Clifton's Nursery
customer 's review (Meyer Lemons in Season, in NY, in October!)
(Lemon Tree)
(Sturdy little tree, great company)
(Cute little tree with a surprise)
(Awesome tree with very fragrant flowers!) Just harvested my first Meyer lemons, in NY, in October! This little tree is a family favorite! It lost all but three leaves last winter (it was a cold one, even indoors), and the branch on which the lemons were ripening was broken by the cat and repaired with electrical tape, then splinted with a sturdy paint-stirrer. In spite of all that, it grew new branches, flourished again, yesterday, after almost 14 months of ripening (!), even on a healed branch, I harvested three gorgeous thin-skinned, fragrant, juicy lemons, which I promptly made into tarts and curd. Well worth the wait. I am SO pleased! The tree which was a present for my wife arrived pale and punie. I ppeares to want to die.
FRED I received the tree about two months ago. Out of the box there were a couple of leaves that didn't survive the packing. In my original review I mentioned this problem and immediately received a message from John Dhanens, the owner and nursery manager of Clifton Farms offering his help to make sure that the tree pulls through and recovers from the trip. After a few weeks of settling in the tree is doing much better now and John sent along another message just to check on the tree and to make sure I was happy with the purchase. I have to say, in this day, this type of customer service and follow up is very rare indeed. I will be sure to tell everyone I know about John and his desire to make things right. In his own words; "Being a little guy, my philosophy is to be in it for the long haul, building long term relationships with customers... Glad to hear the tree is doing better..." Clifton Nursery and John has a new supporter in me. I am very pleased with the whole purchase and follow through. I was shocked to see how well packed this little tree was! It took forever to clear out all the packing peanuts, which I thought was great since they really protected the tree. Once I finally unwrapped everything and took it into my kitchen I removed the plastic bag under the pot to find two HUGE living bugs! I swear they were from outer space. I quickly moved the lemon tree and it now lives outdoors. I realize bugs do come with living plants but this was a surprise and a scary one at that! Otherwise, speedy delivery and excellent protective packaging! The lemon tree I received was taller than I expected, but it arrived with very fragrant flowers and was generally in descent shape. It probably isn't suitable for a bonsai-type of decorative indoor plant due to its height (~3 ft tall with a lengthy trunk), but it is still suitable for indoor or apartment use. I've had it for several weeks now and it has really rebounded from its initial condition and has produced a lot of new fragrant flowers. I'm serious--a lot of flowers! In general, this tree has become an awesome talking point and my friends really love it. I recently saw a Meyer lemon tree at a local plant nursery that looked smaller and was more like a bonzai tree, but it cost a lot more. I would definitely recommend purchasing this tree for yourself or as a gift. Fragrant flowers produce thin skinned, juicy lemons year round. Different than conventional lemons in that the taste is more sweeter, and less acid. Rind is thinner and more orangish in color than typical lemons. Evergreen. Full sun. Growing to about 8 to 10 feet tall, or pruned shorter. Rerations < Meyer Lemon Tree One Gallon >

(Great singing and dancing!)
(We like the kidsongs)
(Your kids will love it) Bought a few of these for my 4 year old nephew's b-day. Of course, he loved them as much as I did as a kid. Still great! I have 3 kids and a child care, the kids love it. We all know the songs! It gets the kids up singing and dancing around the house on rainy days and when it's done they want to do it again! My daughter fell in love with the video when we rented it from the libray, so we just had to buy it! We like the older kidsong tapes/DVD's - this one was ok, not one of our favorites though, could have been more animal oriented! If your kid likes any of the Kidsongs DVD your kid will love this as well. Dancing dolphins, mighty whales, singing chimpanzees, elegant elephants, wacky walruses, a regal rhinoceros and more animal friends co-star with the Kidsongs Kids in this magical journey through the animal kingdom. You'll love the kids' talented dog Bingo, be amazed by a real Bengal tiger, laugh at a llama, and sing along with delightful songs like "Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Hickory Dickory Dock," "Rockin' Robin," and more! (Review)
(Good CD)
(God! I love Lucinda)
(Not her best, but still great) After listening Lucinda Williams' album West I became an instant fan and bought a couple of more CDs right away. Car Wheels on a Gravel Road was nearly as good as West but somehow Sweet Old World appeared to be a bit too easy peace from an artist with this kind of talent. Lucinda Williams can do better. Don't get me wrong. Sweet Old World is not a poor album. On the contrary. But many of the songs are just beautiful "traditional" tracks without the soul tearing spices of songs on album West.
This was good but West is still the best. What can I say...her voice is great...I can listen to this over and over. Also check out "West" and "Car Wheels On a Gravel Road" Lucinda Williams has that southern rock, southern bluesy twang to her voice and music. Some of the songs are funky, but all of them enjoyable. You can't help but to start singing and moving your body. I recommend this CD if you what a little bit of country mixed with the blues, and a little rock-n-roll woven in. Lucinda Williams! On the surface her lyrics can sometimes seem so simple, but they always hit the mark.
This album was sandwiched in between Lucinda's two masterpieces -- her self-titled album and Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. It's a marvelous record that only suffers by comparison a little bit. Make this the third Lucinda album you buy. Granted,Sweet Old Worldisn't the masterpiece that 1988'sLucinda Williamsis. The too-simple explanations of "He Never Got Enough Love" aren't up to Williams's mile-high standards, and the arrangements throughout are often so similar to that previous release's that the melodic differences here aren't as clear as they might've been. But when she raises her vulnerable cry to sing the three, pained perspectives on suicide that are at the heart of this album--the title track, "Little Angel, Little Brother," and "Pineola"--Williams's very humanity provides its own proof that, while this world can indeed be cruel, it can also be oh so sweet.--David Cantwell Rerations < Sweet Old World >

(If I may opine - this is the best broadway CD you'll ever find!)
(MUSICALS)
(Great music well performed) Sutton Foster is a gift to all of us. Watch how she commits herself to everything she does. She doesn't SING a song, she LIVES it.
She has inspired many people to sing with their full energy. Her Millie is tops.
We were thrilled to record Gimme Gimme for the new CD: Liz Seymour - That Thing Called Love. If it hadn't been for Sutton's inspiration, this recording never would have happened.
Buy everything she does - she's that good!

If you'd like a pick -me -up, this is the show to listen to. Great music, a wonderful score, and just fun to listen to. Sutton Foster is just great in the lead. (I think her first show.) If you saw the movie, well, not so crazy, but the basics are still there. It would help a lot if you can catch a touring company or even a high school production. Then the music would make more sense. But try it, you'll like it. I'm only sorry I missed the B'way original. But I think it will be around in revival; it's such fun. I purchased the CD knowing nothing about the show when my yearly subscription to my local theater included Millie. When it came time to see the show a few months later I knew every word to every song having listened to it continuously. The CD is that good. It has turned into my all time favorite CD as well as show. (I ended up seeing it three times!)
Sutton Foster's voice was really showcased in "Not For The Life Of Me", "Jimmy" and my favorite "Gimme Gimme". Ms. Foster has such a powerful range and it's almost like these songs were written specifically for her. You will truly be singing along. You'll not only be singing but also performing a little foot tapping of your own to go along with the pros in "The Speed Test". This song is not meant for listening to in the car for all you'll want to do is dance! The entire cast is perfectly chosen. You will just love the duet "How The Other Half Lives" with Ms. Foster and Angela Christian. Prior to even seeing the show I felt the personalities of each really showed just via this song. Marc Kurdisch in "The Speed Test" was amazing! He sang so quickly it reminded me of that fast talking guy from the commercials (FedEx??) from years ago. I could go on and on - everybody was wonderful!!
The CD booklet itself is worth the $$ as it comes with a write-up about the Broadway show as well as photos.
Buy this CD if you love Broadway in the least! Heck even if you're not a Broadway fan - you will be after this CD!!!
I loved this item. It helped majoirly with my musical that I was auditiong for! it was grrrrrrreat! SO buy it! and btw AMAZON has great service. I got it in great condition within 3 days of my oline order. This is a great recording of music in the classic style of the grand musicals. The voices are spot on and the instrumentation is alive, especially with the horns adding excitement. Although it's based on the 1967 movie of the same name,Thoroughly Modern Millieis almost thoroughly new. Composer Jeanine Tesori (Violet) and lyricist Dick Scanlan wrote a whole batch of songs, while retaining a couple from the movie--including the Jimmy van Heusen-Sammy Cahn title tune--and recycling even older material (look for Victor Herbert's "I'm Falling in Love with Someone" and the inventively arranged "Nuttycracker Suite"). Miraculously, the show, set during the jazz age, doesn't feel stitched together, and Tesori does a great job cranking out swinging melodies. Sutton Foster is appropriately brassy as Millie, but she can also tone it down, as in the beginning of "Gimme Gimme" (of course, she then proceeds to project up to the last rafters as the song builds to its climax). Harriet Harris, as nasty Mrs. Meers, steals the show with "They Don't Know." Close your eyes, listen to her, and you'll be back in Broadway's golden age.--Elisabeth Vincentelli Rerations < Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Original Broadway Cast) >

customer 's review (charmingly funny)
(Wonderful -- get it)
(Heavenly!)
(BEATTY HAS NEVER BEEN MORE LIKABLE!)
(A classic.) "Heaven Can Wait" is a perfect film - it's funny, poignant, has a couple of unexpected plot twists, features Warren Beatty at his most sincere and beautiful - a wonderful investment of time and energy. I watched this movie for the first time about a month ago off cable and was so impressed I had to purchase the DVD to add to my library. Years ago when this was at the theater I assumed it was some sort of mockery against God, but it isn't at all. While not the same type of theme, I put the story line on par with The Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant). This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Although I have seen it several times, I recently purchased the DVD--this movie is a keeper!
The writing is bright and funny, and the cast is spot-on perfect. Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, Charles Grodin, Dyan Cannon, James Mason, Jack Warden, Buck Henry . . . what an amazing, talented group of actors, each doing what they do best.
"Heaven Can Wait" is one of those gems that will make you laugh out loud, no matter how many times you have seen it before.
And if you want to see another hilarious movie about death (Really!) also pick up Defending Your Life, by Albert Brooks. Hmmm . . . these two movies would make a great double feature.
I recently watched this film after not seeing it for at least a decade. It is just one of those movies you can watch whenever it comes on. Beatty is likable as the football pro who dies before his time and Julie Christie looks as good and as sexy as ever! Jack Warden is always welcome in any film. It still holds up today as a very good romantic/comedy. I guess I'm going to have to revisit Shampoo now. ;-b Some films have that magical ability to cleanly entertain the viewer, and make us feel good. Some do not. This one does, in Spades. Sadly, this film also shows how good an actor Warren Beatty could have been if he had stayed away from politics and stuck to acting. Because this film really shines with an entertaining plot with a moral lesson, a touching love interest, superb acting by the entire cast, a touch of class, and yes, a touch of that magic that some films manage and some don't. Again, this one does.
I shan't bother to rehash the plot--others here do that very well. Suffice to say I think that almost anyone with a pulse will be touched by, and entertained by, this excellent film. Highly recommended. A gung-ho and merciful angel (Buck Henry) pulls Joe Pendleton (Beatty), a football star, out of his body before his time, forcing the higher powers to come up with a substitute host. Joe settles on a vicious multimillionaire whose wife and partner are trying to kill him. Light, breezy, with not a mean bone in its body,Heavenis based on the 1941 filmHere Comes Mr. Jordan. Beatty is wonderfully daft and innocent as Joe, Jack Warden is on top of his form as Joe's trainer Corky, and Julie Christie appears to be playing a diaphanous summer dress. Great comic relief is provided by Dyan Cannon, Charles Grodin, and the notion that the 1978 Los Angeles Rams could go to the Superbowl.--Keith Simanton Rerations < Heaven Can Wait >
