secrets of their own; and even the lawyer Mitchell Stevens has a rather troubled relationship with his daughter Zoë (played wonderfully by Caerthan Banks). There is also the very emotionally scarred bus driver who survived the accident, Dolores Discolt (Gabrielle Rose), who eventually makes it plain that she doesn't want to be judged in a court of law by a jury made up of people who don't know her at all.
As secrets and the rest of the plot unfold, questions arise: Will Dolores change her mind about the lawsuit and want it after all? What about the father of two children who saw the tragedy as he followed the bus in his pickup--will Billy (Bruce Greenwood) ever change his mind and decide a lawsuit is a good idea? And what about Mitchell's own relationship with his daughter Zoë--is there any hope for things to get better between the two of them? Keep an eye out for excellent, practically seamless flashbacks and flash forwards that really impress me with just how smoothly they are woven into the film.
The DVD comes with a plethora of extras: we get an audio commentary by film director Adam Egoyan; and there is a Charlie Rose interview with Egoyan as well. I especially liked the "Q&A" extra with several members of the cast. We even get some biographies and filmographies, too.
All in all, The Sweet Hereafter is an excellent film that I highly recommend. Reserve it for a time when you can handle a heavy film about people and how they can truly be when confronted with a seemingly insurmountable loss. You won't regret watching it. 』
(Hauntingly beautiful!!) 『I saw this movie after I had read about it in a list of 100 daring movies. It truly is, in so many ways. The scene with the school bus is one I will never forget. There are many layers to this movie, and I enjoyed them.』 『In synopsisThe Sweet Hereaftermay sound like a devastatingly unpleasant downer, but don't be discouraged. The real subjects of this luminous picture (adapted by director Atom Egoyan from Russell Banks's novel) are hope and renewal--avoiding the cheap emotions suggested by those clichéd terms. Like other Egoyan films (Exotica, for one), it's an intriguing sort of mystery, a puzzle in which the big picture is not revealed until the very last piece is in place. A metropolitan attorney (Ian Holm) travels to a small British Columbian town where 14 children have been killed in a school bus accident to prepare a class-action suit. With sensitivity and empathy, he approaches relatives with promises that the suit will give focus and closure to their grief. And as he investigates the circumstances of the accident, he not only uncovers a few local secrets, but dredges up some painful pieces of his own past. Slowly, deeper mysteries are revealed--eternal mysteries at the very heart of human nature: Who is to blame for a tragedy like this? And why do people feel such a need to assign blame? Is that how they give meaning to otherwise inconceivable events? How does one reassemble a shattered life? The Sweet Hereafteris too honest to offer bromides, but it shows how a few people struggle, as best they can, to answer these questions for themselves. DVD extras include audio commentary by Egoyan and Banks, a Charlie Rose interview with Egoyan, and a panel discussion with the filmmakers.--Jim Emerson』

(A Cult Film composed of sub-plots) 『First of all, Stallone and Winkler both give solid performances as street hoodlums on the verge of manhood. Perry King and Paul Mace are good as well, making this cast quite first-rate.
This film is entertaining as long as one doesn't expect anything that remotely resembles a plot. An amagamation of subplots serves to fill the void, and the film somehow works. It's exactly as billed in the trailer, sung as a doo-wop tune: "The Lords of Flatbush is a movie / About what life was like back in the fifties".
Well, that lyric says it all.
This film will not cure any ailments, but if you want to know what started the careers of Stallone and Winkler, look no further. It's entertaining, quite well acted, and insightful regarding the lives and outlooks of kids coming of age in the late 1950's.

It featured some well know actors such as Sylvestor Stallone and Henry Winkler, whom were unknown at this early juncture in their careers. I decided to buy it since it is a film worth owning. I enjoyed the movie and its stereotypical characters and the fact that it took place in Brooklyn, New York where I grew up, however the quality of the DVD was not good at all. The picture was not well focused and the sound quality was pretty bad. In spite of all this It was not expensive so I will make it a keeper.』
(Great B-Movie - "Happy Days" It Ain't) 『You can't help but see Fonzie when you see Henry Winkler in this film...but Happy Days it ain't.
Don't get me wrong, it is a great little b-movie (even the soundtrack is low budget with original 1970s songs trying to sound 1950s). But this film is not the innocent 1950s that Happy Days portrays. It is a straight, in-your-face look at the juvenile delinquent life--a day in the life of four guys in a gang called The Lords.
These guys get together with girls, fight, disrupt the classroom, and ultimately realize that they eventually have to grow up (or at least Sylvester Stallone's character Stanley does).
If you want a good juvenile delinquent film with familiar faces and cool nostalgia, then go to Flatbush with The Lords!
』 『No Description Available. Genre:Feature Film-Drama Rating:PG Release Date:7-DEC-2004 Media Type:DVD』 『WhenThe Lords of Flatbushwas released in 1974, Sylvester Stallone was still an unknown actor polishing his screenplay forRocky, and Henry Winkler was approaching TV superstardom as "Fonzie" in the first season ofHappy Days. In this modest, low-budget feature, they play second and third fiddle (respectively) to Perry King, whose respectable career, ironically, would never reach such stratospheric heights. As for their costar and diminutive fourth "Lord of Flatbush," Paul Mace appeared in only one more movie after this (Stallone'sParadise Alley), and was killed in a 1983 traffic accident at the age of 33. Such is the random nature of fame and fate.
The movie itself is noteworthy mostly for the pre-stardom appearances of Stallone and Winkler, and a strong costarring role for that most ubiquitous of '70s actresses, Susan Blakely. Despite its amateurish style, muddy sound quality, and rambling scenes that have casual appeal but minimal narrative momentum, the movie is blessed with laid-back authenticity, recognizing the value of awkward pauses and jumpy rhythms of conversation. The ensemble of self-named Lords--four leather-clad rebels in 1957 Brooklyn, moving reluctantly toward adulthood--is solidly cast, and even the most familiar scenes (like making out at a drive-in showingFrom Here to Eternity) ring with engaging truth. Codirector Martin Davidson later covered similar territory inEddie and the Cruisers, and Barry Levinson transcended this shoestring affair with his 1980 classicDiner, butThe Lords of Flatbushstands on its own as an earnest and lightly entertaining drama that boosted its costars to bigger and better things.--Jeff Shannon』

It's not really sticking it to the man if that was what it was intended to do as most similar (related) films are.』
(Disgusting, this is nothing but one long Porno/Running marathon.) 『 The entire movie has no point, and certainly no purpose. What ever "Black Power" message this film was trying to make is lost. You'll find yourself spending most of your time trying to figure out just what in the hell this movie is about. This may have been one of the first "Black Power" movies from the 70's and it's also the worst.
Sweetback pretty much runs through the entire movie, and when he is not running, he is having sex. It only breaks from that cycle to show him beating up a cop or few. The weird thing about this film is that the "Sex" has nothing to do with anything! It's mostly just out of context the entire film. This movie really has no plot. It's actually just Melvin Van Peebles running from the city to the desert.
Watching this movie is like getting high. It's confusing, it makes no sense, and it's just strange as hell. "You bled my mamma, You bled my pappa, but you won't bleed me" get used to that phrase, because that's all you'll ever hear in the back tracking music this entire film. Interestingly enough Earthwind and Fire provided the music for this film, this being one of their earliest gigs. That's probably the only signifigant thing in this film worth taking note of.
I can't even think of a single solitary reason why this is worth watching today. It cetainly is not worth owning. I'm suprised this even made it from VHS to DVD. I mean I don't mind the badly recorded audio or visuals of this film, I expect that. There's plenty of low budget films that look horrible; however, a good low budget film makes up for that with an outstanding storyline. This waste of footage has neither.
I don't care if this is supposed to be a great "Black" accomplishment, this is trash! This is more of a great "Black" embarassment. If your looking for a 70's Black Power flick with a message I highly recommend "Watermelon Man." Now that's a great film.
The only thing this films stands as today is a reminder, that even people with absolutely no talent can produce something that generates them money.』

Bill Cosby even co-financed the film.
Ten years ago, I purchased "Sweetback" on VHS, and I was completely, blown away by this controversial, yet revolutinary, independent Black film. He becomes the target of a manhunt when he kills two cops who beat up a young black activist, and he bounces from hideout to hideout before running for the border, all the while getting more booty than Shaft and Superfly put together. The movie was so inflammatory by conservative industry standards that it was "Rated X by an All White Jury," which the ads proudly touted. The unusual mix of agitprop and exploitation is directed in a jagged style that recalls Godard and set to a funky score performed by Earth, Wind&Fire, which Van Peebles intercuts with chanting Greek chorus-like slogans. Maxwell Klinger, Steve Urkel, and even Jack Tripper's pal Larry Dallas. The Andy Griffith Show got introduced on an episode of The Danny Thomas Show. This DVD set includes the pilot, which ended Season 4 of TAGS. It was actually filmed earlier in the year. The episode also introduced Sgt. Vince Carter, played by the late Frank Sutton. He and Nabors would be the only two regulars throughout the series' run. Ronnie Schell played Duke Slater, but did another series one year. Larry Hovis appeared in several episodes. The late Pete Deuel was another recruit. There are 30 episodes in this first season. Could you imagine a show doing that many now? The platoon starts off in boot camp. After graduation, they get sent to Camp Henderson in California. Ironically, they're reunited with their old DI. He had switched bases on account of a certain recruit. Surprise, it was Gomer! There are several wacky adventures. Gomer may not be the brightest bulb. But he's definitely not the dimmest. At times Sgt. Carter doesn't seem much smarter. Pvt. Pyle's actions may not always be strictly Marine. But they turn out well in the end. How could you not like him? Some of the best episodes involve Gomer with women. His Southern manners come in conflict with Capt. Ironpants. He tipped his hat, instead of saluting her! See what happens when he dates the colonel's daughter. Later he gets another date with her. But his favorite movie star also asked him! Look out! We're treated to his singing and dancing. Thankfully, he didn't record "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" in his Gomer voice. TAGS producer Aaron Ruben oversaw this show. Several episodes were written by TAGS writers. Two were directed by Howard Morris, aka Ernest T. Bass. Many TAGS guest stars also appear in these episodes. Each played different characters. They include Ellen Corby and Gavin Macleod. Another, Don Rickles, later did the series CPO Sharkey with Ruben. I also saw one of the Fun Girls, and Barney's karate instructor. Ironically, the last episode of this season had the actor who played Malcolm Tucker in TAGS' "Man in A Hurry" episode. That one introduced a certain bumbling mechanic. Other guest stars include Mr. Whipple (Dick Wilson) and Cyrano Jones (Stanley Adams). This set improves some on TAGS releases. Besides the pilot, we also get audio introductions to every episode by Jim Nabors. He does commentaries on the pilot and first regular episode. Schell does commentary on the dragonlady episode. Too bad Sutton wasn't still around to share his thoughts. There are some interesting bonus features. Unlike these episodes, they are in color. We see Nabors' cameo on a Lucy Show episode. His program was shot at Desilu studios. The complete "Caught In The Draft" episode can be found on some public domain collections. He wasn't called by his character's name here. A David Frost Show clip has more footage from that famous Marine haircut. Nabors also included a Brothers-in-Law sketch from his variety show. Sutton and Schell also appear. Unfortunately, the other actors weren't identified. My beefs with this set are few. English subtitles would always be nice. I wish that they were required on all English DVDs. A laugh track delete option would have been wonderful. Before doing a spinoff, producers should ask themselves several questions. One, what effect would this character's absence have on the first show? That only applies for regular or recurring characters. Ditto if the first show's not being cancelled. Like many TAGS fans, I consider the shark jump to be Don Knotts' departure. But some fans voted for Nabors' leaving. I do think that Ruben's leaving to concentrate on this series hurt worse. Two, can the actor and/or character carry a series on his or her own? Thankfully, the answer here is yes. Three, will the character be asked back if the spinoff fails? Once again, that doesn't apply if both shows are off the air. Four, to what extent will we be reminded of the first show here? Gomer occasionally mentioned the folks in Mayberry. Strangely, his visiting grandfather was named Otis. Some would come visit him in upcoming seasons. Get ready to have a good time! This is definitely a family show. WARNING: Nabors' commentary on the obstacle course episode includes a story about visiting his home town. His telling includes a brief profanity. How that didn't get cut is a mystery. Thankfully, that's an exception. It's time to enlist in this platoon. Attention!』

(Review of Gomer Pyle,U.S.M.C. video order) 『I enjoyed the comical video and the actors. The product came in a very quick amount of time.』 『Golll-eeeee! The '60s' favorite TV country bumpkin, Gomer Pyle, won the hearts of viewers onThe Andy Griffith Show, and spun off in to his own wildly popular series,Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C.. As the eternally cheery and clueless Gomer, Jim Nabors gives a comic tour de force performance as a newbie Marine under the command of the short-tempered Sgt. Carter, played with demonic fervor by Frank Sutton. Are Pyle and Sgt. Carter bitter foes or comedic sidekicks? "Surprise, surprise, surprise"--the secret to their chemistry was that the actors and characters were both, inseparable and adorable in their signature ways. The scrapes Gomer gets into are fairly routine and never exactly threaten national security, but Nabors' guileless delivery makes viewers tune in for more; the belly laughs are real. The boxed set includes engaging audio commentary by Nabors, who clearly still holds a lot of affection for his hapless alter-ego, as well as all 30 first-season episodes, and the pilot, which actually aired onThe Andy Griffith Show. Other gems from the archive treasure trove include appearances by Nabors onThe Lucy Show,The David Frost Show, and Nabor's own variety show, which also showcased his accomplished singing.Shazam!--A.T. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (good stuff) 『Not too strong, not too subtle. For the price, one of the best colognes you can get. It's got a fresh kick with a subtle sweetness and citrus scent behind it. Good for everyday use.』
(I Be Smellin' Real Goooood.) 『My wife made a great birthday purchase when she bought me this eau de toilette. Although I find it odd for a German sports company to be making this kind of product, I give Adidas mad respect for Ice Dive. I can't believe how cheap Amazon is selling the stuff. It reminds me of Wings cologne by Giorgio Beverly Hills. I say don't spend 40 bucks+ on a designer cologne when $4 can be makin' you smell real nice.』
(good) 『The product is very good, and didn't take long time to deliver to my home.』
(nothing special, but it's cheap so...) 『I have colognes for all occasions. Dates, friends, at work, at the club, just out of the shower.. just need something to smell nice. I've been using this Ice Dive as more in the need of the last two.
Instead of a body splash, this cheap cologne smells nice and leaves me feeling clean after the body wash scent has faded from the shower. Many other times I just want to smell nice, be it to combat with body odors of myself or others or whatever reason, and in those cases you don't want to use your $100 bottle of Obsession. For that kind of scenario, I can recommend this Adidas scent. If you're looking for a signature date-scent, don't waste your time on this though. It smells sterotypical and un-unique. Not bad in any way, it's crisp and clean smelling, just not original enough to be that signature smell.』 『ADIDAS ICE DIVE For Men By ADIDAS』

(Great oil) 『Oil smells great. Use sparingly if you are using to make your own laundry detergent. More than a drop or two in your mix can stain clothes in the wash.』 『A zesty citrus, sweet, strong aroma, Sweet Orange is cheering, refreshing, uplifting, and comforting. Orange, like all citrus fruits, plays an important role in Chinese medicine. It is used for dull or oily complexions. As a skin conditioner, it brightens the skin and is soothing to dry, irritated, or acne prone skin. Aroma therapists use Sweet Orange to treat muscular tension, poor circulation, obesity, water retention, bronchitis, colds, constipation, and stress-related symptoms. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Not a great fit.) 『I like the design and, overall, it's pretty comfortable. But the straps across the breast don't fit snuggly and I end up taking the whole top down to nurse. Because they don't fit tight, the fabric kind of ripples and is itchy.』
(Beware of shrinkage!) 『I was so excited about this gown - looks very supportive, drop cup, etc, and when it arrived, it fit perfectly! However, a small tag noted that it is not preshrunk and to expect 10% or more shrinkage. Bummer. If you decide to order, keep this in mind.』
(Not sized for nursing mothers) 『I was very excited to receive this gown for Christmas after putting it on my list. Unfortunately, it's going right back. My pre-pregnancy size is normally a Medium but I ordered the Large seeing as how much my cup size increased since becoming pregnant. When trying the gown on it fit over my 32 week belly with room to spare but the cups were WAY too small to accommodate. I'm baffled that the cup sizes would be so disproportionate to the rest of the gown... especially for *nursing* mothers.
I really wanted to like this gown as it had everything I was looking for...cuteness, easy accessibility, softness--too bad they couldn't design it proportionately.』
(Best nursing gown I own!!!) 『I just got this gown in the mail and put it on! It is Awesome! Our puzzle (ordered 12/09) WAS handpainted and bright colored. Excellent way to introduce descriptive words for vocabulary development: long, thin, heavy, sharp, square. Puzzle would be especially effective if child could see tools in use around the house and time taken to match pieces to real tools, or even predict which tool would be best for the task (higher order thinking).』
(great learning tool!) 『I'm in love with Melissa and Doug products! This is a great beginner puzzle. The pieces are large/chunky enough to fit in your child's hand like a real tool so they can "fix" things when they aren't using them as puzzle pieces.』
(wooden preschool puzzles) 『My 2 year old niece has a father who is very handy around the house so getting a puzzle with tools was a great idea. The parents are high on "girl power" so there is a non-sexist attitude about appropriate puzzles for their daughter. Dad is very interactive with his daughter when they do this puzzle together.』
(Not like the other ones...) 『My son has six or seven of the Melissa and Doug chunky puzzles and we love them. However, the tool puzzle that we received is NOT hand painted as described, and like all of the other ones that we have. Instead, the pieces have sticker pictures on them and several of them are already peeling off at the edges. (We got this today.) Durability aside this is a good product and I recommend it.』

But I was offended of uses of words like "darkies", even if it was to highlight someone else's ignorance/racism. I am giving Harris the benefit of the doubt here, and this was not written so long ago that it would be a part of accepted literature to be blatantly racist, so I'll let it go. The story was kind of boring, and not many things were explained. The heroine was flat and kind of annoying (and racist?). The plot did turn a somewhat interesting corner, but just for the ending. The interesting thing for me is to see where she was already playing around with the idea for other characters/traits found in future series/novels. I don't recommend this book at all, but a curious hardcore Harris fan could not be talked out of reading it. If you're younger, don't read this racist crap, even if it is a character flaw in the fictional characters, it is not good to expose an immature mind to such ignorance.』
(Sweet&Deadly brilliant) 『Sweet&Deadly was a brilliant book. If you like the true blood series and couldn't put it down then this book will not disappoint. I couldn't put this one down. Brilliant.』
(Really Super) 『I loved this book and felt sad that Harris is so successful with her other series that this book will remain a single. I love her writing and if you love her way with words, this won't disappoint. Well, let me say I'm not a Sookie fan and her Harper Connelly is getting a bit to perverted for me. So, if you want that kind of madness, this may bore you. But if you loves her Teagarden series and her Shakespeare series, you'll like this. The characters are solid and the story is complex enough to be interesting. I fear that Sookie and Harper will win out and those of us who just like some good writing without a lot of blood and sexual perversion will be left aside. Charlaine if you're reading, please get another promo head shot.』
(Dragging, boring, annoying...) 『I guess as a debut novel this isn't bad but it's by no means a good book. The main character has no hooks to endear herself to the reader. There's no real story to her, she's just barely above one dimensional. The rest of the cast is trotted out on a one by one "Wait, is THIS the killer?!" basis. The story starts nowhere and really goes nowhere. There's a killing, there's another, there's two in the past. Gasp! Are they all related?! With the exception of a couple short stories and her second novel (waiting on the nightstand as I type) I've read and enjoyed everything Ms Harris has written except this. If you're a completest, go for it, you might as well read everything. Otherwise, give this one a pass, it's not that good. 』
(Love Charlaine Harris!) 『If you haven't started reading Charlaine Harris - you should! If you like this book, try the Sookie Stackhouse, Harper Connelly, Aurora Teagarden, and Lily Bard series! These books are great - entertaining and smart, and they flow very easily from one to the next, leaving you wanting more.
I can't believe I just "found" Charlaine Harris last year! :)』 『Now best known for her New York Times bestselling Sookie Stackhouse novels, Charlaine Harris hit "a home run the first time out" (Birmingham News) with the story of a murder that embroils a small-town reporter in mystery that hits close to home...

(Stick with Vol. I) 『I totally agree with several fan reviews posted here that Vol. I of this collaboration, which focused on some very interesting song choices from the 1960s, was excellent, but their move into the 70s falls flat. Unlike another reviewer here who thought this album looked great on paper (but was disappointed when he heard it), I didn't. Good God, who would want to hear this very sweet-sounding harmony duo cover unique, un-topable songs like All the Young Dudes and Bell Bottom Blues? Not me. But I gave it a try, and was right -- most of these cover versions do not work. The only song I really like is "Back of the Car," and maybe that's because I am not familiar with the original by Big Star. Their attempts at country rock fare little better. Buy Volume 1, and maybe they will have better luck if they move on to the 1980s. Also buy The Thorns album, on which Mathew Sweet works with a couple of other male singers on a fine album of original, Crosby, Stills&Nash-style songs.』

(On paper I should love this... but on disc, not so much) 『Look, I loved the first one. And when I saw the track list of this one I very nearly salivated-- two of my favorite artists performing a slew of my very favorite songs. I was looking forward to this release for months.
And then it arrived...
How, I ask, can something that seems so exquisite on paper turn out to be so boring?
I think that the fault lies in the extent to which these are, indeed, such faithful covers. I generally think there are two valid approaches to doing a cover. One is to reinvent the song, making it your own in the process (e.g., Jeff Buckley's version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah.") The other is to play the song basially straight, in the process showing how the artist of the original influenced the artist doing the cover (e.g., any Dave Edmunds cover of a Chuck berry song.)
These covers meet neither criteria. They are note-perfect, which seems to render them rather pointlss. For example, you can't hear "Couldn't I Just Tell You" without immediately wanting to hear the Todd original instead; ditto Big Star's "Back of a Car" and most of the others.
Clearly a labor of love, and I share the love, but a little less reverence would have gone a long way. And again, I loved volume 1, and am a sucker for Sweet and Hoffs and love all these songs. Bellieve me, I wanted to love this. it was like getting a date with the hottest girl in school, and half way through wishing you could just go home and watch TV.』
(volume 2 disappoints) 『After several years of enjoying volume 1, I eagerly awaited volume 2. I was disappointed. Susanna Hoffs sings every song in the same voice, pleasant and pretty but totally lacking in dynamics. Great songs, great instrument tracks, but how can someone sing "Bell Bottom Blues" or "Everything I Own" in a voice totally devoid of emotion? Stick to volume 1.』 『Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs delighted rock and pop fans when they teamed up as Sid 'n Susie to record an album's worth of '60s classics called Under the Covers Vol. 1. Now, three years later, Under the Covers Vol. 2 finds our heroes moving forward through rock's back pages to take on another decade: the '70s. From power-pop like The Raspberries and Big Star to the soft-rock of Carly Simon and Bread, and from the classic-rock of John Lennon and Derek and the Dominos to the prog-rock of Yes, Sid 'n Susie offer a pretty thorough survey of the state of rock, just before the Sex Pistols. Features guest appearances by Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac, Steve Howe of Yes, and George Harrison's son, Dhani Harrison.』 『2009 release, the second collaboration between the Power Pop king and the Bangles vocalist. Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs delighted Rock and Pop fans when they Teamed up as Sid n Susie to record an album's worth of '60s classics called Under the Covers Vol. 1. In the three years since, people have continued to ask when Vol. 2 will come out and what it'll contain. Well, the wait is over: Under The Covers Vol. 2 finds our heroes moving forward through Rock's back pages to take on a other 'nother decade: the '70s. From the Power Pop of The Raspberries and Big Star to the Soft Rock of Carly Simon and Bread, and from the Classic Rock of John Lennon and Derek&The Dominos to the Prog Rock of Yes, Sid n Susie offer a pretty thorough survey of the state of Rock, just before the Sex Pistols』

(Great Jazz Guitar) 『Next to Django, not much measures up; but this is a credible imitation on his style with a tight knit group to sew it all together.』
(soundtrack review) 『We enjoyed the movie and liked the music so much we decided to get the soundtrack so we could hear it any time we wished to do so. This is a great album !』
(Fresh and Jaunty) 『The sound track to "Sweet and Lowdown" has all the jaunty originality of the Woody Allen movie, but would easily stand on its own as a charming and accessible tribute to gypsy guitar genius Django Reinhardt and the club music of the 30s. The CD offers a superb rendition of Duke Ellington's "Caravan": disciplined, moody, with a repetitive motif that stays with you. Arranger and conductor Dick Hyman deserves the credit for this compilation of familiar themes played in fresh ways, driven in many cases by a jazz guitar lead. Note that the CD does not contain the music of Reinhardt himself, nor a rendition of his signature tune "Nuages," but you'll find yourself playing this sophisticated, upbeat collection at dinner parties, evenings over a good book, or whenever you need a little more cheer in your life.』
(Woody does it again) 『Woody Allen has a perchance for capturing the ridiculous as normality, none more than in Sweet and lowdown. Can you image a world class swing guitarist whose greatest pleasures are shooting rats at the local tip and train watching. He portrays himself as the greatest swing guitarist in the world, except for this guy in Paris, unfortunately every time he comes in contact with this guy, (Django Rheinhardt}, he faints. He finds a love interest in a mute girl, who is perfectly fitted to be the love of his life and eventually blows it. there are some wonderful scenes as people tell thier versions of particular periods of his life, mostly conficting. In the end basically every-one gets what they deserve, but the best part of this film is its sound track. Any-one who loves swing will warm to this movie and like me will probably buy the sound track.』 『Although Woody Allen has been using jazz from the '20s and '30s on his soundtracks sinceSleeper,Sweet and Lowdownis his first movie featuring the musicians of the period. The story is about Emmett Ray, who is a brilliant guitarist but is always being unfavorably compared to Django Reinhardt. Allen hired the guitarist Howard Alden and the Dick Hyman Group to play the music of Ray and his band, and they have done an excellent job of recreating the small band swing of the '30s. Alden has assimilated the music of such guitarists as Eddie Lang, Karl Kress, and Django to create a guitar style that is unique yet also sounds thoroughly authentic. He is the Zelig of guitar players. This music has all of the excitement of '30s jazz with none of the stodginess that sometimes plagues other jazz revivalists.--Michael Simmons』

(awesome compliation) 『Can I use the word "awesome" to describe a compilation of music from the 40's? Well, I must say, I'm impressed. I'm 25, I work in a nursing facility, I know nothing about music from this time, and I purchased this CD for my residents with them in mind. The first time I put it on, I had a gentleman literally dancing in his seat. He was singing every word to every song. He called out each artist and each song - he remembered them all. I felt like I had just given him a gift. I've had other residents and their family members ask for the name of the album, so they could find it. It's truly a hit with the generation that grew up on these songs! Highly recommended. And best of all, I enjoy the music too...it has me singing the Strip Polka all day.』
(those were our songs) 『 All the products I bought from Amazon.com. are very good and the company is very fair in their dealings, Bill Orlin』
(Almost Perfect) 『This CD would have been perfection except for the inclusion of two songs by Betty Hutton (listening to her mangled version of IT HAD TO BE YOU is too painful for words) and the exclusion of Glenn Miller. Perhaps whoever put this collection together experienced a brief psychotic break. I can't think of any other reason why the off-key, over-the-top vocals of Betty Hutton would have been selected over Glenn Miller.』
(Those Were Our Songs) 『Enjoyed listening to songs from my past. These are songs that cannot be found on radio stations anymore. For older adults it is a great find.』
