I have seen Neil Diamond in concert many times and no one puts on a show like him. He is entertaining and his music is still excellent. From what I have seen and know about Neil Diamond, he is such a professional-gives over 100% in whatever he does-in the studio and in concert. This DVD is a prime example of this. Watching this is like having the best seat in the house-on stage with the band. The sound AND video is incredible. Turn your lights off and you will feel like you are live at the concert. I will admit my surround sound system made it even better. 2 1/2 hours of pure Neil-you can't go wrong.
The extra CD is just a bonus of Neil's personal favorites-nice to have but if you are a fan, you already have every song he has done on previous albums. The concert on DVD alone is worth the price. I even bought a second set for a Christmas gift.

It includes a couple of polished, slick tracks from studio albums (ONE DAY AT A TIME, BLESSED ARE...), but is otherwise made up of previously unreleased live recordings from Baez concerts spanning the decades. The quality of the sound varies (Barbara Allen the poorest, the studio stuff the clearest), but Joan's fans (this fan, anyway) will consider this recording a welcome, sweet gift from a gifted artist. Anyone who owns or has enjoyed the boxed set, RARE, LIVE&CLASSIC, will like this collection; its almost an addendum to that anthology (most of the repeated songs are different performances).
In her earliest period, when her voice was at its purest, Baez was excruciatingly serious, but at the same time, there was a sweetness that balanced the cold, detached quality of songs that were often hundreds of years old. She connected with these old melodies in a special way that turned them from museum artifacts into compelling stories, deeply felt and communicated. Back then, I sometimes got the feeling Joan was singing only to me -- they seemed that intimate. Although I've moved on to an extremely broad range of music, and collected every kind of music imaginable, I credit Joan Baez for sparking my love of music at the age of seven (1960), and so, along with just a handful of others whose careers have been almost as long (Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Ian Tyson), I've kept up with her career. There are many touchstones here, some welcome (Joan's own "Song For David," Tom Waits' "Day After Tomorrow" from her latest release, here represented in a live version), some not so (the long, musically boring "With God On Our Side," the nasal, inexplicable hit, "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"), but as a whole, reviewing Joan's 50-year long career on this brief CD was lovely. I even enjoyed, warts and all, the raucous, live duet with Bob Dylan, "I Pity The Poor Immigrant." The shining highlight of this collection is a 2009 live recording of the self-penned, "Love Song To A Stranger," accompanied by guitar and piano. Even with a voice revealing some of the inevitable wear and tear of time, this performance rivals the studio version, recorded over thirty years earlier!
I recommend this CD in tandem with the DVD, which has around 90 minutes worth of bonus material, not seen on the PBS airing of HOW SWEET THE SOUND. Get the Deluxe DVD Edition (it's only a couple of bucks more), and you'll have both the film and the CD soundtrack.』

The story revolves around Sarah Millick (Jeanette), a young English woman who on the eve of her arranged wedding, abandons her wealth&social position to elope with Karl Linden (Nelson), her Viennese music instructor and a struggling composer.
Living on love alone proves a challenge to the couple and provides both the humor and the tragedy of the story. Bitter Sweet provides several fine songs for both singers and they make the most of them. However, the script is weak and the unsatisfactory ending, which includes the shortest duel in history, spoils the enjoyment of the rest of the movie and leaves the viewer with a feeling of emptiness.
If you are a fan of Nelson and Jeanette, don't pass on this one, but you'll find the story isn't up to their talents.

Hey, Nelson and Jeanette only made 8 films together ...so Bittersweet for all fans is also a must see and a keeper for the collection.』
(A TEPID, MEDIOCRE FILM...) 『This movie, while cinematically colorful, is a mediocre offering by the usually radiant singing duo, Nelson Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. Here, Ms. MacDonald plays the role of Sarah, a Victorian era, young Englishwoman who is about to enter into an arranged marriage with Harry, a stuffy Englishman. Sarah also has a voice teacher named Karl (Nelson Eddy) with whom she makes beautiful music and falls in love. On practically the eve of her wedding, she and Karl declare themselves to each other and run away together to his native Vienna after getting hitched.
There, she lives the impoverished life of a young wife happily married to a struggling composer, as Karl finishes writing his cherished operetta. While in Vienna, Sari, as Sarah is now called, makes the acquaintance of two individuals who are to have a great impact on her life, a rakish Baron and member of the Austrian Emperor's dashing Hussars (George Sanders) and a simpatico English Lord (Ian Hunter). Unfortunately, the Baron ultimately tries to seduce the unwilling Sari with catastrophic results.
This film was understandably a flop, as it pales alongside this singing duo's other cinematic pairings. Jeanette MacDonald is radiant as always, but as she was nearly forty years old at the time, it is difficult to believe her in the role of a young woman in her late teens. Nelson Eddy played the role of Karl as it he were in a state of near catatonic shock. It is hard to believe how he could sweep any woman off her feet, much less anyone as vivacious as Sarah. In fact, the acting in his death scene was little different from that when playing the living Karl in love with the woman his dreams.
George Sanders, however, is excellent as the scheming, villainous Baron, and Ian Hunter is charming in the role of the English Lord. Still, these two performances alone could not save a film that was doomed from the beginning by a weak screenplay, third rate music, and uneven performances. In fact, one of the scenes was downright embarrassing, with Jeanette MacDonald singing a dreadful song with a bizarre French accent. Moreover, the death scene was over in the blink of an eye, as if Nelson Eddy could not disappear from this film quickly enough. It was quite bizarre and totally lacking tension or cinematic fire. It was totally anti-climactic.
This film was apparently based upon a Noel Coward operetta. Until I saw this film, I had no idea Noel Coward was a composer. Now I know why I had never heard of his music, if this is an example of it. Still, those who are fans of Jeanette MacDonald and Nelson Eddy will find some redeeming value in this sentimental mish-mosh. If, however, you are not a fan of theirs, deduct one star from my rating.』
(The Title Says It All:"Bitter Sweet") 『"Bittersweet"is NOT a favourite of mine... hard to say whether it or"I Married an Angel"is my least favourite J/N flick. Still, due to Nelson's presence, it is somewhat bearable. I really adore both Nelson and Jeanette, don't get me wrong. What I really didn't like was the fact that the entire thing seemed tossed together without much thought or plan for a plot. Like what point did that Tokay scene make?? I mean, it was adorable to see him bouncing Jeanette on that table, but usually the songs and scenes in their films serve some purpose. The storyline in general is just rather obscure.
Jeanette's gowns I found a bit much - it seems Adrian must have been in a wild mood a couple times... some were okay: I really liked the blue one she wore at the beginning and the satin ones she wore at Schlick's. The apricot one at the last café scene was the best! The purple one in the Tokay scene drew all attention away from anything else in the scene and drives my eyes buggy with those perfectly matched, zig-zagging stripes. Good for a laugh only.
I loved Hawwy and Jane. Even though they were both despicable.
I thought the scene where Jeanette breaks down trying to sing that song for Herr Wyler was very touching.
And I love the part where Nelson's two friends start pulling out the pawn tickets. The look on his face when they said,"That's for the bed,"was hilarious. And Jeanette,"Oh, Carl, it's just the bed!"Men and their strange values.
And of course the scene when he carried her upstairs was darling. I laughed so hard the first time I saw him toss her over his shoulder and cart her the rest of the way up.
I too hate that Nelson has to die... they adored each other so much... and it WAS too abrupt. Somehow though I start laughing, because I think of one website where a lady put a picture of Nelson in Jeanette's arms in the death scene, with the caption,"Carl! How many times have I told you to stay away from sharp objects??!?"(Of course, she meant it as a joke.) Honestly though I hate that he dies. It's despicable. George Sanders is despicable. Despicable is my current buzzword.
This movie overall is NOT despicable, simply not Jeanette and Nelson's best example of collaboration. If you are new to Nelson and Jeanette, I would recommend"New Moon"or"Maytime"as good films to start with. Save this one for after you become a fan, so you can watch it with a little more sympathy and leniency than otherwise you would.』
(A grocery list would sound wonderful !) 『This pair could sing a duet grocery list and I would love it ! I was born in their heyday (30's). Jeanette MacDonald more than any other musican influenced me to pursue a singing career.
Sure, the acting might be uneven, costumes not proper (but this is NOT uncommon for Hollywood) Who cares? These two singers are front and center. I guess I'm sentimental but I love all their movies even with other singers like the wonderful Allan Jones.
Seeing Jeanette and Mr. Eddy in live concert in Wichita Ks was a highlite after seeing them as a child in so many movies.
Don't be too hard on these movies. Listen to the wonderful voices and music. Forget the rest. Think how fortunate we are to have them on film!』

It was 1975 and I was 11 years old watching late night TV when a movie, I have never heard of, came on and I was immediately drawn in. Truly captivated by Anthony Newley and Sandy Dennis. I was exposed to my very first tear-jerker and to say I was touched would be a complete understatement. For years, every week I would scan through my TV Guide to find it but to no avail. This was a day when all Movies did not go to VHS after it's release. In my 20's I actually went to see Anthony Newley live in "Stop The World I Want To Get Off" (which he wrote and starred in) at a local theatre. My quest was to meet him and ask when I will see "Sweet November" again. After the show I begged to go backstage to meet him and my wishes were granted. There he was, a little man in a grey sweat suit still drying his hair with a towel. He was thrilled that I asked and responded that he had just had lunch with the writer of the movie the other day and "Sweet November's" future came up. No plans were set in stone at that time, he said. Fast forward, Anthony passed on and low and behold the rebirth of Sweet November came to life with Keanu Reeves. Unfortunately to my dismay it couldn't hold a candle to the original which will always have a special place in my heart. I am now 43 and oddly my daughter (my Angel) was born in November. Guess what I call her? Buy this movie! Rich』
(Feels like the first time) 『I just thought of this and bought it instantly. If you want to draw comparisons, do so with Backstreet and Madam X but NOT the Keanu Reeves version. Much as I adore Keanu, his cannot compare to the Anthony Newley/Sandy Dennis combination that was the first Sweet November. I saw this movie when it opened in NYC (in those days to see first run movies you had to go uptown to the big theatres - local theatres would get them about a month or two later). I was 17 and remembered the last time I felt my heart break for a movie was West Side Story. I must thank Barry Eysman who wrote his review in 2002. It said beautifully everything I would like to say. My eyes filled up when I read it. I think the thing that made the original characters so appealing was they were not drop-dead gorgeous with leading man/lady good looks. They were believable. I felt as if I knew these people or at least could know them and relate to them. Since I saw this movie, every time I smell a new perfume on someone that appeals to me, I say "you smell like the main floor of Bloomingdale's".』
(A Vivid Memory) 『My college sweetheart, with whom I have reunited after 35 years, and I saw this unforgetable movie as a Sneak Preview in 1968. It was the most beautiful, but heart-wrenching movie I ever saw. The two of us remember crying in the car for a couple of hours after leaving the theatre. Anthony Newley and Sandy Dennis worked beautifully together. Theodore Bikel is so comforting, strong and protective. It is a tender, sad and beguiling story by Herman Raucher, every bit the equal of his"Summer of '42"and that is complimenting it indeed. A rare and heady blend of deepest emotion, of what love can do to persons, and what the terrible thrusting of the end of the world causes--the bittersweet romance, the gone away, but not in the heart ever leaving, the one special romance that aches the soul is always the finest, the most cherished.
Unabashedly bigger than life, very much an old fashioned"romantic film,"filled with happiness and passion, and captivating. I've loved Anthony Newley for most of my life. Sandy Dennis is one of my favorite actresses. It needed no remake. Keneau Reeves in the Newley role? Oh, please, no. There is just this one and only classic November. It is impossible not to weep when Charlie so desperately wants Sweet November to stay, to capture the fleeting time, and to make a calander with only that month forever on it, caught in amber.
Which is what this film has done. How can anyone not fall in love with a story in which Charlie names the sweater Sarah makes for him, because he loves it,"Rex"? New York has never been more captivating. Michel LeGrand's music is sublime. Fall and Thanksgiving and Sarah and Charlie and a most creatively sided box, and snow falling on the skylight. What more could a person wish for? The final magnificent song by Newley and Leslie Bricusse, sung in that electrifying Newley voice that will never be equaled, as the snow comes falling down around him on a park bench, his final goodbye, encompassing all the knowledge Sarah has given to him, for all hellos are goodbyes in disguise, breaks my heart every time I hear it. There can be no better, wiser"sentimental education."

But November can't stay; it's why autumn is so magical. Now that both actors are so sadly gone, we have this gift of love and innocence to remember them by; a study of the kind of affection that counts, that gets into the bones, and joyous memories edged with the patina of sadness. New York in autumn has always seemed the best place in the world to me. This film has proven me right.

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Finian's Rainbow) 『In my opinion, this is not a well-crafted story or a movie worth watching, unless you really like a certain actor or actress or really want to see Fred Astaire dance in his last role. I thought it would be interesting because Tommy Steele was so great in Disney's musical The Happiest Millionaire and because Keenan Wynn can be very funny, but in this movie, Tommy Steele acts more like he is on a drug high, and the songs in this had less to do with the plot than in most musicals. For example, there's a lot of good dancing and there are some good tunes, but when everyone's spending the day running through the fields, and it has so little to do with the plot, you have to wonder what the point or current plot is. The point at that particular part seems to be that everyone's happier in communal living, and the rest of the movie clarifies that communal living is specifically Marxist. The messages of the movie are Marxist, and the writers of the musical also managed to put in a bit about witches overcoming discrimination, a big deal to the feminists of the 60s. The Marxist message is more blatant than some of the reviewers here suggested, portraying Fred Astaire's character as greedy for wanting to keep his money and calling the rightful owner, the leprechaun (Tommy Steele), a member of a "subversive underground group" for wanting it. The writers of the musical were Marxists or socialists who were portraying capitalists as selfish, accusatory hatemongers. One last thing: I felt that the movie's subplots weren't very well connected to each other until the end of the movie, and that the cuts in the movie were done in a very psychedelic, disjointed fashion, reflecting the hippie era that director Coppola apparently embraced. All of these things were negative aspects to me.』

The show was a hit on Broadway in the late 40s, and Francis Ford Coppola brought it to the screen in this 1968 version. The cast includes performances by Petula Clark, Tommy Steele (a HUGE name in British pop-rock in the early 60s), Keenan Wynn and Don Francks. Hidden beneath the surface of this gem of a musical is a social commentary that was farily blatant for the times.』

Charlie Brown is upset by the site of Christmas pre-sales at the local department store although Linus is telling everyone about the Easter Beagle who rises up on Easter morning to give eggs to all the children - and no one believes him! Sally wants a new pair of shoes while Peppermint Patty is trying to teach Marcy how to color eggs and Snoopy keeps wanting to do a good deed for his pal Woodstock.
Also included is the feature is "It's Arbor Day, Charlie Brown." Charlie Brown has a surprise - his baseball team decides to spruce up the baseball field will all kinds of new plants with surprising with crazy situations. For me not that funny - except again for the Snoopy scenes. He steals the show.
They are definately colorful and somewhat simple - the story should keep the kids hopping - but the adults may be a little board for both features - except of course - you guyessed it - when Snoopy is on!

Most people tend to regard Warner Brothers as the house of choice when it came to noir, but RKO cranked out some real doozies, too.
Dick Powell forever shed his wholesome, goody-goody image when he played hard-boiled Detective Philip Marlowe. Hired to track down the ex-wife of nutty stand-over man Moose Malloy (Mike Mazurki), Marlowe's trail later leads him into an altogether more puzzling case involving a priceless jade necklace, the sultry second wife of a millionaire (Claire Trevor) and her lovely stepdaughter (Anne Shirley).
MURDER, MY SWEET is a complete ride from beginning to end. Although the plot is downright convuluted and confusing, the film is compelling largely because of Powell's performance and the snappy screenplay of John Paxton (based on the original novel by Raymond Chandler).
Audiences would have forever pegged Dick Powell for his tap-happy roles in Busby Berkeley musicals like "42nd Street" had the character of Marlowe not come along and allowed a new side of his incredible acting range to shine through. He's remarkable in this movie. Likewise this film also established radiant ingenue Anne Shirley (from "Anne of Green Gables" and "Stella Dallas") in a sophisticated new light, although her career sadly ended with this film. Claire Trevor, that perennial film noir femme fatale, doesn't disappoint.

(Noir with an endearing sense of nerdiness.) 『As far as film noir goes, this is it. The contradiction of Raymond Chandler's gritty gumshoe Philip Marlowe comes across at the hands of Dick Powell far more easily than it did with either Bogart or Mitchum (who was in a remake of this film, years later). Powell's performance of the detective is lighter than others, and though he certainly doesn't evoke the feelings of menace that other actors do, I can't imagine anyone but him playing hopscotch with the tiles of a stately home.
Mike Mazurki's turn as Moose Malloy is fabulous - a real-life ex-wrestler turned meathead-for-hire-under-false-pretences. If you want a great strangulation, he's the man.
So why only three stars? As a film this is a beautiful work - the opening shots of a blindfolded Marlowe, appearing as if in front of a firing squad, are gorgeous. There's a lot of expertly-crafted noir stereotypical setups here. But the story seems particularly convoluted, and to not hang together too well. It's forgiveable in a book where your mind fills in the blanks, but on the screen it seems that something is lacking. It definitely helps if you've read Chandler's original before tackling this one.
One thing that could be a spoiler but isn't but sort of is: watch out for the drug scene. It's one of the most breathtakingly good:bad pieces of acting and camerawork I've seen. It's so close to genius and failure at once that its inclusion makes viewing of this film necessary.』
(Confusing,But Love Those Wiscracks!) 『This is considered one of the classic film noirs ever made and some think THE film noir. In recognizing that before I had seen it, perhaps I was disappointed because I expected more. Yet, I still own this DVD and enjoy watching it about every 4-5 years. Why? Probably the cinematography and "Phillip Marlowe's" dialog.
What I found was a very confusing film, at least in the last third of the movie as everything started to be explained. It almost got ridiculous in the last 10 minutes when Dick Powell ("Marlowe") explained the whole story. He talked too fast and it was next to impossible to follow. I guess I will have to view this more often to understand it better, or find someone who can explain it for my feeble brain.
The best part of the film was the cinematography, which really comes to life on the DVD. Someone did a very nice job restoring this print for this disc. That, and the general dialog by Powell, were fascinating. You could make a short book with all the wise-guy remarks made by "Marlowe" in this film - a lot of great stuff.
I just wish they had made a simpler story and made it easier for the viewer to digest all the facts at the end. 』

John Payton's script adaptation from Raymond Chandler's novel "Farewell, My Lovely" moves at a spellbinding pace as we see the world of detective Philip Marlowe, played by Dick Powell in a dramatic debut after a career as a song and dance man, unfold in Los Angeles. When he meets up with ex-con Moose Malloy, played by veteran pro wrestler and character actor Mike Mazurki, he becomes a marked man.
Powell's nemises are beautiful bad girl Claire Trevor and gang head Otto Kruger while Anne Shirley, as Trevor's stepdaughter, helps the detective find romance while providing him with the lowdown on the wayward blonde, who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.』
('MY ATTITUDE DOESN'T SEEM TO IMPROVE') 『
When Dick Powell made this movie his acting career astonishingly was at a very low ebb, but this movie helped revitalize the old song and dance man into a transformed 'noir' actor. He had a lot of help in this movie not only from an excellent script but also from some excellent actors. One of my favorites has always been Claire Trevor, and if she had not been identified, don't know that I would have ever recognized her as this dazzling, coniving blonde of the jade necklace.
Powell is given some very good, wise cracking lines, but underneath he is a teddy bear and that comes through at times, especially with Anne Shirley. One client says he doesn't care for Marlowe's (Powell's role) attitude, with Marlowe replying that he has had complaints about that before, but the attitude doesn't seem to improve. Along the way, and it is a confused way for much of the movie, Marlowe accuses or suspects nearly everyone in the cast, with the police always eyeing Marlowe as a possible suspect. Ring around the rosey, only death intervenes from time-to-time in this game. Everyone seems to have something to hide or some angle they are playing with Marlowe picking up easy money. As he says, some people are paying him to stay with the investigation, while others are paying him to drop the investigation. As many times as he is sapped and knocked out, one would think he would welcome grabbing the money and letting the thing solve itself. But as he says, ethics are involved, his mainly since he was originally hired to body guard a client, with that client turning up dead on Marlowe's watch. It's just another aspect of being a teddy bear underneath it all.
Rich good looking women, sleezy con men and thugs, a stolen jade necklace worth a cool hundred thousand never stolen, and plenty of guns leads to a full fledged Raymond Chandler group of writings brought to the Hollywood screen by RKO. When looking at 'noir' films it just doesn't get much better than this film.
If you haven't seen it you have missed a very good effort in both acting and writing.

No orange, which is my favorite in Tootsie pops... I do like them, but unless you get them on a "special" they're rather expensive.......Christmas is coming, and I'll be giving them away in small bags to everybody!』

Make, Bake, and Serve Pizza The wooden pizza consists of six "slices" that are held together by Velcro. Each piece has three Velcro disks for attaching the pizza toppings. Your child can assemble the pizza right on the cheerful green pizza tray. Using pepperoni, mushroom, or peppers, or a combination of the three toppings, she can make a pizza that almost looks good enough to eat.
Once the pizza is "ready," the child can use the pizza cutter to cut the pizza.
