Clifton's Nursery
customer 's review (A wonderful addition to our home (even in New York!)) We were really excited to receive our Meyer Lemon Tree, although in truth we were a little nervous about taking care of it in an apartment, and had tons of questions. We called the nursery several times for guidance, and each time we were so pleased with how friendly, helpful and patient the staff were - we felt as if we were dealing with a neighborhood garden center rather than someone all the way across the country in California. And we love the tree! Thank you so much! Meyer lemon trees first offer you fragrant flowers that produce thin skinned, juicy lemons year round. Different than conventional lemons in that the taste is more sweeter, and less acid. Rind is thinner and more orangish in color than typical lemons. Evergreen. Full sun. Hirt's Gardens
Origin: Central America&Mexico. A living tribute to ancient peoples, corn provides nourishment for body and soul. One of the three most important food crops of humankind, corn has evolved into many modern varieties: sweet, starch, parch, flint, dent, popcorn and ornamental.
Soil&Amendments: Corn needs rich soil to thrive. It produces best in soils amended generously with compost.
Culture: Corn needs warmth to germinate, but once germinated the plants will grow quite well in cool soils under wet conditions. Soak seeds overnight to aid germination. When danger of frost has passed, sow sweet corn 1-2" deep in rows that are 3' apart. Plant 2-3 seeds every 12". After seedlings reach 4-6" in height, thin to 1 plant per foot. Plant in blocks, clusters, or spirals, of at least four rows to insure the best wind pollination. Side dress with compost and aged manure if yellowing, or if growth seems stunted. (Dry, dull, and a terrible user interface)
(Great video - narrated by Alec Baldwin - not Ringo)
(James and the Red Balloon Is Awesome!)
(New Friends here!) I got this for my three year old, he is crazy about this series. I even found my self enjoying it. I like sharing as much time as I can with my son. This is great way to have conversations and be together. The added bonus is George Carlin is the Narrator.. A very enjoyable dvd as well as series. My toddler likes it. Her older brother hated it when he was of the appropriate age. But this adult finds it deadly dull to the point of painful. It's the only video of Thomas tank we ever bought, and it will be the last.
The DVD user interface is inexcusable. You have to sit through a LONG introduction before it lets you make a selection. The first time might be cute, the 50th time is enough to put a harried parent over the edge. If you pick the music, you don't get music, you get another menu screen requiring another button to be pressed. When the DVD is done, it defaults to some meaningless screen, not the menu page. To me, the lack of user-friendly interface is a deal breaker. This is a wonderful video to start your child on if you're not familiar with Thomas the Train. Alec Baldwin is the story teller and does such a marvelous job. I'm glad they finally got an actor to do the story telling! Anyway, the lead story tells about how James and the other trains are worried that the new hot air balloon will take away their passengers when, in fact, they learn that they have make MORE passengers because of the balloon. There's no name calling in this one, just a very nicely done video that all can enjoy. My little guy just loves it! It's very well done and the colors are so vibrant. Highly recommend! James And The Red Balloon has to be the best Thomas video I've seen in a long time. All the stories were great and they mostly taught the lesson of, Don't Judge A Book By It's Cover. The stories are very entertaining and funny too. Here they are:
James And The Red Balloon 5/5: Thomas takes a hot air balloon and is very excited to see it take off into the sky. But James arrives and is afraid that the balloon will take away all there passengers. Now Thomas is not so excited anymore after what James had said, is James right? Find out in this story.
Twin Trouble 4.5/5: Donald&Douglas do pretty much everything together. But when they both get in an accident, Donald blames Douglas and says that he pushed him into the hay wagon. So the twins refuse to talk to each other and Donald goes to work somewhere else. But the twins soon start to miss each other.
Edward The Really Useful Engine 4.5/5: All the big engines say that Edward is too old and needs to be retired. The news soon spreads to Sir Topham Hatt who immediately sends Edward away to help Stepney. But when Gordon stops on his hill, who should come and help him?
The World's Strongest Engine 6/5: Henry gets sent to the repairs after an accident with some freight cars and the only engine available to fill in Henry's spot is Diesel. Diesel is up to his no good tricks again, this time he wants to prove that he is the world's strongest engine by pulling all the freight cars at once. But his trick backfires on him and he ends up in a sticky situation, where the true world's strongest must pull away all the cars.
Rusty Saves The Day 4/5: Sir Topham Hatt closes down Skarloey and Rheneas' line due to the bad condition of it. Then Sir Topham Hatt closes the Quarry for 2 weeks because they are blasting there. Rusty uses this time to repair Skarloey and Rheneas' railway, but the engines find out that it will take longer than expected. Can they fix it in time?
Dunkin' Duncan 5/5: Duncan gets to careless at the inclined railway and ends up in a embarressing situation where he'll have Sir Topham Hatt to deal with.
"Down By The Docks"(Music Video)5/5: A very catchy song about the docks, gateway to the sea.
Again, great Thomas video, I guarantee that you will like it too. I hope my review has been helpful. :) Do you have Season 7 Characters? Yes I do! I know the deltic. It's D9000. (I can see her in her voice!)
(She is so talented)
(Big Wow)
(One of the best ever!) The first time I saw Kristin Chenoweth in a movie was the TV "Music Man". Just lately I listened to the "Wicked" soundtrack, and after that, I've been listening to Kristin's CDs whenever I can. This one is a jazzy, Broadway-type CD with fun, engaging songs. She's a different type of singer, and while not everyone might enjoy her voice, I really do. If you like Broadway, jazz, drama, romance, or just fun, catchy songs, this is a CD for you. Once you have seen Kristen Chenoweth in action (check out YouTube) you know not only what an extremely talented musician she is, but also how fabulous she is at acting out and conveying each piece to an audience. She is the WHOLE package! This CD is a great sampling of her extreme talents! I hope she continues doing seperate albums on the side besides her beoadway albums. She sings in so many different stlyes and her voice is so beautiful in each. She gives such heart to every peice she sings. A few years back I caught Kristin Chenoweth's socko boffo performance on a Boston Pops special on PBS and was suitably wowed. I had heard nothing but good things about her prior, but since Broadway is not my main musical interest, I admit I hadn't felt compelled to rush to check her out. Then a friend whose main musical interest is in fact, musicals played me a few tracks of the WICKED cast album, on which both Chenoweth and co-star Idina Menzel excelled (and were swell--hmm, maybe I should take up hip hop). All of that made me eager to hear Chenoweth's solo recordings, to experience--as it were--her full palette.
LET YOURSELF GO from 2001 is as good a sampling as you could hope for. A solid mix of peppy, witty showtunes and heartfelt ballads, all sung with what we critics and would-be critics like to call "genuine flair." She's got the stuff, and she knows how to use it.
Of course, all popular music is, at least in part, selling an artist's personality. Chenowith's impressive vocal prowess would not necessarily guarantee stardom if she weren't so charming and, as John Lahr observes in his liner notes, so downright wholesome. Like Bernadette Peters and rock's Cyndi Lauper, she has a somewhat comic, Betty Boopesque speaking voice, but is capable of turning around and blowing an audience away with sheer vocal power.
Employing all that natural charm and wit, Chenoweth can get away with vocalizing stunts that might seem way too show-offy on paper. Her take on "The Girl in 14G" has her alternating operatic trills with very convincing, very Ella-like scatting. In less hands, it might prove WAAAY too cute. But I defy any listener to listen to Chenoweth's triple-tracked vocal pyrotechnics and not be suitably impressed, if not fully enraptured. Ultimately, the song is about the sheer joy of singing, and Kristin Chenoweth's take on it conveys that joy. And if there's a little bit of showboating going on, well, it's done with warmth and humor and, anyway, the girl's ENTITLED.
The album is beautifully orchestrated and very well sequenced. A light hearted number like the above mentioned "14G" is followed by the sensitively rendered Rodgers and Hart number "I'll Tell the Man On the Street," which proves that the young Barbra Streisand did not OWN that song after all.
The inclusion of the Ogden Nash/Kurt Weill classic "Stranger Here Myself" did make me hungry for something even edgier, though. Yes, I could imagine Chenoweth doing BRECHT/Weill as well. In noting her wholesome appeal, John Lahr suggests that she is something of a throwback to an era of lighter, more innocent musical theater. I take the point, but I disagree that she would not be a good candidate for a Sondheim production. Lahr maintains that Chenoweth is not "desiccated" enough for Sondheim. But surely, he of all people would be appreciative of the benefits of casting against type. After all, the above cited Bernadette has been doing it for years. And even Cyndi made a her Broadway debut a year or so ago doing Brecht/Weill. I could well see the already versatile Ms Chenoweth getting a little, how you say, edgier?
Do I mean the best album or the best singer? You are correct if you said both! I saw Kristin Chenoweth on a PBS show "Broadway's Best at the Pops," (though it was not the first time I had heard her) and decided to check out the offerings here. This is a collection of the kind of music and performances I love. She has a great range, a precise pitch, and a great style that is at the same time true to the music and to herself. In an era when singers try to outdo each other re-interpreting the composer's original work, not usually with great success, she is a blessing! Kristin Chenoweth won a Tony for the supporting role of Sally Brown in the 1999 revival ofYou're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, made a memorably vampy Lily in the 1999 television film ofAnnie, and had an NBC sitcom created for her,Kristin! Now she grabs the spotlight inLet Yourself Go, her first solo recording. She mixes torchy standards ("My Funny Valentine," "How Long Has This Been Going On?") with Faith Prince-style sauciness ("If"), gets to show off her operatic and scat chops in the miniplay "The Girl in 14G," and shares a light duet with Jason Alexander (reviving his musical theater career post-Seinfeld). Perhaps her "Stranger Here Myself" isn't the weightiest you've ever heard, but this is an enjoyable album with a good deal of old-fashioned class, expertly accompanied by Rob Fisher and the Coffee Club Orchestra.--David Horiuchi Rerations < Let Yourself Go >

(A must see for all young adults)
(LIFE OF SWEET NOTHINGNESS)
(Amazing!!) I caught this movie on cable one night and instantly wanted to own it. It's a fantastic movie that is incredibly dynamic in nature. There is the struggle to hold a family together, economic pressures that lead a man to crime, and the descent into madness at the hands of a crack pipe.
Michael Imperioli and Mira Sorvino both give amazing performances. This true story about a man named Angel (Angelo) was written in a diary that was found in an empty apartment in New York.
Years after seeing this, it remains one of my favorites. I cannot help but wonder why such an amazing movie was never released on DVD. Powerful movie, very real!!!........A must see!!! Too bad they don't show this movie in schools so kids can see the real dangers of crack addiction. If anyone ever wanted a reason no to do drugs, this is the movie. More powerful than any lecture or discussion could ever dream of being, this film shows so clearly what crack addiction is like. This movie should be shown to every high school senior. Sweet Nothing is a fantastic movie portraying the lives of a young couple struggling to have a life in NYC.A young Michael Imperioli, and Mira Sorvino lend credence to a story of drugs, love, and loss! A MUST SEE! This movie is not just about drugs but its about a family's struggle to get out of an endless ditch that is drugs. Amazing acting, storyline and directing. I think its a must see for anybody, it really shows you the meaning of true survival. I loved it and i want to thank everybody that made this movie possible for me to watch. (The First Half Excells)
(Excellent Job, Francis Cappolla)
(Really good movie, much better than The Conversation.)
(I.T. for Incredibly Tremendous) This film is long overdue for a DVD availability. To think that you can get "Full House" in boxed sets but not this little gem.
It's not a perfect film but it evokes the rhythm and atmosphere of the time. Forget Coppola, look at folks like Julie Harris, Rip Torn and Karen Black. Revel in the weirdness of sixties poetry, drama and interior decoration. Beyond all that, revel in the performance of Peter Kastner, at once likable and pathetic. He never seemed to garner the recognition he deserved; forever to wear the albatross of "The Ugliest Girl In Town" around his neck.
I just get a good feeling whenever I get the cahcne to see this movie or even think about it. Let me own it and relish each and every scene (and a commentary by Peter Kastner and others wouldn't hurt at this stage, either) About 15 minutes into this quirky film I was ready to proclaim it a must see and to bill it as the best movie no one has seen or even heard about. After all it was Coppola's masters thesis for film school. It has Elizabeth Hartman successfully playing against type as a sexy (somewhat psycho) Greenwich Village ingénue. It has Peter Kastner, Rip Torn, Geraldine Page and Julie Harris playing characters as bizarre as those in "Harold and Maude" (it reminds you a lot of that film and may have inspired it). It has Karen Black doing a toned down version of the Rayette Dipesto character she would play in "Five Easy Pieces". It has a lively sound track by the Lovin' Spoonful. It even has Coppola cutting in extensive gruesome footage from his first film "Dementia 13".
Unfortunately by the halfway point of "You're a Big Boy Now" it runs out of steam and you begin to understand its obscurity. Coppola's script is the problem because the cast are generally excellent and you can tell they had a lot of fun making the film. Even minor cast members like Dolph Sweet do a good job and there are great little sequences like Kastner's after dark explorations of the New York City streets. But unlike "Herald and Maude", Coppola says nothing with this film; consequently it ends up as a classic case of the whole being considerably less than the sum of its parts.
This is not Coppola's best stuff but is worth checking out if you like Hartman, Harris, and Page.
Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child. I just want to say that "You're a Big Boy Now", is one of my all time favorite movies. Cheesy? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutely. I first watched it back in 1989 (I was 19 years old, Bernard's age) and in a way I related to Bernard. Growing up and moving into my own apartment and what not.
Bernard's mother (Geraldine Paige) reminds me so much of my mother. Over-nurturing, over protective and nosey (sorry Mom.) The acting in this movie is absolutely wonderful. Even "Dog" (yes, that's the name of Bernard's dog) did a good job in this film. This is a must see! I think this movie is one of Coppola's best, since there is no confusing drama/mystery in it(The Conversation). The plot is that a man has just moved out of his home and is going out with a girl he knew in high school. However, he also falls for a go-go dancer at a club the two go to. The movie is slightly dated, but it makes up for it with charm, espiecially the music. The acting is superb, and it's just a funny movie. I believe Coppola made this for his thesis at UCLA, I'm not quite sure. It's still good, so check it out. Sure, one can dissect this film the way a film-dissector dissects films. Throw those dissections away, though, and watch this film for the pure beauty of writing, acting, direction, score, cinematography, and genuine zaniness of ecclectica that ensues from the very opening scene til the last. I love this movie for everything that it offers and everything that a film-dissector says it could never offer. To me, it is a cult classic - it cannot be dissected like any other flick.P.S. My favorite scene, other than all of them in general, is when Bernard sees Barbara Darling dance for the first time at the Go-Go club. It's as raw and real as life gets, or at least got at that time. Man alive, this movie gets 6 stars on a 5-star basis. Rare is the movie that qualifies as both its director's film-school master's thesis and his first project for a major studio (Warner Bros.).You're a Big Boy Nowis also the lone instance of Francis Ford Coppola's attempting an out-and-out comedy--and forgoing future endeavors in that line was a wise career decision. The picture's a grab-bag of zaniness and manic playfulness in imitation of the freewheeling French New Wave films that were all the rage with cinema buffs at the time. The theme is the moving-away-from-home and sexual coming-of-age of Bernard Chanticleer (Peter Kastner), a boyish, going-on-twenty Long Islander with a hyper-neurotic mom (supporting-actress Oscar nominee Geraldine Page) and a pompous pop (Rip Torn), who as Curator of Incunabula at the New York Public Library is also his boss. Bernard is so smitten with Barbara Darling (Elizabeth Hartman), a man-eating, go-go-dancing sylph who¹s part of an avant-garde theater company, that he almost literally can't see the sweet girl (Karen Black in her first role) who works alongside him, and painfully pines for him, at the library. Yet another female grotesque is Bernard's repressed landlady (Julie Harris), whose honest-to-God name, Miss Thing, may be the film's one enduring legacy to American culture. Coppola's talent is apparent even when he's trivializing it, and there are some nice ideas--e.g., a small army of library drones lyrically roller-skating through the stacks, and a meet-cute moment involving the library's pneumatic-tube system that may have inspired the New Wave's François Truffaut in turn (v.Stolen Kisses). But there's also no end of scampering along the sidewalks and streets of Manhattan for which, again and again, you'll wish Coppola had been slapped.--Richard T.
