(squirrels and many types of birds love it too.) This product could not be located at the local store where it was originally found. I was thrill when I found the items on the internet. My squirrels are happy again and they can eat as good as the birds. Thank you. We received our order in 4 days. This was the fastest service I have had to date. I have been using this product for years. It also attracts Woodpeckers and Blue Jays and is longer lasting than other products I have tried. Delivery was prompt. Ever since I place one on one of my backyard trees. Just to keep them away from my fruit trees. I've had squirrels and birds from woodpeckers down to finches nibbling at it. And its gone in a matter of days. It is an excellent birdwatcher tool. if you have the screw-in stand for it, the critters will come. (Good manners can be fun!)
(2 Years)
(Good One) Good for baby so that's all that matters. Enough said on how I feel about it. only there was a song about listening to Mom and Dad. Otherwise, this video is everything the other reviews state: catchy songs and great messages. The day my 2 1/2 year old watched it, she started applying what she learned, it was a beautiful thing. My 2 1/2 year old daughter LOVES this DVD! She's an afficianado of Barney, but this is by far her favorite to date. She knows all of the songs and loves to use her good manners just like Barney does. It's a wonderful compliment to parents who are teaching "please" and "thank you". I can honestly not give it a rate at this time (I guess I have too) my daughter is only 2 years old and she just started to be a little afraid of person with Mask. And there is a part in the movie where the children are dressed up with mask, and she asks me to take it off. But keep in mind BARNEY in general is a very educational and entertaining movie for the kids. My son likes this so much and he is totally attracted by the messages passed through the nice songs. He has been watching this since he was 18 months and still (he is 3 now). It is so interesting especially with its lovely songs. However in addition to being so interesting and exciting it teaches the toddlers the main manners in an indirect way. Barney and his friends learn about manners. Genre:Children's Video Rating:NR Release Date:26-AUG-2003 Media Type:DVD Learning about etiquette can be fun, especially with the help of Barney and his friend Miss Vera Goode's "Book of Manners for Children." This 48-minute, never-televised program shows young children how to cooperate, share, use the magic words "please and thank you," and generally exemplify good manners. Barney and his five young friends experience the topsy-turvy tea fromAlice in Wonderlandfirsthand, then practice their manners and get dressed up for a celebratory party at Vera Goode's mansion. Song and dance abounds as Barney and his crew discovers that practicing good manners can be unexpectedly fun. Barney features a somewhat improved singing voice in this production thanks to voicing by Dean Wendt and is joined by Vera Goode (voiced by Gretta Muller) in several musical duets. (Nearly perfect)
(Nice overview)
(Sweet sounds on this CD)
(Yes, *the* Ballroom Blitz) If you are into the "love is like oxygen" song with its awesome unique sounding guitar and beat, then there is nothing like having the original by sweet. In addition, this cd has "ballroom blitz", which I love by Krokus...I had no idea it was an original from Sweet, so when I heard it on this cd I really liked it, and the price....sweeeeter! LOL This is probably the best single-disc overview of The Sweet's career. My only complaint is the one glaring ommission, and that is "Hellraiser". I would have swapped the cliche-ridden "The Lies In Your Eyes" for the genuine stormer that is "Hellraiser", which often opened their concerts back in the glory days of the '70s. Of the later material, "Lost Angels" is the lost hit by the band; it should have been released in the USA, but instead we got "Funk It Up", a rather lame disco-tinged number, which actually charted but is thankfully missing from this collection. To anyone wanting a simple overview of Sweet, this is for you. Their best songs are all here Sweet's Best Of (with the pink cover, they seem to have several "best of" albums/CDs) is a good compliation from this unusual and highly-influential band. They kind of remind me of Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie meets The Supremes mixed with guitar-driven rock like early Kiss. Listening to The Best of Sweet it's clear why bands like Def Leppard and Motley Crue are fans. With songs that range in style from a teeny booper Beach Boys sound to full 70s arena rock, this CD also provides an interesting perspective on the band's lengthy career. If you like bands like Queen, The Darkness, or are into 60s OR 70s classic rock, or like any of the bands that cite Sweet as an influence, this CD is worth listening to for sure. I'll always like Tia Carrere singing Ballroom Blitz better though! Standout tracks: Little Willy, Wig Wham Bam, Ballroom Blitz, The Six Teens, Fox On The Run, Love is Like Oxygen. There are a lot of versions of this song, but this is the one you are looking for. DRM Free at 256K (Thank you Amazon!!) it's the song featured in the Kung Fu Hussle trailer and imitated many a time but never quite successfully. Including many remixes and re-releases from Sweet.
As to the rest of the album, sorry - I was just here for that song. And what a tune it is. They were glam, they were hams, and they made great singles. From "Little Willy" on, they forged a pop sound, always with a sly wink at the audience, never taking themselves too seriously. But when you had songs like "Ballroom Blitz," "Blockbuster," and "Fox on the Run," who really cared if you wore more makeup than a phalanx of runway models? For several years, Sweet could do absolutely no wrong. The remarkable thing is that, some quarter of a century on, the great stuff still sounds as fresh and as fun as it did when everyone wore feather cuts.--Chris Nickson Rerations < The Best of Sweet >

(Gotta love Pingu)
(Buy more than 1 copy of these!!!)
(In love with Pingu)
(Wonderfully witty) My daughter has always loved Pingu and it has always been a top choice on our TiVO menu. When the Sprout channel stopped individually listing it, we were in big trouble, so the dvds have been life-savers! This is the sweetest little video. Any child at any age and adults enjoy the silly little stories. A refreshing change from violence and yelling in other childrens videos. No one has to die but still has little life choices for children. Not sophisticated but a joy to watch. Pingu? What in the world is a Pingu? Pingu is a claymation style animated series about a little penguin and his antics. You cannot help but to fall in love with this show.
My son loves Pingu so much, he has worn out the 2 different dvd's available to the US. We are purchasing another set of dvd's so that we can all continue with our Pingu Addiction.
Pingu not only has great story lines but you can actually have your child fill in his own words to flesh out the story. This teaches your children how to not only use their own imagination but to also express themselves through the art of storytelling.
My son is now 4 but we found these dvd's when he was approximately 18months old and he is an old pro at telling his story. Each time he watches the dvd's he adds more and more to the story and the dialogue.
There are great little life lessons in each and every episode, that you do not even consciously realize your children are picking up on. They will learn about compassion, family values, forgiveness, and even responsibility. There are so many more lessons also that will be taken away from these shows. Powerful stuff for a show that does not even have a true dialogue.
I recommend Pingu to anyone and enjoy!
Tanya D. Doran I would recomend this video to children of all ages and even adults. My kids ages 3 and 1 can't get enough of this funny penguin. All stories have a positive and educational message. We are waiting for more releases... Great and wholesome viewing fun for children. I wish they would broadcast it regularly here in the states. Welcome to the world of Pingu! Pingu is a charming and cheeky young penguin who lives in the snow and ice of the South Pole. The mischievous penguin often finds himself in tricky and comical situations, but he always learns a valuable lesson. Pingu spends his days with his parents and baby sister, Pinga, as well as his best friends, Robbie the Seal. In Pingu's community, everyone speaks "Penguinese," a humorous, expressive and universal language. The award-winning Pingu is a classic, stop-frame claymation series that appeals to millions worldwide, as they follow the fun-filled adventures of the lovable penguin. Approx. (THE DEFINATIVE DOCUMENTARY ON THE HISTORY OF SILENT FILMS.)
(Heartbreaking documentary/ Brilliant and British)
(A Fitting Testament To The Unsung Heroes Of Hollywood) I am very glad I got this collection, new, when I did!
This set of mini-documentaries and interviews are a treasure that is woefully overlooked in the growing interest in silent film groups.
Oh - to have it in DVD!
The silent star recounting their excitement and memories are infectious. This is a classic work - very well done - and but for the intro music and some graphics, holds it's age .
As many silent film collections that have come forward in the last few years - some very obscure - this set would have more mass-appeal - and including the later classic actors' views on the silents would be interesting to Classic Movie Fans as well.
That it includes very major silent film stars interviewed in-depth is remarkable and one can see and feel time roll back - and the actor/actress reborn. Some of my favorites are Viola Dana recollecting the death of her fiance in an aerial stunt for the movies. The other is (I believe - I'm writing this from memory) Hal Roach's ribauld memories and also King Vidor's observations.
It's like sitting on the backlot of an old movie studio - and hearing the gossip retold of the teens and twenties!
This set caught my interest in silent film when I was in my teens viewing it in the early 1980's. It never let-go.
Does anyone know who can be written to request the DVD version be produced?
Thank you.
I wish they would bring the whole series by Kevin Brownlow out on DVD, but since they haven't, I settled for getting the one episode(there are many) I wanted the most. This DVD includes two parts, one on Clara Bow and one on John Gilbert. Both of these great silent stars didn't make it into the sound era. I am fascinated with John Gilbert's story, so I wanted to see this. I've actually seen the entire Hollywood story I fell in love with this series when it first appeared on PBS. Not only was it an excellent documentary, it gave many viewers their first and, probably, last look at stars from the silent era; most of whom would be dead within the next 5 years. Also since saving film wasn't much a concern back then, many of the clips used have probably deteriorated to dust. My only complaint is that this excellent 11+ hours series isn't released on DVD in America, as yet, and I still have to lug out 13 individual VHS tapes to watch it instead of 2 or 3 DVDs in a compact case. Before there was Ken Burns to do it, there was an extraordinary documentary about silent film. Absolutely riveting in its wonderful arcana, in-person interviews, stock photos and footage, narration by James Mason, and the terrific music by the brilliant Carl Davis, this series is a must-see for anyone who loves film and wants to know where it all started!! There are facts and anecdotes here to amaze, and break the heart as well. Mason's voice-overs are perfect....one minute he's the objective narrator, and the next moment, his inflection can have you chuckling, or tearing up at the stories of all the various players in the early days of Hollywood. And has there ever been a more beautiful score for television, or film for that matter, than the work of Carl Davis?? His opening title alone for the credits is gorgeous, and the producers then use different pieces that Davis has composed for these silent films. If only his music had been available to the original producers and directors for them to hear. Obviously, Davis must be one of the biggest fans of silent film of all time. If you can get a copy of this series, do so. It is never shown on television anymore, and it's a terrible thought that this series could be lost through neglect the way so much of the film from the 20's and 30's has been lost. It has been estimated that more than half of all silent film has disintegrated or been disposed of. Let's hope that the producers of this major documentary series re-release it on DVD as soon as possible for the many fans who remember it, and for the many more fans who will, I'm sure, be thrilled to discover it. Having written a school drama project on stuntmen this episode, from what I would call the definitive series on Hollywood and the names that made it famous, is a gold mine of information for the researcher. This episode in particular is filled with sheer pathos and moving accounts from the memories of the great unsung heroes of the silver screen. A crying shame then that there is no dvd release of this valuable series. Many of them involved in the interviews (even the narrator) are now dead. How important then that this documentary needs re-releasing? Rerations < Hollywood: A Celebration of the American Silent Film - The Pioneers >

customer 's review (Clever punchy British black comedy)
(An oh-so-black comedy)
(Strangers on a Bridge)
(Some great moments, but ultimately lacking cohesion)
(Perfect!!!) Taking a cue from American ex-pat Patricia Highsmith's Strangers on a Train, playwright Alan Ayckbourn penned the plays on which Sweet Revenge was based, in whith two strangers each agree to bump off the person causing him/her the most misery in their respective lives.
Of course Ayckbourn can't duplicate what Highsmith had already brilliantly done, so he starts things off with both parties being suicidal (definitely NOT part of the Highsmith story), then moves in very different directions from Highsmith indeed.
Malcolm Mowbray, the talented director of this movie, (he also directed another punchy black comedy, but set in the States, Out Cold--with Teri Garr, John Lithgow and Randy Quaid--highly recommended), has done a great job deftly blending wry British humor with black comedy (very black, indeed) as well as romantic highjinks and some outright guffaws.
When you see sparrows blithely flying around a living room, part of a huge mansion in which the younger son rides his motor scooter on a regular basis and the older sister (one of the two parties involved in the revenge pact) changes her appearance in the blink of an artistocratic eye, you can tell there's a lot of fun to be had.
And there is. Highsmith's story has no comedy whatsoever, but Ayckbourn is a master of this mesh of comedy and biting stuff, and that comes across beautifully in this film version. The acting by the three leads (Sam Neill, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Helena Bonham Carter) is great, with the definite nod for scene stealer going to Ms. Carter, who seems capable of doing basically anything in front of a camera (see Fight Club and Twelfth Night for radically different and consistently excellent performances).
A very nice piece of work. Recommended! I purchased this because of the rave reviews on Amazon and because I loved Aykbourn's brilliant The Norman Conquests. But this film, while it has its moments, is a studiously black comedy that doesn't come off. It works too hard at being completely off the wall, and ultimately disappoints. It's just mayhem, designed to draw laughs. Well, it does, but only occasionally. (Imagine playing Count Basie at the expiration of a villain. That's Mel Brooks country.) Yes, Helena Bonham Carter is an excellent actress. But it's all so contrived, complete with a wink at the camera at the end. Save your money. As the story begins, Henry (Sam Neill) has lost his job to an unscrupulous co-worker, and has decided to end it all by jumping off Tower Bridge. There he meets eccentric Karen (Helena Bonham Carter) who has just bungled her own suicide attempt (her lover went back to his wife). They start talking about how much they wish their enemies were dead and Karen gleefully suggests they each do the job for the other. Henry assumes she's kidding, of course, but the next morning he finds Karen has gone ahead with the plan.
If you think this plot sounds a lot like Hitchcock's thriller, "Strangers on a Train," you're right. The difference is this one's played for big laughs with dark humor that I really enjoyed. Neill is very good as the innocent man who gets caught up in the wacky plot hatched by Bonham Carter's character. She steals the show with her outrageous cheekiness. Kristin Scott Thomas is the lover's haughty wife, and no one plays the disdainful aristocrat better than she does. Comic actor Steve Coogan is hysterical as Henry's nemesis. If you like British comedies, you'll love "Sweet Revenge;" it's fast, funny, and loaded with droll upper-class humor. Excellent!
Kona I generally enjoy British comedies and prefer a good, thoughtful snicker over slapstick fun. When I watched this, I wanted to like it. And when I read the reviews after watching it, I'm really trying to like it. But I can't entirely agree with the other reviews...not because they're wrong, just my taste differs.
I feel like the movie had so many great elements (including as others have said some excellent acting) and could have been truly hilarious, but it just went a little off kilter somewhere and couldn't quite stay on track. Just as you warmed up to one element, something else would spoil the moment.
My initial reaction was "what a crazy movie!" Karen appears to be a complete maniac and Henry is extremely slow to catch on in some ways (i.e., he realizes Karen is quite dangerous from the start but doesn't seem to have any other way of dealing with her than really unitelligent honesty). The brother Oliver is great and there are a lot of small scenes that the film does quite well (when the kippers cause an embarassing stain, the way the young maid Norma is treated, etc).
But I disagree that Imogen was affected and arrogant. She responded to the view of Karen (her husband's former mistress) with the cold fury of someone attempting to maintain composure in the face of great strain. If a spouse brought me to an outing with their former "lover", I'd be pretty mad too. Her first comment to Henry is indicative of her frustration and she says it without thinking.
But how would anyone like Karen or Imogen find Anthony appealing? I found it farfetched how quickly Imogen fell for Henry and vice versa, upon their second meeting he tries to kiss her. And it seems unlikely that someone who suffered from frequent asthma would not carry their ventilator in their pocket (but maybe I am uninformed on this score).
Towards the end, it began lacking a feeling of cohesion and felt more like random funny moments appended to each other. The ending didn't feel like you arrived at a destination, more like it just stopped somewhere when we ran out of time and patched on a quick finish. Anyway, some people liked this so it's definitely got a following, just didn't appeal to me. Maybe it will grow on me in time. I loved every second of this film. I can't imagine how anyone could not like it. It's funny, full of talented actors esp Sam Neill. Thoroughly entertaining!! A great buy. As Henry Bell (Sam Neill fromJurassic ParkandThe Piano) is preparing to throw himself off the Tower Bridge in London, he hears cries of help, which lead him to Karen Knightly (Helena Bonham Carter,Fight Club,Howard's End), who has just thrown herself off of the bridge and gotten her belt caught on a protuberance. In short time they're telling each other what led them to take this drastic step, how they'd each like to kill a certain person who has made each of their lives miserable. Karen hatches a plan: They'll each take on the other's act of revenge. Henry's not so sure about this, but when he wakes up the following morning Karen's plans are already underway. She's fiercely determined that he keep up his end of the bargain and ruin the life of Imogen (Kristin Scott Thomas,The English Patient,Four Weddings and a Funeral). Unfortunately, Henry falls in love with Imogen instead, leaving Karen with no choice but to enact revenge on Henry as well. Adapted from a play by Alan Ayckbourn,Sweet Revengeis blessed with sweet and funny performances by the three leads (who seem delighted by the opportunity to be frivolous), as well as capable work from a supporting cast of British character actors.--Bret Fetzer Rerations < Sweet Revenge >
