『You are purchasing one Bay Laurel Herb plant growing in a 4" pot. They are about 7" tall and branched.
Sweet Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis)
Bay laurel is a pyramid-shaped tree or large shrub with aromatic, evergreen leaves and shiny gray bark. It can reach 60' in height in its native range, but generally is much smaller (3-10' tall) in culture. The leaves are elliptic, 3-4" long, rather thick and leathery, and shiny dark green. Clusters of small yellow flowers are produced in spring, followed, on the female plants, by shiny black or purple berries about 1/2" long.Location: Bay laurel is native to the southern Mediterranean region. It is grown commercially for its aromatic leaves in Turkey, Algeria, Morocco, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, and Mexico.
Culture: Light: Bay laurel grows best in partial shade. Moisture: Water when dry. Bay laurel thrives with frequent watering in rich, well-drained soil. Hardiness: USDA Zones 8 - 10. Propagation: Bay laurel seeds are slow to germinate and often rot before they do. Cuttings taken from semi-hard, green tip shoots in summer will root in 6-9 months if they don't rot first. It can be grown as a house plant in room temperatures ranging between 40° and 65°, if it gets at least four hours of bright light a day, or 12 hours of strong artificial light. Keep the soil moist in spring and moderately dry the rest of the year; good drainage is essential.Bay Laurel makes an excellent house plant in room temperatures ranging between 40° and 75°, if it gets at least four hours of bright light a day, or 12 hours of strong artificial light. (Magnificent) 『One of the finest CD's Ive ever listened to, even better when you have someone as magificent as Jessye Norman and of course Kathleen Battle. Two tremendous stars that shine bright in anyones life.』
(I wish I had seen the concert) 『Put two operatic sopranos together for a concert of spirituals, and what do you expect? So much emphasis on artistry, that the almost sacredness of the spiritual is lost? Not so in this case! Both Norman and Battle have maintained the depth of feeling this genre is meant to portray. Put two operatic sopranos together for a concert, and what do you expect? Two voices so similar that time drags in a seemingly endless monotony? Not so in this case! The contrast between Norman's sheer power and Battle's lyricism and vocal flexibility keeps the listener on audio tiptoe. And there is the obvious rapport with their audience, so vividly noted in the crowd's response throughout "Scandalize My Name." I can understand the concerns of some previous reviewers, that this is not what we might call a "standard" approach to spirituals. However, my collection includes several recordings of spirituals, from the simplicity of Marion Anderson, to the folksiness of Harry Belafonte, to "Spirituals for Strings," and the chorales of Fred Waring and Robert Shaw. Each of these approaches elicits a new depth of the feeling expressed in this musical form. "Spirituals in Concert" is a welcome and worthy addition to what I already owned.』
(It Just Doesn't Get Any Better!) 『You can tell right from the start that they had fun doing this performance together. Listen in particular to "Scandalized My Name." What a kick! This recording is from the PBS TV broadcast of a few years ago. Just hearing them isn't as good as seeing the show, but it's about as close as you can get. Great music.』
("Lord, How Come Me Here") 『I must add, to the praises above, that Kathleen Battle's "Lord, How Come Me Here" is the best "quick" explanation of the long-lasting effects of slavery that I can think of. The line, "They sold my children away," says it all.
And the VERY funny "Scandelize My Name" is also worth the price of the total album!

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A big voice needs a big arrangement) 『The accompanying orchestra arrangements sound like they were done on the cheap. "Ave Maria" was not a good track for her personally.
You can get away with a voice that is less than perfect if you produce it with more of a wet sound (David Bowie has been doing this for years). Production was dry and revealing.
I say give her a do-over. Use a classic Shure or RCA mike, and stand back a bit. Get good arrangements. Vary the instrumentation and recording space. Dump any synthesized sound. Avoid anything cloying. Sing like a warm hearted soul on a cold street corner. Actually record tracks in December, then release the CD the next year.』
(Long Live The Queen!) 『This woman is phenomenal! After all these years, she still manages to be fresh and surprising in both subtle and obvious ways. I love her rendition of Silent Night. True, it is my all-time favorite carol and there is but one Aretha Franklin, so I did not expect to be disappointed. And I wasn't because ReRe makes this song go down like a warm glass of brandy on a cold winter night. It's like your favorite blanket freshly washed and still warm and fragrant from the dryer. Maybe it's me but it seemed a personal statement for her, and the gorgeous piano work didn't hurt. Ave Maria left me wishing for what could've been! That said, I personally would like to see her tackle more European classical music as she seems to enjoy it. Imagine a whole album of Aretha's arias, that would be awesome!!
This is a great xmas album for grown folks, and I like that a lot. It's an asset to any Aretha collection or xmas collection. No phony sugary gloss. Great track selection although I do think Donny Hathaway's This Christmas should be put to bed now: everybody and his mother have done that song! If I hear one more version I'll scream.』
(Aretha with real conviction) 『I have followed Aretha's career for over 40 years - I have to say that the quality of her albums since the Duets album of the late 1980's have been patchy - with the occasional strong track. Her last really strong album was for me - One Faith, One Lord One Baptism. That album had her singing with passion and conviction.
Now for the great news - this album has that same sparkle of real passion and total conviction. It's a gospel album - with a Christmas theme with an emphasis on the family too. Don't let the thought of a Christmas Album put you off purchasing since you could listen to this album whenever you need spiritual uplifting.
The whole album has a divine production with Aretha also accompanying herself on piano. Too many of her previous albums have had a super slick production which almost made Aretha's presence secondary. On this album it's that divine voice we hear and all the better for it. One of the previous reviewers complained that her voice was not a patch on her early Atlantic material. Surprise surprise - hey it's mellowed like fine wine. The nearest comparison would to compare Nina Simone's voice from the 1960s and her final album "A Single Woman". Fine wine again.
The greatest merit of this album is that the production is sympathetic, pared down as appropriate and places Aretha's voice in the forefront. For any listener I defy you not to feel the hairs on the back of your neck stand up as she testifies!
For any who are uncertain - take the plunge - you will be rewarded with one of the finest albums in her large catalogue.
Well done Miss Franklin.

I still can't believe I actually sat through this entire movie. And yet, somehow, it occurred. Eram, who previously directed the Corey Feldman vehicle Voodoo and has (mercifully) done nothing since, gives us David Thoreau (Side Out)'s unbelievably boring script about one Jennifer Clark (Bridgette Wilson, recently of Shopgirl), a quite crazy young lass who signs on as a surrogate mother for prospective parents Naomi Nomura (Seiko Matsuda of the recent live-action adaptation of Hotaru no Haka) and Michael Miller (Scott Cohen of the ill-fated Law and Order spinoff Trial by Jury). Once she's moved in and gotten pregnant (though there's an odd early subplot about whether she really is pregnant or not that simply disappears about thirty minutes into the movie), she starts messing around with the couple's lives-- flirting with Michael, seducing Naomi's boss at a party, that sort of thing. Of course, it all leads to her demands for more money. You didn't see that one coming, did you? But that's not all, folks! Jennifer-- or whoever she is-- has an even deeper reason for messing with these folks' lives. But I'll leave that for you to find out, assuming you scare up the intestinal fortitude to watch this awful, awful movie.
Frankly, it amazes me that anyone involved with this film went on to have a career afterwards (including the redoubtable Peter Boyle, who plays-- with no life whatsoever-- the couple's lawyer). The acting really is that bad across the board. Since a number of these folks have gone on to do pretty impressive work, one has to think the director was at fault. And maybe it's the DVD I saw, but the picture was horrible. I can't imagine it was actually released like that, but my version of "fuzzy" could be someone else's of "soft focus", so it's not entirely impossible that it was actually meant to look like that. (No points off, then, though I can't really take too many more without this going through the floor.) This idea is reinforced by some of the odder camera angles in the movie, which may have been used to induce some sort of discomfort in the viewer, but just made me wonder whether they were using handhelds to film this flick. It doesn't surprise me one bit that this movie went direct to video everywhere except Japan. (It does, however, surprise me that it got a theatrical release in Japan, of all places, where they know how to do thrillers right.)
Avoid at all costs. Half a star because, for some reason, I actually finished watching it.
』
(Gripping thriller) 『"Sweet Evil" has also been marketed under the title "Surrogate Mother" and stars Bridgette Wilson as Jennifer Ray Clark, a beautiful woman who harbors some very dark secrets. She becomes a surrogate mother for a yuppie couple, architect Michael Miller [Scott Cohen] and news anchor Naomi Nomura [Seiko Matsuda]. It doesn't take too long for the young couple to suspect that something is seriously amiss with Jennifer as she starts wrecking their lives, first in imperceptible ways, before escalating into open hostility and terror.
The movie develops at a good pace and Bridgette Wilson credibly plays the role of a psychotic pregnant woman with vengeance on her mind. Scott Cohen and Seiko Matsuda too are credible in their roles as the terrorized young couple, but it is Wilson who shines. There is also a good supporting role by Peter Boyle as Jay Glass, Naomi's agent.
This is not just a B-grade suspense flick, there is a good storyline with some solid acting and makes for an engrossing watch.』
(Suspenseful) 『This movie is a great little thriller with Bridgette Wilson-Sampras as a very disturbed surrogate with ulterior motives.』
(Bitter taste) 『How can two reviewers give this film four stars? It's such a mess even amazon list the same film twice http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-url/ref=br_ss_hs/103-2654865-7610259?platform=gurupa&url=index%3Ddvd%26dispatch%3Dsearch%26results-process%3Dbin&field-keywords=sweet+evil&Go.x=0&Go.y=0 under two different release dates, and http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0314748/fullcredits leaves out the second leading lady Seiko Matsuda
The reason; they re-released it under another name "Final Vendetta" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116306/
The lengths they went to, to confuse people caught me out too, as I'd already seen this film and purchased it again under the different title.
Anyway, the plot: A woman seduces her way into a childless house in order to act as their surrogate. She becomes pregnant, kills a few people suspicious of her and then attempts to kill the husband and wife (played by Matsuda).
That's it. The 'sex' scenes are done with them all fully-clothed. SO it can't even be claseed as an 'erotic' thriller.』
(very good movie) 『this movie is a really good thriller, it keeps you on you toes throughout the whole movie. If you like thriller movies then you will love this one.』
Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A very fun movie for the dark comedy crowd) 『A very nice break from the "for the masses" movies that keep coming from Hollywood. If you appreciate the art of writing and filming, have a healthy sense of humor and can at least except that there are some people that have a darker senses of humor, then you can digest this movie. It's well worth a rental, in my opinion. Caution, a sense of humor is mandatory as well as intelligence to "get it".』
(Multi-dimensional) 『A classic Quentin style film with ending ecclipsing True Romance. Diverse character profile. Advice: don't sell a vacuum to Tilley, look at the mother, and sometimes driving a Caravan may yeild the American dream.』
(DEADLY DESERT) 『AMERICAN STRAYS is a disjointed, sometimes frustrating movie, but it is outrageously funny at times, and the cast is superb. Sure, there are a lot of unanswered questions as to how these guys all end up in the same cafe; why and when did they do their respective crimes, etc., etc., and ultimately, why the suicide storyline is needed at all, since it doesn't tie in with the remaining storylines. But it has some unusual storylines, and as they all kind of mesh toward the end, we can see writer/director Michael Covert's assessment of violence and how easily it has become such a "normal" thing in our society. Luke Perry is the suicidal young man who hires the Exterminator (Flash Gordon's Sam Jones, still a strong force in this film) to help him commit suicide. Vaccum cleaner salesman John Savage (in one of his best performances) is scouring the desert looking for "lonely" people he can bump off under the pretense of selling his wares. He meets his match in the seductively flaky Jennifer Tilly (superb) as a lonely woman who bumps off traveling salesmen; James Russo and the late Joe Viterelli play a couple of hitmen who have a cop in their trunk and who argue about Viterelli's family lineage; Carol Kane plays the accented owner of the cafe who has little to do but as always does it well; Scott Plank and Melora Walters are bank robbers who are planning to get married since she is pregnant with his child; Anthony Lee and Vondo Sweet as two "bruthas" whose past we don't know a whole lot about, but it is Lee whose assessment of the Star Spangled Banner resonates in the final shootout; and finally, we have Eric Roberts and Toni Kalem as a married couple with two obnoxious children who are obviously moving to a new home since he has somehow lost his job and has no money. His attempts to feed his family are tragically noble and hilarious when the shootout begins. AMERICAN STRAYS is not your average movie, but it kept me highly entertained and that's what I look for in any kind of movie.』
(Nothing to see here folks...) 『Using elements from several other more popular films, American Strays brings together six different stories with the meeting room being a cafe in the desert. In one story we have Luke Perry as a man who cannot cope with his life and hires an "Exterminator" to help him end his existence. The second story is about two hit men who are driving through the desert. One is cut up really bad and is wearing band-aids, the other is an overweight gentlemen with stomach problems. They really don't have much plot other than they provide the ending with some more bodies. The third story is about two people who are driving through the desert. They have a moment in their car where you question their friendship. Nothing becomes of this moment, and eventually they make it to the cafe. The fourth story is about a vacuum salesman. For more than half the film, we follow the path of Dwayne, a salesman who is willing to try any pitch to try to get his vacuum sold. Interestingly played by John Savage, this is the best story of the film. He travels from door to door in the desert demonstrating to potential buyers the effectiveness of his vacuum at a "killer" price. The fifth story is about two lovers on the run from the law. Constantly in some sort of sexual embrace, these two have just robbed something, and are driving around and having sex whenever they want. The sixth and final story has to do with just a random family. Eric Roberts plays a man who is lost in the desert with his family in a minivan. All of these stories interweave together when they should all be going in separate directions.
What happened in 1996? This film made no sense at all. I felt like I began the film in the middle of the actual movie. There is no discussion at all, there is not even a hint, as to how all these characters happened to be in the same desert. All this film is meant to show is violence can happen to anybody.
While other are happy with comedic lines, I actually needed some pre-story to bring this film together. Literally, we jump right into the middle of the robber's story. We have no clue how he got the cash, or how long him and his lady friend have been together. We have no history of Roberts family. No clue what happened to him prior to entering the desert, or where they are headed to. All that we know is that they are as lost as I was in this film. What was the point of the train that Luke Perry kept seeing? Was it to symbolize that his life was about ready to arrive? How did the hit men get the cop in the back of their car, and why were they still carrying it? Who were the gangsta's and what was their part in this film?
QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS, QUESTIONS......I NEED ANSWERS ANSWERS ANSWERS!!!
There were some decent ideas in this film, but without building a story it is hard to develop these ideas. My feeling is that perhaps the director made this film, and found that he only had the budget to release the second half. If that was the case, here is my advise to the director...scrap the project...there is no reason to beat a dead horse. A self-conscious, contrived gallery of oddball characters are simply derived from parts of David Lynch, and the Coen brothers, with some sub-Tarantinoesque dialogue thrown in.
Unless you, as a viewer, enjoy picking out odd character actors, then I suggest slowly backing away from this film because "there is nothing to see here folks...."
Grade: * out of *****』
(Memorably funny movie) 『I thought this movie was hilarious. I love the guy w/ the dolls:"Hey girls, brought you a new little sister. She's a little different, let's try to get along."Of course, offbeat dark humor is my thing.』

(....boring) 『This movie was very boring and I dint follow the plot at all. I love seeing white men and black women together thats the main reason I watched it.』
(Surprisingly Good) 『Bought for only $1.00 at Wal-Mart. Was expecting a poorly made independent film, but was pleasantly surprised by this film. Part romance, mix in a little comedy, a little racial tension and a stellar cast, and you get a good story that is completely watchable and believable. I especially like that the movie ended with the romantic leads going their separate ways, possibly to reunite later. Added a realistic touch.
This was probably the movie before some of these actors hit the big time. Nicely done.』
(Missing something, bu not star power!) 『This movie was editted, but I got the jest of the director's point of view. The movie centers around Adrien Body's character who has just been dumped. He is a beginning screenplay writer who works at a restaurant to pay the bills until he is successful. All the character's work at the restaurant. They vary in races and the premise is how they get along with each other.
They movie is okay. I love Adrien Brody, so it was no big deal to watch him. He is a great actor and this role fit him. Elise Neal did a great job as a aspiring singer and his love interest. They movie was good, but not great. It lacked something, that I can' quite put my finger on. It had enough stars with Simon Baker, Lauryn Hill, Brody, and Neal, but something was missing. It is a movie I will watch again.』
(Restaurant) 『This heart-wrenching drama focuses on aspiring writer Chris Calloway, played soulfully by Adrien Brody. His past love with an African-American women, played by the exquisitely beautiful Lauryn Hill, haunts his present life, interfering with his artistic creativity, friendships, and current lover. Shadows of racism hinder his ability to truthfully love, truthfully write, and truthfully live.
As we watch Chris and his friends pinball between the things they want to do, and the things they need to do, we begin to relive our own painful experiences in the field of love.
Tensions rise as Chris grasps to make decisions that will forever affect his happiness, for better, and for worse.
Adrien Brody, Elise Neal, Simon Baker,&Lauryn Hill give memorable performances.』
『Chris (Adrien Brody), an aspiring playwright, pays the bills as a bartender at an upscale New York restaurant and pours his frustrations into his work. Jeanine (Elise Neal), an aspiring singer from a musical family, is the newest waitress on the staff. He's Italian American and she's African American, but the chemistry is there. All that stands between them is Chris's unresolved feelings for his ex (pop star Lauryn Hill in a cameo), the reverberations of his blue-collar father's dinner-table racism, and the unspoken and usually ignored but unavoidable issue of race. Eric Bross (Ten Benny, also with Brody) has a light touch with his ensemble cast--which also features Malcolm-Jamal Warner as a well-spoken law student and Jesse L. Martin of TV'sLaw and Orderas a philosophical line cook--and the thoughtful script. The issues simmer below the surface of the individual dramas, romantic complications, and personal struggles with self-esteem and responsibility that buzz through the restaurant, finally boiling over in a raw but dramatically restrained finale. Much of the drama floats between clear-eyed honesty and hip glibness, but Bross and his cast anchor the drama in vivid, complicated characters who bring the film to life.Restaurant, which sat on the shelf before receiving a short theatrical run, is noDo The Right Thing, but in its own respectful way manages to cast a fresh look at race relations.--Sean Axmaker』

Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (A flavor from the islands) 『Rum cakes are a holiday favorite of mine. I ordered directly from the Tortuga Rum Company last year, christmas 2008, and got the golden original 33 ounce and the blue coffee 33 ounce. I really loved the original, the coffee wasn't as much to my liking. The original was really moist while the other tended to be more dry. I also had to pay shipping. This year I ordered thru amazon and saved over $10 on the cost of the cake and I got free shipping. The rum cake itself is sealed in plastic inside the box to retain it's rum content and freshness. I am an occassional drinker; rum, tequila, bourbon being my favorites. I didn't think that the rum was overpowering; yes you can tell its there, but also the flavor of the cake complements it. I think they have an excellent "Rum Cake" and this would be a great indulgence for the holidays. Highly recommended. I will have to order another before christmas cause mine is already gone.』
(Tartuga Rum Cake) 『 A disappointment. A very bland "pound" cake with a little rum flavor. Too bad that the product was not equal to the packaging.』
(Tortuga Rum Cake) 『This rum cake is delicious. I first bought it when I vacationed in the Bahamas and I've been hooked since. The cake is delicious with a cup of coffee or with nothing and it's a very nice dessert to serve to guest.』
(Delicious, but something I can make myself) 『My husband ordered this since I am especially fond of the booze cakes that are sold at Trader Joe's during the holidays. It was very moist, appropriately rummed up, and quite good, but there are really easy recipes online for the same cake. From now on, I'll just make my own.』
(MMmmm!!!!) 『I kept trying to find an original cake without walnuts but couldn't because they don't have any. But the walnut is not throughout it, only on the top. I am not a big fan of walnuts in my food but DAMN i must say this thing is delicious. Can't get enough of this thing!!!!』 『A taste of the Islands. A taste of the Caribbean! Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Who doesn't love agave?) 『I really like this bulk form of agave. I do a lot of baking with agave, so this is perfect in the gallon size. I think it's great that it came at such a good price too. I would like to see some darker agave options, but I was happy to have found this product. It was light, and not too syrupy which is great for sweetening tea. It also worked well for baking fruit desserts like gallettes&cobblers.』
(great stuff!!!) 『I love using the natural product in my coffee!!! no strange taste like using honey can sometimes give.』 『Perfect sweetner option for Vegans&Vegetarians.
Agave Nectar is the perfect sweetener choice for vegans, vegetarians and raw / living food diets. It can be used in place of honey, corn syrup&maple syrup. It can be substituted for sugar in most recipes. Agave is sweeter than sugar, so generally 2/3 cups of agave replace 1 cup of sugar. Experiment to taste. It is certified organic, 100% pure and contains no animal products of any kind.
Made from the Agave Salmiana (not the Blue Agave) that grows in the high desert regions of central Mexico. Agave nectar has a low glycemic index of 32. Compare to 58 for honey and 64 for table sugar. Agave has the same calories as honey, but as most folks find it to be sweeter less is needed. In such a case, less calories are consumed.』

(My favorite chai mix) 『I have searched far and wide for the perfect Chai tea mix --- and I found it in Big Train!! I first discovered it at a tea shop in a yuppie neighborhood about 10 miles away from my home. I would make the drive just for this tea whenever I could. The tea house eventually (foolishly?) advertised the brand name in the window! I haven't been back since I received Big Train from Amazon.com. Tip: make with half skim milk/half water; add about the half of the suggested Chai mix to start; then add more to taste. Enjoy!』

Instead of receiving chocolate covered beans I received a bag that consisted of melted chocolate. The shipping and handling was very high and I thought that the chocolate would probably arrive a little soft but this is just ridiculous. The bag looks and feels like it's filled with chocolate syrup.』
(Fine As Beans, But Misleading Advertising Here) 『The beans are fine... nothing exceptional. One of the reasons I selected this item as a gift was because of the attractive jar in which the beans are presented. As you have guessed by now, the jar is NOT included. They've been great for her to learn the animal names and noises (well, noises for some of the animals, anyway!), and after watching the animals running around the tub (courtesy of Daddy), she has now learned to make the animals run by herself, along with commentary-- i.e., "waddle, waddle" for the penguin. She also recently learned how to fill the animals with water and squirt out the water all by herself. These toys are also very portable and easy to clean, so whether we're going to Grandma's or for a doctor's appointment, I hide a few in the diaper bag so they can surprise her when a little entertainment is needed. I don't clean them in diluted bleach very often, and they still look and smell fine. I highly recommend these cute toys!』
(Great bath toys!) 『Our 16-month old loves these squirt toys, both in the bath and out. The penguin is especially good at squirting. Highly recommended!』
(paint comes off) 『These are so cute and my 11mo daughter loves to play with them. We have never put them in the tub because I read about mildew build-up inside them. But they are cute and she loves to play with them anyway.
The problem is she is still a mouthing baby and puts these little critters in her mouth. We have only owned them for about a month. The paint is coming off the sheep's face, which she likes to suck on. The raccoon is loosing his paint, and he hasn't even been played and that started happening right out of the bag. The cow looks like the paint has rubbed off in some spots too.
I tried looking online to see what kind of paint it is, as sometimes they are waterbased and non-toxic, however I can't imagine that a company would use waterbased paint on a bath toy.
They sure are cute though. Maybe the company can address the issue with the paint coming off. Until then, it would probably be advisable to save your money and find a safer product for your little one. 』
(love, love, love this baby bath toys!) 『I bought this baby bath toys for my first born, he was only 7 months at that time and just loves this toys, they are small enough to fit in his little hands, and so soft, I love the colors, they are very well made. my son is now 2 years old and still enjoys playing with them in the tub! (luv it!) 『I love all of the Melissa&Doug puzzles I bought for my grandson. They're easy to pick up, sturdy pieces, strong colors - very durable! They're a great teaching tool! He'll go back to them time after time. Great products!』
(Cheaply made toy.) 『The idea of this puzzle is wonderful. However it is made incredibly poorly. The edges of the animals and farmer are rough and shed endless wood debris. I have tried wiping the pieces down with a damp cloth, but the edges keep shedding.
I would love to find a puzzle made out of solid wood and not the thousand layers of plywood that composes this product. It's simply annoying and messy, do not spend any money on this toy!』
(Big puzzle for little fingers) 『My 11 month old daughter loves to take the pieces out and play with them...she hasn't figured out how to put them back in yet, but she will. I tell her what the animals are and make the sounds so I'm sure she'll be doing the same soon enough. Good toy!』
(Fantastic puzzle but watch out for chewing babies) 『This is a great first puzzle for babies and young toddlers. The wooden knobs allow small hands to pick up pieces easily. However, the pictures of the animals start to lift from the puzzle pieces if chewed.』 『Bright, bold colors and friendly, recognizable animal characters make this puzzle a winner. HQN Books
Usually ships in 24 hours Core2Duoノートレビュー 's review (Liked the book, had two problems with it) 『I really enjoyed the first half of this book. The two lead characters were charming but human. Claire was just kooky enough to be fun. The plot had just enough bumps and twists to be interesting.
About halfway through the book, I ran into a problem: Claire's two sisters.
At the beginning, they provided necessary conflict. In a straight romance, all of the conflicts are supposed to be nicely wrapped up at the end.
But these two aren't directly involved with the romance.
And they are incredibly annoying.
And they are being set up for future books. So they need to remain flawed, so they can overcome their issues in their own books.
In the end, I really enjoyed the primary characters and their storylines. I also liked Wyatt's daughter and her story as well. I decided to ignore Claire's sisters, and kept the 4 star rating.
But unless someone gives me a good reason to, I'm not reading the rest of the series!』
(Sweet Talk) 『This was my first Susan Mallery book, and I liked it. I see that a lot of her fans were disappointed with this book, so i look forward to reading the books people did like.
I like her writing style, and her light humor throughout. The book was cute. The second book, Sweet Spot, was my favorite.
I liked Claire and Wyatt's relationship for the most part. I especially liked Wyatt's daughter Amy. I wasn't a huge fan of Claire though. I know most people on here didn't like Nicole because she was such a biddy- but I didn't mind her. I know real people like her. It's people like Claire that don't exist. Her character was too perfect, or maybe I should say "sweet." But it was still a cute book. I liked it enough to buy the next two books in the series.』
(A Good Beginning) 『This is my first Susan Mallery, probably because I have made a practice of avoiding Harlequins since my late twenties. I can see that they have changed quite a bit, and for the better.
Now, in regard to this book about the Keyes sisters, specifically, Claire Keyes. She was a child prodigy whose parents chose to develop her genius to its fullest extent. Whether they did so for personal reasons or not was not fully discussed. What was apparent to me was that this was a fully dysfunctional family from my perspective. The mother was unhappy being a mother, and left her oldest child at home to take over her own responsibilities, leaving a bitter and ill-used Nicole behind. Claire was like a sparkling show-horse for years, without a real life, and decided to come home to help her sister because she had just had enough.
Like a child learning her first steps, she learns to live life like a normal person, and not a celebrity. The fact that her sister hates her, whether fair, rational, or not, doesn't stop Claire from becoming a better rounded person. She falls in love with the first good, honest man to give her attention, and her life changes for the better.
As for Nicole, whom everyone seems to hate for her rigid rejection of her baby sister and unwillingness to forgive, I think she had a point about Jesse. I think the author could have made it better by making her more likeable, but the truth is, Nicole was the lynchpin for her family from the time she was six years old, and no one has the right to beat up on her for being the person she became. Her parents, who used her, her baby sister, who used and abused her, her sister Claire, who loved her but from a distance. Jesse was still unwilling or unable to admit her fault, and her weak excuse for why she climbed into bed with Nicole's husband didn't hold water. It's kind of like that joke about the man slipping on the floor and ending up with his p**** you know where. Nicole wanted a simple admission of wrong and a sincere apology, but all she got from Jesse was weak excuses and accusations.
On the other hand, Nicole's rabid anger at her sister Claire's absence from her life was unfair, in that Claire's absence wasn't her choice, and a rational Nicole would have admitted that much sooner. None of them dealt with their parent's huge blame for their situation, but all blamed themselves for their parent's choices, which ended up hurting each sister terribly.
That Claire was able to make a true emotional and binding connection with Wyatt was a plus. I find that I like Mallery's ability to draw characters with whom I can relate, or with whom I respond strongly. They are not milk and water people for the most part, and sometimes too much in one direction, but that is what has made this series interesting to read. I have actually already read the second in the series, and so far, I like both, and do like both Claire and Nicole. Yes, Nicole is a hard woman, but she is likeable if somewhat neurotic in the case of Jesse. I think you will like her better in her own story.』
(Will The Real Susan Mallery Please Stand Up?!) 『As a longtime Susan Mallery fan it pains me to say this, but this book was atrocious. I was clapping my hands with glee at the introduction of not one but THREE new Mallery novels, and best of all, a series. However, after forcing myself to finish just the FIRST book, I am not about to endure more of this literary letdown. The three sisters were so completely annoying and unlikeable. Nicole for starters, was a whiny, self pitying, DRAMA QUEEN with a galatic sized bitchy streak. WAH this, WAH that. To wish your own sister dead is inexcusable under ANY circumstances. Claire was just annoying. So she learned to make a meatloaf and we're supposed to cheer her foray into the outer fringes of rocket science? Puhleeze! If she wasn't portrayed as a world famous concert pianist I would think she was a bit simpleton. Nothing wrong with a 28 year old virgin, but her "responses" to the whole interlude had me thinking she had the mentality of a child. I mean, who acts like that in everyday reality? Even her panic attacks seemed utterly ridiculous. As a woman who realistically suffers from them, I find it hard to believe that "pretending" to endure them will actually "cause" them. Jesse was a liar and a tramp. I couldn't begrudge Nicole that much for kicking her to the curb. Anyone who would allow her sister's husband to even so much as remove her clothing is pure scum. And all she could offer up in the way of an excuse was to play the victim much like the sister she stabbed in the back. The supporting cast of characters were judgemental jacka##es who bought into one woman's nasty, barb slinging bouts of self pity and were ready to lynch Claire sight unseen. Would you take the side of someone who thinks nothing of airing her dirty laundry for the world to hear? I wouldn't want to associate with someone so tacky and classless. And to hear Knight Wyatt, in an alternate universe where she wasn't like a 'sister' to him, she would have been his dream woman. SAY WHAT?! Only in the land of make believe perhaps is a woman like that appealing. All in all, the opening story was just one colossal mess imo. I almost feel the need to apologize for shredding the work of an author I adore as much as Susan Mallery. Emphasis on the 'almost'. This book was nowhere NEAR the caliber of which I have always admired her for.』
(Sweet intro to the Sweet series) 『Child prodigy turned world renowned pianist Claire Keyes receives a distressing call from her estranged sister Jesse advising that her twin Nicole needs her assistance after surgery. Claire hasn't talked with either sister for years, but a bout with panic attacks and a chance at reconciliation has her packing her bags and heading to Seattle. As a young child, she was plucked from the comfort of her family to perform in concerts all over the world. When she was 12, her mother joined her on the road, and Nicole has never forgiven Claire for taking their mother from them - especially when their mother dies in a car accident when they are 16. Despite attempts at reconciliation, Nicole has rebuffed her for years.
No one is more surprised than Nicole when Claire arrives to take care of her and won't take no for an answer. Nicole is also nursing a broken heart after catching her soon-to-be-ex-husband in bed with youngest sister Jesse. Nicole's best friend Wyatt instantly takes a dislike to Claire due to all the nasty stories he has heard about her. But soon his attitude changes as he gets to know Claire and starts to desire her. Thinking that they will just have a quick physical relationship, he is not prepared for the depth of his feelings, particularly her relationship with his deaf daughter, Amy. Will Nicole and Claire be able to bury the hatchet and forgive each other? Will Wyatt be able to give his heart to another after being trampled by his ex-wife?
Mallery's first foray in the Keyes sister trilogy is a sweet tale. While so many authors opt to have a virginal heroine, none have handled a heroine's introduction into womanhood (I can't think of any other way to put it) as sensitively and realistically as Mallery does with Claire. Her enthusiasm and cluelessness as to what she is experiencing (and Wyatt's bewilderment) are at times funny and bittersweet. I also like how Claire was forced out of her comfort zone - where even a simple load of laundry or cooking a meatloaf is foreign to her.
The only real problem I had with the novel is the character of Nicole. She's completely nasty throughout 90% of the book (to both Claire and Jesse). While Claire grew as a person, Nicole remained pretty much the same (in fact, I couldn't even recall when the two reconciled - it left that little an impression on me). It makes me wonder how Mallery will redeem her character enough for me to care about her own story. I also hate the unexpected pregnancy plotline as it has been done so many times that it has become pretty trite.
But now Nicole is sick, and Jesse is AWOL. Despite the fact that Claire can't boil water, she's determined to play caretaker. Connecting with her sisters tops her to-do list along with falling in love, or at least in lust, for the first time.
Ruggedly sexy Wyatt just might fit the bill. Although he keeps saying that he and Claire come from entirely different worlds, he lights up hotter than a bakery oven whenever Claire is near. If this keeps up, she just might sweettalk him into her bed and her life.』

She just got interested in Disney princess before she turned 3. She received this puzzle book for her 3-year-old birthday and has been constantly asking for it. I was not happy with the design at first when the pieces fell out after she had turned the page, but I came up with my solution right away. I closed the book with all the puzzle pieces where they should be, and opened it to the page my daughter wanted to work on and used a large(about 2" wide) binder/paper clip to hold the previous pages. This way, no puzzle pieces will fall out and no clean-up required. We likes this system and yes, parental assistance is required -- a yound child does not have enough strength to handle a binder clip that size. Another option is to use one or two large rubber bands to bundle previous pages together. I hope my ideas help!』
(Daughter loves it!) 『We already had another puzzle book with the Disney princesses, but we thought it would be a nice present for our 3 year-old's birthday. She loves it, except she has a bit of a hard time getting some of the pieces together...still too new I suspect.』

(Perfect for my princess..) 『My daughter cannot go a day without doing every single puzzle in this book. She absolutely loves it, travels with it, sleeps with it. 』
(cute concept, but a pain for clean-up) 『My daughter (3) loves this book, and likes doing the puzzles, but it is a pain when you want to clean up or put away the toy. Unlike a traditional puzzle that comes with a box to throw in the pieces, to put these away you have to assemble all 7 puzzles. There's only so much puzzling she has patience for! We tried ziploc baggies for the pieces, but then it's too hard for her to pick out the appropriate pieces for each of the seven puzzles (although they do have a nice color-coded backing). And occasionally, once we get all the pieces back in, if she bends the pages too much as she's putting it away (if the book is slightly open) then pieces will fall out as certain puzzles come undone. So, definitely not a tidy Mom's favorite toy, but for my 3-year old you can't beat anything with princesses on it.』 『This delightful book features seven 24-piece puzzles of your favorite Disney Princesses in their most memorable moments. Each puzzle (color-coded on the back for easy sorting) is accompanied by a story from The Little Mermaid, Cinderella, Aladdin, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty, or Beauty and the Beast. The final puzzle features all six princesses. Plus, there are three pages of original Princess poems.』

It is much easier finding balance with a job that matches your gifts, versus one that you can perform very well in, but may not fit in with your natural gifts.
