(Big Disappointment) 『Don't you hate it when you hear a great song on the radio or at a club so you take a gamble and buy the CD? That is what happened with me purchasing this one. The title track is very good and sure to put you in a good mood, with its classic pop sound. However, like many pop artists its one of only a few good songs on the CD. It is as though the producer decided to focus on one or two songs and the rest are just fillers. Besides the title track and a handful of others Gwen sounds like she is in 7th grade trying to cross the lines of trying to be cool and be a cheerleader. The music is stiff (for lack of better words) for the most part, and the yodel she incorporates is very irritating. However, if you like high school cheerleading and want to put it to music you may like it.

(One of the best releases that came out that year!) 『I remember this album practically took everybody by storm, and then when she performed on American Idol, I knew she was going to be around for a while. I like her solo work as good as her work with No Doubt. Because let's face it. She is the voice singing on all of No Doubt's stuff. Over the years, she's dramatically changed her image. I remember when she was considered only alternative and then No Doubt got huge and became pop. Then she said she wanted to do rap. I was like wtf? I wasn't a big fan of her 1st album, but this one outdoes it by a long shot. All the singles were huge when they came out, the look was cool, the production was very slick. I liked everything about this cd. It had to be one of my favorite to come out during that year. Wind it Up, The Sweet Escape, Now that you've got it. I mean all of the tracks were awesome. And the cd had a few more tracks that were better. Fluorescent and Break Up were two excellent songs, and they could have been huge hits. To me this is a great followup, so to speak, to Nelly Furtado's Loose. If you love that CD then your really going to love this one. (If you only own one Prine CD......) 『When I think of John Prine's early work, one word always seems to come to mind: "wry"..... as in possessing a dry wit and ironic sense of humor. Sort of like, if Andy Rooney was young, with dark facial hair, and could sing and play and write music...oh forget it. The pose of relaxed defiance on the cover pretty much tells the story. I'm a rebel but I first have to get just a little more worked up about this so I can climb out of this car. "Dear Abby" may be the pinnacle of this wit; in John's songview, the solution is always the same whatever the malady of the forelorn advice seeker. "Sweet Revenge" is also full of tuneful material rich in "hooks." Heck, we even get a touching ballad; "Blue Umbrella." And we get an unforgettable Christmas song, a lively ode to ancestry in "Grandpa Was a Carpenter," more wryness in "Often is a Word I Seldom Use," and so on. John has mellowed much these days. If you want a good dose of his earlier more cantankerous days, this is as good a place to start as any. Many songs that will cling to your memory for quite a long time.』

She was so much more than just the well spoken arm candy that this movie portrays her as. While Jacquline Smith does a respectable job with the script given I believe that "A Woman Named Jackie" came closer to portraying the true character of Jackie.』
(A great movie that offers a glimpse into what Jackie was like while married to JFK) 『This is a great movie staring Jaclyn Smith covering the period of time of Jackie's childhood through when Jackie met Jack Kennedy and married him up until Jack's death in Dallas. It offers a glimpse of what Jackie was like during this period and what being married to JFK was like. The period of time called Camelot was a magical time in US history and this film offers a unique and up beat perspective into this period.
For example there is a part in the film where Jackie went to Europe and Jack asked here to bring back some books. A whole crate of them. After they were married Jackie complained that the press asked here questions like if her panties were cotton or nylon. Jack said that when you give them something better to talk about they will and that's when she decided to renovate the White House.
Jaclyn Smith's acting is superb and the contrast between the role she plays and Jackie's alcoholic father is quite interesting. It's an great addition the body of knowledge about Jackie and JFK and a great Jaclyn Smith film.
The VHS tape version that is currently available has a running time of 122 minutes. The original version was 150 minutes. It would be nice if ABC Circle Films who produced the film in 1981 or whoever owns it would release the entire 150 minutes on DVD. 』
(A beautifully acted and produced saga of Jackie's early years) 『Not to be missed! Beginning with Jackie's childhood and continuing up to the great tragedy in Dallas, this lavish production offers an emotionally-charged, unforgettable performance by Jaclyn Smith. Perhaps her best performance ever, and it is uncanny how one can almost believe one is seeing the young Jacqueline Kennedy when Jaclyn Smith is on-screen.
Rod Taylor offers a wonderful portrayal of Jackie's beloved father.
Truly a film to savor -- a bit hard to find, but worth adding to one's collection as it is definitely a film to see more than once. Recommended!』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (One of Allen's finest 'little pictures') 『Woody's kept up a one-film-per-year pace for four decades, so they can't be all winners. His output, therefore, tends to fall into the major works (films like Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Crimes and Misdemeanors, many of which have novelistic plots) and the minor ones (which tend to be more like short stories). Some of the minor films, like the recent Scoop, are so perfect in their own right, I'd rank them among his best work. Some of these movies, made one after the other, also tend to fulfill thematic arcs in Allen's career. In Deconstructing Harry, for instance, a writer who is a failed human being redeems himself through art. Shortly after that film, Allen made Sweet and Lowdown, about a musician who is a failed human being who redeems himself through his art. The film is one of those great minor works by Allen, even echoing the theme of Manhattan of a selfish man who realises the love of his life, but too late. (You snooze, you lose.) This film's greatness, though, is its loving attention to its jazz-age milieu (I love the house party sequences), and the performance of Sean Penn, easily his greatest not to be honoured with an Oscar.』
(An Unacknowledged Remake of "La Strada") 『I like Woody -- Hannah, Crimes, Broadway, are among my favorite films. But this is clearly a rip off of Felinni's (far superior) masterpiece.』
(Not So Far From the Truth) 『I've loved this movie and the music in it since first seeing it shortly after it was released. Recently I learned that many of the odd little events were not so far from reality being based upon real events in Django Reinhardt's life. The crescent-moon chair is very close to the star that Django had built but then was afraid to actually use. Just as Emmett Ray was a cleptomaniac the real-life Django was skilled at "informal procurement" and was pleased when his youngest son showed a talent for the same. :)
I'm sure that none of us can even imagine the background that Django came from but Emmett Ray certainly brings to life a character that faced equally difficult challenges while having a rough start in life on the American side of the pond. Add in the "ego of genuius" and you have a volatile, yet delightful mix. I've known a lot of Jazz guitarists and Sean Penn's characterization of the fictional Emmett Ray is not all that far from reality.
If you love music, especially Jazz guitar, you will probably enjoy this movie. Also, if you enjoy a character that is clueless, insanely egotistic and ultmately lovable, look no further than Sean Penn's portrayal of the American Django, Emmett Ray.』
(Emmet Ray: Wanna go to the dump and shoot some rats?) 『Woody Allen's "Sweet and Lowdown" (1999), a fictional biopic about "the world's second best jazz guitarist," Emmet Ray is sweet, funny, dramatic, filled with fantastic music and is simply terrific. "Sweet and Lowdown" reminds "Bullets over Broadway" (1994), another Allen's period movie set in the nostalgic area of great jazz and gangsters who understood and supported art and the artists, at least to the certain points. Sean Penn gave IMO his best performance as the man as talented as he was egotistic and self-centered. Creating and performing brilliantly the clear, magical, and melancholic guitar compositions, Emmett Ray (Penn) was also busy with kleptomania, a little pimping on the side, dealing with gangsters, shooting rats and watching passing trains as his favorite hobbies, and also drinking, and chasing girls. Young Samantha Morton who was only 21 and ironically never seen any Allen's movie prior to taking a role of Penn's mute girlfriend-laundress, had to do all the acting with her face, eyes, and body language and was she good. The unrequited tender and all-forgiving love has the face, and that's Samantha's face in Woody Allen's bittersweet, comical and poignant Fake documentary about a true talent which was larger than the man who possessed it.

(The Beginning of a Tsunami) 『It may be Woody Allen's second best film, next to Annie Hall and is at least partly responsible for a popular resurgence of interest in the legendary Romany guitar virtuoso, Django Reinhardt. Enough has been written about the film's wonderful cinematography, fine performances by Sean Penn and Samantha Morton and Mr. Allen's brilliant direction. Here I would like to emphasize the real star of the film: the music, as arranged and played by Howard Alden, one of the great new-generation jazz guitarists helping to bring about the revival of jazz Manouche, or Gypsy jazz.
Sweet and Lowdown helped create a new audience for this once ubiquitous European style, the almost singular creation of Django Reinhardt, swing jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli and the other house musicians of the now historic Parisian nightspot, Le Hot Club du France. A volatile amalgam of Romany folk melodies, musette dance tunes and newly-imported American jazz (which arrived in France shortly after 'the Great War') Django's music took fire in the nineteen thirties, surviving the Nazi occupation and thriving well into the post-WWII era. The death of Django Reinhardt in 1953 and the emergence of bebop effectively ended the public love affair with jazz Manouche, which all but vanished as record collectors snapped up the surviving 78s and only a few poorly mastered LP recordings survived.
But Django's solos, his amazing technique and signature tunes would survive over the decades in the Romany caravans from which it came, to resurface in the past decade as the Hot Club Revival, drawing increasingly large gatherings of musicians and fans to Django festivals, Django Jazz camps and nightclubs all over the world featuring Gypsy Jazz Nights. After digitally remastered CDs brought Reinhardt's prolific recordings back to the mainstream and a new generation of jazz musicians discovered the joys of playing this challenging style, the revival took root. Now there is a new generations of Gypsy jazz guitarists such as Bireli Lagrene, Angelo DeBarre, Stochelo Rosenberg and others, who are responsible for keeping the flame alive.
Howard Alden did an amazing job recreating the sound and energy of Hot Club swing, providing a much deeper level of authenticity to what, in the wrong hands, could have been just another shallow period piece. The cars and clothes may have a vintage look and feel, but the music sounds fresh, vibrant and extremely listenable, even to the uninitiated ear.
If you haven't seen this film, you're in for a treat. Afterwards, you may want to venture out to hear more of this incredible music, thereby joining the tidal wave of Django enthusiasts literally sweeping the music world. And that wave isn't cresting any time soon.

The lazy pace drags at times and the script runs dry between comic centerpieces--the film screams for more of Allen's playful invention--but there's a bittersweet tenderness and an affecting vulnerability that is missing from his other recent work. (Decent film, fair Blu Ray.) 『Man, 1993 passed by so fast. It's almost 20 years ago!!
Ever since Blu Ray came out, I have been fiendin for some black films (mainly from the 70's. Shaft and Superfly remastered with 5.1!) and they have taken their time! Finally Do the Right Thing came out, but I guess that does not count as 'they' see that as Spike Lee's cinamatic masterpiece. Well, now Friday, Set it Off and Menace II Society have come out. I guess this will have to do until some of those 70's films come out...
Looking at this film now, you forget that it is only a hour and a half! The picture quality looked like Friday. It had a film look, but not an exceptionally sharp look to it. It was clear with film grain, but not dirty. Detail was there, but it was no Kingdom of Heaven or The Incedible Hulk quality! In fact, it looks like Do the Right Thing on BD, but slight less detailed. So if you know how that is, then there you have it. It is good quality and somewhat 3D, but not like blockbuster films.
Now the sound, which is in Dolby TruHD and is on point! I always felt like I was in the scenes that were being shown! When they go to the prison or through a home with music playing and exit it, the music goes behind the action and is where it should be no matter the direction. Once Caine leaves the house, the music is behind him. In the prison, the people talking on the side stay on the side that they should be on regardless of orientation. This is how surround sound should be done! I was not expecting it from this film.
If you like the movie, get it. If you are expecting Sean Connery James Bond quality, then you may want to pass. It looks like film and you feel that you are at the movies. I guess that is what we want.
Update: I forgot to add that there is posterization in the film. Most natably in the New Line Cinema logo at the start, in Jada's room and on the making of HD version.』
(menace II society blu-ray review) 『Dang i remember when i first saw menace II society back in the day.lowriders were the thing having a set of daytons on your ride was the thing.this movie fit in perfect with that culture at the time.so i was so excited when this was released on dvd.what a letdown the most grainy mess i have ever seen and the sound was crappy.then here comes high def and blu-ray! now i finally got to see this movie the way i always wanted to it looks awesome! the soundtrack is rather subtle during dialogue but when called upon the gunfire music and sound effects kick your ass!it seems to me that they bumped up some of the gunfire and stuff on the original soundtrack and it sounds very natural.there seems to be a few video shots that didnt fare so well onto blu-ray but is very subtle and hardly noticable.so if you are a fan of this movie you are definatley in for a treat! the ending scene they really packed a wallop into the soundtrack and it is powerful as ever.you will not forget it.....peace』

How can you beat that?) 『The Good The main portion of the DVD is from Skynyrd's appearance at the Loreley Festival in 1996, which was filmed for the German television program Rockpalast. The group's set is flawless as they rifle though some of their best material. The set didn't really get interesting for me until about eight songs in. For the first half Skynyrd focuses on lesser-known material; "I Ain't the One," "Double Trouble," and others. Once the crowd is into it, Skynyrd fires off hit after hit; "What's Your Name," "That Smell," "Simple Man," "Gimme Three Steps," "Call Me the Breeze," "Sweet Home Alabama," and "Free Bird."
The DVDs bonus material is from another performance in Germany. Only this time it features the original Lynyrd Skynyrd back in 1974. This three song performance of "Workin' For the MCA," "Free Bird," and "Sweet Home Alabama" is surprisingly of high quality. It was interesting to go from a hugh arena performance to a small club performance. After watching the '74 show you'll see how easy it was for the band to become as big as they did. As great as Johnny Van Zant is with Skynyrd today, his brother Ronnie was truly a better choice at vocals.
The Bad A longer performance of the '74 show or another show around that time would have been a better contrast to the main show.

(Let Mr young Know That 2) 『Love this DVD - Good to have old footage although sound quality is not good. Concert footage good.Gary Rossington, Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson original members with Ronnies Brother on lead vocals and Rickey Medlocke linked to the original band.Gives them some authenticity. they do a good job of the classic skynryd tracks.They were the greatest band cut down in their prime. Like Hendrix one can only imagine the type of stuff they had left to do.』
(Skynyrd Fan Must Have) 『This DVD is a great look at the band when they picked up the pieces and carried on after the crash. You can tell that Gary Rossington still has so much in him left to give. His guitar solo, as well as the other guitarist is phenominal to say the least! I highly recommend this product, and consider it a "must have" for Lynyrd Skynyrd fans!』
(Get it for mainly the bonus footage...) 『The main concert featured on this DVD is pretty good, but some of the performances from some of the band members are a little off. The two main redeeming highlights of the main concert with the more contemporary lineup is them performing "Workin' For MCA" (which they no longer could do once they signed to CMC) and the cool guitar solos performed in series by the three guitarists. The band's performance on the Lyve From Steel Town DVD is flawless, and overall I recommend that one over this one if you don't want to get both. However, I encourage you to get both, because several songs on this DVD do not appear on the Steel Town DVD because the latter was recorded shortly after their awesome "Twenty" album was released, so several of their old numbers were replaced with material from "Twenty."
The best thing about this DVD, of course, is the vintage footage of the old Lynyrd Skynyrd with Ronnie, Ed King, et al performing back in 1974. The sound quality is predicatably bad, but not unbearably horrible like some bootleg VHS recordings you can find on ebay. One cool part of that footage features Ed King doing a nice, melodic solo before the last verse of "Free Bird" that later was always occupied by Billy Powell--interesting--never heard a live version of Free Bird without Billy's solo. The only bad part (and it's just humorous rather than annoying) of this classic footage is Ed King singing harmony on "Sweet Home"--yikes! No wonder they got the Honkettes later on! :)』

Many other times I just want to smell nice, be it to combat with body odors of myself or others or whatever reason, and in those cases you don't want to use your $100 bottle of Obsession. For that kind of scenario, I can recommend this Adidas scent. If you're looking for a signature date-scent, don't waste your time on this though. It smells sterotypical and un-unique. The only thing is that quite a few projects use a felted ball, for example the cupcakes use one as the cherry. I couldn't find the directions to make these felt balls, so I ended up emailing Betz to find out how to make them and was told that she doesn't make them she purchases them from someone else and she gave me a website. I think that under project materials it should state that the felt balls are to be purchased elsewhere.
Betz did get back to me immediately in response to my email and she was very gracious! I think that I am going to purchase her next book without even seeing any of the projects in it yet, this Warm Fuzzies book was that good!!!!!!!! You won't regret adding this book to your craft collection and it will be one of the ones you will use often! Enjoy.』

This book is the FIRST one that I've ever sat down and actually made exactly what was in this book. The projects are just so appealing that you want to make 10 of everything.
I also love the fact that she advocates recycling old sweaters, which is inexpensive and eco-friendly. I know some people have had trouble finding sweaters to use, but I'm lucky to live in a cold weather state where the thrift stores abound with wool sweaters 9 months of the year. My best tip is to shop in the men's department. Their sweaters are larger and therefore yield more fabric per sweater. Women's sweaters often have more interesting details but usually provide much smaller pieces of fabric. OK if you're making a pincushion, but bad for making a blanket.
One other tip: When you wash the sweaters in your washing machine, don't take chances. Some of them shed a LOT. Put your sweaters in a zippered pillow protector. If you don't have one, you can easily sew one - it's simply a retangular fabric bag with a zipper on one end. It keeps the fuzz in and protects your washing machine from getting clogged up with wool.

Do you have family members of the old meat-and-potatoes type who can't imagine being satisfied with canned or freeze-dried entrees? Then this dish is for you. My husband, trying to be supportive, agreed grimly to try a Mountain House meal or two from our local sporting goods store in support of my plan to identify emergency foods to store at home. But he wasn't happy, even though he agreed with surprise that the Mountain House beef stew wasn't too bad after all. Then we stumbled on this as our second experiment. Wow. He asked me 3 times, all while wolfing it down, how this had been cooked, incredulous that it came out of a freeze dried packet cooked with nothing but boiling water poured into it. Really, this is absolutely delicious. Expensive, yes -- you won't want to eat this particular entree all the time, though my husband would be happy to! But as a treat planned for once every few days or so, it's a wonderful item to include in your emergency food kit along with a JetBoil or other means of boiling water if the power's out.
For those who can't guess how it works but need to know before they ante up the money, here's the deal: You remove the hamburger patties, leave the mashed potatoes in the pouch, add part of the boiling water, seal the pouch up like a Ziploc, and leave it for the specified time, after which you open the pouch and scrape the potatoes out onto to a plate or bowl. Then you return the hamburger patties to the still slightly gook-y pouch and add the remaining boiling water to cook them in the same fashion. The label on the pouch tells you how much water and how much time in the sealed bag for each part of the cooking process. It doesn't seem as though it will work -- I almost threw it out before cooking when I saw what the uncooked food looked like. And I was still dubious when I removed the reconstituted hamburgers, placed them next to the previously cooked potatoes, and served up the lot for my husband and me. But WOW. The meat is fork-tender and flavorful, with no sign of its reconstituted state, and the mashed potatoes are cheesy, fluffy, and perfect in texture -- just like your favorite mashed potatoes from a restaurant near home. Neither one is gummy or squishy -- each is like good regular food, both in taste and in mouth feel.
Try it. You won't believe how good it is. I'm betting you'll end up raiding your emergency supply fairly often during the just-got-home-late-can't-bear-to-cook-dinner-but-can't-stand-leftovers-or-pizza-delivery-need-a-real-"home-cooked"-type-meal-HELP! type of emergency that confronts all of us more often than we'd like. Trust me. You'll be glad you laid in a supply of this.
P.S. Based on my husband's reaction, I should tell you that, even though one pouch technically serves two people, there are individuals out there who will want their own pouch all to themselves... (!). He really has become quite a fan. We're cutting back on our expenditures right now. He doesn't want me to spend anything for anything. But when I told him I was ordering 10 of these from Amazon to keep in the house, he nodded enthusiastically and said "OH yeah...!".』
(My favorite camping meal) 『This is my favorite freeze dried camping meal, and I've tried quite a lot of the vegetarian flavors and brands. The pasta primavera is very flavorful and has a great creamy texture. The pasta noodles cook well and get soft (unlike brands where the pasta never cooks no matter how long it sits in the bag). There isn't tons of fat or cheese, which is surprising given how creamy the sauce is. There are many vegetables in the primavera making it healthier than some other meals, and one of the main ingredients is zucchini. The meal is very filling and amply feeds two people. When camping I like to pour it ontop of instant rice, which also makes the meal stretch well between two people if you are really hungry. These boots are one piece and more comfortable since there is no insert for jeans or snow pants to get "hung up" on. They are very water resistant and plenty warm for the sometimes bitter cold Colorado winters. The are the perfect weight, not too heavy/not too light and have great traction. The faux shearling at the top is adorable. This is her second pair in as many seasons and I will buy the same boots again next season. Once again Columbia has made a great boot!』

(Fantastic!) 『I needed some new boots to walk to campus in during the Colorado winters at CSU, I actually wear a women's size 6.5 or 7 so I got these in a size 5 because kids' shoes are much more cost-effective (especially if you buy them in July-65% off) and these ones don't actually look like "kid shoes". They are possibly the best snow boots I've ever owned! I have really wide feet and high arches and my feet fit into them perfectly. I didn't realize when buying them that they actually have a stretchy draw-string thing insteat of laces which is really convenient but doesn't look tacky. They're light-weight, comfortable, and versatile and I may even be able to use them for hiking once the weather begins to cool down. The only thing I would warn you about is that the back hits my calves in a sort of strange spot. It isn't really bothersome and the longer I wear them the better it gets, but they push my calves foreward slightly. However, It might be due to the fact that I'm an adult wearing shoes meant for someone who is shorter than 4 feet. Overall I would definitely reccomend them.』
