(It's perfect)
『This is the perfect set for a little girl, our 15 month old loves it. It has very soft pretty colors. I love that the top sheet is fitted at the bottom so it won't ride up on our little one. I just wish they had made the comforter and top sheet a little longer since it barely goes above our guard rails on the toddler bed. Our little one sleeps with her head pressed against the headboard, so the sheet and blanket just cover her butt. I would definitely buy another set from Lambs and Ivy.』

(Different sheets than shown)
『I ordered this for my daighter who is turning 2. I searched every site and this was the cutest for the best price. I was dissapointed however when I received it and the sheet set was not the flowers as shown in the photos, but a bright purple plaid that does not match the bedspread.』

(Cute bedding!)
『I spent hours surfing the internet looking for the "perfect" bedding for my daughter. She's turning one and it was time to get rid of the "baby look". This is so cute and not babyish. I love the colors! I can't wait to redecorate her room!!』
『Set includes: Blanket, Fitted Sheet, Top Sheet and Pillow Case. Designed to fit a toddler bed using a crib sized mattress.』

(Cutest Little Lunch Bag....)
『I use this bag for my 19 month old's lunch. It is cute and all his food fits. I have no complaints. Everyone always compliments it.』
『Snack sacs are the perfect size for a complete lunch or a small snack. Adorable on their own, these insulated totes also fit perfectly inside the Stephen Joseph quilted backpacks and Stephen Joseph Go-Go backpacks. Snack Sacs have simple closure for little fingers, 11" shoulder strap, and 12 sweet notes to tuck inside.』

(Talented but just over the top)
『It is hard to judge music from the snippets available online. I purchased this CD, but wasn't really sure. When I received it and had a chance to actually listen, sometimes I just burst out laughing. Midway through every track you need to brace, because you can hear it coming, all the heavy-handed octaves. This man is so enormously talented, but, honestly, over the edge. If the tracks are busy, it is not because of the selections elected for medley; the musical choices themselves work well. Some of these tracks would be so nice if he just knew when to quit. I purchased a second copy as a joke gift. :)』

(Amazing skills, yet too busy for listening enjoyment)
『I can't believe how well John Bayless has mastered the piano. This is very obvious from the first song that you ever hear him play. I'd really like to watch him play in concert. However, the songs on this album are too much work for me to listen to. The music is so busy that I can hardly concentrate on the melody and it hardly gives me the peace I expect from traditional Christmas music. Some of my favorites for this category are Jim Brickman, David Huntsinger, and Tim Janis.』

(John Bayless Christmas Rhapsody)
『Christmas Rhapsody has quickly become one of our all time favorite Chistmas CDs. We love it so much that it is February 10th and we are still listening to it.』

(best concert pianist in the world)
『John Bayless is the best concert pianist in the world. This album shows his genuis. Perfect music to listen to any time of the year.
This is the best Christmas album on the market.』

(My favorite of the season)
『This is the holiday music I have listened to throughout the season, and it is so beautiful I cannot bear to put it away yet. I love Bayless's work at any time, and these arrangements simply take my breath away. His blending of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" with "Going Home" from the New World Symphony is particulary poignant. And his signature "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring/Amazing Grace" is seasonless and timeless. Christmas is over, but get this anyway; it's wonderful.』

(Wow!)
『K Battle is the 'Nat King Cole of opera!' So smooth, warm and beautiful yet surprisingly lyrical and a vocal range that is remarkable. The high notes are chrystal clear yet with that smoothness and warmth mentioned earlier. You won't be disappointed.』

(A great collection of works by one of the best voices of our time)
『Kathleen Battle is the owner of one of the best vocal instruments of our time. Her sweet tones radiate through these pieces. Two of my personal favorites are #5 S'altro che lagrime and #10 Ah! Tardai troppo... O luce di quest' anima. This is definitely a collection worth having and is an excellent addition to her stellar discography. Even my friend who's not really into a lot of opera and classical music wanted to borrow this from me. Say what you will about her, her recordings rock!!』

(The art of Kathleen Battle)
『This represents a good introduction to Kathleen Battle's talents. She has a rich lyric soprano voice--who can also sing the coloratura repertoire effectively. That is a pleasing combination. Some of the contemporary coloratura sopranos, such as Natalie Dessay, may essay the ornamentation better than Battle, but the richness of Battle's voice helps counterbalance that. Both are very effective, but their strengths are somewhat different.

Her version of "Porgi amor" from "Le Nozze di Figaro" is delightful. She sings this smoothly with her rich lyric voice. This is poignantly rendered. Very nice indeed.

"Je Suis Titania" is a wonderful coloratura piece. Battle sings this in animated fashion. The work calls for vocal agility, and Battle has that. She displays good ornamentation. There is a harsh high note toward the end. Her trilling is adequate, but not great. Overall, though, a very nice version indeed.

Then there is the delightful "O luce di quest'anima" from Donizetti's "Linda di Chamounix." One issue when anyone sings this is the standards set by sopranos such as Joan Sutherland, Beverly Sills, and Sumi Jo. And Battle does not compare badly at all! The cabaletta is well sung, with nice agility and good florid singing. After listening to Battle, I listened to Jo's version. While I think that Jo has better coloratura technique and has a preferable version, Battle, nonetheless, does not compare badly.

For fun. . . . Strauss' waltz, "The Voices of Spring." Another nice comparison, this time with Natalie Dessay. Battle's version is done well. She has the requisite agility to make this work. Her trills are okay; good staccato singing. Comparing with Dessay? Maybe apples and oranges. Dessay's final high note is stunning. Battle's is fine, but not much comparison here. Battle's voice is richer and more attractive, but Dessay has a more typical lighter voice for coloratura works. Dessay's version is more animated and more spirited. In the end, though, Battle fares well in such a comparison.

"Swing Low Sweet Chariot" is sung well. It is a ravishing version and wonderful to listen to.

One of the fun things to do, with the ready accessibility of CDs, is to compare singers with one another. Here, comparing Battle's art with that of Dessay, Sutherland, Sills, and Jo is useful. In the final analysis, Battle compares pretty well.

(A wide presentation of the work of an amazing artist)
『This CD provides a sampling of Kathleen Battle's voice and interpretive abilities from coloratura virtuousity (Voices of Spring) to the simple, heartfelt spiritual (Talk about a child).

First of all, there's THAT voice. You hear a voice that is uniquely angelic and capable of expressing a wide range of moods. You hear a voice that glitters like a diamond, skips happily and effortlessly (and in impeccable tune) from note to note like it's nobody's business, one that that reminds you of moonbeams and early morning dew on pink rose petals. You've simply got to her it to believe it.

On this CD, the listener is provided with the the works/composers for which she's well known: Handel Opera (E pur cosi / piangero la sorte mia), Mozart Opera (S'altro che lagrime), Bel Canto Opera (Ah, tardai troppo...), French Opera (Depuis le jour), spirituals, and a few popular songs for sopranos such as Gershwin's Summertime and Faure's Pie Jesu

If you're just popping the CD in, try: (1) Ah, tardai troppo, (2) Voices of Spring, (3) Talk about a child, (4) I loves you, Porgy, and (5) Pie Jesu.

I suppose if you are a fan of heavy, dramatic voices, Kathleen Battle may not be to your liking. But I suspect that if you listen to her, you still might be amazed...』

(A Great Coloratura Soprano)
『Coloratura sopranos are a dying breed today. The era of Lily Pons and Beverly Sills is long gone and opera audiences favor a more "heavy" coloratura sound- or at least a full lyric one, such as the voice types of Kiri Te Kenawa, Carol Vanness and Renee Fleming. Kathleen Battle was in many ways an artist who payed homage to the coloratura queens of olden days. Only Natalie Dessay, of late, represents that kind of singer. much This album showcases her best work, and she is in fine voice, bringing a luminous and sunny quality to her interpretations, while keeping the dramatic appeal of the text. She was at best a Handel/Mozart/Strauss/Gounod singer, and never fared well in the more dramatic reperotoire of Verdi or Puccini heroines. She never sang Madame Butterfly, which if she had gone through training, she could have nailed, especially because her dramatic aspirations coupled with her soft, vulnerable sound would have suited her as Ciao Ciao San, in the way that Ying Huang interpreted the role. Verdi opera must have frightened her and she could never dream of taking on the roles that Leontyne Price performed, surely an influence in her student days made all the more credible because Leontyne Price was a "sister" African-American. So Leonora, Aida and Suor Angelica were out of her reach. While she sang with Jessie Norman in concert and recitals (like the Spirituals Concert), she must have been secretly or overtly ? jealous of the fact that Jessye Norman had a voice that could swallow the world!! A big, beautiful voice such as Ms. Norman's is closer to the true goddesses of operas in the tradition of Maria Callas, while Battle is more of the "tiny, bright, canary" voice. She ranks among the best of the lighter sopranos- Beverly Sills, and like Sumi Jo today. Her fellow co-artists used to call her the "Singing Mosquito". But she is marvelous in singing Handel oratorio(the only times I've heard her sing live), Mozart- Sussannah, Zerlina, the Countess in Figaro, Gounod- Juliette, Bizet- Micaela, but could never truly master the more difficult Mozart heroines- Dona Ana in Don Giovanni or Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte or even Konstanza in Die Entfurung, though try she did. In Strauss operas, she made a fine Zerbinetta, though she always oozed a confidence that made it seem as if these difficult pieces were a piece of cake for her. Some arias in this collection appear that way too.

Kathleen Battle has long since disappeared from the opera world, singing off and on. Her last singing engagement was for the soundtrack to the Japanese action saga "House of Flying Daggers" in which she sings in a very Japanese/poetic style. Before that she sang in Mythodea opposite Jessie Norman in a massive choral work by Vangelis, and also in Disney's Fantasia 2000. Her constant bitchiness, diva antics and disrespect to conductors and singers became too much and finally Joseph Volpe fired her from the Met. She had stayed there for so long because James Levine took a shine to her. As a singer, she was a perfectionist and in her body of work it shows. But she displayed a nasty diva temperament that does not sit well today. In the 80's, she would come to rehearsals late, would criticize everyone from conductor to costuma makers and even once disrespected the much older and experienced Rosalind Elias, a beloved mezzo at the Met. While I think that Volpe did the right thin in firing Battle, I think that Battle's voice is glorious and would buy her albums, even if she mostly poses as if she were in Vogue cover shots.』

(Yes, could do with a couple of other songs instead of....)
『I just noticed one of the tags which said, "dad's gift"! Come on already! This is cool stuff, played by hip young musicians! It doesn't matter what era you're from, if it's good, it's good! Period! My dad,(who's now in his 80's), delighted me a couple of years ago, when he told me he was a doorman/bouncer at the Palais Royale in Toronto when he was young, and Benny Goodman, Tommy Dorsey, etc., used to play there!
I'm a musician (guitarist), and I play everything from heavy-metal and jazz fusion to electronica.
What people don't seem to realise is that this is powerful, rhythmic, swinging, loud, hip, big band music, played by guys (and girls singing) generally in their late teens to early 30's, which makes it every bit as energetic and youthful as any type of "rock" music of today, or otherwise! That's why NOBODY can possibly duplicate what they did back then, in these new "tribute" big bands. And the musicians in today's so-called swing era big bands, just seem to be going through the motions. Forget it! They sound cold, fake, trebely, corny, loungey, and the drums are too loud- there seems to have been a precise reason why the original big bands had the balance and sound they did!
With comparisons to rock and various types of music today, all the individual instruments back then didn't have microphones up close, or inside, going through gigantic sound systems, pumping out thousands of watts, like a typical concert of today, they just had their own individual, and collective lung power! Wow! and that speaks volumes!
Still, I like this CD, except, I really miss "Don't Be That Way", and a couple of others that I think would have made this a "five star". But it's still very good!』

(Not The Best Benny Goodman Compilation Around - But Not Bad)
『I agree - to a point - with the 1-star review in that the liner notes written by Chick Crumpacker, co-author of Jazz Legends, are skimpy (one page) and that the information on each track is minimal, being confined to composers and recording dates. There is no proper discography showing Victor label numbers, vocalists, and chart details. But I wouldn't call the sound quality poor. Of course, I'm not an audiophile so I don't look for "pristine" perfect. As long as there is no loud discernible hiss, scratch and pop I'm fine with it, and that's the case here. It's fine.

However, where I also find fault with the album is the title "Greatest Hits" as three of the 15 tracks were never hits per se for Benny, and he DID, after all, have 75 Victor hits from which to choose. The non-hits here are Get Happy, which was the flip of Christopher Columbus in the spring of 1936 on Victor 25279, Tea For Two, the flip of Runnin' Wild on Victor 25529 in February 1937, and Always, the B-side of Japanese Sandman on Victor 25024 in June 1935. Only the latter among these cuts was ever a hit, reaching # 10.

Of those that are here, most are instrumentals the earliest of which are represented by the fall 1935 two-sided Body And Soul from the Broadway musical Three's A Crowd (# 5) and its flipside, After You've Gone (# 20), both by The Benny Goodman Trio (Benny, drummer Gene Krupa and pianist Teddy Wilson) on Victor 25115. Another from that same period is King Porter Stomp on Victor 25090 (# 10) by the full orchestra featuring a trumpet solo by Bunny Berigan, as does the early 1936 hit, Good-Bye on Victor 25215 (# 20), and which became Benny's closing theme.

In the summer of 1936 he had the instrumentals Stompin' At The Savoy reach # 11 on Victor 25247 in July, followed by In A Sentimental Mood on Victor 25351 (# 13 that August) and Moon Glow on Victor 25398 (# 8 in September). This was a re-recording of his 1934 # 1 on Columbia, done this time by The Benny Goodman Quartet featuring the Trio with the addition of vibraphonist Lionel Hampton. Later that fall, You Turned The Tables On Me became a # 1 in October with a vocal by Helen Ward on Victor 25391, while a new version of the 1934 Columbia hit, Love Me Or Leave Me, this time by The Benny Goodman Quartet, reached # 4 on Victor 25406. Then, in December, Bugle Call Rag, yet another re-recording of a 1934 Columbia hit, made it to # 13 on Victor 25467.

Early in 1937, with vocal by the great Ella Fitzgerald and featuring the trumpet of Harry James for the first time, he had a # 1 smash (four weeks at the top) with Goodnight, My Love from the film Stowaway on Victor 25461. The latest hit here is 1938's Sing, Sing, Sing (With A Swing), considered by many musical historians to be the band's greatest record ever. Selected for the NARAS (National Academy Of Recording Arts And Sciences) this peaked at # 7 in April 1938 on Victor 25796. With an interpolation of Christopher Columbus included, it marked the final recording involving Gene Krupa with the band.

So, not a bad disc by any means, but one which would have been turned into a 5-star volume by the inclusion of some hits in place of those three that weren't - such as the two-sided # 1, It's Been So Long/Goody-Goody (vocals by Helen Ward) and the # 1 These Foolish Things Remind Me Of You, all from 1936 and involving vocals by Ward. Or perhaps the 1937 and 1938 # 1's This Year's Kisses with vocal by Jimmy Rushing and the instrumental Don't Be That Way and its B-side, One O'Clock Jump.

It should also have had more information on the tracks such as provided above because this is what many buyers look for in these historical compilations.』

(The King of Swing)
『This disc contains 15 of Benny Goodman's songs from the last half of the 1930s, near the peak of the swing era. Goodman was a giant of twentieth century popular music, and numbers such as the joyous "Stompin' at the Savoy" and the mesmerizing "Goodbye" are prime reasons why his music has not fallen into obscurity seven decades after it was popular.

("In A Sentimental Mood")
『"If an individual allows his personal standard to be eroded, something of what he does is going to be compromised. It's a matter of detail, sometimes when you start losing detail, whether it's in music or in life, something as small as not sending a thank-you note, of failing to be polite to someone, you start to lose substance." ~ Benny Goodman (1909-1986) ~

The above quote was part of Benny Goodman's responses to Glenn Miller's questions to him before he had his own band: "How do you do it? How do you get started?" His initial advice was "I don't know but whatever you do, don't stop. Just keep on going. Because one way or the other, if you want to find reasons why you shouldn't keep on, you'll find them. The obstacles are all there; there are a million of them. But if you want to do something, you do it anyway, and handle the obstacles as they come. Even to this day, I don't like people walking on stage not looking good. You have to look good. If you feel special about yourself then you're going to play special." That was a totally brilliant advice from a talented jazz artist to another one-in-the-making back then. Definitely Glenn Miller paid attention to his advice and became one of the most successful recording artists in his time.

A very fine clarinetist, a Lifetime Achievement Grammy Awardee and the King of Swing, Benny Goodman was one the greatest jazz artists along with Glenn Miller in the Big Band Era.

This CD features a collection of fifteen Benny Goodman's greatest hits recorded between 1935 and 1937. My personal choices from this compilation include Irving Berlin's "Always," Kurtz/Mills/Ellington's "In A Sentimental Mood" and Gordon Jenkins' "Goodbye." These tunes were recorded by Benny Goodman and his Orchestra.

"Body and Soul" and "After You've Gone" are two tracks from The Benny Goodman Trio (Benny Goodman on clarinet, Teddy Wilson on piano and Gene Krupa on drums). It was Gene Krupa who bestowed upon him the title of undisputed "King of Swing."

Two of the best tracks are "Tea For Two" and "Moonglow," which were recorded by The Benny Goodman Quartet (the Trio plus Lionel Hampton on vibes).

I highly recommend this wonderful CD to add to your collection of timeless Big Band music. Great music to listen to if you're in a sentimental mood!

(Satisfaction with this one depends on your budget...)
『If you like your jazz/swing to be pre-World War II, this disc's for you. Here are 15 cuts with Benny and orchestra, featuring pianist Teddy Wilson, drummer Gene Krupa and Lionel Hampton on vibes. You get 53 minutes of tracks laid down in the 1930's, including some famous songs and performances. With all that said, however, this RCA release may not be the best value available in Goodman CD's. The liner notes are brief, there is little data on the songs or the settings. Two of the four booklet pages are wasted touting other releases in this particular RCA "Greatest Hits" series. My copy says the disc was issued in 1996. But nowhere does it say "remastered." While the songs are not really scratchy, one can tell the original sources here were not in perfect shape or cleaned up digitally. I found my copy at a bargain price, so I am satisfied. The music, after all, is vintage Benny Goodman, and the sound quality is acceptable. If you want the single best CD of his hits that's in print, however, you might look at the other items in the Amazon listing. Read some reviews, compare prices---you might be happier with a different choice.』

(Agreed One Disgusting and Degrading Film.)
『This movie has to be the worst of the Genre, there is no point to it, its disgusting and revolting, it's like a really bad porno, he does this disgusting chubby white girl in the middle of a club, it's gross and has no point. It's not really sticking it to the man if that was what it was intended to do as most similar (related) films are.』

(Disgusting, this is nothing but one long Porno/Running marathon.)

The entire movie has no point, and certainly no purpose. What ever "Black Power" message this film was trying to make is lost. You'll find yourself spending most of your time trying to figure out just what in the hell this movie is about. This may have been one of the first "Black Power" movies from the 70's and it's also the worst.

Sweetback pretty much runs through the entire movie, and when he is not running, he is having sex. It only breaks from that cycle to show him beating up a cop or few. The weird thing about this film is that the "Sex" has nothing to do with anything! It's mostly just out of context the entire film. This movie really has no plot. It's actually just Melvin Van Peebles running from the city to the desert.

Watching this movie is like getting high. It's confusing, it makes no sense, and it's just strange as hell. "You bled my mamma, You bled my pappa, but you won't bleed me" get used to that phrase, because that's all you'll ever hear in the back tracking music this entire film. Interestingly enough Earthwind and Fire provided the music for this film, this being one of their earliest gigs. That's probably the only signifigant thing in this film worth taking note of.

I can't even think of a single solitary reason why this is worth watching today. It cetainly is not worth owning. I'm suprised this even made it from VHS to DVD. I mean I don't mind the badly recorded audio or visuals of this film, I expect that. There's plenty of low budget films that look horrible; however, a good low budget film makes up for that with an outstanding storyline. This waste of footage has neither.

I don't care if this is supposed to be a great "Black" accomplishment, this is trash! This is more of a great "Black" embarassment. If your looking for a 70's Black Power flick with a message I highly recommend "Watermelon Man." Now that's a great film.

The only thing this films stands as today is a reminder, that even people with absolutely no talent can produce something that generates them money.』

(Grade Z home made exploitation-groundbreaking MYAAAASS)
『I agree with the other ONE STAR raters of this "film"--Whatever it's intent, cultural timing or underground anti-establishment accolades--the film is TERRIBLE--Terrible in EVERY way--there are no redeeming qualities to speak of--It is a miracle anyone knows anything about this film all these decades later--Great films made during this era have been 90% forgotten, while this is revered--don't get it!』

(weid movie)
『I only watch this movie because I love everything about the 70's, but this movie is not that good to me.』

(The Quintessential Independent Blaxplotation Film Of All Time!!!)
『I know this film has been trashed by critics both black and white for its heavy content (i.e. stautory rape scene, and interracial sex scene), but this film was given an X rating. Melvin Van Peebles, who is highly regarded as the "Godfather of Modern Black Cinema" put everything he had on the line to get this film made, despite the Supreme Court, death threats. Bill Cosby even co-financed the film.

Ten years ago, I purchased "Sweetback" on VHS, and I was completely, blown away by this controversial, yet revolutinary, independent Black film. Bottom Line: If it weren't for Melvin Van Peebles raising the bar in filmmaking, there would be no Spike Lee or John Singleton.』

『Raw, jagged, and explosively angry,Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Songis a landmark in American independent cinema. Melvin Van Peebles directed, wrote, produced, edited, scored, and stars as Sweetback, a passive bouncer raised in a brothel. Shot guerrilla style on a starvation budget on the streets of Los Angeles, it's a violent tale of Sweetback's journey from passive acceptance to political awareness and active defiance. He becomes the target of a manhunt when he kills two cops who beat up a young black activist, and he bounces from hideout to hideout before running for the border, all the while getting more booty than Shaft and Superfly put together. The movie was so inflammatory by conservative industry standards that it was "Rated X by an All White Jury," which the ads proudly touted. The unusual mix of agitprop and exploitation is directed in a jagged style that recalls Godard and set to a funky score performed by Earth, Wind&Fire, which Van Peebles intercuts with chanting Greek chorus-like slogans. Released independently, it was a huge hit and effectively spawned the blaxploitation genre, but none of the films that followed ever recaptured the energy, the anger, and the social politics of this breakthrough in independent cinema.--Sean Axmaker

(Great history lesson on Australian involvement in WWI)
『Good Movie, Covers much WWI history as it pertains to the involvement of Australia&New Zeland in the Great war.』

(An Outstanding Mini-Series Whittled Down To A Couple Hours)
『First off, the American VHS release, listed here, has been dramatically edited from it's original six plus hours to down around two. This is very unfortunate. While the cut down version in itself is not a bad movie, the uncut series is nothing short of outstanding. The acting and production values are top notch ( Paul Hogan is fantastic, as are Andrew Clarke and Jon Blake ). World War 1 buffs will be very pleased at the dedication to authenticity in the series. In fact to me the series is almost on par with Spielberg's Band of Brothers. At any rate, while I can only give the American VHS release 3 stars due to it's editing, the uncut mini-series is definately a 5 star in my book. The uncut 3 disc DVD ( Region 4 ) is often available on EBAY. While it cannot be watched on an American DVD player, it can be viewed on a laptop or PC with a DVD drive.』

(Great Movie for WWI Buffs)
『This is one of the best WWI movies to be made in a long time. I highly reccommend it. I would have given it 5 stars except for the fact that it isn't edited very good. The orginal version is six hours long and they crammed it into two. There are scenes that are out of place and you can easily tell this by looking at the character's ranks. There is also hardly any transition between Gallipoli and France. Thats what happens when you condense a movie. Both of these are minor and maybe I am being nit picky. I have yet to see the full six hour version. I just recently ordered it. Once I view it I may edit this review.』

(Interesting Aussie Soaper...)
『This is an interesting chronicle of the ANZACs, the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps.

This made-for-Aussie-TV production is aimed squarely at the Australian audience, who still revere the memory of the ANZACs, the troops who suffered horrendous losses at Gallipoli in WWI. The heroism of the ANZACs became legendary. In fact, they fought so bravely and with such determination that the Turkish enemy erected a monument to them.

While it is true that the film (culled from a five-part mini-series), is not riveting entertainment compared to something like"Centennial"or"War and Rememberance", it does outline the feelings, views, and politics of the day faced by the ANZAC forces.

The Australian and New Zealand viewpoints of the Great War are rarely on display, and here we have all of the various sentiments played out before us. The overall feeling (still is tangible today), is that the incompetence and arrogance of British officers, under whom the ANZAC force operated, were directly responsible for the waste of lives in pointless charges against the heavily-entrenched Turkish forces.

The mini-series is positively anti-colonial in regards to the portrayal of the British as uncaring, and more interested in saving British lives than that of the Aussies or New Zealanders.

Paul Hogan will most likely be the only familliar face for American viewers. I would recommend the Mel Gibson film"Gallipoli"for those looking for a familliar cast and a relatively big budget look. That film also has more weight to it, and is more stylized.

While"ANZACs"does come off as a bit like"light drama", or perhaps almost a glorified soap opera, if someone is interested in the topic of WWI, and the Australian and New Zealand participation in particular, the mini-series is worth a viewing. For scholars studying the events in this theater of the war,"ANZACs"is a must see to examine both the attitudes of the day, and at the time the mini-series was made.』

(Twisted Sisters)
『Certainly worth watching, and has some very riveting moments. As very low budget horror films go, it's pretty decent, but it hasn't aged particularly well as a film. Margot Kidder's performance is the best part of the film. I find the homage to Hitchcok wearing at times, and if you compare this to Hitch's contemporary film, Frenzy, De Palma is clearly very much the apprentice. Even so, there's more than enough creepiness to go around here and it's fun to watch, which is a lot more than you can say for many other films.』

(Great suspense!!!)
『Awesome thriller.
Will remind Hitchcock.
Losely based on some true facts.
Has some intense scenes mid-way when it its all clear to the viewers.
Terrific start. End may not be the best.
A Must watch, buy if you can view thriller again and again.

In the end, a quality work. The way the story unfolds itself is one of the best I have ever seen.

(Does your sister have issues like this?)
『This is a great film! Although the acting is a bit rough for a few characters I found myself drawn into the story line. We have Danielle Breton (Margot Kidder) has a one-night stand with a black TV-game show player. The morning after, he is killed by Danielle's psycho twin sister, Dominique Blanchion. But Grace Collier (Jennifer Salt), an aspiring journalist, sees everything from her flat across the street. Things get even uglier when the journalist starts following Danielle and his strange ex-husband, Dr. Emil Breton (De Palma perennial weirdo Bill Finley). What dark secret lies behind this murder? Uh? Of course, nobody really seems to care about the plot - De Palma plays the genre rules, twisting every second with his split screen techniques and neat suspense touches. There is a "dream" sequence, some blood, a hideous scar, drugs and a birthday cake.

Sure, the movie owes more than a passing nod to Psycho (Collector's Edition) and Rear Window (Collector's Edition)specifically, but De Palma's exhilarating use of that split-screen technique as well as Margot Kidder's creepy performance add up to a genuinely frightening experience. The "peeping tom" opening is brilliant. The humor doesn't lessen the shock, but rather enhances it by keeping the audience continually caught off guard. He takes the most vulnerable and receptive of human reactions--laughter, fear, and anticipation--and pushes them to their extremes until the audience is caught up in giddy bewilderment. You don't know what the director is going to pull next, so you can't prepare yourself.

De Palma is nothing if not a visceral filmmaker, and in his comfort with the comic and the horrific, he resembles Roman Polanski more than he does Hitchcock. Taking into consideration their mutually varied filmographies and how they've been received, it seems a more apt comparison. The one major difference is that Polanski has a deep sense of the tragic, and almost always ends on that note. Not so much De Palma. In the final scene in Sisters, we find Charles Durning's private dick, who had all but disappeared from the movie, high up on a telephone pole dressed as an electrician, dutifully watching a couch through a pair of binoculars. The movie is over in every way--the blood has been shed, the mystery has been solved, and the suspense is gone--except that it apparently isn't. De Palma wants to leave us with something else. So we have Durning waiting to see who comes to get the couch. This could well be that Shock Recovery Period that the movie posters promoted. This was another great film that was highly recommended by Chris and the one only #1 Depalma fan R.A. Bean which I greatly enjoyed.

(DePalma's Psychotic Siamese Sisters...)
『In 1973, after spending the last few years making great independant films like "Murder a La Mod", "The Wedding Party", "Greetings", and "Hi, Mom!", Brian Depalma was put on the map as the new Master Of Suspense with his first 'mainstream' film, "Sisters", a very demented, deranged, twisted, psychological horror film that rivals even the best of todays top thrillers. He uses themes that would continue throughout his career in this film: The doppleganger, split personalities, multiple personality disorder(s), mistaken identity, voyuerism, and horrorfying psychological madness and muder and mayhem. And sinister satire!
The film starts as a game show "Peeping Toms" is being played out before a live audience. The contestant on the show, a young black man named Philip Woode (Lisle Wilson), and the guest 'prankster', a model named Danillele Breton (Margot Kidder in her BEST performance ever). After the show is over, Philip recieves a gift card which is a ticket for two to have a free dinner at an African themed restaraunt, and for Danielle's participation on the show, she recieves a very nice set of steak knives (establishing sterotypes and irony in one set piece).
They attend dinner together, where they are followed by Danielle's ex-husband, Emil Breton (William Finley), but he is removed from the restaraunt; so they have a very nice dinner together, then go to Danielle's to spend the night together. As they are making out, we are shown a very large, ugly scar on Danielle's thigh.?.?.
The next morning, there is loud yelling from the next room, someone calling out "Danielle! Danielle!" in a very impatient voice that awakens Danielle, who goes to respond, having a conversation, one person speaking French, and Danielle in French-English (the accent she has throughout the entire film); then coming back and telling Philip that it was her sister, well, her twin sister, Dominique, and she is upset because today is their birthday, and she wanted to spend the day together, and is upset that Danielle has a man in the apartment. Philip gets dressed, and goes to the local pharmacy for Danielle to pick up a prescription for her, and in the meantime he drops by a local bakery and buys a birthday cake for the twin sisters, Dominique and Danielle. When he returns to the apatment, he is murdered in a very shocking scene that I will not detail for I don't wanna spoil it for people who haven't seen the film.
From a window in a buiding next to Danielle's apartment building, a young female reporter, Grace Collier (Jennifer Salt) witnesses the entire muder in an awesome split screen scene that DePalma first employed in this film; and, in which he uses effectively in a few more scenes. She calls the cops, there is an investigation, but no body is found, but this is when Grace starts noticing signs and/or clues that Danielle may have a sister, a TWIN sister, and all is not what it appears to be; so, she hires a private detective, Joseph Larch (Charles Durning). He finds a folder that has files on the Blanchion twins, an infamous story about two Siamese twins who got seperated about a year before, so Grace investigates the story further by seeking out the top reporter that was there during the operation, Mr. McClennon (Bernard Hughes), who tells Grace that Dominique died on the operating table.?.?.?.
And, this leads Grace, who in her (God bless her heart) naivete, and stubborness, and her drive to someday be a 'respected' journalist, on a search that ends in a psychological/sinister/demented/deranged/almost psychodelic/hypnotic/kaleidoscopic/bloody climax that will leave you utterly stunned, breathless, and scared witless!
And, the final twist at the end, where a particular character is watching a particular item through binoculars until the cows (literally) come home is awesome and utterly hilarious, but also very bone chilling all the same.
Of special mention: DePalma cast Jennifer Salt's real-life mother, Mary Davenport as Grace's mother. One of the cops was played by Dolph Sweet, who is remembered for his role on the tv sitcom "Gimme A Break". And, the awesome score was done by the great Bernard Herrmann, who DePalma got to come out of retirement to do, and who went on to score DePalma's "Obsession". And, DePalma originally wanted to get bigger name stars for the roles of Grace and Philip: He wanted to get Marlo Thomas to play Grace, and Sydney Poitner to play Philip, but due to budget constraints, and/or other reasons, that never came to fuition, which in my opinion is a good thing, because what may have appeared as a good idea on paper, I don't think would have worked as well on screen. Jennifer Salt (who had been in DePalma's "The Wedding Party" and "Hi, Mom!") was born for this role, and Lisle Wilson gave a very topnotch performance as the 'male Janet Leigh'.
This is a very great mixture of genres, mainly horror and satire, and something that will stick in the recesses of your mind and stay there for days and days to come, and haunt you on a very deep scale.
As one reviewer on here put it, this isn't DePalma's first film, but in many ways, it is the first 'Brian DePalma film'. Easily in the same league as "Psycho", "Halloween", "Suspiria", "Rosemary's Baby", "Repulsion", and referencing such greats as "Rope", "Rear Window", "Psycho", and "The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari", this is a very timeless classic masterpiece that will rival anything in its genre that you've ever seen! And, why Margot Kidder didn't have every award there is thrown at her for her performance is a crime, for she is show stopping in this.
Currently, there is a remake of this trying to get thatrical disribution...AVOID it!!!
This is the ONLY version of "Sisters" you'll ever want and/or need to see!
Thank you&happy Halloween! ;-)』

(Siamese Twins with a French-Canadian Twist)
『Watching the 'Special Features' section on Siamese Twins on the DVD, they make it look like the director wanted to pay homage to Siamese Twins in general. However, this film is far from it. If you always thought of Siamese Twins as sort of freaky/weird, then heres your chance to think of them as functionally delusional and hysterically dysfunctional as well. In this case, this works for the movie, but in real life does a disservice to the noble, yet troubled life plaguing many real life Siamese Twins.

Margot Kidder (with the most over the top Quebecois accent this side of Montreal) is wonderful in a role that doesn't shy away from showing her in an unflattering physical light. It is clear that this is a woman whose charms are enhanced by make-up alone, and she plays this card to the hilt. As one half of a Siamese Twin couple that were surgically separated, Margot plays Danielle, a mentally disturbed young woman who takes on her sisters' persona once her sister died on the surgical table during their separation process. Due to this, Danielle becomes a pathological killer with a penchant for blood, but of course when she 'comes to' she can't remember any of it. How convenient.

The director deals with all sorts of interesting issues here. Push through the intelligent script and you'll find a subtle irony in how the movie deals with racism (still very perceptible in 1973 when the movie was shot), to the bleakness of modern urban and suburban life, where 'Peeping Toms' are virtually you and I (better executed in the recent 'Disturbia').

The final shot of the film alienated many core fans of the movie to that point, as it seemed to many viewers as nonsensical and idiotic. Its sort of funny, actually, and reduces the movie from being a serious crime-noir to becoming a more pedestrian comedy. This minor flaw apart, the rest of the film plays out wonderfully. The now-famous 'split screen' effect first found its roots' here (yes, it was done in other films too, but this was the first time so much of it was used, and to great effect, even with overlapping dialogue).

The posters and adverts for this portray 'Sisters' as a companion of sorts to another thriller - 'Pscyho'. While I wouldn't go that far, this movie does have its scary moments and charms. To its' credit, I can say that I was never once bored or irritated by its' slow and languid pace. And even though Margot Kidder is not a great actress, the director knows exactly how to use her. Especially disturbing is her epileptic seizure once she commits murder in her bedroom. You will definitely be quite moved by this scene, one way or the other.

"Sisters" is a cinematic achievement that may or may not work for you. If you like most of DePalma's later work, don't even compare this to those films as its so very different. Its also quite dated compared to other films of the same genre from the same era. However, you cannot deny the slick direction, cool dialogue, and smart performances from all the leads (especially the nosy reporter neighbor).

Criterion's DVD is a fine transfer as always, though not as great as some of their other more recent transfers. I had a huge problem with the extras here, though, as most of them seemed an afterthought. For example, the feature on Siamese Twins is not a documentary or anything - just scans of an article from a magazine. I could get this off the Internet if I wanted to. Can't really call this a special feature. The poster section is mildly interesting, but since they're mostly the same poster in different lettering, theres really not much watchability in this regard.

For both the film and DVD, I give a generous three stars. This movie may not be a classic, but its a fine addition to the crime-mystery genre nonetheless. And while this is a let down in terms of extras (by Criterion standards - I had the same issue with their edition of "Le Samourai"), the film is good enough to stand on its' own. Go into this one with minimal expectations, and it makes fine viewing for a lazy Sunday afternoon. And try not to take the other five star reviews on this page too seriously. Its not a five star film by any means.

Hope this helped!』

Sistersis not Brian De Palma's first film, but in many ways it is the first Brian De Palma film, or at least the first to reveal (and revel in) his affinity with Hitchcock. A pre-SupermanMargot Kidder struggles with a French-Canadian accent as an aspiring actress whose one-night stand leads to a homicidal morning-after. Jennifer Salt is a reporter with more moxie than tact or skill who sees the killing from her apartment window across the way. When the police fail to turn up any evidence of the crime, Salt investigates with a private eye (the hilariously relentless Charles Durning), uncovering the secret story of a pair of Siamese twins and a weaselly, stalker doctor. It's a mystery simmering in a stew of voyeurism, guilt, sex, and obsession. De Palma borrows fromRear Window,Psycho, andVertigo(as well as Roman Polanski'sRepulsion), and composer Bernard Herrmann quotes from his own Hitchcock scores (notablyPsycho) for the unsettling music, but the result is more original than you might imagine. Laced with dark humor, inventive technique, and impressive technical precision (the split-screen sequences are breathtakingly effective), De Palma flexes his cinematic muscles with thrilling results, right down to the mordantly wry conclusion. De Palma graduated to big-budget thrillers, but this modest little production remains one of his sharpest, slyest, most engrossing films. Long available only in pallid video transfers, the Home Vision/Criterion letterboxed restoration is bright, clear, and beautiful.--Sean Axmaker

『Excellent DVD. I also bought the second one. I love the would thing. Thanks for offering to sell on Amazon. A++++++++++++++』

(African American Lives)
『I really enjoyed this series, and wish to congratulate PBS for again being in the vanguard by producing it. For those interested in African-American genealogy,I feel this is a must have. And even if you're not a fan of genealogy itself, the celebrities and the presentations of their 'stories' are interesting in and of themselves. Highly recommend!

(Really, really good television)
『A wonderful PBS program hosted by Henry Louis Gates. With the aid of historians and geneologists, Professor Gates researches his own history and that of several prominent African Americans. Each guest speaks of his or her own knowledge of their ancestors and Professor Gates fills in the gaps using census records, estate diaries, archives and DNA. Everyone is in some way surprised by what they learn concerning their lineage. Professor Gates is a gifted communicator, and the interaction between he and his guests is very interesting. I loved the segments with him and his dad and aunt. The parts regarding slavery are very moving--it's sobering to see how human beings were put on the level of oxen or cattle with some records not even listing their names. The guests appeared to be deeply touched when told of their enslaved ancestors. I would highly recommend this well made, fascinating DVD to anyone who is interested in geneology or African American issues, or really anyone.』

(good production)
『Quincy Jones and I are related, so I found this video to be very enlightening. It was a well done piece about African American heritage.』

(Informative and Inspiring)
『This video was very entertaining. It researches the family history of several prominent african amerians. It also provides a general history of blacks in slavery, Jim Crow years, the Civil War, The Middle Passage and the Great Migration. Specific information is given on how DNA can assist in geneology studies. I recommend this video for the family.』
『A compelling combination of storytelling and science AFRICAN-AMERICAN LIVES is an unprecedented four-hour series on PBS that takes Alex Haley's Roots saga to a whole new level. The series will profile some of the most accomplished African-Americans of our time using genealogy and DNA to trace their roots down through American history and back to Africa. Hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. W.E.B. Du Bois professor of the Humanities and chair of African and African-American Studies at Harvard UniversityDr. Gates will provide access to the day-to-day lives of several prominent African-Americans drawing on photographs film clips music and early personal records while a team of researchers genealogists and forensic DNA analysts will conduct investigations into their family histories. By spotlighting African-American role models the series hopes to inspire millions to consider their own heritage and underscore for all Americans the importance of knowing their past in order to unlock the future.System Requirements:Running Time 240 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: DOCUMENTARIES/MISC. (King still helps with what's going on in the world today!)
『I bought this movie for my son. He is absolutely thrilled to see it time and time again. He sits with his children and they discuss parts that they didn't know.
Thanks』

(King)
『Although I inadverently bought Region 1 by mistake and had to play it through my PC the human quality of the film far surpassed the playing quality. I had to sit very quietly after I watched it, to reflect. Although I thought I knew what was happening in the world at that time I realise I didn't have a clue. I obviously knew how the story ended but it ran the whole gamut of emotions from humility, love, hope and tragedy. It is as relevant today as then particularly with the current contest for the presidency of the USA. I would recommend this film to anyone, I wish it was on the National Curriculum. I defy anyone not to have a greater understanding of other people's beliefs, customs, culture, history and how it impacts on mankind after watching this excellent film.』

(Important, Worthwhile, Skimpy)
『If you're looking for a detailed review, look elsewhere. This IS an important, well done three part "docu-drama" that is well acted.

This review is added solely to point out that the "extras" are deplorably skimpy. The mini-"documentaries" aren't worth a lot (though what Ossie Davis has to say is interesting). One of the most significant figures in modern American history and we get this? The film itself deserves 5 stars. One star is deducted because this DVD could and should have been a far more profound teaching tool about King, the Civil Rights Movement and not only where we've come from but where we need to go from here.』

(King)
『Written and directed by Oscar/Emmy winner Abby Mann, "King" is a meticulous recreation of MLK¹s mystical odyssey from spirited young Baptist preacher to anointed spokesman for the vast non-militant wing of the Civil Rights movement. The revelation here is the extent to which King did not choose his thorny path, but was chosen, both by his own people and a higher power. Winfield and Tyson (who¹d starred together in the fabulous "Sounder" six years prior) are both superb as Martin and Coretta, and along with Mann¹s incisive script and a stellar supporting cast, they make "King" a powerful and enlightening experience.』

(King)
『Entertaining and educational. An excellent portrayal of a great american leader and how he changed history. I came away with a better understanding of U.S. history and of non-violent methods for creating political change.』
『Nominated for nine Emmy Awards this "astute and compelling" (Variety) biography based on the remarkable life of Nobel Peace Prize winner Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. takes an intimate look at one of the world s most public heroes during one of the most tumultuous times in American history. Starring Paul Winfield Cicely Tyson and Ossie DavisKing is a riveting tale that appropriately honors a true legend. In 1950s/60s America the civil rights movement found its leader in a Southern Baptist minister. Using lyrical eloquence Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. motivated masses of people black and white to demand equality by way of nonviolent protest. But in spite of his peaceful agenda Dr. King was often the target of terrible violence. He was never swayed from his path however; for by the time he was assassinated in 1968 Dr. King had already defined a dream that would change a nation forever.System Requirements: Running Time 271 MinFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: DRAMA Rating: NR UPC: 027616917201 Manufacturer No: 1007640』
『The late, great Paul Winfield tackles the role of his career inKing, an NBC miniseries originally broadcast over three nights in February 1978. Demonstrating a deeply inspired commitment to his performance as civil rights leader Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Winfield's voice and presence are different from King's, but he flawlessly conveys the physical and psychological essence of the man. In the six-hour telefilm written and directed byJudgment at NurembergOscar®-winner Abby Mann, King is portrayed as a courageously devoted crusader for a just cause, whose commitment to nonviolent protest was a heavy burden he bore with miraculous poise and conviction, often at the expense of his health and well-being. Like Winfield, Cicely Tyson is uncannily convincing in her role as King's noble wife, Coretta.

From King's beginnings as a Baptist minister in the early 1950s to his assassination in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968,Kingrecreates the pivotal events and speeches of King's life in meticulous detail, and many of those who participated in these historical civil-rights milestones appear in the film (including Rosa Parks, Ramsey Clarke, Ossie Davis, and singer Tony Bennett) or served as consultants during production. And while Mann's first and only directorial effort is somewhat dry and artless, his devotion to factual detail is apparent in every frame, makingKingthe definitive dramatization of MLK's extraordinary life and legacy. The DVD bonus features include three substantial mini-documentaries that explore King's struggle, the civil rights movement, and the making of the film, featuring extensive interviews with Ossie Davis (who plays MLK's father in the miniseries) and civil rights leader Bishop Kenneth C. Unger.--Jeff Shannon

(These are good!)
『Soft and sweet with just enough spice. I bought one of the single serving packs and went back and bought an entire box! Non-Celiac husband loves these too.』

(Enjoy Life cookies)
『These cookies are delicious. I originally started buying them for my daughters who both had wheat, egg and peanut allergies. They have both outgrown the wheat allergy, but I still buy them because they enjoy them so much.』

(Delicious)
『These are some of the best cookies out there! I tend to eat an entire box at one sitting.』

(One star because they are soft)
『Oh am I absolutely heartbroken that these are so terrible. I thought from the reviews - so many, that these would be different than all the other natural, allergy free, gluten free, wheat free blah blah blah that I've tried. When there's one or two 5 star/4 star on this kind of product I don't order it because I chalk it up to either people who never enjoyed "fully loaded food" but have always been limited in diet and so in comparison to the other choices, they probably are good - or people like some I know who really don't care about taste, as long as it says the right thing on the package, they think it's great. Me, I've been modifying my diet relatively recently (a few years) due to severe allergies that literally make me feel like I might not recover from the reaction to some foods I have always eaten. Everything I eat since this started is like a cross your fingers and hope it's ok, pray while I suffer through a reaction and be thrilled when it's over, or add to the list of food I can still eat and do the "I can eat it " dance. Certain preservatives are a huge culprit but so are other things so it's always a test. I thought maybe I found one of those nothing bad in it foods that I could tolerate and would taste good. These are terrible -I won't know until tomorrow if I can tolerate them but it doesn't matter, I didn't even want to finish the first cookie. They deserve a star for being soft-that's rare in low allergen foods. But they don't taste anything like a snickerdoodle, they taste like a day old bran muffin with cinnamon on top and you can absolutely tell that they are "nothing in it" food - if not while eating it (which is obvious to me) the after taste is an absolute giveaway, just like all the rest. The only decent thing beyond soft is a little cinnamon taste but that can't overcome the non-sweet sweeteners that curse all allergy free products in my opinion and nothing can help the grainy texture. I'm truly heartbroken. I want a DECENT sweet that is safe! These are so grainy, cakelike but dry - not like a glass of milk could cure it dry - just grainy dry - must be the flaxseed. It's better than some products I've tried but not edible-at least not as long as I can eat other foods. My experience with allergy free food has not been the greatest so I try everything I can and some foods that are not free of everything are tolerated while some foods that are everything free can still give me a reaction, just less likely so I'd rather have low risk experimental food-it's just such a bummer when they aren't any good. I envy all of you who can enjoy them, I wish I could but the taste, the aftertaste and the texture are three strikes and just too much for me.』

(My daughter loves these!)
『My daughter who is allergic to wheat, milk and eggs loves these cookies. When we are eating out and she can not have the food we have, I usually feed her meal before we go the restaurant and then she enjoys 1 or 2 of these cookies while we are having our meal. That way she is having something special and we get to eat out too without feeling bad that she is left out.』
『Enjoy Life was inspired by Bert's mom, Joy, who baked her way back to health after eliminating gluten and other common allergens from her diet. We believe everyone has the right to enjoy a wholesome snack on-the-go, that's why we've made this bar without the wheat, soy or nuts. We're passionate about making great-tasting foods that most everyone can eat freely. This product is formulated to be gluten free and free of the 8 most common allergens. Ingredients have been additionally tested for gluten and peanut protein. This product was manufactured in a dedicated gluten-free and nut-free bakery. This product contains no: wheat, dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, egg, soy, fish, shellfish. They are made without other common triggers of intolerance: corn, potato, sulfites sesame and casein.』

(SO good)
『I loved this candy. I never thought I was a fan of ginger, but this candy is addictive. I was disappointed to see how fast the candy was going, because I didn't want to run out. I will definitely buy again.』

(best ginger candy)
『This is definitely the best ginger candy outside of eating crystallized ginger root. It is not too sweet or too hard and packed with ginger, which is yummy all the time but especially good for nausea. I am buying more for my pregnant friend to get her through her first trimester.』

(WONDERFUL but....)
『(My very first review...)

What I got is different (but better) than the Reed's Ginger Candy picture. This yummy chews comes in a bulk-box of 20 small boxes, and each small box contain 10 candies making a total of 200 candies. Each candy / chew is wrap in an **edible** rice paper and then in a wax paper. I'm very impress with the whole packaging, and the edible rice paper is a nice surprise. I hate those inner-wrapper that comes with most candies making eating-candy a messy experience. The candies are very addictive. The only small complain I have is that the ginger-taste is too mild for me. If you are getting this for morning / motion sickness or migraine, this may not be a good choice. I would recommend crystallized ginger. Hopefully, the Reed's crystallized ginger candies are not this mild. My favor is W&M Ginger Glace but can't find it online.』

(A chewy sweet treat)
『I love chewy goodies. There's something more satisfying about a treat that lingers in your mouth for a few minutes while you chew it.

Reed's Ginger Candy Chews are great because they have the zing of real ginger and the wonderful chewy consistency that reminds me of a good caramel. At 25 calories per piece, they are a great low-calorie dessert that helps to settle the tummy and clean the palate.

I love these candies!』

(Awesome candy)
『Based on the reviews I tried these, and I LOVE them. I've tried the other ginger chews made by the ginger people, but these are far superior. I've had the ginger people chews for months and haven't come close to finishing the package. I've had the Reed's ginger candy for a couple of days and I've already finished my first pack. If you like ginger then you will really like these. I know it may be a splurge, but it's worth it. You get 20 packs with each package containing 10 individually wrapped candies. My only problem is going to be in pacing my consumption of this yummy treat.』

(LOVE these little patties)
『Although these are not an exact duplicate of the original York patties, they are really tasty, and I like this new texture even more than the other kind. While the ones containing sugar have a more solid filling texture, these ones are a little mushier inside, and it's a nice change. That, and the fact that there's no sugar, but also no artificial sweeteners like Splenda (sucralose) or Nutra Sweet (aspartame) is the only reason I even tried these. I highly recommend!』

(Just like the original)
『These sugar free products are fantastic for people watching weight/carbs/sugar. They taste just the same as the original...』

(Be Aware of Certain Sugar Substitutes Used in Products)
『Maltitol, Lactitol, Isomalt and Sorbitol -- the sugar substitutes used in this product can be pure poison to some individuals. I am one of those people. Granted, the makers of this product warn it can have a laxative effect (that's from the above-mentioned sugar substitutes, not the product itself), but some of us go way beyond experiencing a laxative effect to debilitating diarrhea even with moderate consumption of cookies or candies made with these sugar substitutes.』

Low glycemic foods are slowly digested and produce a relatively small rise in blood glucose levels after eating. (Picture on tub misleading)
『We got this for a gift from my parents, who bought it at ToysRUs for much cheaper than Amazon's price. My 3 year old loves it. The dinosaurs are pretty big and the container is great for storage, however I have one beef with it. I noticed the picture on the tub was inaccurate. There are some differences in the dinosaurs uncluded. The thing that bugged me, was the mat. The mat that came with the set is not the one shown on the tub, which is much more detailed and realistic looking. The one we received was very simplistic and not at all like the one advertised on the container or here on Amazon. It also doesn't lay out flat at all. Now none of this is noticed by my son. He could care less. Still, I had to deduct a star because of the misleading picture.』

(Crazy for Dinosaurs)
『My three-year-old grandson plays with these endlessly. The tub is great for storage and he runs for it at every visit.』

(Fantastic gift)
『I bought these for my grandson who loved dinosaurs at the time. He has outgrown them but still has them. It was a great gift and well worth the money.』

(Great toy, but available elsewhere for A LOT less!!!)
『I got this for my 3 year old son, who is really into dinosaurs right now. He loves the toy and it is great -- he plays with it in the sandbox as well as on the floor indoors. It keeps him busy for a good amount of time. However, I was shocked to find the same toy at Toys R Us for less than HALF of what I paid on amazon. I was under the impression that this item was difficult to find, but I saw 2 shelves full of them in May 2009. So save your money and buy elsewhere.』

(Great Toy but get it WAAAAY cheaper elsewhere)
『I love Amazon for its selection of books, which are fairly priced. However, the toys I've found here since Christmas are so incredibly overpriced...even on Black Friday and the online Monday-after "sale" -- I waited to see if I could get a better price and found instead that almost every item was over-priced. With this toy, again I checked quickly with Toys R Us and it is $19.99 for the exact set. It's $65 here! Why the big mark-up? What a great toy...but do yourself a favor and buy it elsewhere.』

(Perfect under $10 gift!)
『As a daycare provider/teacher I love buying educational gifts that kids love and can enjoy over and over! This is it. Perfect for 18 month +.』

(My nephew loved it!)
『My nephew received this puzzle for his first birthday and loved it. Kept him entertained for hours! He still enjoys the challenge of fitting the pieces.』

(Great for a kid who really loves dinos!)
『My son has loved playing with this puzzle. He knows the names of each of the dinosaurs and announces each one as he takes the pieces out and then puts them back in. It's easy enough for a young child to do, but still offers some educational value if your kid is really into dinos.』

(Perfect for little hands)
『I bought this for my son for his 2nd birthday. He loves dinosaurs so I figured this would be a great gift. He absolutely loves this puzzle! It is really chunky and easy to use. He loves to make the dinosaurs hop along the table and put them in their spots on the table. We also can practice colors because it is so bright and fun! I absolutely reccommend this puzzle to anyone looking to buy a fun and cute puzzle for their kids!』

(Meh...)
『This product is ok as long as your kid is extremely gentle with toys. My son isn't, and the puzzle reflects that - lots of the edges/paint have chipped off. Good for calm children!』
『This innovative puzzle features thick, chunky pieces that fit neatly into the puzzle board, and can also stand up to be used for pretend play. Remove each dinosaur piece to reveal a full-color picture underneath. Includes 7 dinosaur pieces. Measures 12" x 11" x 1".』

(An engrossing read that will revolutionize the way you think of Chinese food)
『I bought this book having already used Ms. Dunlop's phenomenal cookbooks for about a year--to my mind, they are the holy grail of Chinese cookbooks in the English language--so when I found out that she had written her memoirs I was already on-board. That said, Shark's Fin and Sichuan Pepper went above and beyond my expectations when I read it. Dunlop writes beautifully--engagingly, even engrossingly, and I found myself staying up late just to read more. Moreover, what she has to say is fascinating. She really made clear the philosophy behind a lot of Chinese cooking, and though at times she described menu items that I could not imagine putting in my mouth, I found myself trying the most amazing and unexpected things at Chinese restaurants as a result of her narrative. Something else I appreciated about this book was that it was not unrelentingly positive, and that it did not wax poetic constantly. Dunlop is straightforward and honest, and she challenges the reader to take a fresh look at eating in China--in terms of taste and texture, in terms of cultural setting, in terms of economics and environmental impact. This is a fascinating book, and it will completely change the way you think of Chinese food.』

(Engaging, well-considered, and a delight to read)
『I had such a fun time reading Fuchsia Dunlop's memoir of her culinary adventures in China, ranging from her ex-pat years as a student in Sichuan to eating lamb on the outermost western fringes. What makes Shark's Fin and Shichuan Pepper shine is Dunlop's solid focus on the food and culture of China. I was worried that this would be another food book where a cute travel story would take the center. Not to worry. What Dunlop offers in lieu is a glimpse of the far-ranging variety of Chinese cuisine. Finally, I understand why I can buy lamb kebabs from a hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant in Flushing, NY, or why there's a certain restaurant on Clement in San Francisco that offers an oyster pancake I haven't seen in other Chinese restaurants.

Near the end of the book, there's a melancholic note as Dunlop writes of China's pollution problem and increasingly homogeneous urban planning as well as the near decimation of its wildlife. Yet, it reflects a considered approach on Dunlop's part in understanding food as part of a larger culture. Such an approach can be seen from the very beginning when she writes about variations in Sichuan food based on the climate (the overwhelming fiery food of sweltering Chongqing to the mellower spicy sweetness of relaxed Chengdu).

Dunlop's writing skills are a plus. Her sentences are lively while being well-structured. Dunlop's memoir is a culmination of over 15 years eating and writing about Chinese food. I enjoyed the book thoroughly and am grateful that Dunlop has shared her expertise in such an accessible book.』

(Emperor or peasant, we all have to eat - a manual for Chinese food lovers)
『Once I got my western stomach and mind over the graphic descriptions of offal and the dispatching of the animals that used to contain them, I couldn't put this book down! Having travelled a little in China myself, it has deepened my insights into the cultural and culinary history of the Middle Kingdom. If you want a book that journeys into the heart (and stomach) of Chinese food culture, this is the book for you!』

(Dissapointed)
『I bought both of Dunlop's cookbooks including Land of Plenty, and I was a little disappointed in both of them. The recipes are different from the traditional Chinese recipes, however, I was expecting them to be so. The dishes seemed to be very light on flavor. I found Sechuan Pepper to be an interesting and good spice, which she uses in many of the dishes. Some of the dishes seemed incomplete for details in cooking instructions. I love cooking Chinese food, but this book left me a little disappointed.』

(A must-have for your cooking library)
『Simply put, Ms. Dunlop writes a captivating memoir about her time in China learning to cook. But it's far more than a simple memoir or a simple food book. Her dexterity with translating the essence of food from China into terms and concepts Westerners can understand is breath-taking. I've used many of her recipes with great success. Simply put this book plus her other two cookbooks deserve a place in every kitchen and food library. If you think you understand Chinese food as it's presented in the West, you will learn so much from these books about just how amazing Chinese food can be.』
“Destined, I think, to become a classic of travel writing.”—Paul Levy,The ObserverAfter fifteen years spent exploring China and its food, Fuchsia Dunlop finds herself in an English kitchen, deciding whether to eat a caterpillar she has accidentally cooked in some home-grown vegetables. How can something she has eaten readily in China seem grotesque in England? The question lingers over this“autobiographical food-and-travel classic” (Publishers Weekly).

(Sweet Escape)
『As the second book in the Bakery Sister series, I started out not being one of Nicole's biggest fans (based on book one). In book one, Sweet Talk, Nicole comes across as cold, abrasive, and unforgiving. Yet, in this book, you see the very sensitive core of who she is trying to protect. After feeling abandoned by both parents, a twin who went off to travel the world as a famous pianist, and a husband that she caught in bed with the younger sister she had been forced to raise, you start to see why Nicole acts the way she does. Into this mix, walks Hawkins, a former NFL player who gave up his career to raise his daughter after his wife died of cancer. He's big, brawny, and a dedicated father. What's not to love?

While Nicole has a tough exterior, she comes off to Hawk as a hard sell. Used to getting his way, Hawk finds that he has to win over Nicole and get to know her. Along the way, they hurt each other horribly (adding to the tension of the novel), poking at old injuries, and forcing one another to wake up to the stupid things they've been blind to in their lives.

I really liked this Mallery novel. I realize that I usually only write reviews when I really like something, and I suppose that in this case, this fits the bill. I needed a good escape read, to really feel a part of a story, and once again Mallery delivered. I have read many of her other books, and loved several others, but this story was really engaging and made me care a great deal about all characters involved. What more could you want out of a good romance?』

(Great Book!)
『I'm reading this book for the third time! This is, by far, Mallery's best book. I don't know if I just like sexy athletes or both Hawk's and Nicole's humor! He does some dumb things but they finally realize they are actually in love! Mallery writes the best (next to Rachel Gibson) for sexy, funny and touching books. This one makes you laugh, cry, and get mad! Keep 'em coming, Susan!』

(I like this series.....)
『I enjoyed reading about the three sisters and their bakery. They were each so different, so unique, but still there was love between them.』

(The Baker and Football Star)
『I'd really rate this a 4.5, but I couldn't give it a full 5 stars. This was my favorite book out of this series.

Nicole in the first book was really evil and bitter, although still funny and sarcastic at the same time. In this book, she's not so mean. She's reluctant to enter a relationship after catching her loser husband in bed with her younger sister, but when she meets retired NFL pro Hawk she doesn't stand a chance. They have a fun chemistry throughout the book. There's humor, drama, and love.

If you're wanting to get an update on Claire and Wyatt in this book, you'll be sadly searching for nothing much than tiny bits of barely anything. But since the 3rd book about Jesse takes place 5 years later you get a little update on all the sisters then.

Mallery must have this think with always needing a perfect character. In the first book Claire was too close to perfect for being human. And in this book the high school star quarterback, Raoul, whom Nicole takes in her home to take care of, comes across as a little too perfect. I really liked his character but he just seemed a little too mature for an 18 year old.
And the other slightly annoying part was that all the Keyes sister became pregnant at the same time out of wedlock ( which then push the realization of love faster for the guy they love who doesn't want kids). That tactic was a little over used.

But all in all, the book was funny and cute, and I really liked Nicole and Hawk together. It was fun to watch their relationship from the very first chapter and on.』

(Nicole Has Her Day)
『Okay, I have to say, Hawk is hot, and drawn very well in this book. You like him, probably fall in love with him, and even understand him.

Nicole is still Nicole, hard on the outside, still a little mixed up and needing love on the inside. She is angry with her sister Jesse, who she believes has done the unforgiveable in regard to Nicole's ex-husband.

Raoul, the high school quarterback who is homeless and tries to steal five dozen doughnuts for his team, appears to be the most mature of the whole cast of characters, and very loveable.

Brittany is a product of her environment, entitled and spoiled and selfish, but with some redeeming qualities.

This book could have gone in several different directions, but I like the way it went, with the exception of the baby. Also, for a woman who complained so much about being responsible for everything since she was a child, it was a little weird that Nicole ended up with Rauol and Sheila and more responsibility. Perhaps she has begun to realize the person she can be when she has the ability to make choices of her own?

The sizzling romance between Hawk and Nicole was cute. He's a tough guy, knows his own worth and his own attraction, and it never enters his head that he can't get around a woman like Nicole. She presents a challenge, one he feels he is up to handling, and he does. They fall in love, but to prove that he understands who Nicole is, Hawk gives himself several tasks which he must complete in order to overcome the gaff he made when he proposed publicly.』

『"Responsibility" should be Nicole Keyes's middle name. After all, not many people would sacrifice their lives to run the family bakery and raise a younger sibling. But with Nicole's twin sister now blissfully married and her younger sis turning out more femme fatale than girl-next-door, super reliable Nicole is getting sick of putting everyone else's needs first!

Enter Hawk. The deliciously sexy former NFL player offers Nicole a taste of the freedom she craves. Hawk may know the way, blindfolded, to her sweet spot, but Nicole's not about to let him get close enough to break her heart. (Fantastic book, great delivreing)
『This book is essential for every leader with ambitions!

Great delivering; and that was to Norway!』

(Let Wooden be your guide.)
『I am a teacher in middle school. I am also a former active duty soldier and a current reservist. I find Wooden's ideas practical and inspirational. Read it. Absorb it. Apply it. There are lessons for life, learning and basketball. His lessons would be equally effective i the classroom, boardroom, or the battlefield. Don't pass it by.』

(Principles in Business and Life)
『John Wooden exemplifies selflessness. His model for winning and success is infallible. What I got out of this book was the principle of listening to yourself and not trying to live up to other people's expectations. You do what feels right for you. The other valuable lesson I got out of this book was selflessness. In this world, you don't get to where you want to go by being selfish. What I was so impressed by so much was his definition of "winning". If you give it your best effort in a competition, than you have won, regardless of the score. This man is truly a legend.』

(How To Succeed In 17 Steps- The secret is surprisingly simple)
『If you are looking for a good introduction to keys of legendary UCLA coach John Wooden's success, look no further. Much has been written about Wooden over the years. The Essential Wooden breaks it down in a simple format.

The book is a quick read and can be finished in an evening.

To quote Wooden, "Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming."

You can summarize it this way, the key to success is working hard on your own skills and abilities, and working toward constant improvement. That is in many ways the same secret to the success of companies like Toyota and Honda, continuous improvement and a focus on the team.

What's great about this book is that Wooden has had time to reflect on his achievements and successes. Wooden strikes me as a humble and honest man. When he says his focus was on each member of the team pushing themselves to the limit, exceeding their own expectations and focusing on being the best they can be, not winning, I believe him.

Wooden briefly discusses his Pyramid of Success, and it's 17 steps. These are mutually supporting building blocks of a successful mindset and they are not complicated. Industriousness, self-control, poise, etc.

Wooden's genius is building it into a system, that proved itself many times over.

Success takes work, a fact that is lost on many today.

My Highest Recommendation, and a book I look forward to reading again.』

(Good, sensible advice)
『This arrived in good shape and ahead of schedule - just like you want life to be.』

(excellent boot for those needing strong arch support)
『I have difficult feet and need strong arch support and have trouble finding boots to accomodate that. These are great....cool looking with arch support. I love them! The picture doesn't do justice to the fact that you can unfold the top and wear them much higher than you see.』
『This iconic winter boot is full of outdoor-adventure spirit, combined with an edgy urban look that means they look as good on a snowy mountain as they do on a bustling city street.
