(Sparkler In Mid-Air)
When Catie Curtis hit the scene with her marvelous self-titled CD Catie Curtis and bolstered her reputation with strong sets like A Crash Course in Roses, she was a marvelous new voice on the folk scene. With her last CD Long Night Moon, she was still in top form as she focused on becoming an adoptive parent. This CD on the Compass label is another strong set with Catie's unique sense of melody and her vocals at times breathless and vulnerable, at times swooping and ecstatic. "Sweet Life" has a crack instrumental backing with Andrea Zonn who released her own solo set Love Goes On singing supporting vocals on seven tracks. Alison Prestwood who has worked with Bonnie Raitt also contributes with a lively bass.

The set focuses on the joys of domestic life. On her web site, Catie is quoted about the sunny focus of this set, "There are lots of reasons to be unhappy or anxious at this time, and I think the album is as much about resilience as anything. In order to stay sane&keep moving forward, you have to be able to look at all the bad news around you and still see the beauty that is there alongside the trouble."

The title track echoes overcoming adversity, "I had lots of big plans for tomorrow, most of them probably won't come true, And maybe it's a bitter pill to swallow, but it led me here to this sweet life beside you." "Are You Ready to Fly" charms with memories of good friends who part when summer ends, "On we go down crooked roads, alone to who knows where, Burning this moment like a sparkler in mid-air." "For Now" shines soft&slow with a gentle melody like an adult lullaby, "Let go of all your heart's holding, everything weighing you down; And lay here with me, let the world be for now." "Happy" is a ray of sunshine that reminds me of a different song with the same name that is the excellent title track on David Carn's excellent CD Happy. "Sing" puts a smile on your face with Catie's resolve to get through adversity, "To sing through all the danger, through all the thunder&the pouring rain, we sing to draw a circle around us, when trouble has found us, sing." Catie covers Death Cab for Cutie's "Soul Meets Body" and adopts the lovely melody so completely that one has to look closely to see it is the only song on the set she did not write, "I want to live where soul meets body&let the sun wrap its arms around me." When I first listened to this set, I thought it was a good Curtis album. However, with repeated listenings, depth is revealed. This is a GREAT Curtis set. Songs such as the vaudeville-like "Lovely," the beautiful melody on "Fools" and the parental confusion of "The Princess&the Mermaid" allow for no weak tracks. Catie concludes the set with the powerful song "Over" that regrets an ending, "Every end is a beginning&the thread lies underneath; A river born in the mountains starts over in the sea; And if we're only, only tiny grains of sand, then hold me, hold me, Don't let me slip through your hands." Catie Curtis is in fine form on this outstanding CD. Bravo!

(A Pingu fan)

(Gotta love Pingu)

(Buy more than 1 copy of these!!!)

(In love with Pingu)

(Wonderfully witty)
My daughter has always loved Pingu and it has always been a top choice on our TiVO menu. When the Sprout channel stopped individually listing it, we were in big trouble, so the dvds have been life-savers!
This is the sweetest little video. Any child at any age and adults enjoy the silly little stories. A refreshing change from violence and yelling in other childrens videos. No one has to die but still has little life choices for children. Not sophisticated but a joy to watch.
Pingu? What in the world is a Pingu? Pingu is a claymation style animated series about a little penguin and his antics. You cannot help but to fall in love with this show.

My son loves Pingu so much, he has worn out the 2 different dvd's available to the US. We are purchasing another set of dvd's so that we can all continue with our Pingu Addiction.

Pingu not only has great story lines but you can actually have your child fill in his own words to flesh out the story. This teaches your children how to not only use their own imagination but to also express themselves through the art of storytelling.

My son is now 4 but we found these dvd's when he was approximately 18months old and he is an old pro at telling his story. Each time he watches the dvd's he adds more and more to the story and the dialogue.

There are great little life lessons in each and every episode, that you do not even consciously realize your children are picking up on. They will learn about compassion, family values, forgiveness, and even responsibility. There are so many more lessons also that will be taken away from these shows. Powerful stuff for a show that does not even have a true dialogue.

I recommend Pingu to anyone and enjoy!

Tanya D. Doran

I would recomend this video to children of all ages and even adults. My kids ages 3 and 1 can't get enough of this funny penguin. All stories have a positive and educational message. We are waiting for more releases...
Great and wholesome viewing fun for children. I wish they would broadcast it regularly here in the states.
Welcome to the world of Pingu! Pingu is a charming and cheeky young penguin who lives in the snow and ice of the South Pole. The mischievous penguin often finds himself in tricky and comical situations, but he always learns a valuable lesson. Pingu spends his days with his parents and baby sister, Pinga, as well as his best friends, Robbie the Seal. In Pingu's community, everyone speaks "Penguinese," a humorous, expressive and universal language. The award-winning Pingu is a classic, stop-frame claymation series that appeals to millions worldwide, as they follow the fun-filled adventures of the lovable penguin. Approx. Run Time: 30 minutes

(Great DVD!)

(Wild Wild West Review)

(Awesome Movie for Kids!!)

(Terrible Two's Tantrum-Stopper)

(Okay)
My daughter just turned 3 and loves Elmo! She really likes this DVD! I'd say it's a good buy for your child if they are an Elmo fan!
My son is 3 months old and is very entertained by this video. He looks at the video and coes with a few arm and hand movements. I find that the video is a fun tool for learning and recommend it for young children.
My little brother watched this movie over and over. It is educational and fun. I bought it recently to show my husband. Love it!!
We took this on a 10-hour flight to keep our 24-month-old occupied and she was entranced immediately. Admittedly, Elmo was already her favorite character so the odds were in our favor, but this video has a charming selection of vignettes associated with the title. It's good-humored, has some great sing-along songs and as you would expect it's also informative-educational; pure Sesame Street. We now have a 2-year-old who likes to gallop around the house shouting 'Ee-harrr' and practice putting a blanket and bridle on an imaginary pony.
This product is fine. If your kid is obsessed with Elmo, it's a good one. I liked other ones better though.

(The Czech"thing")

(If you see one foreign movie, see this one!)

(My Favourite Movie)

(Whimsical look at village life)

(A Czech Classic)
This movie is a must for everybody who wants to underestand the Czech nature. This is not the Prague, this is the village. The different faces of one country. The great Czecho-Slovak casting features the superb actors of the socialist Czecho-Slovak era. And we should not forget the Hungarian actor playing Otik. A very soft and pleasant journey through even more pleasant Czech village summer. I love this movie and I was looking long time to find it in English... Finally... I think I get it as Xmass present for my wife. She has to underestand... the Czech nature.
What a delight! Forget the Holywood for one night and see this marvel of cinematography. You will not only be entertained in the best way movie can offer, you will be educated about people of socialism era in east Europe as well. This movies portrays life, mentality and values of ordinary villagers, whose ambitions were simple - walk trough life with a little of joy and smile on the lips. The story has a bad guy too, of course, but people in this movie, so realistic and rooted, will capture your heart. The Oscar winner director Jiri Menzel put on the screen a life with all its dimensions and he did it great - again. And by the way - you will laugh your lungs out, providing you do not laugh only at Adam Sendlers.
It's not Hollywood - it's better! I tell everyone that I love this movie. If you are comfortable with English subtitles or can understand the Czech language, buy it. You'll want to see it more than once. If it's ever on TV in your part of the world (which is how I found it), don't miss it. After you see it, you'll be rushing back to amazon.com to buy it!
"My Sweet Little Village"is a fantastic portrayal of village life and mentality in Central Europe. Set somewhere in the Czech countryside during the 1980s, the film focuses around the village simpleton Otik and the portly farm collective truck driver who has to work with him. Along the way, viewers meet all of the often odd denizens of the village. Menzel is a masterful director as his film is both funny and endearing. The actors also do a fantastic job. What makes this film so outstanding is that it is an almost perfect reflection of rural life in this part of Europe, which anyone who has spent even a little time in the villages of e.g. the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, etc. can attest to.
This movie which is well known to Czechs does a wonderful job of capturing the spirit of a Czech village (under communism) and the subtle ways in which people managed to live under those circumstances. While some of the context may be incomprehensible to foreigners the insight provided is invaluable.

(Alice Sweet Alice)

(Alice Sweet Alice)

(Cuts deep to the heart...)

(boring)

(Neglected horror gem)
I,m watchibg Alice Sweet Alice for the first time. I'm at the scene where she is hooked up to a lie detector after "Alice stabs her Aunt or does she? This is on top of my list of favorite horror films. This movie is very interesting. It's funny when alice drops the lie detector machine on the floor LOL, and the guy says "That little bitch is dumping your machine on the floor". Great film..i recomened everyone who like good suspence, horror and humor to watch it or better yet buy the DVD.
This horror story gets your attention right away. You want to find out what happens since you see Brooks Shields name in the credits. She is around for a while but is gone before the ending credits. Her 1st film I believe. She has a presence even at her young age in this flick. Good to see if for nothing else a historic moment in an actor's filmography(shields).
This 1976 classic pre-slasher flick holds a special place in my heart. There are certain weak spots in the special effects or acting in spots, but over all this is a terrific horror movie. A pre-teen Brooke Shields is marvelous in her cinematic debut role as the ill-fated Karen who is killed a half-hour or so into the movie at her first Communion. Best actress honors (in this flick, anyway) should be awarded to the 13-year-old Paula Sheppard, who is extraordinary in the title role: Alice, the troubled girl who is lashing out at the family and the world who seem to think she should be treated like a second-class citizen for reasons that are revealed in the movie. The pacing is usually well set throughout the film, building suspense in appropriate scenes, casting shadows of suspicion at Alice, making you wonder if she is the killer...and if not her, then who is it??? I've read a few reviews of this movie claiming that there is too much screaming and hysteria by characters, just because they or someone they know got stabbed 6 or 7 times by a long knife. And although I'll admit that the acting and script has occasional weak moments, I have to say that if someone stabbed ME 6 or 7 times with a long, sharp knife, I might be proned to be a bit peeved and scream a little. But that's just me. The occasional poke at Catholic doctrine and dogma are made in this film, but over all, this is a film about people...and human frailty...and insanity! There are some murders, some violence, some blood...but for the most part, none of it is too graphic or overdone. The days of the real slasher movies had not yet begun when this was made. As I said, there are a few weak moments in the script, acting and special effects. But these are minimal. This is a great movie primarily. Suspenseful, with action, not too excessive on the violence, well paced...and even when you know who the killer is, you're still not prepared for the 'killer ending'! So, let me end by saying I highly recommend this movie, (but that's just me) and close by reminding you once again that you are not prepared for the 'killer ending'!
KILLER ENDING!!

I got tired of all the incessant complaining and screaming on the part of most of the characters. It is so bad, that I cringed when someone got killed. Not because of how they died or why . . . but because of all the non-stop hollering. Both killers dress the same, right down to the gloves. Come on. Lame. I thought about giving this movie two stars for pitty sake, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Skip this one.
This movie was originally shown in my native UK as Communion and has also been issued under the title Holy Terror .For my money these are better titles as they convey the religious theme which underpins the movie .

One note of caution at the outset-while Brook Shields gets top billing on the box she is not the star and her character dies inside 10 minutes of the start .The real star of this edgy and dark movie is Paula Shepherd in the title role .

The setting is Patterson,New Jersey sometime in the early 1960's (a JFK poster is prominent in one scene).Alice is a disturbed 11 year old with a penchant for wearing Halloween masks at all times of the year and a propensity for bullying her more timid sister Karen (Shields) .On the day of her first communion Karen is strangled by a figure wearing a mask like Alice's and a yellow raincoat of the type she often wears .The investigating police officer involved ,Brenner(Tom Signorelli)and her Aunt Annie (Jane Lowry)believe Alice is the killer and Annie is soon afterwards attacked by the same figure that killed Karen .She publicly names Alice who is incarcerated in a state juvenile mental facility.

During her incarceration the killing continues -her father being a victim .Alice is released and while the police are baffled the audience is let in on the secret of the killer well before the climax .It is a fervent Catholic who has grudge aginst Alice's family and who is obsessed by one member of the family-a priest .

This is a very dark movie and deeply pessimistic in its conclusions .Alice may be guiltless of these particular crimes but is deeply disturbed and has the potential for violence and lots of it.she is an animal whose claws have not yet grown out but she does have them and her time will soon come .In some respects this movie is a counterblast to The Exorcist .In that movie salvation was found in the rites and faith of Catholicism -and to be precise in Conservative Catholicism ,not the progressive wing as represented by Father Karren.
Here religion is shown as helpless -as murder is done the carvesd Saints and Christ look on helpless .cathaolicism in this movie is not the cure for the problem -it is the cause of the problem and its anti-clerical stance will offend many viewers.

This is a multi-layered and disturbing movie that tells us "nothing is simple and nobody gets saved"
It suggests we are helpless in the face of evil and unless you are willing to deal with that message dont watch the movie

Its a dark and glistening gem but not for everybody

Paula Sheppard is Alice, a pouty, petulant problem child at that awkward age living with her precocious little sister Karen (Brooke Shields) and single mom. When Karen is murdered during her first communion and Alice takes her place in line, suspicion immediately falls on her. Then a diminutive killer in a yellow slicker and opaque mask continues the reign of terror, and Alice's estranged father takes up the investigation to prove her innocence. Director Alfred Sole has acknowledged a debt to Nicolas Roeg'sDon't Look Now, butAlice, Sweet Aliceis really in the Hitchcock mold, a stylish, smartly executed psychological suspense thriller. The violence is rarely graphic but often grueling and always harrowing, and the deaths reverberate through the film in genuine and sometimes hysterical outpourings of grief. Even when Sole reveals the killer's identity in a startling moment halfway through (à laVertigo), the tension never lets up. The original title of the film,Communion, better captures the Catholic elements of guilt, sacrifice, and redemption that become central to the film (another tip to Hitchcock). Only a couple of grotesque caricatures (notably an obese pedophile landlord) and a few rough moments (largely special effects scenes, likely due to budgetary constraints) mar this otherwise intelligent and well executed thriller. The DVD also features an insightful commentary track by director Alfred Sole and editor Edward Salier and an alternate credits sequence (identical but for the film's title), as well as brief biographies and filmographies and a stills gallery.--Sean Axmaker

The title is a smidge misleading, as it is actually a very good, well-produced suspense film. Admittedly, the actress playing the female love intrest was probably just put in to give it that romantic tinge to draw rental dollars, but the other actors in the movie do a pretty convincing job of pulling off interesting, round characters. 'Course, it's not worth the seventy-some dollar rental-market price.

(Marcie you made egg soup!!!!!!!!! Aughhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

(Who every heard of an Easter Beagle? before Charles Schultz!)

(it's the easter beagle, charlie brown)

(Child-pleasing movie with fun bonus episode!)

(Excellent remastered Charlie Brown DVD)
I like this special its very funny. I love how Marcie can't cook good and she asks "uh Sir how do we color the eggs after we fry them?" Later when Snoopy gives them some eggs Marcie asks what do we do with them and Peppermint Patty says "We eat them we put a little salt on them and we eat them." Marcie puts salt on the egg and then crunches down on the shell and says "Tastes terrible Sir." So funny and there's also the Arbor day special that's funny too but I don't care for the voice they used for Lucy. Great DVD. I'll have to get it. I had the old one but it got old so I thew it away.
Never laughed so much during the original classic Peanuts Christmas or Halloween shows, but this one is a hoot! The kids find nothing BUT Christmas items as they search for Easter goodies, seems like today even though unfortunately we have been dealing with this nightmare since the 1970s! Peppermint Patty trying to dye eggs as Marci constantly cooks them in every imaginable way, BUT hard-boiled. Buy it, watch it with your kids and find you're both "tee-hee"ing. Enjoy!
it brings back memories, it's innocent, cute, funny and great for the who family to see regardless of age.
I am a little biased b/c my 2yo is OBSESSED with Snoopy, but this was a fun DVD. Easter Beagle is a classic and I especially enjoyed the part where Peppermint Patty tried to teach Marcie to color eggs. Easter Beagle is a classic and is enjoyable for us nostalgic adults too! And Charlie Brown--oops, I mean Schultz--allowed the female characters to be more likeable in this one, which is not usually the case. The bonus episode, Arbor Day, was cute and not an episode I'd seen before. Best of all, my 2yo loooooooves this DVD b/c there are plenty of SNOOPY scenes which cause lots of happy giggles! Definintely two thumbs up from us!
Product as described. Perfect condition. Fast arrival. Extra snippets and specials on the DVD. Would recommend seller without hesitation.

The thirteenth installment in the evergreen Charlie Brown animated series, this is a delightful romp through the rites of spring. The running gag that holds this string of episodic misadventures together is Peppermint Patty's futile attempts at explaining how to make Easter eggs to Marcy. Highlights of this rather surreal Peanuts outing include Snoopy's dancing with little bunny rabbits inside a kaleidoscope, Sally heading to the mall to purchase a pair of platform shoes (this video was made in 1974), and Woodstock's lavishly equipped bachelor-pad birdhouse. As with the best of the Peanuts cartoons, this will entertain children and adults alike, and is one of the last of the series to feature a music score by Vince Guaraldi.--Kristian St. Clair
