(Healthy snack for my dogs..) 『Sam's Yams Veggie Rawhide Big Boyz - 1 lb
My Golden and Old English love these. A newspaper article I read said these are healthy for the dogs and to us humans-they even smell nice..』
(Sam's Yams) 『I have a six year old Golden Retriever with an extremely delicate digestive system. Recently she bled internally after chewing a rawhide. Needless to say, once I calmed my guilt, I had to find a healthy alternatve because she loved to chew on cheweeze rawhides as a treat. (My Vet told me rawhides can be extremely dangerous for some dogs.)
I knew she liked sweet potato, so when I discovered Sam's Yams, I figured, why not give them a try? The result, she absolutely loves them!!! I have to keep reordering 3 bags at a time because she barks at the cabinet we keep them in until I give her another.
Sam's Yams is such a wonderful and healthy alternative to rawhide. It is also a low fat treat, which is wonderful for breeds that have a tendency to put weight on.
I cannot say enough about this product. My dog loves them, my Vet approves and that makes me a very happy owner.
They are sliced in different sizes for small, medium and large dogs. If your dogs love to chew, why not give them a try?』
(great product) 『My dog has many food allergies so she is not able to chew on most dog bones. This product is great because I can give them to her without her skin breaking out into a rash. I rated these a 4 instead of a 5 because I wish they lasted longer. She loves the taste and will gobble them up in a minute or two. Still worth buying though』 『Sam's Yams Big Boyz are made of very thick slabs of sweet potato. Made for larger dogs (but small dogs will enjoy them, too)! Finally a veggie alternative to rawhide! During the winter months we treat our dogs to warm sweet potatoes as a Sunday dinner treat. Now your dog can enjoy this great tasting, highly nutritious snack, too. Now there is a natural, vegetarian way for your dog to enjoy that "rawhide" texture. Sam's Veggie Rawhide chews are made of whole thick slabs of sweet potato, dehydrated. They have a hard surface, excellent for dental health, and a chewability that dogs love.』
『This fragrance is ideal for any season. The notes for this item are lavender, cedarwood, frankincense, jasmine, chamomile, rose, honey, vanilla sandalwood, and patchouli.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (It changed my life) 『After nearly a lifetime of day-in, day-out ho-hum tedium, I've finally found something worth living for. While searching for something green on Amazon, which I do every day, I happened across Organic Early Dell Celery 150 Seeds. My quivering fingers keyed in the address to my houseboat, and anxiety overcame me. After fainting thrice, I managed to complete the transaction. For two long business days, I constructed and decorated a special room for Organic Early Dell Celery 150 Seeds, so it would feel welcome and make my home its. On arrival, I tore open the box, foaming with glee to find my Organic Early Dell Celery 150 Seeds. In a pouch lie exactly 147 seeds, which I've since planted. As an aside, I have contacted customer service, and they have ASSURED me that my 3 missing seeds were an oversight, and would be packaged and shipped with free insurance, via freight.
What a deal this turned out to be! All 150 seeds have sprouted into celery stalks, which apparently are consumable! It's like getting 150 meals for $2.79. I've since ordered 100 Organic Early Dell Celery 150 Seeds so that I may eat for the rest of my life. Think of the savings!

One for the car, one for the house, and one just in case it ever went out of print-- though it never has. And I've given several as gifts.
I enjoy classical music as an amateur, but I am neither an expert nor an audio wonk. Simply stated, this CD has given me more unalloyed pleasure than any of the other 750+ CDs I own. I have several other recordings of The Lark Ascending, but nothing comes close to this beautifully serene reading, which I listen to on headphones as a meditation. (Years ago, I used it in the hospital, with therapeutic effect.) All other selections are of similarly high caliber. The pre-digital recorded sound bears a lovely aural patina, without a trace of "digital edge" or jarring hyper-realism. It bears repeated-- indeed, hundreds of-- listenings.
When I bought the cassette version in the early 1980's, I think it was about $10-- which would probably be about $40 today-- and worth every cent. This CD is a joy and a bargain that I cannot recommend highly enough.』
(For every fan of Rafe Vaughan Williams) 『Every true fan will love this CD. All of his most well-known pieces are represented here, played beautifully and recorded faithfully, along with a few less frequently heard offerings. The exuberance of the "English Folk Song Suite" is delightfully energetic, and the dark, surging mysteries of the "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis" will not fail in their ability to generate goose pimples. It sends the mind to places of imagination and wonder, and is rendered on this disk with all the color, richness and depth it deserves. "The Lark" fairly ascends before one's eyes in this particularly representative piece and like all of Williams' work, leaves the listener deeply satisfied. Enjoy.』
(a few facts and my opinion about these recordings) 『First, the facts: this CD is a welcome compilation of VW recordings made by Adrian Boult between 1967 and 1970, and culled from various LPs where they served as fillers or flip sides to collections. By chronological order, The Lark Ascending completed the 6th Symphony in 1967, Norfolk Rhapsody # 1 came with the 4th Symphony in 1968, In the Fen Country served as a filler for Symphony No. 3 that same year, Serenade to Music was the complement to the Fifth Symphony in 1969. Finally, Fantasia on Greensleeves and English Folk Song Suite came with Elgar's Enigma Variations in 1970. Three of Boult's customary orchestras are involved: London SO ('67 and '68), LPO ('69) and New Philharmonia ('70). TT on this CD is 65:42 and its good to have these tidbits (which were left out when EMI reissued the symphonies in the early days of the CD) gathered on a single disc.
The compositions span roughly the first half of VW's compositional career, from 1904 (In the Fen Country, the first work he allowed to remain in his catalog, although in a version and instrumentation subsequently revised) to 1938 (Serenade to Music). Stylistically, they can be divided between VW's early impressionistic and atmospheric style, very much smacking of Delius and even Sibelius at times (In the Fen Country, Norfolk Rhapsody #1 from 1906), his lighter Folk-Song inspiration (English Folk Song Suite, originally written for military band in 1923 and here given in Gordon Jacob's arrangement for orchestra), and the pastoral and sentimental style of his middle years (The Lark Ascending, 1914 revised in 1920 and Serenade to Music, 1938), both with the typical, wailing solo violin (but I guess I've entered the realm of opinions, now)
Opinions, then: interpretively, where comparisons are available to me, these versions from the older Boult (he was 78 in 1967) are a mixed bag. His Serenade to Music his commendable for being true to the original version and request of conductor Henry Wood for his Jubilee, with 16 vocal soloists, and for its superb cast, starting with the truly stellar soprano Norma Burrowes - an advantage over Bernstein, who also did the original version in 1962 (THE ROYAL EDITION - Vaughan Williams: Symphony 4 / Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis / Fantasia on 'Greensleeves' / Serenade to Music). Boult is also to be lauded for not over-sentimentalizing, unlike Bernstein through the adoption of an excessively slow opening tempo. But Bernstein's orchestra is much more present and dramatic at the climaxes; Boult misses many opportunities for bite, and his orchestra is at times distant, as if it had been recorded independently from the soloists, with the two later mixed together. That said, the layout I prefer is the one adopted by Malcolm Sargent, with four soloists and chorus (Vaughan Williams:Overture 'The Wasps'/Fantasia on 'Greensleeves'/Fantasia on a Theme by Tallis/Serenade to Music/ Toward the Unknown Region): the chorus has a silk in the softer passages and a power in the climaxes that, whatever their merits, 16 soloists simply cannot match, and the interplay between "ripieno" (soloists) and "continuo" (full chorus) comes out with much more drama.
Unlike in the Serenade, it is not VW's original version that Boult plays in the Greensleeves fantasia but the arrangement by Ralph Greaves, which substitutes two flutes to the solo violin. I prefer the original for strings alone (with harps), because of its baroque Concerto Grosso flavor, with dialogues of ripieno and continuo. The original version is what Bernstein plays. Although here again Boult adopts an animated beginning tempo which avoids over-sentimentalizing the music (which doesn't need it), another questionable feature of his reading is his adoption of a very moderate tempo in the middle section (an elaboration of a Norfolk folk-tune), which robs it of any contrast with the framing Greensleeves theme and makes the piece into some kind of continuous, brooding dirge.
Norfolk Rapsody # 1 (in case you wonder about # 2&3, the composer withdrew them) illustrates VW at his most impressionistic and atmospheric. The version by Normal Del Mar heading the City of Birmingham SO (Toward the Unknown) is slightly more animated than Boult's, rhythmically more precise and sonically more spacious. Contrary to some other reviewers, I prefer this recording of The Lark Ascending with Hugh Bean to Boult's earlier one, made in 1954 with Jean Pougnet (Vaughan Williams: Symphony No. 6 in E minor/ A Song of Thanksgiving/ The Lark Ascending or Vaughan Williams: Dona Nobis Pacem and Other Works): the incomparably better sonics, Boult's extra spaciousness and Bean's silky tone make a significant difference.
These interpretive comments are meant for those who really care for these niceties. As they are, Boult's readings do not betray the compositions nor (except perhaps in the middle section of Greensleeves) give a distorted view of the music. The music remains enjoyable and entertaining, if not manifesting a striking compositional originality (one can only dream of what Britten might have done with Shakespeare's text in Serenade to Music), and given his strong association with the composer any Vaughan Williams recorded by Boult will be of significance. In my case, though, since I'm desperately trying to make shelve-room, the only reason for me to keep this disc is for The Lark Ascending and for the stellar cast in Serenade to Music - although I'm not very interested in the composition itself, which, despite its beautiful solo melismatas, I find excessively sentimental and cloying, and derivative in its language (of Wagner, Debussy's Pelleas, and I hear whiffs of Zemlinsky's Lyric Symphony or of Griffes" "The Pleasure Dome of Kublai Khan" as well).
Short but informative liner notes 』
(Voughn Williams Lark Acending) 『Not quite what I expected and not as good as I had hopped for. My Fault - not theirs』
(absolutely wonderful) 『Many have already reviewed this CD very positively, so just a brief word. This is probably the most attractive intro. you could have to Vaughan Williams - all the works, whether well known or not so well known, are most beautiful, the recording is excellent and the performances under Boult, who knew exactly how to get the beauty and the poetry out of VW without losing sight of the structure, could not be better. You just can't go wrong - it's a glorious CD.』

What is not to like with these beautiful angelic sounds? For me it is the same sound over and over. Beautiful songs that are totally forgetable. I think she need better producing and promoting. Comparing her to Celine Dion or Sarah McLachlan, oh, please. Not yet.』
(WORTH BUYING!) 『I HAVE ENJOYED THIS CD. I THINK KELLY HAS A VERY PLEASING VOICE. I LIKE A VARIETY OF MUSIC AND THIS FITS IN WITH IT ALL. WORTH EVERY PENNY.』
(The Sweettest Voice) 『Kelly Sweet is the most beautiful voice of all the new singers of this era...
(Yes, The Voice of an Angel) 『I hate blatant gushing in Amazon reviews, yet for Kelly Sweet, my review title says it all. "Dream On" by Aerosmith is a classic which I always thought was untouchable and never ever imagined that it could be redone. Yet Kelly Sweet pulls it off with her stunningly beautiful rendition. I REALLY hate to gush, but this CD is a "WOW".』
(Can't stop listening....) 『I have listened to this disc repeatedly (which is truly rare for me)--it never gets old. She truly has a "sweet" and calming voice. I put this on when everyday stresses start to bring me down. I can't wait for her next release.』 『Kelly Sweet was never a contestant on a TV singing competition, and she isn't the product of the latest svengali producer. Which, in 2007, makes her something of a rare new pop star. Her approach to the genre is pretty unexpected, too: Temperamentally, the flame-haired chanteuse falls somewhere between Celine Dion and Sarah McLachlan, which is to say she's all softness, warmth, and sincerity. Vocally, she's a ringer for Amy Lee of the rock band Evanescence, minus the goth fixation. And categorically, her closest fit within the wide world of pop is classical crossover. Consider her the female Josh Groban then, with the multilingual skills to match: In addition to a haunting and miraculously un-awful rendition of Aerosmith's "Dream On," she busts out a French track, "Je T'aime," that sends out summery flutters; a Sanskrit song from the film "Gladiator," "Now We Are Free," that impresses with its depth of feeling; and an Italian number, "Giorno Dopo Giorno," that ripples with tenderness and sentimentality. Sweet is a songbird with a wide wingspan; her debut mostly soars.--Tammy La Gorce』 『Not your typical pop record in any way, shape or form, WE ARE ONE has a much more ambitious sensibility than those being heard on Top 40 radio today. With songs sung in English, Italian, French, and Sanskrit, and melodies that partake of both jazz and classical influences, WE ARE ONE conveys a sense of depth, intimacy and sophistication not often heard in today's pop landscape. The magnificent "Giorno Dopo Giorno" couples Sweet's soaring vocals with a thrilling string arrangement, bringing listeners the kind of intense joy that can usually only be experienced in the world's finest opera houses. "The song originally had English lyrics," says Sweet, "and it was called `Who Can I Believe In?' We felt that the melody was too European and didn't work with the lyrics, so we asked Marco Marinangelli, who writes Italian lyrics for Josh Groban, to translate the words into Italian. It came out beautifully." Sweet says she has always gravitated to the beautiful sounds of languages other than English. "I was classically trained beginning at the age of 11," she says, "and that's when I began to sing in other languages. It always came very easily to me."
WE ARE ONE, then, is that rarest of musical experiences--a seamless emotional journey that deeply touches listeners of all ages with its beauty, grace, individuality, and courage. But perhaps to call Sweet courageous is overstating something that is really much simpler. "This music is not about me," she says. "It's about the soul in all of us. I am just happy to have a voice to convey these things to the world."
And the world is certainly a better place because of it.』

(Benny Goodman CD Essential) 『This was the best collection of Benny Goodman that I have heard. I have collected many Benny Goodman recordings and this has become my favorite. Richard』
(GOOD OVERVIEW) 『The sound quality of this anthology is excellent, particularly considering most of the tracks are from the 1930s/1940s. The booklet could be more comprehensive and the track selection feels a little arbitrary, but the Goodman magic is still wonderfully evident on every track. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Michael Imperioli Really Shines In This!!--Bring It To DVD Already!!) 『I had this in my collection back when I still had VHS's, but as I graduated my collection to DVD's, I found that this great movie, starring Michael Imperioli and Mira Sorvino, wasn't available on DVD! That was around 2004/2005 when I made the switch...so what is the hold up? This movie was a late night staple on HBO and Showtime back a few years ago, and if you're lucky enough to catch it, then you'll see what a stellar &underrated actor that Michael Imperioli truly is! Even though he has played a drug addicted person before in other roles, he found a way to bring a soul&depth to it that really draws you in and makes you want to take his character's convoluted journey with him! You're really pulling for him to get straight!--Stop lying to his loving and long suffering wife, played admirably by Mira Sorvino, who keeps hanging on to the hope that her man isn't a total scum bag, though he is destroying her hope daily. I don't want to spoil the other details for you if you haven't seen it, but this is some good work and well worth adding to your collection when it finally comes to DVD!』
(Michael Imperioli most brilliant performance ever!!!) 『when i saw this movie i said to myself this was as real of a story about a middle class family who got into the drug biz, live the life with money power and respect and then drug addiction caught up with them and show the vicious cycle of drugs in all level. why is this movie so good its because the realism of drugs and family struggle is all here as well as the acting performances are perfection especially from mira sorvino and the great michael imperioli. mike performance as angel is so good that its disappointing that he didnt get a oscar nomination for his brilliant performance as a realistic crack addicted. i do agree that this film should be shown to every high school health class and even in colleges, med school, police etc. this movies is up there as the best anti drug film ever thanks to incredible story and michael brilliant performance. i cant wait to show my kids this film when they get older. i hope it comes out for dvd soon its worth the buy!! (Why Never Released on DVD?) 『I caught this movie on cable one night and instantly wanted to own it. It's a fantastic movie that is incredibly dynamic in nature. There is the struggle to hold a family together, economic pressures that lead a man to crime, and the descent into madness at the hands of a crack pipe.
Michael Imperioli and Mira Sorvino both give amazing performances. This true story about a man named Angel (Angelo) was written in a diary that was found in an empty apartment in New York.
Years after seeing this, it remains one of my favorites. I cannot help but wonder why such an amazing movie was never released on DVD.』
(Sweet Nothing) 『Powerful movie, very real!!!........A must see!!! Too bad they don't show this movie in schools so kids can see the real dangers of crack addiction.』
(A must see for all young adults) 『If anyone ever wanted a reason no to do drugs, this is the movie. More powerful than any lecture or discussion could ever dream of being, this film shows so clearly what crack addiction is like. This movie should be shown to every high school senior.』

His film Class Trip is a masterpiece, and he just won a FIPRESCI award at the Berlin Fest. This is a 20 year old film starring Gerard Depardieu as you've never seen him. He's plays a nerd insanely in love with someone and determined to build a dream house for both of them to live in, happily ever after. This is dark, edgy, hypnotic, surprising. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Modern day film noir) 『It is difficult to imagine that his film was made nearly 20 years ago. Jason Patric plays a young man, former boxer who is emotionally damaged. He hussles his way into people's lives and then simply runs away. During one of his stints, he comes across beautiful woman, a widow, who offers him a shelter in exchange for some handy work around her house.
It does not take long before it is apparent that a woman and her friends have agenda on how to create enough wealth so they do not have to worry about the money during the old days. They are about to use ex-boxer as a tool to get to the goal. Erotic tension rises but so does desire for control. No one seem to be what they pretend to be and that is when film truly reaches its peak.
Jason Patrick gives a fantastic performance. He has a true swagger of a boxing champion. His eyes reflect his mood of the moment. At that point he taks over the big screen and the course of the movie. It is one of the films made in film noir fashion that draws audiences into destinies of the protagonists. There are no winners at the end of the story and that is the beauty of the movie.』
(Didn't expect what I wanted to See.) 『Its a ok movie,I didn't like it,I was expecting more action movie then alot of exrotic sex, some sex scene.』
(After Dark My Sweet) 『Excellent and entertaining movie with fine acting by J. Patrick, R. Ward, and B. Dern. The widescreen DVD has very good picture and sound.』
(pulp fiction) 『 Jason Patric is memorable as a drifting, washed up boxer who gets caught up as the patsy in a disasterous kidnapping scheme. Patric's only fault could be that he's a bit too pretty as he's a good actor and like others have said below it's a shame that he hasn't been seen in more films. Rachel Ward makes a believable alcoholic femme fatale but I couldn't help but think of Jessica Lange playing the part as the role seems tailor-made for her.
Over-all this was a great little film, very film-noir, so much so that it almost seemed strange to be watching it in color, so it didn't surprise me at all to learn from the other reviews that the story was actually from a 50's pulp novel of the same name. I can't speak for the novel but in the films case this title doesn't fit at all but it's good to see that it's not being forgotten.
』
(A great little film noir) 『Film noir focuses on desperate people doing desperate things. And that is exactly what this movie entails. Others have gone over the plot here so I will not do that. I will say that all actors did exceedingly well in what can be very difficult roles to play. They all acted off each other in a believable manner. Bruce Dern was never seedier than he is with this character. Jason Patric and Rachel Ward also excel at thier characters. What is decieving here is the setting....somewhere in the southwest, desert area. Film noir is typically dark and shadowy but here there is lots of sunlight. It takes the focus off the setting and puts it on the plot, which I found to be an interesting twist and quite effective. In the heat, the emotions bubble over. Lust, greed, deception, lies, mistrust and paranoia all play out in layer upon layer and is accented by Jason Patric's character very effectively. For those who like film noir with a twist you will certainly like this little known gem. It is immediately captivating and magnetic. I don't know how I missed it on it's original release but certainly glad I caught up to it. Take a chance folks... you won't be disappointed.』 『If you like the twisted, amoral characters that inhabit the world of pulp novelist Jim Thompson, you're going to loveAfter Dark, My Sweet, one of the most faithful of many Thompson adaptations. Protagonist Kevin "Kid" Collins (Jason Patric), called "Collie" by those attracted to his shaggy dog side, escapes from a mental hospital and shuffles into a lonely desert town (and Patric really has the gait of a former pugilist down). Enter widow Fay Anderson (Rachel Ward), with legs that could stop a truck and a half-baked scheme to kidnap the scion of a rich family, which she's dreamed up with her unctuous and untrustworthy Uncle Bud (Bruce Dern), and it's the beginning of the end for the likable Kid.
After Dark, My Sweetis a film about judging people. No one is who they seem. Only by guessing their true intentions can Collins have a chance to survive. The film also has brilliant performances by the three leads, especially Dern, whose Uncle Bud is delightfully unhinged. Director James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross,The Corruptor) is subtly adept at fleshing out the characters and their ambiguities, which solves the problem inherent in adapting Thompson's sleazy tales--namely, that much of the drama is internal, and therefore unfilmable).--Wayne Karrfalt』

For those interested in African-American genealogy,I feel this is a must have. And even if you're not a fan of genealogy itself, the celebrities and the presentations of their 'stories' are interesting in and of themselves. Highly recommend! 』
(Really, really good television) 『A wonderful PBS program hosted by Henry Louis Gates. With the aid of historians and geneologists, Professor Gates researches his own history and that of several prominent African Americans. Each guest speaks of his or her own knowledge of their ancestors and Professor Gates fills in the gaps using census records, estate diaries, archives and DNA. Everyone is in some way surprised by what they learn concerning their lineage. Professor Gates is a gifted communicator, and the interaction between he and his guests is very interesting. I loved the segments with him and his dad and aunt. The parts regarding slavery are very moving--it's sobering to see how human beings were put on the level of oxen or cattle with some records not even listing their names. The guests appeared to be deeply touched when told of their enslaved ancestors. I would highly recommend this well made, fascinating DVD to anyone who is interested in geneology or African American issues, or really anyone.』

Most of the residents are affected in some way. It's all about story and the unfolding of it, and within its genre, I consider this movie a classic. I get cranky when people habitually compare movies to books, for one is not the other, and never shall be. But if you appreciate the work of novelist Russell Banks, I think you'd be hard pressed to order up a more pleasing rendering of the novel. With the movie, you essentially breathe the same air, or at least I did. The same intimate sketches are made of the characters involved. Their relationships, their likes and their animosities, and the way each of them consider the unthinkable development in their lives, are just as beautifully and painfully rendered here, given the medium involved.
The story is simple, but not the people who inhabit that world, or the way they relate to each other. The magic is in the telling and the revealing. If I were limited to a dozen examples of film as art, 'The Sweet Hereafter' would likely be among them. Most of the cast are low-profile, but very talented. The glue that binds the story together, is Ian Holm. He turns in a subtle but unforgettable performance as the lawyer, Mitchell Stephens. He arrives in town seeking multiple clients and expecting to make large settlements. He walks into much more than expected, while at the same time bearing the crushing weight of his own personal torment. The residents of this small town are coping with a collective, unthinkable loss. They suffer together in quiet dignity until legal framework forces them to find, and point toward a cause for their suffering. In spite of great tragedy, a ghostly kind of beauty manages to peek through.』
(The Sweet Hereafter of Bogus Film Criticism) 『'The Sweet Hereafter' concerns the tragic effect of a school bus crash on the townspeople in a rural town. Many critics were afraid to judge the film on its own merits and placed it on a pedestal where they declared such a film "off limits" to any kind of real criticism. Unconsciously the subject matter affected their judgments. Here was a film about a very delicate subject--the death of innocent children. The characters in the film (parents of the deceased children) were all shattered. It was as if criticizing the film was akin to criticizing these parents as well as any parent who had experienced such a tragic loss. But from the point of view of effective drama, the film is virtually a complete failure. Very little of it rings true at all.
Except for some very nice cinematography and an affecting musical score, 'The Sweet Hereafter' plods along at a snail's pace. The director's intent is to display the range of emotions these parents felt in the aftermath of losing their children. But what is so profound about focusing on such grief? The main character, a negligence lawyer, goes around the town convincing the parents to join in a class action lawsuit against the unspecified person or situation which caused the terrible accident. Most of the parents he sees agree to join the lawsuit (a lot of these scenes with the parents are drawn out and could have been easily condensed). The lawyer finally encounters one man who gives him a hard time. This is perhaps the most dramatic conflict that comes up during the film. But this one towns person's opposition to joining the lawsuit is completely vague. Why is he so against joining the lawsuit? Why is so angry at the lawyer? Because he feels the lawyer is profiting at the expense of the townspeople? Even so, is it really believable that he doesn't want to get to the bottom of what happened as opposed to simply dropping the whole case?
The ending of the film is even more unbelievable. The negligence lawyer never seems to have a definitive plan to try the case. He alludes to various factors that caused the accident, such as a faulty guard rail or a defective bolt inside the bus. A real negligence lawyer would never have taken such a huge case in the first place without feeling that he could be successful. It almost seems like he thinks that he uncover the 'truth' during the discovery process. A real lawyer would have already had some tangible evidence (already uncovered) that would have convinced him to go forward. Furthermore, when the young survivor lies in her deposition, stating that the bus driver was driving too fast, the seemingly smart lawyer folds up like a deck of cards and decides not to cross-examine her. A real lawyer could have made mince-meat of her but he chooses to quit the case and leave all his clients in the lurch. In real life he probably would have been hauled in front of an ethics board.
And why does the young survivor decide to lie in the end? Why does she lie knowing that she is accusing the innocent bus driver? Why does she want to case to 'go away'? Is it that she's so traumatized by the accident that she simply wants to forget about it? Everything is left so open and vague in this film that we never understand any of the characters' motivations.
Lastly, there's a lot of lame talk (mostly over the phone) between the lawyer and his drug-addicted, rebellious daughter. Seemingly there's supposed to be some kind of parallel between the lawyer's personal angst and the angst of the townspeople (this is the lawyer's defense when that one townspeople berates him before the climactic deposition scene). All this conflict between the lawyer and the daughter is gratuitous and simply does not work cinematically. We hardly ever see those two characters together and their conflict is basically a separate story which has no real place in this film.
The Sweet Hereafter basically lacks substance. It congratulates itself for displaying the raw emotion of grief but lacks a central antagonist to engage us. An examination of grief in itself is not enough to sustain an entire story. Whenever conflicts do arise in this film, they are episodic, unclearly motivated and for the most part, lacking the ring of truth. If you're strictly into atmosphere and mood, this is the film for you. But if you're looking for a strong story arc with convincing conflicts, you will not find it in 'The Sweet Hereafter'.

(3 stars out of 4) 『The Bottom Line:
Overpraised in many quarters, The Sweet Hereafter is a well-crafted look into the lives of people who have had their lives racked by tragedy, but its clinical detachment and an unnecessary incest subplot prevent Egoyan's film from achieving greatness.』
(bone chilling drama at its best) 『The Sweet Hereafter is a film you're not likely to forget anytime soon. The movie portrays human beings as they can really be--greedy, confused after a huge tragic loss, in denial of guilt and more. The plot moves along at a good pace and the storyline is absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately, this movie is not for everyone since the plot is rather haunting and dark; this is anything but a family film. The actors do a superb job and the cinematography is excellent.
When the action begins, an ambulance chasing lawyer Mitchell Stevens (played by Ian Holm) races up to a small Canadian town after a school bus accident has cost the lives of most of the small town's children. Mitchell approaches the townsfolk to build a huge lawsuit against the people whom he believes he can determine to be guilty for having caused the accident. Perhaps the school bus wasn't regularly maintained--or maybe the manufacturer of the bus used poor quality bolts; Mitchell doesn't care, he just wants a piece of the action.
Of course, some embrace the idea of a lawsuit--but yet others want to forget about any trial and they make no bones about it. In particular, look for Tom McCamus who plays Sam Burnell, a father with a dirty secret and Sarah Polley plays Sam's daughter Nicole. While Sam wants the lawsuit to pay medical bills and probably make a buck off this lemon, his daughter Nicole is not so comfortable with this idea. We come to see that so many of the townsfolk have dark secrets of their own; and even the lawyer Mitchell Stevens has a rather troubled relationship with his daughter Zoë (played wonderfully by Caerthan Banks). There is also the very emotionally scarred bus driver who survived the accident, Dolores Discolt (Gabrielle Rose), who eventually makes it plain that she doesn't want to be judged in a court of law by a jury made up of people who don't know her at all.
As secrets and the rest of the plot unfold, questions arise: Will Dolores change her mind about the lawsuit and want it after all? What about the father of two children who saw the tragedy as he followed the bus in his pickup--will Billy (Bruce Greenwood) ever change his mind and decide a lawsuit is a good idea? And what about Mitchell's own relationship with his daughter Zoë--is there any hope for things to get better between the two of them? Keep an eye out for excellent, practically seamless flashbacks and flash forwards that really impress me with just how smoothly they are woven into the film.
The DVD comes with a plethora of extras: we get an audio commentary by film director Adam Egoyan; and there is a Charlie Rose interview with Egoyan as well. I especially liked the "Q&A" extra with several members of the cast. We even get some biographies and filmographies, too.
All in all, The Sweet Hereafter is an excellent film that I highly recommend. Reserve it for a time when you can handle a heavy film about people and how they can truly be when confronted with a seemingly insurmountable loss. You won't regret watching it. 』
(Hauntingly beautiful!!) 『I saw this movie after I had read about it in a list of 100 daring movies. It truly is, in so many ways. The scene with the school bus is one I will never forget. There are many layers to this movie, and I enjoyed them.』 『In synopsisThe Sweet Hereaftermay sound like a devastatingly unpleasant downer, but don't be discouraged. The real subjects of this luminous picture (adapted by director Atom Egoyan from Russell Banks's novel) are hope and renewal--avoiding the cheap emotions suggested by those clichéd terms. Like other Egoyan films (Exotica, for one), it's an intriguing sort of mystery, a puzzle in which the big picture is not revealed until the very last piece is in place. A metropolitan attorney (Ian Holm) travels to a small British Columbian town where 14 children have been killed in a school bus accident to prepare a class-action suit. With sensitivity and empathy, he approaches relatives with promises that the suit will give focus and closure to their grief. And as he investigates the circumstances of the accident, he not only uncovers a few local secrets, but dredges up some painful pieces of his own past. Slowly, deeper mysteries are revealed--eternal mysteries at the very heart of human nature: Who is to blame for a tragedy like this? And why do people feel such a need to assign blame? Is that how they give meaning to otherwise inconceivable events? How does one reassemble a shattered life? The Sweet Hereafteris too honest to offer bromides, but it shows how a few people struggle, as best they can, to answer these questions for themselves. DVD extras include audio commentary by Egoyan and Banks, a Charlie Rose interview with Egoyan, and a panel discussion with the filmmakers.--Jim Emerson』 『FOLLOWING A TRAGIC SCHOOLBUS ACCIDENT, HIGH-PROFILE LAWYER MITCHELL STEPHENS DESCENDS UPON A SMALL TOWN, WITH PROMISES OF RETRIBUTION AND A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT FILED ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY. Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Sweet Snap Shot of the 1960's) 『A film more for those who experienced the 1960's. A fairly light hearted musical flick with Sammy Davis Jnr being the show stealer in the "Big Daddy" number - one I remembered very well from a young child. The dance numbers are well staged and the costumes colourful (except for Miss "Plain Jane" Sweet Charity herself) - the totally impossible beehive hairdo's. So much of the music I knew - and that you'll probably will too - you never realized it was from this movie/show.』
(Pay better attention, Mr. Fine) 『First off, the film version of "Sweet Charity" is, in no way, an essential video. It does preserve Bob Fosse's marvelous choreography from his original stage direction, including "Big Spender", which, on film, looks like an obvious template for many of the cabaret sequences in "Cabaret". Unfortunately, Fosse went a little nuts trying to pull out all the stops in his first filmic shot. What on stage was incredibly inventive and pioneering, appears merely overblown in the translation to film. Shirley MacLaine is fine, but she doesn't quite match the pizzazz that Gwen Verdon brought to the role. She was absolutely unique in the history of Broadway, a gifted comedienne, an adequate singer, and, possibly the best dancer ever to trod those Broadway boards. Mr. Fine, in his Amazon review, confuses Charity with her Fellini model Cabiria, who was, in fact, a prostitute with a heart of gold. Fosse chose to reinvent her as a dime-a-dance hostess, not because of any production code concerns, but because this better suited his conception. Charity, while offering her favors liberally to a plethora of loutish boyfriends, did not, and would never have turned tricks. Worth seeing and hearing, especially for the great Cy Coleman-Dorothy Fields score, but far from what it should have been. Try picking up the terrific Columbia cast album, and using your imagination. Fosse, of course, would do infinitely better in his next go behind the camera, "Cabaret".』
(Bob Fosse: Dance expresses joy better than anything else.) 『My love and admiration for Federico Fellini/Guiletta Masina's film Nights of Cabiria had stopped me for long time from seeing Sweet Charity, the adaptation of the musical based on the same story which was made into a highly successful Broadway show directed and choreographed by a multitalented Bob Fosse. I am a fan of Bob Fosse. I love all his films, musicals and not, but I was hesitant to see Sweet Charity the movie and I never had a chance to see the Broadway musical. Well, I finally did and I can say that nothing is wrong with transporting the same story to the different time, place, language, medium, and to use the different artistic tools. The story is the same; the films are as different as Rome and NYC or as Federico Fellini and Bob Fosse. Fosse's film should be judged on its own terms, and it has a lot of breathtaking scenes to enjoy, bright colors, outrageously stunning costumes (the work of incredible Edith Head), adorable and unbelievably cute Shirley MacLaine, Sweet Charity Hope Valentine, and the best of all - the dancing sequences to die for. Among them, splendid The Big Spender is perfection and the real treasure. Fosse's staging of the musical numbers is outstanding. The most memorable moment in the movie for me was stolen from Shirley MacLaine by Chita Rivera in Big Spender. Just watch Rivera's seemingly boneless arms, the right one around her head and the left one behind her back, the left hand on her right hip as she sings, "do you want to have fun, fun, fun?" For this moment alone, I like the film even if I see very well that it has some minuses, too. The first act between two intermissions was really good, and it includes the best dancing and singing numbers: "Hey, Big Spender", "The Pompeii Club", "Rich Man's Frug", and "If They Could See Me Now". After the second intermission the movie went over the hill. I believe that it could do without both intermissions. We are not watching the show at the theater, and the intermissions only took time. The "hippiest" "Rhythm of Life" scene was overlong, did not make much sense, and made me want to fast-forward it. I take it that Fosse wanted to experience with the camera movements and different techniques in his very first feature film which was a screen transfer of his Broadway Musical. This is the only explanation of his multiple slow-motions, stills, color/black/white and back changes that did not add anything to the film, just paused it with no apparent reasons. His next screen adaptation was timeless Cabaret, and he had improved his directing style dramatically. As the result, Cabaret has stayed his greatest achievement along with All That Jazz.
Coming back to the original tragic comedy "Nights of Cabiria", of all the characters Fellini had given life on screen, by his own words, Cabiria was the only one he worried about many years after the film was made. Of all the characters, I've seen in films, Cabiria is the one I often think about - whatever happened to her? Did she survive? Was she able to find love? As much as I like Shirley MacLaine/Charity, I did not worry about her future. She lived happily ever after - in both movie endings, theatrical and alternative.

(Sweet Charity) 『I saw the original Broadway musical&went back stage as a kid to get autographs. This is a good rendition, but it is nowhere near what the Orig was. I do recommend this to others, as it is a classic&a fun movie. Gwen Verdon was supreme on Broadray, Shirley MacLaine does her best to replicate her.』
(My mother-in-law loved it!) 『Requested by my mother-in-law she absolutely loved the movie. The songs were outstanding as you would expect from most high class musicals. And last but not least the price and prompt delivery were very much appreciated.』 『After several years as the hottest musical director on Broadway, Bob Fosse made his film directorial debut with this movie version of his Broadway hit, which was based on Fellini'sNights of Cabiria. Shirley MacLaine is terrific as the proverbial hooker with the heart of gold, one who is convinced that she will find the right man if she just turns enough tricks. The Cy Coleman score is a solid one; the film is at its best when Fosse lets his cast of singer-dancers (which includes Chita Rivera, Paula Kelly, and Sammy Davis Jr.) unleash his leggy brand of choreography. While the film suffers from stylistic excesses of the period, you can see the seeds being planted for Fosse's future musical film forays inCabaretandAll That Jazz.--Marshall Fine』 『Loves a dream to a hostess in a seedy new york dance hall. (cheaper when you buy 32oz, even with shipping... on QVC***) 『Love it, but I love my money too. So I spent the last 30 minutes calculating the cheapest way to buy my newest obsession.
Calculated the price per oz a few ways.
Ebay had occasional good deals, but if you are not careful you could end up paying a lot more than anywhere else.
Amazon had good large quantity purchases (you have to transfer it into a little bottle for the shower cause do you really want that huge thing in your shower?) .... but it was actually a little more expensive to buy a gallon on amazon, than to buy the equivalent 4-32oz bottles on QVC (intro price is 44.82/32oz with 6.50 in shipping on QVC).... even when you calculate the shipping 4 times. I like the opportunity to change smells 4 times... You do get into a "automatic shipping" deal with qvc. But you can cancel.
Ebay=not worth trouble Amazon 1 gallon=easiest purchase QVC=more variety, a little cheaper, more trouble :)』

I love the styling creme too. I did find a small savings. I love Amazon...but I did find a small savings at QVC...you can get the 32oz for $44 and change! (Great for every day use!) 『This cologne will not wow you if you are sniffing at it from the nozzle of the bottle but once it goes on your skin, it releases a very soft masculine scent that you can wear every day. I usually make cologne choices based on the intended occasion, and this one I would give a thumbs up for 'every day' use. You do not need to spray much to get the effect and you can smell subtle and sexy without making people tear up in your wake. For any other special occasions, I'd make a different choice only because of personal preferrence (and the fact that I do have other choices - can you say cologne lover!!). I collect more than I wear cologne so for me to be comfortable using this everyday is saying much - I sometimes mix it with Kenzo just to give it my own twist but either way it is a great manly scent when used in small amounts.』

(Broke into 3 pieces..) 『 This crown arrived in a huge box with lots of packing material. It comes flat so I unpacked it and turned it into a circle to form a crown, but it was so rigid that it snapped into 3 pieces before I could even get the ends attached. A huge disappointment.』
(Do not buy!) 『This crown ships as one flat piece which needs to be bent into the crown shape. It broke into three pieces as soon as I tried to bend it into shape!!!』
(King's Crown) 『This is great for kids. It is inexpensive and the kids love it! To them, it is the greatest thing in the world.』 『 An adorable golden plastic king, prince or birthday crown. Use them as a special crown for the birthday child or as party hats for an entire royal themed party! How fun!

(amazing poetry) 『Hafiz writes with passion and sweetness. His spirituality and deep love of God pours out of him and into each line. I'm hooked on Hafiz! I will have to get everything he has written!』
(My Most Favorite Book of All Time!) 『"The Subject Tonight Is Love" never ceases to bring tears of joy to my eyes every time I read it. I share Hafiz and this particular volume with my friends often, to introduce them to Hafiz. Hafiz has also influence my own poetry. Fall in love through Hafiz with the Divine over and over! By Donna P. Savage, Author of The Man and The Shark: A Modern Day Fable of Awakening and Rebirth』
(Hafiz is a gem for our times) 『This book is such a gem that I have already had two copies of it 'borrowed' from my library. I am on to my third copy now. Hafiz' poetry is absolutely mystical and beautiful. It reads as though it was written yesterday, and addresses so many of our modern problems about love and theology. Hafiz is beautifully irreverent.』
(Lovely) 『This was a great buy! I loved the poems that the translator had picked out for this edition and they were all very well translated and not like some other really horrible translations that I've read of persian poetry. I gave it as a gift to one of my friends and now she can't get enough of Hafiz.』 『To Persians, the fourteenth-century poems of Hafiz are not classical literature from a remote past, but cherished love, wisdom, and humor from a dear and intimate friend. Perhaps, more than any other Persian poet, it is Hafiz who most fully accesses the mystical, healing dimensions of poetry. Daniel Ladinsky has made it his life's work to create modern, inspired translations of the world's most profound spiritual poetry. Through Ladinsky's translations, Hafiz's voice comes alive across the centuries singing his message of love.』

I have been a practicing systems engineer for over 15 years, and I still find this text useful as a reference. I highly recommend this book both as a beginning graduate level text and a practical reference for the working systems engineering professional.』
(Terrible Book) 『Worse book I have ever read. When engineers write books this is what you get, a ton of definitions and poorly structured uninteresting chapters. Learned more from reading online, then I ever got from this book. I don't even think it is worth the paper it is written on. Absolutely terrible, don't buy.』
(Great book on Systems Engineering) 『Excellent book on Systems Engineering covering Development, Post-Development (Production, Operation and Support), Systems Engineering Management, Software Systems Engineering and Decision Tools on the same book.
I believe it is coherent with its goal: "help students learn how to think like systems engineers".
It is easy to read and has exercises at the end of each chapter.
I recommend it for both students and practitioners.』
(Excellent resource!) 『This book is a great text for those interested in learning or expanding your knowledge of systems engineering. Well presented with sound explanations on the concepts. My company has multiple copies in use. Highly recommended.』
(Regularly Used Reference) 『Useful in many of my process definition tasks. Essential text for any System Engineer.』 『This classroom-tested approach is based on a successful course at Johns Hopkins University, originally developed to serve the needs of Westinghouse Co. * Provides an excellent entry-level approach to understanding how to minimize complexity and maximize efficiency in industry and business. * Each chapter will be accompanied by a set of problems to aid understanding.』

『The vision of company founder Adolf Dassler has long become reality, and his corporate philosophy the guiding principle for successor generations. The idea was as simple as it was brilliant. Adi Dassler's aim was to provide every athlete with the best possible equipment. It all began in 1920, when Adi Dassler made his first shoes using the few materials available after the First World War.
The adidas name dates back to 1948, deriving from the first two syllables of Adi Dassler's first and last name. One year later, Adi Dassler registered the Three Stripes as a trademark. After a period spanning almost 70 years, the Dassler Family withdrew from the company in 1989, and the enterprise was transformed into a corporation ("Aktiengesellschaft"). French-born Robert Louis-Dreyfus was Chairman of the Executive Board from April 1993 to March 2001. It was he who initiated adidas' flotation on the stock market in November 1995. adidas--a name that stands for competence in all sectors of sport around the globe. Today, the adidas product range extends from shoes, apparel and accessories for basketball, soccer, fitness and training to adventure, trail and golf.
『That guy in the coffee shop is trying to subtly check you out. Whewit's hot in here. Unbutton two of the top buttons on the Horny Toad Women's Sweet Pea Short-Sleeve Shirt's placket. Oh my, still hot. Three more buttons find themselves open. You, the semi-fitted Sweet Pea Shirt, and the skin that the shirt is no longer covering now have his full attention. We'd recommend saving the last buttons for laterthis soft shirt's placket goes down pretty deep.
