(Great all natural treat)

『I buy the Vitality Duck Breast jerkey as a treat for my ferrets.

I love the package as it is resealable, so no looking for a container to store it in after it is opened. I also like the fact that it is 100% duck with supplements that are good for any animal.』

『My dog has food allergies so it's hard to find snacks for her since she can't have biscuits or meaty treats. She loves these!! The are dried so they can be a little tough to chew so they might not be great for older dogs, but my yellow lab loves them (she's about 4 years old). These treats are highly recommended. She eats one almost every day as her night time snack.』

『I only feed them the Happy Hips Chicken Breasts with glucosamine. All I need to do is go to our kitchen andone of these bags and the two older dogs come waddling in for a treat or two. The younger German shepherd dog Sadie practically gets on her hind legs for a few of these.

I originally got these as treats for the youngest dog, Sadie, for our weekend hikes together. At her weight she can eat four of these and stay within the quota. These don't smell, leave a filmy residue on your fingers, or crumble into small pieces. The packages seal well and are no trouble for my backpack.

Edit 8 Feb 10: Apparently the dogs REALLY love these as I got home from work on Friday and found that Sadie had pulled the sealed bag with five packs off the counter and ripped four packs open. The contents had been devoured. I don't know who exactly ate the treats but I do know that none of the dogs have been limping from arthritic joints these last two days! Perhaps Sadie worked in cooperation with our Siamese mix cat who also enjoys these? He's known to bat stuff off the counter to let the dogs eat contraband off the floor.』

『Thought I was getting a really good buy on these until I read the label. The dosage amount of Glucosamine/Chondroitin is vague. It appears I need to give my dog an entire bag to get him 500 mg of glucosamine. Too expensive for me. The dogs love them, so if you want to give them an expensive treat they'll love, go for it. If you are trying to get a preventative dose of glucosamine in a treat look elsewhere.』

However, each of them only eats the Outer Duck portion. What they do is pull the sweat potato out and then eat the duck. Pretty cute, aren't they!』

『I have made every effort to NOT buy/feed anything made in China to my pet. I researched these duck/sweet potato treats before finally deciding to buy them. Nowhere on the amazon product page does it tell you where these treats are made, so I searched for the Smokehouse website which claimed that ONLY some of their CHICKEN treats contained chicken from China, but all other products are made in the USA. So, I felt safe in purchasing these duck/sweet potato treats. After opening a bag, and giving them to my dog did I glance at the product origin. Needless to say my dog likes them very much, but I was NOT happy to find PRODUCT OF CHINA on the bag.

Boo hiss to amazon for not putting the product origin on the product page, and to Smokehouse for misleading consumers on their product information website. Why do they do this, because there are customers just like me that care where the product originates. Many of you may not be concerned about this, but I am, and I think it's very misleading not to provide accurate, and complete information about the product when purchasing from an internet store. At least the product doesn't smell like plastic like the Dingo products.

I won't be purchasing these again. My dog seemed to like them, but she won't be getting anymore of them. I took a star off due to the lack of complete information from amazon, and misleading information from Smokehouse.

UPDATE: Big thumbs up to amazon for great customer service. When I called to return this item they were very helpful in processing a refund, and because it is considered a grocery item I didn't even have to return the items. I had also purchased the Smokehouse duck chips, but they too are made in China. I suggested the addition of the country of origin to both product pages. Just another reason why I don't hesitate to purchase from amazon. They truly have great customer service....rare these days.』

『This music from Buddy is like second generation blues. Which Buddy was at one time. I'd say the folk blues of the 60s would be third generation. It consists of basic feel riffs with a groove. Think of it like pre-Rolling Stones. What the Rolling Stones wish they could do. To me this is a crowning achievement by Buddy and makes me think of it as Buddy's Voodoo Chile because of the vibe and the feel. But it is real. Real is not easy to come by in todays out put of music. It feels good. It feels right and I like it, allot. This is in my classic music collection now which means I'll be coming back to listen to this CD for years to come. Blues and music can't be done any better than this.』

『I was first a little put off my this album since I am a hardcore fan of Deep North Mississippi and Delta blues,but after many listens,this hybrid of Deep Mississippi and Chicago blues works! The way the arrangements and backing(primarily by Jimbo Mathus-2nd guitar,Spam and The Late,Great Sam Carr-Drums)with Buddy's intense Chicago Lead Blues guitar and vocals makes this blues album like no other in Buddy's catalog!The Selection of classic Fat possum artists songs(many of the them,especially the Junior Kimbrough songs)makes Buddy play some more intensely and intimate! Both Downhome and modern at the same time,very hard to do! 5 stars +!』

(Shockingly, stunningly intense and personal)

『Somehow this album slipped through the cracks for me. When I just heard it I thought it must be new. My loss! It burns with an intensity like the best of vintage Leonard Cohen. The guitar is reminiscent of Jimmy Hendricks, Roy Buchanon and the soaring guitar work on Paul Butterfield's fabulous East-West album, but all the while distinctly Buddy Guy's. I had thought that Luther Allison's Bad News Is Coming (another must hear album)was about the pinnacle of this type of Blues, but Sweet Tea may have just moved it over a notch. Not enough to make me remove the autographed photo of B.B. King from my desk, but this album sure is one of my all time favorites as of now.
If you haven't heard this one, you should!』

『Very few artists have attempted--or succeeded in--improving the standard template for classic blues records set some 40 years ago in the golden age of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Perhaps R.L Burnside's recent heavily produced work on Fat Possum Records has come closest to adding an original slant.

On his new album, Buddy Guy looks to the same source for inspiration; seven of the nine songs here are written by Fat Possum's hill-country blues roster, including T-Model Ford and Junior Kimbrough. Working with producer Dennis Herring (Counting Crows, Jars of Clay) and a small collective of Mississippi-based musicians, Guy sings with a passion that can only come from the same source as the songs. The noise generated in the studio through vintage amplifiers has a live and dangerous feel to it. (Stripped-down Old-time stringband music played by the "younger generation")

『Ever wonder what those old 78s by Gus Cannon's Jug Band or the Mississippi Sheiks would sound like it they were recorded with modern recording equipment and had no surface noise, so you could hear every instrument clearly. Or, how about a great Carter Family record with a couple of guys, instead of the ladies, backing A.P. on vocals?

Well, that's what you get on this debut CD by the "roots" supergroup - the South Memphis String Band. Comprised of young blues aficionado Alvin Youngblood Hart, Luther Dickinson (North Mississippi Allstars) and Jimbo Mathus (Squirrel Nut Zippers), this laid back group moseys through a half-dozen classics and adds another six-pack of newly arranged traditional songs.

This isn't rock and its not exactly the blues. Its just old-timey vocal string band music. Even the packaging is laid back with no color (its strictly a monochrome affair) and no list of who is singing lead on each of the tracks.

Kick off your shoes and sit back with a "cold one". This album will provide the atmosphere you need.

Jim Dickinson (1941 2009)

When Luther Dickinson, Alvin Youngblood Hart and Jimbo Mathus got together to make music, it certainly wasn t out of commercial consideration. This troika of roots-imbued musical pros coalesced through a shared vision and consuming passion for the music of their forebears, most notably the Mississippi Sheiks, Memphis Jug Band, Gus Cannon s Jug Stompers and other practitioners of pre-blues era roots sounds.

Home Sweet Home, their first album, out on Memphis International January 19th, showcases their passion for the old timey tradition that is underscored by the group s name: South Memphis String Band. South Memphis, of course, is that rough and tumble area of the Bluff City extending from downtown to the Mississippi border, and beyond. It s where Stax Records as well as, literally, hundreds of churches thrived. The sacred and profane, holy rolling and dice rolling, were cheek by jowl in old South Memphis and its modern day namesake reflects that ecumenicism quite brilliantly. For Luther, Alvin and Jimbo, South Memphis is more of a musical state of mind than a specific geographical location.

They ve been called a regional roots music supergroup but the alliance of Dickinson (from the North Mississippi Allstars and, of late, the Black Crowes), Hart (the Grammy winner who is as equally adept at thrash rock as he is at country blues) and Mathus (of the Squirrel Nut Zippers) is more like three good friends just putting it down in a very traditional way. Mathus explained, Luther, Youngblood Hart and myself have been musical co-conspirators for over a decade. It is only fitting that we should come together with acoustic instruments and perform Mississippi music.

Michael Hoinski, writing in the Austin American-Statesman witnessed what s so special about SMSB at a recent performance noting, The American experience is the main unifier of this slap happy yet sureshot trio... Each player is principally a bluesman but also well-schooled in country, folk and gospel.

When asked about the subject matter of SMSB s repertoire, Alvin responds without hesitation, "Natural disasters, bushwackers, train songs... Home Sweet Home s tune stack with songs identified with Gus Cannon, Blind Willie Johnson, The Mississippi Sheiks, Carter Family underscores that thought with titles like Jesse James, Bootlegger's Blues, and Bloody Bill. The latter song, along with Worry 'bout Your Own Backyard is an original but is reflective of the old timey ethos that, thanks to Luther, Alvin and Jimbo, continues. 『A brilliant look back on Baez' life, music and activist past and present. Beautifully presented, combining footage from the times with comments from Joan today. Wow! She's still such an impressive woman in every way. It chronicles not just her music but also her part in the civil rights movement, her continuing involvement in social justice issues (including dangerous visits to both Hanoi and Sarajevo). But there's also fun and warmth; her humanity shines through - no perfect saint! A great DVD for Baez fans but also maybe to give to the younger generation who may not know the history or the songs. My daughter - 26 - loved it. I have now given it to 4 people who have all loved it!!』

(Joan Baez: A Legend in Her Own Time)

『This is a complete and clear presentation of the life and many accomplishments of a legend in the history of the world and in music. It depicts the many accomplishments and illustrates why she is a living legend. There are clips of her that even she did not know existed. They show her in her very early years through her current concert tour. I would recommend this program for people who share a generation with her. I would further recommend the program to teach the younger generation how a person can live the same life that they propose. It shows why Joan is referred to as a legend.
If there were more stars, it should be rated with a lot more.』

(inspiration for younger folk singers)

『This film is brilliant! I hope it inspires a new generation of protest folk singers/activists. We need to learn the lessons of the 60's generation. Activism isnt sitting behind a keyboard. They had some successes ie laws against racism etc which have been limited but better than nothing! At the same time, the 60's generation didnt go far enough. They needed to be better organised.Nowadays it may be a bit harder with big brother watching, but with a little imagination you can get around that. Today we need to reclaim democracy so that it is really by, for and of, the people, and not the multi-national corporations. Come on you young folk singers lets get it rolling!』

『I would have bought any DVD featuring Joan Baez. So I did but it turned out to be one of the best DVD's that I own. The music and the understanding of it is great, but what I didn't know enogh about was what a powerful life that she has lived and her bravery in repeatedly standing up for what she believed in. Very touching and inspiring. We have watched it several times both for the good music and at other time listening more carefully for the commentary... Obviously I really liked it and would recommend it to anyone who has any interest in Joan Baez, her music and the events of the 60s to the present.

『This is one of our favorite movies, even our kids liked it when they saw it for the first time!』

(A Wonderfully Funny Film With Tragic Undertones)

『A movie set in the early '60's with everything that applies - the assasination of JFK, the shadow of Vietnam, the evolving Civil Rights movement, the great exodis to the West Coast, and the coming-of-age and breaking up of old ties in the face of high school graduation or dropping-out. I have not read the book by Richard Price and I don't know why he decided to set it in the time period that he has unless it's to use the Kennedy thing as symbolic of the passing of innocence (as if it hasn't been overused as such already).

Basically it's the story of several working class ethnic teenage gangs and one in particular, the Italian-based Wanderers, lead by the charismatic and generaly level-headed Ritchie (Ken Wahl, WISEGUY). Their nearest competitors for control of turf are the Baldies, led by a huge, seemingly good-natured monstrosity called Terror (Erland van Lidth de Jeude) and his tiny-but-tough girlfriend Peewee (Linda Manz, DAYS OF HEAVEN) Other gangs include the Asian Wongs and the Black Del bombers (The DB's). But all these groups fade into insignificance in the face of the large and vicious Ducky Boys, a silly name for a malevolent, almost demonic gang that seems to perpetually carry its own fog and avant-garde music along with it.

A different threat to Ritchie's world comes in the person of Nina (Karen Allen), an independent spirit who comes from a far greater world than the Bronx. She has greater intellectual interests, such as playing classical music on her car radio, listening to Bob Dylan singing "Blowin' In The Wind", and reading "Lady Chaterley's Lover" for its literary merits while guessing rightly that Ritchie has read it for the dirty parts. All of this is far removed from the world Ritchie knows, but Ritchie is drawn to her because he senses she is part of a different world, largely because she is not as shallow as his other friends are, like his regular girlfriend Despie (Toni Kalem).

This is a wonderfully funny movie with snappy dialogue, a few good one-liners (Terror: "Now, there you go again: hurtin' our feelin's.") and numerous awkward situations for our heroes. Gang violence as we know it is fairly minimul. There are a few tragic undertones such as when one Wanderers' member, Turkey, decides he now wants to join the Baldies (This makes him an outsider who is later killed by the Ducky Boys). Richtie encounters a group of people watching the JFK assasination in a TV store and crying. But some of the funny moments include an encounter between Ritchie and his pal Joey and the Baldies (I won't tell what that eventually involved), how a few Mob bosses cool down some uncooperative gang members in a bowling alley, and the Baldies getting drunk and winding up enlisting in the Marines (Even this has its tragic undertones: Vietnam is just on the horizon). Things climax when a football game between the Wanderers and the DBs is interrupted by a mass invasion of the Ducky Boys and all gangs bury their differences, beat back the invaders and later reunite at a party to mark Ritchie's upcoming marriage to Despie.

I place this film among those that I will watch when I'm just absolutely stuck as to what I want to see on the tube.

(Coming of age in a seminal era)

『Music, direction, relationships, friendships, high-school, sex, peers, etc., THE WANDERERS has it all. So when it came to our town in the early 80's, it struck a chord with a few pals for the way it portrayed a group of friends who hung together thru thick and thin while growing up together. We related.

So much so that a frame was clipped from the film and sent to a jacket company on the Left Coast and 18 of us got Wanderers jackets, just like the ones in the film. The day they came in we opened the box outside the theatre, put them on in admiration and went in and saw the film once again. (I've seen it probably 75 times now.) Sometime in the mid-90's we were paid a visit by Rose and Phil Kaufman (Mom and Pop to us), who posed for pictures with the 10 or so Telluride Wanderers still in town.

I must say that the film has held up better than many of the jackets, some threadbare and some stretching to fit older and larger bodies. The film still says what it did when I first saw it, i.e., that friendship is important and can get you thru tough times, that honor is important, and that even though you move on in life, the soundtrack of your younger life can be taken with you as you grow up.』

『I remember seeing this movie when I was 12 and loving it. Now, 42 years later I've finally gotten to see it again (thanks, Amazon!). It is certainly dated with some rather odd dialogue and stilted acting by a few of the supporting actors, and it didn't tug on my heartstrings the way I remember it did all those years ago, but it is such a delight to get to watch Anthony Newley that I didn't care. Worth watching on a rainy Sunday...』

(Remembering Tony)

『As a child of the 60s and 70s, I grew up with Anthony Newley's songs as a soundtrack to my life--and never really knew it. If you look back he's everywhere. Remember the Goldfinger song? He (with writing partner Leslie Bricusse) wrote it--along with all those tunes you loved in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. His performances in Dr. Dolittle and Sweet November (impress your date with this one, guys) are well worth revisiting--or discovering for the first time. Newley should not be underestimated--he is a legendary figure in pop culture and music. He committed himself to his performances completely. Dig a little and you'll be rewarded. His music, television appearances and live performances will make you smile (YouTube is a great start-- check out his '65 Ed Sullivan performance of "Who Can I Turn To?"). He's up there with the icons of his time; there's a reason Sammy Davis, Jr. covered his tunes with brilliant success. Tony was a HEAVY CAT, mannnn-- a rags to riches story that, thankfully, leaves a legacy of great music and performances for us to enjoy and share with those who haven't met Tony yet. They don't make 'em like Anthony Newley anymore. So buy, "beg, steal or borrow [your] share of laughter)" and add another DVD to your collection. You can put this one in the classics section, and prepare to shed a tear or two between the laughs--Sweet November has a bitter-sweetness that will linger into December and then some.

『There are few films as emotionally involving as SWEET NOVEMBER. By the time the two leads (Anthony Newley as Charley Blake and Sandy Dennis as Sara Deever) meet, they share a chemistry that does not do justice to the word. Theirs is not the celluloid sharing of self that marks most films but their pairing resonates with the best of Hollywood matings. Charley Blake meets Sara Deever and is smitten. She is Greenwich Village vintage kooky. One almost does not like her for that. She seems so shallow next to the earnest but slightly nebbish Charley. She begins to grow in a manner that causes the viewer to see her as if a kaleidescope were involved. She asks him to move in--but with one catch. He must agree to stay only for one month and then leave with no fuss or question. He agrees, thinking that he'll probably move out sooner since she's defintely off center. To his great surprise, he falls for her but suspects that his feelings for her are one way only. How the film works its way out does not manifest itself until near the end, but the manner in which they interact is highlighted by the setting. Her apartment is as quirky as she is; it smacks of a slightly seedy East Village two room. When they take a walk along the East River, New York City and its skyline take center stage but yet we never lose sight that amidst the teeming city of millions a drama is being played out that is variously comedic, romantic, and ultimately tragic. As unsure as Charley is as to where he stands so are we about where she does. In the end, we learn a universal truism: that some people choose to travel a road that is fraught with obstacles and we can either help or get out of the way. Charley Blake is in just such a situation.』

I don't think there has been a film with the chemistry that Newley and Dennis have. I wouldn't change a scene or a word. And, as in "The Apartment," Sarah's apartment is almost the main character. And Newley and Dennis just plain become Charlie and Sarah-from the first minute. The screenplay is perfection. It achieves the ultimate goal: you care about the characters. It is as though you already know them, as though they were your college buddies for four years. (Bleak and beautiful...)

『The unthinkable happens, when a school bus encounters a patch of ice on a road outside a town in rural Canada. Most of the residents are affected in some way. It's all about story and the unfolding of it, and within its genre, I consider this movie a classic. I get cranky when people habitually compare movies to books, for one is not the other, and never shall be. But if you appreciate the work of novelist Russell Banks, I think you'd be hard pressed to order up a more pleasing rendering of the novel. With the movie, you essentially breathe the same air, or at least I did. The same intimate sketches are made of the characters involved. Their relationships, their likes and their animosities, and the way each of them consider the unthinkable development in their lives, are just as beautifully and painfully rendered here, given the medium involved.

The story is simple, but not the people who inhabit that world, or the way they relate to each other. The magic is in the telling and the revealing. If I were limited to a dozen examples of film as art, 'The Sweet Hereafter' would likely be among them. Most of the cast are low-profile, but very talented. The glue that binds the story together, is Ian Holm. He turns in a subtle but unforgettable performance as the lawyer, Mitchell Stephens. He arrives in town seeking multiple clients and expecting to make large settlements. He walks into much more than expected, while at the same time bearing the crushing weight of his own personal torment. The residents of this small town are coping with a collective, unthinkable loss. They suffer together in quiet dignity until legal framework forces them to find, and point toward a cause for their suffering. In spite of great tragedy, a ghostly kind of beauty manages to peek through.』

(The Sweet Hereafter of Bogus Film Criticism)

『'The Sweet Hereafter' concerns the tragic effect of a school bus crash on the townspeople in a rural town. Many critics were afraid to judge the film on its own merits and placed it on a pedestal where they declared such a film "off limits" to any kind of real criticism. Unconsciously the subject matter affected their judgments. Here was a film about a very delicate subject--the death of innocent children. The characters in the film (parents of the deceased children) were all shattered. It was as if criticizing the film was akin to criticizing these parents as well as any parent who had experienced such a tragic loss. But from the point of view of effective drama, the film is virtually a complete failure. Very little of it rings true at all.

Except for some very nice cinematography and an affecting musical score, 'The Sweet Hereafter' plods along at a snail's pace. The director's intent is to display the range of emotions these parents felt in the aftermath of losing their children. But what is so profound about focusing on such grief? The main character, a negligence lawyer, goes around the town convincing the parents to join in a class action lawsuit against the unspecified person or situation which caused the terrible accident. Most of the parents he sees agree to join the lawsuit (a lot of these scenes with the parents are drawn out and could have been easily condensed). The lawyer finally encounters one man who gives him a hard time. This is perhaps the most dramatic conflict that comes up during the film. But this one towns person's opposition to joining the lawsuit is completely vague. Why is he so against joining the lawsuit? Why is so angry at the lawyer? Because he feels the lawyer is profiting at the expense of the townspeople? Even so, is it really believable that he doesn't want to get to the bottom of what happened as opposed to simply dropping the whole case?

The ending of the film is even more unbelievable. The negligence lawyer never seems to have a definitive plan to try the case. He alludes to various factors that caused the accident, such as a faulty guard rail or a defective bolt inside the bus. A real negligence lawyer would never have taken such a huge case in the first place without feeling that he could be successful. It almost seems like he thinks that he uncover the 'truth' during the discovery process. A real lawyer would have already had some tangible evidence (already uncovered) that would have convinced him to go forward. Furthermore, when the young survivor lies in her deposition, stating that the bus driver was driving too fast, the seemingly smart lawyer folds up like a deck of cards and decides not to cross-examine her. A real lawyer could have made mince-meat of her but he chooses to quit the case and leave all his clients in the lurch. In real life he probably would have been hauled in front of an ethics board.

And why does the young survivor decide to lie in the end? Why does she lie knowing that she is accusing the innocent bus driver? Why does she want to case to 'go away'? Is it that she's so traumatized by the accident that she simply wants to forget about it? Everything is left so open and vague in this film that we never understand any of the characters' motivations.

Lastly, there's a lot of lame talk (mostly over the phone) between the lawyer and his drug-addicted, rebellious daughter. Seemingly there's supposed to be some kind of parallel between the lawyer's personal angst and the angst of the townspeople (this is the lawyer's defense when that one townspeople berates him before the climactic deposition scene). All this conflict between the lawyer and the daughter is gratuitous and simply does not work cinematically. We hardly ever see those two characters together and their conflict is basically a separate story which has no real place in this film.

The Sweet Hereafter basically lacks substance. It congratulates itself for displaying the raw emotion of grief but lacks a central antagonist to engage us. An examination of grief in itself is not enough to sustain an entire story. Whenever conflicts do arise in this film, they are episodic, unclearly motivated and for the most part, lacking the ring of truth. If you're strictly into atmosphere and mood, this is the film for you. But if you're looking for a strong story arc with convincing conflicts, you will not find it in 'The Sweet Hereafter'.

Overpraised in many quarters, The Sweet Hereafter is a well-crafted look into the lives of people who have had their lives racked by tragedy, but its clinical detachment and an unnecessary incest subplot prevent Egoyan's film from achieving greatness.』

(bone chilling drama at its best)

『The Sweet Hereafter is a film you're not likely to forget anytime soon. The movie portrays human beings as they can really be--greedy, confused after a huge tragic loss, in denial of guilt and more. The plot moves along at a good pace and the storyline is absolutely fascinating. Unfortunately, this movie is not for everyone since the plot is rather haunting and dark; this is anything but a family film. The actors do a superb job and the cinematography is excellent.

When the action begins, an ambulance chasing lawyer Mitchell Stevens (played by Ian Holm) races up to a small Canadian town after a school bus accident has cost the lives of most of the small town's children. Mitchell approaches the townsfolk to build a huge lawsuit against the people whom he believes he can determine to be guilty for having caused the accident. Perhaps the school bus wasn't regularly maintained--or maybe the manufacturer of the bus used poor quality bolts; Mitchell doesn't care, he just wants a piece of the action.

Of course, some embrace the idea of a lawsuit--but yet others want to forget about any trial and they make no bones about it. In particular, look for Tom McCamus who plays Sam Burnell, a father with a dirty secret and Sarah Polley plays Sam's daughter Nicole. While Sam wants the lawsuit to pay medical bills and probably make a buck off this lemon, his daughter Nicole is not so comfortable with this idea. We come to see that so many of the townsfolk have dark secrets of their own; and even the lawyer Mitchell Stevens has a rather troubled relationship with his daughter Zoë (played wonderfully by Caerthan Banks). There is also the very emotionally scarred bus driver who survived the accident, Dolores Discolt (Gabrielle Rose), who eventually makes it plain that she doesn't want to be judged in a court of law by a jury made up of people who don't know her at all.

As secrets and the rest of the plot unfold, questions arise: Will Dolores change her mind about the lawsuit and want it after all? What about the father of two children who saw the tragedy as he followed the bus in his pickup--will Billy (Bruce Greenwood) ever change his mind and decide a lawsuit is a good idea? And what about Mitchell's own relationship with his daughter Zoë--is there any hope for things to get better between the two of them? Keep an eye out for excellent, practically seamless flashbacks and flash forwards that really impress me with just how smoothly they are woven into the film.

The DVD comes with a plethora of extras: we get an audio commentary by film director Adam Egoyan; and there is a Charlie Rose interview with Egoyan as well. I especially liked the "Q&A" extra with several members of the cast. We even get some biographies and filmographies, too.

All in all, The Sweet Hereafter is an excellent film that I highly recommend. Reserve it for a time when you can handle a heavy film about people and how they can truly be when confronted with a seemingly insurmountable loss. You won't regret watching it.

『Season Four is a great return to form.

What mesmerizes me is, even today, we can have a TV show without ending! Can can this be possible? If NBC did not want another season, they should warn the producers BEFORE they shot Season Four! This kind of attitude help us to never forget the obvious: the ratings are Gods. TV executives simply don't care about the quality or boldness of a show (in that sense, it was real miracle that Seinfeld survived its first season - not because it was bad, but because the ratings were very weak).

We followed Earl for four seasons. We wanted to see the final destinies of the list, of Crabman, of Joy, Randy and all the fascinating recurring characters. But no, that was not to be. NBC killed it, and killed it without mercy.

But why was that? I think that's because rating fell during Season Three, which was by far the worst, to the point that, in some episodes, I was wishing then to END, instead of whising they did not end, if you kown what I mean. But it was not crap by any standards, it was still above-average TV.

Well, Jason Lee and Greg Garcia did their best. And it's best to finish the whole damn thing than to work with ridiculous small budgets.

『Half the episodes were the funniest of the entire series, yet many others were absolutely unfunny. I love a good comedy, and the gross humor and the dumb humor were at times incredibly hilarious. This may not be a must buy, but it is worth the cost especially since Earl is now off the air. The last episode did help bring closure to some important issues.』

『I love My Name is Earl. It's simple, stupid, and fun. This season is so frustrating, not just because NBC pulled the show altogether but they let the season end with a "to be continued" episode. If you have the others, then you need to get this one. And once you are as poed as I am when you see "to be continued" then you need to get on your computer, phone or at your desk and write a letter letting NBC know they SUCK for cutting this show.』

『Season four was a great return to form after a disappointing Season three. Anyone who enjoyed seasons one and two will like season four.

In season three "The Hickeys", whatever satire it was supposed to be, bored me - a lazy comic device for some slapstick and cast members being self indulgent. A note also to casting - put Paris Hilton in anything and it will be crap. I did love "Our Other Cops is On" though and it was great to see Joy getting blackmailed and giving birth. Jon Heder is terrific too. For fans it is still worth buying but overall it just isn't as consistently good as the other seasons.

For me, season four recaptured much of the pleasure and fun I found in the first two seasons. I am glad I stayed loyal. Sadly NBC did not and season four is our last visit to Camden County. Here in Australia the show has also not received much commitment from Channel 7, the local broadcaster. It took a long time to get to air after the initial US broadcast and as of mid September 09 there still remains a number of unscreened episodes. Still you can find all sorts of things out there in the Wide Wide World of Web, can't you Joy, when tv execs give your favourite show a berry twister.

Anyways 5 stars from me and a recommendation to buy. I sure will be looking out for future Greg Garcia projects. (After Earl I have gone back and checked out Jason Lee's previous film work - nearly all misfires except for the wonderful little independent film "Chasing Amy"made in the late 90's. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out too)』

(Fun starter kit!)

『I received this kit over a month ago. I followed the directions pretty closely, although I wouldn't call myself a green thumb. Everything sprouted but about half of the seedlings didn't make it in the long run. Certain plants seem more hardy: cilantro, mint, oregano, chives and basil all have since been transplanted and are doing well. This is a great, easy way to start herbs from seed and the tray is reusable. It also comes with more of the starter "pods" than will actually fit in the tray, so you can always try a second batch later after you have transplanted the first batch to larger containers.』

『The kit arrived VERY quickly, and I got planting right away. The little peat pellets are a very clever way to start seedlings. I'll be using them more in the spring to start my regular garden. The instructions vary for each different type of seed, and most of my seeds sprouted quickly. There was one that didn't come up, but there is plenty of additional starter pellets and seed to do a second, and maybe even a third planting, so no worries. The little seedlings are growing every day! It's pretty fun ;-)』

(Great in theory but...)

『...it's really difficult to put this set together. I thought it would be similar to the chia herb garden. Or, a bit more upper level.

First, you have to soak the seeds. Have you ever tried getting tiny, tiny seeds out of water and then to try burying them in small "go go gadget" growing pellets?

It's hard. I am not dumb but felt that way in trying to get this together. I just hope I did it right and that my plants grow! We'll find out in 3 weeks!』
