My two boys, ages 2 and 5 love the kidsongs videos. This one is their favorite. I like it too, because none of the songs are annoying so I don't mind it when they watch it five time in a row.
hi i sat colecting on a pouring rainy day i checked in the basment i had kidsongs tapes oh my god i couldnot belive that my froend meagan ashbrige has been asking that for me to put on kidsongs for 13 years i could not belive this myself so i gave these to meagam see how you like it i was over her mother in lauhs house i gave it to her give these to meagan a few days later a card arived in the mail alls it siad was mr, and mrs, ashbrige i am not sure who they are but they knew me but i cant remember them please help me by the chance christian
I am a daycare provider and my kids love it when we have dance time and I put this video in. It is fun, silly, and holds their attention longer than most other "dance" videos I've seen.
This DVD keeps him interested during the entire video. We have several others and he enjoys each one equally as well. His mother had some of these when she was a little girl and she loved them, too. Hers were old VHS tapes and we recorded all of them on one video so she could watch as long as she wanted. They are worth every penny. The secret is to play them a few times so the kids will recognize the tunes!

Silly Willy and Silly Jilly dressed in Mary Poppins-meets-the Music Man regalia lead the singing kids through Silly Dillyville in this Kidsongs outing. The 11 tunes include standards like "The Name Game" (the song that rhymes every name with "bo-banna, fe-fi-fo-fanna..."), "Down by the Bay," "Michael Finnegan" and "Purple People Eater." Each song features characters that introduce the songs. So Billy Daffidilly sings about his eccentric mother, Professor Quackenbush describes the one-eyed violet beast (who also makes an appearance), and Farmer Phil shows off his straw-hatted iguana, a hen pulling a cart, and an owl that performs no discernable tricks in "Fiddle-I-Fee." The whole "town" joins in for the "Do the Silly Willy" finale, featuring Willy rapping in his candy-striped jacket. I hate blatant gushing in Amazon reviews, yet for Kelly Sweet, my review title says it all. "Dream On" by Aerosmith is a classic which I always thought was untouchable and never ever imagined that it could be redone. Yet Kelly Sweet pulls it off with her stunningly beautiful rendition. I REALLY hate to gush, but this CD is a "WOW".
I have listened to this disc repeatedly (which is truly rare for me)--it never gets old. She truly has a "sweet" and calming voice. I put this on when everyday stresses start to bring me down. I can't wait for her next release.
Absolutely love this purchase! I can't stop playing it. Kelly Sweet has the voice of an angel, and truly takes you to a higher place. I love the variety of songs and languages - true poetry in music!!!
First let me clarify I am not a fan of this class of music, but the fact that I own and play this disc makes it a 5-star album for this type of music! What really makes me listen to Kelly Sweet is her amazing voice. I will leave the vocal comparisons to the more familiar reviewers, but I have heard a bit of this classical-minded pop music and always shut it off because of the pretentious vocal technique. Kelly doesn't try to impress us, or even try to seduce us on the cover! Her voice and beauty seem exceptionally pure. Just when you think the next note might get a little harsh, she gracefully backs down to a softer tone. Very splendid indeed.

As for the songs, she doesn't really try to impress the radio audience with the best moment of the song being the intro. She actually lets the song build momentum and emotion. (Rather is characteristic of the electronic/post-rock music I generally play!) I see reviewer "Toady" bought the album for what s/he heard on the radio, and ended up not really liking the rest of the disc. I am not terribly surprised, as this is a more refined disc. The first three tracks are definitely the radio picks--starting with the slow, late-night, R&B-influenced "We are One" (a beautiful song!), followed by the carefree, midday-jazz "Raincoat," and finally a pleasing Aerosmith cover.

The french songs, though they show culture, are honestly my least favourite. The softly cinematic arrangements are quite typical, only her voice sets these apart from anyone else. The italian "Giorno Dopo Giorno" does a bit better and her vocal talent really shines on this one.

"Crush" is actually my other 5-star track along with the title track. She gives it time to build and it just has that great pure pop tone. "How 'bout You" is a similar track, reminding me a lot of Bliss (Import) (one of my other favorites for deeper, more positive pop music). Interestingly, her voice seems a little too potent for the airy style that many less gifted singers pull off! Anyhow it's a good track.

"Now We Are Free" really impressed me because it shows she is taking cues from probably the greatest and most unique female voice today, Lisa Gerrard. Her voice is used like an instrument in countless major films, as well as composing a few soundtracks herself. This one of course is from the end of "The Gladiator."

The remaining three tracks are of a more emotional sort of pop. Thoughtful lyrics, and as with the whole disc, beautiful singing with plenty of acoustic guitar and piano. I was also glad that the bass and drum instrumentation was R&B style for some songs, pop/rock style for others, and left out of others. Great mix.

Kelly Sweet was never a contestant on a TV singing competition, and she isn't the product of the latest svengali producer. Which, in 2007, makes her something of a rare new pop star. Her approach to the genre is pretty unexpected, too: Temperamentally, the flame-haired chanteuse falls somewhere between Celine Dion and Sarah McLachlan, which is to say she's all softness, warmth, and sincerity. Vocally, she's a ringer for Amy Lee of the rock band Evanescence, minus the goth fixation. And categorically, her closest fit within the wide world of pop is classical crossover. Consider her the female Josh Groban then, with the multilingual skills to match: In addition to a haunting and miraculously un-awful rendition of Aerosmith's "Dream On," she busts out a French track, "Je T'aime," that sends out summery flutters; a Sanskrit song from the film "Gladiator," "Now We Are Free," that impresses with its depth of feeling; and an Italian number, "Giorno Dopo Giorno," that ripples with tenderness and sentimentality. Not your typical pop record in any way, shape or form, WE ARE ONE has a much more ambitious sensibility than those being heard on Top 40 radio today. With songs sung in English, Italian, French, and Sanskrit, and melodies that partake of both jazz and classical influences, WE ARE ONE conveys a sense of depth, intimacy and sophistication not often heard in today's pop landscape. The magnificent "Giorno Dopo Giorno" couples Sweet's soaring vocals with a thrilling string arrangement, bringing listeners the kind of intense joy that can usually only be experienced in the world's finest opera houses. "The song originally had English lyrics," says Sweet, "and it was called `Who Can I Believe In?' We felt that the melody was too European and didn't work with the lyrics, so we asked Marco Marinangelli, who writes Italian lyrics for Josh Groban, to translate the words into Italian. It came out beautifully." Sweet says she has always gravitated to the beautiful sounds of languages other than English. "I was classically trained beginning at the age of 11," she says, "and that's when I began to sing in other languages. It always came very easily to me."

WE ARE ONE, then, is that rarest of musical experiences--a seamless emotional journey that deeply touches listeners of all ages with its beauty, grace, individuality, and courage. But perhaps to call Sweet courageous is overstating something that is really much simpler. "This music is not about me," she says. "It's about the soul in all of us. I am just happy to have a voice to convey these things to the world."

And the world is certainly a better place because of it.

My toddler son really loves Elmo and he loves this video. I have to say that I enjoy it also. It teaches about the outdoors including animals, seasons and the weather. The count comes along and even teaches some counting.

As a parent, I really appreciate videos that are entertaining and educational for my children to watch. And even more, I appreciate the ones that adults can enjoy also because we end up watching them over and over again with our children.

I recommend The Great Outdoors and look forward to getting other Elmo's World videos.
We have about 10 Elmo DVDs, and this one is the boys' favorite. They particularly love the first segment about wild animals.
My twin boys are almost a year old and we have most of the Elmo's World DVDs. If your kids like Elmo, and most seem to, The Great Outdoors is a good one to have. My boys LOVE this one. They kick and laugh while watching Elmo, the other puppets, and even dumb Mr. Noodle. They enjoy the part in the beginning where Elmo introduces the wild animals. They also like it when Elmo counts, but their favorite section is the one on fishes, especially when Dorothy imagines Elmo as different types of fishes.

I am surprised that a reviewer said this one scared her child. Maybe it would be worth trying it again. We have never had that problem and one of our boys startles easily. The tornado does have a silly voice, but not bad. It says "you can't play outside when I'm around."

This disc always holds their attention and makes them smile. I recommend it. I wish they liked the others as much. Our boys' other favorites are: Pets; Food, Water&Exercise; Flowers, Bananas&more; Reach for the Sky, and Sing Yourself Silly.
Hmmm. Well, some people love Elmo, some people hate him. My daughter kind of likes him, although I try and keep exposure to a minimum... I'm an old-school Sesame Street fan, but I've always loathed Elmo's super-cutesiness and vacuuous presentation. This video is okay -- there is some admirable educational content, but jeez, is Elmo whiny. And at some point in every episode there'd come a moment when I could swear I could hear my kid's brain cells popping. It's hard to find intelligent, inoffensive, unscary, nonviolent media for toddlers to enjoy, and with Elmo, I'd say two out of four ain't bad... On balance, I'd say this disc -- like other "Elmo's World" videos -- has its merits, but there are parts of it that are a little insulting to the intelligence of little viewers. Parents might want to preview it first, not because it's scary or whatever, but just to see if it's really what they want to have flooding their kid's mind. I finally decided it was too dumb, and am looking for better material. "Little Bear," maybe?
OK, i read some of the other reviews and just shook my head at some peoples reaction to this DD even i ahd my dad read this and he agreed, I have a 1 year old ad 3 year olkd sister, I'll come in the room and watch it with them sometimes, when Prarie Dawn gets blown away all the 1-year old does is say bye bye and if our little neighbor mario is over he will giggle and join in and before you knoiw it 3 toddlers watching this part having a GRAND old time watching that part when older kids are screaming in panic, try to expose your children to their fear little by little, thats how my parents got me to get over my fear of escaltors when I was 7, just expose it to them little by little and tell them the wolf isn;t going to get them, hey there are worse things my friend went face to face with a wolf when he was 8! a real one too when he was fishinbg with his sister, luckily the wolf was just after the fish strangly. Back to the DVD, the other part parents claim is scary with the tornado the 3-year old says COOL! Hey they havce to learn about torbadoes in 3rd grade, the last thing you want is your kid screming and crying because they see a tornado adn start calling the kid cry baby. Try to expose the kids to this slowly, this is not the headless horseman we're dealing with, its just foam puppets that are trying to educate our children about the world. Nobody can hide their little babies inside when they r 40 years old to hide them of the dangers of the world, they need to expierence the world, if you know what I mean learn about it, learn about strangers, weather, etc anything about the world so they are prepared when they go out on their own in this cruel world when they grow up. So parents, try to get them to watch this little by little and not ban them from this tape because they teach them about the WORLD. I know this is coming from a 13 year old but at least try to expose them to this video alittle bit.

We have watched the movie periodically over a number of years and grew tired of renting it. It is a fun movie with some good laughs in it.
"Heaven Can Wait" is a perfect film - it's funny, poignant, has a couple of unexpected plot twists,
features Warren Beatty at his most sincere and beautiful - a wonderful investment of time and energy.
I watched this movie for the first time about a month ago off cable and was so impressed I had to purchase the DVD to add to my library. Years ago when this was at the theater I assumed it was some sort of mockery against God, but it isn't at all. While not the same type of theme, I put the story line on par with The Bishop's Wife (Cary Grant).
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. Although I have seen it several times, I recently purchased the DVD--this movie is a keeper!

The writing is bright and funny, and the cast is spot-on perfect. Warren Beatty, Julie Christie, Charles Grodin, Dyan Cannon, James Mason, Jack Warden, Buck Henry . . . what an amazing, talented group of actors, each doing what they do best.

"Heaven Can Wait" is one of those gems that will make you laugh out loud, no matter how many times you have seen it before.

And if you want to see another hilarious movie about death (Really!) also pick up Defending Your Life, by Albert Brooks. Hmmm . . . these two movies would make a great double feature.

I recently watched this film after not seeing it for at least a decade. It is just one of those movies you can watch whenever it comes on. Beatty is likable as the football pro who dies before his time and Julie Christie looks as good and as sexy as ever! Jack Warden is always welcome in any film. It still holds up today as a very good romantic/comedy. I guess I'm going to have to revisit Shampoo now. ;-b

Beatty is wonderfully daft and innocent as Joe, Jack Warden is on top of his form as Joe's trainer Corky, and Julie Christie appears to be playing a diaphanous summer dress. This sequel to "Goodbye Norma Jean" regurgitates several scenes from that film in flashbacks, featuring ditz Misty Rowe as a young Norma Jean Baker. "Goodnight, Sweet Marilyn" has a very puffy&bloated Paula Lane taking over as tortured Marilyn. Unintentional laughter will take hold of you when she "sings" Happy Birthday Mr. President in a dress that looks nothing like the actual gown M.M. wore that evening. At least they are consistent with noticible inconsistancies because they couldn't even get Norma Jean's hair color right in the first film either. Poor Phyllis Coates (Lois Lane in the black&white episodes of "Superman") got plucked out of obscurity to play a cameo as Marilyn's nut-job mother in a hallucination scene.
bad acting, bad film design, false story!!!!!!!! Do not buy!!!!

(THE SWEET PHONY PONIES)

("One of their best")

IN THE SWEET PIE AND PIE is a very funny short. The pie fight at the end is hilarious, but too slowly paced. A great short, only one bad moment.

PHONY EXPRESS is a pretty mediocre short. Not enough entertainment, too westerny. A few good scenes, but this needs help.

PLAYING THE PONIES, on the other hand is great. Some great scenes at the racetrack."Follow the water, Thunderbolt."

A great tape, needed for a Three Stooges collection.
IN THE SWEET PIE AND PIE (1941) - Stars the Stooges as convicts who get duped into marrying 3 women who are just doing it to collect a legacy. This short does have it's similarities to HOI POLLOI (and even has a reused scene from it), but this short can stand well enough on its own. I love the wild pie fight at the end. This short is a gem.

PHONY EXPRESS (1943) - One of the few Stooge Westerns I actually like. This was surprisingly well-done for a western - very fast-paced, zany and cartoony. Curly's bloodhound scene is a killer.

PLAYING THE PONIES (1937) - stars the Stooges as restaurant waiters, who give up their job to get into horse racing business. A great short, and this must've been one of Larry's favorite's, since he loved betting on horses. The scene where he gets a rake caught up his behind kills me every time.

Also, there's a mistake on the back of the video box. For the description of PHONY EXPRESS, they use a picture of PLAYING THE PONIES by accident, and the other way around for the description of PLAYING THE PONIES.
"In the Sweet Pie and Pie"is on of the Stooge's best. What's really funny about it is that in 'In the Sweet Pie and Pie"they're trying to turn them into slobs and in"Hoi Polloi"they're trying to turn them into gentlemen.
In the Sweet Pie and Pie(1941, No. 58 in the series) starts with a plot right out ofThe Yeomen of the Guard, in which three chiseling women, in order to claim an inheritance, marry the Stooges, who are condemned to be hanged the next day. The execution scene is a rare bit of black humor, as the event is treated like a sports event with a Bill Stern-type announcer. They are pardoned and the wives saved from the consequences by insisting they become high class. This leads to a dancing lesson from an earlier film and a good deal of what the title promises.

Phoney Express(1943, No. 75) is a minor effort. Mistaken only briefly for marshals out in the Old West, the boys bungle their one assignment of guarding the town bank and have to find the missing money, which they do all too easily. The only sign of something new is a fully armed Curly hiding inside a stove with the money, which gets set on fire by the villain's cigar. The result is a superweapon spouting shots all over. But nothing is made of it except a fade-out and "The End." Using Curly as a bloodhound shows off his comedic talents, but it is all a bit degrading.

InPlaying the Ponies(1937, No. 26) we have a real animal as the star. After mismanaging a restaurant in which "chicken soup" means boiled water poured over a chicken and Larry tallies up a bill by seeing what still clings to the customer's clothing (a bit stolen from Charlie Chaplin), the boys swap it for a non-winning horse. The animal does react, however, to some pepperinos and it actually wins the race. For a change, the short ends happily with a wealthy trio sharing a victory dinner with the winner.--Frank Behrens

I love the original Christmas Carol story, and really didn't like it being tinkered with, but my little one loves Barbie, so we bought it. She loves it, and hasn't had her classical sensibilities offended...yet! However, I have to say, although I only gave it 3 stars because, as I said, I don't like when classic stories are changed, I do enjoy Barbie movies, and find them quality viewing for everyone in the family. If you can get past a female Scrooge type character with a diva attitude, you should survive this one unscathed.
As always Barbie delivers. This dvd is beautiful, Barbie is charming and it is really nicely done. It makes my daughter happy and she watches it often even if it is not Christmas anymore.

I highly recommend this for any little girl, Barbie is always a welcome gift.

Good flick!
My 5yr old granddaughter had it firmly in her mind that this was what she wanted. It was past Christmas when she told me. The only place I could still find it was Amazon.They sent it promptly. She has watched the dvd many times and it is one of her favorites. I found the story very well done for portraying concepts of "right" and "wrong" human behavior.

This is a great movies for children. I watched it with my 5 and 7 year old grandchildren. The movie has several wonderful messages: cooperate by sticking together with family and friends through thick and thin, help the ones who need help, (even if they are the competitors) pay attention to wise advise, try hard to do your best and always remember that parents are usually on your side. Awesome. Great for a Sunday afternoon with grandkids and popcorn.

The Buddies puppies (Air Buddies) have been a great team since birth and now that Buddha, Mudbud, Rosebud, Budderball, and B'Dawg have all been adopted by various well-matched families throughout Fernfield Washington, they've each developed a comfortable routine with their new owners. After being chastised by Ms. Mittens (voiced by Whoopi Goldberg) for chasing her kitten, B'Dawg and the rest of the Buddies meet up in the park for a game of ball, but Budderball leads them astray after spotting a truck full of ice cream. What none of them expects after their all-you-can-eat ice cream binge is that they will soon end up parachute dropped into Ferntiuktuk Alaska with what's left of the ice cream shipment. After a night spent alone in a strangely white and very cold world, they are befriended by a young husky dog named Shasta (voiced by Dylan Sprouse) who's young owner Adam (Dominic Scott Kay) wants nothing more in life than to assemble a sled dog team and compete in a dogsled race across Alaska. Assuming that the Buddies are the answer to Adam's prayers for a sled dog team, Shasta convinces the Buddies to race and enlists the legendary sled dog Talon (voiced by Kris Kristofferson) to train them all while Adam pours over his father's old sledding journal and single-handedly constructs a sled that's the perfect size for him and his team. Adam secretly enters the race against his father's wishes and thus begins a perilous, but exhilarating journey that teaches everyone involved a lot about teamwork, faith, and the importance of helping others. While many aspects of this film are completely unbelievable, the talking Buddies are adorable, the plot is significantly improved over the movie's predecessorAir Buddies, and the wholesome message will appeal to children and adults alike. It's a great Disney movie from the 1960's about the Boy Scouts of America. It's a must watch for anyone involved in the Scouting program whether youth or adult.
This is such a fun movie. Definitely worth seeing and buying. I hadn't seen it in so long that I was afraid it would just be a "sentimental buy" and that I might regret it. But that was not the case, it was just as good as I remembered :)
This movie was a fabulous look at the beginnings of the Boy Scouts of America. While not actually a "true story" it was based on a book "God and My Country" and featured an interesting look at the lifelong commitments many men make to our nation's boys. The tale of Lem Siddons and his faithful love and guidance of troop after troop of boys learning respect, integrity, and courage. Definitely a family-friendly film that our children enjoyed watching.

*The only portion which some parents may want to know about ahead of time is that one of the fathers is an alcoholic. We used it as an opportunity to share with our children why some people abuse alcohol and the movie pointedly shows the repercussions; a boy who is confused about his place in the world and ultimately the father's death.
The absolute best family movie - for children - especially boys - of all ages! I wish they still made movies like this. Teaches great values.
I have always enjoyed this film. First seen it when I was attending Hedges Elementary School in Kalispell, MT. I have wanted to get a copy of it for years and now that it is available on DVD I got it.

My daughter absolutely loves this snack! It's healthier than potato chips, pretzels, popcorn and other junk foods that children eat these days. I disagree with the people here on Amazon that highly criticize this product based on the "Sea Salt" ingredient. It's hardly salty!! FYI, there is more SODIUM in pretzels, popcorn, chips, beef jerkies, deli meats, mac-n-cheese, chicken soup, string cheese, etc. (foods that you probably put in your children's lunches!) Even Kettle corn (which is sweet and salty) has more sodium than this Sensible Foods Sweet corn snack!

To those who gripe about the enormous abundance of Sea Salt, sodium or salt...read the labels and do your research first before you unnecessarily spout-off about this product. But hey...I bet you probably think Sensible Foods Sweet Corn has more salt/sodium than McDonald's French fries, don't you??!!!

I received these from my spouse because I probably would never have bought them myself. Honestly, I was not very excited to try these. I mean, it's candy. Not only is it candy, it's milk chocolate, and candy (especially milk chocolate) should be sweet.

However, these chips bring together that perfect balance of savory versus sweet. Like chocolate covered pretzels, but better because they're potato chips! The little ridges help with the texture, I think that was key, or perhaps I am just biased towards ridged potato chips.

This plays out as a balance between flavors and textures. Sweet vs salty. Crunchy versus smooth. These chips are fantastic. It's one of those things that your mind says no, but after thinking about it, realize that it was in fact, a great idea.

This is great Italian sausage the way it should be made. Much to my surprise there was the cheese and parsley sausage sample included. A nice size sample and that has me hooked on buying another of Esposito's sausage. I just wish the shipping was a bit cheaper. But if it is quality and service you are looking for....this is the place.

Love it! Big blocks. Heavy, Sturdy, easy to handle for the toddler. Fun, Cute sounds!

I basically bought it for myself, but the kids like it too!!
This really is a simple cause and effect puzzle and kids love it, they learn animal sounds and to match .
I bought this toy for my niece when she was about 16 months old. She loved it. The pictures, the sounds. Three months later, she's grown with the blocks. Before, she lacked the dexterity to orient them in three dimensions so make the animals match up. Now, she can handle three dimensional movement, no problem, and her challenge is to get the front and back to match up in the right directions. She knows what animals they are , knows how to make the sound of all of them (woof woof!), and when a pig or a cow shows up in another book, that she can go over, get the blocks and arrange them to make the sound. She. Loves. Them. Melissa and doug - two thumbs way up.
Honestly. Are people ignorant and just negative at every given opportunity? What's with such horrid reviews of this product? One, Melissa&Doug has the BEST customer service. If your sound blocks don't give the desired noise, call M&D. They'll send you new ones free of charge. Seriously. (They very happily replaced my train puzzle bc it didn't make the requisite "whoo whoo" noise.) Two, I love a puzzle that has only two pieces. What parent wouldn't?? And, finally, this toy really does challenge younger children. We had it forever, and my son always loved to help me put the pieces together. At 20 months, he assembled his first match on his own - much to his and my surprise and delight. He now loves to make all the matches, many times over. This puzzle is definitely more of a challenge than the ones w/the corresponding picture or shape under each piece (a lot of M&D puzzles).
I love this toy no little pieces too lose - fun for infant to toddler. Makes great sounds. My youngest has enjoyed it at 1 month (the sounds) and my oldest now 3.5 still loves it. An great easy introduction to puzzles for toddlers and a great introduction to animals for infants. Win win! Not to mention its cute - I can display it instead of hide in with our plethora of plastic toys.
A classic favorite! Animals "sound off" when the two wooden cubes are properly placed in the wooden tray. Find the halves that match and listen to six different realistic farm animal sounds. Develops visual perception and fine motor skills.

(Adorable Abby Cadabby doll)

Very annoying, my daughter can keep pressing the button fast and it stops and changes what it says/sings. The songs are contrived and I think I paid too much for another doll. She tosses it out of her crib or carraige in disgust or bordom. I agree.
My 2 year old received this as a gift for her birthday - she loved it (and so does her 4 year old sister!). Abby says several things - but our favorite is the lullaby she sings - it is very sweet. This is a great go-to-bed friend to help a child countdown to bedtime. Her little frog lights up. Overall, this is a nice toy and a current favorite in our house. If your child likes Abby - this is a great doll!
Sweet Dreams Abby is all dressed up for bed. She is holding her plush frog, named Prince. Press the frog and he will light up, it will also feature phrases, sound effects from Abby and two sweet lullabies.

-Does not put them in her mouth maybe other 3-yr old kids would.
-The thread ends are long enough for her to put the beads through.
-Cannot thread the hearts - that's ok grama does that and also puts a knot at the end.

I bought this for a Christmas and was very diappointed. It loked very cheap and I thought it would be better. Not a big fan of Melissa and Doug. They seem to be over-priced and you can get simlar items for less money with the same quality or better.
I purchased this for my 7 year old daughter who's more into art's and crafts kind of things then Barbies. She seemed happy to get it and had fun with it. The gift is pretty self explanatory, so the only thing I would add is they the actual item is not as brightly colored as the manufactures stock picture shows.

It's not the bright "Lisa Frank" like colors it looks like in the main photo. The wooden box it's in it actually more of a light pink color then the hot pink color they show, but the beads are a bit brighter. I added a personal photo to Amazon's customer images above to help give a better idea, but even that picture seems a bit more colorful then the actual item in hand. These color variations are not a big deal, but I just wanted to make a note of them so people would know.

Even her friends think it's "really cool!" It was delivered quickly, so she didn't even have to wait long to start the fun. It was a great investment with hours of fun for her.

you change diapers a alot! no, really a LOT. snaps at night are a nuisance! In the old days gowns like these were sold with a draw string cord at the bottom but those are consdered chocking hazards so now it's elastic at the bottom.
the only problem is that when you are carry the baby it rides up often you have to keep yanking it down. so during the day i would use a cotton t-shirt. (the reason for 4 stars not 5)

newborn babies cry for all sorts of reasons don't let uncomfortable clothing be one of the reasons. forget fancy outfits until they are older like 3 months or more. even still i would use these elastic bottom gowns at nighttime for quick changes in the dark. why complicate things with those sleeper suit things if you don't have to?

Arc of Justice is not a well-written book. It is, however, full of important and interesting information: About the suffering of blacks in Florida after Reconstruction; about life at black colleges and professional schools in the early 1900s; about Detroit's black ghetto post-World War I, and the all-white neighborhoods hemming it in; about Dr. Ossian Sweet and his brothers, who knew all of the preceding firsthand; about the rise of the NAACP; about the rise of the Ku Klux Klan in Detroit; about Clarence Darrow, Arthur Garfield Hays, Walter White, James Weldon Johnson, and other progressive luminaries; about Darrow and Hays' defense of the Sweets and others in a murder trial.

But again, and alas, this information is not well-conveyed. At a macro level, the book lacks organization and cohesion. Not only does it jump around in time--back and forth from 1925--it abruptly changes focus about halfway through, even though it's not split into two parts, just ten rather long chapters. And on the heels of the change of focus comes a loss of focus. The author begins to indulge in lengthy, distracting biographical asides, and magnifies tangential stories to such a degree that they overwhelm what should rightfully be--judging from the first 200 pages or so--the "saga" of Dr. Sweet. In fact, midway through, Dr. Sweet is demoted to minor status, and all but a couple of his co-defendants are literally never mentioned again. (You may note the irony in this marginalization.)

At a more micro level, the author makes a mistake in abandoning his native academic tongue and attempting a more fictive style, which he all but admits in his acknowledgments is entirely foreign to him. More specifically, the author's chief sin in this regard is this that he purports to be omniscient, writing as if he knows characters' unspoken thoughts and motivations (with the rare hedge that someone "must have" felt some way). This conceit might have been forgivable if the author's interpretations were convincing. But too often, I could readily imagine a character experiencing a different--if not the exact opposite--emotion from the one the author ascribes to him or her.

In addition, the author is given to very long and convoluted or disjointed sentences and paragraphs, which all too frequently require a second or even third read. The author is also far too fond of the words "slashing," "searing," and "crisp," which even if used sparingly mark a writer as an amateur.

Yet another failing at the sentence level are the hundreds of typos which pock the book throughout. Practically every single page contains a misspelled word or missing punctuation mark or missing word or the like. Not to mention the needlessly small type and cramped pages of the paperback.

This isn't all to say that Arc of Justice isn't worth reading. It is, again, full of information worth knowing. (Although, to be fair, it does leave many questions unanswered. For instance, what was Dr. Sweet's relationship with his parents like after he left his childhood home at age 13? And it answers a great deal of unasked questions. For example, I did not need to be told once, let alone repeatedly, that Darrow was a womanizer.) And at its best, Arc of Justice does successfully recreate some truly terrifying scenes of persecution. And most important, I'm not aware of any other books that cover the same territory.

Just be prepared to put up with some shoddy prose, if you do decide to give the book a shot.
Wonderfully written, this story is gripping until the very end, though it is entirely nonfiction. You will not believe the kinds of things these poor people had to go through.
Arc of Justice: A Saga of Race, Civil Rights, and Murder in the Jazz Age

Arc of Justice

Between World War I and the Great Depression, over seven million southern blacks migrated north. The causes of this great migration were several: the lingering effects of Jim Crow and discrimination; the lessening of the importance of agricultural crops like cotton, but mostly, opportunity - real or perceived. The lure of five-dollar-a-day jobs in Henry Ford's automotive plants was an alluring, if unrealistic, hope for many...most of whom found themselves consigned to menial jobs. One of these hopeful migrants was Ossian Sweet, a medical doctor who moved his family from northern Florida to Detroit in hopes of a better life. What he found was old fashioned bigotry and prejudice. When he had the temerity to move into an all-white neighborhood, the battle was joined.
On a hot summer night in 1925, Sweet and his wife were in their new home in the segregated neighborhood when a crowd began to form, hearing rumors of the move. Sweet assembled some trusted friends and prepared to wait out the inevitable riot, but things got worse. The Detroit police weren't able, or inclined, to control the violence. Shots rang out: two white protesters lay dead. Sweet, his wife, brother Henry, and friends were arrested and booked for murder. It looked like prison or worse until the NAACP persuaded Clarence Darrow, one of the century's most celebrated lawyers, to take their case.
Darrow had gained prominence in the cases of Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb, two wealthy Chicago college students who killed a boy for the thrill of it. Darrow prevailed on the judge to sentence them to life, rather than execution, based on expert and groundbreaking testimony on their mental condition. He had also defended Tennessee school teacher John Scopes on charges of teaching evolution in violation of state law. Even though Scopes was convicted of a misdemeanor, Darrow had a heavyweight showdown with fundamentalist William Jennings Bryan over the merits of evolution vs creationism. (The fight isn't over yet)
The trial of Henry and Dr. Sweet featured two key elements: the mental state of the defendants, and the right of self-defense. The jury in the first trial was unable to reach a verdict and it ended in mistrial. A second trial resulted in acquittal.
But it was a bittersweet victory: a parallel lawsuit brought before the Supreme Court by the NAACP challenged restrictive racial covenants in housing.
That suit failed, opening the door to continued, legal discrimination. And Dr. Ossian Sweet, beset by personal and financial troubles, took his own life in 1960, just as the civil rights movement got underway.
In Ossian Sweet's case, the legal system worked, unlike an earlier tragedy, the so-called "Colfax Massacre" In 1873, the height of reconstruction, at least eighty African-Americans were massacred in Colfax, Louisiana, as they defended a court house to which they were legally entitled. A white lynch mob descended on the building, firing at will. A subsequent trial went all the way to the Supreme Court, which reneged on its duties and basically allowed only the States, not the Federal Government, to pursue civil rights cases. The Day Freedom Died: The Colfax Massacre, the Supreme Court, and the Betrayal of Reconstruction

Kevin Boyle's "Arc of Justice" is a riveting account of the Ossian Sweet case and subsequent trials, which were major events in the very early stages of the civil rights movement, long before Martin Luther King Jr. and the SCLC rose to prominence. Boyle recounts the events of the couple of days after the Sweets moved into a white Detroit neighborhood; Ossian Sweet's life to that point; the NAACP's involvement in preparing for the trials; and the brilliant performance of Clarence Darrow in both trials.

For the most part, this book reads like a novel, which would have had a happy ending if not for the epilogue reminding us that lives of African Americans very rarely ended happily for much of our history. Boyle's descriptions of the Sweets and their friends defending the house, as well as the goings-on outside the house, was edge-of-your-seat intense. He provided plenty of background on everyone involved, which helps the reader get into the story and care about the outcome.

Boyle also did a wonderful job of telling the racial history of Detroit, something students are unlikely to learn in the classroom. And he succeeded in bringing Darrow to life and explaining why the Great Defender wanted to be a part of the Sweet case. In so many ways, this book is a gem.

I have a couple of small complaints that only slightly, if at all, detract from the overall quality of the book. First, I did feel at times that Boyle strayed from the topic. I realize the Sweets were not the sole focus of the book, that the bigger picture of race and the impact of the NAACP were important as well. Still, I thought he occasionally drifted. And the other issue I had was that I thought Boyle fell into a trap that catches many historians -- hyperbole and assumption. I cringe when historians claim to know what someone was thinking at a certain moment some decades ago, and I believe a good story tells itself and doesn't need flowery language to make it interesting. In some instances, I wish Boyle had simply stuck to the known facts.

But these criticisms are insignificant, and the truth is, I loved the book. I learned a great deal from it and whenever I had to put it down, I was always eager to pick it back up. I'd recommend it to anyone.
Masterfully written. If it were possible to rate this book as 6 stars, I would rate it 7. Not only are you enjoying this vividly written novel, but you are also learning in a great way some of the history of our country at a time when racial tensions in some parts of the country were spreading and rising in the North. Simply put, if you want to learn and don't mind wanting to stay up late at night just so you can see what happens next, buy this book. Bravo Professor Boyle. Highly recommended.

After becoming vegan, my family and I missed one thing almost more than any other, and that was Krispy Kreme donuts. Well, not anymore. That recipe is in this book. Along with so many other traditional as well as unique recipes that will keep you and your family happy with your life choices. Whether vegan or not - these are just better for you sweets. Take a little time to invest in yourself and make your own goodies. You're worth it!
i love this book. unfortunately, i lost my copy so this will be my second time buying it -- that's how good it is! as a recent vegan, i was worried about the dessert factor, but no need.

i made the mexican chocolate tart for a mexican dinner for omnivores, but didn't tell anyone the dessert was vegan. they loved it! i still haven't told my vegan-phobic brother-in-law, but my sister has requested that i make it again for her birthday. yes, it really is that good.
I like the idea of most of the recipes and the photos are great. But, I've tried two of the recipes and one was pretty good (peanut butter scones) and the other is great _but_ I had to seriously modify the recipe (sesame cookies).

I should have known by reading the recipe that you can't have drop cookies with 2 cups of wet ingredients (plus a mashed banana), 1 cup of sugar, and 2 cups of flour/oats. I doubled the oats and tripled (I stopped counting) the amount of flour and they are quite tasty. But, seriously?!

The website for the book should have an errata so I people don't have to make the corrections on their own. I am fortunate to be a trained pastry chef and able to work out problems in recipes.

I will be using this cookbook again, but perhaps have a pen handy to make notes.
I love to cook and bake. Since becoming a vegan, I have purchased many different vegan cookbooks. As far as desserts go, this is one of the top ones!!! There is a beautiful picture to go with every recipe in the book. I have only made a few recipes so far, but they have all turned out perfectly!!! My dog especially loved the Canine Cake for her 1st birthday. If you are vegan, allergice to dairy or eggs, or just want to try out vegan desserts, don't pass this one up!!!!
I have since made 5 of the recipes in this book and each one has turned out perfectly. The recipes are precise and delicious. There is a beautiful photograph of each one.

I am a teacher in middle school. I am also a former active duty soldier and a current reservist. I find Wooden's ideas practical and inspirational. Read it. Absorb it. Apply it. There are lessons for life, learning and basketball. His lessons would be equally effective i the classroom, boardroom, or the battlefield. Don't pass it by.
John Wooden exemplifies selflessness. His model for winning and success is infallible. What I got out of this book was the principle of listening to yourself and not trying to live up to other people's expectations. You do what feels right for you. The other valuable lesson I got out of this book was selflessness. In this world, you don't get to where you want to go by being selfish. What I was so impressed by so much was his definition of "winning". If you give it your best effort in a competition, than you have won, regardless of the score. This man is truly a legend.
If you are looking for a good introduction to keys of legendary UCLA coach John Wooden's success, look no further. Much has been written about Wooden over the years. The Essential Wooden breaks it down in a simple format.

The book is a quick read and can be finished in an evening.

To quote Wooden, "Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming."

You can summarize it this way, the key to success is working hard on your own skills and abilities, and working toward constant improvement. That is in many ways the same secret to the success of companies like Toyota and Honda, continuous improvement and a focus on the team.

What's great about this book is that Wooden has had time to reflect on his achievements and successes. Wooden strikes me as a humble and honest man. When he says his focus was on each member of the team pushing themselves to the limit, exceeding their own expectations and focusing on being the best they can be, not winning, I believe him.

Wooden briefly discusses his Pyramid of Success,and it's 17 steps. These are mutually supporting building blocks of a successful mindset and they are not complicated. Industriousness, self-control, poise, etc.

Wooden's genius is building it into a system, that proved itself many times over.

Success takes work, a fact that is lost on many today.

My Highest Recommendation, and a book I look forward to reading again.
This arrived in good shape and ahead of schedule - just like you want life to be.
He was born in a small town within a state that was a hotbed for basketball. Reading this short but informative book, one gathers that Mr. Wooden never lost sight of his roots. Life lessons from his father, Joshua, seemed to present him with a blueprint of hard work, discipline, common sense, courtesy, repetition, organization, and self-confidence. Ultimately, being respected as the premier coach in his chosen field. "UCLA" entered the American sports lexicon for perpetual excellence.

While the theme is basketball and leadership, Coach Wooden weaves personal stories, along with insightful reflections by several of his former players, to make this a very entertaining and educational book. He stresses the importance of the team over the individual in very clear language. He provides many examples of this aspect in a respectful yet enlightening tone. This book was structured like one of his legendary and intense practices: Every page was scripted for efficiency and future reference. At his core, Coach Wooden was the consummate teacher.

One quote, among many others, sums up this book for me: "I rarely scouted other teams. Except for UCLA." He believed that the real competition occurs from within, even though he maintained a healthy respect for his opposition. He also stressed that coaches and bosses should lead by example. Kareem Abdul Jabbar, one of his most famous student athletes, said, "He was 40 years older than us, but he was out there on the floor demonstrating what he wanted."
