I have had an occasional batch (this is a rare occasion) that does not set within the suggested timeframe. I have learned with practice that this is easily rectified by dumping the now cooled water already in the easiyo 'maker' and replacing it with warm tap water, (do not use hot as this will kill the yogurt culture) putting the cover back on and letting it set for another 2 hrs or so. I have never had a problem with it not setting using this additional method. As a sidenote, when I started purchasing from Amazon, they had the best prices around. Now though the prices have gone through the roof I don't know that I would pay $6/liter (5c US) (the first increase) never mind the now $15, maybe it's a typo that someone hasn'tcaught up with yet?』
(Caution Before Buying!) 『I bought this product along with the yogurt maker from a TV shopping channel. The yogurt set perfectly each time per the directions, and is absolutely delicious. Then, I bought 10 additional packets of the strawberry yogurt from this website, and now the third in a row did not set at all. I finally took a close look at the box it came in, and the product expire date was about 6 months before this item was shipped to me. The label shows it was manufactured on April 6 of 2008 and it clearly labels the "Best Before" date as April 12 of 2009. I ordered this item in October of 2009. I have CAREFULLY followed directions and have an unacceptable product. I just noticed the outdate on the item yesterday. I am going to try to get a refund! And, if I have to warm milk to a precise temperature and then cool it down to another temperature, it is no longer "Easiyo".』

I followed directions that came with my maker: heat 950mL of milk to 185 degrees, let cool till 112 degrees, add yogurt packet (Easiyo), mix VERY THOROUGHLY and divide into cups. I let them incubate for 10 hours.』
(One of the best!) 『I did not want to buy a new Easiyo yogurt machine when I already had an electric one. I tried following the directions on the yogurt package but used my electric machine. The yogurt ended up being runny and watery.
When I used milk instead of water and followed the directions that came with the electric machine, instead of the instructions on the package it turned out much, much better.
With those modifications - This is one of the best yogurt starters out there. Rich, creamy and thicker than most other starters. Has a great flavor. How can you beat that?) 『The Good The main portion of the DVD is from Skynyrd's appearance at the Loreley Festival in 1996, which was filmed for the German television program Rockpalast. The group's set is flawless as they rifle though some of their best material. The set didn't really get interesting for me until about eight songs in. For the first half Skynyrd focuses on lesser-known material; "I Ain't the One," "Double Trouble," and others. Once the crowd is into it, Skynyrd fires off hit after hit; "What's Your Name," "That Smell," "Simple Man," "Gimme Three Steps," "Call Me the Breeze," "Sweet Home Alabama," and "Free Bird."
The DVDs bonus material is from another performance in Germany. Only this time it features the original Lynyrd Skynyrd back in 1974. This three song performance of "Workin' For the MCA," "Free Bird," and "Sweet Home Alabama" is surprisingly of high quality. It was interesting to go from a hugh arena performance to a small club performance. After watching the '74 show you'll see how easy it was for the band to become as big as they did. As great as Johnny Van Zant is with Skynyrd today, his brother Ronnie was truly a better choice at vocals.
The Bad A longer performance of the '74 show or another show around that time would have been a better contrast to the main show.

Like Hendrix one can only imagine the type of stuff they had left to do.』
(Skynyrd Fan Must Have) 『This DVD is a great look at the band when they picked up the pieces and carried on after the crash. You can tell that Gary Rossington still has so much in him left to give. His guitar solo, as well as the other guitarist is phenominal to say the least! I highly recommend this product, and consider it a "must have" for Lynyrd Skynyrd fans!』
(Get it for mainly the bonus footage...) 『The main concert featured on this DVD is pretty good, but some of the performances from some of the band members are a little off. The two main redeeming highlights of the main concert with the more contemporary lineup is them performing "Workin' For MCA" (which they no longer could do once they signed to CMC) and the cool guitar solos performed in series by the three guitarists. The band's performance on the Lyve From Steel Town DVD is flawless, and overall I recommend that one over this one if you don't want to get both. However, I encourage you to get both, because several songs on this DVD do not appear on the Steel Town DVD because the latter was recorded shortly after their awesome "Twenty" album was released, so several of their old numbers were replaced with material from "Twenty."
The best thing about this DVD, of course, is the vintage footage of the old Lynyrd Skynyrd with Ronnie, Ed King, et al performing back in 1974. The sound quality is predicatably bad, but not unbearably horrible like some bootleg VHS recordings you can find on ebay. One cool part of that footage features Ed King doing a nice, melodic solo before the last verse of "Free Bird" that later was always occupied by Billy Powell--interesting--never heard a live version of Free Bird without Billy's solo. The only bad part (and it's just humorous rather than annoying) of this classic footage is Ed King singing harmony on "Sweet Home"--yikes! No wonder they got the Honkettes later on! :)』

I remember hearing most of these tunes played on the radio in the late 70's&80's and then sort of forgot about them until I heard "Cool Night" on the radio last fall. I love these songs. He had a fabulous voice and was a great songwriter. Paul Davis died recently, (4-22-08), one day after his 60th birthday, of a heart attack.』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (One of Allen's finest 'little pictures') 『Woody's kept up a one-film-per-year pace for four decades, so they can't be all winners. His output, therefore, tends to fall into the major works (films like Manhattan, Hannah and Her Sisters, and Crimes and Misdemeanors, many of which have novelistic plots) and the minor ones (which tend to be more like short stories). Some of the minor films, like the recent Scoop, are so perfect in their own right, I'd rank them among his best work. Some of these movies, made one after the other, also tend to fulfill thematic arcs in Allen's career. In Deconstructing Harry, for instance, a writer who is a failed human being redeems himself through art. Shortly after that film, Allen made Sweet and Lowdown, about a musician who is a failed human being who redeems himself through his art. The film is one of those great minor works by Allen, even echoing the theme of Manhattan of a selfish man who realises the love of his life, but too late. (You snooze, you lose.) This film's greatness, though, is its loving attention to its jazz-age milieu (I love the house party sequences), and the performance of Sean Penn, easily his greatest not to be honoured with an Oscar.』

(Not So Far From the Truth) 『I've loved this movie and the music in it since first seeing it shortly after it was released. Recently I learned that many of the odd little events were not so far from reality being based upon real events in Django Reinhardt's life. The crescent-moon chair is very close to the star that Django had built but then was afraid to actually use. Just as Emmett Ray was a cleptomaniac the real-life Django was skilled at "informal procurement" and was pleased when his youngest son showed a talent for the same. :)
I'm sure that none of us can even imagine the background that Django came from but Emmett Ray certainly brings to life a character that faced equally difficult challenges while having a rough start in life on the American side of the pond. Add in the "ego of genuius" and you have a volatile, yet delightful mix. I've known a lot of Jazz guitarists and Sean Penn's characterization of the fictional Emmett Ray is not all that far from reality.
If you love music, especially Jazz guitar, you will probably enjoy this movie. Also, if you enjoy a character that is clueless, insanely egotistic and ultmately lovable, look no further than Sean Penn's portrayal of the American Django, Emmett Ray.』
(Emmet Ray: Wanna go to the dump and shoot some rats?) 『Woody Allen's "Sweet and Lowdown" (1999), a fictional biopic about "the world's second best jazz guitarist," Emmet Ray is sweet, funny, dramatic, filled with fantastic music and is simply terrific. "Sweet and Lowdown" reminds "Bullets over Broadway" (1994), another Allen's period movie set in the nostalgic area of great jazz and gangsters who understood and supported art and the artists, at least to the certain points. Sean Penn gave IMO his best performance as the man as talented as he was egotistic and self-centered. Creating and performing brilliantly the clear, magical, and melancholic guitar compositions, Emmett Ray (Penn) was also busy with kleptomania, a little pimping on the side, dealing with gangsters, shooting rats and watching passing trains as his favorite hobbies, and also drinking, and chasing girls. Young Samantha Morton who was only 21 and ironically never seen any Allen's movie prior to taking a role of Penn's mute girlfriend-laundress, had to do all the acting with her face, eyes, and body language and was she good. The unrequited tender and all-forgiving love has the face, and that's Samantha's face in Woody Allen's bittersweet, comical and poignant Fake documentary about a true talent which was larger than the man who possessed it.

(The Beginning of a Tsunami) 『It may be Woody Allen's second best film, next to Annie Hall and is at least partly responsible for a popular resurgence of interest in the legendary Romany guitar virtuoso, Django Reinhardt. Enough has been written about the film's wonderful cinematography, fine performances by Sean Penn and Samantha Morton and Mr. Allen's brilliant direction. Here I would like to emphasize the real star of the film: the music, as arranged and played by Howard Alden, one of the great new-generation jazz guitarists helping to bring about the revival of jazz Manouche, or Gypsy jazz.
Sweet and Lowdown helped create a new audience for this once ubiquitous European style, the almost singular creation of Django Reinhardt, swing jazz violinist Stephane Grappelli and the other house musicians of the now historic Parisian nightspot, Le Hot Club du France. A volatile amalgam of Romany folk melodies, musette dance tunes and newly-imported American jazz (which arrived in France shortly after 'the Great War') Django's music took fire in the nineteen thirties, surviving the Nazi occupation and thriving well into the post-WWII era. The death of Django Reinhardt in 1953 and the emergence of bebop effectively ended the public love affair with jazz Manouche, which all but vanished as record collectors snapped up the surviving 78s and only a few poorly mastered LP recordings survived.
But Django's solos, his amazing technique and signature tunes would survive over the decades in the Romany caravans from which it came, to resurface in the past decade as the Hot Club Revival, drawing increasingly large gatherings of musicians and fans to Django festivals, Django Jazz camps and nightclubs all over the world featuring Gypsy Jazz Nights. After digitally remastered CDs brought Reinhardt's prolific recordings back to the mainstream and a new generation of jazz musicians discovered the joys of playing this challenging style, the revival took root. Now there is a new generations of Gypsy jazz guitarists such as Bireli Lagrene, Angelo DeBarre, Stochelo Rosenberg and others, who are responsible for keeping the flame alive.
Howard Alden did an amazing job recreating the sound and energy of Hot Club swing, providing a much deeper level of authenticity to what, in the wrong hands, could have been just another shallow period piece. The cars and clothes may have a vintage look and feel, but the music sounds fresh, vibrant and extremely listenable, even to the uninitiated ear.
If you haven't seen this film, you're in for a treat. Afterwards, you may want to venture out to hear more of this incredible music, thereby joining the tidal wave of Django enthusiasts literally sweeping the music world. And that wave isn't cresting any time soon.

The lazy pace drags at times and the script runs dry between comic centerpieces--the film screams for more of Allen's playful invention--but there's a bittersweet tenderness and an affecting vulnerability that is missing from his other recent work. (Family Guy: A Celebration of Pop Culture) 『THE FAMILY GUY adds to Fox TV's list of tv shows about dysfunctional families (i.e. THE SIMPSONS and MARRIED WITH CHILDREN). Creator, writer, voice actor, Seth McFarlane's only crime is that he loves pop culture, MGM Musicals, Comic Books, Saturday Morning Cartoons, etc and there's nothing wrong with that. Those added non-sequitur clips that pop up in the middle of episodes is a clear indication of that love of pop culture. This reviewer thinks that some critics lambast the show because they wish they had thought up some of the stuff he lovingly lampoons and throws in. They aren't for cheap laughs, but it is to give viewers a fond rememberence of stuff they grew up with as children giving it a warped twist. Another obvious indication is using Adam West (aka Bruce Wayne/Batman) as one of the voice actors for the show. FAMILY GUY works for this reviewer because this reviewer is in tune with the warped, yet genius mind of Seth McFarlane.』

He is sent to prison for five years after asking the court to appoint a lawyer and being refused. In current terms he would have been confined for life as it was his fifth felon conviction since he was 14 and broke into a store to get warm clothes in winter. This story is a strange one and it appears some young felons had named him patsy for this crime. After two years in prison he was lucky enough to be chosen as a constitutional law test case. Even more lucky than that, his lawyer won. In the retrial his conviction was reversed, because it seems that he sometimes ran the pool hall and had a set of keys. This movie was one of Henry Fonda's last roles and it showed his liberal life's work to a good light.』
(Outstanding portrail of an imporant piece of history) 『Many "jail" movies spend an inordinate amount of time dwelling on prison life. Instead this movie dives right into the legal battle fought to guarantee all men the right to council (regardless of their ability to pay). Henry Fonda does an outstanding job of portraying Clarance Earl Gideon a small time hood and drifter falsely accused of robbing a bar/pool hall. Jose Ferrer plays Abe Fortas who argued the case on behalf of the ACLU and then later became a Supreme Court associate justice himself.』
(Fonda's Best) 『I've seen most of Henry Fonda's films and this ranks among his very best. He has captured the flawed character of Clarence Earl Gideon like no other actor.This seemingly inconsequential individual who changed the course of American jurisprudence through his appeal to the US Supreme Court for legal representation is portrayed by Fonda so convincingly and so assuredly that Fonda and Gideon become indivisible.
One is equally astonished that the High Court gave such consideration to a relatively minor infraction of the law, and in doing so, gave everyone like the obscure,impoverished Gideon the right to council regardless of their station in life.
As has been stated elsewhere, this film is both an entertaining and informative experience. It is a must see for law students and laymen alike. 』
(A true story the teaches and entertains) 『I've been teaching Political Science classes at various schools in the South for 24 years and I always try to show this film during my section on civil liberties. In a little over 90 minutes students learn how the right to a lawyer in all cases was established, how important this right is, and they are entertained at the same time. Wonderful acting from Fonda, Houseman, and Fay Wray also appeal to film buffs. I'm glad to be able to get it on DVD as my VHS copies are starting to show their age.』

But it wasn't until the early 1960s, when the events chronicled inGideon's Trumpetunfolded, that this fundamental prerogative became law. As portrayed by Henry Fonda in this Emmy-nominated 1980 TV movie, Clarence Earl Gideon was neither a hero nor a crusader out to re-write history. He was in fact, a criminal recidivist, a poor drifter with four broken marriages and multiple prison terms in his past. Busted for breaking and entering and petty larceny in Panama City, Florida in 1961, Gideon proclaimed his innocence; but when his demand for a lawyer was rejected at trial (only defendants in capital cases were given court-appointed attorneys in Florida), he was forced to defend himself, resulting in a conviction and a five-year jail sentence. What followed was a matter of luck as well as persistence, as his appeal became one of the few that the U.S. Supreme Court agreed to hear. Chief Justice Earl Warren (John Houseman, who also executive-produced) assigned Abe Fortas (Jose Ferrer), himself a future Supreme Court justice, to handle the case, and Fortas' skillful work led to the overturning ofBetts v. Brady, a 1942 decision in which the high court had ruled that even indigent defendants weren't entitled to counsel when prosecuted by a state; Gideon's second trial (his claim that double jeopardy applied was rejected), this time with proper representation, is depicted in the final sequences of the film. As befitting the decidedly un-glamorous details of the story, Fonda, who was 75 at the time (the real Gideon was 51) and nearing the end of his storied career, delivers a laconic, low-key performance, effectively depicting a crusty, world-weary, but dignified man who got a raw deal, saw a flaw in the legal system, and fought to correct it. They are lower in sugar than some of the other options out there and higher in dietary fiber. They still have the added vitamins of other toddler cereal bars. Overall he could eat worse things for breakfast :-) We use it as a snack on the way to daycare in the morning, he eats his full breakfast later at daycare.
I guess my only complaint would be that the bars do break apart pretty easy. This has lead to tears a few times in the mornings when my toddler is sad that his cereal bar broke. They also don't stand up to being thrown into the diaper bag very well.

The first time I got one I ended up in the ER with extreme pain from a distended bladder. Doctors put me on antibiotics and I'd be ok for a while, even months but this is a problem that progresses. Now I have UTI pretty much all the time and the antibiotics stopped working. I've heard that if I lived on a lower glycemic diet, the UTI would go away but for now I've discovered d-mannose from the writings of Jonathan Wright MD of Tacoma Clinic. D-mannose power is d-mannose powder so there isn't a lot of difference between one brand or another. I like this particular brand because when I called their customer service to ask a question about doseage they gave me a very thorough and easily understood answer - not the first time I called, but the 2nd time when someone who had more technical knowledge got back to me. I also like their purple scoop. Other products don't have scoops at all or have clear plastic scoops that are very difficult to find in the tub. The trick with d-mannose is that you have to know how much you're taking and start by taking plenty,then gradually taper off until you have a maintenance dose. A mantenance dose isn't necessary for everyone but for those of us who have reoccuring episodes it's vital. Read up on how much you should take and do it as recommended. I got good info from [...] - a product under d-mannose that is meant to get you started and contains only enough for 4 days. After that you can use powder or capsules. Powder is less expensive but capsule contain exact amounts of d-mannose with fillers. Right now and until I know what my maintenance dose is, I'm using capsules because I want exactness. This is a good product. Even after stirring it may settle at the bottom of your glass so give it a little time to disolve. I put it in water so that I can see when it's fully disolved. Room temp water works better than cold water.』

In addition, interspersed within the recipes are anecdotes of the author's experience when she explored the various Parisian patisseries. The recipes are sumptuous and as you can imagine of any authentic Parisian pastries, a tad involved. Nevertheless, there are also the relatively simple and delicious ones, such as irresistible Madeleines and crunchy little cookies (Croques).
My favorite part of the book is the little tidbits about how Dorie Greenspan managed to get the different patissiers to part with some of their signature recipes. I also like the hand illustrations of Paris and the patisseries. The drawings are reminiscent of the illustrations by Quentin Blake for Roald Dahl's books. This book does a great job of showing that the North was in many cases as much of a battle ground for the civil rights movement than the south was. While many of the discriminatory laws were not codified like they were in the south, racism was as much of an institution in Chicago, Philadelphia and New York as anywhere else. Also, the north had the growing suburbs which always were opposed to any minority moving into their presence.
If you are interested in an eye opening examination of how the war to defeat racism was really an American fight, then I strong recommend you read Sweet Land of Liberty. It is certainly about the forgotten fight for civil rights.』

It is true that organization and activism came earlier to the North, where during the Great Depression and on through the aftermath of World War II, "devout churchwomen, lawyers, laborers, Democrats, Republicans, Socialists and Communists marched together on picket lines, lobbied public officials and joined in lawsuits against segregated housing and schools." The toil of Northern change agents fostered and informed the tactics used in the South, and the Southern initiatives and successes enheartened Northern activists. In the North, people of color were more likely to be able to attend public events and shop in the same stores with whites, but infamous unwritten "Jim Crow laws" prevented all blacks in the U.S. from, for example, being able to stay overnight while traveling in any but a few locations known through the elaborate cultural grapevine. Among these venues were the YMCAs in Northern cities where Christian principle had won out over racial bias, though not without the push of concerned citizens, including many strong, dedicated churchwomen of both races. These small victories were an inspiration to Southern blacks who either migrated North hoping for a brighter future or joined the battle at home in the 1960s.
But the right to watch a movie was hardly a satisfaction to masses of people living in poverty and losing out on the great dream of all Americans --- the right to an equal and excellent education. That right, it seemed, could not be made a reality despite all the legislation designed to guarantee it. The key to securing equality in public education lay in securing equality in housing. This was a drama that is still being played out in America. Gerrymandering had its nefarious role in underpinning de facto school segregation. Black neighborhoods could be written off the map, a racist tactic practiced on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line. School busing was one of many strategies to circumvent the phenomena of gerrymandering, ghetto-ization and "white flight," all of which left African American families in the dust and their children in schools as inferior as those of the years of legal segregation.
The book sings the unsung, people like Roxanne Jones, a southern migrant to Philadelphia, who, abandoned by her alcoholic husband, was challenged by the issues facing African American women in the projects. "Public housing never lived up to its promise. Cheap construction caused all sorts of problems...the corridors were dimly lit and dangerous. The lawns surrounding the towers were muddy and trash strewn." Unmarried mothers were under constant surveillance by welfare workers and increasingly marginalized by lack of employment, unfair credit practices and lack of representation within the systems that regulated their economic existence. Jones organized others and spearheaded initiatives to raise welfare rates (in the early 1970s, "a family of four barely survived on the average annual payment of $3,600). As Sugrue puts it, "Jones did not see litigation and community organizing as antithetical" and had no hesitation to lead protests, once getting arrested for throwing a shoe through a window of the Pennsylvania state capitol.
As Sugrue is careful to point out, whites in general have had more resources of social capital to bring to bear than their black fellow citizens. Withdrawal from mixed or marginal neighborhoods, or gentrification of historic areas forcing poor inhabitants out, has become new factors affecting the quality of schools and the livability of cities and towns. True integration in America is still a rarity.
SWEET LAND OF LIBERTY comes to us at a telling time in our nation's history when many of the struggles highlighted in its pages are still being fought in subtle ways as we face the hopeful future. It will be read by thoughtful students of our racial history. Perhaps by remembering the past, we will not be condemned to repeat it.

(A panoramic history) 『Sweet Land of Liberty is a sweeping history of civil rights in the modern United States. This book challenges the conventional wisdom by moving past the well-told histories of the Jim Crow in South. Thomas Sugrue weaves together the life histories of important grassroots activists like Anna Hedgeman, Henry Lee Moon, Morris Milgram, Cecil Moore, and Roxanne Jones, national political figures, including Martin Luther King, Jr. and Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon, and civil rights groups big and small. There are lots of surprises in these pages. I mean, it's candy. Not only is it candy, it's milk chocolate, and candy (especially milk chocolate) should be sweet.
However, these chips bring together that perfect balance of savory versus sweet. Like chocolate covered pretzels, but better because they're potato chips! The little ridges help with the texture, I think that was key, or perhaps I am just biased towards ridged potato chips.

The front band is comfortable, but for my foot it was a little narrow. I can still wear them, but will not for prolonged periods of standing. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (great soundtrack) 『This is a good movie about explosive late 60s race relations. But the soundtrack is not listed on Amazon. So I will use the movie entry to review the soundtack.
Quincy Jones, one of the absolute best film composers of this time, wrote the Lost Man Soundtrack, and it is excellent. It holds a lot of soul and blues by unknown singers, and lots of electrified flutes and heavy fuzz bass. It is typlically outstanding work by Jones, who understood jazz and blues better than any composer of the period. He also understood how to exploit tone color to get the maximum tension from the film.
The music, however, holds up beautifully on its own, and I would encourage anyone to seek out this soundtrack on vynal, until someone has the good sense to reissue The Lost Man score.』
(Good intentions, bad script) 『Starting with a gripping, truly firstclass title score and equally touching, well fotographed views of Philadelphia's poor downtown neighbourhoods, this film spirals gradually downward and left me disappointed. The script ist bad: Most of the time people stand around and don't really have to say much to each other - you almost feel pity for the actors who certainly would have been able to deliver better performances, if the script had allowed them to. The movie is based on the same story as Carol Reed's Odd Man Out - in my opinion one of the best movies of all times. Odd Man Out focuses on the main character, his doubts, his desperation and the reaction of the people he meets as a helpless, severely wounded man on the run after falling off a getaway car rushing from the scene of a robbery he had planned. The Lost Man, by comparison, does never appear to be really lost. He can contact his friends easily after he escapes alone from the scene of the robbery, despite a bullet wound he appears to be in perfect physical condition, and apparently it poses no problem to pass through road blocks as long as you have a social worker handy who loves you, does not question your motives - and owns a station wagon. I suppose that the attitudes of the characters can be explained by the political and social climate of the late Sixties but it is sad that nobody let Sidney Poitier do in this film what James Mason did in Odd Man out.』
