They are made here in the USA and all natural. My vet told me to feed my dogs sweet potatoes or pumpkin and these treats fit the bill. So I ordered them through Amazon. My dogs beg for these. I have now ordered them three times and will continue to do so.』

There are a lot of feel-good songs here, where The Mating Game was a lot heavier on torch songs. There are also some unabashedly sexy songs on this album--Get What I Want, Drink You Sober, and (in the online extras) Trois--while there were none on The Mating Game.
The flip side of that is that none of the songs on Drama reach much emotional depth. "A Moment" has the most emotional depth of the lot, and it's still a "feel-good" song. "Everything" is sentimental but there's a difference between sentiment and emotion, and it's another "feel-good" song too. "Drama" and "Waking Up" are the only torch songs here, and neither one is a patch on Bitter:Sweet's work on The Mating Game.
Speaking of which, "Trouble" is a fun little song unless you're familiar with "Dirty Laundry" from The Mating Game, which covered the same territory about five times better. It's not that "Trouble" is bad because it's not, it's that "Dirty Laundry" is outstanding.
Shana's also reined in some of the wild poesy that marked her lyrics in The Mating Game, lyrics that were sometimes amazing and sometimes inscrutable. One thing that hasn't changed is that you can still do an easy drinking game: whenever she sings "drink", take one.
Don't get me wrong, I love the album (see the 5 stars I rated it?). But the musical choices are decidedly different: light, bouncy, playful, and sexy. Drama is certainly not The Mating Game II.
One other difference: this album comes with a lyric sheet for all of the songs except "Trouble". I love Shana's voice, but she favors interpretation over enunciation, and when combined with occasional odd choices of lyrics, frequent unexpected changes of cadence, and her whistled sibilants, it can be difficult to understand what she's singing at times.』
(Unique music for the mature ear) 『This album by the duo Bitter:Sweet (Shana Halligan and Kiran Shahani) and is a unique blend of jazz, rock, electronic and smooth music. It refines the sound made in their initial album The Mating Game. Shana Halligan has a smooth and sensuous voice and there is an obvious influence from "The Supreme Beings of Leisure" sound which Kiran Shahani founded with Rick Torres.
The music is very melodic and has some very memorable melodies which includes the title track. A thoroughly likable album that I purchased on iTunes first but then felt the need to get the fidelity of the CD so that I could get more enjoyment.』

This album is a lot more diverse and varied, which keeps you interested start to finish. One minor complaint is the singer's need to lisp her s'es seemingly on purpose. "Sugar Mama" also sounds embarrassingly like "Don't Worry, Be Happy."

(Harmonies and stylistics) 『I admit it: this is less a review and more of a compulsion to weigh in on the debate, as both a performer of early music and a longtime shapenote singer.
First of all, this is Anonymous 4, and these women are much to polished and professional to do anything less than magnificent. That being said, this is Anonymous 4, and they worked for years on perfecting their sound and in particular the blend of their four voices. They cannot be expected to sound like four random singers at a Sacred Harp convention, where anyone and everyone is welcome. Those who have said that this sacred music is for everyone are right: it is for everyone, back porch singers and trained professional alike. Anonymous 4 just happens to fall into the latter group. To say that this music only belongs to "common folk" (if you define that as people of little or no vocal training) is just ludicrous. That being said, A4 does have fun with the music. They know they're not singing chants and motets, so they alter the style of their singing, but within the boundaries of how their voices blend best. So are their scoops and slides too much or too little? That's a call that each individual listener will have to make. (Though I've heard back country shapenote singers do a lot more embellishment than what these ladies do!)
Second, in response to the critiques about harmony: that's exactly what shapenote singing is. What's more, this music was traditionally written with the melody in the tenor, not the soprano (which is what we are more used to). So yes, the melody is going to get buried until your ears get used to hearing the melody in the middle of the vocal parts rather than on top. That's not getting carried away with harmonic acrobatics: that's singing the music as it was written.
Finally, as to my rating, I base the 5 stars on how well this ensemble accomplished what they set out to do: supremely well, as always. Is it a CD I listen to everyday? Honestly I don't often listen to any of the A4 CDs I have, simply because I'm not often in the mood for chant! (I will say that I listen to American Angels more than any other A4 CD I own.) But when I do want this kind of music, there's nobody better!』

"Shall We Gather at the River" is performed with a clarity and loveliness that makes us forget that it's normally sung as background to movies about the Great Depression. Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (The Sweet Hereafter of Bogus Film Criticism) 『'The Sweet Hereafter' concerns the tragic effect of a school bus crash on the townspeople in a rural town. Many critics were afraid to judge the film on its own merits and placed it on a pedestal where they declared such a film "off limits" to any kind of real criticism. Unconsciously the subject matter affected their judgments. Here was a film about a very delicate subject--the death of innocent children. The characters in the film (parents of the deceased children) were all shattered. It was as if criticizing the film was akin to criticizing these parents as well as any parent who had experienced such a tragic loss. But from the point of view of effective drama, the film is virtually a complete failure. Very little of it rings true at all.
Except for some very nice cinematography and an affecting musical score, 'The Sweet Hereafter' plods along at a snail's pace. The director's intent is to display the range of emotions these parents felt in the aftermath of losing their children. But what is so profound about focusing on such grief? The main character, a negligence lawyer, goes around the town convincing the parents to join in a class action lawsuit against the unspecified person or situation which caused the terrible accident. Most of the parents he sees agree to join the lawsuit (a lot of these scenes with the parents are drawn out and could have been easily condensed). The lawyer finally encounters one man who gives him a hard time. This is perhaps the most dramatic conflict that comes up during the film. But this one towns person's opposition to joining the lawsuit is completely vague. Why is he so against joining the lawsuit? Why is so angry at the lawyer? Because he feels the lawyer is profiting at the expense of the townspeople? Even so, is it really believable that he doesn't want to get to the bottom of what happened as opposed to simply dropping the whole case?
The ending of the film is even more unbelievable. The negligence lawyer never seems to have a definitive plan to try the case. He alludes to various factors that caused the accident, such as a faulty guard rail or a defective bolt inside the bus. A real negligence lawyer would never have taken such a huge case in the first place without feeling that he could be successful. It almost seems like he thinks that he uncover the 'truth' during the discovery process. A real lawyer would have already had some tangible evidence (already uncovered) that would have convinced him to go forward. Furthermore, when the young survivor lies in her deposition, stating that the bus driver was driving too fast, the seemingly smart lawyer folds up like a deck of cards and decides not to cross-examine her. A real lawyer could have made mince-meat of her but he chooses to quit the case and leave all his clients in the lurch. In real life he probably would have been hauled in front of an ethics board.
And why does the young survivor decide to lie in the end? Why does she lie knowing that she is accusing the innocent bus driver? Why does she want to case to 'go away'? Is it that she's so traumatized by the accident that she simply wants to forget about it? Everything is left so open and vague in this film that we never understand any of the characters' motivations.
Lastly, there's a lot of lame talk (mostly over the phone) between the lawyer and his drug-addicted, rebellious daughter. Seemingly there's supposed to be some kind of parallel between the lawyer's personal angst and the angst of the townspeople (this is the lawyer's defense when that one townspeople berates him before the climactic deposition scene). All this conflict between the lawyer and the daughter is gratuitous and simply does not work cinematically. We hardly ever see those two characters together and their conflict is basically a separate story which has no real place in this film.
The Sweet Hereafter basically lacks substance. It congratulates itself for displaying the raw emotion of grief but lacks a central antagonist to engage us. An examination of grief in itself is not enough to sustain an entire story. Whenever conflicts do arise in this film, they are episodic, unclearly motivated and for the most part, lacking the ring of truth. If you're strictly into atmosphere and mood, this is the film for you. But if you're looking for a strong story arc with convincing conflicts, you will not find it in 'The Sweet Hereafter'.

(bone chilling drama at its best) 『The Sweet Hereafter is a film you're not likely to forget anytime soon. The movie portrays human beings as they can really be--greedy, confused after a huge tragic loss, in denial of guilt and more. The plot moves along at a good pace and the storyline is absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately, this movie is not for everyone since the plot is rather haunting and dark; this is anything but a family film. The actors do a superb job and the cinematography is excellent.
When the action begins, an ambulance chasing lawyer Mitchell Stevens (played by Ian Holm) races up to a small Canadian town after a school bus accident has cost the lives of most of the small town's children. Mitchell approaches the townsfolk to build a huge lawsuit against the people whom he believes he can determine to be guilty for having caused the accident. Perhaps the school bus wasn't regularly maintained--or maybe the manufacturer of the bus used poor quality bolts; Mitchell doesn't care, he just wants a piece of the action.
Of course, some embrace the idea of a lawsuit--but yet others want to forget about any trial and they make no bones about it. In particular, look for Tom McCamus who plays Sam Burnell, a father with a dirty secret and Sarah Polley plays Sam's daughter Nicole. While Sam wants the lawsuit to pay medical bills and probably make a buck off this lemon, his daughter Nicole is not so comfortable with this idea. We come to see that so many of the townsfolk have dark secrets of their own; and even the lawyer Mitchell Stevens has a rather troubled relationship with his daughter Zoë (played wonderfully by Caerthan Banks). There is also the very emotionally scarred bus driver who survived the accident, Dolores Discolt (Gabrielle Rose), who eventually makes it plain that she doesn't want to be judged in a court of law by a jury made up of people who don't know her at all.
As secrets and the rest of the plot unfold, questions arise: Will Dolores change her mind about the lawsuit and want it after all? What about the father of two children who saw the tragedy as he followed the bus in his pickup--will Billy (Bruce Greenwood) ever change his mind and decide a lawsuit is a good idea? And what about Mitchell's own relationship with his daughter Zoë--is there any hope for things to get better between the two of them? Keep an eye out for excellent, practically seamless flashbacks and flash forwards that really impress me with just how smoothly they are woven into the film.
The DVD comes with a plethora of extras: we get an audio commentary by film director Adam Egoyan; and there is a Charlie Rose interview with Egoyan as well. I especially liked the "Q&A" extra with several members of the cast. We even get some biographies and filmographies, too.
All in all, The Sweet Hereafter is an excellent film that I highly recommend. Reserve it for a time when you can handle a heavy film about people and how they can truly be when confronted with a seemingly insurmountable loss. You won't regret watching it. 』
(Hauntingly beautiful!!) 『I saw this movie after I had read about it in a list of 100 daring movies. It truly is, in so many ways. The scene with the school bus is one I will never forget. There are many layers to this movie, and I enjoyed them.』
(Quiet, dreamlike, somber, and riveting) 『Don't watch this if you are subject to becoming depressed by sad movies. The Sweet Hereafter is, however, one of those films that has a dreamlike quality that sucks you in. The art of it is very appealing to me. Some will say it is slow, too quiet, a downer. But I think the emotion of it provides more than enough intensity.
The movie is based on a novel which is itself somewhat based on a true story of a small town in Texas where tragically many of the town's children were killed in a schoolbus accident, and ambulance-chasing lawyers descended on the town like a swarm of hungry locusts. The townspeople eventually received hundreds of millions of dollars in damages from a company which may or may not have really been responsible for the accident.
The movie takes this premise in a different direction. It focuses on one lawyer who comes to town and interviews witnesses, survivors, and moms and dads who lost their kids. The lawyer himself is going through a vaguely similar personal crisis -- losing his daughter to drugs. Great disruption is bubbling in the town because of the tragedy and the impending, potentially enriching, lawsuit. The ending is a surprise, turning everything upside down for a reason that has nothing to do with the accident, and no one will ever likely know the real reason.
What is the movie really about? It is about grief turning to boiling anger, mixed with greed. It is about the secret lives of ordinary people in small towns. It is about how justice can be meted out in strange ways.

It's not really sticking it to the man if that was what it was intended to do as most similar (related) films are.』
(Disgusting, this is nothing but one long Porno/Running marathon.) 『 The entire movie has no point, and certainly no purpose. What ever "Black Power" message this film was trying to make is lost. You'll find yourself spending most of your time trying to figure out just what in the hell this movie is about. This may have been one of the first "Black Power" movies from the 70's and it's also the worst.
Sweetback pretty much runs through the entire movie, and when he is not running, he is having sex. It only breaks from that cycle to show him beating up a cop or few. The weird thing about this film is that the "Sex" has nothing to do with anything! It's mostly just out of context the entire film. This movie really has no plot. It's actually just Melvin Van Peebles running from the city to the desert.
Watching this movie is like getting high. It's confusing, it makes no sense, and it's just strange as hell. "You bled my mamma, You bled my pappa, but you won't bleed me" get used to that phrase, because that's all you'll ever hear in the back tracking music this entire film. Interestingly enough Earthwind and Fire provided the music for this film, this being one of their earliest gigs. That's probably the only signifigant thing in this film worth taking note of.
I can't even think of a single solitary reason why this is worth watching today. It cetainly is not worth owning. I'm suprised this even made it from VHS to DVD. I mean I don't mind the badly recorded audio or visuals of this film, I expect that. There's plenty of low budget films that look horrible; however, a good low budget film makes up for that with an outstanding storyline. This waste of footage has neither.
I don't care if this is supposed to be a great "Black" accomplishment, this is trash! This is more of a great "Black" embarassment. If your looking for a 70's Black Power flick with a message I highly recommend "Watermelon Man." Now that's a great film.
The only thing this films stands as today is a reminder, that even people with absolutely no talent can produce something that generates them money.』

Melvin Van Peebles, who is highly regarded as the "Godfather of Modern Black Cinema" put everything he had on the line to get this film made, despite the Supreme Court, death threats. Bill Cosby even co-financed the film.
Ten years ago, I purchased "Sweetback" on VHS, and I was completely, blown away by this controversial, yet revolutinary, independent Black film. Bottom Line: If it weren't for Melvin Van Peebles raising the bar in filmmaking, there would be no Spike Lee or John Singleton.』 『Raw, jagged, and explosively angry,Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Songis a landmark in American independent cinema. The story, as such, concerns a couple who arrive in New York and have everything possible go wrong. It could have been funny, but Jack Lemmon- who I usually like- misses totally. Instead of being a sympathetic character, his constant bitching and whining about every misfortune becomes irritating, and eventually you don't care if anything happens to him. You almost want someone to finish him off and end the movie.
Sandy Dennis, who I always considered to be an adequate- not great- actress, actually hits the marks better, and her character is much more likeable.
Beware. Rent this one before you buy it. 』

Amazing Grace gives us plenty of laughs, snappy dialogue and many, many scenes that allow Moms Mabley to strut her stuff and entertain us as no other comedienne ever could!
The action starts just after Grace (Moms Mabley) returns to Baltimore after a family reunion. She quickly finds out that her next door neighbor, who she barely knows because he's new to the neighborhood, is running for Mayor of Baltimore! With her platonic buddy Forthwith Wilson (Slappy White) she spies on her new neighbors, Welton Waters (Moses Gunn) and his wife Creola (Rosalind Cash). When Moms find out that the city's corrupt political machine is buying the election of Waters to use him as a paid pawn, Grace vows to take action!
Grace boldly spies even on the current mayor and helps gather damaging information on him and his machine to help Welton Waters rid himself of the political machine and run a clean campaign. As other reviewers have noted, Grace's campaign speech near the end of the movie is truly stirring. Moms Mabley outperforms even herself with this heartfelt speech encouraging younger people to fight for a better future.
Of course, it may well seem that I gave it all away--but rest assured I didn't. There are cameo roles for Butterfly McQueen and Stepin Fetchit that help to make the movie truly special. Moreover, questions still remain. Will Waters be able to win running on a totally clean platform? Will the political establishment try to block Waters even after they are exposed as crooks--and, if so, how will they fight back at Welton Waters? What about Grace and her buddy Forthwith Wilson? Will they ever become more than just friends? Watch the movie and find out!
The cinematography could have been better in a couple of scenes; at one point Forthwith is dancing in Grace's living room and his head is partially cut off the top of the screen! The choreography works well, however, in crowd scenes including the scene in which Grace gives her speech encouraging younger people to make a better world.
Hey, this may have been a low budget film but I scarcely noticed and I really didn't care. People watch this film because they want so much to see the wonderful performances of Moms Mabley, Slappy White, James Karen as an aide to the corrupt white establishment, Butterfly McQueen--and Stepin Fetchit in a role that WASN'T demeaning to African Americans.
I highly recommend this film for fans of the stars in this movie; and if you want light hearted comedy with a touch of social commentary then this is the movie for you!

(Very fun intro to the intricacies of the pre-Revolutionary Court of Louis XVI) 『The reviewers were awfully hard on this one. I must admit that I found it an excellent and fascinating entertainment, a stimulus to look into the historical sources as there are obviously inaccuracies.
I liked Swank's interpretation of the character. She has a mission - perhaps even lying to herself, it is unclear - and needs a mentor to learn the ropes of the Court intrigues. She finds one in a gigolo, for whom she also apparently grows to have genuine affection. They form a team with her husband, to steal a necklace as a way to gain political clout. Along the way, they expertly con a corrupt Cardinal, whom they play for a fool via his outsized ambitions and appetites, enlist a sleazily funny magician/seer to help, and create a scandal of historic proportions. Once caught, everyone falls, including the monarchy.
What is so fun is the portrayal this offers of the way that government worked at the time, from aristocratic privilege to reward and punishment. in social and historical context. I found it fascinating, though would have wanted much more detail, which I can only get from books. The scandal was a catalyst that ended a monarchy that was rotten already.
Regarding the characters, the film adds much detail that can never be known. Thus, it is historical fiction. La Motte-Valois is ambitious and uses the leers available - sex, lies, and fraud. We do not know what she personally thought, etc. I found the acting uniformly excellent and subtle, with many layers that can be peeled away at later viewings. Perhaps she was a whore and simple con artist, perhaps her motives were noble to her. I liked the mix of motivations and characters. Her libertine husband is hilarious, her lover-mentor kind of sad in his love. The house minister is convincingly shrewd.
Recommended warmly for lovers of history and political intrigue.』

The movie is based on a true story, but the facts are twisted and the plot so complicated that I had a hard time understanding it or even caring. Jeanne should have been the villain of the case, but instead she's made to be a pathetic victim and brave heroine, and it doesn't make sense. The narration tells us that the affair of the necklace was a huge contributing factor in Marie Antoinette's downfall, but there's nothing in the plot to show this.
The casting of Hillary Swank as Jeanne and Adrien Brody as her husband was a big mistake; they're both too contemporary and ungainly to play in this delicate period piece and they look out of place. (The Tracker) 『There are five men in this story, none of whom have names. In the cast list they are called: The Tracker, The Fanatic, The Follower, The Veteran and The Fugitive. This is a brutal story told in a very non-brutal way. The story is told to us through a folk song. We see the actors as they trek across the continent led by the Tracker (David Gulpilil) who follows the trail left by the fugitive although none of the whites can see it. The Tracker walks, the white men ride horses. We understand from the beginning that The Fanatic (Gary Sweet) has a fear and hatred of natives that becomes exacerbated as he rides. As they come upon a village of natives, he cannot control himself and here the film could become brutal but while we see his facial contortions, see him mouth the words we hear the folk song and when the actual brutality occurs a native-type painting of the scene appears on the screen so that sensitive folks like yours truly will not be offended by the event. It is like cave art depicting the historical scene. As the story unfolds, each brutal scene is depicted thus and the song continues. One of the men, The Veteran (Grant Page), begins to realize that the hatred is uncalled for and feel sympathy for the natives. My favorite among a host of amazing scenes is the one long lingering shot of the face of the Fugitive (Noel Wilton) as he walks and then that of the Tracker and then each of the white men in turn. Nothing is said; you just linger with the camera on each of these men and read their thoughts in silence. Another great scene is the one where the Fanatic tells the Tracker how ignorant, helpless, shifty et cetera blacks are and why he feels it is his duty to whip them until they learn. All the while we know that the Tracker is in complete control of the situation and it is our fervent hope that all ends well for him. We enjoyed David Gulpilil in "Rabbit-Proof Fence" and "Walkabout" and thought that he was even better in this film directed by Rolf de Heer and filmed in Australia in 2002. It is 95 minutes long and is available on DVD. If you cannot find it locally, it is available at Amazon.com. We give this one a full five stars. 』

Ah, Rolf de Heer, how I adore your movies. You never fail to make my jaw drop, even when I see it coming from a mile away. And you can make anything funny, no matter how horrible, how brutal, the subject matter.
And this is no laughing matter: A tracker (David Gulpilil of Walkabout) has been hired to chase an aborigine charged with the killing of a white woman. With him are The Fanatic (Gary Sweet), the Veteran (Grant Page), and the Follower (Damon Gameau). We do not learn anyone's name in this film; their titles tell you most of what you need to know. The setting is the outback in 1922, when the aborigines were considered little better than the slaves were in America a few decades previous; a black man accused of killing a white woman was relatively sure to face a kangaroo court and swift justice at the end of a noose. Who wouldn't run? Yet, as we start out, we are fully convinced of the man's guilt; it is only gradually that an entirely different story unfolds. And as it does, complications ensue, to the point where the three white men are ready to turn on one another. And at the heart of it all, there is the tracker.
Pointed, darkly funny at times, brutal at others. As with all de Heer's films, the direction, cinematography, and acting are all exceptional. If you are not yet acquainted with the work of Rolf de Heer, this makes as good a starting point as any. I didn't like it quite as much as Bad Boy Bubby, but then that's like trying to decide whether you should go with the double-fudge ice cream or the triple chocolate cake. They're salty but better than others I've seen in terms of health) 『I think this is the best choice for babies in the cracker category in terms of health and likability. I had tried other types of crackers and they just threw them after biting into them. They like these and eat them and only sometimes throw them. Babies are amazing at how expressive they are when they don't want food offered to them.
My ten month old twins eat these crackers, but not every time they're offered, and they're fairly healthy with the possible exception of saltiness. They're by far the saltiest thing they eat.
Considering that they need to put things in their mouths due to teething and basic discovery of the world, this is a great product to have on hand just to give them something edible that can go in the mouth.
Getting it in a pack of 6 at this discount beats buying them one box at a time at the store. I haven't seen this in a big box store yet, so I believe this must be one of the better deals at the moment.

BUT the cars burn through batteries. One play session is enough to make the cars too weak to climb the bridge. I tried rechargeable batteries but they are not strong enough to make the cars climb the hills. Also, when we first bought the toy, the cars with fresh batteries would go very fast. It was fun to watch them go nuts, jump the track and drive over each other. But over time, even with fresh batteries, the cars got slower and weaker. I noticed fibers building up around the tire "axles" (even though we were running the cars only on the track on bare hardwood floors). I thought that may be the problem. I worked hard to get the fibers out, but it did not help the cars' performance. I do not recommend this toy.』

Some have stated that they would like to have seen more advanced houses like at the Grove Park Inn, but I can tell you from having tried to make big houses that there is no way to put those instructions in a book. Instructions for one house would have been bigger than this book and a lot of it is improvised. Personally, the one star review is totally uncalled for. Read the back cover. It clearly states 1 basic house plane and delivers on the rest of what it states.
But back to the book, the steps are all laid out for someone to follow and presents a lot of neat ideas for people to create their own or give it a different look than the houses presented in the book. The book is full of photos. There seems to be numerous pictures on every page that corresponds to what you are working on and every photo is in color. There has to be over 200 photos in this book. The timeline is a major help on knowing how long to expect at each step and allows me to schedule my house. My personal favorite is the Easter and will be doing this with my daughter this coming Easter. A must have for gingerbread fans.

The front band is comfortable, but for my foot it was a little narrow. I can still wear them, but will not for prolonged periods of standing.
